Where Sam would have grown tired, discouraged, and questioning, Benny remained smirkingly upbeat and bright-eyed in his honesty, giving Dean a hand up that came without a passing of judgment in his eyes that Sammy might have given. Benny relied on Dean entirely, but unlike the human’s true brother, he did not dog Dean’s every misstep with doubt. Dean screwed up, Benny stepped in, and they continued without awkward soul-bearing conversations and bitter-edged false assurances; likewise, Dean found himself forgetting Benny’s mistakes just as easily, something he’d never been able to do for his little brother.
Dean had thought, as a Winchester, he knew everything there was to know about loyalty. That it meant swallowing your hate and distrust and frustration and keeping on track no matter how many misgivings had piled between you. But true loyalty – as Benny showed him in every hand-up, in every quick save in a battle gone wrong, every time he rested with ease while Dean took watch – was never letting the bitterness well in the first place.”

“One thing I've noticed about the Winchester brothers, is that they have the same arguments again and again. They're usually about the same topic/issue as well. It can get tiring at times, but this season, though their arguments are basically a rehash of the ones they've had before, they also seem different. Perhaps it's because we're seeing a much more mature Sam, he's taking responsibility for his actions as opposed to blaming his 'destiny' on them. So, even though their fights are tireless and at times repetitive, they're a means to an end. Something has got to give. This time it's both of them who will, as opposed to one of them.
What I found disconcerting was the ending. I understand that Sam doesn't get why Dean would keep Benny around. I understand him feeling betrayed that Dean kept this a secret, and I completely get why he's angry. But what I don't get is why Sam would kill Benny. Sure he's a vampire, but if he's like Lenore, then wouldn't Sam do what he did back in S2 and let Benny go? Or is this really because of what Benny represents - another brother who was there for Dean more than Sam was for the past year, and Sam can't get past those words. (btw harsh words spoken, and no doubt felt. Not good Dean!)
There is definite progression with both the characters, things are being rebuilt and I'm looking forward to seeing Sam and Dean's relationship after all this fallout and drama. I'm sure they won't be the same, but I'm hoping they will be better.”
