Aphrodite Jones uses the court transcripts and photo evidence never before seen by the public to tell the real story behind the salacious headlines -- and what went on inside -- and outside -- Michael Jackson's highly sensationalized 2005 criminal trial. Turns out, inside the courtroom, there was no proof offered of Michael Jackson as a sinister character, and no proof that he committed a single crime. In their efforts to win ratings, Jones proves, the media completely missed the truth. Back then, Jackson was the pop icon everyone loved to hate. Now, with Michael Jackson Conspiracy, he may be restored to the pop icon everyone loves to love.

Michael Jackson in the Crosshairs

Michael Jackson in the Crosshairs
A very accurate account of Michael Jackson's 2005 molestation trial. Jones makes you feel like you're sitting in the courtroom. Told from the defense' perspective, Jones uses a lot of actual transcript material. At times the book can become repetitive or stay too long on certain testimony but it is a very vivid account of how the media prejudiced the public against Jackson and gave a scary portrayal of when the courts and especially the prosecution try to bring a false case against an innocent client for obsessive and racial reasons.I think the book will appeal to both Jackson fans and those who are still on the fence as to whether the "King of Pop" was actually a pedophile.

This book is a must read! Finally the truth, not misconceptions! Kudos to Aphrodite Jones for her investigative skills and for having the courage to admit she had been wrong in her initial opinion of MJ. I'm trying to understand one thing - why has Amazon deleted the Product Description and the Editorial Review from this book? It was there all summer, now it's gone. I chose to purchase this book based on the product description (and reviews). I feel it should still be listed, and since I had printed it out over the summer, I am going to type it here verbatum:

From the PUBLISHER: "He was the pop icon the media loved to hate. Tremendously wealthy, inarguably eccentric, and one of the most famous people in the world, Michael Jackson was the unenviable target of constant public humiliation. The media poked fun at his skin, his features, his sexuality, and his lifestyle.

Here, seasoned crime reporter Aphrodite Jones condemns the media for perpetuating hateful rumors and innuendoes, recounting just the sordid details, and reporting only the most despicable accusations and grisly charges made against Michael Jackson during his criminal trial. They had built a highly profitable industry around the superstar's "freaky life" and banked on his conviction. And, it turns out, they got it all wrong.

In their efforts to make money and win ratings, the media missed the truth. It wasn't until after the "Not Guilty" verdict that Jones had the insight and courage to admit her own unintentional role in the frenzy surrounding the shocking testimony, high drama, and countless celebrities in Michael Jackson's high-profile criminal trial. Here, she makes amends with what is not only a truthful, well-documented chronicle of the entire trial but a powerful indictment against the media for conspiring to distort, dehumanize, and destroy Michael Jackson. Jones argues convincingly that the case against Jackson amounted to nothing more than a media-made, tax-paid scandal, and she makes an impassioned call to action for the public-at-large to think critically, question the integrity, and demand the truth in "the news"."

"To anyone who wants to learn what happened in the Michael Jackson courtroom, this is the book to read." - Thomas A. Mesereau, Jr., Michael Jackson's lead counsel.

"The media anticipated the legal equivalent of a lynching...To spike ratings, they covered the man, not the evidence...The end result was the further blackballing of Michael Jackson's reputation." - Peter Shaplen, official media pool coordinator, the Michael Jackson trial.

"Aphrodite Jones provides the detail that we never got in the news media and vividly captures the phenomenon that was the Michael Jackson trial. It's a deeply researched, intense account that keeps you anxiously awaiting the next scene." - Roy Black, criminal defense attorney and NBC legal commentator.

As much as I have been dying to read books on Michael Jackson, I have been very careful in choosing which book I purchase. I am NOT interested in supporting those authors who claim to have the "scoop" on the truth about MJ. I certainly don't want my mind muddled with false information or personal opinions that have no factual standing, whatsoever, or out-of-context factoids just so these writers can make money at the expense of MJ's reputation. It's just not right. The only other book I purchased was the "Michael Jackson Tapes" by Rabbi Schmuley only because it would be the words of Michael Jackson, himself. Even with that book I was not impressed because Schmuley has to put his two-cents worth into everythig Michael had to say and shroud Michael's words with Schmuley's own opinions and intentions.

Anyway, about this book, "Michael Jackson Conspiracy", I am very glad to have read a book that deals with FACTS. I took a chance and purchased it based on other people's comments, and I say it's worth reading! Personally, I NEVER believed all the crap that has been said about MJ. Even when the Bashir interview aired, right then I said to my husband, I actually believe Michael and completely agree with his views that there's nothing wrong with kids sharing a bed if it's innocent, the way that he described it. In that interview I could truly sense his sincerity and honesty in what he was saying and how he was saying it. This world is so darn hippocritical that we (the media especially) are quick to find fault in others and sensationalize it and take it out of context. I'm sure one could have a field day on the numerous things that we say and do every day that can easily be misconstrued to make us look like criminials when, in fact, we're not. Anyway, that's my opinion, and this book is wonderful in that it describes the numerous innacuracies of the accusers' testimonies, their disagreeable conduct, and so much more, so that for the readers out there who like to base their opinions on facts, this book will certainly lay out for you what the media did NOT and will probably never want you to know!

It disgusts me so very much how the media is like a petri dish that starts as a nasty little bacteria that continues to grow until it's out of control. They purposely and greedily misconstrue issues, don't give you the correct circumstances from which it came, nor do they give you ALL the facts! It sickens me that the media was always waiting breathlessly in court for anything that they could leak out to the public that would make Michael Jackson look bad. This books reveals how they couldn't do that - Thank you Ms. Jones and Mr. Mesereau.

Thanks you for writing this book and giving us a fair and thoughtful view of what actually happened in the trial. As opposed to the circus some channels offered. Michael has been treated so badly in his life by people and it’s very sad.

5.0 out of 5 stars Setting The Record Straight
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on May 9, 2010
"The media write weird stuff about me all the time. The distortion of the truth bothers me. I usually don't read a lot of what is printed, although I often hear about". [Moon Walk, Michael Jackson's One and Only Autobiography.]

In this day and age it takes a certain calibre of person to admit they were wrong. It, then, takes an even stronger character and personality to genuinely and earnestly set out to make amends and to set the record straight. This then, is the objective of this admirable, powerful and thought-provoking work by Aphrodite Jones.

From the outset she explains and readily admits she was part of the, then, media "circus" that set out to distort facts and peddle inaccurate information in the, alleged, molestation charges and subsequent court case which confronted Michael Jackson, during 2005. Ample evidence is offered that the media wilfully focused upon negative aspects of the case, in addition to repeatedly distorting or completely failing to accurately report facts of the case, instead of providing fair and balanced reporting in the media.

"Remember, the press is a business: Newspapers and magazines are in business to make money - sometimes at the expense of accuracy, fairness and even the truth". [Moon Walk, Michael Jackson's One and Only Autobiography.] So these, uncannily, prophetic words are printed in Michael Jackson's own autobiography, albeit unintentionally, and not actually in direct connection with either of his court cases. [They had yet to rear their ugly heads at the time the autobiography was, originally, published.]

This is a tome comprehensively and painstakingly researched by Aphrodite Jones, which serves to lay open the truth and the deliberately biased and negative reporting of Michael Jackson, in the media throughout the entire trial.

To acquire the co-operation and assistance of Thomas Mesereau, Michael Jackson's lead counsel was no mean feat, considering that, from the outset; they were very much on `opposite sides of the fence', to such an extent, that Thomas Mesereau, understandably, had a complete aversion to dealing or associating with her. With a degree of persistence, combined with sensitive and delicate negotiations and candid discussion the support of Thomas Mesereau was secured, as he considered she was being truthful, courageous and professional in her desire to set the record straight about the Michael Jackson defence. Thomas Mesereau did, subsequently, write the Foreword to this excellent, investigative book and it made potent reading. I believe, in each of the respective fields of the individuals directly involved, both, in Law and Entertainment, it took a humble, exceptional and quite extraordinary individual - Thomas Mesereau to defend, another humble, exceptional and quite extraordinary individual - Michael Jackson.

This is a tome that contributes considerably to, rightly, reinforcing Michael Jackson being completely exonerated of the charges he faced. In this world, I believe that two of the worst crimes a male can be accused of are, indeed, false child molestation and false rape charges. To be accused, twice, must have been an undoubted, complete and utter living nightmare for Michael Jackson. The content of this book is exceptionally well researched, providing a unique insight into the court processes and is an extremely captivating read but it would not be accurate or, I believe, appropriate to say I "enjoyed" it. The content is too disturbing when considering it was absolutely awful that Michael Jackson should even be accused of such heinous crimes and it is discomforting becoming aware of his inordinate and obvious mental, emotional and physical distress.

Having read this powerful book providing insight and redressing the balance of this controversial court case, there is no element of doubt in my mind that the factors involved could only have served to contribute towards the sad, tragic and early demise of Michael Jackson. The pressure brought to bear and the levels of stress that he must have endured over such a protracted period must have been considerable, to the point of being wholly intolerable and inevitably, taking a physical toll.

Admittedly, it is only conjecture on my part but as the reader what I, personally, feel pained and distressed Michael Jackson the most, in all likelihood, would have been to have children/youths that he had trusted implicitly, collude with adults to so totally and utterly betray that degree of trust.

Michael Jackson was accustomed to being betrayed by adults but he trusted and loved children, in the most honourable sense of the words:

"There are so many things all around us to be thankful for. Wasn't it Robert Frost who wrote about the world a person can see in a leaf? I think that's true. That's what I love about being with kids. They notice everything. They aren't jaded. They get excited by things we've forgotten to get excited about any more. They are so natural too, so unself-conscious. I love being around them. There always seems to be a bunch of kids over at the house and they're always welcome. They energize me - just being around them. They look at everything with such fresh eyes, such open minds. That's part of what makes kids so creative. They don't worry about the rules. The picture doesn't have to be in the center of a piece of paper. The sky doesn't have to be blue. They are accepting of people too. The only demand they make is to be treated fairly - and to be loved. I think that's what we all want". [Moon Walk, Michael Jackson's One and Only Autobiography.]

On a general note, one particular aspect of this book I like is the way Aphrodite Jones chose to incorporate lyrics or song titles from Michael Jackson's songs into the chapter headings.

This review would not be complete if I failed to acknowledge the fans that without hesitation relinquished and sacrificed their positions of employment to offer their support to Michael Jackson for the duration of the trial in their belief and never doubting, even for one second his innocence. I can only have the utmost admiration and respect for that degree of loyalty.

I can, indeed, highly recommend this book for, both, loyal fans and other people interested in Michael Jackson's life. It is certainly worth the investment and can only conclude by expressing heartfelt gratitude to Aphrodite Jones for `standing up for something, as opposed to sitting down for everything', not many people in this day and age have the courage of their convictions, to pursue them with such tenacity, passion, commitment and conviction. Aphrodite Jones rests her case and does it admirably.

5.0 out of 5 stars Darstellung eines Prozesses, der nie hätte zugelassen werden dürfen
Reviewed in Germany on November 16, 2009

- Mehrere prominente Persönlichkeiten (u.a.

"The untold story of Neverland" von Larry Nimmer
