What are your thoughts on this...to me it sounds like the music from a scene in Lassie but an enjoyable uplifting tune nonetheless.

Yes it also reminded me of movie musics, but I like it, as you said, it's uplifting.

The anthem is nothing special but it doesn't bother me. What I don't like is the flag. We have a very good flag that is very unique and everybody notices. If they had to change it (even if it was designed by both T/C and G/C) they should at least keep the shape of the island in the flag.

Actually I liked both the flag and the Anthem ! Until today we did not have our own national anthem , so the time has come to have one like any other country has!

But the anthem is way too short. It's only 40 seconds!!! National anthems are supposed to last for at least double this!

The short length of the anthem is intentional and it was a request of Denctash. When they play the anthem they will play it twice - one for each component state.

Even better if it was just the yellow background and the green Cyprus. Why should we have blue and red lines?

I think the new anthem sucks! Just another way they are destroying Cypriot Hellenism! One of the ties between Greeks in Greece and Greeks in Cyprus is that when the time came to sing their anthem they were singing the same words... Words of a Greek hero Dionysios Solomos and not some song that resembles the Soviet anthem!

I think it sounds like a cross between the Internationale and the Soviet Anthem... not bad credentials for an anthem in my book. Where I would criticise it is lack of words. Why not follow South Africa's example and have two verses, one in each language (or three verses to include a common English one)

As for the flag... geezus, I've seen better flags in Central African dictatorships - eminently forgettable and anonymous. How about the flag shown in my profile as an alternative (basically the French flag with the old Cyprus shape included)?

As for the old Greek anthem, if the GC really want to continue singing about the Hellenic struggle they can do so through the constituent state anthem, as can TC through their anthem.
