I love it, love it, love it. It was a blind buy years ago when it was cheap. Not sure what it goes for now. It was released more than 20 years ago but reminds me a great deal of the high-end niche scents we've seen come out in the last 5 years. One spray is enough. Maybe just the body lotion is enough, if that is still even available. Loud rose, woods, pink pepper. Probably not for most offices unless you own the place

Highly unusual offering from Chopard! The only C. scents in my collection are Casmir and one of its flankers and the beautiful Wish. Madness doesn't resemble its better known "cousins" at all, and that's a good thing. Woody, spicy and floral notes make M. easy to wear. Performance is modest, the presentation is quite stylish.

I am continually maddened by this perfume. (I suppose it's been named well!)

I blind-bought it because I love pink pepper. At least, I *thought* I loved pink pepper. But Madness uses its pink pepper as a weapon of assault.

At the first spray, I was thrown off completely. This perfume was listed as woody and rose-y. I smelled no such thing. Instead, I was immersed in an earthy, biting bubble. There was pepper, yes, but none of the sprightliness I associate with pink pepper. There was overripe kumquat. There was a nutty quality, like expensive walnuts. And, as it developed, I smelled this smoky, balsamic presence, which gave the composition a sense of seduction.

This is the perfume of a woman who isn't afraid of boldness or ugliness. This woman embraces the asymmetry of life. "Madness" is the scent of a Baroness, one who has lost her fortune and reputation and gained worldly perspective.

It was powerful and unyielding, but also a bit sorrowful. I'd never smelled a sorrowful perfume before.

Madness is not a perfume I *like*, per se. But I find myself obsessed with it. I need to figure it out.

is anyone able to speak on the differences (if any) between the eau de parfum vs. the eau de toilette version?

update 10.27.2021: I, against the recommendation of other reviewers, blind bought (the EDT version) Madness. I am super disappointed. I'm wondering if I received a bad bottle or maybe the EDT smells that much different than the EDP. The EDT version is not in the Fragrantica database. Anyway, this just cannot be what people are enjoying. I love pink pepper so I was looking forward to that initial blast. The opening is beyond foul. This smells putrid. Like rotting fruit juice and the water left in a vase after the flowers have died. Like sticky saliva after a few drinks. Like someone who spits when they talk and there's definitely lipstick on their teeth. I'm not trying to be gross but this makes me cringe with distaste. There is nothing 'fresh' about it! Also, maybe I didn't wait long enough, but the scent never seemed to change on me to reveal any of the middle or base notes mentioned. I will be getting rid of this ASAP!

Madness does take a bit getting used to. It is a very, unique perfume in my opinion. It has a very, sharp kick to it when first applied. The dry down is exquisite. It’s sophisticated without being an “old lady” scent. It’s elegant and a bit mysterious. There’s nothing like it I could think of except that it vaguely reminds me of Le Feu de Issye.

Paid $20 on Ebay for this and it's exceeded my expectations. It opens with a peppery burst of rose and dries down to a woody floral that stays on my clothes for days at a time. Not too dusty or powdery, just a beautiful spicy floral musk. Elegant and alluring, but not overly feminine. When I smell it, my head fills with a bright red color and I'm compelled to drink wine. Great for these winter months.

Pair with: exposed collarbones, malbec, candlelight, snow piling up on a windowsill, dark pantyhose peeking out under a rabbit fur coat, sharing a cigarette on a balcony, a dimly lit hotel room.

This perfume is very sentimental to me - I've worn it almost exclusively during a small 3-day trip to Milan and Lake Como.

Rose is one of my favorite notes, and it can have many facets. I find it incredibly versatile because it can be fresh, light, dark, velvety, even masculine; it all depends on how you pair it with. The rose in Madness is very vivid and noticeable. In this case, it is enhanced with a very spicy kick, that hits your nostrills right away and stays in your until the very last notes. You can defeinitely sense the litchi in the first seconds. The base is woody and suave. It lasts during the whole day, even though it has a discreet presence once the spicy notes start to vanish.

I find it a marvellous perfume. It feels comforting, but bold. It is different than what is on the market today. Its apparent lack of sweetness feels refreshing and I love its masculine character.

I can compare it to Femme Individuelle by Mont Blanc, Aura by Swarovsky or even Miracle by Lancôme. They are all spicy pink florals - a sub-category I seem to enjoy. The biggest difference is that Madness is fuller, darker and woodier - and that is precisely why it is my favorite of the group.

I still have a diary from when I was 14 (2002) in which I wrote a wish list that contained a bottle of Chopard Madness. Last year I finally got it in a giveaway on here. I remember I linked it to Mugler‘s Angel back then, but maybe just because I was 14 and hadn‘t smelled that many perfumes yet, I don‘t really see a resemblance nowadays.
So, this is a rose fragrance that is dark, sweet and spicy. I don‘t get quite as much pink pepper as the voted notes suggest, but it‘s definitely there. This note can often turn a little too dry on me, especially with woody notes next to it, but in Madness, the thick jammy rose and lychee save it from that. The bottle color really is a perfect match for the scent. Fragrantica lists cotton flower as a note, most other sides list cotton candy and I think when it was new it was marketed as cotton candy, too. Because it‘s long discontinued official sources from Chopard are hard to find though. Anyways, I don‘t really get either note! But there is definitely a deep sweetness in this, and also a sultry warm powdery floralcy like in some 90s perfumes.

Madness is strong and very long-lasting, more of a nighttime kind of fragrance. But carefully applied I think it‘s also wonderfully warming on cold days. I don‘t know why this is so polarizing, to me it‘s not more intense or unusual than Wish or Casmir.

One of the very few rose perfumes that actually smell like real roses. So many of them smell like pear or green tea-scented lotions, and just *say* they smell of roses. I’m trying to pare down my collection, and I thought I might give it to a friend who likes rose fragrances, but putting it on to test reminded me how much I like it....oh dear...

Edit: May 16, 2020:
Today when we were out walking I had this sort of fleeting scent-thought and it took me a minute to realize what it was. Madness is what came to mind so I got out my packaged bottle and spritzed some on my arm.
Today it smells completely different to me.
It has a sweetness that I never really knew was there. It smells refined and unique and actually it is reminding me a little bit of Antelope.

This is a perfume I would wear now, when I am tiring of smelling perfumes and just want to smell classy.
This is why I don't worry about getting rid of perfumes anymore.

Original Review:
Years ago like over ten years, a friend suggested Chopard Madness. I have like several Chopards so I went for it.

Ummm...okay not my thing? Maybe I'm not trying hard enough? So every once in a while I'd give it another try.
The impression it gives me is sort of like one of those Raid Ant sprays in the aerosol can like they used to use when I was a kid. It lasts longer than the dry down stage too.

If this did turn powdery on me I'd be thrilled because I'm a powder ho, but it just doesn't present any notes that my nose finds appealing. No vanilla, no woods, no powder, none of the notes I gravitate to. I'VE TRIED SO HARD!

Sometimes it would make me feel a little ill even. There's an ingredient kind of like what Gucci Rush has (I still try to wear Rush once in a while in the old formula.)
It must be the pepper? Hardly any fragrances ever do that to me so it's weird.

I tried this the other day again. Bottom line; if it takes that much effort to like a fragrance it probably isn't for you so move on! Life's too short to wear stuff that doesn't make you happy!

Don't want to go through trying it again because I forgot what happens!

Gonna swap it or sell it.

gtabasso

heaven; reminds me of a peppery sharper Calligraphy Rose without the jam; goes on spicy amber but then the rose powers up; not a lot of projection, then I get some leather then as dries more I get some of that pencil shaving vibe people talk about ; love it and lots of pepper in the top

Alces Alces

You can tell the same nose created Madness and Si Lolita because these two have a similar texture even apart from the obvious pink pepper. Madness shows the weird side of rose, the adventurous side you don't usually see. Fruity and sparkly from the pepper, but still a rose in there somewhere. It's a beautiful modern spicy floral with fruit.

The bottle comes with a big sticker that says DO NOT REMOVE CAP. So of course after reading this I pulled the cap off anyway, not comprehending that the thing that looked just like a lid is the sprayer itself. Just a word of warning should you decide to try this. I broke the cap but it still sprays, which is good because I enjoy this a lot.

Some reviews mention cinnamon, but I think that is the pepper. Really best on a fall day. I do get the Nivea resemblance, too.

I'm in love!

This helped me realize that after oriental spicy, SPICY ROSE is my fav type of scent!

Smells_Good

This was a blind buy for me as it was going cheap due to a broken spray nozzle. I've had it for several years now and didn't like it when I first got it, as I was into fruitier florals then. While it's not one that I instantly reach for, I have come to appreciate it more and find it a little complex but in a good way. As the nozzle is broken, I 'dab' it rather than spritz, so not sure if that would affect the overall effect. This is a heavy hitter, so I only use it sparingly. It needs to be given time to develop, becoming warm and musky after the initial hit of something almost berry like. It almost reminds me of DKNY Delicious Night (purple bottle) which I also have had for a few years from another blind buy. I only use it only during colder months as it feels too heavy for warmer months & is definitely a unisex perfume. Overall I like it and glad that I have kept it.

palebluemoon

try to mix this perfume with some of habit rouge and jicky of guerlain and you will get similar smell of coque d'or de guerlain or you will a totally new scent

mystica

On me, that's classic Nivea Creme in the blue tin, with a touch of spicy roses and sandalwood in the base. The fragrance has an also unmistakable leather accord to it. I like Madness.

*Migraine sufferers need precaution with this one.

joenick68

I started wearing this only with the body lotion, and surprisingly got complements and I really like the performance of the lotion in my skin, so I decided to get the EDP and shower gel, wearing all today together for the first time, and I layer it first with a touch of B* Men, and was a nice combo. So far I am pleased.

socorrosouza

On me it is such a beauty a peppery rose with a floral (hibiscus) and woody (rosewood) background that give Madness a sexy, classy vibe. Well balanced and out of ordinary this must be tested before buying, because you need to be a sexy, self confident woman to wear this. Although it is sweet, it is the sweetness of the rose and hibiscus not common sugaryness or vanilla sugary-ness. Very potent, lasts for 8 to 9 hours with heavy to moderate sillage for 3 to 4 hours. Not adequate to people whose only love are very sugar-y and cloying perfumes and who have no time for flowers.

soulsong

Really hated it. if you are interested in a trade I have a 1 ounce bottle available.

Oriane

I found a bottle of this gem in my parents' house recently. I guess this scent is responsible for my love of peppery roses, by the way.

What is challenging about it is that it is both spicy and powdery. It is soft and full-bodied. Spice and flowers are so well blended that you never know which facet will take the upper hand over the other - it is unpredictable. Finally, the hibiscus and rose notes prevail after an hour, but the scent retains a smattering of its initial insolence. You never get ethereal flowers, but earthly ones - and their stems are thorny.

So sad Madness was discontinued !

blake.lee

Extremely powdery and old fashioned rose. It's horrible on me! I get no spice, no sweetness just a powdery, dusty, musty old fashioned rose.

PerfumeEmpress

I was rummaging through my box of vintage/discontinued frags and I stumbled on Madness. I had completely forgotten I had it. I tried it on my hand ... and I fell madly in love with it.

It's hard to describe, but I'll give it a try. On me, this is sweet, but very far from the Yankee Candle, bakery, candy-floss type. It's a grown-up, creamy, delicious, rosey sweet. I think it's the pepper that tames the sweetness. And it's a good pepper, not a sneeze-inducing one. I don't get the burnt tyre that some people complain about. Nothing plastic, or anything like that.

Yes, it's strong and I love it for that. And the sillage is excellent. A spritz or two is all you need. More and you'll overdo it and ruin the effect.

If those around me get offended by this, well, they'll just have to move over to their olfactive safe space. This beautiful scent is worth being left on my own. Let me just add that on me, this is a gourmet sweet, not gourmand. Lucky me!

Awater01

I love chillies and spicy food so having a perfume that assults you with it's scent is strangely appealing to me. The opening is like fireworks exploding with sparkling kumquat and peppery rose over sweet musky woods. I liked it when it came out but as a poor uni student, I wasn't brave enough to buy it. The opening scared me a little and I worried I wouldn't wear it enough. I've just added it to my collection and the opening isn't the same nose numbing, screacher it used to be. Maybe I've become less sensitive or the juice has mellowed with age. Either way I'm so happy to have this scent in my life again.

Madrona

This is indeed a strange one. At first application I felt nauseous, every whiff was an assault of pink pepper and rose that simply would not yield. It made my stomach turn. I was tempted to scrub it off with the passion of a thousand burning suns, but I decided to wait it out to see if it would morph into something more palatable, and that it did... after about two hours on my skin.

Eventually it thus turned into a spicy, warm oriental, still very rosy, but the pepper is nicely tamed. A pencil shavings note is indeed present, as a previous reviewer stated. In fact, at this point I would even call "Madness" a pleasant and unusual composition. I have no idea when I would wear this, but somehow I am glad to have a mini of it in my collection. This is really a love-hate scent.

Corinne39

I remember about 15 years ago, at the perfume counter in Debenhams, that you could test this, not on strips of card, but on bright red feathers! I also remember loving it and hating this at the same time..a weird but wonderful combination of notes!

MAD ABOUT MADNESS
_______________________________________________________

I had the opportunity to test this wonderful frangrance today, and waht can I say... I'm mad about Madness.

It opens with an explosion of Hibiscus and right there you can see that 'Madness' is not for everybody. The explosion takes its time to calm down, and after an hour or so, you can sense the warm woody notes. The drydown occurs after approx. 2 hours, when one can feel the soft pepper and a hint of rose.

Overall: I love when a frangrance is powerful. It is strong and in your face. That is why it can be somehow overwhelming to some people. That is why, you should be advised before purchase.

Longetivity: - 5/10
Sillage: medium - 5/10

All in all: 7 out of 10 points.

EK

I would say that Madness really has a split personality, so the name fits juice very well! The way it develops is shocking every time I wear it. The opening is sharp like a razor, as nose-burning as the smell of wasabi. (No, it does NOT smell like wasabi at all! It's just the best example I can give.) To be honest I find that opening to be the worst and most godawful I've encounted to this day. It takes a long time - up to 45 minutes mintues before it changes noticably. At that point it turns into a very soft, non-offending skin scent - that type of scent that is hard to remember the next day. Odd, but definitely interesting. I've given it several chances, but I have to give up. Most of the time I can wait for an umpleasant opening to wear off, but not this time. The heart and base aren't interesting enough to be worth the suffering, especially not when it takes this long. Not recommended as a blind buy! Still, it's very pleasant if you can wait for it. But in case you like the opning, there's a risk you will be disappointed later on. Normally I'm fond of "chameleon fragrances" as I call them, but sadly, not this time.

lapioggianelpineto1977

I truly don't understand all the dislikes, which I honestly think as unjustified. This is pleasant and I often get compliments for it. It is indeed a "peppery rose" but very well done...and the pepper note is sharp maybe for only the first couple of minutes. Not overly sweet, not annoying or offensive in any way. It is actually kind of elegant and very feminine in its own very unique way. original...doesn't remind me of anything, and this is a quality.

Jitterbug Perfume Lover

It's so interesting! It's a must for anyone who likes a very unusual rose.
I get pepper, pepper, pepper, pepper, then more pepper on rosewood, a bug lusty hunk of rosewood for the first 45 minutes or so, THEN, a touch of rose peeks out. It's just ever so lightly softened by something fruity. Lychee? IDK. Honestly, it's hard to tell. This pepper is making my nostrils tingle, but strangely, I kind of like it. I have NO IDEA where I would wear this scent, but it certainly is interesting. It's kind of a "kick ass, and take names later" kind of scent.
I'm going to sleep soon, and it's still pretty strong. I'll probably be dreaming of chopping wood with my bare hands Bruce Lee style.

smellslikedimond

Fragrantica (or shall I say frantica ) has done it again .. I was "frantic" and full of anticipation awaiting my madess in the mail. And first spray .. uhmm medicinal. 20 minutes later - still smells like cough medicine.

Hopefully I wont have trouble getting rid of my 5 ml mini with all you lovers .. Im a hater. Not often do I feel the need to go and scrub, but this is a time

Just need to figure out the swapping process .. built up a few

shushkin

What an inspired combination of perfume notes. I love it. I love the rose scent but it is so easy to create a middle of the road perfume with it. This is sophisticated and classy. Definitely for the independent and go getting type of woman. Its for a confident woman. The sillage is average on me but it lasts for hours and hours. The pepper is stimulating and I think it heightens the other notes in the perfume. Its a bit like lightly sprinkling modena vinegar on fresh strawberries to intensify their taste. Its powerful and 'm amazed it doesnt trigger a migraine for me.

Natalie Nations

EDIT: This perfume is my favorite. It reminds me of wooden pencil shavings. This perfume actually has a very woodsy vibe (which I failed to mention before) and I love that. I'm going to have to buy a bigger bottle now.

I love Madness. The first spritz is pure pink pepper followed by a piercing sharp rose. Intense, or "really bad bengay" as somebody told me after I just put some on. Madness settles down (eventually) soft, sweet, and musky, but it is the pepper I smell on me the longest. I love pepper in perfume. I feel like I could use this perfume to spice up any other perfume in my wardrobe when it comes to layering scents. Strong at first, the scent settles and then come the compliments. If this appeals to you, I wouldn't worry to much about blind buying. I got this for a pretty good price on Amazon.

kelleybelle

Update ... well my new bottle has arrived from Israel (eBay) and I find that the candy floss is indeed missing from the middle notes and beginning of the drydown :( The red berry top note has been replaced by kumquat, I see, which gives it a briefly pleasantly bitter waft up front, interesting. I prefer the old formula, though. And the rosewood has been replaced as well. Still gorgeous and the drydown is beautiful, but I yearn for the old formula.

Rene007

strawberry lolipop , sour and sweet....very strong, reminde me parisieene by yves or gilded lily by ineke..too sweet for me- can not handle it

kelleybelle

Well damn! This is one of my very favourites and it looks to have been reforumulated :( The last bottle I had lasted some time, and I see now by this visit to Fragrantica that it no longer contains the candy floss note (which made it smell good enough to eat), nor the Brazilian rosewood. I also don't see the red berries, either. The top notes used to be red berries, pink peppercorn and lichee. The kumquat note was never there before, either. It's a fragrance not made to wear to dinner. Not for everyone but the symphonic drydown is just exquisite. The middle notes that come out are just so delicious. I happen to like the initial blast of pink pepper and lychee. I have just ordered a new bottle from eBay ... we'll see if it's relatively the same. I hope so, I am in love with this perfume. A perfect casual scent for cold autumn days, not for work or dress-up. Why must they mess with everything?

mad.kat.96

I had to get this because of the name.. I love the pink pepper and the lichi however the rose is just too strong for me... It is a nice rose, sweet not a moldy type that I often find but still I prefer rose as a background not an in your face note.. So not for me personally..

If you like strong, sweet, fresh rose this is great and if you like strong pink pepper I would recommend Madness as it also has good sillage and great lasting power.

Rizaldo

I want now, fast...

truffles

A big crushed peppercorn. That's all. Pepper assaults my nose. What and why is this modern obsession with sticking pepper in fragrances? I don't dig it or get it.

Iris_it

Stay away from Madness if you dislike strong roses notes . This is my case , I cannot appreciate Narciso Rodriguez for her eau de parfum , Bulgari Rose essentielle for instance but Madness opening notes give me even a bit of nausea probably beacause of the combo rose-fruit .

I wonder why I dislike so much strong roses in some perfumes... just like I prefer chocolate on a slice of bread instead of into a fragrance , I prefer strong roses perfume among petals .

I read below that Madness is similar to ... Fendi ?! They could not be more different in my opinion ( I refer to Fendi first formula , not Fendi 2004 that I never tried ) .

Beth1218

I must have this one. I love strong, spicy and floral.

Update: Wearing Madness now. I can't figure this fragrance out. But, I think I am going to like it. When I first put it on, it reminded me of Le Feu d'Issey which was one of my very favorites. I like the strong, peppery top notes. Once it dries down I will probably be able to make a more acurate assessment.

orangehaze99

Not at all masculine...but definitely not at all soft and girly. This fragrance is the opposite of most popular scents. I wouldn't even know where to begin describing it, but it IS love or hate with this one. It feels like a winter fragrance. Hard to say why, but Madness is a very fitting name for it.

soniamcalear

This smells remarkably simalar to Fendi by Fendi. Im really happy about that becuse Fendi was one of my favorite sencts that was discontinued and cannot find anywhere!!! Nyoka was kind enough to give me a sample of this wonderful perfume-thanks Ny!!! Love this sandlewood richenss in this scent.

2746cstreet

Madness is love or hate. I love it. Sweet, but smoky sweet. Peppered, burnt cotton candy (not cotton flower, see Chopard's website) over heady, creamy roses. Quite strong and warm. Very sharp opening, but dries down quickly.

Sexy in an almost "vulgar" fashion. You have to be into this sort of thing. I would not blind buy if you are new to perfume.

Update:
This actually works as a unisex on some men. I sprayed some on my boyfriend and it smelled awesome. His chemistry really magnified the smokiness and it was sweet, but masculine. Very sexy.

akheperure

This perfume reminds me a lot of the fragrances of the 80's, and in particular Fendi's Fendi, but slightly softer.
I find it rather nice, and it adds variety to my current perfume repertoire.
It is a night perfume, velvety, a bit dark, heavy and spicy on the woody side.
The dry-down is wonderful, woody, sweet, a bit spicy, just the kind of smell I like. Pity that it doesn't smell stronger.

b@by

This is a moody, pissed off, wilting rose that is going through "rose menopause". First impression to me is no. I will try again another time, when it's cooler and the kids aren't annoying me. Categorically not my cup of tea. Too floral, and not a fresh floral.

EDIT: I gave it another chance. You know, I thought maybe my nose was having a bad day. Poor poor nose. All these wonderful notes that people are picking up... pepper? Cotton candy? Hibiscus? Really? I feel really cheated with the rosy mess I bought blindly. I wanted pepper spray dammit :(

AngieGCarp

Maybe I'm mad but this perfume is AWESOME..

mhubbard

As others have said, you will either love or hate this one,as it is loud and sexy. Sweet, woody, and there's a rose in there too. This is not a wedding day fragrance, wear it to an art gallery. It will make an impression of your individuality. Beware, the different notes conspire against you and hit you simultaneously from all angles. It is very different from anything else you have tried, or is it a little like Mania? Do not blind buy, even though it is cheap. Even though it has been around for quite a while, I stumbled upon it only a couple of weeks ago. I love the bottle, too! I'll give it 9/10 but I would never wear it to work, nor in the summer.

aristouka

heavy , strong , makes you dizzy not in the good way... it's annoying , it's just awful... for me!
you know what they say... somebody's trash, somebody's treasure! you smell, you choose!

cleo cupcake

I agree that pink pepper is a current cliche but I also agree that it's use in Madness is fully justified. This is a fresh and spicy rose that gathers depth as it goes along and the drydown rosewood base is fantastic! Great longevity without overly insistent sillage, warmth and sensuality without too much sweetness. This is a gem that deserves more attention.

Ponyfields

Like the reviewer before me said, you definitely won't get anyone messing with you while you're wearing this; no one will get close enough to do any messing.

Pink pepper is a fantastic note, one that I really love. And I can smell it very strongly in this perfume. It is, sadly, completely and utterly ruined by the horrific synthetic scent that completely overwhelms any other notes. Pepper and chemicals. This has all the subtlety of a Viking axe to the face (let's continue this theme!)

And strong! Wowee, you could smell it coming three leagues away. There'd be no pillaging going on, the villagers would have relocated the entire settlement by the time you got there.

Don't even -think- of blind buying this. I would have more luck finding cotton candy in a longboat than in this awful juice.

Edit: If anyone wants to trade for this, I've got a 30ml bottle with (slightly damaged) box and about 5ml used up. Send me a PM.

CoolBreezes

To my surprise I just found my red bottle of this hiding and lurking among my current Northern Hemisphere summer-time scents. Despite the heat, I sprayed it on to experience it again as the day cooled into evening.

Woody, arresting, sharp (initially) and very strong. A sillage monster on me, and it's my winter-time "don't mess with me today" scent. Clears out the cobwebs and makes me stand up straighter.

I imagine beserker Vikings would have liked this before going into battle in the days of yore. I hear them coming over the hill. It's a cool night, I've doused myself, and I'm ready for the lot of them. :)

Chopards Madness is a bit mad, in a good way. When first sprayed you think it's pepper-spray (literally) but hold on! Give it a chance! If you allow it to settle, a beautiful rosewood note thanks you for it and gets slowly accompanied by hibiscus and something sweet, not cotton candy to my nose but definitely litchi. This one is not for everyone, you could even say it's an acquired taste.

I love notorious Ladies like: Cabochard, Bandit, Magie Noire, etc. so, I am not quickly daunted by "heavy" characters and this one is a heavy character for sure, bordering on unisex but somehow a strong feminine, elegant dry down prevents it from being too masculine. This one is best 'let out' during evening, and is definitely one you should not buy blind!
The silage is great, the longevity is 5+ hours on me. It's a powdery pepper with a woodsy (almost incense-like) edge, wrapped in a hint of florals and sprinkled with a dash of litchi. Madness, but I like it.

bobbyferrant

smells of sharp roses over wood & halitosis..blehh

bookwyrmsmith

On me this is a woodsy(rosewood and Patchouli)with spicy pepper and a fruity-berry sort of topnote that could remind someone of cough syrup . I also get some tobacco notes .Overall this could probably be very easily pulled off by a man as this reminds me of Chanel Egoiste,Marc Jacobs Bang and Gres Cabaret (feminine) with some added Lychee in the top-to-mid.

I LOVE it and plan on backing up a few bottles!

rubyred

On me, a harsh, horrid perfume. I took it to work and offered it free to whoever wanted it. No-one did. Deeming it not even suitable for a toilet spray (the usual ignoble end for stinkers) I threw out 100ml. The next time at the chemist I tried it again, thinking that mine must have been old. It was the same. I said to the Sales assistant "Do people really buy this one?" She laughed and said "There's worse, I guess." I don't know about that. I don't want to smell as sharp as crushed tomato stem. It never got to soft, powdery or elegant on me. SheShe sees a woman with mental problems wearing this. Yep, I'd say if this perfume smelled on you like it does on me, you'd have to be bloody mad to wear it.

vicka16

I blind bought Madness Chopard because of notes listed and good reviews. Well, it's not what I expected to be... I find this perfume to be very sharp and bold, more on a masculine side. I don't detect any roses notes, even less litchi or coton candy.
Not sure if I will wear this perfume, so if anybody wants to SWAP pm me.

UPDATE: Hmmm... I don't really like this perfume, buy I feel like I need this sharp, agressive scent in my collection. What a weard perfume!..

UPDATE #2: This perfume is growing on me. I like it more and more. But it's not an every day perfume for sure. It has its own personality and I have to be in a right mood to wear it. And once Madness is on me it makes me feel stronger, more secure and more confident!

mania9

Can anyone tell me whether this contains salicylates? I'm allergic to them so not sure whether I can use my sample.

DarkClarissa

This is such a surprising fragrance, in a good way! Litchi is a very perfumey smelling fruit, but with the pink pepper to tone down its sweetness, the opening blast is spicy/sweet, but not in a cloying way. I adore hibiscus as it has a slightly acidic tang to it naturally and once again, once the perfume has dried down the hibiscus comes to the fore but it never becomes overpowering. The combination of rosewood and cotton candy in the base balance out this sweet yet dry fragrance.

A really unusual and individual perfume - very well done!

catdeluxe84

Sparkling, individual, definitely not for any lady and moment. I cannot see a woman wearing this if she is surrounded by other women, it just triggers lots of intrigue and envy, though it is perfect as a mysterious seduction tool, at a classy dinner. The perfume speaks loud about the self-confident, mature attitude of a queen.

isabella.fr.83

After reading the excellent reviews I had to get a bottle. well... this is the one. I was looking for something different, light fun , a little crazy. Here it is. not over powering but it's definetely ther! and what's even better, it's the first time i gt a compliment from this great guy I fancy! LOL

Is there a little magic ion the bottle?

miZZpuRRfect

madly in love with madness! madness isn t a scent for everyone. you have to be selfconfident and very feminine and sexual. a true get-attention scent but in a good way. men love it! reminds me to ultrared from paco rabanne because of the marshmellow note anf the redish sweet-hot vibe - let's call it madness' very little sister ;) madness is of course thicker, complexer, louder and edgier, rather suitable for nights out than for daywear. sometimes i wear it as well for a shopping-afternoon when i feel in the mood to style me up right :) it let's you feel vampy and it underlines the sexiness of a selfconfident woman dressed elegant and stylish, red lips, red heels, little black dress and black opaque tights. perfect >!<
now i m suprised to learn the nose behind is christine nagel... she's usually composing of course beautiful, but shy and soft scents as i know!
madness is a true gem in the perfumeworld, a unfortunately discontinued one. luckily you need to applie just a bit and a bottle goes along far.
nb. madness has also this poison-vibe in the bottom-note because of the complexity of the blend and the precious rose/rosewood-combo which you can find in all poison perfumes from dior (less pure poison). with closed eyes just smelling you could easely think of a new version of the poison range from dior.

kellseng

LOVE LOVE LOVE MADNESS.....one perfume that i am always asked what i'm wearing. Hard to get a hold of. This was first given to me by my best friend duty free. Said as soon as she smelt it, it reminded her of me.

sashapoppy

I bought my first bottle of this, unsmelled, at Big Lots for 5.00. 4 bottles later Im buying it online for 35.00, so maybe there was a method to Mr Chopards madness.;-) Im glad I bought it without smelling it because if I had I never would have spent the 5.00. This is one of those fragrances whos first impression isnt necessarily the best impression. My advice-try it on before you walk away. Its definately a jewel in the rough, so to speak.

Vamy69

Now this is an attention getter!!! Unlike anything I have ever smelled before in my life. I am not sure yet whether I like this or not. The wood note is overwhelming on me and I can't really get any of the other notes to come out on my skin. This is probably something I would never buy but I am very glad I got to test this. I am on the fence at this time. Not a like but not a dislike. I will give it another try later in the winter when the snow flies and see how it smells then.

SheShe

I would like it, because it's a passionate fragrance, if only I didn't detect a burnt tyre in it! It ruined the whole smell...

It's a wild smell ;) I see a woman with some mental problems, loving a man very very much. It's a fragrance of a mad sex and calming down afterwards. Strong hibiscus, peppery note with wood, lasting power is good, the bottle looks OK. If only there wasn't the tyre :P

Anastasia Mardo

i want this perfume so bad even i didnt get the chance to smell it but i love spicy fragrences n i liked the reviews also i was surprised when i read the name MADNESS it makes me feel calm n peace inside my soul i hope the perfume will make me feel warm too..

Waltzing Matilda

I generally favour orientals but I find Madness way too spicy for my taste. Sorry, not a fan. I ended up using it as air freshener in the loo at work.

Miffymuffin

In the 70's I used to wear a fragrance called Aqua Manda by Goya. I loved it. It was sadly discontinued. I bought 4 sample bottles blind off ebay and this was one of them. It smells very similar to Aqua Manda.
It is ripe and juicy with pepper and a lovely spicy rosy woodyness. A little goes a long way. Just a dab on pulse points lasts all day. Yummy.

mystica

I feel incredibly lucky having been got 2 bottles of this discontinued gem some 3.5 years ago, for only 3.70 GBP for each. It was a blind buy impressed by the price, but wow, it did surprise me.

Chopard Madness is quite a unique leather fragrance. It smells like a luxury leather sofa (to me the one I had in my living room then) + roses + cognac, and old books.

This combination conjures a vivid, particular setting in my mind: The library of an old mansion with baroque style antique furniture, me reading as smoking cigars and sipping my red wine, rose petals around...

When I smell Madness from a different level, concentrating mainly on the leather and rose part, then it conjures a different image: a dominatrix. Yes, that's what would a dominatrix wear, I can't think of anything else to fit better.

Still from a third point of view this would resemble the smell of an old comfy leather jacket circa 1980s, or an old purse- of your grandmothers type.

Smelling Chopard Madness is like looking at an object from different angles, but what you'll see will still be the same thing.

Madness is one hell of a fragrance full of character to enjoy occasionally. Not your everyday stuff...

suile

Loved everything about this one, the champagne like top note (similar to Yvresse), the fruity woody drydown, definitely not one you would mistake for anything else. The name and the bottle really suit the fragrance too, especially if you love red perfume bottles as much as I do.

olga1780

I really love this one! What a unique fragrance!
To me it's woody bordering on gourmand. It's not as sweet as you would think looking at the notes, more woody-spicy, with a hint of sweetness. After about 10 minutes, it's just gorgeous, gorgeous! Especially I love the rosewood note. Literally makes me dizzy with its headiness.....but in a good way. Interstingly, too much spice has almost a minty fresh effect of your nose....never experienced anything like that before.
Yes, it has very powerful sillage (I have EDP), so you do have to really like it to be able to wear it.

Chopard perfumes definitely offer fantastic value for the price...very consistent with their quality.

Jillzilla

I have done an about-face with my opinion of this scent (since the last time I tested it over a year ago) so now I know my chemistry (or nose) must have changed! I have gone from Dislike to Like to Love! It's all about finding the right weather to wear it in, which for me, is warm weather.

Madness used to fall flat on my skin...dusty, pale, and unimpressive. But now, I clearly get a pink pepper-litchi opening, with a powdery woody rose heart, and a soft woody atomic fireball base!

I especially love the heart phase where the sillage was at its maximum, and the fragrance feels woody, powdery and fresh!

kandyfluff

Was not love at first sniff, but i gave it a shot anyway, and now its love :)
For me, this is a frag you'd def want to spray on 10mins before leaving the house. (i do have the EDP)
Starts off very sharp and with a complete 'madness' of cringe worthy scents.
But surprisingly has warmed down to something very winterly and alluring. I can definitely smell a hint of rose and like others say something spicy like cinnamon.
I'm def thinking this could be pulled off on men and will be trying it on my boy later, its very strong and masculine. Perfect for winter!!!

birdofparadise

I have the EDT and its much more welcoming. I love the pink pepper opening and as it develops, I get a hint of liqueur and cinnamon with this fragrance. Warms up beautifully on my skin. A definite must-have for me on cosy fireside evenings or going on a Winter's walk all wrapped up with this fragrance wafting up to envelope me. Wishing for Winter.

suzy Nasr

The only reason I had this, because it was a gift with the Chopard watch I got from the same line. Where I live people more often use scented orietal oils along with the regular perfumes that everyone uses to add a bit of their own culture to how they smell. You wouldn't usualy smell regular perfume on its on on them. Except for this one. This has both mixes. its VERY oriental.
for my use, 1 spray is more than enough. The dry down is good, but not alot of people would tolerate it when they 1st smell it. I personally never detected any floral notes in it. its pure oriental spices.

cloyd42

Enjoyable but not spectacular. Warning: if you're skeptical about pink pepper you will not like this perfume.) Madness opens with wood and lots of pink pepper. When I raised my hand for my first sniff it actually made me sneeze. For about 15 minutes the pepper drowned out everything else. This was about the point that I was going to give up. Finally some interesting sourness (green litchi, kumquat) started to open up and the hibiscus made an appearance. The litchi warmed and sweetened and I'm now enjoying ripe litchi, hibiscus and a discrete underlay of pepper. I believe the rose is there but only because I read it in the notes. As time has passed it's continued to sweeten without the roughness fading. If there were a perfume group of Pink spicy, this would be in it; I have no idea how it could have been classified as a floral.

This is one of the nichier of niches. It's surprisingly sophisticated in the way that abstract modernist art is: it's not typical and it's not popular. This is very definitely for fans of pepper and hot spices. If that's a hole on your shelf pick this up. For that matter it's so inexpensive that you can pick some up for what a decant would normally cost.

Sillage: 4-5 feet but not aggressive
Durability: 3-4 hours
Fabulosity: Special interest. Probably spectacular on a man.
Price to value ratio: really high--a bargain even if you don't like it

relle

Just another reason to try scents. After reading the reviews I was rather hesitant to try. On me, Maddness was gorgeous. I noted 30 seconds of peppery sharpness, with a drydown that morphed into whipped cream with a tart cherry on top, slightly sweet. Madness lasted over 8 hours, leaving me with the impression that it would be "mad" not too pass along my impressions

Annah7

I am so glad that I ordered a sample of it first! It would be a waste of money as the fragrance is heavy, aggressive and suffocating. Everything in it is overdosed as for my taste.

beauty_girl

To me its not floral at all,its oriental spicy, and i think its to strong so i dont like it.

Juma

Thanks to lovely Action I have it. Strong, harsh beginning which slowly fades in warmness.
Mature and modern scent at same time.Love it!!

Action

This one is growing on me for sure! First I had a bit of trouble understanding it, but now I think it is a light gourmand with the cotton flower. I can see this being a child of Christine Nagel. It has a certain mystery that does not reveal itself right away, so it is a mature classy gourmand, without being too heavy.

nyoka

very sharp at first.i smell the pink pepper and it is somewhat sweet, then a beautiful flower blooms that is paet hybiscus and part rose.equally beautiful and creamy sexy.very powerdy and smooth.after a while is mixes yet again, and a woody cotton flower scent waifs up to get my attention.i liver in the south and am very aware of the scent of cotton flowers, this is the first fume ive ever smelled vwith them.this would b beautiful for a starry night out with ur loved one.

aromaminx

downright hot and sexy....well on me anyway..i admit that it is a perfume that can instantly be 'written off' by intensity of top notes.however,if given time a beautiful sweet, yet mature vanilla wraps around me.the bottle is a standout,as is the liquid contained therin.....................go easy on application

jazz444

A very polarizing scent. On me, it starts off with a huge citronella-like note, which obliterates any other top notes. I have to wait at least 30 minutes before I be in the company of others when wearing Madness, because everyone shouts disapproval otherwise. It does calm down somewhat and exhibits some nice rosewood and spice, but in the tug of war of softer vs. shrill, shrill wins out. (I can't imagine anyone wearing this in the summertime; it's definitely an autumn and winter scent.)

Great bottle and packaging, though the spray cap is counterintuitive.

Mad-Lainey

The category gave me creeps at first but I decided to swap my Grain de Folie to madness and I don't regret it. (big thanks to a reliable member - ramonacpc :-)
That perfume is best for cool, frosty winter mornings, it freshens up and keeps you awake, in a positive way :-)
I cannot smell pink pepper, it is not as dominant as in ''Lola''.
I know what I am about to say now is awkward but please, Ladies bear in mind that sense of smell is different to everyone and we all have different asosciations with perfumes.
Madness notes remind me of freshly sharpened kajals (lovely wood notes) which have been put into the rosewood box along with a handful of fresh rose petals. And whoever put these into the box, had their hands mucky from munching cotton candy :-)
The fragrance may be of particular interest to rose & rosewood lovers. I have not worn it on warm days but winter days work with that fragrance well :-)
I could see some heads turning when I came into my office this morning:-)

Sissi

This intoxicating aroma with the blendings of Pink Pepper Brazilian Rosewood rose yummy cotten candy pink litchi and i pick a scent of raspberry
in this perfume. deep sultry it wasn't
what i expected i expected more pungent
like with a cinnamon note but it a has a more deeper more laqcard woodsey
scent i just love the bottle i love
the Deep Red and the shape is a reminisence of a 1980's videogame Design i just love it.

c3c

As mentioned by others, Madness starts out strong and fades to a very soft warm scent. I wasn't sure about the strong beginning but after fading to the softer dry down it began to grow on me.

It has the sweetness of Lychee, a touch of rose and just the right amount of rosewood. Sweet, softly floral & woody. Madness reminds me of Queen without the strong Vicks cherry lozenge smell I pick up in Queen. It's in the style realm though.

For me it's definitely a keeper. Thanks a.k.a warum for swapping this with me!

missk

Madness represents my childhood in lots of ways. Not in the mad aspect but from the way it smells.

From the first spray on the skin this fragrance was strong and fruity. I sensed strong candied raspberry, even though it is not listed here. I was always one of those strange kids that loved raspberry cordial with only a small amount of water. I hated heavily diluted cordial. Madness is that rich, syrupy red, raspberry flavoured cordial. It smells just like it.

I can understand that for some people this is sickly, but to me this is rich and sweet, the way I like it. Slightly masculine, but feminine and elegant at the same time, Madness can be rather conflicting.

The heart of rose and hibiscus reminds me of my mother's garden before she pulled them out and replaced them with a cactus garden. I used to take the petals and mash them up in a bowl of hot water to make what I called "flower soup" as a child.

The drydown which is mostly fairyfloss, I'm sure is a smell that most people remember as a child. The woodsy notes that compliment the sugary sweet fairyfloss makes me think of a Circus. The smell of sawdust and candy polluting the air.

A strange fragrance it certainly is, but a lovely one at that. For me the experience is entirely personal, but for others you may find other similarities to your childhood and if you don't you may just like Madness simply because of the composition. Either way I recommend.

kastehelmi

This fragrance opens with a burst of SOURNESS. I am a fan of citrus notes, but lychee in this context gives a feeling of "Warheads" candy-have you ever tried those?

I have tried "Atomic Fireballs" and I don't like them-but, to stay on the subject, I see the comparison. It goes from "spicy" to sweet very, very quickly.

There is a small burst of pink pepper, however, Madness doesn't meet my definition of spicy.

Once the sourness subsides I smell a combination of rosewood-and the hibiscus and rose, which last quite a while on me. I am not a fan of cotton candy, so I don't like the smell combined with anything.

The cotton candy note here is indeed obnoxious to me, but makes an interesting contrast to the rose-rosewood, and the hibiscus which keeps a slight tanginess once the fragrance reaches the straightforward flowery powdery stage.

I would really enjoy this scent if there was more rosewood....But this far, I like it, that is, after the top notes pass, and before it becomes too sweet. I could do without it, but I love the name, and the bottle is quite nice. This might be better during hot weather, or wonderful layered with another woodier scent with rose in the center.

I will wear sometimes after I am being too hedonistic, wearing only scents that I love, that suit me well. This will be one of my challenging scents, and will probably grow on me.

tsa22

I don't like this perfume! You almost smell like a man! It's so strong!

Calyx

The olfactive group classification ALMOST scared me off trying this; floral woody musks and I don't usually get along.

However, I think the classification is inaccurate :-) This is more of a spicy oriental floral, or maybe oriental woody. On my skin, this goes from pink pepper to rosewood in 60 seconds--I don't smell the lychee or floral notes at all.

And that's a good thing.

This is another one of those scents where it wasn't love at first sniff for me, but now... I'm wearing it to bed on these cold December nights and loving what's left of the scent on the sheets in the morning!

sherapop

Red hots, fire-stix jolly ranchers, atomic fire balls or hot tamales? These are subtle nuances, and I can't decide which one best describes the scent in which I am currently enveloped: MADNESS by Chopard.

Based on my experience with Casmir--and the red bottle, of course--I was expecting sweetness. But my expectations have been exceeded! The opening was more like pepper spray, but now that it has settled down, I feel that I have spent the day eating candies that leave your tongue bright red. Or am I now a fire-exuding vixen?

I can see wearing MADNESS on occasion, as a novelty scent--perhaps at Christmas time. In a red silk dress! For strictly a winter affair!

Jillzilla

I wasn't as impressed with this fragrance as I thought I would be. Based on reviews, I was really hoping for bold notes, but on my skin it was incredibly soft, right from the start. In terms of intensity, it was like the ghost of an atomic fireball. I did get to experience the pepper litchi top notes, but it almost immediately became a delicate, slightly sweet, rose-cinnamon scent. It would probably be a good work fragrance for me, but I look forward to trying it in warmer weather to see if there is a favorable difference.

UPDATE: Warm weather improved this scent dramatically on my skin. The cinnamon note is more pronounced, and the base is sweet, woody, and powdery.

perfumesheep

Madness is opening with a very spicy sharp, pepper and wood burst which is just MAD.After a few minutes it becomes gentler and calmer. It is a good winter scent in my opinion. It´s quite strong, not sweet and quite classy.I wish I could smell more of the litchi but the pepper and wood notes are just too strong. Madness is not love at first sniff for me but after wearing it a few times I can say that I like it. And what is good as well is that you can get it at bargain prices on the web.

vioversilver

A very atomic fireball candy scent , very hot , but I happen to like hot and spicy scents, food too , so that's working for me with this fragrance.

The florals seem to take their time to appear on my skin, so I get mostly the hot candy effect.

This is quite sweet in my opinion, it would of suited me just fine if it had more woods and rose , would be more complete somehow.
Still though -
Playful, unique , fun smell , like what a naughty little pixie would smell like...
The bottle is pretty cool too.

I want to add that its now a few weeks later; the weather has gotten a lot cooler and Madness seems to wear better on me in cool weather, not as sweet ( for me at least) Even better I can detect more of a rose with sharp woods now. Very nice !

Taxidermy

I purchased it unsniffed, because of the fabulous bottle and the name (and great price of course:)) I had expected something really daring, but I didn't find it so.

The scent is missing something. It's nice, not ordinary and so on, but it feels like it's incomplete.
I get too much litchi and can't detect pepper at all. Maybe it's my nose's fault. I'd like it to be more woody and spicy. Instead I get hot raspberry tea (it's a smell of litchi) mixed with a cough syrup.
I find it more bitter than sweet. Actually, it's not sweet at all. I'm not a fan of sweetness, but where is the cotton candy?
Madness is warm and soft enough to comfort you during cold days.

As I said before, it's a nice and uncommon fragrance, but... Unfortunately I'm not mad about Madness. I like it, but don't love it. Not so lucky:) Well, at least, I didn't find it unpleasant as some of you.

Spring25

This one opens like one of those red hot fireball candies - very spicy! I detected alot of woodiness in the the first half hour or so too. Then, all of a sudden, this fragrance completely transforms into a sweet pink floral. Madness indeed! It seems to have a split personality. I prefer the sweet to the spicy, but the whole effect is very interesting.

lillybee

I'm still undecided. I bought a miniature of this. On first whiff I was getting lots of woods and red berries, yummy! Then on my skin the pepper quickly takes over with some more woods and now I smell something very close to Anglomania. Yes, leathery rose, but without the annoying Maxi Pad effect.

A few hours later it becomes a slightly softer woody-rose. I only get the ambery 'candy' warmth after 5 - 6 hours wear, I was hoping that it would be peeking out earlier, now it feels it's too little, too late. The phases don't seem to blend in with each other so the scent just falls apart. Plus it stays sharp for too long. I'll have to re-test it in winter, it may work better.

Moyra

Madness was another "gamble" perfume for me, I bought it unsniffed based on the reviews, the notes and the other Chopard Perfumes I own and enjoy (Wish, Casmir).
The first time I wore it I stepped out of the shower after a day of wearing something sweet, fruity and oriental-ish (L by Lolita Lempicka), and I absolutely hated it. It seemed harsh and sour after the soft orange coziness my nose had become used to.
Stubborn as I am, I decided to try again after a day of not wearing perfume, and yes, I sort of "get" the magic. Although its not one the fruit salady concoctions that have become the standard of today, it is a classic composition.
It does start a little stridently, screeching through the pepper notes, but quickly softens through the slightly leathery nubuk (I suppose, although I thought "nubuk" was another name for "fake leather" used to cover couches). Its a strange leather/plasticky note, which trails the woods behind it wrapped in flowers and fruits.
I would not describe this scent as sweet or cotton candy like in any way, but then my skin has the tendency to obviate the sweet notes and race for the resins and woods.
This is not a simple, modern day "what you smell in the bottle is what you get" type of fragrance. Its very much a scent that needs to develop and meld with your skin's chemistry. When the drydown comes around, everything sings in harmony and it smells extremely elegant, very "wealthy lady femme fatale", and very classic.
Its probably reasonably well suited to office wear if you spray it on discreetly, although I see it more as an evening or special occasion scent. The sillage is good, although not vast, the lasting power on me is about 6 hours, which is decent.

Edit, one year later : This was actually more a test of endurance than a perfume. It took ages to reach a place where it didn't screech of sour pencil shavings, and although I am willing to "work" with perfumes that need to develop on the skin, this was never anything but uncomfortable.
I gave it away.

weegee

Multi-layered, almost boozy, very warm & sexy - a red bottle suits it very, very well. There's a LOT going on here considering the few notes listed. Rosewood & cotton candy do make for an unusual base! There's something of a caramel note in the drydown that makes it quite different from other ambery scents.

Lovely to spray on before bed, it reminds me more of fragrances from the 1940's than anything developed more recently.

Christine Nagel is also the nose for Fendi's Theorema. Madness has become a "must have" for me, so it will likely be discontinued...

tommy_girl

Don't look at the notes and the shape of bottle.it's a very classic perfume in a modern package.
but who can deny that it's really provocative and appealing?it really is.it smells perfect for boudoir and the sales man told me that it has some provocative notes for the opposite sex too.
the perfume...hmm,I don't get any of the top notes listed here.I can smell about nothing related to litchi, but I smell so many rose.some kind of sweet and very provocative rose that reminds me a bit midnight poison.I should say that it's very sweet at the same time.there isn't any thing fruity over there.it's a warm sweet rose for a classic female.whether you're young or middle aged, you'll like it if you like classics, but if you're not into classic perfumes,it won't do anything to you.
by the way,it's REALLY long lasting.I have it on my wrist for 3 hours now and still it's strong just like the moment I wore it.
please don't wear it for office nor for casual.it's sexy and it can't hide it.

om

I bought it without testing.. In perfume shop, where young perfume sales man, who knows me very well, said that is not for me. And I asked him: "Why?" -You are too young for it (kind of him:). I took a risk and now I am very happy about that. I understood, that salesman judged perfume only from its top notes, which really a bit reminded me of smell of wardrobe in old houses, but only some half of an hour.. After that it is nothing old, but warm and nice, not too sweet, not aggressive.. I feel it like nice aura around my skin.. Staying power also very good - few sprays survived from morning till dust..
Packing and bottle are quite tricky. You can open box from several different sides and it makes your life more complicated if won't find right one -it took me few times to discover, that:)) And bottle itself has sprayer which you have to turn before you spray - so I managed first spray to do into my eyes:) I saw in the shop sprayer broken at all, that only proves - I am not alone to have problems with it;)

All I could think after all this experience is, that this stuff is not for a mads:)

allexa27

Madness reminds me very very very much of Nu edt YSL and Agent provocateur ,mixed together

triplex

Oh my word the stayingpower of this perfume!! Usually they don´t last for very long on my skin but this one.. I sprayed it around 18.00. Did a lot of stuff like sauna, shower, sleeping, swimming, shower again and I still smelled it at 13.00 the day after. Thats incredible. Now to the scent itself:
Exotic fruity, sweet and peppery at the same time. The beggining is almost too strong but the first harshness fades away pretty quickly. I know there is no raspberry in it but I still think it smells a bit of it anyway. The drydown is warm, woody and almost incensy with a whiff of burnt sugar. Lovely, sweet and sexy at the same time.

mellybee

I always have to have it in my collection. Chopard Madness cheers me up. To be honest I didn't like it at the very first time. I bought it unsniffed and I found it quite violent, but a few days later I smelt a very lovely soft powdery scent on my clothes and I realized that it was the Madness. I enjoy the red berries with pepper in the start-up and the cotton candy-ish drydown, where the fruits are still vivid.

snobuni77

I am still trying to get use to this perfume. The reviews below are pretty correct as this is a very sweet perfume(cotton candy"ish")mixed with pepper.
It is very different than anything I have or have tested before. The first time I put this on the pepper was really overwhelming "but" today it is more sweet & I have to "try" to smell the pepper (or put my nose directly on my skin).
It is a strong perfume so I anticipate having my 2.5 oz bottle for a very long time.I only need to apply a little bit of this to get noticed.
It will be the best in cold weather as it can be overwhelming & even a bit stuffy(its thick) if used at the wrong time.
This perfume is still great in my book & I am glad to have it in my collection

I was given this at Christmas in a miniature gift set with various other perfumes. I really like it's spicy aroma and it seems to suit me but I don't like the name. Especially when friends ask what perfume you are wearing.

mmmm.... spicy pepper is right, i was afraid that i wouldn't like this because it has fickle reviews, but it was way better than what i originally could have imagined. i'm not saying i would spend the cash for a full sized bottle, but i'm happy with the mini that i have. it should last me a long time :). madness is a scent that is unique and memorable and not something that you can pick off of any shelf. :)try it if you're bold because this fragrances is NOT for the faint of heart! <3

Very hot! Pepper and sweet cotton candy -really a combination of extreme differences. Like it, but it is a little bit strong, suits for cold winter evenings

The duality of this fragrance is amazing-sweet and hot-aggressive and sublime- this creation produces pleasureable condradictions and harmonious discords. The stinging, and at the same time, bright pepper- ignites the scent, and cotinues- the initial zing doesn't fade-it stays- and toys with the stable velvety middle notes and base for hours. The middle notes and base are a delicious and smooth combination, incessantly accentuated by the constant dance of the fruits and pepper. The middle notes and base can be appreciated separately, too, even with all the commotion. The Brazillian Rose Wood (Pao Rosa Wood as listed above) and nubuck are almost undecteble individually, and the cotton candy is strong, however not an isolated single scent-it is constantly mingling with the other personalities. This is an intense, untraditional, incongruent, and yet homogeneous scent!

Madness is hot, with big temperament. In first phase smells roses and seasonings, first of all - pepper. Then, adjoins sweet, tender note of vanilla. For me Madness is oriental smell. Remember me a bit Rouge of Hermes, but Madness is more youthful and modern. Strong, original and very femine smell in the color red. Madness has very good energy for me. I like it.

It's a sweet n' spicy perfume.I love it from from sharp beginning to the cotton candy end.

For my nose this fragrance smells like raspberry jam with black and chilli peppers:)Sweet and piquant, incomparable to anything. Love it!

Very exciting perfume, I really agree that one must be brave to spray it on. Way too sour, way too much cinnamon in it, but my opinion is that the dry-dowm worths to wait for it.

Aiona

I wish I had been brave enough to spray this on my skin. However, one whiff of the spray nozzle, and I was off-put. It's unlike anything I've ever smelled! Perhaps the dry-down is different, but. . . perhaps I'll be brave enough to try it some other day.

I just received this in the mail today and have never smelled it before. I scored it for $6 on ebay, so I figured I didn't have much to lose if I didn't like it. It's lovely. However, WAY too powdery for my tastes. The powderiness is too much for me, but I adore the spiciness in the top notes and the dry down is fairly elegant. The bottle looks like it's for teens or younger women, but this is for a classy, sophisticated mature woman (I was totally surprised by this). It's dazzling and luxurious. For winter wear on special occasions. I like it, but not for me. I have never been able to get a headache from a perfume before, but this one did.
