Eau Sauvage Parfum by Dior is a Citrus Aromatic fragrance for men. Eau Sauvage Parfum was launched in 2012. The nose behind this fragrance is François Demachy. Top notes are Bergamot, Citron and Petitgrain; middle notes are Vetiver, Lavender and Hedione; base notes are Myrrh, Oakmoss and Patchouli.

The legendary fresh masculine fragrance by Dior - Eau Sauvage from 1966, is re-interpreted and re-launched in spring of 2011 in stronger concentration - as Eau Sauvage Parfum.

This classic citrus - aromatic composition has been updated and enriched with mysterious accords of myrrh, together with dry and woody vetiver that emphasizes the masculine character of this fragrance. Its original creator is the famous perfumer Edmond Roudnitska, while the new edition is signed by the current in-house Dior perfumer, Francois Demachy. The revealed notes of the new composition are: bergamot on the top, myrrh resin in the heart and dry vetiver in the base.

Dior Eau Sauvage Parfum is available from mid-May 2012 as 50 and 100 ml Eau de Parfum.

This is bold, dark, heavy and absolute masculine. Love it!

Yessirskii

This site should add a chart that tells you what age range a cologne is best suited for. No surprise here but this cologne is probably not going to work on most people under 30-40 years old. Wouldn't say its worth buying nowadays.

AJ73

I wrote a review on Eau Sauvage Parfum Dior in 2013. That was clearly the original formulation with Myrrh. Now the same parfum is formulated with Elemi instead. These are both resins but their fragrance is very different. Probably still a good parfum but not what it once was.

If you are looking for that Myrrh what once was in Eau Sauvage Parfum you can find it in the newest batch (I-XXIII) of Fueguia 1833 Misiones. That is the same wonderful high quality Myrrh but in a different parfum.

I am always aware when I see Elemi in a composition. I find it often too voluptuous, sticky and unpleasant. The only parfum so far where I like elemi is in Klubwasser by Wienerblut.

The best Myrrh that I ever experienced in a fragrance however was by far Eau Sauvage Parfum Dior and now in the latest Misiones. Parfum batches are confusing like that as for example the former batches of Misiones were more about Olibanum. Also an amazing resin.

bvarney_zip

I just bought a 10ML new-in-box for $45 off eBay. I am sooo glad I didn’t fork over hundreds for a full bottle of this hard-to-find version. To my nose this is inferior to the 2017 reformulation. It isn’t as sparkly or bright and has a weird mossy almost rotting vegetal note to it…yeesh! Plus it is more muted with little projection.

Robusto

100% perfection in a bottle. Class, sophistication, and elegance. Black label reigns supreme to every “gentleman” fragrance, IMO.

Ksj_

This is your quintessential fougere/masculine/now I am becoming a man scent. However, this isn't your loud grandpa stench that something like Polo Green represents. No, it's that not, it's much more subtle in wearing and yet maintains a formal approach.

Side note:

I really enjoy the black licorice/anise accord in this, and surprisingly it's not listed above. I also think it's worth sampling when you reach your 30s, and want something formal in wearing. This could very well become your signature scent for those big formal moments in your life.

KeithP

I bought this after using a sample, I was after a Fougere and I loved DHP, so thought I'd give this a go.
I like it, it's dense and thick, It doesn't seem to project massively, rather you feel like you have a thick fog around you enveloping you.

Now for my regret. After buying this, I got samples of Penhaligons Sartorial, and TF Beau De Jour. I'm all for amassing a collection, but I would have almost certainly not bought this if I bought either of those two mentioned first.

Took me a while to value this masterpiece. Also I have noticed that unfortunately this isn't for young people like me and would rather smell this on a 30-35+ y/o gentleman. definitely a fall fragrance

M.mr.Perfumer

My characteristic perfume of the great master Edmond Roudnitska. Timeless classic. One of the best from the house of Dior. Excellent performance!!

Ropall

Il mio profumo preferito. Ho la formulazione 2012, non ho mai provato la 2017 ma non credo possa essere migliore. Love.

Research

Among my top three fragrances. I love it. Stronger and deeper than newer formulations.

Maxizhu

Heart of darkness.
A cult fragrance.
Have used up a bottle pre-2017 and still have an unopened box pre-2017 bottle.

pierreelkhoury

When I first purchased this beauty, I thought that myrrh was my favorite note, and I started hopelessly chasing every myrrh-heavy perfume. Then I understood that Francois Demachy (and every perfumer) is the main ingredient of a perfume, not the notes.

pronose

Why they needed to reformulate this? Francois Demachy! The loves to reformulate even his own Fragrances! The 2017 version is just a copy of the original version! Wrong decision by all means!

Apache1830

I have a 10ml of this one, and I had a full bottle of the 2017 version.

This one have the best opening, the 2017 opening is cloying and too bright, too heavy.

Both are amazing after that. Maybe this one is a bit darker, a touch more mature. But both smells deep, gorgeous...

If I could, I would get the 2012 just for the pleasure of having it. I sold my 2017, because I find it hard for me to wear it tbh. It shines with a mature wearer, it's hard to wear it right if you're under 35-40 minimum, with a good dress code.

Donjuandemarco

Amazing, performance off the roof, scent itself is niche of designer fragrance, no wonder they reformulate it for being unfair to sell in that category. Don’t get me wrong i love the 2017 version as well but if 2017 is milk, this one is whipped cream. Just 1 spray on the chest and i am good to go for entire day, half a spray on a hot summer evening layered with eau sauvage cologne and just perfect.

Vape

Was my signature scent until they broke it, now the remaining juice I have is saved for special occasions.
Luxurious, enveloping and comforting. I don't have the money or the trappings that the scent summons to mind, but I wear it and love it all the same. Massive compliment puller with incredible performance. One of my all time favourites.

cedrat

This gets very overwhelming if you spray it heavily, even in the dead of winter. Perhaps this is best enjoyed with a light hand. A little goes a long way.

Phresh Man

I used to wear this alot during the fall months... I love wearing this with my trench peacoat and my nice hat... I feel so classic when wearing this, it makes you wanna walk past people so they can smell quality!

oceansoflorewi

I commented earlier but in the second wearing I REALLY pick up the zippy lemony citron at the top!

Vintage girl scout lemon pastry cremes (Lemon creme cookies) at a musty gothic graveyard. This is stunning! I've never smelled sweet sugary lemons done so dark and oriented for cold weather.

My first review was in Sept- so weird how much the zippy lemon is coming through now- is it the dry cold weather? Very cool.

Absolute must if you are a Chanel Allure Blanche/ D&G PH fan! Same creamy citrus vibes but with a gothic musty edge.

Barunario

Bought this gem a few days ago and I absolutely love it!

I've only had 2 full bottle perfume at hand (Versace Eros EDT & Guerlain L'Homme EDT) and I'm not good at describing scents but this has that fresh-mysterious opening (not that loud, straightforward fresh). After a few minutes it changes into warm, classy scent (you won't smell the same with your surroundings). After a few hours, you're left with that sweet scent which lasts for the rest of the day, even until late night (probably vanilla?). But it's not just sweet, you still get various scent which I find it hard ro pin-point.

I was severely torn amongst Dior Eau Sauvage Parfum, DHI, Guerlain Vetiver and Allure Homme Sport Extreme (it took me DAYS visiting the same store to test each one on strips & on my skin). It was a difficult decision but finally I go with Eau Sauvage.

DHI - I ditched DHI because it smells kinda same all the way through and not as long lasting as eau sauvage (it smells sexy, tho).

Guerlain Vetiver - I get the chance to whiff the long bottled version and IMO it clearly IS BETTER than the new packaged one. But I ditched this coz the drydown makes me smell like an old book. What a shame, coz I've heard this is the legendary vetiver fragrance.

Allure Homme Sport Extreme - I ditched it because it's expensive 🥲 it's very nice, tho. Definitely gonna put my hands on it next time.

Definitely worth it.

raef_sherif

Masterpiece with beast performance that suis a millioner wearing a creamy white jacket with an open sky blue silk shirt having dinner with his beautiful lady on his yacht with roses, candle lights, and a music jazz band playing in the background

oceansoflorewi

2013 first formulation just came. Love at first spray. I. Am. CAPTIVATED.

This smells like fresh sugar cookies on a plate at a musty gothic graveyard. Sweetness gone to waste at a desolate isolated crypt. Mice squeaking. Light drizzle.

Very gothic & haunting yet sweet & enticing. I hear ghosts in shrouds hallowing as i smell this. Dark haunted house level of Mario Brothers. The theme to American Horror story.

Why have no reviews mentioned how delightfully spooky and creepy this is? I love the macabre. And that bottle with the olive green brown juice. Hands down the most beautiful presentation I have ever seen in a fragrance. Looks like this was found in someone's attic from 1925.

I'm not sure who and what id wear this for as the scent is very avant guarde similar to Narcisso Rodriguez for him. Possibly I would wear this in a winters evening at an art show or basement theater production. When I ever I want to feel grungy rebellious and eccentric. It's bizarre to me people call this an elegant professional scent- not at ALL.

It sort of reminds me of the scent of vintage interiors. Like that sweet dank damp woody soil smell you smell at an old museum, school, or library. Scents that smell like interior design are odd to me- it's a weird inspiration. SJP Stash smells like a literal new teakwood table. This sort of goes along that vibe. But its beautiful- the aroma is present yet modest. I'm thinking its a high quality Myrrh I smell- I notice this note isn't in many fragrances. Is it due to it's spiritual coveted roots?

I don't get green from this- more like a brownish gray scent- like the color TAUPE. I'm not sure if I've ever smelled a taupe smell. Artisan Taupe for sure if JV stole this DNA. Worth every freaking inflated vintage priced penny If you're a collector! There's virtually nothing in my collection like this of over 100 modern and rare vintage fragrances. I'm a patient vintage hunter but this one was near impossible to find! Were not many of these made in US or something?

To think with Demachy retired it's unlikely fragrances moving forward will have this style. Now that I think about it Dior Homme intense, Fahrenheit parfum, and Elixir have similar gothic styles. Perfect 10 in Dior quality, uniqueness, scent, and collectible factor, but a lousy 6 in versatility and functionality.

Track you down a decant first! I would have myself but decants are even more rare to find of the 2012 parfum.

OVERALL: It reminds me a lot of vintage Le Male; powdery green aromatic vanilla like scent, especially when it heads more toward the base- I get that same powdery sweetness you get in the 12-24 hour Le Male silage. I like this better than Le Male due to its gothic haunting elements.

vhild

I had this version, and while I loved the scent, in the end it was too overpowering and sweet for me to wear. I mean, just one spray and everyone around could smell you for the whole day!

kingderella

I like this specific version - Eau Sauvage Parfum 2012 - better than any other I've tried. I thought it was deeper and greener, and it didn't have the vanilla drydown that I can't stand in the 2017 re-launch.

Eau Sauvage Parfum 2012 is a very mature scent, which is why I didn't buy it at the time. I thought I was too young for it, and I was right about that, too. Now in my late 30es, I think I'm probably still a bit young for it. But I wish I had bought it anyway because now this version is discontinued, what a bummer.

Isomies

Works perfectly with the Edt! To the base notes spray fiew EdP, then upper layer with Edt! Voila, you got the most versatile fresh ambient citrus green 💚!

Ford4630

Definitely an old-skool but classy scent with unbelievably good performance. Longevity and projection are off the scale, and just one spray is all it takes to smell amazing. An excellent flanker to the original but with more depth, complexity and heaviness. The true essence of a gentleman in a bottle.

Konga5000

A lot of these reviews seem to be of the NEW incarnation . not the "vintage" - which is a green myrrh BOMB.

VETTIVAER

Reviewers say that this is a vetiver forward fragrance with myrrh bringing a resinous vibe, etc. I am ashamed to admit I fell for the rave reviews.

Unlike the EdT which has a surprisingly long lasting citrus element followed by hedione, any citrus that was present in Eau Sauvage Parfum disappears in a flash. Aromatic lavender brings sharpness to the nose, followed by hedione and white flowers à la Guerlain Homme EdP, supported by a generous base of oakmoss. The oakmoss gets stronger and darker as the florals fade. Vetiver and myrrh are unnoticeable to my nose.

The quality is undeniable, amd the blending is superb, but this scent does not share the class and complexity of Edmond Roudnitska's original.

Eau Yes

Love the scent, how do find out what year/batch number you have?

Docplaya

I tried a 3ml decant. I have given this a number of wears. I like old school fragrances. However, this comes across as too "perfumy" for my taste. Once the citrus notes dissipate, the dry-down is pungent. Maybe due to the Myrrh as mentioned below. It does have great longevity and projection so easy on the sprays. Overall, this is a dislike for me.

Eau Sauvage EDP is masculine, intriguing, powerful, beautiful, and dark. It shares the herbal and mossy notes with Eau Sauvage EDT, but as time goes on, the EDP is taken over by myrrh and musk, with hints of vanilla and spice. The citrus notes of Eau Sauvage EDT are much reduced in favor of these darker scents. This scent has more of a fall to winter feel for me, as compared to the EDT or the Eau Sauvage aftershave. But I think it's beautiful and could be worn any day of the year, and almost any occasion.

This projects much more strongly than the EDT, and the scent seems to stay fuller longer. It never turns bad, so even after it stops projecting, you can sniff your shirt and feel great all over again.

There's only one caveat in my mind, and here it is: One or more of the ingredients in here can really induce headaches in some people. So I can't wear this very often. It might be for the best, as it can give me a slight headache occasionally too. I am sure it's one of the unlisted "parfum" ingredients. It's not hedione, as that is in the EDT, which doesn't bother anyone in my family. I wish perfumers would list their ingredients so I could figure it out more easily.

These impressions are based on a decant of Eau Sauvage EDP, which is probably from the 2017 formulation (but it could be 2012, and I can't say for sure).

In summary, it's amazing! ... But I would recommend testing it before you buy a big bottle.

samim69

A Masterpiece . If you wear one million ,Chanel Bleu or convectus then this is definitely not a perfum for you.

FragLoverMNE

Hello guys,

Looking into my collection I forgot that I have Dior Eau Sauvage PARFUM.

Tbo, I even forgot how it smells, thats why I sprayed it 2x on my forearm 5 minutes ago.
On my skin it opens like someone squeezed a fresh lemon zest on my skin with little bit of bergamot juice, then it transits to vetiver which is clean here and I really like it. Will update a little bit later again but as I can see this scent can be worn throughout all year, maybe not on summer day but temperatures between 0-25 degrees celsius in a white shirt ocassion with ease!

Update: After 3h of wear it’s all about the myrrh. Gentlemanly, 35+ men should be the crowd for this.

Longevity: 8h
Sillage: Moderate

AA4102

Feels like Eau Sauvage edt gone to the DARK side, and this is what a parfum should be – Deeper. Darker.

Smells wonderful, and a bit old school type of fragrance. But it's NOT for me...just yet. Maybe a few more years and I'd be rocking this confidently.

jasonheyward70

I love this!
Still love the new formulation just as much.
This is deeper and not as bright.
Perfect for a crisp cold winters day or night out.
Class in a great bottle, love the black label and black atomiser.

Easily a 9/10

bethnalween

Utterly timeless and wonderful! I always reach for this when i want to feel a million dollars, it just radiates elegance and charm. It's an old-school fragrance but its not stuffy nor outdated, its Sinatra in Jordans. It also seems to change based on the season, truly a versatile gem.

Fanteluren

It's a strange world. I originally didn't like this, but last evening I decided to put it on before bed and was intoxicated to sleep by this marvellous potion. Recommended.

Nickfarbeyond

Sophisticated gentlemanly fragrance. Started to wear this in summer strangely enough and it sweetens up and really shines! Easy on the sprays though :)

rowan.walters

Eau Sauvage EDP is classy yet unpretentious - crisp, fresh, and lemon-y, with a resinous-woody dimension not present in the earlier iterations that seems to be the foundation for its improved longevity.
The EDP and the black label Extrème complement one another supremely well - layering one over the other consolidates without overwhelming, and really improves longevity - enough to make it through a nuit blanche.

mrluctoretemergo

Masterpiece. Try and you will be sold. Period.

A bottle of the 2012 version:
I love this!
Mental image: clean rich successful tall man who’s nasty in bed and does get his hand dirty every now and then.
It’s sweet and clean yet there is a big part of it that is loud and edgy.
Performance is good, quality is high. If you can find it, blind buy it, if you don’t like it, you will probably make money re-selling it! ;)

olfactoryfan

Just watched a remarkable documentary following François Demachy as he travels the world to visit the places and meet the people who grow the raw ingredients that inspire him and fuel his creations. Check it out, it's simply called 'Nose'.

Thought I'd better get in character for the screening, so I selected my favourite Demachy fragrance: Dior's Eau Sauvage Parfum, 2012.

And what an exquisite scent this is. Velvety-smooth seduction, Top 10 forevs.

Crusader Smitty

I recently found a BNIB bottle of this at a local retail store, I brought it and found out it was an original 2012 formulation. I really love this fragrance and am lucky enough to own 4 bottles now. I must say the 2012 is more darker than the others and it is stunning.

Out of all my Myrrh based fragrances this is my favorite, from the top til drydown I love every bit. Tragic it has been discontinued so if you find a bottle grab it!

Good longevity and projection. Stella fragrance all round.

10/10

ScentManJojo

At first, this was a shaky thumbs up. I honestly didn't care for the opening of MYRRH, MYRRH, CITRON and MYRRH. That was in 2016, when I first got the fragrance. Now though... WOW! What an amazing and stunning fragrance. There are vibes of different juices I get in the opening depending on what my nose picks up first. I do really enjoy the fragrance from start to finish. It is strong on my skin and last 8 plus hours. Nice mix of the myrrh and vetiver at the end. Spring, fall and winter would be the best times to wear this juice IMO. Try before you buy due to pricing... otherwise, Enjoy!

Konga5000

Cracked open my 2012 today after not using it for a year . Wow. Myrrh is the STAR of this show and everything is constructed around it . Beautiful composition with nice body & longevity . I have no clue what the new version smells like . EDIT: 2012 = All day whiffs !

fragrantica_fan

The ES EDP 2012 smells nothing like the ES EDT. It should be called Dior's homage to Chanel Pour Monsieur EDP because they smell very very similar on my skin during drydown. The 2012 projects like a beast so don't overspray. 2 sprays max should do it. It works better during colder temperature as it can smell heavy and powdery when the weather gets warm.

Mr. Boston

This is one of my favourite perfumes of all time. Without repeating what other reviewers have said, the main difference between 2012 and 2017 versions is the substitution of Elemy (2017) for the Myrrh (2012). That change will be slightly noticeable in the opening and mid, and the 2017 version presents slightly brighter and less smoky in that phase of the experience.

In the dry down however they are %99 percent similar and I don’t see the value in paying eBay scalpers $2-300 for the 2012 version when the 2017 can still be found for half that price at some trusted discounters. I own both 2012 and 2017 versions of this perfume (2 x 100ml bottles of each version) so say this honestly with no bias or sour grapes over not being able to access or afford the 2012 version.

As others have said - this is a strong fragrance, so less is more. 10/10

lovetribe

as many have written the opening is very sharp like a citric-acidic almost gone bad but after a few minutes myrrh, patchouli and vetiver make this bottle the most fantastic commercial perfume ever created. clean but not too much, dark but not too much, balsamic, masculine. longevity 36 hours. fantastic sillage. 10/10

skaccomatto

With Eau Sauvage Parfum, we are very close to perfection as far as designer fragrances go. I had this small sample from 2013 (batch 3P01) that was waiting to be tested, and I'm almost angry at myself to have waited so long!

If it's not for the beautiful dark lavender note in the opening, supported by lighter citrusy notes and that scream masculinity from every molecules; maybe you'll love ESP for its outstanding incensy and smoky myrrh which reminds at times of a beautiful and majestic gothic cathedral, at times a refined, old barbershop all wood and leather sofas. The transition between the lavander and the myrrh, to me, is so natural and well crafted that I cannot stop smelling my arm. The drydown offers more masculinity, a softer version of it - like a loving father caught in a more intimate moment with his family. I also smell a bit of chinotto, which is usually bittersweet and darker among citruses, but might be just the myrrh working with the bergamot in the opening, or the sweetness of the patchouly going hand in hand with the smoky side of the myrrh/vetiver (which I do not smell).

Dior ESP is a classy and refined perfume, with a luscious sweet drydown whose slightly powdery patchouli, and what's left of the myrrh, completely fills the room. I've had many people getting into my office today and asking what was that fantastic scent - and I just spritzed twice on my arm! Projection is really enormous as is its longevity - it's already more than 10 hours since I sprayed it and it is still totally present and projecting in the room and on my arm.

You may like or dislike (I love!) the single notes in ESP, but you cannot remain indifferent to the art and craft behind its creation; it's timeless, it's a masterpiece. I haven't tried the "new" 2017 version yet - unfortunately, this splendid juice in its 2012 formulation has been discontinued.

Caldrumr

This is very nice stuff.
Light and airy citrus, a thick punch of vetiver, and a ton of deep and dark myrrh.
It is powerful stuff. If you go and spray this like you spray your typical citrus cologne, you are going to be choking out entire rooms.
Long lasting, projecting, and very smooth.
A great late night or cold weather scent.

Talal1

The note of myrrh is what makes this scent a masterpiece, it is the missing piece in the puzzle sadly the new version (even though it is a good scent) lacks the depth and mystique that this version has.

9.5/10 own it now.

Andres777

I was lucky enough to find the 2012 version of this in my country. At first I was taken aback, I thought it was very sharp and stingy, unlike the type of scents I usually wear, very mature and masculine.

Now that I've been wearing it more, I love it more and more, specially the dry down, how it evolves and changes and its commanding presence.

It is a perfume that wont be liked by everyone and it has become one of the favorites of my collection.

PS: Loved Finisterle's review below

Finisterle

For philosophers just as much as Fahrenheit is.

But whereas Fahrenheit is a muse for the aspects of nature; more precisely: weather, Dior EDP is a spiritual muse.

The name of the brand is Christian Dior and this is a christian perfume. Its real name should be Christos by Dior.

The trinity of the drydown goes from bergamottian innocent and happy youth to brooding middle and old age in the myrrh and ends in a mild, end of the journey smiling vetiverian promise of rebirth.

Dior EDP is something Abbot Suger would wear. And the bottle light diffraction and color resonance comes fairly close to the spiritually evocative vibration aspired to by the gothic church window - a softly sparkling pool of lux divina.

This is not for brutes or children.

This was one of the first fragrances I ever purchased back in 2014. and since then and after collecting more than 200 bottles of niche, designers and whatnot. This remains in my top 5 fragrances for life. the elegance of the bergamot combined with myrrh is far from being compared with anything else. What a masterpiece indeed. the 2017 re-make is disappointing though.

Whulum

At first I didnt like this one because it smelled quite designer sharp in the opening but upon second spray i can respect this one. Now I think it has a good opening, but the problem is that openings were never made to last. As you can probably guess, i'm not so convinced about the dry down. Too sweet in a basic way as I dont really feel that much character in the base note. But that does not stop me from appreciating its elegance. It is a bit too old and sophisticated though. Not old per se, but im only 21 and im not feeling i could pull this off.

AMajeedQT

Clean woody citrus.

Minimalistic scent. Bitter, woody myrrh, & soft, green vetiver combine with a simple citrus accord to creat this classic smell. Clean & babershopy to an extent.

Mature, year-round wear.

The opening smells exactly like Fusafungine (Bioparox) that is an antibiotics spray for throat infection. Not sure what did the perfumer had in mind, but it is hideous and straight up disgusting. Fortunately the opening is gone in about 4-5 minutes, but the medicinal smell is still in the background. The citrus and myrrh is not bad, but the extremely bitter bioparox smell ruined it for me.

sdbhfrag

One of the best. Amazing structure to this fragrance yet simple in its note breakdown. Just recently smelled a 2nd edition of Versace L'homme and the dry drowns are very similar to my nose. Very masculine and inviting. Leans more mature, but young old souls could definitely pull this one off!

Viktorija_Stockholm

It gives me an old school vibe, but in a good way. I knew a young man who wore it and it fitted his personality. It definitely has to fit your essence as it is quite noticeable perfume. It’s a good fragrance if on a right person.

Borzoi

A beautiful composition consisting mostly of three notes; a top note of bergamot, heart note of myrrh resin, and a base note of vetiver. Together it forms a dense, warm, and smooth balsamic scent that is perfect for when the weather gets a bit colder.
In my opinion, the 2017 version is closer to the original Eau Sauvage and a lot more versatile, but this one is a lot more beautiful. A masterpiece that I will always try to have a bottle of even though they are now difficult to find.

Blowfishes

I have a late 2014 tester bottle which I absolutely adore. Having 50ml remaining of the original 100ml, I decided to seek out a backup bottle. I have tried bottles from 2015 and 2016, and have been utterly disappointed with the longevity and overall depth of the fragrance. I'm unsure if I have simply been unlucky with the three bottles I have tried, or if the company (or IFRA) decided that a reformulation was required. Is this possibly why the fragrance was re-released in 2017?

Aim for an earlier bottle if you can - my tester has 'DEMONSTRATION' embossed on the rear black band, and not etched into the glass on the base. The batch code of my bottle is '4Z01'.

ION

If you (like me) have a 'love and hate' relationship with vetiver (more love than hate I would say) this, in my opinion, is the best you can try.
Unfortunately it has been discontinued and replaced by the 2017 version so the real question ultimately, is whether both versions are equally good and what the main differences are between them.

"Eau Sauvage Parfum" is a more rustic, deep, rich and sweet perfume when compared to the 2017 version, due to the emphasis of its composition on myrrh. It is also easier on the nose.
But, is it better? In my opinion, it is not!
I find it more tedious for everyday use, less versatile and not as refined as the 2017 edition that is currently available on the market.
Also, even though both have excellent longevity and projection, I find the newer "Eau Sauvage Parfum 2017" even better in this respect!

Additionally, the bottle is meticulously made and the whole experience of using the perfume is that of fine quality, so congratulations to Dior for the attention it pays to every detail.

For more analysis on the composition of the perfume look for my review on "Eau Sauvage Parfum 2017" which I love more, not that this one here isn't (or rather wasn't) already good enough!

Ok.. Here it goes.. My experience with Parfum

I was super excited with all the hype this was creating and after 15 videos on YouTube I fell into the trap. I bought this with so much of expectation only to fall flat on my face.

Please don't get me wrong this is an amazing perfume, but it lasts like for an hour and then fades almost immediately. After 2 hours it's like you are not wearing anything, not even if you put your nose to the skin! So please check if it works for you before buying

Rating: 5/10 (due to longevity)

nightcrawler12101995

8/10- Oldschool spicy citrus.

Citrus with fresh balsamic backbone and patchouli base.
It smells close to the newer formulation which was made in 2017, and of the two I prefer the newer formulation. The newer formulation just smells a bit modern and more wearable for the younger crowd.

To be honest, both formulations are equally good, everything comes down to personal preference.

Neoclassic Beauty (Francois Demachy, 2012)

Scentrack: Andy Williams – Wives and Lovers

I’m not a fan of classic Dior’s Eau Sauvage, but with Eau Sauvage Parfum is totally another story.
Allegedly composed of three notes only, but I can sense some layers underneath. Eau Sauvage opens with a bitter and remarkable note of bergamot. It’s very natural, potent long lasting, and not as synthetic as felt in latter Dior Sauvage. The bergamot is immediately followed by dry and mildly sweet miro resin, so masterfully executed, and pale flowers of osmanthus. I can sense some whiffs of curry, due to the possible use of immortelle like in Eau Noire. The base is consisted of slightly smoky and green vetiver notes. Classic, barbershop mature and unpretentious. Fresh like a cologne, and substantial like a cold weather fragrance at the same time. It even has got some Shalimar-like nuances. A lovely addition to the Dior’s line up, and easily could fit in their Privee line. The Mediterranean meets Oriental resins in a classic, but chic manner. This is Alain Delon in a bottle.

Rating: 9.5/10

I absolutely love the EDT and cologne versions. This is enjoyable...but falls short for me vs. others.

Personally, I get myrrh and lavender. It is pleasant but definitely myrrh heavy. I enjoy the myrrh DNA more so in Jo Malone Myrhh & Tonka.

Longevity and performance are improved and above average. Versatility is not as good as EDT. This is certainly fall and winter...maybe spring. For me, EDT is year round.

I do enjoy this to change things up, but it doesn’t win out over the EDT. Get a sample as always to check it out, but I recommend the EDT over this all day every day.

Unmodernize

Classic to me. Smells good. But I think it was cooler preformulation.

Green02

Dior Eau Sauvage (2012) is a very special fragrance. To describe it, a gorgeous fragrance created with only three notes, bergamot, Vetiver and Myrr. It is mature, heavy-headed and noble with its scent, color and old-fashioned stylish bottle. Special time perfume, more suitable for men of a certain age.

This, Dior homme parfum and Mancera red tobacco is all you need in the winter!
Gorgeous fragrance, deep, dark and rich. Very masculine scent. Love it!

Robinfv

Absolutely gorgeous. Heavy, sophisticated leathery woody scent. I don't get any resemblance with the original Eau Sauvage, although there are probably more similarities than I can detect. This is truly for the older gentleman crowd, nighttime in winter. Not for the office, or for casual wear, this is for the special occasions. Got many compliments. It's a sure keeper for the next winters.

adamn2020

Amazing Fragrance! I have now owned my bottle for about a week and it has literally exceeded all expectations. Longevity is amazing. Projection is amazing. And the scent will evolve as the day goes on. Pure class is all I got to say. You can tell from the nozzle that this is a well crafted scent.

I would give this a 9.5 out of 10.

The only reason I don’t give this a 10 is because I don’t think this can be worn in warm weather but other than that, this is one heck a fragrance.

My bottle is the one with the all black label that surrounds the bottle.

yasser.bouaichi

Very high quality fragrance! Very rich, dark and distinguished. it testifies to the quality of this line.
The opening of bergamot followed by a dry woody note combined perfectly with the deep and resinous note of myrrh, give this fragrance a unique alluring that i've never smelled before.
Only for the people who know how to be classy. Masterpiece!

alanwake

Excellent opening, phenomenal dry down. It gets a bit sweet for my liking, but that does not stop me from appreciating its elegance. Simply a masterpiece. The latest version is watered down, synthetic, and has lost all its density. A perfect example of reformulations.

Larrythe1st

I have found an old tester(2012) in the airport and sprayed it next to the new one(2017) , well I asked if I could buy the old one and they said it’s the same juice, so I left laughing at them, anyways the 2017 version was thinner and more synthetic base, not bad but not great , I wish could find the old one ,that myrrh note is to die for !

kulabutr

This is just the greatest from my collection!!

tobassam

I eventually smelled this perfume and it was absolutely not what I expected from the hype and the 2017 formulation.
Just so you know, I'm middle-eastern and used to appreciating skanky Oud, but the medicinal herbal-like notes here were completely off-putting to me.
I'll make this easy for you to visualize. Go and smell Gucci Guilty Absolute Pour Homme, the medicinal leather note there has the same vibe as this. If you appreciate that one and can wear it, then you may by chance like this one as well. Both for me are non-wearable, even though I suspect in the air they might come off as classy, but I pay money for my OWN enjoyment FIRST! But that's just me.
For the record, I do enjoy the 2017 version a lot and I think it's a completely different fragrance from this one. I have both sprayed on my wrist and to me there is no comparison at all.

Vacano

A masterpiece of perfumery....a masculine classic.

njcooper5

Perhaps my favorite fragrance in my collection of around 80 fragrances. It’s perfect. I hope my bottle never runs out. Love.

Happy Turtle

One of the most masculine fragrances I've ever smelt. This is something James Bond or a similar character would wear.

Su8072

My oh my. This is everything you will ever need right here. Gorgeous.

This makes me feel like millionaire. Skip it for summer its just too much but cool spring/autumn/winter is where it thrives.

Not a young man's perfume but this is the gold standard i compare most of these over hyped 'beast mode' fragrances to. Lasts on me easily 10/11 hours with 3 - yes 3 sprays. Going heavy on this will announce you to the next county.

Makes me feel presumably like green Irish tweed makes the creed crowd feel. Like I'm walking my rich ass across a golf course, in nice weather thats not scorching hot.

It's more of a dressed up vibe but when i spray this the citrus in it blows me away. So bright, so juicy. The myhrr in the dry down is the reason going heavy is a bad idea you can almost smell like a church candle.

If you like this type of scent but want to have a few variants for different occasions I would recommend lalique pour homme and creed bois du portugal. This would have you covered in spring, autumn and winter for most situations and cover day/night/formal/casual use.

If you want a scent that is class all the way its this one.

Love it

When I smell this, I feel like being put in a seasonless time and place. Just like waking in a shaded and sleety early morning, rising with ravens, blowing filterless cigarette smoke over a foggy uncut field. Then noon comes softly with a suffering hunger for some clear hours, somekinda heat approaching, a powerful sun standing close. Later, a skyless evening awaiting no sunset. Total darkness playing games with shiny intervals, a black night gemmed with heaps of stars, some forever dead and some still unborn.

Alfredo021

Why anyone would buy Sauvage or Fahrenheit over this is beyond me. To my nose this smells much better than the former two. The scent is at least 9/10 in my opinion. Another plus is, that I feel like this scent isn't talked about as much as Sauvage and Fahrenheit, so it stands out more, because less people wear it.

Registeralloveragain

Very pronounced petitgrain note. With the creamy glistening waxy myrrh

smellthisgood

Crisp citrus freshness with a generous shot of hedione which adds a jasmine like note and evolves into a radiant smoothness that just smells good and never dated. Possibly the benchmark for citrus based colognes that came after. Some of my bottles are from the 80s as this was my signature scent in college. Will always have in my collection.

MichelMontaigne

This one keeps me questioning myself “why do I keep buying fragrances” this is it, this is all I need, but a fragrance like this one makes me curious if I can find another one on the same level so I keep buying fragrances and so far after having more than 100 fragrances, this still is in my top 5 for life.

Have the 2017 version (which I love) and just got this 2011 version to compare. Wearing them on each of my arms and they are very similar but have distinct differences.

2017 is lighter and more balsamic. 2011 is denser, rounder, bit less balsamic, more myrrh, and deeper.

2017 is more versatile, 2011 is better in cooler weather and nights. I prefer the 2011 and glad I have this, but I'll be ok wearing the 2017 regularly and saving the discontinued 2011 for when I can appreciate it more.

Scent: 9.5, Longevity: 8.5, Projection: 7.5, Overall: 9.5

dejansat

This is very similar to Denim Original, albeit more refined, natural and sophisticated. Olibanum (in Denim) replaced by myrrh.

robertgrey

Elegant fragrance for a cool night. Smoky and citrus in the opening. A little sweet in the dry down.

Longevity: 8 hours++
Great projection.

Ruchess

I have a bottle vintage Eau Sauvage from the 70's and this is not it if that's what you're looking for. This is richer and more elegant fragrance maybe a bit more feminine but not too much, any confident guy could pull this off. This is very classy with great performance which is what the EDT was/is lacking. I initial thought was this fragrance is best suited for an event where you are wearing a suit, maybe a wedding, but honestly it can be worn in any wardrobe, summer or winter, day or night. That is the brilliance of Eau Sauvage. It is a masterpiece suitable for anytime anywhere. If you are looking for an EDP closer to the original version, the 2017 formulation is a closer representation of the 1960's fragrance in opening but within an hour the 2011 and 2017 versions are very close and the 2012 version performs better in longevity.

EDIT: I've been wearing this for about 2 weeks straight. People say you can't wear this in hot weather because it is a beast but I disagree. This is a solid fragrance that should be worn year around. It may be better for a more distinguished (40+) age group but younger men should evaluate it for themselves because it rocks. Dior nailed this!

Registeralloveragain

Best blind buy Ive ever done. I got the 2012. Wow this is way better than I even expected. The smell Makes me think of Las Vegas at night. Sweet smells with some cigar smoke too. It is a brilliant mix of resinous but slightly sweetened almost gourmand-y Smokey, bitter, dark, but also a bit orange blossom too, energetic, magic. I swear I get a deep narcotic orange blossom in there and a slight vanilla note. But it is mostly Smokey bergamot which is so interesting.
Another fragrance that has given me this imagery in my mind is creed erolfa. Very Different scents but there is a vibe that they share. And this one is better

Bottledbull

I much prefer the 2017 formulation , best use of elemi in perfumery I've come across

intuit

Rich, dense and resinous. Very pleasing to my nose; I can't stop sniffing it! I wouldn't say this is close to the original Eau Sauvage as the citrus takes a back seat here. This is all about the myrrh.

I see this as more of a reserved, but confident gentleman's scent. Wear this in a professional setting, not in a casual social gathering or date.

Katt1982

Heavy enough to wear in winter/fall/evening, yet crisp, airy and green-enough to wear during spring and summer. I love this fragrance, though I think it's too potent to wear to the office.

Projects really well - I get whiffs of it even after wearing it for over a year. Sillage good (8.5). The smell reminds me of freshly-cut grass (8.0).

This perfume is for the mature gentleman (not for under 30s) in a suit, not for a college student in jeans, t-shirt and sneakers. Overall, I rate it 8.25.

Daddy D

I don’t live near big malls with stores that carry a lot of fragrances but had always noticed the positive reviews for this one. While in Denver on vacation I got a sample from Sephora and understood the hype. I loved it and finally purchased my first bottle that arrived last night. I own several fragrances but I know when I first spray a new bottle if it really grabs my attention and this one did just that! It even smelled better to me than my sample. It projects and last a good 10 hrs on my skin. I’d consider it having a barbershop vibe, maybe because of the lavender and Vetiver. I love this fragrance and will always have a bottle within arms reach. Great smelling sauce!

Skywarp

Such a shame that they discontinued this. This is a masterpiece that lasts. Allthough the 2017 formulation is ok, it turns into something cheap and sweet after 2 hours. While this 2012 release keeps it's charm through the entire ride.

romanygerges

Dior could have put this in "Maison Dior Line of fragrances" (Previously known as privee line) and this could have been the top seller among all the line. sometimes when the fragrance is cheaper and available we undermine it. but this one is pure craftsmanship along with Dior Homme Parfum is also Privee line worthy, not only worthy but would be even top sellers.

sproaty

@FragMaster - It's already been discontinued! Prices are going up and up on it.
My opinion of this has changed over time, I don't think it's amazing. In fact I prefer the reformulated 2017 which is stronger and fresher, in theory I should like this one more but there's something to the 2017 that works better for me.
I'd rate it 7.5-8/10

FragMaster

Have to agree with Muhammed1 in that this is 35+ age range fragrance. I am looking forward to owning this in a few years, so I hope it doesn't get discontinued

richmilton

Eau Sauvage Parfum will someday be sought after like no other fragrance in Dior's history. That's my prediction. Get a bottle if you can. In 10 years send me a thank you letter.

Notes about this Masterpiece:

1. Ahead of it's time. It's like a futuristic scent released in 2030,
2. Combination of masculine and freshness... very rare nowadays
3. 100% a male scent. (Sorry ladies). This should be named #MGTOW
4. Combines the legend vibe of Eau Sauvage with added masculinity
5. Unapologetic scent. Even a little weird. But undeniably unforgettable.

LEGEND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

howardken52

I wanted to love this one. Starts off nicely with a great burst of old school citrus. Nice and creamy. Became cloying for me after an hour or so. Very powdery. I returned it.

Jay67

There’s not much more I can say about this that hasn’t already been said here but I’ll throw in my penny’s-worth: Eau Sauvage Parfum (2012) is a work of utter GENIUS!! As has been noted before; how can such an incredible fragrance be devised and blended from so few elements? It is quite unique and I’m sure a lot of people will be put off by its intensity and the myrrh note certainly won’t be for everyone but if you’re looking for a distinctive fragrance for evening wear, then you could do a lot worse. The deep green colour of the original in the classic Eau Sauvage bottle style and black labelling is a joy too: it looks so opulent!

I personally prefer the 2012 version over the 2017 re-issue/re-blend but I can’t say that the difference is that drastic to totally slate the newer version but given the option, I’d go for the original every time. Disturbingly, I’ve noticed some of the perfume chain stores in London still using the 2012 version as the tester, whilst selling the 2017 version on the shelves, which is out of order. I’ve said it to them when I’ve seen it but just get blank looks!

Definitely a fragrance for the more mature gent, 35+ that will get you noticed. I’ve had a lot of compliments with this one but also the odd ‘that’s unusual’ comments too. If you can find this original version at a half decent price then definitely grab it as it’s becoming quite scarce now but if you’ve never gotten your nose on it then try the newer version to give you an approximation of the original.

I’ve never understood why ESP was put out as a flanker to the original Eau Sauvage and I could also say the same for Eau Sauvage Extreme before that too but they are all great fragrances in their own right, while bearing no discernible similarity to each other. Just accept and enjoy them on their own individual merits and you won’t go far wrong!

zesty_calco

It's very interesting how our opinions change on fragrance. I owned a bottle of this when I was first getting into the hobby and after a year or two sold it keeping a decent sized decant. It's a little too stuffy and mature for me. I imagine someone in their late thirties or older wearing this. The notes smell high quality and the performance is beastly but something here is sharp and headache inducing for me now. Vetiver was a note I used to really enjoy but now I don't care for many that I smell. Maybe that's what is happening here? Maybe my decant has aged, degraded a little? I know I used to like it a lot. Did my nose change or mature? In any case this is a great offering from Dior. High quality notes, excellent performance, handsome bottle and a conceptually cool spin on the classic Eau Sauvage. Worth a sniff at least!

phongbach

I was in love with the Eau Sauvage and didn't think twice before ordering this. I should have done my research because they are so different from each other. Unfortunately, I don't like myrrh at all. Mass appeal? I don't think so. Maybe it does smell good from a far but I can't stand wearing this.

wisconsinboy

it's given me compliments, which is probably due to the sillage and longevity ("i'm so thankful you smell good", the nurse said). the myrrh is just heavenly, but i'm a myrrh fan. if you are disgusted by myrrh (which is sacrilegious in my fragrance taste), than it probably won't be for you. also, if you are perturbed or disgusted by iso-e-super, it probably won't be for you. iso-e isn't listed in the ingredients, but based upon my experience with "encre noire", it's there all right. a peppery woody nuance, to put it lightly...a synthetic nightmare if you hate it.

apineneedle

Flawless masterpiece. One of the finest modern gentleman scents I've ever come across. Deep woody resinous sweetness that is impeccably blended. The refreshing bergamot opening and inviting myrrh drydown make wearing this an experience from start to finish. I save this one for special occasions. If you want to exude class, this is a good option. Best suited for cool/cold weather. Pay this scent respect and dress up when you wear it!

10/10

Zerofreeze

I love this for any daytime use regardless of temperature. With only three notes, Dior gives you a progression of citrusy sweetness to an earthy, creamy drydown that is heavenly. It projects well and you should get plenty of whiffs of it throughout it's life.

HorlicksB4Bed

How the hell has this masterpiece been created using only 3 notes!
Phenomenal.

12345

Dirty, resinous, smooth.

WhaleFingers

Way different than what I expected. I understand why the EDT/EDP version's of Sauvage smell the way they do through the original. It's a gentleman's way of carrying a green scent, that doesn't have a ton of complexity to it, but let's you know it's there, and inviting.

Versatile with its usage i.e. office, casual, formal, etc. Wouldn't be a special date night fragrance, though it could work. Has a GiT vibe, not scent profile, but the way it moves, feels, and reacts. I feel this one, and would pick up a full bottle, if a close friend didn't wear it. Can't break that line. Worth a check!

dejansat

This is one of my all-time favorite scents. Masculine, long-lasting, yet not cloying. In some ways, it reminds me of Denim Original, but a much more refined, sophisticated version of it.

LYON ESTATES

If you like old school, super masculine, yet refined and classic citrus scents, you may love this as I do!

I started with the Eau De Toilette which is a nice scent but not worth it IMO bc it only lasts an hour on me.

The Parfum lasts way longer, and has some more depth in the notes, so I def recommend it.

js71

This is a 10/10 fragrance for me, scents like this are a rarity , the myrr is absolutely gorgeous and lasts forever, the moment i spray this on it makes me feel special and brings out that magical feeling when you smell something really special. I suppose its really for cold evenings but someone brave enough could carry it off at other times, I mostly wear it at home for my own pleasure enjoying whafts of it for hours. The same kind of thing as pour monsieur edp which is also an absolute gem, if you like that you will love this one.The 2017 is very good but this to me is a bit more natural and dense.

jays786

hi have bottle to sell 99% full 100ml with box from 2015 if you are from west london uk area then pm me thanks.

thom888thom

When I first smelt this on paper side by side with the 2017 version, I didn't notice much difference (I've had the 2017 version for months). I thought people are exaggerating how good this is. But when I actually applied this on my skin, oh my goodness. This is at another level. The opening is much more sophisticated, it doesn't pierce your nose compared to the 2017 version. The 2017 version smells too citrusy, too synthetic. But this one, you can smell the myrrh, vetiver. So much classier. I'm very outraged now that Dior decided to discontinue this.

dsyben

Love it! Just got a 2/3 full 200ml bottle off eBay for a steal and was surprised to find it was a 2014 production date. The 2017 is not bad, but this is better in smell and performance.

Morgoth01

This is the best release of the Eau Sauvage line ever but sadly discontinued now..

fragrancemastiff

I simply love this fragrance. Bottle is very classy and the deep olive colour juice is also very attractive.

Opening is deep and citrusy and smells complex and 'expensive'. Within an hour it transitions into dark, authoritative minty admixture of vetiver and myrrh. This drydown was somewhat surprising at first and initially I found it offputting. I now love this. I think it is one of those acquired taste type fragrances, to an extent. It is definitely rubbery and somehow reminds me of fahrenheit a bit, but with more complexity with a hint of 'dark' freshness.

I think it would be suitable for most situations excpet very hot weather. I don't think it smells old at all and young men in ther 20's should have no problem but it might smell a bit weird on a teenager. Overall, an artistic fragrance.

I am curious to try the 2017 version and the edt as well.

Eau Sauvage Parfum has an amazing dark bottle with magnetic cap and a lovely dark green color. Opens with a very strong, dark and smoky citric scent. Later the note that is the most prominent is the myrrh. One of the best Vetiver based fragrance on the market. The more you wear it, the more you love it. It has the best longevity and sillage among Vetiver based fragrances I have ever tried.

I went to Sephora in Champs Elysees Paris back in October 2012. ESP was on the shelves. As a lover of 1966 Eau Sauvage I had to try it, which I did. Even though ESP smells different, I fell in love with it and bought 6 bottles of 2012 batch which I still keep. As a matter of fact, my first bottle is not finished yet. When I knew about the 2017 reformulation I just thought how lucky I am.

diego.baratella

This is with no doubt one of the most masculine fragrance on the market: it still rocks in 2018!. Perfect for a self confident man that want to be recognised. Wonderful worn in the office

ae8za

This smells masculine and classy. Performance is quite beastly and last 8 hours on my skin even in hot weather from my 2012 bottle. One of the best release by Dior.

I just stumbled into a Sephora in the midwestern U.S., and to my surprise found a single dusty sealed 100ml bottle of this classic (2015 batch). I'm feeling pretty happy right about now.
Great performance, yet not quite as beastly as some have mentioned. It's a little loud at first but calms down very quickly on my skin. My wife digs Eau Sauvage Parfum and swears she smells cinnamon in it. While it does seem to have an ethereal touch of spiciness, I don't really smell anything like cinnamon. Lots and lots and lots of myrrh. I've kind of decided that myrrh is one of my favorite notes, so this is a big-time winner for me. This is simultaneously classic and stylish. A well-groomed nicely dressed man could wear this in any situation, season, or time of day provided it is not oversprayed. It approaches "must have" masterpiece territory, and is blind buy safe for semi-professional 30+ men.
If you can't be troubled to track down or pay $100+ for an older bottle, Prada's Amber Pour Homme Intense has a VERY similar vibe with a high dose of myrrh, albeit with patchouli and vanilla, for a lower price online. They are in the same general neighborhood.

Ky1227

This perfume is dark, dense, and bold. Meant for someone with very specific taste so it won’t be for everyone. I get some beautiful green notes with a resinous amber-like myrrh,

While I get an amber vibe from the base, it never actually feels sweet due to the green notes up top. This is a mostly linear scent but the notes always remain present and distinct which, to me, screams high quality.

The fragrance is meant for someone who wears what he likes and doesn’t need other folks to tell him what he should wear. I wouldn’t call this daring, but its certainly not going to be a mass pleasing scent. It has an old school vibe without being animaliic or smelling dated. This is a modern and mature masterpiece.

Performance is very impressive with well over 8 hours longevity and a nice, but not too strong, projection throughout the entire duration.

Sad to see this one go, but I will always cherish having it in my wardrobe.

Without a doubt in my mind, this earns a 10/10.

istvan.buda.779

Oh wow, I just got the last batch of the vintage formulation !!

SammyA

I just got a new 100ml bottle of this 2012 vintage (discontinued) juice. Longevity is amazing and the sweet warm base notes are heavenly done.

This man is a rock, he's alluring but kind, his smile is as bright as sunny bergamot, but his voice is as deep as the Myrrh coming out of his chest. He is strong and hypnotizing, a leader, cannot be led, you can only go to him. you can only obey and you like it because you are under his spell. this man is wearing this perfume.

maxpowerboston

It's a classy, old man-ish scent. Citrus and vetiver really dominate for me. Very smooth but probably best fits an older business type. Not lots of versatility - fits a sport coat/suit and tie look best. I consider it more of a daytime scent. Isn't really seductive or date appropriate.

Lasts 10-12 hours on me. Insane monster longevity. Good projection for 6+ hours, too.

7.75/10 for me. Worth getting a sample if you can. Not full bottle worthy for me, as it is limited in use, but I'm glad I have a 10ml decant.

Tayyabshahbaz

Elegant, classy and indulgence are three words to describe this everlasting masterpiece. It took me 4 months to write my review about this because it has such a depth which cannot be explained in words, one must need to go through the alluring olfactory journey with this. With only three notes listed here it seems impossible to create such a master piece, but here we have created by Francois Demachy. hands down. too bad it is discontinued, yes it seems not be appreciated by general underdeveloped noses out there but the Dior should had to consider the fragrance enthusiasts like us who always appreciate such creations and want to purchase it again and again, another terrible loss of such a brilliant frag.

so much associations, one can have with this fragrance. it is classy, can remind you the golden age of perfumery i.e 80's or 90's. but not at all an outdated perfume at all. yes it is more suited to a mature person having a CEO type personality.

Starts off by the conventional blast of Bergamot but not at all generic because of the depth of other ingredients behind it. after 10 to 20 minutes the main theme of perfume starting to come up i.e the note of Myrrh with Vetiver in the background. this is the most enjoyable part of this fragrance.you will have the decreasing effect of Bergamot locked with Myrrh which will be giving sweetness to this frag but at the same time the Vetiver will be fighting for its dark and rich trail, result is a stunning elegant fragrance very hard to describe here in words. As time goes the bergamot is the first note to disappear then Vetiver, in the end you will have incensy sweetness of Myrrh which can last upto several days on your clothes.

Got my first ever bottle of this today the 2017 version, and WOW stunning. Such a warm, luxurious, creamy and aristocratic scent. As they say, less is more and the ingredients in this are blended to perfection and totally fanstatic!

jackwins

I am soooo glad I bought 2 bottles of the vintage. It is such a gorgeous smell. I would have never thought resins and citrus would make such a beautiful product. The scent is very natural smelling, no synthetics. Whenever I wear this my confidence boosts up 50% :-)

I can only speak for the vintage:
The scent is a 10/10
Longevity is a 10/10
Projection is a 10/10

If you can find a vintage bottle for a decent price, get it!!! (before I do)

Using this for a couple of years now, this one is just a masterpiece. The best part is that it is not very well known comparing to the top selling fragrances.

Eau Sauvage Parfum is a true classic, very rich and well balanced aroma.

The myrh is the star of this perfume, it shines in every way, it is a warm and kind of sweet myrh.

It´s use is more proper in the fall and winter days, because it will warm you and confort you in the cold weather, it could be wearable casual, but with a formal dressing it will be perfect.

The performance of this is proper for a real EDP, I tested to check it, and longevity in my skin more than 24 hours and half arm my wife still smell it on me with a good sillage. And it is not normal for me the fragrances go up more than 8 hours, so this is a really BMGS- Beast Mode Good Smelling.

This was discontinued and it was not sold in many perfumary, only very few had it, so it is very hard to find this fragrance and the prices will go up for a bottle in places that sell online.

Classical masculine masterpiece.

Strong Aromatic bergamot / vetiver with inscense background with superb quality and performance.

One of the best bergamot based fragrances in the designers category.

Note: since eau sauvage parfume is hardly discounted, if you want to get similar vibe "although different", try guerlain vetiver extreme. Its citrus/ vetiver/ inscense combo is close and guerlain can be found heavily discounted plus it has amazing quality.

Q-Scents

This is truly an awesome fragrance; I am not sure if it is a "panty dropper" per se. However, it does garner attention from the opposite sex. Is there really a fragrance that is truly a panty dropper, I doubt it! The fragrance wearer determines that by his or her demeanor/body language, etc. Just know if you are wearing this fragrance...you will get noticed for all the right reasons.

Enjoy!

Absolutely gorgeous and distinct. I tried the new 2017 version yesterday, and it is a very different thing altogether. This version is greenish in the bottle, the 2017 version is quite yellow.

As I only have a single 50 ml bottle, I'm looking to get a backup but so far without luck. Anyone (EU) got a sealed one left, please drop me a line.

CHRISTIAN DIOR EAU SAUVAGE PARFUM (2012)
Definitely a gentlemen's fragrance......

Very masculine and self-assured. Like a man who is successful, but doesn't boast about it.

Don't let the name fool you, as this flanker is completely different from the original classic. It has very little in common with original Eau Sauvage EDT and absolutely nothing in common with Eau Sauvage Extreme (the latest one, Intense).

Simple notes, great scent! Sweet and light citrus with a mild vetiver. The myrrh is a perfect note to add in this gem. It's strong in the beginning but then leaves a very luxurious smell lingering...

I don't see this as a formal scent but a casual class, maybe a nice sweater and jeans. Slightly elegant but in a down to earth kind of way. I've gotten numerous compliments on this fragrance from both sexes.
Age wise, I imagine it will work best on a mature 30 and up, but don't let that limit you--it's just a reference.

Projection is excellent and longevity is very good (10+ hrs),with great sillage. Be careful not to go too heavy on the trigger.

If you want a timeless elegant parfum, I would strongly recommend Eau Sauvage parfum (2012) by the House of Dior.

LordCharfield

I tried the 2012 version in a shop a year back, and loved it. I always intended to buy it, but never got around to it due to financial constraints.
Fast forward to today. I had some cash for my birthday, so I found a local chemist who still had the 2012 version. Incredibly, they said that the Dior rep told them that the 2017 version was just the same, but new packaging! I put them straight.
So I bagged a 100ml bottle for £69.20, and got a 50ml 2017 version also.
I’ll give a more extensive review at some point when I get time, but 3 1/2 hours in, although the 2012 is slightly deeper and richer, the 2017 version is still fantastic and I think I might prefer it.
This could become my signature scent.

Update. Both remain on skin for 24 hours. After about 6 hours, the 2017 version becomes “blurred” and nondescript next to the 2012 version where the notes remain in sharp focus and with more depth. The difference between watching a film recorded on an old video, and watching a blue ray disc on an HD television.
Having tested this over the past 6 days, I’m mystified as to why Dior reformulated this. The 2012 has been replaced by a 70% clone. I’m not sure that I’ll bother getting it again. For the price, there’s a lot better out there!
I can only assume that money was the motivating factor with Dior.
They should have increased the price rather than wreck a fragrance.
If anyone from Dior is reading this, please consider making 2012 version again, rename it as intense or similar, then make a proper parfum version of Eau Savauge and market it as such.
Feb update. Just tried Chanel Pour Monsieur EDP. Very similar to these!

JanneMan45

Potent and dense stuff this 2012 version.

Sprayed it on 13 hours ago and now after a shower I can still smell it!

Great Dior,......such as Dior Homme Parfum

BurtReynolds

I held off on buying this before, but with my 30th birthday around the corner I felt the time is right. I was fortunate enough to find a bottle from 2013. This stuff is potent indeed. There is no need to over spray, have mercy on those around you.

Well blended, refined, smooth, classy. That's what this is. I wouldn't limit this to just 'special occasions', but I wouldn't wear it regularly either. Maybe that has more to do with wanting to conserve what I have though.

I haven't tried the newer 2017 version, but I can't imagine it being better than this. This is was perfect as it is.

MichelMontaigne

Deep, Dark, and sour Myrrh. before smelling it I thought, Bergamot and Myrrh that's interesting, But man, this is pure class and sophistication. very alluring in a very respectful way, not anyone can pull this off, needs a man with so high confidence.

Monkeys

This one was not love at first sniff at all. I revisited it later in my “journey” after finding out I enjoy myrrh more and more when well used. Like in the amazing Epic Man by Amouage or the visibly polarizing Tom Ford Noir EDP that are big favorite of mine. So I thought it was time for me to test this one again especially that vetiver is my favorite note ever. And this time the magic occurred.

Eau Sauvage Parfum exploits most of the attributes and possibilities of myrrh: Its rather oily, lightly smoky, quite rubbery, dark and creamy “sweet-ish-ness”. This gives some depth to an otherwise simple fragrance. And for people who don’t enjoy vetiver as much as I do, the resin smooths it out and prevents it from being possibly too bitter, sharp, green or raw while those properties are still there, at different levels, helped by green citrus but without stealing the spotlight from the preeminent myrrh.

If unlike me you do believe in occasions for fragrances, this one I can say is a prime example of a formal, "suit & tie" and mature, while not dated, scent ... With very good quality in its ingredients!

It is really not like the classic Eau Sauvage. For that the newer version would bring you closer, which as a flanker is a good thing.I truly love this one now and I’ll probably grab another bottle before the original version is gone for good. Like Leonardo da Vinci allegedly said, simplicity CAN be the ultimate sophistication! It certainly applies to Eau Sauvage Parfum. Pure class.

Dudekai

Strange and beautiful. Rich, dense and a little daring. I've been surprised by the odd compliment from women. Surprised as it just isn't that kind of sweet bubble that usually attracts that kind of attention. My wife doesn't really care for it, but to be fair the only time she smelled it she had her nose too close to a sprayed area. Better when smelled from a distance. Manly as heck. Discontinued, so just tracked down a 100 ml back-up to ensure I have this around for a long time.

Luna_J

My bottle is 2015-16... It has aged a year now and more closely resembles what I first sampled in 2014 (the much-discussed 2012 batch): Dusty succulent bergamot, rich, enveloping myrrh, unguent, smoky vetiver (with lots of other notes playing supporting technical roles); endless, comforting drydown.

Ulriben

So odd that I wouldn't buy it, but so mesmerizing I always wanted to have a whiff. It will be dearly missed. Good bye.

The Fragrant Woods

Beautiful, dark, mysterious. Serious and regal, yet embracing. Very present and bold yet never screaming. One of a kind.

Dior, please re-release, maybe in the Privée line!

10/10 masterpiece

IpodHappy

If I had known the damage my wallet was going to suffer as a result of walking into the Sephora, I never would have entered. My goal for the day was to sniff both the 2017 version of Dior Eau Sauvage Parfum and Tom Ford’s Noir Anthracite. I sprayed two spritz of Anthracite under my neck and two spritz of what I thought was 2017 Eau Sauvage Parfum on my right hand. My forearms got two other colognes. Driving back in the car, I kept smelling a wonderful mélange of warm, spicy scents wafted toward me in the vented AC air. I had many other destinations that day and as the hours went, I was surprised by how long lasting both the Dior Eau Sauvage Parfum and Anthracite seemed to be. Their sillage was soft, but present, just the way I like it.

At home, I had my wife sniff both the Dior Eau and Anthracite. Surprisingly, she didn’t dislike either of them. By this time, the scents I had sprayed on my forearms were long got. I knew I really liked the combination of the Sauvage Parfum and Anthracite, but didn’t know exactly what was contributing to the overall olfactory experience. I was in love and decided I had to buy both the Anthracite and the Eau Sauvage Parfum the next day.

After the purchase, I looked closely at the Eau Sauvage Parfum bottle compared to the Fragrantica photograph and noticed the label was different on the bottle I purchased, silver letters on a black background vs. the 2017 version of black letters on a silver background. What? It turns out the 2017 version isn’t yet available in the US and I purchased the 2012 version with a lot number from 2012. Okay, I bought a discontinued 2012 version scent and really loved it. Of course, I had to purchase two more bottles, hence the wound to my wallet. One of those bottles is from a 2016 batch which is a bit darker with less opening citrus blast than the 2012 vintage.

In both vintages, the citrus at the beginning comes on moderately, then decays within the first thirty or forty minutes, leaving behind a warm effervescent myrrh. When combined with the cool dryness of Tom Ford’s Noir Anthracite, the warmth and sweetness of the myrrh gives a sweet and sour combination that’s too wonderful to be described.

pasha

"MAN."

100%, prime cut, top of the line "MAN".

The myrrh and vetiver combo in this is very intoxicating and ageless. So proudly masculine. Decadent and loud. But also intimate and elegant. What a man is ought to smell like, in the simplest of terms and so very few notes.

Has very little in common with Eau Sauvage, and thank heavens both the longevity and sillage of the Parfum are unforgiving and relentless. Wished it stayed on me forever. Your skin will warm the myrrh and you will experience a full journey of a note that will transform and transform for 6 hours straight. The vetiver note here is not particularly dry or fuzzy on the nose. Smells nothing like the vetiver in the beyond reproach Guerlain Vetiver. Quite smooth and refreshing here. Smart choice.

Great for the sheets and the streets. Every time I come back to him, he impresses me again and again.

A fine and handsome king among all of the aged and modern colognes.

Wonderful unique classy scent! Great performances and niche quality!

for me : 10/10 Masterpiece!

Carlitos

This is an extraordinary fragrance! Marvelous scent, classy, beast mode, smells quality all over.
Do I have it? - No!
I finished my last bottle 2 years ago (I used 4 in a row).
Why? Because I used it to much and begun to get bored of the strong citrus opening. But that's my fault!
You never tried it? Buy one bottle immediately, You don't know what you are missing.
Do I recommend a blind buy? Absolutely!

joerodeo92

Review of 2015 bottle: The truest example of "Less is more" that I've ever seen. How three notes do so much, I'll never understand. I am just happy this exists because it is wonderful. The warmth that engulfs my senses when I smell this is too good for words. Full bodied and cozy. Thick and a little smoky in the best way imaginable. I love the way the myrrh peeps through at the end only after the bergamot and vetiver have had their due time in the limelight. This hits your nose and goes down smooth. It definitely smells more expensive than it is and has the longevity of the energizer bunny in a coca field. Opulent and manly perfection.

Eau Sauvage Parfum reminds me of a mysterious gentleman of the night, who knows how to steal a woman's heart. It is a beautiful and amazing fragrance.

Longevity - 10/10(10+hours)

Age - 30+
Compliments - 8/10

Main notes according to me - myrrh, vetiver, bergamot.

The drydown is nice and i get some earthiness, creaminess and resins.

Emotions -class,elegant,refined,mysterious,seductive,sophisticated.

Occasion -perfect for special occasions, suit and formal events.

If you like vetiver, great for signature fragrance.
Eau Sauvage Parfum is in the middle of the road between a designer and niche fragrance.

Ant D'lev

It is an outstanding and marvelous perfume which has its own charme. Simplistic in terms of the composition - only three notes. Opens up with citrus (bergamot) growing over into myrrh and vetiver altogether. In dry down you've got a distinguishable dry and rich vetiver with a slight sweetness of myrrh. Definitively a must for someone who appreciates the vetiver scents. But also for those who aims for quality and niche in perfumes. To me it is comparable to many niche and unique fragrances but at a reasonable price. Not sure if it is stil being sold in the original state as I've heard it was discontinued or reformulated which is not the same.

Gordoso55

A solid fragrance for any collection. Versatile enough to be worn in any season day or night. Great value , great performance.

psychocandy

I have been having fun mixing this with CDG Incense Avignon for the ultimate incense bomb

erha69

I bought the 2016 manufactured bottle with magnetic cap. The smell is rather strong compare the original. The EDT is much fresher. I prefer to EDT (Original Eau Sauvage). However the dry down reminds me of Dior Homme.

FragranceForTwo

This fragrance brings the saying "less is more" to a whole new level.

It opens with this soft bergamot note and quickly dissipates to give entrance to this rich, thick and dense myrrh note. Imagine this slightly boozy, resinous and musky vanilla. That's how I would describe the myrrh in this fragrance and it is, by far, the most dominant note through all the scent's life. Just when it becomes a skin scent you can detect the vetiver note.

The performance on my skin is beastly! More than 9h of longevity with 2h of solid projection.

Eau Sauvage Parfum is dark, mature, daring, elegant and sexy. It is a high quality niche scent in a designer label.

In one word: Masterpiece!

checker79

One of the best scents ever created. You feel like James Bond wearing this one. So powerful, classy, and will get you compliments . I've stocked up on the 2012 verison since it's been discontinued. The reformulation smells quite similar to the 2012 Version but has more citrus at the top and is more versatile. I love both versions but this the one to wear at night due to its beast mode longevity and sillage.

corvin

This is finaly first fragrance in my collection that I can call beast. I never had such a potent fragrance. Performance is above perfection. It smells very luxorious, complex and expensive. I have to wait till the end of the summer. Then this will be my all ocassion, day/night, casual/formal scent.

Scent: 9/10
Performance: 10/10
Versatility: 8/10 (although people see it as formal, suit and tie fragrance, for me it is ok for any ocassion. It just goes well with my style)

Masterpiece.

joenick68

I was expecting for this one to be closer to the original vintage version, but it has only a hint of what the original was.
I have not received any comment nor compliment from it in this first time wearing it, so I wonder if the sillage is kinda short.
I need to give it more tries, that for sure, but so far it stay in my like list only.

Sailor11

good value, heavy sillage, long lasting, masculine, a must have, not the same scent as the edt
Citrus with woody notes at the get go with a amber-scented myrrh note that creeps in and builds up in presence as time passes. A very manly scent.
Eau Sauvage Parfum is a completely different smelling cologne than the EDT (not the same ingredients) and is better smelling as far as I am concerned. This is a strong scented EDP that would be best worn during Fall and Winter.
Sillage is heavy. People six feet away will smell this cloud around you. That being said, I honestly do not believe this would be a good scent to wear at the office, Don't be "that cologne guy" at work. One spray is all you will need.
If the sillage wasn't so large, I would bathe in this. It's that good!
10/10

Dark & Mysterious...

I find this one an instant hit with people who love interesting perfumes. This just goes to show that time and time again that the house of Dior under Demachy can produce outstanding work - on par with niche. In fact, Eau Sauvage Parfum feels like a niche fragrance. I think that the notes of bergamot, vetiver & myrrh are slightly misleading and simplistic, there is still a trace of the Hedione molecule which is the DNA backbone of the Eau Sauvage line (a synthetic jasmine and bright lemon combination).

Again, this fragrance provides excellent quality for money in my opinion. I find it remarkable in that respect, and in my experience has also given me compliments! I can't really fault it for anything, except perhaps to say that it can be a little heavy if over-applied. I would definitely recommend this not for people still getting into perfume but for men and women out there who have an experienced nose in perfumes. A great sophisticated fragrance for a man and an intriguing one for a woman. There's definitely something dark and mysterious with this one. Reminds me of a man wearing a velvet tuxedo. Mysterious, in control, and with a hint of danger and sexiness. Very very good. An instant hit with perfume-heads and worth well beyond the asking price.

psychocandy

Been wearing this a lot since I got a 2012 bottle few day days ago... this is one of the best examples of the perfume smelling like the bottle and juice LOOK. This smells chartreuse. It also has a glossy black licorice-like sweetness to it that's highly addictive. Alternate names for it could be Melancholia, Eau Embalm...

MrMack

Definitely one of the classier fragrances I own. It's a pretty linear fragrance over all. I smell the bergamot and vetiver for about the first 30 minutes or so, and then I get this gorgeous myrrh dry down that just lasts, and lasts, and lasts....

1-2 sprays to the chest easily lasts 12 hours. Really this thing is a beast. Definitely better suited for cold weather, but by no means inappropriate on a mild summer night. It appears that some people here are really butt-hurt that this doesn't smell like Eau Sauvage EDT... they are correct, but I don't care. This is a gorgeous fragrance and I don't really care what they call it.

I am in LOVE with this fragrance. Its so rich and deep and regal. But at the same time you can wear it casually. In my opinion its a perfect signature scent. But then again, I love the deep, balsamic fragrances. I would wear this through all seasons. Disclosure, I work for a very conservative company and wear a suit and tie to work everyday and I work in an air conditioned office.

rodentmancavy238?

Nothing else like it. Hypnotic, long-lasting,unique!

yasser.bouaichi

Very high quality fragrance! Very rich, dark and distinguished. it testifies to the quality of this line.
The opening of bergamot followed by a dry woody note of vetiver combined perfectly with the deep and resinous note of myrrh, give this fragrance a unique alluring that I have never smelled before.
Only for the people who know how to be classy. Masterpiece!

Today, at the local perfume shop I went to before lunch, there were two 100 ml. bottles of this elixir available…well, let’s say there’s now only one left—the other one is in my hands! The tag price was quite high ($145), but as my birthday is drawing near, I said, “Why not? Besides, I’ve earned every single ml. of it!”

Eau Sauvage Parfum opens with a sweet, spicy, creamy bergamot, which somewhat resembles lemon pie (there seems to be a hint of vanilla that adds to its sugariness). One to two hours later, the sweetness subsides and allows vetiver to stand out, giving the whole composition an earthier aura, without compromising its creaminess; the scent remains pretty much the same four to six hours after spraying. It has a smoky, dark vibe provided by the absolutely gorgeous myrrh that turns this classic into a perfect modern-age rendition of the original Eau Sauvage juice. In addition, the package and bottle are really handsome. I realized my bottle is a 2012 formula (batch code is 2N03).

I think ESP is (one of) the best perfume(s) I’ve ever had the chance to purchase. Classic Eau Sauvage, together with YSL Kouros and others, is in the pinnacle of masculine perfumery, and as such it has inspired a plethora of classic and modern perfumes alike. Its enormous quality is undeniable.

Talking about performance, longevity is fantastic--+10 hours; projection is great, but not overpowering (around 1.5 meters); and sillage is awesome—I’d said before that the aroma is out of this world. Even though Eau Sauvage Parfum is very costly, it does deliver and treats you with endless pleasure and joy, which has been typical of Dior fragrances over the years; this juice is, undoubtedly, one of François Demachy's chefs d'oeuvre. It's been said this EDP suits formal occasions best (and thus might lack versatility), but I see no reason why it can't be used in more casual events--it all depends on your aplomb and on how comfortable you feel wearing it.

If you're into classic citrusy scents, you must go get this one before it disappears completely and prices go through the roof...Eau Sauvage Parfum is hallucinating, stunning, high-end nectar!

Now, I've bought 800 ml.
I saw this masterpiece has come to an end,
so this was the only thing to do.
Is it that good? No - it's even better!
Nothing can compensate (2012) Eau Sauvage Parfum!

That beautiful opening, (though very short),
that dry Vetiver, the amber and
THAT Myhrr!
My gosh...

So sad it's soon gone...

While you still can - BUY THIS BEAUTY!

Brache

This is a wonderful, marvellous fragrance. The 3 notes are perfectly discernible yet blended fantastically.
It lasts for ages and projects a lot, leaving behind a halo of class and elegance.
It's very sad to compare it with the 2017 reformulation, which has a prominent bergamot note that masks the others giving it a much more superficial character. Also missing in the 2017 version: the superior quality of the Myrrh, replaced with a much cheaper-smelling elemi.

Like most of us, i own quite a bit of perfume, and this is my most complimented fragrance.
People stop me on the street to ask what I'm wearing, and friends can't stop smelling me.
It's beautiful. It's in my top 3 for sure. Sillage and longevity are awesome. It's a beast.

The dated vibe that we get from Guerlain vetiver is accentuated here. Making it impossible for me to imagine myself wearing this. The bergamot hardly lasts a minute making way for a thick & cloying combination of myrrh, vetiver & "eucalyptus".

Got to admit that it is quality stuff. Perhaps the reason why so many people say it belongs to Dior Privee line. I don't belong to that Niche to appreciate this fragrance.

Got to try the 2017 version. May be it is for me!!??

Just enormous. Can be worn for comfort or when out.

Not incredibly middle eastern as the notes would suggest but oh my!

Heavily Refreshing

I have the 2016 batch and it is a fantastic fragrance for the winter. If you are of a mature temperament/attitude and love creamy vetiver fragrances, this one is for you. It is a very unique fragrance and you will stand out.
Great longevity and projection. Lasts 10+ hours on my skin. After 6-7 hours becomes nice and creamy and mellow - Never really turns into a skin scent until this point.
Highly recommend. One of my favourite winter fragrances. Not sure how the 2017 formulation performs though.

I get today a sample of the new reformulation of ESP, with only a note changed:
bergamot,stronger and fresher than the original;
vetiver, same as the original;
elemi, instead myrrh, less powdery than the original.

Pheraps the original is better........but the new is not bad.......

chardee_macdennis

I wore this so seldomly that I'd begun to consider swapping or selling it. But then came the reformulation, and now I'll never part with this bottle. If the day comes where I end up at more frequent formal occasions, I'll find way more cause to spritz this on me. At this rate, and with the strength this fragrance performs, I expect my 100ml to last a lifetime.

I'm not sure why Dior felt the need to touch this one. I assumed it was safe because it filled its role so well, and was a work of art.

I'm addicted to this juice! 3 notes and I am hooked. It's being moved into my top favorites. Cannot get enough and I bought the 6.8 oz bottle! Should get another since reformulation is different without myrrh.

This is extremely classy but IDGAF and wear it casually (I'd never wear it otherwise...) The myrrh note to me is reminiscent of Fahrenheit Absolute and the fragrance has an overall pretty dark feel to it which is so inviting. Great silage and performance only bolsters the fragrance's strengths - I can't find a weak point. Some may find it not too versatile and strictly a formal occasion fragrance but nah, not me. In fact I feel that way for many scents (e.g. Antaeus)

And yes, I definitely think there's more than 3 notes in here (same goes for Fahrenheit Absolute) but they are the main ones to me. I also get a kind of vanilic creaminess at times which is gorgeous.

Yesterday morning, I had the chance to try Eau Sauvage Parfum. These were my reactions:

1 minute after spraying: Meh, it's not that good.
2 hours after spraying: F#%&, I want a full bottle!

FlexYoFace

Smell like a billionaire who just left the barbershop. 10/10 beast mode, yet creamy, not harsh.

ImAddicted

Yes, this is class and sophistication in a bottle. I'm more of a lavender or soft citrus kind of guy, so this fragrance did not suit me. I have a 200ml virtually full bottle (before reformulation) for swap if anyone is interested.

@rombass - sounds plausible - it's a "house base" I guess. Believe it or not I have never smelled DHI. Only Homme.
But def . = the myrrh is toned down as you put it -

THE DARK (AND GORGEOUS) SIDE OF THE BRIGHT EAU SAUVAGE!!!

Nothing in common with the masterpiece Eau Sauvage edt, but ESP has a big charme, it’s a really elegant, (a little bit) cozy and reassuring fragrance, not for the youngest crowds.
At first sniff it seemed to me similar to Habit Rouge, but then I didn’t found that resemblance: the only point in common is the vintage, but really classy aspect.
It’s a great combo, the myrrh that removes a little bit the bitterness and the dampness of the vetyver, and gives a slightly powdery and cozy aspect; perhaps the bergamot lifts up all the composition, without overbearing.
It has a great and polite presence, it’s like a whispered and elegant: “Hey, here I am”…….
Surely not only three notes compose this fragrances, but they seem really natural, and not so chemicals.
All I can say it’s that I love this scent, it’s the dark (but fantastic) side of the bright Eau Sauvage edt.

I don’t know the policy and the choices company at Christian Dior Parfums: why they has to change the composition, making a classic but enhanced Eau Sauvage?
But……. WHY THEY REMOVE AWAY ONE OF THEIR FANTASTIC CREATION????????

For all the lovers of THIS ESP, bergamot myrrh and vetyver, I suggest to stock up of all the bottles with this fantastic juice.

Really sad to hear this is to be d/c or reformulated...it's lovely! Stop mucking around with lovely things...

So this is on the way out , then? There are two versions of this - the original launch, and the current formula. The original had a 10 minute citrus and spice opening, and then rather quickly settled into a sweet warm myrrh bomb- and it stayed that way. The vetiver wasn't actually that easy to pick up. It projected like crazy. Best myrrh note ever !

The current version has a much longer citrus opening - it goes on for 1-2 hours. A very green , semi sour citrus with a dusty element, from vetiver I think. It them finally settles into the myrhh - but - it smells like myrrh thats been mixed with vanilla and/or tonka. Its not exactly the same note as the earlier version. Version 1 smelled very simple and clear with a very pure smelling myrrh note (vibe = essential oil-like) , version 2 smells much more complex at all times (vibe = cologne).

The current version still smells mature, with a bit of an 'ancient cathedral' vibe.

Well if they are switching out the myrrh with elemi for some reason I guess we'll see how it compares. Maybe to fit it in with the vibe of Eau Sauvage line better ? Versions 1 + 2 kinda didn't . But the new version doesn't necessarily sound like it will either.
