Cabotine by Grès is a Floral fragrance for women. Cabotine was launched in 1990. The nose behind this fragrance is Jean Claude Delville. Top notes are Coriander, Orange Blossom, Black Currant, Cassia, Plum, Tangerine and Peach; middle notes are Tuberose, Hiacynth, Carnation, Ginger, Jasmine, Ylang-Ylang, Freesia, Iris, Rose, Heliotrope and Violet; base notes are Civet, Vetiver, Black Currant, Musk, Sandalwood, Cedar, Amber, Tonka Bean and Vanilla.

In the creator\'s imagination, Cabotine is a daughter of Cabochard, a younger generation perfume, which has preserved the elegance and distinction of Cabochard. It was created with love and enthusiasm, with a very limited budget, and it became a classic of the 1990-ties.

It was created by Jean-Claude Delville from IFF, and he was expected to make a light but lasting perfume, what was a hard task to do. The perfumer found its formula in floral-aldehyde accord and presented a transparent fragrance with green floral and sharp aldehyde notes. The perfume is very light, easy to wear and at the same time tenacious. It achieved success regardless of very limited advertising and promotional support.

The composition is created around the ginger lily, also known as a butterfly lily, a Himalayan large-petalled white flower. Growing in harsh high mountains climate, this plant blooms for only a few weeks in the spring time, and each flower lives only for a few hours, what makes it difficult, almost impossible, to extract the oil. An IFF pioneering researcher, Dr. Braja Mookherjee, found a way to analyse the oil structure using the \'living-flower\' technique, and to copy the fragrance of the ginger lily, what enabled the industrial production. Cabotine is the first perfume which contains ginger lily in its composition.

The top notes contain blackcurrant buds, pear, plum and corriander. The heart is composed of rose, tuberose, ylang-ylang, ginger lily, hyacinth, heliotrop, fresia, violet and iris. The base notes are cedarwood, vanilla, tonka bean, cybet, musk and amber. The perfume was created in 1990. The bottle, whose stopper was turned into a shape of flower, was created by Thierry Lecoule.

Loved it from the first sniff, I get a strong indole note, which stays throughout the etrnity. Though the perfume tends to be fresh, green and floral, you wouldn't like to overspray it - it is very strong and durable for 8+ hours, without losing it's potency, without cardinal changes, somewhat liner.
Though I like it very much, I would not recommend it to be a blind buy (it was one for me) - the smell is quite specific (indolic).

Sometimes I'm in the mood to smell something vintage-y and powerhouse. This fits that mood. I thought for sure this had aldehydes in it, but none listed in the notes. Honestly, this isn't something I would wear publicly b/c it's just not a crowd-pleaser in current times. You probably won't get compliments while wearing this unless you cross paths with another vintage vibes perfume lover. Not a safe blind buy. I know I'm making this sound horrible, but it really is good if you like that style of perfumery. In my opinion, if you like Chanel No. 5 you might like this one too. No, they don't smell alike but I feel like the "style" of the fragrances are similar. The drydown on this is much lovelier than the blast at the opening. Very affordable, so give it a try if you are in the right kind of mood!

Wow! This perfume surprised me. It did not cost very much money, but it smells soooo good. It starts off beautiful and stays beautiful. It has sweetness, floral, spice and soft powdery freshness. I am super impressed with this scent, especially considering it was not expensive (at all). Cabotine de Gres also has a unique and pretty bottle that looks lovely in my perfume collection. I'm wearing it right now, and it's driving me crazy – it's so intoxicating to my senses. It reminds me a little bit of Tatiana by Diane Von Furstenberg. Love it! I forgot to mention that I have the eau de parfum. It has lasting power that I smell on my clothing days later when I'm doing the laundry.

maryna.opanya

The beginning is a strong powerful ylang-ylang note for me which I like the most in this EDT but unfortunately it does not last very long (10-15 minutes) and then only something from the 90s remains, old-school flowery, aldehydic

Darius HIldenbrandt

Powerful gem with retro vibes. Queen of tuberosa and ylang ylang.

Entr3_Nou5

All those notes yet all I could smell was the tuberose, which I don’t like. Sad indeed. I guess that’s what I get for such a cheap fragrance.

Weirdly, I got it in a bundle pack with a lotion of the same fragrance and it’s… actually pretty okay? I mean it’s still just a generic citrusy-floral scent and that punch to the face of tuberose is gone but I’ll probably at least be able to use it to layer under something. All this to say if you’re gonna get this scent, get it in its lotion form.

I have been curious about Cabotine for about half a year and I finally bought a bottle of this not having high expectations. I knew it is very polarizing scent so I was not even planning to be wearing it. God, how much was I mistaken! The scent is absolutely great - elegant, timeless, floral and divine. Imagine wearing a flowy white dress in the middle of sunny meadow, thats what it smells like. There is somwthing really positive in this one.
Well, it's probably not for everyone and definitely not for those wearing LVeB, Libre or other designer staples of this time.

I am in my early 20s and I am looking forward to be wearing this.

BTSequestrian

This is a nice affordable all-purpose fragrance. On my skin, it smells like EA Sunflowers with green and powdery notes added in.

I purchased a 100 ml bottle at Marshall's (owned by TJ Maxx) for $16.99 USD.

mirrorghost

what a delightful perfume. in the beginning it reminds me of a brighter/lighter dior poison (i have never smelled tendre poison, so have no idea how similar it is to the original.) cabotine is green but also very fruity and floral. it's gorgeous and vintage smelling and i love it. i get mostly tuberose with plum and blackcurrant. the only fruity scents that seem to work for me are 80s/90s vintages such as this. later on the fruits are balanced a bit more by woods and spices, then i get more of the florals, particularly jasmine and freesia. i finally sense the hyacinth way into the drydown! spring in a bottle.

BlackberryCollins53

I hated this when I first opened it. It has been in my stash for months after getting it and I Like it more now. It has a metallic scent to it now and I’m still not in love with it. I appreciate vintage fragrances and keep them for their power and depth but I struggle to imagine when I would actually wear this. I would love any suggestions as to an occasion to wear this!

PopsicleBicycle

I have just bought this again as I specifically wanted an unusual and bitter smelling perfume in the same vein as Eden and I wasn't disappointed.
Luca Turin wrote that this perfume is vile and compared it to Ma Griffe saying that the latter is a green chypre with a Miss.Moneypenny spinsterish loveliness.
I would say this is a very green herbaceous floral that at times is very bitter and almost medicinal.
I think it is these last two notes that make its detractors dub it an 'old ladies perfume'. Why? Because it has zero pretentions about seducing the opposite sex. This is a classic and bold, no-nonsense perfume for a mature lady in tweeds who doesn't give a hoot whether you like her fragrance or not.
It is that type of loud self assuredness that gives this perfume its appeal. It really stands out amongst other perfumes that are oh so apologetic about themselves and trying to appear girly so as not to offend. You will either love it or hate it.
I love it for its self possessed spinsterness.
If you are out to impress, this is not for you. If you want to blast through the day and want to get things done (maybe whilst hunting on a horse in tweeds) then this might be the perfume you have always been looking for but people were too afraid to tell you about.

brandiwine1980

I’ve been wanting to try this for so many years. I’m so disappointed, but I only paid 12.99 at TJ Maxx so oh well. More than likely I will be donating this. It’s very sharp, screeching and smells very dated. I get 80’s more than 90’s which makes sense since it was released in 1990. I also smell something very similar to cat pee with a little vomit. I’m sure I’ll offend someone, but just keeping it 100. I don’t get why they keep making gross perfumes like this, but stop making some real beauties.

Skank

Blind bought this based on notes and some comments here and it just arrived. Really fresh bouquet of fruits and flowers in a blender! Almost ripe and sticky, but not quite there so a tiny bit biting and yeah greenish and I like that. On first impact it kinda slaps you hard and you’re plucked for a minute waiting for it to settle but sometimes a floral has to take no prisoners as it’s first move. Ngl kind of exactly what I was expecting hoping saying preaching and praying to get when I ordered it. First impression is hard not to love it 😍 Looking forward to getting into it more, other florals I have at the moment are kind of light and wispy and not always cutting it for me most days when I want something more cracking.

snoopy2

Oof. It might dry down to something wonderful but the opening is gas station bathroom air freshener.

Motherofhavok

Let it dry and spray with a light hand. I think this is an absolutely beautiful floral. It blasts a bit sharp and aldehydic at first, but it dries into such a pretty fresh floral. I don’t feel like this smells dated, but it is a little too complex and sophisticated for some. It wears very much like a niche fragrance. According to the box, the top notes are: Mandarin, Ginger, Ylang-Ylang. Mid Notes: Tuberose, Hyacinth, Ginger Lily. Base Notes: Patchouli, Sandalwood, Musk, Black Currant. I mostly pick up the ylang-ylang and tuberose. It’s very much a “clean girl” fragrance. I would put it in the same genre (not dupes) as Britney Spears Believe, Gucci Flora, and Chanel Chance au Tendre. It’s crisp and clean and will last all day.

ElifAkyol

I am in no way competent enough to advise anyone on fragrance layering. That aside, I tried layering 2 spritz of SJP Lovely body spray, topped with one spritz of Chopard Wish, finished with this Cabotine Gres. The middle notes of this mix reminded me of Tendre Poison which I love and wore so often in the 90s. Cabotine edp gets too soapy on my skin, sharp florals, lacks woodiness and soft floral sweetness of TP. Don’t get me wrong, I have no intention to disrespect Cabotine but I loved TP so much and found it so unique and unmatchable, still looking for it everywhere. This is as close as I could get for now.

Blossomlove

My sister wore this and Quel Quel Fluers in the 90's and I still love them both. She wasn't like me, she had just a few bottles and wore the same fragrance for years so I vividly remember this scent and loving it then. I don't know if I love it as much as I used to but I will say that it's a beast. I bought Cabotine Rose and that one is straight weak sauce compared to this one's beast mode. It's a very green, clean floral scent. I would agree that the floral notes are really indistinguishable and you just get the green floral vibe. If I get any notes it's jasmine, hyacinth, carnation and definitely the tuberose. There is a spiciness from the coriander and ginger and the greenery with the hyacinth, cassis and black currant notes. The base is heavy with vetiver, civet, and musk. I'm guessing it's the ylang ylang that creates the oriental quality. This is not a scent for people who like mild scents, it's french perfumery with middle eastern performance. It smells womanly-this is the scent of a grown, mature, WOMAN-not girly at all. While it is categorically a day time scent, the oriental quality and intensity make it appropriate as well for night. As for Poison Tendre, don't know it but I do know that this scent was created years before it's release, 1990.

pearleytreacle

I have four bottles of this affordable beauty on my writing desk. Not to everyone's taste -decidedly mature and 'classic' or old timey- with a French couture house feel, homing from its retired couture roots. Like flower petals stewed in thick sun, with a murky deep ending. An alcoholic whiff that lasts a little too long when applying, but this is an acceptable debt to pay when it comes to such a rich, but cheap, perfume.

FaithVogueShop

This smells like urine on me after a few hours.

cats_eye

This is like a light version of Poison. I can definitely see the relationship with Tendre Poison as well. Tons of fragrances copied the berry plummy tuberose/carnation floriental style after Poison was released.

MandyBloom

Oh là là Cabotine, I think I love you. Originally I was wishing for crisp floral aldehydes but what what I’m actually getting on my skin is so much better-rich and sultry acacia nectar, green twigs and artisanal soap. Nothing outdated, no „old lady” smell. If I was said it’s been something niche, I would definitelly trust it.

Shannn

Im literally on my way to work and tried it this morning..boy oh boy is this badddd... definitely like some old perfume older women would wear.it got that spicy note and it's not for ths faint hearted one's..i don't understand why so many good perfumes out there get so much hate but this one gets love..my grandma used a vintage perfume and im still obsessed with it i can literally feel the scent although i don't remember the name but this one is the worst..i hate this and cabochard too...i do not recommend this and definitely not a blind buy....

bellsprout

it's like being 8 and you're playing outside and it's a warm late spring day. A tepid breeze stuffs your nose with the heavy, narcotic fragrance of a thousand flowers blooming around you. Honeysuckle hiacynth hawthorn clover :) it especially reminds me of clover flowers. Thought it was gonna be more complex or interesting, wish i could find some bitterness and astringency in there.. we'll see! Maybe i can find something nice to layer it with, as it is it's waaay too old school nice girl/lady smelling for me.

That being said, it is potent as hell... spritzed it on a coat in my wardrobe and kept coming back to sniff the spritzed area for three days.. and there it was, cabotine, rearing its flowery head. Insane potency considered the price.

francesco_grieco

Cabotine by Grès is a fragrance that strikes an exquisite balance of affordability and quality. Upon the initial spritz, I detect a surprising aldehydic and green tuberose blend, even though aldehydes aren't officially listed. Then it unfolds into a sweet floral allure, radiating a pristine charm with a touch of vintage, akin to animalic notes found in classic soaps with natural ingredients. What sets Cabotine apart is its impressive note complexity, creating an illusion of opulence beyond its price. The bottle, in its tangible presence, is incredibly cute.

ElShap

I was excited to try this one, based on reviews and notes. It arrived today, and as soon as a sprayed it I remembered smelling it as a kid and getting an overwhelming ammonia tang. I definitely get aggressively green notes and white florals too (whoa! One spray and it's powerful!) but that metallic nastiness is way too prominent for at least the first half hour. I'm not sure I can wait for a whole dry down before I wash it off. The background notes I quite like - gentle warm breezes in a flower garden. Shame that the ammonia is a loud banging drum on my sense.

I've recently discovered I'm one of those ambroxan over-smellers, I guess? Mugler's Angel is repellant to me, and Baccarat Rouge 540 is very unimpressive.

I assume that the note bothering me here is something different, since I remember smelling it in the old version (1990s) also. Maybe the blackcurrant? I got the same note from a recent sample of J'adore as well.

Overall, I'm with the minority who smell nursing homes in this bottle. Sorry, Cabotine, but it's a hard no.

Edited to add: I had no choice but to go through the dry-down. It does get more pleasant, and you find yourself continuing to sniff your arm. However, that sharp unpleasant note never quite went away. The longevity is insane - a single spray was still there after three washings with dish soap!

AnneAnne888

Wow, this is a uniquely beautiful fragrance. I collect Cabotine fragrances. This og is my favorite along with Aquarelle. The bottles are all so pretty and adorable. No offense to Fragrantica, but they do not always get the notes right, It's not regular ginger, it's the very rare Ginger Lily as the description above explains but I knew prior to coming here because I devour all things perfume lol. It's fresh and light but lasting and the dry down is close to the heart notes but softer and warmer somehow but maintaining the opening brightness. It's elegant yet playful and sexy. You could wear it during the day but it can compliment an evening dress for an evening event. It would also be lovely on a bride. I never equate any fragrance with any particular age, but more personality and this is youthful in an elegant way but can be carried by a grown ass woman lol. It has a lot of personality. Definitely keeping in my rotation. I agree with an earlier reviewer who said we need to leave labels like "old fashioned" behind, and I'll add the ridiculously rude and repetitive term "old lady" as when the classics were made, those who are elders now were very young then and I agree each perfume should be appreciated and enjoyed for what it is. Does a char grilled burger not smell as good now as it did 100 years ago, is an American beauty rose outdated ? I think not. 30 years from now will people be calling all the cotton candy, vanilla scents ( which I also like ) and all gourmands, "old lady" scents ? Think outside the box.

Folio

Gosh🤔this is absolutely awful… when I read the notes yesterday I was expecting something wonderful… instead I found it very sharp and sort of “off” or rather oxidised because I got an instant headache and felt nauseous… it’s a beautiful bottle and box… but reminds me of old old ladies in a nursing home who gave drenched themselves in years old perfume… so I’m gonna have to donate it to one of the charity shops🙄🫣

carlitosfofitos

É um perfume da mãe e cheira a mãe, mas o cheiro parece mesmo tóxico e acho que pode ser devido aos coentros.

"Coriander, Orange Blossom, Black Currant, Cassia, Plum, Tangerine and Peach; middle notes are Tuberose, Hiacynth, Carnation, Ginger, Jasmine, Ylang-Ylang, Freesia, Iris, Rose, Heliotrope and Violet; base notes are Civet, Vetiver, Black Currant, Musk, Sandalwood, Cedar, Amber, Tonka Bean and Vanilla"

Também tem "cedar", que está no perfume do irmão.

Gabrielle mimosa

This perfume had been on my wish-list for over a year i think but I never got to it, untill today that is ! And I'm honestly pleasently surprised . it's an extremly strong perfume I got the EDT and it's really sharp , for the notes I don't really smell any of the fruity top notes, to me the most noticble notes in this are the jasmine and the tuberose , it's a mix of sharp florals and greens and for some reason it reminds me of my childhood (the 90) even though I'm pretty sure my mother never owned one of these . anyway all in all its definitely a perfume that I love now and if you like strong flrals I definitely recommend this 👌 ♥️

mochimicho

The EDT has been my go-to for a few months now, but I haven't characterized her just yet. *Who* wears Cabotine? *How* does one wear Cabotine? It's beyond me. What I do know is that the plum and currant in the opening are wonderfully crisp. I find the whole fragrance sharp and obtrusive. Sharp florals. Sharp greens. Sharp... musks? I agree with the claims of artificiality, but I leave the contempt. She has the kind of freshness you won't find in nature because it's not realistic. It's optimism. Yes, if optimism had a scent.

rene.saller

It has been a long time since I smelled Tendre Poison, but I suppose this does have a bit of that perfume's special inimitable élan. This smells very green to me (and I don't think it's all because of the juice and delightful bottle cap), like green hyacinths and leaves. It's a little soapy, which I like, and the jasmine doesn't come off remotely indolic. I mostly smell orange blossom and tangerine for the first couple of hours; the base notes begin peeking out a bit after that, but they never approach what I'd call spicy or even woody or grassy. It has some amber, musk, and vanilla in the base, but I understand why Fragrantica just categorized this as a floral fragrance rather than a floral-amber. It's very well-blended in that it's hard to pick out individual notes, especially when you get to the body of the fragrance.

Alexchanel22

Cabotine Grès is what I call an oldie but goodie. Sure, it can be called an old lady perfume. I love how inexpensive it is, and you get a whiff every once in a while of Orange Blossom and amber. It's really a beauty!

LadyT33

Well, this was a horror!! I don’t see why everyone raves about this perfume. I HATED it!! It gave me old lady vibes and not in a good way.(No offense to old ladies - I’m on my way to becoming one and I love most perfumes for older women.) After an entire day of wearing it I wanted to take a Silkwood shower and torch the clothes I was wearing. It was that bad. I seldom have this reaction to any perfume. Left it by the trash cans on the windowsill, hoping I’d make someone’s day. It’s a negative for me.

silvas

Super flavor. I wear this perfume with pleasure even if I am a man. I think it has about 30% male chords. Very good performance defies all current standards. Vintage touch ensures a strong personality.
I talked here about toilet water, which for me has similarities to Elizabeth Arden, Blue Grass and Ted Lapidus, Rumba. For the quality offered, the price of 9 E / 100ml is amazingly low.

SundayGirl07

I was born in 1990 and I swear this smell is SO familiar and comforting to me! Absolutely love it. Upon first spray I got a rose note that I disliked but as it sat for about 10 minutes it went away and went into everything else. This perfume has been my go-to lately! It does smell mature. As in a middle aged person might wear it. Maybe a mom? Especially with all the younger scents being heavily sweet smelling. But I don't mind that because I'm not into the sweeter smells, I'm more into florals. It is so comforting. I love putting it on and then laying down for bed and smelling it while going to sleep. Reminds me of something about my childhood. I would love to find other scents like this! Not dupes but just in the same category of that mature 90's without an aldehydes smell. People have been calling this a 'cold' floral and I'm not quite sure what they mean but it sure is uplifting to me!

simetra23

Smells like freshly laundered sheets. If used sparingly, it's a delight!

Electriclady

I have only just recently started buying perfumes by this house and what caught my attention was the comparisons to Dior's Tendre Poison, which was discontinued several years ago. It was the first perfume I really saved up and bought with my own money, and I loved it. TP remains one of my all-time favourites and I really was upset when it was discontinued.
Having smelled both, I would say that Cabotine is as close as you're going to get to the original and I have enjoyed wearing it. There is something moderately sweeter about this one, but overall, it has brought back pleasant memories.
It is a very grown-up fragrance and some of the other reviews suggest it smells old-fashioned. I think we need to leave those kinds of labels behind and enjoy each fragrance for the unique creation that it is. Compared to what's currently on the market these days, this certainly requires confidence to wear it, but you'll certainly stand out from the crowd when you do.
Personally speaking, if I could get TP I would probably still buy that instead, but I can't and this is a superb substitute at a fraction of the price I would have paid for the Dior perfume.

danihinata

Floral poderoso e maravilhoso. Ótimo custo-benefício.

fragitiina

Cabotine reminds me of something from my childhood, maybe a place or maybe someone nice wore it, which wouldn't be a suprise, since Cabotine originates from the 90s. It gives a little bit too cleaner-like scent, but nevertheless, it's somehow comforting. I don't wear it myselft, but I do like to spray my room with it. The fragrance can linger for a full day! The price was an absolute steal at 7 euros... I bought it during a sale from Notino, and I wonder if it's a fake, since the Qr code on the box did not direct to a working link/site... Regardless, I do enjoy it - as a room spray.

dezaval

This is a fresh cut bouquet of white flowers picked from the garden early one morning on May... Is it?

No! It's an EXPLOSION of white flowers! Great sillage and projection. Clean and clear, greenish and a bit dewy, very easy-to-wear. This is my go-to frag for this very hot weather. It was released in 1991. Tendre Poison was released in 1995, after the triumph of Cabotine. And yes, Cabotine is a very close dupe to Tendre Poison by Dior. Or Tendre Poison was the dupe of Cabotine? ;-) Very beautiful!

cristielbe

I am in love with Cabotine! I can’t believe I never tried before. It is so feminine, delicate, delicious and last almost all day!

Mags322

Just received this beautiful perfume today. And I love it. Great projection.

This is what happiness smells like! 🍀
A girl in her mid forties who is sometimes still mistaken for late twenties to early thirties has new aches and pains now. Her joints hurt a little more, okay, a lot more, and she notices herself changing. She sees the small beginnings of "crape paper skin" developing as she looks at her once perfectly smooth arms. She traces a finger over them, wondering, "When did that happen?" She moves a little slower now as she takes her leisurely evening walks because her knees and back like to "playfully" remind her they are there with little bursts of surprises catchs and aches. She hasn't been bicycle riding all summer due to those mischievous knees of hers she muses, as she thinks of how much she misses it. One day, when she is watering her porch garden of flowers, she realizes that no matter how spare the flowers petals become with the sun and winds, the smell is just as beautiful!

Getting older is like that. It doesn't change your scent. This perfume is that scent. It is the scent of youthful clover mixed with laughter. The scent of changing but staying the same. A scent some would call old upon first glance, but once they inhaled it they would realize no matter the age there is nothing old about it!

This scent is a girl who is not middle age, her age just happens to be somewhere in the middle now.

The scent is a girl in her mid forties who still plays like the child at heart she is when her knees behave well.
This scent is giddily sniffing all the flowers and all the petals are beautiful, "crape paper" sun and wind kissed or not! 😊

Youthful happiness in a bottle!

Dcarlo

Feminine, incredibly feminine and bombastic like no other.
Yes you must have the right attitude and style to wear it or it will wear you.
The flowers simply take over the scene and each one has a moment to shine before the next.
Tuberose is the star with no doubt but the ginger lily makes a delightful complement.
The prune is ripe, juicy and tempting. The other notes create the perfect support for the entire fragrance.
It’s a true classic and may feel dated to some. But I can’t deny it’s charm and beauty.
Definitely not for everyone but perfect for those who can pull it off.

I got the EDT version after some thinking - now I really want to pick up the EDP as well. I mostly got it due to it’s comparisons to Tendre Poison - but they’re only really similar in the drydown and general direction. Poison is a lot more clean and crisp, while Cabotine is just warm honey and summer flowers in a bottle. The sillage is great for the price too. I wouldn’t say this perfume is a people pleaser but it’s far off from off-putting.

Fierce Swan Scent

It's astonishing, that notes pyramid. I don't like plum, peach or blackcurrant in perfumes yet here I don't pick them up at all. They must be very well blended and in the background. Likewise vanilla. The first blast is very reminiscent of the smell from Lush shops. Then it settles down to incense. Yes, an unlit floral-musky incense stick, no smokiness. Quite complex - it's perfumey, there are things going on but I can't pick out any note in particular. Maybe a weird grapey note that borderline ruins it. I'm amazed by the very different reviews on Cabotine. As if it changes depending on who sprayed it. Magic brew.

Nimu

I was afraid of all the floral notes mentioned. To me a primarely floral perfume could be a headache inducing bug spray smell. But this one is sweet and fresh.Smells like fresh honey from a jar.

MandalaaXO

This is for the EDT because I had a hard time finding the notes for it. The EDT smells like sitting in a verdant garden full of white flowers white eating a cookie with honey and preserves.

Even with a search, I found 2 different lists of notes. But I'm going with the Fragrance Net because of the fruity, lactonic notes - even though my box specifically points out ginger lily. Who knows what the actual notes are??

Amazon
Top Note: mandarin, ginger, ylang-ylang
Heart Note: wild hyacinth, tuberose, ginger lily
Base Note: patchouli, sandalwood, and musks

Fragrance Net
Opening notes: Coriander, Black Currant, Plum, Cassia, Peach and Tangerine
Great: Carnation, Tuberose, Iris, Hiacynth, Ginger and Heliotrope
Dries down to Sandalwood, Cedar, Vanilla.

This is delightful! I blind-bought the EDP version out of curiosity because of all the reviews and comparisons to Dior’s Tendre Poison, and it was a risky one for me, because green scents often tickle my nostrils the wrong way and can be even headache-inducing. This is definitely not the case! Cabotine is green honey, dewy freshness, spring flowers and sticky new leaves and buds. It’s so happy and carefree that it took my mind off all the horrors of the world I’ve been contemplating when I woke up.

This is a retro fragrance, no mistake, but retro in a very good way. It’s like a window to the past. As many people before me in this section, I don’t understand all the “old lady” references. When I smell this, I can see my childhood and my mother’s perfume cabinet. I don’t know which one of those 80s frags Cabotine reminds me of, but I definitely smelled something like this when I used to bring a stool to reach for the shelf where mom kept her treasures. Lancome Ô Oui? Revillon Turbulences? Combination of both on my little wrists?

Cabotine EDP smells like eighties and early nineties, yes, but it smells like young people back then, like oversized plastic jewelry and sequins, curled voluminous hairstyles, flowy fabrics, high-heeled sandals, overdone makeup. Yet all these hip made-up young people are out in the sun on the green having a picnic and drinking a sparkling white wine. It’s fresh, airy, festive, natural, lively. I don’t know how else to describe it. It’s sweet, like the wine can be sweet – not like candy. It has this interesting balance of innocence and sexiness, which makes it sound youthful, exuberant, and carefree. Old-lady, indeed!

With respect to Tendre Poison, I don’t think I can give a very detailed comparison because my only acquaintance with Dior’s discontinued scent is from a miniature I’ve recently bought, and I can’t say how well it’s preserved. All I can say is that I see the similarity, but Cabotine is sweeter and less green – which I prefer, I must say.

Chrisandra

I have the EDP version. Wonderful, very French, classy, very strong and long lasting. Green, flowery, fruity, sweet.
I don't care about labels: "old lady-like", "vintage", "wax-like", "cheap", "smells like pickles" etc.
It is a fragrance of excellent quality, and for less than 10 euro, it is great!
I understand that it has been reformulated, but I never smelled the 1990 original, so I can't compare the 2.
It doesn't smell cheap to me/on me at all.
But if you are in doubt, find a way to try it first.

LaLaPop75

I have a vintage tester. The notes as printed on bottle are: Top notes-Tangerine from Calabria, ginger, ylang ylang. Middle notes- ginger lily, wild hyacinth, tuberose. Base notes: Musk from Tibet, blackcurrant. This is real musk in here..a bit overwhelming, but nonetheless, a gorgeous fragrance.

Ambrenuit

I spent a long time thinking about this review in order to say everything I want about this unique fragrance.
I blind bought it and recommended it to a friend who lives very far away from me as a blind buy and we are both delighted, but still I wouldn't recommend it as a blind buy for everyone as it is not a fragrance for everyone.

The perfumes of the Grés house are different, they are not mainstream, they are not perfumes for a teenager or for a Kardashian type woman . All Grés perfumes have that typical French retro flair that is not admired by the masses, they are sophisticated fragrances for sophisticated women. To understand and appreciate this fragrance, it is beneficial to, if not to study, at least to look at Madame Grés' work and the amazing Greek pleated evening gowns that she designed.

You have to give this perfume the situation and circumstances to stand out properly and Cabotine shines the best with a similar type of dress as madame Grés was designing. It is suitable for an elegant dress or flowy blouse. You have to wear proper makeup. This is not parfume for leggings or jeans.

This perfume has so many aromatic accords that looking at the list makes you think, wow, what's not in here? We can find black currants, currant leaves, coriander, plums, tangerines, peaches, citrus, jasmine, hyacinth, ylang-ylang, freesia, cloves, tuberose, roses, irises, violets, musk, sandalwood, amber, tonka bean, vanilla, vetiver and the specialty of that perfume Himalayan ginger lily which was used in this perfume for the first time ever. This fragrance is green, fresh, full of white flowers with a little fruit, aldehydic, it is the smell of freshly cut grass, the smell of laundry washed in a mountain stream, dried in a meadow full of flowers. There is something buttery, fresh, invigorating, sparkling and French about it. I don't know what else to call it :-) I believe that lovers of french perfumes understand what I mean by the word something French :-)

The perfume is strong, long-lasting and sharp, it needs time to develop, at the beginning, right after you spray it, it's like someone slames you with a huge white bouquet and you don't know what to think, but after an hour it develops and softens. It is suitable for every season, but especially for spring, but I can also imagine it in summer and winter.
Cabotine is a name for an wandering actress from the end of the 19th century, and that's what Cabotine should be, it's for different types of women, a young woman could pull it off, her mother can pull it off and her grandmother can pull it off too. Cabotine can change her faces, but it's still a fragrance for a woman who understands and appreciates perfumes. It is not the type of perfume for a woman who owns only one perfume and wears it with every outfit, for every occasion and in every season. This perfume needs to be staged.

As for the bottle, it's amazing and kitsch stylish, the juice is yellow-green, rich, just like the fragrance. The broccoli-shaped top is iconic and I hope they NEVER change it.
Cabotine has been compared to the discontinued green Tendre Poison, and indeed they are quite similar, however Cabotine is definitely not a knock off of Tendre Poison. Cabotine was launched in 1990 and Tendre Poison fou years later in 1994. And finally, Dior took Tendre Poison out of production, as it didn't sell that well and Cabotine still lives on, perhaps that says it all.

The edp version of Cabotine Gres is thicker and more sticky smelling than the edt. It goes through a phase reminiscent of crushed flowers, like someone was trying to make floral wine and smashed a barrel of flowers instead of grapes. I love both but so far prefer the more musky edt after wearing it several times and the edp once. The EDP is more linear and has fewer notes. It reads as less complex and more modern. However it is less sharp and more..fluid, round.

The EDP is much closer to my memory of Dior Tendre Poison, which I never owned but remember on other people and from testing. In fact, I would say that the EDT does not remind me of Tendre Poison but the EDP does quite a lot.

CCSmith

Syrupy, strong, cloyingly sweet. Smells to me like grape jelly. Seems to last forever although that might be because I just don't like it. It is rare that I have such a strong reaction to a sweet perfume; even if I wouldn't wear something very sweet, I still might like it, because I like flowers, many of which are very sweetly-scented, in the garden. But this was a hard no for me. I believe I might be reacting to the black currant, and I admit I do not like berry-scented things, neither in perfumes, nor in beverages. All of those notes, many of which I really like, but the end result is those little cups of grape jelly you get in a diner. To me it is a very juvenile fragrance, but I don't think it really smells cheap; it's just a composition that doesn't appeal to me.

RachRach

OMG !!! Whoever said French and sophisticated describing this perfume is very very wrong!!! It may be French but it’s definitely not sophisticated.
Though it smells nice and it has that « old lady » vibe but it is comforting. I can picture a mom wearing this because it has the caring, nurturing , loving mother vibes to it.
The sillage is strong and so is the longevity hence it’s vintage side.
I wont go anywhere outside with this scent on me because it smells cheap, i mean it is … litteraly. But i’ll gladly stay in the comfort of my home cooking, cleaning, chilling with this on.

RAQUEL TEIXEIRA RIBEIRO

Yes Malena

I do not get bitter; I do not get green grass; and I definitely do not get herbal. All of those are very fine smells, but not featured in my Cabotine palette. I get warm, billowy (aldehydes) spicy florals that also go slightly powdery from the heliotrope, and a deeply sweet, woody-fruity base with animalic intrigue from the musk. Vetiver keeps it fresh, as does the high-pitched gorgeous hyacinth and lily in the opening. Despite the complexity, I've been surprised how well Cabotine can blend with other deep-toned perfumes. Not only for Spring, but most especially for Spring.
Not for people who cannot surrender.
Currently wearing edp, but I also own and wear edt. Current formulae.

ecovacsdn

Very bad perfume. You shouldn’t blind buy it.

As a vintage lover and connoisseur of anything labelled "old-lady", Cabotine feels quite young. An ageless bold floral with a sharp puff in it's opening and twangy drydown as the scent settles down onto a picnic blanket on the city park grass.

Cabotine is a young woman on the town that is constantly rummaging through a tote bag, someone who forget their umbrella and had to sprint through the rain to the approaching bus. She's clumsy, has a bit too much going on, but is committing to the bit for the sake of being authentic and I'm 100% projecting since this is such an easy scent to throw on in a rush, layer with thoughtfully, and have no trouble sweating out since it's just that pesky.

I wear this all year round and find it to be a backdoor signature scent-twice removed; a desperate comfort and something I can happily drain bottles of cause I just always need something bitter and impish in a floral

Kensagirl

This was my first blind buy that was a failure. Typically I am better at reading the notes and figuring out what I like and what's going to just sit there and look pretty.
In spite of my initial dislike I decided to give it a test run. The fragrance is sharp and familiar, just couldn't place it until my mother commented that she kept smelling something "burnt." I realized that it reminds me of cheap sented candles I used to get at drug stores. There's this waxy feeling to the fragrance that may be the civet that my nose just zones in on. I like the ninty-eight percent of the notes and that's probably why this doesn't work for me, it's too much, and feels crowded.

moonyguy

The most optimistic perfume ever. Best Value for Money. Even after 12 hours has a projection of 60 cm.
A perfumer craftsmanship wonder.

faithisonmyside

So in all honesty I was disappointed with this perfume. Not even the uniqueness of this product is pleasant. I bought it off of Amazon, looking fora unique yet spring smell. I am disappointed, it smells like that aqua blue white and red toothpaste mixed with copper in rubbing alcohol. The mix of so many notesis actually headache inducing. It's sad because it's a decent sized bottle and perfect aesthetic......it just smells really bad.

luna k

Combination of White Linen by Estee Lauder and Sparkling White Diamonds by Elizabeth Taylor with an additional grassy note, The only sweetness is the slight natural sweetness of the flowers. Soapy, understated and clean. Melancholic. Like in Sparkling White Diamonds, I detect something similar to Ivory Soap.

French and sophisticated. Does not have any of the bombastic sweetness of Italian and American fragrances like Versace Blonde and her twisted American sister Design, both of which I also love. No aspersions cast.

Cabotine is interesting, I like it. Perfect for when you get tired of syrupy ambers, high pitched sweet florals and sticky gourmands. EDT version tested.

Update after wearing this a couple of times. This is more musky than I originally thought. After the aldehydes burn off I'm getting a floral, slightly green white musk with a little animalic something or another. I don't remember what the early 90's version smelled like but I bet this is an example of a well executed reformulation. It hasn't lost the complexity and slightly animalic muskiness typical of that era. Cabotine EDT remains floral-sweet, not 'relying on cotton candy' compounds to make it sweet smelling.

The EDT is strong and long lasting. I get at least 8 hours then 4-6 additional hours of a skin scent. The bottle is charming, the performance is above average and the scent is delightful if you like slightly aldehydic florals. I can't wait to test the EDP version.

velvetcherry

This one... I was sucked in by the beautiful bottle and hoped I would pick up notes of green florals. In reality, when I first smelled the bottle I was taken back by how sharp and strong it was even before the first spray. Tested it on some paper and immediately the room was stinking of that "old lady" aroma. To my nose it smells like an old vase of white iris flowers that have been needing to be thrown out. I decided to give it a chance to melt into my skin and nope! I tried washing my wrist with soap and still I am getting wafts of drooping white iris and nursing home pee.
Not my scent at all but my roommate loved it so it didn't go to waste.
If you have a strong aversion to "old" smells, steer clear from this one.

Gingerspiced

I just got this in the mail and the box smelled so lovely I sprayed it all over myself immediately. I am a lover of musks, spice, warmth, and *sometimes* florals like jasmine or violet. It is hard to find a summery perfume that feels elegant and grounded enough for me without going too far into dirt smells or rubber aquatic. This smells like a fashion magazine ad that shows beautiful green scenery. Like walking through the well kept flower gardens of an expensive estate. Reading an intellectual book on a park bench in the early summer.

It is so blended that it is hard to pick notes, but it still smells complex. Intoxicating and warm. I love it SO much.

TikiKat

This was given to me as a gift, and I’ll keep the bottle around to please the gift-giver, but I can’t wear it. It’s so overpowering, you will choke out a room. There are so many notes, I can’t distinguish any of them. It smells like old-school bathroom freshener; its entire reason for existing is to cover up the smell of you-know-what. *One spray* is too much. For under twenty USD that’s quite the deal, if you like the scent. For me, I’ll just enjoy the cute bottle from a safe distance.

GracieGardener

Unabashedly cheeky, like a Banksy painting in perfume form. It does manage to capture the youthful defiance of the 90s quite well, if I may say so. A bit too bold and bracing for me to wear often. It is well blended. Love the white flowers and herbal notes; detest the civet and the carnation.

n0b0dyn0se

You are lying down in a small rowboat, gently drifting under a canopy of otherworldly flowers, over the quiet but murky waters of a shallow tributary of some much larger river far, far away. Your eyes are hypnotized by the sun-rays filtering through blooms suspended above you by some cunning artifice; each gap betwixt the petals - an almost blinding twinkle as you travel downstream. The buzzing of the insects, the croak of the frogs, the subtle rustle of weeping willow leaves as they part before the bow of your vessel, their caress upon your cheeks as you pass beneath their greenness... It all lulls you into a trance; a paradoxical state in-between indole-induced slumber and freely cartwheeling along the banks of a merrily bubbling stream.
Should your boat capsize, you will drown with a smile.

ooolgooo

Probably needless to say with all these notes above, but stay away if you are not a fan of white flowers. I tried it out of curiosity, as I often find that these oldschool fragrances can turn out very differently with thousands of notes that seems all the same, but here it is confirmed, this flower^flower. Powerhouse, don’t even try to wash it off, this stays with you for a day even if you try to get rid of it :)))

angelicaoung

This fragrance was all I would wear as a young woman in my 20s. Loved it so much. The ginger lily notes and the lush greenness of this scent was addictive to me. Unique.

I think I aged out of it. Would still pick up a bottle but I don’t see it around as much. I see from the other reviews though that it is still available and very inexpensive besides!

Neverapeoplepleaser

Wow. This is such a blast from the past for me. My Dad, (no longer of this mortal coil) bought this for me from the Duty Free on the ferry, on of our many trips to France when I was about 10 years old. Bizarre choice for a child, but hey, the 90's were wild! I loved it then and still do now. Stumbled across it on Amazon for an insulting amount of £11. (This used to be mega expensive!) It is a fantastic example of a strong aldehydic floral. Ginger, ylang, tuberose, hyacinth, ginger lily, patchouli, sandalwood and musk. On opening I really get the ylang and tuberose, which dries down to the sandalwood and definitely the ginger lily. Not too much patchouli for me, at all. Super strong even in the EDT, wouldn't even bother with the EDP! Happy, mature, sophisticated, calming.

Bottle and packaging you can feel is expensive, cannot believe its now so cheap. Definitely an insult to a wonderful perfume I'd expect to pay around 5 or 6 times as much for. Give it a try!

sakecat22

I get a strong ylang-ylang and lily top and heart with bits of stone fruit to sweeten it. When the fun, floral top and heart disappears, when I can smell anything, it's like someone licked me. Thankfully, I don't get pickles on my skin. The ylang-ylang somewhat overpowers the rest of the bouquet. Unfortunately (and dangerously), I'm anosmic to the base.

I've had to wear this multiple times to get a bead on how I feel about this. Likely lovely on the right skin and with someone who digs ylang-ylang essential oil and wants something more complex and/or has a nose that can easily smell the rest of the bouquet. For me, I have other florals I'd rather grab.

Supersmelle

The Short: I like this fragrance. Hi end floral. Great performer. It is beautiful in cold/cool weather.

The Long: I like this fragrance for its heady florals. It is a massive bouquet; it fills the room and is notable. Lots of white and purple blooms with freshness all around. It is not indolic like a lot of white floral fragrances. The Hyacinth and Iris are wonderful in this. I get little to no musk or amber. So it won't turn into a sugar scent after an hour. It is very clean and very much a fine soap or lotion scent. I love it for the performance. It lasts an eternity and has great sillage. Not an everyday scent for me but, lovely.

It is as classy and stylish as the person is wearing it. This is both beautiful and powerful.

scatteredshowers

The price on this is insane given the intensity of the projection and longevity. I can actually taste it in the back of my throat if I spray it too high up on my chest; I can see why this scent is polarizing, being so strong. If you dislike it, you'll *really* dislike it. Fortunately for me, I like it. It's very cold and clean, a great scent for cool weather when it won't assault the people nearby. Iris and hyacinth are the strongest for me, standing out on a background of pure "white" - I can't distinguish tuberose from orange blossom or jasmine, they all blend together in pretty harmony. Both Cabotine and Solinotes Cotton Blossom fall into the category of what I consider lotion scents. Not quite soapy, but clean and creamy. I really enjoy it, it just takes a light touch. Very easy to overspray.

beta-ionone

Totally agree with user named Truffles. Smells like public bathroom soap or deodorizer. Because of that, I give it an association with roadside truck stop bathrooms.

Bought this from TJMaxx untested because I saw the bottle on here and thought it looked interesting and the notes are kind of 'green' so I figured I would give it a whiff. After I bought it and took the clear wrapper off I got an immediate smell of pickles! I don't know what floral note that is but I know from a DNA test that I lack an snp for a gene for detecting floral fragrance chemicals. I also sense this pickle note in higher end fragrances like my boyfriend's favorite Versace Eros Pour Femme (on the dry down) and my favorite Dyptique Philosykos (the pickle scent goes away within the first minute). He doesn't smell pickles in this or Eros so I know that pickle note is actually a floral scent so that can explain why half of the reviews for this fragrance are negative and then the other half are positive.

When I first spray it, it smells like a dated perfume from the 80s but mellows out into a fresh floral scent for a minute or two. For only a moment there is a green-ness to me that reminds me of the smell of grabbing a handful of clovers or wood-sorrels. Before I bought this I saw the bottle design on Fragrantica and I had actually hoped it had a hint of clover leaf in it so when I smelled the green notes I was excited. I wish it stayed green and leafy like that! I love that it's not super powdery and I almost considered spraying it on myself and using it as a summer scent but then the dry down with the animal notes throws off that freshness I liked. The animal notes smell awful like the microphone part of an old telephone that everyone has been breathing on. Too much indole, maybe? At lower concentration this smell goes away. I'm not a fan of animal notes but I get that some perfumes have it for the pheromones or whatever....

This one needs to be tested. Not sure if it's office friendly. Just imagine half the population you come across will interpret one of the components of the perfume as a pickle note. It goes away eventually, at lower concentrations. Keeping this just for the novelty of the bottle and maybe as an occasional bathroom spray. It really does have a beautiful floral smell but I think it needs to be diluted.

Fatima1219

This was a blind buy that I purchased for myself a couple months ago. Although, I have been seeing it around for many years, I never had the desire to purchase it until I started hearing rave reviews on YouTube! Not easily influenced, but decided to add Cabotine to my order, and was disappointed to say the least. I wore this on Saturday--to take the dogs to the vet and to go look at a car with my husband. I needed a powerhouse, yet something feminine with character--I chose Cabotine. Now, Cabotine is a powerhouse--a distinctive, floral fragrance. To my nose, it dries very powdery and light. But...this fragrance smells dated. It was released in 1990, but to my nose it smells like 1987! Also, it smells like something is missing. It just leaves more to be desired. Projection is great and the longevity is nice. My husband liked it, but to my nose it is only: OK.

ONE-CLASSIC-MAN

I bought the Eau de Parfum for my girlfriend - thanks to the good reviews below..
It is a female atomic bomb in a good way!
Hiachynth, rose and other flowers make a fantastic combination with a feminine smell!!
Performance is really good!
Overall Cabotine Gres Parfume is a rich fragrance which worth more than other a £100 perfumes.!
10 /10

shenamedel

Cabotine Gres is a giant Lily Of The Valley scent to me even if no Lily is mentioned in the notes. When Lily conquers the world 🌎...& Gorgeous sharp green notes as if fresh cut flowers are being collected to be put in a vase & enjoyed. Long lasting & projecting well all around you.

Skinterpreter

This is not a review (I already wrote one long time ago), but I've been wearing this perfume today and every time I have it on, I'm thinking to myself that this "behaves" like Extrait de Parfum concentration on me. I have a big bottle of this and I think it will last for centuries. Also, it has monstrous sillage. It's stronger than the sample of Baccarat Extrait de Parfum I own, and that one already lasts for ages. Maybe that's just mine experience, but I thought it would be nice to mention. :)
Also it's a nice aldehydic, but a little bit heavy floral, clean and soapy. It's autumn now but this perfume has definitely more of a springtime/summer vibe to it.

Madyana

I'm not particularly fond of soapy scents, but Cabotine is just fascinating. Its essence is that bubbly and caramelly, airy and clean, playful and elegant at the same time. The scent is not even terribly strong, but just right for layering all the fruits and flowers that need more texture and longevity. A happy little bottle of asparagus.💚

XOXO_marcel

A soapy, fatty, almost aldehydic scent. Very rich and intense. It reminds me a lot of sunscreen lotion. Very pretty, but I would only consider wearing this in the summer. It seems like it would feel out-of-place in any other season. Definitely a casual daytime scent.

mhubbard1961

Screechy white florals. Not much like Tender Poison. Not my thing. To be fair, I don't wear TP that often although I still have a couple of vintage bottles. Cheap enough probably a safe blind buy.

truffles

Got a sample of Cabotine in the post. Sprayed on my hands, not expecting much. 'Wow, this is fkg gorgeous!'
However, the sparkling top notes soon disappeared to leave an insistent heart note that I perceive as 'lavatorial'.
It makes me think of public toilets, and some sort of cleaning agent meets floor smell.
This is what remained for the whole of the dry down .
HOWEVER, call me frivolous but I've now ordered a bottle, because it's really really cheap and I love the look of the bottle!
Despite the strange note, I do like (the rest of) Cabotine.
Who knows, maybe my nose was strange that night, or the bottle might smell slightly different.
There are so many in this line, I wouldn't mind trying the rest.
Edit: I've tried a spray on my neck now - whooaaa!
I had to wash it off, nuclear strength, cloying and inescapable.
I'm going to try it sprayed behind the knees and see what that's like.
Edit: tried it behind the knees now, definitely more wearable.
But - UHOH - I'm getting an uncomfortable 'shades of aftershave' vibe.
In fact, I think I've got Cabotine pinned- to me is a 'green aquatic' and that's veering into dodgy territory to me, I can't stand Cool Water, which this 'almost' is reminding me of.
Edit, few days later; Well, I've tried with this, sorry but after the initial blast, most of the wear is bad cheap aftershave to my nose, with a finishing flourish of stale lager and there's something in it too that just smells very fake and unnatural and unhealthy - off to the charity shop it goes!

sravz

This is a big no for this generation, see the notes and imagine the confusion of smells and strong odor!
My friend had it and i was glad she stopped wearing it!

Gyps

Not my usual cup of tea, I usually wear chypre or amber fragrances. At the price point you can’t go wrong and this will be great for summer. Reminds me of Tendre Poison.

Edit: At the dry down there’s a really off note. I can’t put my finger in it but it’s really rank. Might be the civet?

kl99

90s botteled. Stop.
(Joyfull scent)

villiruusut

I was afraid to try this but once I had it, I absolutely love it! It's such a happy and carefree scent - maybe even little reckless. Green, fruity, floral and a lot brighter than Dior Tendre Poison, which I would describe as a tiny bit spicier, yet more subdued. Some people think it smells like cheap shampoo but that just smells like cleanliness to me - fresh out of the shower and raring to go.

Mooniq

I found a Cabotine Edp for a superbargin, Its a really nice everyday-scent. 1 spray goes a long way. And on my skin I think Cabotine is a twinsister with Dior Tendre Poison.

Grenouille's_cave

I love the bottle and love the idea of this, I blind bought after reading great reviews, it just smells like cheap shampoo from the 90s, very strong. I bought in the summer and had to scrub. Trying again in the autumn and dislike it less, I’m enjoying how punchy it is. Maybe everything smells better in the autumn. I hope it keeps growing on me. Thankfully it was cheap so worth a try either way.

soniamcalear

This is a Winter Perfume. Beautiful Soapy Scent that holds up in Cold Whether. I never discovered the beauty in this scent until this Fall then fell madly in love with this!!! I’ve had this bottle for a couple years now. Each and every scent is SPECIFIC to a Season and I guess I never tried this on in the Fall, I always assumed it was a Sumner Scent and didn’t care for this scent at all. I could not have been more wrong. This scent is DIVINE!!!!! But only in Cold Seasons.

Selfscentred

Another truly polarising scent, but one I’ve worn with pleasure back then and one of the most complimented over the years. I discovered Cabotine in a hotel room back in London in ‘92 where I was employed as a maid in a 5 star hotel. There was a regular american guest from the film industry, who always had lots of perfumes on her shelves and that’s how I got to smell Cabotine the first time. It was so very different from most other frags at the time being and hit us all with a blast of honeyed ginger. I loved it in an instant and went straight out to buy myself a bottle. In-expensive as it was, it become a stable in my collection and I wore it quite often for a few years. It was a fun-loving fragrance, always sure to be the center of attention at the party with its instant feel-good effect and huge projection and sillage. Alas, that high-pitched ginger was also far too screechy for me in the long run and I was in heaven once Dior’s Tendre Poison came along, being a far more subtle take on the theme. I hardly ever wear Cabotine today, but still treasure Tendre Poison, though the prices are sky-rocketing, discontinued as it is. Some would say “just wear Cabotine instead”, but it simply won’t do, knowing Tendre is still around. Luckily, I found a full bottle at a very good price last year and was given another for christmas by my boyfriend, who loves it as well. But for anyone in need of something instantly uplifting, Cabotine is a sure bet, cheap and cheerful as it is. Not a safe blind buy though and I strongly recommend testing to know if you can keep up with it. Also try testing both edt and edp side by side if possible, since they are different in the dry down with the edp being calmer, richer and less overtly soapy.

ajrose

I 100% agree with SummerRose's review below. I've been curious to smell this and I am glad I have but I don't think this one is for me. I can tell it is a quality perfume but it just doesn't agree with me and I will find a good home for it. For reference, I do really like other florals (YSL, Oscar de la Renta) but alas, something in the great Cabotine just does not agree with me. I tried the EDP, for reference.

auroramaria

This is such a lovely floral scent so affordable too! Some people will say it smells outdated but Cabotine does not follow trends. It is still a low cost best seller for a reason, the EDT will last forever on my skin leaving such a soft, floral slightly powdery aroma. The opening is a bit in your face but let it calm down and it will deliver loveliness and elegance.I would say only people who enjoy a semi sweet floral will be happy with it. Also the bottle is retro pretty and very pleasing to handle .I scored a gift set with 100ml EDT and 200ml shower gel for 15 Euro and the whole experience with Cabotine is very pleasurable

Laoire

I have always had a bottle of the Cabotine edt in my collection and just recently decided to get the edp, both are very affordable. I sprayed the edt on one wrist and the edp on the other and I have to say that I adore the edp and much prefer it to the edt. It is much more refined, deep and demure (if that could be said of Cabotine). It doesn't last as long but it is not as headache inducing on me as the edt.

After watching Super Dacob review this perfume on YouTube I went in for a blind buy of the Edp.
It arrived today and I'm wearing it as we speak. The weather is hot, it's a humid summer and I feel so fresh, clean and happy. I really really like this scent.
Somehow it reminds me of Jean Louis Scherrer 2 which I don't like and weirdly enough Coco by CHANEL, another one that I struggle to understand.
But I gotta say this one beats them both in terms of the joy and freshness it gives me, and at that price it's simply irresistible.

A.J.lamp

This is a strong Jasmine and Ylang-Ylang with Cassia scent. Tendre Poison by Dior is the calculated, balanced, and refined version of Cabotine, maybe that's why they're somewhat similar. A couple of spray will suffice.

Kharmynn

I really dislike this. To me it smells almost identical to Lanvin Arpege, which I also dislike. I've come to the conclusion that I can't do any scents with coriander. Either my skin amps that up, or my nose is super sensitive to it, but it gets to the point where it's almost all I can smell. It takes on a cumin type quality that I can't stand.

I see it's ranked as very similar to Tendre Poison by many people, but they smell nothing alike to me. I have and enjoy Tendre Poison, which doesn't have coriander. I guess it just goes to show how much noses and scent opinions can vary.

Eveningrose

I blind bought this one day and it easily became a hit in my life ! All of my family members ended up getting it and their co workers started getting it. It spread like wildfire across our social circle . It is an impressive fragrance for a great price . It smells like soapy and floral but not in a bad way. It projects like crazy and everyone can tell u walked in to the room with this. I wouldn’t overspray this but it is a gem in my eyes .

jay.shouse

Absolutely “Gorgeous” I wear this at least once a week. I mix it up. This is such a beast, I spray like 4 or 5 sprays, I use vintage Edt. It’s absolutely stunning! I will always wear this. Beyond Gorgeous! I will say this if you find Touch by Fred Hayman, to be weak try Cabotine, it’s a greener extremely stronger dupe. Hardly ever does one perfume smell like another, Well Touch and Cabotine smell so much a like, rather strange. Lol When I wear Cabotine, I smell so much greenness and ginger. I adore this smell. Definitely a (Masterpiece), 10/10 for me. Perfection in a bottle😜

cjoudas

Good fragrance is everywhere, and I absolutely love being surprised by a cheapy. I spent about $8 on Cabotine, and I'd do it again- it's a fresh, pretty floral that gets me more compliments than anything else I wear. It wears linear and performs well on my skin. I'm not always in the mood for a springy green floral, but when I am, Cabotine is an easy reach.

Not For Me

The Positves: This is a unique fragrance with great silliage and outstanding longevity. One spray is all you need and you can smell it for hours. It is also very good value for money. My children smelt it and liked it. The scent itself is not bad.

The Negatives: I would describe Cabotine EDP as a heady, green, spicy floral with a vintage touch. I was excited to try it after the reviews and so bought a bottle but unfortunately it is just not for me. I think this is the only perfume, I've ever bought that has given me a headache after just 1 spray. When I washed my arm twice, I could still smell the fragrance for the entire day. I think the scent profile is a bit dated and it does not suit me. I don't own a lot of green perfumes but the ones I do own I love which include Aura, Florabotanica and Decadence. Cabotine although green is just a bit too floral me.

However, someone who likes chypre fragrances or green perfumes may enjoy this beast. My bottle found a new home with someone who really appreciate it.

Yes Malena

I have a bottle of the EDT and a bottle of the EDP, both newer bottles. The EDT has a more lively feel to it, and it might highlight the hyacinth a bit more. EDT's dry-down is so pretty, and I notice the lightness and dryness of the notes, like the sandalwood.

I notice the plum more in the EDP; maybe the black currant is more noticeable in the EDP as well, and she is overall a bit richer, with a sweeter, fruitier dry-down. I couldn't choose between them, because I like them both so much. Possibly, just possibly, I am more loyal to the EDT.

venussansfurs

Interesting fragrance. Starts out dense, sweet and green with hyacinth as the main floral mixed with some tuberose and freesia. Middle phase is shampoo. The dry down is heavy with ylang-ylang and civet and it takes on an odd shoe/furniture polish-like vibe (I'd advise to steer clear of this if you don't like civet as it's very strong here). I can see the comparisons with Tendre Poison at this point...it's slightly similar minus the rosewood, though TP doesn't have the weirdness this does.

I've given it an ok overall as I prefer the beginning to the ending. No experience with the current version but the vintage EDP I have has quality ingredients and doesn't smell synthetic (it's not turned, just strange). It must have its fans as it's still in production and has oodles of flankers. Would suggest for spring days or summer nights and to use a light hand as it's quite potent. Lasts well over 12 hours for me.

jeannebelmondo

Another classic in the "expensive hotel soap" vein (what I call a fresh jasmine and tuberose-heavy fragrance). Like what laundry detergent should smell like if it wasn't using such harsh and screechy fragrance oils. Luckily, it's pretty dewy and transparent in its soapiness for its time, and is not the typical 80s 90s powder bomb. In fact I don't get talcum or baby powder feelings from it whatsoever. There is a plethora of notes in this but it smells more simple and linear than the notes would suggest.

As a florist it does smell a bit like funeral floral arrangements to me but I'm happy to say it's not in the usual chlorophyll screechy way. A must try if you love a rich and fragrant tuberose, and you probably should steer clear if you don't.

blue_roses

Another fragrance "time machine". Some elements within Cabotine bring me back to what department stores smelled like in the late 80s / early 90s. Perhaps it's the floral aldehyde that was so popular at the time.
I have a soft spot in my heart for retro green florals like Chanel No. 19. I still wear Jacomo's "Silences" from time to time.
Cabotine definitely has that soapy and fresh element going for it, but there's also an awkwardness about some of the notes that are most obvious on this one.
It can definitely come off as very dated, like how "Youth Dew" and "White Linen" seem dated.
On me, there is no sweetness, no "fresh cut grass" green elements. On me it's very dry, sharp, and herbal. There are also some animalistic notes (perhaps it's the modern "civet") that present rather boldly.
She's a 1990s era "long jacket with short skirt" suit that some women wore to work back in those days, or a crisp polo shirt with "mom jeans". It's a very grownup fragrance that might be better suited to a woman who wears a more classic wardrobe, more buttoned up.
While do like it, I'm not sure the best occasions to wear it. Might be a bit bold for daytime, better suited for date night or a professional / work situation where you need an extra boost of confidence.

Cabotine--I have mixed feelings, but I think I like you!

For context, I don't have many super floral or green scents in my collection, so I'm a little out of my comfort zone. I blind-bought this at Ross for $10, ready to try something different, and seeking a challenge. I must admit, I was also really drawn in by the broccoli hat.

Before you buy, be aware that Cabotine is very heady and a bit piercing; I can see that not working for a decent number of folks, especially for those who are not into fragrances in general. As a result, I don't feel comfortable wearing it in every environment; I kinda have to think about it first...

It is easy to overdo--I would suggest 1 or 2 sprays, max!

Now, it seems that there are so many notes here, and I am afraid that I won't be able to describe them all that well in great detail. Perhaps, a more trained nose could. However, I will say... in addition to the obvious bouquet of numerous florals, I do feel that I get the ginger, green cassia, black currant, and citrus, at various times. I also get some slightly animalic notes, and what to me, smells like a lovely honey. Some of these come and go, dancing all the while, as they bubble to the surface. Cabotine is quite an experience... it is quite lively! Oddly enough, I find myself using it before bed... I guess that's because it sort of distracts me from whatever is on my mind, sort of like a bedtime story.

All in all, I am glad that I decided to give this one a chance. Even though it wasn't love at first sniff, my appreciation for it has surely grown, and I am thankful to have it in my collection. I would also recommend it, as long as you have some idea what you are getting into! :-)

Ariell28

I don't understand how the combination of all those good smelling notes can create such an awful perfume. It was a blind buy, and I gave it away to a person who liked it so much that wore it constantly, so I had to ask her not to wear it around me:)

tresi

If you love shower fresh, herbal, green, soapy, aldehydic powerhouse scents, then this could be for you.
I think it could be a great choice for spring & summer when you want smell clean & fresh all day.
Go easy, seriously, one spray will carry you through the day! Too much & it might be headache inducing.
This reminds me of Worth by Je Reviens. It gives me vintage vibes, I like that.

Skinscents4Fusspots

This is a very strong and slightly sweet Jasmin to my nose. There are obviously all sorts of notes along side it but I think the overall effect is gingery Jasmin. It put me in mind of Lust by LUSH but it’s fresher and greener! It is equally strong and therefore very overpowering for me personally. But wow, if you like Jasmin and super strong and long lasting scents then this is so much bang for your buck!

Nonosebarred

This is the WORST perfume I have ever smelled in my life. I can't even spray it again for fear of being nauseous. It smells like some industrial old school cleaning product. It is just HORRIBLE. It is strong, pungent, and ghastly. I hate hate hate this.

SweetJhane

I’ve been venturing into floral perfumes. They are a huge departure from the chypres and powdery woody ambers I have loved all my life, but I’m really enjoying these little olfactory forays! Cabotine Gres EDP is the most recent venture, a blind buy based on Fragrantica reviews. Thank you - It’s an amazing perfume and I love it! The flowers are sweet and warm - almost honeyed - and the overall impression is enveloping, complex and rich. Very feminine, well blended, structured, very pleasing and oddly satisfying. It smells like an expensive perfume and performs like expensive ones should, with 8-10 hour longevity and moderate/strong sillage. It is actually like a vintage perfume in all these respects. Depending on the weather, longevity can exceed 12 hours. It’s astounding that something this wonderful is so incredibly inexpensive - it’s like upside down world or something. I am quite enjoying the good mood and emotional lift this perfume gives me. I appreciate the reviews that brought me to this great buy!

Elsee

Loved "alphairone" review. So so true. This oldie is a conundrum. It smells great but I can't seem to wear this out of the house as it seems dated. And honestly, I don't usually care about that. But this one seems as though it would not be good to wear to work or be stuck in an elevator with it on. If that makes sense!

It's a very impressive scent and fun to own. I remember this being quite popular in the early 90's. It's a must try for everyone and quite different from everything else.

Thank you for that great review alphairone!

alphairone

Cheap and cheerful Cabotine (EDT) with its handsome bottle and broccoli hat, is a succulent, green floral radiant with effervescent aldehydes and a panoply of florals, including hyacinth. I also pick up a good dose of both coriander and ginger lily (as opposed to ginger, as appears on the notes pyramid). With my familiarity with the scent of ginger lily through its absolute, they reproduced its essence quite remarkably. Ginger Lily (Hedychium coronarium) grows naturally in the Himalaya regions of India and Nepal. With hints of honey and melon, there is this somewhat overripened seductiveness to it, and its contrast with the alipathic aldehydes and green notes makes the top through the heart unique to Cabotine.

For all of its spring effulgence, the florals are extended into the base by a civet that is ever so subtle but present enough so that Cabotine is not resolutely clean, almost imparting a certain buttery impression into its dry down. However, Cabotine retains a translucent, atmospheric character into its dry down.

For something so affordable and in current formulation, I am impressed with its quality—there was definitely care and attention to preserve the integrity of this 32 year old release (Gres releases are now in the care of Lalique Beauty).

Skinterpreter

Very green and soapy. :) Very flowery.
The opening is quite sharp and cold, it reminds me a little bit of Arpege by Lanvin (it's quite indolic-smelling, I guess?). Jasmine, tuberose, a little bit of grass... And lots of flower petals. Full-blown blooming garden mode. :D
Also, I think it smells better on clothes. The dry down there is slightly sweet (yet still soapy) and it smells like you've just stepped out of the shower. Quite pretty, fresh.
It's like when you have a big bouquet of freshly picked flowers...
Very potent, too, be careful when spraying. Overall, the green bottle matches the scent perfectly. :) nice spring scent. :)

LightOfJoy

This isn't a full review, but I smelled the sprayer of this and this beautiful bright and full buttery tuberose was off the charts gorgeous. I thought for sure it would be a winner for me, and then I got it on my hands when smelling. The smell was just too overpowering, and I decided I would just enjoy this lady from afar. If you like beasts and large projecting full florals, this is for you. Gorgeous.

eau de dosa

Soapy, floral. This reminds me of church! Lol I like it but not enough to purchase, even at its affordable price. I was tempted to add it to my collection but I don’t think I’d ever wear it

Aleauv

Review for the EDP
after reading the comparison by Miguel Matos and watching Super Dacob's Review I blind bought a 100mL bottle. The tuberose is sweet and creamy, aldehides soapy and clean and I detect a ginger ale note , it is such a lovely combo , sweet and green, fizzy and soapy, playful yet elegant. I get so many complements whenever I wear it, 5 of my friends bought it after smelling it on me ( a record) is just so so lovely, green happiness in a bottle.

PoppyBee

After watching a YouTube review on Cabotine de Gres by ‘Super Dacob’ and reading countless reviews I decided to plunge for a 100ml EDP. With an extremely small price tag of £10.10 from Notino.co.uk what would I have to loose? Granted, this scent will not be to everyone’s taste as the first impressions can be very green, bitter with an ammonia undertone which quickly disappears. If you can get past this initial blast the dry down, which takes around 30 minutes, is just amazing! Soft, floral with a futuristic edge I haven’t encountered before so if you’re looking for a scent to stand out in the crowd then this is it!
I’ve still to put it to the ‘wear in public’ test but reading reviews on this it is sure to turn a few heads (and hopefully for the right reasons lol).
UPDATE: Great tip, if this fragrance is too strong and burns out the inside of your nostrils (which I must admit it did start to with me lol) spray on pulse points away from your face e.g. behind your knees, I know, sounds bizarre but it works, or on your elbows. Steer clear of your wrists and neck 👍🏻

swedishmilk15

Review is for the astonishingly affordable EDT. Another Grès I thought I hated, but then the weather turned, and WOW! Humidity seems to let the aldehydes out to play. Where I got disproportionate tuberose and vanilla before, I now get effervescent green aldehydes, juicy, succulent, fleshy-petaled florals, and the CORIANDER!! MmMmMmMMM I am SWOONING over the coriander.

Fresh and soapy but ALIVE, not sterile. There's a warm earth feeling. Creamy sandalwood and dry cedar. I see civet in the notes but it's not strong, just enough to bring the flowers to life. I'm wondering now if I should've shelled out a few more bucks for the EDP, anyone have any thoughts on that?

Tokyo Dad

I had a girlfriend that would wear this and not much more in the 80's. It's a classy smell that takes me back 30 years. Our relationship burned brightly for a number of years, but at that age, nothing was forever and we broke up. I still like to sneak a smell of this when visiting the department stores in Ginza and it takes me straight back to that time of long summer evenings and unprotected sex. Miss you Dave!

Yes Malena

I love to wear Cabotine SO much. Thank you, Jean Claude Delville, and Gres! I have never worn her in the hottest part of summer, but all other times are perfectly great with her. Beautiful, spicy tuberose; a powdery sandalwood; smears of freesia-infused iris; slightly skanky cassis; ylang that is pungent and yummy; more and more stuff that is gorgeous. That spice/tuberose mix, just GLUED together and always present. Ugh. Love.

taryn renee

Also a blind buy for me. I am very much a fragrance novice.

I applied conservatively yesterday, twice, 7 hours apart. I was emotionally a bit stressed yesterday, and slightly more active than usual (in a stressed way). I think it affected how my body responded to it. After the initial burst of weirdness (possibly the black currant, which can have a skunky juicy smell), I got what I percieved as lily of the valley. I can only assume I was just mistaking the jasmine with some green notes. It remained this way for an hour, and then the whole experience became very confusing for me. I would get a whiff of something darkish and incensy in the air (pleasant) but when I would smell my skin to confirm, it was just the green jasmine. When I reentered the room I initially sprayed in, it was still in the room's air 7 hours later, but not on my skin. When I reapplied I sprayed on skin and clothes. The fragrance continued to release bursts off of me into the air, but the complex and lovely fragrance would not match what was on my skin, which was boring green jasmine to my nose. On my clothes I became even more confused because of the similarities to eden cacheral. I suspect i had lingering eden on the clothes i was wearing, but who knows.

Today I gave it another shot and sprayed generously. This yielded sneezes and allergic reactions for a good 30 minutes. I'm a fool. I didn't get that initial skunkiness I had yesterday. I did get about 2 hours of green jasmine, then green wet jasmine with incense and a bit of warmth. Even though I really really wanted to love this, it is just ok for me. I am going to try again when spring weather returns.

Ticketgirl

I bought this blind, needing a few dollars to qualify for free shipping. My first interaction with this perfume was a test on paper. UGH! I thought it was dreadfully animalic, among other undefined unpleasantries. But, I dutifully put it in my rotation to give it a fair shot. Today was Skin Test Day.

Boy, was I wrong! Turns out, I love Cabotine. The very first top notes do present with that dirty smell I first detected, which is really strange, since one would expect it in the base notes, but it comes right at you! The dirtiness is very fleeting. Then, those gorgeous florals start cycling through. Love, love, love them! I started cautiously with one spray to each wrist. Good decision! The stuff is potent, and I’ve got the EDT. I can imagine that the EDP would blast me out of the house!

I am confused, however. The descriptive paragraph spends a bit of time on the development and inclusion of the ginger lily note. Yet…ginger lily is not mentioned in the notes pyramid. Maybe whoever made the pyramid didn’t read the paragraph.

In any event, I’m happy with this little blind buy. As strong as it is, my 100ml bottle is going to last me a while. And that’s fine with me.

Carolann59

I wanted to buy Tendre Poison but it cost too much now and then I saw that 719 people compared this to it! So, I bought this as a blind buy on Ebay after reading LaLaPop75 with the hope that this did not, after all, contain civet in the notes. And I am SO HAPPY that I did! I love this gorgeous scent and I can see why it was so popular. Luckily it smells great on me (if Civet had been involved I would be smelling like a dead rat right now! LOL) and it really is all about body chemistry in the end, I have found. I am always on the look out for green florals since I live in a mostly warm/hot climate and I hope I can wear this in hot weather as well as the frigid day we are having now. so..maybe this frag will be seasonless... fingers crossed!

So,the opening is fresh spring green and flowers and I did thankfully detect the black currant which I love, then after 10 minutes or so, the middle is like a warm powdery iris/violet purple flower vibe and now the dry down is just soothing, warmed up with the woods which round out the florals. LOVE LOVE LOVE I don't claim to have a "nose" like some very lucky people but my husband also said it smells good so it must be okay because most of the time he barely has an opinion other than "meh" or "it's okay" LOL ...

Furs&FrAGErence

I adore this fragrance. Smells so nostalgic, tween 90’s. I don’t even care that I’m in my 30’s! Lol
Summer months it brought me so much glee. It is synthetic indeed. Not in a room spray kind of way. Very interesting and French. The civet dry down floral is so oddly addictive.
This whole line, house of Gres is very affordable.

Mashaiil

This perfume smells like grandma's pure lemony jasmine perfume that's gone bad, very unpleasant nor tolerable. I couldn't detect any other notes from the list above

Jac401

To all those who find Cabotine green a little 'too much', try a layer of Cabochard EDP 20129 on top. It makes a very agreeable perfume mash-up.

kalhie

First of all, I am certainly not an expert in perfumes, just an enthusiast. That being said, after reading the reviews, I thought this would be a safe blind buy to add to my vintage collection. But I must warn you: it is not. Surely in the long history of this perfume the formula changed, but all I can smell is a heavy and dense flower explosion, followed by a strong incense-like heart, and the base is very soapy, but soap-kept-by-grandma-in-a-box-for-years soapy. The longevity is amazing; I couldn't take it off after washing it with soap! I must concede that. Just really not my cup of tea. So my advice is that you try it first before blind buy it.

Tavakkol1

I cant believe this perfume has such a low rating. It is such a nice perfume, love in a green bottle. Sweet and floral, heavenly and kind, caringand cozy. Wish I could describe it better, very long lasting too. Compared to Dior tender poison, it is sharper, more floral and more long lasting. They are not similar scents but give you similar feelings.

ninabarr

Not my cup of tea... I thought it would have some green but to me it's just the 80s flower bomb.
The lasting power and sillage are insane..

Enrium

Cabotine has long intrigued me. I have heard a lot about this polarising bargain classic, and finally bought a small bottle - modern, presumably reformulated EDT - to test. I love Grès Cabochard - an excellent leather scent, also cheap as chips - so I was keen to try Cabotine, its sister (daughter?) scent. The little green bottle is kitschy cute, and I love the parsley-like lid, but it doesn't reflect the white floral-aldehydic bomb inside. Cabotine received a scathing review in Luca Turin's book, yet many scenthusiasts love it. I really wanted to like it. Unfortunately, Cabotine is not for me.

Cabotine opens with strong, sharp aldehydes - soapy and fresh, but headache-inducing. It develops into a heady, white floral scent, with hyacinth most prominent initially. As the white floral accord develops, tuberose and ylang ylang become the most dominant notes. Clean, chemical jasmine and powdery heliotrope are detectable too. It is overpowering and heavy - a synthetic bomb of a scent. The sheer amount of notes listed makes me think "hot mess", and many are undetectable amidst the chemical haze.

The drydown is the nicest phase of this scent. It becomes soapy, with a clean musk accord softening the bombastic white florals. There is a definite cassis note, which is pleasant and unexpected. It is slightly woody, with a hint of sweet amber in there too. It fades fairly quickly, which comes as a surprise considering the huge white floral accord. Sillage is fleetingly strong, and longevity is just moderate, fading after several hours. It improves significantly as it develops, but the allure of Cabotine is lost on me. Definitely polarising. 2/5.

Lemxx

I bought this masterpiece just today and I must tell you it’s fantastic!!! Opening is quite strong green and heady floral also it reminds me of a chemical cleaning products. But just wait for the drydown it is still holding the floral notes but it’s getting more round. I can definitely feel black currant and especially amber!! Such a beautiful, classy scent with very good performance!!

CindiBurrus

Cabotine, a super classy juice in a superb classic as well as cute bottle and presentation. There is a specific distinct feel to this with soft, feminine, happy and amazing quality scent. This one can be worn in all seasons and occasions. Price is super cheap for such a masterpiece. The spirit of this magic scent is exquisite, captivating yet gentle with floral notes dominating in background. Whenever I wear it, it relaxes me and reminds me of my childhood days. This would fetch you some compliments as there is light green floral atmosphere with the fruity notes’ hue. Performance is strong too and this is something which could be a blind buy and a good gift for someone too. I strongly recommend it!

LaLaPop75

Ok, the notes here on Fragrantica are a hot mess. I have a vintage tester and the notes are on the bottle. Top notes: tangerine from Calabria, ginger, ylang. Middle notes: ginger Lily, wild hyacinth, tuberose. Base notes: musk from Tibet, blackcurrant. Beautiful vintage perfume. I hope this helps everyone...

eyesloveyou

could not be more pleased with my bottle of cabotine ♥️

lady_ireth264

For EDP
This is very beautiful. I cannot make out which is what, so superbly blended.

The top notes reminding me of Amarige, Cabotine is the pretty younger sister.
It opens fresh and lovely, the lightness and grace of spring. The middle notes classy soapy. A joy to experience throughout.
Doesn't feel old at all. Very youthful and innocent.
Gonna be my newest staple for green perfumes.

Twentzel

Don't be fooled by its green bottle.
It's a strong white floral vintage fragrance.
Beautiful, but be careful and have a light hand when wearing it.
It's an Eau de Toilette but as strong as an Eau de Parfum 💮

Yimyim2525

From amazing reviews here I thought I give this one a try( as it’s so cheap ) it’s not something that I would buy if I have test from a shop because I will judge it from my first impression but when you blind buy you give a few chances . First blast is super strong can easily put people off I think but when it’s settled turning to creamy floral the most smooth beautiful florals will make you feel beautiful and alluring. Colder weather perfume for sure I think will be too much in the heat.

MrsMRe

Cabotine is a gorgeous floral as long as you spray with a VERY light hand. It's fresh green almost-jasmine, but it's so well balanced that it's hard to pick out the individual notes. It smells like spring. But, seriously, spritz once gently into the air and walk under the mist and you'll be set. More than that and it's a whole different experience.

Yes Malena

This perfume really has it all, and such a pretty drydown. I love her.

Gorgeous! Gorgeous! Gorgeous! ☘🍀

If you love to have variety in your collection, Cabotine Grès is a MUST HAVE. She is lovely, classy, so so floral and green, but also woody and very soapy clean. Every stage of this perfume is stunning.

I finally got the courage to wear her out in public for the 1st time yesterday after secretly enjoying the EDP and EDT alone at home for about 3 years here and there when in the mood. Up till now I have only been enjoying her alone at home, because she's fairly loud, any time of year. Not in an obnoxious way (unless she offends you - she's not a safe blind buy) but very commanding, while keeping it classy. She's a nice treat before bed or company while cleaning or working in the garden. You won't feel alone. Nobody is going to stand by you and not smell this perfume though.. she is NOT quiet and NOT office safe at all.

If you are fussy about perfume, be sure to test her first. Otherwise, this was one of the BEST blind buys I've ever jumped into.. EDT and EDP are both slightly different while also being twins. Same bottle, though the edt lid is slightly lighter green and her scent is less boisterous and much more subtle. The EDP has a slightly more soapy "cologne-likeness" lingering in the background, without actually being one, which to me makes the EDP more unisex, if you're a man and wanting to try one of these. They're both so similar, but the EDT is slightly more feminine on the drydown, maybe. She seems to retain more floral in composition for longer, where EDP the wood and musk come out sooner, while remaining soapy clean floral. Someone else might say different.

I like to spray them both together because they are just different enough and I find them so complimentary to each other. They are wonderful on their own, but yesterday I sprayed them both together like I do here alone and went out into the "wilderness" with all the people (city, running around) in the dead heat of summer... and so many hours later, likely at least 3 or 4 hours.. a lady stopped my friend and I to ask who smelled so nice. My friend pointed and said, "definitely her..." (she's used to me wearing different perfume every day). So now I know they are safe to wear in public lol in summer and together, no less!
I never want to be without these two. Ever. 😍

I love to come here and read what you all have to say about Cabotine Grès, and I'm drawn here often to re-read her profile. She never gets old. Ughh... I just love her and her sister both (EDP & EDT) and I hope you do too. ❤ They are very affordable, so do try them both if you're curious or adventurous! Then come here and tell us about your experience with them, because some of us can't stop coming back for more! 😅 Oh, and don't forget to tell us EDT VS EDP!

If you don't like Cabotine Grès, don't give up on her. Keep going back. This was not a love at first test for me. Try her in public... I was scared to but have got compliments each time I did, by complete strangers who make a point to walk up and ask who smells so nice. This has happened several times now, long after I thought it had worn off. Give her time, she might grow on you.... She seems to be alive! ☘🍀😂

This stuff smells so good! The only problem for me is that it is about as floral a perfume as ever there was. I have no problems wearing this at home, and for me it's ideal to put on after bathing and enjoying it before going to bed. A friend of mine liked it, so I gave it to her. All $15 of it. (Hey, big spender!)

Being a guy, I had reservations about wearing Cabotine in public. Maybe ok if I sprayed very lightly, but then what's the point? I was attracted because of the green bottle, the coriander listed in the top notes, and I really think the cap is funny and cute.

I don't think you'll find many fragrances that offer better value. Highly recommended if you like a floral fragrance with a little bit of green, and not too heavy.

LesGirls

This is the first blind buy I've ever snagged purely for the bottle. It's almost squat in stature and it's quite quirky, with the floral arrangement cap that looks like a sprig of curly parsley from afar and the bubbly handwriting font on the glass. The shape and design of the bottle are a good preview for its contents. I am a big fan of fruity scents but I get none of that. On me it's a white floral blast all the way from start to finish, with a hint of green floral anchoring the whole thing. I can't wait to wear this next spring on a rainy, sixty degree April day. I suspect that's when it'll really pop.

I've been seeing Cabotine at the discount stores since early 2000 but never picked a bottle. Fast forward this year, it was recommended to me as I love white florals. I purchased a new formulation 50 ml edp bottle two weeks ago. On my initial spray, it transports me back to the late 80s when I used Tendre Poison. Indeed, Cabotine is TPs sister. The white florals really stood out; 3-5 spritz daily and lasts about 4-5 hours. I wish it has longer longevity on me. And yes, I wore it everyday since I got it and I am on the hunt for vintage formulations of both the edp and the edt. Its sillage is enormous. This could easily be my signature scent.

SallyGirl

Shit, I made a Huge Godzilla sized mistake today. Firstly let me say I really love Cabotine, she’s mature, beautiful and retains her charm throughout wear. I was looking at my collection this morning and there she was, looking very unassuming in her plain bottle…her cap reminds me of seeing a woman with her hair and makeup on point but then throwing on your sweats and calling it a day. I reached for her and sprayed 3 times. I hadn’t worn Cabotine in 3 years…I had forgotten the massive silage and lasting power of this bad ass B! Fast forward 3 hours and I am enveloped in a heady, all be it beautiful cloud of a headache inducing, borderline nauseous parade of flowers that frankly I can’t get enough of! I just took some Motrin and tylenol, but somehow the pulsating headache just might be worth it.
Buyer beware, don’t go ham with this!…also watch the temp outside. It’s going to be over 100deg here today. Moderate temps are best for wear.

Mona708

I managed to get a bottle of the EDP from najgirl. It’s a newer formulation (made in March 2020); it’s not too different than the EDT I tried earlier this year. It starts out a bit stronger, with less of a hairspray-like vibe, and projects a bit further. It also has a slightly longer lifespan. I also found the matching lotion and tried layering the perfume over it, but it doesn’t make much of a difference. Maybe an older formulation (at least pre-2010’s) of the EDP would perform better? As it is, it makes a pretty good casual scent; I wouldn’t mind wearing it to work or out running errands.

Angekkuma

This is so addictive and it transports me to a place of eternal spring mornings in childhood. A vintage masterpiece. I like to douse myself in this and go to sleep smelling it, it’s like a warm maternal hug full of love. Tender and living in a bubble of all things tinted green. One of my best blind buys

seamagik

I've been wearing Cabotine for almost a year and only liking it, trying to find its best. Now, here in these cool summer days and nights, I'm enjoying it at last. The opening is rather strong and harsh and it stays too strong for about 30 minutes. I decided it was too close to my nose as I usually spray on my neck and cleavage. Now I spray on my elbows. It's made all the difference.

After the initial harshness (can't avoid that) it settles into something very rich and playful. It reminds me of Poison but less serious, like you're dressed up but wearing trainers. I've never smelt Tendre Poison.

Breathed from further away like that the florals are buttery and the spices smoothed out. It started giving me Boucheron vibes in texture or atmosphere, they don't really smell alike. I'm totally enjoying it now. It lasts for ever and remains strong even into the drydown.

It's old school but seems younger or indeterminate. That said, I love old school so if you don't you should probably seek opinions elsewhere.

I admit, it was a blind buy. I was curious of the fragrance so appreciated and loathed at the same time. Sort of like the dearest Chanel No.5. I got two concentrations, EDP and EDT. I assumed, that's EDP I'm going to find more challenging, but boy, was I wrong!

Upon the first spray I detect faint reminiscent of soap from my childhood. It's not even the smell itself, but the memory it evokes, sniffing the bar of soap on a very close proximity. And this whimsical feeling lasts for a while. I can detect ylang-ylang and jasmine. Oh my, they are so lovely together!

Especially from distance, this is surprisingly modern. Maybe thanks to orange flower and cassia? The dry down is musky and cedar. If not over sprayed, projection is rather moderate, with a time getting more to the skin scent that lasts and lasts. I must admit, I am impressed.

I started with the analogy to No. 5 and now I'd like to go back to this beauty again. When I think Cabotine, I think No. 5 because they're like exact opossites. Where Cabotine is casual and inviting, No. 5 is colder and more distant. They both serve their purpose. When I want to feel I own it, I choose No. 5. It boosts self-esteem and confidence, whereas Cabotine is perfect when I want to enjoy the moment. I think that a very chic and classy or maybe avangarde girl in her 20s could pull it (do you, young people, still use the word avangarde?). It's not a scent for everyone, but then again, how many people fancy an old memory of a bar of soap?

Safe blind buy? Deninitely not. But, please, keep an open mind when you approach Cabotine. Maybe you'll be as blown away as I am.

I haven't smelled Tendre Poison by Dior since early 2000's, when I was just a kid. My mom had a bottle of it and let me play around with it, since I was already interested in fragrances. I bought this because I wanted to smell Tendre Poison again.

To me, it smells just like it. It smells just like my mom. Makes me want to cry, this is so sentimental and special to me. I'll probably buy another small edp one, so that I can store it away for the future.

Coquita

Cabotine smells an awful lot like Tendre Poison but is way less animalic on my skin. It smells like a fruit salad made with peaches, blackcurrant and plums, all very sweet and juicy, and then topped with a bit of orange honey. Regarding the flower aspect, the only one I can smell is tuberose, which is very pleasant and green. The age of this perfume is noticeable, as you won't smell a lot of people wearing this on the street, but it doesn't feel dated. Instead, it's a pleasant warm weather vintage perfume that projects like crazy, and it's a bang for the buck.

Stillmagnolia

Whoo-hoo, something that works with my chemistry and is a cheapie! And has floral notes that never go too sweet or powdery on me. Honestly, while there are some scents I much prefer, I like most all the categories, it’s just a matter of what works on my skin. And you know how you sometimes recognize a perfumer’s DNA? It took me a bit, but eventually was like, “oh yeah…… I had Orange Blossom (Jo Malone) years ago, and I can tell they are distant cousins.”
Plus, the slightly soapy bit is fabulously refreshing/resetting when my nose has had too many days of dearly-loved spicy scents or just needs a boost from street scents cooked in from the summer sun. And might be top choice if needed to go onto subway platform, whoof.
Admittedly, green floral is one of my fav categories, I grew up on Lauren. Would I wear this everyday, to everything? No. Just because I like to mix it up. But I could. Do I wish it lasted just a little longer? Yes. I am salt-deficient, no matter how much I eat, so I can sorta say this is kinda like getting a saline infusion. It’s refreshing. It’s almost like Amy Adams in one of those princess movies but wearing a day dress - kinda perky and hopeful, no grimey or mussiness in sight.
Does Gres have any other perfumes or just EDT? Cause I’d prob blind-buy another parfum if it exists.

Enchantéedesviolettes

I blind bought this as the reviews seemed favorable, and I found a deal. I sprayed a tester on my wrist and bought the bottle, it seemed pleasant enough through my mask. I went outside to take my mask off and smell my wrist. It is exactly the scent of my 75 yo MIL. Kill me. Gotta see if I can return this, it's still sealed... UGHHHHH. Sorry everyone, this is not for me. I see how it can be a lovely scent but the associated mood with my MIL just wrecks any vibes. Hard pass for me...... YMMV!

Malita6623

Well, you have to give Cabotine a few chances, cause the first impression for me at least, was not that good, then it florishes. Smells like a green soap, performs best outdoors. I first smell flowers and then I can feel the vetiver, everytime I get a different note! Great for a walk or go shopping. Will buy again for sure.

CdeBXL

Cabotine, Cabotine... You are one gutsy concoction!

I remember having it as EdT in my young years, and it eluded me as being a bit too harsh, and linear flat.
Like musical notes that want to come out, but don't.

I now bought the EdP, and BLAST!
I did get the same vibe as with the old EdT, but in a much more violent, concentrated, layered, and complex way.
Oh boy: those notes did come out eventually, didn't they!
A beautiful belligerence of fruits, spices, and a whole lot of dirty rose and other feisty florals.

Tendre Poison -sadly deceased- has a sordid, unruly, and savage twin sister, and her name is Cabotine.

ps: Cabotine + Boucheron's Place Vendôme is probably the closest one can get to Tendre Poison, but I stand to be corrected.

Bubbles1964

I don’t know if my mini bottle is the EdP or EdT, but this is vintage sorcery in a bright green liquid. And that bottle wins the “too cute” award.

Cabotine Gres is citrus, green, powdery and floral....and I wish the aldehydes were cut in half. Dry down is smoother but still so powerful—my advice; go light on the application.

Like a lot of aldehydic formulas from a bygone era, I admire and respect this composition, but I won’t wear Cabotine Gres. Interesting but not my style and an easy pass, though not unforgettable.

Mona708

FYI- I have the EDT; I will write a separate review for the EDP when I try it out since they’re somewhat different.

It’s a lot more like Poison than I thought it would be, at least after the hairspray-like beginning. I like to imagine it as Poison taking a day off: she’s kicked off her stiletto heels, put away the expensive chic dark colored cocktail dress, and taken off most of her makeup. Instead, she has on a cute little green sundress with a matching hat and sandals while she strolls around the farmers market. Deep down she’s still a diva, though, and just like any other diva there are some things she just doesn’t like. Apparently on me, Cabotine doesn’t work very well with argan oil; the first few times I tried this while wearing an argan oil-rich moisturizer, it vanished after two hours. I got better results on unmoisturized skin (5 hours) and while wearing a different lotion (~6 hours). It lingers for nearly a week on clothes, though. Overall, I like it; as I said before it’s a bit like a toned-down version of Poison. For an EDT, the longevity isn’t too bad, but another hour or two wouldn’t hurt.

hadiyahadiyah

🙂 you need a light hand for this one. (careful, the spritz is generous). "old-school" in an oddly cute bottle, the bright green fits it's character. personally, i like the contradictions. the bottle is "uglycute". it's garish, yet pretty. the scent is kitschy, vintage, and cool all at once. does indeed smell cheap, but somehow, still nice. first spritz is a blast of citrus, carnation, and rose. sandalwood and vertivert join in at the drydown. spring to summer, for day or night. sillage and longevity are excellent. feminine. for those who appreciate all things "retro".

LaContessina

Oh I love this scent.
It used to be one of my staples back in the early 90’s when i discovered it was a dupe of the discontinued Tendre Poison. Cabotine is not as refined and posh as TP but it will do well in its absence and you can buy it for a song.
( by the way it’s one of my Mum’s favourite perfumes, I buy it for her regularly).
It is a ‘strong’, green and flower bomb and you need to use a light hand, a spritz too much can be overpowering.
I recall that one guy, back in the 90’s, hated me wearing that perfume, but I did not care at all about the guy and loved more Cabotine so I dropped the guy, not the frag! :o)
Cabotine is like spring in full swing.
It lifts you up a lot, gives you new energy and makes you feel clean and ready to go.

I do not see any “cheap soap” reminder here, nor an “old lady fragrance ” (I wish all old ladies were smelling like that :o) ; to me it’s very girlie like, very fresh, green and feminine.

I can see this is very polarizing (love or hate), however consider that this is a bestseller in Japan ever since its launch and I suspect this is the reason it still hits the shelves. (Japanese people like flowery and feminine fragrances, rather than spicy oriental oud styled ones).

It has great sillage and enormous staying power -a quality that to me is a plus in fragrances.

The best part is the dry down: that slight amber, violet, and cedar notes are sooo sexy!
Definitely a must have.

alsa7

All the reviews disliking this perfume (or other perfumes) because of the similarity to hair spray should really put this in perspective: that COSMETICS SHOULD BE FRAGRANCE-FREE.
The same goes for cleaning products.

XMistralX

got this as a gift. smelled it but its very much powdery, dusty and feels like an old woman. ill be selling it into a better home

lyka

Très vert comme parfum, bon sillage et bonne tenue; peut faire grand mère chez certaines mais moi j'aime beaucoup son côté floral, vert

Sunkissed

This is a very clean and long lasting green floral. It is one of my mom's fragrances so I can't say I don't like it because it makes me think of her and she's had people tell her Cabotine reminds them of her. But without the memories and feelings I think this would be a dislike and not an okay.

Maybe what bothers me is the sharp opening. Or maybe it is the soapiness. Normally I don't mind sharp openings and I like some soapy scents, so I don't know. I can't say what bothers me, but it is there somewhere in the notes. Maybe it just feels like too much.

I don't think this is a safe blind buy because many people seem to dislike it. But if you try this and love it, get it a big bottle. It is affordable and has excellent sillage/longevity.

Amandini

Well I bought this blind it was on a special and Gres spoke to me. It was my first Gres experience. When I put it on at first it was Immediately so familiar, i didnt know why. The tuberrose which I love, the spiciness, then as I enjoyed the dry down I realised what it was.. I reminded me of Amarige.. That heady flower bomb..!
As Im a lover of the heady flowers like freezia and tuberrose, gardenia... they have put a lot in here, but what I simply love is the lily. That intoxicating smell of white lilies that I love in my house. Some people hate lilies they give them a headache, Im not one of them. So the big green Cabotine giant. Gives me a lovely perfume with miles of sillage.. I would go lightly with it.. Unless Im in bed and then I can simply drown in the perfume of lilies... For the price of a handcream... This is a winner.. Gres did good.

aqua76239

I smelled it back in the day and remember liking it at first but then it was like "er nope" because aldehydes turn it into very dusty smelling mess.
I seen several you tubers raving about it and when I seen it in Marshalls for 15 bucks i figured I will try it again. Very early 90s scent/late 80s scent-lot of tuberose and other white florals with spice and aldehydes. This has a green opening(but not fresh modern green note, more like spicy green, very heady) and then it settles down into green floral aldehyde that has some spice. I actually like it, it has nostalgic feeling for me but its not something I would wear normally. Those few times I tested it, longevirty is amazing with one spray, its a total beast. I wish I could wear it but aldehydes kill it for me every time

Rssr

I regret buying it. I'm spray it only in my room, as it's too much on my skin. I'll wait a little longer, maybe smtg will change in time, but I'm considering giving it away.

Later edit: the longevity is enormous! The smell is persistent for several days in a room.

pinkmossy

This screeched and screams when it comes out and not in a pleasant way. But in a choking old fashioned perfume way. I can see this smell competing with cigarette smoke because it is pungent.

Terrible blind buy. I like cabotine gold and rose much better.

Jacobean Lily

Synthetic olfactory apocalypse.
Twenty seven ingredients in the pyramid and about twenty too many.
This is a perfume created without restraint, perhaps labouring under the delusion that the more molecules chucked in to the mix, the more interesting it becomes.
It manages to smell like green bubble bath designed for prepubescent girls.

Haiku of the day

twenty seven notes
lost in a chemical fog
tenacious cocktail

UnearthlyApothecary

I bought the EDP and I really didn’t know what to expect...traditionally I don’t care for aldehydes and I’ve only recently developed a love for green scents/chypres. I was also worried by some of the terrible reviews. But I was willing to risk it, because I love the house of Gres :) As it turns out, there was absolutely nothing to worry about, I absolutely adore Cabotine!!! It’s like effervescent fruity soap bubbles and tuberose. There is a little bit of spice from the coriander, carnation, and ginger. When I smelled it, I realized I have smelled this before. It’s a very joyful/cheerful, exuberant scent, a real pick me up. Does not smell cheap in the least. No urine or pissy vibe. And man, this stuff has some throw!! Fantastic silage and longevity. If you like the sound of an effervescently soapy tuberose with a bit of spice and greenness you should check it out!

Jacob1984

I love Cabotine ❤️

bourcet

Oh, Cabotine. You divisive, devil, you. I picked up a bottle of the EDT today at Marshall’s as an educational purchase. When I saw that the nose of this perfume, Jean Claude Delville, also created Clinique Happy and Jo Malone Orange Blossom, I figured it was worth the risk.

Upon first spray, I realized that I’ve definitely smelled this before on my grandmother. I remember then crinkling my nose up at that crazy, acrid hairspray note and definitely still do now, but the scent profile itself really is wild and worthy of exploration. The aldehydes here are really something to behold and I’m not sure if that’s a good thing; there is much buoyancy and light behind the smothering canopy of green, but the softer florals really do drown in this Aquanet mess. I really do want to like this, because when I first sprayed it on the box to test I really did enjoy how this ginger lily unfurled amongst a dozen or so other floral notes. But on my skin, this does not sing, it screeches and it screeches badly. I’m really surprised to see many others here mentioning how universal this fragrance is as it seems to be dependent on individual skin chemistry. I’m not sure which end of the pH continuum you have to skew to get this to work, but on me I don’t think I can get the chemicals to settle in order to witness this creamy floral moment others experience. If I struggle this hard with the EDT I can only speculate as to what sort of mess I’d make of the EDP.

A Fragrantican below made the connection between the popularity of cigarette smoking and chypre fragrances in days of yore, and this makes me think how Cabotine could actually blend quite nicely with the incendiary smokiness of a pack a day habit. My grandmother loved her Marlboro Reds (100s, of course) and I feel like this fragrance doesn’t compete with cigarette smoke like some other heavy fragrances do; if anything the alchemical craziness in Cabotine somehow cannibalizes cigarette smoke in order to neutralize it like Ozium would.

In summary, not a safe buy, but definitely one worthy of collecting.

Mystères du Château de Dé

Best worn Halloween to Easter. The punky, impudent, spiky, deliciously plasticy EDP is for the fall and winter. EDT, possibly the spring.

Cabotin/Cabotine is a 19thC French pejorative noun (and verb) for traveling actors (comédiens ambulants - une troupe de cabotins).

Truth in the name.

Cabotine EDP in 2020 has the bright, colorful, glassy, nectary, inky "highway rest-stop" attack I find in Cacharel Loulou, which predates Cabotine 3 years, to 1987.

Loulou nowadays impacts like Glass Wax, urinal cake flowers and freshly printed tourist attraction brochures. Cabotine blends melted Cool Pops or Freshen Up gum that squirts fruity gel into your mouth, those blocks of soap impaled on a stainless steel rod (which you never see any more), and a smashed bottle of some tasteful mother's better white-flower perfume, evaporating up from cracked ceramic tile. They are both late to the party punk/new-wave gutter-glamour masterpieces of sorts. The reformulations surely make these more challenging than they once were. And nowadays Cabotine costs less than a hamburger platter and a Coke. For an in your face statement blend of vulgar and chic.

The Grinch could offer Cabotine to Cruella de Vil. Scooby Doo's Hex Girls would love this.

The tepid EDT might suit the spring season but I don't see its value, considering how striking and original is the EDP.

And IMO, the current presentation is perfect.

Veronika95

I have never smelled this, I just wanted to say that it’s probably the least appealing bottle I have ever seen 😁 it always reminds me of cabbage or broccoli 😁 if I will ever see it somewhere I will gladly smell it, because I’m curious if it smells like vegetables 😂 just kidding, I’m sure it doesn’t, I’m actually really curious to smell this, I just don’t want to buy it because I don’t really like florals

echurch1979

I absolutely agree with kiraagold's review below. When I received this in the summer, I felt the flora translated into a Plasticine horror story, and there was a strange musk to it that can only be explained by each ingredient fighting for dominance, like the Hunger Games. Still, I felt like there could have been something; some potential. You want to like it. You sense an elemental sturdiness to its profile, but it bleeds acridity and projects a ginger vitriol like no other. I wore such a frown with this, and finally decided I would list it for purchase, and be done. It was late fall, and wanting to provide an accurate description of the perfume to the buyer, I dared to apply once more. And out of no where, such loveliness! It became autumn itself, with its verdance morphing into tea notes, and its floral bomb equating to dripping honey. Dry leaves and spicy notes settle deep into pores, and marmalade chords impregnate fibers of clothing. It is fall in a bottle, and after my scathing last review of this number, has become my little dark secret. This is my nighttime cozy scent, when winter chills move indoors restlessly. So strange, this 180. In the cold, this transforms into a sweater like experience - calm and serene. But beware of the warmer months, and their respective Mr. Hyde.

kiraagold

In the summer Cabotine is an overwhelming mess of spicy flowers; in cold weather it becomes cassis tea with honey.

Heavy carnation, gingery white florals and huge green hyacinth are eye-watering in the heat, with a whopping dose of black currant on the top and bottom giving a bite of acidic fruit in the beginning and an angry cat scratch at the end.

But in the winter, everything blends into sweetness, berries and nectar and soft musk, cheerful and petal soft–and worn under clothes, the sillage relaxes to an enjoyable comforting layer.
Lasts til morning on skin, and til spring on fabric.

Kashaboo

A little gem, for the price. It reminds me of Amarige and Anais Anais, and a little of Poison. I never smelled Tendre Poison, so I cannot speak to this comparison. The bottle is adorable, and the scent to me is lots of white flowers, foremost tuberoses and jasmine, also hyacinth and black currant. The longevity is impressive. A lovely, fresh spring and summer scent - uplifting like a nice, cool glass of Chardonnay!

SuzanneS

Cabotine.
Cabotine has long been tethered to Tendre Poison. Only the honey note is absent. This is a large floral, transparent yes, but associations of Poison and Tendre Poison come to mind with its mighty fruity floral presence. The Edt is easy to wear from the start, but the Edp has a bitter hyacinth opening that is different from the Edt and might put off some people. The green floral genre is pretty rare these days as is the absence of any sweetness that pervades most of the current fragrances on the market.

Tuberose, Lily, and white florals dominate this composition. The heliotrope and violet add a powdery aspect to it. The fruits give this body. If you are looking for a big inexpensive floral, Cabotine is it.

lemonblue

I hesitate to write a review for this, lest it fall short of my feelings for this fragrance. Cabotine was the first perfume I ever bought. That was about 8 years ago. I sprayed it to test the first time while riding home from the store. I didn't like it in the opening. But I wanted to like it. As the hours passed, there was something inexplicable in the scent which I felt needed exploring. I began wearing it Sundays, and then weekdays too. Any chance I was out. My first bottle was an edp, second edt, third edt again. I plan to buy another edp soon. I've been wearing Cabotine on and off for years now, and there are a few things I can say about it. 1. It's unique. I've never smelt this on anyone else, especially in my age group (20s). and 2. Give it a full day's wear to decide. I find it develops a beautiful green and white floral accord as the day wears on and you might find yourself inadvertently sniffing to piece out the notes. 3. Don't be surprised if you find yourself wearing this non-stop for months on end with no regard to season.
If I condense my many thoughts on Cabotine, it would be this: Cabotine is a nice warm hug. It bears a nostalgia for me that is both beautiful, happy, and yet unfamiliar and slightly lonely like the first time I wore it. I wear it very seldom now, on the type of days that only come a few times a year, where you just need a pick me up from something outside of yourself. Today is one of those days. When I return to it, I sometimes wonder why I ever left. Cabotine is just a comforting green hug. It doesn't keep you too close, in that it's squeezing you, but it's the kind of hug you might need in a place with clinical stifling air. A dry office. A nondescript studio. A hug from someone you admire but aren't very close with. A hug that you might get only once, but remember and rely on for years. Sentimental, and yet reserved and distant. Meaning ascribed to something only you may remember, as somber and sobering as that may feel. Happiness and melancholy. Thoughts on a cold spring day.

bodnerrachel

This is a lovely little hidden gem. A wonderful pick-me-up for very little money. A lovely green floral fragrance with ginger lily at its heart and just a hint of tangerine, plum, and coriander. Wish it was a little more assertive, but it's lovely and fresh. And oh, so green!

Amberdunn

This does not work for me. So I have passed it onto my mom. She loves it. I had to scrub it off a few minutes after applying. And trust me, the shower didn't help. This scent is strong and long lasting. If you are looking for something soapy, floral and something that screams look at me...than try this.

Puolanka

I got a bottle for $15 at a discount store. Hated it on me with a passion, but it smelled like a greener version of Amarige.

I called my mother, who only wears Amarige (hugging her stinks in my mind....ugh) and sometimes Red, and with rare exception one of the many samples I have given her through the years. She tried this on and immediately fell in love with it.

This makes her scent a little bit more tolerable to my nose, so it was worth the $15.

I should add my mother is a smoker and uses a lot of hairspray. I think she likes this/Amarige because it softens and neutralizes those smells and makes them smell intentional, like they are part of a complex chypre. I suspect thats why chypres had greater popularity in the past...more BO, air pollution, and smoke in our noses.

I have been curious about this perfume for so long...I've known of it for years but never had the opportunity to sample it, and knowing how divisive it seems to be I wanted to form my own opinion. At TJ Maxx last weekend, there it was, in a box that had been opened. This was my chance! I gave a tentative spray directed away from me, then did the thing with my hand where I try to cup the scent towards me.

That's when I discovered that I HAVE smelled this many times in the past, but thought what I was actually smelling was the sillage from a woman who had applied way too much Aquanet. The hairspray vibes are powerful! Perhaps this morphs and shifts over time into something softer but that initial blast of hairspray was all I could smell. I tried to walk away from that one spritz but it followed me all the way through the store and out the door.

This scent is not for me, but I love reading reviews both for and against this perfume. To each their own!

My God, where do I start? I really wanted to like this - its cheap and cheerful, with a list of ingredients that seemed to hold some secret oriental spell. But when I sprayed this, it only proved to repulse me. The first few moments are promisingly herbal and green; almost a Karl Lagerfeld start. Unfortunately, these are but a fleeting tide, and as the verdant curtain recedes, we are left with a chemical spray back of a nauseatingly perilous list of compounds. It is as if Gres' chemical engineers were playing with every synthetic floral scent they could muster, and we are left acknowledging that just because one can, doesn't necessarily mean one should. The incantation of aldehydes using the "living flower technique",and synthesized ginger lily, become confusingly abrasive and Plasticine. To add another unfortunate twist, this perfume holds a level of longevity and sillage, so often coveted by the industry, by tenaciously impregnating each fiber and pore of a person's being. It is a truly haunting experience! Every now and again, we get a whiff of sweet amber and gentle vanilla. But mostly, it feels like in the time it takes for the perfume to develop, there is a picture in an attic getting younger. Bottom line, this perfume should have stopped way before thirty elemental ingredients, and it would of been quite wearable.

Curiosity got the best of me tonight and I picked up a bottle for clearance prices. First spritz impression, I was thinking, oh my, this is going to be interesting. It was a similar vibe to my Bill Blass by Bill Blass EDT. Very green, aldehydes, and a spicy note which is probably the ginger lily. If you have never smelled ginger lily in bloom, look around in commercial landscaping because it is used quite frequently like rosemary, tarragon, and iris. On my skin, I don't get bug spray vibes. This is definitely a floral scent. I must have been blessed with complimentary chemistry, like others who enjoy perfumes because I know there are some people who gagged at Thierry Mugler's Angel and Marc Jacobs Decadence gives them 'dill pickle' vibes. Cabotine EDT for me turns into a sweet white floral scent. It is a bit powdery, but not too much. I happen to be wearing Marc Jacobs Decadence Eau So Decadent on my forearm and definitely can see the difference in sweetness between the two fragrances. Cabotine EDT is on the back of my hand. Cabotine EDT being more of a natural sweet as in flowers and fruits rather than an artificial white sugary sweet. The other interesting thing about doing this is being able to compare how floral scents have evolved over the decades. Especially given the history of perfumery since ancient times. The complexity of the notes present in Cabotine EDT definitely gives one an appreciation for the perfumer whose artistic expression comes through. Cabotine EDT is something I could see a bride from the past wearing at her elaborate wedding like Chanel No. 5 or other white florals with heady jasmine, gardenia, carnations, aldehydes, amber, tonka bean, etc. This is not kin to modern reformulated perfume that is gone in 30 minutes. Nicely done and from Lalique. My box says Made in France.
Edit: Just had Deja Vu. This reminds me of the vibes I get from Lady Primrose's Tryst perfume.

This is the strangest perfume.
Usually, in floral perfumes, floral notes are the first to dissipate then you are left with the base notes.
This one is the opposite.
The first spritz is a punch of green and floral, that lasts 1 second. Then I was left with a heavy scent, which I strongly disliked. But then, in about 1 hour, I started to feel the floral scent. Really floral, really nice.
To those that dislike this perfume, I say: give it some time until the floral starts to develop.

Do not forget about concentration — toilet water or perfume water. I have both concentrations. They are different.
Eau de toilette is softer and fresher. Parf water is a little heavier, but still beautiful.I love all!

I find it facinating how we all react differently to the same fragrance.
After two successful blind buys of the Cabotine line, Vivide, and Gold, both of which I LOVE, I thought it was time to risk a purchase of the orgional formula. For $12 on Amazon, why not?
Well it is my first Cabotine disappointment. On me, the ylang-ylang and tuberose are INTENSE. I find it horribly sweet and overpowering with just one spray. On the dry down it becomes more powdery, turning soapy, but the ylang-yland does not mellow much. The sillage is MASSIVE and it's VERY long lasting on me. The next morning it was strong enough to think it was still floating in its middle notes. I think I've developed and intense dislike for Ylang-ylang. It's just too powerful and I don't want to be that women you can smell coming a mile away!
The scent seems to me more appropriate for a young girl than a mature woman. I dislike the fragrance enough that I wouldn't give it as a gift but since I adore the rosette bottles, I will keep it for my collection so that I have the green one.
Edit: I've tried it a couple more times and while I don't love it, I am liking it more the more I try it. Sometimes a fragrance just needs to grow on me. :)

Cabotine smells fresh, feminine, clean. Green and floral without being loud. An anytime scent easily worn without second thoughts. It's a people friendly fragrance-does not intimidate. Love it.

Too bad you can't see my face and my surprised expression when I discovered that the author of this gem is the same as many fragrances that are part of my collection. For example, Dunhill Icon Elite, Banana Republic M and the legendary Wings Beverly Hills men. Cabotine de Grès is the youngest and most contemporary version of Cabochard. It builds around a white ginger lily flower not mentioned here, which has a tropical, fruity, white flavour with hints of ginger. Cabotine comes in two concentrations, like EDT and EDP, which share the same vibration, but the latter is a little sweeter but not greedy, and closer to Tendre Poison - or better, Poison likens this since it was released later. As it turns out, Cabotine is composed of a complex olfactory pyramid, with many fruits, flowers and woods. It is my third bottle of Cabotine, and strangely it came after Gold and Rose. I didn't like the first time I smelt it, I wrinkled my nose and set it aside. Maybe the tester was dated, and the slightly stale fragrance seemed to be an opulent, heavy, and cumbersome old aunt's scent. Not long ago, however, I got to see some reviews on YouTube and wanted to give it a second chance. My opinion has changed for the better, the green, fresh and sensual tones were released immediately, and as soon as I got home, I ordered it online for about 10 euros, a real bargain!

The unfolding is just too fruity and spicy accord, the abundance of black plums and juicy peaches, the sparkling coriander leaves and the wild blackberries. The floral accord is intensified by the presence of the cassia and tagetes, the former also known as golden shower, the latter a sort of marigold with a pungent sweet-herbaceous odour reminiscent of green apple. A plethora of aldehydes brightens the mixture, which enhances the greenish facet of top notes, and donates redolence of carrot and celery, very far from the aldehydes used in Chanel N ° 5, to make the idea. The dark green cap likens an afro-head of flowers, and the neon green juicy perfectly mirror the character of this perfume. I don't find Cabotine particularly all too sweet or fruity; instead, I think this is the best and most beautiful greenish opening I have ever smelt. It's unabashedly loud although it eventually settles into the moderate territory.

As the flowers continue to bloom, I get a certain soapiness after a few minutes, followed by a mild, fruity sweetness somewhere along the line. It evolves into a scent very similar to classic Dove soap if my memory recalls well. Soapy at first, then it mellows and becomes less sharp. The heart explodes with plenty of blossoms, sweet flowers accompanied by earthiness and greenness. Above all, the intoxicating tuberose dominates the stage; still, it does not shadow the other essences but gracefully melts with them. Watery freesia, violet, and blue hyacinth keep the heart fresh and wet, the ylang-ylang adds a touch of sweetness, and the aldehydic and heliotropic iris brings powderiness. Synthetic night-blooming jasmine Arabian pot-pourri proudly sustains the bouquet. Though, there is a titillating aspect coming from the white butterfly ginger lily blossom, the backbone of Cabotine since the first edition, with its rich honeysuckle-like fragrance. Ginger lily isn't a lily, but it is in the ginger family. Most likely it was given this name for the robust and lily-like aroma its white flowers emit, particularly during the early evening. The fragrance is reminiscent of tuberose and gardenia and displays a fresh, sweet, tropical floral bouquet with a lovely ginger-like, fruity undertone. The floral sweetness is vibrant and deep with good tenacity, and pulses in the Cabotine's heart.

This floral symphony lies on a dry-down blending musky and green over a sweet amber base, rich of white musk and civet, which give a soft animal tone, soapy and clean. The dry, creamy vanilla and slightly animalistic musky co-starring tandem with subtle, dry sandalwood and slightly lemony vetiver support through the finish. At the same time, blackcurrant appears again in its leafy aspect.
Cabotine is a bright, green, fresh, gingery floral. It is like a garden full of fragrant blossoms and green leaves. It doesn't punch into the face like a bouquet of various flowers, everything but arrogant. The flowers show themselves one after another, while still in harmony. The sillage is quite good, but it doesn't smell heavy, more like flowers brought by the wind, floating in the air. The longevity is enormous, which is rare for an EDT. Delighting in every moment, I see Cabotine more appropriate for the warm seasons, chilly Spring days and Summer nights out.

At last, I tried on a women's fragrance for a change. Besides, fragrance hath no gender. But in terms of how we perceive scents and their association with gender, Cabotine de Grès is feminine. The bottle design alone, more so its green floral stopper, clearly suggests that this one is for the ladies. But who cares? It may be characteristically feminine, but I guess the right guy can rock this with no problem at all.

This is such a classic 90's scent. It is comforting because it reminds me of the shampoo and hairspray/hair gels that I used in the 90's. This is what I love about nostalgic scents, it just transports you right back to that time period! It makes me so happy to wear this.

AdrianaCatLover

My signature scent ! I smell honey in this but I don’t see it in the notes. It’s beautiful!

mz_diamondzzz

Smells like a green toothpaste, if you can imagine how that would smell. Not for me

smath778

Pure nostalgia. I got this from my dad as a high school graduation present and it has been in my collection ever since. Not the same bottle. I'm in my 40s now. lol. It's a summer staple, so more than 20 years of happy summer memories are linked to this fragrance for me. :)

BellaMi

Sweet and strong, becomes a bit milder and more flowerish in the next several hours. Definitely feminine, quite popular aroma, very similar to other perfumes on the market (not sure who`s copying who). Definitely not a match for everybody. Some will be in love, others like me, will not be pleased at all. Try before you buy, do not go for a blind buy.

My mom owned a bottle years ago, back when I was just a kid. This perfume always brings me back to my childhood, sneaking in to my mom's room to play dressup and try on her cosmetics. It's a beautiful mix of floral and green notes, very feminine and delightful. This perfume always brings me joyfulness and excitement, like trying perfume for the first time as a baby girl.

Seaworthy

Floral and green it smells divine. Perfect for spring! I have worn this fragrance a couple of times recently and after an hour or so I can't smell it anymore. Perhaps very faint skin scent on me. I wish that it lasted longer.

I wore this out, and the person I was talking to asked me if I smoked weed. I asked them why, and they told me it was because I smell like weed. Keep in mind, I dressed very conservative back then.

Needless to say, I did not wear this again.

Welp, time to eat my hat.

I swear to God and all that is holy that I tried and wore Cabotine any number of times early on in my perfume explorations, and I loathed it. It was even actively on my “dislike” list. Some people I know tried to talk me off the ledge: it’s a spring floral (I love those), it’s a geeen scent (love those too), and it features tuberose (check check check). I seem to remember a sour green candy accord that put me off—sour apple Jolly Ranchers and a shrill lily-of-the-valley, or something like that—but to be honest, it has been a long time.

Then I woke up today, and started to reach for my trusty, tasteful Donna Karan Woman (a new acquisition that has been blowing my mind, with its mossy but almost aquatic vetiver touched with orange blossom), and then I looked outside at the spring sunshine, saw the new ivy trembling in the morning breeze, heard the chorus of birds twittering near the window and the buzz of a lawnmower, and thought, nah; I want something fun. So there, lying the top of my big wood box of random samples, lay a little decant of Cabotine that somehow escaped several rounds of sample purges, next to some Tom Ford Jonquille de Nuit. I picked up the Tom Ford, then the Cabotine, and figured, sod it—if I still hate it, I can scrub it off. Which is not happening.

Cabotine opens with an exuberant, brilliant chartreuse-shaded spring accord (hyacinth, jasmine, and orange blossom), with some tangy blackcurrant in the mix that reminds me of a glass of cold Sauvignon Blanc. But along with its classic spring profile, it features a tropical heart of tuberose and ylang-ylang, and those humid florals twinned with their fresh counterparts and tart blackcurrant come off as cheerful, sexy, and sassy as a pixie haircut.

After its neon-shaded opening settles in with a soft puff of iris and heliotrope rounded out with a little sandalwood, some lemony coriander joins to spice things up. A mellow rose emerges, and then something that smells like green tea—which I don’t see in the notes; maybe it’s vetiver, or maybe it’s a phantom I’m picking up because I associate lemon, jasmine, and blackcurrant with iced tea: probably both—just a bit tannic, there to marshal the giddy flowers into symmetry. Then jasmine comes to the front, with some violet joining the rose, iris, and heliotrope—a classic cosmetic accord, Coty Airspun Powder and vintage lipstick. A bit of florist-shop greenery, a touch of peach, and that’s where it lands until it gradually fades into a duet of ferny green and more powder, with the tuberose returning hand-in-hand with the jasmine. skipping off into the late afternoon. I’m going to let it run down as far as possible; given that it developed pretty quickly, I imagine that will be five hours max. I bet its traces are going to smell great when I later on the Jonquille de Nuit this evening.

I get no civet, but I’m sure my sample is relatively recent. I’ll be scouting for some vintage now that I know, because I would love to smell this in a raunchier early incarnation. In the meantime, I can see starting the day with Cabotine for the next couple of months, until summer proper takes over and Tiare Season arrives. Cabotine feels just perky enough to open sleepy eyes. I’m putting it next to Jour d’Hermès, No. 19, and my trusty Molyneux Quartz (another bargain green that wears well this time of year).

I can’t believe I hated it. I can’t believe I love it.

It’s mid-spring caught in a bottle, and absolutely perfect for celebrating the arrival of warm weather. Happy April Fools’ Day to me.

Ah, beautiful Cabotine. I first encounted this fragrance some time ago, along with Cabochard. Cabotine is, to me, a living contradiction. It's light yet has depth. It's a light floral yet it develops into a deep, rich, floral symphony that lingers. This flower garden is rich with green. Blackcurrant deepens and enriches this even more. I completely love Cabotine. It's perfect for day-to-day wear, evening, morning, and all day through. I remember the original pre-reformulation version of Cabotine which was heavenly. However, the latest reformulation is still beautiful, and is reminiscent of the original. The price point is low for such a gorgeous scent. I prefer the parfum as opposed to the edt.

I'm not really a packaging purist, but the flacon is lovely, with a pretty floral cap. For some reason, Cabotine makes me think of White Shoulders which I also love. They don't smell exactly alike, but Cabotine always brings that to my mind. In my view, you can't go wrong with this if you want to try a classic Gres floral parfum. Sillage and longevity are excellent.
