Sicily by Dolce&Gabbana is a Floral Aldehyde fragrance for women. Sicily was launched in 2003. The nose behind this fragrance is Nathalie Lorson. Top notes are Banana, Honeysuckle, Orange Blossom, Bergamot and Aldehydes; middle notes are Nutmeg, Jasmine, Hiacynth, Hibiscus and Rose; base notes are Musk, Sandalwood and Heliotrope.

«There is no Italy without Sicily». This fragrance brings the genuine Italian temperament of the people of this beautiful island where the time is measured in moments and feelings in eternity. Sicily is soft like a whisper, attractive like lips longing for a kiss, and unforgettable like women\'s skin touch. Sicily is an attempt of using a bigger amount of aldehydes in a modern fragrance and the floral-aldehyde heart of the composition lies on the oriental vanilla base. Floral-aldehyde compositions which instantly remind of classic Chanel N°5 posses glamour and elegance of «old» classic fragrances.

Apart from the classic glamour the aldehydes in Sicily, combined with floral notes and warm oriental base, give a fine effect of a warm female skin. The top notes are Sicilian bergamot and powdery honeysuckle, the heart notes are jasmine, black rose and hibiscus, and the base notes – heliotrope, sandalwood and musk.

I typically appreciate powdery scents, but this one is way too powdery for me. I think it's the "oriental vanilla" base the description mentions. Since I feel like Shalimar is similar and I have a similar slightly irksome experience.

I do love the overall scent profile, though. I haven't found another creamy, non-sweet banana forward scent like this yet. I hope I can find something like Sicily minus the powdery-ness since it truly is lovely! :)

cats_eye

This was an amazing scent! It smelled like Caress soap, just in a perfume form. Soapy orange blossoms surrounded by musk, heliotrope and sandalwood.

TexasOrangeBlossom

I just saw that this has been re-released with some tweaks as part of their prive line. It’s rather expensive, but if you miss Sicily and don’t want a vintage bottle, that’s a way to get it.

Pandoraa

This was one of my first perfumes, if not the first and I still remember the scent like it was yesterday. Clean and soapy but so feminine and sexy. While I loved the smell, I wouldn't often choose to wear it, maybe because I was not so much into the clean smells or because my then boyfriend gifted it to me after he had smelled it on a girl I hated. I remember I loved it but would then go and cheat on it with Oro from Roberto Cavalli, cause that was the kind of girl I was.

Amour, Michele

Can't believe I never reviewed this - I have 2 bottles of this as back ups so I currently have 3 bottles. There is no other perfume that I have that much in back up... This one is so unique. I'm an obsessive collector of "soapy" scents - especially old-fashioned floral soaps with a mossy or musky (but not white musk) base. No shampoo, dryer sheets, fabric softeners, or fruity-florals, please! If you're also as obsessive about "real" soap scents as I am, you know what I'm talking about! Sicily is one of those rare scents. It's so incredibly clean and seductive. The ad with Monica Bellucci totally makes sense and give you what kind of scent it is. She even takes a hot bath in the ad - yep, all hot skin and her soap smells like Sicily! The banana note is totally there but I think it's an aspect of ylang ylang so not sure it should be a separate note in the note hierarchy as shown here. It is definitely an aspect of ylang ylang that I LOVE and not as prominent in other perfumes, which is another reason I just adore and cherish this perfume. It's amazing.

Fruit-chan

This is the ultimate feminine perfume. This is everything Chanel n°5 is not has never been and will never be.
If this was the scent of Chanel n°5 I would understand why it is so extremely popular and a best seller worldwide for a century.
But since this is the beautiful, sexy, elegant, feminine sophisticated Sicily without excessive marketing unfortunately has lost her grown, that should
rightfully had been hers, from Chanel n°5...
A stunning fragrance.Deserved to be a classic.Deserved to be legendary.Instead it got discontinued.
So unfair her name wasnt Chanel n°5...

mirrorghost

i get the banana, nutmeg and sandalwood along with aldehydes. the aldehydes get stronger and overpower everything else for awhile, then the banana comes back stronger and balances out. it's mostly banana, nutmeg, musk and sandalwood. i get some subtle honeysuckle later on. it's warm and creamy. very pretty and reminds me of something i smelled back in the day. a nice light creamy scent for summer. glad i recently found a mini to try.

soldier71

fabulous and absolutely nothing even close to velvet sicily - one of a kind, fruity, floral, unctuous, powdery delight, with a dash of aldehydes. Gorgeous, classy, feminine ray of sunshine; could bathe in it :)

BossaBabe

Very elegant and classy, with an old school vibe to it. The florals combined with the aldehydes gives this a subtle coconuty smell. Performance is outstanding.

Neryumo

I don't feel any banana at all, just warm and spicy nutmeg. Not my cup of tea but this is beautiful scent.

SmellyCat101

I had to get my nose on this after reading an article on it. Unfortunately I can't get down with the vintage aldehydes and I just can't figure this one out and what I am smelling.

JackieM

I have a mini of the Euroitalia Sicily. The strongest impression is of soapiness, for sure. Aldehydes that are soft and approachable, then secondarily of the powdery heliotrope. There's maybe some honeysuckle, a less common floral. I'm not getting much of the distinctive banana, maybe it's the age? While many get summer and sunscreen from this, I'd say it's a safe year round scent, but prob for day.

Though this is a marker of an era before *all-vanilla-everything* and cake! cake! cake!, it does not feel dated, just uncommon. It does not reach the glamorous heights of the red cap, but it's for a grown and sophisticated woman. Having experienced what D&G is putting out now (Dolce Lily, the newest one), there could not be more stark of a difference in the customer they clearly prize. It's a shame. Sophisticated women (of all ages) have gone nowhere. They just don't want the attention that others do (don't be fooled by the tik tok *aesthetics* of "quiet luxury" and such, there's nothing quiet about cosplaying different styles every week on social media), so I guess that means their dollars don't matter as much. So be it. The rest of us know where those women are and what they doing, probably living the real life while leaving a trail of Sicily ;)

Alyssa2912

I miss this gem so much and I am desperately looking for a dupe. This used to smell like a sunny day with nothing to worry about. I know that many perfumers try to create something similar but all of their attempts end up being too fresh for me, if that makes sense. This perfume was warm, calm, classy and just magical. Not overly tropical either (despite the banana tone). The aldehydes were strong enough to give this perfume a base that reminded me of freshly washed clothes dried outside but subtle enough to make this parfume suitable for everyday wearing.

cats_eye

This was pure Caress peach soap in a bottle. Sadly discontinued like By and D&G Feminine.

natasha28

A dislike for me. This perfume is just okay for me, a little to heavy on the florals for my taste. A bit of fresh spice (not pepper), I don't get the banana note, maybe a green banana. It sits close to skin to arms length. Older scent for women maybe 60+ years old. It's mostly (yellow?) florals and I don't really pick up any fruits. It's more spring summer daytime, but it's heavy. There's a slight warmness that I like, maybe that's the aldehyde? It's like there's a dirtiness. Not a safe blind buy! Someone said it smells like 80's hairspray and now that I think of it Loreal's Elnett hairspray might smell like this, my memory could be wrong. I couldn't use the hairspray BC is just smelt so old for me for use. People have said it's been discontinued, which I can understand BC it just doesn't fit into the times now.  I wouldn't buy or keep if gifted, in between dislike and okay.Lasts about 8-10hours.

Harley522

Somewhat similar ( same buttery smell ) to original Red Cap, but more tropical ( banana ) aldehydic. True essence of Dolce & Gabbana philosophy.
Gold and black color of the bottle fits the scent.
When you are in the right mood, this is real man killer. I got numerous crazy compliments for this perfume.

drugstore classics

Yes, I echo another reviewer..... that this is perfection. Discontinued perfection, which is only too common!

Years ago I tested Sicily and could NOT understand why anyone would wear this. It was patently ugly, with an appealing something underneath it all. I assumed there was something wrong with my nose. Wrong. It had gone bad! Today I have a fresh sample which is miles away from this earlier experience, but with that appealing aspect clearly dominant and wonderful. How can a fragrance contain banana and still be elegant? But it does and is! Perhaps the nutmeg is to answer, which never seems anything but excellent to me. The balance of notes here would be ideal in the heat and is the very definition of Italian chic.

My favorite, timeless D&G, however, is the classic Red Cap! The best Femme fragrance for a hot day. Stronger, more complex, full of personality. Just wonderful....

Edit: Later, wearing another day, a fragrance friend commented that she smelled coumarin in the base of Sicily. True! It's a pleasing vanilla/musk/powder with a vintage vibe. Nothing challenging on dry down, despite the more niche-style inedible banana opening! But what truly surprised me: On my skin the dry down is quite similar to that of the original Avon Far Away. Yes, Far Away is brash and strong. Sicily is elegant and light by comparison. But on me they are sisters on dry down, a product of their era. <3

Joani_Cheddar

This is lux!~ as @AriaLennnon below states "old but gold". The new formula smells similar but lacks something in the nitty gritty, like a twang -which may be caused by the ol' banana in the tail pipe trick~ This fragrance is acting mature when you are only 19, wearing velvet in a denim category, dying your hair brunette when you're a natural blonde; this is going against the grain but still being recognized as "cool"

Scentfrommanna

Oh yum this is gorgeous! I am wearing this in winter and it is a lovely creamy soapy lemony floral delight. I wasn’t sure about it at first but the dry down on this is where it’s at! I think it will smell best in spring and summer though, like D&G Red Cap, I think these perfumes were designed to bloom on skin in the heat, it reminds me slightly of an expensive sunscreen which for me is a good thing. I like the use of aldehydes in this, although they are not the punchy fresh aldehydes you get in No.5.

The packaging for this is gorgeous, so sleek and classic, very Italian.

I think the relaunched Velvet Sicily is a close match for it but slightly less sunny and more sweet and creamy. I cannot smell the banana in Velvet Sicily.

I do see some similarities with Armani Lei although that smells more masculine to my nose. I also think it is similar to Cashmere Mist by DKNY. I think this is my skin and nose really picking up the musk and heliotrope in Lei and Sicily. This is good as given the rarity of Sicily I don’t want to get through my bottle too quickly, so I can use Armani Lei or Cashmere Mist to get a similar scent as well.

Scentfrommanna

This is still available in the U.K. at the Direct Cosmetics website. It is expensive (£150) but they are a legit website.

ykarnavusha

Smell of my childhood, cause my mom used it all the time. A bit nauseous banana, but I loved it so much!

LSAUG

I had never heard of Sicily until recently. When the article about perfume advertising was published here and I saw the ad for D&G Sicily I got the Sicily bug and needed to smell it. And finding out the perfume had long been discontinued and its discontinued statis was the bane of serious perfume collectors really got me interested. So, happily I was able to score 12 samples of Sicily w/ out a great expense, only $30 and my curiosity could be satisfied. Now here are my thoughts on a very interesting and iconic fragrance..... Sicily opens w/ a blast of aldehydes and rich ripe banana. Banana is very strong for my nose right off the bat. As the fragrance develops it becomes very solar and bright like a sunscreen mixed w/ an 80's expensive hairspray. I know that might sound bad and often I would shy away from something like that but here it works. The florals in Sicily are abstract like aldehydic florals often are, they are florals that have a plastic or should I say faux perfection about them, Aka Elizabeth Taylor's White Diamonds. Flowers that are perfect, alien, lab created and never die. I pick up hyacinth, blinding white jasmine and a very tart hibiscus mingling w/ banana, along w/ fresh spicy nutmeg and soapy/hairspray aldehydes that are bathed in a never setting sun. As the perfume dries down, I get a lot of heliotrope w/ a fatty and slightly sweet and soapy musk. I thought my husband was going to hate this but oddly enough he likes it and says it is interesting, unique and like nothing he has smelled or that I own in my collection. It's funny this came out in the early 2000's because it smells totally 80's or is it the 50's? I go back and forth. I could see Marylin Monroe wearing this or Christy Brinkley. 2 iconic bombshells of their time period. This is a very strong perfume so go easy and you will enjoy it but if over sprayed it could bring on a headache. I might have to upgrade this to a love because of its unique qualities. I am glad samples are still pretty easy to score and I will pick up more. This is a ladylike perfume w/ a bit of fun and tongue and cheek quality to it, she is a woman who appears to be serious but underneath she is sensual, even playful and a bit of a flirt. D&G should bring this back into production. It is a zillion times better than most of what they produce now, especially their horrid Dolce line. The commercial really does fit the perfume. It is the smell of freshly washed and then worn that day lady's undergarments.

Acidula

I used it about 10 years ago, I wanted a strong perfume. The aldehydes of Sicily made the job, I wasn't fond of them because they leave me a pee-like drydown, but the rest of the notes covered it up quite well. It was sunny and sexy and I loved it.
I wouldn't buy it again because I associate it to a very specific period of my life, and I have changed tastes, but still a good vintage scent.

Wyded

Really beautiful aldehyde musky floral, i don't smell any banana here, maybe it represents the sweetness in it, it's very unique, i get a similar vibe with dolce gabbana for woman the old one, it must be the aldehyde. Very good quality it stays forever on clothes. When i smell this perfume i think about a bright sun in early summer.

Shahram.yari

Its one of semi classic women scents.
Defenately banana is there along with flowers while honeysuckle gives sweetness to it .
In a nutshell its fruity sweet floral that ends with powdery clean vibe.
Its a little classic and mature but completely wearable as a modern woman.
It is for a georgous gentlewoman in her middle period of her life.

AriaLennon

This one is old but GOLD!!!!

Mir5586

Dear Sicily lovers,
Today I found a beautiful perfume that had the same DNA as this gem, without the harsh aldehydes.
It’s Terra Di Gioia by Giorgio Armani.
I got it today, smelled it today and was immediately taken back to the first time that I smelled Sicily by D&G.
Not a straight dupe (how I hate that word) but this is Sicily just softer.
Could have been a Sicily Eau de toilette or a flanker.
Not kidding you!
Go smell it and thank me later !

❤️❤️❤️❤️

vintagebombshell1214

i LOVE dolce & gabbana perfumes. like light blue, this smells just like italy, a citrusy floral but more feminine and sweet. 8/10 for me

Search and Discover

Based on sample vial, I don't see what the hype is about. All I got were aldehydes, then no dry down at all. But maybe the sample was old ....

Just as well, I guess, since it looks like it's discontinued and remnant bottles are expensive/hard to get! Happy hunting to the reviewers who love it.

****
UPDATE: Okay, my skin totally ate this fragrance and I got zero scent that way. However, I just picked up the shirt I wore when I tested it, and I could detect a lovely, semi-sweet lemon and white floral bouquet. Absolutely wonderful. Beautiful perfume, but only projects in any way on CLOTHING.

BillyJean

I never pick up any banana in this... really??? No banana. Just beautiful aldehydes and flowers. From the first time I tried this, it was just pure intoxication, a trip down memory lane for reasons I cannot explain. The advertising, the bottle, the fragrance. Everything just came together to create perfection. I love this fragrance so much. But I also am a big fan of Mario Puzzo’s The Godfather book, authentic Italian pizza and I often fantasise about buying a property I a remote Sicilian village. So subconsciously this perfumes just fits right in. Monica Bellucci is the perfect face for this gem. I am glad to have a few bottles, and wouldn’t mind to get more.

LanaDelSlay

This smells exactly like Marseille soap. Very clean, but it's literally the smell of the soap with a tiny hint of banana here and there. So I don't know if the price is justified in this case

perfume_obsessed

I would strongly caution anyone who doesn’t already have the Sicily bug to keep on going. Don’t even try it because for those of us who loved OG Sicily, it’s an obsession.

I dropped my 100ml bottle of OG Sicily on the bathroom floor about 7 years ago and only later realised it had been discontinued. I have been pining for it since.

I bought up a quantity of sample vials on eBay to satisfy my craving for Sicily because even though there are some bottles available online, they are SO expensive! The samples were pretty expensive too, yet still a better buy than a bottle at the time, such is the markup these days! Several months ago I had the chance to buy a 150ml bottle of the reformulated Sicily at a decent price so I quickly jumped on it! It is very close, but with my samples I had of OG Sicily I could detect a slight difference. OG Sicily is a bit sweeter and more creamy.

I was over the moon to have the winning bid recently on a 100ml bottle of OG Sicily, having just missed out on several occasions. Had I not had anything to compare it with, reformulated Sicily would have hit the spot for me. But knowing that OG Sicily has a slight edge, if you’re a die hard Sicily fan (and there are many of us out there!), a vintage bottle is a must! I’ve tried for years to find anything I love as much, but there’s really nothing like Sicily.

onaona

Banana, seriously?

Yes, banana *nods head* and boy am I glad someone was thinking outside of the typical fragrance fruit basket with this one. I understand that not everyone smells what's meant to be banana on their skin, but I most definitely do and more importantly, I enjoy it!! I don't think there's any other fragrance where it works. I'm not sure I want to even attempt another fragrance trying to express the fruit. It surely has the potential to go sideways. Nathalie Lorson got it right the first time. Yet another reason she's one of my favorite perfumers.

I've had this fragrance for years and recently can't stop wearing it. Where it was in a slow rotation before, it has now edged it's way to the front of my vanity tray. As a result, I HAVE to try to explain why it's special.

After the banana, I find it primarily honeysuckle. It's is favorite of mine, but not one I find often on display in perfumery. The honeysuckle true to form here. It's sweet, delicate and a little wispy. It actually last on my skin deep into the heart of the fragrance. I find the surprisingly long lived honeysuckle almost fruity in Sicily and maybe vanilla like, though admittedly that could be the banana creaminess? In any case, it also works.

Sandalwood holds the base together for me with a mellow musk and a late blooming and understated heliotrope. Together the surprising combination of notes exudes a subtle sensual feel when I least expect it given the lightness of the fragrance.

Missing Notes?
aldehydes on my skin

Noteworthy Notes?
unusual
more FLORAL/fruity (banana) than floral/aldehyde to my nose
feminine, subtly sensual
a bit retro, thank goodness
the endlessly talented perfumer with this type of fragrance

It's not for everyone, but it is definitely meant for me.

ingeneuxo

-Opens fruity and green.
-Dries down to a sweet vanilla-forward scent
-I can see why this is mass-pleasing, but personally, the dry-down ruins it all. (-)

Jexotic

Disclaimer: I don’t like white or yellow florals, and I have a hard time with “fresh scents” that lack a pop of citrus.

The opening is very loud. Like very ripe banana scented hairspray.

It then settles into a fresh delicious soapy honeysuckle with creamy banana, hint of expensive sunscreen. It’s a very different floral so I am happy to own it. Reminds me of a resort lobby at nights. I hate rose and thankfully none comes through for me on this.

This would be great on hot days.

evarosa

Why is a bar of laundry soap so sexy? I don't know, in Dolce and Gabbana's Sicily it is.

Sunshine, some florals (ylang ylang), fatty musk. It is very strong and I remember frequently getting a headache wearing this in the 00's. Still really beautiful.

I have an old half empty bottle but sadly the topnotes have turned sour. The colour of the juice, the sleek packaging, everything is just perfect, sensual, Italian.

Saweety Sweet

The cleanest sexiest fragrance ever by D & G. How could they discontinue perfection? I smelled it on my mum's work colleagues. I was young, couldn't afford a bottle and was religiously buying my cheap Laura Biagitotti's and Tommy Girl back then. Anyway all I know is that I am not spending £200 for this in Selfridges. Harrod's has sold out. People say the scent hasn't been reforumulated...I hope it is true. Will be checking this out when next I see it in the shops. For the banana and Italian soap lovers, this is Dove Soap on steroids.

Painty

I have a new bottle unopened of Sicily by Dolce & Gabbana if anyone is interested. ;)

Magifera I can't send you message here.
Please write to me your email address because of Sicily.
Sorry from everyone i will delete my review.

I can't believe Sicily's commercial I just watched... wait, what?... (insert a confused emoji here)

The fragrance itself is quite interesting. Extremely aldehydic, extremely soapy in the beginning. It starts smelling creamier with time, cold banana ice cream but it's not sticky-tacky sweet. Musk, banana ice cream, sunblock, powder. Strange.

Cannot compare this fragrance to anything else. It's a good clean scent but lacks freshness for my taste. It's sweetness is somewhat dusty, somewhat dry, somewhat suffocating. I've been to Sicily and, in my opinion, DG Light Blue captures the island's aura more accurately than this soapy, powdered beauty. But what does a cold-blooded Baltic girl know about the true scent of Sicily?

Definitely worth a try.

cheleine

You can’t currently find a sample or really a bottle of this in stores, as it’s discontinued, BUT you can score an old bottle online. Here’s my best try at describing the scent for you, as I’m currently smelling this:
First of all, ALDEHYDES! Not the modern tolerable & “kind” ones, but the old school/vintage ones (see Chanel No5).
Second, a very mild, green, unripe banana (main reason, most people can’t detect this note) existing, simply, to give the creaminess feel to this perfume. No sweetness.
Then, some vague florals with the jasmine most evident, while the juicy fruits of the pyramid are non detectable on my skin.
Lastly, the nutmeg is what gives this perfume character accompanied by a natural musk.
All in all, it’s okay, just not for me.
Charming, but I just can’t get past the fact that this reminds me of the rich-grandmas-soap-stuck-in-a-moist-bathroom kind of smell. Pass.

diego.lesgart

This fragance can be unisex or is cleary femenine????

who.am.i.you

This is such a beautiful fragrance. I happened to score a 80% full 3.4 oz bottle for $75 after years of looking about the grey market, but didn't want to spend the commonly asked-for price. I feel incredibly grateful to have found it! <3

This isn't a loud fragrance, but a very sunny cloud of a scent that wraps you up in a beach towel on a sunny, breezy summer's day. Bright, yet powdery soft accords, with hints of white florals that emanate from offshore, pushed by the breeze. I feel that the banana, nutmeg, sandalwood, and musk give this fragrance a little bit of a suntan lotion/dessert vibe, but only very subtle (not at all a sunscreen-esque or gourmand fragrance, however). As I said, it makes me think of a beautiful day at the beach, but this also includes the refreshing cleanliness post-shower after a long day of being kissed by the sun and salt. Soapy, sunny, sparkling, edible, sophisticated, playful, and relaxing. It's amazing and fairly unique, especially within the floral aldehyde category.

AnlisaC

I have an original bottle of this. I’ve always stored it correctly so fortunately it still smells amazing. This is a white floral which sits close to skin. I really don’t smell the banana note in here but it maybe the creaminess that I am getting. This is a feminine scent, longevity is not great unfortunately. Too bad it’s discontinued, it really gets me when they discontinue something that smells amazing. If you can still find it definitely buy.

lretseh

This used to be my signature scent and I was so upset when it was discontinued. It is elegant and almost perfect. The only thing you can accuse it of is that it smells a bit on the artificial side.
I'll have to try the new version but that's even more expensive.

PureLight78

I am extremely lucky to own an original 2003 bottle. This was my signature back in the day and is now my baby that I greedily huff before going to bed. It is precious to me! But for this review, I sprayed 2 pumps. I agree with SailorV that this lies somewhere between vintage and innovative. If this perfume was a woman it would be a young starlet trying to make it big after a couple of precocious indie performances. It's sophisticated, sexy, and playful. The Banana note is edible and the honeysuckle elevates this to a modern masterpiece. I expect that D&G couldn't reformulate this to be close enough to the original due to the changes in the law. The original last eternally (8-12hours) and the creamy sandalwood really shines on the dry down. It leaves a beautiful slightly bubblegummy honeyed almost tuberose floral trail (heliotrope?), and the aldehydes make it sparkle. A beautiful warm and sunny fragrance. A real head turner!

SailorV

I think Sicily got discontinued because it was half retro, half ahead of its time. It opens with a strong blast of soap-bubbly aldehydes, so it feels clean and classic at first. But the banana note gives it a big twist. It's neither a subtle green banana leaf-ish hint, nor an artificial sweet banana candy - it's just the scent of a banana ready to eat, one that is just ripe enough and doesn't have a single brown spot. I also smell another fruity note here that reminds me of apricots. Combining old-school aldehydes with fruits is not common in perfumery, and I love it.
The honeysuckle is also done beautifully, it smells realistic and not sharp like in some other perfumes. It's definitely the outstanding floral in Sicily, but it's incorporated to a bouquet of other bright florals .
Sandalwood warms up the base, but the fragrance still feels fresh and clean through all its life. Heliotrope adds a very light breeze of vanillic sweetness in the final drydown.

Even though they're not really similar, I think this has a few things things in common with D&G EDT ("red cap"). Mainly the aldehydes and sandalwood, and of course the house. I think of Sicily as Red Cap's lighter, floral, summery counterpart. If that one is a fluffy towel, this is a freshly washed bed sheet. Imagine waking up in those fresh linens after you slept under a window next to a honeysuckle plant, and you've got the feeling Sicily conveys.
It develops perfectly fine in winter, but I think like this would be at its best on sunny days. It just feels like sunshine, blue sky and fluffy white clouds.

It's sad that this has gotten so rare. I won't put it on my wishlist for that reason, but I dream about finding a good deal on an intact used bottle. I had two samples of this and one was already a little off in the top notes, so I think you got to be extra careful not to get a turned one.
It would be interesting to try the reissued version, Velvet Sicily, but the price of almost 300€ for 50 ml for a reformulation of an old mainstream perfume does not sit right with me.

cresol

It opens with a screaming aldehyde note. Once it mellows down, it's like the creamiest white floral I've ever smelled. No banana, but definitely an abstract idea of one. It smells like the most luxurious sunscreen ever made. Such a summer scent through and through. Absolutely iconic. If they brought this back I'd buy it all up in a heartbeat.

savianora

Wore this beauty to my high school graduation when it first came out and then became my signature scent until they discontinued it. I’ve been searching for leftover bottles of it at wholesale stores since. I’m dying to own another bottle! I miss this fragrance, truly a one of a kind.

freddinos

It was the year 2003, and I was in my last university year. I remember watching an ad on the tv featuring no other than Monica Belucci, about a new Dolce and Gabbana perfume called Sicily.
From the ad alone I knew this perfume was the one for me, I had to buy it as soon as it was available in stores in my -then- town. I was determined to live on toast for a few weeks but I was going to buy it. I remember riding the bus to the mall, walking to the perfume counter and trying it for the first time. It was exactly what I thought it would have been from that sexy, Italian ad. It was the first time a perfume was so modern (for its time) and unique to me(I hadn’t smelled anything like that ever). I could only afford the 25 ml bottle. I remember paying 49 euros for it, and catching the bus straight back home. For the next few
months I felt a tiny little bit like Monica Belucci when I was wearing Sicily (the audacity of youth!)
I don’t smell banana peel here, but lots of honeysuckle, honeyed pollen and some fizzy aldehydes, but overall it’s very difficult to describe Sicily as a whole. It’s just the kind of alluring fragrance that might make someone smell your clothes after you’ve worn Sicily. Just like in the ad!

kbbyk

It was one of my most anticipated fragrances of all time and it disappointed me bad. Maybe the bottle is a little old so it smells different? I want to like it but the open note is too much for me. The banana note is artificial and too strong. The overall just smells like you spray strong perfume in a mouldy room. I'm sorry but it's gonna sit there untouched.

hopevilla

With all the talk of bananas, sunscreen and tropical white flowers I was expecting something Truth or Dare adjacent. This is not that.

There is a plasticky, chemical top note (albeit a very well done one) but underneath this fragrance is ALIVE. Its like freshly washed hair - you can smell the shampoo (something fresh and faux-floral) but you can also most definitely smell the actual hair itself. This is what I always want musk to smell like, like a living thing, not that weird, synthetic, prickly smell you get in almost every musk-centric scent since the early 90s.

Its also very reminiscent of the smell of a freshly-washed baby (god that sounds creepy!) - all Johnson's baby oil and a dash of powder, but with a warm, very much real, skin smell underneath. I really like this.

crizzy

I smell bananas and musk. Lots of musk. Definitely not for me.

lmwimsatt

Sparkling bananas! That's what this smells like! I couldn't place it probably bc id never tried a perfume with banana as a note. It's funny how it compares itself to no 5. That's not at all what came to mind when I smelled it at 1st. Maybe 22 a bit in the drydown? Idk. It's just the large dose of aldehydes I guess, which is exactly what the description says. I like this a lot but I'm pretty sure my sample was expired. I dont know when this was DC but storage has the biggest impact.

jubuluxe

I am so in love with this that I needed to find the bottles on eBay.
IT is very timeless and classy.

I wish they can bring this back to the market !

Lollia007

As this has been my signature perfume for past 13 years, it took me a good while to decide what to write in my review. Think about the scene from the movie "Malena". Think how Monica Bellucci walks down the street, dressed in a black dress and black tights. She is not overmade. She is natural. She is on her own. But as soon as she gets noticed, there is a reaction: men melt in front of her. Women look at hear in jealousy and hatred, spelling curses over her. Malena has naturally something unique, that simultaneously attracts and causes hatred. As soon as she sits down and puts her cigarette in the lips, men gather around her offering the fire.
I can drag the parallels with D&G "Sicily". For the past 13 years I've been using it, I've received mixed feedbacks from people: there were the ones who melted, and there were the ones who could not tolerate it. Whatever was the reaction, it by no means left people disinterested. After all, it was the "clothing" I felt most comfortable wearing. It made a sweet, feminine and sensual powdery cloud, yet not overwhelming. And the cigarette-smoke-like base notes grounded it to the skin, which made it last veeery very long, and the longer it last, the better it opened.
I am deeply saddened that it is discontinued. I have heard it's restocked in uber-expensive price, however so far I have not found it by me... I think the best alternative for it is Chanel No. 5, however this is a bit too chomogenous, in comparison with "Sicily".

samantham-123

Omg I'm so excited right now i can barely contain it!!
After culling my perfume collection to my absolute faves and a few ok ones; i had enough money to get a near full 50ml bottle of this vintage beauty. The site i bought her from is reputable and their products are genuine as I've shopped their before. A vintage bottle still costed less than the rerelease so go figure lol

Clare101

They have re released this beauty only to make it out of the price range of most ordinary poeple!!

—}—@ darlingbud

Purr, it’s been reformulated as D&G Velvet Collection Sicily.

Dorothy Gale

Warm sirocco wind is muddling orange blossom and jasmin scents together with freshwashed sunheated hair of a brunette. The fragrance is carnal and soapy in the same time. Honey is melting on the sizzling hot stones. This perfume could be a fragrance of the sun itself.

Banana note on top of it is very life affirming. Musk and sandal base of it makes it all firm and solid.

PurrParfumFan

I think D&G brought this back
I was at either Saks, Nordstrom’s, or Neiman Marcus here about 2-3 months ago, and they had a brand new/redesigned bottle of this perfume for sale.
I was floored because I thought it had been discontinued
Has anyone heard anything on this fragrance’s status?

Nomen

Good Lord, this is good. First it's a banana scented soap bar, then it settles to a sweet cream.
Love forever!

SeaAnais

I have an old sample vial of this and it's lovely. Very clean and bright, but not in a squeaky clean way. It brings to mind vacations along the Mediterranean coast and for some reason I always imagine the wearer sporting a bronzed tan and a beautiful, sunkissed glow.

This is the elusive "effortless" glamour that the beauty industry seems obsessed with selling to consumers--how to spend time looking like we didn't spend any time on our hair/makeup/etc, how to look unkempt yet glamorous at the same time.

A previous reviewer compared this to Chanel No. 5. Both are glamorous aldehydes. Chanel No. 5 is, at its core, a scent that demands respect. It is sophisticated and high maintenance. If No. 5 is the affluent young woman with the pearl earrings and the neatly coiffed hair who married a banking executive, Sicily is the younger sister who went to a liberal arts college and lives a bohemian lifestyle, vacationing in Europe and enjoying her worry free, luxurious lifestyle to its fullest.

I love how Sicily blends to the skin. It's a perfect balance of everything--fresh, but not too sharp, distinctive, but not overly so, and sophisticated, but not too much that it's intimidating. It's really a shame that they discontinued it.

Dorange Sense

This is beautiful. Soapy classic like a No. 5 but actually wearable. Not too sweet, just enough that one can call it feminine. A honeysuckle that does not smell like urine. And I love the idea to have a banana note! A tiny bit plasticy though.

I did'nt try the new one and won't. The fact they re-released it as a niche type of scent is a fraud.
Everything was cool about the original. The scent, the price, the bottle, the tv ad. <3
With the latest Gabbana statements… it's not a brand I'd support anymore.

Allora Sicily, it was a pleasure the time you've been around. :./

Olotitan

Sicily was all about the Banana note and the Honeysuckle!

Absolutely sensual unique and highly missed, the new Sicily does not have any banana note in the composition so you be the judge...

Very classy perfume by Nathalie Lorson
D&G should've kept it real with this beauty

MsMixtape

It's all soapy, soapy aldehydes and clean white musk on my skin. Very classy soap, though.

martaisarollingstone

I've seen it in the shops already - it was relaunched!

It must have been reformulated but still a nice, feminine fragrance.

samantham-123

I cant believe im saying this, but i hope they tweak this one JUST a bit, just enough to get rid of the strange petrol smelling intro.
Its as if its just one big mish mash of notes that dont mix together properly. Once they do figure out what to do its magical but that first 30 seconds or so is a little unpleasant.
And if its in the private collection its gonna cost an arm and a leg so thats a bit disappointing.

Blossom_Puff

Stefano Gabbana posted news on his instagram page about the relaunch of Sicily. It will be part of the private collection, the ones in the velvet boxes. Probably will also be reformulated, but i don t think i care ...just want it back.

medusa666

This is one unique smelling fragrance but somehow I detect a chemical plastic note in it which makes it smell almost like cheap perfume. It needs to be remade. Same scent with a different undertone that will finish smoother.

sarah.4

This is my sister's perfume, and it's lovely on her, but it's the distilled essence of what I don't like in perfumes. It's extremely sweet, warm, sensual, and feminine. I'm going to guess it's the banana and honeysuckle that hit that intensely feminine/sexual/dressed-up note. It smells like something Gradisca in Amarcord would wear.

bibidee

I never had the chance to try this when it was available at retail so I only know the scent as a vintage but I do get the hype - it is sensuality in a fragrance - and I'm curious how the reissue will compare. I wouldn't mind if the formula was tweaked a little for a smoother opening if it keeps the warm, slightly spicy, bare skin on clean, sun-dappled sheets feeling it evokes. The teaser pic of the bottle looks like it will be a similar design to their Velvet collection, with a plaque on the front of a rectangular bottle. Really looking forward to this coming back!

Valy in the sky

D&G is bringing Sicily back!!! Sorry I didn't know where to write it, today I saw a post on Stefano Gabbana's Instagram page and a teaser pic of the bottle - I couldn't believe my eyes!!
Hopefully it won't be too different from the original...

Single rose in the forest

All i want to say about this gem is this: D&G managed to make clean scents sexy, sensual ,and very feminine....classy,expensive smelling,unique...not for everyone, not a crowd pleaser. After all these years i never came across to something similar. They REALLY need to bring it BACK...

Marylin Monroe is sitting at a vintage dresser, putting on her favorite gleaming diamond necklace and earrings. Then she walks over to the balcony of her bel air hotel suite and sips on sparkling champagne on a warm summer evening.

Sicily makes me think less of vintage italy; and more old Hollywood glamour. The initial spray is sharp and noxious, and its as if theres a jumble of notes fighting together but dont work, this is where its quite soapy. But after about 30 seconds it melts into a creamy sweet but not sugary warm skin smell.
I was keen to try this after seeing that it was descibed by many as a tropical chanel no 5 type of scent.
But i get nothing of the sort.
I love chanel no5, always have but could never afford a bottle of my own. The only way i can reference this to chanel is that its not sugary sweet or fruity at all,but in the same way as no5, its as feminine as a fragrance can possibly get.

After it settles on the skin, I immediately imagine sparkling diamonds and fizzy champagne which im assuming is the work of thhe aldehydes, its quite lovely.
The nutmeg and floral notes give it a bit of spicy warmth while theres a creamy fruit note there, but its not sweet so Im thinking thats the banana( i have no idea what banana if perfume smells like) but its an interesting effect.
To me the honeysuckle is most prominent in the drydown and its very natural smelling, honeysuckle mixed with a very expensive suntan cream.

I like what theyve done here, to invoke the idea of vintage scents into a modern fragrance and if they were to re release it ide definitely get a bottle, but i dont think ill be hunting down a vintage bottle for several hundred dollars here in Oz.
Sicily is exceptionally feminine, classy and strong.

When i tested it, it almost seemed wrong to be wearing it, while im in my flannel shirt and jeans cleaning the house. I might go back to the seller that i got my sample from and get a 10ml decant to wear on special occasions because this is unique, too unique to never smell again. I know im late to this party ( so late i almost missed it completely) but i really cant understand why they would stop making it, it just seems strange.

Knowing my luck, they WILL bring it back like they did with redcap, but it will be reformulated and watered down.

LesterTheDachshund

Very beautiful and feminine but in a good way, not in a "please like me" way. Very different. I love also the old ad with Monica Bellucci and the ad and its atmosphere suits the scent perfectly

Lyla Rose

Head over heels in love with this amazing and unique scent, Sicily from Dolce & Gabbana.
A very classy and elegant blend with banana's in the center, which is a very unusual and rare note in a scent. The honeysuckle and orangeblossom blend give a soapy, yet very classy touch to it.
Sadly discontinued, I'm enjoying my tester bottle I found lost on a dusty shelf at a boutique near me, I bought a lot of priceless, discontinued gems there.
I find it quite strong for summer, but it will be perfect during spring/ autumn, even winter.
This year we will visit Sicily for the first time and I will take a sample with me. Recommended if you like classy, soapy scents with a tropical vibe.

pepperoniann

To me this is the exact mix of overripe banana accord with strong aldehyde and a hint of spice, namely nutmeg. Very strong and distinct, and has a clear early 2000s vibe to it. During the dry down it becomes warmer, muskier, but never loses its banana heart. There's a smear of tingling freshness but far from a standard galbanum or citrus perfume.

Aldehyde perfumes aren't really my type, but if you like soapy aldehyde scent definitely check this tropical beauty out. There are still minis reasonably priced on eBay ATM.

fernanda nery

Please, please, please, Domenico and Stefano, bring back Sicily !!!

MB25

This was such a beauty. As far as I remember to me it smelled like a fantastic luxury soap.
I bought it around 2003 and then it simply disappeared until I found out later it was discontinued. There are so many dreadful fragrances that have been produced for years and years with no end and occasionally a little gem comes up that is being trashed in a bin after a season.
Shame on you D&G!

Rinio

Sadistic of D&G to discontinue this. Sensual perfume. I wore you among other between 2003-2005. No other perfume excited me as much since. Does anybody know of another perfume that would smell similar? I can´t believe D&G blue is still out there but not "my" Sicily.

stefanie76

I came upon this fragrance because I was looking for something that smelled like soapy skin. This one kept coming up and it really does smell like a more expensive, softer, rounder version of Caress daily silk.

The banana notes are not evident to me. I keep looking for them ... but I can't detect them at all. I smell soft, warm, sensuous, mysterious. And yet clean and fresh too. A perfect, beautiful balance.

I wish the sillage and longevity were more. I find it dissipates quickly and stays close to the skin.

For what I wanted, it is near perfection and will likely be my signature as long as I can find it. Sadly, it is discontinued.

meliecat

I was lucky enough to snatch a 50 ml bottle and got a huge tester absolutely free of charge in a small pharmacy somewhere in the heart of Ireland in 2010. After I overindulged myself with the tester I decided I don`t want to keep the rest of my 50 ml bottle and gave the remaining 30 ml away to a friend..HOW FOOLISH WAS I???

I must admit, to me it came across as a citrusy aldehyde - the bergamot came out very dominant on me and the honeysuckle with it. I can`t recall ANY banana note whatsoever, unless it`s a green, unripe banana barely there, nutmeg and sandalwood on the other hand, and something herbal..like marjoram or basil. When I closed my eyes spraying this on I always pictured myself in Italy (I`ve never been, to date..)
It`s probably the spring-summer perfume with the most backbone; it is strong in character, yet not heavy. I`d love to have a 50 ml bottle now, but as it`s discontinued it has become really expensive..If anyone has a bottle I`d happily swap or purchase it at a reasonable price..

savageinstrangeland

If Chanel were to put out a "Chanel No.5 Tropicale" version, I imagine it would smell something like Sicily. This is a Floral Aldehyde with a special tropical uumph that is just divine!

What the hell was D&G thinking discontinuing this? They brought back Red Cap, if they have any business sense this will be next in line for re-launch. Discontinuing your two best fragrances is a poor judgment call to say the least. Please bring it back!!

NinaGi

This perfume smells like a white soap bar my mom used to buy but I can't remember which one it was. Very disturbing scent, feels like I didn't rinse my hands well enough for the soap scent to evaporate. I can ot say anything more to describe this scent since all I can smell is pure soap. Good longerivity but poor sillage.

TankGirl

Guess who has a local store with a bunch of old stock of Sicily right below my street??? Ding ding ding yezzz its me :D So I moved recently and found this obscure perfumery that has a bunch of old stock and they got several bottles of Sicily! Yey!

This perfume is a love affair to me! It is sweet, flowery, syrupy and intoxicating.
Sicily is not for everyone since it has that vintage honeysuckle that can be a little bit too overpowering. On my skin this is a mix of the honeysuckle with the banana note. The drydown is a beautiful mix of the jasmine and nutmeg. It lasts all day, great sillage. I can see why this was discontinued because D&G is taking a weird turn, look what they did to D&G redcap. Anyway Sicily its definitely a particular scent, it could be a vintage perfume because it doesn't quite fit the time it was released. Its a true gem and stockpile it while its still our there!

cocolover56

Sicily, to me, is a bizzarre fragrance that seems both overhyped and overhyped for a reason. At the start there's elements of candied banana, sweet and joyful. As it dries down it enters the land of Chanel N° 5, with fat aldehydes and musks accompanied by jasmine. I don't say this simply due to the notes being there, it quite honestly smells of a well aged N° 5 EDT which baffles me.

Having never been to Sicily, I can't compare it to the land of Italian traditionality and picturesque sights. To me, this smells of French elegance with some very non-traditional twists and turns. The banana is quite tropical, but blended with the other notes it comes back to aldehydic complexity. It's a straight up tale of a woman in her 30s, wondering the city streets with a beautiful business suit & a Chanel brooch with some YSL heels accompanied by Dior lipstick. She's got money, and she's not afraid to show it off. She wears mismatched colours and, while she comes across as a bit rigid, at home she's like your traditional TV mother

I think D&G hit the nail strongly with this one - it's something you know, and something you don't. Bizarre.

Reminds me a great deal of Linda Evangelista

OceanPlusEarth

Dolce & Gabbana did something very right with this one. But also did something very very wrong to discontinue it. So glad I stocked up just as it was getting hard to find. There's nothing quite like it. Not even close. This one and Rochas Byzance are not common like the Chanels, Diors and the many LVEB smell-a-likes. It's not flowery nor caramel or coffee. It's ... banana! Who would have thought? Ordinary in Winter, warms up in Summer where the sweet banana comes to life. Sicily is mature and quietly beautiful, and right up there in quality, potency and class.

kristen0129

I have bought the mini sprayer soon after it was released, I have got it without testing because there were no testers in our local mall and I was desperate to own a piece of Italian dream pictured in advertisements with Monica Bellucci. I strongly believed I will like it no matter what because at that time I loved everything Italian and having something from Dolce & Gabanna meant a lot.
It was soapy and strong like Chanel 5 which I hated. I can remember sharp orange blossom and sandalwood. It wasn't my type of perfume at all and it caused me terrible headache like everything with aldehydes, but I kept wearing it every day because perfume was warm like sunshine in the midday, that was the only way I could afford the trip to my imaginative Sicily.

kati77

From the oriental / floral or aldehyde / floral category. Durability very good. I have already finished a 1.8ml edp sample.
In the beginning to feel a bit of sun-warming oil, warm, sweet, I suspect it gives a nutmeg. And hyacinth, that combination.
Its really oriental, unusual these perfume are for sure. Bananas do not smell at all and the roses do not smell at all. More hibiscus, heliotrope. And the knob and the door.
I recommend to test whether the name hit? Hmm ... I was in Sicily in Taormina, in 2012, it does not necessarily smell indentical. Just a unique smell.

Donnachka

I have been following fragrantica for many years, and as such I decided to do a blind buy with this perfume several years ago. I still remember the high hopes that I had with this perfume, and that was until my first spray. Is there a banana in there? Yes, but a very faint smell. What stands in front is a classic soapy smell. Not a powdery smell soap that you would expect from a perfume. But, an old school soap bar that you used when you where a little girl. The one that burned your eyes when it got into your eyes. On paper and on my skin this perfume just did not work for me.

xhili

I discovered this scent 6 years ago when i was in high school and it become my favorite . I often buy it in a Cleopatra a fragrance shop on my country , who has the essence and they try to make it like a copy of Sicily and other perfumes . I love it . Never tried the original one because is way to expensive for me . But if the smell is like the one i buy , then this perfume its the class itself .

Contessa01

A hard fragrance to describe and certainly one of its kind. I will start by saying I really think (in my opinion) that this is not a soapy perfume in the classic sense of the word. For me, a soapy perfume is creamy and clean a la Allesandra del Acqua or maybe Jlo Glow. To me this smells salty with the other primary notes being perhaps heliotrope, nutmeg, sandalwood, maybe hyacynth but I struggle to pinpoint the notes with this. I wouldn't blind buy it again in my opinion thinking you are going to smell of banana and honeysuckle because I don't smell this at all personally. But we are all different. I really smell the saltiness, but I like it. It certainly gets compliments.

xaml

In her sandfuls of marriages, has Brooke Logan ever got married on this island? Apart from the wedding dress, which traditionally would have been created especially for this most graceful of occasions, and the salt in the air blessed from the intimate location facing the sea, I have a feeling that this and only this would she have needed to wear.

Lacrimosa

"...as she was coming closer, he could smell the scent of her body mixed with soap..."
I have this phrase in my mind, taken from books, that, to me, really describes the feeling of this perfume.

❀ Sicily opens sour but quickly softens & becomes creamier. There's a slightly heady sweet scent on the background that I guess is the honeysuckle. Overall it is a soapy perfume & you have to be a lover of aldehydes to appreciate it. Sadly, I fell in love after its discontinuation...

Pavlina666

I adore this perfume! Very, very feminine scent, soapy and clean. I feel luxury soap, jasmine, a bit of bergamot, white flowers, and - banana! This scent reminds me of my holiday in Sicily... I'm very sad, that it's not produced anymore. The best fragrance from DG!

perfumeaddiction

I felt compelled to give this one a second review. I have seen several perfumes discontinued and to be honest the majority to my nose are understandable. Nothing outstanding. However that is not at all the case with Sicily. Truly there is absolutely nothing like this one that I have smelled yet. It's such a sweet ripened banana that is teetering gourmand yet it's not syrupy sweet. There is just something there that is so unique and unusual I am totally mind blown that they would have stopped the production on this one. I have found one fragrance with similarities which is Toni Gard but she's discontinued also and more powdery. All these years later and this one still kicks ass. I am savoring my bottle and will never part.

elisabetasilviaclaudia

The ''SICILY''made in the Italian Perfumery is not on sale anymore;made by Procter&Gamble...so....But for those who look for something to remeind them of the old SICILY -try Carolina Herrera Good Girl.

hails_blogger

Sicily, such a beautiful scent. I fell in love with this gem years ago. It's soapy, clean, feminine, oozes luxury and I found always gave many compliments. It's so unique I have never smelt anything like it. I am so sad to see this one discontinued. It's one of those perfumes in my eyes that is a masterpiece.

Perfumeaddict777

Lately whenever i write a review my Google account signs me out and lists my review as written by a guest. So just to be safe, Perfumeaddict777 is writing this, lol;)
Ive been in love with and desiring a bottle of sicily since the first time I've ever tried it, a year ago. Im late to this party! I just got a bottle in a swap (thank you Marissaluvsscents xoxoxoxo). It's georgeous! At first spray i get alot of bubbly soapy orange flower and honey suckle! It's clean and reminds me of being on a boat with the sun shining. Hyacinth comes out soon after the first spray creating a deep intense green smell to the composition. The banana is not sweet candy like but it is unrippened green bananas . The green banana shows up 30 minutes after applying paired with nutmeg making this creamy and soapy! It gets creamier as it wears. It's so unique. Creamy and clean, warm and cold. Very special perfume. Longevity is all day! At least 12 hours. Sillage is strong the first hour and even when i think it's close to the skin, i get whiffs of sicily! I really adore it and think it's a perfect summer scent!

duftdust70

Just bought it because of all the love you guys give it.
First sniff it's really wierd sour smell but i saw Thomas Ouch110 on youtube said the same and boy,the drydown is pure delight. Soft, rich and creamy..
Maybe the opening scared people at the perfume counter..

maltatude

Oh I miss this so much! I was maybe 15 or 16 when this came out and I had to have it, but I was just a girl... now I am ready to wear it and it's so hard to track down.

If I could be guaranteed a healthy fresh bottle, I would buy it again. It's just so lush.

It's got aldehydes, but its no Chanel No 5.

Sicily = robust and sexy (Mediterranean / Donna / Sassy)

C#5 = clean, subtle, lady like, timeless (Grace Kelly in Paris).

RayIna

As a man I can say that this is the sexiest scent for woman.

Rich, soft, creamy, I imagine it as scent of luxury, scent of gold. Reminds on summer, sand beach, event it is scent for colder weather.

It's not easy to find it, but for this quality, worht doing some effort.

tiredstarlings

Very old-school. Soapy florals with a hint of banana. It wasn't a good scent for me, but I could imagine a classy, wealthy woman wearing it.

NeveD

After Oro this is my signature fragrance. I think this is the most beautiful and nicest high-quality rare perfume.
I think this is a masterpiece, that notes the way they cool down OMG! I had a full-size bottle and ended up giving it to my mom because I think that at this particular point in my life I just can't ruin that beautiful and luxury perfume by wearing it. I just don't fell that accomplished to wear such a Sicilian beauty.

Valerie K

Just curious.. Did Dolce & Gabbana ever get around to releasing a masculine version of Sicily? I believe I saw a mention about a possible (future) release by Dr.(Marlen)Harrison in an old Basenotes forum dating back from 2005.

Esmeralda1

This is truly a masterpiece, very rare expensive exclusive touch to it. It is clean and spicy in the same time. So sad they discontinued it, but have to look positive, then more chance of being alone and mysterious with the scent instead of extreme la Belle est vie crazyness out there..
Because thats how i feel while wearing it, mysterious, secretive and magnetic, content independent, sexually free and powerful. Elegant and very feminine, like Monica Belluci the perfect face for this scent..

joplinbaby

This is soo good, smells like expensive soap. everybody says ultra femenine??? C'mon soap is for everyone, good soap, clean vibe here! Go for it boys and girls!

RosieRachel

So, this is essentially the sexiest skin scent ever. It leaves me feeling refreshed and luxurious, like skin warmed underneath the Mediterranean sun. And although this scent does has presence and is a bit strong, it is never overwhelmingly so. I love it.

The perfume opens with the unusual banana note, which doesn't smell fruity or like bananas to me at all; it just gives a soft and unusual sort of creaminess. The white florals are very well-blended, soapy-smelling, peppered with the spicy nutmeg and blanketed by the sparkling aldehydes, which also lend the scent a classical appeal. My skin then radiates some clean-smelling florals and a sensual, creamy sort of warmth, most likely sandalwood, during the dry-down. The smell is very distinct and difficult to describe. I've never smelt anything similar before.

I can't wait to smell the evolution of this scent over time, especially in the summer months. The warmth may encourage some different notes to bloom. I think it would be best then, as I think some of the notes need some sunshine to round out their edges and I really feel like it would make a superb summer perfume. Soft to moderate sillage on me; longevity is for about 6-7 hours.

OK. Just received this today. Bought it on eBay, new sealed in box, which made me skeptical because i found it at a price that seemed too good to be true. However, just ran the batch codes on this one, and it's legit. I'm guessing it might be a reformulation. There's a lot of speculation over whether this one is discontinued, since it's still on the DG site, but not purchasable through resellers. This one was produced in Ju

It's definitely a skin scent, and although banana is listed as the main note here, to my nose it's more soapy. The banana is definitely there. I think it's only emphasized as the main note because banana is so unusual in perfumery that it seems to be the note that stands out the most to us, but it's not the prominent note. The other notes are identifiable.

It's not exactly what I expected. I don't know what I was expecting. Something more "in your face" banana. It does have a retro vibe to it. It's classy and versatile. Clean and feminine smelling. It doesn't project much on me, but I think I like that in this case.

fyre92

Classy banana heaven.

irisjetaime

Madrona

Soapy floral banana. I'm not crazy about this one.

Tjokro

Remembering years ago, I thought this is for men, so I bought it and ... I was wrong. The bottle has firm sharp, but the liquid is so sweet, elegant and full of warmth.

So, I gave it to my mom. On her, it turned out more sophisticated. I never regret that it was a mistake buying.

You can wear it anytime anyplace as long as you want it. If some say perfume is for a certain occasion, ignore them. Perfume is for your soul and your happiness, not for your office, summer or winter.

Sicily has been "un-discontinued", but can only be found at certain D&G stores. :)

This fragrance is not discontinued you can check it on dolcegabbana.com website

I purchased a mini of this (orig formula) The first thought I had when I put it on was SOAP. But a very pleasant soap from when I was younger. Maybe Ivory. It is fresh & soapy.

Miss_Vanity

At first I was cautious, but this one turned out to be a very pleasant surprise. It's definitely not an easily wearable fragrance. I don't know how that happened, but it totally worked on my skin. It's rich, yet light enough to wear on a summer night. Too bad it got discontinued.

Tornerà mai in produzione? Sul sito ufficiale della marca c'è. Chissà.

Along with a ton of boring fresh fragrances being discontinued, pleasant and well-crafted fresh scents being given the axe too. I am affected by Alessandro Dell'Acqua's disappearance and the discontinued state of Sicily - two fresh scents that I actually enjoyed and could wear well.

Sicily feels similar in "vibe" to me as the lovely Alessandro Dell'Acqua. I envision the same clean white linen sheet hanging out to dry, billowing in the breeze on a perfect sunny day when I smell both fragrances. Clean, crisp and serene...

Sicily is less bright than Alessandro; its saunter, though sunny, is quite leisurely and its drydown has a bit of a matte finish in comparison. The musk, conveying a pure white airiness, affects the translation of all the other notes in Sicily. The florals come across as hazy and subdued (instead of heady and sweet) and wood notes, hardly detectable to me, solely seem to be used as a source of support. I smell the banana and it lends a gentle tropical vibe to the scent, while a squirt of lime keeps everything perky for the first hour and a half. Sicily feels ultimately clean and comfortable.

I wish tacky-ass Light Blue could be the one to get canned, but the masses love it so. I'll miss you, Sicily.

Delila

I find this to be a sharp older style perfume. I get mostly nutmeg, followed eventually by older style soap.

For me there's nothing that fulfils the usual definition of "sweet", nor "floral". It's all fresh-spicy, with banana only briefly in the opening. There's certainly nothing "creamy"(!!)

It's also a very resilient scent that does not easily wash off, so it's important to be sure that you like it before investing.

MoreScentsThanSense

Sicily is - for lack of more eloquent description - a luxuriously creamy skin scent.

The top notes are fresh and sparkly with bergamot and the honeysuckle is there right off the bat. On me it doesn't evolve much or really project but lasts a few good hours. The more pronounced notes are the aforementioned honeysuckle, musk and a bit of sandalwood. Of course I was intrigued by the banana note which I haven't encountered much other that in some Escadas and Sira des Indes. It definitely is there and recognizable too but no way juvenile or ''out there'', just adds that playful creaminess.

The overall effect is kind of soapy, but not aquatic/soapy, more like oriental/soapy if that makes sense. Would recommend to those wear Allure EDT, Noa by Cacharel, Lacoste Pour Femme, Emozione by Salvadore Ferragamo or Narcisso Rodriguez Essence de Musk.

Hello! At first, when recalling this scent only by memory, I was sad that it would be unattainable for me to purchase this regularly now that it's discontinued. However. Upon receiving a few samples in the original little boxes from the original formulation, I still understand and appreciate the allure, but I realize this is not for me. However. I did have fun sniffing out the notes with my partner, who is a chef, and he could specifically pick out the green banana note. He enjoyed that aspect of it. However. For me, there's something about the top notes that give me a headache. Something that feels screechy for a few minutes. The truth is that passes quickly and then it's creamy banana soapy goodness, but by that phase, merely 15 minutes into it, it's too late for me. My head hurts :( now don't get me wrong. It's not the fragrance profile. One of my most beloved and often worn scents is Samsara edp with its jasmine opening, ylang ylang, and sandalwood. This is possibly my signature but I have a few other contenders in the Rose family I'm working out. The point is that samsara, like Sicily, share some heavy duty tropical influences. I enjoy them both, but the opening for Sicily makes my head hurt. It worked out. It's not readily available anyway.

By the way my thoughts on vintage or discontinued perfumes has always been that they typically contain the longevity and sillage I crave due to their now banned fixatives. The only thing that comes even close is some heavy hitters in niche perfumery, but even they fall flat sometimes. So, I don't mind dropping the big bucks on a vintage that now days has the properties I desire that you may only see in niche. Also the big bucks.

Id rather spend that on the vintage and pretend it's a niche. Same prices. But much more satisfying. But alas, Sicily did not work out. Maybe I need to focus on obtaining some vintage samsara or the other formulations of it.

I have the 2ml sample spray in its little Sicily EuroItalia box if anyone wants to swap. PM away.

This is my favorite fragrance of all time. I have emptied numerous bottles! I hope they bring it back. It smells like soap and it lasts for days, even on clothes. It matches my skin perfectly and I only need 2 or 3 sprays to last me all day and night long!

CynthiaPOnce

I see that it is on the D&G website but I can't see where I can make a purchase. Any ideas as to what retailer is carrying this? PM me or post on here. Thank you!!

Now this is one serious olfactory design. Released in the "era" when the quality mattered. Yes, it comes in a dull bottle, simple black box and cap, thin letter font... Nothing about it visually screams: "Take me!" (though you would regret missing the chance). But the substance is a treasure in liquid state of matter. I can see it being compared to a whole lotta stuff here... That's fine, cause I've got my own: this one is what all those Chanel fragrances are trying to be. Well, let me put it this way: I like Chanel olfactive philosophy. I like that classy, stand-offish, clean vibe they give off. Sicily is the epitome of such concept, but in a more fun way, than any of them! Yes, it does start soapy, aldehydic, almost retro, but soon enough (oh, give it a few seconds) it comes out with the most creamy "personality" I've ever encountered from a sprayer! Then it comes with that sweet "temper" - not the sugary tiring girly sweet; not even fruity, which usually tends to be irritating in a teeny way. Banana is fruit, I know that much, but it's exactly what gives Sicily that sweet, creamy nature, along with that irresistible honeysuckle blossom and soft sandalwood.
I can see Sicily being voted as an all-year-round fragrance. It's actually my go-to summertime office-friendly scent. It literally blooms in cooled air-conditioned places (and trust me: I gave it a trial in every possible occasion). It does have that Chanelesque decency, so that's what makes it perfect for the business environment, but that crazy banana makes it summery enough like, say Terracotta, only reminding you of the approaching vacation season, just keeping it from being too serious in a tedious way. It balances between soapy-clean and lotion-soft cosmetics "structure", but if you prefer it creamier, here's a tip for you: use it lavishly! The more, the prettier - you just can't go wrong to the too-much side with Sicily! Give it a few extra sprays and enjoy all its goodness for the rest of the day!

Strange how perfume can give you certain feelings.

Sicily gives me a sense of pride.
I'm a proud owner of this Italian jewel.

This perfume has been sitting on the same shelf in our local perfumery since 1999, when I was working there.

I got it 2 years ago, 2013, from that same shelf. Today is the day that I opened it.
I was desperate at first whiff as it has gone bad.

But no wait, a friend told me I smelled heavenly and she closed her eyes and inhaled. I gave her my neck where a different scent was settling. She quickly told me that THAT wasn't what she was smelling. So I gave her my wrist ..... :) she was in awe.

As I got back home I sprayed some more. Give the honeysuckle, nutmeg, Banana and heliotrope some time to calm down as they are all fighting for attention . They all give this balmy, creamy soapiness all at once.

It's a beauty . Just give it a couple of minutes.

So proud.

superlicious

Special perfume, special and original smell. Definitely smell the banana. Beautiful.

AnnaT

i wish D& G brings it back. I will stock up for sure

Perfumefreak

Reading these amazing reviews, so i had to make an order for this Perfume.
I have already D&G Pour Femme and Light Blue. Also amazing perfumes.

Begining to fall in LOVE with Sicily. More and more after a sprizz.

Neverever have I had this kind of a scent.
Mature, creamy and refreshing. Same creamyness as in Fracas. Also a fancy of mine.

samloves

This is my second review on Sicily nothings changed I still love it, it's my all time favourite just want to add a couple of things. Firstly try My Name by Thrusardi which starts out very like Scily but then turns rather sweet but still nice not sickly. Secondly I dream of D&G bringing it back for one day to allow me to buy a life times worth of it.I think all us Sicily lovers should write to D&G and advise them to relaunch it different packaging. Can you imagine walking into John Lewis or Boots one day and seeing it!!! God loves a trier.

Contessa01

Just bought this one, I see its bee discontinued which is annoying. Seriously why does D&G and also fendi discontinue everything good? It's gotten really irritating. Anyway this is a kind of oceany bananary fragrance which is very unique. Honestly, not my favourite but it is loved by many. Actually it reminds me of Sensi abit.

paggeo

What a beauty.... Totally love this one, why was it discontinued? What were they thinking?? I had to resort to buying a " rip off" bottle which for the time being makes me perfectly happy! BRING THIS BACK!!!!!

Jinin

Just love this one!

MarBe

Why would someone think is it fair to stop producing this scent? There;s no summer without it! I have to say that I had it for three years and I can't remember the banana tone in it. ON my skin it was all about white flowers and citrus, the smell of summers in Italy, of ice-cream and fashion, a real feminine playful sexy scent for a woman. I miss it.

suzycurlyq

I used to own this lovely thing and wore it almost every day! It fit me so well. I think it no longer is being made. I could be wrong but what is great is that I think I have found a dupe until I can get my hands on this again.
Melaleuca Mystique reminds me of this and takes me back to that lovely scent. They have similar notes: Rose, African Violet, Jasmine. I don't think that Sicily has violet but oh well that is what is listed for Melaleuca Mystique on their website. I just had a flash of memory when I put Mystique on. It made me so happy! Now I'm on the hunt for Sicily again!

carolynrt

This is so deliciously musky and light at the same time. It's original - I love it. I'm allergic to all things flowery and can't be in the same room as a vase of flowers, so I was heartbroken to discover this was discontinued. PLEASE BRING THIS BACK!!!

mildspicej17u55l

I smelled Sicily not too long ago and at first I thought "weird weird weird". It was like a banana shake coated with bugspray, pine sol and some woods thrown on there. But let it dried and you're rewarded with one hell of a beautiful unique scent. It's a creamy banana and some classic florals. It's a nice one. Unfortunately i think it's discontinued.

10. february 2015

I have had this fragrance in my collection for several years and i never actually understood it. At some point i even wanted to get rid of my 50ml EDP, since i found it very weird. It must have been a change of seasons and at some point i finally got captivated and carried away with a creamy smoothy banana note after trying it again. What at first didn´t impress me, later got me swoon for it. I mean, how weird is it: Sicily and bananas????!! And who wants to smell like bananas anyway? Well i don´t mind now and i see a lot of people do as well. Sicily has a perfect balance within the notes and i believe that thanks to nutmeg creamness and intense heliotrope it becomes so incredibly buttery and smooth that i am in love. I still don´t get any associations with Sicily (been there and i believe the perfume does not refect the real Sicily at all). Lucky for me i don´t get any soapiness at all (nothing reminds me of Chanel nr.5 even distantly, nor i smell any aldehydes!!), just a pure enjoyable fruit-floral combination. I simply enjoy it during colder time of the year, that´s when it shows it´s fll potential and creamness, during hotter period of the year it indeed becomes more soapy and less enjoyable for me, so IMO this is a autumn/winter time perfume. I am lucky enough to get a new 30ml boxed bottle for a steal and will can now enjoy my other bottle more often.
Sillage is incredible and lasting power is great as well, you get at least 12 full hours from 1 spray and it is more than very detectable. A big plus!

My review is for Euroitalia version, not the reformulated P&G prestige version!

NB! There is one thing i would like to stress: there are 2 diferent versions of this fragrance: The original, made by Euroitalia SRL and reformulated, made by Procter&Gamble Prestige. Sicily is still featured on the official DG web site (just checked it today again) and the notes seem to be different, than for the original version: The main ingredients are missing! No banana, no nutmeg, no neroli, no niacynth! I read a lot that it does not smell the same and smell more soapy thatn before and no banana smell left. It is because it does not have it anymore! So please be aware of that, when purchasing this fragrance. You might end up with something different than expected!

sarahwspain

This has to be the most original scent I have ever smelled. It's discontinued but I managed to find a 25 ml. bottle and boy, I don't regret it!

The opening is absolutely terrible though. It smells really bitter and strong and it feels like it doesn't smell of anything specific for a few minutes. But then it starts to develop and that's where the magic begins. The most prominent note here is banana, YES, BANANA! But if you're expecting your typical celebrity fruity fragance you're absolutely wrong. This is a fragance for real women, really strong, sexy and elegant: a very Dolce & Gabbana type of woman. It also smells really expensive.

The banana is combined with the honeysuckle, so there's something honeyish about this, but not in a really sweet way, because it is combined with a floral element, which I think is the heliotrope. There's also a touch of spicy nutmeg, but this is not a spicy scent at all, I think the nutmeg just gives it a warm feeling. I also get some of the orange blossom and the jasmine, but again, it's all blended with a strange tropical vibe from the banana.

This is a MONSTER fragance and I really have no idea as to why D&G discontinued this, but this lasts on my skin for more than a day and much more than that on my clothes. It also has an amazing sillage, so go easy on this one, because it's like being sorrounded by a tropical honeyed floral cloud. There's NOTHING like the experience of wearing this perfume.

If you like strong and sexy original fragances try this one. It's a winner in my book!

Ivyswirl

It smells like Dove soap!

Having found a half full bottle for a fiver, I was pretty thrilled!
Now, as mine is only the deodorant type, (not even edt) I expect its lacking in complexity but so far it's Dove soap with a hint of banana! Would love to compare it to the edp!

Don't get me wrong, I rather love it actually, I've always wanted a Dove perfume but I'd be a bit miffed if I paid a big sum for it as it isn't as complex as I had expected, not seeing much honeysuckle!

Still, despite all of this, it lasted better than quite a few I own!

perfumeaddiction

Editing this a day later to say I can't stop smelling my arm... yummmmmmm

Upon first spritz yuck, not appealing then within 5-10 seconds Banana heaven! This is quite the interesting little number if you can find it. I agree with the review below, I smell Bananas lots of them. My initial impression of this perfume was I liked it very much. I can say that even after dry down I do enjoy it and I have never smelled another fragrance like it. After the initial banana blast it settles into a sweet floral scent. It's not super gourmand sweet but a pretty sweetness. When I spray this I Instantly feel a sense of calm and peace. Not something I find in many of my fragrances.

All in all I am sorry to hear this one has been discontinued but I can see where it would have a selective market. I don't think this fragrance is for everyone. p.s. if purchasing on the second hand market be sure to ask if the perfume has turned. I got a sample that was awful but a full bottle that is perfection.

Yurpdod

Huge aldehydes at the onset, with a sharp accord that smells like banana-scented hairspray. Sicily is a fragrance you would want to let settle for about 5-10 minutes before leaving your home. There is a very luxuriant, tropical effect provided by the banana coexisting with an absolutely gorgeous floral bouquet. The floral notes are sensational, with honeysuckle, heliotrope, and hibiscus turned up to 11 in all of their honeyed, sweet, redolent glory. The base is mostly sandalwood and musk, which are crucial in making this fragrance as sensual and stimulating as it is. Sicily is not sexy just for the sake of sexiness, it is simply a quality inherent to itself.

Due to its heavy aldehydes, Sicily is not the most accessible fragrance in the world, especially to people who might be used to more modern perfumes. Because of this, I don't imagine many women in the year 2014 wanting to smell like this fragrance. Sicily has a very strong personality (not necessarily strong sillage, mind you) and fragrances like it do not seem to be in style with the general population of women. This fragrance has been discontinued for years now, but Dolce and Gabbana still has a page for this fragrance on their website, which is confusing. I also adore the packaging, which is very simple yet chic. The elegant gold tones of the lettering on the bottle and the golden liquid inside perfectly capture the relaxed sunniness of this fragrance.

Sicily is relaxed yet glamorous, and I can imagine Basic Instinct-era Sharon Stone wearing an all-white ensemble, driving a convertible, and wearing Sicily. The women who could truly pull off Sicily are few and far between, but it is an absolutely bewitching fragrance.

hippiechick13

I have no idea why they would have discontinued an audacious, vampy perfume.

This is a brilliant little poem on the flesh - sensuous and soapy, making one think of waves crashing on the shore, and hot sand under the feet. It is also very much a classy piquant, requiring plenty of inhalations and smiles.

This makes me feel optimistic, happy, relaxed, but appealing.

Medea12

Used to be my favorite perfume until I discovered my migraines were a result from wearing Sicily..
It's got a unique scent BUT too bad it's made from SYNTHETIC oils. There's NOTHING natural in it. After a while, once your nose knows natural from synthetic you'll smell a kind of plastic, fuel like smell..It's loaded with aldehydes and chemicals.

PS. Ladies - If you suspect thyroid problems check what kind of perfume you're wearing...

reenpea

I love it! In the dry down it actually reminds me of Vera Wang for men.....bitter and sweet at the same time.

SzekelyEmoke

Very nice and strong aldehydic perfume. :) Best worn with black sophisticated clothes, something that reflects the maturity and the sensuality of a woman, just as this perfume does.
Love the feeling of "italian woman" that it gives to me when I wear it.
Molto spettacolare! ;)

wistfulmaiden

I found a sample of this at my aunt's she used to sell perfumes...I was pleasantly surprised. I expected something called Sicily to smell big and loud and brassy kind of like the housewives of New York. But it wasn't obnoxious at all, it was kind of sweet and to me smells more like something Moroccan than Italian. It doesn't have an herbal quality but more a fruity/spicy scent. Definately banana but I like bananas and I cant think of any other scent with bananas! YI like it even though its not something Id wear all the time.

PerfumePatty

I'm olive skinned from Sicilian heritage, and was really hoping Sicily would be just right for me, but I tried it today and found it far too soapy for my liking. It is a soft and clean scent, but not the sexy Mediterranean scent I was anticipating. On my skin, it's 85% Ivory Soap, 5% banana peel, 5% honeysuckle, 5% D&G Red Cap.

personagrata

I really cannot understand why this House has discontinued all their Special perfumes, like sicily, by, the one in the plain glass bottle and the Red cup d&g. Nowdays there is not a single d&g perfume that I like. They all seem to me sickely sweet or so common and generic.
As for sicily, there was not a single thing I did not like. The bottle, the advert, the name, the color and of course the scent itself. It was so unique! And yes, I smell bananas too, which makes it so exotic. This smell had an amazing effect on men and I don t only mean the kind comments. They went crazy about it!
I can t say there is a perfume now on the House of D&G that I kind of like. Never buy anything for their collection again. I tried but...
Please bring it back!

michenka

Sicily is advertised on Dolce Gabbana official site but is not available on the shop on line store

Pear77

Sicily is available on D&G official site!!

Autumn Plum

A series of unfortunate events led me to this one. Basically I'm desperate for a good summer scent, since god knows I have too much of a fixation on fall scents lately (yes I know, my name is Autumn, teheehee). So after seeking it out exhaustively and finding a good perfume stall, my first impression was that it smelled like nothing other than bug repellent with a weird, citrusy tang. So I dismissed it and never thought of it again.

Unfortunately I'd ordered a small sample which I assumed had been cancelled but showed up anyway. So I tried it on and asked for a second opinion, and subsequently thought my grandmother was on crack because she described it as "light", then I smelled it on me, and the lingering affect was actually pleasant…and being a wordy person, when I say pleasant I mean pleasant. As in, " I feel like I'm lounging on a beach chair in the middle of a balmy day surrounded by cypresses,( dunno why cypresses, I just go with it) while the sun smiles down on me and I smile up at it", kind of pleasant if you get my drift. The odd, repellent smell mellowed out into a laid-back Banana smell which was nicely counterbalanced by the mature Sandalwood and the spicier Nutmeg. Basically I feel like what I am when I decide to wear it. A young girl strutting down the street of a small town looking for some fun diversion, which all seems mostly innocent at first, until you realize my idea of fun is giggling while watching men gape from behind a steering wheel. To me, this scent basically defines a languid summer's day, with a hint of a excitement in the air.

Elysia

It was a blind buy for me based on reviews only, I went for a 5 ml sample. I'm not a big aldehydes fan, maybe too young to be able to appreciate them but this one became a great favourite. Somehow the sour and sweet ingredients come together on my skin in a gorgeous combination that makes my heart beat faster every time I get a whiff of it (not overstated, it stays close to the skin) While lifting my mood, it also makes me feel sexy and seductive. I must add I bought it during winter and though it wasn't really cold where I live, it was under 0 Celsius many times and I still enjoyed this scent. It reminded me of warmer days. I imagined myself in a colorful summer dress being in Sicily, having fun, charmed by the sunlight and the scent of the sea.

BillyJean

When this perfume was released it stroke a chord with me. I was always a fan of Mario Puzo The Godfather book. I had romantic images of Sicily in my head and whenever at the library I would reach for an album showing photos of religious processions walking down cobble stone streets of Palermo. I loved the Monica Belluci advertisement and the elegant black and gold capped bottle. And the scent for some reason brought memories from the past but I could not quite put my finger on them. My husband dismissed the fragrance as too powdery and said it's made for a warm climate. And this is so true. It blooms in the heat. In cold weather it really has a laundry soap quality about it but in the heat it really is quite amazing. I never got any banana from this. Also when released this fragrance was an obvious flop and reviews were really low. Now that it has been discontinued only the loyal fanbase is left so ratings are high. Get a bottle while you can and spray some on after a shower on a hot Summer day. Clean sexy and decadent.

Jerine123

There is nothing like Sicily! It is gorgeous, seductive and warm. Just look at all the reviews and 498 people who have put it on their "want" list just on this site alone. Hope that's a hint for Dolce? D&G are you listening???? I love this fragrance and because you cant get it any longer, I keep mine well sealed in a dark place to wear as a special treat. Yes, it absolutely reminds of Italy and truly is an intoxicating fragrance which lasts and lasts. Hope this makes a non-reformulated comeback, it is amazing!!!!

zzMaja

This was one of my favorites. I understand it has been discontinued. I do not buy the vintage bottles because I can detect the slightest changes from the original. If there is anything similar out there today, I will give it a try. It is a soft, feminine and distinct EDP and I put it in my love category. I have a really hard time deciphering the notes in this one, but on me it is very soft and powdery and I get an almost green banana scent that lingers.

pvfp

What high hopes I had for Sicily, being a huge fan of Dolce & Gabbana, Italy, sandalwood, and the incomparably sexy Monica Bellucci. Maybe my expectations and personal projections were too unrealistic when I bought this (for too high a price!) on eBay but this was a big let down. Not unpleasant, not unwearable, but a huge disappointment just the same. On my skin, this is not the deliciously warm scent of voluptuous Italian femininity I'd imagined it to be... it's the echo of all the "soft musk" fragrances I wore as a girl. White musk and nothing but more white musk, powdery and soft. Luckily, the scent isn't offensive because though it sits fairly close to my skin, it's showing remarkable tenacity. (One good spritz, applied 8 hours ago.)

Though I've often joked about wishing to recpature my youth, I never meant going quite this far back in the time machine! Seventh grade, it was nice to visit you again, if only for a few hours.

Janey1966

I received a 1.5ml sample of this today from Ebay. I realised beforehand that it's been discontinued (along with the original 'Red' that I used to love) and I'm sat here thinking, 'Why?' All fragrances that I have loved (Gloria by Cacharel is another good example) have been discontinued, and yet we are subjected to awful 'celebrity' perfumes. Is this because they are cheaper to produce or what? People like me want 'classy' not 'brashy' thank you very much...and I'm confident I'd still say this if I was 18! This perfume is gorgeous..that's all I have to say. Shame on D&G for discontinuing it.

Daivuce

I don't know what to make of Sicily. I've bought half a bottle on ebay a while ago and I think the scent has turned or something. There is this white sediment at the bottom of the bottle..
The scent is sweet and got some apealing notes to my nose, however there is something else about it that makes pull away, a note that is screaming at me with fakeness, like spiced syntetic honey. No matter how long I wait for it to go away, it never does. I wonder if it's because the scent has turned? Anyway I'm getting headaches from this one, what a shame.

Pari88

Ahh yes! After skipping through the guide, I came across Malena. A most beautiful dramatic film starring Monica Belluci. As i watched this utterly misunderstood character, I knew she would have worn Sicily. Gorgeous, curvaceious, wanted, sexy, humble, solemn, shy and kind, not at all provacative, flirty or longing for attention. Malena needed no validation except the one from her beloved. She loved only one although many loved her. Sicily is a real honest and gorgeous woman. True through and through, although many look passed her personality and only at her provacative beauty. The film is central to the idea of her one and only true love and her faithfulness to him, and her pain and suffering being misunderstood. Sicily with its sprakling note and maternal like creamy smell, drydown to create a round smell; honeysuckle is warm with an exotic like smell mimicking tiare and banana creme almost, and sandalwood with slightly powder tinges finishing it off. Exotic, maternal, calm, warm, a golden sunlight in mid day.

recently i bought Sicily it was my dream to find it while iwas going asking for something else i found it and couldn't believe it start with hint of banana with some fume of old lady remind me slightly of youth dew then after five minutes it dries down to very lovely powdery perfume remind much prada infusion de iris very beautiful
so my advice is to spray it on your clothes fifteen minutes before you go or on your skin till the first notes go and enjoy perfect charming powdery scent grate one

I think this one is pretty masculine! The right guy could totally pull it off!
First of all, the banana. Like wtf.... but then it gets peeled, slightly digested (haha sorry for this imagery) and gives over the front seat to......
Alf Lail o Lail by Ajmal. These two are so similar it's Si(ci)lly. See what I did there??

So if any of you are missing Sicily, try the attar. You will like and recognise the notes. For you that think Sicily is too sweet or too synthetic? Try the attar. I kid you not.

It is a fairly sunny, soapy scent. Pleasant.
But not in my top ten. I don't dislike it either and it's definitely not meh, just not me :-)

I ended up craving this so much that I bought a 100ml bottle. Waiting for it to arrive. I have now changed from "like" to "love" :-)

Midnight00

Unique, dashing and bold perfume with a Mediterranean breeze to it. Too bad it's loaded with synthetic aroma oils..:(
The scent is strong and of course lasts for days due to its chemical composition...
If you find yourselves feeling dizzy or having some kind of headache - don't guess..It's the perfume and ALL synthetic perfumes are terrible for our health.
Again, I love this fragrance but wish that at least it would have more natural oils in it. Some synthetic and natural is better than no natural at all..

supernal light

What a divine fragrance, quite strange and midnight magical and yet so mediterranean summer's day - both at the same time !! so unlike any other scent, totally unique and lovely.

A sweet, soapy... and grown-up fragrance.

Sicily by Dolce & Gabbana is an interesting one. It comes across as very summery and soapy, almost like the smell of creamy suntan lotion on warm skin on the beach. It has a very creamy banana note paired with jasmine and musk. I would describe it as a grown-up fragrance to wear because of the aldehyde vibe, which can come across as a little strong and formal (for boardrooms and business meetings), however I think anyone could pretty much wear it. It maybe have a kind of a strong, classic perfume vibe in my opinion but it certainly has it's place.

This perfume is SO extraordinary special, that's it's still wrapped up and hidden in my closet for a very ,and I mean,VERY special time in my life. I'm thinking when me and my husband and our kids move to a different country once he gets another offer. Or when we go on a really long trip. But I'm thinking,no,it has to be a different country foe quiet a long time and not just vacation. This is how special this is. It's the scent that will open that special chapter in our lives. The opening scent. :)

Dolce & Gabbana Sicily
I just have been dreaming I was in a Fellini movie last night because my first thought when I woke up was, “I need to wear Sicily today.” I pulled a black vintage 1950s crepe silk and lace pintuck dress out of my closet, pinned back my Bardot bedroom hair and added some black cat-tail eyeliner and super long eyelashes. Without meaning to, I look exactly like the woman in the Sicily video.
This fragrance is utterly sexy because of the heat it emits. The nutmeg and wood combine so beautifully with the flowers in a “clean” smelling base, that it is truly sexy. I like it much more after the initial banana note wears off and the floral heart appears, but I especially love the warm spicy wood dry down. It’s elegant and warm, and fits those va-va-voom vampy retro days perfectly!

marily

I read someone said that you wear this perfume laying naked on bed and feels like you are wearing diamonds!!!Yes I feel exactly just like that!!!Sicily is an elegant, luxurious, sophisticated, classic scent, wearing only in very special occassions like as the sicily is....Every woman must have this to her perfume collection,it's a treasure!!!! Finally, Monica Bellucci is the most elegant woman who can represent what the sicily is

Sicily has quickly become one of my all-time favorites. I'll admit I was put off for just a moment when I sprayed it on initially. I thought maybe my bottle had turned. Anyone who has this same experience, I urge you to please wait it out!

It dries down to a wonderful creamy honeysuckle, sandalwood. I get some of the hibiscus notes, this is interesting because it's not a note I have experienced before. I don't get any rose or musk, which is nice because I think rose is over used and most musks don't work on my skin.

I'm not sure where people are getting the banana note. I personally don't smell it. Maybe it's the power of suggestion? Since this website lists it as a note, the juice is the color of bananas, Sicily is a semi-tropical place... I have a tester bottle that lists the notes on the back of the bottle and banana isn't listed. It's not listed on D&G's Website either. If you're looking for a fragrances with banana in it, test first. This may not be what you're looking for.

The longevity and sillage are wonderful but not overwhelming. I've been cherishing every drop because I've heard Sicily has been discontinued. Have to stock up!

bobbydrugan

Was really looking forward to this and when I seen it on cheapsmells I nabbed it.....all I get is ellnet hairspray, clean but still ellnet :-)

eickarumba

Baby wipes! That's all I get from this one. No citrus or banana. Just that soapy-powdery blast from opening a container of baby wipes.

epicurean

I bought a very cheap bottle of this based on the notes listed in the hope of finding a spicy summer fragrance. Sadly this isn't working on me. I can detect some of the notes but I'm getting an overwhelming whiff of acidic powdery, diesel. I can't wait to scrub this off.

sonia.kassambara

It does last forever. But the scent was like a rotting citrus tree falling own on me. It didn''t smell bad; actually, I think the composition was good. It was just not suited for my skin or my personality. I gave it to an older friend who loved it. Most fragrances don't give me a headache, but this one did.

Not sure what to think when Nathalie Lorson created Sicily in 2003. Maybe he was on a trip to Italy or going through a very happy moment of his life, in France. Honestly, consistency and sovereignty of Sicily are the perfumes of the 90's, namely, perfumes and well designed with a specific purpose not necessarily in that order. In its launch year are also disclosed coffee Juicy New Haarlem and roots intriguing Bvlgari Omnia, besides the desired Moschino Couture and so on. Well Sicily is quite complex in its way to be as up front Nutmeg oil is toast with ripe bananas, still in the husks, something amazing feeling evolving. The Bergamot and Orange flowers give off a burning, must be because they see a large amount, but that feeling soon passes and Sicily continues to grow amid stalks of Hyacinth and Rose Petal Musk wrinkled with concentration, ultimately it is very evident the performance of the perennial Sandalwood added Banana ranging in profitability in harmony with the skin, which just learning to know. Actually, Sicily enchants to know dancing with the notes that compose it, they all go early, middle and end in the same bar at the same time as that go a exact path was not in his plans, and in fact are not. Super suitable for the most formal, but at the same time see the edge of a beautiful pool, as the Public Swimming Pool in Paris, described in The Adventures of Pi, under a serene sunset on a gorgeous day. Sicily and fixed, but the project itself how fixed would be more-than-perfect, but this does not affect its essence, its core, instead, makes it engaging and unique in its way of being Sicily.

I dedicate this review to my Friend Fatima!

I bought this when I was flying home from Prague, and thought that maybe Sicily would smell like this. Loved the scent. Couple years after I went to Sicily, and the island smelled like the fragrance. I was smelling jasmines at the hotel balcony at night, fresh oranges and lemons. When I was staring the hot lava coming from Etna, I thought that they really captured the scent of this beautiful island in a bottle. If Sicily wasn't discontinued, I would have bought it just to remember the spirit of true Sicily. I still don't remember any bananas..

littlepepperz

I don't understand why this is still on D&G's website - I managed to get myself a bottle of this beauty from Cheapsmells. I saw it there, I bought it immediately.

And my oh my do I love this. I love this SO much. I sniffed it years ago when it was still widely available and had been beating myself up for not buying it then for years now.
I remember seeing the ad with Monica Bellucci. She is my favourite woman on the planet. (Coming from a straight person). And I don't even care if she really wore this perfume in the ad - but if she did - it makes me strangely happy to know there could be a link between us two. I guess it's just like these men sniffing her underwear, in a way... I know, weird!

Anyway, I do not get too much banana from this, I am convinced that this is a banana illusion, if there is such a thing, the combination of honeysuckle, soapy heliotrope/jasmine and florals/bergamot create this banana magic.

This is a grown woman's scent and no doubt Monica Bellucci is the perfect face+body+spirit for this scent. Now if you excuse me, I sprayed this on me, so I'm going to wear a black lace dress, heels and sip on some full bodied, Sicilian wine.

nazza28

Mmmm this is like a spicy banana cream popsicle, delicious and creamy. It's amazing it really does smell like banana! Love its unusual-ness!

Edit: Woke up in the middle of the night and sniffed my arm, the dreamy creaminess of this scent was still there in the crook of my arm. Not only is this gorgeous, it really lasts!

Sicily---I had very high hopes for this. It has all the right selling points and I thought it can replace any of my top five. It is Sicilian alright. It is multi-faceted. Fierce but soft. Vulgar yet with inner natural grace. Domineering but will willingly submit. It is so complex and it moves me to feel all sorts of emotions. One minute I like it and next thing I know I am scrubbing it off. It has all these maternal qualities but it makes me feel whorish in a way.

I smell warm golden skin with traces of finely milled soap and Johnson's baby oil. It draws me in a way I can't even explain to myself. It smells differently depending on where you put it. On exposed skin it smells warm and deliciously oriental. On skin covered with clothes, the nutmeg takes the stage so it smells fresh and quite masculine but still very sexy. This fragrance is not for kids and those who want to smell like a baby. It is for a woman who embraces her womanity----the good and the bad.

I think I may be falling in love with this. I hated it on the first sniff and good things happen when that happens. Almost always.

FuzzyRush

My signature scent and favourite perfume of all time!So annoyed that it's discontinued:-(
Sometimes it smells sultry and heavy and other times it suggests soft, powdery freshness.
It is the only perfume I have never gotten tired of.

I definitely detect a hint of coconut in there, although no-one else I know does!!
Just gorgeous.

Marinaki,

Δοκίμασε το zara for her(ροζ μπουκάλι).

Marinaki

Oh my god!! i Love it! So unique, warm and Female, that's why they choose Monica. this should be called Womanity for me!! It would be my signature frag but i cant find it in Greece :/

nellyrlight

very sexy..LOVE it!

nikelady

Anyone knows where I can get this in Nigeria? Am crazy about this fragrance but it looks like its been discontinued.

Rapunzel2

At first a blast of diesel fuel, (road to Palermo?) then slightly rotting fruit peels followed by a medicinal dry down.

woodlandwalk

I got a sample of this because I like the idea of a creamy floral with a hint of lemon and under-ripe banana, but unfortunately that's not what I'm getting from this.

I have quite dry skin so perhaps the softer elements are not developing. I find this a bit dated somehow - it has an 80s feel, it's very slightly powdery and the lemon is, I'm afraid, a bit sharp, possibly a bit like lemon bon bons - head-achey.

When I hear that a perfume is 'creamy' I expect something like the floral note in Penhaligon's Amaranthine, which is very soft (hate the dry down in Amaranthine though, too fecal and ammonia-like for me) Sicily doesn't have that creaminess

(I have a new 2ml sample of this if anyone would like to swap)

Being of Sicilian descent, someone gave me a bottle of this a couple years ago. One whiff and I thought, "oh no, way too strong and overwhelming." Put it away.

Fast forward to two years later, I had moved and was unwrapping perfume bottles and saw the full bottle of Sicily. Thought, oh what the heck, let me try this again. I was shocked. It was so dreamy. I'm not sure because it was sitting around for a couple years that maybe the fragrance metamorphisized or something. Or maybe my skin changed. Or maybe my sense of smell changed. Not sure. Whatever happened, it was now very light, very creamy, clean-smelling, slightly sweet, and very, very sensual. I get lots of compliments from strangers.

It does evoke the times I did spend in Sicily - warm mediterranean nights, smell of citrus, warm friendly sensual people.

I am glad I never gave it away; I adore it!

freddinos

I have a love-hate relationship with this amazing creation, depending on the day. It is dipped in honey and dusted with pollen, faintly citrusy and balmy, almost powdery but without iris or baby powder notes, sexy with Monica Belucci being a very appropriate woman to advertise it back in early 2000's. I remember the tv ad, in the end of that short film the protagonist was desperately smelling Monica Bellucci's fragranced chemise, that was randomly sweeped in front of him on the ground by a closing door. Interestingly I find Sicily smelling better when sprayed on my clothes, without interacting with my skin. Could be my chemistry. I have purchased it many times, and now have one last bottle, too bad it is discontinued. I cannot smell the bananas I'm afraid, maybe some green, unripe banana skin?

Shimone

I spritzed this on this morning,it smells amazing.....my description of Sicily is a powdery mixture of Chanel No.5 and bananas.....on "MY SKIN!"

samloves

Now sadly gone to the perfume graveyard. I can't begin to count the amount of times people walked up to me in pubs, bars, shops school playground and asked me what I was wearing! It smells like freshly washed laundry, and the dry down was warm powdery, not a baby powder just a warm comforting one. Can't pick up any of the notes. Why go on its discontinued so its not like this review is going to make you rush out and buy it, if only. Shame on you D&G

Update: I read a review that Zara for Her smells just like Sicily and yes it does, the dry down is possibly a teeny bit sweeter than the original but thats not a bad thing. I am now the new owner of a 100ml bottle of Zara for Her.

incandescent

The opening is pretty harsh like previous reviewers have noted, but after a few minutes, it gives way to a unique, subtly sweet blend of fresh green bananas, ivory soap, a hint of nutmeg, sweet honeysuckle, citrus zest, and then a powdered sandalwood and creamy musk as a base. A scent with character. Fine soap, luxury body talc and sun-warmed female skin with a dollop of semi-sweet vanilla cream. The overall effect is sunny, warm, clean and feminine. Classy, yet comfortable, bold and ambitious, yet fuzzy and well-rounded, opulent, yet down-to-earth...and it lingers softly around you the whole day. A distinctive scent that will wear well all year round, night or day, although better suited for day-time.

I imagine that this is a scent that fits with a certain image of the ideal Mediterranean woman, aged say around 25-45. She's warm, well-mannered, intellectual, and genuine, with a very strong sense of who she is, never afraid to speak her mind when she needs to. Guts of steel hidden underneath a soft and sensuous exterior. Cosmopolitan and cultured, but maintains her pride in traditional values and never forgets her roots. She could be a homemaker, a graduate student, or a career woman, it doesn't matter, her core is the same. This is the kind of woman that I imagine will give life to this perfume.

JUST FOR FUN: This scent is such a perfect match for women born under the Earth signs (Virgo, Capricorn and Taurus). The scent has that 'rational and grounded' feel to it that complements these signs' qualities really well, without skimping on sensuality. It also goes well with qualities of a Libra. The Leo woman would enjoy this scent for summer when she needs a break from dramatic scents, but still want a perfume that makes her feel opulent and sensuous.

Mozartiana

I could never sense bananas in Sicily. I love this perfume, and fortunately, I got to snatch the last bottle from Sephora shelf couple of months ago. Beats me why they discontinued it, I had the impression that it was popular. Obviously, I was wrong. It has that soapy feeling in it, and I can smell tuberose and gardenia, a bit of iris and musk. Lemons - yes, definitely, it goes without saying. It is the core of this perfume and they stay strong. The edt longevity is significant, on my skin (pale white, Caucasian), it stays true 6-7 hours.

Museumgal

There are dry bananas here and lovely soapy white florals. The banana isn't overwhelming or tropical just something you get a whiff of every once in a while. The nutmeg adds enough spiciness to make this a very complex, classy scent. It's also very white floral creamy. Good for day or night, very versatile.

melanie

See 1aspasia, IMO is the dominant note of banana, as the noses are different! It's amazing the world of fragrances!

Turtledove

Mochahantas got it perfectly, Sicily is bananas, Ivory soap, and a twist of honey and musk. The opening is terrifying, once it settles it's quieter but still distinctive with great sillage. It's softly sweet like bananas, with a gentle oily/salty kind of musk. I keep thinking of who might wear it, and the image that pops into my head is a put-together real estate agent touring new houses, I think it might have a subtle fresh paint/new house kind of smell in there somewhere too. It's very different, it would probably make a lovely signature for someone, but it's not for me, I was expecting a little more warmth and spice and a little less soap.

busik

I'm the same as you describe: sad, soapy banana. Nutmeg flavoring spice. The database is soft and pretty, but she has to live up to. And banana is a synthetic. Even more like some kind of unusual acidity , juicy, and caught her nose. tasty base, only with live.'s a very unusual flavor I would be on trying and trying .... until the bottle is finished;)))
