This opens spicy and aromatic in such a smolderingly intense way it's almost metallic, before eventually developing a softer woody and vaguely balsamic smoothness in the dry down. The floral accord here isn't pretty and delicate, but sharp and unapologetic, with minimal sweetness. Similarly, the powdery accord is crisp, cool, and unsentimental—though it does become softer and more approachable in the dry down.

The overall effect is sharp and incisive. Savvy. Major HBIC energy: briefcase, pumps, and deep red lipstick from a bullet tube. Would like her name on the door, a manicure, and for Gary from HR to get his shit together—preferably yesterday.

If Cake's Short Skirt/Long Jacket was a fragrance.

This is an update of my previous 2021 review.

I have an almost entirely full 25ml bottle that I don't reach for. If anyone loves it and wants to buy it then please PM me.

Aeternitas

I barely skimmed the 80's, I was born in 1989. But in my childhood, I caught whiffs of Fendi on my mother and grandmother. It's so exuberantly Italian!
I grew up a short while in Italy and this scent, along with the later 90's D&G Red Cap, are the stuff of my nostalgia. AND YES, you can bet I have my own bottles and wear them today, because I love them.
Dated? Of course. Scents like these are a remnant of their time, and whether we like the term "dated" or not, let's be honest: the glory days of gems like these are over, but they don't go unappreciated by people like me... even if I get the "old lady" comments, haha.

Anyway, back to Fendi.
She's a take-charge woman in an all-black designer skirt-suit, fitted with gold buttons and shoulder pads that could cut through a doorframe.
The initial blast of Fendi is like a shattered vase of lush roses strewn about a marble floor, which this stern-faced, model-esque woman is now trampling through with her sleek black pumps. She has no time to waste; be damned the chaos around her. She will trample you, too, if you get in her way.
But when she is done carrying out her plans and going about her business, she retreats home to get comfortable, where she relaxes in a bath and carries out her nightly routine.

So, yes... Fendi is an aldehydic dark rose boss queen, overpowering at first.
The magic is about 30 minutes in, where you get these spicy rich, honeyed florals that loom warmly on your skin. Fendi then becomes rather sensual and reveals its core to you, going from a black panther on the prowl to a black kitten purring in your ear.

A work of art. I'm really happy that my skin brings out the rose so strongly, because it ends up smelling a bit on the gothic side. Definitely something I gravitate towards on a cold day when I'm wearing black and feeling rather commanding.

Nothing else smells like this. In my rather large collection this is one of two fragrances that transports me (to 2004 or 2005, even though it took me 20 years to come to it) -- the other fragrance is the feminine Benetton Colors in clear bottle with various colored name text, which transports me back to 1987 around when it came out. I bought a vintage well preserved unused bottle of 100 ml edp Fendi Donna Classic / this one on eBay and have noticed that the oakmoss softens to reveal a more ambery base which I prefer, in time. I guess Josephine from Rancé 1795 is also a transport fragrance, to around 2006 in St. Petersburg where I bought it. Just to give an idea of my taste and trajectory in perfume.

FruitDiet

For those missing this baroque and beautiful scent, Diptyque's underappreciated Oud Palao is very close to it. It has the same spiced apple tobacco fruitiness, leather, and intense animalics and immediately recalled Fendi to me . CdG's great Floriental is also similar albeit more streamlined and minimalist.

rene.saller

Another breathtaking floral chypre. I sprayed this precious vintage Fendi EDT on a handkerchief for some ad hoc aromatherapy. I have discovered that when I'm testing a new fragrance, I'd just as soon use a clean handkerchief as a test strip. It lasts a lot longer than it does on my skin, which means I can enjoy a small amount for a much longer duration. This is so well-blended that nothing jumps out at you; you just pause to admire the way the ylang-ylang, rose, geranium, woods, and spices converge in an agreeable and enigmatic aroma. Pure class!

imseptember

Live, laugh, LOVE this perfume, it's so woody with a hint of vanilla.. and.. spicy?! Somehow they just blend so well... Whenever I wear this perfume I think that I'm some slutty teen from the early 00's. Overall, easiest 20/10

Despite my fear of the potential migraine THREAT that I thought that this beauty may have on me now, I decided that THREAT be DAMNED and took the plunge to revisit this blast from the past this week. I had a 1.7oz EDT bottle back in ‘90/‘91 and I certainly loved it back then, this being BEFORE certain notes in fragrances would send me into migraine HELL (I have deduced this sudden switch occurred when I got Mono in 1992, because thereafter is when certain scents began to trigger migraines, which I had NEVER had before in my entire life). Anyway….I hadn’t had a whiff of Fendi since I finished off that bottle of mine and moved on to the fresh and aquatic scents that dominated in the mid ‘90’s. So yeah, it had been a good 30+ yrs ago since I’ve smelled it.

I acquired a perfectly preserved mini bottle that arrived just a couple of days ago and BAM!! Instantly I was transported back 3 decades. Smells EXACTLY as I remember. AND…whaddayaknow? NO MIGRAINE! Very pleased!

EDIT 6/25/23: trying this out again today to analyze it further…

Initial blast is menthol-y (the cypress perhaps??), quickly followed by a melange of spices that are very zingy and anchored beautifully by the amber and patchouli in the base. And quite frankly, in general, I am NOT a fan of decipherable patchouli AT ALL in frags, but in this case, it absolutely works and is necessary as it is very integral to the composition. The carnation and geranium are the florals I’m picking up in the heart the most. The rose, ylang ylang, jasmine and lily of the valley are not the stars here, they are in the backseat for the first 10 minutes, and are hardly making their presence known. This is all in the first 10 minutes on my wrist.

45 min into the experience, the cypress has toned down, but everything else has stayed fairly linear, but def NOT at all in a boring way. As described by others here, this sophisticated lady is a narcotic. You will find yourself putting your nose to wherever you had applied it, and you’ll do this without even thinking about it…

With all of that said, at this point, I’d say that while this is a still a definite MASTERPIECE, I don’t see myself wearing it on a regular basis as I once did. This is definitely not a summer scent (despite the fact that I’m trying it in the summer). It is much too spicy, too dense and heady for warm weather, this juice is very much suited for late fall and winter. It likely wouldn’t be one I’d reach for often, only on occasion. She is much too powerful and bold for everyday wear for most. In a sea of gourmands that are currently dominating, should you wear this beauty out and about, prepare yourself. You WILL, POINT BLANK, be noticed….

This frag is a DEFINITE MUST to have for anyone that collects 80’s vintages. It is BOLD and POWERFUL, but like no other of that era.

I agree on the assessments below that this def is unisex and I’d actually love to smell it on a man…now I just need to find one willing to test it out. Haha..

My Grandmother’s signature scent. Though not for me personally, it will always be magically comforting because scent is memory. I would buy little vials here and there from eBay to surprise my Grandma, but it has been awhile since I have found affordable ones. At a lively 86, she still talks about this scent and she would be utterly overjoyed to wear it once more, and I need to renew my search. I recently found something in the same DNA line and plan to purchase that Tocca Cleopatra(?) for her to try…it instantly made me think of her perfume and I hope she feels the same.

Daisy76421!

It is lovely to see so many people who appreciate this amazing and rare vintage scent from Fendi. I happen to have a large full 3.4 fl oz/ 100ml bottle with the box available. It is like new and has been cared for since I first found it in an estate sale. If anyone is interested in purchasing, I am willing to negotiate a fair price. I have seen how much it is going for on ebay (up to 675.00 last I checked), but I would rather it go to a place where it is appreciated, so I am willing to come down a bit in that respect. Message me if interested!

Salkavalka

I blind bought a 25 ml bottle today and I'm still hesitating what to make of it. It's distinctive and impressive to start with: very (very!) spicy, dryish chypre. But then there is that harsh smoky note, which reminds me of Gres Cabochard and sadly doesn't agree with me. Someone mentioned bugspray earlier, and I kind of get that too, in a way. Is it the coriander?
But then again, I cannot stop sniffing my wrist, and the more I sniff, the more I'm lured by this scent. It develops on skin and becomes sweeter, like spicy rose scent, but with woodsmoke and leather in the background. Kind of boozy, too, like a glass of quality cognac. It's feminine and masculine at the same time, which makes it interesting.
After an hour it's still going strong and I'm head over heels in love with it. Can't imagine this being worn in McDonald's or some other cheap place. It requires opera, art gallery or a party. Fendi is a sultry, classy and mysterious experience, definitely worth the effort of finding a bottle, or two. Or three.

misslupearl620

I dream of this scent more often than I should. Elegant, unique and so classy. One of the longest-lasting scents that I have ever worn in my entire life. Collector's item.. I would love to get my hands on it! if there is a collector out there selling this, please please consider me 1st:-)

When I was a kid my next door neighbor had a bottle of this in her bathroom; every time I used the bathroom I put my nose up to the nozzle. My memory is that it smelled like a full on woman. Like someone with grace, and secrets. I used to dream of having my own bathroom with my own grownup perfume in it one day. Now this kind of fragrance reminds of being a child, imagining being a woman... time is not real

Selfscentred

Woke up and just knew I had to wear this beauty today. The original is pure magic and unlike anything else. It’s a floral chypre with ORIENTAL written all over. When I first encountered it in my youth, I was torn. I loved it very much on others, but the coriander in the opening was overpowering and I just couldn't wear it mysef. Fast forward till 10 years ago, where I smelled this glorious cloud of seductive spicyness on a lady in a theatre. I instantly recognised it and knew I had to give it another try. Luckily, I found a mini with the original juice a few months later and it's magnificent. My skin still seems to amp up the coriander in the opening, but not as much as it used to and it is followed by an effortlessly elegant mix of leather, cardamom and oldschool carnations. The dry down is to die for with more spices, resins and an oakmoss hard to come by these days. Fendi is huge, both in terms of sillage, longevity and allure and one dab is more than enough. Sexy, seductive and selfassured as few. They just don't make them like this any more.

Alces Alces

Wow. I found an old bottle of Fendi exactly like the one in the picture here in some things that I left behind when I moved away from my parents' house in a small town in East Texas. It is a masterpiece and then some. I can't pick out individual notes exactly, but the blend of whatever is in it manages to smell spicy, floral, soapy, and comforting all at once. If I were twenty like I was when I first got this, I would say it was "sexy" because of its strength and beauty. This is an edt that manages to blow away most of the edps I have.

This type of spicy kitchen sink floral chypre always works for me. My husband loves this scent because it is an old-school classic. It does remind me of Coco by Chanel in some ways, but this is lighter and not as syrupy. I also see why some compare it to the modern Cartier Panthere, but that one is a musk bomb on me (❤). Fendi reminds me the most of VINTAGE Avon Imari, which used to be so, so good before they updated it. I can't believe how much this goes for on eBay now. Am I actually wearing a $529 perfume while lying in bed with my husband and dogs watching Clerks III?
Wow, right?

Militza

Thank you for sharing that Furiosa comes close to the original Fendi. I have searched for anything that does. The original was a masterpiece in my opinion and went well w a leather jacket. I wrote a review for it a long time ago and someone just had to say right after me that it smells like bug spray. It never did. It was complex and had incredible stages. I wrote a day ago about a man’s cologne and again someone made some insulting remarks. No one has to agree in these reviews but if they feel the need to disagree, try to do it with class.

MrsMRe

UPDATE: I recently found Fendi Furiosa at a discount and bought it blind. I was surprised by how similar it is to the original Fendi/Fendi despite the different notes. It's got that same sophisticated, sexy-spicy vibe. It's not an exact match, but is the closest I've found in decades of searching (and that includes the reformulation).

FlorecitaBonita

I agree with this being more "unisex" and that confirms why I found it so intoxicating and SEXY almost sexual for me as a woman.
It's definitely femenine as well, so no you don't smell like a guy, it has very notable "powdery" notes but not in the way I expected, it does not smell like "grandma".. [that's not bad but you know what I mean]
the powdery notes in "grandma" is comforting,
the powdery notes here are "sensual"..... notable, and extremely sophisticated.
The entrance is a bit citrus? it's fresh, so she's not dull, she's also youthful [didn't say young or a teen]
the end part..... !!! its very animalic, earthy, masculine?
which confuses but blends so well.... it's spicy, leathery, sandalwood,
dark, mysterious....... so who is she???!

you really can't tell... yes, she's femenine, yes
she has a dark side,
she's confident, the masculine side that makes this unisex is what blends her softness
with her dark side, her powerful side which also
becomes alluring......

To top it all... it smells EXPENSIVE
she has class.....

I see her wearing black, stillettos... or not...
I can't tell.. geesh...

all I can say is that I kept smelling the paper I sprayed it on, then my wrist....
you keep smelling and smelling...you definitely like it or you wouldn't be so intrigued...
but what is it?
then you realize
you know what, who cares!
she's the type of woman that I man would fall for...
all the flower girls, all the girls that smell like fruits, the super fruity, girly, florals,
or the fresh ones.... but then this one?
who is she.... who knows... we do know
she's intriguing, sophisticated

we want to go to her house... see how she lives,
we want to have a conversation with her... what is she hiding under her sleeve?

is she a CIA agent traveling the world and chosen because her beauty and her femeninity will not give her away...
or is she a hidden writer?
we might never know....

we will remember "That Woman"..... she smelled AMAZING....
how did it smell? ...hmm.... I don't know... it was exotic but soft....
alluring.....

nerzan

Incredible timeless classic. I have one full bottle 100ml. If anyone interested PM me.

Created back in 1985, at the time (i was a teen) it was all the rage, and it deserved its huge success.
In the Eighties, those bold, strong, heady and screaming-out-loud frags ruled.
So we were all wearing that stuff (Poison, Loulou, Krizia, Diva, Opium), dressed in miniskirts, padded shoulder blazers, bold golden jewellery and big fluffy curly hair.
Minimalism was yet an unknown concept LoL.

I was given a bottle of Fendi as a present in the late Eighties - felt so flattered as it meant I was a "grown up" girl and not a teen.
It is a BOLD fragrance, and draws instant attention.
It's a chypre with a spicy/oriental vocation.
The flowers in it play a smaller role... the drydown is a classic oriental, with resins, moss, tonka.
Feminine, dry, spicy, sensual.
Incredible staying power. I loved it to bits and I am still mourning its discontinuation.

A great frag that you need to smell to have a taste of the Eighties!

vintages

The most beautiful women's fragrance I know. It is an elegant ladie's fragrance. the opposite of a bitch and party scent. There are many ingredients, mixed very well, but none of the notes are outstanding. If someone asked me how did she smell? My answer would be, I don't know - but it was overwhelming, smooth, and beautiful. Fendi is inoffensive, not weak, not intrusive, no flower-bouquet scent, no musk bomb, not lemony, not too sweet, not too dry. it's marvelous, but it has been discontinued. I suspect it has to do with new restrictions, maybe some of the ingredients are on the index and banned, and maybe it's impossible to recreate with other ingredients. 10/10

Ever had your heart broken halfway through a meal in an Indian restaurant and, in a mess of tears, accidentally knocked over the little vase of flowers into the chutney?.....Well, this is what that smells like!
It makes me very hungry, very sad and a little nervous about taking the night bus home alone. I don't miss my 20s ;D

diego.lesgart

Other icon saddly discontinued. No explanatior for dissapearing it. A marvellous fragance with great imprint, seductive and drunking, intoxicant force s field. Misty, woody, spicy, ... an expensive blend with some natural floristic or herbal narcotic. Why Fendi made several Fan di and careless this masterprice???

maiamaria31

Nah.. Not my cup of tea. I tried to like it but I just can’t. I think it’s too spicy for me. Also I don’t feel like it is suitable for my age. I think my granny would rock it. I’m not denying the fact that is a masterpiece, it is. Just not to me. Projection is huge. Sillage is great. Longevity is even better. If you’re into vintage, strong, spicy frags, this is the one for you!

ginandrice

Review based on a 4.5ml mini, likely from the late 80’s.

Until the citrus top notes burn off, I find this a bit rank. The sourness of the fruit mixes with the coriander and cardamom and comes out a bit…puke-ish (sorry). Fortunately, the situation improves over time.

After about half an hour I kind of start to get an Indian cooking vibe from this—the lack of sweetness in Fendi causing the spices to pull a bit savory. From the mid notes I get mainly tangy cypress, with a little bit of dusty carnation and just a hint of sharp, perfume-y rose. Very little sweetness to speak of.

Overall, Fendi is a strange combination of murky-sour, spicy, warm, and dry, with just a whiff of sweetness well into the dry down. Opium is an all-time favorite of mine and I don't see the resemblance at all.

Of course, it’s also possible that my little mini has been altered by time.

Sethsears

Fruity but not sweet, spiced but not spicy, all with a light tinge of incense; all of this combines with the alcoholic base of the perfume to create the overall impression of a wine-like scent. It's sweet but not in a cloying way, with a definite incense or spice undertone. It might be one of the fruitiest perfumes I've ever tried, but like I said, it's not fruity in the fresh, sweet kind of way- it smells, well, like flowers and wine.

I was just a teenage girl in the late 1980s, shy, a virgin, who lived in the countryside and was going out for a date for the first time with a guy who looked very promising. I didn't wear perfumes, but that day I wanted something special for a special night. I took Fendi hidden from my mom and spread it all over my body - several times, on the whole body -
completely unaware of what I was doing, I just wanted to feel confident, haha. My date was waiting for me across the street when I left the house. He got out of the car and came towards me and I noticed that he already smelled my perfume from afar. When we got in the car, he jokingly announced: "I know what perfume you're wearing: it's Fendi! My mom wears this perfume too."

Austrian_in_Denmark

Is my nose off?
Rather than the expected moss or spices or carnation or leather, I get incense. Especially in the beginning. After a while, the spices join in, but more than anything else, Fendi is deep and serene incense on my skin.

I find it beautiful, even though I cannot identify with it - and thus never end up spraying it. Fendi is one of those scents I would prefer to smell around me or on someone else to wearing them myself.

Fendi is very impressive, serious and mature. So far from most new releases that it is a real experience. When I smell it, I picture a stunning Italian widow, staring out of a window into a darkening garden.
Strong and longlasting. Try it if you get the opportunity.

Angeldaisy

25ml EDT. No idea the vintage. I can smells roses from the cap. On application, slightly sharp soapy aldehydes! lots of aldehydes.
Far less sweet and cloying than Coco or powerful as Opium, but of the same era.
Warmth. Bitter and a touch of sweetness.

This smells of the 1980's.
Reminds me of sneaking up the red carpeted stairs and sitting in the Theatre bar where my bestie worked while the productions were on and he would mix us "dry white wine spritzers!" with a shameless flourish. A parody of his job during every interval for the Theatre ladies, who would rustle in an hour later and smell like this, order said tipple. Ah happy days.

I love the dry down, earthy, warm soft spices envelope the oakmoss, sueded leather, woods. I can smell the cypress. not so much florals to my nose, perhaps a dusty geranium rose. I have yesterday's Diorella still going strong on my other wrist and Fendi is less sweet than that . Fendi teeters on the edge of an Oriental by association (reminds me of Byzance!) and Coco.

Classic 1980s Chypre.

Moreluvr

My goodness this juice is divine! Everyone else has described this far better than I could. Be careful applying. I have always thought if a little is good, more is better. This isn't a watered down fruity floral. She has everything and not one aspect of it needs any improvement. Not dated either. Just a dab will do-then be prepared to have your mind blown.

christianne1

The original vintage Fendi is just outrageously fantastic, no idea why it doesn’t have the same status in the fragrance community as Opium and the like. It’s an almost narcotic oriental chypre, spices, leather, carnation and oakmoss and everything but the kitchen sink. It’s an 80s powerhouse and a little dab will do ya, nobody is going to miss your scent. It’s sexy, slinky but also a bit shoulder pad glam. I bought either a reformulation or a fake about 5 years ago and it was a pale color and smelled nothing like Fendi. You want the old amber colored stuff. It will knock your socks off. Back in the day we didn’t think “unisex”, this was made for women but now when I smell it I realize just how amazing it would smell on a man. This was my signature scent for years and every time I smell it again I realize why. Not many things can equal Fendi in my opinion.

bevren

Thank you Nikoz for the tip about the Fendi dupe. I've found it online. How the hell do they get away with that Fendi lookalike packaging?

PLUMPIE

This is such a stunning scent it reminds me of a more peppery cinnamony Opium at the start and softens to a smokey spicier version of Ungaro Diva. It's one of those cool warmth polarizing aloof chypres along the same lines as EL Knowing or Paloma but more oriental spicy with an earthiness with the chic glamour.

my name is mimi

I have just been reunited with this after 32 years- it's even more beautiful than I remember.

*Sigh* - how can I wear anything else now? Bella Donna - you have stolen my heart again.

MrsMRe

I worked in an edgy little fashion boutique when I was in college in the late 80s and the original Fendi was my signature fragrance. Quite a few customers asked if I was brewing cinnamon tea in the back office before I realized the scent was me.

It was the perfect balance of warm, sweet, and spicy. The chypre component added a touch of dryness so that the effect was sophisticated and sexy without being cloying. The reformulation breaks my heart. It's loud, chemically, and lacks the balance and synthesis of notes that made the original an icon.

Gelindee

I have a bottle of Fendi perfume that I purchased in 1998. I’ve treasured it and only worn it once or twice a year. I will never be able to afford it now. I absolutely crave the cool wet forest soil under decaying leaves and conifers in fall sunshine smell of it. It transports me. On my skin it lasts forever, getting sweeter and deeper and even earthier with something like mossy granite. It is caves and secrets and insects in amber and ancient knowledge brought to light in a scent.

nikoz

Anyone missing this fragrance would be advised to try BBNY fendi dupe,it is uncannily similar, not very strong or long lasting but it is dirt cheap and you can douse yourself in it for the price( about £8 for 100mls)highly recommended!!

Incognito

I have a big tube of Fendi lotion, purchased several years ago at either Marshall's or TJ Maxx because I remembered how great it smelled on a friend. Sometimes I just open the top and sniff it because I do admire it as an unforgettable statement fragrance. However, I absolutely cannot wear it because it lasts too long, too strong on me.

Annemarie

Every month or two I wander into a local thrift shop, one of the few in my area that sells perfume. Occasionally I pick up a few things of mild interest. Vintage Lentheric Tweed. Dior J'adore of unknown age. Old bits and pieces from Revlon.

Today it was two bottles each containing about 10mls. One was Dior Poison EDT and the other was Fendi EDP. $5 each. I bought both.

I knew that Fendi is a much loved and lamented d/c cult classic but had not smelled it before. I have no history with it. Now I see why people love it and claim that there is nothing else like it. I recognise bits of it - the moss, the subtle and austere leather, the spicy carnation, the warm semi-sweet amber - but agree that smelling them all out of one bottle is unusual.

I love chypres more than orientals and this feels like more oriental than chypre to me. But everything is done with a relatively restrained hand and that allows me to enjoy Fendi. Fendi reminds me of Opium a little, but Opium was always too much of a heavy-lidded oriental for my liking.

The longevity is great but I did not get the nuclear-strength sillage from Fendi that some people describe. Best sprayed with caution though.

I'm not embarrassed by my luck in picking up Fendi for a song. Countless times on blogs and forums I read of people discovering treasures like this, whereas mostly all I see is stuff from Vera Wang and Beyoncé and the like. So I've decided that it's my turn and I'm going to enjoy it!

I used to be insane over this fragrance; so different and distinctive and unlike any other fragrance on the market at that time. It was powerful stuff so you really had to use a light hand. Even one spritz could be too much, so I used to spray once on a cotton ball and apply it that way or stick the cotton ball in my bra. Even then most people could smell me coming a mile away, which is why I eventually stopped wearing it. Not everyone was as enamored with it as I was, and some even told me it made them feel ill. When it gave one friend a horrible asthma attack (I thought I would have to take him to the hospital), I knew I had to stop wearing it around family and friends. Unfortunately, since I am usually around them, and would never wear a fragrance like this to work, I rarely get a chance to wear it anymore.

Vintage Fendi is loved by many for good reasons, the reform seems less popular. I know only the original and have no interest in the newer version.
Anyway, Fendi is powerfully spicy and warm and recalls the even more beautiful Teatro alla Scala by Krizia.
F. has good sillage and longevity. This is a big perfume, glorious in it's strength and intensity. But it's also very wearable when applied with a light hand.
Personally I'd like to roll in it, Fendi is that good.

I'm updating my review below, since I managed to find a small bottle of this juice. Might be a vintage one, since this is pretty deep and rich, just like the original was.

This is screaming to me: Welcome to the 80's! I will grab you and will never let you go! And suddenly I'm 16 again, travelling around the world and searching for myself.

As for the scent itself, there is pretty much everything in this one. Spices, leather and carnation may dominate, but there's so many other things going on as well. A very rich, warm, deep and quite dark scent. But not the usual kind of "dark" which they produce today, very unique instead.

The 80's is here again, and while the scent lasts and lasts and lasts, I'm stuck in the 80's. In a good way.

This one by Fendi is very nostalgic to me. This is the very first designer perfume that I bought to myself when I was around 15. And I bought a big 100 ml bottle right away.

I still remember how powerful, warm and spicy, so full of everything, this was to me. I did not regocognice any "official" scent categories such as oriental back then, so I just found this so exitingly exotic. I simply adored this!

I made a long trip accross Italy when I was 16 and had my FB of this with me. Memories from the trip and from my teenage years still come floating back if I ever catch someone wearing this. Such a unique scent.

I have no idea what happened to my big Fendi bottle later on. I guess I gave it to a friend or relative when the 90's new wave of "modern" perfumes came around and this was considered old fashioned (I was only 18 at the time, so I still went with the masses, pretty understandable).

Now I'm craving for this one: this and all the memories from the teenage years. How I wish I could still find this (vintage version) somewhere.

tandaina

Well this was a happy accident.

I bought a half full bottle of a vintage fragrance on eBay. When the box arrived it was SOAKED with perfume and smelled... not at all how I expected. When I opened it up I found a half full (it must have started out totally full) bottle of Fendi! (NOT what I had ordered).

I was so enchanted with the scent that filled my mailbox/office though that I started looking for other vintage bottles online (as obviously I would send this one back, it wasn't what I ordered!).

Lucky for me the seller didn't want a leaky bottle shipped back through the mail system and told me to keep Fendi. What a gorgeous fragrace. Spicy, fresh, but warm. I'm wearing it on a bright, warm, sunny spring day and it is perfect. Old school, yes. But I consider that a *good* thing. There's no sugar bomb here. This is a fragrance for a woman who knows what she wants and goes for it.

One spray of the EDT and even sitting outside in the breeze I am totally enveloped in scent. They certainly don't make them like this anymore.

loraxsix

I have the original vintage edt. This scent I remember from childhood. It's bold yet soothing. Leather, spices, and so much more that is very well blended. Very sexy. A little goes a long way! The scent of many new wave girls, clubs, and parties! By today's standards, I think it's easily unisex. Last all day and night. Smells amazing on a leather jacket.

Rachelann

Bought this in 1985 duty free in Singapore. A roll on pen. Slick parfum oil. It was an extravagant buy for a 15 yr old. I have never forgotten it nor found anything like it. Why something so beautiful was discontinued and replaced with such a poor substitute I cannot understand. If you find an original. Buy it!!

camden-girl

Wow this is all about the long slow dry down.
Very sensual , softly spicy with rose leather and sandalwood with an underlying non sweet vanilla and warm amber.
This one to me could be unisex possibly.
At first sniff it seems loud but confident, after 15
Mins it's more velvety with a set of complex base notes
That are heavenly.

Classy a tad retro going towards oriental for ladies not girls.

9/10 for amazing scent
11/10 for lasting power (edp)
11/10 spillage , gently wafts all around you.

I have a vintage mini of this and im adoring it sooooo much! Its rich and leathery and perfectly blended, not big and sweet to my nose. I want it but how can i tell which bottle is vintage and which is new and in your wise opinions, rubbish???

sharon.ramsey.900

came across a 5ml bottle in a charity shop and it's the vintage one , absolutely love it, will only be used for special occasions, new formulation dosen't compare 3

I own a big, vintage bottle of this - and I've only worn it a few times, as I've only finally really grown into it. My mom was a teacher and tutor, and a good one, at a small private school in Miami, and the lovely Hispanic madres would give her these huge bottles of expensive perfume for Christmas for getting their niñas to read beautifully. Sadly for her, she was allergic to scent - for me, not so much! I'd end up with full size bottles of the latest Dior: Poison, and more - and one of the gifts was a big bottle of Fendi. Probably circa '85 or '86. It was, like the previous reviewer, too much for me back then. I had a girlfriend who loved to spray it on, but i knew then that I would have to grow into it. Boy, have I ever! It's a powerhouse on me, so I can only spray the tiniest bit and dab it, so I imagine it will last forever... I hope so. I won't go into notes on me, even to wax poetic. Just know that the vintage Fendi, if you can ever get your hands on a good bottle, is FABULOUS. Fragrant Christmas hugs to all!!

There is nothing like Fendi. Everything I am about to say is about the original. Steer clear of the current formulation: it is terrible. It is insipid. It is absolute dreck. It is a pidgeon who should have been born a peacock. It is a drag queen in a conservative skirt suit who dreams of sequin-studded gowns and mink stoles.

This was my mother’s signature scent throughout my childhood, though I hated it as a child. She had a bit of a heavy hand, and I remember crying and refusing to hug and kiss her when she wore it lest some of the stink rubbed off onto me. My sister felt much the same way, so over the years, she began wearing the lighter, more generic 90’s scents like Clinique Happy on the day-to-day. For special occasions, however, she remained loyal to Fendi until it was discontinued in the early 2000s.

Strangely enough, I did not appreciate this until I was in my 30s, almost two decades after it was discontinued. I’d started becoming very seriously interested in perfume in my late 20s, but even then, I considered this scent to be TOO BIG and TOO MUCH, very old-fashioned, although it did not repel me as it did in my childhood. However, once I started getting into niche perfumes and stalking fragrance forums, I heard fragrance nerd after fragrance nerd reminisce about vintage Fendi, and I found myself growing curious. I wondered if Fendi would smell different now that I had a more refined “palate”, so-to-speak.

For Christmas 2013, I bought my mother a vintage dabber bottle from the 80s. She dabbed a bit on her wrists, inhaled, and cried. She insists that the fragrance has changed with age though she cannot quite articulate how, though it is similar enough to trigger “scent memories” of that era. For her, it is tied to an era where she felt lots of unconditional love: from her two young daughters and her husband. She and my father struggled financially until I was a teenager, but she would put on Fendi and feel glamorous even in our shabby home. Her nose has changed a lot over the years to prefer lighter, more herbal scents, so she does not wear this frequently despite the good memories.

While I cannot speak to the way this juice smelled when it was fresh, my impression of Fendi has changed A LOT since I was a kid. Man, I LOVE this. Every time I visit home, I deliberately don’t wear perfume (which for me is like leaving the house naked!) so I can splash this on and without anything to dilute the experience. It is way more floral than my usual taste, but it does not cause dysphoria. It’s the rare floral I can wear on both boy days and girl days. Even though the florals are BIG on my skin (my chemistry exaggerates florals), the warm animalic base is the star, and it is perfectly unisex.

On my girl days, Fendi is a socialite who stops by her lover’s house on her way to meet her husband at a charity dinner and doesn’t bother to shower in between. She tries to cover up the scent of passion with a spritz of floral perfume before she slips back into her conservative cocktail dress, but underneath the proper exterior is something animal, something femme fatale. On boy days, Fendi is the socialite’s young, virile lover, sneaking away from another illicit encounter. He smells like leather and sweat and her classic perfume, which has rubbed off onto his skin during their tryst.

From the start, this is a blast of amber and spice. I do not detect any citrus, save for something that could be orange blossom. I suspect this is what my mother is referring to when she says that age has changed the fragrance (I have heard citrus notes are usually the first to go in vintages). The florals are big and white, hovering on the edge of powderiness, but never quite going into “old-lady” territory. I think the iris/carnation/rose mix is what made this smell like “granny” perfume to me as a child, though to my more experienced nose there is enough jasmine skank to make the floral component a little more risque.

Oh, but the basenotes are what makes Fendi for me. There is so much nuance at the base! Amber always shines on my chemistry, but THIS amber is exquisite, somehow so much deeper and more ancient than modern amber--I swear I can literally see a chunk of amber when I sniff this. The patchouli so much skankier and smokier. The vetiver dirtier, balancing the resins without ever turning Fendi green. The basenotes are what make this a unisex fragrance to my nose. They are strong enough to balance the florals so the perfume smells less like a specific gender and more like forbidden sex in a secret garden.

Fendi has excellent performance. The sillage is incredible: apply lightly to your pulse points, this wafts. It easily lingers for an entire day on my skin, longer in my hair. I actually prefer to dab this in my armpits (I wear a natural salt deodorant that is unscented, so it doesn’t affect the smell of my perfumes), then use the almost-dry dabber on my wrists, which I then press to my neck. This makes a big scent like Fendi a lot more discreet and modern-day wearable--and I actually find it wears better in my pits than on my wrists. It mixes with my own scent in a way that emphasizes the animalic nature of this perfume.

A masterpiece. One day I will own a bottle of my own. Until then, I’ll keep sneaking dabs of my mother’s bottle and smelling my own armpits with a look of bliss on my face and waxing poetic on the Internet, I guess....

I remember liking the original when I was 16 or so. For some reason I think it's really over the top bug spray scent.

RoyalPerez516

My mother has a vintage bottle of this. She has had it since i was but a little bugger. I am trying to steal it but every time i go over she hides it, she has seen the twinkle in my eye whenever I spritz some on my arm. Amazing old school golden era in-you-face gorgeous womanly and SEXY fragrance!

Hija

The reformulated version (EDT) can be described in three words: It is awful.
The widely available, current version has nothing to do with the beautiful original-
The reformulated one smells of cheap bathroom cleaner, I am sorry to be unable to say anything positive about it - but it is really bad - go for the vintage or dupe oils and save your money on this disaster.

StarryNightNo5

I LOVE this FENDI - MY ALL TIME FAVORITE Fendi!!!
Please, oh Please, Fendi, bring this awesome fragrance back!!!
LOVE LOVE LOVE
MISS MISS MISS
Hopefully, someday Fendi will bring this out of the discontinued status.
It's gorgeous, pow in your face fragrance is so luscious and such a feel-good feeling when you wear it!
So classy and timeless...
Will always cherish the memories of my father gifting me this perfume (in the '80's for Christmas). He has since passed away (2003) - To me this fragrance will always have a special place in my heart! :)
Loving other Fendi also: Fan di Fendi and L'Acquarossa
I think with Fendi, you just cannot go wrong!

Sade800

My favourite perfume that I have been wearing for 20 years.

I now have half a 100ml bottle left that I wear only on special occasions due to it being discontinued.

There is nothing like Fendi and I feel like this perfume was made just for me.

It's strong and in your face but in a very Italian and classy way.

I wish they would bring it back!

Vintage EDT Splash Mini

For a long time vintage Fendi eluded me. I always heard its praises since the 80s but never got around to trying it until now.(2017)

An opening of coriander, and dry woods with cardamom open and cypress peeks through. On paper this really shouldnt work as its notes were arranged so atypical to 80s aesthetics. It wasnt a huge nuclear floral or oriental. It was a different chypre with class. It almost veers into a mans scent but its softer. I really think the comparison to Teatro Alla Scalla is off because there is just so much honey, fruits and oriental spice going on where Fendi is really dry compared to Teatro. If there is a realm of this perfume it is closer to Coco in the way a marvelously constructed perfume makes a moving whole than its parts.

The spicy carnation and geranium emerge and the two are just gorgeous. Ylang and a bit of jasmine add to the heart. Drydown of patchouli, sandalwood, oakmoss and cedar give it the base. Its a really nice woody fragrance with some kind of wood in the 3 stages and it just harmonizes so well

I dont think there is anything that smells like Fendi. She is in a class all her own. If I had to compare it to a modern formulation on the market, Galaad by Lubin would have to be in the galaxy. But even then, it falls a little short. Beautiful, Sophisticated, and unique. God bless her for existing. If anyone has a full bottle.. let me know. :)

FENDI

Fendi

Year

1985

If you liked Krizia Teatro Alla Scala, this is almost exactly like it, with a heavier spicier and woodsier as well as more floral body. It possesses a dignified, exotic and regal air, Italianate in character, glamorous and unisex. I can't tell you how much I love this perfume. I began wearing it around 1986. This perfume is a 1980's go big or go home kind of fragrance, and it was selling at the same time as Chanel's Coco. In fact, one could alternate between Coco & Fendi, as both are 2 different colored evening gowns to wear to soirees & galas. Coco is a burgundy colored backless off the shoulder gown and Fendi is a velvet emerald green. This is one of the most luxurious perfumes whose million dollar charms can still win you over today.

The first spritz is aldehydes which take some getting used to but which segue into spices of coriander and fresh invigorating old time perfume staple signature notes of citruses. Then I detect coriander and cardamom ginger. These spicier notes take over before the citruses and later the florals become too sweet. Lacking in iris flower, orris root and multiple roses or violets, this perfume never turns into a stereotypical feminine powder scent. It's nothing like those 1980's "make up bag" perfumes like Yves Saint Laurent Paris. I hate comparing fragrances but if it comes with a category it's of course a chypre and has more in common with 80s chypre like Paco Rabanne La Nuit. In today's context this is a unisex cologne for the evening. It has a citrusy start very similar to guy colognes with citrus. The spices of coriander, cardamom and additional distinct spices, not to mention vetiver, patchouli, woods, musk, and leather give it a powerful base, and it's strong, long lasting and hefty. It sort of reminds me of shoulder pads on women's business suits in the 80's. I would have loved to have worn this to court when I was an attorney at that time but this had such a sexy, glamorous feel to it that it could only be worn at parties and dinners.

For me this is not a floral fragrance as it is a chypre. It's definitely green with patchouli and vetiver, deep with amber and fragrant with woodsy notes. The florals come and go and consist of a jasmine, a carnation and geranium. I don't detect any roses at all. The carnation and jasmine are similar to those in Krizia Teatro but they are not as sweet because the honey note in Krizia sweeten them up. In Fendi, the jasmine is more indolic an Oriental in nature. The geranium is pretty much the same geranium you get out of men's colognes with geranium notes. There is a clean polished air, don't know if it's the flowers but it has a very elegant and no nonsense air, nothing like sweet powdery puff flowers at all. There's also this night time, nocturnal atmosphere. It smells like the night. Chypres tend to do that anyways. It's leathery, musky, and even contains a note of cypress. I love cypress! The patchouli matches up with the cypress and the dark green theme is so obviously there, hence my imagining a dark green gown.

Fendi is mature and grown up, a perfume of successful women, intelligent women, sophisticated women, and world weary women. It definitely has the Italian woman thing going on and I can smell it on actresses like Isabella Rossellini although it also smells as I imagine it would smell on French actresses like Audrey Tatou or Marion Cotillard. A beautiful chypre with so much going on for it for the woman with a lot going on for her. I used to wear this perfume because my partner wore so much Coco by Chanel that I couldn't wear that one myself when we went out together. So I wore Fendi and she loved it on me. I always received many compliments from both men and women. This was as close to a fragrance of real power without being obnoxious (even for an 80's perfume). Today it's harder to find the original but if you can get your hands on it, go for it. It's such a great vintage masterpiece and worthy of being in your collection. As a perfume compared to many other blockbuster fragrances i.e. Coco, Opium, Tabu, this one is a tad underrated but should be praised for it's amazing qualities. I highly recommend it.

Happy123

What can I say ... I read numerous sad comments on the internet about the discontinued Fendi and the plee to "bring it back" ... and I'm one of them. Do not be fooled by the Ea De Toilette version ... it's NOTHING like the EDP ... it stinks ... a completely different perfume.
The EDP is a beautiful spicy and sweet perfume, but not a smokey raw type of spicy like Tabu. I had so many compliments on it ... I just had to be careful not to overspray. I'm new to all these perfume notes, all I know is that it is the more beautiful warm spicy winter fragrance, not harsh in any way. It would last for hours. Last bottle I bought in 2008 for $20.00 ... Oh how I wish I would have bought at least 4 .... It's a shame that Fagerfeld did not realize this perfume could be one of the forever classics along with Coco Chanel and Shalimar.
So far, the closest fragrance I have found is Basile .. yet another Italian perfume.

Contessa01

A stunning classic. I have an unused bottle of this BNIB 25ml. Contact me if interested.

camden-girl

I managed to get this in EDP but have not tried edt so can't compare.
on first aapplication it's clear u don't need much this is powerful perfume.
It's nothing like today's fragrances that don't project or last offen ! Fendi fendi /donna is a Beast mode fragrance lol , from the 80,s an era when perfume got you noticed for good ir for bad :)

I bought this blind based on reviews ,Isn't it crazy how we wait baited breath for it to arrive , like a kid at Christmas pulling it out the bubble wrap!
Spritz a little ....first thoughts : oh no it's well old and heavy , very very spicy and soapy, oh dear I'm going to have to find this one a new home :(
however good perfume takes time to get the the heart , it needs to mesh with your skin and so i held on as the reviews on Fragrantica are mostly very good so I wanted to give this a chance , I'm glad I did as after 20 mins the magic begins ...,,
....And this deeply buxom Italian beauty starts to shine.
The soapy beginning fades out a little ( but not much ) and a woody resinous quality becomes more apparent, mixed with a small amount of florals and big hits of spice and maybe amber ? There is a little bit of sweetness and a lot of LEATHER ! She's very warm and resinous and balmy .
This is a vixen , so much is going on , fendi is rich and opulent.
expensive , so much spice so much depth , almost dare i say it .... masculine ! yes this is so spiced strong it could almost be a mens fragrance but she just softens in time to stay feminine.

You have to be confident to pull this one off .
do not wear this to church lol :) unless your having a steamy affair with the vicar !

If you like vintage spellbound or vintage Coco or samsara , maybe opium then you may like this too, if your more a skincent lover of white florrals look away !
You have to be ever so careful how much u apply , less is most definitely more , a classy but big sillage heavy hitter !
FENDI edp is the longest lasting, strongest fragrance I own ! Nuclear power! It's best suited to a cold day or wintery months.

Do I like it ??? Yes I do very much but I'm a fiesty quarter italian, English woman of 40 so I'm crazy enough to pull it off ;))) my friend gave me a hug and said ooohh that's nice perfume so i got a compliment the same day :)
my hubby said it reminded him of Turkish delight sweets, I think I sort of understand where he's coming from.
This is very statement 80,s so be prepared for a slightly vintage retro feel. i I can picture Alexis Carrington ( Joan Collins) from dynasty wearing this dabbed on her pulse points of course she would be about to seduce a toy boy who thinks all his birthdays have come at once , wearing nothing except a fur coat and fendi fendi !
Overall my favourite Fendi is of course Theorema ,but this one , though very different gets top marks from me,
Now I think I'll wear a drop or two and go crimp up my hair and play some 80,s cult classics !! I pity my long suffering hubby he's into snoop dog :)

Info:

Bethco fragrances is listed on my bottle on base sticker so I'm assuming I have a proper edp of intended fragrance pre reform. I understand Bethco New York was up to 2003 but I cannot read the batch number so hard to tell. Lvmh will be the last company to make this so avoid later bottles saying lvmh ,look instead for bethco , is anyone able to say more ?.?

I'm loving this its truly fab ! :)

Just purchased 25mls for 30 dollars at chemist warehouse. I remember always testing this one when I was in my 20s ... loved it but never purchased a bottle. I tbought the smell was classy but too grown up for me at the time. Today I was transported back 30 years. I saw myself wearing my pencil skirts and stilletos. Permed poodle hair and killer makeup. Fendi is warm, spicy, sophisticated, sexy and classy. I'm in heaven rigbt now. I can smell the connection to knowing...but with no sharp edges. I also smell a connection to Magie Noir by Lancome. This is pure class in a bottle.

Contessa01

My Aunts signature scent in the 90's and it's finally mine! This used to enter the room before her and I loved it. I am so happy to have this. Why Fendi discontinues every classic beauty is beyond me.

laulaura

Woody, strong, spicy and long lasting perfume.First spray all i could sense was the woody notes and then the spicy warmness and because i like woody perfumes it was enough for it to have my like: It is well blended, has a interesting leathery smell and brings confidence.it is balasamic and a blend of oriental notes.Makes me think of a bag of tea wich contains diferent fruits, red berried spices and aromas in a steamy cup with earthy colours-soothing, being pasionately served.
well and I see passion and confidece because of its warm spicy vibe and woody quality.
I like it.
Elegant and galantly warm
I would wear this in a black vintage triangle shaped dress accesorised with a leather brown pourse

sweetsmellingmama

Fendi "Fendi" is a mature adult woman's fragrance. Spicy, exotic and warm best for winter months. I am thoroughly disappointed that this has been discontinued.

deviation

Sharp smelling leather. Like the leather seats of a new car. Also if you've been burning incense near leather, it tends to pick up that incense smell. It also has very sharp smelling green.

I wore this perfume few days back when it was humid and it almost gave me a headache. This evening the weather is cloudy and wet, it smells fine. Other than that, I think it's a bit harsh for my taste.

Edit: I got an indirect compliment on this perfume. I was wearing this in the elevator and the guy standing behind me whispered to his gf saying something smells good. She replied "It smells like dill leaves.."

Huh? I would like to think it's a compliment. Immediately becomes precious in my list. ;).

fyre92

This is really freaking loud!! lol I sell perfumes and am tempted to keep this one...... Like the only other perfumes I've experienced that are this strong are LVEB,Opium,Angel. This is still wayyyyy louder than those. Holy Crap. IDK I'm selling a 3.4oz EDT on ebay if anyone is looking for one.

nere.bello

This perfume is my perfume. No doubt. Leather, wood, cinnamon, so gutted it is no longer! I have just bought a 25 ml bottle on eBay and it is a fake, not even a good copy. I am gutted, all I would say is careful who you purchase your perfume from...

Sherri81

About 10 years ago I was wandering around the drugstore, looking at the clearance rack of perfumes. I spotted the bright gold box; to me it looked sort of garish, but it said Fendi, so I figured I would give it a try. It was on clearance, so it was somewhere around the 10-15 dollar mark.

I came home with my perfume, so proud because of the great deal I had gotten. I sprayed it, and then I gagged. It was terrible! How could anyone wear this stuff? Well, it wasn't for me, but since it hadn't cost that much, I wasn't terribly upset. I don't like throwing things out though, so I left it in it's box and put it on the very back of my dresser..., where it stayed until one day, I decided to google it, and found out that people out there loved it! I figured I would give it another try, and here I am, just over a year later, and I love this perfume!

Suffice it to say, I am glad that I never threw this out. I think I just wasn't ready for such a loud perfume back when I first tried it, because this is a powerhouse perfume! When you wear this, you will not be able to apologetically tell people it's your shampoo or hand lotion, if they start glaring at you in public. There will be no denying that you are wearing perfume. It has incredible sillage! When you walk outside, your neighbours will smell it! When you walk through a store, people will smell it in the air 10 minutes after you've walked by! They will smell it on their clothes just from walking through the very air that you just walked through! And it lasts, and lasts, and lasts... But the drydown is so incredible, you will be happy that it's still in your hair and on your jacket days after you last sprayed it!

For me, the initial notes are aldehydes, and more aldehydes, with some wood and carnation as well. As the aldehydes start disappearing, you get a warm spiciness mixed with rose and carnations. In it's final stage, there is a subtle sweetness that underlies the spicy, woody, smell. When I wear this, I envision the ladies of Dynasty. This is very much a strong, powerful, take charge, perfume.

FRAGRANCE REVIEW FOR FENDI

Top Notes Aldehydes Coriander Mandarin Orange Bergamot Rosewood Cardamom Lemon

Middle Notes Carnation Cypress Jasmine Ylang Ylang Lily of the Valley Rose Geranium

Base Notes Spices Leather Sandalwood Tonka Amber Patchouli Musk Oak Moss Vanilla Cedar

This. This is a perfume. I could just leave it at that. Fendi is a sexy, sexualized chypre, it's got a lot of the nocturnal evening cologne woodsy scents I always enjoy: cypress, woods, sandalwood, oak moss, patchouli and spices. Every ingredient is a timeless classic that make up all that is great in perfumery. The opening is aldehydic and citrus which is how so many scents used to start. Then there are spicy scents of cardamom ginger but it's never to gingery. It develops quickly into a floral chypre. The flowers that appear: jasmine, rose, carnation, geranium. Because of the base notes however everything falls into place and stays together in the greatest way possible. The base notes do come off as unisex/masculine and remind me of Bijan for Men but that's why I adore it. This is patchouli oak moss and sandalwood heaven. It's incredibly alluring and sexy on women who are bold enough to wear scents like Yves Saint Laurent Opium Krizia Teatro Alla Scala and Coco Eau de Parfum Paloma Picasso and Salvador Dali. This is just like those scents in that they are very dark woodsy and not too flowery, very seductive and very confident and powerfully fragrant in it's trail. Excellent sillage and longevity. Pity they don't make them like this anymore. Recommended use: evening wear/formal and best worn in autumn and winter. I am in love with this perfume. I hope my review and the other reviews can entice you to wear this especially if you are just getting into vintages and or have begun to wear oud/woodsy chypres and more mature masterpieces.

deda147

I'm in love with this scent. I can't describe it properly, but it gives an endorphin rush somehow. I expected it to be very spicy and heavy, but it's pretty much the opposite to me (at least in EDT concentration, EDP is on its way though). Powdery woods, soft leather, patchouli and honeyed spices cover Fendi's core of rose liquer - slighty sweet and sour, but not overly floral. It's a very beautiful creation and it's a shame Fendi's fragrance division has ceased to exist. It's sisters are Magie Noire and Teatro alla Scala; the former being obviously more stern and bitter, whereas the latter is more voluptuous, with a more pronounced rose/white floral combination and an oriental base. Fendi Donna floats between her sisters like a feather - a carefully balanced composition of both. Very easily wearable by men, too.

coffeex4

I agree with Scythe. Fendi "was"....but is "no longer". Period. Sad. Fendi and Cocoa Chanel were the "Spice Queens", and pulled off being both sexy and classy at the same time. Neither one is recognizable as it used to be.

scythe

Ugh. I wish I had read the previous persons review before I bought this. I can attest to the crap quality of the .85 oz found for suspiciously low prices online. Save your money people. I've smelled the original vintage and was hoping for even a shadow of it here. Unfortunately it doesn't even deserve to kiss the feet of the queen.

the .85 oz are some rejected reformulations...Even though are originals (fragrance.com) the smell is a disaster. As in the most of reformulations. Don t expect any serious similarity with old queen, you ll be disappointed. it is chemical, vulgar, metallic, lasting only one hour and with a poor silage. So, better make other choice than this one, ore choose a true vintage if it still exist!

[Review originally posted on MakeupAlley in 2005]:
Supaperfume.com has this for 20 pounds...it seems to be hard to find in stores. Fendi for me is a sort of sour leather and roses, like a bourbon drink. Persistent and sultry. A weird fragrance, and I can see why some think it smells like Raid or bug spray, but on me it works, smells slightly masculine even, and lasts a long time. An SA recommended it as something that wouldn't be recognized and would mix well with my chemistry. She was right, for the price it is another rare mainstream perfume being proferred by the likes of stores that sell Villoresi, MPG, Caron, Rosine, etc.
Somewhat classic in my opinion.

aalbertoii

Are they bringing it back? Seen in store the other day and now on frangrancenet.com but only in .85oz bottles... my mother wears it, says its a classic...

kaxmir

When my mom wears this, EVERYBODY asks her what she is wearing! It smells spicy and patchouli like on her. It doesn't smell as good on me though :(

diego.lesgart

Other 80s icon ... Saddly missed ... Nowadays there are several Fan di Fendi versions, but, nothing like FENDI 85 ... It is oriental and chipre, spicy, fresh, green but smooty and brume ... strongly ...

anissaklein

I wore this when I was twenty one/ twenty two years old. I was obsessed with it and its deep richness. When I wore it, I wore it heavily. I couldn't get enough. I was proudly called a French Whore, as I walked into work one day... God I miss that scent!!!

Jmalone84

For any of you depressed ex-lovers of this fragrance, I by chance came across a fragrance that reminded me very strongly of this one. Juliette Has a Gun Midnight Oud is extremely similar, it has a heavy powdery rose component though so if you are a hater of rose or powdery frags it may offend you a little. Happy to help my smelly friends :D

Momo2836

I finally got my hands on a 25 ml bottle of this. Such high expectations after all the love and respect here and elsewhere! Its amazing, so worth the wait, what a shame its discontinued. In my opinion its a little like Coco Chanel and a lot like Lancome Magie Noir. Coco is my all time favourite, Magie N I had and liked but not loved. Fendi Fendi has the warmth and elegance of Coco, minus the austerity of Magie N. No flowers or fruit, some leather it could be nice on a man too. Impossible to get a fragrance of this calibre these days, why would they discontinue it??

Walking Unicorn

Vintage EDT: I love this perfume, it's got all of my favorites together in one: carnation, leather, spices, oakmoss, cardamom, coriander, cedar, ylang ylang, rose, and the list goes on and on. It doesn't develop or evolve from one thing to the next, rather it's everything and the kitchen sink all thrown into the same bucket at the same time. It's heavy on the spices, leather, coriander and cardamom so if you don't like these smells then you won't like this perfume. This scent is a walk down memory lane. Big shoulder pads, big hair, and big, huge love for my Fendi flashback!

LucyLucy

@ Nostalgia Street..I feel you. This also used to be my Mom's signature scent..reminded me of my happy childhood when we used to watch Dynasty & Dallas together (tho I was just a 7-8yr old at the time), my happy childhood moments when my lil brother still around...

lalondem

Just not liking it.... more a men's cologne, very masculine, I have been using it as a room spray....

AlisonD

I truly lovely exotic fragrance. It was very strong at first spray but gorgeous when that first spritz dried down.

Feminine and daring is a great description by others.

It would be lovely to be able to acquire it again

Like so many, many others, I want this back! It was my signature perfume as I came of age in the late 80's. I was constantly stopped by men (followed often, in fact) who wanted to get that perfume for their wives/girlfriends/so's, etc, because they were intoxicated by smelling it on me. Never before or since have I had that kind of reaction to a fragrance! Never before or since have I had an EDP that lingered anywhere close to as long as that perfume lasted with my body chemistry. I have a small bottle I use sparingly. My ex-husband almost cried when he found out it was discontinued. My new boyfriend (who met me before I was married back in the 80's) has also expressed regrets that it's gone (and he is asthmatic and can't take most perfume)!

I do have a lovely fragrance wardrobe now, and wear many things during the day to match my mood, but there are times that nothing else will do.

I love Le Basier du Dragon, and am currently torn between Bottega Veneta, Nest's Midnight Fleur, Penhaligon's Iris Prima, and Houbigant's Quelques Fleur Royale, to make a signature for evening (by day I'm using 613 by ChazDean) all of which have some of the same qualities as my lovely Fendi, all of which I love for their own sake, but none of which quite lives up to Fendi.

SadieBluesLady

After bemoaning the high Ebay prices on this scent, I was given an incredible gift by a dear Fragrantica friend! I hope you can understand my surprise when I discovered that on my skin, this becomes overwhelmingly floral!!! I was expecting a wonderful bottom heavy chypre but my skin apparently wants to emphasize the flowers over all else.

I am still extremely grateful to my friend for her generosity, I only wish that my body chemistry had been up to me having a full appreciation of the scent.

Loobloo

I finally got my hands on some Fendi Fendi vintage - exactly the same as I wore back in the early 90's.

I love this perfume! But, to my nose it comes across as much more of a Chypre Oriental than a Chypre Floral. I just don't detect floral......maybe a hint of ripe fruit, but no floral.

I love Fendi Fendi and it loves me right back!

Jmalone84

If I'd known it would be discontinued I wouldn't have lost it. This fragrance was really lovely and had quite an addictive quality to it. Reminded me a little of bvlgari mon jasmin noir actually. I had the body lotion as well which was really lovely; more feminine than you would expect from the notes listed. Reminds me also of Idole d'armani but I like fendi better. As spicy scents go this wasn't overwhelmingly spicy. By looking at the composition you might be fooled into thinking it was quite old-fashioned smelling and not pretty but you'd be wrong- one of those unique winners this was. I'll miss you Fendi :(

Ilprofumo

I've noticed there are many other women like me in search of the discontinued Fendi and who hope Fendi will bring it back to the market.

FYI...
The House of Fendi sold 51% of Fendi company shares to Prada (25.5) and LVMH - Louis Vitton Moet Hennessey (25.5). Later Prada sold their 25.5 of held shares to LVMH. LVMH acquired the license to create Fendi fragrances from YSL Beaute in 2005, and then discontinued all of the Fendi scents including the exquisite Fendi by Fendi (we adore) before introducing Palazzo in 2007. LVMH later scrapped Palazzo too.

I ASSUME FENDI CANNOT REPRODUCE THE MUCH LOVED FENDI BY FENDI PERFUME THAT MANY Of US YEARN TO PURCHASE AND DOUSE OURSELVES WITH (BECAUSE LETS BE HONEST, IT WAS SIMPLY GLORIOUS AND THERE IS NO OTHER PERFUME LIKE IT), perhaps DUE TO THE BUSINESS SALE AGREEMENTS......who knows?

Take note.....Louis Vitton is scheduled to introduce a perfume in 2016. I hope that LV has the wisdom to bring back FENDI under a LV LABEL.

Keep your fingers crossed. I am. I luv Fendi ❤

LizzieDee

I started wearing this when it was first launched in the 1980s, and every time I wore it someone would ask what I was wearing. Such a shame it has been discontinued.

bamamoma1

I went to scentmatchers.com trying to recapture the Fendi by Fendi for women in 1985 but the scent they gave me, #8559, smelled nothing like Fendi from 1985. Did anyone else look for Fendi and felt the same as I do? Please respond at this site.

I'm hoping someone responds,
bamamoma1

I began wearing Fendi in the early 90s. I loved the woodsy spicy scent that stayed with me all day and evening. Like many of you I couldn't believe it when it was discontinued. I was out of the loop so wasn't able to stock up. :-(

I absolutely refuse to pay $300 a bottle on eBay for a fragrance I used to get for $40. And so the search was on to find something comparable. While I did discover several new fragrances that are similar and lovely themselves (Coco by Chanel, Opium by YSL, Cinnabar & Youth Dew by Estée Lauder) they just weren't the same. So I decided I would figure out a way to create my own. That's how I found this site and many others. But before I could begin that endeavor, I stumbled onto a website called scentmatchers.com. They offer their version of Fendi for $60 for 3.4fl oz and I figured it was worth a try. I received my bottle yesterday. All I can say, is that I feel I got my Fendi back! I am amazed and thrilled! After seeing so many posts here from others trying to find their Fendi again I wanted to share my discovery. I will say, I've enjoyed finding other fragrances that I now love too, but if only Fendi will do for you, you can have it back.

EDIT... The Scentmatchers scent does mimic the newer version of Fendi, not the old. It's not exact and it definitely doesn't last as long and the dry down is somewhat different. It's a nice scent but after wearing the "reproduction" for a week or so, It's just not the same...

Once I had her.. The memory of her sent hauntend me for many years. Please, is there anyone who can tell me where to buy this magnificent fragance from Fendi? Fendi Fendi for Women, eau de parfum 100 ml.

My enfenity gratitude,

Mary

FlirtBoy

a female friend of mine got two 3.3oz (100ml) EdT bottles of this gem in some local drugstore in Italy, she said she probably won´t use up both of them and selled me one bottle for a fair good price (about 50usd) and I´m glad I got it and wear it from time to time. I´m a man in my 30s and on my skin this is leathery-rose light oriental scent with a lovely "80s twist". Longevity and sillage are just ok (lasts about 5-6 hours which is enough for EdT)

Elviraelbasan

It was a beautiful surprise .
I had Frank by Frank Govers for a long time and really love its smell. I recived a mini fendi and it reminded me something .... I tried hard to find what was that smell like .... And ohlala just the same as frank govers ....
Fantastic !

MsLacey

I'm ashamed to say I was gifted this by my Mother In Law around 1990 from an overseas trip when you couldn't get many exotic perfumes in Australia. I was young and found it unusual, too heavy for my youth...but a classier version of Opium.

Somehow, I clung to the hope of feeling I was "grown up" enough to wear it and would spray it on occasionally. Kind of like wearing your Mothers jewellery, or red nails or lipstick...but knowing it's way too grown up for you. Now I am grown up enough to wear it, it's gone!

Please bring Fendi back, and not a synthetic polyester version....but the really dark, smoky smell, where you feel like you've spent the night in a cigar den with some mysterious man and you are wearing just the right perfume to mesmerise him. Well, you get the picture - and not many fragrances can pull that off. Fendi could.

MadeiraD

My grandmother always wore this and I love it deeply. I'd love to get my hands on a bottle.

Ilprofumo

My perfume in the 80's. Very very classy and formal. I don't see it anywhere except specialty perfume shops and they are vintage bottles. Is this perfume still made and if yes, where is it available for purchase? Love it.

steve68

I'm using this fragrance from 1986, it' my parfume, I love it!!
It's like a medicine if I feel a little down I smell it and I feel immediately better, aromatherapy for my mind and body!!!

guachipiruli

This perfume smells like when you take a sable coat in your arms and a very elegant lady has worn it leaving an incredibly classy sillage on the silky fur. Though outdated in my eyes, a very feminine and nice fragrance.

dolcethadon

I was privileged enough to sniff this masterpiece finally and all I can say is WOW! Fendi Donna is truly in a class of its own! I do not think I have ever smelled anything quite like this.. Strong, potent, mature, classic, sultry, animalic, chypre floral full of leather, spices, and woods! Out of this world sexy! Fendi is definately a masterpiece, and I hope to get to know it better!

susiebashse.

Oh fendi fendi fendi...je ne regrette rien...except the loss of you, my love. I have been looking for another scent that comforts my soul as you do but to no avail. My lovely hubby got me a wee 25 ml EDP for my birthday though. I am making you last, too scared to contemplate life without you again.

Please can anyone suggest an affordable alternative and don't say Diva cos it's just not true. Nice but dim.

Roselorien

I found this in walmart in the early 2000's for under 20 bucks and thought it must be a pricing mistake. Surely not for the brand name Fendi? The box was so beautiful that I bought it without even testing it. Well, I really like this fragrance in some ways, I just don't think it is very feminine, nor very human for that matter. It's too incense-y, more like something I'd like to smell a very soft whiff of while meditating or visiting a temple-or perhaps a gypsy doing a tarot card reading. Why I don't go wild for fendi: it's missing "something", I guess something a tad sweeter or more complex to balance it and make it appropriate for perfume. It smells like a gay man's after shave. Not quite feminine, not quite masculine, and not unisex either. I once used sprayed it all over my closet because it doesn't smell like your typical deodorizer. It lingered for a few weeks. It is a summer night or autumn fragrance to me.

ojosverdes

I was about to spend a fortune on a vintage bottle of this. Thank god a gave it another try. I asked my daughter to smell it she said it smelled like Coco Chanel, her favorite. That's what I thought but had her confirm it for me.

Lilah Veil

The Fendi lovers are fierce and protective of this scent so I will not be expecting any balloons on this one *smiles* -

I received my vintage edp today. It's the real juice I remember, leather, spice, and all.. and I am so disappointed. It is reminiscent of Diva, which in comparison I prefer between the two; more femmy. As a lover of strong, spicy orientals and chypres, I do not like Fendi anymore and wonder if I ever actually did when it was so chic during my clubbing years. I find it entirely too masculine as my preference is rich, sultry, ultra femme scents. Fendi has too much of a masculine vibe for my taste and I wonder if much of the appeal is in the Fendi name itself or clubbing memories. I wonder if this scent would have such fame if it were the very same juice marked "Avon" or any other less reputable, non-designer name. The notes are a lot of things I like and miss compared to modern-day trendy scents but I cannot find it pretty or sexy or sensuous or much anything at all except raucous parties. It is the smell of 80's rock; no symphony here, a cacophony of everything from the hardest metal rock to monster ballads, sweet 80's pop and the end of disco, an era I remember and love even now, but not the feel and scent I choose to wear on my body. I am let down and sorry for the price I paid.

Fendi Fendi might smell good on a man if I liked perfumed men in tight, black leather pants. I didn't then and certainly do not now... (well, there may be an exception or two *wink*) but this is not for me. It smells to me as if every cologne and perfume worn by each person in the club was poured into a large vat, a local hair-band rock musician dived in, emerged dripping with the club cheering and Fendi was born. I'm going for the kill. It stinks. My son loves it for himself so I will give it to him with a smile of understanding, passing to him what I proudly realize as an iconic torch of my youth and he will probably smell like no male his age and no doubt .... drive his girlfriends wild. :)

I was so excited to whiff this again. Maybe it simply brought back some sad, strange, bad, repressed or drunken hazy memory from a time best left there.

piggyluv

To me Fendi is the sexy, spicy, sister to Chanel no.5; she is the sister that 'puts out' and gets a fur coat and a good leather purse for her efforts. Best use of aldehydes, ever. I have 100ml that I guard jealously, and thank god that one spritz goes a long, long way.

futurehelen

Fendi is a melancholy creature.

Ever had a bad break up? Never talk to the person again? Then you see them after many years and life hasn’t been kind. Something’s gone terribly wrong with their lives.

Could have started with you. Could have started with the underaged twins. Could be the missing ear that turned up in their fridge. Could be living in a basement room while trying to finish that never ending American novel. Could be blow.

Yeah, I’m pretty sure my exes think of me as pretty tragic. So, if I were me, tut tutting my fate ten years later, I’d be Fendi. And I’d cast you a hollow look. You, you were my heroin. You were my downfall. And all I have now is a scrap of your leather jacket and a black eye.

If I had feathers, I’d be wet. If I had fur, it would be sparse and matted. And if I had toes, they’d look like ballerina toes.

Fendi. What a tear jerker. And there's something eminently sniffable about the ruin of someone you loved once.

DJPINA1

I received the edt in the mail today that I purchased online. As soon as I gave one small spray, a flood of memories came back. I am lost in the scent. Like a drug. Oh I just sniff my hand and dream. I have a fondness for many scents and a large collection of eau de Parfum. But my love is FENDI. I Fear that we will never see you again an if we do you will never be the same.

SolangeN

@Eurochic:

It had a dense, suedelike leather in the '80s/early '90s. It literally smelled like a mink coat. Later iterations seem to be missing the leather and amped up the spices.

Debra1

Fendi is the Itillian Version of the Frech Classic Orientials, I Love So Much. The Only Difference is it's a Sweet as well as Spicey too. Fendi is a pricy perfume so there was not initial shock, of it not smelling wonderful from the get go like less expensive orientials that you have to wait till it meshes with your body chemestry, till you begin to love it. Most French Orientials although they smell wonderful their missing the sweet notes. Fendi's the best to two worlds it's just musky, warm, rich, and spicy, inticing, sultry and aso sweet too. What's Not To Love About It? I Wish I Could Afford It.

tstarshine

Please Fendi. Bring this back!

Dear Nicknat, I know your pain and passion. I too have been looking for some sort of substitute, but nothing matches that balance that was perfection. Fendi will be hard to replace, and if anyone ever does manage to pull that off, I will be impressed if it is a close impression. In this winter freeze, I came home to Mexican, cinnamon hot chocolate and put a ham in the oven with mustard, onion, garlic and brown sugar glaze with gingersnap cookie crumbs. It is these winter medleys of smells and smoke that make us appreciate the season. Yet,in spite of such wonderful smells from the kitchen, my evening landscape is lost to that memory of the 13th hour of Fendi that I used to enjoy at the end of the day. Sandalwood, amber and leather would sit still on my skin as I settled in for the night. But now, I can't find that symphony of senses I used to know with Fendi in the winter. Good luck, and let us all know if you find something.

Nicknat24

I was lucky enough to score a 1/2 full bottle online recently and it is every bit as wonderful as I remember. I wore this in the early 90's...in my younger, wilder days! It is everything that most of my other perfumes of today are not...loud, unmistakable, intense and heady. Spicy, woody with a dry down reminiscent of well worn leather and a hint of smoke. I suppose if you don't have a strong emotional attachment to this or have never worn it, you can skip the high price tag on this discontinued fragrance and find something comparable that is just as unique and fantastic to you (more for me, insert evil laugh).

I would be interested to know if anyone has found a contemporary substitute!

Vanessa Dunlap

I'm going from memory on this one. I bought this when it came out in the 1980s, because I went to see a Broadway play in NYC (I grew up about 50 miles and a train ride away) with a friend (the name of the play escapes me) and in the playbill there was an interview with Phylicia Rashad (famous for The Cosby Show) and she mentioned this perfume as one she liked to wear. I bought Fendi because of Phylicia Rashad. It was the most intense, crazy-smoky-sexy-spicy-heavy thing I think I've ever encountered. Very 1980s. Back then I had a #1 fragrance that I wore almost all the time, but I enjoyed having the Fendi for the occasional day in which I wanted to shake things up. Seriously, every single time I wore this, men would compliment me and ask me what I was wearing. Even at home visiting family, my brother and my Dad would tell me I smelled good! It never failed. It was nice to have strange men stop whatever they were doing and tell me I smelled good! I also noticed that Fendi smelled this way on others, too. You can tell who in the room is wearing Fendi! I've complimented other women who were wearing this, as well. My bottle is long gone and I never replaced it. I'm assuming that Fendi in all of its original glory is a thing of the past. I have a wonderful memory of it, and I'm happy with that.

MadeiraD

My grandmother used to wear his, it's heavenly and I love it.

SorceressOfTheDark

Another cult classic that must be tried in all types of weather, but certainly the colder weather brings out the best of it. There is such an intermingling of sweet and sour spices for me with this perfume. As the weather cools, it seems to be working better and better on my skin.
The last time I tried Fendi, the weather was cold outside, near freezing. Now it began working its magic for me. I began imaging a cauldron boiling somewhere deep in the woods, in a squat mythical house, one built of boards slapped together, with a chimney spewing forth smoke. The house had small flattened stones leading to it, as if a prepared walkway had been readied. It was surrounded by gnarled, overgrown trees, mosses of all kinds, moist lichen growing at the bases. The air is damp and cool. Looking at this house, one wonders at the occupants. Inside, a cauldron is boiling a mix of spices. Heavy spices you can't help but inhale as they assault you when you walk in the open door. It's a paradox of evil and good in that cauldron and you know this. You knew that when you walked into the little house. One moment you're in a cool clean damp environment in the forest, the next you're hit with these spicy, heavy odors that frankly, make one wonder what's in the pot. They make you swoon. And you wonder who is in charge of this cauldron.
Spices, leather, patchouli and mosses all take charge together in this perfume to make you see another side of yourself. This is a scent for languishing in oneself, for being assertive, knowing who you are and enjoying that person. It is a strong perfume that should come with a hang tag reading "Heavily Spiced and Intoxicating, Buyer Beware".

SolangeN

My all time favorite, any time and any where...there is no substitute! The best there is, BRING IT BACK!

supernal light

I love this. Very warm and spicy yet fresh and uplifting - not heavy, quite airy and a bit sherbety. Lovely.

boruvka44

EDT: Cardamom, coriander and cloves, spices well blended together, it´s hard to recognise each kind. Then there is a lot of patchouli; rose flowers and wood, carnation, sandalwood. And a trail of suede, the chamoise leather shade, that this perfume evokes with its delicacy.

Iris_it

Dark , elegant , mysterious ,intense ... this is sultry silk velvet in the shade of deep Siena Earth . I was not a not a big fan of leather note in the past ( now I love it ) but there Always have been exceptions when it comes to complex masterpieces .

I'm a fan of THIS old Fendi . There is an amazing equilibrium in this blend in my opinion : it is not floral , not dry , not sweet , not bitter ...
Legendary dancer and spy of the first world war Mata Hari's perfume , maybe ?

But also very suitable for special men , so
Dear gentlemen , wear this if you want to seduce a special woman :-)

I am really astonished to read in a post below that Fendi can be related to Elie Saab Le Parfum as they could not be more different , in my humble opinion .

Jenge

Fendi was my signature in high school....HIGH SCHOOL! Oh, the 80's! Our poor teachers, stuck in a classroom of heavy hitters like this, Giorgio Beverly Hills, Obsession, and Poison! I suppose we were trying to be sophisticated...

Looking at the notes, I really don't think I would like this now. Funny how people say this is for a mature lady, but tastes change, I guess. I would love to try it again and see!

benpaul12

Sorry, but Fendi is nothing like the sickly sweet Elie Saab. "Although not as leathery, spicy, or as intense" sums up how different they are perfectly...

lilj

Big hair, big shoulder pads, BIG fragrance! Sexy, spicy, dramatic and loud. Easy on the trigger, lest some refer to it as "Offendi". Dallas, Dynasty, 20 Minute Workout in full glamour makeup - this is everything OTT eighties, in a deceptively boring bottle.

GryfFendi

A couple of these reviews are truly creative and enjoyable to read. I grieve the loss of Fendi and long to exert my fire and my boldness to the world again with her hot balm steaming off of my skin. I wore her when I was young (which was not long ago) and ready to take on the world.

Fellow lovers of F: share anything that is comparable, though we know there will only ever be one Fendi.

Fendi, come back with all your elements and blaze the earth into and of itself. Your base, your top, your bold are missed.

And perfume makers: take note of the notes in this and, please, create!

Those who did not wear her but loved her, you know very well that she can never be replaced.

Fendi is the metaphor all perfumes and most memorable of all lovers.

A nose that falls for Fendi is a special nose indeed. A neck that wears Fendy is an uncommon neck indeed. A longed for neck and an astute nose is an uncommon pair indeed.

Think moon-walking vampires and celestial hags (Stevie-Nicks-with-a-kick would wear this!).

Fendi, in/deed, could change the world.

To discontinue Fendi is a sin of the worth kind: the kind of sin that only a fundamentalist puritan could committ. It's a perfume for witches. Witches and other witches.

It's a literary scent with a poetic aroma. Fendi by Fendi is the perfume of champions and their bold, witty, distant, and broad-minded allies.

Fendi lingers for miles and miles. Love her or hate her, you will not forget her. Those who try to forget Fendi are the most doomed to denial.

Fendi: Fendi goes down in the perfumery books as the feminist Marquis de Sade of all literary fragrances.

Oddity in the extreme, art in the artstream, passion in the passionscream.

The Fendi of all Fendis. The Perfume of all perfumes.

The Madwoman in the Attic AND, hopefully someday, in the Oval Office.

:)!!! Beware, the power os Fendi is already out there; it cannot be diluted or destroyed. What's done can't be undone.

But for the best result and the most alignment: someone bring Fendi back to herself.

ArtzGirl

This is an AWESOME fragrance, and is one that I would put in the same category as Coco Chanel (the original formula). Warm, spicy, and definitely a fragrance that would be best worn on cold days... otherwise could be very over powering.

I see that they discontinued this fragrance, and that is truly a shame. Although I found it a bit too strong for my personal wear, I really admire this fragrance on other women. It is really a lovely classic!

I hope that they bring this back! It will really be missed!

Gone too soon

My dearly beloveds, we are gathered here today to celebrate the life and the premature death of a work of art that is sorely missed. Fendi Fendi, according to databases, was first launched in 1985. I only met her just last year when my quest for vintage fragrances began to soar. At first sniff, my eyes watered. Fendi, for me, carries the feel of L' Heure Bleu but sways in the opposite direction. Where L'Heure Bleu is subtle and unobtrusive, Fendi is prominent with a hot chip on her shoulder.

An initial blast of spice leads to soft, aromatic florals.

Warm spices envelop the sweetest flowers. Ylang is captivating as it mingles with Jasmine and Patchouli making this a deep, rich and irresistible. If carefully applied, Fendi can be as soft as corn silk yet powerfully rich and deep enough to make your knees buckle. Woodsy notes and amber bring us to a dramatic finish that reeks luxury and sex appeal.

Fendi can be described as breathtaking and heartbreaking. There are no equals. None.

She and I don't have a long history together but I do cherish my new friend. Just as a departed loved one remains in our hearts forever, I am hoping that Fendi will remain in my collection forever.

DrCherie

I adored Fendi as my one an only fragrance of choice because everywhere and every day I got compliments upon compliments for smelling so good!I was very disturbed that they stopped making it. Stupid if you ask me, to have a fragrance so celebrated end. I got no warning so when it stopped,I used up my last bottle & it ended. For those looking for it,& don't want to pay a fortune for it on Ebay, try the antique shops. I found a used 1.7 oz.bottle with about a 5th of the fragrance left for $3.00. A lucky find I use sparingly. Good luck.

foldingcaravan

Okay.....just ran out of my secret stash....and now am panicking! Please if there is anyone out there that can tell me of a close match I would love to hear of it!

MaddieClfd

I love this perfume, it's one of the first fragrances I bought with my own money. I bought it dead cheap, don't remember exactly but remember it was not a lot. I love smelling it from a bottle, I usef to wear it a lot, warm, spicy but even though I loved it, it didn't feel like me, not quite, like I wasn't ready for it, not mature enough. Well - it's an elegant lady fragrance, extremely long lasting, leaving a long trail of fragrance behind.
I just thought to mysel - I should get another bottle, checked on ebay and I nealy got a heart attack!!! The prices! I didn't know it got discontinued...
Right - I'm not going to wear it ever and I'm just going to put my little bottle in a safe :(((

maryellen125

Wore this in my 20's. Very distinctive, with a spicy smell. Sharp and leathery. Smelled it on someone last week, and realized I hadn't smelled it in years.

ranchorita

I loved the scent of Fendi on other women, but it never seemed to really settle down and feel like it belonged on me, to my nose. It kept smelling like I had just sprayed it on my skin. For the time that it was extremely popular, I enjoyed the occasional whiff while shopping or at the opera, and was glad that I could at least admire it from afar.

benpaul12

Managed to find my mother a couple of 5ml vials, having the Fendi perfume around again is magical. It is extremely rich and complex, so feminine and beautiful (just like my mother).

I don't believe it has dated and I know it is popular, so why stop making it?!

Cinlee

I love Fendi, it was my signature scent for years, but now I can't get it, so depressing. I have yet to find anything that is anything like it :-(

PerfumeExperience

If there was a signature "old lady smell," this would be it for me, but to be fair; it is entirely possible that my grandma actually wears this, as it smells very familiar to me. One spray of this is really all that's necessary as it is VERY potent. It took me 3 washes to get the odor off my wrists after deciding it wasn't for me. I also got in a cab just after putting it on and the cabby kept looking at me, as if he was in disbelief at my age. It would be perfect for an older, sophisticated woman who wants a noticable, expensive smelling fragrance.

It does smell pricey, which it is, at almost $300 a bottle for EDP on ebay. I understand the heightened price is mostly because it's discontinued, but might I suggest they stopped making it because their target market is no longer "around" or is just too senile to bother with perfume anymore. I'm only half joking.

No offense to anyone who loves this, I've never been a big fan of "spicy" scents with musky undertones. It's probably the overpowering Coriander and Tonka Bean that make all the other notes fade away into scent oblivion.

Waltzing Matilda

Why do fragrance companies do this to us? Discontinuing a perfume that is obviously extremely popular just doesn't make sense to me.

Fendi was one of the most delightful, deep and enduring fragrances around - all class and style. To my mind it's similar to Chanel Coco.

I bought the EDP at an unreal price through a perfume drive that the local school was having as a fundraiser. If I'd known about its impending demise, I would have bought all the bottles I could lay my hands on so that I'd never be without it. Such a travesty!!

Edit: I've managed to score a 100ml EDP bottle with most of its contents still remaining and intact for $189 on eBay. Although it was a hefty price, I decided to bite the bullet because these bottles often go for really high prices which are way out of bounds. I'm a very happy camper.

ejules

I have been unreasonably upset this has been discontinued. Fendi is the only fragrance I have ever loved since first scent, and the only perfume I have worn since I was 18. I have one bottle, and two minis as a "stash." In my hunt, I came across several fragrance oil companies that advertise the Fendi "type." I found two that are extremely similar so far.I am not sure if I am allowed to post here, but I would be very happy to share the love. You can message me if you like. Oh Fendi, you are like no other.

MJ1209

Smoky, strong and wonderful.. an old fave from the 80's. I like the newer more subtle scents now, but this one is sentimental.

benpaul12

It's amazing, feminine and very powerful. My mother misses it already...

krmarich

I found a mini today at a reasonable price. My collection of vintage Fendi is complete. Indeed, I have saved the best for last. I have never encountered this elusive beauty before today. Its oddly familiar. Perhaps that because I have used Fendi Uomo for years and they have some common elements. Perhaps it the leather.

It pushes the limits on its catagory. It has too many spices to be a chypre, not enough flowers to be a floriental and changes dramatically over the hours to be an oriental. The LEATHER is big. The rose is blatant. The oakmoss and sandalwood shine. Its epic construction is the stuff of legends. It is refined elegance that is mostly formal winter wear. Perfectly matched with a leather suit and rich furs. Dont forget your hat and viel. Oh yes, red nails and lipstick are required.

By todays standards, Fendi has become unisex. Much like the mens leathery rose standards of the late 80s-Actuer, Zino, Perry Ellis, Tenere and of course Fendi Uomo( I think the big difference is some coumarin), this has similar character. Its somewhat on the delicate side for the men at first, but watch out. Leather and rose is the ultimate pairing for dark passionate romance. Fendi defined this effortlessly.

She is gentle, soft and comfortable. She is also very skilled in the art of wanton seduction. She has more notes than anything on the market today and they hold many secrets. Too many sprays and she could wear you. Like many 80s fare of the day, she requires a certain attitude and a skilled trigger finger.

It not old fashioned by any means. Today its more avant gard than ever. Due to its discontinuation, it is now more precious than any niche house. The original Fendi line from 1985-2000 is now legendary and required in all serious collections.

I LOVE YOU FENDI! PLEASE COME BACK!!!

RGR

Fendi is what a rich, mature woman should smell like. This is very oriental, powdery and spicy scent. Fendi is my mothers party scent! She says it smells like parties and fun. Whenever I smell it I feel myself sitting down on a carpet watching my mother putting on stockings and taking out her fancy jewelry.

This perfume is for clean heeled, salon haired and jewelry incrusted women. I can almost imagine a beautifully manicured hand with red nails and expensive jewelry caressing a fur scarf. Its the woody and powdery notes that give off this feeling. It reminds me of times when women wore gold jewelry, red lipstick and fancy shoes. Its so floral, woody, spicy and powerful!

My mother loves it so much she still has the perfumed powder box she bought along with the perfume. Great for mature women.

jmonsonlillie

When I was a young girl (probably about 12 or so) I was in the Minneapolis airport with my parents. To keep myself from dying of boredom as we waited to board the plane, I decided to purchase a magazine with my babysitting money. I chose 'Vogue', not because of the content, but because when I fanned through the pages, a rich, intoxicating and almost transporting scent wafted up at me. It was a magazine sample of Fendi.

Ever since that day, I have loved Fendi. It never gets old, and I've purchased several bottles and gift sets over the years. It was easily my signature scent. I stopped wearing it around five years ago, when Tom Ford's Black Orchid came onto the scene. I had forgotten about the almost-full bottle of Fendi in the back of my bathroom cabinet until about a year ago when I was doing some cleaning. For some reason, the smell came at me and for the first time, it made me nauseated. I quickly decided that it was because I had purchased it at TJ Maxx, and that the quality was most likely poor and it had gone bad. I tosssed it out.
Boy, was that a mistake! Now I find that my beloved Fendi is gone forever.

Thankfully, eBay exists. I found a small bottle of EDP for a good price, and I plan on using it ever-so-sparingly until I either leave this earth or the bottle is taken from me. Such a sad, sad loss. This is truly one of the greatest scents ever created.

AbbieB

The day I found out this perfume had been discontinued I felt miserable ALL day. I used to consider this as "My perfume" and couldn't imagine ever loving the smell of anything quite as much. Michael Kors "Michael" comes close in how much I love it, but they are NOTHING alike. Fendi - come back.

PipeDreams#1

One of the most recognized scents ever. This scent invokes such strong memories for me. Someone I loved must have worn this. I remember smelling it as a child, perhaps from a grandma? This is what I call rich old lady perfume, but I don't think it's exclusive to that demographic. It's comforting, spicy and extremely wild all at once. I had a small bottle I used to spray on my sheets after I made the bed and it would last forever. They definitely don't make perfumes like this anymore. Seems to be a scent from a era gone by. Wish they still made it.

akats

A masculine light oriental or a warm spiced chypre for women? What it may be seem to everyone, it is classic and nice. I had the chance to be gifted a very large decant purse spray 25 ml from a colleque. She hated it....Lucky me.
It is sweet and sour at the same time. Sensual and heavily spiced. Cardamon and carnation are prominent to my nose. Cedar and sandalwood also. What amuses me is that all this sensual warm -almost oriental smell- is constantly interrupted by a naughty lemon. It's interesting! unique.

cleo cupcake

Oh how gorgeous this is! It smells expensive and complicated but feminine and comforting at the same time. It's one of my favourites for autumn and winter when you need a little extra comfort and it goes so well with colder weather clothes. It has style and presence but it's not screechy - it's more of a lovely mellow song. Compared to the 'fruit salads' it is heavier and it is not a sugar blast but if you want to live on more than bubblegum and candy seek out these older treasures and enjoy their richness.

Nmsekhmet

just look at the prices on ebay for vintage bottles

babygurl72

This was my first perfume love back in 1988. I will always keep a bottle in my wardrobe!

stardust808

itchy eyes, sneezes, and an all day blinding headache in a bottle...i don't miss this at all!

biancaloren

I LOVE FENDI - oh my goodness. xoxoxoxoxoxoxox

kuanyin4

Wearing this today was a very sensual experience, I was in raptures half the day over it! I sprayed lightly for me, only one application and that only a couple of times on each arm and my chest. My skins eats fragrances like a hungry hippo, but this lasted almost all day and I had great sillage for half that. I can't think of anything this reminds me of, it is unique. I really loved every moment with it. This is empowering, going from spicy floral to incense back to spice. I could swear I got a sweet ginger scent late in the afternoon, like ginger cookies? Don't see that listed, but every stage was wonderful and I need as much of this as I can get.

Galya

For me it's not at all chipre,it's oriental perfume similar so much to coco chanel vintage.Strong as pure concentrated perfume,I use only 1 drop and I feel all day huge scent from me (for have the same scent with new formula's perfumes you have to spray 10 times!)On me I feel a lot of honey +woody notes.
Real treasure and must have.

akheperure

It feels too serious and solemn on my skin, like a mixture of strong incense and burned cigarette ashes. I can only use a drop of it, lest I get a horrible migraine.
Its strength on me reminds me of Magie Noire that I used on occasion back in the early 80's, though I can't remember how it smelled at this moment (my old perfumes remain at my parent's home back in Europe).
This perfume of Fendi is not for me, regrettably.
Still, I like to get a tiny drop of it on my wrist from time to time, to enjoy the evolution of the perfume over the hours.

diego.lesgart

Una de las mejores fragancias de los 80s, exquisita, fuera de lo comun, como una bruma o aura picante, quizas alguna bebida alcoholica, fabulosa

nellyd2

Oh the 90's ..I still recall its woodiness and spice, not for the fainthearted but a classy and sophisticated scent.

nananessa

I found a bottle of Fendi at a consignment shop for $2, a full bottle!!! I couldn't believe it! I grabbed it up ASAP along with a several d/c'd frags.

Fendi is such a powerful, beautiful, unique & very distinctive scent, IMHO. I cherished every drop of that bottle & was saddened to see it all used up. It is very potent, had wonderful sillage for me...people would comment "What are you wearing? That smells sooooooo good!

On me it smells more like an Oriental, which is my favorite group. A masterpiece! Even my sons would comment on how good this one smelled...

JasmineNikole

My mom used to wear this and I hated it. Now I actually like it. Maybe because its familiar scent reminiscent of my childhood..i dont know..lol

perfumelover4u

I love this fragrance to no end. The coriander and cardamom in the top notes are absolutely brilliant, with the aldehydes keeping things fresh and classic.
I smell rose next, pulsing underneath, dancing with sweet geranium, while all the while the lush, warm base hints at the drydown, which is glorious and lasts and lasts. A brilliant masterpiece of a fragrance, but not for the faint of heart, as this one is strong. One need not bathe in it...

eruetim

I wore this on alternate days. It gave me strength and focus. A nice finish!

thaocrockett

Very spicy and elegant. I was afraid of the aldehyde note, but it is just a hint, which I am grateful for :)
It opens with cardamom and spice notes, followed by some patchouli on the background. When it dries down a bit, citrus scents come and it turns into a true chypre. Now, after an hour, I can smell a lovely sweet amber. Very soft and feminine.
Aldehyde is not scary; it works as a transportation to bring the scent further.
Good sillage.

ecofreak2001

Had it a couple of times. The first time, I was in my early teens. This frag is strong, spicy and elegant. Not an everyday's frag. I still use it on special occasions. I used to love it back in the 80's and I still love it since it's a sexy, mysterious & very strong perfume. You really need to love over the edge frags to wear this one.

sminxyvix

It smells strong, peppery and stuffy to me... I asked my coworker what she was wearing so I could especially know what not to buy, ever. It suits her (she has a strong, dramatic appearance) but not my cup of tea. Maybe she overused it, but it was offesive. I was thinking "Offendi" would be a better name for it.

Loligurl

I like this perfume very much. Inexpensive but rich smelling. Almost masculine, but sexy-like Marlene Deitrich in a man's suit. Definitely smell the woody and spicy notes- never noticed rose. Shame it's being discontinued.

Shydaniels

Rich and luxurious. To me this just smells like wealth, like gold and spices in a bottle. I don't know what I'll do when I can't find it anymore.

HHSandy

A woman wo owns a perfume store in Seattle said that her Fendi customers have gone to Ferre by Gianfranvo Ferre. Since I trust her and it has a lot if the same notes as Fendi, I ordered it today. Will let you know how it compares.

zainab amir

I got this as a gift again but damn is it a gift to remember. It was given to me by a really good friend. He must have remembered it because its not something you stumble across by accident.I am in love with it.Its a totally oriental and spicy fragrance that leaves a strong impression of confidence, sexiness and Bergdorf Goodman. For some reason it reminds me of the women in old Cary Grant movies.

Bandit

If I would be visited by somone from outer space, an alien, and it would like to learn all about mankind and in that matter also about perfumes and it would want to get only one example, for what a perfume is, I'd choose Fendi for it.

The most perfumery perfume ever invented: chypre, dry, spicy, heady and lush. It is the perfume per se.

I do not often turn to this little gem, maybe because it is so much, with great sillage and enormous staying power. For me it is simply most of the time too much.

But now, as the weather is turning again from warm to cold, Fendi's time has been coming. Wear it now or never! It reflects the slight melancholia of another summer, that has been passed, another dark winter to come. It makes you feel cosy, when the leaves are turning and the rain is coming.

I wear Nu and Parfum Sacre for the same reasons right now.

Cezanne

I adore Fendi. Its "My" fragrance. Bereft without it. People stopped my in the street to find out what I was wearing. What am I going to do without it?

durleybeachbum

I have to be in the mood for this one, but when I am, I really love it.
Not one for summery days, though. The warm leathery/furry feel of it makes it ideal for autumn.

Militza

One winter, in the late 1980's a beautiful, well kept woman dressed in suede, with leather coat, purse and boots came in a pharmacy where I usually had my coffee. As this svelte blond woman walked by, her body and clothing emanated an obvious draping of Fendi. It was almost like the scene in TWILIGHT when she comes, in and he smells her as she walks by because anyone in the room would have caught her overall aura: a male for the sake of attraction, a female to size up how can she get that power of attraction. Right then, I knew Fendi would be one of my favorite winter fragrances as everything about it was pure couture on the highest level. Fendi mixed with the leather and suede, and her blond chemistry. I noticed with my first bottle of the fragrance that its sillage was spicy at first but in the dry down, there was a perfect medley of sandalwood, amber, musk and vanilla...or so it seemed to me to be what I would still be smelling in the 13th hour of the day, that hour of coming home from long hours of work, sipping hot chocolate and putting your wrist to your nose to smell, feel, hear the last strings of the melody on your skin. I have been mental upon hearing the company no longer wishes to make it. They have made an egregious error. The other fragrances they may continue to make or those who wish to emulate may be a nice brew, but Fendi was a marriage in heaven with leather, suede, winter and a cup of hot chocolate at the end of the day. Dear God, will someone please send this writing to the company and stockholders?

Aprilily

I really wanted to like this, but on my skin it smelled exactly like "Raid" bug spray-nothing but sharp chemicals. I was so disappointed! I gave away my bottle, *sigh*...

Dayhomemama

Loved it in the 80's and got sick of it, gave it away just recently because it smelled too "old lady" for me.

claudy76

snowbunny007

My signature fragrance. I balled for a week when they stripped it from the shelves. One of the few actual "chypre" fragrances left in the world. I have scoured every department store from Minneapolis to Souix Falls, looking for just one more bottle. Nothing. I am so saddened.

chromextc

This one is up their with Gucci and Jacques fath pour homme as my favourite scent... this fragrance should have been marketed as UNISEX, impossible to find nowadays, isn;t it?

mmarrs

Top notes very fresh green perfume dries down to oriental reminds me of coco chanel with kind of a pleasant soap smell I love it

Tracyellen1619

Wonderful, delicious, spicy, intoxicating. I first smelled this on a friend of mine and seriously, I couldn't stop leaning in to smell her. This is not a scent for the timid. Great silage and lasting power. Because I kept complimenting her, my friend bought me a bottle for my birthday and while I like it on myself, it doesn't smell like it does on her. Different chemistry, she IS Italian and has dark hair and eyes, while I am fair. Not sure if that's the reason, but I generally wear this only during the winter, but it's my friend's signature scent. I smell the patchouli and oak moss and it's much more unique than Opium, Cinnabar or some of the more popular scents that were strong and sexy.

anniebeck

This is my favourite of all time...shame its getting hard to get hold of,
This lasts!!!I bought Hot Couture today as I felt I needed a new perfume as I tend to stick to my favourites, the perfume tester strip is in the bag and I just got a whiff of Fendi as I went to the bag.
I just dont understand why this was discontinued, this always gets comments..all positive.

pavlina

I must admit that when i received it as a gift didn't appreciate it at all! But I get so many compliments every time I wear it that AFTER FIVE YEARS of owning it I started wearing it EVERYDAY!!! It's amazing that it stills smells brand new! And even more amazing after six or eight hours at work it still draws compliments.

I.I

I didn't like it at all.
Fortunately the bottle was emptied by an accident.
This perfume is just not me. I find it very strong, sour and spicy at the same time. Not lady-like, nor classy, sweet, refreshing or airy.
It could be a men's fragrance.
Otherwise it lasts long and it's not suffocating or repulsive (like Youth Dew for example, IMHO at least).

anpe02

I had it in the 80's, 90's, I didn't like the smell so much but the boys did. So I used it every time I went out. I got millions of compliments.

agunlejika

The sexiest and most sensual perfumes I have ever had, always with an air of anticipation. A definite night wear. It is its own catagory.

MsMaryO

Fendi is one of the best classics of the 80's. Big and spicy with the sharpness of those pumped up aldehydes. Damn, this is so sexy. After it's settled down a bit, the cardamom keeps it spicy and woody and very comfortable, but it is unmistakeably a child of the 80's.

There's something so animalic about it. I'd swear there was civet in the base, which was used a lot back then. Maybe it's the combination of leather, patchouli and oakmoss, but it certainly gives this a definite air of skankiness. In fact, I'd call it my favorite skank scent, right up there with Habanita!

Fendi makes me feel like a prowling lioness in heat when I wear it. I just might rip you to shreds....but boy, you'll like it!

nargis

I found a bottle from the mid 1980's among my older perfumes. I tried it and it still smells great. I'd forgotten how much I liked it! I agree with many of the reviews that suggest a light application enough. Also, it is not a fragrance I would wear everyday. When I wear Fendi the spices and woody notes predominate. For that reason I would tend to wear this fragrance in the cooler months of the year.

Miffymuffin

Like Tenderhearted I have not smelled real Fendi, just can't get hold of it. However I have a copy from the Perfume Parlour called Defend and if real Fendi smells better (which it probably does) then one sniff and I would be in heaven. I love my copy. I get harsh woody followed by creamy spice all day. I love it.

leonor

I don't know why they discontinued Fendi. I'm really lost without this parfum. It was my signature!!!! I want tis parfum again.

ichigogirl

Mmmm... this is a very special perfume! I'm not normally drawn to heavy aldehydes/chypres, but this one is a bit different from the norm, unusually rich in wood and spices, in fact rich in several very masculine scents blended into a hyper feminine perfume that just ooozes womanity.
Fendi Fendi is not a teenager, it's an adult woman who knows what she wants and how to get it. Very suitable for the powerwomen of the 1980's for whom it was probably created, but it still works today, almost 30 years later.
And for me, who was a young teenager in the late 1980's, it works a whole lot better now.
Unlike many other perfumes from the 1980's, that are almost overloaded in flowers, this one doesn't give me headaches and nausea. Instead I find it refreshing and beside the wood, leather and incense there are notes of chinese/japanese ink in it, very rare and absolutely addictive.
I wouldn't call it old fashioned, it's too special for that, rather: it's quite timeless.

tenderhearted

This scent is stunning! It is spicy, deep, green, earthy, and rich.

To my nose,my replica (never smelled original Fendi, sorry) smells camphorous, citrusy, there are roses, and there is spice. It really is hot and cool at the same time! There is a touch of a sweet, creamy scent starting to appear to my nose. This must be the lovely tonka bean. This scent has no set gender in my book, and I can see a woman and a man pulling it off.

Now, the beautiful and brave CandyMarie started a thread here about the cruelty in musk, and if the process of musk extraction breaks your heart like it does mine, then look no further than one of my favorite sellers online. She has this gorgeous Fendi replica, and it 100% vegan, synthetic musk, and not tested on animals. Feel free to PM me if you would like the info.

majatyme

My mom wears this all the time, but it is much too strong for me!! Smells like some kind of chemical and gives me the worst headache!!

passionata20

I have read all the reviews below and i must disagree with those who say that this is an "old lady" fragrance. If it is so, then i don´t mind to smell like this old lady at all! This is definitly one of the most interesting female fragrances i have tried lately.
The EDP lasts and lasts and lasts.
What i get from this scent is a lot of leather and wood. In a really nice combination because it is all mixed with a honey notes and that makes my heart melt. My favorite part is the drydown, it smells like a great masculine fragrance i would like to smell on my man. This is like 2-in-1. I can see that a lot of men could really use it also since it is indeed a very "I´ve got the power!" style fragrance. Strictly cold weather use!!
I can´t say nothing bad about this one, only the good words. I would put it into the same category as "Nuits Indiennes" by Scherrer on the drydown. I love them both.

birdofparadise

I was a bit intidimidated when I first sniffed Fendi and it took me a few months to gather the courage to wear it. The first burst of spice and bitterness was unsettling but I love the way it settled into an intoxicating blend of warmth and freshness with the twist of leather that has entranced me. Beautifully complex and compelling. I didn't know I loved leather in a fragrance until I compared fragrances I found unforgettable - mostly leathers. It has a strong presence without being overbearing - softer than other orientals I know - a strong feminine presence that is unafraid of being classed with the Alpha males. I feel its power when I wear it. If it were still readily available , it would be my signature fragrance. Oh, wherefore art thou discontinued????
If I were a fragrance, I would be Fendi.

chaos2

This perfume smells like "money" to me. If you going to wear this, you better look the part. I could not wear it now, because it just seems very '90's to me. I loved it then, though.

TrinitySydney

Here's another scent that requires some serious mojo to carry off. Not for the faint of heart and not for those who like light and fruity, oh no!

Spritz on lightly, and then watch out. DO NOT wear if you're shy.

Think Joan Halloway from Mad Men. Hips, lips, and complete self-posession.

sherapop

As anyone with experience in preparing either chai or Indian cuisine knows, cardamom pods are seriously powerful little spice bombs. Add one too many, and your beautiful creation will be destroyed. Unfortunately, this is how I feel about FENDI, which had the potential to be a great oriental chypre but has been wrecked (to my nose) by the heavy-handed use of cardamom.

I love cardamom, don't get me wrong. Some of my favorite modern chypres-orientals feature this note (LEXINGTON AVE and CHINATOWN offer delightful, well-measured presentations...). FENDI, in contrast, is a serious case of cardamom overkill. The cardamom in this composition is so strong that it literally wipes out everything in its path.

That said, I do think that I might be able to wear FENDI mixed with some other lighter oriental. I'm thinking maybe a smooth amber would mix well with this. But as it stands, FENDI is way too cardamom-heavy to enjoy as a perfume on its own. Désolée.

gypsy parfumista

This is an absolutely classy and utterly beautiful fragrance. Thanks Lauren!! I had never smelled this before and it has been wonderful wearing "her" and I feel richer now...

Fendi is unlike anything I have ever smelled. It is an 80s scent, true and it has aldehydes; but man, oh man-this perfume towers over most scents from that decade! I am reminded of the old deodorant commercial: "Strong enough for a man...but made for a woman!"...

This opens intensely as aldehydes fill the nostrils, but then calms to a spicy/herbal bittersweet citrus. On first smelling this, I thought it was Fendi for men; until I looked at the label, it was so warm, earthy and heavy (one drop lasted many hours on my skin!) In the heart there is a very green cypress and rose for sure, along with other dry florals and lots of sweetness. This is not cloying; but if overapplied, I could see it making it hard for some to breathe in confined spaces! This should be worn carefully around those who are allergic or prone to migraines, it is not exactly demure. The drydown could be sported by men with no problem whatsoever, I wear this and it always get praise. Cedar and sandalwood give it a woody strength that lasts forever, tonka makes it oriental and warm. The labdanum resin is rich and exotic. The moss and leather give it a classy very stylish chypre feel that is more masculine than most. Fendi is something you would expect to smell on a well-dressed executive carrying a quality leather bag and getting out of a limo with assistant and sychophants all around...rich, classy and makes you want to be in its spell.

Sillage: great
Longevity: Outstanding
Overall: 4.75/5

This should NEVER EVER have been discontinued; but, with all those out there buying lemon water and fruity florals have made lovely Fendi seem passe, but quality never goes out of style! I have a nice size vial from the manufacturer 2/3 full, and it is enough for me for the next couple years-this is not an everyday scent for me. I would wear this when I wanted to feel confident, rich and elegant. If I see it somewhere though, rest assured, I will get a FB. Every parfumista/o should have some of this, even if it is just a sample to experience its wonder...

*You're the best Weegee*

empressevie

This is my saddest moment...the lack of Fendi, my fav and signature. What has happened? Come on, all you Fendi lovers (and nothing else is in the same league!!!). Let's jump up and down, let's harrass Fendi, or whoever has taken it over. Let's create a groundswell demanding the return of this DIVINE, sensual, refined but sex filled fume.... please!
I weep!!!

iMaverick

Does someone know when someone walks by smelling of No. 5?? I might, but there is no doubt about it when I smell someone wearing Fendi. It is that unique. The scent of delicate rose is surrounded by spicy accords, carnation and leathery notes. Oh yes, it smells very strong. If the rose was deeper and darker like Caron's 3me Homme, it could pass off as a masculine scent. It smells modern and unique, but somehow with a romantic renaissance feel, like their old ads. Someone has true character if they love this perfume. I still have not smelled anything like it in the decades that I have appreciated the art of perfume.

QCYCORNELL

it's a classic...loves it all way!

nyoka

I love the spicy, woodiness of FENDI.I loved it in the 80s and I love it today. It has the most beautiful woodiness of anty fume IMO,It waifs up and caresses you with warm, gentle fingers and stays and makes love to u for hours!IT blooms and blooms its heart out and deserves a special throne in ur fume closet!
