Classy, mature, sensual, underrated. Definitely going to be in my lifetime rotation. I love this when it's cold out and I want to be cozy. The aldehydes are so pleasant and effervescent. There is definitely a burst of clean incense that I adore. Clean, slightly smokey, calming, unisex. Lovely stuff 👌

Already reviewed this in the past but smack my ass and call me judy nothing beats Joop's Femme during a humid sunny day. You're welcome.

Other gem that I wore and recall longing ... I put to by the same side of New West for her, Alfred Sung classic, United Colors of Benetton original. Strong, intense, a bitter cream. It does a magnetic force fild. In my country it is discontinued.

This perfume confuses me so much. It's alluring and off-putting at the same time. When I smell my clothes from the day before, the scent is still there, patchouli comes through and gives me a feeling of being at any random grandmas bedroom and peeking into her wooden box where she keeps her winter clothes. But also, Femme has a sensual almost budoir-like aura of a woman in red lace garnments putting on lipstick and dusting herself with a powder puff, old Hollywood icons vibe.

Hmmmm, what to say about this perfume?
It's lovely, strong, when it's in the room people know it's there. I ended up with this because a gorgeous Iranian long term lover of mine in the distant past wore only the mens joop homme. It was so creamy and exotic l would be sniffing him constantly it was amazing and the bed would smell of it after he left. So l started getting myself a bottle of Joop homme and l still have a bottle now its one of those perfumes you'll always have in your collection. So I saw the female version and thought I'd try it and it's got that same sweet intense creamy smell that draws you in. Its so affordable now too, it's about £22 in the UK for 100mls so it would be absolutely rude not to own a bottle. When I spray it on me l get soap, (love that) then sweet creamy musk, then something fruity pokes through but it drives me mad trying to figure out what fruit, l hate fruity perfumes so it's a little bit off putting for me l think it's blackcurrant or something like that, or a slight smell of wine, or maybe it's the lilly of the valley tricking my nose, I'm not keen on this part but then the good stuff arrives the vanilla, tonka, musk, and Amber etc which round it off into an interesting smell that's pleasant then the patchouli makes its entrance. I think with this one you have to be in the mood for it, or it could be a little annoying, it's a very distinctive fragrance everyone knows what it is, it's
been worn to death by every 18 year old on the planet and has a bit of a young girls first expensive brand name perfume from a young and cash poor boyfriend vibe about it. It's one of those love or hate perfumes like Angel by Mugler in its unique and powerful fragrance. My cat showed an interesting reaction to it when I first sprayed it on myself though. He came from the other room and right up to me with his mouth half open scenting the air like they do when they draw in the scent from another animals poo or urine or they sniff the animals anal glands to get a download of biological information about that animal, he was doing it to my hand where l sprayed it on me. It was really interesting to watch him, he could smell the civets glands in the perfume and was really into it. Pervert! 😆 🤣 😂 😹
I would give this perfume a 7/10.

Had to return it and get a softer scent. Wouldn't recommend a blind buy

Joop! Femme was released when I was 13, and I remember that I was instantly intrigued when I first smelt it. It was the first expensive perfume I'd ever smelt (at that time it was expensive). I really wanted to have a bottle but I couldn't afford it, and a well-meaning aunt thought it was a bit "mature" for a young girl and gifted me a bottle of some fresh unisex Yves Rocher fragrance instead. So I would go and sneak into a perfumery every now and then and spray myself with it and let myself be transported to a glamorous faraway place where, in my imagination, i was leading a glamorous fantasy life. The favourite fragrance was replaced by Trésor when I was 17 (mainly because I was gifted a bottle and had no other perfume), and Jean Paul Gaultier a bit later, but I always had fond memories of Joop! Femme.

I sprayed myself with it today when browsing around a drugstore with a designer perfume section, and I was reminded of why I loved this so much. The top notes, that seemed to be so over the top back in the 80ies, were just right now and are not loud at all compared to the usual screamers people are wearing now, be they Xerjoff or Tiziana Terenzi or some cheap dupes. I get mainly soapy aldehydes as a first impression, then the delicate white flowers take the stage. Three hours later I am left with the most amazing drydown, vanilla and amber. The animalic note from the 80ies has been tamed, but it is still beautiful and has nothing in common with the ethylmaltol and ambrocenide syrups of nowadays perfumery. I visited a christmas market earlier and I preferred to sniff my wrist over smelling the mulled wine and sugar-coated almonds. Maybe this is full bottle worthy. Today, it made me really happy.

AnneAnne888

Joop femme is an exquisite masterpiece of perfumer's art that you don't often see today unless you are mortgaging your house to afford one of the better niche perfumes. I remember trying on a sample of this when I was a little girl and sniffing my wrist as I ate dinner ( this delicious Sicilian spaghetti dish my mom made that had a gravy like sauce that chicken was cooked in for it, one of my faves) I can see it like it was yesterday. Mesmerized by the scent and picturing a grown up girl all chic in a short hounds tooth skirt suit and chunky black patent heels and thinking she represented that type of scent. Hey it was the late 90's lol . As an adult I saw the opportunity to finally own a bottle of this on fragrancenet and I snatched it up. I am wearing it today as we speak and still mesmerized by it. It is complex and goes through several interesting moods as it dries down. Amazing. I love how the patchouli sneaks out at some point and then melts into a warm, spicy almost incense quality reminiscent of Nag Champa which I love and have had body products made by the brand. Joop Femme is very very sexy, sophisticated, intriguing, bold and yet soft and wearable enough to not overwhelm anyone unless you over spray. It lasts long on me and projects fairly well and one of the few I can actually smell on myself gently wafting up from my neck and decollete throughout the day. Just gorgeous.

This perfume smells so lovely! And, l often went to the perfumeria to sniff it when l was young and beautiful...

-l bought a brand new bottle some ys ago, and got an instant allergy of it, so l stored it, hoping it would be better now, but no, it itches on my lips and tunge, and than suddenly the astma was there... shit, that's so annoing, such a pretty perfum and l can't wear it, *snufs...*

Well, l think l will store it for twenty ys, and, than decide what to do with it, and, ps, l think my allergy is caused by the "fruity notes".

Bouquet Bleu

One of the few white florals I really enjoy as someone who doesn't like white florals at all. Cozy and elegant at the same time. The aldehydes and creamy sandalwood tame the punchy white florals. For cold weather and evening. Cheap and so chic. Timeless elegance and vintage quality.

vugelke

Does anybody know if all Joop fragrances are being discontinued with exception of the original Homme?

ponderbread

This is possibly my favorite vintage fragrance discovery and I can't even remember how I was put onto it because it really doesn't get talked about. From all those notes, I really had no idea what to anticipate going in, and it does start out BIG but beautiful (but probably not office or public transportation-safe). That dry down though... It's like the most comforting slightly sweet, slightly floral incense (nag champa specifically). I want my whole house to smell like the dry down.

*Just a note that my bottle is vintage (not sure how old though) so I don't know if this all holds true with the current version.

PS - It really does smell extremely similar to Ungaro, although Ungaro leans a bit more floral than incense in the dry down. Pretty sure Joop! was heavily "inspired" by Ungaro, since it came out second by a decade, but I'll forgive the pretty obvious plagiarism in this case.

Sidonie Sera

Have to agree with @Edinburgh on this one--Joop! Femme opens up BEAUTIFULLY after about 2 hours.

The initial spray is very vintage and reminds me of another scent that I can't place. Maybe slightly D@G red cap? A touch of Shalimar? I'm not sure yet, but the aldehydes definitely stand out.

It dries down like no other aldehyde scent I own, and that's where the magic happens. It's one of those dry downs that keeps pulling your nose to it. It's a totally different scent after two hours. There's a creamy sweetness that comes out on my skin at dry down--a syrupy, tonka-tinged vanilla amber. Very rich. Not dated at all.

I love this. Totally unexpected--especially considering what it turns into after it fully develops.

ahmednaseri

God bless the person who brought this fragrance up in their Dolce&Gabbana red cap review. Blind bought a vintage splash bottle off eBay and I’m very pleased. This has the underlying floral/ambery/musk base in d&g red without the overwhelming soapy aldehydes on top. Very happy with my blind buy.

cats_eye

Shalimar crossed with No. 5/Arpège is spot on! Incense and soap! So nice. I feel like Joop Femme is related to Dolce and Gabbana pour Femme and Creed Imperatrice Jasmine.

Before I comment on the Coty version let me say that I had the original Joop Femme, purchased in a department store in 1989 or 1990. I'm not sure if that is the Lancaster version or something else but that is what I owned. Recently I bought both the Coty version and a vintage Lancaster deodorant spray which has no aluminum so it's basically a fragrance. After wearing both as perfume not as deodorant, my verdict is that the Coty version is not terrible but it's much weaker. Coty Joop Femme lost about half of the longevity and it's more incensy and less floral than the original. The floral notes are not as realistic and natural. Coty JF is like an attractive zombie version of the original because it's lost some of its soul. Not as bright, fresh, alive and representative of the natural world.

Joop Femme was a high quality skanky, but in a good way, floral. The jasmine note was both fresh and indolic and pronounced. Like a jasmine bouquet in which someone placed fresh jasmine in water a week ago then added fresh blossoms today without removing the wilted ones. Barely one spray left wafts of natural smelling florals surrounding you all day. The base was woody with musks. The civet note was well blended and didn't really come across as dirty, it was the indolic florals that gave it that hint of clean sweet sweat? Something like that.

The Lancaster deodorant spray is close to the original version but it's not as strong. I would recommend buying the Lancaster deodorant instead of the Coty version if you want to sample the original formula and can't find a vintage bottle. Just keep in mind that the deodorant is weaker and doesn't have the exceptional reach and longevity of the original formulation.

The Coty version of Joop Femme is completely wearable and better than most of what is out there right now but the original is a tough act to follow. Both are still worth buying in my estimation.

Original formula 9.5/10
Coty formulation 6.5/10

Skin test, cool autumn day.

I remember this being more old school than it is now... I think of revlon unforgettable with this one, bees wax, earthy florals..
Seems to feel overall warm, ambery, earthy, perhaps a touch of moss... pop it in a new high end branded bottle and you’d have your next unisex scent.

I think it’s good, it’s not a thin sweet honey, it’s a warm, earthy, woody sorta

miewtje

Got my hands on a vintage splash bottle to compare with it's current formulation, wich i love by the way. Iove this perfume so much! I periodically forget about it but every time i pick it up it's like i am rediscovering it. You could take away every fragrance i own and have me keep just this. I'd be happy as a clam.

There is some difference with it's vintage former glory but not significantly so for the untrained nose. The vintage formulation is quite softer, less sharp in the opening. It contains more aldehydes and therefore it projects a lot more so the scent bubble it creates is more grand while at the same time more delicate then it's current self. It's spirit remains the same, the overall scent. It's warm and enviting. Insencey and heady. I feel like today, it is more indolic. Where in the past it was more animalic. Again not something people around you will be able to pick up but in case you are wondering. :)

If i had to choose one formula over the other i would't be able to. I am realy glad I've got a vintage one because this perfume in general is realy important to me and i love apreciating it and everything that comes with it.

Maybe it's because i was not yet alive during the 80's and therefore have no real association with that era in time, but i don't find this perfume to be extravagantly 80's at all. I recognize the style in perfumery ofcourse there is a patern there. But I think based on the compliments i get from others and in what i perceived myself for the first time when i got in touch with this, it smells smoky and warm. A bit nag champa'ish. Nothing crazy or tacky going on here. But then, i realy love vintage perfumes. :)

If you are a man who doesn't care whether a fragrance was designed with females in mind, and can carry the weighty aroma of intense, creamy, deep florals with not only confidence but joy, then you must buy this immediately! I did after purchasing the current version of Joop Homme, only to be completely let down by its diluted, watery nothingness. Joop Femme is (now at least) far superior to its pink cousin (or should that be brother?) it has real power. My partner described it as smelling like 'dusty old books' and I totally see where that comparison comes from. This is indeed a fragrance reminiscent of faded, aged paper, old varnished wood and musky, powdery florals. Like taking a breath from a lily in bloom, this is deep and intense, dark and almost gothic in its mood, redolent yellow flowers in a country garden on a heady Summer's evening. The florals here are not delicate, but thickly honeyed and intoxicatingly strong, which is probably why this can come off as suitably masculine in character. This reminds me of what a Guerlain fragrance might have smelled like at the time of release; powerful and unapologetic, strangely unisex and a little 'dirty' round the edges. I wear this A LOT not so much out, but at home, after work and when changed for relaxing for the evening, or even before bed, there is something captivating and unique about Joop Femme that is just too addictive. A cheapie that smells anything but cheap and is simply a wonderful composition.

Classiclover84

Oh I love this perfume. It lasts all day. It's subtle, aromatic and unique. I love that it is not a traditional overly floral ladies perfume and is great for everyday wear. I am so happy I purchased it and it is so reasonably priced.

mschnabel666

A review for my Parfums Joop! first version (pre-Lancaster). First, I love the original details on the bottle. There is an engraved logo/insignia on the top of the spray/atomizer, and the cap really clicks on. The atomizer/spray comes out like a misty dream! Fantastic! (Lancaster reviews say the same about the spray)

This smells NATURAL in that reforms are all synthetic chemicals made cheap. I didn't find this super strong because it melts into my skin and projects naturally. It's so smooth. This is sexy. It's rich and fragrant, but melts into skin instead of the rather cloying Coty reform.

This seems to be the deal with all reforms. Halston "smells" the same, but it's all chemicals. Hyp Poison is all synthetic now. They don't smell BAD, or even that diff, but they feel diff.

I didn't get any scary stages in my vintage Joop! My modern Coty review (years back) had a more kitchen sink/blender mess of the notes, while vintage just smells smooth and blended. I notice a common trend of drydowns/notes/ingredients in 80s/90s formulas, parts of this Joop reminded me of vintage Bijan. The warm amber? 90s sandalwood?

Anyways, BIG FAN OF THIS first formula, so I bought the last bottle from my seller as a backup. I need vintage notes/ingredients, I really do.

MegRoses

I adore this perfume. I've tried so many similar ones but I keep coming back to this. Maybe it's nostalgia as my Granny wore this, but its such a beautifully balanced fragrance. Sandalwood isn't overpowering, its sweet and floral and beautiful.

mschnabel666

I had minis of this from my local Kmart in the 90s :) And I have a current Coty reformulation. Yesterday I bought a dark blue bath oil from Lancaster, and it froze in the porch/mail. I let thaw, shook to mix, and it really didn't have a smell. Crap. But I dabbed and massaged the oil into some areas and BAM- there she is. Strong and nostalgic- the deep golden ambery tonka sandalwoody base. Just the base. It's all around me, following me, and later today I shall mesh her with an old friend- my vintage Poison EDT comes today.

AND... I have a vintage EDT coming (Just Parfums Joop, Paris France on the bottom- pre Lancaster?) plus another bottle of this blue magic!

A tip wearing thick vintage bath oils- apply to wet skin. Put a dime sized drop in hand, rub/clap hands briefly together, and then rub hands over wet skin (I do my shoulders/arms/chest). It glides on super easy this way. Let air dry.

I also mixed some bath oil with water in a 1oz spray, and spritzed that all over. It worked! However, the bath oil of Joop cannot compare to the actual scent. The oil is only a part of Joop, and I need the whole experience.

Now that I have tons of vintage to compare, the modern coty Joop! smells similar for 30 minutes to Le Bain. (Then Le Bain veers WAY off into baby powder)

Sassafras23

I tested this at the same time as Gloria Vanderbilt, and they were similar in impact, but Femme feels more spicy and while GV becomes sort of okay closer to the finish line, Femme refused to show me any redeeming qualities. I don’t recognise anything fruity, floral or citrusy. Nothing pleasant at any stage. It was tested on paper, but given how uniformly unappealing it was, I’m not willing to persevere with further testing even for the sake of fairness. This Femme seems to have plenty of admirers to need me. But potential blind buyers might benefit from another word of caution. To me, Femme seems to fit the oriental spicy profile even though the pyramid only lists one nominal spice (coriander) and is classified as ‘floral woody’. I appreciate very much other creations by Michel Almairac I’m familiar with (Body, Body Tender, Zen, Chloe EDP, and Weekend for Men), but I have no understanding whatsoever for this Femme and her ilk.

eyi

Unisex, long-lasting, aromatic/ambery, less sweet than Joop Homme.
Prominent aldehyde. Well blended.
100% recommended

Yes Malena

Orange blossom, fruity smoke, musk, aldehydes, civet, jasmine. Definitely a woody aspect to it as well. Lancaster 1.7 oz spray. Nice atomizer. The frosty plastic lid is unappealing. The bottle is flat on the back side, curved on the front, with an oddly sloped, angular section at the top back. The clear glass bottle is, to my eye, unimpressive, or maybe just quirky. I feel like if you like Ciara, you may also enjoy Joop! Femme. It's early days, but I'll be surprised if I end up choosing this over my vintage Lou Lou. Because it's not every day I feel like aldehydes. YET.

Edit 5/3/23
I'm thinking about finding a new home for my bottle, so she can get be enjoyed. I think this one might not be for me. :(

Update 7/26/23
Nope, she's a keeper after all. A carefree, smoky, lace-like, woody floriental that has flair and performance. <3

Betsywoolbright

All the previous reviewers who referenced the Nag Champa note convinced me to grab one and smell for myself. I was not disappointed―it does smell like a real, unlit stick of head-shop incense, a note it shares in common with Tabu, which I also love. This is a very comfortable fragrance for me to wear. It melts nicely into my skin. The notes are blended pretty seamlessly but I do smell more vanilla than one would expect, given the votes in the pyramid, and I also catch whiffs of civet, some aldehydes and white flowers (can't identify which ones). I can't identity any other notes.

I'm a librarian and I doused myself pretty well before leaving for work this morning, and I enjoyed a gentle glow of sweet, floral, musky, powdery, incensey, softness around me throughout the day. No one seemed to notice. I had a short workday today, so I still smelled nice when I arrived back home about 6 hrs later. If I would've worked the whole day, I'd've definitely brought my bottle along and refreshed halfway through the day.

jane__house

I smell a cigar immediately, then sandalwood and jasmine. It also smells dusty, smokey, sweet, plasticy - but not in a bad way, and it's definitely unisex. Does not smell trendy which I like. Has a unique vibe, pretty dramatic and haunting. Not for a hot summer morning.

Peony19

Joop! Femme smells to me like a cross between Guerlain’s Shalimar, and Chanel’s No. 5.
A contrast of Civet and Aldehydes.

sopelka

@lulu169 I have not tried Boucheron, but considering how cheap Joop! Femme is, you can't go wrong with gettign it first. Having both is also an option 😉

lulu169

í can't decide between this and Boucheron femme edp. i don't need both since they are pretty similar - which one should i get? 🤔

villiruusut

Opens with a strong aldehydic floral-vegetal explosion. Reminded me briefly of Cabotine or like a vegetal Poeme. The first few minutes choked me out a little but the drydown is creamy vanilla-floral that I hadn't expected. The incense note that everyone seems to be picking up on is less perceptible if you sniff directly on the skin but I seem to be getting wafts of it when I least expect it. Lasts for ages - I had some on my fingers when I was first testing it out and it lasted throughout the day despite having washed my hands multiple times.

Vilja Vee

I can only echo the other comments: this has an extremely realistic cheap incense stick note, in the best way possible. Longevity is superb, price is superb. The sillage is surprisingly layered and atmospheric. Found my holy grail hippie fragrance!

Tinabill

There was a time in my life I was almost sure that Joop poured the femme and homme juices in the opposite bottles 😂. To me they are both unisex with J!f leaning more masculine and J!h more feminine, smell-wise as well as the color of the juice and sleekness of the bottle, go figure 😆. Anyhow, J!f is an intensive and bossy fume; clean soapy aldehydes contrasting the dirty animalic civet, mossy and white floral old school goodness (steer clear if you’re not into that). What makes it stand out to me in this genre is the unlisted incense stick note in the base. Although resinous incense is more my thing than the jasmine-sandalwood incense, yet the smell is still very lovely here and is the strongest note in the dry down, slightly smoky but still smooth, soft and warm. A strong like from me 👍.

Diamandis

Shalimar with the addition of aldehydes.

My aunt gave me a bottle of this in the early 90s…wore it on a first date…we’ve been married for 29 years now! But seriously, this is 90s incarnate. I don’t get the Nag Champa notes, but this has a very nostalgic spot in my heart.

Mystères du Château de Dé

Made by Coty in France one year ago. It's too fruity-floral to be Nag Champa for me but it DOES have "upstate hipster" or "mountain bohemian" impacts. A fragrance for autumn, watching outdoor high school sports, for dive bars, for barbecues in brisk air with smoke and grilled meat. A Halloween party. Kind of powder-free cousin of LouLou. In fact it reminds me of many current reformulations of 80s powerhouses. I suppose they use the same selection of aroma molecules now, and this certainly comes at the right price! I wear it LOW on the body.

corgi02

Thank God I read the reviews. Incense isn't listed but it's mentioned a number of times below. I'll pass. Even the tiniest molecule of that stuff makes me nauseous. I really get annoyed when they don't list the notes properly and I buy the perfume and it has something objectionable in it like incense or gardenia an I am left holding the bag.

okamikiera

I got a vintage light yellow juice in a bottle that says “mild deodorant natural spray.” It’s surprisingly lovely! I’ve had a lot of unsuccessful blind buys, but am finally starting to hone in on what works for me: the old-school floral/woody/amber style of perfume.

Joop! Femme is undoubtedly powdery and vintage, but lighter on the aldehydes with more of a vague, palatable white floral than a strong, green indolic one. It feels like it's emulating Chanel No. 5, but oddly benefits from being unlike it at all. The screeching offensive facets of ylang and rose are buffed out, leaving a faintly woody lavender, with smokiness reminiscent of incense. While I’m not familiar with Nag Champa, this does have a strong patchouli-tinted “Indian jasmine” feel. Its sourness calls back to the dry-cleaning shop near my house, which always smells strongly of incense mingled with solvents and mineral spirits.

Like its Homme counterpart, Joop! Femme is quite chemical, but without the nuclear longevity that usually entails. It fades within an hour or two. Still, I am glad to have it on my shelf for casual days or relaxing at home.

Dottie's Hoomum

Holy Mother of God. This is aviation fuel.

The buzz on this site turned me onto finding an original bottle for a reasonable price of Joop Femme. I will also confess I had no idea this ever existed until last year. I honestly thought it was a flanker of the men's release which was ubiquitous in my social circles in the early 90s. I had a real aversion to it in its heyday. I always dismissed it a sweet cherry cough syrup.

This was the summer that Germany produced love parades, great dance music and some large fragrance houses that contributed some real hits to the market in the 1990s, not to mention great cars! I am sure Joop Femme was pervasive amid the excitement in the air. I foolish missed the whole event until now.

Fast forward to last fall and I ran across Revlon Unforgettable that hit a sweet spot in my collection. Joop Femme is often compared to the former, however Joop is the original formula at full throttle. I love the box, logo and simple bottle. Most of all, I love orange flower and neroli! The entire composition is based on it. This is clearly one of the best lost classics I have discovered. It's a big, luscious masterpiece that completely takes its place in my collection as a late 80s classic. The florals are weaved into sweet smoky woods and vanilla. Oh yes, there is civet that peeks out every so often and keeps the production pretty adult. CK Obsession and other classic oriental compositions are comparable. Just don't change the cat box while wearing it.

Lonicera P.

. Sprayed it on for the first time of my life - .. strong, oh so 80ies , dense, no freshness in it, nothing floral, kind of chewinggummy sweetness. And memories of JilSander Nr. 4 ( same perfumeur ! Michel Almairac) and Guepard arose. Beside Patchouli, Vanilla and Amber the only ingredient they have in common is Coriander.

A cool 80's perfume! Old school European style, it's so rich and warm, and comforting. Theatrical, confident, don't let the sharp aldehydes in the opening scare you away, it's so good in the drydown. Almost honey like. A burning Nag Champa incense stick + a bowl of exotic ripe fruits + fresh lilacs. Interesting combination and much more exciting than half of what's trending today.

kathmarie

My gosh from dislike to love. This skanky old style thrills me now I get it.

Katy94

Such a beautiful perfume ! The beginning is a little bit animalic but wait few minutes … and it will change to amazing creamy perfume ! So rounded, creamy vanilla …
I don’t see a lot of resemblance to Gabriela Sabatin scen.

Joop! Femme has almost everything that I want to be exist in my fragrances. It's a white floral bomb, it's woody, animalic, musky, spicy, a bit fruity. It has a vintage quality, and all the notes are well blended here. You would find Joop! Femme as an aldehydic-fresh white floral scent, but you would also find this one as a charming sweet-warm woody fragrance with some sharp spices and skanky musk existence. I really love it.

Drino

Bought on a blind buy based on descriptions. Initially it’s a bright white floral with spice to me, then dries down to a warm, spicy amber with some white floral - almost a woody slight oriental. It’s very pleasant but nothing galvanizing that would make it stand out to me. Not sure I could pick it out of many similar perfumes. It’s comforting and warm, but not polarizing. Nothing makes me say ‘wow, what IS this perfume?’ My signatures are Loulou, Chanel Coco and Dune, which are powerhouses. I do like it, but not sure it’s unique enough to stand on its own, compared to my favorites. It’s lovely to wear in winter when it warms up with layers and you can catch a comforting sniff. Great for weekends. If I’m going out, I still reach for one of my signatures.

This scent makes me nearly cry, because this is so 80's, true and honest, just as it was back then. Joop brings to my mind cities like Berlin and Amsterdam and travelling in Europe - by car, by train and by ferry-boats with their duty free shopping. Joop was never sold in Finland as far as I know, and that's why it symbolizes Middle Europe and it's distinctive cities for me.

The combination of civet, coriander and LOTV is unique and adorable. This is the one and only.

Yeesh, this is so rough…there’s a screechy vegetal weedy note on opening which is a turn-off :p

Then at some point, I can see the strong glowing sour powdery floral radiating aroma, which I also detect in the dark pink(fuscha) bottle for men. I like the one for men much better, as it’s spicier, maybe sweeter and smoother.

4/10-unique, harsh, but I can kind of see where this is going. Too strong for warm weather, but meant for colder times. Not a fan of its powderiness.
Would not repurchase.

I blind bought this because I loved Joop homme on my brother (who hated it, by the way), because it was so cheap, and because everyone is going on and on about the nag champa, and i LOVE nag champa.

I am mildly disappointed. I get two things in the top-- aldehydes and civet. I don't like it, but I can tolerate it. Once the aldehydes dissipate and the civet is joined by white flowers, patchouli and sandalwood the fragrance is just okay for me. Once, a woman walked by me in a stairwell and she smelled intensely of nag champa. She said she was wearing Fancy Nights by Jessica Simpson. I did buy it just for that reason and used it up quite quickly. Ironically Fancy Nights has many of the same notes as this juice, but they smell nothing alike.

I am not minding the dry down as I am winding down for bed. I can see using this as a night time scent. It is not powerful on me, and pretty gentle. I would probably layer it if I were to wear it out because on me it is so plain.

Bschelinder

I wanted to like this and based on the notes and description, was really looking forward to it. I have tried it several times, it sit for 4 weeks, nothing helps. It smells like corn nuts to me. I can tell there are other scents mixed in that are nice but I can’t get past the corn nut smell. Hard to wash off. I also will probably never eat corn nuts again.🤢

This potion is potent but worth it if you use correctly and with restraint. I'm not the kind of person who likes massive sillage so I used to spray this once into the air and walk through it. Even then, sometimes people would comment and ask me what I was wearing so you might want to consider dabbing this lightly on pulse points with a cotton ball. Joop was one of my favorite perfumes in my youth. I hope to get my hands on a bottle again sometime soon along with the Le Bain iteration to conjure up all the memories of those times.

This would be very nice on a man too.

Firstly, so many references to Nag Champa Incense. Absolutely spot on!
I’ve been burning Nag Champa Incense for many, many years. And I’m very familiar with the scent.
This is it, in perfume form. That’s all I can say. I do love this, I think this works very well in the cold weather. This would be too heady in the Spring or Summer.
It’s sultry, it’s powdery, creamy. Incense. For the aging Hippy Chick that I am. I LOVE IT.

Cascadia Ecotopia

I found a big sample bottle of this, only slightly used, along with Estée Lauder’s Beautiful, in the first studio apartment I lived in. I think the previous tenant worked at department store fragrance counters…Besides the huge, old porcelain, claw-footed bathtub, these two odd-couple perfumes were the only sophisticated things there. At the time, the only way I could relate to the Joop was as the smell of sarcastic, clove or French cigarette smoking, black leather wearing, Harley Davidson riding German guys; it’s ( to my very young, naive, and floral essential oil wearing self ) effect was pungent, confusing, disturbing, gave off exotically middle eastern vibes, and I certainly didn’t have the attitude or audacity to wear it out in public. It did remind me of the more hippie oriented oils and incense, music festivals, and certain funky second hand clothing shops. I didn’t hate it, but I was intimidated. Nowadays, it actually makes me think of the more classic, spicy oriental complex scents women with experience might handle. It certainly smelled more unusual and unique than the Beautiful, and although I smelled the latter frequently in many nicer places, ironically Joop was closer to the student type of life I would be living.

Katie <3

A civet rich, incense heavy scent. Smells a bit like Lou Lou but darker, animalic, much more sexy. I can see why alternative girls in the 80's and 90's wore this scent.

Lucas Liw

First off, I love Nag Champa and the calming effect it has on me. It evokes an atmosphere of equanimity. I can also see how this perfume is compared to Nag Champa - the jasmine, sandalwood, amber, and spices etc. Yet, if you place them side by side, you can probably smell the difference: Nag Champa (to my nose) lacks orange blossoms, and is therefore less sweet and fruity. Nag Champa also does not have civet or any musky notes in it (for obvious reasons).

I agree that this is a wonderful scent for its price range and is very affordable, especially if you're new to frag scene. And yet, a young lady or a newbie might not appreciate this perfume for what it is - a classic.

It is very interesting how time plays tricks on us. On one hand, this would be a lovely perfume for a younger lady - early 20s to pull off, think Lily James as Donna Sheridan in Mama Mia, and at the same time, Meryl Streep as Donna Sheridan would also pull it off. Because of this, I would say that this scent is defined less as "age appropriate", but rather it would only suit certain types of personalities - the free spirited woman, i.e. hippies, yogi types who caught the wanderlust bug and refuses to be tied to one place, or one man.

Joop! Femme is gorgeous!!

The best thing about this perfume to me is that there is absolutely nothing sharp or nose itching here, it's so smooth and lovely. I certainly get the reference to Nag Champa Incense, but I guess you could say that Femme is the lotion or soap rendition of that Satay Sai Baba Incense (not the exact same, but hard to unsmell the similarities once you know). It doesn't feel extremely old skool, it could work perfectly fine you even if you are not usually into vintage scents. I find it very comforting and warming. Drydown is a bit soapy. One of my best blind buys, I love it!

Aromantra

Funny how the combination of almost 20 notes has an identical scent to Nag Champa incense! (The popular Satya Sai Baba brand of Nag Champa to be exact...) I remember Joop Femme vividly from my childhood. I instantly loved it and used to think it smelled so fancy at the time lol *

Fast-forward to now, I still love it, but clearly my perceptions have changed. It gives me an obvious vibe of adorned temples/headshops/hippie markets which I enjoy and find laid-back & endearing. A delightful clean floral incense bomb and a must have for any fan of orientals. Strong projection & very long-lasting. Suitable year-round and is 100% unisex.

sopelka

This blind buy totally paid off! JF smells familiar, like my carefree student years. I must have caught quite a few whiffs of it in the 1990s, although the name of the fragrance was not familiar to me then.

It is intimidating at first, but soon dissipates into a gorgeous vanillic, woody shawl that I want to keep smelling on myself and showing off to the world. Mad projection and decent longevity. It is more appropriate for evenings, but I can’t restrain myself from spraying it first thing in the morning. It just makes me happy ♥️.

Nazbro

I love Joop!
Ever since I was a teen and I remember this scent drawing me into many a bad boy, but I found often I would love the smell more than the boys. This is much the same as Joop! Homme, but there's more of an Indian insence feel to it. It's a little dirty, very soapy, and talcumy. It's creamy, spicy, citrusy. It's authoritive. This is a perfume for the unisex scent lovers, the boss', bold, and the loud. It's a scent that demands you pay attention to the small details.
The deep incense wafts are very calming and reassuring. If it were a person, it would be kind, open minded, eccentric, spiritual, and ambitious. A person who knows what they want, gets what they want, but doesn't hurt others to get there; a person that will share and raise you up with them.
It's a well balanced scent, and I don't find the aldehydes very strong to the point of smelling cheap, at all. It gives off a niche perfume house vibe more than a shopmade scent.

Stillmagnolia

While I lived through the 80’s as a kid, I can’t name more than one or two fragrances I used or recall, but I do love many from that era, and older, and many from Carthusia, which seems to overall have a bit of “vintage” vibe. I like a variety of scents and just really like what works on my skin and wafts at me vs disappearing….. and probably dislike 90% of what is on the shelf at Sephora.

I think this does have good performance for an EDt, but I absolutely love the opening on this, and enjoy that it’s inexpensive so I can just top meself off at home to get a fresh whiff. I also enjoy the dry down, which for me is the most important of any scent, but this is not nearly as enormous as I expected based on the reviews, and the dry down is totally and completely different than the open. Almost like completely different fragrances.
I do feel that the value for the price, both in quality and performance, is great. My skin is basically a scent-eater. I love how this is clean while still having depth, and isn’t very sweet. (I’m ok with gourmand, but guess there is something I dislike, and that’s overly-sweet, cause my skin seems to max out whatever sweetness exists in a frag, anyway).
So I love it, but while good for an EDT, this is no Carthusia Fiori di Capri or Caprissimo in terms of longevity or sillage. Unless I just sprayed it, and did it 5x, I can’t imagine bothering anyone with this in public. On my skin, I’d consider this perfectly appropriate for group situations. Enjoying it as a refreshing antidote to staleness of city streets in summer.

drdgs

Joop! Femme is strong. It is a woody powerhouse that is really more of a unisex fragrance. Did I mention that it is strong? But if you can get past the initial blast it dries down to a quite pleasant faintly floral woody scent. I have to be in the mood for this one as I typically prefer a little more floral. And beware - Joop! Femme needs some 'walking around time' before you put yourself in a confined location like a car (otherwise you'll probably get a splitting headache).

arysetiawan71

Just received this article today. This is a challenging edt... very very smokey at the first, as smokey as ted lapidus black extreme. I don't think this belongs to ladies, because its more masculine than joop homme...

Joop Femme is a rare jewel.

Despite its age, she never stops surprising you with its sophisticated, über feminine, rich elegance and grace. I have kept a small bottle from 15 years ago, a treasure, and every time I release its cap something magic permeates the air.
One spritz, and you become the Queen of fairies, the beauty of beauties, the total enchantress compelling the whole world, all worlds to swirl around you. All suddenly gravitates around you, like her soft embrace.

Never a scent captured in same manner the imaginary of all sexes - its allure is just irresistible, intriguingly comforting. Compliments getter, this scent comes from fairy tales, and the spell it is capable to cast is an ever lasting one. Huge sillage, incredible projection - without suffocating people around - and a longevity many houses should study upon!

But let me warn you - she chooses you, you won't have a say in that. Chemistry here is key to the magic - she'll work wonders on rather dry and cold skin (alike mine), but would throw a nasty curveball on many.

Absolute LOVE for me, forever more.

johnjubal1958

Wow!!! A really great smelling fragrance. I'm a guy but without doubt this is a unisex scent today. 20 years ago or more it would be consided more femme but moving with the times it's fitting to suit the Homme's too! It's plesant and enjoyable to wear and the longevity and projection are both huge. For the price this is a steal at around £25 for 100ml.

Scent 9/10
Longevity 10/10
Silage 8/10
Likeablity 11/10😊!

A must have for those who appreciate an excellent scent and for the collectors👍👌🤗

Just sniffed the new Coty version, it is not bad, but if you are curious enough what it was like in the Lancaster era put some effort into getting one from eBay Germany, even a mini would do you wonders.
Modern production methods and restrictions have not allowed it to retain its quality.

Maja36

I love it! Such warm, gorgeous, sensual, beautiful, very rich composition! Great lasting power, hope no one messes with that ever. This fragrance will give you confidence! I don't understand negative reviews at all. I guess their noses are untrained when it comes to real, rich fragrances. This is perfect. Love it. Florals are well blended with the rest, the end result is kinda mysterious at times. The dry down is nice as well. My next purchase ,and will make sure I have back ups always. Hope 'fresh and clean' or 'cake smelling' lobby will not last, they produce negative reviews while having limited knowledge and may ruin this gem for somebody curious to try it. When a fragrance requires of you to wear it couple of times to appreciate it,it means that's the real deal, kids!

puppeta

At first sniff I wanted to vomit.....As the time passed I sniff again and I thought that was an all diffrent perfume....It smells wonderfull if you wait and give it a chance.I would describe it as a Smokey vanilla jasmine sandallwood scent. At the end of the day it reminds joop homme.Very long lasting...

Joop! Femme has been sitting on my big bottles small prices shelf (BBSPS) for a while. Next to i.a. Charlie, Charlie Gold, Ciara, Giorgio Beverly Hills, 5th Avenue, and Red Door. All of them 80s top selling big scents which I felt I needed in my aroma hoarde, but never really paid much attention to. Also, in the 80s I didn't even have them, so these ones are probably reforms.

Anyways, back to my BBSPS.
Interesting to see that the brews (bar Red Door given coloured bottle) all sit being very glowy yellowy in rather undescript, even weird angled bottles. Different shades of yellow and golden which, when seeing them in a row, look like a weewee exhibit on the different states of (de)hydration.

To Joop! Femme now. BAM! Animalic balsam aldehydes much?! Not for the faint at heart! For younger noses trained on gourmands, this beast will probably make you run away screaming. As it sets in, I get reminiscences of the creamy soapy resinous powder identity of pre 80s powerhouses, with whites being there yet playing second violin to oldskool non-floral notes. If this had been a 60s Guerlain number, it would have been believed.

Imo, this is what sets J!F aside from the scents mentioned in the 1st paragraph above.
Is it 80s powerhouse? Sure is! Does it have oldskool class and impact? Yes Ma'am and Sir.
A strong like.

Being a fan of Joop Homme for all of its metrosexual glory it exudes, I always wondered how the femme version will smell as I had never ever seen it sold in any stores in South Africa, nor was it an easy scent to obtain, i however eventually managed to get a decant sent to me and if testing proved good results I could order a full sized bottle.
When my decant arrived i ripped open its packaging and held the the little clear orb it was sent to me in and admired the yellow tinged elixir inside, then seconds later i applied some onto wrist and took the first whiff, to say I was turned away at first smell will be putting it lightly, I recoiled thinking that either the decant is off, or this Joop Femme is just not for me, but i have learned to always let a fragrance sit on your skin before passing full judgement, so i left it to air for five minutes then went in again, and it was then that the magic happened, i fell in love with Joop Femme, i could tell right from then that i was going to love this scent, and boy oh boy i really do.
aldehydes, jasmine, rose, orange blossom, coriander, sandalwood, civet, musk, vanilla, amber and patchouli, is basically what i smell in this elixir which makes the entire scent have this nostalgic, dreamy vibe about it.
What you smell after the first five minutes is basically what you left with till drydown, just lightening out from an arms length scent to a close proximity scent over its duration.
Honestly speaking a guy can surely pull this off as in this day and age, a scent profile like this can pass of easily in the niche market as a unisex fragrance and it would sell extremely well
Longevity-8/10 (around 7-8 hours)
Sillage- 5/10 ( per my opinion as of now i think its a close encounter scent as i have tested it out twice now and both times in seclusion, so proper sillage still remains to be seen)
Scent- 9/10 (With a handful of notes i love in a scent which mixes it so well, how can it get a rating anything below an 8, its a Dreamy creamy concoction that evokes nostalgia whilst standing leagues above the slew of modern candy explosion sugar induced scents)
All in all i will give this scent a 9/10 in my books simply because it gets all of my favourite notes into one bottle and does it oh so brilliantly and that too from the house of Joop who in 2021 is regarded to be the makers of cheap fragrances, but whom i time and time again have been impressed by their scents (Joop Homme, Joop Jump, Joop Homme Wild, Joop Go, Joop Homme Absolute, Joop Splash, Joop Wow.) and now their first ever fragrance Joop Femme joins them and lo and behold she takes the number one spot. So next up ordering a full sized bottle or maybe even three of this captivating elixir, even if it does not garner a single compliment i will use it just for me and me alone.

P.S- this somehow reminds me of Dolce and Gabbana red cap in a way.

Annemarie

I got this as a blind buy based on reviews here. At least I thought it was a BB because I've always ignored the whole Joop! phenomenon, but as soon as I smelled it I felt a sense of uneasy recognition. I don't associate Joop! Femme with a particular person but with the general idea of cheap loud perfumes worn by bossy overbearing people. Additionally, there is a harsh scratchy note in the opening accord that reminds me unpleasantly of maybe Revlon's Ciara. Not sure. I'm having trouble separating any of the notes in Joop! Femme, so comparisons are difficult. .

I'm hoping that if I persevere I will smell my way through old associations because I can see why this perfume is much loved. I feel much better about it as the fragrance relaxes and loses some of the cloying sweetness that leaps out of the bottle like a punch between the eyes. We'll see.

Interestingly, Joop! Femme has apparently not been reviewed by any of the major perfume blogs.

elizabethdivver

I used to wear Femme Joop! a lot in the 1990s. It always seemed to me quite a challenging perfume. In the notes above, the main accord is white florals, but to me this was a strongly balsamic fragrance. Fast forward to the 21st century and I saw Femme Joop! at a discount price in a UK shopping chain. They didn't have a tester to try but I bought it anyway. Today I have the 1990s version on my left wrist and the current version on my right.

There was little or no difference to the top notes. As these are the most volatile, if there was going to be a difference caused purely by the age of the older bottle of the two, this is where I would expect it to show up. However, my older bottle was in a dark cupboard and seems to have survived as I remember it. Now several hours in, there is a difference. The current version is softer, the older version more strongly balsamic, but I have to say the difference is not dramatic. I prefer my vintage bottle. It seems more distinctive, but perhaps it is a purely personal preference based on my greater familiarity with than version. When my older bottle wears out, I will still wear Joop! If you find yourself out of step with the current popularity of sweet gourmand notes, try Joop!

ira.singhal

This smells like the 80s like nothing else! It is meant to be a floral but to me the floral part is very faint. I can only smell the Tonka Bean, aldehydes, patchouli and cedar. It does settle to a powdery tonka bean. It is a strong perfume one would wear to a night out dancing with sweaty people! I do like it, but I am not sure the younger crowd would appreciate it. It hugs the border between feminine and Unisex. Not for the faint of heart for sure and a couple of sprays is enough for everyone! On clothes, it is as strong as when you first sprayed it, even 2 days later! I can see some people getting a headache from this. It smells artificial but in a good way. In fact, I think of Coca-Cola when I first spray it. Nothing different or special, but a good perfume nonetheless. Excellent for moments when you wish to feel strong and want everyone around you to know it. If you only keep 1 perfume in your wardrobe then I won't recommend this, but it is good to have as part of a collection.

Maggybutch69

Absolutely love this perfume, especially before bed. Its strong but very comforting. Its a different spicey powdery floral but nice smelling UNLIKE PASSION gross!!

I love you Joop but i swear you don't last as long as you use to :( xoxo

Ms. TeresaAnn

A lovely scent, that has garnered some nice compliments from strangers. Wore this Eau de toilette in the 80's when it first came out, and almost every young woman was wearing it back then. It comes off strong at first, but has a beautiful dry down that lingers softly. Sometimes difficult to find in the Femme version. Price is reasonable for the size and quality pf product, paid about $40.00 (including discount) for 100 ml spray bottle.

I wanted this perfume so very much 30 years ago, I went to smell it as often as possible, but, I never could afford to buy it,

but than I bought it a year ago, and it still smells so very good on my skin, I absolutely love it!!

This perfume also remind me of the past, we had so much fun back than, we were young and beautiful, and we had hopes and dreams for the future to come, and also we had a lot of nice perfumes to choose from.

Joop! femme is for me, all the other perfumes in one bottle, it reminds me of Youth Dew, Knowing, Roma, Dune, and my much beloved Desirade, wow and wow =))

I my nose, I can smell the coriander very strongly, and than the fruits, a little bit sour, and something is slightly iching in my nose, what it is, I cannot detect. -Nevermind, it smell sooo goood, and I loooove this great perfume so very much!

uno

This is the Sandalwood scent I searched. No matter how many fragrance I collect, I will have a bottle of Joop!femme in my collection.
Top note is kind of old style, then after 15min, the combination of Sandalwood and white flowers become very relaxing scent.

Kateri81

This! Back in 90's, I was teenage girl living in post-communist country, buying Elle magazines to dream. In one of them around Christmas time, there was this dark blue ad page with scented stripe with perfume sample. O Lord! I fell in love. I was not able to identify the smell. But for me, it was the smell of luxury, beautiful women, jewels, lingerie, hight heels and dark lipstick. And I could not get it back then. It was way too expensive, you know. But I did, 15 years later. And I still have it and I still love it. It smells like my careless youth and Christmas, which apparently smells like sandalwood, jasmine and aldehydes together :D It is retro. But I don't give a damn. It is perfect. I wear it, when the temperature drops below zero and Christmas is just around the corner.

ALC555

Joop Femme is more masculine than Joop Homme. Quite uncommon scent nowadays. I would buy this instead of the discontinued and very expensive Jean Patou Pour Homme. Check it out guys. You won't regret it.

xpetra82

i have a system to enjoy this one. i never spray on my skin. i spray on clothes hours before wear them. This way i avoid the overpowering opening. I some time spray my sheets before i leave for work so i can smell it at night. It is very ''aldehydy '' and it makes me feel the same way my Chanel No5 does in a cheaper price...so i love it <3

Covid 19 has been a time of clearing out the mental clutter that has been building up for several years. I've been rummaging through all of my belongings and pairing things down... doing a bit of Feng Shui on everything that I have within my possession, including perfumes and fragrances.

It is also a time when I have decided to go back to things that I have a strong enough memory of - like the times that I had asked someone "what are you wearing" as they passed by and I caught a marvelous whiff of something magical in the air. A fragrance that was worth spinning on my heals and risking appearing awkward to find out what perfume they were wearing.

I've always made it a practice to ask someone what they are wearing when I notice an incredible perfume. Sometimes I tuck this away for years, but will make a mental note of how beautiful the perfume was when I encountered it.

I've made two mental notes on the perfume "Joop Femme" over the years. I was too loyal to my "signature" fragrance at the time to actually try the fragrance myself, but I certainly had enough of an impression of the notes in this perfume to make a mental note to try this at a later date. Covid 19 has made me realize that I need to move up the dates on anything that was on my bucket list. Now's the time to try this.

The reviews that say that this reminds them of incense, and in particular - Nag Champa are absolutely correct and right on! This has the same exact notes that I remember in a lot of the trendy cool bookstores that I've been in which have the Bohemian Chic vibe turned up full blast - incense wafting in the air...making you more open to picking up a metaphysical type book and flipping through the pages.

The juice of this perfume is old world, elegant; a classic; ageless and timeless. The notes in this could have been just as popular during the preppy phase with early Ralph Lauren woolen sweaters, plaids, tweeds as it is today...sandalwood has always been one of my very favorite notes, although I have not really purchased that many perfumes specifically looking for this as a fragrance note.

If I were comparing Joop Femme side by side with other high end perfumes, this could have been found at a niche' boutique, Neiman Marcus, Nordstroms, high end department store. The notes in this perfume resonate with a designer variety perfume. In fact, it does not smell exactly like it - but resonates very similarly to my Creed Vetiver cologne (with less vetiver). This smells like a high end perfume - but is an affordable luxury and smart buy.

Joop Femme was a drugstore perfume, but now harder to find. Luckily - I tracked this down on eBay.

I'm so glad that I trusted my intuition and ordered this.
So far so good, watching to see how this one wears on the skin in the final dry-down phase. This is working well with my chemistry. (I actually like this better than Ciara and White Diamonds on my skin. The notes harmonize better with my chemistry).

Some have said that this is a strong alpha female type perfume and could be unisex. I could see that men would really like this one. This is in the range of perfume as some of the others that I get a lot of compliments on. We'll see, just starting the wear time with this. So far, so good. I'm loving the notes of this with my chemistry, early in the wear.

This stayed on my skin over 6 hours - and is still going pretty strong for that length of wear. The incense smokey type notes with sandalwood wear for a long time on my skin. This perfume does not sweeten in the final dry down. It does not transform into a musky broth on the skin, like some of my favorite perfumes. It ends pretty much as it started only slightly softer - true to form.

The silage of this perfume is great because I clearly remember the two times that I have spun on my heels and asked someone "what are you wearing" -- and they have said "Joop Femme". I'm so glad that I had the courage to ask, because I would never have found this, otherwise!
The longer this wears on the skin, the more I'm loving it!

Well what do you know. Joop! Femme, I have searched for you. Just didn’t know it was you. Now that I have found you, we will never part again.

I am truly intrigued by how Mr. Michel Almairac has mixed the carefree and sunny plastic eraser-scent with the deepest and most classy fumes you can imagine. If Jil Sander «Sun» and «No 4» had a baby, it would be Joop Femme. Almainac also created No 4.

I really really LOVE the versatility of this very interesting classic. Not outdated at all, but definitely underpriced at perfume shops.

man from Slovakia

tested today .... first impressions terrible ... but if you don't suffocate after the first half hour, I'm sorry, then the magic begins .... the beautiful scent opens .... definitely not for every woman, definitely not for girls .. ..do not risk a blind purchase .... but it is magic ....

mldaleali28

Ugh, this one... i loved and hated it, depending on my mood or idk, but I had it for a looong time, I probably still have it, lost somewhere in a drawer.
It’s stroooong and it projects really loud but it’s still somehow classy. The fragrance of strong, bossy women in 90’s.

By reading reviews here, I must say this could be that "Yanny or Laurel" situation, an olfactory illusion. Anyway, I was fascinated by how bad this is, cause never before I came across something so uniquely vile. Very interesting experience though. The composition of notes is quite good, but it is horribly made. Extremely chemical and plastic, hard to wash it off. When testing it, I almost had the urge to apologize to passers-by for disturbing them. Surprisingly, some people like and recommend this, so relying on comments only, could lead to very unsuccessful blind buys for others, like me, and once you buy it, you may be embarrassed to offer it as a gift...Bad reviews are unpopular, people are sensitive and offended about it, but we still need to be open and helpful here, and at the end of the day, who cares what I think of your favorite perfume.

Imagine a bright shiny white flower caught in a piece of clear cristal. The marvelous and pugnacious scent of the creamy petals is diffracted, bouncing all around, dancing everywhere in the room.
After a while, it slows down and gets a warmer woody shadow, but nothing introverted, no it can’t. This stuff is loud and chats, and twirls and curls its hair, and laughs, it won’t let you sleep until it gets what it wants and more, much more.
The next day you wake up with puffy eyes, and there it is, still fresh as the morning, making fun of your bad mood, because it will never have wrinkles. Never.
Bad adorable gossip girl.

There's something about this bright yellow juice in the odd angular bottle that makes this beautiful concoction so unique, yet it boarders on strange. First off you have to appreciate a loud fruity jasmine accord. If this isn't your thing, move on as this element is the foundation of JOOP! Femme. It's a sweet, pungent, white flower screamer upon opening. This may turn a lot of people off, especially men. I like this kind of scent (think Fendi Furiousa, Madonna Truth or Dare, Ungaro by Ungaro, Fracas and the original Carolina Herrera) so when I encountered JOOP! Femme, I was instantly familiar with wearing this kind of loud white floral. As a male I was intrigued and open for a challenge.

The jasmine and fruit notes are sweet but very medicinal and exotic. Imagine discovering a bottle of a thick dark yellow liquor stashed in the back of your grandparents bar cabinet. You take a sip and its pungently sweet at first, then it mellows as it coats your throat and warms your chest as it goes down. You know its forbidden and slightly naughty which makes the aftertaste even better.

This gets better as it dries down, as the vanilla, sandalwood, and oakmoss brings this to a place few fragrances can muster. And civet. The civet here is pungent so another notice: anyone who doesn't like civet be seriously cautious. It me this adds yet another faucet to how amazingly unisex this is while giving a nod to classic perfumery of the old days. Sweet, strange, medicinal and exotic are the four main adjectives I use to describe JOOP! Femme.

Femme is in the name, but like JOOP! Homme, either gender can appreciate this. I have not tried the reformulated version available now for dirt cheap, but there is plenty of vintage stuff out there which is my recommendation. Any fragrance enthusiast has to try this. It's perfection.

ragutka

A true beauty. A little bit too intensive after application but when it settle down on the skin it is a wonderful powedry vanilla scent. A vanilla is in Shalimar way, my way.

alphairone

I imagine that Drake meme with the still frames from the Hotline Bling music video with the 'no' still frame next to Joop! Homme and the 'yes' still frame next to this one.

Joop! Femme is more Homme to me than Homme, and it is right down the middle unisex. It's strong and confident, it's aldehydic (shiny shiny), it's floral (especially jasmine and orange flower), it's incense (pleasant surprise), it's woods (because men like wood), it's CIVET (blush).

This is one of those 80s take no prisoners frags; no namby-pamby milquetoast here. I need this baby to simmer down at least fifteen minutes before I dare enter a bus or enclosed public space.

For all the hype and hoopla over 600 dollar bottles of vintage Jean Patou Pour Homme, just blind buy a twenty-odd dollar bottle of Joop! Femme, gents. Don't worry, the word 'femme' is printed nowhere on the bottle, so your fragile masculinity shall remain intact.

10/10.

Well well well - what do you know!!
I actually had to upgrade this from a like to a love today!
It took me a little more than a year - of using it a lot - to came to that conclusion. I have reviewed it before on this site, and I was sure that I liked it, even though I thought it was one of the strangest fragrances I had felt, or smelled... but something kept drawing me to it all the time. And despite that kind of weird sensation I got from it, I was sure that I was going to want to keep it and even buy it again.
But, like when you realize that you have fallen in love with this man... I suddenly knew that yes - I love this perfume!!
It has an absolutely wonderful vanilla, emphasized by a very addictive civet, that is not too strong, but only makes you want to come back for more!
I like very much, that it does not have too much flowers in it, or any fruit for that matter... there is a natural sweetness in it due to the vanilla, that has nothing to do with the sweetness in many modern fragrances, which really can be too much... it is just so well balanced.
During this time of getting to know the fragrance, I have liked - and still do - to layer it with other perfumes; especially with heady flowery ones ( like Gucci Bloom for example, or Jean Paul Gaultier Classique, which I think is more of a oriental?). I think it makes them softer, deeper, rounder. But recently, I have started to appreciate it more just by itself.
So if you are like me - not knowing quite what to think - take your time to get to know this! It just might be worth it. Especially since you can get it for such a low price, too...

A little sidenote: at first it comes off with a blast of something stronger - aldehydes? flowers? - but it soon wears off, and it becomes all creamy.
Enough said!! 😃😃😘🌹☀️

Miasha

At first I thought this perfume was very strange. And I still think it is a little bit strange, but yet there is something very likeable about it! Maybe this is not as much as a love for me, but anyway, I don’t want to be without it! I keep going back to it, again and again - it’s addictive. If I don’t always use it alone, I use it to layer some other fragrances - in particular those that are a little bit sharp, though beautiful. Then Joop! give them a creamy roundness.
It is very special and remarkable, if not even peculiar. But it is not one of these loud beasts, even if it has a big sillage and projection. It is smooth. What I like the most, is that the drydown is very longlasting, and I think not only as a skinscent. After a whole day, I feel surrounded in a cosy little cloud of warm vanilla, some saltyness from the civet, but the soapyness ( which I like, too - kind of ”bathy”) has almost left by that stage. And then I maybe put a little bit more on - to fall to sleep in. Settles nicely on my pyjamas, and I can wake up to that same fluffy cream vanilla again.
Useable in any season, for me, even if not every day.
As I said: this is not really a love for me; but a very strong like. And with such an affordable price, I will sure buy it again, even if I have a big bottle and in the beginning I thought I was a little bit disappointed. Turned out to be that I use it a lot.

P.S. I want to add that, when you first spray it on, it gives a sharper blast, i think of flowers, and it can make you think it is one of these killer fumes from the businesswoman hell of the 80:s. But ease your mind and don’t worry - that quickly wears off, and you are left with something much smoother.

Samijjay1

Absolutely wonderful! The 90’s were the best in everything, music, sports, movies, super models, clothing, designers ,and perfumes. I remember when I first smelled Joop, I was looking for a new perfume in Bloomingdales and the sales lady said to try it . I fell in love! It was a bit strong but everything was at that time. I recently purchased Joop!Femme, I’m quite sure it’s been reformulated but it still smells absolutely wonderful. Although I will be purchasing a vintage bottle to compare the two so stay tuned for an update.

Eternity Girl

This is the one perfume I have that is difficult for me to wear. Im happy to have it though. I bought it in 2013 after seeing and knowing of it for decades but I have only used the smallest amount. My 100ml will last me a lifetime. The best way for me to wear it is one spray in the air and walk through. Its seems to blossom on me when worn like this. Directly sprayed on my skin is harsh and too much. And Im a perfumehead who wants strong scents but this is a difficult one. Still enjoyable but I have to think about it before reaching for it.

Edit: Nov 2021 - I have since sold Femme Joop. Im feeling swamped with too many bottles of perfume and want to downsize dramatically. Im happy Femme has gone to someone who is a collector who will enjoy it more ♡♡♡

Dorian_Gray

I'm a man. I like indolic, white florals. This nails it. I read that this could be worn by men. Maybe not many men as it leans "femme". But if you are like me and don't care what others think and are a bit more adventurous than go for it. I don't think you will be disappointed.

RossanaJ

I bought this because i love Joop Wow, but its a bit cloying and not very woodsy. it lasts for ages! its not a bad fragrance, but it projects too many white flowers for me, therefore more feminine and i prefer the scent of dark fruits and flowers. The dry down is more powdery and vanilla like, so quite pleasant, opposed to the sweet opening notes. i have to be in the mood to wear this! I guess its fine as an everyday fragrance, not offensive at all!

Kristin321

I purchased this based on some honorable mentions by various youtubers. I have been driving myself to distraction trying to recall where I've smelled this before---something from the past--finally! Dolce & Gabbana, Dolce & Gabbana for women (the red cap). I will have to do a side by side test, but it seems exact based on memory.

caryyy

Such a great strong aldehidic perfume, very long lasting, totally worth the price

roxyjuliet

This is a rich, warm, spicy, floral, aldehydic scent, akin to Ralph Lauren Safari, Gres Cabotine, the original Chloe EDT and even leaning towards Chanel No.5 due to its aldehydic opening.

This could be classified as smelling 'dated' due to its soapiness and general lack of sweetness - but I don't subscribe to such views - this is a great (unisex) scent

Best of all - its very inexpensive.

JustSimpleThings

I love this! Such an elegant powdery vanilla scent and it lasts ages. To my nose, this feels much more sophisticated than modern vanilla fragrances like Black Opium or LVEB.

When i first spray it, it is apparent that it's an older fragrance, I get a blast of something (perhaps civet? or a combo of civet and aldehydes?) that is a bit too wild for me - smells a bit hairspray-y. But that goes away within about 10 minutes, I find, and then I am left with this beautiful fuzzy beauty of a fragrance. I don't mind that those notes are in it imho, I think that's what gives this complexity, depth and character - so I'm not complaining by any means! Perhaps my taste isn't refined enough yet to appreciate the beauty of those opening notes- I am looking forward to exploring them further.

To describe the "second stage" of the fragrance, on my skin:

JF reminds me of Aura EDP my Mugler, because it's a 'cool' vanilla. It is not warm on my skin, perhaps because of the soapiness- it gives more of a cool feel - which makes it posh as well (because unlike Aura, this one has less obvious sweetness and no loud fruity notes).

It also seems to remind me of Dior Addict - to me, this smells like a more vanilla-heavy Addict! Which is great because I love vanilla, and this one is much better for my wallet :) It's on my buying list, can't wait for you to be mine, Joop! Femme, my darling!

Cumaru

Clean and powdery opening with a powdery vanilla-pineapple dry-down. Nice cozy scent, but it gets me compliments.

Beautiful just beautiful deep sweet and slightly earthy. I love this scent and so does my husband. No really he loves it so much he wears it. Before he wore it I didn’t think of it as unisex but it is. On me it’s sexy sweet warm and yummy. On him it’s like the nicest stick of incense.. smooth amber, patchouli, and sandalwood...an almost sweet nag champa vibe.
I love this scent, I truly do. I smelled the men’s version (Joop! Homme 1989) back in the early 90s and always wanted something similar for myself. When I found this I just about screamed. It is that delicious on me, and on my husband,

smellsbells

finally got this. I get a borderline old lady smell and a tabu/ciara type smell as well. drydown is incenseish like tabu.

UnearthlyApothecary

To me, this one smells something like Bijan Bijan mixed with that aldehydic church incense from John Galliano. I am not sure which of the note combinations in this read as church incense to some people but it’s interesting for sure. If you like big bold 80’s florals, chances are you will also like Joop Femme. This one is a little too much for the heat we are having here in AZ right now as it’s very cloying and heady, I imagine it’s much more wearable in cool temps.

indiglo

Just got this and trying it out today. I was prepared that it was likely to be strong at first, and it was indeed strong, especially for the afternoon when I put it on, sweet, bordering on cloying.
Fast forward after hours elapsed (was too busy to really monitor it), yes it is a really nice scent, for me the vanilla is prominent, a deep vanilla with other notes, jasmine, other florals, sandalwood.
So far does seem to me more suitable for nighttime and maybe special occasions.
---------------------
Update: second wearing. Still starts out strong but it settled down pretty well. I think I can probably wear this in the daytime also. I like the incense note, reminded me a little of Ciara but this smokiness is prettier.
---------
Update #2: I'm continuing to appreciate this - I think the coriander really adds a nice spicy/aromatic note that I'm drawn to, and there's a grounding somewhat bitter complexity, probably the civet and oakmoss.

Anamandy

This is just too loud and dated for me. I find it overwhelming. I really can't handle it. Maybe the original version was better, but this reform version is a no-go for me.

nadia11

This is one of my favourites of all time. Its so sexy, mysterious. I agree, its similar to Revlon Unforgettable. But I find it lasts longer and the dry down is better. This is my go to" fragrance. love love love it, May not be for everyone, but it smells gorgeous on me. I'm always complimented on this fragrance. Its loud at first, but the dry down is amazingly powdery/musky. Just gorgeous.
Only down side, the bottle is a little boring...but hey...who cares..when the perfume is to die for :)

Annabear

Wow! Pervasively soapy and aldehydic, a loud, blousy retro fragrance from the ‘80’s.
Didn’t realise stuff like this existed any more, languishing on shelves at discount fragrance sites and probably under the counter in chic middle European pharmacies.
Dismayed with all the sugar plum fairy juices dominating today? Give this one a try.
Also leans slightly masculine so can be worn by anyone, anytime, although probably better in cooler weather.
No wallflower here, this one makes her presence known and hangs around to see what’s going on. To my strange imagination, it’s like Penhaligon’s Castile brushed up against D&G’s red. This is a love from me.

shushkin

Humdinger! This is quite an animalic jasmine hit you between the eyes number. I'm not sure I pick up sandalwood. It is very strong. A nice airiness from the aldehyde. It doesn't get too heavy. This is definitely a night number.
Good longevity and sillage.

Safira

Joop! is a classic, and sure it does have en 80's vibe if by 80's vibe you mean strong, uncompromising and beautiful. I got this as another blind buy (and intend on getting Joop! Homme too), and at first whiff I was slightly hesitant. This perfume packs a punch, that's for sure.

As I've learned over time, I always need to try on a perfume several times before deciding on whether I like it or not. If you try this on, and sniff the spot you sprayed real close - chances are it's going to put you off. It's pungent - especially in the beginning. Think Shalimar - you get to the good stuff be letting the perfume evolve.

I've worn it three times now, and with each wear I get a new experience. This scent is amazing and multifaceted. It's warm and alluring. Longevity is amazing, and it takes you on a gorgeous journey changing over time. Sillage is moderate unless you overspray, in which case I suspect it can turn into a monster (but then again most perfumes will!!). For me it's one of those perfumes that seem to enhance the scent of your own skin beautifully. Overall, I'm a fan - and the price of this is very reasonable. :)

Phantomias

Warm and spicy, Joop Femme is very nice indeed. The sandalwood note wears off too quickly, but what's left behind is beautiful. Although designed for women JF could work for men, too. Applied with a light hand this intense fragrance can be worn for work, the scent stays close to the skin.
Joop Femme has been around for a while and is worth a try. High end quality at an affordable price, this one's a win-win.

LorettaEs

Reminds Amouage Ubar, just much cheaper.Wonderful beauty!

ForrealMe2

Sorry to everyone else that likes this ahead of time..OK..so I thought this would be similar to the men's version joop homme but it wasn't and smelled more of a linear yellow musky scent than anything and didn't really draw me in because it just seemed like musk and only musk, it was just plain to me..Ladies no lie get the men's version which is a classic if you like perfumes like Thierry Mugler which have huge sillage and longevity you will love pour homme better because it's like that dark berry or dark cotton candy like scent but it's not even cotton candy per say because it's so different I don't even know how to describe this one it's just so alluring and it's amazing and more unisex..even the bottle with the juice is pink. Highly recommended pour homme for uniqueness. I don't know what notes makes pour homme this dark sweet scent but instantly when I smell it on a man I just know joop homme! But a woman can easily pull this off..I love it so much I just bought another bottle and it's going to be in my tops because I forgot how much I really love it and it's not expensive at all and the performance is outstanding! The pour femme is like every other plain musk out there and I tried to love it but there just was no uniqueness to it at all. If your a musk lover get pour femme but if your a gourmand lover get pour home.

Forbiddenjade

Simply one of most feminine scents out there, despite having been out there for decades.

It's love or hate, for it won't take prisoners. But I yet have to found a man who dislikes it, or a woman who does not like it on another.

Sensual, evocative, exotic, it's alluring and provocative without being vulgar. Suits best more mature women than young, for it is a complex fragrance.

Note: over the years I realised that this type of scent reacts best with an alkaline PH - it works best on people with cold and dry skin, such as myself.
On me for example Tocade and La Perla work wonders they never worked on any of my friends.

annxyz

I purchased this after reading reviews and I love it ! It is a soft spicy floral that lasts and lasts . It is also very feminine and slightly musky , and could appeal to women of any age. This is one of the best fragrances I have found in years . I love the scent and am so glad to have discovered something long lasting and feminine that really performs well for such a small cost . This is a great scent .

How does 2017,18 batch perform .. Pls lemme know

Chanel No 5 + Shalimar = Joop Femme

pinkmuzic

I decide to blind bought Joop! Femme when I read all the very good review here but... it start very nice smelling but NOT my cup of tea so I have this brand new 100 ml of this baby if its someone fav! for swap if you want! :)
it is very different for me!

MWROMO

What a lovely and unique fragrance it is. It screams 80's all the way....or shall I say all day, because this fragrance will last all day long, from dawn to dusk. This is a great fragrance, pungent, sensual and feminine. Opens up with strong civet smell but then dry down to this woody, musky powdery heavenly smell. You can wear it any time, to any occasion as it is just perfect scent, and one last fact worth mentioning is that you will get a lot of compliments. Please try this unique scent.

dsmercoco

Joop femme is all about the dry down. OMG, SO good. It screams sensual vibes for hours. Such a vintage powerhouse. A must if you love big, bold fragrances.

meg0825

I've been reunited with this fragrance after many years and I'm thrilled. It is fabulous! They sure don't make them like this any more. It's a super sensual woody, animalic, floral powerhouse. Amazing!

sandifitzg

Gorgeous, sexy, and oh so feminine. This is a true power house. A little goes a long way. Woodsy, musky, gently sweet flowers and a touch animalac....purr. This is timeless...A true classic. Love it.

WhiteVelvet

This is gorgeous. Lasts a long time and you only
need apply sparingly. One of my favorites.
Super femme.

imoore

This is the perfume you apply On Your Ankles, in order to stop you sniffing the wrist of yours. It lasts and lasts no need to re-apply during day or night.

mschnabel666

I was so unfair to this perfume when I first got it. I received it in the mail during winter (cold juice) and I'm sure it was shook-up during transit. Now the bottle has sat for about 2 months in a dark, cool room... and I love it! I see it's true potential now.

This should be my holy grail because I get everything I love: vanilla, incense, greens, resins, citrus... but for some reason it's also still masculine.

This reminds me of a male version of Le Bain-- buttery citrus, spicy vanilla, creamy. Except the spice/herbs, incense, and greens turn Femme almost masculine.

I wore this last night, after work, fresh into my night clothes. No horrible, strange bitter opening. Pure incense. SWEET. Now I see why it's compared to Lou Lou or Poison. I def smelled Poison when I stepped outside to walk the dog. (it's a sunny, bitter cold April in Michigan, about 30-40 deg with wind). However, it's nothing REALLY like those scents. It's more like... if you enjoy those you'll enjoy Femme.

It opens herbal/spicy and citrusy, then floral/creamy but sandalwood dominates quickly. Underlying is the green/amber, making this smooth and yet... cheap/cloying? I have the Coty reformulation. I don't really get fruits or aldyhydes. Super duper long lasting, but I went bananas with the sprays. The animalics/dirty blend nicely- just giving it a vintage vibe since you don't smell civet in today's fragrances. But overall, after 1-2 hours, it was distinctly masculine. Like Pi, if memory serves. Also had some Ciara-incense familiarity. Once 1-2 hours pass, it's strongly linear, which isn't a bad thing. Except that's the masculine part that lasts forever. You may expect this to go chypre from the base notes, but alas it does not really. I also smelled a lil bit of Shalimar. Like mixing Shalimar with Le Bain. I really didn't get anything powdery, surprisingly.

This is a scent to try and try again before you hate. I know it turned into a LIKE for me. Almost a love. While it stayed rather linear on my clothes/body last night, I do think this perfume changes every time you wear it, based on weather/environment/clothing, etc...

socorrosouza

On my skin it is more a woody/civet sweet perfume than a jasmine one, jasmine has some input but civet and woods have more impact. Feminine London Burberry is more a jasmine perfume for me, but not in the Alien kind of way (which on my skin is not good), in a more flowery sweet way. Joop femme is long lasting and delicious, although I am speaking from the mid 90s version, after Coty bought Joop the aroma was much changed.

ZELJO

I find it sublime,a real springs bloom,so romantic and feminine,a little in some Creeds perfums vein...

AaronStar

Well, with so many ''stories'' of reviews, made up, without trying or buying. I ask is this a jasmine scented perfume?
Sambac or poet? Or is jasmine just part of it all, neroli, rose etc. The user votes are usually right, message me or private me.

cocolover56

Greatly adore this. It's almost peachy in the opening, and reminds me so of Coco.

Azula

Spontaneously bought this today, inspired by the nostalgia of childhood and the memories I have of smelling this on my aunt growing up.

Bright aldehydes coalescing with creme brûlée vanilla, amber and tonka bean create a sweet, medicinal aroma accompanied by honeyed jasmine and rich, creamy sandalwood. This is womanly, animalic and alluring. What a powerhouse!

Elsee

Received this today.

At first spray, it was strong! EEKS! Not bad/not great.

BUT....as the day wore on it changed and got better and better. I can sense that this might be more of a "walk through" fragrance and this is what I will try next. It reminds me of Boucheron, but a bit stronger.

It lasted a very long time! I only sample-sprayed a small portion but can still smell it 5 hours later. One walk-thru spray might be the magical trick here with this one.

It smells very 90's-ish. But I sort of have big hair so it works! LOL

mschnabel666

Well.... I'm not sure what to make of this.

It's sharp, green and masculine. And strange. I have the Coty version (reform) but it has pretty good sillage/longevity. And I really don't like it until it settles down... to a green/spicy/woody/powdery vanilla. At that point, I like it. It's def different.

I got pickles in the first hour too. So I'm not sure how much I like this.

I even dug my white tester box out of the trash to make sure it said FEMME because this is very masculine. I don't get any incense or Ciara vibes. It doesn't smell dated, just unlike anything current.

I agree 100% with GourmandGirl:

"I absolutely detest it for the first half hour or so, but.... if you can get through that first blast without running for the nearest decontamination chamber with some heavy duty wire wool at hand, it really is worth the wait... sort of. It turns slowly into a powdery, musky, slightly dirty scent that has an almost (almost)dreamy quality about it. Never has a perfume taken me to such opposite extremes before, it's a strange one for sure!"

I will say.... I wore it all day in winter and I could smell it fine... but later in the evening I layered with my current Cabochard-- and the result was magic! The drydown of Joop Femme gave Cabo some floral/vanilla oomph.

Maenad1

Joop conjures up many different impressions for me. The strongest of those is probably related to how I wore it in the late '80s and early '90s. Back then it was kind of an "alternative" fragrance. Goth girls dressed in short skirts, purple lipstick and ripped tights would wear this to dance clubs where they played music you'd never heard before. People were smoking clove cigarettes. That's what Joop brings to mind for me. But as I wear it now, some 30 years later, and I'm way past my clubbing days, Joop is like a visit from an old friend. I smell incense, fur coats, something like a cigarette (but not as unpleasant as a cigarette), something like the powder they dust the back of men's necks with in barbershops. Joop is at once deep and smoky yet clean and soapy, which makes no sense, but so it is. It's dark, but in sort of a cheerful way. It's strong, and if you apply too much, it feels scratchy on the back of your throat. However, as it dries down, it develops sort of a "Black Shalimar" kind of vibe and notes of powdery vanilla and sandalwood make themselves known. It starts out kind of shocking and harsh, but it becomes softer and gentler as it dries down. It teeters between masculine and feminine; a guy could definitely wear this. Definitely more of a nighttime scent, and only for cold weather. I'd never wear this in summer.

ladyofoldboots

This is the first fragrance in my collection that I would describe as “fun”, and that’s probably why my husband likes it. At first spray, it reminds me powerfully of Giorgio Beverly Hills, the sparkly 80’s floral. It slowly eases away from the flowers and toward the sandalwood, which is the most dominant and lingering note in this concoction. Even as it becomes woodier it stays exuberant, not smoky or incense-y, but something zesty and almost green. It has a character of fruitiness without me being able to actually pin down any actual fruit smells. I do not personally find this one to be heavy or overpowering. It has an exuberance and an energy that perks me up throughout the day when I catch a whiff.

PLUMPIE

If you can handle intense linear incense all day then this is a bargain scent for you, super long lasting smells like sandalwood and something about it is reminiscent of Ciara to me, but its too intense for me and gives me a headache.

charcolatebar

I can see why this is so well-loved by many; in the bottle it's delightfully retro, with the powdery, white floral and amber notes blending beautifully with the incense base. Sadly, on my skin it goes overpoweringly woody and musky. I tried layering with pure rose, which brought out a horrible burnt rubbery note. This was a blind buy and I'm so disappointed as I love 80s classics! Haven't looked into whether the civet is animal-dervied though D:

Going to hold onto it and see if I like it better in time...

For The Love of Perfume

Oh how I wish I liked this....but unfortunately I don't. I really like Joop Le Bain, but this is just not for me. It seems like all the notes seem to meld together. Too sharp and too strong. I was hoping the dry down after a few hours would make it better, but it didn't. I envy those that can wear this.

sophiesnose

This is so different than what they are making today. This is PERFUME! Strong, sexy, woody, amber, incense, vanilla. It's very dramatic. Less is more here! Go easy and it's amazing.

JacquieDS

Long lasting gorgeous incense,,,

trevorrobertlee

Can you imagine a 13 year-old boy wearing this fragrance and absolutely owning it because that was me in eighth grade after I mistakenly purchased Joop Femme instead of Joop Homme. This is an 80's power bomb! I received so many compliments when I wore it. I recently purchased a vintage bottle and it works the same wonders that it did ten years ago. This was a beautiful mistake that I made. Never judge a scent by its given "gender group" or age range. Love this one! Those fruity notes mixed with the jasmine are KILLER! Delish!

I'm usually into modern perfumes and Joop femme didn't look like something I'd like.I don't like dominant sandalwood(as in samsara forexample)and I'm afraid of animalic notes but when I received a 5mil decant of it as an extra in a swap,I was eager to try it.we don't know when we'll met an unexpected love,my experience with presley moments taught me that I'm capable of loving some animalic classics
After testing couple of light, fresh and clean modern florals,Joop femme seemed like a joyful new experience for my nose.I could feel it's 80s vibe but not that I find it old or impossible to wear.aldehydes are there but not too much.on my skin it's a deliciously sweet, slightly spicy floralfruity dipped in honey-like amber.I can't say what are fruity notes here.they're ripe and appear lightly just to give a delightful vibe to jasmine and orange flower.it's delicious but totally different with modern gourmands.it has a balsamic-vanilla-woody,rich and deep deliciousness, mature and sexy.it becomes even better as time passes and dries down to a soft powdery scent of flowers, musk, amber, vanilla and woody notes
It's also potent and wafts strongly while there's also a softness in it.
Dear Joop femme welcome to my wishlist

OmarAladdin

The 80's fragrances have this distinctive animalic note that is usually due to civet. This one is no exception.
Civet is blended very well with the tones of notes here to give a final result of a "Niche quality" unisex perfume by today's standards.

This is wonderful. I loved it way back when I was much younger than nowadays, and I still love it today. If I should ever be so lucky to walk down the aisle one more time, it will be with Joop Femme on me. She is so feminine, in a very sweet way. Not a femme fatale, not alluring, but still super enticing and romantic. She is not a love potion, but a frag you want to wear for a romantic stroll on a beach promenade in the night, lanterns lit and holding hands with the man you love. It puts my man in a "love to care for you" mood. You know, like someone lovingly wipes a strand of your hair out of your face before kissing you gently, or helps you into your jacket and then places a tender kiss onto your cheek. Somehow it evokes the care bear in the man I love, and that makes me love Joop Femme even more.

This is perfume with a capital P!

Released in 1987 from the German fashion house of Joop! This was and is a marvelous unisex & woman's fragrance. Before I start my review, let me get something off my natural C cup chest if you don't mind. I'm getting tired of labels, no seriously. Women's men's, aldehydic, floral, Oriental, chypre, etc. I realize that it helps in the selection and classification of fragrances the way that botanists classify flowers according to their genus. Personally I like to look at fragrances as my friends each with their own distinct personality and style, each with a different contribution into my life. Joop Femme is a cheap drugstore fragrance. You can buy this online between 15, 20 something and 30 something bucks. Affordable. But when I call it cheap I don't mean it's badly made. This is an absolutely gorgeous, powerful perfume for the woman who loves to dress up, wear her hair up, makes a statement, lots of make up, sequins, bracelets, jewels, necklaces, and that 1980's greed is good ostentatiousness and extravagance. This is indeed straight out of the 80's the era that brought us Giorgio Beverly Hills, Poison, Rumba, Coco, Teatro Alla Scala and Passion. I don't think this fragrance wears anything like those perfumes but it does have that same aura of high power perfume from the 80's. And I love that. This means it lasts a hell of a lot longer than the shy body mist weaklings that are produced today and have more complex notes, more notes than most perfumes, and a rotation of notes that smell amazing both individually and as a whole body of fragrance. This perfume kicks butt! I am so sorry I had not experienced it earlier as a fragrance slut.

The bottle is not as creative or attractive or artsy as some other 80's bottles. In fact it's downright plain. It also comes off as unisex. The scent itself in today's context is a bit masculine-soapy or unisex Oriental woodsy musky but it can be enjoyed by the woman who loves strong fragrances and bold aromas that leave behind a trail that other women will follow. This is for the empowered woman in a position of leadership. I'm talking Angela Merkel, Theresa May, and in her day, Margaret Thatcher. Perhaps even Golda Meier. Hillary Clinton. You get it. A woman who makes decisions, big ones, not just what's for dinner. This is a woman who takes herself seriously and whom others take seriously and have nothing but respect and admiration for. Serious aldehydes open the fragrance and conclude with woodsy notes.

The first minute is rather old fashioned harsh chemical aldehydes which turn fresh with a bit of fruit. Traditional formula notes of citrus courtesy of a lemon give it a unisex citrus touch. A really good lemon or citron scent right from the start. Fresh, zesty, citrusy. There is a touch of spice with coriander and it reminds me of the opening to Krizia Teatro Alla Scala and of Fendi. Bright energetic fresh aldehydes and citrus, and soapy suds. The nondescript fruit notes are not very clear because it's so citrusy for me, but it's a good fruity boozy aroma that I love. I can see why some have likened it to Rumba by Balenciaga or Lepidus. Very sweet and fruity as it starts, and classically feminine even as it progresses into the heart of floral notes.

The flowers come off as heady and fragrant, but rather soapy and not aggressive, powdery or green floral. I can smell the orange blossom which immediately follows the citrus notes and the jasmine. These are the 2 big florals to my nose. A beautiful and very elegant jasmine, an Oriental princess. There is also a lily note or rather lily of the valley and a citrusy rose bush. It reminds me of orange scented rose bush leaves. The orange blossom and rose are well matched. This is a pretty decent floral. For those of us who love florals but don't want to wear anything too flowery this is the antithesis of bigger florals like Yves Saint Laurent Paris or Estee Lauder Beautiful. Still it IS floral and quite lovely.

As the fragrance dries, it smells woodsy and vanillic. Sandalwood and cedar wood are married together in the final stage of the performance. There may not be green florals but here we have a green dry down of green themed notes that are heavy hitters like patchouli and oak moss. The oak moss is a favorite note of mine in base notes and it's quite noticeable in the dry down. Beautiful green moss. There is not as much patchouli as moss but it's aromatic, green, herbal, and so beautiful as a chypre. There is amber and vanilla and musk. O God. I had to catch my breath. Every note towards the dry down was so lovely. This is a long lasting journey of scents and it's on me for over 7 hours. All day. I love that. Mature? Yeah but we have to grow up sometime. There is enough musk in this thing including a controversial civet note whether real or synthetic, that smells masculine and very animalic. It reminds me of the civet in Passion by Elizabeth Taylor. There is also a touch of Chanel No. 5 and of Joan Collins Spectacular! The animal notes are fine but I wish this had included leather or suede. This is a good musky cologne for men if the man has no problem wearing a fragrance marketed for women. It's also interesting to note that the Joop! Homme the man's cologne version of this frag has a similar feel but is actually quite unisex and wearable for women. So the Joop! nose behind this scent Michel Almairac had a bigger audience or demographic in mind. It's quite unisex without being outrageous. Beautiful powerful and a real perfume in a world of sissy perfume.

The fragrance is evocative of cabaret, specifically German Berlin cabaret from the 1920's. It makes me think of Marlene Dietrich singing Lili Marlene in black eye make up and leather dress and boots. This is a very German-Euro fragrance. It has a luxurious soapiness that can only come from those old time aldehyde fragrances from Europe. This is a big show so when you wear it try it on a little at a time. Don't spray too liberally because this is one of those headache inducers and nose hitters. This is asking you to wear her with grace and subtlety. For the hell of it sometimes I spray liberally because I love the smell but I make sure that I'm the only one in the house when I do that. Sometimes I do like to get noticed good or bad attention don't care so I put on strong perfumes like this when I go out. Not always though. But this is a dreamy amazing and not to be missed fragrance. If you like luxurious cheapies check it out. This is fabulous! Go Joop!

Lockon

I love this fragrance on my girlfriend, fruity & woody smell.. just drags me in.
I would buy this again and again for her.
Cost about $20 for a 3.4 Oz bottle.
Sillage two feet from the body.
Last 8- 9 hours or more.
Would buy again.

I always found Joop homme more "feminine" than Joop femme. I love them both, they were well balanced perfumes, round, Homme spicier and sweeter, Femme more animalic. Poor reformulations made by Coty changed them in mere parodies of their former selves.

Dr. Social

I am a man and use this quite frequently without any fear of falling muffins. It is clear that Joop! Homme is based on this, there are lots of similiarities between the two but I find this one less spicy, more fluffy and pungently animalic with some inaugural metallicness. Cozy and powerful.

Oddly enough the bottle itself doesn't have the Femme text slapped onto it. You can always ditch the box or put some tape over it if you're intimidated by debatable marketing strategies.

Its full on, Joop Femme...
I love intense, spicy, orientals like Shalimar and Samsara, and the original 80s Obsession was my fav, among other heavies like Poison, Hynoptic Poison, LouLou (still one of tops)..,
Joop Femme is strong, a little goes a long way.
Too much can be nauseating, especially after a meal, too much reminds me of Youth Dew, which I have and can only wear it on rare occasion.
Yes, I would wear it to office, but minimal 1 squirt, as I would wear all my heavies.
Life is too short not to love Big, including Big perfume, Big hair.
I reached puberty in the 80s, and partied on into the 90s, big hair, big nights....

bronstein

This was probably different and more expensive in the 1980s, but it's not too bad nowadays. It feels a bit like buying a used car, but a decent one. Nevertheless, there are far better and more distinguished classics from the 1980s around.

Im shocked that this was not compared to Boucheron. This is VERY SIMILAR to Boucheron. Soft and powdery. This is not a STRONG perfume at all. Strong to me is : Youth Dew, Beautiful, Estee. All the Lauders are fairly strong scents but this is not a STRONG scent at all. Its beautiful that much I can say about this but the scent does not last long. Im on a different planet with my review but I stand my ground on this writing.

gtabasso

goes on fruity floral, sweet then dries down drier and musky, animal, powder bit medicinal; interesting and unlike anything else I own; really like it; powdery, incense, reminds me a bit of Tauer but soft; this must have tuberose and ylang in it; the base is so sweet and powdery; I would guess there is iris in it as well; the base is a powdery iris, creamy sandalwood and a hint of coriander; in the final final base, it's got almost an incense vibe

Käfä

Noope. Aldehydes all the way.

On me it smelled old lady. Something my grandmother would've worn.
-But I gave the bottle to a friend, and on her it smelled nice. On her skin it turned out a bit more floral and powdery (the aldehydes were still there, but not as prominent).

Guessing it's an excellent example of a scent that needs to sit on your skin for a fair judging.

I wanted to like it, but aldehydes and I aren't that good a friends...

nadia11

love love love this fragrance. It does settle down , being quite strong at the beginning.(to a beautiful warm creamy musky tone) It lasts forever on me. A great price too. Always get lots of compliments when wearing this perfume. Beautiful. always in my collection with Dior Addict and Revlon unforgettable

GourmandGirl

Ye Gods, you seriously need nostrils of steel when you first spray this! It really is an 'oh dear God, what have I done' kinda perfume that could almost melt your skin right off. When I first sprayed this I swear I saw stars, it was like running head first into a brick wall!

I absolutely detest it for the first half hour or so, but.... if you can get through that first blast without running for the nearest decontamination chamber with some heavy duty wire wool at hand, it really is worth the wait... sort of. It turns slowly into a powdery, musky, slightly dirty scent that has an almost (almost)dreamy quality about it. Never has a perfume taken me to such opposite extremes before, it's a strange one for sure!

It's a real headache inducer, so if you suffer from migraines or sensitivities i'd steer well clear, unless you wanna be laid up in a dark room for a week. Goes without saying that it's a beast, they'd smell you coming a mile off so be very, VERY gentle with it!

socorrosouza

I have always thought Joop for men was sweeter and more feminine than Joop for women. Now, I smell only incense/sandalwood instead of the vanilla/civet/jasmine/sandalwood combo that I was used to, so that goes doubly. Longevity used to be 12 hours plus and now is much reduced to 4 hours on my skin and sillage is still heavy but lasts less than an hour instead of 3/4 hours. I used to spray JF once and get to the next day with it as a skin scent, but no more. As the aroma doesn't smell as it did in the 90s, that may be a good thing, as I won't repurchase.

ZoopyGoggins

First of all I would like to start off with this: I am a man, and quite a manly man at that. It just so happens that I like some sweeter and/or floral scents.
I don't go with all the Mens/Womens categorisation, which I believe is largely a marketing strategy. If I like a fragrance I'll wear it.
Now for this one. Joop! Femme is easily carried off by a man if you want to wear it. I dislike when people say things like 'If you have the confidence.'
You don't need confidence to wear a fragrance that is marketed towards the opposite sex, you just need the desire to wear it and to enjoy it.
This to me is beautiful. Sweet, floral, musky and soft with more than an undertone of masculinity. I definitely get the incense vibe that others have mentioned too but I won't pretend to know more than I do about individual notes so I'll leave it at that with the description and move on to performance.
I have just tried a recent formulation two days in a row. Two small sprays on the back of one wrist both times. I was catching wafts of it off myself all day and I kept checking the sprayed spot to monitor any phases. It stays pretty strong but the slight harshness I found upon initial application dies back and it softens into a delicious and addictive beauty with a twist of unisex sexiness.
I checked on the morning after the first wear and it was clearly still there, not faintly either.
Longevity is brilliant and sillage is big. Then there's the price. I can get this for under £20 for 100ml here in the UK.
Epic, awesome and superb all rolled into one!
Safe blind buy at the price but it's really easy to get a tryout of this. Give it a go, male or female.
I just ordered a bottle and I'm becoming a fragrance hoarder so I'll probably get more.
Love it.

ouladybird2005

After trying a mini of Joop, I just had to track down a full bottle, but I made sure to track down a vintage bottle that hasn't been reformulated. I'm not sure how the reformulation is, but the vintage is really amazing. It's a lovely oriental perfume that spicy and slightly sweet and floral and the sandalwood in the base just makes it really creamy as well. if you can try it out before you buy it, that might be good idea if you're unsure if it's going to be too strong for you to wear, however it's really lovely and if you like Oriental fragrances it's worth having in your collection.

sygrid29

i recently got this one thru a facebook friend on a reasonable price. mine was made by coty, but the juice seems weak. i can't compare it to the vintage version but basing on the one made by lancaster, that one seems stronger. but anyway it's still beautiful. i'd rather have this one than the recent dior poison which is similar in strength but a lot pricier

Zaleska

It reminds me of Nag Champa incenses - and I love it!

polly golightly

Bit of trivia: In college I was a fragrance model. Yeah my friends mocked me, but I was making $15 an hour, unheard of in 1990 and for a college student it was the perfect flex time job (and I was young and cute way back then). Anyway I worked for JOOP!/Cool Water. JOOP! mens sold like hot cakes, everyone loved it...the womens? Not so much. As much as we fragrance soldiers pushed this, it never took off. To me its a pretty potent powerhouse bomb of the day (Ysatis and Safari and Treasor were all the rage). I kind of liked the oakmoss, jasmine and vanilla muskiness of this. Different and distinctive for sure, and very unusual. But then again, not a lot of other scents smell like JOOP! for men or women. True, it might seem dated now and may stick out like a sore thumb, but its cool to be different and not a cookie cutter of everyone else. I'm sure there are cool young chicks out there that could rock this retro bomb with pride. I say go for it.

armacoonsum

This came to me in a precious vintage coffret with Anne Klein II, Perry Ellis 360, Bal A Versailles, Fred Hayman 273, and Animale.
I'd found and coveted the set because of my beloved and nearly impossible to obtain Anne Klein II, and I was interested in Animale, BAV and Joop , and curious about the others.
I just dabbed a bit on, prepared for the whole cringe-and-scrub show.
What a wonderful surprise! I smell heady florals I would expect in a perfume from this era,and the crispness of the aldehydes I have just now come to love. The tuberose in this is velvety instead of rubbery...nothing wrong with rubbery tuberose; in fact, I love it... this one just happens to be velvety, bordering on suede like.
While we're on the subject, I *swear* I smell leather, identical to the one in Shalimar... and, strongly! Is it that animalic musk + aldehydes + oak moss= leather? Whatever the sorcery behind it (could be my own skin, or nose) I am happy to have it there, as I am happy to have leather in just about any fragrance.
Anyway, back to the floral aspect. I do smell tuberose, but there has to be more to this bouquet... I sense a good dose of narcissus and a whisper of ylang. Yes, I see the notes listed, and I'm telling you, I don't smell rose or orange blossom (two of my favorites, so I am well-versed). I smell narcissus and maybe ylang, so there.
All in all, Joop Femme is a womanly, sophisticated, complex joy to wear. I'm working from a mini splash here, so perhaps not getting the throw or longevity I might from a nice satisfying spritz... but, oh, that *will* happen. ;)

Softer and sweeter than Lanvin Arpege, more floral and balsamic than animalic in comparison to Arpege!
This perfume have strong identity, remarkable and is not to everyone.
Parfums doesn't have a gender and age, use it if you like!

I recently sampled Creed's Jasmine Imperatrice Eugenie, and loved it right away - until I saw the price! Reading on here I saw that around 20 people had agreed that it smelled like this Joop Femme. I thought it was worth a try, seeing as this can be bought for roughly 10% of the price of the Creed.

I was lucky enough to drop on to a dirt cheap bottle on ebay, new without cellophane. It arrived today and I eagerly opened the box and sprayed onto my arm.
The first 3 thoughts that struck me were:
1. God, that is nice, mmmm.
2. Wow, it does seem to smell very much like the JIE from Creed
3. How have I never come across this before, and how many other amazing things are hiding from me in plain sight?

I realise this is not much of a review. I intend to do a proper full wear of this and also to do a side by side comparison with the Creed so I will try and report back with a better review then.
In the meantime, anyone else who has tried the Creed JIE but been put off by price, this is well worth a try. In fact I would suggest it is worth a try regardless. First impressions of this are v good. Lovely feminine scent, seems to have moderate sillage though hard to say from just one arm, and it seemed to last well too.
I will try to report back soon!

roseombre

Jasmine? No. I feel a hyper a Neroli/orange blossom tuberose-like fruity vanillic amber presence. Reminds me Byzance and Aria Missoni.
GOOD yummy.. a solar bomb.

I heard so many good things about this perfume so decided to buy myself a bottle. Wow this is strong for a edt so a couple of sprays is enough. Initially it is sharp but soon settles into a kind of baby powder smell, soft, powdery with a hint of Musk. There is a slight medicinal smell but its not offensive or nasty. I love this perfume and cannot understand why its took me so long to try it. I don't find it masculine at all.

Just realised it reminds me of Lou Lou which i used to wear and loved.

Strongbygod

Wow they added so many more perfumes to their line, I had it when Joop! first came out and it was just Joop! and no other perfumes. I was one of the first to buy this perfume a splurge as a teenager who wanted to buy my special sophisticated perfume. I loved it, the heavy and I mean heavy smells of oriental flavors and some musk matched my skin tone and personality I admit, though it was way to overpowering for a teenager. I will definitely buy it again now that I am quite older and am now sophisticated to wear it then when I was a young teenager.

lotus and jasmine

I received my sample from the wonderful Mi55anthr0py- thank you!

To my nose, the opening accord of Joop! is distinctly balsamic, sweet, rich, thick, and spicy. The florals quickly open, adding clean jasmine and sweet orange blossom, with a touch of bergamot and a hint of vanillic aldehydes. Joop! in the heart phase is warm, sweet, almost luminously lovely.

In the dry down, softly rich fruit notes round the accord, just a hint, filling the scent and complementing the creamy sandalwood and dry spicy cedar. I don't get any civet, and the woods remain subtle. The star of this scent is the soft floral, tonka, light spice, and soft fruit.

Just lovely- This is one that needs to be tried to be believed!

Annica

You mean it´s reformulated?

nikoleta1

I tried in a store a newer version of Joop, it has nothing in common with one from 90s, don't waist your money and hopes there. Smells bad too. But used to be such a gem...

LizzieDee

It is so interesting reading these reviews and which notes are evident to different people. On me, Joop smells almost medicinal. I wouldn't call this a sensuous scent, it's appeal is intellectual. It is oddly unisex and very distinctive. I went through a phase of wearing this every day when I went back to university as a mature student to do a masters degree. It was part of my daily "uniform" of crisp white cotton shirt, black jeans and tortoiseshell glasses that somehow helped me to concentrate on my studies.

sweefa

Joop Femme is pure 80s magic. One of these perfumes that can really carry you through the day and shield you from the world's rigors. Shame on me I discovered this wonderful fragrance only last autumn. But it became my favourite immediately and now I can't stop wearing it. To be true I wanna bathe in it!
Think of warm and bright yellow honey with vanilla and heady flowers, spiced with some koriander and a soft little civet paw, just enough to give it depth and make it even smoother. The base purrs vanilla powderish, slightly sweet and reminds me a bit of roasted hazelnuts though it's actually the sandalwood that does the trick. It's so comfy but also sexy, just heavenly sumptuous and lush. A real treat. I have to be careful not to overdose it for it's pretty strong but my nose gets used to it so fast since I'm literally inhaling this. I suppose it was even stronger in the 80s but I'm absolutely fine with what I have. (My bottles are from 2012 according to batch code.)
I never stocked up on a fragrance so quickly but in this case I had to get three 100ml bottles already to feel save. But I guess I need even more. We all know by now they ruin everything sooner or later and I never want to run out of this or suffer any shortage of it. Thank god it's also very affordable.

First time I tested Joop, the coriander note was first to reach my nose. Never, I thought. Then it was clearanced and not having much to lose, I decided on a second test spritz. This time I picked up sandalwood and a floral note tucked in there deeply. Tolerable, I thought, eying the savings. The dry down was incredible with my chemistry. Amazingly I can isolate the flowers after the spices settle down. It is a winter fragrance here, but I've worn two spritz on cooler spring days. Still trying to sniff out the civet. All I can say is that with my limited knowledge of notes, it is a complex composition, revealing to me a new phase of development each time I wear it. Enjoy.

Bigsly

This review is for the vintage drydown. I've seen some labels with Lancaster on them but mine is before that formulation, if there are differences. I'd place this one somewhere between Royal Delight and vintage Rumba. It's closer to Rumba (though I'd say the first half hour or so is closer to RD) except that one has a very powerful sandalwood note, which is likely enhanced by strong aroma chemicals (polysantol?). Anyway, J!F is very nicely done, and definitely unisex for the niche crowd. This is yet another example of niche before niche, so to speak, except that this one is blended better than I expect from niche. I don't know if actual civet was used but it smells more natural than in scents that I think used a synthetic substitute. Consider how you can still get a good deal on this one in vintage formulation on ebay; what are you waiting for? Needless to say, this isn't for the young, party, or mainstream crowd.

Nekhbet

I don't use it alone. I would dislike it. I always try to layer it with other perfumes. As for evening night it is great with a hint of Black X for her by P. Rabanne. With other scents it really becomes special for itself and for the other layered perfume.

2746cstreet

Weirdly I don't find this ultra sexy or even all that animalic?

Most likely it's the lack of sharp florals or strongly soapy tones. I find those are what seem to make animalic notes really screech and causes them to come off "pissy" to my nose.

The beginning stages of Joop Femme are a honeyed jasmine-amber. Smooth and creamy. A restrained Oriental.

Deep into the drydown, this starts to smell exactly like Nag Champa incense. Which is interesting, but comes off a bit "common". Like why would I want to smell like the corner bodega?

drikaquinze

OMG, why it took me so long to sniff this beauty?
I think it's a bit too strong for my taste, but it's so good that I don't mind the loudness.
And there's the civet note - pungent, feels like a punch in my nose.
I cannot wear this everyday, but when I do... makes me feel amazing.
And I would never have given this gem a chance before reading some posts about perfume dupes in the Fragrantica Club section. So, thanks to everyone that share information there!!!!!

To the tune of 'Shoop' by Salt-n-Pepa

*Joop! Joop-a-Joop Joop-a-Joop how I hoped you'd be dupe-dupa-dupe if you could, but too strong the smell of cat pee and poop in the woods Joop-a-joop!*

This will be a two-in-one comparison review as I purchased this as a hopeful replacement to its comparison with Revlon's Unforgettable, harder to find and too expensive.

My hopes were high for Joop so I ripped it out of the box, sprayed a big pump on one arm and grabbed my Revlon for the other. Compare time!

At first spritz I was elated. I could not differentiate the two for the first 15 minutes. Also, I was curious how Joop Femme could possibly be similar to Rev's Unforget and masculine at the same time as mentioned here, being RU is angora soft, sweet, gently woodsy femme all the way, all day, night and forever. It did not take long to find out.

Both start out basically identical at first. As development takes place, RU dries down to the gentle, incredible amber it starts with along with its sandalwood deliciousness and feathery white powdered musk; a softer version of the beauty we begin with. I love that quality in RU as I have a plethora of heavy spicies with feline markings and need no more.

Joop! - How I do lovest thou, but here comes the "but"... You are actually a man. Aerosmith's "Dude Looks Like a Lady" should be your commercial theme song. You almost fooled me. Had it not been for my luscious Unforgettable to aid me in checking your parts, you may have had me. I think of Austin Powers "It's a MAN baeey-beee!"

I love civet and appreciate the depth and richness it lends. In fact, I wish RU had the staying power and depth the civet cat gifts in Joop Femme. Where my RU takes me to the divine realm with its velvety smooth, woodsy dry down, Joop darts wildly into the woodsy thick and proudly, distinctly marks his spot. ("Animalic", "Woody oriental, civet as most detected ingredient is listed at top so I should have known. Dur, dur, dur) RU is a feline seductress gyrating slowly in the vicinity of the wooded area. Joop is the cat actually marking the woods, and the woods are campfire acrid. Revlon Unforgettable is the aged, smooth, luscious, juicy wine. Joop Femme is the wine sweet at first taste, richer in depth, overtly aged in the woodiest wood barrel and does become very male to/on me; not simply unisex.
*whispers hand beside mouth* It's Tarzan!... and I don't want to smell like him.
I am woman! Me Jane. Roar! Okay, well.... *Purrrrr!*.

I am not sorry I purchased Joop Femme. It is a quality keeper that definitely has a place in my collection. Because it is overbearingly wooden to me it will serve nicely layered as a base under fruits and florals I may be in the mood to tweak. Joop Femme is a rich and sultry runner up that will do well but it does not, cannot compete with, compare to, or outshine my reigning Beloved Queen Revlon Unforgettable. :) I like Joop Wood.. er, Femme, and it is a nicely, almost spot dupe of Unforgettable for only a few minutes... but I do not find the dry down particularly beautiful, sexy or suited to my personal taste to wear alone.

llburris

Since my skin eats perfumes alive, Joop! is in my top 5 favorites. It is awesome! I wallow in deliciousness all day long when I wear this. Yes, it is strong, but that is what I need and is hard to find outside finding a good quality vintage from the 80s or 90s......and pay out the nose for it. Love, love, LOVE it!

In 1987, the brand Joop! (it reads “yôpe”) launched Femme, its first fragrance and a success that remains alive to this day, almost 3 decades later. The secret of this success is due to the timeless character of this perfume. It is a floral-oriental with woody nuances and a lot of presence. It contains notes of neroli, bergamot, aldehydes, and fruit accords, in the output. Then, notes of Bulgarian rose, lily of the valley, coriander, and orange blossom are joined, forming the heart of the fragrance. Finally, musk, amber, vanilla, cedar, oakmoss, patchouli, and sandalwood are used, forming the base. Originally, it was used the Civet, of animal origin, currently replaced by synthetic components.

What can I say about this perfume? First of all, Joop! Femme is very well made because it does not have artificial nuances. Moreover, it is an Eau de Toilette with more power than many Eau de Parfum out there. By the way, care must be taken with the number of sprays, because it is another one of those examples in which "less is more".

When it touches the skin, there's nowhere to run. You identify, clearly, a women's fragrance. At this point, you may be asking yourself: "but isn't it a female fragrance?". And the answer is: Yes! However, it has the reputation of being more "masculine" than the version made for men (Joop! Homme, from 1989), which makes that the male audience become increasingly interested in trying it. And it has a reason: it seems that the output notes don't even exist in Joop! Femme.

Immediately, what we see is the floral bouquet, rich in the smell of orange blossom with the touch of jasmine. And without much fanfare, the woody nuances emerge and provide a very large and unisex olfactory comfort. At this stage of evolution, the sandalwood is very present and has high quality. It reminds me of incense sticks from good brands, like those that take more than one hour to burn completely. And the vanilla is very creamy!

From this moment on, the fragrance is luxurious, shareable and slightly powdery. And as time passes, more delicious it gets on the skin.
By knowing this creation, it becomes very clear the reason of its success for so long. Merits of the great perfumer Michel Almairac.

This one is so loud you need to wear it with a muffler. Id wear this only if I was seriously in heat, and the last of my eggs was dropping tomorrow.

I recall reading that perfumes from the 70's to late 80's had to compete with tobacco smoke, and were formulated to be stronger. Joop Femme seems to fit that bill. It's not that it's a loud fragrance...it's just powerful. Like someone having to yell to be heard over the noise of a crowded pub, this perfume is rather loud and yet not.

The first 3 minutes were an "oh god what have I done" of spicy-aldehyde-urine. Then it immediately started to settle into what I can only describe as creamy pudding made from vanilla, amber, orange blossom and sandalwood. Is categorized as an oriental woody, but I could also see it considered a floral oriental; the floral notes--especially that lovely orange blossom, combined with a hint of jasmine (a tad dirty). After an hour, I can smell the patchouli as well. I think it is quite unique, but not awkward or odd. (And either I don't know what civet smells like....or I can't smell it here).

As a lover of florientals and orientals--and anything with a good dose of sandalwood--this is delectable. Sillage is modest at least; longevity unproven.

Edit: I see drugstore classics compare this to Bijan--which I absolutely adore--and I agree that if you love one, you will probably love the other; but they are different enough where you might want to own both.

purchased this when it first came out. barely used but still smelling good as stored well. it is a real statement fragrance sums up the 1980's big and bold to go with those shoulder pads. Well priced. Now prefer more sophisticated perfumes like Elie Saab le parfum intense.

This is a gorgeous, perfectly balanced musk/jasmine fragrance that never fails to amaze me.
It starts with aldehydes (but in a nice way) and fruity notes and goes on with white flowers and a wonderful mixture of musk and sandalwood.
Incredibly, I cannot smell any civet, which is a note I can usually detect immediately and I strongly dislike because it usually smells too fecal to me; but in this fragrance everything smells smooth, beautiful and very sexy.
I love having it in my collection.

One of the few sweet perfumes that I simply adore!

Joop seems to perfectly balance creamy, powdery, floral, and vanillic notes on a SUPERB sandalwood base. I feel while wearing it that I must be enjoying a Guerlain, as there are aspects about this Oriental that distinctly call to mind the gorgeous civet, vanilla, sandalwood vibe in Shalimar.

They are by no means smell - alikes, since Joop Femme is much more floral and ( if I may say so ) complicated than Shalimar. But the rich interplay of civet and sandalwood smells equally astounding in both.

Five Stars

Update - Another Oriental in the same Super Rich category would be the original Bijan for women. Lovers of Joop should give it a try! They are by no means the same, so having one does not preclude wanting the other. :) Bijan has a sandalwood - spiced depth so thick you could cut it with a knife. Deep, billowing clouds of orange blossoms swirl around the base..... Memorable.

on me this is like jan paul gaultier classic which is awesome i love them both now <3 and joop-femme is cheaper so i will not spare it!

there is a super rubbery thing that happens here
when i wear joop, i think
"i'm gumby, dammit!"
and i think it over and over
i love the artificial quality this has, but i can only take it in small doses
i like to wear it out
not unlike red lipstick
it feels like camouflage
like i'm playing a character...
and that character is gumby...dammit.

Ooooooooooo Boy !!! This is STROOOOOOOOOONG and potent and on top of that sweet.
I like many of the German Powerperfumehouses as Jill Sander, Joop and Bogner among others, but this is even to strong for me.
Will se what happenes when it mellows down..............

This was a blind buy for me. When I first sprayed it I was like 'Gee, this is too strong, I'll not be able to wear that in public'. Immediately I've got a connection to my childhood memories. I couldn't remember what was that this smell reminded me off. And then it came to me it's smells like the hair salon in 90's to which my mum was taking me when I was a kid. So that's why I thought it smelled like a hairspray when I first tried it. Actually, I asked my mum if she's familiar with Joop! Femme and she was like 'Yes, I wore it all the time when you were young and you were constantly playing with my bottle'. So the mistery was solved. Anyway the sillage is enormous but it's not overpowering which in the beginning I thought it was going to be. It's just that the first spray is quite scary, but then it's not bad at all. It screams 80'a and is definetly making a statement. I'm really pleased with this blind buy.

alchimia72

Sandalwood based fragrance with a hint of tropical fruits. Very easy to wear, perfect for daily use. Warm and cozy but not overwhelming.

A ex boyfriend who clearly loves this perfume talked me into getting it, initially I didn't understand the appeal, however it didn't take long or many sprays to fall in love with it, unlike the ex boyfriend lol.

I'm surprised about how much like Joop Femme! The top notes are intense but soon it mellows down to a beautiful jasmine and sandalwood fragrance. Usually I'm not too found of the combination of aldehydes and vanilla, but this concoction somehow works? Perhaps because the sandalwood and the civet? Nevertheless, it works and it's well balanced and quite powerful with a moderate longevity. It grows on me, I like it a lot!

The opening for Femme is quite aldehydic, which I like. The lovely jasmine lasts into the dry down. There's a similarity to Joop! Berlin in the sandalwood, tonka, amber woody accords which is just golden to me.

I'm unaccustomed to civet but this is a revelation. The vanilla, sandalwood and jasmine keeps the civet in check and helps blend it into ambery incense.

Joop! Femme is a powerful fragrance, so go lightly. I have a sample on order but may just cave and buy the jolly bottle!

Edited to add: two days later caved in and bought the bottle :) Very reasonably priced for such a fine perfume. The more I wear this the more I appreciate this gorgeous fragrance - I'm delighted with it.

You need attitude to wear this perfume. It is a classical yet no age perfume. High class and style. When i sprayed it for the first time on my wrist my thought was : old lady perfume, not for me! But after 30 minutes.... What was that marvelous scent? And then i started to wear it. Over and over. I feel sexy,stylish,beautiful,....WOMEN when i ware this and draws a lot of compliments! I don't care if outside are 30 degrees and sun or -15 and freezing or if it is night or day because i ware it anyway. Not for those who likes fresh-fruity perfumes. It is heavy,floral-oriental with some woody accords and longlasting with a great stilage. And as a personal opinion i would recommend it for 35+ ,but this is my opinion.

francess.raymundo

This is such a classic perfume. i've loved it since the early 90s when i was in junior high!

I needed to buy this for nolstalgic reasons...this was one of my first 'big girl' perfumes...I know this is from the 80's(.... and oh boy is it ever!!) but I wore it in the early 90's when I was finally old enough (so I thought) to pull off such a powerhouse. Joop is IN YOUR FACE. There is nothing subtle about it. The hallways of my highschool smelled strongly of Joop and 'Aussie' hairspray. In other words it was extremely popular, although now I don't think it would be appropriate for school...maybe a nightclub or an outdoor thing where you can 'air out' a bit. I never knew there was civet in this when I was younger and seeing that little rat looking face and knowing something that is excreted from it (yikes!) is in this perfume leaves me jaded about how I feel about it especially since it is such a strong perfume.(childish, I know) Ok, honest time...there is something 'old lady' smelling about it. I know that is such a cringeworthy term, but people who aren't as savvy perfume wise (like me) will know exactly what that means...it has a powdery wood scent with a bit of an odd 'bite'...I'm not sure exactly what it is that gives it the 'bite' but if applied too heavily that note will quite literally burn your throat. Some may disagree but this somewhat reminds me of Dior Poison, not entirely, but 'something about it' reminds me of Poison...wafts of Joop are giving me that vibe as I type... I would wear this if I felt sassy and adventurous. It's definitely a 'spray in the air and walk through' scent; do not spritz spritz spritz it on or you are going to choke yourself...seriously. I remember all the girls debating over how to pronounce 'Joop'...it was so comical that when someone asked what you were wearing you would hesitate before stuttering 'Jupe, Yope, Joooop....whatever it's called'...yes, this is highschool in a bottle for me. Perhaps I should've left it in the 90's but it's nice when I want to feel nolstalgic.

...it's been a little while since I've sprayed this and it is drying down quite nicely...sort of like an irate beautiful woman with a twisted scowl in a fit of rage, now calming to reveal her true lovely features...Joop is quite intense. Nice for Halloween, an incense note is peaking through giving it a slightly goth feel...like it.

My grandmother bought this for me when I was 11 years old.
I have to say, nan, bit of a weird choice for a kid! I don't think I ever touched it! Way too strong, too much of a grown up 80's vibe. I was all into those anorexic, synthetic, citrus types that were bit in the late 90's.

I sampled this yesterday, haven't come across it since! I think its popularity has waned... WOAH! This sure is an 80's powerhouse. I love the strong dirty civet, the sandalwood and what I thought was a very indolic ylang ylang which I guess is Jasmine. Very honeyed, sweet and vanilla heavy. Just the type of scent I love. It reminds me a bit of Bijan for women, both released in the same year.
This is a beautiful and interesting scent! Might hold off until next winter to purchase, though, will be VERY cloying in hot and humid weather.

Yesterday I bought this. It's excellent.I think I shall buy all the perfumes made by micheal Almeric. I think he is something extra ordinery genious.Joop Homme & Femme is the example of his being genious.

My lovely scent.
