My backup bottle(full presentation of Thierry Mugler edition) is up for grab.Letting go in Los Angeles area.DM IF INTERESTED.
Thanks!!!

Reviewing the oil perfumery version. This stuff is amazing. It's sweet and boozy but not disgustingly sweet, it's literally like a salted caramel chocolate brownie to my nose. The booze and coffee, this mix is heavenly when you pick it up. I prefer this over pure havane. If oil perfumery is any where near close to the original pure malt then I have no idea why this is discontinued. Loreal has fucked up. A*men fragrances are unique gourmands with that signature coffee note and there's really nothing like it. I hope one day Loreal can bring these back because paying $200-400 for a fragrance on ebay that was once found at discounters is absurd. Thanks to oil perfumery, a reputable fragrance imitation company that is doing what most clone fragrance houses should do and clone discontinued ones as these are so hard to find. Not a sponsor btw

#626 in my "Tour de Fragrance"

I have one more of the original A*Men flanker decants after this one, which once again breaks my heart that such an amazing scent was killed off by the barbarians at L'Oreal who acquired the Mugler house just to burn it to the ground. A*Men Pure Malt is not my favorite A*Men flanker, that being Pure Havane, but this is nevertheless a fabulous boozy scent that I would be glad to wear every day. I think if you combined the boozy Bentley Intense with the fruitier Mercedes Benz Club Extreme you'd have something sort of similar to this. Such a shame this is gone and the eBay scalpers have it at $300.

review for the clone Star Men Nebula which i bought after reading all the positive reviews on it. cost me 32 bucks shipped which was higher then it was 4 months ago it was going to around 20 on amazon
stuff seems good when smelling from sprayer very nice but its weak not lasting long but maybe a hour or two. . going to let it sit and hope it gets better with age . i all so picked up posh malt its stronger then nebula & its better of the two . posh malt is the winner

Mr Inquisitor

Perfect cologne for the cooler months. Nice and sweet.

Kyer

Wow, I actually really like this!

I do have to say that it seems like Mugler specializes in making fragrances that I can’t detect any of the notes unless I look them up in Fragrantica lol.

That being said, it smells fruity, sweet and rounded up by some smooth warmness, I’m unsure what are the malt, whiskey and peat doing to the fragrance but it’s definitely working. I haven’t smelled any fragrance that smells similar so far.

Pepin

Overhyped until nausea. Yes, it has a great opening, with the boozy notes, but after an hour you got... simply A-Men. And for the price tag, you can go up and look for Baraonda, or go down and get Star Men Nebula.
Don´t pay that much or you will regret it.
Unless you want it only for the show off. Then go on, boy, you got a whooooole A*Men line waiting for you.

MrMrBrian

Some niche houses I’ve found recently have gotton boozy fragrances right such as Baraonda & Kutay which are not just great, They’re awesome But smell similar..This one is so ahead of its time! I finally got to the point where I was tired of it.. To only look up 2 years later to see it’s quadrupled in price!! To have been buying bottles with no box cheap off eBay over & over because I bathed in it I’m lucky to still have a bottle along with a few partial bottles..This to me was the best Amen Flanker & was definitely way ahead of its time!

ginandrice

The fruity accord is phenomenal here. It adds a playful fructose facet to the whiskey and malt, without pulling too much focus and turning Pure Malt into a fruity fragrance proper. Instead the whiskey and malt are the primary shapers, with their round, spiced warmth and silky, browned-butter richness.

The coffee and peat are also a great touch, adding a bit of depth and darkness, without detracting from the overall vibe of loose, warm, playful indulgence.

The more of the A*Men line I smell, the more I think their playfulness is the thing I like the most about them. This smells like an indulgent adult milkshake—both in the sense that it's flavored with way more syrups than your parents would've let you use at once, and in the sense that you obviously put booze in it. It smells like the feeling of buying yourself the collectable Hot Wheels muscle car you begged for as a kid, and then racing it down the stairs while your dog watches in confusion. It smells like the feeling of digging out your teenage CD collection, buffing one of those bad boys on your shirt like god intended, and giving it a spin. If your wife comes in halfway through N-Trance's cover of Da Ya Think I'm Sexy? and catches you hip thrusting as you stir the spaghetti bolognese, well, she knows who she married.

Star Men Nebula vs A*Men Pure Malt:
I've had Nebula for a few months now and in my 40+ fragrances, it's one of my favorites. I had smelled once the Pure Malt on test strip in the past, but before today, I never had the opportunity to compare them side by side on my skin. I was really looking forward to doing this test because I couldn't get out of my head that I would perhaps appreciate the OG even more and that it might be worth paying the price. Well, no, not at all actually, I really prefer the Nebula and I would describe this one more as a twist on the Pure Malt than a clone: they are close but are also quite different. Pure Malt has that patchouli tar note that is part of many A*Men fragrances. Some people appreciate this note, but personally, I don't like it on my skin and this note is not present in the Nebula. Also, Nebula is sweeter, and the malt note is stronger. As a result, I find the Nebula has a much more gourmand profile witch I really appreciate. I'm glad I don't have to buy the original after all. I have some clones in my collection which are extremely close to the originals and in this sense, Nebula is not a good clone. But it is a good fragrance which has its own profile, which is inspired by A*Men Pure Malt. From a performance point of view, given that the Nebula is sweeter, I feel the projection is slightly better, but in both cases, it remains quite moderate. In terms of longevity, the Pure Malt last longer as a skin scent, but longevity remains average for both. Seriously, if you like this type of profile, the Nebula is so affordable that you shouldn't hesitate to try it.

As many here have already done, this review is for Star Men Nebula not Pure Malt. I had a travel spray of PM a few years ago and absolutely loved it. I figured at around $20 SMN was worth a shot…not only does it smell amazing it’s probably the best clone fragrance I’ve ever smelled, backup bottle worthy.

***This review is actually for Star Man Nebula since this site doesn't have that fragrance uploaded yet.***

I have not smelled Pure Malt, so I don't have that to compare from. However, just based on the scent itself, this is amazing! Huge fan of boozy notes. The notes I smell are the booze, the malt, some sweetness from that touch of vanilla, and some woods. Now, this is a first impression. Haven't had time to allow it to macerate yet, so I'll update in about a month. Overall, this stuff is amazing and doesn't cost much at them moment.

A wonderful fragrance, likely Mugler's best offering, and my experience with it has been a testimony to the wisdom of meeting a fragrance where it is at, not where you want it to be.

I purchased two bottles of this when it came out and never really cared for it, so it sat for years unsprayed in the closet. Over time I revisited it and it never really clicked: it was too fruity and not at all like the Scotches I've had, from which it was inspired. It was a lot brighter and sweeter (more clear) than some of the other Mugler's. If this was supposed to smell like a whiskey, it didn't work.

That was what i felt, however, until just a few weeks ago when I decided to give it another shot and just wore it as an A*Men fragrance with lowered expectations and was pleasantly blown away.

This is a rich and sweet fragrance, while at the same time balanced: deep and light. It has fruity high notes of apple and pear and citrus; deep vanilla, coffee, and amber; yet it is grounded by earthy tones from malt, patchouli, tobacco leaf, and cedar. Wear this underneath the clothing and enjoy your morning cup of coffee in the Fall air.

I would definitely recommend this for the Fall and Winter, semi-formal, date, and going out activities. Just about perfect.

Received this today via the Fragrance World version of 'Star Men Nebula'. Very cheap on Amazon - about $20 for 100 ml.

Right away I was hit by a familiar scent but I couldn't place it at first. I knew I had smelled it before. Then I realized it reminded me exactly of Bentley for Men Intense - almost to the T. The whiskey scent is super forward and throughout. I didn't really care for it as much with Bentley but with this I love it for some reason. Maybe more of the patchouli / earthy tones and less overly 'sweet' booziness. This also seems more refined and less cloying. I still have a decant left of Bentley and yep, I like Nebular a lot more.

To the person that said this is a youthful scent. LOL No effing way! This is 30+, whiskey neat, cigar in the other hand all day.

Really awesome scent; I can't stop sniffing it. And it lasts a good portion of the day. I'll put it on in the morning and get whiffs of it hours later at night. Can't believe the deal on this one. If you love the boozy type scents, get this one asap!

Dimmuburger

My all time favorite. Somehow smells both refined and sleazy all at once. I cannot describe how much I love this fragrance. I love it on myself, and I think I would totally love smelling it on a woman too. It's sweet, spicy, yet I do not get any hint of the namesake booze. What I do get is the familiar tar-rubber like all amen scents, and it counter balances the sweet notes in this bottle so freaking well. I continue hunting bottles of this down, despite already having 3 and likely never going to be able to finish them in my life. Shame this and the other amen flankers were discontinued. While not a direct dupe, I do get a lot of the similar character that I love in this from Rosendo Mateu #5. Especially the amber, vanilla, and rubber.

John C. Duboiz

The open is very unique. The notes are of baked fruits with cherries, vanilla, and chocolate dancing around in the open. Then in the middle you get the whiskey note. It sort of reminds me of a Jamaican fruit cake, but with whiskey instead of rum.
The dry down is surprisingly woody with a slight muskyness, almost powdery.
It certainly is quite a unique fragrance.
A boozy lovers dream!

I don't typically get compliments with this, but I always get asked if I've been drinking.
This is a great fragrance for a night out, especially if going to a bar or a venue where alcohol is served. Quite a youthful scent, but certainly can be worn by any age, including the ladies.
If you plan on wearing this to a first date, job interview, or work, make sure you're ok with people thinking you've had a few drinks not too long ago! You've been warned!

Now with all the fun part out of the way, let's face the elephant in the room. This fragrance is discontinued (no surprise, it's a Mugler). Prices are listed anywhere from 200-500 big ones. I'm told there was a time when this fragrance was sold at retail stores circling 100 bucks and at discounters it could be found as low as 35. I wasn't in the fragrance game at that time, but I've always been curious to try this one as it is FragCom legend! I managed to get a 10ml decant from a friend, and I consider myself very lucky!

For the hefty price this is going for these days, I honestly do not recommend blind buying. There are a lot of great boozy fragrances out there that I would consider over this one for the price. You can get an incredible niche fragrance at retail for 250, even less if you could find it at a discount. But not Pure Malt.

Pure Malt may have been a great value fragrance when it was still available, but due to discontinuation and overhyping, the prices found today are not justifiable.

Recently Fragrance World released a dupe called Star Men Nebula, and people rave about it as being very close to Pure Malt. I haven't tried that yet, but I do like Pure Malt enough to pull the trigger on the dupe. But I'm not willing to pay 250 or more for the real thing.

NorthernCaveMan

I couldn't agree more with @anapista.

For anyone missing this absolute class act of the late naughties, pickup Fragrance World Star Man Nebula. £25.00 in the UK, and it smells nearly identical.

If anything, Star Man Nebula needs it's own page here because it's that good.

anapista

Guys, I am wearing right now Fragrance World Star Man Nebula, which is a clone of Pure Malt and I am shocked how good this smell. Pure Malt is discontinued and a bottle right now cost around $380 while the clone cost $20. I could not be happier with my purchase, I put it on this morning around 6:00 am and it is still strong and very nice. My bottle is brand new, so I expect it to even improve after some time on the shelf. I would really, really recommend FW Star Man Nebula, it can be a blind buy because the scent is amazing.

aqsas

Very niche and beautiful. The overall scent is unique, awesome, and masculine. Wonderful in every way. Nuclear performance with great longevity. No doubt, it's classy, just downright smells good, and easily you'll get many compliments. The malt and whiskey scent is really manly. I made it as my signature fragrance.

No more words can describe how wonderful it is.

Fragrance world- Star Man Nebula--- Under $25. Smells 98% to this and is cheap cheap cheap- Not your normal abrasive clone, either.. I have 2 bottles.. Yum, Compliment getter..

Oh man... This beloved fragrance sits deeply into my heart. When I got into this hobby and started to collect fragrances this one was one of my first 10 perchased fragrances. I remember the price was stupidly cheap. What I think about this fragrance back then was... the scent was lovely.. the bottle was meh and the automizer was ohoooo. I didnt value this fragrance and I used it wildly.. I spray it on my hand and my pillowsheet when I'm home just to get to smell it cuz I thought it was cheap shit so I didnt care for it so much and I can grab it anytime. How ever......

A year ago the juice started to run out and it was like 35ml left of it and I start looking for a new backup bottle. At this point I couldnt find it anywhere on the retailer and it broke my heart when I came to think about how much I have wasted this juice just for nothing. *cry* I found out it was continued and here where I start to value this juice so much. Today I have like 25ml left of it and I dont even touch the atomizer at all. I could grab it sometimes just to look how beautiful the bottle and the color of the juice are. I am afraid and dont want it to run out so I just have this sitting on my collection waiting for a good occation to wear it wich I dont think its gonna happend because I have other options and I dont want to use it up lol. I also have a similar smell wich is CH men privee but its not as lovely as Pure Malt.

Even tho I have wasted it alot, I also have worn it alot aswell and this frag is one of a highly compliment getter for me. If someone have a bottle for sale please PM me and we can discuss a fairly price for both of us.

I will rate this IMHO
Scent: 15/10
Longevity: 6.5/10

A*Men Pure Malt Mugler

A*Men Pure Malt was created in 2009 in honour of traditional Scottish whiskey and its smoky, woody-spicy aromas. Result is a surprising composition which makes this fragrance elegant and sophisticated.

Such an addictive juice. So smooth, well balanced, sweet but not candy sweet, Boozy, palty, malty and Smoky, somewhat spicy, woody. Not many coffee noted scents are nice but this is an exception. It actually smells more chocolatey than coffee. I sorta get a sweetish single malt with Milo (a chocolate beverage malt drink that's available in some countries) kinda hybrid scent profile and it's so tasty and drinkable.

It's been discontinued this becomes pretty much a treasured juice for many.

monsieur.moustache

At once casual and sophisticated. A boozy mature man's fragrance..not one for the kids.

Very pleasant overall. This one's ideal for fall/winter.

1 word. Masterpiece. Such a shame this line isn’t in production anymore.

SimplDude

One of the most fascinating frag in my collection 🙌 and one of the best gourmand fragrances that I had put my nose on 👍

10/10 for this treasure 🏆

Bodog1986

So Good that's all I'm gonna say! If you haven't gotten your nose on this yet do so. Fruity, boozy, woody, pretty mass appealing, designer with niche like quality scent!

Whateverwhocares

Effervescent whiskey. Mildly fruity undertone. Woodsy, zesty musk. Manly and interesting. A lot of nuance if you’re looking for it. Very niche. Awesome.

gandrasta

This smells amazing. Nutty woody with boozy backbone through and through. Different from the rest of my perfume list. Performance above average. Hands down a class.

autumnrequiem

The weirdest thing that happened to me was getting a major, loud compliment while wearing this from a female friend of my wife (which by the way, was with her boyfriend)

Right in front of his face. I bet the dude wasn’t very amused.

DodgersLH714

Star Men Nebula, best clone (recently created) that gets oh so close to this discontinued gem! Get it on the cheap you won't be sorry!

r0gerg

Stunning perfume. Whisky and sweet ripe fruits, slightly sour and fresh.
In the drydrown smells like a lighter version of A*men. Good performance 7+ hours on skin.
8/10.

hclivess

No words can describe how good this is

cwavah

Was expecting much more heaviness on whiskey and barley .... Its a pass for me

KadenKep

A classic. Have had this in the collection for years (bought it back when it was all the hype). While the hype has since died down, it remains one of my favorite in the collection. Dark, fruity, patchouli, whiskey.

Jezza The Champ

I bought this about 3 years ago. It was one of my only blind buys and it was getting such great praise, and I didn’t have anything else like it that I chose to but it. It ended up being one of the worst blind buys. It smells like a weird plastic to me. I have only worn it a few times to see if my appreciation for it has changed but it hasn’t yet.

FrgaranceMadMan

This was the first fragrance that captivated me and brought me fully into the fragrance game. I used to buy generic stuff then purchased this, it blew me away! I love boozy fragrances, I paid £38.50 for this, ratio price against quality and scent 10/10. It's my favourite Mugler scent.

Scent 10/10
Sillage 7/10
Projection 7/10
Longevity 8/10
Versatilitly 7/10
Packaging/bottle 10/10 (Iconic)
Value 10/10 (It's a favourite of mine)

Scent: Sweet, fruity and boozy. One word to describe this scent has to be ALLURING.

Seasons to wear: Autumn & Winter. Spring nights when cool.

solobinoy2k

Boozy sweet with a little fizziness. All weather, any occasion approved. Very original and now discontinued.

I have a 100ml available if anyone in the states is interested. (GONE)

It_Stings_The_Nostrils

I remember at the time when the hype around this fragrance was insane, everyone was trying to get their nose on it. This experience was my first lesson in never blind buying a frag based on other’s description.
To my nose, the opening is extremely sweet and feminine with caramel/vanilla and an alcoholic boozy touch.
I don’t get any type of a fruit smell and
I keep using “feminine” as a reference but it’s just my opinion. For me, It changes only slightly towards the dry down with some earthy tones from the patchouli but other than that it remains linear.
A nice scent, but personally, it’s better suited for the ladies.

mo7med.nasr

Crazy good!

3NO7

Such a wonderful frag. So sad it was discontinued.

Thankfully, I still have 3/4 of my bottle.

Sweet, fruity, fresh with a hint of whiskey and so nicely blended.

I think it was built by a lovable, fun, mad scientist type drunk.

I can imagine the perfumer laughing to himself while making this and having a blast while doing it.

It seems somehow thrown together, but in the best possible way where it just ended up turning out great!

Top 10 for sure!

Italian_ro

So unlike others, I actually went in reverse with the Mugler fragrances - I owned Insurrection 2 first since it was a 95% clone at $35. Then I started getting the Mugler's. I can honestly say now that I own some of the Mugler's, Insurrection 2 is absolutely a clone. I don't yet have Pure Havane which I2 is supposedly the clone of, but it certainly smells very close to my Pure Malt. If you're on the fence, save your money and buy Insurrection 2 because is the same thing without the price gouge. That will free up some money to buy a few others. Don't get me wrong, I love this, and enjoy it, I am just glad I2 came in and filled the gap that the douches at Mugler left. I mean really, who creates these amazing fragrances, then discontinues them and walks away just as they are becoming beloved by all? That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard of.

aqua_de_la_vita

I've kept A*Men Pure Malt tucked away, I'm finally giving my take on this juice. I agree with those who really appreciate the A*Men collection. I own Havana, leather/cuir, B*Man and wood. I never thought that all of these would be discontinued. I hope L'Oreal decides to bring them back with the same quality and level that's in this collection.
Now about Pure Malt..as soon as I spray it on my wrist I pickup a real sweet/bitter boozy vib from the Malt/peat and the whiskey. I almost feel like having some whiskey while I enjoy the cologne.
After it settles the bitter vib slowly
transitions towards the vanilla, orange and some woods note continuing to have that magical aroma.
I don't know why but I don't pickup any fruity notes. It could be that there's so many levels of this juice working together my nose is overwhelmed, it's probably in one of many levels. I do pickup a hint of warmth either from musk or amber.
Longevity and Sillage is excellent on my skin..lasting at least 6hrs at arms length away.
As I mentioned earlier, I really hope that L'Oreal brings the whole collection back. Excellent fall/winter cologne , I would prefer to use it during the later part of the day and not during the daytime. 9/10

@GibFragrance93 I tried to buy from that website, (Mengotti couture)
Its a Fraud bro, I ordered it and shortly after they said they cannot ship it and cancelled the order and no refund was made either, Sent two emails and no response. so stay away I guess.

Something about this perfume feels so aldehydic ye t rich and warm !! Feels like a fruity whisky coctel

Rob321x

I love the amen line, but this one is the king of them all. It is so F’ing good! I wish I had 10 bottles of this stuff. While people may overuse the word masterpiece, this one is truly masterpiece and is one of the best fragrances I have ever had the pleasure to smell.

JKeto

Sickly sweet. I couldn’t stand smelling this for long. I can see why people who like sweet fragrances love this.

ScentManJojo

I can not believe I have yet to review this fragrance on this site... This is an awesome scent from the house of Mugler. The juice is in the vein of the original AMen of course with a positive variation towards a boozy /patchouli scent and not so much a gourmand chocolate or coffee scent. This is in the fall/winter category IMO with nice longevity (7+ hours 2 sprays) and projection. I would say that pricing is a little out of hand for this juice currently due to discontinuation... I would get a sample if possible before spending serious money on this... Enjoy!

"I Love Scotch. Scotchy, Scotch, Scotch." - Ron Burgundy

This fragrance is incredible. It captures the woody, smoky, peaty, & malty notes you get from a good Scotch whiskey perfectly. If you took a glass with the dried sticky residue of a Scotch finished just the night before & then threw a freshly split vanilla bean into that cup, the aroma would be similar to Pure Malt. The fruity opening was nice, but for me, it really begins to shine once that fades. Such an interesting & complex blend. This is definitely a cold weather wear. You might could get away with wearing it during hotter weather as long as you apply very lightly & mostly remain indoors. But it will excel in fall/winter. Performance was decent for me aswell. Got about 4 hours of strong projection that settled down to a more intimate level for another 4-6 hours after that. Easily one of the best quality designer fragrances out there in my opinion. It is such a shame that this was discontinued... If you love good fragrances & the smell of scotch, you must experience this.

Arber Cami

The first spray smells like the original A* Men, you get a distinctive Cardamom/warm amber smell. Dry down is boozy, sweet fruits and malt whipping through the middle. Really unique and complex fragrance.

Jonathanelsher3

Ideal cologne for a romantic evening! This alters everything. This fragrance is quite elegant. The main drawback is that it is too elegant to be used in a casual setting. The upside is that you can apply it to any formal setting. Malt and fruity aromas are mixed together. That makes it tasty and alcoholic. Despite the scent notes, you don't have an alcoholic odor. With the massive silage and projection, dry down is glowing brighter than ever and the durability is unending. Unless you don't like scents that are somewhat gourmet, you need this.

lair77

I'm in love with the fruity, boozy, sweet opening. It's one of my favorite openings of all time. It's a unique fragrance and my favorite of the A*Men line. But then the drydown, it smells like patchouli and a bit of the A*Men drydown. The drydown smells like a cardboard box in the rain.

I keep a decant of this so I can smell the cap, and occasionally spray it on paper, though I don't wear this much.

NOSEYBODY

Pure Malt is a very Designer idea of Whiskey. Meaning it lacks the nuance of Fermentation that gives it the feeling of an actual Whiskey note.

What I get from its opening of Fruity Notes, Orange, Malt, & Whiskey is a designer idea of Jameson Orange Whiskey with Coffee undertones that smell as if its blended with Caramel & poured over a soft Black Synthetic Leather.

As the fragrance evolves the composition begins to reek of Synthetics to a point where I can pick up on a nuance that gives the impression of the rubberized plastic material the bottle is made of.

Now while my review of Pure Malt seems less than favorable it in no way means that I dislike this fragrance. Its very good for a designer Whiskey release & its very mass appealing compared to Niche Whiskey Fragrances which smell as if you've been binge drinking.

I personally enjoy the authentic take on Whiskey that Niche perfumery offers. However, I do like Pure Malt. But if it had just a tad bit of fermentation to its Whiskey Note, even with its highly synthetic character I would like it even more.

Grabbed one of the first 2009 batches off of ebay. Been testing 1 spray for the past hour and the projection is massive in comparison.

subtlesotl420

Just tested this at work (2017 batch) 10+ hours on skin (can still smell 3"+ wafts,) and I was taking latex gloves on and off. Would love to see what the real OG batches smell like :}

Dottorissimo

Fruity yummy whiskey with some rubbery undertone, very interesting and unique fragrance. Very hard to find nowadays. Performs very good. It reminds me of wonderfull scottish foggy country with ancient castles and green carpet or red heath covered rolling hills...

hokieguy95

Upon receiving a sample of this, I found that this was one of the most unique and best smelling designer fragrances I have sampled. Had to have a bottle and found it was sadly discontinued. I was able to locate and affordable bottle and jumped on it. This is the type of balanced sweetness that is a manly gourmand I find easy to wear. Balanced with earthy notes and sweetness of whiskey and fruits. This is not candied sugary fruit. This is dark fruits. Sweetness is not overly cloying and I cannot fathom why this was ever discontinued. Sadly if there is a weakness, it is a less than stellar performance. It keeps it from being a complete masterpiece. I want to keep this in my collection and I absolutely love this scent. It is one of my absolute favorite scents.

Scent 10/10;
Performance 5/10
Price: Discontinued so 4/10

Rob321x

By far the best out of the a men line. Absolute masterpiece! The malt and fruity notes omg just everything about this fragrance is amazing. 10/10

saponista

Have a decant so not sure of the vintage ... I wanted to love this, as it's delicious on a guy friend and I wear "men's" frags all the time, but on me the patch-coffee-peat goes very dark, earthy, and awry.

If you're in the EU Mengotti has this on sale for a ridiculously low price.

Jbicanic89

A nice smooth but sweet boozy fragrance. This is my favourite flanked of the original. I've owned pure Havane and still own Pure Tonka, both of which I equally enjoy, but Pure Malt just has this vibe about it that always get me compliments.

Outaroad

To be honest, i find this very overrated. The scent is not horrible but it is not as mass appealing as some comments would lead you to believe. I purchased this as a blind buy based off fragrance review recommendations and now i find that i barley even reach for it.
In my opinion I find Pure Havane and Pure Tonka way better ( Scent wise). In terms of Performance, Pure Tonka is the best followed by Pure Malt.

Bigmike650

If anyone has a bottle of this that’s at least 75% full and is willing to swap for one of my fragrances go ahead and message me and we can negotiate a deal 👍🏽

LarryCr

To me it gives me this slight sweaty rubbery vibe. But it still smells very sweet and boozy which I do love. Lasts me around 8hrs on skin.

*loves_shoes*

Very traditionally masculine aromatic fragrance.
I couldn’t really pull this off!
The opening is more citrusy and patchouli on my skin than the notes and accords would have led me to believe. It’s actually quite fresh and summery, not as rich and boozy and deep as a lot of the more modern niche offerings.
As it dries it gets warmer and a bit spicy, but still has that traditional male fragrance smell.
I really enjoy smelling this on my boyfriend.

Jake2022

I have an almost entirely full bottle of this that I would be willing to trade. I got it when it was really hyped up around 2013 and wasn't really into the scent so never used it. It's good just not for me.

Rahul12

The opening of Pure Malt really sets the stage. This is a a rich and enticing fragrance. It kind of reminds me of B*Men also by Thierry Mugler but way better with less spice and an enjoyable fruitiness. Pure Malt feature a boozy type of aroma, It's beautiful, like a fine whiskey. There is a warm sweetness in the same vein as Pure Havane but with alcohol in lieu of tobacco. The start features the blend of fruits, vanilla, whiskey, and a bit of the patchouli. The patchouli comes through to give it a warm bakery feeling, like it does in so many women’s perfumes. However here, it just helps to shape the alcoholic sweetness.
As the scent wears on, I feel that it becomes even better than the opening act. The berry-like fruits begin to fully emerge and give the cologne a distinctive feel. Nonetheless, they are only playing a supporting role at this stage. However, Pure Malt never relinquishes its very masculine energy or fall into a trap of being too ambiguous. I found myself constantly trying to get a whiff of this lovely gourmand scent throughout the night that I was wearing it. It was just enjoyable and pleasant to wear.
Finally, the latter stages are smooth, creamy, warm, woody, with its underlying sweetness still kicking around. Vanilla, tonka bean, and vague hints of coffee are swirling around a base of cedar and malt.
The coffee bean adds a nice touch, as you can only pick up its familiar scent, at certain times during the wear. Pure Malt is just unique and plain delicious to the senses.
Projection wise, Pure Malt is fairly strong, but not crazy so. You’ll notice that it’s there and so will other people around you but it shouldn’t choke anyone out unless you went overboard.
I actually got good longevity with this, it’s hard to remember the details of when I applied and when it faded last night but I’d say 6-8 hours or thereabouts.
Overall, I think it’s great but I don’t think it’d be for everyone. It can be quite pricey, it is limited by the climate you live in, not for those who don’t like the smell of malt (obviously), etc.
On the other hand, this is a very well done entry from Thierry Mugler and is at least worth a try for a lot of guys.
The whole thing is warm, sweet, and gourmand. Angel Men Pure Malt is an experience all its own and probably one of the best colognes on the market. It’s application is niche, but it does things so utterly well, that I want to spray it on more and more. I doubt it’ll be what you’re looking for in a daily wear, but as a secondary option you break out on occasion.

Scentsibilities

One of the greatest fragrance creations ever boozy chocolately fruity but masculine a real bad boy scent.I can see a niche company copying this and releasing in a few years as this is discounted then acting like they made something novel,Mugler in its heyday was on par with any niche brand. The longevity projection and creativity of their scents was so revolutionary seriously R.I.P to Mr Mugler.

Zizi518

Pure Malt is truly a masterpiece. I understood all the hype as soon as I tried it for the first time and 7 years later I’m still addicted and own 2 bottles now (2014 and 2018 versions). Easily the best flanker in the A*Men line.

Pure Malt opens with a rich, sweet, cozy, powerful, boozy accord. It’s intense but pleasant; it’s playful yet sophisticated. Imagine being well dressed, eating desserts and drinking beer and whiskey at a fancy brewery, laughing and having a good time with your friends around holiday season, that’s what Pure Malt smells like. The sweetness here is a mixture of burnt caramel, dried fruits, honey, and of course malt. I learned from youtuber Redolessence that this fragrance contains ethyl maltol, which is responsible for creating this malt + caramel feel. The sweetness is slightly synthetic but it smells so delicious I don’t really care. The original A*Men DNA is still present but the harshness and patchouli are toned down quite significantly.

For me this is a 10/10 truly intoxicating scent. Performance is beast mode as well. It’s a disgrace that this gem is discontinued. I might have to stock up on more back up bottles before the supply becomes more scarce.

Just picked up a used bottle from a private seller. The smell is intoxicating.... having this and pure havane I sprayed both to compare, they are slightly similar but different. I prefer the tobacco in havane but both are great smelling fragrances.

IamdrinkingBeer

Fruity, somewhat boozy scent. Perfect for night outs, parties, or just chilling at home. I see this as one of those "essential", or just iconic night-time designer scents for guys. But...for me at least, this is a little too much, i love my scents a little more subtle. Even tho Pure Malt and me don't perfectly align, i still recognize the greatness of it. Decant worthy, not bottle worthy, cause i just don't see myself wearing this that often. An essential try for any (younger at least) guy, 8/10.

TonyG

Dunno about this.....unsure if I got a bad batch but I can't stand this smell......smells like a very musky sweaty homeless guy with stale whisky breathe who hasn't bathed in a month. Definitely a no from me.....

fanzypants

Happy New Year! Reserved this frag for tonight as I knew I wouldn't be partying.

On a night in, this has great projection. The scent is smooth, rich and well balanced. The opening is beautiful and recalls the original A*men but is more welcoming, fresh and less intense. It's very casual, romantic and does not shout, so it'll get use on date nights for sure.

The whisky in this is so well blended and gentle as compared to newer fragrances from designers such as Halloween (X) and Baldessarini (Ambre Oud) and more on a level of Carolina Herrera (CH Men Prive). While the patchouli, musk and cedar maintain a traditional masculine component, the smoothness from the vanilla and amber allow this to be pretty unisex. In comparison to others in my collection, this reminds me of a better blended, more pleasing Pure Black (by Mandarina Duck).

This is an amazing scent, and a huge improvement over the original, for me. It may even be one of my top ten favourites.

Best wishes for a healthy and safe 2022.

Thierry Mugler 2016 batch: I had been wanting this bottle since I discovered the world of fragrance. This and pure havane as they seemed to be the most respected. To my surprise pure malt is super sweet and malty. The sweetness isn’t feminine but it can be cloying. This batch definitely doesn’t lack power. 3 “good” sprays max iykyk

TheSuperSniffer

Ah, Pure Malt. I've had this bottle for a while, having finally tracked it down from a private seller. Early reformulated "Mugler" version. *Edit: I've since found out, via entirely reputable sources, that most of the A*Men line, Pure Malt included, was never reformulated. Thierry Mugler, Mugler, even Creation - all the same juice.*

This one was on my radar for a while. I remember expecting a dark, boozy, whiskey bomb of a scent, and being shocked how...not, it was. Nevertheless, even today, as my tastes adhere heavily towards the niche and indie world of natural perfumery, Pure Malt remains one of my favorite designers.

It's insanely fruity. Not in a Skittles way, but the combination of patchouli, fruity notes, and whatever "whiskey" accord is here, lend themself to a really unique take on "fruity".

The patchouli is noticeable. It's a clean patchouli, and it's more defined when smelling up close. In the air, the patchouli is more of those "fizzy pop" incense stick patchoulies. The fruitiness trends towards somewhat of an orange creamsicle note, and there's definitely a vanillic base that plays into that. I get somewhat of a rubbery note - not off- putting, but a dense, sweet, clean rubber. As it settles, Pure Malt focuses much more on notes of praline, caramel, and butterscotch. A sweet, candied, almost creamy nuttiness. Maybe this is the "malt" ingredients. Looking at it that way, ome cam draw similarities to a sweet Speyside single malt.

It isn't particularly natural smelling, and it's an odd duck for sure, but it's undeniably unique. A tad youthful, but not immature. Playful. This could work well in a club setting, just as much as an upscale gala. Performance is ridiculous. It's loud, projection is far reaching, and longevity is no slouch. It doesn't take much to get the job done. Paired with its quirky, almost 90's vibe, and unique profile, this one is sure to get noticed. Ive been stopped several times wearing this one, by both women and men.

Yes, it's discontinued, hard to sample, and the price is going up. No, it won't be for everyone, and I think there's a lot of misunderstanding (due to the name) of what this smells like. At $100 or less, I think this is a worthy addition to any collection, and other than Pure Havane (which is still quite different), I honestly can't think of anything else that smells even remotely similar to this, and for that, I think this deserves a spot in the hall of fame.

I adore this one, and it's absolutely worth sampling - if you can.

Tldr: Smells like a quirky gay pride parade - fruity, unique, easy to love, and possesses a very individual DNA. Loud, youthful, fruity, but not immature. Very sexy, flamboyant, sweet, and edible. Not dark, dense, and boozy. Can easily wear in the warmer months, clubbing, or dressed (somewhat) up. 10/10. Atomizer: 1/10

JmThms

This scent profile is really nice. Probably better than Pure Havane which I also have just gotten and test worn once, but haven't compared head to head. However, the scent really pulled back on projection after the first hour. Not sure yet on the longevity, but one thing for sure is performance of this is not "beast mode" in anyway. 11 sprays on skin and clothes. My idea of longevity is that I will get unsolicited whafts periodically several hours after application, which simply radiate up from the three sprays on the front of my shirt 6 inches below my nose. Without having to go hunt it by sticking my nose directly on the area of application. I don't care to much about projection, if projection means someone else will smell it 5 or 10 feet away. My threshold for good performance are the periodic natural whafts up to MY nose for a long time. If that doesn't happen, then even longevity is deemed poor. Doesn't seem like this will quite live up to that standard.

jturner333

What a truly fantastic fragrance!!! To me, it smells like a bowl of fruity pebbles in the opening. Doesn't quite evolve much beyond that however but that's just fine to me. Super sweet/fruity and interesting throughout regardless. Wish it wasn't so hard to find right now though. I got lucky (and I mean LUCKY) and found a 3.4oz bottle on a 3rd party site. The longevity is just alright with it however - I find myself having to reapply every 3hrs or so in order to continue smelling it.

Dutchnose

It smells amazing, but the performance is totally shit. 1-2h. It should be illegal to sell scents that performe shit. Paid full price to get it. In it’s early days it performed much better.

Nuhgwin

Heard it became discontinued. Bought 2 more bottles from local connoisseurs who were letting go of their bottles for cheap. I’m talking less than $50 cheap. This scent will forever be a staple in my winter fragrance choices.

Eleroy

Got a bottle of this for a reasonable price, still has "Thierry Mugler" on it even. It's a more flat, synthetic yet stronger version of Jazz Club by Maison Margiela. It's ok, but I am not sure I like it enough to keep it.

kshane73

KrisTr either your expectations were off or you got a bad bottle. It's not a heavy dark fragrance, not sure where you got that idea from. It's a boozy sweet fragrance.

KrisTr

This on my skin is straight up fruit candy. I still enjoy it but where's the boozy, where's the "rick, dark and mysterious". To me, it's very bright, playful, sweet and fruity like a young boy running around eating fruit candy type of vibe. Would be nice for daytime, casual situation when it's not hot outside. Definitely not a night time winter for me. It's not heavy and dark enough. Actually there's nothing heavy and dark that I can smell. IDK man, kinda disappointed from what I expected, can it be that different from skin to skin? Did i get scammed? Did it get reformulated? What's going on?

Matt Hooper

Mugler will burn in the seventh hell for discontinuing this. FELLOW FRAGRANCE APPRECIATORS, WE MUST BOYCOTT THEM UNTIL IT RETURNS!!!

kameron

The entire line has been discontinued for good since spring 2021! Grab it as long as you can find it! Also Havane and the old beautiful metal editions!!

Saltychipdust

I’m not much of a drinker so I couldn’t tell if this smelled like Scottish or Canadian whiskey. I can say the scent is addictive. It’ll be a sad day when I run through my bottle as this gem has been axed. The original A-Men is still made but this one and Pure Havane are dead, just goes to show someone dropped the ball at cooperate and they don’t have a pulse on the industry. I get moderate performance and projection but really enjoy it. Does anyone else get butterscotch aroma?

dazza67

I get red bull + boozinees (whisky) held together with smooth silky chocolate. masterpiece

JayDillen

Delicious, seductive, delectable. This is a banger. Good in every way. Beast performance and longevity, classy, just downright smells good, and women will love you. Sadly they are discontinuing it as l'oreal bought out Mugler. True tragedy as the A*men line is awesome.

This is a date night scent or just a plain seduction scent hands down. I like it enough to wear around the house, but this is purely for the ladies. It is aptly named as it smells like, well malt. A dark burnt incredibly sweet malt chocolate manly gourmand with a large dose of booziness. Very well done. My second favorite of the line behind kryptomint.

The only major drawback is it will get a little musty on your shelf after a year or two, especially in hot weather.

The other minor drawback is it is a very classy seductive scent so you would have to dress up somewhat to pull it off. Jeans and a t-shirt won't do it justice. Also it's not really a young guy's scent imo. Guys over 30 is what this is made for. And guys in a nice dress shirt at least. Although I would say if a young guy wore it to say prom he would kill.

It smells good tbh
but it's too sweet and cloying for me
not mature it's more youthful than the notes list could let you think
i dont smell no whisky
maybe a little bit of boozyness during the 30min in the opening
it's very fruity (candy like fruity)
the drydown is coffee and vanilla with the fruity nuances
performance ok sillage ok

WGG

You need to forgive the terrible sprayer on these terrible bottles. A gorgeous, rich, fruity, boozy ('whisky' surely?) men's perfume for colder climes or close encounters where your date appreciates the indulgence. Given the nuclear opening, performance surpisingly falls away somewhat, expect to respray for a full nights experience of this wonderful scent.
4.5/5

The Wolf

I think I smelled this a long time ago but I could not recall the smell.
I smelled this blind to try do decipher the notes. Scotch. Not cheap whiskey but good Scotch and malt.
And amber. Not much coffee but it's blended well. Boozy but nowhere near something like angels share by kilian which is heavy booze.

I layered this with Nishane Sultan Vetiver to try to reproduce Laphroig Scotch vibe since SV has lots of anise. Did not work out well 😄.

I think this is better than regular amen.
This has a vibe of PDM Herod but sweeter. Very warm vibe. Would be perfect for a cold night and out on the town.
I give this an 7/10. It's a bit sweet and longevity is so so I think unless I go nose blind to it.

RisingChaos

Creamy, fruity orange opening that dries down to vanilla-amber and eventually woody accords. Creamsicle vibes, and I feel the orange gives it more versatility than the consensus. Smells nice, but the performance leaves much to be desired on my skin: <2hr projection, 4-5hr longevity.

Yance

how to chek batch code on the bottle ... anyone can help me?

AlaskanAngel

Ugh, super disappointed! Thought I would enjoy the whiskey note as I love Kilian's Single Malt. Unfortunately, with this fragrance all I get is patchouli and earthy musk, no malt/whiskey or any sweetness to my nose. Tried it out on both my skin and a few spritses on friends but the patchouli is just too strong. This is the same problem I have with Muglar Angel and many other sweet fragrances featuring patchouli.

Thierry Mugler Angel Men (Pure Malt)

Whiskey In The Jar

Scotch Whiskey carved in legendary Angel Men classic version.
Great value for such performance.
Definetely a perfume for mature old school men.
It is both classical and classy.
Not recommended for hot summer days.
Only negative thing is about this perfum is its cheap rubber covered bottle.

I wonder if anyone else get this...

I would describe this fragrance as a sherbert explosion combined with the scent you would get when opening a cardboard box. It seems as though the scent is trying to get "into the door" more than it is trying to open it up.
I actually find the booziness delightful, and I also get some chocolate (not cacao) as well. In terms of longevity, it does "well" in the heat and also needs a lot of air to unfold. I really would recommend trying it out during a mild, sunny day, as it needs both air and heat to unfold.
Also, the infamous A*men series sprayer really does feel like I'm being spat on and this obviously doesn't help my overall impression.
I would say, however, that this fragrance has done an exemplary job in being fruity without violating your nose in the opening. This is bergamot done right.

Best and Better ;)

this is a magical scent... i love it

$¢enta$ti¢

This fragrance is phenomenal and I pulled about 5 compliments in one day and the ladies kept saying I smell “yummy” Lmao when I first wore this out at night it was slightly cold and rainy and the opening wasn’t all that however when this stuff settles this is dangerous! 🤐 a random woman who was in her mid 20’s with her boyfriend switched seats just to get closer to this smell while I was at a Knicks game few days ago. She definitely did that on purpose because her man was not wearing any fragrance I think.

ripetty.1

A very sexy, fruity Autumn/ Winter fragrance with decent performance ( 2019 Batch)... One of my favorites for colder weather...

6opar

A woodier interpretation of A*Men with whiskey on top and sweetened cedar below. While not my favourite A*men doppelgänger, it's still far better than the malfunctioning U*Men replicant that Mugler recklessly unleashed upon the world in 2019.

HorlicksB4Bed

Mugler has stated the A*men Pure line has been discontinued, absolute DISGRACE!!
Shame on L'Oréal :(
Get them while you can, if you can find them!!

club35bucuk

Its fragrance is unique. Not suitable for blind buying. I liked it very much. Suitable for winter nights

NewFragCity

Smells Good

Sweet, Caramel, Boozy, and a little bit candyish.

But I feel like something is missing, the kinda linear, and by the time you reach the dry down it's just a fading caramel scent with booze.

Also, performance is bad

Good for colder weather obviously

Definitely a night time scent imo

Marcjohn86

YES!!!... It was a LOOOONG time where I did not have this, but kept it on my radar, just kind of thinking that it was gonna be a fragrance that I'd really like, or even love, but I somehow managed to underestimate just how fucking good this stuff is you guys. I have a Thierry Mugler bottle, I haven't checked the batch code or anything, but it's fantastic. This is the kind of fragrance that when you smell it it immediately just improves your mood because it smells so good. Of course, if you don't like this fragrance, you're not only not going to like it but you're going to fucking hate it because of how obnoxiously loud it is. It opens up strong, fruity, boozy, and with an underlying A*Men signature DNA of patchouli, coffee, etc. All of the notes of the original are present, they're just dialed back ever so slightly to make way for the boozy and candied fruits notes that are most dominant here. As someone who absolutely loves A*Men, and also fruity/boozy sweet masculine fragrances, this is such a home run and I don't know why I didn't get it sooner because it really was a "blue chip" fragrance for me. I imagine Pure Havane will be a similar experience.

Anyways, as I've described the fragrance, I don't know if I've emphasized enough how well this performs. It's very loud, it projects with the heaviest of projectors I have in my collection, and lasts just as long as well. Perhaps some of my parfum extraits are a bit stronger but not by much. With that said, this one may be too much for office wear or formal wear. If you're going to a casual get together with friends at a bar though, or a club, my god you will be the best smelling guy there. I think this works best in the winter and fall, and at night, but fuck all that wear it when you want. Here in Minnesota you can easily get away with it in the spring and even summer nights, but you do you. It is very masculine, no unisex stuff going on here but ladies if you wanna wear it, go for it. I encourage that shit, I think fundamentalism in fragrances is silly and if you want to wear something masculine you should and the same is true of men who want to wear feminine leaning fragrances. Just go for it if it's in your heart to do so.

To cap it off here, this one is beautiful and I recommend it to anybody. Older, young, whatever, this is a fragrance for everybody if you're comfortable with what I've described above. I give it an easy A+.

Mr fragance27

Phenomenal scent, it reminds me at first spray to animale animale which is a classic of all times and in the drydown to sweet tobacco spririts 18.21 modern scent that is delicious, if you like these two fragances u definitely gonna enjoy pure malt, a must have in any collection 🙌🙌

yannakm

Love at first sniff. I'm not very far in my fragrance journey, but it's currently one of the fragrance I appreciate the most. Got a decant and can say this one is definitely in my want list. EDIT : I got a full bottle, but I stopped using it as it burns on my skin. Great scent, but very bad performance.

Splashyminion

My Second most complimented fragrance ever. I wish it wasn't discountinued.
Doesn't smell like whiskey at all but malt-like malt grain. Intial opening is fruity with a very slight hint of coffee. Delicious. Performance is average on my skin and doesn't project at all. Hard to find scent as it is discontinued. I think it would go great in winter. Very impressive

jarno1208

I like it. Very masculine scent. This has this rich boozy quality. Dark and mysterious.

Ksj_

Beautiful scent. Full bottle worthy. I can't wait to add this to the collection. 8/10

Not sure this is worth picking up? I LOVE scotch but I already own Bentley Man Intense and although I love it, I rarely wear it. How does this compare and is it worth having both? Thoughts?

piyux

Thierry Mugler Pure Malt EDT opens with a moderate projection of boozy, sweet, citrus, and coffee notes. The opening is bold, aromatic, unique, delectable, and intense. The citrus, fruity, whiskey, and coffee are the opening noticeable notes. The fruity note comes up as a fruity candy sweet note as opposed to natural fruits. The malt and whiskey are prominent, and further grow as the fragrance dries down, their alcoholic, and boozy nature give the fragrance a unique style, bold, and casual. The bergamot and orange add a sharp, citrusy sweet note but are short-lived, both, but particularly the bergamot, start dissipating soon after the fragrance is applied. The coffee is also noticeable, a blond and delectable touch that contributes mostly as a projecting accord. As the fragrance moves towards its dry down, the amber, musk, and vanilla start developing, adding their sweet notes and making the fragrance feel dry; simultaneously, the patchouli, musk, and cedar develop as support notes adding a light green, musky and fresh woody touch. The musk is inoffensive, it just improves the sharpness and projection of the fragrance. The fragrance has a few but noticeable opening to dry down changes, the opening is fresh, citrusy, boozy, fruity sweet, moist, and with a noticeable coffee note. As time passes, the amber and vanilla turn the fragrance dry and very projecting. The last noticeable change has to do with the initial projection which takes a step up to strong. Once Thierry Mugler A*Men Pure Malt EDT has reached its full dry-down, it can be summarized as a strong projection, sweet vanilla, amber, boozy, malt, whiskey, and coffee fragrance with and green and musky accords. The fragrance feels ambery, bold, boozy, candy-sweet, casual, comforting, delectable, dense, delicious, dry, exotic, expensive, fruity, gourmand, high-quality, imposing, inviting, long-lasting, masculine, modern, natural, nicely-blended, nocturnal, persistent, playful, resinous, rich, seductive, sweet, warm, wild, and very pleasant.

Very very malty. It's a strange scent, the malt is extremely realistic, it doesn't have the chalky profile of a malted milkshake, more like legitimate fermented malt. It has a strange yeasty/fermented sweetness to it. Smells like the inside of a grain silo. The malt dries off thru the mid, and it becomes a pleasant warm and boozy skin scent. I appreciate it because it's very unique, but I would not say it's is a mass appealing scent, particularly if you're trying to get attention from the ladies. Leans a bit mature, bit not too strong, and could be worn in summer, although anything above 80F would probably get cloying and over-accentuate the yeasty aspect. I would definitely say test first, 7/10 overall.

Quy

Character: Opens with warm fruity amber. Notes of amber, whiskey, vanilla, orange, sugar, and malt. Fairly sweet scent.

Performance: Medium intensity. 6-8hr longevity. 1-2 foot sillage.

Notes: I like it, but I'm not in love with it. It's reminiscent of bakery smell, but it has a characteristic boozy malt and amber that pulls it slightly more towards whiskey. I don't get enough wood, spice, or peat to really seal it as a great whiskey scent. It's more of an old-fashioned with extra sugar. It works well as a cozy evening scent, particularly in fall or winter. 7/10.

Just got some for my birthday (asked for it.)
It has a wonderful, wonderful opening that lasts for around 10-15 minutes on my skin. The fruity, orange, bergamot thing is not only refreshing, it has a richness to it and that Angel DNA shows up almost immediately. As it dries down, the notes in the middle appear. They are in there but they are subtle.
It does smell good though...very masculine too.
The whiskey accord is there, but fairly tame. After about 20 minutes I can detect the peat in there. It’s odd but somehow it works.
As it continues to dry down completely, I’m still getting the A* Men pedigree and it’s nice.
I can see why folks complain about potency longevity and so on. It definitely suffers a bit in the reformulation. Don’t be afraid to hit the sprayer enthusiastically.
I recommend a minimum of 6-8 sprays, but only in colder conditions.
Overall, I’m happy with it and will use it frequently in my rotation. I’m actually eager to try it in warm weather based on some experiences I’ve read on here.
It seems to be in short supply and not available in the discount stores anymore.

Addendum: It’s almost been a year. This is one of the best frags I own and I own about 50 or so. Love this stuff! My daughter paid $80 for it last December.
The lowest price I’ve seen it is $130. Is it worth that? Hmmmm….
I also re-evaluated my ratings upward.

Pure Malt is nice. It projects moderately for the first two or so hours and then its a skin scent until it fades away between five and eight hours later. I find it opens with the fruity notes (with orange most obvious, but no bergamot that I could smell) as well as whiffs of coffee and patchouli, plus amber, musk, vanilla, cedar and malt. I don't get any peat or whiskey which is a shame because that's what I was looking for when I bought it! If I were to buy a second bottle it would simply be to have it as something different from most of the rest of my wardrobe, as an occasional change of pace, knowing that the bottle would likely last for seven or eight years, maybe even more.

The heart and the base of this are much better than the top notes. It would have been nice to have less of that opening and more of the business end of it.

mancay666

LOVE at first sniff! this is my type! woody fruity perfume never disappoints me.
whiskey, fruity notes hits me hard yet calm at the top notes. the dry down become sexy.
it is ok wearing on a hot day.

i only HATE the PERFORMANCE.
the projection is moderate to intimate. hate the longevity. really bad for this type of perfume. i have to spray extra, flooding my cloth, arms and my neck for the best projection and longevity i guess. like 6 to 8.
but after all, i hope Mugler never discontinue this.

BTMDDN

This smells so freaking good!
Bought it from the airport duty free
Smells like Milo (the chocolate drink) to me at times. Which is great cus i love milo.
Doesn't last long though and it's not loud so i think you gotta be really close to someone to smell it.
Mind you that I'm from a hot & humid country so i guess maybe that's why it's not performing as good?
Once somebody told me that i smelled like traditional medicine. Lol I get where he was comin from though. but this is my favorite from the house of mugler so far.
The only complaint i got is that the sprayer is terrible.

mapache

I am very late to the game on this one !!
Wow....why did I wait so long to get/sniff this...???!!!
LOVE at first sniff !!
This has the A*Men dna present....but the "added" or "changed" notes in this is fab !!
The only con on this one is that I have a "newer" formulation....that is not as long-lasting as the OG version.
I compared my bottle with my friends original bottle.
Still....this is a LOVE..

dawgmangatorraper

Wow- I really love this one. It's such an addicting combination of malty, fruity sweetness with just a touch of freshness. I don't really smell any whiskey in this- the booziness resembles more of a yeasty malt not so much of a whiskey malt. Can't really pinpoint what type of fruit I smell either- it's like a mix of dried sweet fruit. Definitely not something you can pull off in warmer weather, but I feel like any guy can rock this during cooler nights.

Williamsmell

Lol...here we go again.
It's really crazy to me to read some of the reviews that I see here. I wonder how an individual may get an accurate/genuine account of how a fragrance smells, performs, etc., after seeing the total polar range of descriptions. Here, you have everything from "be careful on the trigger, powerful, 10hrs"....to...."Sprayed 8 sprays and was gone in 1.5 minutes".
C'MON!!!! How is this possible? Skin Chemistry and all of the other rationalizations aside, how can one person get hours and another person get 1.5 minutes? As someone that owns a new 2020 batch of this fragrance, I can tell you (sir...below me) that there is ZERO chance that you sprayed 8 sprays and got 1 1/2 minutes out of it. Why would you even write this? It makes NO sense, and more importantly, it skews the facts for someone who is coming here looking for an actual review.

jaexrobb

You really gotta wear this scent in the cold to get the best out of it. The other night I wore it and I got compliments from my friend she said she likes this one

Danikov

Honestly it was quite disappointing for me.

As a boozy fragrance fan I was super excited about this, but all I got is rubber, malt, and a weird artificial-fruit compound.

Worst blind buy I have ever made, sold it in a few weeks.

Scent: 5.5
Versatility: 6
Performance: 10
Longevity: 10

It was a 2014 batch.

Leemuz73

One of my favourite Designer Fragrances of all time...this is just stunning...
I hope and pray Mugler never discontinue this 🙏🙏

wbissar

this is really good stuff!!

fruity booze that is well done. the projection is just right. people want their frags to last forever and project loudly but in some cases this negates the purpose. with this frag, any more projection would make u smell drunk. imo it's done just right. this is a very useable fragrance fall through spring, definitely not in hot weather.

signature scent worthy imo...

ROBOTHUG

I'm having a hard time reviewing this fragrance because idk if i should review it from my memory of when i first bought it years ago or should i talk about it now?

I went to use Pure Malt for this Fall season and the juice is cloudy and it smells weird.
This is the same bottle I loved 3 years ago when i first bought it.
Could that 36M Expiration date really be true? It feels like I am dealing with spoiled milk.
I recently purchased another Pure Malt and it smells totally different.
It smells like the memory of Pure Malt, but less....this is a Reformulated version.
The original bottle is also the Reform but it is Skunked.

Idk........Maybe get this if you plan to use it all in 36 Months.

avid.Parfum

Opening is really nice, but the projection is poor and longevity is on the low side just around 4 hours. Seems it's reformulated. Wish I could have one of the older batch!

jaexrobb

I was blown away on the first impression because the opening notes are so good! I smell Booze and Fruity. I wish it can stay like that the whole time but it dries down chocolate/coffee/earthy/sweet. I recommend this scent for Fall/Winter season. I’ve had this bottle for 6 months now. I got it during spring and wore it a few times and I loved it but then summer came around and I didn’t wear it at all. Now that we’re getting to the colder season I’m gonna give this more wearings. But as of right now I like it

TJscentz

If you can get it cheap get it, it's definitely one of a kind 7/10

Andres777

Was blown away at first sniff after a blind buy 👌 amazing stuff.

Update: Performance of this is not as I would expect for such a sweet scent, unfortunately, It projects for a couple of hours and then its not easy to detect. Maybe because of the new formulation.

threedoubles

I gave mine away

Smellend

Cloying and sweet with very poor performance (December 2019).

Silly4sillage

I love the smell of whiskey and was excited to try this. I found Pure Malt to be too sweet and not boozy enough. Also, this smells synthetic to me. Strongly prefer Baraonda and Single Malt for their stronger whiskey accords. Enigma Parfum's cognac accord is also excellent, IMO.

This is a sugary pass for me.

enigmatic7

This is a very nice boozy, sweet, fruity fragrance. I still prefer Pure Havane over this though, there’s just something about Pure Havane that makes me 🤤. Unfortunately, I got a 2019 batch of Pure Malt and the longevity and projection is piss poor unless I spray very liberally (7+ sprays). Tried getting an older batch as I read they are awesome in both respects but had no luck. Ended up just buying off a retailer and ended up with a new batch. Still though, very nice fragrance regardless. I would say to buy Pure Havane first and then give this a whirl.

Edit: Okay after wearing this a few more times, this is my favourite. That boozy/whisky note is just something out of this world. Again, just wish performance was better on the newer batches but regardless. Absolutely wonderful.

Reyen7

I recently bought it after heard so much about this perfume, got lucky as I got 2013 batch. It is sex in a bottle, it's fruity, boozy is got everything. I just love the smell can't stop sniffing it. This is by far my favourite fall/winter fragrance. Longitivity is easily 10+ hours.

JanioScents

there is something i don't like about this, probably the Blend itself it becomes very sharp, sour & fruity...
i really hate the booze it does it just rising to the nostril.

autumnrequiem

I really, really, really love Pure Malt. Truly unique, refined and perfectly hits its boozy notes without being overly loud and obnoxious like the original A*Men.

Wish its longevity was better though. I get around 5-6 hours with the first 2 projecting very strongly.

discardedandroid

Much like the original, but without the tar note and add some fruit and a little bit of booze. Pretty good. I much prefer the original. It's just okay.

CagoDomo

Dried fruity

Boozy

Red Vine Licorice

Sweet

Fall in a bottle

The opening is to die for. Rich, dried fruits and waxy, Red Vine licorice soaked in Malt Whiskey. With an earthy patchouli and peat moss underneath that is a signature of the A*Men line. Licorice isn't a listed note, but that's the scent image my mind conjures...
As the fragrance progresses, it becomes more mellow and sweet with the vanilla, amber and caramel notes coming to the forefront. The malt, whiskey and fruits get quieter and quieter as the fragrance dries down but they're still there.

Longevity is not super impressive especially in the newer MUGLER formulations. If you can, get your hands on an older, Thierry Mugler bottle pre-reformulation. That's been my experience with all A*Men- the older they are, the better...

Pure Malt seems to be a love it or hate it and truthfully, I didn't love it at first. It's not a typical "cologne" fragrance- it's an acquired taste. But something changed along the way and it became a very special fragrance for me. And that's who I wear it for, me. This isn't one I wear to impress the ladies or anything. I wear it all autumn long and it has become synonymous with the fall time.

khanperfumephilia

Thierry Mugler Pure Malt is a great casual fragrance.
Pure Malt is a great, bold, boozy, sweet and casual fragrance, that makes it a great buy.
Winter fragrance
Lasting ..6 to 8 hours
❤❤

kameron

As someone said it before, the biggest problem with this nice fragrance is the longevity, also the silage. Very poor, even for older editions. I have 2016 and 2018 editions, with Thierry Mugler complete logo (not only MUGLER like nowadays) - both with poor performances. Considering this, I will not buy it anymore. I also tested the new editions with MUGLER logo - almost a disaster.

Voltor46

Everyone says that this is a winter perfume. They are wrong. And I have made the mistake of getting carried away by the reviews and of using it in winter for two seasons without enjoying it, the experience was unsatisfactory and frustrating. When I started using it on hotter days I discovered a totally different, exquisite, really surprising perfume. I do not think that this is a winter perfume, I put it at the level of Kryptomint and Ultrazest when it comes to freshness. It works much better for me on warm spring days, cloudy summer days, or summer nights, where the freshness of the top notes is maintained throughout the longevity of the perfume. In winter I feel it very synthetic and with an unpleasant plasticine smell. For winter the original A * Men is much better than Pure Malt.

tomspr

This is the first full-bottled fragrance that I bought. I love how boozy, yet inoffensive this smells. The notes of whiskey, caramel, coffee, and tonka bean definitely create a unique mixture of smell. Although not versatile and can only be used in party or casual occasion, Thierry Mugler A*Men Pure Malt definitely displayed a bold, yet friendly character.

My wife loves this one, too.

ScentedWalrus

Just don't like this. Could have been nice. I love the smell of whisky but this perfume doesn't smell anything like it. It has this soapy background which I don't like. Smells cheap. Like you've mixed an ok perfume with soap water.

There are much better offerings out there if you are after boozy scents.

rafsankhan

To start off WOW!! First off this reminds me firstly of gummy bears. Additionally, It is divinely sweet, smoky and classy. It is a bit boozy but nothing overpowering. The fragrance best describes a well dressed dashing gentleman radiating a comforting yet powerful presence. Perfect date night fragrance, this sweet fragrance is undoubtedly playful and charming at the same instant. 10/10, a masterpiece ❤️

Supersoaker2

Honestly just buy kryptomint Mugler don’t buy this it’s the same fragrance but this smells like it’s has more alcohol at least kryptomint has mint not alcohol and it projects better.

Kyffin

I just don't get it .This smells like cheap whisky boiled with burnt sugar and a household cleaner .

n3otyp3

Pure havane was the first flanker from the A*Men line that i've taste. It was instant love. Pure Malt took me a few times to grow on me. Now, i can´t choose a favorite between both of them. For me, Pure Malt is a niche fragrance on a designer bottle. Unique, boozy, sweet, a perfect fragrance for fall imho. One of the few fragrances on my collection with a backup bottle. I can´t pass without this one.

stephen.redeker

Let me balance out the haterade from the previous few posts. If you don't already like Mugler A*Men, then you won't like this one either. This is original A*Men with an added whiskey note, basically. If you're not into boozy scents, or chocolatey/vanilla type scents, this is not for you. But for the rest of us, this is awesome. It's not beastly, but it is decent performance-wise. Not sure when to wear this? How about in the fall through winter evenings, the colder months. You may even have a great experience with this in warm weather. It's probably not office-friendly. It's an acquired taste, but judging by the votes above, most of you agree this is a "love". In fact, the "loves" are double the "likes", which is rare. This one performs much better on me than Pure Havanne. I heard there was at least one reformulation (Is that when the box changed to "MUGLER" on the front?). Sadly, I also heard this will be discontinued. I found it at Marshall's last year with the red "closeout sale" sticker for $32. What a find. Gotta grab me another bottle, and it'll probably be thrice that price.

chrismcvey09

so what can i say about this...it's alright. i picked up the last bottle of this from one of my local big chain stores cause they said it was getting discontinued and they would not be getting any more bottles in. Iv'e seen reviews posted that were super positive and always praising this frag. Well unlucky for me, due to this Covid-19 garbage going on they took all of their testers down so i could not get my nose on it before buying it. I'm not mad that i purchased it but i dont see me wearing it much at all. The opening for me has this boozy alcoholic blast that smells like and old out of date cheap frag and then starts an immediate dry down. the dry down is somewhat pleasant though. it has this slightly boozy, vanilla aroma and thats all i really pick up on. It reminded me of the homemade vanilla extract my mother used to make when she would split dried vanilla beans and put them in a bottle of some top shelf vodka for a few years so she could use it for homemade cookies and cakes. unfortunately i dont exactly wanna smell like that regardless of the memories it brings. overall i would not give this a super high score but in all fairness i will place it at a 6/10. Its longevity kinda sucks, the scent is less than pleasing on the opening, pleasing on the dry down but its super close to the skin with little to no scent trail and the scent gets old fast. after about 6 hours of wearing this on a day off i took a shower and changed cloths so i could remove the scent from me completely in which i grabbed for my YSL Y EDP so i could have something polar opposite. im not sure when you would wear this considering i only wore it a couple times and im pretty much just holding onto the bottle now just cause. Unless you are a die hard fan of this stuff, id give it a pass on the purchase if you dont already have it.

dkroonen

Headache inducing
Can’t figure why people like this
Its awful.

Thierry Mugler Pure Malt is a great boozy fragrance, the most prominent opening notes are sweet whiskey and malt combined with sweet fruity accords, some green/earthy tones, and smoky woods. The whiskey note found in the opening combines with the malt note creating a boozy fragrance that is pleasant but it not necessarily smells like whiskey alone or malt alone, the combination of both creates a different, unique, and fantastic tone. The bergamot and orange described as opening notes, combine among other fruity notes, to the wearer, they just smell like fresh and sweet fruits. The coffee found in the mid notes, adds a soft bitter taste that adds depth to the fragrance and enhances very well the boozy notes; the patchouli adds a clear and distinguishable green note, not strong but noticeable, and, the cedar adds its aromatic woody note that is well known for. A few minutes after the initial application, Thierry Mugler Men Pure Malt reaches dry-down and with it, the musk develops joining the green patchouli; the vanilla seems to maintain the sweet tones initially created by the opening fruit notes; the amber develops a soft powdery tone which further improves the projection of the fragrance; finally, the peat adds its malt-like tone and bumps up the smoky scent of the fragrance. Once Pure Malt has reached its full dry-down, it can be summarized as a sweet boozy, fruity, and woody fragrance with some musky and smoky accords. Thierry Mugler Pure Malt feels mature, playful, bold, casual, and pleasant.

Kevgeez

Great fragrance. Worth the purchase.
I wish it performed better.

vanalika17

all fragrances from this line is so easy to like. sadly it didnt perform well with this one, up to 6 hours in longevity and only perform the first hour. if i only have the money for 1 frag in this line, i rather go with pure tonka. women likes it more, and it definitely better performance.

Scentmouse

The best flanker hands down.

Yucel77

I love this fragrance along with pure Havane but don't get great longevity from it at all 5 hours tops on my skin. Shame lovely scent tho.

effardy.effendy

this is a fragrance that you either love it or despise it. no middle ground. I love it, my girlfriend despise it. which what makes this fragrance that much more alluring.

what i love is the layer of scents that you can pick apart layer by layer and enveloped by the whiff of whiskey and almost caramel topping

Green02

pure malt is a versatile fragrance. When you spray it, you can find it in a mixture of notes such as fruit, coffee, milk, caramel, whiskey and vanilla. A very pleasant fragrance. Its performance is strong enough to remain for 8-9 hours. A perfect winter scent suitable for those who love sweet perfumes.

marcel2782

A clean, deep and mesmerizing alcoholic sweet. Smell of sweet caramelized fruits "flambé in some alcoholic drink" (in the precise words of a friend who possesses this). Very linear. Fulfills the role of a perfume that you use to please - guaranteed, the people around you. Official winter compliments puller. Very high performance.

Annie Pai

I am a woman n lives in jakarta, Indonesia n collecting many thierry mugler..the DNA in this one is just mesmerizing...firstly it smells like fresh cologne distinctive in men's perfume but seconds soon this beautiful incense n sweet scents enveloping me..if jo malone myrrh &tonka married to prada candy this will be their baby...only pure malt is much more rounder, warm, milky n mysteriously discreet..blind buy n grateful i got it...ordered pure wood, havana n pure tonka straight away as these are the only available varieties in my country...the minus part it sileage n projection not so good ...longevity on my skin 2hrs the most or less

Rannek

I am so disappointed. Again the evidence that online fragrance ratings and reviews are totally useless... I love the original a*men, and after the hype (it appeared every frag video, and the 4,5 rating) i gave it a chance. I just don't like the smell of it. Too strong, too messy, the original are so much better than this. I will never read or listen to any reviews for now, just myself.

EDIT* ::::: Well I think i was wrong, it is just the beast opening which confused me. If you let it dry down, it becomes a very good, masculine smell. Wow.
But you really need to be careful how to apply this. 1 spray could be good, 2 spray too much.
If you find the right balance it could be very pleasant fragrance.

EauDeBaldy

Damn is this a love at first smell.
First time wearing this and I immediately fell for this one.

It’s not in your face either, it’s a nice, smooth one that is something you will literally want to sniff and sniff all throughout.

This is a real masculine one, that I will definitely have this for my winter collection, hands down.

You can wear this thought the day and at anytime, but, if I had to pick the right time for me, it would be for the evening for sure.

tetrarch

I just received this one and I have to admit that it's a very nice fragrance. I hated the original A*Men Mugler but, this one is great.

Very sexy, sweet, irresistible and performance are great. I imagine wearing it in a bar while being well dressed. A perfect fragrance for night life in Winter.

A 8/10 for me.

nasira

Easily one of my favorite scents.. Fruits, whiskey..
Delicious and manly!! Really cant get enough of it. Cant say the same for my gf though.
In my experience I find it to be more appreciated than us guys than girls.
Wearing it nonetheless :p

Lervin HR

Fragrance with a strong smell of caramelized fruits, already in its drying phase highlights a sensation of sweet liquor. It's good, but I prefer Pure Havane. By the way, as in the entire A * Men line with the worst atomizers.

ReapThaWhirlwind

An incredibly diverse flanker in the A*Men line—that shares very little with the original fragrance. The differences are rather brute. It instantly reminds me of a Cain Marko (The Juggernaut) vs. Charles Xavier scenario.

This version features a unique blend of gourmandish bakery accents—surrounding the bold essence of a boozy, raw botanical malt—with just a brush of the A*Men's pungent, earthy patchouli in the backdrop (to create a faint reminiscent to the A*Men signature).

There is an ensemble of fruit-like notes within the gourmandish accord that envelops the bold malt. They are strongly muted, as like to preserve the sense of masculinity, while also striving to have an effect of ambrosia about them (the nectar of the Gods).

It is very perfumey with incredible technicianing—but is also extremely grounded, bold, pungent, and mildly bitter.

It is very different from the original A*Men, yet still in the same vein, in the sense that the aroma profile is strongly geared towards an older crowd, with more sophisticated tastes.

I don't especially get any other superhero references. But moreso, seems like the notion of this being something that all superheros (or supervillains) can come together over and enjoy; with cheers and hopeful praises of A*Men.

masonjarjar1969

I like this in the same way I like Pure Coffee. But I just can't see adding a full bottle of this one as well based on the fact that for the first half hour it's different. After that it's pretty much the same. I don't think I need another tobacco scent but now I need to give Pure Havane a chance. Maybe the difference will last longer than a half hour. As for Pure Malt, I think it's fine but the opening 20 to 30 minutes is not enough to justify owning it in addition to Pure Coffee.

Novelscent1995

Probably the home run fragrance of the Amen line. Booze and berries in the opening. I also get some freshness, like someone's peeling an orange. There's a smokiness from the heart onwards. Then, in the drydown I get salted caramel with patchouli. 10/10

MikeLounge

This fragrance, along with Pure Havane, make me wish I was into fragrances a while back, when all the A men fragrances were widely available.

Both have been a successful purchase for me, and while I prefer Pure Havane, I am sure this one will grow on me.

A boozy sweet scent, one that is perhaps more to please the self than to please anyone else, not that anyone will be offended by the smell, but I do often find myself sniffing the back of my hand...

jp.nase2105

a nice crowd pleasing scent its actually not bad A*Men Pure Malt is Interestingly Fruity,Whisky and Boozy in its Accords.

Clownboy

Had it for just one day and I can't really talk it down, but I'm waiting for it to blow my socks off and.. nothing.

It's a boozy, sweet, fruity scent which smells nice (and there's no escaping that) but it's not "amazing". Not yet anyway.

Will update tomorrow after I wear it for a full day at work. But for now it's just a really nice fragrance which I'm a little bemused by the adoration of.

VMartone91

Found this at Marshall’s for $32, so its blind bought. I didn’t need much, the reviews told me to get it. So, it’s boozy as hell from the beginning. This is the fragrance that will blow your mind right off the rip. Many colognes will brag based off the name and then never deliver. Oh no, no. Pure Malt does not just sit back and say. Yeah bro, we smell like booze. This is pure booze with the A Man DNA. This is incredible. Up top it’s screaming all malt and whiskey and peat. Smokey sweetness and awesome. After a couple hours it sweet and dark and wonderful. This is love at first sniff.

Freddy78

This smells mostly like malt. So you have to like the malt smell to like this. For me it doesn´t really smell bad, but I don´t like it either. I´ll pass. At least a bit better than Pure Havane.

greekbasil

Oh. Also as for the sprayer. If you press it evenly read center it sprays great but you must hit the bullseye ;)

greekbasil

Just picked one up from Marshall’s as well. Wonderful fragrance. Per usual the first time I spray a mugler fragrance I’m a little confused if I like it or not but after another wear roll or two it ibero ed pure love. So far I have amen , pure coffee , Havane , malt and wood. I feel like if you like one you will end up liking them all as they all have the same dna but are different enough to own them all.

phigreco.1

it really smells like whisky for the first minutes to half an hour, then it dries down to something sweet and undefined. performance is average. nothing to write home about

Original A*Men was too sweet for me. A vanilla bomb. Never liking sweet scents, never having worn gourmands, but as a devoted whiskey drinker, I've been curious to try Pure Malt for a long time. Quite unexpectedly an opportunity recently presented itself to finally try Pure Malt as I discovered a tester at Fenwicks in York.

Reading the description Pure Malt sounds like it should be a dogs breakfast. Trying it for real, it opens with a fruity, malty mix, the light peat damping down the sweetness with something resembling an hearth-like earthy smokiness. The fruitiness bestows more a semblance to Irish whiskey in that the subtle distinction is created by at least one of several well known Irish whiskey brands maturing its whiskies in Madeira, Oloroso Sherry and Bourbon-seasoned casks.

Coffee makes a vague if intermittent appearance, and the patchouli and cedar are also well hidden. The musk and amber base notes are barely more obvious. The fact is, vanilla over-powers everything the deeper into the dry down one goes.

The end game seems similar to original A*Men. Pure Malt winds up confectionary-like because of the dominant vanilla. Sniffing my wrist after seven or eight hours I smell toffee, though I'm surprised to discover some residual patchouli lingers at this very late stage. I'd be rating Pure Malt appreciably higher had the whiskey and peat notes properly lasted into the dry down and blunted the potent vanilla.

Even though this has better balance than original A*Men, everyday use would definitely induce scent fatigue in me. It needed to lose the sweet finalé: a singular flaw that compromises its versatility. Not then an automatic choice for interviews, weddings or formal occasions generally; but good for the office and the pub. It has decent sillage and projection.

So, there's no lingering smell of whiskey. Applying this won't have the lady of your dreams wondering if you are a dipsomaniac, nor the police reaching for their breathalyser should you find yourself pulled-over.

Not intending to denigrate anyone who likes the 'original' A*Men, but its following has been rooted amongst young males. (Actually, I suspect I encountered it on some women too.) A*Men is overtly clichéd to me, 'playing to the gallery' in the manner of Le Male and One Million. This association might in the eyes of some cast Pure Malt as slightly 'second tier' – which would be a misjudgement since Pure Malt is an evolution to be applauded and introduces Mugler to a whole new audience.

I'm reminded of Old Port Original wine-dipped cigars that were smoked back in the 1970s - a product seemingly banned from importation here since 2011 due to the re-classification of UK duty on miniature cigars.

Wow! What a gem, I found this at TJ Max for $40.00. First Mugler for me, Ok, I love this, starts out boozy sweet, and dries down with a hint of the Booze but the wood comes into play stays on the sweeter side with the amber and vanilla anchoring it. Everyone loves this when I wear it. Longevity, well it’s there to meet you at the shower next morning. Sillage is good as well powerful for the first 2-3 hours, filling the area, then the remainder of the time arms length. (Almost a beast) just experiment with sprays as each skin type is somewhat different. This gets a 10 from me and my wife.

The review below me is exactly my experience with this fragrance. I found a brand new tester for $25! It is a 2015 bottle and I’m not sure what the pre reformulations smell like but my bottle smells great! The dry down is wonderful and it seemed like it kept getting deeper and deeper. It was 30 degrees the day I got to wear it so maybe the coldness brought this scent to life.

Great masculine scent!

UnorthodoxPhotographyGuy

Found this at Marshals for $40 and usually around that price i usually stray away but so many youtube reviews pointed me to try this. Then saw it was highly rated here. Meanwhile the warnings of reformulation didn't scare me away.

When I saw the notes it offers I was like ok I must try this.

I can tell you, I got a great bottle. It smells amazing right from the top and drys down to a delicious Chocolate Whiskey Smell that is just so intoxicating on a cold day. I love the smell of it's long dry down.
Performance was REALLY good for half a day easily.

Girlfriend absolutely loves it. She rated it in her top favorites. She said it leans a little feminine but I honestly don't smell it's feminine notes like she does. Maybe it's the Gourmand Sweetness? Personally the mix smells Unisex/Manly. I couldn't see a woman wearing this personally.

If you are thinking about picking this up, go snag a bottle from Marshalls/TJMaxx. It's $40 and definitely worth it.

Its a extremely unique scent profile. its for winter night. A SEXY, sophisticated, clean and crisp scent. for mature guys. i get the original A Men DNA amped up with some notes of-
1) whiskey- its almost non existant, they have marketed it that its whiskey dominated scent, and aged in whiskey casks, etc. but unfortunately whiskey is missing. Though its little boozy on initial 10 15 minutes. i was expecting more whiskey.

2) alcoholic, sweet heavy, dark, coffee, malty chocolate, gourmand.

Overall a fabulous offering from MUGLER. Its not Thierry Mugler anymore. Its only MUGLER. I just cant stop myself sniffing it every moment till its not my wrists. Very mesmerising.

Just ok. Dominated by fruit, vanilla, tonka bean creaminess, not much booziness. Performance is good. Too feminine for my taste. My wife loves it on me. Ugh.

matherneconnor

Really nice boozy scent. Love the fruit aspect of it, makes it smell like a nice speyside with the fruit and earthy notes. While it isn't my favorite boozy scent, it is up there and could definitely suit more peoples taste given the lack of pure alcohol notes within it.

Kre8tor

I really wanted to love this. The opening is so freaking good. I got a 2015 batch and it lasts barely an hour on my skin. It seems like from other reviews here that 2017 and after batches last a lot longer. Shame

and_then_some_7

Smells amazing, but performance is lacking.

I bought this the same time as Pure Havane,i dont think i stopped smelling both fragrances for 3 days straight,
i absolutely love both they smell incredible.

This has a whisky-toffee-malty opening followed by vanilla and musk notes....its delicious.

someone mentioned YSL Opium.....i agree, there's an Opium vibe in this.

Performance is not particularly great i find 3-4 hours before becoming a skin scent.

This is not for kids or teens, definitely a more 35 plus fragrance.
I rate this 8.5/10,the performance just lets it down a touch.

Again..get the older bottles from 2009-2013. The newest reform isnt any good

Andy the Frenchy

Nice sweet boozy fragrance, but definitely not in my top 5 boozy frags. The smaller brother of the original, best suited for young crowds.
I will echo other reviewers in saying that unlike the original A*Men, this one has poor performance on my skin, barely reaching 3 hours of total longevity (including the skin scent stage).

Just a (small) like for me.
Spring/Fall evenings, age 15-35.

Pretty good stuff

Smells a bit boozy, rich, well balanced.

It has a bit of a sharp accord, something that pierces through the deeper, boozy notes, making it an interesting smell.

Absolutely LOVE this stuff!! Smelled it once at the local Dillard's in Manhattan, KS and bought it immediately. Boozy, complex, and powerful. Not something you can wear every day, but on a night out to the Irish Pub or wherever, it'll work like a champ. I could also see this being a good date night fragrance for those bold enough to rock it. Definitely not for the faint of heart, or the younger set though...

I've associated Mugler for being daring and unafraid to be polarizing in its Angel, A*Men and Alien lines, but Pure Malt (an A*Men flanker) is quite the opposite. It's very smooth, almost cool and refreshingly clean, save for smelling a bit like you've had a few drinks. Starts out boozy, slightly fruity, and malt-like, while the malt stays for longer and a creamy tonka vibe kicks in until the end. It makes me think more of a nice cold foamy beer than whisky. I don't really detect the original A*Men sticky chocolate-patchouli DNA here, but it's good. The biggest downside is longevity. It doesn't last more than a few hours on my skin, but I hate spraying this on clothes because it retains that boozy note that makes you smell like you're drunk.

In the end, though, I fell in love with the original A*Men more, and swapped my Pure Malt for that.

Pure Malt by Thierry Mugler

This fragrance is fruity and boozy at the same time. It seems to be based on lychee with a touch of whiskey. Quite good, I like it. The performance and the sillage are moderate.

RonMar

Lets just say it did not last long and I wanted it to last longer 2-3 the most then gone baby gone sorry this is a pass for me.

HungarianGenius

Never had any intention of getting any Mugler frags as they came across a bit cheap and tacky to me. Found a bundle deal on Pure Malt and Pure Havane at a ridiculously low price so thought what the heck..

Holding the bottle confirmed my cheap and tacky impression, and the sprayer is absurdly hidden behind a semi firm plastic so you have to kind of prod around at the plastic in hopes of actually finding it. Besides the negatives the bottle looks unique if a bit juvenile.

Spraying on paper its far too boozy and it overpowers the other notes. Spraying on skin as intended i was very pleasantly surprised, the booze is barely noticeable and i got a strong creamy malt smell with subtle zest and sweetness, very enoyable to smell! as it dries down it becomes more sweet with the vanilla coming out, i dont pick up fruit per se, but i do get touches of coffee, patchouli and amber.

to me it is quite a linear fragrance progression which is not a bad thing when it smells this good. Also i dont have the performance issues that are often mentioned, lasts 8 hours on skin and mildly projects for about 2.5 hours, cant expect more from such a well priced fragrance.

edit: i should note when i say well priced, i mean the price i paid, both for less than 130 aud, if you paid full retail you might be underwhelmed

zareliman

Blind buy and I'm very glad. It has a strong microbrewery scent with the AMen DNA behind. The only issue I have with this one is that the longevity and sillage are below what you get with the OG AMen but at the same time it doesn't have that unpleasant tar opening. Even tho this is unique I'd still consider it a safe fragrance because it's not very powerful and because people will not associate it's scent with a cologne but rather with some edible/beverage smell that are not perceived as fragrances.

Rerik

In case of the dried fruits I am instantly reminded of Serge Lutens Arabie. Both have the same vibe. Arabie is more refined and lasts longer. In case of quality

d'Orsay Dandy < Thierry Mugler Pure Malt < Serge Lutens Arabie

Look for vintage juice for the best performance the new bottles are terrible

Mathj34

Tested this out today probably the worst from Mugler on my skin disappeared after a hour disappointing was expecting more from this from other reviews. Pure havane is ten times better in my opinion.

sa6ko_metal_fen

I'm not gonna do an in depth review of this frag. Just gonna say it's absolutely gorgeous.

Very gourmand, very boozy, very sexy.

Girl want to eat you. Men are jealous.

Performs quite well, for a night out with a girl, which is where this fragrance is unbeatable.
This is not a clubbing fragrance with stellar performance, but it's great for a date with a girl at a bar, restaurant or just out. In this situation you don't need a beast to choke her out or a fragrance which lasts 12+ hours when you're sleeping right?

Bottle is magnificent. I cut the sprayer along the edge, so now it sprays like it's supposed to, without loosing the looks of the bottle.

SUM: if you can get your hands on this fragrance, just do it. You'll appreciate it.
