Ohhh YSL L'Homme... Where do I even start? This is a masterpiece. It smells warm, inviting, sexy and mysterious in a very soft sort of way. It's not loud, but when you spray this on, you get this warm, spicy, fresh ginger and woods with a hint of violet. This is perfect for a signature all year round scent. However, this one really shines in the spring, rainy months. I don't know why, but when I wear this on a rainy spring or summer day, it just hits different man... I can't explain it. I will always have this in my collection. 10/10

TheTrackEnthusiast

This fragrance is a masterpiece. Sweet, aromatic, and timeless. This is a safe blind buy.

Fragriminator

I reviewed this a while back but coming back bc somehow my bottle that I bought a year ago but haven't touched in a few months has gone grizzly bear mode performance. I put on 3 sprays yesterday morning before work (two neck, one shirt) and I was in a pronounced bubble for six hours easily. I have no idea what happened because performance was always a sleepy-a$$ puppy.

Joshc8907

Is there anything similar to this that last longer ??😫

TaeeFL

Great invigorating fresh ginger opening , sadly it’s short lived.Great fragrance , decent performance.

My pubic hair is supposed to be silver. But after three days of wearing "L'Homme" (and absorbing all of that ginger), it is now as orange than the fires of hell. Fortunately, I am used to burning sensations in that region.

"L'Homme" is seduction in a bottle. It swoops down from the sky to peck at your jelly sword like a robin catching a worm. Its strength overwhelms you, its creaminess confounds you, and its richness sexually humiliates you in front of your family.

"L'Homme" can be worn in any situation. It's as versatile as a Mongolian prostitute (and smells like one, too). If you are still hoarding bottles of Lizzo's "Big Panties in the Morning," you will find this an acceptable substitute. A legend.

HabibiFragrance

Absolutely beautiful fragrance. Extremely unisex and versatile, working in almost every occasion due to its floral and woody yet sweet and cedary qualities. It still holds up to this day, almost 2 decades later. I've used over 2 bottles of this and for good reason, it's a unique yet mass appealing fragrance that is easy to gravitate towards. A massive compliment getter, despite the fact that it's a more intimate fragrance. Beautiful overall, 9.2/10

defectedmonkey

It's incredibly weak and fleeting. But that's a good thing.
I have always been annoyed at great fragrances not performing well. But on the flip side I do on occasion get nauseated by fragrances in the summer, even those of very high quality in my collection that I enjoy and are 'marketed' for the summer.
For me L'Homme strikes a good balance for high heat situations. It's clean, a little sweet and creamy. It will not project heavily and assault peoples noses in high heat situations (Something a lot of men's 'Blue/Citrus bomb' summer fragrances are guilty of). It's subtle and sits close to the skin. It does leave a scent trail, but yes it can go undetected.
I have had 3 batches of this and yes this fragrance has been made weaker. I remember wearing this when it first came out and while I enjoyed it I found it becoming 'sickly' when I wore this in the summer. So I do appreciate that it has become more reserved.
Just my opinion, but sometimes less is more. Not always, but in this case, it works.

This one does not get the attention it deserves on the forums, overshadowed by the La Nuit flanker. That is too bad, because this is just extremely likeable. There is nothing especially challenging about it, but you don't always want complexity. Citrus top, ginger fizz, clean violet leaf, little nutmeg/basil zing, warm amber/tonka and just a hint of woods in the base. It also develops a bit of a light fougere profile as it wears. This and La Nuit have several similarities but are not redundant. A very happy surprise, a successful blind buy.

mordrod

This one is absolutely Floral(not sure why no one mentions that), yet masculine. However, the longevity is bad, the projection is terrible.
And that is coming from a person who considers DG The One EDP to have a decent longevity lol. So yeah, this time for real, the projection is almost non-existent.
Bought mine for 50USD/100 ml where I live, so itis alright, but I could imagine it is much more expensive normally. In such case, I would not have bought it tbh.

adzyia

not sure what batch I used but I tested this at my local Macy's and it sucked. it smelled like straight alcohol

Phil413

Perfect for church. Perfect for spring.
Perfect for the office. Perfect for a date.
It doesn't last long but it's worth it.
Just spray 4-5 times at least and reapply as needed.
Super classy fragrance.

Henritops

I like to think of this one as a classic dark academia summer fragrance.

Whenever I smell this I get the vibe of studying on a library with wood tables and floor, full of bookshelves and a soft day lightning coming through a victorian window in the middle of a hallway. All of this while reading a classical literature book with a sweater and shoes on.

I think this dark academia vibes come from the ginger, that gives some mystery to what would be otherwise a standard citrus fragrance. I don't get people who say this fragrance is "bright" really...

YSL L'Homme in 2024:

Let me break down the pros for you, in case you are wondering if you should buy this scent:

- the best ginger-dominant note in a scent ever IMO
- people will tell you that you smell very clean and nice
- blind-buy safe: I don't recommend blind-buying but if you must then you can feel confident with this one
- decent longevity given its scent profile (4 hrs)
- great price on discounters
- beautiful, rigid bottle
- can be worn in any occasion
- lovely cedar dry-down- the spices compliment it as well
- incredibly smooth

cons:
- don't expect too much attention from this scent, it is intimate and you will have to overspray
- not sure how it performed during launch but I see some commenting it has become weaker

Still for me, a 9.3/10

Ikerus

Easily an "everyday" kind of fragrance. The opening is a bit sharp for me (might be the ginger note), but it settles nicely about 15 minutes after application. This is both a good and bad thing. Good because you get to the good parts of this fragrance pretty fast, but in doing so, you lose a lot of projection. It may just be my skin, but although the fragrance does last for (about) 6 hours, it's essentially a skin scent. I have to pull my forearm close to me if I feel like smelling it, and this is after applying 6 sprays (both sides of neck, both wrists, and both inner elbows), which imo would be completely overkill with any other fragrance, but not this one.

samialdkheel

This perfume so sexy so addicting. First smelles this on my brother I was in love with the smell

TheodoreMnts

If YSL L’Homme Ultime is my signature scent and bias, then L’Homme EDT is my bias wrecker. Damn this doesn’t fail to amaze me with the character of the spices, how easy it is to wear, the hint of sweetness from the vanilla, and the feeling of a gentle breeze every time you get a whiff of it. It also makes me think if Nishane’s Ani was a daytime freshie designer, this would definitely be it. Gatekeeping both this and L’Homme Ultime in the hopes no one else would discover this. Easy to overspray and deserves more love 💛

AlexisOshianis

This is absolutely magical.

idkijustworkhere

Just smelled this for the first time, I fell in love with La Nuit D'Lhomme so i figured id give it a try. You still get that nice cardamom but in a more freshened up way, I didnt expect to like the ginger, but its pretty amazing. Very good.

joshg_nyc

Incredible scent. Very versatile, can be used in office, casual, romantic, party. This is a safe every day signature scent and a safe blind buy. I think this works day or night and in all 4 seasons. If you can’t tell I love this fragrance. You can overspray this and it won’t offend anyone. Wish it lasted slightly longer and projected slightly more. 9/10.

ChanIsHim#890

Need MANY sprays to attract someone other than that it is most definitely one of the best YSL fragrances of all time, in my personal experience I had to spray at least 9 sprays to get someone to notice I had it on. STAY BLESSED.

behemotcat

Such a delicious yummy fresh steamy scent. Delicious so yummy, if you wear this you're a sophisticated young gentleman Jésus, tu es vraiment l'homme :3

Tigerlilley9

A friend who works at a perfume counter in a department store gave me a sample of this (if you don’t have one of those, they are amazing, make one) even though I’m a woman. I’ve had it for a while and never thought to wear it. My husband has cologne he likes, so I never gave it to him either.

I am systematically wearing every perfume I have and also sampling new ones to try to find what I REALLY like. I’m trying things even if I don’t think I’ll like them, because I’ve found myself surprised on multiple occasions.

Uh… I LOVE this stuff. I thought I liked Calvin Klein Eternity Air, but that’s only because I didn’t know that it wanted to be YSL L’Homme when it grew up.

This was instant love for me. I can’t even pick out many of the individual notes, I just love it. I know it is for men, but even my husband says this is one of his favorites on me too. He was surprised it was for men. I’m not saying that it is feminine, I wouldn’t say that. It just smells awesome, and awesome is awesome.

I still have more samples to go through and I want to try everything multiple times before I make any decisions, but… this is at the top of my list right now for a full bottle purchase.

alien_with_blue_eyes

Similar to La Nuit De L'Homme, but easier to wear. This is type of scent for every day, every situation. Very inviting and comfortable, one of the best for netflix and chill. Ginger, little vanilla with tonka and woods, what's not to like? One of the best fragrances YSL released to date 👌

YigitSaintLaurent

To me, this scent is quite reminiscent of my childhood, with my grandfather. It smells perfectly woody and sweet

Adrmoreno25

Very fresh, nice fragrance. It's the type of fragrance to put on during the summer when not expecting to go out, or do much. Lasts a pretty long time (lasted 6 hours before becoming a skin scent), and will definately get compliments if worn out. The fragrance can smell a little too soapy to some, or artificial and chemical like, but I really like the soapyness of it, and it doesn't seem really that artificial or chemical like to me.

Gogyanich

Either my tester has a wrong juice in it or this smells straight up like my mom's frag. For me it's smells 100% female, it's kinda uncanny that it's smells like this.

StardustHK

Soft. Inviting. Contemporary. The perfect choice for a (first) date as L'Homme does not scream or suffocate the surroundings under a blanket of syrupy candy sweetness. Nor -what's even worse- obnoxious ambroxan. This is for a man resting in himself. Not for boys and certainly not for screamers.

dionnn

Boozy Apple Cider

What can I say? It's a nice Spring fragrance. As a young guy, It does rub me off as slightly mature though. Early 40's mature.
Lasts almost as long as its older cousin La Nuit De L'Homme.

It's very basic, safe, and fun to spray.

I would rather spend my money on La Nuit De L'Homme but neither of them last or project well enough to justify the price.

Works well on clothes

5/10 all considered

ShowMustGoOn

This is beautiful. I already have La Nuit de l’Homme but this one is fresher. Both gorgeous and I probably do not need both but I love wearing this. There is something aquatic in it, it has a bit of that marine vibe, but it is a fresh and spicy scent. It is marketed to men and I know it is very popular among men but I love it on myself. Not a loud acent but I definitely lasts for many hours on skin and clothes. Beautiful scent.

verdeyazul

Fresh-feeling and inviting, great all year round.

sh83

I'm not sure if one of my grandparents or other family members wore something similar to this in my younger years or what but this triggered a bunch of nostalgia for me. The scent is great so don't misinterpret or come at me for this comparison but when I first smelled this it reminded me of sitting in church with my grandparents and all the older ladies in the early 90s. I also get a slight hairspray type vibe from this as well but again, don't let that dissuade you from trying this as those were just the particular notes that triggered those very specific points of nostalgia for me and this is obviously a much better olfactory experience then either of the two memories I mentioned. It might just be due to that association but I see this as more of a formal, or nicer, occasion fragrance than a daily driver.

notTryHard

Smells like an old grandfather's car or wallet.

Imagine a brown leather wallet, that's how it smells like (in a good way).

Theodorapo

Gorgeous scent but my nose does not pick it up after 2minutes! I just can’t smell anything! Obviously its not a fragrance problem but my nose who doesn’t want to let me smell this beauty!

Samoskikurd

This is my all time top fragrance ever. If this fragrance was a woman and i was married, i would cheat on my wife for her. When i die, shower my body with this.
Pros: you can wear it whenever/wherever you want.
cons: it doesnt stay for too long
10/10

Bizzy1995

Warm and inviting with the spice notes, vanilla and a soft white pepper but yet clean and crisp from the citruses ginger and basil. The cedar adds a woody quality and vetiver as a dusty woodiness.

This smells like a day time/nicer weather version of La nuit de L’Homme

dine.vanille

This is my boyfriend's scent and I can't stop smelling it. Smells clean, sexy and fresh, and lasts really long on his skin - the projection is however very intimate it, I can smell it only when we're very close. Whenever he wears it I can't stop sniffing his neck!!!

sholas1023

Story time....
I bought this in 2011, and i loved the scent profile. wore it to work for like 3 times and got compliments every time. My wife was pregnant at the time and she complained of how strong the perfume was even when i come back from work in the evening. so i had to sell it to a co worker. he got a lot of compliments with it and i was very sad i had to let it go.
fast forward to 2024, on valentines day, i got a 200ml bottle of it from my wife. The smell is still as beautiful as i can remember it.
I showered myself with 5 sprays of it and the projection was nuclear in the first hour. i had 8 hours of longevity. this is still a banger. I enjoyed it very much

Zack_Zucco

Scent-wise, this fragrance is absolutely beautiful. So smooth, so easy to wear. This is an all year fragrance for me that is particularly good in the warmer seasons (Summer and Spring).

One issue, and a big one at that, is l'Homme's inability to last over two hours. Pretty disappointing given how good it smells, but just do what I do and overspray.

kristianivanm

There's a reason this has stood the test of time and is still sold in retail. Definition of a modern classic in my opinion. I've tried various flankers, even the infamous La Nuit, but I find myself continually drawn back to the OG.

An easy going fragrance that can be dressed up or down. Goes with a suit and tie and/or a crisp white tee and jeans. Light yet creamy. Refreshing yet refined. I like that it doesn't have that typical sporty "blue" vibe that's so common in lighter men's fragrances. It's warm and elegant. Yes longevity is it's weak point but it performs average for me as an edt. Just overspray, it's not that big of a deal. Worth having in every guys collection.

Great for the office
Great for church
Great for weddings
Great for casual lunch/dinner
Great for spring/summer/fall

fragrance_father1995

The lack of any longevity cannot be compensated by any scent let alone one as forgettable as this. Would co aider another cologne personally.

ōyiss

PSA: L’Homme is being discontinued in Australia.

I contacted YSL Australia to ask why L’Homme is listed on the YSL Australia website as a ‘last chance’ product. They responded saying that it is being phased out in Australia, although they can’t speak on the rest of the world.

I’ve seen tons of bottles flooding grey market retailers recently, so I’m guessing that department stores are ditching their stock.

This has been my favourite scent for years, so I’ll be grabbing a few back up bottles while I can.

m373x

Warm spicy ginger opening that dries down to fresh warm sweet spicy gingery appley scent. Warm, fresh, clean, sweet, all at the same time. Inviting and elegant. Subtle and smooth. Nothing sticks out, very well rounded. Calming quality to it. Modern classic.

Versatility king. Formal or casual, suit or shorts. I can wear this anywhere anytime. School, office, date, meeting her parents, hanging with friends, hanging alone, hiking, going to the beach, going to church, wedding, repairing a car, going to bed, you name it.

Batch code 38T600A
Produced 2020-06

Moderate projection with longevity of about 6 hours. 3-6 sprays

I get NO spice with this. Got this as a sample, tried it, and bought a bottle years ago as my first cologne without ever knowing what the notes or description was. To say I was shocked to see ginger and spice is an understatement.

To me this just smells like clean laundry. It’s a relatively faint scent that sticks longer to clothes than skin. My husband has said it “just smells like you after a fresh change of clothes”. Doesn’t last super long imo, and sillage fades within the hour, but it is a good everyday scent that is nice and cozy. I wear this pretty much daily.

Clinty@

I have a 2009 batch 9LAA. This blend is insanely strong and projects very well. I get compliments everywhere. The older versions are the best.

Projection: 8/10
Silage: 7/10

This is a perfect summer scent.

Marssade

I am here to tell you that if you like this scent instead go check the l homme EDP (orange color) and grab it while you can , if you can find it.The best YSL fragrance to this day.

moufbreather

it's really good at doing its job as a l'homme, nothing stands out extremely, it's safe and warm/clean. most notable thing is the musk compared to other l'hommes. 7/10

JamesPawn

i only have the belcam classic match version i found on clearance for 3 bucks . you can spray it like crazy cause it was 3 bucks . it leans kinda like d&g dupe

Lukman Pratin

One of the best scent DNAs until present times without being generic, especially for one that came out almost 20 years ago. In my opinion, in terms of the scent DNA, it’s even still better compared to such popular nowadays’ scents like BDC / Dior Sauvage / Dylan Blue / etc.

One that the smell makes me forgive the poor performance. 🙂

maxpowerboston

I got a 2006 bottle of this recently. It’s in great shape and the citrus top notes are in tact. I had a bottle in 2012-13 and remember liking enough it but selling it off due to horrid performance. As a collector, I couldn’t pass up a first year unused bottle at a steal of a price. It’s a ginger/citrus/tonka scent that came out in the era of the Armani Code/Allure Homme Sport tonka craze. It’s a nice enough scent but, today, it sort of smells generic and basic. I was surprised at how boring it smelled as I recalled loving the profile a decade ago. The ginger counters the tonka well but that basic tonka base is really all you get after an hour or so. The spices and whatnot it lists are not super present but it does have that early 2000s sharp musk Mall Cologne DNA along the tonka.

Longevity on my 2006 bottle is as bad as I recall my 2012. I get maybe 3-4 hours but 75% of that is as a skin scent. Doesn’t last on clothes.

A 7.0/10. It’s an important scent that doesn’t really hold up over time. There was a period where I thought this was one of the best fragrances ever made, if only the longevity were better. Not any more. Smells boring and dated. Got multiple compliments at work wearing this, though. So it’s still a popular profile.

Citron

WOW!

I just got a bottle (Dec 2023) and wow! Now I understand why L'Homme was such an important fragrance for YSL, and why there are sooo many other variations in the L'Homme collection.

Perfect balance, there are quite a few notes in the bottle, but everything is balanced very carefully. It is sweet but not syrupy, just a bit spicy, just a bit of vanilla (more vanilla than lemon), overall very elegant, clean, multi-purpose. After the initial application, it produces what other people have described here as "warm" smell: it creates a warm, comforting, sweet, clean smell that is fantastic in autumn / winter / spring. This is the kind of thing that attracts people to get closer to you.

Not a macho smell, not a summer or sporty smell, it is not particularly flashy, and it doesn't suggest a young man in his 20s. It suggest the image of a successful man, well put together, wearing a very elegant suit, and expensive dress shoes.

FragheadMo

This is the only from the l'homme/la nuit lines that i like. One of the best modern fresh designers. I love the ginger in this. I know the performance is bad, but I don't care because I wear fragrances only for myself, so as long as I can smell it on myself for a couple of hours, it's alright.

8,5/10

NoirRGV

I've had a bottle as a gift given to me in 2015 and this thing is a BEAST. So damn classy and smooth. Projects pretty loud so if you have older bottles go light on the sprays.

Samurai23

I remember I really liked this the first time I sniffed this at the store and I bought it.
Nowadays I wear it from time to time to the office. It is a nice everyday winter/fall man's fragrance. I spray it on my clothes several times and it lasts and projects the whole day.
It's a very pleasant, warm, spicy, clean, inviting scent. It's not a sweet or sexy or seductive type of smell.

Scilletok

GORGEOUS scent but despicable longevity and projection. Unfortunately not worth the money unless you just want a room freshener.

mc_mqnuel

This smells pretty good and very masculine. Kind of smells like apple cider and smells boozy but in a fresh way. The bottle is also pretty dope. It is noticeable within arm length but further you can’t smell shit. Longevity is not that great. Overall it’s a pretty good fragrance that is inoffensive.

Leonnchu

Very elegant and serious smelling fragance. Smells woody and spicy. I would wear it more for formal ocassions, like office, a date or church (I wore it to a couple of funerals too XD).

Vapidcucumber

This is the quintessential male fragrance- if you gave AI the instruction to create a male fragrance it would smell like this. It gives me D&G The One vibes, but is equally as pathetic when it comes to performance. Such a shame because the scent profile is very nice, it’s a warm spicy yet fresh scent, but is pathetically weak.

Porsche9!

One of the weakest fragrances I have ever tried. Abysmal performance. Same goes for Sillage. Such unfortunate case as its one of the best office safe scents. Only way I can see it work is that you have a decant with yourself and apply it every hour or two or overspraying, but by doing that you pay way way to much for what it delivers.

So weak I can't really discern any particular notes rather than it smells like typical YSL scent. (fruity and spicy).

Full disclosure, I got a decant from store vendor for which I usually thought that they send better performing fragrances in decants than what is then sold in full bottles. Not in this case unfortunately.

Smell: 9,5
Performance: 2

TipTopNotes

L'Homme opens up bright and semi-sweet without being overly-sharp or astringent; the smoothened ginger note and citruses combine--to my nose--to deliver a deceptively non-citric fruitiness. If the note breakdown included pear in the top notes, I'd believe it. The opening reminds me of Coach for Men's opening, briefly. Then it settles down and some of the heavier notes start to fade in. The spice notes add a unique edge to this, as it separates YSL L'Homme from otherwise similar-smelling fragrances. The violet leaf adds an almost watery tinge of green to the scent. The white pepper combine with the citruses up top to create this intriguing lemon/pepper dynamic that's present throughout its lifespan. The tonka in the base melds with the top notes to sustain and even deepen the sweetness as the upper layers fade out, all while the cedar adds a dry--yet crisp--element to counterbalance what would otherwise be a thicker, gooier base.

This might be a bit of a stretch, but it smells similar to what I'd imagine combining Givenchy Pour Homme and Coach for Men to smell like, even though the note breakdowns are pretty different between L'Homme and those two. It has an element of "maturity" to it, and does smell a fair bit removed from ultra-modern fragrance DNA's, but I would never describe this as smelling "outdated" or "like a grandpa's cologne". It works well, even today.

The performance is better than I expected--lasting around 4-5 hours of moderate to mild projection--while being both more effervescent and longer-lasting than the denser, creamier La Nuit de l'Homme.

Overall, a very balanced scent that pleases the nose and those around you while still being different enough from today's offerings.

Beezyroc

What can I say about this YSL lHomme i got it as a gift first YsL brand i have in my collection. It smells great i used it daily and bottle is almost half way done but i cant really say anything negative about the smell. Its sweet to me and i like sweet smells its sweet yet not fruity. I’ve used it day and night and summer and winter works well i dont feel it lasts long but for the price i see it sells for it is a safe buy. 👍🏼

nammon09

This has been my most used scent for a while. While probably ideal in the spring and autumn seasons, this can be worn all year round for any occasion. It starts out with a fresh, floral scent and then drys into a fresh, woody smell. Projection is unfortunately weak and the top notes fade rather quickly, but I get hints of the base notes throughout the day. Great for wearing around the office or running errands. Despite its mediocre performance, the scent alone is worth it.

euvs71

This was a blue fragrance before "blue fragrance" became a thing. But unlike most of the blue fragrances it has a character. And it still smells good and modern 17 years after its release. Would've been a perfect signature scent if it wasn't for the poor performance. Typical from YSL. Its really hard to love the brand these days.

nicetosmellyou

After trying countless niche perfumes with extraordinary quality, I still think this smells awesome. It's the perfect starter fragrance. Maybe I'm biased because it was the first fragrance that I purchased with my own money. But it's so universally likeable and accessible with a cheap pricetag and an amazing scent. Very spicy ginger and pepper with freshness from sharp citruses and cedar, cucumber-watery violet leaf and an underlying sweetness from tonka bean. It's youthful, but still comes across as classy and elegant. Unfortunately, the poor performance is what holds me back from wearing it anymore, but I still appreciate the great scent of this. If you are in your early teenage years or twenties reading this, and still haven't got your first fragrance I highly recommend you to try this one.

dayonee

Very nicely done. This is a gentleman's perfume. No frill, fresh, down the middle, classy and gentle. Nothing mind-blowing but done so right. If I had to group some perfumes together with this, it'll include Chanel Allure Homme, Platinum Egoiste, Dior homme, Prada L'homme and (maybe) Versace Pour Homme. Easy to wear casually and in office, non-offensive, versatile, clean-cut gentlemanlike.

Won't comment on the performance since everyone and their momma knows that it's sub-par (reasonable for me, though, 3-4 hrs). But it's so good that when you re-spray, you'll enjoy it every time. Dry down is amazing.

eplesterge

this is the perfect fragrance for any occasion, very reliable and will not let you down, safe to say it's a great blind buy. however, the only downside is the longevity, performance and sillage, which is really weak, but is perfect if you like a more intimate, seductive fragrance. gets many compliments. i will never get bored of l'homme, and i will continue buying it in the future, it is most defintely a 11/10 in my book :)

HDMIPlayer

Longevity on me is questionable but it smells good and I find it to be fantastic for a night out. I recommend you pour some of this into a travel spray so you can reapply because I need to respray every 3hrs.

The ginger is captivating though.

Jaime N

This is the epitome of versatility in fragrances. There's absolutely nothing harsh or unbalanced about it - the spices aren't abrasive, the sweetness isn't cloying, the citruses aren't sharp, the woodiness isn't resinous - all the different notes just form a very balanced harmonious composition without any soloists standing out. The result is a very unique, gentle, light, clean, classy & sophisticated yet casual - therefore extremely versatile and safe - fragrance that suites any imaginable age, gender or occasion (yes, it leans masculine, but anyone could wear this). It does have this kind of apple-ish feel in the opening, probably the result of the ginger + citric top notes, which develops to a very light peppery-woody-floral clean dry-down. It's probably the most agreeable scent my nose has ever come across. It's not a daring, provocative fragrance.
It does have a rather poor performance. I actually think the longevity is not as bad as most people say, but this does turn to a skin scent very quickly with a very modest sillage. Re-apply after a few hours. It is worth it.

monsieur.moustache

Similar to other YSL fragrances, this has an airy/ethereal aspect to it. Seems to envelop the wearer in a sophisticated aura, yet the scent itself can be difficult to detect. What I can detect smells pleasant and the scent last for a decent amount of time. Good for occasions in which you want to smell nice but not overbearing.

jricker10

This is a great fresh citrus scent with outstanding ginger in there. Classy, elegant, timeless. Possibly a signature scent. Do not listen to the morons saying this lasts 30-45 minutes and is gone. While this is not a projection monster, it easily lasts 5-6 hours which is honestly plenty for me. It's cheap and you can reapply easily if needed.

Kesaev

Don’t know why people saying this is weak. Went swimming with it and I still can smell it on myself. And the scent itself is amazing easy 10/10

I personally don’t like fresh fragrances but this has that warm and spicy smell that makes it not just fresh and clean. Citrusey fresh, warm and spicy. This combination is amazing.

LostSock

I wore this down the pub last weekend and the landlady asked me if I was wearing YSL, I replied yes of course to which she replied, "I knew it, I've always loved Y Eau de Parfum." I didn't correct her, I was impressed she even got the right house, most folk don't know much other than Sauvage/Aventus/Brut etc.

Once I got home I gave Y EDP and l'Homme a spray on each hand, and I could instantly tell why she'd made the connection, they're very similar for the first hour and I'd never made the connection myself. Came here to have a look in the 'reminds me of' bit and it's not there.

They dry down totally different, but the openings are alike.

I love them both regardless. Y EDP has far superior longevity, but l'Homme has its place as a more intimate choice.

If you own both, give them a side by side.

allofthisjoy

Love the scent itself, but projection, longevity, sillage… So minimal I haven’t even worn it once since I tested it. I don’t need my fragrances to be BEAST MODE PANTY DROPPER NUCLEAR COMPLIMENT MONSTERS, but this stuff is undetectable on my skin after 45-60 minutes. As somebody below said, you might as well not wear anything at all.

RogueZXRO

Man, I absolutely love the soft subtle smell. It smells elegant and sophisticated for a man who has some class. Great for those who do not like overpowering scents. I hate when people call anything generic but they themselves like generic scents. This isn’t generic as it doesn’t smell like anything that keeps being put out nowadays. Get this and La Nuit and you will be set for life. Overall, a masterpiece scent that is timeless even if it came out in 2006, it does not smell dated and does not give off a vibe that you are trying too hard.

Gio786

I like it, it is a weak one but I like the mix of citrus and spices. It is a great one to throw on at anytime really, I wear it to sleep because the spices are very warming. Overall it is a great fragrance to have in your collection and smells good 7/10.

Roman86

This is a fairly light and somewhat generic sweet fragrance. This is something that one wears when they don't want to stand out too much. It's pleasant but not worth its asking price.

Odor Aeternitatis

First of all, I am biased about this fragrance because it's the first fragrance gift I received from my love and I have worn it for about 10 years before I started this hobby. This fragrance is amazing. It's created by the best master perfumers in the world, you have a signature from Anne Flipo and Dominique Ropion on it.

Some extra points:
It has a very well-balanced, sexy, and modern scent,
It has everything you want from a masculine fragrance: fresh, spicy, and woody with tonak bean and vetiver, the best combination.
It's very versatile and you could wear it all year round. If you want only one fragrance, this would be a good option.
It has a character and signature-worthy value
It's warm, fresh, inviting, and a good compliment-getter, it has been proven through years
Not overhyped like some of the Dior or Chanel ones and
It has a reasonable price and a beautiful bottle

7/10

flem

It's about as 'generic cologne' as they come. Kind of sweet, kind of musky, kind of woody, kind of spicy, and mostly powdery. Very hard to recognize any particular notes. Doesn't smell unique or moving in anyway. This one does nothing for me. Except bore, I guess.

Girolamo

This was my staple during my university years, bought with a gift card I received for Christmas many years - almost a lifetime - ago. At my friend's place I once tried his perfume, which immediately caught my attention since the only perfume I wore before then was "Fuel for Life" by Diesel, given to me by my somewhat Jocasta complex afflicted aunt for my 18th birthday. My first thoughts upon smelling L'homme can be summarized as "It smells like those classy dry woody scents, like Daniel Craig's James Bond would wear!". Of course, now I realize that Craig's Bond would instead wear something like Guerlain Vetiver.

So, I wanted a bottle of what my friend had, which turned out to be La Nuit, but ended up with the original L'homme. Unable to express olfactory experiences in more detail, I asked the store assistant for a classy woody scent "the one with the octagonal cap". She gave me L'homme and I immediately fell in love with the smooth blend of warm spicy citrus and woody notes. This was my coming of age in an olfactory sense, abandoning the fresh fruity juvenile nonsense of Diesel's Fuel, and into the elegant maturity of YSL L'homme

It lasted longer back then than it does today. When my friend and I went partying again after the exams, a few sprays were enough to cover at least a few hours on my skin and clung even longer to my scarf. L'homme has the reputation of being the more daily-wear scent between it and La Nuit, more civilized and diplomatically aloof. While unlike La Nuit, L'homme is not honored with the sobriquet of "panty dropper", it did land me some success with more chubby ladies, against whom my heart as a Sensitive Young Man with crude and underdeveloped tastes at that time had not hardened yet.

Bought it again earlier this year out of nostalgia, instead if left me with bitter indifference. It simply doesn't last for even an hour, leaving you with scant little time to enjoy its superficial development. Its capricious volatility reminds me of the irrecoverability of our youth, it's over before you know it. Lorenzo de' Medici immortalized this sentiment in the following verses more than five centuries ago:

Quant’è bella giovinezza,
che si fugge tuttavia!
Chi vuol esser lieto, sia:
di doman non c’è certezza.

What beauty lies in youth
yet ever so fleeting!
Let him who wants to, be happy
for there is no certainty in tomorrow.

Alfatiha001!

this smells nice; it’s subtle yet pleasant, but i was sad to find that projection and longevity are virtually non-existent with this one. it’s such a weak fragrance that you might as well not wear anything at all.

L'Homme Yves Saint Laurent: A Safe Yet Underwhelming Choice

This fragrance is undeniably fresh and evokes a soapy quality that exudes cleanliness and purity. However, my exploration has revealed both its strengths and shortcomings, leaving me with mixed sentiments.

Upon the first encounter, L'Homme Yves Saint Laurent opens with a burst of invigorating citrussy ginger notes, surrounded by a green and woody aura. This initial impression is refreshing and undoubtedly suited for warmer weather and daytime wear, making it an ideal companion for casual outings.

While the fragrance boasts an enticing blend of woody, spicy, and citrusy elements, its presentation seems to fall short of its price point. The composition exudes an unfortunate air of cheapness, which detracts from the overall experience. This disconnect between the scent's quality and its cost is disheartening, as one would expect a more refined and luxurious offering from the esteemed Yves Saint Laurent house.

Regrettably, the fragrance's dated undertones further add to my reservations. Though it may appeal to those seeking a nostalgic touch, the scent fails to keep up with today's modern standards, which are continuously evolving with innovative creations.

Moreover, L'Homme Yves Saint Laurent's aroma appears to be relatively basic and lacks the complexity that would elevate it from the realm of ordinary. It doesn't possess that alluring characteristic that sets it apart from the plethora of cheaper alternatives available in the market.

In terms of performance, the fragrance boasts a decent longevity of approximately 6 hours, ensuring it remains detectable throughout a significant portion of the day. However, its sillage fails to make a lasting impression, which may disappoint those seeking a fragrance that leaves a captivating trail in its wake.

One redeeming quality of L'Homme Yves Saint Laurent is its gender versatility, as both men and women can comfortably wear it. This inclusive aspect enhances its appeal, allowing it to be a go-to option for those who appreciate a fragrance that transcends traditional gender boundaries.

In conclusion, L'Homme Yves Saint Laurent is a safe and fresh fragrance, evoking a sense of cleanliness and soapy allure. However, its shortcomings cannot be overlooked. It falls short of its price point, bearing a cheaper aura that diminishes the overall experience. Additionally, its dated profile and relatively basic nature contribute to a lack of excitement and innovation. While it offers a reliable option for warm weather and casual daytime use, it fails to leave a lasting impression that sets it apart from other, more affordable fragrances.

Jude0777

Has anyone tried 2023 batch code 22X21SE ? I have a 2013 batch and performance is alright. 8 hours with 4 hour projection.

JustHalfling

Preface : This has been my signature scent for 8 years and counting now.

As I told my best friend, who I recommended this fragrance to: "YSL L'Homme is the "good guy" fragrance. Not the "nice guy" fragrance, but the "right guy" fragrance. Women LOVE this on a guy. It smells clean, luxurious, classy, sophisticated, gentle, alluring, you name it. It's very powerful stuff when it comes to making an impression, especially on a woman."

I've met every single woman I've dated in life wearing this, and they have all loved this fragrance.

As for people complaining about performance, keep in mind this will perform well on warm spring/summer/fall days, and is otherwise intended to be a cuddle scent.

It's OK. Smells like YSL La Nuit De L'homme going on, but turns into a skin scent within 30 minutes. Heat activated? Maybe if I hit myself with 8 sprays and decide to gym it up. This is an over 85F scent. I can smell it within 1.5ft, so maybe if you get really hot and someone is really close. Don't pay more than $45/100ml, or just buy the 200ml La Nuit and use that.

#182 in my "Tour de Fragrance"
YSL L'Homme - Simple, Straight Forward Office Wear

Okay, it's rare these days that I'm in an office for more than a visit with my stockbroker or my dental hygienist, but if I were, I'd wear this proudly every day, likely to absolutely no one's notice. It's in the same category for me as Prada Amber: a straight up, no nonsense man juice for the white-collar world, inoffensive and middling in longevity and sillage. Would I lose the basil? Sure. Substitute some white floral? Sure. But those are niggling critiques. This is a great traditional, office-safe scent of almost, but not quite acceptable performance, so I'd be in if I needed something in this category. I wouldn't wear this on a date (she won't care) or bother with it on a day in the sun (it won't take the heat) or waste it on the gym (Dude no one at the gym cares, unless it's LA Fitness, where they care about everything). But for a day of meetings, on the phone, lunch with a client, perfect for all that.

0ISmellBest

Excellent performance with sharp protrusion, long lasting longevity is established. Performance is directly directed into any forward facing nostrils via sillage, all around and inside the blow holes. A citrus top then the meat of the fragrance appears, as if user were slathered in fragrance rub citrified maximally nasally. Incredible, there is still a faint remnant of citrus an hour after application, well into the mid notes. Subdued and spicy yet drives the women wild with wanton abandon. Severely lacking in lack of character. A creative scent designed for maximal sexual reaction upon nasal deployment.

C.P.71

The higher the temp...the better this will shine and perform! body heat will also activate it if you will, hours later etc,,,,pple will notice it,,,, go ahead try it,,.. you will see! :-)

Rockavon

I’m sure it probably smells nice but I can barely smell it. I have a huge collection and this is the weakest scent I have. It could smell amazing and it wouldn’t really matter so for that reason I have to give it a 3/10.

Antti

Very light but very sweet and fresh too. and erotic maybe because of the musk. Very mens fragrance not for women at all in my opinion and also reminds nuit del homme being still very different.Very great and easy to wear fragrance and it is bit erotic smell too even it is fresh.

Psalzarulo

I knew I liked this the first time I smelled it and that I would eventually like to own it. The violet leaf really stands out to me and is balanced really well by the spices. The earthy base notes of the Tonka and cedar give this a resinous sweetness that makes it - to me - much better to smell that a lot of the brighter, fresher green scents out there, even this does feature some citrus and aromatics.

This is a really enjoyable, somewhat unique floral/spicy scent that fits in with YSLs over all scent profile and easily signature-scent worthy. This is a 9/10 on the scent alone. The only valid criticism one could make is the semi-synthetic sweetness, but I really think it smells great and it's no more synthetic than 99% of other designer frags anyway.

Ross88

I love the smell the warmth and everything about this fragrence but as people have already mentioned its weak leaving a trail its weak at projection however its awesome for intimate occasions ...... date nights its a win win.

SamiMugler

I got compliments by women, sexy

CHESTDAYBABY

An indescribable fragrance that does not disappoint.

I love spraying this onto my bed more than wearing it.

9/10

Mr.Andersson

This is all-time favourite stuff right here. Will buy this over and over again.

Cherryade

I'll echo others, beautiful soft, clean, light scent...absolutely lovely fragrance but just does not last. It's still worthy to pick up though if you can find it cheap as it really is such a nice smell.

J808

Love the scent profile of this even though it doesn’t last more than 4 hrs for me… the bottle is overly heavy because of the hexagonal top. I wish they’d change up their designs now as they’re so dated.

JonnyBadass

If this has better longevity it would be a 10. But it’s still a 9 despite only lasting 4-5 hours. Perfectly blended. Classy, warm and sensual, yet somehow fresh, clean and versatile. A masterpiece.

brwarren83

It's OK but does not grab much attention. It's a versatile fragrance that can be worn to work, casually, or to a formal occasion. Quite subtle, in my opinion, and will not offend anyone. If someone gets close to you, they'd probably like it, but it does not project much for me. It's not bad but this will probably be my first and last bottle of it.

Kjordan441

For a well kept gentleman. The quintessential, understated office fragrance. You will smell like you belong in the boardroom.

RareEll69

why doesnt this last longer? its soooo goood

Fraggylover21

Its yvessaintlaurent Y edt or edp but without that beer start, its like gvenchy gentleman and jean paul le male le parfum, but instead of a warm fruity start its a really fresh start similar to ysl Y edt & edp without a boozy beer scent then when it drys it gets real woody with freshness just like the 2 fragrances i mentioned

Muskyflower

@Sam Smith99
Tested this today at Sephora.
Did a couple of sprays and then walked out.
2 1/2 hours later and I am definitely getting the swimming pool reference (not necessarily a bad smell, but not what I am wanting).

Shame,
This is one of the few fragrances that my nose can actually handle smelling for a prolonged period of time without an asthma attack.

The search continues

sam smith99

The opening is bright alluring, but the dry down smells like a swimming pool to me.

nohlin

I love it, it just became my signature. Starts off fresh and sweet, and dries down very warm. Unfortunately the performance is EXTREMELY weak, so don't be afraid to overspray.

tiago.varela

One of the few designer fragrance that I really love. Smells classy and smooth. Clean and more to the dressy side. For confident guys, since this is not a generic sweet fragrance, but has a mysterious and polish vibe to it. Starts a bit sharp and somewhat synthetic, but turns to a more warm woody smell. My SO absolutely loves this one on me. Not offensive an can be used in every occasion. Have received many compliments with this one. I wear it for years now. I wear it for work, day dates and while travelling (I travel a lot for work by plane). Will always be part of my collection.

Siurkus

I love this fragrance. It is a very soft, citrus sweet fragrance that comes off as classy. It smells like you walked into an expensive designer store at the mall to me. This would be one of my favorite fragrances except for that the performance almost ruins it. I can apply this fragrance and after about an hour or two I struggle to find it. I also have found that after like 20 minutes the fragrance is not noticeable to others. Unless you have smelled this fragrance and are ok with the lack laster performance, I would not buy unless you can find it for a discount or during a sale.

NamertBaykus

Everything about this fragrance except the performance is perfect. It has fruity notes, citrusy notes, spicy/aromatic notes and they are all perfectly blended but my favorite part is the classy vetiver that is combined well with the other notes and really shines. I don't understand why most comments overlooked the vetiver aspect. It's just high quality. Regardless, I should also add that this scent is very versatile indeed. You could rock this one on any casual office day or on a date. If only it performed a little bit better...

NoirRGV

Granted my bottle is from 2017 but as smooth as this is, it lasts forever so I can't understand some of the reviews that it doesn't last long. This is classy and casual all in one. Out of many bottles that I own this is easily top 5

taxdoctor

Smooth and polished masculine. I’m not the biggest fan of vetiver however, and its sharp appearance in L’Homme seems distracting, but that may just be me. Spray it in the morning and it’ll completely vanish by your lunch break, convenient you don’t like fragrance interfering with the taste of food.

Aggy 4

One of those you read a lot about. I’ve tried it late to the game and it’s all a bit “meh”. Reminds me of something else I’ve had and I can’t put my finger on - possibly nothing specific, just that it is fairly generic/lots of fragrances have copied this scent profile.

It also smells a bit harsh to me - like going into a perfume/makeup shop and there’s a bit of a stingy cosmetic smell that hits you. That’s not to say this is bad or poorly blended - it isn’t.

There’s just something there I don’t really like. Could be how the violet works with everything, not sure. I don’t hate it, but I wouldn’t wear it much.

irunoncoffee

Fantastic classic cozy cold weather scent.

It's crazy how different the longevity is on this one vs. la Nuit. This one gets me 8-12 hours easily - and while I do prefer how la Nuit smells, I do think this one is better suited for everyday/office wear.

bbcmachine

great blind buy can wear anytime anywhere projection aint crazy but just the right ammount for someone to take a whiff and say damn that smells nice. longevity is also great bout 10 hours u do go nose blind to it tho

Multiple women said they love the smell of it.

edit smell lasts very long on clothes couple sprays in hoodie and that shi will do its magic for weeks

Yashar_D

This is a modern masterpiece and easily the best compliment puller I've worn so far. It's crafted very precisely, to the point that not a singular note stands out, but they rather all work together to bring about quite a pleasant scent. Almost the perfect mixture of sweet and citrus.

I just wish the longevity was better...

Makes for a great blind buy or gift as well.

Dan33Ledford

This is a great all around, anytime, anywhere fragrance. Very soft but masculine scent. Its definitely a great everyday or dumb reach fragrance.

Its soft enough that you can overspray without bothering anybody, but still maintains a great composition. I recommend about 6 or 7 sprays but you would be safe doing more.

Personally I get a bergamot/ginger/soft linen opening with the ginger, which is extremely faint, being more present in the middle. The base dry down is woody vanilla that is pretty faint but still attractive.

Overall, this is one of my favorite fragrances but I wish it lasted longer and had a heavier sillage. While it's not the most expensive fragrance, I still feel like it is a little bit overpriced.

tdgalin

Recently got a 100 ml, 2018 batch. ITS SOO GOOD, performance is at least 5 hours, projection solid 2 hours. I'm a lucky guy

derFuzzy

Very clean, versatile ginger-tonka soapy fragrance. There is nothing to dislike, nothing sticks out. An easy ‚dumb reach‘ for office or daily wear. It‘s the favorite of my wife (when i wear it). But warning disclaimer: Its performance is abysmal, bordering on criminal. Of my 40 fragrances, this is really the weakest i have. So ethereal and faint, you must heavily overspray it, or it‘s non-detectable after 1 hour. And it‘s almost never really discounted, typical price 70-80€/100ml, contrasting with the non-existing performance equals a bad ratio.

krnsniper01

This was one of my very first fragrances for my collection.

I didn't know better and sprayed this in summer.
Please DO NOT EVER spray this in S/S as it is cloyingly sweet.

I wish I knew better to spray this in winter and in moderation.

I never tried any of the flankers but this is elegant scent.
Only thing is that I wish this was less sweet.

This is too good! Great for any situation and you can go heavy on the trigger with this one without offending anybody. You wouldnt think this has been around for almost 2 decades because it doesnt smell dated at all.
I love it and people around me love it. You cannot go wrong with this one.

JKeto

I went to a local store to grab some butter, and after the checkout line a woman said to me that she liked the fragrance I was wearing. The fragrance in question was YSL L'Homme that had funnily enough stayed in my hoodie from the day before when I tested it at a store. I might just have to buy a bottle now!

sergbkp

So much rambling around bad performance of this fragrance, that it's just ridiculous. I've got 2021 formulation and it lasts during the whole working day (8 hours).

Afc_Croatian

YSL L'Homme has to be one of the safest, cleanest, appealing designer fragrances on the market to this day.

That ginger opening is arguably the best use of ginger on the market, followed by the subtle pepper and spices, giving up fragrance buying for the past month has made me appreciate my collection more and I find myself coming back to this one frequently.

L'Homme is incredibly powdery and clean: this is what I imagine you would smell like after cleansing your entire body with the world's best skin cleaning products followed by the use of high-end makeup. (the makeup vibe comes from the powdery vibe IMO)
Buy this for yourself, buy it for the office, buy it to feel clean, where it lacks longevity, it makes up for in its scent.

9/10

Candyandy

Very clean, a bit powdery and a bit citrusy. It has a hint of sweetness but isn't sweet. Very restrained and inoffensive. I detect cedar when I look for it. It's not the strongest performer but I think it doesn't really want to be. I'm not sure when I'd personally wear it because of the low performance but I think it would work for people who can't get away with wearing a fragrance that projects more (like a serious office or on a train where you're going to be close to people).

JoshMonkey

Not for the insecure boy that don't have a proper fitted suit in their wardrobe. I'm not gatekeeping but this isn't a clubbing powerhouse. There are better fragrances for that. This fragrance is unique, subtle, and makes people want to dig their nose into your neck to smell you. Not recommended for people that but what YouTube tells them to. For those people, quit reviewing this. It's an edt with cedar and ginger. It isn't going to last longer than 5 hours max on most people's skin but the 6.8 ounce bottle can be bought at a decent price so you can spray twice as much over a wider area of skin or simply reapply it in the afternoon. This layers perfectly with it's younger sibling La Nuit. Another fragrance that makes your SO want to get closer and snuggle up to you. Something she can't do if you're wearing Versace Eros or Paco Gold. If you're new and afraid of what others think of you or you're unconfident and think this will make the girl you're afraid to make eye contact with across the bar approach you then look elsewhere.

Apache1830

Should have chosen this one instead of LNDH, less hyped but better in the current formulations than LNDH who is a mess now

Uplifting airy elegant fragrance

9/10

Edit: too weak, not worth a bottle

Tony Shades

A more balanced and versatile woody spicy aromatic option than the more popular La Nuit. Sadly overlooked nowadays because of the larger interest in the Nuit spinoff. Definitely a signature all-year-round worthy fragrance with style.

chrisk252

Classy, versatile, woodsy, slightly sweet scent. The vibe reminds me of Allure Homme EDT original...not quite as classy or creamy, but similarly bright but cozy. Very nice, but not super unique. I'd wear it regularly if I had a full bottle.

Scent: 7 / Sillage: 6 / Longevity: 6

SupermanEcstacy

Such a gorgeous scent. The profile is subtle and not arrogant or loud. This is for a summers day (or sunset) with a cool breeze when you're wearing a white shirt and blazer. It's a masterpiece, but unfortunately suffers the fatal curse of all YSL fragrances and that's poor projection and Silage.

id1323

Clean, smooth, spicy, has the freshness to it, but not that summery citrus fresh. I also get very slight sweetness, just enough to make this fragrance have a little bit of everything which turns it into an all you need frag. I feel it would fit almost any occasion and time of year, daytime spring is where it shines brightest in my opinion, it could be a little underwhelming during winter time, but it still kinda works (indoors event maybe). I blind bought it and it instantly became a favourite. Its only drawback is it lacks projection, longevity is moderate - just enough to last a workday but it sits close to the skin for the most time. Personally I don't see this as a weakness since the fragrance's character is so smart and elegant and it would only seem natural that it's a bit more silent and considerate of other people's personal space.

10/10 fragrance

BigHomieSmellsGood

This may be the best smelling fragrance of all time, the performance is just blah though. Regardless, heaven in a bottle.

VickeyVic

A classic scent, perfect for everyday wear. Can fit well in any seasons or weather. Doesn't have a lot of range though, sticking to the skin all the time pretty much.

Nauticus9

Smooth and elegant. Versatility is inevitable. It could be your everyday scent, and it is classy enough to wear to special occasions.

Bolle Banan

Super nice and intimate. Panty dropper in all seasons and occasions except cold winter!

C.P.71

If you want better performance etc...then get a batch that is 2015 or older! Your welcome

SmegmaJohn

My only scent for 5 years... But recent years
formulas, has such bad performance that it's a deal breaker.
Such a shame!

Also my interest in perfumes has risen,so that also be a contributing factor

Poccha

Amazing & sexy scent. I somehow rated this more than La Nuit de L'homme. The only downside about this perfume is its below par longevity & sillage, but i can just overspray it. One of the best of YSL.

EliThePoopy

This scent is very nice , just straight up clean , smells a little outdated but this is still a good pick up for a fresh spicy fragrance. I just wish there was a sweet note in here but other than that , highly recommend trying this fragrance. The longevity is moderate as well as the sillage.

jlog23

This is quite simply one of the most pleasant scents I’ve ever smelled.

TheLanciaFan

I wore it today at the office.
This fragrance is so politically correct that ends being really boring.
Neither sweet, nor fresh, nor harsh, nor awful, nor charming…
It is… nice, and thats it.

Manny44

I'm wearing what I can only assume is a newer formulation after not having this for over a decade and it smells great. Even better than I remember frankly ( it's creamier than I remember). So far it's projecting, we'll see about the longevity but the opening is still so special and not out of date in the slightest that I wouldn't mind respraying. Hoping for 4-5 hours *fingers crossed*

djigoio

For me, it kinda tries to do what Channel Homme Sport does, but with little twist of Ginger Chai infusion to it.

At first is a bit dry, then on the drydown the tonka helps to make it smooth and makes a really comforting combination with the ginger and citrics. Let it settle before you judge.

On my skin is weak tho. I would hardly expect anyone noticing it unless it's sprayed heavily or in close encounters

It's okay, and kinda unique, which is weird for YSL fresh frags imo

Stoopid Phresh

Smells like an updated version of YSL Opium for men-
This is so amazing!

morejmh

Clean, well-rounded, and unisex. I love pairing it with Escentric Molecule 01 or Tom Ford Ombré Leather. The first time I smelled this on someone, I ordered it for myself immediately.

madamefelissa

I am a woman who, these days, prefers a lot of men's fragrances, and this one is an off-the-charts delight! It's fresh yet earthy, the ginger and lemon, the vetiver, the violet leaf, everything all working together in harmony, like the great fragrances of yesteryear. Suitable for all seasons, day or night, but if you want something heavily sexy, gentlemen, you might prefer this as a daytime scent and grab something heavier at night. Maybe one of the other iterations. I can't imagine this bothering anyone in an office environment. I plan to wear this sample myself, My own gentleman doesn't get this one in his little sample basket on the dresser. Not sharing. :)

bigc0

Good floral-soapy smelling, not something that Wows me but smells clean. I smell mostly violet/flowery and a bit of cedar. Smells unisex leaning slightly masculine from the woody notes.
Overall 6.5/10 maybe 7/10

Phil413

A true YSL masterpiece in my opinion. Just wish it performed longer.
The scent is an 11/10.

Coffee King

The first time I've bought a bottle of this in a couple of years, and what a major disappointment. The smell is still really nice, refined, sweet and spicy. Performance....I always seem to criticise YSL for performance, maybe it's my skin, but I get two hours from it, and then it's basically gone. The last bottle of l'homme de la nuit was much better than it was a few years ago, this one though, performance was horrendous.

mwtx

Before I got into fragrance heavy, this was the only scent I wore for like 3 or 4 years straight.

It’s very versatile smells really pleasant and unoffensive. Def thrives in warmer weather though.

I can’t describe the scent or pick up the notes well, but I just think of something clean and sweet.

The performance is very bad though like everyone else has said. Don’t expect to get more than a couple hours of any type of projection from this. I had my bottle for a long time and it never “macerated” or got any better. If you need something very casual yet somewhat elegant, that lasts a couple hours you should like this.

Despite the poor performance it’s a personal classic to me because I wore it so much, got a new bottle and it still smells the same and it smells good.

poppybois

🔸🔸🔸 Summary 🔸🔸🔸
It's bright, citrusy, sweet, warm spiciness in a bottle. A feel-good fragrance that's best during a casual day in spring and summer. L'Homme is my absolute favorite way to give any outfit a nice sprinkle of elegance and luxury. The two things you MUST accept before you can love YSL L'Homme - it smells like a blend of accords rather than any one note, and it has less than ideal performance in hot weather.

🔹🔹🔹 Gender 🔹🔹🔹
I'm kind of surprised that the Gender votes are mostly male. To me it's very unisex if not barely leaning male. Growing up, almost all the women in my life wore perfumes with bergamot and violet notes. I loved how those fragrances smelled every time but they felt undeniably feminine and not something I'd be wearing. YSL L'Homme captures the spirit of those perfumes I loved to smell, but in a way that doesn't feel inherently feminine. When I wear it, I think that's how it resonates with women too. It initially calls back to their own bright perfumes, but they love the smell regardless and don't think twice about if a man should wear it.

🔹🔹🔹 Smell 🔹🔹🔹
It's bergamot, citrus, some woods, and a nice touch of vanilla and tonka bean, all presented through a warm spicy lens. It's not a "clean/fresh" category fragrance, but it is fresh and clean. It has vetiver that sits on the skin and develops the fragrance into a yummy bright musk. It's sweet and a small percentage of people might find it cloying. The sweetness mainly has upsides though. In 105 degree Texas weather the sweetness mixes perfectly when you inevitably break a sweat, and keeps you smelling *surprisingly* pleasant. For me, I mostly pick up the accords rather than individual notes. That's what I'd like potential buyers to know about this fragrance - you're not really buying any standout notes, you're buying a very fine blend of the accords. Other reviewers here say the same thing, it's definitely something to keep in mind.

🔹🔹🔹 Performance 🔹🔹🔹
You have to spend time with this one to get performance out of it. Longevity is moderate and sufficient for all day, especially sprayed on clothes. On a 70 degree spring day, I usually spray around 6 times for 3-4 hours of moderate sillage. On a 100 degree summer day here in Texas? I'm going with ~10 sprays on my skin/clothes before I step outside. That sounds excessive, but it reflects one of the biggest drawbacks of YSL L'Homme - the heat cuts through the sillage almost immediately. If you live in a hot climate, the performance will simply always be below average. That said, I still love it! I just overspray, half for my skin and the other half for my clothes.

aaronmy

This smells nice. It's quite strong for maybe 2 hours, and then it begins fading on my skin. On clothes, I get whiffs over time for the next about 6 hours, and then it disappears. I think this gives a moderate projection on my skin. This is an alright fragrance. I like how it smells, and for how it performs I believe it's fine. Everything doesn't have to be a powerhouse.

httrung32

In tropical climate, YSL L’Homme performs extremely well, it projects like crazy in first two hours with a fresh and sweet scent of soothing bergamot, slightly spicy ginger and black pepper. After that, in the next 3-4 hours, it dials down the projection to moderate; the spicy bergamot scent becomes less pronounced in place for the sweet and creaminess tonka bean and hint of earthy vertiver. I love this scent so much, every time I wear it, I just feel calm and confident. Everybody loves this fragrance, I got a lot of notice from others and mostly positive attention! 🤭

ramanshweta

This is probably a perfume where I could not smell a single note. Literally nothing! Thank God it was a sample which i got when I bought a full bottle of Libre from the YSL store. Surprised how it has good ratings. I literally sprayed 2 vials on my husband but still it was so mild.

evnchrist

Can anyone smell this scent? Could not even tell you one single note of it from what I tried at the shops.

puffinsauce

Pleasant and invigorating. An excellent fresh spicy ginger and citrus with tonka bean sweetness in the drydown. Performance is minimal, about 4 hours on me. Very light projection but not too cloying if oversprayed.

pilotdc

Creamy gingery tonka with a spritz of citrus. Really pleasant but doesn't perform well on me. Good one for close quarter situations.

BromeisterBryce

I went to pick up some YSL Y and the cashier sent me home with a sample of this in the EDP and EDT. I was surprised by how much I loved it considering I am mainly a fresh and aquatic fragrance lover. I generally don't like warm, spicy, or sweet scents. But this is the exception. It's somehow perfectly warm, fresh, and woody all at the same time. it's such a well rounded scent that it's really hard to pick up individual notes. I would describe the smell as comforting fresh. Like freshly washed cashmere - I know that's not an actual smell but it just gives me that feeling. For me it hits with this warm (not spicy) cedar and Tonka smell but then is supported by these dry, clean, citrusy notes - not bright citrus but dry citrus. It's one of those scents that every time i get a whiff of myself I just want to keep smelling it. My wife loves this one on me too. I know a lot of people consider this a spring summery scent but for me it leans more fall and winter. I personally think the sillage is quite strong on this. And Longevity is about 6 hours. All pretty good. This is a nonoffensive scent that you could safely buy for yourself or as a gift. That does not mean it doesn't have personality though. The only fragrance I could somewhat compare it to is Burberry for men. They don't smell the same but they have similar "feels" to them meaning they both sort of have that warm, fresh, woody thing going for them.

NewMan110522

This is in the running for my go-to office fragrance. It's classy, but not old fashioned in the negative way. It's subtle, but not invisible.

As I was looking for something to potentially replace my bottle of Mont Blanc Explorer, I asked myself: "If Cary Grant were still alive today, what fragrance would he wear for everyday?" And L'Homme by YSL fits that bill.

I feel confident and composed with this scent on. I could wear this all year round!

smellitonme

Bollie - your face is overrated. Kidding.. but what do you mean by it's just a scent? That's quite possibly the stupidest thing I've ever heard.

YSL L'homme is a crowd pleaser... It's extremely versatile and ladies love this juice, fact.

bollie619

Extremely overrated. If i had to choose wearing this or nothing I would choose nothing, it's not sexy, its just a scent.

CreepyKid

L'Homme opens with an extra dry ginger and piercing violet note. The peppery spices and citrus make themselves known after a minute or two adding warmth and a traditional masculine feel. As the fragrance lingers around a while it takes on a sweeter accord. The dry down is almost powdery with clean violet and mild spicy ginger remaining in the background and a faint whisper of something woody appearing. I find the projection lasts roughly two to three hours from three sprays on a shirt. It's then an intimate scent perfect for close encounters. Longevity is good for such a light fragrance, I can still smell it on clothing after an entire day. Overall I enjoy L'Homme but personally prefer L'Homme L'Intense edp because it has better performance and I simply adore the scent more.

TjSmellsGood

Just realized I haven't left a review of this wonderful scent. I really like this one, not quite "love" it but it's just such an easy scent to wear. It's very inoffensive for one, and very sophisticated at the same time. It's fresh, very citrusy, and mildly spicy. Lemon, ginger, and spices up front and woody vetiver in the back to balance it out. It's very very lightly sweet, not enough to really be labeled as a sweet scent though. I'd call it a dried candy lemon and ginger scent, to summarize. Great for cooler and warmer weather, but not super hot or cold. Not going to blow you away, but will have you pleasantly noticing yourself hours later nonetheless. Silage is intimate to moderate and the longevity is fairly long, though after a few hours that silage is not nearly as large.

I give this one an 8/10, it's a pretty solid scent but the versatility and inoffensive nature of it makes it a great every day scent.

Prance!

I have a love/hate relationship with this fragrance, it smells INCREDIBLE.

The ginger, bergamot mixed with the other spices is so beautiful.
Without sounding bias I honestly believe this is one of those fragrances you can wear at any occassion, at any event and people will like it. You could spray the whole bottle on yourself and I don't even think people would care because it is very safe and people-pleasing.

Scent: 8.5/10 ✔️😍

Now let's get to the performance/projection.
For me, this thing SUCKS Like BRUH. The most garbage performance I've ever worn and for a $100+ perfume you bet It's annoying. The projection is about half an armslength for about 20 minutes and then it collapses into a skin scent.

Performance: 3/10 ❌
Projection: 4/10 ❌

Ok Prance, so WHY would you recommend this to anyone?
Because it is great for close quarter conversations! Like watching movies with friends, or a little more intimate type of activities where someone is close to you. This is the "let's cuddle" fragrance. Despite It's lack of projection and performance, being close with someone will keep this fragrance lasting a lot longer and you can always reapply as much as you like without it being offensive.

cezabedir38

Nice smell I wish it would be little lasting long. but its 7/10 pretty good

pixel_junkie

Performance is nonexistent but smells amazing.

sigginator06

Prominent ginger and a light sweet freshness.
Has the vibe of Boss Bottled EdT but in a way that it feels more like a gentleman's scent.
Solid designer stuff. Nothing that gets me crazy though.

jarno1208

I like it. Very safe and well blended scent. High quality. Ginger and citrus notes mainly. Great for spring weather and day wear for office.

tyleam

L'Homme by YSL is fresh, aromatic, and inoffensive. It blends so well that I can't pick up individual notes. That being said, if I smell this on someone else, I don't think I'd recognize it right away. Overall, it is a great fragrance for everyday use in my opinion.

Alan2004

Beautiful scent can never go wrong with it. Amazing for summer and sunny day.

518quinn

this shit is great. very unique and i'd go as far as to say unisex as well. the fucking ginger and basil notes holy shit.
nose-catching but not overpowering or offensive. i see people complaining about sillage but they can respectfully fuck themselves. it's fine and i think it's better that it isn't so in your face.

overall 5/5 you could wear this each and every day.

eileensheats

This is actually one of my favorite fragrances - a mainstream men's cologn that doesn't smell like axe body spray and is actually quite spicy! I think the reason I can pull this off is because I'm a pretty feminine woman, and when I wear it I don't smell how you expect me to smell, so it gives a bit of an edge. On a man though, I think it smells a little basic.

XOXO_marcel

A slightly spicy, gingery citrus. Likable from the start, and it just gets better and better. A solid choice for daytime wear that is unlikely to offend anyone. Like all YSL fragrances, this is super high-quality and it smells expensive. A little too much lemon for my taste, but it is really nice all the same.

Parrfumerie

One of my very favorite perfumes and my first review here, of course it had to be YSL l'homme!

I bought my first l'homme around 2009, the batch was fantastic, citrusy, and dry down was warm, spicy, musk, ginger and a bit vanilla-ish, quite good sillage and you knew you were wearing it, it gave me confidence and had me feeling relaxed and simply very good smelling.

I came into a party once, about 40 minutes after applying it, and I remember greeting this girl, just a quick hug, and two seconds later she pulled me back and was like "wow, what is that!?", "How's it even legal to smell this good?" 😂
My batch from 2009 was 10/10

Then, I purchased my second bottle in 2021, and the smell was completely different, very weak, still good(of course), but more ginger and citrus in the beginning that would disappear quickly, after 30-40 minutes just a vague watery skin scent. Sillage non-existent and the warm round spiciness somehow didn't feel as cozy. How can a fragrance change so much in quality and performance?!

Still, forever a favorite of mine, 8/10 overall

thullr

Amazing fragrance. Use for daytime wear. Nice fresh bottle 2020 batch. I would be happier if it lasted longer

Onlineturk

Nice Fragrance but it has the same pro/long as CK one, which is 26-27 euros 200ml

La Nuit Noir

1st fragrance I ever had and definitely an iconic designer scent that everyone should have!

Fresh citrus opening but with some real warmth and depth that makes it perfect for nearly every situation. Great as a casual signature scent or no-brainer reach, but works best in warmer weather in the day.

A very sensible office/formal scent that everyone will like, but could also be worn in all sorts of situations and work just as well due to the versatility this has. The citrus opening is done so well that it is deep & warm enough to set it apart from other fragrances that lean more watery exotic fresh, but this stays clean and uplifting.

Projection isn't great, but it is more than a skin-scent, and the longevity is average or better.

MaestroElDiablo

a gift for European folks, i see a Vintage One on the app Vinted just added this morning...

2011 Batch First formulation 100ml

60 eur if i recall

take it before its too late

MaxBeijer

My favourite scent. This fragrance smells wonderful.
Too bad the performance is just not good. The opening could be a bit harsh, but later on the scent becomes much more soft. It is a wonderful fragrance with bad performance. I mainly use it as an office scent. If you want to impress others, get another one since this one ain't gonna do the trick.

Eple Drikken

there are not that many 10/10 scents but this is one of them. jesus. no words.

britishpetro2

this scent is so weak, i didnt know how it smells. u need to shower in it then you can smell it. waste of money

Username_goes_here

Bought a bottle of this in 2014

Have almost used it all. Really like the stuff safe and it’s a very clean smell

Laliqua

Yves Saint Laurent L'Homme - Just beautiful scent. Fresh and sweet at the same time, very versatile. Safe to blind buy and you'll never regret it. It just lacks in performance.

Scent: 7/10
Longevity: 5.5/10
Sillage: 5.5/10

Cinema Paradiso

I got this in 2009 as a birthday present from my wife. I liked the scent but i couldn't wear it back then as it seemed to strong and unlike anything i knew. ⏩ 13 years and i still have about 40ml out of 60ml left. The scent grew on me or i grew up to appreciate it. Fresh like mint leaves for the first hour, guess it's the ginger everyone mentions, it's syrupy yet very clean and bright. It's sweetness isn't so obvious to me, my wife finds it sweet yet refreshing, i still want to smell it on someone else to get the right 3D perception as from my skin i find it hard to read.
2009 batch:
Scent 9/10
Performance 6/10 (6to8 hours)

a2zbeats

Purchased a sample vial from MicroPerfumes. I've gotta say, this is an absolute gentleman's cologne. Truly classy, mature. Starts off very powdery but later dries down into a citrusy wood smell, almost similar to Eros but without the apple or ambroxan and a little more cedarwood. The sillage is mild, it sits very close to the skin and doesn't project very far... but if someone gets close to you it always attracts compliments. It lasts about a work day, 8 hours or so. Not incredible, but not short lived either. If you dislike loud, shouty fragrances and want something that's very subtle and mature, I think this is definitely a great option. I definitely picture this as kind of a "suit and tie" cologne, and if I could find this one at a good price I would probably pick this up for suit and tie occasions. Very good.

9.3/10

Ignitor

One of my not so many loves at first sniff, I tried it at a Douglas and I bought it on the spot. This one smells so good to me that it makes me give zero Fs about the performance. There is something about that fresh spiciness, with a touch of sweetness that just elevates me every time I wear it out.
It smells like the man that I want to be, like the best version of myself.

notlawyer

People who really like fragrances will hate this, but I love layering L'Homme with another "boring" scent; Blue de Chanel. It makes me feel extremely confident, I like how l'homie is a skin scent basically after an hour or two. I wear this for me and my partner, I don't really want people at work to have to smell me.

L'Homme got me into the fragrance game and I think its still one of my top favorites.

4dri3n

My father treated me to this years ago, let me pick out my first 'real' perfume from a big perfume chain store. I remember choosing L'homme over more stereotypically masculine scents for its sweeter character. I swear there was a hint of apple in this and I see I'm not alone. After a while of daily wear, though, it shifted towards a sickly sort of sweetness for me. I finished the bottle but so far haven't been tempted to revisit.

torturedsoulboy

Update: Returned this to Macy's cause it's such an inconsistent scent and about half the time I detect some flowery notes that smell like pee. I feel like the chemicals separate and each spray is different. Most of the time it smells like a cacophony of the notes listed. This could have been a big winner but there is something wrong with it for sure. Maybe I got a bad batch.

atifkhan60

I avoid buying YSL because of their tendency to dilute or change the original fragrance and people will just discuss old vs new.....it's unprofessional and deceptive. It's the same experience that I had with la Nuit de l homme, diluted and useless good fragrance.

atifkhan60

I bought a large bottle of this fragrance.
It's the best example of try before you buy.
A fragrance is meant to be smealt, and this one is gone as soon as you put on......
I regret buying this one...

Yessamin

A light and mild, yet charismatic fragrance with citrus, ginger and basil flower notes.
EdT (the cap I have seen is gunmetal, not white as in this picture).

Duftfreak11

The best fragrance ever created. 10/10

MidwesternGothic

Classy, understated. Lemony, spicy, woodsy––with each being light, not heavy. There’s an airy quality to it. Well-balanced: the lemony is countbalanced by the spicy and the spicy is counterbalanced by the woodsy. Versatile: good for any occasion, season, weather, or time of day. Downsides? A bit on the weak side in terms of projection and longevity. Also, while not wildly expensive, not cheap.

PhillyFresh

Good scent, it only lasts 1-2 hours maximum.

It smells just like all the other YSL homme perfumes. A little fresher, but the same DNA. It's quite boring, but it doesn't smell bad. Nothing to go out of your way for.

mevans

L'Homme is nice. Masculine, clean, doesn't stand out but it's an easy daily wear fragrance. Sits fairly close to the skin but it's noticeable if someone is close. This is a good work scent and is pleasant enough for most to appreciate. I would choose something more memorable for an evening out though.

Staretsi

Delightful opening. Scent is gone in no time, though.

7.5/10

filiplerch

I am a niche sucker, but this one is really good. Fresh ginger with citruses, but still elegant formal, yet causal. Well build with top notes, middle and basenotes. Complete frag to recommend to everyone. Signature worthy. 10/10

benja

Sweet, below average cologne!

jongulosmells

m_granoff is this a joke

m_granoff

It’s a great scent but for some reason it’s so strong on me like people can smell me from across the whole room. If anyone knows why or what to do please let me know.

orangelips11

Great intimate fragrance, for date night and cuddle
