Karagoz by Nishane is a Aromatic Fruity fragrance for women and men. Karagoz was launched in 2017. The nose behind this fragrance is Jorge Lee. Top notes are Grapes, Pineapple and Herbal Notes; middle notes are Neroli, Patchouli and Jasmine; base notes are Vetiver, Agarwood (Oud) and Amber.

“For the collection named as “SHADOW PLAY” launched in 2017, NISHANE has got the main inspiration from the traditional shadow play which is also known as shadow puppetry, an ancient form of storytelling and entertainment which uses flat articulated cut-out figures (shadow puppets) which are held between a source of light and a translucent screen or scrim. The cut-out shapes of the puppets sometimes include translucent color or other types of detailing. Various effects can be achieved by moving both the puppets and the light source. A talented puppeteer can make the figures appear to walk, dance, fight, nod and laugh.

KARAGOZ (meaning “black eye” in Turkish) and HACIVAT (shortened in time from "Hacı İvaz" meaning "İvaz the Pilgrim"), ZENNE (the common name of the generally beautiful and flirty women featuring in various plays) are the lead characters of the traditional Turkish shadow play, popularized during the Ottoman period and then spread to most nation states that comprised the Ottoman Empire and most prominently in Turkey and Greece. The creative directors Mert Güzel and Murat Katran dreamed of bringing the legend of Karagoz & Hacivat into the today’s world. Under the inspiration of their playful characters, the perfume trilogy has been created together with the perfumer Jorge Lee. Just like the theme of these shadow plays, the main objective of NISHANE was to emphasize the contrasting interaction of the people that we can see in every single culture.

HACIVAT is a tribute to elegance, competence, and love of art.

ZENNE is a tribute to beauty, self-confidence, and flirtation.

KARAGOZ is a tribute to wittiness, straightforwardness and sincerity” — press release of the brand.

"Karagoz" by Nishane is a fragrance that embodies the spirit of drama and intrigue. From the Turkish word meaning "black eye," this scent casts a captivating spell from the first spritz. The opening notes burst forth with the sweetness of ripe figs, instantly transporting you to a sun-drenched orchard, while the spice of cardamom adds an element of mystery and allure. As the fragrance evolves, the heart reveals layers of complexity, with the rich, smoky aroma of leather intertwining with earthy patchouli, creating a sense of depth and sophistication. And in the base, warm amber and creamy vanilla envelop you like a comforting embrace, leaving a lasting impression that lingers in the air long after you've gone. "Karagoz" is more than just a fragrance—it's a story waiting to unfold, a journey through the shadows and light, where every scent evokes a different emotion and every moment is filled with possibility. Wear it, and let yourself be swept away on a whirlwind of adventure and discovery.

renomen43

I don't understand the rating (3.78) here. This thing deserves 4+! It's just amazing, how good the grape note is that goes along with the drydown.First it gets sweeter and then greener, woodier but still, the sweet and kind of dark grape is there at the front, dominating the scent. It's not overly sweet, just the right amount of sweetness all the way through. I don't think there is anything similar to this beautiful, high quality scent. Very masculine. It's not the typical niche profile, a bit of designer attributes can be found because it's a bit aromatic which is perceivable from the beginning. Still, it's very unique how it's blended. I got this for €100 and for this much money, you get a lot of value. It lasts forever, projects like a monster. I don't see anybody talking about this at all, this is like a hidden gem because Hacivat took the hype train and while it's also very good, Karagoz too deserves the recognition.

LawrenceZzz

I don’t know if it’s just me or whatnot but this smells similar to Le Labo Another 13 and I live for it!

faris_fauzee

This needs a few full wearing to understand what is it really about. I am completely agreed with some of the comments here bringing about this is bright and dark at the same time. That dark herbal woody oud (not skanky/funky at all), green grassy earthy vetiver, dark grape and ambery sweetness balanced out with this beautiful bright neroli, white floral and juicy tart pineapple. The neroli note play a big role in the dry down.

Open out with this dark grape, wine like with tart juicy pineapple, then the dark herbal oud together with that green grassy earthy vetiver start to slowly emerged in the middle. On the dry down came this nice neroli together with white floral note. That fruity dark grape and tart pineapple remains throughout the lifetime of the fragrance in the background. Transition happens beautifully here.

Might be polarizing scent by most, something to do with that green grassy earthy coupled with the herbal undertone quality. This does not get enough attention, a beautiful unique underhyped release by Nishane.

My third Nishane acquisition after Sultan Vetiver and Hacivat. With Nishane, the price you paid and what you get together with it is really worth it in my humble opinion. The bottle presentation, the box, the beautiful postcard and the performance came with the juice.

I love this.

emil1724

nope. Herbal, super fruity/sweet with bitter vetiver and soapy neroli. i agree with the comment below, that it does smell like a mix of black orchid and erba pura.

the herbal, bitter fruity mix smells like stale rhubarb, soapy neroli, and with the super masculine dirty base it just smells straight up strange and unblended. Definate no

PhonePotato

Sweet, dirty, and earthy. To me that’s the worst combination. I like those elements individually but combined they are just bad and smell like a mess.
To me this smells like Black Orchid mixed with Erba Pura, everything clashes and it doesn’t smell like a real or finished perfume.

This is also too strong for what it’s doing, one spray is overkill. If you’re interested I recommend just getting a decant because you’ll never finish a whole bottle.

SH89

I'm getting lots of cannabis, grape and non-skanky oud. Simple, but well blended.

Not for everybody, but it did grow on me.

Long-lasting with strong projection.
Masculine leaning.

Definitely has similarities to CH Bad Boy Le Parfum

PerfuMartin

It has a smooth, rubber accord whilst remaining pleasant, smooth and fresh. Doesn't project like other Nishane products. Wasn't the grape soda scent I'm after. Has nice herbal and fruit qualities that make it very unique.

Yay_Or_Nay

This one appears to be polarizing- some love it and some absolutely dislike it. I can't comment on anyone's taste or preference, but i can tell you this: this actually is a powerful fragrance. It will last 10+ hours on your skin (several days if sprayed on clothes). As for the scent itself, i have been using it here and there, and don't regret my purchase. Is it a love at first sniff? Absolutely not. Do i hate it? Absolutely not...It is a unique scent that grows on you the more you wear it, and the performance makes you like it more. I wear Hacivat , Ambra Calabria and Wulong Cha from the house way more than i wear this, but this has the best performance between the 4. I would say, try before you buy as you might find it challenging, depending on how advanced your nose is, and how far along your olfactory journey you are. If you are looking for a niche summer fragrance you are guaranteed to like, with good/great performance, here are a few suggestions (some of my favorites):

Parfums de marly: Sedley and/or Greenley
Xerjoff: Decas, Torino21 or Renaissance
Amouage: Beach Hut Man (this has a mint note in it which i love, and didn't even know i would enjoy it in a fragrance)
Maison Francis Kurkdjan: Gentle Fluidity Silver (especially if you work in an office setting)

You can find any of the above at reputable discounters for a decent price (jomashop, fragrancebuy.ca etc)...One that i absolutely love, and reach for the most, however, is from Louis Vuitton (Pacific Chill). You can only buy at an LV store or LV official website, so no discounts, but believe me, it is worth every penny. The scent is to die for, somehow makes me feel light, happy and positive. And if you take your bottle back to LV store, you get to refill for 100 dollars less than a new bottle.

DickersonAK

Bad boy le parfum smells like a clone of this.

Dumbplings

Man I don't understand people.... If a fragrance is too weak people complain, if a fragrance is too strong people complain. People always ask for long performance and this it it.

Tshahb

At Nishane, quality means being as suffocatingly, obnoxiously strong as possible, so that nobody within a 500m radius will escape without a headache and singed nostril hairs, and this is up there as one of the most over-the-top, jarring, nauseating horror-shows of their line.

I don't know who would wear this, but I don't want to be in the same building as them.

shabaaz

It smells like a temple smell

Fragmoneypit

This HIGHLY favors Bad Boy Le Parfum from Carolina Hererra. Much more potent and natural smelling of course.. longevity and performance is incredible. You'd definitely stand out if you wore this!

danajeans

I just love this. It opens with a nearly photorealistic grape, then goes in about 10 interesting and wonderful directions. It's cheerful and brooding at exactly the same time and does both perfectly. Absolutely not a blind buy, and I can see (smell, really) why some people wouldn't care for it - it's complicated and worth the wait (to me).

Yalcin05

A fruity extreme strong and realistic grape with that reflection man drydown... kind a amazing yet another existing profile.. menn ive smelled to much haha.. great fragrNce bright and dark in once.. good performance and unique first hour.. cant understand the hate tough??

Ivan272

amihajlovic

Man.. This stuff is nuclear. This is very unique, I really ike the grape soda note, it's fantastic. This is way better than Hacivat (boring, generic Aventus, CDNIM blah blah). This is a dark, inimitable, CEO smell. Wear this if you want to be noticed, nobody wears this, be disinctive. This is a Sigma Male fragrance!

Ba2siK

Great and strong fragrance, but a bit too generic in my opinion.

Mattlord0

This is a tough fragrance to figure out, it doesn't smell bad really, but I can't imagine why anyone would like to smell like this
What I'm getting is a sweet 'one million cologne' type smell mixed with a very earthy, almost canabis accord.
Not a safe blind buy, so many better options out there.

Enrium

Karagoz is an aromatic masculine scent to my nose, fruity and herbal with a woody-amber undertone. It has a metallic quality that I associate with designer masculine scents, and while it is objectively decent, I find it underwhelming, particularly considering the price. It feels slightly generic, despite being slightly better quality than run-of-the-mill designer releases.

Karagoz is fruity from initial spray, but without any sweetness. The woody-amber accord of the base is evident from the early stages, initially adding a slightly unpleasant synthetic metallic undertone, but it thankfully subsides as the scent settles. The herbal accord becomes more evident as it develops, adding a nice aromatic quality to the fruity opening. Grape, an unusual note, sticks out for me. I always find grape to be quite synthetic as a flavour etc., and this is the case here. Some powdery florals add body, but are quite subtle.

As it develops, the woody-amber comes to the fore. After the synthetic phase, the individual notes can be enjoyed. The oud is soft and woody - there is no skankiness here. There is a muskiness to the amber accord, and some earthiness thanks to the patchouli. Some herbal nuances remain during the drydown - I get a hay-like quality here. It fades to a musky, earthy skin scent. Sillage is strong and longevity is long-lasting. It is a transeasonal masculine scent.

Hacivat is an underwhelming and overpriced masculine scent, not bad overall, but nothing special. More mass-market designer than niche. 3/5.

dcalandy

I didn't like this perfume at all, and I don't even know what specifically about it that I hate. Is it the grape and the oud together? The grape mixed with vetiver? You can tell it's high-quality for sure. It's complex, yes. In fact I can't even categorize it. But it smells like an olfactory experiment gone wrong. Or maybe that's the point? To be polarizing? I've never smelled anything that I wanted to scrub off so hard right after spraying. It's immediately nauseating, like being on a rickety boat in the middle of a storm and you're beside someone who tries to conceal the smell of his vomit-stained shirt by overspraying himself with expensive cologne. I appreciate the artistry, but it's an assault to the senses.

3OS+mXD8ser

DYNABLASTER77 You have not nose for first class perfume and your nose say it all when your signature fragrance is CH Men Carolina Herrera. That is some of the worst fragrance ever made

aabisogun

Can light and heavy coexist in the same fragrance?
Can light and dark coexist in the same fragrance?
The answer is ‘yes’ on both counts.
Karagoz is a wonderful scent, which has a perfect mix of fruit, spice, oud and earth. There is something for everyone, placing it firmly in the unisex category, although it could lean a bit more masculine, while leaning feminine at the same time.
Its various contradictions and long lasting fragrance make it a favourite of mine, and a “must try” for everyone.
Nishane really NAILED this one, and I am almost tempted to make it my #1
Rating: 9.5/10

Dumbplings

Oh this is nice! completely unexpected because I hate oud but this is a fairly nice woody pineapple scent and smells nothing like aventus and those types of fragrances. Actually reminds me of burberry hero but with pineapple and higher quality. And i'd probably say it reminds me a little of creed himalaya like vetiver, woods, bright freshness in the opening. Maybe a little bit of Roja vetiver but without the oakmoss fougere smell to it and more the citrus & vetiver combination you get. Also reminds me of CK defy a little sweet in the opening and dry woods/vetiver in the dry down

Not a clone of any of them just similarities I can pick out with those other fragrances I mentioned. The woody smell is more dry like the woods you'd get in creed fragrances like himalaya & green irish tweed.

Blue hulk

This, to my nose, smells like a niche version of Bad Boy le parfum, but only in the opening. The dry down is a whole different world, Karagoz gets creamier and fruitier , muskier and keeps on pushing beast mode.

acc

Karagoz is a bold and rude masculine character from shadow play. I expected this fragrance to smell masculine and musky before i tried it.
Starts with fruity and slightly dirty woody notes, reminded me of many Hugo Boss and Armani fragrances i have used in 90s. I was afraid that Karagoz would dry down to a generic musky average scent. The opening is very strong and projects massively.
1 hour or so, i was surprised with the great performance. Then a dirty but pleasant floral note came out. This is the part which Karagoz could set itself apart from the designer genre. But still, this is not a lively fragrance like Hacivat. Dries down to some oudy wood accord. Rather soft and shy at the drydown.
I think the composition is well balanced and the notes are harmonious but patchouli and oud could be potentially disturbing.
If you enjoy rather dull and classical leaning mens fragrance with some slight floral twists, you could enjoy Karagoz.

Mdk

Karagyoz is a very interesting scent.
It begins with the delicious and delightful aroma of a grape and pineapple cocktail.
"Oh, so he seems like a pretty hilarious guy," I thought at first.
But a little later the patchouli comes. And oud and vetiver.
After the grapes and pineapples left him, he's calmed down quite a bit. A fragrance like the inside of the forest where the wild grape grows.
And I love the change after this middle, the smoky and serious Karagyoz.

CAMERON LEON

I am not going to complicate it I love this fragrance, its a warm, deep, comforting red grape. I dont know what it is about it but its super comforting and last all day. I really recommend checking it out

I don’t understand the hate, it smells good, fresh and interesting. It’s not something dull or boring.
All reviews mention that it smells like grape soda, but it’s not.
It smells clean and strong, fresh and somewhat fruity and very realistic fruit.
Smells like clean clothes after Lenor softener.
The performance is great, you need just a couple sprays and you’re smelling great full day!
Now in the spring it’s great, but I want to try it also in the summer since it has that fresh side to it.
Got it for a great price in the local store, wish I discovered this house earlier..

Dandy1980

The best perfume from Nishane. I got so many compliments, the best time to wear is spring. Long lasting with strong sillage. Underrated gem. Sadly they don’t have 100 ml bottle.

Jestersrobe

The opening is all grape—think grape soda. Then, it settles down into a dry woody grape scent with almost an incense vibe in the background. I enjoy my bottle, but I enjoy many other Nishane offerings more.

jacopo83

I’m I the only one who has received a 55ML?

AG256

1-2 sprays MAX! This is beast mode, so be careful. I sprayed four times because I was going to be outside and I was so nauseous that I had to go take a shower and change clothes but the smell was still lingered on my skin. It’s not the best choice from the house but it’s not the worst either.

Farrque

White musk, iris and cigarette smoke with a tropical fruitiness (think pineapple) that acts as a curveball to throw you off from trying to pinpoint what genre this belongs to.
Quite pleasant actually, with the iris becoming more and more prominent.
Not a discrete scent performance wise.

Edit: Ok this is just too much. Extremely loud and feels more harsh as time goes on. Think this needs to be a scrubber, unfortunately.

Dina France

The notes do not go with my perception at all. This is what a man can wear when his lady is wearing Illusione for Her by Bottega Veneta. For both, the base is like wax, with tonka, olive and dry woods. I dislike Karagoz for a strong cologne opening and an empty promise of pineapple and grape. Then the drydown has cinnamon lingering around. It may work better on men.

DinaFrance (my review of the brand has just come out on my youtube)

Caldrumr

Nope.
This is a brash and chemical-smelling, basic designer freshie.
Smells like something you would get from Walgreens or the bargain bin at TJ Maxx.
Not good.

El Caballo Blanco

beast mode grape/piña Fanta. Dry down smells great but not like a fanta. Love it

Fragrant Freddy

Chalky bubblegum and vetiver with some semi-sweet supporting accents. This is a chewy scent. I'm so intrigued by it: do I like it? Not really. Do I dislike it. No...I don't think so. It's fruity in the way wax fruits are fruity, and sweet in...uh...the way wax fruits are sweet? Regardless, I can't stop smelling my arm, so I guess that is a plus.

The Swede

Seems to be a Love/hate one! When I feel the grape smell that btw stays long and with oud in drydown that seems to be a strange combination but I like it and I get many compliments when I am wearing this!

DickersonAK

I didn't originally like this one very much but after a few wearings it grew on me. 🤷
I do prefer a few other nishane over this one but this one is still solid

Esna

Jabón zest, jabón zote, jabón foca and ironing starch spray in a Mexican Abarrotes isle. Hours later, you’re out of the soap isle and waltz into the caña, piloncillo, azúcar morena, azúcar granular and azúcar en polvo isle.

Went from hardcore soap to a soft Mancera Instant Crush. Unisex.

IAmStaka

This fragrance is the definitive example why you should never trust either reviewers or even worse - fragrantica comments. I'm sorry, but there's nothing strong or hard or challenging or hard-hitting or rough or loud or whatever y'all been talking about. Karagoz smells like some freshie Carolina Herrera or JPG would make, totally designer, nothing challenging at all.
I pick up the grape, but I don't pick up any excitement or admiration about the scent.
This is definitely overpriced, overhyped, grape soda with no life and no spark to it. I wouldn't buy it, even at 50% off. And no, I didn't test a fake, I tested it in a nishane retailer.

Get JB Silver Scent, its literally a better choice with larger scent bubble and more fizzy and uplifting for 1/10th the price.

In Turkish folklore, Karagoz & Hacivat were equal sides. Well no, Hacivat is still a long-lasting compliment beast summer god of a fragrance, while Karagoz....i'll stop there, because I have nothing nice to say about it.
So long Karagoz, never ever again!

hokieguy95

This was a No for me. Grape scent is not very sweet and is of dark dried fruit resembling a slightly spoiled wine or over ripe fruit. Very dark with a greasy undertone. Sillage and Projection are typical Nishane excellent, but this is not a very pleasing scent or something that I would want to experience or project all day long. Not a crowd-pleasing scent.

Scent: 3/10

Deelecto

There was a time over a decade ago (in Canada at least) that Satsuma-scented Body Shop products were all the rage. A Satsuma gift box was the no-effort gift for all holidays, and you’d know on birthdays, Xmas etc. you’d receive at least one of these, and while you’d be slightly annoyed by the impersonal faddish gift, you’d pretend to be thrilled because you got them the same thing…

I mention it because many Nishanes have this particular sweet fruity scented-soap accord. Karagoz makes it more interesting by layering the scented soap with a vetiver-smoked amber, but I’d say it’s 80/20 fruity soap to smoky amber (and quite linear). Because it automatically triggers my memory of middling gifts from distant acquaintances, I just can’t enjoy this for what it is. But if a smoky soapy fruity scent sounds good, and you happen to not be me, this is worth a try.

Oloriffic

So let me say that I like this a lot, not love, but hard like...but keep in mind that this smells very reminiscent of strong "grape scented dryer sheets"...and I mean that in the nicest (Bounce Sport) way possible...but it does have that vibe...it is undeniable. Saying that...it is smells very adult and clean, and strong, go easy on the trigger, here.

Chrisk1992

Is this being discontinued? Literally impossible to find, and prices are all over the roof…

MQS

This is horrible and stinks. It’s identical to Akdeniz from Unique'e Luxury in the beginning then it’s Beach Hut from Amouage after that.

Mina Abdo

It is very different, I enjoy wearing it.
It is very strong and everyone will notice it.

Gazzap

Bought this recently, my fifth Nishane fragrance. First time I have ever become so loyal to any Fragrance House, I am not a crazy collector with 150 bottles of fragrance.. There seems to be something very special about this house, at least to my nose. Fantastic quality fragrances that tread that path so well between very wearable but very interesting. Karagoz is very unique and little difficult to describe, fruity scent with grapes and pineapple with a warm woody base. It is both bright and dark in one scent, very clever. As with most Nishane it lasts a very long time and you only need a couple of sprays so although its quite expensive it give good value for money (in reality no more expensive then a designer brand that needs twice as many sprays). Its a great fragrance that changes so much over its life that makes it super interesting to wear. Highly recommend you try this one. Another great release from Nishane for me 10/10.

KaliDurga

100% masculine. There's something rough and loud, about it. It's a complex wood scent. It has a spicy undertone to me and is very busy. There are bursts of pineapple and amber but overall, it smells like hair grease. No.

Nadya23

Lfc18921

It would seem me and Nishane have a thing going. I own six of their scents.

Took me a while to appreciate this one but kept getting drawn back to it. Strange grape and jasmine opening underpinned by mossy woodsy notes that eventually (many hours later) take over the fruits.

Lasts all day with ease. Fruity and uplifting during the day and will be still going but warm and woody by the evening.

Sumsar

Opening is easy and smells really really Nice. But Then it does not leave, it sticks to your nose and gets cloying. Drydown smells like a sweaty boy who sprayed axe/lynx all over him. Yuuuuck

dabearjew82

Just have to add someone said that creeds aventus and green Irish tweed are better then havicat and this one has lost their brain. First, this has nothing to do with green Irish tweed, not similar at all. Second, just no ha. Imo nishane beats creed in every measurable category. Let me preface that by saying that I was one creeds biggest fan. The original blend of aventus was one of the best things I've ever smelled. However, they have watered down everything to the point of being unrecognizable. All nishane fragrances are extrait concentration and last waaaayyy longer then any creeds by a mile. Finally, just on smell alone I give the nod to havicat. Deeper and more impressionable imo.

EauDeBaldy

A nice, beast of a fragrance. You do get that grape ( purple grape ) but... something was mentioned to me by someone who is not into fragrance as we all are... it reminded them of Dior's Fahrenheit.

I didn't even think that at all until it was mentioned. Now, I definitely get that vibe from this lol.

So in conclusion, if you like strong, purple grape, a reminder of Fahrenheit ( not identical at all, just a reminder of it subtly ) then you will love this one.

This is a strong like for me, It's not bringing me enough to love it.

Worth checking out. Cool/Cold/Fall/Winter Time.

dmbfaninmass

First impression… got this in a triple feature Nishane fragrance haul from Fragrancebuy along with Hacivat and Wulong Cha and delivered by FedEx at 10:49AM this morning. Having Ani, B-612, and Fan Your Flames in my collection, I was really super stoked to get my nose on these. By 11AM, I had 2 sprays of Hacivat on my right wrist & forearm and 2 of Karagoz on my left.

Wow. Okay, I get the grape soda vibe people talk about. It’s really prominent and smells of grape soda but slightly less sweet, and a tad more deep. Like if you mixed up grape soda with grape juice, maybe? And it almost feels like the pineapple gives it that zesty pop that adds a quality that makes it that fizzy grape scent a grape soda scent. Well done. So it’s gorgeous right? Yes. Yes, indeed, but… Not so quick. That slightly less sweet grape soda has a dark backdrop underlying it. That almost bo scent some mention? I get that vibe too. There’s this dark skankiness in the backside of this one. It’s like you initially smell it and it’s like woohoo young and carefree grape soda gulping. There’s this delicious, less sweet grape soda on the top that’s draped in the background by this funk, this skankiness. It’s not overwhelming. The patchouli and oud are done ever so right. Tweak that up a little more loudly and no way, no how. It’s like a funk that isn’t so nice of you’re surrounded by just that alone. But with the grape soda, it takes that negative funk and turns it into something that makes your head tilt to the side like a dog and think, “this is kinda bad, but in a good bad kind of way.”

Oddly it’s not something that a year or two ago I would have liked, but something now that… I just can’t stop sniffing it. It’s lasted about 11.5-12 hours being able to pick it up now about 4 inches from skin.

I got a 50 ml of each and so far I really regret not buying a 100 ml of Hacivat. This one I’m almost there, but I do wonder how often I’ll want to wear this. I mean, if it’s just me at home, absolutely. If life starts to get more normal with social engagements etc… I’m not sure I’d rock this, and definitely not heavily, around others. I love it and can’t stop sniffing it, yet I have this feeling most would be like “aye yo can you take a step or two back?”

Doc Radio L Ogiste

With Hacivat, Nishane did a somewhat sweeter and slightly fruitier variant of Aventus. With this, they took the same concept to Green Irish Tweed. Both are slightly inferior to their Creed counterparts in my book. Not a terrible scent by any means, but for about the same money as GIT, I'd go with the latter.

A big No…

Love it another repeat. If curious get a decant. Great for all ocasions.😎

-Oud scent with a mint punch to it.
-Linear to my nose. (-)

peter94

Very designery, full bottle HARD pass

Snip

Getting a spiced steak or meaty cumin scent, might smell good on some, smells like strong body odour to me.

activeharley

This smells great, but it also smells 90% similar to Joop Homme Ice… which is $25 and lasts just as long. As much as I like it, I’m gonna have to pass on this one.

LiveAlaska

This is a very interesting scent. Definitely a fizzy grape type smell. I personally think that the whiffs you get in the air smell amazing, but when smelled skin to nose it doesn't smell as good. So I definitely think it is one that leaves am amazing scent trail but definitely not one for cuddling up with.

Aroma Bob

Im lucky to have a district in towm to have discount fragrance stores. When I went to my favorite store they carry lots of Nishane. As soon as I put Karagoz on my skin I loved it, very unique smell so I bought a 50 ml bottle. Very long lasting grapey scent but super unique. I give it a thumbs up. Get a decant and judge for yourself. I decant al the time if im buying a high priced fragrance that I cant sample in stores. I sampled Ganymede and bought a bottle on line. Be a wise shoper.

ZZH

Such an amazing scent. Even great.
For this price tag I was expecting more longevity and sillage, but still a masterpiece!

DanyoTS

I love this perfume.Smells strong and sharp.Longevity 12+ hours with very good sillage! This one is in my top 3 from the brand "Nishane"

Ok read many reviews here n watched you tube vids based on both plus my personal experience

It is a love or hate I can say what it seems to remind me and another person is green Irish tweed mixed with oud n more fruity elements that is strange but that’s what I’m getting n my wife she said what are you wearing I really like it you should keep it.

For me it’s a hate n like longevity is pretty good I can still smell with just two firsts after 5 hours.

Even my daughter says dad what are you wearing that smells good.

My wife also said it reminds her of like 1 million mixed with green Irish tweed.

Me I get two things I get the fruity 1 million Armani Profumo vibe with green Irish tweed

And I also get the grape soda vibe with green Irish tweed from the nozzle it’s a no go on paper n in the air the fruitiness is cool.

If you can get it for a low price why not give it a try

Next I will be trying wulong cha

I already tried n have hacivat n ani

SebastianLaz

I loved it so much on the paper strip that the store was kind enough to decant some for me, I put it on my skin and... Ugh, acidic and harsh, hated it. I totally agree with the comments below that it depends on your skin chemistry and, therefore, this is not a safe blind buy at all. Please test it first!

Dirtyhoody

Really like it. It's dark fruits and wax in a sexy way.

I loved this so much, it was herbal but also quite fresh but also smkoeish

This smells exactly like the inside of my car…

Feels somehow synthetic and makes me dizzy.

Great longevity and silage but not my cup of tea.

Chosen2123

This is love/hate. No in between. And I hate it. Thos smells horrid to me. Do not blind buy.

Sultan3877

Smells like a Semi Slick tires doing a Burnout for one straight hour in a Supercharged Mustang . then you pour some oud and patchouli on the marks on the asphalt. That's what you get
I Like it so much. It's ridiculously unique smell. And that what makes it so special .

Salinas99luis

I love this, unique, gorgeous, last a lot.

It’s the type of fragrance you love or hate, in my case I love it

singhdivjot

Such an underrated scent, people who rave about hacivat all day should try this one and get to know what a great fruity woody scent this one is.
The ambery drydown is something outstanding and intoxicating.

eleanorcastellani

Aventus’ older brother.
Darker, dangerous, black sheep of the family older brother. But he’s sweaty.

You don’t wear Karagoz, it wears you.

Opens very tart fruity, and dries down almost animalic.

Performance and longevity is so astronomical, your family overseas would be able to smell you.

Elindio

Corvettezr1

In the story of the shadowplay, karagoz is hacivats EVIL enemy and in the fragrance game , he proved he’s a real competitor . Daring challenging fragrance but o ... so.... addictive!. It’s very strong and very good! It opens with a lot of black grapes till the end . In the drydown you have vetiver and oud backing up the grapes ! It’s the most underrated Nishane PERIOD! Love this guys. The performance? Hhahaha CRAZY

Trendkill97

My thoughts based on sampling this:

I can understand that this can be a love it or hate it fragrance, from the first sniff I got this very familiar opening that reminded me of something I've smelled before but couldn't really put a finger on, I got tarty dense grapes almost fermented wine-like, this stays throughout the life of the scent, the pineapple mixes with the grapes to give off a jammy moderately sweet fruity vibe, slowly it develops into something slightly off-putting, maybe it's from hints of the oud that creeps in and mixes with the delicate white florals, its an extremely complex scent for sure, 8 hours later the patchouli and ambery dry down with a distinct "Fanta grape" soda lingers on the skin and keeps pushing for a really long time. The projection is great for the first few hours and has insane longevity, it remains as a skin scent until you shower or wash it off. For me, I really like the bold, unique character, and the bottle suits the style of the dark sweet mysterious atmosphere that this has the capability to create.

Overall a solid 8/10 for me, would pick a full bottle if found at a good deal soon.

Edit: WOW! This is beyond beast mode, I've never had a fragrance that lasts this long, Bombastic! Wore at 4pm in the evening the previous day, still stuck on my skin today at 2 in the afternoon. 22-24 hours, I'm stunned!

Scentimentalboy

The opening is quite generic for me and has tones which reminds me of some kind of cleaning stuff. In few hours this unpleasant part disappiers completelly and turns to a beautyfull scent for the drydown. I wish the opening would be shorter and then I would love it. Still very high quality and unique scent.

dabearjew82

I feel like some are suffering from a strong case of chemistry. This does not come of acidic or harsh on my skin. Yes there is a chemical aspect that helps boost performance, but i don't mind in this case. I love the grape accord is very appealing to me. Don't bite my head off but I choose this over havicat for my full bottle of a nishane. I just feel it's more unique and niche. I guess this reacts different on different skin because I don't see why you would hate this. Anyways, try it, if you don't like it @ me.

smellgood100

I wanted to like it. It definitely smells unique. It’s so powerful that it gave me a migraine. Not my cup of tea, maybe someone else’s.

Schmellin_Good

I don't often say this but this fragrance disgusted me. It's powerful too so that's even worse.

Had a very similar experience to the person below me.

bdragonfly12345

OK, please don't hate me, but this was NOT a great experience for me!

It started off fantastic, and I was very much loving the grapes and mild pineapple. Yum!!

However, it started smelling of rotted fruit-ish sludge as it dried down. Uggggggh! I like all the notes in this, so I can only conclude it's something to do with how the notes meld that is making it smell like death. (I got some on my shirt, and although it wasn't nearly as unpleasant as on my skin, it's also not a great smell.)

It actually got to the point (about five hours in) where my husband asked me to scrub it off because "it was making his head hurt". (Only two sprays had been applied, one on wrist, one in elbow crook.)

So, I hope you all have better luck than I did! I genuinely can't think of any situation where this would be a good fragrance to wear. Maybe Halloween?! ;)

W@qT

It is bit pricy. But I love it. It is indeed a grape soda in a perfume bottle.
Giving rating of 7 just because of the price.

msajoy

grape soda pop... thats it. love it
10/10 for fruit lovers/ beast mode activated

manoj4986

I would like to start by saying it has hardly any resemblance to Hacivat. This is a fragrance on its own and this is in beast mode category. This last more than 12 hours on skin and you dont have to put arm close to nose to smell at 12th hour, its so potent and easily noticeable.

This starts with strong blast of grape and hints of pineapple in background which is not prominent here.
Vetiver, grape, oud combo lasts forever in this fragrance that are prominent player of the fragrance.
All other notes are more in background.
Vetiver lover should try this definitely it has added gr8 fruity touch to it which is unique in a way.

tukamark

Karagoz is an ode to straightforwardness and wittiness. The 3 fragrances of the collection are named after the lead characters of the plays.

@mertsguzel, the creative director of the brand with @jorgeleegaitanperfumer wanted to capture the playfulness of Karagoz - they have created a glorious combination of pineapple, grape and vetiver creates a very unique effect of fruitiness and dry woodiness - a darker side of Hacivat if you will - projection and sillage on this is outstanding and the black bottle is just so classy.

shortyb

Opening so fruity but not a fresh fruity.
It is deep, dark and rich fruity
You can smell the little hint of green, hint of flower
This is perfect fruity for me since I don’t like the fresh fruit at all

Amber play the part to connect fruit, green and flower together.
Top 3 Nishane imo.

Very masculine, smell so gentleman.
Suits for people who want perfume to make you feel confidence and more reliable.

From another reviewer about this fragrance:
“ 45N81:15E97

In the translucent light her dreams had a sound of shadows dancing .
One frightening thought through these ghostlight , while sirens in the depth , are singing a song for a morning dawn.”

Who the heck writes these bizarre and ridiculous reviews? It’s like someone said “I’m going to write something incredibly cheesy and nonsensical and see if anyone likes it”.

SOTN - 𝗞𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗼𝘇 by 𝗡𝗶𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗲 𝗜𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗯𝘂𝗹

If the term sugar daddy had a scent attached to it it would be this.

The sweetness of sultry sexy juicy grapes and pineapple that swoon you and draw you in and the masculine power of Oud, Patchouli and Amber and Vetiver to knock you off your feet.

DaviSantos

Just like Chypre Mousse by Oriza L. Legrand, this is another case of a fragrance that got a lot of "dislike" and for that reason I thought I should check it. Bingo, again! I love it! Another fragrance with a personality of its own. The red grape note is canyon-deep! It lasts a long, long time. I like the dry down even better, when it gets a little more woody (but the grape is still there!). Great!

Nezal Hussain

This is very fruity and yet harsh to me but I like it very much and the projection is too good my friend smells on me and said it's very harsh and strong but he likes it too

Nooshin (Atghia)

Karagoz as his historical personality is a folkloric character. aggressive but forthright & Popular. So as this concept, Karagoz is a woody, green & harsh fragrance which is too loud! Great Long-lasting & sillage.

AndySmellsGreat

Dark dark deep blue.

Super duper extra fleshy sweet red grape, no tartness almost a black plum in fact.

Bright sweet pineapple over the top.

Base of patchouli, walloping out the dark depth bodied by amber.

Every thing else is coincidental and complimentary.

You... must... try... this...

Only negative is (for me at least) is it just turns off 3 - 5 hours in.

matherneconnor

Smells like a sweet version of Hacivat. Lots of sweet fruit before drying down to that vetiver. Weird though, every Nishane I try (Hacivat, Karagoz, FyF) drys down into the exact same thing. Wish they had more variety in that area.

AndySmellsGreat

It feels strangely familiar yet it is not.

If Hacivat is a superior copy of Aventus this is what it would look like on the evolutionary scale a few thousand years in the future.

A sweet thick buoyant pineapple darkened and complimented by maybe I would describe it as a desert wine accord rather than grape? The dark grape maybe even could be dark plum coming in behind the bright pineapple. Basically to me this is a substantially tweaked version of Hacivat - evolving just enough that you might possibly still buy both if you can afford it.

Awesome scent, mature yet trendy, a bit look at me! - I’m driving a Lamborghini and I’m a cool middle aged hipster. Oh no - Not a flash new one mind you but a cool Muira or Espada and the young chicks actually DO think you rock...

Yep, can see this on my top shelf for a long time...

rbalkris

A show stopping fruity aromatic scent that needs very strong bold personalities to pull off. The perfume opens with notes of pineapple, herbs and henna like herbs. The brief heart id floral and consists of jasmine, neroli and patchouli. The perfume settles into a powdery ambery base with hints of vetiver and oud. Tremendous sillage and projection and excellent longevity. Could be off puttingly strong for many, yet some will appreciate the eccentric and gleeful overtness of the composition. Enjoy!

SmellMyCheese

Quite nice, I have a sample of it. It's not full bottle good for me personally but I like it.

It reminds me of Aventus in the opening (a drier pineapple though) but with a natural grape skin accord at the top instead of blackcurrant.
It doesn't have that smoky birch quality at the base like Aventus does though and stays more in woody aspect of vetiver as it dries and so becomes less interesting (and a little bitter) and more like a standard cologne, but not bad.

Even with the fruit heavy opening I'd say this leans masculine.

Emorandeira

This perfume could be perfectly the Evil and more mature brother of aventus. Both share a strong presencié of the pinneaple in them and i can find log of similarities. But at the same time there are Also many differences. Aventus is fresher, brigter, more aquatic, is light suitable for an every day use. However karagoz is darker and much more dense and intense. Where aventus has vanilla or birch, karagoz has oud and vetiver. The green and creamy background of this perfume makes me think a lot if dries van noten by Frederic Malle. It is like this perfume but adding pinnaeple and oud Wood. Despite his dark character, karagoz is a perfume very easy to wear... Fruity and sweet, suitable for every genre or swason, but better for night time. The performance of the perfume is just what i would have expected to be un aventus according to the price. This is, summing Up, a darker aventus with a much better performance!

wxmath

The sillage and projection is strong. I got noticed today in a large room from a far distance, nor a compliment but not negative either. Second time wearing and I like it even more. Could be signature scent for me.

wxmath

The grape-pineapple-vetiver combo is very interest NG, different. Could be worn day, night, office or casual. Moderate projection and longevity. Leans more masculine. To me a darker version of Hacivat. I like it for the uniqueness and versatility. Not a blind but, get a sample first. As can be seen by prior reviewers, this is not for everyone.

Q80

Chypre, birch and pineapple. So mostly it's neroli, birch, and salty pineapple. I really wonder why does he use salt allot? This one as well beside "Zeene" is quite salty!

Frenzied

I received a sample of this as part of the "Nishane Shadow Play Trilogy" set from Twisted Lily.

Disclaimers:
- I am very new to perfumes. I'm still learning, and trying to get my head around how things smell and what works for me, so take all this with a big grain of salt.

- It's starting to look like citrus, and especially neroli, might not work for me. If you love citrus and wear it easily, my comments might not apply to you at all.

- Edit to add: This was just one spritz on my inner elbow.

So, what I get from this is the neroli. Lots and lots of orange that just doesn't fade, ever, for me. It has a smell that comes across to me as strongly "perfumey" (which I think that's how my nose reads neroli). The "perfume" smell, to me, is on the high end of moderate. Not quite enough to force me to scrub, but enough that I've noticed it all day, even without actively sniffing my skin.

The initial notes were orange, with a subtle soap clean smell. It was fresh, bright, and clean. But that morphed to "perfume" quickly (The "perfume" smell became apparent in the first 10-20 minutes). At 1.5h, I was still getting a few whiffs of freshness and some greenness, and at one point, I thought that I caught a subtle hint of mint underneath all the orange brambles, bushes, and overflowing baskets of blossoms. Perhaps that was the "green notes"?
But, now, at 8 hours in... it is still very orange and very perfumey on me.

This particular type of smell seems to be common, and it lasts forever on me. It reminds me of Clean Reserve's Citron & Fig, which is absolutely crazy, because they appear to have no notes in common. But, I sprayed a quick test of this on one tissue and Citron & Fig on another, and sure enough, they are eerily similar to my nose, even without my skin involved. Citron & Fig opened up a bit lighter with a bit more sweetness from the citron, but after some time, the two tissues are very, very close in smell. (I'm curious if anyone else smells this, or if it's something particular to my nose!)

I wish that I got the grape notes! Grape notes sound so odd, unexpected, and refreshing... and I haven't had the chance to try anything with grape. But, I get no grape nor pineapple, or much of anything else. Just a fairly large cloud of inescapable neroli perfumedness. Which, if you like neroli, could be great... but this isn't something that I'm likely to wear again.

From reading reviews of other citrus-based fragrances, it seems there are plenty of people who might love this one as well. Sadly, it just doesn't work well for my nose or skin.

Black Russian

If you would like this scent, you definitely will love its performance. On my skin it has heavy, borderline enormous sillage and projection for first 8 hours, moderate for another 4, and at least another 4 as skin scent. On paper it lasted over 24 hours.
Now the "IF" part. It opens like beautiful, intriguing and cheerful grape soda. Gourmand and fresh. Within 20 min, however, it changes so radically and not in good way. Still, when sprayed on paper it is strong like for me, but on my skin it smells terrible. Like some old sweaty bum came out of nowhere, spilled that grape soda all over suede couch, and sit on it without any intention to leave. So I would say it is NOT a safe buy, and you should get tester.
Although it listed as unisex, it is absolutely masculine scent. Honestly, I can't even imagine woman who can pull it in any way, unless some unimaginable changes with the skin chemistry.
