I cannot think of good enough things to say about this fragrance. I am just in love!

JT8D-219

Very elegant and has a slight complexity to it, especially that bold almondy sweet nature. Something that's strange in my case, is that on my skin, it reminds me a good bit of Lattafa's Qaed Al Fursan? It's pineapple-y in the mid but with the almond, almost as if the almond was so amped up it transforms into something else.

I somehow managed to find a travel set that was dated 5/2016 (6X01) in 2024, so I've basically managed to find a vintage set.

I'll give it a 8.5/10 because of how incredibly nice and good quality this one is.

Excellent fragrance. Stated elegance. Gentlemen's scent. Refined, suave, pristine & debonair without pretense.

The beautiful top note of the almond and citrus work well together, then comes the leather and orange blossom along with the bitter orange closing in the ranks. The leather helps push all these notes simultaneously.

Very respectable longevity and sillage. Harmonious and balanced.

Kudos Gueralin. 🙏

Got a travel set (100 ml bottle and 10 ml bottle) on sale for $36. Didn't think twice and bought it.
Classy scent with at least 6 good hours. After that, it will be skin scent for at least 2 more hours. After that, it will be on clothe if you spray it.
After 30 minutes, you will start catching the almond smell.
Went with 12 sprays. But i think i might do a bit more, just to intoxicate myself with the lovely aroma.

sniff_this

It opens with super glue notes that are gone within minutes. Settles into something truly unique and lovely. I was worried it would smell like marzipan, but it does not. All notes seem to blend seamlessly.

Edit: The downside is eventually all that is left after a couple of hours is the citronellol (a bit like the Floris No.89 I tested the day before) which really does smell like insect repellent and, once you realise that, you can't smell anything else. It's so long-lasting and cheap, it's no surprise why it is featured in so many frags

LetUsSpray

I was super nervous about this one as it was my first "gourmand," and plenty of online reviewers/commenters were less than kind... I'm glad I didn't listen as I truly like this one! Yes, things can be a bit muddled to start. No, some of the notes aren't the most natural at first spray... but as the dry down starts and things start to come together it turns into a warm, cozy, slightly spicy, almond, tonka bean dream. I don't know why the purists are so angry about this one, but they can send me their bottles if they don't want them!

Addictive and Charming Cozy and Sexy, READ THIS, Ideal last better than DG The One, it is the same style of sweetness, forget The One, replace it with this yummy pleasure!

Guerlain's L'Homme Ideal is a masterful creation that redefines the art of masculine perfumery. This exceptional fragrance is a harmonious blend of contrasts, where freshness and warmth, elegance and sensuality, and tradition and innovation converge in perfect harmony.

The opening notes of bergamot and lavender burst forth with a vibrant energy, invigorating the senses and setting the stage for the heart of the fragrance. Here, the majestic notes of leather, tobacco, and spices unfold, evoking the seductive allure of a confident gentleman.

As the scent unfolds, the base notes of vanilla, tonka bean, and patchouli add depth and complexity, wrapping the senses in a rich, velvety embrace. The dry down is nothing short of sublime, with a subtle whisper of musk and amber that lingers long after the final notes have faded.

L'Homme Ideal is a true masterpiece, a fragrance that not only lives up to its name but exceeds expectations. It is an ideal blend of contrasts, a symphony of scents that will leave a lasting impression on all who have the pleasure of experiencing it.

Whether you're a seasoned perfume connoisseur or simply seeking a signature scent that exudes masculine elegance, L'Homme Ideal Guerlain is an absolute must-have. Five stars, without a doubt!

Possibly my first true fragrance love and my signature for years. I'm near the bottom of my second bottle but my fragrance collection has grown so much I may just never finish it out of sentimentality.

It's the most mass appealing out of the line but still more unique than most men's fragrances on the market. It has a really pleasant sourness in the opening and only improves from there. I'm more drawn to the EDP these days and hope to try the new Parfum if it ever becomes available to me

Ferg1

This one is difficult to dislike, Guerlain makes the best designers imo.

a01dave

Bought the EDP formulation in 2021 and I recently bought a bottle of the EDT for comparison. Both have the same DNA, this one being less sweet and powdery. Still a very nice crisp Almond + Citrus fragrance.

So the 2014 up to 2016 version is well worth it , as an investment if you love perfumes, I still have 50% of the 100 ml EDT bottle, I heard many complain about the reformulated version, I use it on special occasions, in the evening, and sometimes at the office. It is not a perfume for summer (only if the evening is a little cool outside, it is worth wearing in summer). As for the seasons, I prefer to wear it in Autumn and Winter because then it has the best performance and you get a lot of compliments, in spring if the temperatures are below 25°C it's ok worn (but its projection and intensity will decrease drastically), it smells insane and its smell warms you up if it's very cold outside. On my skin, in Winter and Autumn, I get 8+ hours and another 2 hours of skin scent (10+ hours in total approx.), Spring minus is projection and intensity will go up to 6 hours and 1 hour of skin scent (I don't use perfumes on my clothes, I want to specify). If you want to blind-buy, look for the EDT bottle from the 2014 up to 2016 version will not disappoint you!
I highly recommend it only from those years period to be bought.

Sexy_Ox

I'm not a fan of sweet fragrances and vanilla note, so this is a no for me. It gets very vanilly on my skin and tends to get a little cloying when you're in a room and the temperature is high. Can be used year round but maybe on slightly colder summer days.

DaveCave

This one is just a masterpiece to my nose. I love the almond in this.

blobfishfragrances

Great fragrance for most times of year. You can get it for fairly cheap off of a good discounter and I personally have had no issues with performance. I still find it as a skin scent after ~7+ hours, and I've caught it projecting well for the first 3-ish hours. It opens with some fairly intense almond and citrus scents, and it's mostly a fresh spring/summer scent in the immediate opening. However, after an hour or two, I find it calming down and becoming very vanilla-heavy, while still having some nutty undertones. I personally don't see the woody notes some people mention.
I would personally prefer the EDP, since the EDP and EDT are so different with this fragrance, and the EDP is much richer and sweeter. However, I'm prone to really sweet wintery fragrances, and I can see how someone would prefer this to the EDP if they were just looking for a nice, versatile fragrance that still has some more fun and interesting tones.

There is a new parfum version of this masterpiece coming soon.
Stay tuned...

If you ask me this is 100 times better than edp.

This is fun and sexy at the same time, unique.

Second attempt at reviewing this scent. I really can’t digest this one. It’s got a smoothness to it and comes together in a different way than I am used to. I think it smells good then I think it smells weird. Reminds me of the way a second hand store or a goodwill store smells when you first walk in or my grandparents house when I was young. I can tell it’s blended well and is not cheap smelling but the actual scent of it is not typical or mainstream at all. I guess I am wondering if it’s appealing to anyone around me. Upon wearing it a few times it seems to have got stronger in a short amount of time on shelf. Lasted 8 hours yesterday and could still smell on skin next morning. Definitely not a sexy smell. Leans towards professional smell and also not for younger guys. Jury is still out on this one for me but was very affordable and isn’t a flat out no for me. Will update after a few more try’s

scenturian

Without a doubt the best in the Ideal line.
Very good very niche.

NecessaryExistence

This is a fantastic inoffensive sweet versatile scent. Very underrated. I prefer this over the flankers. It isn’t heavy at all. L’Homme Idéal EDT would work great possibly all year round, especially in the office but even at night. It has moderate longevity, but I’m getting very intimate projection. I recommend a minimum of 7 sprays, maybe 5 if it’s hot. This is a very very high quality fragrance. It’s niche quality for sure, just not very strong. It is a sleeper that has started to become one of my favourite fragrances.

CreepyKid

I had sampled this a few times before buying a full bottle and loved it. On my skin I had a beautiful mixture of that sweet airy almond almost amaretto note and a leathery woody tobacco dry down. It was both crisp and fresh while also being hearty and masculine. I finally bought a full bottle recently only to be let down by performance and longevity issues. The bottle I purchased is a February 2023 run and it lasts barely an hour or two even with up to six sprays. The older sample vials I had would last all day with only two little sprays. The scent is more or less the same but man did they water this down in the current production runs. Hopefully they've fixed it for 2024 because this is such a unique and wonderful fragrance in a sea of copycat dude bro scents. It'd be a shame to have it remain so underwhelming for the price point.

Kenta3737

This is one of my favorite fragrances of all time, forget the EDP or the extreme because this is just that good. This is a citrusy aromatic fragrance with creamy almond note which opens up very brigh and cheerful with orange blossom and rosemary which gives it that slightly green and herbaceous scent which I love so much. Overall this is a very unique fragrance, It’s a nice versatile and every day type of fragrance but smells expensive and different great for every season especially in summer. Love it.

Smellybutgood

Guerlain's L’Homme Ideal EDT epitomizes the house's mastery in crafting timeless fragrances that set trends rather than follow them. This almond-infused scent opens with an amaretto accord, blending creamy and bitter notes with a subtle dryness. The woodier heart introduces regal cedar and supple leather, complemented by a not overly sweet tonka bean.

Thierry Wasser's creation is a modern, classy, and uniquely masculine scent that captivates even those not drawn to sweeter fragrances. The layering of cedar, almond, and leather creates a rich sillage, marrying masculinity with contemporary elegance. Despite bottle changes, Guerlain generally maintains the original character of its scents, showcasing a commitment to quality and consistency.

In debunking the myth of a mere 2-hour performance, I find it perplexing if reviewers genuinely experience the fragrances they critique. Today, I applied the L’Homme Ideal EDT at 10 am, and come 6:30 pm, my wife still detects its presence. While not a projection powerhouse like Sauvage Elixir, it aligns more with the intimacy of YSL Lanuit De L'Homme, proving that longevity is not a shortcoming, but rather a deliberate design choice for an enduring, close-quarters allure.

L’Homme Ideal EDT, often overshadowed by its counterparts, remains the foundation of the line, deserving recognition for its groundbreaking awesomeness. In a nutshell, it's simply amazing. The whole line is.

hommeLhomme

A sweet and bright scent that is just a touch powdery, with a strong almond note followed by tonka bean. Dries down Woody and nutty. Beautiful overall.

For me this could be worn all year round as a signature scent. The citrus notes make it suitable to warmer weather. The sweetness for colder months.

This fragrance lasts a good 8-10 hours with 1-2 feet of projection on my skin on merely just 2 sprays to each side of the neck. Would last longer and project stronger with more sprays.

To conclude, I really love this EDT by Guerlain, so much so that I've made it my signature daily scent! This is such a wonderful and unique smelling fragrance! I would love to gatekeep this but I would rather highly recommend it for others to enjoy it as well!

Useful66

Just got the original bottle and gotta say there’s something akin to Armani Code EDT about this. I’m loving it! Bitter opening that’s clove like and yet still allows the almond to take center stage. Loud fragrance that keeps me going back for more sniffs. Can’t wait to get to the late dry down. Exceptional purchase.

httrung32

A smooth blend of fresh, sweet, nutty, and suede-like leather with a touch of creaminess and medicinal notes. It is a classy, effortless, addictive, and versatile fragrance for a young modern man, suitable for any occasion. It is best for ages 25-40, I think. It has a strong projection for the first 1-2 hours, but it stays on the body lingering for hours with a moderate sillage. I sometimes get a whole workday with just 3-4 sprays on clothes. I have been wearing this occasionally for 3 years. I don’t get many compliments with this fragrance, maybe 2 or 3, so it is not a mass-appealing crowd-pleaser like the cringey L'Homme Ideal commercials suggested. Anyways, I love this type of leather fragrance–elegant, smooth, soft, and not animalic or overpowering at all. I have been wearing this a lot this fall/winter.

Primer24

For me, it is like the entrance to a luxury hotel or a place of luxury.

Wormleyyy

Very classy scent. Perfect for any formal occasion. The almond is beautiful in here and really makes for a gentlemanly scent. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a classy smell.

perlindvall

It has a sweetness I want to come back to, but almond? No, rather amber/oud maybe. I kind of judge a perfume on how it smells after a while. It smells better than the drydown on the skin that only smells good after a long time, which is weird. I give it to Guerlain that they have their own style and I can recognise it.

L'HOMME "GÉNÉRIQUE"?

I was curious to measure my own appreciation of Guerlain's L'Homme Ideal. The reviews I read so far are quite of the love-hate kind. The reviewers' scent ratings seem to be quite polarized with very high and very low marks. I never pay much attention to fragrance trolls voting for a fragrance with a very low mark. I would only rate a scent with a "zero" if it really stinks or if it contains plain water in the flask. L'Homme Idéal EdT does remind me of certain fragrances like Armani's Code Profumo, Mugler's Pure Havane, Azzaro Pour Homme Intense and SpiceBomb, but without being similar to none. I just use those perfumes on the same occasions. However, all those fragrances have higher reviewer ratings and better performance than L'Homme Idéal. Other Guerlain well-established perfumes also have higher rates. L'Instant, Habit Rouge and Heritage are Guerlain's untouchable masculine fragrance landmarks and set a target hard to achieve with other scents. L'Homme Idéal supporters claim the EdT to be very alluring, quite sexy, a nice performer and with a unique scent. Let's find out how true that statement can be.
The top notes reveal a generic citrus accord and a heavier floral orange blossom that blends naturally with the fragrance DNA in the heart phase. This opening phase is a bit generic and somewhat metrosexual, but without really becoming boring.
With the heart phase, the scent becomes more pungent offering sweet tonka blended with the persistent and dominant almond, that endures till it dries down. It is clearly the fragrance DNA. Other fragrances rely on almonds and tonka to mark a gourmand position. In the L'Homme Idéal case, it gives you a singular middle notes combination. The orange blossom top note already proposes an elegant sweet ambiance and participates in the sweet accord together with the tonka and almond notes. It's not a very "Guerlain" blending but the result is good. The fragrance shines unique and pleasant all through this phase.
The more subtle bottom notes call for a more vulgar blend arrangement of quality cedar, leather and vetiver that team up quite well with the prevailing the heart phase sweetness, mainly due to the powerful and long-lasting almond note.
L'Homme Idéal trails its own path now for a pleasant drydown, but performance will reveal itself as only slightly above average.

I already tried two of its flankers with EdP concentrations. To my nose, the "Eau de Parfum" seems to have a similar performance and a kind of cloying scent, with strong tonka and faint vanilla. Stronger but not better. The fragrance is heavier but equally short-lived. I own the Intense flanker version which I judge to be better balanced, showing a bit of cardamom in the opening. It also uses a stronger vanilla note with some smoke in the drydown. Nevertheless, its performance does not shine as well.
This Guerlain fragrance family promoted timid new paths to the perfume industry. it's not as revolutionary as those created by Thierry Mugler more than twenty-five years ago, but it is innovative enough for a typical conservative designer like Guerlain. I also believe this new type of blending not to be as bold as Paco Rabanne's revolutionary designs for instance. However, too much innovation does not ensure success by itself.
I believe that this fragrance family will grow in supporters and users in the years to come. There will be more consensus around it. A more competitive pricing would help a lot as well.
As stated before, the EdT performance is average. The longevity lasts less than 7 hours and shows a sillage of about one arm's length. The projection is quite inferior to what I am used to with Guerlain perfumes. I only applied two heavy sprays in my test to avoid the almond note from becoming cloying.

My rates for L'Homme Ideal EDT:
___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___
- Scent Opening: 7.5 (metrosexual and almost vulgar opening, unusual in Guerlain's perfumes)
- Scent Dry Down: 8.5 (the persistent tonka-almond combo blends with leather, vetiver and cedar; I quite like the effect)
- Longevity: 7.0 (up to 6~7 hours with 2 good sprays)
- Sillage: 7.0 (4 feet at its peak with 2 good sprays; It projects for 1.5 hours)
- Versatility: 8.5 (the EDT sweetness is elegant and alluring. It has a fresh nuance that contributes to proposing a wider range of situations where you can safely wear L'Homme Idéal like a signature scent, office fragrance, leisure situations, dinners, conventions, receptions, weddings, dining out, dates, intimacy... but not really in clubbing, work out, beach or sweating activities)
- Wearability: 9.0 (just forget to use it on sunny Summer days outdoor activities or cold winter nights)
- Compliments: 8.5 (With an increasing number of people enjoying sweet fragrances (but not sickly sweet), I really do think that this fragrance will please a wide range of both younger and older people. And like my daughter says, "chicks dig it!")
- Uniqueness: 8.5 (This fragrance has lots of cousins but not really tween brothers)
- Quality: 9.5 (great almond, orange blossom, tonka and cedar notes; heavy handy bottle and good sprayer; I just complain about the average performance)
- Presentation: 8.0 (nice but common)
- Price: 7.0 (€46,00 for a 100ml tester on sale + taxes + shipping back in 2018. For this price I could have bought a Guerlain's Heritage EdP 100 ml flask that I prefer by far)
___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___
Average: 8.09 / 10.00
- between 7 and 8 =above average;
- between 8 and 9 = recommended;
- bigger than 9 = don't miss it;

My opinion: I would not like to recommend this fragrance without you testing it previously. You may be one of the many unconditional lovers or you may belong to the indifferent majority. I suggest you compare it with similar alternatives. I don't plan to buy another bottle whenever the present bottle finishes. Anyway, for the use I will give it, this flask is going to last for quite a while. I prefer either the Intense version or an imaginary "L'Homme Ideal Boisé Intense" if such a flanker would be launched in the future.
Like many other people, I am not impressed by this Guerlain offer. It's an "honest" and likeable fragrance, but too expensive for its juice uniqueness. For a little more than half of its price, I can order Azzaro EDP Intense (another fragrance that arises to my mind when I wear L'Homme Ideal). Although less versatile for its inexistent freshness, I prefer the Azzaro's scent type and I get a lot better performance. For the same price, I really prefer Pure Havane for instance. Climbing up the price ladder, I also prefer Code Profumo to L'Homme Ideal EDP, and I get a way better performance.

So tired of reading ridiculous comments like "blah-blah-blah, I'm doing 10 sprays and feel nothing, it is watered down...". Are you serious? Stop chocking people around you and check your stuffy nose. This fragrance still rocks, 2 sprays of 2022 batch last me all day and no need to add more, otherwise it will cause nausea!

Ryan121101

A classy scent that is signature worthy. Starts off bright with the citruses and dries down to a lovely syrupy sweet almond and tonka. Perfect for daily wear to the office or casual occassions. This scent doesn't smell like any other scent. People will be asking what you're wearing!

thrice_great

This used to be my favourite perfume. Last bottle i owned, i purchased 2017 or 2018. The smell and performance where great! Now, while i still enjoy the scent, the performance is a joke! With the old bottle i took 2-3 sprays and it was projecting good for at least 3 hours. Now, even with 10 SPRAYS!! it becomes a skin scent after an hour. What a shame. Really dissapointed, since i bought the 150ml because i thought i knew what i was getting

FragranceAnon

This is a gorgeous almond-centric scent. I had received a sample of the EDP, which I really enjoyed but thought it was the EDT and ordered the EDT based on that.

The EDT smells great, although I think I prefer the EDP as I detected more leather and appreciated the cherry note.

Also, the EDT seems to become a skin scent almost immediately---even with many (10ish) sprays on skin and clothing. I really don't understand how it is so faint. I'm not thrilled about that part (Bad batch maybe? I got the newer bottle without the black on the perimeter.), but, again, the scent itself is beautiful.

frankcoelho

This is my special occasion fragrance. Got it from my wife as a father's day gift, and absolutely died for it instantly.
Smells niche, behaves niche, but priced as a designer. The shower gel + 100mL is what I got, and was absolutely worth it, and super shocking to be gifted this.
I'll love to smell the flankers, but this a great signature that works all year around, but smells more dressed up in my opinion.
I have Aoud Lemon Mint from Mancera, and do think they smell much alike.

Andodiesel

Compliment getter 10/10

ideal.my.fav

They reformulated this in 2020 when they changed the bottle. The original juice has more citrus at the top, more vetiver at the base and less almond in the middle. New juice is more almond focused and because of that, you can't get the cherry feeling in the current batches. The performance is around the same.

Odor Aeternitatis

Modern, sexy, and nice fragrance

You can't go wrong with a fragrance when Guerlain's name is behind that. A modern fragrance from the Guerlain House to answer today's market. To me, this fragrance is very straightforward and right to the point. A leather fragrance with a high dose of tonka bean and almond and with a refreshing top note. A good option for clever guys. This fragrance was created for the modern day and is getting high scores in all aspects:

Mass-appealing and compliments: 8/10
Quality: 8/10
Modern and sexy scent: 7/10
Reasonable projection and longevity:7/10
Reasonable price: 7:10
Good bottle design:7/10

Overall score: 7.5/10

Almost nisch quality very nice opening fresh and sweet (but not much sweet) Almond is dominant with citrusy and back ground twisting cherry and rosemary little bit. Very pleasant scent for +30 age.Image of this scent on the people that man is trustable and who has soft personality and good person and has a good education. Longevity modarate and sillage nearly 1,5- 2 hours very good and strong but not bursting so you can wear in office also in a restorant for dinner.it is a good quality fregrance

suzanne_ronald

LEMON, ALMOND & TONKA Menswear. Opens with a citrus-aromatic burst with a bit of body to it from orange-blossom, that deepens into the almond & tonka-bean heart. You do get a cherry vibe here in the heart - from the almond extract nuances and the dark-cherry facets of tonka-bean - but it's softened by the continuing citrus-aromatics and the woody aspects of almond & tonka, which carry on until the hand-off to leather, cedar & vetiver in the drydown. Vetiver here is multi-faceted with grassy and fruity tones that support the citrus & cherry, while the cedar supports the woody aspects of almond & tonka-bean. Alongside all of this, there is an airy, ozonic aspect coming from the combination of rosemary & leather, which tilts everything to the masculine. Overall, I get l'homme ideal that's fresh, nutty, sweet, deep and clad in leather. As a women I would wear this with some boyfriend jeans and an oversized motorcycle jacket.

Contrast to Aoud Lemon Mint Mancera:
These are different, but ALM is inspired by L'Homme Ideal EDT Guerlain but isn't a dupe. ALM has a more forwared oud note, but this is like L'Homme Ideal EDT done Mancera-style. Both have excellent performance, but there are subtle differences - ALM projects a little more, but L'Homme Ideal has slightly better longevity.

Overall: high quality lemon, almond & tonka scent, with excellent longevity, with a soft but present projection. It's a love for me. Enjoy!

aroutis

I finally added it to my Guerlain L'homme collection. It is a very interesting one where Tonka gives out a cherry vibe and reminds the EDP one. I like it quite a bit. As an EDT i find it the lighter (projection wise) of the rest I have , even Platine Privee which it has matured to quite a beast interestingly !

Overall I will be wearing it quite a bit.
Will I re buy once it ends (got the small bottle). Not likely as the profile for my nose is close enough to EDP and I already have an almost finished small bottle and an unopened big one for that.

Guerlain hopefully will keep on giving us a lot more of this wonderful line.

Tshahb

Hyper masculine, if you subscribe to gender in perfume, which I normally don't. But this has really old-school macho dad vibes.

It's a great scent, but there's something that catches in my throat and makes me feel like my airways are tightening. I have no allergies that I know of, and this is the only perfume that has this effect on me.

All this considered, the EDP is a much more modern, accessible (and unisex) take on the same theme, as is Intense, whereas extreme falls more into the macho category. Of the line, this is my least favourite (and the new silver bottled flanker is superfluous in my opinion).

I don't get people calling this sweet, to me it's ultra-bone-dry.

For an EDT, it's STRONG.

JayLee29

The reviewer below me said his bottle changed over a few years and so did the travel spray I purchased. Just like him my bottle used to be more almondy mixed with the cherry and woods, but now unfortunately the almond note is no longer prominent and if it’s still there at all it is being dominated by the synthetic medicinal cherry note. Which unfortunately for me has all but ruined this gorgeous fragrance. It is now just a medicinal cherry smell for me which really sucks because this used to be class personified. And when I say medicinal cherry I mean that in the most real sense. It smells like a high class bottle of cherry cough syrup. It’s just syrupy and cherry and a slight hint of boozy almond woods in the background. Unfortunately it is somewhat ruined for me sadly. I wanted to buy a full bottle of this at one point because of how gorgeous that almond note was upon first testing it. It had a similar natural almond vibe to one million lucky which seemed to pair up great with the cherry. However the cherry note has taken over and most of the magic is gone

Kelz23

I’ve had this for a while, About 2 years. I’ve been wearing this one for the past few days. I forgot how good this one is. I immediately get a cherry note though which is weird because the almond used to be so prominent. Still smells great. I actually like how it’s changed. Definitely going to wear this one a lot this fall/winter

Radias

Seeing most reviews below saying that this has poor longevity and sillage makes me think that my bottle, bought Spring 2023, is from a perfect batch since I get 10+ hours. I'm new to Guerlain and this has quickly become one of my most favorites and most beautiful scents I own. Definitely more sweet than fresh/sporty/spicy. I bought the EDP right after I bought this - to my nose it's darker/warmer while the EDT is sweet/gorgeous. This is a great place to start with the line if you're into sweet. Every time I have worn this someone always says something nice to me and I'm happy to share with them what it is. A certified home-run of designer fragrance. I will ALWAYS have a bottle of this.

Research

It's a nice fragrance but I find it weak, sitting close to the skin almost immediately. I will wear it when I don't want to loudly project around me.

Arber Cami

When it came out this was so unique, and it is till this day. Opens up a little powdery, dries down to a gorgeous, citrusy, almondy, tonka bean smell with a hint of cedar in the back. Absolutely worth as a signature scent. I have an 2015 batch and the performance/longevity are very good.

monsieur.moustache

So it turns out that the ideal man smells like...almonds? Interesting how things work out.

This scent is nice. Smooth, versatile and sophisticated. Communicates quiet confidence. It's similar to Armani Code, so if you are a fan of that fragrance, you'd likely have some natural affinity to this one.

The only drawback is performance. This does not have the best projection or longevity.

I tried it on my skin and it was absolutely fantastic. Signature scent worthy.

2016 batch vs 2021 batch
They increased the level of almond and leather but also reduced the level of citruses, vetiver and tonka bean. It now smells more dry and woody. Old batch smells like almond and cherry(citruses gives this cherry feeling) with a clean vetiver finish, new one is more like lineer almond scent. Performances are similar maybe the opening is stronger with the 2016 batch thanks to that citrus blast but overall longevity and projection are toe to toe. I actually prefer the new one because I like simple fragrances more.

August '23 Update: Tried it again from the tester vial a few months later, and I hate it. The sweetness is just too much and made me gag.

I prefer this over Ideal EDP, but I'm not a fan of either overall.

Every time I think about this, only two things constantly come to mind: ultra sweet and almonds. I feel like I start smelling more of the rosemary (or some other herbal note) during the dry down despite it being a top note. But overall, it's just ultra sweet + almonds. It's borderline cloying, but not actually unpleasant.

NinoG

Great scent, but only last around 4h for me. Bought 1 week ago with new design

laundrybasinmustard

I originally agreed with the winter/night recommendations for this, and used it for that purpose at Nebraska-type latitudes. But I'm in the tropics near the ocean now and have started wearing it by day. It has something in common with the scents I notice from certain flowering trees at this lower latitude. Try it somewhere unexpected and see what you think.

Also, I think this would smell sexy as hell on a woman.

Potta

User piyux described the fragrance perfectly, everything he says is 100%.

I like the frag, but I don't really love it.. yet. I was expecting it to be a bit more loud, but I'm not upset about the buy, it's still a good frag for the price and will not offend anyone. 7/10

Ali Mechmet

How can we describe it in a simply way?
If you remove the prominent (sweetened from tonka) almond note you have pretty much L'Oreal Men Expert Barber Club grooming products scent! Cedar, leather, vetyver everything is there...
(Okay, Barber Club in addition has eucalyptus on top of the pyramid but this is another story)
So, if you like L'Oreal Barber Club grooming products at supermarkets and want to combine with something similar but much much higher quality cologne (it's Guerlain) here it is!
Happy to see that finally receives the respect that deserves, at past it had low rating (3.72).

Apache1830

I like it a lot, not so much the opening, but the drydown is beautiful, fruity, airy, gentlemanly

I think it's my favourite of the line, need to test them all side by side

Smellybutgood

Amazing fragrance that is not as popular as the EDP or Extreme.

Although Thierry Wasser is the first non-family perfurmer to hold the role of master perfumer for the house of Guerlain, I must say that he did an exceptional job with this EDT.

The opening begins with a bright citrusy opening, but the best part is after 15 minutes or so, when that amazing almond note shows itself and takes the fragrance into a completely unexpected direction. It’s 100% addictive.

The main complaints towards the EDT come from those die hard Guerlain lovers who much prefer Habit Rouge, Heritage, and Vetiver...(all amazing and timeless classics) that are in the same vain.

L’Homme Idéal is much milder and won’t impress those who don’t have much of a sweet tooth. But if you can appreciate almond and have an appetite for something out of the box without the "barbershop" vibe, you will enjoy this.

kaurg

First impressions. In the top layer, I get a soft citrus note paired with vanilla-tonka sweetness. This accord is almost gourmand, like a lemon meringue pie or something like that. (I'm reminded of Chanel Allure Homme Sport Eau Extreme here.) In the middle and base, I get an almond note paired with very light woody notes, and the leather is also very light. In a way, this sweet leather-tonka combination is very mainstream (Armani Code Profumo comes to mind, but almost every designer line has something like that in their selection). But I would argue that this concoction is actually very balanced and tastefully blended, without excessive syrupy sweetness or added spicy notes. It's quite light and carefree, but has enough depth and class not to be frivolous or immature or sporty. A good candidate for a signature scent, could be worn all year around, in formal settings or informal gatherings, at a date night, at office, whatever.

ixo

What others are saying is pretty much true - Amazing dumb reach scent that is amazing smelling no matter how much you spray.

But performance is lacking. I went heavy on the sprays and was getting super soft projection with poor lasting power.

Clay_N

Nice scent, similar to the others with a sweet almond character with a woody spice base.
It is a good non-summer masculine scent, but as many others have said, if you already have a spicy cold weather scent, then this would be redundant. Another 'like' for me, it does not blow me away. 8/10

Afrikano

A very nice sophisticated and easy to wear scent. This was a blind buy for me and pretty happy with it. I wish I had got the bottle with the matte black finish on the sides but regardless of that the scent is really nice. To me this takes place as Guerlain’s YSL L’Homme. They don’t smell the same but to me they serve the same purpose. It’s a versatile scent that can be worn almost all year and is easy to like. Now after smelling this I wish I had gotten the chance to smell the Cologne version of this which has sadly been discontinued. But to me this is a really good fragrance but almost redundant if you own something like Lhomme by YSL. 7/10

1B01 - February 2021 batch
(Full glass bottle, no black rim, old logo)

One thing I can bravely say is L’homme Ideal line is very Iconic and Original.

The way that Almond and Leather melt together is out standing the most way possible you can imagine. Intoxicating and masculine at the same time.

I own L’intense and original EDT. By far I think the EDT is a bit superior.

Don’t get me wrong. All of the release is phenomenal and unique but late release kinda forget what make Original the best.

EDT is not as sweet as other flanker.
It’s emitting the leather and nutty accord nicely.
Almost chewable. This is the part that people notice the most and think as Backbone of this line.

But I think what make EDT the best is Cedar and Vetiver. The quality masculine smell is what I really craving after Leather and Almond.

It’s truly unique as the late flanker leans to Sandalwood and Vanilla instead. So I feel it a bit lost some part of Original DNA.

It has mature man quality in the day off.

9 hours longevity with 2021 batch.
If you like mature fragrance w/o extreme sweetness give this a shot.

evertonnick3

I’ve tried this, the EDP, cool, and sport and none of them are even close to EDP. This one in particular has not performance. Lasts like 3 hours and doesn’t project very much. It smells nice (not as nice as the EDP obviously) but doesn’t stay around.

El Caballo Blanco

My signature scent! I have many in my collection but I could never choose only one..... But..... If I had to, this would be in my top five for life for sure!

eewatts23

I'm not sure what to think of this one. On the one hand, I really enjoy the opening with its brightness and with its citruses.

The problem I think is that it dives too quickly into the tonka (coumarin) phase, and coumarin can feel a bit screechy. After ONLY 5 minutes of spraying I'm basically left with strong, coumarin with a side of almond, which sounds a lot more exiting than it actually is on skin. Basically vanilla, coumarin and the other 15% an aroma chemical mimicking a flat almond aroma.

On the far dry down, you get the slightly screechy tonka + vetiver, and it isn't that smooth. It's as if the focus group didn't fully test it by wearing it a few times and they just threw it out there. My advice would be to somehow make this fragrance fresher, which they did with the EDP. The EDP seems to already be a huge improvement, not to mention the even more successful flankers.

mirrorghost

this one starts with bitter orange and rosemary, and it reads as juniper after the citruses tone down a bit. the almond and vetiver come through next. the almond has a softening effect. not really for me, but not bad, but i do want to try it in warmer weather.

Billy8619

This one jumps off my skin the most out of the ideal line. I have EDP, EXTREME, COLOGNE and the guerlain Homme from another line. All of them I love. But the IDEAL EDT performs the best for me.
I'd say it's definitely closer to the discontinued COLOGNE, and the only similarities with the EDP/EXTREME is the almond note.
This is also really close to MANCERA Lemon Mint, without the Oud.
Any season apart from red hot days.

Thecheapiescollector

very almondy and fresh. like it wearing it during daytime.

Yessamin

This doesn’t scream macho alfa everywhere. It is subtle and poised.

I wear it sometimes as a female and I find it very almondy and yummy.

Does not last long, though

christoffer.t

Bought this for chrismas pres for myself and its so watered down, last less then 1 hour on me and 0 sillage.
Had the same issue with the Intense version as well while the Extreme is working in beast mode on me. :(

JessicaEllen

One of the few men's frags I enjoy wearing. I love the tonka in the dry down. Also enjoy pairing it with Poison Girl or Girl of Now.

Dixieland Delight

I have the whole line, love them all. This is the one I reach for the most often.

I'm not saying it's the best smelling of the line(Extreme and L'intense for me), but this is the most balanced and easily wearable in any season aside from high summer heat. Great for upscale, business casual situations.

What I love about this, aside from the beautiful L'homme Ideal DNA, is the sharpness in the original version. It has a crisp, woody, bitter citrus sharpness to counterbalance the sweet almond and other creamy notes.

It's a wonderful mens' scent, and one I will use up - despite having close to 200 frags.

A true classic. It lasts more than 8 hours on skin for me.

I love it!! Timeless!Best version of Ideal!

dpark

From L'Homme Ideal I get bright citrus on top, almost a spiced orange. Then I get some floral notes, a bit of a musky note, and then the almond. The projected scent from this is really quite pleasant.

This smells rich and feels like a cooler weather fragrance to me, but it doesn't feel like it's necessarily an evening fragrance.

This has an extremely similar feel to La Nuit de L'Homme. And like LNDLH, I find this very nice smelling but wouldn't reach for it regularly. I do find this brighter and easier wearing than LNDLH. To my nose it's better balanced.

heavyindustry

The sweetness of L'Homme Ideal caught me off guard, years ago in Russia. It was this very quality that convinced me to buy a bottle. The opening was disarming, consisting of a unique accord formed from coumarin, powdery heliotrope, top end sparkle from mandarin and aromatic rosemary to paint the scent masculine. However, the aromatics play around the edges, allowing for the sweetness to play a leading role. By the fourth hour, the tonka sweetness has subsided, leaving a mild aromatic musk formed largely from ambroxan. Projection is minimal after 2 hours but the scent persists as a mild skin scent on skin for six.

Despite the history I have with the scent, I barely reach for it. Yes, the sweetness is new and unique and it stands out amongst designers. However, there's something off to me, whether it's the sharp rosemary, tonka or leather undertone. This is one scent I actually feel nothing towards, neither good nor bad.

Stoic

The one of the line I wear most often. I love the almond amaretto bouquet that stays around from start to finish. Starts off with a little citrusy-herbaceous kick, a sweet almond mid and a leathery-woody base; overall an attractive aromatic scent with good versatility.
Performance across the board is good with enjoyable occasional whiffs throughout the day.
I use it for almost any occasion year-round in climate controlled environments.
It projects a smoother kind of an elegant masculine vibe and has become one of my favourite scents.

sf2explus

Silky smooth scent.
Anyone worried about the new bottles not to worry i have just purchased a bottle without the black borders around it. new bottle design is much better for me and looks more classy. as for the juice it does not seem like they reformulated it at all if they did Guerlain did an excellent job. The only thing that may have changed is the boozy element seems more emphasized in the all clear new bottles which i don't mind at all. Still lasts 6-8 hours on skin (using 4 sprays). which is the least number of hours you expect from a quality brand. My only complaint with the new bottle design is the fact that the atomiser is not as good as it used to be, on the older bottles which allowed the user to control how much they want to spray which is a bit of a let down.

For me this is super elegant scent a little sweet without being sickly. nice orange/mandarin/almond/tonka note that stays throughout the duration of the scent at least for the first 6 hours. This is where the leather is the main note but by this time the leather/vetiver is very light on the skin. Guerlain hid the leather in as a supporting role. It is this that keeps it smelling elegant/sophisticated instead of the countless teen designer scents out there on the market which are mostly blended poorly and typical.
If i could add one note in this fragrance that would make it my dream fragrance it would be cognac.
You cannot get anything better at this price point.

Tip: If you want the sweetness to last longer spray some on the chest under the shirt
the scent will make contact with the shirt your wearing and the sweet notes just stick onto the shirt. you can also spray your clothes. this way by the time the leather note is the main player around 6-7 hour mark the sweetness will still dominate as the leather really comes out on skin more Guerlain magic i guess.

This is a modern masterpiece from Guerlain French elegance.

Jack_Hunter

It opens up with a burst of citrus with a hint of bitter orange and quickly moves into a slightly sweet almond accord. This accord does start to smell like a liquor when the tonka melds with the almond. It's slightly creamy and after a hour or two you can smell the woodsy cedar and vetiver providing the foundation of the scent.

Now this is a very light and subtle fragrance with not much projection or sillage. After two to three hours it's a skin scent and disappears quickly after that. This is one of those fragrances where it's so light you can spray to your hearts content and never be in danger of it becoming cloying.

All in all a nice scent let down by poor performance on all levels.

skaccomatto

L'Homme Ideal EdT is a rather classy but easy-going almond-centered scent that opens with a rather fresh aromatic citrus opening immediately doused in the L'Homme Ideal signature amaretto (orange peel+almond) accord that stay throughout its life.

Don't get me wrong - this is a sweet scent; and it could not be otherwise with the almond+tonka combo. But it's not a cloying loud sweetness, rather a more sofisticated, subtle and intimate one; if I had to make a comparison, picture this: sipping an amaretto on the rocks at a fancy bar with lights down, rather than swallowing vodka & redbull at a loud club. Both can be fun, but there's some... difference.

As the scent progresses, the amaretto accord stays through, with some additional backbone provided by a woody note (cedar) and a very faint and slightly sour leather accord which give some more legs to this scent - on me it lasts around 5/6 hours, not the best performance in class.

I have the new bottle, so probably the reformulation; never smelled the original formulation, so I cannot draw comparisons. For what I smell, L'Homme Ideale has become my autumn staple this year. I came to discover Guerlain scents pretty late, but I'm rather impressed by the overall quality this house packs into their line-up for a decent price, considering its positioning on the market.

The bottle is nice in its simplicity, I though preferred the older design with the black outline. Batch code 1B01 from Feb 2021. Decent love in its current form; I'm very curious to try other bottles in this line.

Fragbit

Just tried it and wanted to share that it immediately reminded me the smell of freshly ironed clothes.

mohk

Master piece of French perfumery.

Fresh and sweet (at the same time)
Classy and playful (at the same time).

procatstinating

I have an old tester of this from the year it released that had sat there forgotten until now. It's a charismatic scent that I think could be pulled off by a woman as well, as I don't feel like I've put on someone else's perfume when I spray it on my skin.
It's a surprisingly gentle scent, the orange blossom and tonka bean really come through on me. The almond, citrus and rosemary are distant but constant. There's no sign of the leather until a bit later on when it dries down, but once it does come through it's a joy to get a whiff of it.
This scent is creamy and sweet but not cloying at all. Very warm and inviting. It sits close to the skin with little sillage, maybe it would be a different story if I had sprayed more. I see people calling it harsh in other reviews so maybe it's just that the juice in the tester I have has had years to develop. If I smelled it on a partner I think I would blush and giggle a little bit, lol.
I think this fragrance would really shine on crisp winter days but could be pulled off for any occasion. Love it!

FragStar

Opens with a bitter orange, almond combo that is both creamy and citrus filled. The feeling is elegant and warm. The fragrance has a backbone of tonka and cedar which provides structure, and a mild leather which breathes a masculine life throughout the longevity. The one stand out accord is the rosemary, which provides an unwelcome herbal nuance and somewhat spoils the fragrance altogether. A real shame as without this accord the scent would have been far better. What a shame.

IAmStaka

I'm sad to report that this has been reformulated. And not just a little bit. I have good memories with this scent and I saw the new presentation (bottle & box are changed) so I got myself a 150ml one, not having one for nearly 2 years.
It's been reformulated to hell. It is boring now, more generic, butchered down and it lacks that beautiful creamy almond it had before (when the box had all these letters on top of it). I ordered it, thinking only the box& bottle changed, but alas the juice inside is changed too. And not for the better. There's maybe 30% of the old lhomme ideal in there.
I'm surprised fragrantica hasn't made a separate page for the new one, which makes me lose faith in this website more and more every day. If the scent is different, its common sense to make a new page for it.
Huge disappointment and will never ever repurchase.
Also changing my rating from love to OK.

TurroLife

Perfect for formal occasions, date nights, and events of that type. This one is not a beast mode. On my skin it is long lasting, but the projection is mostly intimate, which makes it perfect for dates. Smells really good and different. It is not annoyingly sweet. This is niche quality in my opinion. Difficult to find on discounters, so if you ever see it, buy it. great value.

Vikingtop

Romantic sweet almond accord with a hint of citrus and a base of wood. A balance of sweetnes and freshness

purplenoon

L’Homme Ideal was such a game changer in my olfactive journey. It is a complex, temperamental fragrance that I am low-key obsessed with, without being the easiest of reaches nor, to be fair, a crowd-pleaser. Months after owning and using the “Ideal Man,” I will attempt to put him into words.

The composition features an aromatic, somewhat medicinal opening with a combination of bitter orange and rosemary. This is a fresh opening, and the moment where L’Homme Ideal is at its fizziest, although there is no denying that the effervescence of the bitter orange continues into the drydown. With the opening, L’Homme Ideal announces itself as a wonderful, elevated daytime scent, charismatic and playful but with a deep almond heart that is incredibly gentle, refined and potent. After the borderline festive opening, the fragrance settles into a creamy orange amaretto accord, retaining a certain vivacious bitterness from the rosemary, and a hint of leather. Those who don’t like sweet fragrances need not apply; for me, the idea of sweet amaretto on a bed of leather simply blew my mind.

I reserve L’Homme Ideal for daytime wear in cooler months. This is absolutely stunning as a wintertime day scent: it is truly an event to take this out into crisp snowy weather and bask in its orangey amaretto sillage. I also love wearing it for cocktail hour. This is a potent little thing — it’s not what people would consider a “beast” of a performer, but it is certainly a fragrance in my collection that I am very conscious about spraying no more than two or three times. L’Homme Ideal can be a little temperamental, and there has been times when it re-announced itself somewhat cloyingly during the day when I experienced a change in body or room temperature. I wouldn’t dare spray this in the summer, and even in fall (for which this is a very appropriate scent) I find this performs best in temperature-controlled environments.

I consider this EDT superior to the otherwise beloved EDP, since I find the cherry in that other formulation renders the composition unnecessarily heavy. That said, I am very curious to smell the Intense version, as I can imagine warm spices and amped up leather taking this sweet almond composition in interesting ways. As it stands, I find L’Homme Ideal EDT quite special in my collection, as well as the larger landscape of contemporary frags for men, especially among the designers. He makes his own way, is sweet but temperamental, somewhat rough around the edges, comfortable in an upscale bar but doesn’t leave his leather jacket too far away. A winner.

RLB1979

I was late to the game when I got this .....like this year late to the game, seems like Guerlain fragrances are becoming harder to find at least where I'm at anyways my original goal was to get the EDP or Extreme formulations but found this lone bottle of the EDT sitting at a local store so I snagged it up, and I'm glad I did this is beautiful scent the citrus notes combined with the Almond make this stunning combine that with the leather / woody base to smooth it out, even though cherry is not listed in the notes on here I defiantly get a cherry like note throughout the whole fragrance, If I ever come across the EDP or Extreme version I will most likely snag those too but this will hold me over until that day comes

StacyJames

Got a 5 ML decant of this. I tested on my wrist. First sniff I was transported to a Pancho’s Mexican buffet circa 1991 in Houston Texas…. To me this smells like when you open up store bought crunchy taco shells. I will never be able to get that out of my head. I know some people enjoy this, but I just can’t!!!!

Dt_vino

My god Guerlain just knows what their doing. The Ideal line is just so smooth, and well blended. The EDT comes across as extremely smooth, and silky almond dancing on a foundation of citrus, and leather. Such a gorgeous gentlemanly scent.

brokesta911

Guerlain L’homme Ideal (2014) - smokey almonds - I have always enjoyed Almond accords in perfume giving a rounded and woodsy character. #thierrywasser creates one that mixes it with more gourmand qualities of Tonka Bean. Thankfully, it’s not heavy nor boring as its contrasted by Citruses, Sour Cherry, herbal Rosemary, Orange Blossom on a base of Cedar and Vetiver. A modern masculine worth adding to your collection.

Hadad

An amazing unique scent, i really love the vanilla, leather and almond combination, sweet yet masculine, cozy and seductive, performance is good, i get about 8 hours.

Edit: it’s been a year, it lasts like 14 hours now

Alireza.D2

A gorgeous, sweet, boozy scent on leather base.
Opens sweet and sour but within 30 mins turn into sweetness and booziness and afterward the leather start to manifest.
What I get from it is a mixture of very faint citrus alongside with Almond, Rum , Amaretto , whisky, and leather .
Beautiful but works better on younger folks.
Scent:4.25/5
Projection:moderate
Longevity:+6 hrs
Occassion:more formal
Season: autumn nights
Age: best performance on 25-45 years old men.

This is like an orange blossom and almond garden. It brings the notes, it gives a nice day in coldish weathers. It's unique and very pleasant to wear.

Aveirah

with all the love and respect to my partnes, this perfume was at least 30% of why I fell for him.

Djedi

Not a bad release by Guerlain by any means. What I get is a spicy and near pungent opening with a dose of citruses, which quickly blend into a tonka-amaretto accord. A pleasant almond/amaretto liqueur like accord essentially. There is sweetness from the tonka but it isn't juvenile smelling or anything of that sort. I don't really get much leather from it, if at all. However the almond, though not nearly as enthralling as in Tonka Imperiale, is what makes this scent for me. The performance is average, could be a bit better if you ask me. Versatility is high.

My signature perfume that I want to smell constantly and never get bored for years, this perfume is timeless, you can always wear it even when you go to bed.Especially with its pyramidal form, it is like two different perfumes at opening and drydown. The sweet citrus scent at the opening slowly lends itself to amaretto. The nutty amaretto scent that shines over time fascinates the people around you, including you.So far, many people have asked about this fragrance to me.so I have a lot of friends that I met they asked me about this fragrance.my favorite part is to say the name that is as impressive as himself when a lady asks for the name of the perfume. le homme ideal

annasarahr121

This stuff is soapy! In fact, it reminds me of what I remember Irish Spring soap to smell like -- but I may be completely wrong about this because I haven't smelled Irish Spring soap in so many years. I get sweet almonds, orange blossom soapiness, bitter orange, and definitely aromatic rosemary. The scent is in the same general genre, I think, as both Burberry Brit, with its sweet oranges & almonds, and I find it a teeny reminiscent of Lalique Le Parfum, with its lavendery/bay note + vanilla, but just in the combination of aromatic & sweet, rather than in the actual notes. I've found, however, that L'Homme Ideal EDT does not last more than about an hour before becoming completely a skin scent, which is a big disappointment for something as expensive as this. : /

Perfect Shot

Great fragrance. Its versatility is awesome, can be used anytime anywhere and it will fit, however it will be best in office or work. It has just enough almond sweetness to be used by young people and be playful but also the woody and leather notes give the fragrance a more serious and respectable person.
Great quality fragrance. Probable best used for 20+ years in work situation or 25+ years any situation. Only problem is longevity which is not amazing, but still good. Probably around 6 hours.
Definitely worth buying

Jloveparfum

L'Homme Ideal is definitely my favourite...I love the way it smells on men. I have seen that he is also acclaimed by the female public and that they consider him unisex. This is not my case, I definitely enjoy it more on male skin. The opening is citrusy and aromatic followed by the prominent note of almond (which I love) accompanied by the warmth of the tonka bean giving way to a woody background becoming even more sensual on the dry down.

I prefer it over the EDP because the latter contains cherry and is much sweeter. However, the EDT has a very mild sweetness and smells very elegant.

Substantivity on skin reaches 6 hours with moderate to smooth diffusion.

TheWoodman

Not going to get all posh and snobby but this is divine. From the first spray, which gives fresh citrus and almond, to the very slow dry down, this is the best value scent I have plus I have not yet bumped into any of the aventus crowd who have not asked me what I am wearing. I don’t tell them. It gets me compliments everywhere and it’s very different to the Sauvage mob too. I have always liked to be different and this hits the mark plus I just love it
The almond really is amazing and it gives me a lift too as a bonus. Highly recommend

Invasionbg

What a crazy powdery, leathery, nutty composition 🔥
Silly me, I sold my 100ml bottle long time ago (but kept the 20ml atomiser and shower gel 😄)
Maybe the reason why I sold it, was that I can’t really find occasion to wear it. I don’t consider this as a potential signature scent for me because is way too dress up, professional fragrance while I am more of a sporty - elegant dude.

Anyway, highly recommended to at least spray it on your skin and give it few hours to appreciate this clever perfumery 👌

HER30

Female's opinion, testing the L'Homme Ideal EDT for my husband. I get pine-y rosemary, spice, cedarwood, and citrus from this. Very masculine. As a female this was one of my top favorite male fragrances but unfortunately, my husband didn't prefer it (he likes fresher). For what it's worth - I find this one very attractive and would recommend.

Mr Moustache

You should add Vanille, Patchouli, Turkish Rose & of course Cherry in the ingredients.
Those ingredients are confirmed by Thierry Wasser himself.

MustachioedRake

First time I sampled this, I thought, "That's kind of plain." But after trying it a few times, plain became smooooooth. Opening like someone drizzling a mandarin orange over a focaccia with rosemary: it's sweet but has got a touch of savory. Heart notes in the air are the white, sweet cloud of a sweets shop; smelled close to skin they're like a bittersweet cocktail of apricot. Personally, I can't smell almond in it, but then again when I bite into an almond the nut doesn't strike me as particularly fragrant. Base notes manage to be sexy without being animalic: a sweet, brown paste, like Hoisin sauce spread over soft leather.

Ray009

I have the entire L'Homme Ideal line and this one is my favorite. I seem to be in a minority thou since most people prefer the EDP or the Extreme one. I see it more of a spring and summer evening fragrance.

GetGUD

This wasn't the L'homme Ideal that I wanted (that was the EDP) but the fact that I found a single bottle of any from the line in my local store made this a very easy pick up.

So luxurious & even though I'm pretty new to fragrances (at least in the capacity I'm at right now), this feels like a very unique scent (not counting the flankers).

I haven't worn it yet aside from a spritz on my wrist just so I could witness the opening & dry down, so I can't speak on the performance, but one of my best friends is coming over for their birthday on the weekend, so I'll bust it out then, and I really can't wait. This is so gorgeous and someday I will get my hands on the EDP, but for now, I'm more than happy with the OG EDT.

* Addendum: I like this a lot but I find it a very subtle smell, I don't seem to get much from it, even after using 5 or 6 sprays on my neck (even after I used moisturizer & let that dry). Am I the only one to find this to be that way? *

PREJUDICE: None really. They say Guerlain is great but this was my first Guerlain at the time.

1st IMPRESSION: Sniffed it at dept. store and really liked it immediately. This really stood out among the other ones I smelled. It's got spice and poise, a complex character. A little bit sweet and vanilla. Mass appealing but unique, signature scent worthy. Good for cold weather.

2nd WEAR. Man this is glorious. Perfect winter/Christmas scent. A hint of sweetness but it's not a sweet fragrance - maybe the orange and rosemary save it. Rich, lush. I've always loved almonds to eat, but never thought they smell good on you as well.

3rd WEAR. Oh dang, it does get cloying to my hypersensitive nose after 2-3 hours. What a shame I'm so sensitive to sweetness, this is a beautiful fragrance. Like.

4th WEAR. I'm not giving up on this. I'm training my nose to accept the sweetness. I'm ready to go the extra mile to desensitize myself so that I can love L'Homme Ideal as I was meant to, as we all are meant to.

VERDICT: It's a masterful fragrance. Rich, multifaceted, classy, has a personality but will be pleasing to most of humanity. Personally I'd only wear this in the winter because I'm abnormally sensitive to sweetness, but I'm rating this a rare 'Love' and will be recommending this to everybody.

What happened with me? I bought a full bottle of the Intense version - Intense hasn't the same fantastic fresh opening, but it's slightly less sweet and has a gorgeous smoky dry down. The EdT will always have a place in my heart.

Vikkinca

Two hours in and I am smelling Midnight In Paris😲💖 I think it may be the almond, tonka and leather that's responsible for that. This goes straight into my wish list. Have to get a bottle.

There was no harsh, bitter opening for me. For some reason it took a while before I smelled anything, but when I did it was a pleasant citrusy, Tom Ford Metallique type sweetness. L'Homme Ideal stays very close to the wearer, not much projection here. Perfect as a cuddling, sensual date night fragrance.

I can't stop smelling my arm😊 Absolutely loving this stunning Guerlain creation🥰

piacrdn

Definitely signature scent worthy! Prominent bitter orange on the opening which dries down to a nice, rich almond, tonka bean, & leather base. Great for cold weather. Moderate projection but sillage is incredible. Longevity is moderate as it starts to weaken into a skin scent after the 3rd hour. Could be because I have the newer bottle, but I honestly can't be sure since I don't have the older one to compare it with. Smells way more expensive for what it's worth--and I bought it at retail. Overall I think it's worth collecting the entire line. My fave is the EDP but this is a close second.

I had this in my trade post. The Ideal EdC is one of my signature scents, but the EdP never bonded with me and this one seemed too sweet last time I sprayed it.
I am wearing it today by chance, before someone asks for it in trade. And on this cold, brisk, windy day it smells so much better than I remember. The opening is softer and more orange forward. The mid is reminding me of pleasant Italian amaretto liqueurs.
Thank you all for not requesting this in trade. This goes back to the winter shelf and will be worn quite often when the wind is high and the temperature low. This will be a good scent for any weather that is not hot.
i am very glad I did not give up on this bottle. I have many Guerlains, and I seem to really love the Thierry Wasser lines.

KFaizi

Have tried edp, cologne and extreme version, to me this is the best among the L’ Homme ideal line up thus far. Thank you.

TonyG

Honestly, I don’t like this at all. I was supposed to order the EDP but got this one instead. This smells like Amaretto and gives me a headache. The bitter orange is way too bitter and I’ll probably get hate for this but this smells like an old man. I’m still very intrigued by the edp tho as I love the idea of cherries in a fragrance, which is pretty rare. It’s a no for me tho.

3NO7

I love the way this stuff smells. A juicy orange with almond and cedar in the base. The problem is it doesn’t last as long as I’d like.

It lasts 3 to 4 hours on my skin and then fades into such a minuscule skin scent that I have to dig my nose into my arm just to catch the tiniest whiff.

Even on clothes it just doesn’t last long.

You really gotta overspray the hell out of this one. Which is fine it ain’t gonna bother anyone.

fanzypants

Opposite to the reviewer before me I tried and loved two flankers before wearing this today. I fell in love with the cologne and used it the most although it is a bit sweeter and heavier than most "colognes" i wear. The intense edt is a signature of mine and something I wore so much over the last year. Living in Canada, it is great at cutting through the cold.

I thought this original one would be as well but I cannot detect it without spraying on my outer layer of clothing. Similar potency to LIDG edt new batch, my bottle of ideal edt turns into a skin scent within the first thirty minutes and sticks around in close proximity for 6+ hours.

On paper and clothes, this projects beastly and I appreciate that with skin chemistry it mellows a bit. The almond, tonka and leather are gorgeous and the vetiver base keeps these super versatile for almost every season. I think I can pull this off in warmer weather than the cologne and will try it in 2022 summer given it is less sweet.

The combo in here fools you in to thinking you're wearing a tobacco fragrance which is pretty cool. I love guerlain, I haven't had a fail yet and this is my fifth bottle and second favourite after ideal intense edt. Just so beautiful and classy, you can wear them as your second skin.

destlund

I wanted to try the original before any flankers (and I found a good deal), and I wasn't disappointed.

The opening is a lovely little parade of exactly the notes described, classic and modern blended together harmoniously, not in contrast, but sort of in sequence. Edible but savory, herbal but not fern-y, even slightly aquatic but far from "blue." The mid mellows into a friendly everyday casual scent that could dress up and be fine. Not a head-turner, but unique.

And the almond? It's not marzipan or amaretto or anything so crass. It's a creamy-fruity-nutty maypole for the other notes to dance around.

mephisto_969

I must say Gurlain they really captured the "Ideal Man" in a bottle, as they described in the name.
The creaminess of the almond is the key here, mixed with some bitterness in the background from orange blossom, rosemary and bitter orange that give a mysterious vibe, and a masculine leather base to really staple the "Man" in this..
Still to test the performance throughout the day, but the projection on this one is moderate, people should come fairly close for them to really appreciate it, but the scent trail that this can leave will really make them do want to come closer.
Perfect for a date night, spring and fall seasons approved, not a summer frag by all means, and though some can say you can pull this off in the winter I fairly disagree if it is a really brisk day; projection will be even weaker.
Final note on this (pun intended): the blend of this and the quality of the oils in this are HIGH QUALITY, and for that price: This is a steal for real.
Update: Projection lasted 2 hours, then it becomes a skin scent with some whiffs that you can catch from time to time. If you want this to project for more hours you need to go with couple more sprays, but too much of this frag is not recommended as it messes up with its profile.

gentel

Creamy almonds with orange and rosemary is a great combination. I found this to be very similar to Mancera's Aoud Lemon Mint. This has lower performance but the orange and rosemary are good qualities and there's some vanilla in the drydown too that this has as an advantage. Overall I think that Aoud Lemon Mint is ultimately better than this due to its stronger performance but this is still 5/5

A nerd named Luis

Im very surprised by this fragrance. The opening is really fresh and the subtle bitterness is a nice addition. The mids are full of tonka and almond. But here's the catch: its not overly sweet and there is still citrus and bitterness in the background. I think this makes it a good summer scent aswell! the drydown is clean and fresh, but now its a washed clothes fresh. All in all, this is a good allrounder like prada l'homme. You can wear this any day, any time, and its not offensive, so its also perfect as an office scent. To me l'homme ideal leans more towards a summer/office fragrance so im probably gonna wear it mostly in the summer or in the office. But as i said, this is (imho), a good allrounder like prada l'homme. Have a great day! :)

Guerlain quality always makes me feel special

Sweet Fall (Thierry Wasser, 2014)

Scentrack: The Robert Glasper Trio – So Beautiful

L’Homme Ideal immediately starts with a pronounced almond note paired with Tonka bean, the hallmark of the line. A pale citrus note is present at the opening, reminding me of some orange peel dessert. The almond-Tonka bean combo gives the impression of marzipan or sweet Italian liquor amaretto. I have been very fond of benzaldehyde smell of almonds since my art classes in elementary school and glue we used in our creations. The rosemary note of Mediterranean is the key during the opening phase - it gives the balance and juxtaposition toward the other gourmand notes. During the middle phase of the fragrance, amaretto and Tonka bean with some tobacco nuances are even more pronounced, while the other notes gradually fade. Base notes of cedar and vetiver are well-hidden and revealed after Tonka lets them out. While being a gourmand, L’Homme Ideal is surprisingly easy to wear even in business occasions, and that is achieved by meticulous balancing.
L’Homme Ideal is sweet, but not overly sweet. Classy, yet romantic. Almost linear yet complicated enough. Not ideal, but ideal for fall.

It took me time to understand this fragrance. I was doubting a lot about it, but then, after few tests it grew on me a lot. What a quality... What a original idea for a fragrance in times, where everything has been invented already. This fragrance it takes you on a journey. It starts sweet, then become a bit fresher, then it changes to kinda powdery and very professional and classy smell.

What a crazy fragrance this is. I recently tried Ideal Cool and oh God, it's amazing blue ish sort of fragrance but it's got the ideal dna. It is absolutely amazing, very versitile, fresh with just a touch of sweetness. I am looking forward to try the whole line. 😍

jjustinn

Some friendships begin with a spark, like an idea sprung spontaneously in the mind- surprising, invigorating, and joyously unexpected.

Over time however, the novelty of these kinds of encounters often sours into the realization of differences, discordant qualities emerge as friction in place of freshness.

Other friendships begin difficult, but blossom into something lasting and profound, while others are never a challenge, but rarely move past much more than an acquaintance.

Rare are the bonds forged easily, brilliantly, that move through both sorrow and success. Few are those made family by the bond of loyalty and love, quietly abiding in all circumstances.

And it is these most meaningful of relationships that are evoked by this fragrance.

There is a warmth here that is familiar, present, sweet but not cloying, and always bright. There is no melancholy here at all, no moments of weariness, no trying to hard and stretching at a contrived or fake appearance.

From the beginning to the end this is the kind of scent that stands by you, not behind or in front of you, or obfuscating your own presence in a loud or obtrusive nature.

The almond is not quite gourmand, and though there is a creamy, milky presence with the vanilla, it is never overbearing. The late arrival of smooth Vetiver is like a profound conversation that improves deep into the night. It begins wonderfully, if not quite totally original, but moves in the dry down from strength to strength into greatness.

And in the quiet moments, in times of reflection, once the day has dawned and summer begins its final stride into the darkness of fall and winter, arises real olfactory companionship.

8B1M3

A delicate almond aroma with a hint of Bailey's cream and Amaretto comes out of every spritz of L'Homme Ideal by Guerlain. A perfect balance: not too overbearing yet neither weak, just the right intensity. People will compliment your fragrance only upon coming at close range, since its trail is next to non-existent (as a classy, polished lotion should be). Very safe to wear. Formal and discreet. Great for dates, job interviews, important business gatherings or social VIP events. Best if used in cooler months, particularly during Fall given its tendency towards the sweeter/woody side of things. A gourmand lotion that will never disappoint nor cause the slightest controversy. Target population: 35+

Aconite23

The almond + tonka combination smells heavenly. It's just the right amount of sweet where even wearing the fragrance in summer is fine. It's super unique to people not into fragrances so it'll garner quite a bit of positive attention, sometimes too much. Buy at your own risk! 😉

waldoseye

Wonderful opening, I love how there’s such a variety of notes creating a very multifaceted experience. Citruses herbs almonds leather woods all combine to form a sweet suede citrus that is neither too dark, nor too sweet, nor too airy and light. You can wear this in all cool weather and even summer nights.

I think the cloud is much better than sniffing up close. Up close the combination of so many notes comes off as just a bit too weird. In the cloud, everything is smoothed out nicely.

For me after about hour 2/3 it greatly loses its appeal. Although it still smells nice the brightness is gone and it doesn’t really excite me as much. Vetiver makes a strong appearance at the end which I do not really enjoy.

7/10 fragrance. 9/10 for the first couple hours. Still ok because the dry down is so smooth and inoffensive that by 2hrs it pretty much will layer up with whatever I spritz on top- this way I don’t live with hrs 3-8

Seuni

I don't know why you guys wouldn't want to wear this in the summer - for me it's an all season, best for spring/autumn, but I wear this during summer just the same. It's very good, for a citrus fragrance it lasts very well, and the projection is OK, nothing extravagant. It does remind me of my Mancera Aoud Lemon Mint a lot, but Guerlain is a bit sweeter, and the almond is much creamier than actually nutty. Also, Mancera won't be liked by everyone, while this one is much less funky and offensive (and it doesn't last 12+ hours and project enough that 3 sprays+ is a risk).

Berliner

I really tried to like this - it has one of the most beautiful bottles I've ever seen, apart from anything else, and I love one or two others in the series. But forced to describe it, I'd say it was like someone had had an accident with a gallon of Bird's Custard in a saddle-shop. And that the cleaner has gone AWOL and won't be back for hours.

A no, I'm afraid.

Kingonaire

Intoxicating, the Almonds come screaming in your face, i really love this one.

Aous

love from the first sniff happy to have it

MarkoPeeko

This is divine. I get the references to Amaretto. The almond stands out with a lovely leathery base support. 2 hours in and it’s turned into this beautiful sweetish, woody scent. I can make out a herb, but I’d be hard pushed to confirm if it’s rosemary. Projection is close range, the longevity is as good now as it was when I first sprayed. For the price, it’s a bargain buy. This one’s up there in my top 5 Guerlain scents.

ambergeese

Oh, I had such high hopes for this one. The opening is nothing short of bizarre. The rosemary-floral-citrus accord punches you in the face.

"This is a man!" the rosemary yells.

"A delicate one!" the floral whispers.

"Why am I here?" the citrus asks.

That opening really is the everything-and-the-kitchen-sink of modern masculine fragrance top notes, and the warm gourmand backing makes it all even more bizarre.

The drydown is this fragrance's redeeming quality; it mellows to a very edible tonka-almond chord. This phase still isn't my thing, but it does smell nice.

Without the bizarre opening, this would be boring and inoffensive. As it were, this is an affront on one's senses.

The ideal man, indeed.

Steven221283

This has a lovely amaretto scent. I can smell the almond throughout the lifetime of the fragrance. I pick up on the tonka and leather too, a little cedar and the odd floral note coming through now and then. This has lasted on my skin for about 6 hours today and is just about dying off. Projected reasonably well for the first few hours before becoming a skin scent that was still pleasing close up for another few hours. Today is the third time I've tried the scent and I'm now looking forward to buying a bottle and using it through the autumn and winter months.

One last note: I personally find this much more pleasing than the EDP which made me nauseous. I find it strange that it seems to be the more popular (review wise) of the two.

alenarjad

I’ll keep an open mind and try again at some point, but right now for me it’s a meh. At first I was excited about what appeared to be big wafts of pleasant red candied apple. This was blended with some warm spiciness and slight floral notes. As it developed I certainly got the creamy sweet almond extract and vanilla. However, I wasn’t really able to appreciate this much as it seemed a bit crowded with the floral notes continuing to come through and the incoming sweet powdery overtone. A little cedar and sweet leather near the dry down, but again, drowned by what I’m considering as a powdery ‘meh’. No citrus or rosemary to my nose.

Don’t get me wrong, this is a nice fragrance. From what I hear, and what motivated me to test it, this is a classic men’s fragrance. Definitely smells like what I think most non-fragrance nerds would consider as a stereotypical men’s fragrance.

I think I’m just looking for something more unique. So, pass for now.

DAMIELLO

I often review on fragrantica the day i use the last drop of a fragrance.so, what can I say..as much as i enjoy since 7h the beauty of this smell as much i am sorry that the bottle is empty. I owned the edp version twice but frankly i prefer this one.
Without further talking this is a 10 out 10 imho

heylegros

I got a decant of L’homme ideal by Guerlain, alongside several other decants, as I am spending way too much on full bottle blind buys, and trying to kick the habit.

Call me crazy, but to my nose, L’homme idéal is like a cross between Layton by Parfums de Marly, with that blend of citrusy notes and that almond note that is very sweet and almost vanilla-like, and Encre Noire Sport, with that dominant vetiver enhanced with citrusy notes to give it a fresher spin, and those woody notes that smell like sitting a saw mill filled with freshly cut, dry lumber. Rarely do I get this odd impression that two familiar fragrances were blended into one, but this is one of those cases. Full disclosure here, I'd pick Layton over this on any day of the week, but I enjoy this more than I like Encre Noire Sport.

In the opening, that sweet almond note really stands out and, as I mentioned, almost feels like a vanilla note. I assume that the tonka bean note is partly responsible for this, because the almond note does not come off as bitter at all. L’homme idéal has a sweet opening, and those middle notes stand out immediately. It is a beautiful opening.

Vetiver arises through the dry down, while a subtle leathery note slowly builds up. The leather note becomes more prominent when L’homme idéal has become a skin scent, but once it has dried down, this is mostly a vetiver scent with a hint of sweetness and a tinge of freshness from the citrusy opening. I don’t know if my nose is more sensitive to vetiver than the average nose, but mine catches quite a strong vetiver note as soon as it dries down.

As I said, L’homme idéal reminisces of two different perfumes that I really enjoy (I absolutely love Layton and like Encre Noire Sport quite a bit). Honestly, the blend of vetiver and vanilla-like almond/tonka bean really caught me off-guard, since the reviews I read did not seem to point to such a vetiver-oriented scent. And perhaps it may be that I’ve worn Layton so much and have grown accustomed to its array of notes that adding vetiver to that mix takes me away from my comfort zone, but I do wear and genuinely enjoy vetiver fragrances like Terre d’Hermès and Encre Noire à l’extrême, so this has nothing to do with that specific note, which can be polarizing. To be fair, I’ve worn this only a few times, and it was incredibly hot outside, so I do intend to give it a try in the fall, as it is probably best suited for that season.

Despite what I said above, L’homme idéal is not an off-putting fragrance by any stretch of the imagination. It is really well blended overall, and I’m impressed at how non-linear it is. It is on the gourmand side in its early stage, and it morphs into a leathery vetiver, classy scent. All in all, this is interesting for sure, and it delivers a really pleasant scent throughout the experience that it offers.

In terms of performance, I am a bit disappointed, because longevity is quite poor. Moreover, the stage that I most enjoyed (the opening) doesn’t last a long time either. I suspect, however, that I may get a different experience in colder weather. I’m very curious to find out. Also, it only seemed to project moderately.

In a few words: A cross between Layton and Encre Noire Sport.
Pros: Non-linear, classy scent. Beautiful opening, and very interesting transition through the dry down.
Cons: Disappointing performance, opening fades away too quickly. Vanilla/almond-tonka bean and vetiver accords may take some time to get accustomed to (at least for me).
Overall rating (out of five stars): ★★★

Kru23

A very creamy almond. It reminds me a lot of disaronno liqueur or a Soco Amaretto lime drink.

komail

Beautiful scent that can be worn all year around. This is very versatile and long lasting. It would work for in practically every situation and for any age. Fresh almonds and tonka beans. Highly recommended.

BigWhiff

I thoroughly enjoy this fragrance. The opening burst of orange and citrus blends well with the nutty almond. The tonka, leather, vetiver, and cedar base gives this nice creamy, subtle touch of woods to underline the opening. Its a very unique and well blended scent in my wardrobe. The projection and longevity is the only thing holding it back. For me it projects moderately but only for about an hour. And within 2-3 hours I cannot detect a hint of this on my skin, and only a faint remembrance on my clothes. Due to this, Lhomme Ideal EDT is a "like" and not a "love" but the scent itself is spectacular.

slavemaster69

Love the smell but performance could be improved

Guccipordior

Oh man, this smells so good. This would be a cool signature scent- except for hot days- if you wanna be different and stand out, but still want to smell somewhat mass appealing. The almond is absolutely perfect, the smell is so good and it evokes a dormant memory deep within my subconscious that I just cannot uncover. It reminds me of something, someone, or somewhere.

This is such a good scent, I can't even describe it, this and the Cologne just blew me away so much. This isn't even expensive, but you'll smell like you know what you're doing when you wear this, you know what I mean? Not that many people would know it, but this one smells unique enough to stand out, but it's still extremely hard to dislike, in my opinion. Guerlain is top notch stuff, this is a 10/10, don't even hesitate whatsoever to buy it. I got a 3.3oz for $50, it's easily worth triple that. This is a love that I haven't felt for a fragrance in a long time.

confluent qualia

Got a tester vial of this. Oh my. I have never smelled anything quite like this. It's so delicious that I want to eat it. The opening smells almost exactly like cherry limeade to me. It's sweet but not cloying. As it slowly fades, there is a lingering cherry/almond, tonka, and leather sweetness. After a few hours, all that remains to me is the tonka. I'm not sure if I'd personally wear this, but I appreciate it's uniqueness and juiciness so much that I'm addicted to smelling the tester vial!

DairS

Sexy almond goodness, feel like this is fairly slept on due to its host of popular flankers. Put some respect on the EDT. Best for autumn/winter imo and can certainly be used for a date.

brokesta911

Guerlain L’homme Ideal (2014) - smokey almonds - I have always enjoyed Almond accords in perfume giving a rounded and woodsy character. @thierrywasser creates one that mixes it with more gourmand qualities of Tonka Bean. Thankfully, it’s not heavy nor boring as its contrasted by Citruses, herbal Rosemary, Orange Blossom on a base of Cedar and Vetiver. A modern masculine worth adding to your collection.

phpbb

This almond in the EDT is far more interesting than the cherry in the EDP.

swkeatley

Fumes of orange cordial cocentrate, sniffed in the neck of the bottle. Cake crumbs, biscuit tins, snail-trails of marzipan. Rumours of boozy breath. All lovely.

I love Ideal L'homme line and this one is quite really nice in summer days. 60% Ideal EDP + 40% Ideal Cologne = 100% Ideal EDT

Thedon81

What a stunning fragrance.

It opens with a kick of bitter orange and rough torn rosemary (not the leaf but the stem) . For me the almond is there from the start but as a background note which then develops and takes over moreso through the mids.
The end of the top and the bulk of the middle is dominated by almond blossom to my nose, fresh, light, honeyed floral but green and with a sweetness that isn't overpowering. Behind it is the vetiver which gives it an earthy grounding. It's not a smoky vetiver but again green and clean. The almond nut is creamy but not dominant and cloying.
The base is intimate and sexy, smooth almond nut hits once more but with woods and leather accompanying. I can also get fresh cut almond wood. The base is where the similarities to the other flankers comes forward, being not far from the edp at this point.

The projection and sillage is moderate to be honest, it's more of an intimate scent overall, but it's definitely adequate. (As the vetiver is somewhat subtle overall in ideal, I find if I want more projection and more body overall this layers very well with Guerlains Vetiver. It makes the scent more traditionally masculine I suppose but does add a great deal extra sillage and doesn't mess with the scent too much. It's a nice blend).

What I love the most with ideal edt is how it develops, the layers move to one side and support the previous throughout the dry down. It maintains its character but changes enough to be interesting.

It's maybe a bit more of a cool weather scent but it's absolutely fine in warmer weather, where in the right climate the white flowers and rosemary feel fresher and warm. It feels great in the evening and works brilliantly at dinner.

This scent is the essence of walking through the almond blossom in the spring in the Spanish Sierra, on a warm afternoon, brushing though the wild herbs and kicking up the dust underfoot. Its poetry.

Another masterpiece from Guerlain. 10/10 and definitely second bottle worthy.

AA4102

I thought I'd love this as much as I Iove L'homme Ideal Cologne. I guess it's the bright citruses that did if for me with the cologne version. Also, the drydown is not quite similar as others have mentioned here - I prefer the cologne hands down. EDT reminds me of Valentino Uomo Intense IMO.

Edit after 1 year lol: This is just WONDERFUL! I now get what ppl have been raving about this OG lhomme. ❤️

catgotnose

Almond is there from the start, nice and realistic. Dry down is smooth tonka cream. Definitely a favorite. It has a prominent sillage. It can be an easy choice. Suitable for the cooler seasons. Better than its flankers.

BackToTheEighties

Nice job, Thierry! Comforting and cosy. Great for night time and cuddle time. But cuddle in a not too sexy way. It is almost *too* innocent. I love the opening. As if somebody baked a pie with sweet fruit and almonds and some vanilla and spices. After the opening, it goes into drydown pretty fast, on me. Stays there for 3 or 4 hours. Wished it had just a bit more silage after the opening. And maybe this Ideal Man could use just a touch of pepper in the ... to spice things up a little bit to avoid the risk of getting too ideal and - eventually - boring...

piyux

Guerlain L’Homme Ideal EDT opens with a moderate projection of sweet, citrus, nutty, and spicy notes. The opening is delectable, mild, bright, and natural. The citruses, almond, tonka, and rosemary, are the opening noticeable notes. The almond is a prominent note, the almond in this fragrance comes across as mild, nutty, natural, and milky. The bitter orange and citruses create an orange and bergamot like note, sweet, delectable, and slightly sour. Very close is the rosemary, herb-like, spicy, aromatic, and slightly minty. The tonka is the last of the noticeable opening notes, it comes across as very sweet, brown sugar-like, with hints of vanilla, caramel, cherry, and almond. As the fragrance moves towards its dry down, the leather develops mostly as a projecting accord, without any animalic or pungent nuances. The rest of the notes, orange blossom, vetiver, and cedar, are support notes, the add a faint floral, green, and woody touch in the far back of the fragrance. The fragrance has a noticeable opening to dry down change, the opening favors the citruses and its sweetness, however, and as time passes, this citrusy sweetness recedes while the tonka dry and caramel sweetness grows. Also, the leather develops towards the dry down boosting and projecting the fragrance. Opening is a bit too waxy for me, reminded me of the wax that i got from all the iris colognes (DH, Prada L'homme, VU), luckily that fades pretty quickly. The sour cherry and vanilla is nice. I'm not one for sweet and gourmand, but this one is kept a bit more neutral by the citruses that really start to come out a few minutes in. Usually its citruses first which fade to a denser drydown, which would have ruined it for me, but this actually lightens up after a few minutes and makes it much more enjoyable and versatile to my nose. The spicy woods in the background make it that i don't feel like this is feminine at all, but a female could certainly pull it off. A big like, not a love for me b/c not my general type of scent, but for a sweet frag lover this would be a love, and very unique and well blended to boot

pussycat01

The opening of L’Homme Ideal is a blast of almond and woody spice. In the background is a sweetness that is quite nice and flanked by what smells like a leather note. Projection wise, it’s moderate. It’s not an monster but it does the job pretty well. Overall, I think L’Homme Ideal is great. The longevity could be better but aside from that, it smells fantastic, and is very well put together.
scent 9/10 beautyful
projection 6/10 so so
sillage 7/10 ok
longevity 6/10 ok
price 7/10 Guerlain quality so cant complain.

Big_Willy_Style

@chesco there is no cherry note in this frag. Check the scent profile. You're smelling almond, if you don't know you're misplacing cherry for almond, maybe you should relax and try to refine your sense of note recognition. You sound like a child critiquing Caravaggio paintings saying how much they suck. It sounds ridiculous. The drydown is very similar to Herod.

eblanes

this is a lovely and beautiful scent! it's smooth and so well blended. also, I don't get the cherry note in the edt, and neither do i get the leather. for me, it's more the (very mild) citrus that makes it shine at the beginning, and then the pleasing sweetness of the almond and tonka, which give it a well rounded character. as a fragrance in universal terms, I love it!

my only problem is i don't find it "masculine" at all. and everyone i've asked to smell it in my surroundings has the same reaction: this is a (lovely) woman's perfume! don't get me wrong, i love unisex fragrances and have no love for gender boundaries in fragrances. perhaps it's just where I come from we all grew up with our mothers, aunts and grandmothers wearing Guerlain fragrances, and the dna of the house is still too present in the edt, which makes this fragrance feel so familiar to us. if pressed, i would say the "feminine" vibe comes from a "powdery" afterscent that appears right after the citrusy opening, attached to the tonka and almond, but also the gourmandish leaning tone.

however, i do not get the same "feminine" vibe from any of the flankers! the leather (and cherry) is more prominent in the edp, and the citrus in the cologne. also, the mint dominates the cool. haven't smelled the intense yet, or the new extreme. I love, own and wear these three flankers, which I prefer over the edt og. i wear the cologne and mint versions in the spring/summer, and the edp in the fall/winter.

but because i love smelling it so much, i gave it to my wife who loves its classy vibe.

LeSuedois

Classy, quite versatile, sexy, sweet yet masculine. I really like this fragrance, as kind of a "back up" to YSL's "L'Homme" and "La Nuit de L'Homme", not necessarily because it's very similar to these two, but because - to me - they kind of reflect the same mood, so I tend to use them at the same kind of occasions. Like these, even though it has got a lot of character and a unique scent, it still feels rather discreet, so you can use it in many different settings without it feeling inappropriate.

DrNDJas

Sweet men's fragrances are not usually my thing. I tend to avoid the syrupy sweet teenagery stuff, but I love Guerlain and decided to order this one blind....
After the first spray....oh no, what have I done? This thing is just too much. I enjoy the EDP and EDC but this one is just too loud, too strong, too sweet. Its going right back on eBay tomorrow.
An hour later....hmm, this has an emerging spiciness that is quite nice. Still, too sweet for me.
An hour later...well, this kind of smells good.
An hour later...respray, just to get the opening accord again...dang, that smells really good.
An hour later....I'm at a club, getting attention from females 20 years younger than me
An hour later...I'm downloading Snapchat and using words like "Lit", "Fire" and "Extra"
Curse you Guerlain.

Chesco

One of the first frags ive bought during my fragrance journey this Summer.

I was so excited about this because it smelt like cherries, and bought it on the same day in the store, boy was that a regrettable decision.
Today, i hate this frag.
The cherry note is synthetic, so that sickening sweet cherry scent that's in cough syrup, cheap female body sprays, and cherry candies. Not a scent to smell like, not for a man, not for a woman.
Honestly, this is a discounter's $20 juice.

A huge positive is that this is the BEST atomizer ive ever used in my new 50 bottle collection! The spray is wide, slow, even and smooooooth! Wished other companies would use this amazing atomizer.
Bottle is really nice, you can easily see how much liquid is left, and really nice texture to the quality glass.
Lid has a nice grip, a durable plastic that makes me wish it was magnetic to give the nice bottle the respect it deserves, not to mention be a lot easier to put the cap away instead of 2 fisting it.

I sprayed this once in the summer, and smell the atomizer every week for 4 months, and i STILL smell the strong cherry note from the atomizer. Today is the first time in those 4 months i sprayed it on my skin, nothing has changed about my opinion.
Scent is extremely strong, moderate projection and lasts forever.

This is the EDT. When i was in the store i was sooo nose-blind from testing 30 other frags that the EDP lost it's cherry note and i wasn't impressed with it, so i bought the EDT instead. What makes this special is the cherry note. What makes this frag gross is also the cherry note, it's synthetic, cloyingly sweet. :/

Synthetic Cherry + Sweet liquid Almond alcohol + the smallest hint of leather/ceder combo that's overpowered by the 1st 2 notes mentioned. I don't recommend this guys. Will be trying the EDP and the Extreme flankers in the future.
Cherries are harvested late summer/early fall, and that's when id recommend whoever owns this to wear it. I do.not.like.this.at.all!
I would bet my own money that this has been reformulated hardcore, because the note pyramid is NOT what i smell, and the reviewers below me are smelling a dna completely different from me. This was from the company itself and i paid foolishly full price for it as i was new to the frag game and didn't know any better paying $150 with tax.

One of the best IMO, starts with citruses, then turn to sweet almond kind of scent. Charming and addictive.

slave for scents

So well blended. The citrus and rosemary at the opening, morphing into almond and tonka, with leather, vetiver and cedar in the drydown. It certainly is unique, no scent comes close to smelling like it (except for the L'HI flankers). More of a mature, sophisticated man's scent. Longevity of the scent is average, lasting 3 to 4 hours on my skin, before becoming a skin scent.

caifan

L'Homme Ideal is a woody and spicy fragrance, almost oriental.

It has a slightly fresh and sweet opening. The almond and tonka bean add a slightly "Gourmand" touch. I like the residual aroma that results from the leather accord, combined with notes of woods, almond and Tonka.

For some reason it reminds me a bit of Opium Pour Homme.

ideal.my.fav

well i have 2014 batch 100 ml.

the openin has a weird citrusy smell and it goes like 30 mins. new versions goes like 2 mins when i tried it at sephora. after that the magic happens and here comes the almond. definetly loved the way almond smells. its soft, sexy, masculine. i dont know why but 2014 bottles juice is a bit green tone. maybe because of the heavy citrus.

scent 9/10
projection 7/10

Nursemike

This is a gorgeous fragrance from start to finish and it doesn't really smell like anything on the market. Gets a lot of compliments from work.

Miami_Scents

This is an amazing scent. Sweet oriental territory with the leather. Slightly gourmandy with the almond cherry nuance. But be warn from a modern POV my 18yr old sister says I smell like our grandpa. So I would highly recommend this for a more formal occasion or date night with your girl and her parents. I get moderate longetivity 5-7hrs but how long is a date???? So no complain from me. I say, if you're under 25 you can skip on this one. Try it for yourself tho. Don't blind buy

TheMostSavage

Pros and cons to this one. Pros-it smells sweet and sophisticated and will make you smell like you have class and taste. Cons- it's a little too sweet and synthetic for my taste. It can be a little stomach churning.

So I get a nice composition of tonka and almond, and I swear there's a hint of cherry in this although it says blood orange? Which I don't make out at all. It smells like sweet tonka top notes with a base note of almond and a faint hint of cherry and boozy leather there in the distance. That's about it. The performance isn't amazing on this but I guess it's an edt so it is what it is.

This is strictly dress up and formal wear only. Not casual, not club, not really even date. But formal. Wear this to a dinner ball, or a wedding even maybe, or a classy restaurant. This is classy and upscale event only. I wouldn't reach for this in any other occasion. With that said, if you have a lot of those events in your life you might really want this. It can make you smell sophisticated and classy.

Overall it's a nice fragrance for what it is and what it does. Because it's not very versatile I can't rate it that high. And because it's a little on the synthetic and cloying side I would have to knock points off.

Scent-8/10
Versatility-3/10
Performance-4/10
Value-5/10

GreatSwiftScent

I'm a fan!!

I get a Coke-Cherry vibe
I was wearing this last night in a bar....compliments!!

good projection (gives a nice scent bubble)
silage okay-good
great longevity

if this had rum or cognac in it it would be a 10/10
but good pick up for the price 8/10

Engeno

The opening of this fragrance is a bit citrusy, after which the scent becomes a beautiful subtle leather/almond scent. In my opinion a very solid, masculine and classy fragrance.

Longevity is good, with moderate sillage.

FreddyK

This is so classy and so manly...A gentleman in a bottle.

karikalan

I feel this is too much syrupi for me. I expected something clean and more smoother, later disappointed. However if anyone like syrupi fragrance then it can be for them. For clean and fresh lovers I dont think this can fit.

Slava29

Wanted the Ideal cologne but ordered the wrong one and got this. What a pleasant error. This is a fall / winter fragrance which i generally prefer to spring / summer scents and I love this one. MUCH sweeter than I was expecting, especially in the dry down. Is there vanilla in this? I have to check, but whatever it is, it's super sweet after about 20 minutes. Great date night scent and the opening is an epic experience.

sensualbeast

Very pleasant and linear almond and tonka bean scent. On the simpler side of things but the quality is great. Could be a great signature scent for cooler weather, if you are the type of person that doesn't necessarily feel the need to stand out and make a statement with your fragrance. Not that people won't smell you though - they will, and most likely also enjoy it.

If you're looking for something more opulent, try the EDP which is more centered around cherry and incense. I think both are worth owning. The EDT actually performs better on me. The EDP becomes a skin scent much more quickly.

EDIT: After giving it a couple of wearings I’m beginning to prefer the EDP, as the EDT is too sweet and easily becomes cloying to me.

m-ourad

Once I wear this fragrance, It somehow increases masculinity and confidence in me. Pretty much mature aroma, for evening/night peeps only!

Very effective during fall and winter, nevertheless could be worn in summer as well. Lady friendly, but can be strong indoors, so better control the aroma repartition.

Bdeville

This addictive and im so glad i bought it as i dont think i have felt so fixated on a smell since YSL LHomme and YSL Y. I see is mostly reccommended for winter but i feel i can use it most of the year. My only regret is not buying it earlier and will look forward to try some of the flankers.

sciontcls_28417

Gosh, what a fragrance... I went for the edt due to the fact that heat prevails where I live and I would simply have a hard time wearing strong colder weather oriented fragrances, such is the case with my MIB from Bvlgari. So I decided to pull the trigger on a 150ml edt for about 40 USD, if I didn't like it I could just resell it to somebody, no way is that happening though.
This stuff is rich, masculine yet subtle, sweet, slightly bitter and nutty one would think this is an awkward composition and to me it is, yet the way they blended all these notes is just Magic, like a potion. The aroma is just so warm and soothing that I feel so much comfort and peace of mind when I'm wearing this. I'm kind of happy that this is actually under the radar and not hyped like the Edp which I didn't purchase because it was priced at over 90 USD and I'm not into such sweet juices so that's why I got this instead. I don't really see a woman wearing this even if she was a woman of character, but if she did, she would smell fantastic.

This is great for nights out or events in the evening, dates are definitely a go for this scent. So looking forward to the colder days, a solid staple and one of my tops in my collection.

NickZee

Personally I far prefer Guerlain’s Ideal EDP over the EDT. The EDP is phenomenal - richer and more complex with excellent performance. The EDT seems quite straightforward and incomplete in comparison and settles on a nutty almond accord sitting atop dry cedar, which gets particularly boring when the booziness exits after 15 minutes. I don’t get leather as a noticeable note, but I can see how the base could be interpreted Having a “leathery” texture.

I hadn’t realised that Paco Rabanne’s 1 Million Lucky shares the same amaretto accord as Guerlain’s Ideal EDT. Most likely because the note pyramid for Lucky lists hazelnut. If you try purchase perfume chemicals, you will see each one comes with a list of “notes” that it could be perceived as, and in this case I think the same chemical has been used by both fragrances but listed as two different notes.

Zaca

At first I was a little underwhelmed by Guerlain L’Homme Ideal. That was before I started to appreciate the clarity and prominence of the bitter almond ‘amaretto’ accord. The opening is all boozy almonds layered over a fizzy citrus and honeyed orange blossom. The bitter almond is distinct here, unlike the EDP where the bitter almond is cushioned and made luxurious through vanilla and a touch of rose.

There is a gourmand quality to L’Homme Ideal although it never strays into dessert territory. After a few hours a strong tonka bean note combines with the amaretto to give L’Homme Ideal a wonderful smoky, caramelised tobacco nuance.

L’Homme Ideal works well as a unisex scent, although women may prefer the opulence and warmth of the EDP.

Great for autumn or a cooler spring day with good longevity and modest projection, I love the interplay of bitter almond, cherry and mandarin with tonka bean: it’s like sitting in a bar with a glass of amaretto while smoking a cigar .

I find myself constantly repurchasing this fragrance, its so addictive!

This is a brilliant alluring almond scent for men (and women), though this starts slightly aromatic and bitter initially from the rosemary and bitter citrus respectively, on my skin it quickly evolves into a predominantly almond/tonka scent that is sweet but not dense and remains this way for the remainder of its life. With 4-6 sprays, this lasts moderately well on my skin for about 5-6 hours with 1 hour moderate projection. This applies to both older and newer formulations of the fragrance.

I typically wear this in the late autumn/early winter time of year though it could probably be worn in springtime too (but I usually reserve the L'homme Ideal Cologne for then). This is when it performs best for me and never fails to get me a compliment. Friends and colleagues have asked what this fragrance is and where they can get it. Not only that, I've been told that this is the best fragrance I've ever worn by one person.

For those unfamiliar with the Guerlain fragrance house, I would definitely recommend something from the L'homme Ideal line to get them started. A definite crowd pleaser for sure.

giakerr

This is LPRN, only targeted towards “L’Homme.” It is less syrupy sweet and more ‘masculine’ but can be worn by anyone... I personally don’t care for the name as this can be sexy on anyone.

It’s unmistakably Guerlain. The same quality of citrus and powdery ingredients found in the opening of L’Instant Magic and Shalimar Initial. The same tonka and almond and leather as La Petite Robe Noir Black Perfecto.

There’s a fizzy quality that tickles my nose that I just love, like an almond soda (if only there were such a thing...). Leather is prominent and keeps it from going too gourmand. I like the EDP version of this as well, but I feel that this is the better of the two.

Criglett Clussnum

The warm leather and the almond are what I notice the most and they blend together perfectly. Yes this is a fantastic colder weather fragrance. This could be an ideal cold weather frag for men. Thierry Wasser makes some real gems in my opinion and that's why he's the man for one of the best perfume labels in Guerlain. When he comes out with something new I'm always intrigued to check it out. This L'Homme Ideal line is nice work in my opinion and this original release leads the pack. This just smells so delicious and well blended. This is backup bottle worthy for me when I run out. This is a fantastic fragrance if you haven't tried it yet and you could blind buy this EASY. This is a good one! I give this a 92/100.

If you like fragrances in the ballpark of Givenchy Pi then you might like this. This reminds me of Pi but heavier and warmer I would say.

Apprentice Istanbul

Several times, I sprayed it on myself whenever I am alone in the car - to smell it again and again. This is what I call addiction and pure love! During the day, the smell pops up as I smile while enjoying the serotonin in my blood.

Scents create their own feelings for their owners. What I feel is the quality, luxury and art - listening a street concert in a Rome evening in May inside formal dress after a working day.

Almond - I have no idea why it is not as popular as Tonka/Coumarin. The price? The supply? The chemistry? Whatever the reason is - it is so obvious that Wasser & Guerlain are using it great as the the backbone of Ideal DNA. IMO, EDT is the best one among the Ideal series where Almond makes the difference with Cherry.

marcel2782

Super sweet orange, with a gallon of almonded tonka bean, aided by a light leather. Main differences for EDP: 1) where here is orange, there is cherry and rose; 2) EDT is sweeter than EDP, an authentic fruity-gourmand; 3) I feel more almond here than at EDP (there the almond makes a backdrop for the cherry). The rest is the same. Good projection of 1 arm lenght for up to 2h.

mohammad.yahia

This is underrated fragrance , it is fantastic , very manly and different. Vanilla here is Georgues, very high quality mixed with almond , leather and citruses which make it imo wearable even in summer night. I love it.

CagoDomo

It's ok, I haven't seen any comparisons to Pure Malt which is surprising. Pure Malt is a little more jammy and L'homme Ideal is a little more almond/cherry-ish but they give off a similar vibe in the air to the average nose, especially in the opening. The dry down is where the Armani code comes in for me. Not too heavy but I can definitely see what people are saying. Imagine mixing Pure Malt and Armani Code...if that sounds like something you'd like, this is for you. Not bad at all but didn't blow my mind. Also, the longevity is REALLY bad..

oken.95

Guerlain l'homme Ideal somehow reminds me of the original Armani Code🤔 maybe because of dominant Tonka bean note they share. Still, they are two different scents, just a similar vibe. Compared to Code, this performs better off my skin.

istvan.buda.779

I get the Armadi code profumo vibe but much better quality and less sweet .

strongerwithglue

man, the opening almost made me cry it was so bad. it smelled like a nail salon, like acetone and melted plastic. but it faded pretty quickly, after a couple minutes, and turned into something gorgeous. totally worth it.

amine23894

Candy/Lemonade sweet, fresh at the begining then turns out into a very sweet fragrance
good for dates or night outs in very cold weather

Dilman118745

I own L'homme Ideal EDP and Lhomme ideal cologne, and i have got to say the EDT version is MILES better than all of them. I dont know why people hype up/prefer the EDP its way too harsh and sour/sweet all at the same time. This the EDT has gotten me compliments at the same enviorment with the same people whereas the EDP has failed to do so.

libou

I had it in 2015 it was very good in term of sillage and longevity. I bought 2019 version (batch 9F01). What's happened??? I put 20 sprays and nothing!! Very very close to skin Very poor projection and longevity maybe 4 hours.
Scent: 10/10
Longevity : 3/10
Sillage : project only 2 hours after it disappear
Value : 1/10
I'm very disappointed. If it had better performances, it would be in my top 5

nicolasnmc

Smooth almond riding atop sweet tonka and silky leather create a masculine and defined fragrance. Nutty and rich yet darker than many other nutty fragrances. This isn’t too sweet. This is really lovely. I’m definitely going to need to try more from this line and other flankers but this is an excellent fragrance. Only downfalls for l’homme ideal are longevity and projection.

Saad48

My review is based off of a sample.
I already have the eau de parfum version and the cologne version and I love those fragrances especially the edp, so when I smelled this I really liked it but, I felt something was missing, I kept looking for that delicious cherry and that silky leather that are present in the edp.

So I think the eau de parfum version makes this(edt)obsolete.
Not to mention that the performance of this one is not that great.

csotranme

Update: after a few hours I must say I love it!

Sillage is worse as I expected to be.
Dried down to a skin scent after 3-4h so still pretty good.

It's still lasting so that's really good.
The scent dries down to a leather, vetiver, Tonka bean smell to me.
It lost the top notes completely but still. I can't stop smelling myself. It's just different (compared to everything I already have).

To me it still takes some guts to actually wear it because I think it can easily offend people.

Great scent for fall/winter. Definitely going to add it to my fall/winter collection next to D&G The One EdP and Azzaro Wanted By Night.

csotranme

Tried this one out just now and boy! What a projection!
Not sure yet how long it will last but so far the best projecting one I know.

I do have a hate/love relationship with this fragrance.
I do like the sweet/flower top notes but I'm not so sure about the leather from the base notes.
Interesting combination and we'll balanced for sure.

I guess I have to try it out a few more times and see if I'm going to love it or hate it.

clintjr82

My updated opinion. This version with the exact ingredients should have been the parfumed version. After a comparing both as in the eau de parfum version . This one is is just rich and stunning. This is the absolute best sweet fragrance for the young , late 20s and early 30s as of 2019
