One word..DISGUSTING!!!!!!!!!! Smells like a fish out of water trapped in a humid attic

boxim15

I started wearing this fragrance and throughly enjoy the citrus and spice but could not help but feel like there’s something familiar about it. Finally I figured it out, my nose is drawing a direct line from the original Tom Ford for him to this. The DNA is similar but Costa amps up the citrus and herbal spiciness and is modernized with a smooth vanilla

Facts only

I agree with the predominant conclusions of the other positive reviews but I wanted to add that the deep dry down has very similar vanilla note to moustache edp.

Histamine

This feels like hiking on hills somewhere around the Mediterranean on a hot day, with dry thorny plants getting stuck on your clothes and those little branches and thorns breaking as you walk. That is a nice woody herbal smell. Costa Azzurra adds some aromatics and citrus and quite a few other notes to that. this is quite complex and interesting actually. Inoffensive too.

I respect this and find this good quality, and could wear this for lunch on a warm weekend day, or in the office for one of those rare days when I am not super busy there. Alas, this does not perform on my skin and I find it overpriced for being a skin scent. So I ended up selling this after testing a few times as there are definitely better alternatives for my taste and that also work better on my skin.

Bizzy1995

For all the ingredients listed, this is very well blended. It’s marine, woody, citrusy, resinous, even a bit warm spicy. It’s not typical bright sunny beach fragrance, to me this is cloudy skies before a storm on a beach, in the Mediterranean,if that makes sense. This is a high quality fragrance that truly paints a beautiful image in my mind as I close my eyes and smell it.

aakaashrio15

this is nice. its mass appealing and is amazing for summers. unfortunately for the poor longevity it sways me away but other than that it has a nice clean and masculine scent profile

fj46

While the Parfum has a better performance/sillage, I enjoy the smell of this more. Not a must have, but a very pleasant summer scent.

MuzzyMustang

Tried this one about a year ago, did not like it that much at that time. I chose Beau de Jour over this one. However, I was killing some time in a shopping mall and decided to give it another try. Felt better than the first time. There was a nice offer and bought a 100+10ml set for around 90€. Can’t complain. Definitely a classy summer daytime scent. Imagine yourself enjoying the sunset on the French Italian riviera in a small town, sitting on the balcony wearing a linen shirt, together with your partner and drinking some Negroni, This is the ideal scent for that.

clintjr82

As about as masculine as it gets for a marine scent . I would not like this on a woman. This and Bvlgari Aqva are the most masculine of them all, your best bets if you want to smell like a man at sea or the beach . This is more of the scent that represent the ocean rocks, dirt, algae with a breeze. The scent is powerful. Can’t spray too much. Overall this is a nice marine for a mature man. 29 year olds and under stick with Acqua di go.

victorb2000

this is what Dickie Greenleaf would wear

MooseWala

Its just a beautiful fragrance and smells so good, i think it more masculine but could work on women as well.
Bought the gift set for 80£ 100ml so it was quite cheap.

Nova789K!

Extremely good. Heavenly and takes you there. Wow! Great art!

hrhalexandru6

The loveliest fragrance from TF that I have ever owned and worn. Summer of 2021 was all about Costa Azzurra - a holiday to Nice couldn't be a true experience without wearing this every day. Wearing Costa Azzurra on the Cote d'Azur made it so much more special. Summer in a bottle, citrusy, fresh, powerful, well-performing, but not at all intoxicating. Aquatic, non-mineral, very well-done blending of those 18 notes listed above... going to get a second bottle very soon. I hope I'm going to be still as in love as when I got it almost 3 years ago.

GIT

I really like this one, specially the dry down. It has a soft floral background that works very well with the lemon and cardamom notes. It is very well rounded, and warm without being sweet. The cypress and oak notes are quite a beautiful addition, as it elevates the overall experience and makes it more masculine. The longevity is quite good, and it projects well. Some people might think the smell is a little "common", and although i might agree, i think this is a way more sophisticated version of what you might have smelled in the past.

siverthov

This one has really grown on me. A couple of months ago it felt medicinal and off-putting, but now the lemon and orange together with the cypress and incense really shines through. And the subtle hint of oud; perfection.

Chose this over the Parfum due to it being more fresh and citrusy, and still having the same performance. More suitable in hot weather.

Can't wait to embrace this in the high heats of Spain this summer. I'm from Norway, so anything above 15°C is a win.

VickeyVic

This stuff is the best. It's like summer in a bottle, with how all the citrus and woody notes blend together perfectly. Also, it lasts quite a while compared to other Tom Ford fragrances.

junkioberyoloman

Citrus and a bit of lavender on a base of salty, unique driftwood and green cypress.
Overall a oceanic and clean woody fragrance with a mediterranean feel, that almost reminds me of more classic barbershop scents.
Though unique it will most likely liked by many.
I honestly feel like this is underrated, it definitely deserves to be above an average of 4/5 on fragrantica.
It will work it’s best in spring, summer and early fall, but it will probably work anytime and anywhere if you need it to. The only limiting factor is it’s projection in colder weather.
Atomizer is good.

I think this smell is just exactly what you think it gone be when you read the notes and it’s fantastic I really like it it’s perfect for summer and it’s quite unique but it doesn’t last more than 3-4 hours projecting then after those hours it remains closely on the skin but it’s really good I do recommend it if you want a serious gentlemen vide perfume that suits summer and you don’t mind the price

Arber Cami

Instant dislike for me unfortunately. I like aquatic fragrances but there is something absolutely strange here.
I get a weird carrot, salty mix with oud in the beginning and it overpowers the fragrance.
Sample before buying

1uckynumb3r

Overpriced!
The smell is fine but only if you don't have Issey Miyake l'eau bleue d'issey or if you have just a few fragrances or have plenty of money to spent.
I'm shocked what amount o money between Issey and this one.
I only bought an official 10 ml sample otherwise I would not have paid the price asked for it.
Also, the performances are weaker than in the case of Miyake..
Another reason to appreciate even more my bottle of L'eau bleue d'issey.
On a scale from 1 to 10 i'll give a 7.
Later edit: in the opening has a strog cheap deodorant vibe, is like a ck fragrance(maybe something from.eternity line) for warm wether...After a few minute begin to share some similarities with l eau bleu d issey mixed with something from calvin klein fragrance. In the drydown it begin to smell better, to show some quality, but it' s not enough for this price tag. Again, a dissapointent for a tom ford fragrance...

TheFragrantGentleman

Costa Azzura is the Summer vacation scent for the modern gentleman. Great for lunch or dinner dates, while the sun is still up.

pusha65

10/10, my favourite warm weather fragrance
aquatic and woody, smells like the beach. Very high quality
Price is disappointing though

drewsneak

I discovered this before the Parfum was released. Parfum def has more longevity and potency. With that being said..

I love this scent. It just reminds me of a good a$$ time!

Piney and citrusy makes it smell nice and fresh, like a million bucks. Transitions to a clean, soapy smell 🧼 then goes into skin dormancy so I always have to reapply due to poor performance but a joy nonetheless!

Well…. Mr. Ford found a bottle of Guy Laroche Horizon in his closet.. he pull it out and was well decide to do a Dupe.. and yes!, he did it…. (I got it here side by side) It is exactly same perfume maybe just a biiit almost imperceptible slightly difference in the dry down (being CA a very little more spicy)… But it is no worth it to buy CA while Horizon still can be found on the market… don’t allow the youtubers giving fake hype waste money like that.

XOXO_marcel

This is soooo good. It has that rich "papery" quality found in so many Tom Ford fragrances, almost like a thick sheet of parchment. The incense and cypress combine to make me think of a chapel in the woods. I love this one.

Cavalier1861

Its a wonderful scent for summer or all year if living in tropical climate.. For some reason Tom Ford changed the bottle from a cool carribean blue to what just looks more like a standard glass bottle but the contents are the same. It does not last very long even in a parfum but it smells so good, its not a bother to spray more as needed

NickZee

This to me comes across as an updated early 1990s powerhouse in a similar vein as Ralph Lauren Safari for Men and Cartier’s Pasha, and that becomes more obvious as it dries down. Here we have a more robust citrus opening and then the cypress floats above that Safari DNA. Myrtle adds the seaside touch but this is no aquatic, at least not as we know aquatics to be now. Smells fantastic, one of my favorite discoveries this year.

varun07

I do not know if I have a fake. On me it smells just like a moisturizer or a body lotion. Imagine a slim girl on a beach dipping herself in sunscreen from head to toe. That's the vibe I get out of it.
Oh my God! Jacob did you fall inside a tub of body lotion. Because you smell just like that.

idshagstries

I think this has been mischaracterised as a summer scent, i bought it in march after a few test runs where i loved it but to my surprise i disliked wearing it during the summer, there was an obnoxious aspect to it. Recently its been getting colder here (high 10s to low 20s celsius) and ive been trying a few cypress scents, notably gucci by gucci pour homme which i really like but doesnt last long enough, when i got home and remembered this has a prominent cypress note and i realised this perfume absolutely shines in these types of weather conditions. Its definitely made for autumn and or spring, i love it in this weather. Havent yet tried it in winter

bil00l

Great perfume for hot weather. Lasts a long time but not as much as the parfum lasts, about 9 hours or so. Smells similar to noir. Has a really nice opening, with a subtle sweetness and woody and mild citrusy notes. Great dry down as well, I just want to keep smelling it. Top 3 of the perfumes that I own.

HunterB10X

It’s not bad, and definitely is a cool looking bottle. I picked it up online in the Spring/Summer of 2022. It definitely does have a Mediterranean Citrus Woody vibe. About 6-7 hours of longevity w decent silage. I think the Parfum is probably better? But not a lot separates the 2. So if you own one? Then owning both would be redundant imo. If you’re gonna wear this? Summer would definitely be the best time. It reminds me of Florida. A solid 7.5/10.

Samanthaheer

This beautiful aquatic, spicy fragrance leans too masculine for me. The sillage was good for the one hour of longevity I got from it. Then it faded into a fresh skin scent.

joolya

smells like this tangerine kefir water i love, with strong underlying notes of ginger and hearty woodsy notes. very fresh and citrusy zingy opening, and more woodsy and spicy on the dry down. beautiful unisex fragrance, just a little too pricey though.

rlgon

Although I didn’t like the opening, it’s interesting (different); It gets better after an hour or so, but kinda generic. Not worth the price.

GrV

Not a value for money…Buy Hugo by Hugo boss instead…Feels like generic aromatic Perfume but its good for daily use office wear.

Tony Shades

This fragrance is anything but azzura and aquatic. It's a fresh boozy spicy fragrance, like some sort of spiced cognac or something. The new ambery bottle color fits better than the old turquoise one, if I may say so. People who are looking for an aquatic will have a shock.

evertonnick3

It’s good. Not great. I’m glad I didn’t blind but this and just got the decant. It’s nice to wear in warm weather but there are so many other things I would rather wear.

camphor_lover

Acqua di Gio with some warmth to it. Whatever!

frag_slacker

There seems to be a lot bloviating nonsense on this site sometimes, because this wears and smells like your average Italian drug store cologne from the 80s and 90s. Yes, it performs better than what Armani has done to Eau Pour Homme or D&G Pour Homme, but it is not even as good as those were originally.

Personally, I can’t imagine ever choosing this over Eau Sauvage and I wouldn’t even buy it if it was on the discount rack for $30. It’s not bad, but give me a break with charging that kind of money for this.

Frabra88

Hard and pure, as we say in Italy!!
I can see this being worn by an ultra virile man, but still well groomed and maybe dressed all in white. I kinda picture him resembling the male models of Dolce&Gabbana perfumes ads....I know, I know...it is quite the fantasy, but that is the beauty of scents!

I would say this is a classic fougere, I don't find it particularly modern apart from the incense and olibanum notes, the opening is a bit harsh and synthetic but dry down is good, even sexy!
This is male essence in a bottle! From my pont of view fougeres are the epitome of masculinity, more so then leathery or smoked compositions.
On my mens I prefer to smell much more unisex fragrances, more transperent perfumes, powdery, flowery ones or even something sweet if it is well done and has enough contrast, but I can see why this is so loved. After all, it smells expensive, and it is a summery take on a "mediterranean" masculine scent.
It has a well balanced equilibrium of both woody, herbaceous, aromatics and citrus accords, and comes forth as generally clean and enigmatic in the dry down.
If that is what you are looking for but in a truly unisex version, I can suggest Corallium by Carthusia, it has the same accords and the quality of the herbs is magnificent, but it has no incense (only myrrh in the middle).

To pick it apart a little I would say that the opening is all lemon, citrus and cardamom on my skin; I don't pick up ambrette at all in the perfume, nor the woods or the seaweed just at this stage. This opening is tenacious, it lasts more then 30 minutes, then the lavender and the herbs take central stage; I can't distinguish between the various aromatics and herbs, they all blend togheter, which has its pros and its cons, and many declared notes seem to be missing completely.
In the middle I can clearly smell the driftwood and the seaweed, they bring a salty summery dimension to the fragrance but nothing seriously marine or heavy calone, more like a costal breeze; the cypress fits very well here and mixed with the orange it smells just like the typical flora of some mediterranean seafront.
As a whole the perfume is strongly woody but I don't smell agarwood at all.
Dry down is where this shines, and luckly it is the stage that endures the most on my skin, still projecting strongly; it smells ambery, a little earthy, and has a sort of marine breeze quality about it. The oak wood is dry and the incense softens everything beautifully. Incense is always a godsent, it ever elevates the other notes. Olibanum too, it is infact one of my favorites notes and here it lends a bit medicinal and fresh which makes me like the dry down even more! If you smell it from very close it has that aftershave quality about it, but the trail it leaves behind (and the whiff you catch while wearing it) smells more elegant then that, refined and gentleman like.

I tried this a couple of times, just for the sake of olfactive culture since I had two samples of 3ml each, and I can say that it behaved like a luxury product should.
Lasting power was near the six to seven hours mark, and projected like crazy! It is strong despite being citrusy and herbaceous, perhaps even too strong considering that I would deem this as late spring appropriate. I would not wear this in summer, the style is right but it is too potent for that, then again, as a female, I would not wear this at all...I like unisex and I enjoy perfumes that whispers "my boyfriend left his colone at my place" but this one screams it...it is seriously male only.

Since the best part for me was the dry down, at this point and at this price, I would prefer to spend a little bit more and buy a classic barbershop fragrance like maybe Sartorial by Phenhaligon's, one of Floris London like Elite, or one of the many Creed altogether. But this are just the preferences of a random female, men just as women don't usually wear perfume just to please the opposite sex.

LanaDelSlay

it's like a fizzy lemon drink. cant explain it but to me it's "fizzy", a soda but not sweet, like a ginger beer but instead of ginger it's fresh lemons.

JusttheFactsMan

#94 in my "Tour de Fragrance" of 250 scents in 250 days. "It's okay" was the verdict of the screaming hot woman I was with at lunch. I know her taste runs to vanilla scents like Layton and Grand Soir, but still, I am not going for "It's okay." I got this as a sample from Microperfumes, as I've learned not to buy Tom Ford scents blind. I've several more to try, but so far, I've yet to encounter any Tom Ford scent I just have to have, and a couple that I loathe.

This isn't a cold weather fragrance. Seems like the aim was a daytime scent for men for the Summer, but if that was the goal, they could have skipped the wood notes which add nothing but annoyance. After a while, several hours in fact, the woodiness drops out completely and I like it much, much better.

I think there are better Summer scent options out there at this price point and even lower (Acqua di Parma Colonia Essenza, Hermes Concentre D’Orange Verte, etc), and while this is not bad, it's not really a head-turner either, and none of us are just going for, "It's okay.".

Kingpr0

Tom Ford Costa Azzura I can pick up a tone down Citrus follow by the clean lavender, I can smell the seaweed and driftwood right after and the vanilla and incense blends everything very beautiful. The dry down on the skin you can smell more of the seaweed and driftwood and citrus smell goes to the background. I get beach vibes, fancy beach party, cruise ship, vacations. One of my favorites from Tom ford. Highly Recommend for Summer

Mjchaelj

I have both this one and the parfum version, this one seems like a more aquatic/less woody version of that. This would be nice for the daytime and the parfum for the nighttime. This line is fantastic, they’re like more elegant versions of Acqua di gio. Perfect for the hot weather, very nice.

8.5/10

senad05

This is a nice fragrance.
It's not too strong, but not really weak either. Imagine you're walking in the afternoon on a sunny beach, that's what it smells like!
I would say it smells like sweet oranges. Nothing else

Highly recommended as a summer perfume. No-go for winter

Peegore

A linear citrus/cypress/musk with a subtle oceanic vibe.

Does evoke images of Mediterranean coastlines and is very pleasant, but the perfomance is just not on par with the price.

There is a particular note in here, guessing it's Cypress, that is massively shared with L'Eau Bleue D'Issey and I would suggest saving quite a few quid and giving that a go instead. Better longevity too.

electricdoe

I bought this for my fiancé and it is such a nice, masculine scent—not yucky like some tend to be. I know it is supposed to be unisex but imho it is more masculine if not completely.

Goso2160

Just got this today and I am loving it. Steven over at redolessence said it perfect and now I can’t shake it. This is a niche version of the discontinued Calvin Klein crave!! I used to love that when I was in high school and this brings me such nostalgia I may get a back up bottle.

grak

It's nice.. would not say it is overly unique, and it is potent, but I like it. Masculine.. could work for me for hot summertime

sbmmbs21

A fresh, aromatic, aquatic scent that’s lovely, but not unisex in my eyes.

As a woman who loves unisex scents & all of the main accords of this fragrance, I was excited to try this (as I’ve been on the hunt for a herbal/citrus/aquatic scent to remind me of the amalfi coast).

However, if you’re expecting this to be unisex in the way that TFs other unisex scents are, you’ll be disappointed, as this is very aftershave smelling to me. Should have realised the notes were more woody than anything else. Glad I got a sample, this is not a safe blind buy for a woman!

Unmodernize

I usually don’t like TF but this is lovely.

SpectralScents

Love this more and more now that this scent profile has become less and less common to see. It gets compliments like NOTHING ELSE I own!!

GreatGreyOwl

This smells nice, but there is a kind of wateriness that I don't love. Maybe if the herbs were more poronounced and aromatic, this would be on another level. Definitely very classic masculine vibe.

eholley485

This is a top notch scent. I love the way it transitions. Starts off citrusy then the incense starts to pop out. Then you start the best part the dry down of this fragrance. Beautiful scent

catriiona

This is gorgeous and transports me right back to a trip I took around the Amalfi coast... It evokes walking into a deserted, musty old church in the hills above the coast, surrounded by cypress trees and citrus groves. On opening, it's lemony, musky and resinous, reminiscent of church incense. As it dries down, the brightness of the lemon fades to leave a mellow, woody and herbaceous base which lies close to the skin. It's beautiful but not very powerful. An inoffensive, expensive-smelling daytime scent that would be perfect for a work day in spring.

Laurus

This does not suit me. It just smells like any other mens aquatic fragrance. I would not even guess it is Tom Ford. Kind of boring. I can really smell the seaweed in the beginning. But then it just smell like typical mens aquatic aromatic parfum.

Coriemulvey

This is so nostalgic for me because it smells like Christmas when I was a child. The scent reminds me of those specific vintage Christmas incense (Yule logs) that smelled of pine that no one uses anymore. Once is dries down, it smells similar to Kenzo World Power. It makes for an adequate inexpensive dupe. KWP is a salty cypress that’s not as rich (less pine/balsamic) but it is still a very strong fragrance

LaContessina

Your average fougère. I was expecting a lot, but feel like let down.
It's fresh, a blast of citrus at first spray and then you get woods, dry and salty, yes seaweed and driftwood. Balsamic.
Not much more than this: very linear, very average aftershave feeling. Masculine.
Not a bad fragrance at all, very wearable just very common.
But at that price point, you should get much more (this has average sillage, and low, very low longevity).
A huge pass.

mse-21

Costa Azzurra develops to a fresh scent on my skin that is very familiar. It's sparkling smell has aquatic and green aspects to it. It is very pleasant and I quite enjoy it while it does last. Also I get the impression of high quality ingredients being used.

The designer website says this scent intended to "evoke the uninhibited sensuality of a Mediterranean escape". Well, I can see the aquatic notes in it resembling a nice coast. But as I said it is very familiar and honestly I don't consider it an original scent.

sniffer 65

A bit of administrativa first. Does everyone check the little "love, like, ok, dislike and hate" icons above the written reviews? This one has full bars for love and like, but less than 1/3 bars for the others. Yet reading the written reviews, there are more negatives than positives. Make sure you click the icons!

To start with, this is not aquatic in any way. The reviews that say that it IS aquatic are either talking about the pre-2022 formulation or they have had that scent put into their minds by the notes listing.

This is a confusing one. Half of the people (including me) note that this fragrance starts out as a skin scent and is completely gone within two hours. The other half say that it lasts all day.

So what does it have? Well, it is different and therefore interesting. It started out with a somewhat-standard lemon with some cypress and artemisia for some bite, which I like. Within a half hour, the citrus is pretty much gone, replaced by what I can best describe as a significant oregano note (not listed, but it is there. Maybe that's the myrtle?) A bit further along, the smell of driftwood comes in, but it is a dry smell, not at all resinous. From there, it fades away.

I know that you are saying "hey, there is a lot going on. Why no love?" Well first, the only way I could smell these changes was to put my nose down my shirt to smell the 5 sprays that i put on my chest 30 minutes earlier. Zero projection, terrible duration. Second, while the notes are evocative of the scene they have put in our heads, and are done in an interesting way, the scent itself isn't compelling. This would make a good scented candle at a fancy beach house, but it isn't something that I would ever wear. This is the type of scent that Tom Ford fans will buy, rave about, then leave on the back of the shelf. It just doesn't serve any purpose. It is far from a compliment getter, lacking freshness (past the first 30 minutes), it isn't boozy, or warm, or sweet, or pungent. And it is weak. If it projected and endured, I would have given this a neutral rating for the creativity if not wearability, but since it isn't, gotta go thumbs down.

On the off-chance that the duration/projection issues are due to skin chemistry (not something I experience often, but ...), and you are fascinated by imagined landscapes, grab yourself a decant and decide for yourself, but this is definitely not a blind buy unless you are a true TF fanboy.

Vicky456

Smelled a lot like Axe body spray but with more citrus and the notes were combined a lot better

TjSmellsGood

Got this as a sample. First, the other reviews are fairly accurate, it doesn't last a super longtime. It's a bit of a skin scent, which I think is fine. It reminds me a lot of cheaper colognes that your dad might wear (old spice, english leather, etc.) that are very musky and smokey and spicy. That bold manly scent, but fancied up a little. I don't really get the marine notes, but I definitely get the lemon and spices, along with some smoke. It's OK, it's not anything fantastic and I don't think I would pay TF prices for a full bottle. But it does smell nice. A lot of people are marking to as a summer scent, but I think summer might be a little hot for it. It's pretty bold. I would say a cool spring or fall day is the perfect weather.

Rajahuss

Purchased this and not really happy with it. Sucks because usually Tom ford perfumes are amazing but this one doesn’t last long at all and is basically a skin scent within 30 min after over spraying. For the price this is unacceptable. I don’t know why this is getting high reviews. To me this smells smelly like urine and I don’t pick up any of those complex notes.

I really don’t see this as unisex. Way too masculine. Smells like a very typical male perfume on me.

With that being said: It smells good – on men.

awildmoose

Spend over half my years on a warm island - this is my night time and special occasion scent when women are involved. Clean, refreshing with more than a hint of musk that made one girl's eyes roll back when she smelled it for the first time.

I'm a bit different in recommendations - I would recommend this for (comfortably) warm summer date nights or small, mixed-party outings, but something else a bit less musky for the warm summer days where you would want to be a bit more fresh but without the sexiness and something that lasts a bit better, as either I'm nose blind or it really doesn't last long (like a lot of TF, I'm finding). Probably the sport or blue lines for the hot weather daytime. For a club or casual bar outing in the summer probably something more immediately attracting will do, like sauvage or invictus, as this one doesn't have the same reach and is a skin scent for your date to enjoy.

Invasionbg

Nice and complex scent. Unfortunately I don’t like oak as a fragrance note and that spoiled everything for me.

However, a decent scent with a creative touch.

Tam

This was a blind buy I picked up on discount at TK Maxx here in London. I looked up the notes before purchasing and was intrigued by seaweed. I sprayed it to wear throughout my ballet lesson and it didn't disappoint. This literally smells of the sea (or as the sea used to smell before they recently started dumping sewage in it here in UK). The wood gives it some grounding and I get a hint of the spice. I have just come back from a few days summer break by the ocean in Cornwall and it makes me nostalgic for that break. Aquatics are tricky to do well but this one works for me. If you like Penhaligon's Blasted Bloom you may like this (though it is less in yer face). Even though I blind bought it I would recommend a test though - it was a gamble that paid off for me as I like the notes.

grhicks

There are two types of mainstream aquatic fragrances: those that evoke the character of the ocean and those that smell like the ocean itself. Costa Azzurra plants itself squarely in the latter category while remaining wearable and fresh. This fragrance is meant to be transportive. It takes you on a walk beginning in a coastal grove of lemons and oranges. As the hot wind blows through the trees, your face is hit with the warm refreshment of natural citrus. When you emerge on the other side of the grove you come upon a path in the hill leading down to the ocean. With the breeze at your back and the smell of lemons still lingering behind you, you pass through white sand and salty driftwood. The beach before you is quiet, and the blaring afternoon sun has waned into the beginning of dusk.

Costa Azzurra is not terribly complex. Many here have noted this, either for better or for worse. Its strength lies not in the number of its notes but in the quality of each: you will find nothing here that smells unnatural. Nothing soapy. Nothing that will have it throwing punches with sexy designer blue bottles. But that's not the point here. This is not a beach night full of young spring-breakers out to get lucky one last time before they have to inevitably board their return flight home. This is a quiet moment spent taking in the beauty of one's surroundings. Perhaps alone. Perhaps with someone special. Whiffs of Costa Azzurra will bring you back to those moments which can now only be visited through forlorn nostalgia. A summertime Frank Ocean CD in a bottle.

I was going to write a long review of why I really like this; instead I'll say I like this, no, LOVE this for every single reason the people below hated or disliked it.

betsyglez8

Woody lavender ?
I like this one very unisex ,

M-as-Marin

I was super excited to get Costa Azzurra as soon as possible when it was launched and finally got my bottle in early September 2021.

After looking at so many included notes, and imagining what it would smell like, I have to say that this one is one of those familiar yet supremely done aromatic woody fragrances with touches of sea smell.

One thing that kept my excitement at the normal level was Costa Azzurra Acqua which I sampled one year before and was not overly impressed by the composition.

TOP NOTES
Upon the first spray, the fragrance opens up with a burst of juicy citruses, smelling natural and well refined. Looking at the listed top notes, this may come strange due to the whole different note listing.

Anyone worried about the infamous oud note shouldn’t be worried since that note is non-existent in this fragrance. The citrus, of which I mainly get mandarin orange, and lemon are intertwined with aromatic herbs that transport you to the Adriatic coast.

HEART NOTES
The heart notes keep on the pleasant and sunny vibes while the notes step into an aromatic and woody territory.

Cypress takes the main role, and if I had to imagine a picture of what it reminds me of, it would be a stroll through the Dalmatian villages, near the sea, where cypress and orange trees grow.

The citrus notes never really back down, and the gentle whiffs I get wouldn’t bother anyone. The issue I have with all of this is the missing notes that are either non-existent or mixed in the minimal amount of concentration.

BASE NOTES
The base notes mostly consist of citrus, and aromatic notes present from the beginning with additional resinous woodiness from the generic woody accord, and incense that is mostly present in the higher outside temperatures.

As someone who knows what the actual driftwood smells like, I’m sad to report that the driftwood present here is just a combination of vetiver, oak, and seaweed.

If you aren’t 45 or older. Don’t buy this one or Beau De Jour Edp. They aren’t unique and just smell boring.

BattleOfActium

Smells like the carpet beneath the aisle seat on domestic airline flight

jgouvea

I really like this fragrance, although I don’t find it unique. The problem is that it smells “too mature” to some people. I got the comment “you smell like an old man” twice today.

London Lady

I have been testing this perfume over the past couple of (hot) days in the UK and its a likeable, fresh almost sparkly scent, ideal for summer. You can really smell the lemon, it smells like a very posh lemonade! It doesn't last long, doesn't have much silage either, but for the price I find it quite disappointing. If I was gifted a bottle of this I would be delighted as its an OK scent for sunny days, fairly generic and definitely a safe buy - there's nothing particularly offensive about this perfume. I wouldn't buy it for the price that it is though. I think I'd like it more on my husband than on myself...

Meris

Reminds me of my childhood. Grew up in Mt. Kilimanjaro area. Takes me back to late mornings, laying on my grandma's lawn the sun heated scent of crushed weeds and grass, wood sap.

Gumbinator

Just received a sample of this today. Smells quite identical to Tom Ford For Men. But with way better performance. Wow!

aczwy

aquatic freshie runner where the citrus notes really shine. this has a classic "masculine" scent that's not offensive, but not particularly interesting

OHLAWDTOMFAWD

I could see die hard Tom Ford folks hating on it because it isnt as traditionally bold as many have become accustomed to with TF scents over the past years and this is more a 'safe', more mass appeal attempt.

Nonetheless, I do like it quite a bit. As far as your standard spring/summer, aquatic/citrus type scents, I feel that in that category, Costa Azzura finds a way to stand apart from your traditional 'Blue' or aquatic fresh scents. The lemon has a rindy type of note that isnt abrasivly sweet and the cypress comes through to give it a subtly sweet yet green vibe. Marine notes are present throughout. As far as summer fresh scents go, I quite enjoy. 7.5/10 for what it is.

kobylnice

Fresh citrusy, herbal and woody scent, really lovely blend! There's a touch of ocean breeze too. Perfect summer fragrance but I find it rather masculine than unisex. I've got a sample so I think I will pass on the rest of it to my husband. Sillage is fabulous but longevity very poor, 3 hours max. Reminds me of Bvlgari Aqua.

Glyph

Very light and pleasant, and great for the hot summer weather, Costa Azzura basically represents a classic citrus aromatic with marine notes layered over it. The note pyramid is fairly complex, but the accord itself is not, and is very wearer-friendly and seems both classic at its base and very up-to-date in its topnotes. A nice summer fragrance for wealthy men.

MrBYM

For me the opening is effervescent, kind of a bubbly citrus ocean breeze with trees behind it. Through the life of the application it alternates between feeling like I'm on a boat with a drink and cigar and expensive watch, my tanned gut sticking out relaxing enjoying the breeze cruising next to a forest and other times it feels like I'm walking through the forest itself.

Mina Abdo

Summer's pure elegance bottled.

cluelessguy77

delightful and elegant fragrance let down by its performance. I hope the "deeper" parfum version builds on this, can't wait to try it.

YjiX3MR

The coast mentioned in the name has trees growing on it. Their wood is dry because of scorching sun. There's only a small breeze from the water that lets them live there. I love this fragrance.

Bianchi41

Pretty sure some are getting this mixed up with the blue azzurra, this is pretty strong on me, lasts easy 8 hrs+. Very oceanic, bright lemon and orange with woods and ambery incense. Major go from me, perfect for warm weather, potentially a signature scent as quite versatile.

twoski

Honestly i don't get any of the potentially intimidating topnotes from this. I get a strong lemon with a bit of sweet orange. I get a slight green-ness. A bit of a sweet conifer aspect from the cypress. There's a mild spiciness from the cardamom and frankincense. A smidge of bitter herbs. A bit of wood in the back supporting it all.

A complex but pleasing aromatic summer scent that would smell great on a woman or man. Leans maybe 55% masculine to my nose. Loses most sweetness and becomes more of an aromatic fragrance once the mandarin orange fades, so be warned.

JackVermeer

If you like this fragrance I'd try out Gucci Guilty Cologne first. It's 95% the same scent but stronger.

obsidianknighthawk

Excellent scent strong

jadesfragrances

fresh, bright and citrusy - perfect for warm, summer weather. leans masculine in the opening where it’s quite spicy/woody but once it settles it becomes more unisex. i get a lot of the lavender (in a nice fresh way, not a mature/sickly way) coming through which softens it a little.

Ksj_

Really? No one thinks that this smells like some type of AXE product?

This is hyper generic.

Jbicanic89

My favourite summer fragrance! The notes just perfectly blend together. In the high heat, as this cooks on your skin, this fragrance blossoms!

Gorilla

I LOVE THIS! My current most favorite scent! Can't get enough, overspray so its on me all day! I ordereed the perfume version! Just simply love it!

Liamddf

Love this stuff. Def in my top 5, pure summer day wear to smell amazing.

mateuszolech072

I always loved the smell, but now I love it even more, because it reminds me about Rome! Pine trees are growing all around the city and the smell is devine! Costa Azzurra is indeed very Mediterranean kind of perfume. Imagine walking by Colosseum and Forum Romanum in the morning, the sun is coming through trees and ancient buildings with its golden color light.

chrisk252

Aromatic, herbal, citrus. Thought it would be citrusy and bright, but much more of a warmer spring fragrance than a summer beach scent. It's just ok, nothing I pine for.

Scent: 6.5 / Sillage: 7 / Longevity: 7

UPDATE: 4/18/2022 Tried it again and defiinitely a pass for me. There's something herbal in a mediciney way that turns me off. Not refreshing or inspiring, just kind of odd. Can't win 'em all I guess. Scent might downgrade to a 6 even.

MichelleAntonia

This is the closest thing I've found to my beloved (discontinued) Italian Cypress. Not a deadringer, but a relative. I'm shocked no has voted it as similar.

Bfreepro417

There is something about this one that I don’t like. It’s definitely high quality, but to me it does not smell aquatic. It reminds me of a seaside, but it doesn’t actually feel like an aquatic fragrance to me. I get a ton of the salty, dry driftwood, some nice green herbs, and I absolutely detect cardamom here. Something in it also reminds me of… tobacco. Upon first trying it, it actually reminded me more of YSL La Nuit than any other aquatic fragrance. It’s got a ton of spice in it, and it’s warmer and less fresh than I had anticipated. This is definitely not a light, airy, blue ocean type fragrance. Some reviews below have said it reminds them of a blue fragrance, but I do not get this whatsoever.

Now, it’s not bad at all, but there is something off putting about it. It really does smell like standing on the beach… driftwood, seaweed, salt. Now, to me this honestly is not that pleasant of a smell. It’s evocative and transportive, but… I do not like wearing it. It doesn’t smell clean to me. It smells quite dirty actually.

It’s like the Seinfeld episode where Kramer comes up with his idea for a cologne called “The Beach” and pitches it to Calvin Klein. The man working for (the fictional) CK simply said “you think people are gonna pay $80 a bottle to smell like dead fish and seaweed? It’s why people take showers when they get home from the beach. It’s an objectionable, offensive odor!!”
That’s how I feel about this one. *shrugs*

NordicScent992

@Flippi1
Its more denser version of the edp with focus on cypress. I liked it but you dont need both.

Stwmylos

Costa Azzura conjures up the scenery of the ocean very well. However, it is too much for me. It reminds me of algae and seawead being beached off the coast on a moody cloudy day. Evocative? Sure. But, sadly, it makes me nauseous.

spiceysauce5

After sampling and then purchasing a full bottle, i must say that i find some differences in the PB vs Signature line versions.

I'd say it's the same scent but a bit less smooth, a touch less refined and gritty. It's still high quality and enjoyable but i think I prefer the PB. I might be crazy and maybe it's the same, but it definitely seems different to my nose. Will need to buy some of the PB version again to compare.

Flippi1

Anyone smelt the new parfum version yet ?

ckorp8

Already got the blue private blend version which everyone seems to think is not different from this so I will wait for the parfum version and hope it will perform better. Love the bottle, btw.

Jsmoltz29

This is one of my late spring early summer go to's. Starts bright and citrusy and dries down to aquatic, mineral, driftwood and will never not remind me of the beach

Brdnz

Opens with a very nice bright citrus that i wish lasted longer, dries to become a more cool woods with some interesting notes. very good for any occasion
Relativley different from other fragrances in it's category but if you already have a ton of fragrances wouldn't reccomend you blind buy as you likley wouldn't wear it much especially for the price
Overall fantastic scent that's a little different but has poor performance

dogmeat

I love the opening of Costa Azzurra...I wish that bright citrus lasted longer than it does. After it fades, this is fresh, woodsy, and vaguely aquatic to me. It makes me think of fresh-scrubbed skin. This has a salty/musky vibe, which I find appealing. I think this is suitable for day and night...very smooth and easy to wear, but upscale. There is something gentlemanly about this scent, but with just enough 'cad' underneath the surface to make it intriguing. I feel like an Italian playboy on his yacht when I wear this...Nice.

Wwoman

This gives me a blast of lemon at first, then it becomes complex with fresh spicy, aromatic/herbal notes. After it dries down, I get the woods and a tiny bit of warmth from vanilla and the other resinous notes. Vetiver is fairly prominent then as well. Compared to Costa Azzurra Acqua, it's definitely warmer and woodier. The Acqua is cooler, fresher, with more citrus, whereas the regular Costa Azzurra is more of a primarily fresh spicy experience. Also, on me the Acqua lasts longer and projects better, which is not what I'd expected. In my collection, the Acqua is more unique and up my alley, frankly.

spiceysauce5

Had the acqua version, really liked it as i enjoy easy to wear frags, so i didnt mind that people claimed its watered down. After a while i noticed the saltiness made it harder to wear casually, despite it being more watery.

Then i decided to sample this big guy. WOW. So much better, so much more nuanced and just balanced, while still being fresh enough to wear in high heat. I definitely think this one is the one to get, even for a casual fragrance.

I will say that as it dries down it gets progressively saltier, which gets it a little more "serious," but its still good stuff.

mutatismutandis

Costa Azzurra opens with a whoosh of lemon and cypress and it gradually opens up over the first hour. By that stage there are a broad range of notes to be heard: cardamom; lemon; cypress; lavender; woods; celery; olibanum/incense; a hint of mandarin; a hint of myrtle and artemisia; a touch of mastic; and some muskiness from the ambrette. The sillage is moderate and stays that way for four, four and a half hours. I don't get any oud, seaweed or vanilla. The scent is fairly linear after its opening is complete and it lasts a good ten hours. It's suitable for every season and works day and night. I like it.

At £89 for 50ml or £123 for 100ml it's still pricey but not as bad as the private line.

erbn

Not a review, but I need a dupe for this and can’t find anything. Also shows you that it’s a very unique lovely scent, opening with gorgeous lemons and a lasting incense scent through out the day. Beautifully Mediterranean beach scent. Wish it was cheaper, that’s why I want a dupe lol.

laundrybasinmustard

This is one of the few colognes I've worn that smells like a place or an experience, rather than a combination or series of identifiable scents. I'm not sure why that is, but it's just excellent. For me, it evokes the sea breezes of the mid-Atlantic coast.

However, I can't smell it at all after ten minutes. Per SO's experience, it's a skin scent after an hour on me.

westham1969

I wear this to work, and it’s great scent. Not too strong, and smells classy.

Corspin

This one smells like lemon pie / lemon curd and it's quite nice. I wouldn't really recommend in general however because it's a very strong smell. It does still work and it's nice but you have to be interested in a perfume like this otherwise you're not gonna like it.

spumyland

I have algae, citrus, driftwood, myrtle, whiffs of ambrette, cumin, then more woody with vetiver, oak, olibanum ...
The drydown is all bitter, metallic, with incense and plenty of ambrox notes.
Marine, masculine, fresh citrus, post gym, interchangeable with thousands of other fragrances.
boredom.

HEATHEN PERFUMES

My wooden boat rocks gently with the waves. Voices float over from the coast, soft, permeated by the sound of the sea. I look up at the sky, then back to the horizon, then up at the sky again. All these shades of blue... The clouds seem to be forming something, I can almost see it, but it does not condense, it takes refuge in the wind. The coast is close... but Is it? Am I sure? Just now my thoughts are elsewhere, but where... Sun, are you rising, or are you already sinking below the horizon?

Costa Azzura is out of this world. This combination of citrus notes paired with the various wood accords and rounded out with sea air is really like a dream. It is extremely balanced and multi-faceted. The fragrance has a very southern maritime flair and deserves its Italian concept.

Despite the slight vacation flair, it at the same time comes across serious and can be worn anywhere and around the clock without any issues. Its marine accord paired with its citrusy and woody freshness smells divine and is never too much.

A hymn to the Mediterranean coast. The scent transports you to a small, sandy beach, with rocks emerging from the sea, the sound of the waves breaking on shore cradles you as you lie on your back, soaking up the sun. You can almost feel your skin warming up.
There's a citrus grove nearby, you can tell by the intoxicating smell that fills the air; it is a sublime mixture of the bitter scent of lemon and tangerine peels, the smell of the warmth of the air, the soil, the rocks and the savory aroma of the sea.

Not necessarily a fragrance to wear, for me personally, but one that surely can transport your imagination very far away.

Hansolo

Very sharp, headache inducing, and masculine leaning in the opening but the drydown is beautiful and at this point starts to turn slightly unisex. Overpriced in my opinion and nothing too unique about it.

amedenica

I hate to admit to myself that some of these reviews below are on point. I was expecting I would love the fragrance, but as much as it's enjoyable and easy to wear, performance is lacking. I guess I can respray, but at this price point, I shouldn't have to. I'm going to give it 1-2 more wears before I decide whether to part with it.

Update: Got rid of it. Pleasant scent, just not a wow or longevity you'd expect for the price. Sorry Tom..

meroo

Got a sample, generally not the profile of scents that interests me. I asked my date what she thinks, her answer was literally “meh!!”.
Like all TF fragrances you can smell high quality, however, it’s not unique.

Fabienne LDLZR

Created and launched in 2021, it's a perfect replica of:

- "Aqva" Bvlgari
- "Aqva Marine" Bvlgari
- "Aqva Atlantiqve" Bvlgari
- "Aqua Di Gio ABSOLU" Armani
- "Aqua Di Gio PROFONDO LIGHTS" Armani
- "Aqua Di Gio ABSOLU INSTINCT" Armani

These 6 perfumes have a similar performance for 3x less expensive.

Is Tom Ford serious ?

Does he think nobody's going to notice... ?

Vikkinca

Tom Ford is probably my favourite fragrance House (I have more Tom Ford fragrances than any other designer), but Costa Azzura is a big disappointment for me, sadly. I am getting a coconut oil and sunscreen scent throughout with this one, and it is not pleasant. Adore the bottle, but unfortunately this one is not for me.

monkey500

TF’s Signature Costa Azzura smells better on paper than my skin… I get smoky Incense & Vetiver accented by whiffs of harbour seaweed that quickly becomes a discrete skin scent.

februarysfavourite

I sprayed this on my arm and my opinion completely changed.

At first I smelled this at Nordstrom on a card, and it was the perfect summer scent. However, after spraying it on my arm I'm sort of turned off by it. I really don't like the seaweed, I just don't think it should belong in a fragrance. The seaweed kicks in during the mid and dry-down despite it being listed as only a top note. This would've been much better if the seaweed was toned down, it starts smelling really briny and off putting after it dries down. There are floral nuances and a musky/woody undertone, both compounded with a nice refreshing blast of citrus, that are just ruined with a wave of briny seaweed.

Sniff123

Amazing fragrance. Smells like a medditerreanian beach/coast. I don't know how to better describe it, it's one of my summer-staples. I use it during the day, when the sun is shining, I think it fits perfectly in that regard. Leans masculine for me, nice and fresh. You can smell the ocean, driftwood, seaweed, a little tiny touch of oud, and minerals. It's a little bit of a "out-of-the-shower-smell", but with a great depth and many nuances. It's just an amazing fragrance smell-wise so to speak..

But, longevity isn't the greatest; and it's quite expensive like most TF's.. But again, you sort of get what you pay for: this is a fresh, clean
fragrance with Mediterranean-coast-vibes if that makes sense.. I got it as a gift from a friend and I simply adore it!

/Sniff

Candyandy

This smells like a more citrus forward flanker of Acqua Di Gio to me. But not in a bad way! Many fragrances get compared to AdG as an insult but I don't mean it that way. If this was an AdG flanker it would be a great one, much better than anything from the AdG line since Profumo.
This is a lot more citrusy and less marine/seaweed-y than the note breakdown would have you believe. I'm also surprised that people vote that this is similar to AdG Profumo. To me it is way closer to the original AdG.
Overall I like it. It makes a lot of sense to me they moved it from the Private Blend (more expensive) line to the Signature (less expensive but still kind of expensive) line. I don't think I would pay Private Blend price for Costa Azzura but the new price is much more reasonable. It's however still more expensive than AdG and even Profumo both of which I think are tough competition for this fragrance. The quality across the three scent is the same but you could get both AdGs for the same price as Costa Azzura which is a tough sell. But it's a nice scent by itself, I don't want to be to harsh on by comparing it to others. On it's own I like it, I just like AdG more and AdG also happens to cost less.

Mr. Boston

Aqua di Gio Profumo + incense x 2.

Joseebus

I mean it’s... fine. I wish the initial blast of sweet mandarin lasted longer because that’s actually really beautiful. Unfortunately, this fragrance dries down very quickly to a generic citrusy-woodsy cologne. And by the sixth hour this is completely gone. Gone from the skin and gone from the clothes.

CTH

Well it has not changed since the private blend and nothing has changed, very nice fragrance but universally for the high majority of reviewers from a large sample (see private blend page)the performance is rather poor.
The law of probability does not lie so test it and if your very lucky it may perform well for you, but its unlikely.

Peace

CDCD

This is a very masculine and classy fragrance. I love the gold bottle, better fits this kind of fragrance than the previous blue bottle. My wife and many coworkers of mine compliment this one. I will always have a bottle of this.

KwMoy

Well, its been a while since I wrote my last Review.
Today I went to Tom Ford boutique at Debenhams store. I remember once they had some Amber Absolute 2014 batch hidden in 1 L blacked glass container. So I asked them to refill my 50ml bottle, they said I should buy something from them so they can do that as a gift. I agreed and bought costa Azzura for around 200$ and I got my bottle filled for free!! Or maybe they forgot to charge me that. Anyway that was nice. The actual gift was the costa azzurra indeed. It is really great fragrance with a great performance. I wore it today beneath and on top of a linen shirt. It was walking with me around. Its not that strong but you can smell it at the and of the day.
Its tricky perfume. The big player there is “Incense”. When all the other notes go to sleep, incense will wake up. I will update you later when I learn more about it.

Miruna

I am not into TF's sweeter fragrances, not because they are not good (they are!) but because they're too much for me.
But this one is perfect. I will start by saying I am happy that I feel no oud. It is a woody, freshie, modern-classy, sort of a very refined cologne smell. Leans a tiny bit masculine, but I love it. I love it on me and I would love it on a man.
Smells really good, aromatic, natural and not obnoxious.
I think the only downside is that, for the same price, you can get something more potent.

lostsoul007

Very nice, natural smelling scent. Starts off very mellow, damp and woody then transitions slightly brighter as the cypress, lemon and mandarin come up from the mid. The artemisia and myrtle add a nice herbal culinary vibe to the mix, along with the clean, soapy lavender for a nice stable aromatic experience. It’s quite relaxing. The soft woody base is no different. The incense, olibanum, and mastic are blended perfectly with the vetiver and oak. In the air I pick up on a sweetness that has to be the vanilla but on skin I hardly smell it, much like the rest of the composition, it’s very subtle, leaving your skin smelling clean but earthy with a slight balsamic and resinous sweetness. Leaving some to believe I’m sure, that’s just how my skin smells lol.

This is a very gentlemanly fragrance suited best for a mature audience and professionals 25+ but has a sexiness to it. I wouldn’t be surprised if the man himself, Mr. Ford, chose this to wear for his daily driver as this could easily be a signature scent to those looking for a timeless, modern, and effortless fragrance that doesn’t enter the room before them. Although this may be a bit too quite for him. As mentioned, this is a very subtle perfume with a short lived projection. However, this will be discovered on you, not announced, and when they do it will leave those with a very positive impression of you, displaying confidence and style. Nothing about this perfume screams out at you, it’s just an accentuation, like a small tattoo on a woman’s wrist or behind her ear.

I’ve read some reviews saying this is a generic or boring scent and maybe it is, but I have nothing in my collection that really smells like this so it’s hard for me to compare it to anything. Maybe those who like Dior Homme, Acqua Di Gio Profumo, Bottega Veneta Pour Homme, Oud Wood, Straight to Heaven Extreme... I’m sure there are some that are closer, like the OG but I don’t have it so this is good for me.

So, is this good for you and is it something you should run out and buy? Not sure. If any of what I’ve mentioned sounds good to you then yeah, go for it, but some may be dissatisfied with the performance. I myself wouldn’t be upset if it were a little stronger, because it’s a very pleasant smell, I like what I’m smelling, but it’s fairly short lived.

With that said, if I were to rate it I would have to knock off a couple points for its longevity and projection, especially when you take the price into account. Although it’s been repackaged and cheaper than the original private blend, it’s still over $100 for a 50mL which will go rather quickly if you want to smell yourself throughout the day to experience the scent and have it last by spraying yourself 20x, otherwise what’s the point? In that case I can spend an additional $25 and get a 50mL extrait of Nishane or 100mL Bleu De Chanel Parfum and get my money’s worth...

Gelatoni

It's a slighty warmer, sunnier version of "Kenzo pour Homme". Would indeed make a great flanker of it with the name "Kenzo Azzura" or just plain "Kenzo Summer".

Sadly it's boring as it sounds. "Kenzo pour Homme" is a great and game-changing milestone of a scent, but who needs a 8th flanker (7 already exist) of the same scent? Not to mention the umpteen imitators over the last 20 years.

The scent itself is made of aquatic sea notes, dry woods like pine and sandalwood and has, like the original, a clean, cool metallic feel to it. Would anytime prefer "Kenzo pour Homme". Despite Costa Azzura is just a ripoff. Way overpriced.

a7_mad1991

Vintage excellence.
A familiar scent, top notch quality.
Summery/work casual.
Not very 'fresh' in the typical sense.

fragrances-fanatic

I don't find this super lemony, but I do get some herbal tea vibes and definite aquatic notes. Refreshing and sophisticated without being "old." Leans ever-so-slightly masculine IMO. Really like this one.

mo choudhury

tom ford fan and I'm not too sure what to say about this one.
I'm honestly going say it reminds me of Gucci guilty pour homme EDP with that salty balsamic vinegar vibe. and I didn't really enjoy that.

if you want a fresher side of tom ford go for either
Beau De Jour, Grey Vetiver, TF for men or Noir EDT if you can get your hands on that.

just like Gucci guilty, it's meh from me for this one.

edit 17/5/21
yes ok it's starting to grow on me.
it's gone from ok to like now.

I find this too heavy for an aquatic fragrance. To me there is something off-putting from the opening to the heart. Maybe that oud and celery seeds in the opening of a fresh fragrance do not work. I smell no lemon, that pungent opening overpowers everything. An overall car freshener scent that is too piercing, or something like an ambrox bomb although nothing like that is listed. Sorry, I got this along with Beau De Jour as samples but BDJ is miles better and pleasant than this. I get the comparisons with ADGP but that is also more rounded. I generally appreciate TF but this is not for me.

Ambroxer before me did such a great review before me that i completely agree with. It is such a nice, pleasant, mature fragrance ( not older person type, just a more serious fragrance ) and it's something that anyone will be pleased with.

I get reminded of tea ( herbal types ) with this one, it's just a good fragrance.

Time to wear, Spring. It has that eye opener feel to it and it's a bit strong to be in hot weather.

When life gives you lemons, you’re on your way to Costa Azzurra. There are lots and lots of lemons at the outset, and they can be rather knifelike. Stay with it though and let everything settle for a few minutes. Incense and cypress serve to tone down the lemons and make for a sunshiny, regal aquatic. It’s almost like a smoky lemonade that is both luxurious and laid back. For comparisons, Costa Azzurra, in my mind, is brighter and fruitier than Acqua di Gio Profumo and also less salty, but the resemblance is there if you really want to search for it. They’re like distant cousins that grow further apart as Costa Azzurra dries down. Mandarin takes a prominent role at this phase to me and begins to mingle with the lemons, creating a much sweeter scent of clear blue waters infused with incense and woody resins. Whenever the fragrance gifts you a deep inhalation of this, it is positively sublime.

At their best, fragrances can evoke something within us. A memory, emotion or attitude. What Costa Azzurra evokes in me is the memory of the weekends of my 20s brunching in and around Los Angeles’ beaches. The lemon and mandarin from an open air kitchen or dressing of an artisanal salad, wood from the custom crafted table and rustic restaurant interior, incense as a perennial piece of the neighborhood ambiance. Costa Azzurra works well as a Sunday Funday, bougie brunch kind of fragrance. A compliment to that time in life when you’re beginning to have some money of your own, but not using it for anything responsible.

Despite this praise, I can’t help but be mindful of the drawbacks in Costa Azzurra. It is very fleeting and feels rather flat when inside. I have my suspicions it would be quite difficult for anyone else to pickup, and have grown to think of it as a personal scent. Those lemons can also be quite strident. When this juice is pumping though and giving you a full flavored taste of what it has to offer, there is magic here. Sadly, that seems to require assistance from an ocean breeze. Costa Azzurra benefits greatly from living close to the sea to experience the full effect and make it worth the price of admission.

Zero projection after 5 minutes. If you want driftwood go for L'Occitane Bois Flotté Eau de Parfum.

I am a woman and I purchased this at Dillards thinking it smelled wonderful. However, it is going back tomorrow. To me it reminds me of a young man; maybe a handsome lifeguard on the beach. If I were a young woman I would definitely find this attractive on a young man.

The second I sprayed this on I instantly knew I had smelled it before, it took ages for my brain to tick over and then I realised that not only had I smelled this before, I'd had it, years ago at uni but that was impossible, it wasn't released but something else was. Hugo by Hugo Boss. Though it's been a long time since I've had a sniff of Hugo as far as I can remember they are virtually identical. Nothing wrong with this frag at all, I'm only rating it as ok though because of the rather obvious inspirational from a long established scent. If you like this and aren't bothered by not having TF on the bottle then save yourself some cash and get a bottle of Hugo.

I expected to love Costa Azzurra, given how much I enjoy the Signature Line Beau de Jour, but was a bit disappointed. I think making a more expensive fragrance works well for more cold weather scents, as they can use the money to make it darker, richer, and more interesting. With expensive summer fragrances, I imagine it's harder - how can you make it richer to justify the price without it becoming too heavy? When I first smelled this, I thought they'd managed it. In the opening, you get the citruses you'd expect, along with so many woody, spicy, interesting notes - mostly oud, driftwood, cardamom, and cypress for me. Even with the heavier notes, it still smells fresh and summery, but so interesting and exciting. While they don't smell alike, it had the same vibe that makes Acqua di Gio Profumo great - citrusy and fresh with some earthiness and woodiness to give it depth. But after the opening, Costa Azzurra went in the wrong direction - for me, most of the interesting accords almost completely subsided, and I was left with a prominent lemon note, with a little bit of cypress and incense, and it came across very dry. Lemon can sometimes smell a bit clinical, and I do get that a little bit here too.

While Acqua di Gio Profumo starts citrusy and fresh and then gets deeper and more interesting, Costa Azzurra seems to start interesting and then turn into a more boring, citrus scent. On top of that, for me the longevity is moderate at best, and it sits close to the skin from the start. It's such a shame because I love the idea of bringing fragrances out of the Private Line and rebranding them into the Signature Line - it makes luxury fragrance more accessible to more people - but I think Costa Azzurra misses the mark a bit. Of course, it still smells great, and the top note is amazing, but against the enormity of my expectations given Beau de Jour, and Tom Ford as a whole, I was disappointed. Still nice, though.

This is my signature scent. It’s my #1 of all time, and yes I know it’s not the best fragrance ever. But it’s salty/woody, citrus, aquatic with the proper amount of sweetness to combine with all of that. I’m a huge fan of the original so I ordered it within minutes of it being out, but you could wait for fragrance net or something. Fantastic stuff. Blended very well and I wish I smelled like this all the time. I pair this with molecule 01 and it just doesn’t miss.

Edit : The driftwood in this is spectacular.

Marky_82

Just got a sample of this in. Some mixed reviews below saying blue fragrance, or citrus. On my skin and to my nose it smells very green, that cypress really comes through. Once I smelled it, it kept reminding me of something and I kept racking my brains until it popped, it's very similar to Issey Miyake L'Eau Bleue d'Issey. They share similar notes but the main player is that Cypress to me. I sprayed them both on my different hands to compare and you can pick out the similarities but also the differences, both are nice scents. If you want something of a similar scent profile but costs much less, go for the Issey Miyake.

Perrynelson777

I really enjoy this one. The opening is magical and last a solid 20seconds until it forms into something else. The only Oud I get in here is during that opening. It projects around 3 hours and then it sits on the skin until the 5 hour mark. This is probably my favorite fresh Tom Ford fragrance. Thankfully it's now at a more affordable price.

sameenuk

I had a tester of this. I'm not impressed. Just the opening is way over the top. This has some kind of pungent note in it which unfortunately lasts a while. I'd like to believe its the tester. It reminded a bit of horizon by hermes

Seuni

Cool, unique, unisex. Sits closer to the skin after 2 hours, sillage is medium/moderate, projection stops after 2h (maybe arms length). For the first hour and a half it has an (for me) unpleasant fishy undertone.

Ahntu

This fragrance is generic but in a good way. Many fragrances are similar to this one and it doesn’t stand out at all but I still can enjoy it. It’s fresh, citrusy, aromatic and slightly aquatic to my nose. I can see myself wearing this for the gym or office without offending anyone. It’s like a well baked Vitoria sponge, classic and delicious, everyone can enjoy it. It does lean masculine to me.

WOW, I think we got a winner over here!!! The same note spread an almost identical smell for the half price!!!
My initial reaction to the discontinuation of the private blend Costa Azzurra was a bunch of mixed emotions. Yes, I can admit I wasn't happy at all, now, I can understand how wise are those people in the house of Tom Ford. You get the same note spread as in private blend fragrance then somehow they put it into a much better-advertised package that would suit more people's needs and budget. When I sprayed the new Costa Azzurra the first time I felt it isn't exactly the same fragrance. Today, I did a test with the blue bottle Eau de perfume version of Costa Azzurra from the private blend collection, and a half-hour later I sprayed on the different arm the newer version and the fragrance vibe was almost identical. Yes, of course, there will be always a $$$ factor, we would naturally lean towards the more expensive option if we have to choose from but this two are very very very close indeed. What I can say for sure that we lose with the new version maybe 10% longevity and 15% projection that's all. Well, for half the price of the private blend version I think we can live with the new version just fine. I highly recommend to everyone to try the new versions for themselves, I'm lovin' it...

It surprised me in a very positive way. To be honest, I don’t really see this as a “blue” scent at all. I don’t know why (not similar notes) it reminds me to Herrera for Men by Carolina Herrera, the original from the 90’s. Very woody, very manly, very 90’s. Good projection, at least on my skin, and very good longevity. What a great purchase!

sami66436

This smells great, main notes of driftwood, lemon, cypress, and seaweed. Definitely a male fragrance, I don’t think this would suit a woman.

Unfortunately the longevity is terrible for the price, it lasts about 3 hours and for the price you should get much more.

This is too expensive at retail, it is not worth buying until it hits discounters at a good price.

josh.moore27

There are a few private blends that I haven’t tried which are Lys Fume, Fleur De Chine and for some reason Costa Azzura (though widely available). I guess I slept on it as I always assumed it would be another redundant release in the “Neroli Portofino” collection, which to my nose, all smell really similar. Fast forward to 2021 and this gets moved to the signature line in the same way Beau de Jour and Ombré Leather have so it peaked my interest and I went and blind bought a bottle as the pricing was much more reasonable. Wow. This is an absolute stunner and going to be my go-to along with Millesimal Imperial for the hot Summer days. You get a super realistic salty marine opening with the seaweed and driftwood but there is sweetness lurking underneath with some green elements. Later on, a very seductive vanilla lingers with that salty aroma still at play. This is one of the most transportive, sexy and unique summer fragrances I have ever tried and without a doubt my best blind buy.

Must Try.

I tried it yesterday, find it to be very nice fragrance, Very citrusy and fresh, But how does the driftwood smells ? Wet , rotten ?
Like most of the TF creations it is classy.
Longevity is not too long, almost like toilet water .
I wish it will have more standing out name too ...

Right off the bat have to say I never smelled the private line version, so I can’t say about any changes or drift. I did smell the aqua, which I did like, but felt it smelled too designer to be on the private line.

When this went to the signature line, with the added notes, in a night which I was 4 drinks in I went online and pulled the trigger, blind bought it. And it came today!

On the tester strip, really liked it, kinda in the league of acqua di gio perfumo (it doesn’t smell like that, wait for it) where it’s balancing a light aquatic with some heavy notes to give it more depth.

Opening on my skin, the wood notes jumped out at me, but after a few minutes it settled down and the nice balance was back.

It still smells a little designerish to me, but I do believe it is solid and warrants the price. Projection and longevity are decent, not beast mode, but pretty good.

My issue with it is when I started thinking out best times to wear it...signature? Sure, but if I were to have a signature scent there are other things I’d pick....office? Definitely but I’d pick x, y, z before it....date/night? Absolutely but I’d probably wear.....see where I’m going with this?

Not a dumb reach fragrance by any means, and again solid purchase, but not anything jaw dropping, must have. If I had to assign a number value to rate it....hmmm....firm 7/10

Just got my bottle yesterday (the blue glass bottle version). Upon first few minutes, the scent is nice and really reminds me of something... the feeling is like old fond memories gushing back and I can't stop going back to keep sniffing. Love how it transit from the top notes to the middle notes, its like magic. Costa Azzurra does gives me a feel like the milder and softer version of Oud Wood.

shinobi407fla4e

I love this juice! This is defiantly a blue fragrance but it's a unique one. I'm very picky when it comes to blue fragrances. I have Bleu de Channel edp, Sauvage edt, and Dylan Blue. Honestly, imo if you have these 3 you don't need any other but when Costa Azzurra hits the discounters it will be in my collection.

When a private blend perfume bounce to signature line means that the quality is lower?

candyfluff

Sounds very nice. I didn't bother reading the notes when it was presented in the other bottle. Do not know why.

spcmiller

First Beau de Jour, and now Costa Azzurra; bounced from the PB line to the signature line. It seems that Estee Lauder is juggling these scents around trying to find a profitable line to stick them in.

I just saw it at Nordstrom for $184/100mls.

What would be the criteria for some private blends to go to the "regular" line?...
