Bradley Cooper is headed back to the kitchen.

As the four-time Oscar nominee, 40, explained to Details, his latest role in October’s “Burnt” is a return to his roots.

“I worked for most of my life as a cook,” the actor told the magazine. “When I was 15, I was a busboy at a Greek restaurant and then I worked as a prep cook through college. My mother’s side is Italian, so I grew up cooking all the time with my grandmother.”

In the film, which co-stars Sienna Miller, Cooper plays a once-promising chef attempting to rebuild his career after it was derailed by substance abuse and hard living.

Irina Shayk’s boyfriend’s cooking background came in handy while filming “Burnt,” which was shot between “American Sniper” and the latest Broadway production of “The Elephant Man.”

“Thank God the role was a chef, because I didn’t have much time to prep,” he said. “There’s no stunt double. Everything in there I’m cooking.”

The role isn’t the first time the prolific thespian has portrayed a chef on camera. Cooper also starred in the short-lived 2005 sitcom “Kitchen Confidential,” which was based on Anthony Bourdain’s memoir of the same name.

“Burnt” hits theaters on Oct. 23.
