Came out in 1995, but smells like some herbal, clean & fresh bath & body products from the 70s-80s. I’m specifically thinking of a shampoo from the early 80s called For Oily Hair Only, which had a clean, herbal, “green” scent like this. There also used to be a soap called Shield, the one manufactured in the US by Unilever from 1976- early 00s, that had a similar scent. I find this scent to be both refreshing and nostalgic. Haven’t seen this in the US, so I buy it from makeupstore, which imports from Poland.

This is Irish Spring Soap in a bottle, very green, citrusy and soapy in a good way. I love it, It doesn't irritate my nose, i feel like i literally stepped out of the shower, this will be something id be wearing for the entire summer. Scent develops into a musky scent after 3-4 hours, longevity is okay, but i got compliments!

Got it today in the post. As much as you can't go wrong with the price, to my nose this smells like a fresh shower gel for men! I don't smell much feminity in it so gave it to my husband to use it for bed time.

There is also another Coty called chanson d’eau Mare Azul. Same bottle but blue color. Not yet in the DB?
It’s basically some musk with sugared orange citrus, light, warm and graceful.

my mom got this back in 99 and she still has some juice left. ill update this

update: its as sour as i remember, found it in a shop aswell and its the same scent as back then. blast of sourness and 90's but as soon as mom smelled my wrist (i didnt give her more than a fraction of a second) she recognized it instantly heh

After years and years of absently looking at this green bottle in the boudoir of my mother's perfumes, until one day I decided to take it out and looked at it better ... "Chanson d’Eau" a French name !? Strange… I thought (in my ignorance) it will be an occasion or a recycled gift !? read the label below ... COTY !!! How COTY !!!? I asked for further explanations to my mother who candidly replied: She is there she forgot Paola years ago (ex-wife of my brother) she probably didn't like it (having received it as a gift in turn) she never claimed it in the time it remained there .... Anyway !!! I tried it immediately and was dazzled: At the juste pulvérisé very fresh triumphant notes of citrus flooded my sensory (now after years and years almost a green distillate) at the dry aromatic basil emerged in all its magnificence with delicate floral notes of lavender and jasmine … I was amazed… This fragrance is crazy !!! At the unmistakable dry down, the warm and enveloping base of sandalwood and Tonka bean. Naturally my investigations deepened here on Fragrantica and I noted that it is a fragrance from 1995 (in full fruity era - gourmand) that is much loved, at low cost. Fragrance with an aromatic, fresh, green Sillage, fragile and evanescent duration. Democratic price. I guarantee you that it keeps splendidly even after years of total stasis. Chapeau Coty

Well this is a trip!

I found the full set of the notes in this on another site and now it makes much more sense, because honestly the notes listed here might be misleading on what this actually smells like.

Top notes: mint, basil, mandarin, lemon, bergamot, orange, lavender, hyacinth
Middle notes: Jasmin, ylang ylang, lily of the valley, mango, pineapple, green cardamom
Base notes: iris, sandalwood, bamboo, musk, tonka bean

First spray. BOOM! An explosion of greenness and citrus! At first you get grass. Very quickly that turns to zesty lime. Zingy lime sorbet sprinkled with blades of fresh green grass. The lime vibe must come from the lemon and bergamot?! The tangy sorbet probably from pineapple. Then after not too long it calms down to a gentle green, citrusy quietly floral skin scent. Super clean and super fresh, without smelling like washing up liquid. A tad detergenty but only in that you’ll have a bit of a fresh laundry smell about you.

It’s so pretty! I’m enjoying wearing it today but I suspect this will be wonderful on very hot days. I’m so glad I bought it that I’m already considering getting a 200ml bottle to store in case it isn’t in production anymore.

If had a good comparison I’d let you know, but this is unusual in many ways. However I think it would be a safe bet if you like Elizabeth Arden green tea, as that also dries down to more of a clean skin scent, this this one is way less herbal and musky.

''Chanson d'Eau'' [I have the parfum deodorant natural spray] is a beautiful light, citrusy, fresh spicy, clean, fresh, shampooish scent. I can smell a lot of lavender, mandarin orange, some sweetness and sandalwood. As it dries down it gets lighter and creamier. It's a beautiful innofensive scent that a lot of people will like. I think that it could be unisex too. It reminds me of a beautiful, creamy, lavender body wash that I used to have. I'm not sure which one, but I think it is ''Palmolive Sunset Relax with lavender shower gel''. It smells exactly the same. Beautiful lavender, relaxing scent, for both women and men. Longevity is okay and sillage is intimate. It sits close to the skin. By the way follow me on Instagram, on Twitter and on My YouTube channel Catherine Ntemou

UPDATE. I don’t like this perfume. It’s WAY TOO MASCULINE for me….. I can’t wear it…… A failed BLIND BUY…..

A lovely fresh, green fragrance which I'm loving at the moment. I remember having this years ago (in my teens) then somehow forgot about it until I saw it pop up on ebay. Got a 200ml bottle for just over £8. Was hoping it would be as nice as I remembered - it's even better. So glad I bought it. In fact I've ordered another one 😊 it lasts ages on me and I certainly won't be forgetting about this little beauty ever again. Excellent value for money.

O de Lancome meets Dove. Very fresh with a creamy undercurrent, I’m enjoying it in hot, still weather. A nice find for 6 euros!

This is my favourite scent for hot summer days and I have just ordered a gift set off the internet as we are having a very hot summer here in the UK! Chanson D'Eau is fresh, minty, lemony sherbetty - just divine when you want to wear a light perfume which is not overpowering but yet lasts all day. I first tried it after seeing reviews on Fragrantica and I'm so glad I did! Have a go, you won't be disappointed!

esikko

For me this is an absolute classic. It's cheap, it's from the 90s, it has crazy good longevity for a green perfume of that price. One of my and my Mama's all-time favourites - a go-to perfume when nothing else works. It's herbal, green, uplifting like a classic cologne, but like I said – the sillage and longevity is far better than a cologne. If you don't know it and you love green, fresh scents - go for it and blind buy!

meliecat

I only have the natural spray and deodorant set, haven't seen the edt for a very long time..

This is fresh, with barely anything sweet going on. Like fresh cut grass with lemon peel and garden herbs and juniper (i get no lavender) really refreshing, almost like a mojito! I'd say brings Eau d' Rochas to mind even for a split second, so if you're a fan give this a go too. This is a budget scent you'd be grateful for in the summer heat when everything else is annoyingly sticky and sweet. I think men could give this a go too - the drydown is kind of unisex in my book!

Vanilla panda

Running errands that day in Mercadona (a Spanish supermarket very popular for their in-house toiletry) may have triggered my fancy for a fresh, revigorating scent!

That pretty depolished green bottle caught my eye.
I've tried the tester under its splash form and adored the burst of aromatic citrus straight away!

Then, I spontaneously bought a Chanson d'Eau gift set containing: that pretty 100ml glass bottle spray, a cute 15ml travel spray, an enormous-sized deodorant spray and 200ml shower gel.

Full price was between 8-10 euros, can't remember exactly. Still, it's incredibly cheap, even for Spain!
It’s available as we speak.

That juice is very very good, which proves further that high price point doesn't have to be the crucial quality denominator.

It opens with cheerful citrus, clean lavender. So pleasant.
Then, it warms down to mandarin peel, basil and woods.

I'm not a super fan of basil in perfumes in general, it smells too warm, intrusive and masculine on me.
But I recognize it gives some personality.

I wish the cardamom was incisive, that would cut down the warmth from basil.

What a shock discovering mango among the notes!
Although I can't get mango, I guess it's that ingredient that lends that ever so light sweetness in the dry down.

Sillage is quite strong. I must take it easy with spraying because that basil will give me headaches otherwise.

Longevity is fine. The aromatic (basil again!) and woody parts are very heavy on clothing.

I'd consider that juice unisex

ADD ON: paired with Demeter's Thunderstorm, it makes the latter wearable. I would go as far as to say it saves it.

More details on that under my review on Demeter's Thunderstorm ;)

The smell of my youth....I had this perfume about 15 years ago when I was 14-15 years old and I couldn`t afford an expensive perfume... it smell as green stuff, very fresh. Still like it. I think that I`ll buy it again.

Albin

I just saw 100ml for 5€ on a discounter. For that price this is a masterpiece. :D

Lovely.

SzekelyEmoke

Used to wear this in school, and now is my mother's signature fragrance. Timeless and lovely. Very recognizable! :)

TanteSimone

This smells like fresh, herbal water. It is a timeless fragrance that is perfect for really hot days. However its lasting power is poor for an EDT. If it stayed longer on my skin, it would be a staple for me. I guess I won't repurchase.

Eneli

Cotys Chanson d'Eau was my very first perfume.
I grew up in an small town in Estonia at the time of soviet union and all I had previously smelled was some awful russian colognes. A common small town woman had no knowledge of Shalimar or Samsara at that time.
I purchased this perfume from the local grocery store. It was years and years ago and I can't really remember how it smelled. But I do remember that I wasn't very impressed even back then. I have seen this for sale for a very low price but I'm sure I won't be buying this, not even for the childhood nostalgias sake.

Leadark

They gave me a big bottle, I would not have purchased this drunk.
It's like pure insecticide lemon spray yourself.
Horrible. I threw the bottle straight.
It should be up prohibited without a warning label as neurotoxic.
If you have cockroaches at home ... pour it die insurance.

smelling_gr8

There is nothing in the world like Chanson d'Eau....la la la lalalala ....sorry it HAD to be said!
Wow I loved this fragrance in my 20s, so fresh, so crisp, amazing simplicity and cheap. Still can be obtained cheaply on amazon. Go for it, you can't go wrong. Happy memories indeed.

pushya

I think It is the best chanson d' something. Fresh, green, gentle. It's not unnecessary sweet like today's perfumes. I'm still keeping a big bottle. It reminds me of my own freshness.Very young, very innocent, very romantic, very hopefull times.

LadyPilot

I can't imagine not having this in my wardrobe, even if I were to use it once a year! When winter comes to an end and the world around is grey, but the warm and humid wind from the Atlantic brings some fresh drizzle and thus gives me the hope for the spring, this is the time for Chanson d'Eau. And so it has been for the past 17 years:)

emi

I could swear I detect musk in it.

LaPetite

Oooh , how I remember this.... One of those inexpensive supermarket and yet fantastic smelling perfume.
It was one of those typical summer scents, refreshing, aquatic ,fruity and yet NOT sticky sweet. Really loved it .
In France we had a terrible catchy annoying TV ad for this perfume >
