Many years ago I was in love with YSL ILA. I've never smelled it since it was re-launched, but Bazar swept me from my feet upon the first sniff by its similarity with the old ILA! On the skin, there's a little difference, but still, it's the closest you can get. Even twenty years later I can tell that's it. The difference could be the pepper - it's something a bit edgy and cold. The old ILA was more rounded, as far as I can remember.
Anyway, for those who don't remember the old In Love Again, it's the perfect summer perfume (not in an Arabic kind of way). But don't be mistaken - I wouldn't say it's a safe blind buy. It's rather strong and even though it leans on the romantic, feminine side, I can imagine not everybody can wear it. If you are not fond of powerful floral scents, don't even try :) There's nothing musky, powdery or soft about it, it's just green leaves, strong flowers, and a pinch of pepper.

After testing this perfume out many times I can now safely say that is a dislike. It's not a horrible fragrance per day, but the problem I have with it is that it's extremely strong (and I mean strong!) and this makes it hard to.wear. Now if it was a lot more subtle, I could like it.

To me this is a unisex scent, actually leaning more masculine. What does it smell like? I get more than anything a strong, bitter orange with a big dose of pepper. No other notes are discernible to me.The dry down reminds me of a men's deodorant. Unfortunately this was yet another blind buy fail.

But how beautiful is this perfume, as soon as I sprayed it I loved it, I mainly smell a spicy orange, then a swirl of sweet fruit, lots of apricot, I would have sworn also some osmanthus, thanks to tropical flowers such as hibiscus and Frangipani, they certainly strengthen a background already fruity on its own, very nice especially if you love perfumes that smell of apricot

I have a 2018 batch and I'm not sure if this has been reformulated over the years (I'm assuming it has) but this comes off a bit screechy to me (or maybe this is how it’s supposed to smell). Not as bad as some designer scents, but this is nothing like Christian Lacroix EDP, which comes close to being a masterpiece.

Oh my God! This is nuclear. Someone said she wish the staying power and sillage would have been greater. Greater than staying on the blouse so strong even I have washed it??? I didn't have any perfume with so huge persistence and a sillage that fills the apartment.

☀️🍑🌼🍹 Oooohhhh I like this a lot! I had to comment immediately, but will try to come back and update soon with more wear testing… it is a bomb of juicy nectarine for me from the first spray, powerful and beautiful from the get go, but not at all linear or boring! very slight edge of spice amongst sparkling, dewy florals with green notes poking through and although I get the gin and tonic comment someone below mentioned, I would say a much more exciting, slightly tropical cocktail!

I was wondering if it would be too powdery for me and too ‘powdery floral’ but it’s not at all, it’s blended beautifully and it’s fresh, sexy (in a casual way), and happy! It is giving me Friday cocktails in the sunshine vibes - even though it’s a freezing and grey Friday in feb here!

It was a blind buy and a random choice from me, something intrigued me about it, and it’s a fairly rare find I’ve not heard of before, but I’m glad I decided to take the risk. Also I don’t believe anyone could find this overpowering or offensive, so it’s a winner for me - hoping it lasts and will update ☀️🍑🌼🍹

Boy I feel so lucky to have found a 50 ml of this rarity in tk maxx. It smells very much like In Love Again by YSL but is a tad more spicier/aromatic. This is so unique in its own right though and believe me this is much better than 90 % of the fragrances released in the past 15 years. I only wish the staying power and projection were greater.

While perhaps not for everyone, and not a perfume I need to own and wear every day, I have thought fondly on occasion of the discount bottle I got at TJ Hughes many years ago, now long gone. I was delighted to find that Lovely by Al-rehab, a cheapie rollerball I blind bought off eBay which arrived today, smells similar. I couldn't describe the smell better than Frangipanilove below, it is a heady, exotic, beguiling, predominantly orange and tropical fruit smell. I was also delighted to just discover they have resurrected Bazar, and I can buy it again if I choose on the internet. I'll just stick with Lovely for the moment though.

Frangipanilove

Its lovely. Strange balance between spice from the pepper and citrus but sweet citrus (orange) and florals. Not one of these facets dominating the others and not one thing taking the centre space. As a colour, this would be deep orange like its packaging, the orange citrus and the nasturtiums listed in the notes, with a dash of fresh black pepper. Does not project much but sits close to its wearer. Not one of these I have to have this scents but nevertheless a lovely one. Equal day and night, equal fresh and sweetness, equal flower and spice. The drydown is lovely, more floral and a tiny bit powdery with the sharpness from the pepper persisting. Nice to be in.

Bazar is getting harder to find, prompting me to buy my first bottle blind. I’ve always been curious as this perfume is often compared to a longtime favorite, the original In Love Again by Jean-Claude Elena.

So how do they compare? The most obvious difference is that Bazar has a dominant pepper note in the opening, while ILA has the tomato leaf note. They are both fruity florals with similar structures, but the notes—and how they are combined—separate them.

I like them both equally; one does not replace the other.

Neither smells dated to me. I consider Bazar more niche as it feels like it’s sitting just outside mainstream perfumery. A little bit of a weirdo, reflected in the bottle design, name and mix of two maestros: Elena and Duchaufour, and a third Emilie Copperman. Maybe three chefs stirring the creative pot resulted in the “Bazar” effect. Anyhow it works, and Bazar is fun to wear, performance is decent, silage stays close.

The obvious crowd pleaser is In Love Again, a more acceptable, easy to love perfume. This one will always take me back to my late 90s broken heart, when I was not “In Love” but wanted to be.

elenaela2000

Two of my favorite noses - Bertrand Duchaufour and Jean-Claude Ellena - in a single perfume! I had to have this, even if I wear this perfume only a couple of days a year, usually in the spring. Not a masterpiece, but it has something special - maybe a little bit of nostalgia that makes me coming back. Reminds me a lot of „In love again”, which is my favorit spring perfume. Bazar it's not expensive, so it worth give it a try.

manpen

The first notes literally made my head recoil - an absolutely HUGE hit of spicy citrus - to me at least much more the bitterest Lemons rather than Oranges. Then, it becomes the lemon slice floating in your G&T - losing it's edginess but not its character. The Lemon stays for an hour or two on me - gradually allowing something like the wet tangle of nettle leaves to come to the fore. No sting to these nettles though - just the warming comfort of a day in nature - a joy in the smells of the natural world sitting on your arm. Lasts 4 to 6 hours on me, never really projects but is lovely to snuggle up to - even if only with yourself :-) In it's own little aroma space this feels like a little masterpiece - grab some if you see it. BTW I am a man in my 60's and I would say this is strongly Unisex - throw off your preconceptions - anyone can wear this. I wouldn't really call it a 'freshy' however, this feels like an unusual, but blended perfume balance and, ultimately, a beautiful creation. I LOVE this scent. Another great perfume lost to the mists of time were it not for its many supporters on places like Fragrantica. I haven't really smelled anything quite like this - I'm sure it's not entirely unique but it certainly proudly struts its stuff as far from usual.

Amy Ann

A cypress with white flowers and an orange blossom that simply burns the nose when freshly sprayed. It's the only scent I've ever felt with such a strong orange blossom, what is actually very strange but not necessarily bad is that the tip is very strong but the middle and the base are powdered very close to the skin. Not bad at all on general, it reminds me of a J'adore with something from the classic Amarige probably the orange blossom. It's not necessarily a feminist perfume, so it's not for me, but it's not bad.For a woman who does not necessarily want to transmit power, it is a very pleasant perfume.

gtabasso

I love this and love that it isn't oakmoss dominant. It is vintage. I adore the bottle cap and packaging. This goes on a very sweet vintage fruity floral with a sharp aspect. Out of the gate it is cassia leaf, peach and pepper. Then, I smell some of the florals. All are role players except orange blossom and jasmine. There is a bit of sourness throughout this fragrance. Like rotten fruit in a way. And, it's sharp. In the base, the woods dominate the flowers.

kati77

A floral green indeed.
A nice green cassia leafs. A warmth of peach, a hint o flowers. Good for spring, good for rainy days. I dont know why i got impression there's a green tea in it.
But its discontinued so i finished a sample and thats it for me, i can not become attached to it.

natluvly

Blind bought this today for $9.99 for a 1oz. At first I sprayed this on a tissue and couldn't smell it well. Next I sprayed this on the back of my hand and I am currently testing it. Upon first impressions this reminded me of Burberry Touch for women. This is what I wanted that one to smell like...that fresh green scent without the raspberry sweet note. I could see this being worn in the fall and winter. Smells cozy to me. Not a bad smell but I will update.

Fluffyandpuffy

God I do love this! It just makes me happy. It's fresh, it's sweet, I can't get enough!

elzig

I love it! I also love Gucci Envy me perfume and it smells quite similar although Bazar has a soapy warmth to it which smells like balsam to my nose. I wear this any month just like gucci envy me as it smells feminine, sparkly, w/green floral I use this as a daytime perfume.

shushkin

Its pretty obvious that I love the fragrances BD creates. I would not have blind bought if it wasnt a BD creation. This is very nice and on the opening I can immediately see the YSL ILA similarity but this is a much more woody and less sweet. Fresh, fruity floral with some kick from the peppery notes. Lovely for warm days. Most definitely fresh with a touch of fruit and flowers. For a minute or two I thought there was a bit of tomato leaf but its not listed. It must be an illusion created by the cassia. There is the perfect amount of pepper and nasturtium to give the right amount of kick to balance the sweetness of the fruit notes. This is an excellent quality cheapy and its so sad that it is discontinued. Good sillage and longevity.

smellit

Joy and happiness made fragrance.
It´s a pitty that Bazar is discontinued, although it is easy buy it on internet

Tussa

I quit blind buying since many of them turned out to be bad decision. But since I saw that 35 people find it similar to YSL ILA, I will do it again. It is not widely available for testing and it is very good price, so I go for it and update soon.

UPDATE
Unfortunately, I couldn't find any similarity with YSL ILA :-(
It smells though quite unique, I find it clean and woody at the same time, quite interesting. It has also good silage and longevity, but there is some note in base that bothers me. I will pass it as a gift or if anyone interested in swap (30ml full, boxed) for anything else, just PM me.

meliecat

It was about 10 years ago that I found it on sale somewhere, and as the name sounded `retro` to me - I remembered it from my childhood - I got a 50 ml bottle.

I remember it was musky-ambery, spicy and floral with a hint of fruit in it at the same time, but with an unusually youthful twist to it, maybe a hint of orange zest? It isn`t the way I`d imagine walking through the bazaar, but definitely has an oriental vibe. Again, not happy that they discontinued it..Much more prefer it to any sugary-sweet fragrance on the market today..

craftymaya

I really enjoyed the very nice and happy opening, especially with a little sour note (which one?) that gives a fizzy start. After a couple minutes, very quickly, the scent becomes more and more floral, which I don't really like. The pepper kicks in, in the dry down, and the whole thing turns, then, into a common scent. Disappointed by this one... but I must say that I am hard to please when it comes to perfumes :)

Rochellesc

First, let me confess, ever since CL's Eau Florale hit me like a lilac Bush to the face almost 15 years ago, i've been a sucker for anything I can find on the cheap that is from this House. I regularly stop in to Ross and TJ Maxx to see what treasure I might be able to pick up for under $20 to increase my already ridiculous perfume collection. I was just about to turn and leave the store when I saw this strange little cylindrical container and one of their plastic security boxes on the third shelf down in the back. It took me a couple of seconds to be able to decipher the faint embossing on the container before I realized what I had in my hands and immediately got on the Fragrantica website to make sure I wasn't picking up the one lemon out of the entire collection. Skimming through the reviews, and seeing that most of them held positive promise, I immediately got in the line to check out with my little find. Once I got home, I immediately put one sprits on my neck/chest area and sat back and waited. The sweet, citrusy, floral notes immediately brought to mind to fragrances from last century: Clinique's original Happy ( which I can no longer wear because the new formulation gives me a splitting headache within three minutes) and Shiseido's "We're" which was given to me as a birthday gift while I was living in Japan and have been unable to find reviews of it on this website. 20 minutes after my first spray, all I can say is this is a definitely a spirit lifting thrill of a find and I can't wait until my husband comes home from his road trip to give me his take on it. Again, if Christian LaCroix made a perfume that smelled like a spruce tree car deodorizer, I would probably buy it. Luckily, this is one of my more precious and unique additions to my perfume collection.

joan100

I would describe this scent in a similar vein to YSL ILA or even Baby Doll but this one has more bite and is unique in its own right. It has an enormous sillage and longevity and is therefore the perfect winter fruity floral. The wonderful notes match the colour of the juice. This also could be worn by women of all ages. The bottle/lid combination is also very unique and alluring. Such a big shame they discontinued it! I hope they re release it. I will be buying 20 bottles of it!

Lilian

This is zingy. A burst of peppery citrus, sweetened by peach and orange blossom, pinched by the tartness of hibiscus, blending with the skin as the time goes by into a smooth orange creaminess. Impression: intensely orange flowers. Nasturtium; even a hint of orange or yellow tulips.

Napsu

I has this at early 2000's. I don't really remember the notes or any details. All I remember that this was different, exciting, unusual and personal. Very nice scent as far as I remember... Maybe I have to get a bottle just to refresh the memories...

Vivette

Lovely! Happiness in a bottle. It starts sharp and citrusy, amd I can detect a note of passion flower, though it is not listed. After some hours it meloows into a very delicate creamy scent, and it lingers on. Shame it is no longer available in Buenos Aires...

Njensen1

As much as I truly wanted to love this fragrance, upon fist spritz it was very sharp and green, with a somewhat "cool" if not subdued citrus -- maybe this is the orange blossom. However, an hour later, the perfume has not developed much, remaining very linear. Bazaar has now turned to a calm, tomato-garden-like-smell. It is not unpleasant, but it's not...how I expect I'd like to smell on a woman. Or a man. Or any person. It smells like outside after the rain, like fertile earth, except more subdued. I wanted to be excited by you, Bazar, but alas...you will be lost in a swap or lot giveaway.

Update: several hours later, Bazar has sweetened up slightly, and I am definitely detecting the peach and white musk. It has developed into something almost like a true perfume now...pretty, yet odd, and definitely fitting of its name..Bazar.

LaUna

Love the uniqueness of this fragrance.
Crisp, peppery, citrussy floral. Urban spring in a bottle. Name absolutely suitable.
Reminds me off outdoor shopping in Europe, spring-summer months. The scent is excellent choice for such occasions; it beats the heat, and you smell great after strenuous day in a sun promenading, eating out and spending money:) Great for casual outings.
Half a day, 6ish hours of lastage.

Bazar by Christian Lacroix is a fascinating and unique fragrance. It dares to be different, allowing the wearer to stand out in a crowd. For that reason alone, I am quite smitten.

The first time I tested this fragrance, I immediately pictured carrots. I could have sworn that there was a carrot seed accord in Bazar, because for the first few hours, it was all that I could smell. The carrot-like scent is actually a blend of peach, nasturcia and pepper. Interesting combination I must say.

Some reviewers are calling this fragrance fresh. Although it's perfectly suitable for warm days, I wouldn't call it particularly refreshing or crisp. It's oddly green and warm like a ray of sunshine. Seeming that it also smells a little bit like juicy carrot sticks, I guess you could call it vegetal too. I find it a little similar to Un Jardin Sur Le Nil by Hermes.

Towards the heart and drydown, Bazar becomes quite peppery and spicy on the skin. Although a touch sharp, once your nose becomes accustomed, you'll find the scent growing on you. Honestly, I didn't like Bazar at first, but since my second wearing, I'm beginning to discover many lovable aspects.

I like the name Bazar, I think it explains the bizarre nature of this composition well. I only hope that the male version is just as daring.

The sillage is fairly strong but never overpowering. I guess the same could be said of the longevity. I am highly impressed by this fragrance, and am even more delighted by the fact that I scored a sample of Bazar on Ebay for ninety cents. Talk about a bargain!

Biaburcu

the only perfume that has ever made me say this was created for me...that's me...

Monikashyap

Bazar is a very fresh citrus floral fragrance. It lasts long and it smells like oxygen to me. My no.1 favorite. Loved it the first time i used and and will love it forever. :)

treenhe

i'm with janmcm on this. i liked it's citrusy quality initially...i even smelled a tobacco note when it was just in the bottle. but as i wore it, it seemed to get stronger and stronger until it resembled a really acidic aftershave. it was so masculine on me, not floral at all sadly. i don't do 'green' well and this just confirmed that. on the right person this would be beautifully summery but my skin just exacerbated the peppery-ness. in fact, by the end it reminded me of the original lacoste for men. very pungent. i felt if i'd worn it out the house, it would have entered a room before me. actually, it's made me think i prefer more skin scents....

janmcm

I got Bazar as a present, I liked it at first but I'm not so sure now. I think it's a bit strong for me. It's definitely better as a summer scent. I usually spray it into the air and walk into cloud so that I just catch a light covering, that seems to work better for me.

Aigner_Again

Bazar is an orange-colored peppery champagne! It's joyful, warm and radiant. A halo. I wear it on special occasions like Opera, and/or on a special clothing. Autumn & winter rather than spring & summer. I absolutely love it ♥

9154mf

This was a fresh strong citrusy scent withsome warmth, however there is something about this that doesn't lure me in, it's just got something off about it to my nose. I sprayed it and my husband was sniffing the room and wasn't sure if it was a male or female scent, nor was he sure whether he liked it. No sale.

nyoka

FLORAL FRESh yes,ITS JOYFUL

PricklyAndHot

Juicy and very sour fruity floral fragrance.

Good enough, but I like it only in the beginning of its opening. Then it becomes too strong and sour on me. Most of all I feel the citrus note, the hibiscus note and the nasturtium note in it.

I would wear it if it was a little bit less strong. Its lasting power is great.

LadyJedi

A fresh and playful spring/summer fragrance suitable for women of all ages. When I first sniffed it I was 100% sure there was apple in the notes and then was really surprised that it is predominantly floral. IMO Bazar is similar to the classic Burberry Woman, especially in the base notes. It is easy to wear in the office but I guess it would also be perfect for a romantic date in the evening. And last but not least, very good staying power!

Zocha

This is a beautiful, delicate fresh and floral, long lasting and easy to wear scent. I bought my bottle without testing lured by the reviews here and truly enjoy it for a few months already. Not many sophistication in it but sniffing it evokes a smile and if I feel like something simply nice floral I take Bazaar as my companion on a sunny day. Love it, rally nice.

Eau de moi

I am usually not into floral-green fragrances. But, I decided to give this one a try (I even bought a full bottle without trying it first)!

Even if this is not one of my favorites, I have to admit that this is a pretty interesting fragrance.

Top notes are peppery and quite strong, but it settles to a nice and very zesty scent. I do smell citruses in this one, but citruses with a punch. In fact, I have to say that this smells citruses and pepper on me!

At the drydown, I detect an orange juice smell adding to my peppered citruses. lol I guess I've got a strange chemistry...

I am only amazed by all the flowers in this fragrance when I cannot even detect one of them. Funny, but how interesting as an end result.

Edit: As the fragrance is fading away, I am left with a delicious caramel scent on my skin. Bazar is indeed a strange and surprising fragrance.

belle de sud

Christian Lacroix' Bazar is an instant favorite for spring/summer! Top notes are apricot flower, pepper, nectarine and yuzu; middle capucine, rose and frangipani; base guiac wood, iris and sycomore. A modern and sweet floral green composition, the drydown is splendid after a delightful top passes! I do not detect citrus although it is mentioned in the database; more woody and sweet. Reminds me of YSL 'Y' quite a bit. Love at first sniff!

rieuse

My mom gave me this perfume 4 years ago for my birthday and it became my #1 favorite ever since. It is a very modern radiant floral fragrance. I love this perfume for its long-lasting quality as well. Try it you won't regret! I just love-love-love-love-love it!!! :)

vertigo

Bazar is a floral-fresh fragrance.

It's delicate, joyful, optimistic, friendly, lovable, energetic and dynamic.

For women of all ages to wear on summer days.

The bottle was designed by Federico Restrepo. The box also draws attention - a metal cylinder closed with lids made of orange-red plastic.

Safe and quite universal fragrance, shapely and well-done bottle and original packaging makes Bazar a good idea for a present.
