Definitely braver and more original than most men’s colognes being made today. Got some lipstick, leather, anis, and shaving cream notes to my nose. Not too shabby, but not one I’d buy for myself.

Just blind bought this for my son, and WOW! It’s gorgeous! Upon first spray in the car I coughed, but the dry down is nothing like the first spray. It’s very silky and even dare I say powdery??

It’s a very complex fragrance. It took at least an hour to become what it will be for the remainder of the day. And the hour it took was interesting - very lovely through and through. It finally settled down to exactly what a cologne should be—Very barbershop—Very clean, but still manly at the same time. I imagine the vintage is a bit more masculine in the dry down?

The price cannot be beat!!! My only complaint is sillage. Other than weak sillage, it’s the PERFECT cologne! Any age can pull this off. Don’t make your decision upon the first spray. I literally said no no no after the first spray, and I like HEAVY colognes and perfumes— like vintage French grandma’s makeup and powder puff on me and and Aramis and Safari on a man. Azzaro’s first diary though was shocking to me. But it dries down way more subtle. WAY more subtle.

My boyfriend recently found an old bottle of this in his late dad's closet. It had never been used. I'd been trying to convince him to switch fragrances, and honestly, this one sealed the deal. It's manly, warm, old-fashioned in a good way. I associate it with cleanliness and character. A man's fragrance. Not overly sweet or flowery like more recent ones. It's versatile enough to wear to work or at night. Not overpowering, but it has enough sillage and lasts long enough not to have to re-spray it all the time. I feel like men of all ages could pull this off. An amazing find.

Darokes85

You know… sometimes I get tired of modern fragrances. Im a grown adult and I don’t always want to smell like a sweet dessert, powdery or spring flowers, fruits or bubblegum. Im a man damnit, and Im of the lot that believes there needs to be MORE modern fragrances that reflect the virility and masculinity of some men. There’s still alot of us left out here! Don’t get me wrong, I DO enjoy many of the aforementioned types of modern fragrances but sometimes it’s not the vibe Im looking for. Luckily there’s classic fragrances like Azzaro Pour Homme to fill that void. They’re classics for a reason. Someone said this smells like a fresh haircut and I can’t agree more. This is a classy masculine mature fragrance that won’t be for everyone, but works exceptionally well for those who can embody that classic masculinity energy. (Kind of smells like Abercrombie & Fitch Woods) Im a relatively young guy (30’s +) and I love this fragrance, and I do get compliments when I wear this. I believe anyone of any age can pull this off, but you have to be more on the masculine end of the spectrum to successfully pull it off or else you’ll just smell dated. To each their own but I love this fragrance!

Mystères du Château de Dé

The bottles with the silver band on the TOP end of the cap. Or older than that. This fragrance in the OG form seems to hold up no matter how it was stored. I've found grungy old bottles in flea markets and charity shops - covered in grime from sitting a decade or several, in some old gent's bathroom. Usually, they are still great. The only reason these old bottles are still around is because they were forgotten or abandoned. Every bottle I had in the 80s and 90s I used to the last drop.

Maybe you niche folks know a currently manufactured fragrance that can reproduce such a aroma using old fashioned molecules or new ones. I don't know one.

Accordingly, old Azzaro in 2024 shocks with its vivid composition and powerful time traveling mechanism. Of course, there are adults now who have no memories of anyone wearing this kind of fragrance. If a 20 year old's grandfather still wears it, he's most likely wearing the current one.

Mind you the current formulation is fine, but lacks magic. And I don't favor dropping a fortune to acquire it from "vintage perfume" sellers. Unless you have cash to burn. But do keep your eyes open for a 10 or 20 dollar treasure, those old forgotten bottles. The fragrance in those is like a genie in a bottle. So thrilled to be released and putting on a great display of gratitude.

I just recently got my 5th? bottle now of this fragrance. after spraying it, I am now convinced this is the best fragrance of all time (or atleast one of them). amazing spicy lavender, anise, amber, sandalwood.

JoeyTaylor

Uhh this one is not for me.
To my nose it's very very old fashioned. I'm a 33 year old guy and I enjoy all sorts of fragrances, lots of challenging niche ones too, but not this. Also my girlfriend who's younger than me hated it.
The positives are it has powerful projection and a good price point...

Tested Azzaro Chrome edt the same time. That one I love. I'd chose that over this any time.

Chanelego

Es la mejor fragancia del mundo, me encanta. Ojala no la reformulen mas.

oTEMPE5To

Smells like a fresh haircut. vaguely similar to some of my shave soaps. I dont recall a barbershop ever smelling like this but somehow the scent just smells exactly like a barbershop should. There is something nostalgic about it even though male fragrances are rarely worn in my area. I spent so much money exploring fougeres but the one I needed to pick up was this budget gem. Smells far beyond its price point for me.

Within the domain of scent and sensation, Azzaro Pour Homme envelops one in comfort, swaddling you in the ambiance of the late 70s and early 80s. Its essence, though reformed from its original opulence, resonates with the familiar echoes of bygone eras, much like the fragrances of yore that once adorned the shelves of gentlemen's grooming parlors.

Inhaling its nostalgic bouquet, one is transported to a time when Aramis and Paco Rabanne wafted through the air, mingling with the smoke of cigarettes and the fizz of pull-tab beers (or perhaps bottles of Lowenbrau, St. Pauli Girl or Moussy) at the patio table, where gatherings of acquainted gentlemen and uncles unfolded in the embrace of spring, summer, and fall. The scent opens with an evocative essence reminiscent of Johnson and Johnson baby shampoo and a freshly opened diapers/nappies, a scent of innocence now tinged with the melancholy of reformulated memories.

Within this aromatic mélange, one discerns the citrusy allure of shaving soap mingling with the earthy whispers of a damp forest floor in spring. The notes of sandalwood and leather are pleasantly elevated by lavender, citrus, and anise, this composition transcends mere herbal concoction, weaving a spell that dances harmoniously with the cool embrace of day and the starry canopy of night.

Applied liberqllyw, Azzare Pour Homme evokes the sun-kissed shores of sandy Italy, the enchanting landscapes of Greece, and the aromatic plazas and markets of the Levant, further enriching its narrative with the essence of Mediterranean allure.

Yet, one laments the absence of authentic oakmoss in the contemporary iteration, a casualty of changing times. Nevertheless, the bottle that contains this elixir is a masterpiece in its own right, its exquisite design complemented by the precision of a high-quality spray nozzle.

Azzaro Pour Homme earns a commendable rating of 7.9/10, a testament to its enduring allure amidst the ever-shifting sands of scent and memory.

The post below mine is so accurate! APH is bracing and refreshing in the morning, warm and inviting as the day progresses, and intimate/sexy as you wind down. Great stuff!

AmericanCologneGuy

AZZARO POUR HOMME
This stuff is perfect for the work day, and here’s why:
I’m up early when no one else is stirring.
I shave and shower, get dressed and put on a generous amount of APH (all sides of my neck-front, sides and back). Again, generous! Why not, it’s fairly cheap! Have a few sips of coffee and this stuff is pumping off my warm skin pretty loud and far. The bracing anise and citrus opening is mingling with the smell of hot coffee, adding a level of personal enjoyment to my solitary morning rituals. Get into the car to head to work and it’s filling the car at this point, but calming down during the commute. Upon my arrival, the loup pump has receded into a presence that is gentlemanly and refined. As I’m greeting coworkers on my way to my office, I can still smell its presence, which interestingly mimics exactly the tone of these morning exchanges with coworkers- polite, cheerful, and optimistic.
As I move through the day, the aromas are still making their presence felt in subtle uplifting wafts.
By the time the afternoon comes, the fragrance is again just for me, offering a quiet sense of assurance as the workday wraps up.
Then after the gym and shower, I’m ready for either another go w/ APH or maybe something else in my wardrobe.
But Azzaro Pour Homme has done its job and is a perfect accompaniment to the work day.

Old is gold, A perfume that captivates you in the world of the 70's, an angry masculine perfume at first and then a soapy perfume in the middle with a strange acidic touch that reminds me of the smell of cologne in luxury hotels. With this price is perfect someway:)

This is the result of the recruitment of lavender with citrus fruits and musk with amber at the base.

Ignore all the hyperbole here about how this has been "ruined" by reformulation. Is the reformulation different than older versions? Yes, but not to the extent that it no longer smells like Azzaro Pour Homme. Here's what I smell as the differences: 1. the new version has a little more anise, 2. the new version has a little more lavender, and 3. the new version doesn't project as strongly as it used to (though it still lasts a good 10 to 12 hours on my skin). Other than that, Azzaro Pour Homme is still Azzaro Pour Homme, and is still the best aromatic fougere ever made, if not the best men's fragrance ever made. Fear not in buying the current version.

I wish people would stop calling this a "barbershop fragrance". What barber on earth uses Azzaro on customers??

DesignersOnly93

If you're wondering what this actually smells like, a more accurate description of what you should expect to smell:

A slightly less floral Pantene shampoo.

This does not smell like shaving cream. If you want Gillette shaving "foam", try:

Master piece. I really love this fragrance 💋💋

SpendThrift74

This was worth the money I spent...
But only because I found a 100 ml bottle of the current formulation for $7.49 at Ross Dress for Less.

First, what does this smell like. In the very opening, the fragrance is mostly sharp lemon and star anise. It is really bracing at first. Personally, I kind of like it at this stage, but I wouldn't want it to stay there as it would be kind of offensive to others, probably.
VERY quickly (on my skin, anyway) the lemon/anise bite calms down and lets the darker spices, leather, and amber take the field. If you want to imagine what it smells like at the middle stage, think of CK Obsession for men and take out the cinnamon and vanilla notes.
Within about a half an hour, the fragrance totally retreats to a weak skin scent. It holds onto the skin for a few hours, but you have to get your nose right up to the skin to smell it at all.

Is it "old school"? Certainly. Is it different than the current trends? Yes. Is is pleasant? After the first few minutes, yes. Is it noticeable to those around you. Sadly, in this formulation, no-- not after the first half-hour or less. Will I wear it? I suppose. Was it worth the $7.50 I paid for it. Barely. I'm sure the vintage formulation was a much better representation of the DNA. As it is currently, just pass this one by.

Kamulop

A blind buy that I originally disliked, which turned into my signature scent that I wear almost daily.

Lets start by saying, I'm not an old man. At 26, I would say I'm probably on the younger side when it comes to using this particular fragrance. I have read quite a lot of comments like "This smells like old man", "This is way outdated", "This is only for older and very masculine men". I really don't agree with those statements. I live in a place where fragrances like this have definitely never been popular. Not now, and not decades ago either. When I first smelled this, this was a completely new scent profile, and I couldn't really remember smelling any fragrance even close to this.

On that first impression though, my opinion of the scent wasn't so positive. I really found the anis note in the opening quite unpleasant. I don't really know why I felt that way now. I now actually find even the opening anis quite pleasant, but still the initial opening is my least favourite part of this scent. The anis quickly fades away, and gives space for soapy, clean freshness with just a right amount of sweet honey, without making it too sweet. The further drydown to me, is most easily described as clean and soapy, a bit mossy. Masculine and professional, but not dominant or crude by any means. All in all, I like the opening, I absolutely love the drydown.

As I said, during the last few months, on most days I have been using this as my daily scent. It suits all occasions, all conditions very well in my opinion. Smells great on skin and just as good on clothes. I personally spray two sprays on my neck, and two sprays on my shirt. If there is one downside I can say about APH, it's the performance. It isn't bad by any means, but not very good either. I'd say I get around six hours with this until it's pretty much vanished. Projection also is quite low, but to me that is a good thing, so I don't need to worry about annoying any scent sensitive people around.

My 50ml is soon going to run out, and I'm definitely needing another bottle. Will probably get a big 200ml one next. I don't see myself getting bored with this in a long while. I'm also really interested to try flankers this has, but unfortunately they seem to be hard to get or overly expensive where I live. I'm glad this OG APH is very affordable though. Wouldn't want to live without it.

ScentMan64

I purchased a bottle of this in the mid 1980s and was expecting great things as Loris Azzarro was a much respected designer of the times, he made wonderful clothing for men and women, Sophia Loren, Brigitte Bardot and Tina Turner being some of his clients. However this, for me, was way too overpowering and I think I gave it away to an Arab boyfriend at the time who loved it...

Lovaloo

I have procured a 1.7 ml, and I will now attempt to describe it.

Starts off with dry citruses, aromatics, spice notes. Liquorice-y spice, coriander, caraway, and herbs like basil, clary sage, rosemary. The lavender here is more of an abstract impression, not photo-realistic like Jicky or Caron Homme. Regardless, it smells fantastic. As it dries it gets even better. The heart phase is woody, earthy, green. I'm sure vintage bottles have superior textural nuance from the authentic santal and moss, but this modern bottle still smells great. It's like being in a forest full of conifers. The leather note is not overly phenolic or sharp like modern leathers, it's a lot smoother. I think the funky, salty animalic amber/musk base smells incredible.

Uber masculine barbershop fougere. For some reason I can only conjure images of the Brawny man wearing it. It reminds me of the others I've tested from the 80s, like Lauder for Men, Tuscany, Rive Gauche Homme, 1881, Boucheron Homme, Jazz, etc. They all smell great, but this one is my favorite.

So far Azzaro Homme, Grey Flannel, and Aramis are my favorite masculines. I hail from Minnesnowta, so I experience deep nostalgia when I smell like a coniferous forest. The perfume marketing people don't push pine tree fumes at women, so paper towel mascot colognes are the only logical step forward.

ttsib

This is to my eyes the typical barber show fragrance of the old times. Super strong opening but sadly it doesn't really least much and I have to spray it several times during the day when I wear it. Despite being an old style fragrance, I think it will always find a spot in my rotation albeit not on a regular basis because some days I just want to feel that barbershop vibe.

Kuquii1974

Got a 10ml sample from Ebay. Overpowering opening, disappointing follow on, fades into nothing. Its either a fake formulation or just plain crap. 0/10 for what I received 👎

Travis_Bickle

Azzaro Pour Homme. What else can be said about this? It's been around for decades for a reason. It smells fantastic. Lemony, leathery, mossy goodness. Performance in the newest batches is somewhat lacking but this can be found at very low prices on discounters. Some may dissuade you by saying that this is an "old man" scent, I call it classic men's perfumery.

tpsvk7

I fell in love with APH when I found a 7ml splash bottle hidden away in my father's small collection. It was my introduction to barbershop-style fougere's and although initially skeptical on first sniff, I could not stop smelling it after 10 minutes. I would later find out the splash bottle was from 1996 and was intrigued how a more recent formulation smelled, so I purchased a 100ml refillable tester that was produced in late 2020.

What I loved about the original splash bottle was the clean yet strong, masculine vibe it gave off. The smooth spices rounded off well-balanced aromatic and herbaceous notes that were clearly defined and present. The new formulation, to me at least, does not have the same clean yet strong balance of the 1996 version, although they become more similar on the dry down.

Perfomance on both isn't remarkable, but the recent formulation seems to diminish faster than the 1996 version.

The present offering is still worth trying if you're a lover of this type of scent profile, but I can vouch for the original being a different beast and if you have a chance to get your hands on an older bottle, do yourself the favour.

emiliomontalvoo

I like tihs one, I use it only because my dad does, It's a very very woody and aromatic scent which is great for the office, even the school, I don't think it performs that good maybe 5-6 hours of longevity and 1-2 hours projecting nicely, then goes to the skin level. Don't overspray because it is headache inducing. Also I wouldn't recommend this in summer or really hot weather but it's great while you buy this below 35 dollars

pusha65

Straight up shaving cream, barely lasts on me
if i wasnt so young i would wear this

FragrantJosh

Azzaro Pour Homme is one of, if not the greatest barbershop men's fragrance around! As soon as i spray this one it's a big blast of gorgeous powdery iris and a warm powdery spicy star anise which is lovely! I get a big green fresh and clean soapiness ; juniper berries that hang around these top notes. With the juniper the cardamom joins in and is beautiful! The base has this nice deep oakmoss and warm leather which both are joined nicely by a smooth amber. I don't get much musk in this fragrance which is listed and I'm not sure whether the tonka Is a green grassy type or sweet tobacco. The green freshness to my nose has a very slight reminiscence to Sung Homme but apart from that they are 2 completely different fragrances. I sprayed this in Madeira alongside many different fragrances and I thought this was just strong and harsh without much to like but I was very wrong. Owning this fragrance, seeing the notes listed and wearing it...(my own bottle) I got so many beautiful high quality notes come to my nose! Azzaro pour homme is definitely a masterpiece from the 70s, but it's still incredibly relevant today! I sprayed this and got a good 2 hours of strong projection until it calmed down so I got a good 7 hours from this fragrance

Azzaro Pour Homme
This is definitely old-school but still relevant. It’s a clean, masculine, always-appropriate choice for any situation. It’s fresh and invigorating when you first put it on (which is why the older “splash” version is great), and it quickly settles in to a subtle spicy ambery-warm gentlemanly scent that gives you soft wafts throughout the day. Leaves a subtle trail, and when people come close, they’ll notice it.
Great addition to any collection.

Kmac1122

This is one of my most favorite old school scents, I have no nostalgia to Azzaro - just picked it up as a blind buy and love the fougere vibes this brings. It last all day on my skin and is really unique to anything else out there I have smelled. Its a bit herbal, woody, and has a leathery old school scent.

IL CAPOREGIME DELLA FAMIGLIA PROFUMI AZZARO

Vincent "Vinny" Azaro, born in 1935 to Sicilian parents, is a New York City mobster and recognized captain in the Bonanno crime family. Since the late 1970s, following the murder of Bonanno boss Carmine Galante, Azaro became the caporegime in the Queens faction of the Bonanno family. During the 1990s, Azaro allegedly operated a multi-million-dollar stolen car ring and oversaw the hijacking of cargo at John F. Kennedy International Airport.

"Azzaro pour Homme", released in 1978, is a well-known Parisian fragrance and recognized mobster in the Loris Azzaro perfumes family. Azzaro pour Homme has been the major capo regime in the Parfums Azzaro family since the late 1970s. He already destroyed many women's hearts. Loris Azzaro's couture collections were characterized by extreme seductiveness, which would go on to inspire his first men's fragrance. The alleged inventor of ultra-feminine fashion creations aimed at creating a weapon of seduction. That's how and why this iconic seductive men's fragrance came to life in 1978. This fragrance is maybe the first objectively alluring perfume made exclusively for men.
Loris Azzaro, born in February of 1933 to Sicilian parents, died in November 2003 in Paris and is recognized as a great couturier and Franco-Italian perfumer.
After the original EDT, the Azzaro pour Homme family of fragrances started growing with "Azzaro pour Homme Intense" in 1992, "Azzaro pour Homme Silver Black / Azzaro pour Homme Onyx" in 2005, "Azzaro pour Homme Elixir" in 2009, "Azzaro pour Homme L'Eau" in 2011, "Azzaro pour Homme Night Time" in 2012, "Azzaro pour Homme Summer 2013", "Azzaro pour Homme Summer 2014", "Azzaro pour Homme Summer 2015", "Azzaro pour Homme Intense" in 2015, "Azzaro pour Homme Freelight Edition" in 2016, the fantastic "Azzaro pour Homme Edition Noire" in 2017, and finally "Azzaro pour Homme Hot Pepper", "Azzaro pour Homme Naughty Leather" and the also fantastic "Azzaro pour Homme Amber Fever" in 2018. In the past couple of years, this designer family has shown its versatility, quality and market acceptance, and it all began in 1987.
Lucky me... I have or had all the flankers released till 2017, and can't wait to get my hands on the three 2018 perfumes (actually I already purchased Naughty Leather and the amazing Amber Fever).
About what you get inside the flask...

At first glance, Azzaro Pour Homme's octagonal glass bottle and amber colour assert its masculinity all the way.
This Eau de Toilette is a fantastic spicy-woody fougère fragrance, very old school and quite a demonstration of the masculine gender it addresses with every one of its one hundred millilitres.
The "Azzaro scent" is unique and no one confounds it with any other perfume scent. Its olfactory footprint is mainly defined by three ingredients (notes) that mark the essence territory and boundaries. They are the key factors of its uniqueness.
1 - Anise - This ingredient creates a blunt warm-cold contrast in addition to texture, depth and solarity. It originated in the dried fruit of the badian plant, which is harvested in the Far East (China, Vietnam, Japan and the Philippines). At least twenty-five kilos of dried star anise are required to produce one kilo of essential oil through distillation. It is a precious extract with very sweet, refreshing and spicy liquorice notes. It resembles anise but is more pungent.
2 - Lavender - This invigorating flower - small violet flowers - radiates a highly seductive, very clean and quite manly aroma. In Provence, around a hundred producers harvest lavender. They then dry it and extract its essence through rapid distillation: 200 kilos of flowers are required to produce one kilo of essential oil. Soft, floral and slightly fruity, lavender has a rounded aroma of amber with a hint of coumarin.
3 - Vetiver - At once dry and moist, fresh and warm, woody and intense, this root exudes a unique sensuality with its bitter chocolate and smoky facets scent. It is grown in Java, Madagascar and Brazil (among others), yet Haiti's production is preferred by perfumers for its fragrant quality. One kilo of essential oil requires 200 kilos of uprooted, dried and cleaned raw material. The results: An extract with characteristic dry woody notes with earthy, smoky and nutty tones.

What you will not forget...
After an "Azzaro pour Homme experience" you will remember how aromatic the fragrance is, with both fresh and soft spices blended with woody, floral and earthy accords. You will enjoy it for more than eight or nine hours and people within four or five feet will notice you for sure.
As with everything concerning our terrestrial life, let's try to measure Azzaro pour Homme:
___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___
- Opening: 9.5 (really pleasant unique fougére opening)
- DryDown: 8.5 (very good- mossy, leathery and sweet)
- Longevity: 9.0 (up to 9 hours on my skin, with 3 sprays)
- Sillage: 7.5 (sillage peaks up to 5 feet; It projects heavily almost for 2.0 hours)
- Versatility: 8.0 (quite versatile, expressing itself better in Spring and Fall, at ease on Winter days and Summer nights)
- Usability: .8.5 (it's a "use it almost anywhere" fragrance, but avoid gym, seaside or any kind of sweating activities)
- Compliments: 8.5 (This scent competes with other compliment magnets. You will smell elegant, clean, fresh, sexy and even cute; but... yes... It has been around for some time and its DNA is easily recognisable)
- Uniqueness: 9.5 (It has got a unique DNA that you will not mistake with other perfumes; You may consider just its flankers as similar scents, and just maybe some vibes shared with the also magnific Aramis Tuscany)
- Quality: 9.0 (High-quality ingredients; gorgeous heavy glass bottle; great spray)
- Presentation: 8.5 (beautiful, sober, masculine flask with visible good taste details; questionable cap)
- Price: 9.0 (€ 20.0 for a 100 ml tester flask, € 25.00 for a non-tester flask)
___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___
- Average: 8.69/10.00
between 7 and 8 => above average;
between 8 and 9 => recommended;
equal or bigger than 9 => don't miss it;

My opinion on "Azzaro pour Homme":
Take my advice and lose yourself in a haze of this crisp and complex men’s fragrance. This intoxicating Eau de Toilette has a wide assortment of refreshing notes that combine into one luxurious, robust manly scent that appeals to anyone near you.

Is blind buy worthy? No! ... as I have written, this scent is... intoxicating. Try it first! And, if you do buy it, do remember that you receive a piece of French perfumery history besides the fragrance itself. I just love this scent!

Smells dated and kinda pissy and toilety. Not bad but not or me. I expected more.

JamesPawn

smells great just doesn't last very long . you can tell the difference between a bottle thats about 20 and one that's 5 years old .both don't last long but the differences are the newer ones are lighter and bit more harsh with less woody notes and more aromatic . alot of old colognes from the 80's 90's early 2000's the woody notes are dialed back .

Bingo30

I’m 23 and I can wear this easily.

This smells like my dad - but in a very good way. Like I’m embodying the spirit of the men who came before me.

To my taste this is old fashioned; don’t be mistaken, that is a compliment.

Distinguished, mature, manly, spicy (very spicy), clean. Absolutely any season.

fernandokiozo

Simply the best. If it was launched yesterday as a niche fragrance people would pay U$500,00 and it would be considered the best fragrance of the year. But luckly it’s very cheap, the best and cheap

Oh boy....what's happened here? I LOVED ApH..loved, loved loved it...strong masculine anise based fragrance that screamed...clean barbershop fragrance. Purchased a gift for the missus online and decided to purchase a 1.7oz spray bottle of Azzaro (which I hadn't used for quite some time)...what a major disappointment! Weak is not a strong enough word to describe this disaster. Four sprays to chest and neck...lasted no more than 10 minutes if that. Well, let's give it another try...next day, same application with an additional 2 sprays to each wrist...same performance...Guess the good folks at Azzaro found a way to save money and cut corners at the expense of what was a great fragrance. Aramis Tuscany, here I come....

Fortyfree

A spicy and aromatic fragrance.

It's soapy with spiky notes of cloves and pine.

Has a grassy aroma. Tobacco, honey and oakmoss are perceptible too.

Some leather and vetiver in the drydown.

Overall has a dark, forest-like profile.

A classic fougere, a bit like an amalgamation of; Cerutti 1881, Ralph Lauren Polo, Aramis, and Drakkar Noir.

Would suit a more mature man 30+. Good year round.

Would be great for someone who likes classic, mens fragrances.

Performance is good; projection adequate and lasts as a skin scent for quite a while.

I like it.

Upon reading reviews and watching a couple of online reviewers, I was expecting something super sweet, powdery and on the verge of Salvador Dali Pour Homme. They both share anise in it's notes and I was afraid to make a blind buy. Another comparison Azzaro Pour Homme gets is to Old Spice or grandpa smell. I don't really see much of a resemblance either. The opening reminds me a lot of Aramis Devin, the mid like a 90's masculine fragrance that I can't really describe, but soapy in a way. The base notes are smoky and divine. If you're a fan of fougeres, this one is excellent. I could see this being worn all year round, but primarily during the winter/fall. I'd say that if this was released today it would fall under a niche category.

Scentologist11

HAVE YOU EVER ASKED YOURSELF THAT?

Today, all of us here are proud owners of larger or smaller perfume collections.
Some people like modern fragrance profiles, others vintage, others everything in general...
Some also collect wristwatches, for example, and rarely anyone has just one or two...

But the rule of less is more plays the main role here!
With such a collection, sometimes I feel like a little bitch! XD

If you look at your father or grandfather...They wore signature perfume...Even if they had two or three in their collection - most of them were recognizable by one beauty!
It's the same with watches-Whether they wore their famous Seiko or Rolex or Omega or Citizen...But they wore it until the end-even when there was a major malfunction, they took it to the watchmaker!

And this beauty Azzaro PH is deservedly one of the signature scents! It has been worn by many and it is still somehow in the full sense of a real man's profile!

When I just smell the bottle, it immediately brings me back to the times when things were somehow different and simpler - and when I apply it on myself, the whole day is even better! Truly a masterpiece in the full sense of the word!

But I still wonder, which perfume will one day be remembered by our loved ones, friends and surroundings - if we wear a different perfume every day??

Less is more! :)

THIS IS A TRUE CLASSIC, CLASSIC BUT NOT OLD, CLASSIC NOT OUTDATED, THE BEST AROMATIC FOUGERE EVER MADE.

THE AROMATIC FOUGERE TO END ALL THE AROMATIC FOUGERE. POINT AND CASE.

Messidor

This old juice is nostalgia-inducing.
Initial lavender, basil, not-spicy-but-mellow anise and other notes immediately remind me of my childhood back in the 90s. No, they are not the scents I could always have around me, but together they somehow connect to those remote memories. Herbal, spicy, a bit fresh/cool, slightly woody and powdery. The iris truly nails it! During the drydown, aromatic notes fast fade and linger like a shadow. Slowly fading woodier notes are airy with a touch of sweetness. It stops projecting, like the memories subsiding into vagueness. It's not medicinal as some suggested, neither is it bitter. It's complex yet light.

Longevity: 2h on my skin.
Projection: moderate.
Masculine.
Season: Shines in late spring and summer. Not for winter as it'll become thin and bland.
Caveat: don't use in ill-ventilated space. One won't be able to appreciate its airiness to the best.

Palosanto

For me, ApH is pure genius.

Why? Because it is full of notes and, at the same time, all of them blend seamlessly to create an aroma that is extremely original, personal, leathery, spicy, and manly. I would say that it is very refined.

I cannot say that this is a fragrance that smells like any other. Not even Cuba Black, which has some similarities but is simpler, more woody and anisic, can be confused with this. Yes, it is a traditional "type" of fragrance but it is highly distinctive. Even the bottle, in its simple and tasteful shape and colour -which somehow "matches" with the aroma-, is unmistakable.

I also find ApH completely atemporal: never dated, it could have been created at any time.

It lasts long and it is always noticeable but it is never loud, extremely diffusive or invasive. It blends with me like a second skin.

One of the truly GREAT men's fragrances.

Best,

Drunk and high at the airport, I had the opportunity to test Azzaro Homme at a duty-free, alongside several other cult classic masculines; Eau Sauvage, Chanel Pour Monsieur, Paco Rabanne Homme, and Armani Acqua di Gio.

Azzaro Homme was the one I decided to spray all over my person and wear on the plane. What an incredible experience, I have no regrets. It is a stunning scent, in terms of what it smells like, goodness, I can't describe it at present. I'm definitely getting a bottle of this one in the near future.

Zimmermann

Una fragancia muy masculina, medianamente picante y con tonalidades de madera. No es muy llamativo, es mas bien una olor sofisticado y más enfocado en un público mayor.

Hifza

I was in a queue at bank, the guy standing in front of me was smelling so good that I had to ask him his scent, he told me he was wearing The Ruler and told me it's the dupe of Azzaro Pour Homme, and he reviewed the dupe version is the best and has much better performance than the original. I can see people here are asking about a substitute, I can vouch for The Ruler and can recommend it to every men even I don't mind using this male scent as it smells so heavenly!

nisarsarah9

My dad loves this scent and I wanted to gift him this for his anniversary. However, it gives us all a headache and is too over powering. My father is open to trying new scents so if anyone knows a similar scent of this or a dupe, kindly let me know so that I can buy it in time to gift him. Thankss!

Moe Itani

The Scent of a gentleman, I can remember this scent since I was around 5 years old, probably one of my uncles wore it since I only smelled it in my grandmother's house during family meetings.

The opening is so normal wait a little bit for it then the scent of masculinity starts to vibrate off your body.

richmilton

This masterpiece was released at a time when masculinity was an honor and adored by woman at the time. This scent only works for those few men that still exist and the woman that appreciate the scent. Today scents that are feminine, sweet, floral and makeup smelling are being worn by men. Azzaro Pour Homme is the polar opposite. It's Uber masculine, barbershop green and unapologetic. I have 2 backup bottles to give to me sons when they are old enough to shave. "Sons, this is the smell of a confident man that takes care of his family, ignores social pressures, and does his own thing. It's called Azzaro Pour Homme."

Deniz S

I did a blind buy and got this. Tried for several days to like it but it just didn't work on me.
Then I gave it to my dad and it smells great on him.

korleis

Gentleman bottled. Classic. Not for club kids.

Odor Aeternitatis

I love the fragrance and its history, I got this one along with some other famous classic fragrances to learn more about the fragrances through history. This one is from the 1970s. Aromatic fougere fragrance in its most complete form. If you want to be familiar with this category of masculine perfumes, try this one. It's complex with many notes and layers.
Not for modern days

jkeating7

I absolutely adore this fragrance. It is one that I constantly come back to smelling in my collection, and it is so ridiculously sophisticated that I always enjoy it.

This is very old school, but old school done right. I would pour Aramis down the drain, because that smells like a grandpa's sweaty balls- and Aramis is also more expensive. However, they are comparable and in the same family, in case you are familiar with that classic men's fragrance. This fragrance also gives Drakkar Noir a run for its money (in terms of old-school reputation), and I love them almost equally- but this one gets the edge for me. Listen, I'm a 20 y/o male, and smelling Azzaro Pour Homme for the first time was a shock. I wasn't fully into it. And it wasn't like anything that I had smelled before.

But it grew on me, and it is now in my top 8 favorite fragrances. I can't wait for the summer to be over so that I can comfortably wear this outdoors. The only thing that I don't like about it is its performance.. it's very hard to smell it when it's on you. I can't tell if that is caused by noseblindness; but this is certainly not a fragrance that you want to overspray.

Thomaso7

a elegant masculine scent, with a bit of playfulness.

Michel Silencieux

What a wonderful fragrance. Old school but still relevant, masculine, complex, versatile in cooler seasons and very affordable. I love it!

Upon first spritz, your nose is smacked with an aromatic tsunami of star anise, lavender, and lemon. I felt immediately teleported to a Brooklyn discotheque with young John Travolta doing his hustle moves.

The initial citrusy blast mellows down to reveal an inviting heart of sandalwood, patchouli, and vetiver. It's like walking into a classical barber shop thats located in the middle of an earthy forest.

Finally, it settles into a musky, amber, and oakmoss base that's a bit like being wrapped in a velvet smoking jacket. This is the stuff James Bond would wear if he was also a lumberjack. It's undeniably masculine.

Azzaro Pour Homme is the fragrance equivalent of a black & white movie - timeless, classy, but not everyone's cup of tea. It's a scent that says, "Yes, I'm sophisticated, but I also know how to swing an axe."

If you've ever wanted to smell like you're capable of building a log cabin with one hand while sipping a martini with the other, this is the fragrance for you.

darrylstrawberry

I'm 29 and grew up in the 2000s, and I really enjoy this despite having missed its heyday. Fougere fragrances aren't on trend at the moment, so maybe in that regard, it is dated. Me, I enjoy wearing fragrances that feel very clean, masculine and grown-up. I struggle to find this in the current crop of designer fragrances, as the trend is towards either sweet unisex gourmands or blue fragrances that I feel are better suited for teenagers. I don't know whether this is still mass-pleasing today, but I suspect that it probably is... and quite distinctive too.

This smells like 1978...wood walls & brown furniture everywhere 😮💨
😅
There's nothing soft about this, it burns my eyes 👀🔥
This stuff smells like it was made with dollar store ingredients-
This maintenance guy in my building used to wear this-
This scent would linger in my apartment & annoy the hell outta for me for a few hrs everytime he came to fix something 😮💨

hhaddouti

Very deep and rich fragrance. Azzaro pour home was my first Fougere. It's a great introduction to the Citrus/Lavanda/Oakmoss pyramid. I love it because it prepared me for the nuances of the Fougeres. Unfortunately most of the people perceive it as outdated.

Thomaso7

Simply the best. This scent is the perfect blend of shampooed shower clean and lavender muskyness.. Another scent from the era is Paco Rabanne, which is also worth having.

darrylstrawberry

Just found my signature scent. As others have said, the opening isn't great, at least on the current formulation. That's ok... because after 20 minutes it's spectacular. A fresh, spicy, shaving cream fougere sat on top of an anamalic, musky base. The way this reacts with warm skin is intoxicating. For me, this blows away any designer fragrance on the market right now and I can't wait to discover more scents from this era.

TheRefinedGentleman

Wasn't impressed at first, but it grew on me the star anise note makes this fragrance unique, it is a classy barbershop fragrance with depth and a seductive charm, this fragrance isn't revolutionary but it's affordable (45$ for 200ml) and really worth it, it's not a daily driver but good to have around for fall or even winter

8/10 (factoring in what you get)

ScentNSent

So I bought a small bottle of this maybe 1.5 years ago, sprayed it on and immediately didn’t like it. Fast forward a year and a half later and I really like this scent.

It’s not something I’d use every single day, and something I’d probably use once in a while on a night out on certain occasions. But the dry down is amazing in this it gets less harsh and definitely has that old school barbershop kinda vibe to it. My dad used to wear something similar to this (I think it was drakkar noir) not exactly the same scent but similar in some ways so it’s more of a nostalgic scent for me.

zebra782

This has one of the greatest dry downs of all time...!!!

Psalzarulo

This is a really interesting, unique, and unexpected scent. Super spicy and woody accented by strong, powdery lavender and iris florals. It's extremely masculine and leans much older/old School. The mid notes are smoke and leathery. This is fresh, musky barbershop mixed with smoky cigar lounge.

This scent really stands out to me after smelling on myself for the first time. I don't love it but I like it more than I expected and I can't stop smelling it to get that hint of cigar note. It reminds me of TF Ombre Leather, where the notes waft off of your skin instead of all projecting at the same level.

8/10 for me and it's going on my wish list. I'm not exactly sure when I would wear it tbh because it's a little loud of a scent for me but im sure I would find a way.

Delrio37

This is an ultra masculine, old school fougere at a very affordable price. I found the leather note overpowering, and it rendered this scent unsuitable for most situations.

Fjkennett

I kind of like this scent and kind of hate it. The Amber / incense note is way too sickening. I do like the general scent profile but the sweet syrupy sickening scent makes me not want to wear it.

Scentologist11

Its very Simple with this - If he is too strong for you - you are obviously too weak for him…

True Adult fragnance…

A typical male clean, oaky, leathery, aromatic scent...

Old School vibe definitely-Also a new formulation, if you apply it enough it works very good!

Women like it...we are talking about a grown up real woman..Not a teenager from 19 years old who also likes children's profiles...

Just apply it, go out - you will smell 100% unique with a refined character unlike the others in society....

It smells like the times when men's perfumes were men and not unisex sweet waters for both sexes!

Hoofhearted74

Such a clean, fresh and masculine smell! One of the only barbershop fragrances my wife likes. Lasts pretty good for such a great price. The opening is great, but the dry down is superb. I plan on getting my nose on Azzaro Pour Homme Intense very soon.

BobFrag100

Where do I start? This stuff is amazing. Definitely a citrus forward all season fragrance. The top notes are sharp in a good way. The muskiness sets in soon after.
If you're looking for one frag to do it all, look no further.

#13 in my "Tour de fragrance"

This went into my "Even if I'm broke and can't afford to buy more fragrances I still wouldn't wear this" bin. The opening was okay, it didn't improve as it dried, and two hours later nothing but a slight woody scent. So it's not something I'd wear on a date or even to the office. It does kinda remind me of the mildly woody hotel soaps I like well enough to put in my suitcase when I leave. But this wouldn't be a repeat buy for me. Your grandad might like it.

My second review of Azzaro Pour Homme:
I've tried many barbershop fragrances over the past few years, and none have compare to Azzaro Pour Homme. I've tried old school barbershop fragrances, modern ones, cheap ones, pricey ones, designer, niche, drugstore, good, bad, and so-so; yet, despite all of the barbershop fragrances I've smelled, even the great ones, I still think: "Meh, it ain't Azzaro Pour Homme..."
I am a total blue fragrance loving, Sauvage wearing, trendy and mass appealing fragrance type of guy; and I will never get rid of this one.

caffeinatedpony

It's so fresh and green, shit makes me wanna frolic in the fields and sing songs about nature

ChezdeParfums

My grandfather wore this. I wasn’t aware of it at the time, but a few years ago I saw a bottle in a store and recognized it. At first whiff I was transported to my childhood. Rich in spices, citruses, leather, and moss; Pour Homme adds a layer of confidence to for any occasion.

northtexasguitarlicks

Smells like the movie Caddyshack 👍

The smelly scientist

Very green, very classic. Barber shop clean. Literally works for every situation if you want it to. Only problem is the longevity, it is weak performance wise

APULIAN

This is another pillar of man's parfumery. I think many people knows it, so we dont need to talk about notes but if the vintage is better than the current. I have two old versions and i tried many times the current, so my thoughts are:

Vintage version (round cap, no bar code). Blended in a better way, deeper, richer than the current. Slightely animalic, more oakmossy but more "dated" smelling. My vote-9

Semi vintage version (exagonal cap, silver sticker on the bottle, late 90-early 00). Almost identical to the vintage for smell and performance. 9-

Current- i think the current smells good but it hasnt the same richness of the older versions. It has something in less, less well made, less depth..but the current is more modern and is a good fragrance in itself and still has the original DNA. The performance is almost the same, a bit inferior in terms of longevity and projection but not so much. 8

Do you need the vintage? If you are a fan of old barbershop fragrances yes, especially if you love azzaro pour homme. If you like the scent but it's not something you would wear often the current is good. It's not a bad reformulation but the vintage smells more well-blended.

Alternative - aramis Tuscany uomo

Thomaso7

likely the best fragrance ever made. (my opinion)

garantis28

Blue fragrances - what are those? Azzaro Pour Homme is not a blue fragrance. Blue fragrances smell great - there are many in my collection. They're unoffensive and approachable. They all blend in with each other. Sauvage, YSL Y, Bleu de Chanel. Mercedes, Audi, BMW. Drive through any business district of any city and you'll see those three cars. Walk into any building and you'll smell those three scents. All blending in to the same generic expectations and experiences of the modern day world.

Azzaro Pour Homme snaps you out of that mold faster than you can blink. 1978 is back and it brought it's genius and bold attitude towards fragrances with it. It doesn't care that someone in the office might not like the scent. YOU like the scent. You love the prominent lavender and anise opening. Patchouli and vetiver in the middle. The machismo animalic musk and resinous amber when dried down. It's not going to please everyone, but it makes a statement: I know what I like, and I'm sure of it.

This fragrance isn't soft or ubiquitously pleasing. It isn't different just to be different either - it is well composed and projects that way. It's made by three men who wanted men to smell like men and for men to not have to apologize for it. If you like fougere or think you like fougere, you're probably going to enjoy this one. In a world full of blue fragrances, be bold, be different, be Azzaro Pour Homme.

Stevie-boy1965

Love it, will always have it in my wardrobe, however I do wish it was it was more intense

2022 bottle.

Nice frag, the opening is good, the dry down is excellent, warm with this touch of something green (anise maybe ?).

Not my favorite, but a good one.

Nice barbershop cologne, nothing less- nothing more. It must have been a ground breaking release when it was first introduced. Today, it feels nostalgic and a little dated. However, still gets the job done if you enjoy aromatic fougere genre. It definetely evokes some memories, could be good or bad depending on where you are coming from.

Zarslanian

This was my signature scent for almost a decade, before I was a fraghead. Because of this, I'll always love it and have many memories with it. Performance is just ok, but that doesn't really bother me. A beautiful masculine, barbershop scent. It's hilarious this was my signature scent from the age of about 18-27 (in the 2010s primarily). But what's wrong with that? It may be more of a mature scent, but I rocked this and it was fantastic for me! My only regret is that I really didn't spray much on back then. I only did 2 sprays. Now that I'm a big fragrance fan, and have dozens of bottles, I am not afraid to spray much more. Now I'd give this 7-10 sprays per wearing.

givenchyy

Very masculine opening, fruity, woody, but very clean and calm. Perfect balance of sweetnes and woodyness. Soapy. Reminds me Lagerfeld Classic little.
I fell in love immediately with this, it smells really mature, manly, very old school, calm. Barbershop in 70s. It fits for spring. Frangrance is excellent balanced, opening is very masculine after is getting gently spicy, floral. citrus, woody. I really like this

AmericanCologneGuy

OLD-SCHOOL GREATNESS!
This is a really great classic masculine old-school fragrance that’s still relevant. Not old-man vibe, but timeless and self-assured. Not a room filler, but definitely has a presence about it for the first two hours before receding a bit. I get whiffs of it for a good 4 hours before it becomes really close and faint.
When I put this on in the morning, I feel like I can conquer the world!
Also, this is a great one to enjoy at night with a bourbon in a nice heavy glass.
HIGHLY recommend this!

JamesPawn

how can you have any pudding if you dont eat your meat
azzaro smells good very uplifting scent but dont expect good performance out of the newer bottles . is there any reason to buy Tuscany Per Uomo Aramis which is kinda high priced if it smells just like this..?

October 2021 bottle silver sprayer tested , starts off strong 6 sprays nearly undetectable in A hour already a skin scent . all so tested around 2014 bottle which had more flatter top notes bad performance issues again though even worst then the 2021 bottle . need to go back further in the years to find a bottle with strength .

8 out of 10 for the scent
2 out of 10 for performance at least to the 2014 and newer

Abrewer

I don’t get why people like this one. I’ve given it several chances and to me it smells like weak hotel bar soap. I’m simply not a fan. I’m gonna try letting it age and give it another go in different weather but I don’t see myself changing my mind.

jcarn90

This is what a man should smell like. Period.

This is the template from which thousands of modern masculine fragrances sprung. This is bottled confidence, ease, bracing cleanliness, with just enough character to transcend banality and keep you interested for a lifetime. Like Luca Turin, there is a big part of me that believes that all masculine fragrances begin and end with Azzaro Pour Homme, and I am very much ok with that. Simply put, a timeless masterpiece.

Many people might say this is "dated" or "old-man cologne." Both personally, and anecdotally, that is not true. This fragrance is classic, and therefore, timeless. Even my 20-something year-old girlfriend likes it. Like with most fragrances, the personality of the wearer is more important than their age.

In regards to formulations: newer batches (2019 onwards) are less well-blended, with a much sharper and synthetic anise-opening and an enduring screechy quality. Vintage batches (2000s or earlier) are much more refined and well-blended, with a softer, more natural opening and a smooth transition through the top, mid, and base-notes. Well worth the investment, especially while vintages are still affordable (for now.) That being said, the modern version is still pretty damn good!

Longevity is actually better in the newer batches, but this is a trade-off with it's more synthetic, anise-bomb opening. Still, the original batches are best and highly recommended if you want to experience this fragrance at its absolute best.

For the price, just buy it. Even if you don't wear it, this should be a staple in your olfactory library. Save it for a rainy day, you just might fall in love.

11Mic22hael33

Simply one of THE BEST men's fragrances ever created, even in it's newest formulation. This gem represents the ART of perfumery, back in the day when it was a genuine artform, unlike the modern day chemical messes that they push on us nowadays. There is no creative freedom anymore because of stupid and mindless regulations. These wanna-be tyrants are on a power trip. Perfumery is no longer an artform, it's a repulsive assault on our senses. IFRA has destroyed the art of perfumery. It's criminal! If there are certain ingredients that cause an allergic reaction in 2% or less of the population, all that is required is a warning on the label, ( "if skin irritation occurs, discontinue use"). Common sense!!! Banning or restricting NATURAL ingredients that have been used for centuries??? INSANITY!

CGV

Many things have been written about this beauty so I keep it short and simple: the smell of better days, better times and most importantly better people.

Lwjm

This is remarkable stuff - it's not for me, but could well be for you.

In my country, the United Kingdom of Managed Decline, the main brand of sanitised industrial supermarket cooking dried herbs is Schwartz.

They must have a factory somewhere which, through the application of cryothermic irradiation or something, turns rosemary, sage, thyme, basil and the rest, into the modest dessicated shadows of their former selves we see in jars in Sainsbury's.

The emissions from that factory are captured by Azzaro for your pleasure. For what it is, this is genius - you should buy it as part of your fragrance journey. I don't actually like it, but that does not take away from its robust excellence. This is a remarkable statement of a time and place, as well as an unashamed commentary on how a person can create a scent to 'be something'.

gxbjw

The opening smells like a 2-in-1 soap liquid from a cheap motel. Wait for 10 minutes until the soapiness fades out, and you get yourself a timeless barbershop fragrance.

The most notable notes to my nose are lavender, citrus, musk and cedar — but not to say they share the same starting point, if that makes sense. I really love the balanced combination of herbal and woody notes in the drydown, accompanied by a tiny, very tiny bit of soapy- sweetness.

Suitable for guys over 30, but guys over 25 can rock it with formal attire. However, if you’re a 20+ y/o collector, this is a must try.

Performance is moderate all across the board.

Very good, likable aromatic-fougere.

Wintertosummer

Azzaro Pour Homme smells like shaving cream, but maybe a little smoother and with some citrus. It makes me nauseous to wear. It is very strong and remained on my skin even after trying to wash it off with warm water and soap - several times.

It gave me a headache and made me feel “drunk” and foggy-minded.

Azzaro says this fragrance has over 320 ingredients, which is shocking and nothing to brag about. They claim half of the 320 ingredients are natural, which is still insane to consider it has over 150 synthetic chemicals, and 99% of them are unknown to the consumer because by law they are “trade secrets” of the company.

Why does Azzaro PH have over 320 ingredients, and what exactly are they? Would really be interested to know, especially considering this scent is not unique whatsoever.

If you want to smell like weird shaving cream, and if you want to put hundreds of unknown, synthetic chemicals on your skin to do so, then get Azzaro.

ShaunTY

At last! A winning, classic fragrance which elicits real and grounded reviews, instead of crappy novellas from failed authors about how this fragrance makes them 'feel' like they're walking through a mystical, pine-scented hillside with the wind blowing heroically through their hair as they yearn for their true love waiting in the cabin by the mist-shrouded lake(!) It's great. Just buy it.

Thomaso7

Azzaro has become my absolute favorite scent through the years, and somehow I knew it would be when I bought it first years ago. It just fits anyplace and everyplace. the lavender, the anise touch, the slightest coolness of vetiver, the spicy woodyness, the musk, the sandalwood, the citrus. it;s at once clean and shampooed and again musky and lightly spicy like animal fur.

AntonioM

The love of my life.

I own a bunch of perfumes, a couple of DIOR'S, their Privée's and some CHANEL'S, and a couple of their Les Exclusifs, but as much as I love them I keep going back to AZZARO POUR HOMME.
You just don't get anything classier and more classic than this.

I have three bottles in different sizes, but the weirdest thing is that one of them (the 50 ml) has a round silver logo/emblem at the top of the box which the others haven't.
This bottle in particular smells spicier, warmer and overall richer than the others, and I bought them all from the same online store. I even emailed them asking for an explanation but did not get one.

This is the only perfume I even have as a deodorant stick and shower gel, and if I can find a body lotion I will get it.

AZZARO my man, you are the one.

Review based on a mini of 7 ml, vintage Version.

Performance is moderate to good! Not monstrous like others said.
In the first hour, i like it, quite forresty like, woodsy, balmy, and strong...after that, i can't simply put my head around it, can't Associate the smell with anything, its just like it lacks character, if you know what i mean.

Maybe the problem was that it arrived with other fragrances, like Fendi Uomo, Davidoff pour homme and mila Schon uomo Classic, and tested all of them at the same time, and all three are way better than this one, which i wore it first at full.

Been rounding out my fragrance wardrobe with some classics and less sweet scents. Azzaro Pour Homme, while a classic aromatic fougere, still smells great today and is a nice barbershop fragrance that’s not too soapy. Not that soapy is bad, it’s just that this is different and I like it a lot. I’ve never known anyone who’s worn it so it seems new to me. I smell shaving cream, spices and juniper. It reminds me a little of Ralph Lauren Safari which I like better.

I like a fragrance that smells and performs good. I waited sometime before getting a bottle of this. The reason; all the comments regarding reformulation and weak performance. Well this fragrance doesn’t break your bank so I got a 60 oz. bottle. Just like many state: “a nice, fresh, barbershop scent.” But I find that the bottle I received performs great. I own a fairly decent collection and I know when a fragrance performs or not. My bottle is the new version and for what I paid for 60 oz bottle I’m very happy. I’m Wearing it now relaxing in my recliner sitting by my Christmas Tree. My point; Don’t always believe the negative reviews, get your nose on it and try it for yourself. I can’t speak for the original vintage formula but my new bottle is worthy of five stars, two thumbs up, or at least 9/10. I’ll enjoy this fresh fragrance for a long time with my big bottle!

I have to confess: I don't like anise as a note by itself because it reminds me of black licorice, which I just do not have the taste for (it's too medicinal). But this is the rare fragrance with a prominent anise note that I can enjoy so long as I do not try to analyze the individual notes, but enjoy as a gestalt.

It's a famous masculine fragrance that millions have worn and has been much copied; it's not an absolute favorite of mine, but taken as a whole I do enjoy it. It's got a nice balance between an aggressive this-puts-hair-on-your-chest fragrance and a softer prettier fougére.

Thomaso7

the new bottles with the black caps and black sprayers are way better than the previous bottles with the silver sprayers. the new ones spray out much more liquid making the scent more noticable and longer lasting. a citrusy top, leading into a lavender anise woody spicy musky mid, leading to a woody ambery base.

One would be remiss when discussing anise fragrances without at least mentioning Azzaro Pour Homme, This certified classic of the 70s saw huge commercial success and was a staple among many a man's grooming repertoire for decades. Sadly, this is one classic that has been hit hard by reformulations, with newer iterations hollowed out and thin in comparison to the robustness that persisted for years, particularly in its dry down.

It opens with its flash of anise partnered with lavender, an alchemical pair that is also wonderfully deconstructed decades later in Ellena's Brin de Reglisse. With APH, it serves as the bracing man-scent effect with supporting citruses. As the top notes settle, the anise grows a bit greener, herbal, woodier—and we experience that quintessential barbershop blob that many, including myself, love to lavish in. It's best described as a triumvirate of sandalwood, oakmoss, and coumarin—an extension of the age-old aromatic fougere that has long become associated with cleans-up-nice masculinity. In fact, my Harry's shaving soap pays homage to this tried and true accord. Here, however, with its signature anise, a notable tasty bite of juniper berry, and sawdust wood talc freshness, APH broke new ground even if some may find it a harsh mafioso-goldchain relic of the past (sigh).

Thankfully (for now), even older bottles can be bought for reasonable enough prices, and one need not reach that far back in time. The neutered formulations really only are from the past six or seven years or so. It's recommended to pick up bottles with the white screen print label rather than the transparent, embossed relief print on the front of the bottles. Then spray, delay, and walk away, taking in all that crisp, dry, spicy, mossy, musky goodness...

Love this fragrance.
Had one back in the late 80's or early 90's and decided to buy a bottle last week and it smells fantastic.
No issues at all with performance.
This has a nice lavender and anise aroma that hangs around, especially the anise, for a few hours then you get a soft but rich warm old school type smell that will waft around you when you move even after 4 or 5 hours.
Wish I had re-visited this sooner.

jameske

First smell made me think of 1980s, shaving for the first time, and splashing on something like this afterward. To my nose this is that dated. It doesn't smell bad, but whatever perfumers put in fragrances back then they all had this kind of vibe. If you are Gen X and want to reminisce then put on the drain pipes, the dms, and the white t-shirt, get the hairspray on the mentally deranged big hairstyle, and blare out A Flock of Seagulls on your Ghettoblaster, then splash on some Azzaro Pour Homme.

travisburnette

This smells good but the current configuration is one of the absolute weakest on the market. Barely lasts an hour. Very disappointed!

anasshth

The old school GOAT, i have owned this twice and smelled it when i was still a kid on my uncle (a big fragrance enthusiast)
This perfume never gets old, and it certainly a men's fragrance, if i own it again i'll be certainly grabbing it more than other fragrances.

billblm93

Smell only : One of the best /Top 10
You gotta love 70s/80s oldies though
Anise lavender basil oakmoss leather are the main players here at least to my nose
similar to rive gauche I mean 80% similar
shaving foam gilette type of smell but this one is spicier and sharper than rg less creamy and better in terms of smell
Better than drakkar noir also less playful, classy
Top class
performance bad (nowadays bottles) needs 3x sprays
very versatile
Great fragrance this one is from another era, mafia boss type of fragrance
The "industry" will probably discontinue this one soon i'm afraid

ROUSAK

A legend fragrance, barbershop and heavenly dry down. Similar to Tuscany. Not a power house. 7.5/10

alien_with_blue_eyes

This is a real men's fragrance, this is not for teenagers or metrosexuals... In my opinion for age 25+, for those who like barbershop and old school scents this is a hit.

namantha

for lavender lovers ...lavender notes always dominants

ryanreisinger

7 ml sample (the miniature flacon): no batch code on it. Lovely, masculine scent, which would have been great had it lasted longer than the 10 or so minutes I get. I honestly thought someone had watered this down until I read some of the earlier comments about performance currently. Very disappointing.

Thomaso7

just got my new bottle of Azzaro... somehow I love this fragrance. Its not a mind blower by any means, but it is certainly a mind lifter, neither is it a powerful scent such as drakkar noir or paco rabanne or kouros, but it just has all the right elements to smell great and the right amount of strength to be worn just about anytime anyplace for any reason. I also think it has a touch of class or elegance to it.
Azzaro lists it as a anise/lavender.
In this new bottle, the one with the black sprayer it shoots out a much more substantial and better shot of the liquid. I get a mandarine type citrus for the first couple of minutes, and then a dustyness creeps in, and then some musk. I can also get some lavender and the anise coming across as a cool sort of minty aspect like smelling an anise extract from a few inches away rather than real close where it would smell like licorice. I get a clean sort of soapy, or rather shampoo like soapyness in this, but there is that slightly dirty musk marking it's design as being from the 70's, and it is a nice furry sort of musk.
I know this fragrance also can express different notes in different types of environments and even on different days. more spicy in hot humid weather, and more like a sandalwood in very cold winter, but generally it is a citrus lavender anise woody spicy musky soapy clean fragrance that can work in many environments and is even quite elegant. Possibly because it is mentioned there are about 280 ingredients or so and half are of natural origin.
Now I am on my 5th? bottle, the new one with the refillable removable sprayer.

alisterlobo17

I bought this because i wanted an inexpensive barbershop scent but didn't want one that was too outdated. I wouldn't say this fits thay description. Its an old school barbershop scent with a soft spice to it but not the biggest fan of it. I just use at home after i shave or shower sometimes. There are definitely better barbershop scents out there, would have rather went for Drakkar Noir

gbone

just bought a new bottle wondering if my old one from a year or so ago was just a bad batch and my god its literally like water it dosent even feel like a fragrance ,its not even a shadow of its former self its worse than that you could spray it 20 times and nothing happens ....thats my last two bottles now ,they may as well stop making it ,there wasnt even the anise pop in the opening and the whole thing is so light its a joke

just buy yourself cuba black instead ,its cheaper ,smells richer and lasts longer and its very very close in smell to what azzaro once was

gbone

classic perfect 70s scent but the worst performance ive ever had in a fragrance ...piercing anise top note gone in seconds and the whole thing is a basic 70s mossy skin scent that you really have to dig into smell within 30 minutes ,its literally pointless owning it because you just cannot smell it ....drakkar noir and lomani pour homme are even cheaper along a similar line and outperform it by miles and they arent exactly powerful scents anymore

i wish i could break it down into top mid and base phases like some do but its literally 30 seconds opening then just disappears .people say its too manly or retro for certain situations like work etc .....you could use 10 sprays and go to church and people would barely notice 😂,its so inoffensive because its that weak

Go vintage or dont bother ,i thought the latest bottles of paco rabanne pour homme were weak but compared to this that lasts like vintage kouros

scentist82

Sandalwood destroying every single other note in the bottle. Welcome to the early 80s, baby.

CypressSnow

I recently tested it in store. They had new tester bottle. The top notes were gone in 30 seconds, the whole thing lasted maybe two hours, very little sillage. I like the scent, but performance is poor for that genre.

MB_CLS

In '80s I did like this more. I don't know what did happen. Did scent change or did my sense of smell change? Mysterious.

Vaineguardio

In my almost 2 years of collecting fragrances I have not objectively found one that I actually hate... until now.

I have found redeeming qualities in almost every fragrance that I have smelled to date, except azzaro pour homme, I had been mulling over whether or not to pull the trigger on this fella' for a while and just my luck, I found a tester in a local drug store. I sprayed two shots onto my forearm and could not get home fast enough to scrub this wretched crap off of my skin!

I'm someone that always tries very hard to like a fragrance or at least try to understand what it's going for, this one to me is an anomaly, to my nose it smells like a pine tree... a badly infected pine tree that is begging for death. It very retro, or "classic" smelling if you will, but there's timeless classic gems like cool water or Fahrenheit which still have their place today and then there's a fossil like this that needs to stay buried.

It's a shame since I love many of azzaro's offerings, this however is heinous and if I never smell it again it will be too soon!

Thomaso7

Interestingly, this is the most worn fragrance I have owned. I started off with the 6.7 ounce big boy, then went through 2 3.4 ouncers, and the final 3.4 ounce is almost empty. I will be buying a new one soon enough.
I really like this because it is a musky lavender fougere fragrance. And it has a strong anise scent too, which gives it a nice flavor. and other facets like dry woody spice. There are various aspects and smell which come out depending on time of year and temperature too. In the cold winter I get a lot of a sandalwood type scent, in summer it is more musky and sometimes kinda spicy or ambery. Sometimes it smells like a clean fragrance like coming out of the shower, other times it's more musky. sometimes some citrus here and there. But lavender is the main player in this fragrance over all.
It;s just right in terms of strength. its not a bomb and its not an eau du cologne either, so it affords a lot of flwxibility when to use it. I think it is actually quite elegant enough as well to be dressed up in, or just use casually.
I am on my 2nd bottle of Kouros, and my second of Paco Rabanne, but this one I have been through 4 or 5 so far. Once I got the shower gel which always smellt good when I used it.

FruitpunchsamuraiG

This is something else! Incredibly masculine, very powerful and unique and pretty long lasting on clothes. I have this in my collection and smell the cap so often during the day.

When i smell it, it does remind me of my father (but he does wear it allot!). Which sounds weird but i really don't mind. Some people are saying it's dated. I guess it has been around for a little bit. It also smells a little like what you would think old school masculinity smelled like. Some say barbershop, but i'm thinking more like cool rich old school business man in those black and white films.

This would be perfect on dates! Office.... not so much, it is a bit of a overpowering masculine smell, in a good way though. If in the right scenario. Office might be a bit too ballsy. This fragrance draws attention.

This is a good mature scent. The smell is very powerful, def not subtle in it's sillage so it might not be for everyone. Also i am a little bit more hesitant using it because people are saying it's outdated. I don't think it is but it does hold me back a little, wondering if the people that smell it think it. But at the end of the day you just got to own it to make it work. As is the case w all powerful and slightly unique fragrances.

The smell itself sure is unique and powerful buuuut, not in an aggressive way. The scents at the end of the day are vetiver, lemon, lavender, anise, bergamont, amber etc. (don't wanna list em all), they are mainstream accepted. It's not like there is a hit and miss ingredient like tabacco in there. (some hate it, some love it)

I'd recommend a blind buy. It is awfully cheap, not Davidoff cool water level cheap (10-20 bucks more maybe), but very good especially for it's performance and quality. Highly recommended.

Blacklotus11

Smells like grandpa, it just smells like old fashioned shaving cream that you can buy at the dollar tree... Reminds me of (forcefully) going to church as a child, smelling my hateful bigoted fundie Christian grandpa, seeing lunatics flailing their arms around and screaming that they're filled with the "holy ghost" just a big fat NO!! I already know my review is gonna be downvoted, because people that take this too personally. It's ok though, it'll still be on my profile smh ...

Made by Kouros

Wow that HARSH ANISE OPENING opening is quite something. Straight up seems like a 70's perfume for men who smoke. Or cigarettes with an anise and lavender flavoring.

This gets better as it reaches the shaving soap phase, but still, no.

MY37

I have the urban spray and current iteration..current fragrance this is little more than eau fraich with 15-30 min last ing power NO anise or any aroma to speak of except a hint of watered down citrus..save your money or get a roll on oil from ebay imho

brokesta911

Azzaro Azzaro pour homme (1978) - anise fougere - #gerardanthony and #richardwirtz created this best-in-class perfume on the use of Anise as an ingredient in this aromatic fougere. At the top, Citruses, Lavender and Anise is a balance between bitterness, acidity, and sweetness. The main accord showing facets of Anise (apart from it’s fennel-like scent) - animalic, herbal, and sweet. The heart and drydown softens the aromatic top into a barbershop fougere, akin to shaving foam. Oakmoss, Coumarin, Vetiver, Patchouli, Sandalwood and Cedar make up most of the composition as it settles.

uhohstinky

A great barbershop fougere. A classic among men. I recommend giving this a try if you like older gentlemanly fragrances.

fragr@ntica

Excellent. Crisp, sweet, warm, fresh, spicy.

Xxixalan

This maybe a far stretched but if Channel Number 5 were to have a male cologne version of it, this would be it. It was a blind buy for me ($20) and I think it’s totally worth it if you can find it in that price range. Though you may smell like an old men…

mauryji

_the most beautiful thing that can happen to you is to cross passers-by who compliment you on your perfume

_while you had just discussed with your best friend who considers it a bit dated

_i already said once that i love azzaro

_and i repeat it

smellgoodguy

Guys, look... Just stop. Wear this. It's ok. Believe me. Everyone is so bent on not wanting to smell dated that they bypass this in favor of newer releases. Even if they secretly really enjoy wearing this.

I think the main reason people run with the notion of this smelling dated is only because of the date it was released. If this were a recent release, by some niche house, I think it would be far more accepted.

Now, don't get me wrong, this is a very mature smelling fragrance. But mature and dated are not one and the same. Tom Ford's Beau de Jour is mature. Not dated. Dior's Sauvage Elixir is mature. Not dated. I can go on... All of which are recent releases.

So, at the end of the day, it's really up to your nose and not your eyes ( ...dates and batch codes...) to determine what's right for you; in terms of fragrances.

Personally, if you like mature scents---barbershop scents, in particular---i think this will beat out a lot of fragrances far more expensive and recent. Especially if you're into dressing sharp.

Out of all my fragrances this falls into, at max, my top 30 favorite fragrances. In fact, I'm wearing this right now and I keep lifting my shirt and smelling when no one's around. That's why I thought I would write this brief rant. Lol.

Forget the date. Go for it. Trust me.

fffilth

not overly evocative but simple and well done. the anise/licorice hit you get from the first spray is incredible

11Mic22hael33

Quite possibly the most perfect men's fragrance ever created. It's a work of genius. A true work of art. Every single Frag-Head should have this in their collection and it should be front and center on the shelf.

Hawaii Jake

Smells exactly like good quality shaving creme. This fragrance has earned its place as a classic that belongs in every man's collection. It's cheap, and it is high quality. Herbal, woody, musky. A simple good smell.

Marcjohn86

This is one of my earlier fragrance loves. I first bought a bottle of this back in ~2015, which is about 4 years before I really started to get into the fragrance community. I remember reading the reviews and looking at threads on forums about the best "old school masculine" fragrances that were cheap, and this one was always on those lists so I had to track down a bottle. I went through a full 100ml that I'd bought from TJ Maxx for about $25 or 30, and I just never re-purchased it because I kind of fell away from fragrances until about 2019. It's 2022, and I finally re-upped on this stuff, but with one distinction. I have the UrbanSpray variation which is how Azzaro Pour Homme was packaged from 1996 into the early 2000s, but maybe someone with better knowledge can confirm or deny this.

This UrbanSpray is a lot stronger, and a lot denser than the original. It has a lot more of that "oak moss" feel to it, it's far more green, and it comes off way more serious than the bottle that I'd purchased back in 2015. Lavender is still dominant in this, it's just way earthier, darker, and more intense than the original. You could re-release this and call it the "Intense" flanker and I'd absolutely believe that it was. I like it a lot, it still retains the vibe of the one I had but it smells more like how I imagine fragrances in the 70s and 80s smelled. This is the fragrance that your dad might have worn the night you were conceived, it has that old school night out fragrance and I'm sure this was an absolute killer back in the late 70s and 80s when fragrances like these were all the rage. When people say that "they don't make them like this anymore", they're not lying, they really don't make fragrances like this anymore. This is way too complex and sophisticated and dark for a young man these days, but that's exactly who this was for back when it was released. This was a young man's fragrance once upon a time, but now it's more of a dad fragrance.

Anyways, I like it, I think it's a completely timeless piece of barbershop goodness with that lavender and oakmoss combo. I don't think this will ever go completely out of style. If you like Rive Gauche, Drakkar Noir, Beau de Jour, Guerlain Heritage, Brut Faberge, Paco Rabanne Pour Homme and other fragrances in that style, this is right up there with all of those and I think anybody who collects and likes those kinds of fragrances should at least give this a shot.

Rayman73

This is a timeless classic. A truly masculine scent of the late 70’s that just grows on you. I’ve been using it for as long as I can remember and still appreciate the quality and the signal it sends straight up and in your face that I maybe old but I’m here to stay for as long as you stay with me and beyond. Another must have cologne in every man’s collection.

Thatbwoy

I usually take some pop culture imagery and use that to segue into talking about the fragrance via some grammatically-poor word salad; this is no different.

I grew up in the 80's in a West Indian/Caribbean household; there is a reason why I mentioned this, because everyone with the same background as me will be very familiar with the importance of music. It was like a constant soundtrack, it signalled different aspects of the week; for instance I knew that if Country & western was playing when I woke up it meant housework; Motown/Stax meant it was a party or something social Bob Marley at night meant "the ni'ht fi dun!"...Sundays David Rodigan on Capital Radio

If I heard Dancehall...that meant a proper party, the ones that started at 2pm and ended sometime the next morning, the ones that you had to clear a room for, one you would watch men arrive with speakers inna van, one where there could be fight over a song selection, one that I should not be awake for later that night and no business creeping downstairs to bother myself with; because I might hear stories "grown up, big man tings". Though discovered I would be given a sip of Guinness Punch or 'surreptitious' sip of rum or then paraded up front to show off "that breakdancing them kids are doin" to a night filled with Yellowman, Don Carlos, Toyan, Barrington Levy, U-Roy and one artist that will forever typify that time and parties - Tenor Saw.

You might not know who he is, I would put good money on it that nearly 99% of the people you might read this won't have clue what song he's famous for. No matter. Its not important. what is the my memories of that time and how Azzaro pour Homme deftly rings the alarm(eh? eh?) of that time for.

You see Azzaro Pour Homme is so of that time; It belongs to the early 80s. It sits so comfortably alongside the Aramis, Paco, Antaeus and Kouros of the time. It opens with an almost acrid Caraway and Anise, its a sharp and almost jarring as it comes at you with no warning. The top notes in this are so prominent and strong, that they appear to pervade still even in the dry down. In the air this lingers with an authority (gah!) . When I first sampled this I was a little disappointed, as I was expecting something closer to a modern fougere; along the lines of Platinum Egoiste (which I am not much a fan of) or something with that flinty ambroxan. I remember it was some time way back when I was looking for something like Dior Sauvage but more Tom Selleck and less Jay Hernandez (Magnum P.I fans will get it). I wanted something like my lost YSL Rive Gauche.

I left my little sample and did the wrong thing: I went onto YouTube and Basenotes - wrong move ordinarily as I usually say to ignore other's opinion and trust your nose. This time I was thankfully wrong and thanks to a write up someone called 'Xaterian Stormrage' and a funny video by Lex Ellis - decided to go back to it. I then finally got it. It was the Hairy chested bastardo that I wanted to exude.

Ok I'll blub on about projection - well I think it waft out and can be picked up by those around you. The silage is great it won't fill a room (unless you over-overspray, the atomiser on these bottles are not great you might have to veer toward adding another two or three sprays but don't over do it as you'll near choke out passers-by within the first few hours but then a close skin scent. But I like that, I don't want beast mode everyday. Longevity? I wore this four days ago and it last nearly all day and I enjoyed smelling it off my arms and chest. I would expect a vintage bottle of this would have slightly more projections and depth. Having to clamour for attention over those late seventies /early eighties stinks, of smoke, smog, exhaust fumes, coal fires, cheap alcohol and tobacco B.O, bad breath and low-rent recreational drugs this would have packed a punch - there's a hint at it here in the modern formulation, but (THANKS IFRA) its a pale imitation of its former self.

I honestly think I would wear this for most of this Spring, and early Autumn, but its a freshie that I can get on board with for Spring. It retains an ambery impression but due to the citruses, lavender and iris it's less aquatic/ozonic blue freshie and more of an earthy freshness. How I feel when I wear this aligns with the memory of those parties from my childhood. Those incidences when I would be surrounded uncles, aunties, family friends etc talking, telling tales and jokes, bass bins, blown amp valves and skanking.

Y'see Azzaro Pour homme typifies the laconic imagery of Caribbean Men, like my Dad and Uncles (if you want an idea watch a video of Viv Richards, Curtly Ambrose, SuperCat, Gregory Isaacs on YouTube) a whole certain persona, mannerisms and movement that is peculiar to the Caribbean male of the time. I don't remember any adult male from my childhood wearing this scent but it feels so familiar and so as though an Uncle or one of my father's friends would have smelt like this. I am almost transported back and at the same time very present when I wear this I feel as though I have my favourite asymmetrical patterned bri-nylon shirt on under my Sergio Tacchini tracksuit, hair glossy with Johnson & Johnson Ultra Sheen, Gold Chains by H. Samuel, shoes by Clark's Originals and Azzaro Pour Homme as the pervading aroma.

Mi Set’l. 7.8/10

fabianapmadruga

Shut up and take everything! This perfume is threatening to me, sexy AF, absolutely masculine and imponent, involving, secure, mature. A man who wears Azzaro is not taken by trends or new takes, he knows who he is, the impression he wants to create and what he likes. It really appeals to me far more than any other masculine perfume. Hot, period!

Spendthrift

I get great longevity out of this.

Maybe owned it a year or so. So if it’s recently reformulated, maybe I just snuck in ‘under the wire’?

I could do without quite so much anise in the opening. For the first hour or so it has something of Burt Reynolds about it. Which doesn’t bother me particularly. Besides, I know it’s going to settle down into a very clean, classic scent that’s going to take me through the rest of the day and into the early evening.

Lucky me!

Crash000001

Smells great, but longevity leaves a lot to be desired.

Classic barbershop scent. Smells great for 1-2 hours.

Fades to a skin scent in after 2 hours. 3-4 hours in I can’t smell it.

If you spray clothes, you can smell it the next day if you burry your nose in it, but no one would notice it, even with a hug.

If this lasted 6-8 hours I’d rate this a 8.5/10.
Because of it’s poor longevity it only gets a 5/10 from me.

I’d use it after shaving, after a shower, but Iwould not wear it out. It won’t last long enough to make it though half the day.

I’d stick with others that are in the same vein like PS fine cologne, Drakkar Noir, etc…

My clubman aftershave has better longevity.

If this is long lasting for you, you have an old batch or amazing skin chemistry.

BatemansFragrances

Opens up like a creamier foamier harsher more complex Brut but quickly gets into a dry lavender anis and oakmoss combo. It's not anis like in other fougeres where it comes off like black liquorice or liquorice like, it's more spicy and rooty. There's a nice lemon in there too before the full drydown.

This was recently reformulated too because of the lilial ( butyl methylpropional ) ban but my bottle seems OKAY 2.5 hours in considering i only did 4 sprays and the atomizer is quite weak, atleast on the 50ml. I recommend doing 6-8 sprays if you feel your atomizer doesn't spray much.

Pretty much exactly what I wanted from this scent as i bought it blind. A night time very BRASH masculine barbershop smell.

FragrantBob

Azzaro pour Homme is an old-school masculine barbershop fragrance. This fragrance has a strong warm opening with with sandalwood, musk, caraway and anise providing an interesting spicy/aromatic opening. The dry-down remains warm musky and woody with floral notes, particularly geranium becoming more evident. All over a very masculine scent, very barbershop with a strong men's grooming product accord. To me it does not smell particularly refined or expensive, I still prefer Paco Rabanne Pour Homme or Aramis but I like the warmth and some of the complexity of the blend of Azzaro pour Homme. If you enjoy the classic, masculine fougeres and barbershop scents then this is definitely worth trying. Azzaro pour Homme has good projection, at least arm length or a little beyond, for the first hour then it settles a bit more intimately. Longevity on my skin was around 5 hours. So I would say an interesting old-school masculine scent with reasonable performance.

Vikkinca

It's just not possible to get more fougere or barbershop than Azzaro Pour Homme. What a pleasure to have this classic in my collection⭐ If you are looking for that perfect luxurious, freshly shaved scent, then get this amazing fragrance. It is one of the most masculine of perfumes. It has it all: soapy, musky, spicy, powdery with a bit of sweetness. It makes you feel clean, confident and manly.

Azzaro Pour Homme is as relevant today as it was forty years ago. Suitable for any occasion. This legend is going to be around for as long as mankind exists💖

SaturnsOrbit

I'm in the early stages of my "barbershop" fragrance journey, so I got this out of curiosity after reading so many glowing reviews. A sample of "At the Barber's" (which I have come to really enjoy and does absolutely give me the barbershop vibe) was my starting point, and my hope was that this would be similar for a good price.

Well, it is similar, but also very different in a way that I didn't expect, but probably should have. "At the Barber's" is predominately fresh and clean, but this has a lot more base and "thickness," something you could expect from a scent released in 1978. It also lasts A LOT longer, lingering on my skin for at least 12 hours. This is something better suited for cooler weather, and is very much a scent for an older gentleman.

I appreciate it, and will likely reach for it every now and then before the weather warms up, but this is a fragrance I do see myself having to "age" into to fully embrace it.

I enjoy barbershop-style fragrances and this one is no exception, but talk about an opening. This one is like a punch to the face, very sharp and medicinal to my nose. Unforgiving, but rich wet herbal spiciness. Quickly mellows out and takes on a more shaving cream kind of smell. To me its clean, masculine, and confident in a kickass sort of way - like skydiving, or walking into the boss's office, slamming your fist on the desk and demanding a raise.

Longevity is where this frag fails for me. Maybe it just doesn't work with my skin but I'm only getting 3 or 4 hours before it fades completely. Feels like I get better performance from Pinaud Clubman which is a cheap aftershave. Too bad, but that said I still enjoy it while it lasts and often wear it over the more expensive fougeres I own simply because Azzaro PH is confident as hell.

Got a big bottle of this classic juice recently and I like the dry down on my clothes but not my style.. The opening and sillage is too strong and harsh to me and I just don't wear this thing well. I totally get the appeal and I want to like it but I just won't pick this up out of my collection on most occasions..

If anyone is interested in buying the bottle off of me for a discount off retail shoot me a private message. I don't have the box anymore but I've only sprayed a few times and it's a 6.8oz bottle. Willing to bargain.

Cheers!

The opening of Azzaro Pour Homme is just beautiful. Anise, caraway, lavender, sage, basil, bergamot and a soapy iris just sing like a chorus. I hadn't worn this in a long while and just gave it a wearing today. Oh my goodness! What a classic scent. It all came rushing back, the beauty of this well crafted fougere. It was a strangely warm day for December and Azzaro was ready to perform under today's sky. I love the soapy muskiness and that light leather, the spices, this fragrance covers all the bases and packs a classy wallop to the senses. Azzaro Pour Homme is that barbershop vibe that makes you feel fresh and clean when you sport it. The leaps made with this fragrance during a wearing are fantastic; soapy, spicy, musky all the way to powdery and then back again. Azzaro Pour Homme gets worn under anything during fall, winter or spring. From flannel to gingham to leather, Azzaro has you covered with that classic barbershop finishing touch.

This is one of the loves of my life.
It was 1986 or 87 when I got a bottle for Christmas from my aunt. I must have been 12 or 13, but remember this was the 80's so I used to wear it a lot 😊

Azzaro Pour Homme is the quintessential classic man scent. It's elegant, fresh and to my nose very very romantic, almost seductive. It is warm and woody yet with razor sharp spicyness.
Every time I wear it I am transported to another world. To an organic, non digital world. To a time when everything was real and nothing was virtual.
Azzaro Pour Homme is as real as it gets.

I'm gonna have to preempt J_TheWombKilla here.

The Spy from Team Fortress 2 wears this.

"Gentlemen..."

Holy bejesus, that anise! While Drakkar Noir captures everything you could reasonably want in the shaving creams stocked in a old school barbershop, Azzaro PH goes and crams in mysterious powders and tonics from those shelves to boot.

Unfortunately, this falls off rapidly at midday from a morning application. (Checkfresh is telling me I have a 2013 bottle bought just this year from an online discounter?) Drakkar Noir from 2020 still projects in reaction to movement and sweat into the late afternoon.

Firstly, let me start off by saying that I am a lover of old school classic style scents, so I thought Azzaro Pour Homme would be right up my alley. That spicy anise blast gives it a very unique twist separating it from other scents of it's time, which to me can make it pretty wearable today without the bubble gum smelling hipsters thinking you smell like a historical artefact. Azzaro Pour Homme has a lot going for it even today. However, performance is not one of them. I don't know how people are saying they get a full day out of this. I over spray and can barely smell it 3 hours later. Performance aside, I don't know how this gets classified as a barbershop fragrance either. I've always classified barbershop scents as in the aromatic fougere category and while APH does have some green notes, the spices in this make them hardly noticeable. i find it to be more of an oriental than an aromatic fougere considering some of the most famous barbershop scents such as Paco Rabbane Pour Homme, Drakkar Noir, Duc De Vervins, Brut etc don't smell anything like this. But if you take it's classification away, on it's own merit it's a wonderful smell. I wouldn't put it in my old shchool hall of fame, there are far better deserving ones, but for it's price and it's ability to still be relevant it's probably an honorable mention.

DariuszXY

What a strange scent in the first hour! It's so brutal – you can smell anise and other herbs, citruses and a lot of – and I mean it – a lot of pepper and other heavy spices! Wife said it smells like five spice powder from Chinese cuisine. It all hits your nose like a fist. This is not necessarily a bad thing – but a very peculiar indeed. The dry-down is a different story. It calms down and gets woody, herbal, leathery. Still very masculine, but very pleasant and easier on the nose. You will stand out with this scent. It will give you confidence. It is bold and elegant. But this a very mature fragrance, it won't suit teenagers or even 20+ guys.

It stays on my skin for quite long – after five hours it's still noticeable and after six hours it almost dies. But like I said, it's overly strong only in the first hour. During the first hour it can easily fill the room, and then it gets calmer, closer to the skin. It leaves a nice sillage.

If you'd like to try something similar, try cologne called Brutal Classic by a Polish brand Miraculum. It smells very, very similar to the first hour of Azzaro pour Homme. It's very cheap and very brutal – hence the name. It was a classic fragrance in Poland many, many years ago.

Trendkill97

Lemon oil, fresh, vetiver and heavy lavender with musk, and a twist of anise, clean crisp, zingy with some green undertones. Masculine, timeless, barbershop classic. Soapy and clean. Newer batches do not perform so well. But it's a nice fragrance to reach out for on a warm spring day, just casually when you want to feel confident.

WGG

I keep a bottle of this, Jazz and Antaeus for nostalgic reasons but find I reach for those more, even then not that frequently. However I much enjoy the L'Eau flanker, wafts of Rive Gauche, lighter, sweeter, anise dialed down, more versatile. I get my (diluted) hit of APH that way and find I reach for L'Eau often as a daytime/indoor/office fragrance. Lovers of anise should stick with the original.

Azzaro pour Homme is a more than familiar smell, as it is smelled more than a thousand times in a lifetime (at least by those who shave) ... used by big industry for a set of cream shaving and aftershaves sold decades ago, it's more than common!

But this is not at the origin of all this, is nevertheless one of the references in terms of male perfume, a classic of aromatic ferns.

It is fresh (anise / citrus), spicy, and of course lavender and oakmoss ... it's a bit dated due to its long industrial overuse but not from an olfactory point of view: it is above all fun, versatile, classic, and distinguished!

Appreciated by those who have not been jaded by the number of repetitions; like a much loved song: It's the price of the classic, Azzaro pour Homme, it's not more, not less ..

I don't really believe in age when it comes to perfumes, there are tastes and personalities that would suit it perfectly..it's in the same vein as Tsar (VC&A) Jazz and Rive Gauche (YSL) and yet it is different to each of them, Azzaro has an invigorating side that none of the other three have, it's like you've both just applied your aftershave / shaving cream and he's following you for it day ... the others have a perfume side that he does not have, and this is not a bad thing for this one, on the contrary it reinforces his distinction and his asset. Do you like the smell of shaving foam with that cool effect? Go for Azzaro pour Homme

youeatcheese

A great classic men's fragrance.
Try a layering it with Azzaro Pour Homme Intense - just magical.

Daranena

I am falling in love with whoever wearing this!!! this is the men's perfume that every man should have!

I bought this for nostalgia and out of curiosity: is it the same as the Azzaro Pour Homme I used in the 1980s?

I'm surprised by how similar this 2021 version is to my mid 1980s version which is now long gone or long spoiled.

There are differences though. The new version definitely has a sharper smell that reminds me of metal. That's the most significant difference and I think it is a negative that was not present in the 1980s version.

It's also less warming and less spicy than the earlier version and also possibly a bit more powdery with more depth and a more complex or longer lasting dry down.

It may be the case that the changes have modernised it very slightly.

Ultimately though it's instantly recognisable.

It's a great barber shop style fragrance but it has much more complexity and class than most barbershop fragrances.

I'm glad I bought it and I would strongly recommend it especially if you want to recapture memories from earlier years - good and not so good.

speckmann0706

If I wanted a signature masculine fragrance Azzaro Pour Homme would be it old school but still modern and versatile. To imagine 300+ ingredients are the make up of this fragrance boggles the mind. This was the good ole times when men smelled manly and rugged but also of class, always a pleasure to wear in my weekly rotation. The current refillable 100ml bottles are excellent 5-6 sprays will get you through a day easily.

11Mic22hael33

A magical creation. A perfect alchemy of notes that lift up your spirit and mood. A true legend in perfumery. Absolute perfection. Much longer lasting than people realize. It's easy to go nose-blind to it, but people around you can still smell it many hours later. A masterful blend that I will always cherish.

alexisgomel

A "manlier" more synthetic version of Eau des merveilles. To me it smells like orange and spices

ONE-CLASSIC-MAN

Azzaro P H is a really beautiful classic with its own identity! Pleasant and 100% masculine! I think there is no need to say more..

Jayli

It's classy and enjoy all the time. I encountered this fragrance in the Mexico City then after comparing with many others I selected this. I didn't know it is a really classy that time. Ten years passed, I still love this one especially the middle notes. It's really awesome. Classy is anytime popular and never out-dated.

WiscoFrag

I bought this blindly because so many people recommend it. I was starting to get into old school drags and it was affordable, so I figured why not. At first I didn't really think much of it. Nothing too exciting. But something kept bringing me back to it. I noticed a decent sized dent in the amount of juice in the bottle, had I really been using this that much? Looked at my fragrance of the day here and on BN, sure enough, I had been using it as much as what I though were my top frags, of not more often. It has become one of my top scents without me even realizing it. I feel like no matter how many scents I have or what is new to my collection, I still wear this at least twice a week. It's just so perfect.

Clean and complex. Nobody my age or younger is wearing it and the people that have experience with it from it's heyday has long retired, so it's definitely unique at work and amongst my peers outside of work.

My wife didn't like it at first because it was too mature compared to the modern blue frags she was used to me wearing, but it grew on her as well. I get compliments from women and men. Not because it's sexy, but because it just smells so damn good.

Maybe not blind buy worthy for younger guys, but do not dismiss this old school stalwart. It might be in your wheelhouse more than you realize.

FreddyK

Confidence. This is what I get when I spray Azzaro pour Homme. Not a freshie nor a mass appealing scent. This is a fragrance You wear for Yourself (like any other). Spicy, sweetness underneath, manly. If You want something that is not dated (at least in my opinion), masculine, and has great power go check Azzaro pour Homme.

MrAramis

I tried this on winter time for a full week to get the feel, I wanted to like it, keep it.
There is some, maybe the anise that does not agree.
I have and use Aramis my favorite, Kouros, Quorum and One Man Show i like those.

Thomaso7

Azzaro. Probably one of the most universal nice smelling scents that exists. It smells nice, mature, a touch playful perhaps, but also clean, fresh, lavendery, and a touch musky and dusty. It is my most used scent for some reason, it's just an easy reach. Its not one of those strong fragrances, so that also helps it be an easy wear. It just smells good.
Sort of botanical. Its not rich like paco rabanne or other chalky fougeres like that, its a bit more transparent.
It has a good bit of an oily musk, lavender, anise, some cedar or patchouli dustiness, and some other things, perhaps just a touch of a citrus someplace. There's probably even some sandalwood. All in all I might compare it to a 70's style musk soap with lavender.

Luxfare

Very nice fresh fragrance. Slightly rough opening which settles down to a typical clean barbershop soapy fragrance. I’m 41 and I’d suggest trying before you buy if you’re in your teens or 20s, or like sweeter scents.

103057

The opening is mostly iris, I think, with some clary sage and lavender. Herbal-spicy. I don't get much citrus at first, though bergamot appears faintly as the other top notes fade. After half an hour, I can make out leathery and tobacco notes, though they're quite subtle and accompanied by lemon.

I had to put a decent amount on to be able to smell this at all, but once I did, it retained reasonable strength for a good eight hours. Projection was a little less than an arm's length at first, fading to about a hand's length later on.

If you want a perfume that everyone around you can smell, this isn't it; if you want something to enjoy just for yourself, this might work if you like the scent. I didn't especially love the combination of notes, and so probably wouldn't wear it again. It's a classic-style fragrance that's pretty easy to like, if not love, so if you're into blind buying this is most likely a safe bet.

seannmoore

Such a great, great frag. I have a 50 mi refil bottle but it lasta 30 min on me.

Td23

A classic, manly and old-school fragrance yet still wearable today.
Only downside is that it does not project much and lasts only about 3 hours.

Sammy@au

Azzaro pour homme.
Wonderful cologne. A classic.
Old school, but this is a cool cat & very wearable.
Fresh, crisp, warm, unique.
There is a wonderfull energetic blast of aniseed in the opening very bracing.
Very great way to to start the day.

Novoscentologist

When I was a teenager in high school I had a math teacher you could smell before you could see him.
When he was around you knew where he was just by following the scent trail.
At that time I enjoyed scents, sniffed my dad's after shaves every now and then but all i owned was a deodorant to cover up puberty.
My classmate sitting right in front of the teacher's desk once asked Mr. M what cologne he was wearing because she found it very strong and almost offensive.
He replied Azzaro and carried on with difficult maths tasks.
Ok Azzaro I thought, not intrigued by it, not interested in spending money on it , I moved on with my life.
Many years and cologne later I bought it in 2021.
Does it remind me of my math teacher?
Maybe a bit because i could only vaguely remember what the scent was like.
Definitely very nice, with that anise hint, touch of amber, warm and spicy.
Could i drown out the corridors of my old high school with it?
No, unless I bath in it.
It is watered down, but also very affordable.
Overall a very nice classic scent worth having.
It is similar to Aramis Tuscany but they do evolve into slightly different directions during dry down.

stefanjanum80

All time classic barbershop fragrance. To me, this one is still a fantastic scent, even though it came out in 1978. There is a reason it's still around after all these years!

Fragaddict123

A barber shop fragrance
The opening is a little harsh
Dry down is fabulous
But the issue it doesn’t stay on you for long
It keeps going and coming for 4 to 5 hours max

Ozyman

In the winter.
Cold night.
Leather jacket.
Spray 2 spritz not more.
This thing it not from this world.
It has some aggression i admit.
But also so special. I think if it was written Marley on it, it may be the most wanted cologne of this decade.
What a perfume!

Woody57

I've owned a bottle on and off since 1978.The anise seed and its many complex notes are still worthy of respect even after reformulations. You don't need to buy vintage to appreciate its unique qualities. It's a bit on the dressier side of fashion. Evenings, dates, and slightly cooler weather are preferred with APH. Some call it old school or dated. But if you wear it with confidence, age is not an issue. I leave it for periods of time but always come back to it. People still notice it and respect it. No youthful sweetness here. But no 70s uber hairy chest masculinity either. At least not to me. Those who know it will remember and love it. And yes, it does still get women's attention. Maybe that's why I bought a 200 ml recently. Just don't wear it in the high heat.///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
Late Sept. and the temps have dropped. Time to break out my APH again and start in back up in my cool weather rotation. I've decided though that it's best to keep most sprays off of my neck since the opening can be a bit potent. Under the shirt and on the extremities works well for me

anders.pilot

classic shaving cream scent, I only own and rebuy around 8 frags this is one of them. I can always rely on this. At first a little heavy on the anise that's how it differs from RG and Tom Ford BDJ, but, just wait it will dry down beautifully, truly timeless, smells like musky clean power from a can of shaving cream. Damn I love the shaving cream smell like barbasol and Gillette red (the first shaving cream in space). If they made an exact Gillette red shaving cream scent EDT I would buy it always. 10/10 for timelessness.

Wahab56

This is an excellent fragrance, it got me some compliments. To me this smells very old school something that speaks for itself, As soon as I put this on from the top notes I somehow find it similar to Polo Green EDT, it holds onto to its similarity till its dry down. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who’s a fan of Aromatic fragrances and a must buy once. For me this will now stand out to be amongst my signature scents. This has also intrigued me to try out more Azzaro Pour Homme Family scents.
The projection and sillage to me are enormous however the longevity to me was about 5 hours on my skin but more than 10 hours on my clothes and the smell still lasts on my clothes.

Guitar 2016

It's a great fragrance and a true classic from the 70's. AZZARO evokes a feeling in me of old memories. It opens up with like fresh spicy and green herbal notes in the background then dry down is mossy woody. The Anise note is dominant in this perfume. This is perfect for the spring, fall and winter. LONGEVITY is very good. I really enjoy it and I like AZZARO POUR HOMME EDT.
Thumbs Up.

My wife has been cutting my hair since covid hit and so I missed some of the barbershop smell idea. After watching many reviewers and such, I picked this one. The first time I tried it, it was definitely dangerously close to a cvs type aftershave smell in my connotations. But the second time I tried it I liked it a lot more. A sort of clash between the lavender and herbs/spices top/mid with the the sweet, vanillic base happens, giving a pleasant, dense result. Definitely gives the full vibe of barbershop smells! Wonderful for when I’m in that mood.

duftagut

These smell-evoking memories, sometimes so subtle and fleeting they provoke a wild sniffing. Just like that, Azzaro lingers in the air, warm and clean in a 1980’s way. In the front pocket of his denim jacket - a squeezed soft package of cigarettes rounds up what is left of that anise and lemon sting. This friday night, he just pops by and says hi before heading down to the pub. Moustache trimmed, ready to kiss that certain woman. And as an enlightening trail into the adult world - this soft but confident air stays in our kitchen until mum starts frying fish. It is lavender, maybe orange juice and spices muted in musk. No sharpness, no detergent-like simplicity. Just honest and rewarding, like that kiss from a certain woman.
As long as love is in fashion, Azzaro will never ever smell dated.
(Newer versions are maybe sharper and with less depth, but that is just what we oldboys say about digital recordings. If you never listened to vinyls, don’t bother finding vintage bottles - which in my experience can become a little weak. You will find love in the current formulation!)

Katabetha

Oh man this is definitely an old school mature manly scent. The anise is prominent and gives it a herbal profile

UPDATE (May '22), my big bottle is now two years old (5/2020, batch code 91T500) and with my usual application -- two to the chest, one to each wrist and one slapped on the face/rubbed into the hair after shaving) projects noticeably for close to 3 hours and lasts 8ish hours as a beautiful, complex skin scent that I am aware of as I move throughout my day. The top notes are a bit nose-searing and so I really suggest keeping things minimal to avoid noseblindness. This is NOT a fragrance I feel the need to top up over the workday, nor is it substandard for an EDT.

Azzaro Pour Homme is beyond a shadow of a doubt one of those fragrances that time and oxygen help to feel richer, stronger and longer lasting. Today I wore a typical application of most anything I'd wear (two to the chest, one to each wrist, a leftover dab behind each ear) and here I am at the end of an eight hour work day still sensing that suffused fresh, spicy, foamy, leathery deliciousness. As a skin scent it's faint but clinging, but more noticeable is its grounding and tenacious aura. This little 30 ml bottle was purchased in 2012 or 13 (when I found it rather short-lived, and not quite to my tastes), worn only sporadically until today.

Even my fresh new 100 ml bottle has, without the benefit of oxidization, decent staying power by contemporary EDT standards, generally putting in a good six or seven hours (the first two or three being very nice, very noticeable.) The far drydown is certainly close and quiet, but faithfully persistent, with some really nice subtle effects happening as the last traces warm from the fabric of my shirt and give up the ghost. The star anise (a note I've always thought blended wonderfully with the smell of the body) is really one with the scent of skin at this point, and there is an undeniable 'fuzzy', 'purring' quality to the remaining base of musks, moss analogues and patchouli that goes on for a long time after, producing a 'lived-in' effect that exactly suits the feeling of the loosened tie and rumpled suit jacket after a very long day at work... You forget about it until you get up and move or the temperature changes from a breeze blowing in or you undo a collar button and then...there it is.

Azzaro Pour Homme has very slowly grown on me to the point that I now think of it as one of the most wearable fragrances in my wardrobe. The somewhat legendary reviewer Colin Maillard heaped memorable praise on it (you can read his great review on his blog 'Ye Olde Civet Cat.') Here is an excerpt:

"What amazes me the most and what makes Azzaro pour Homme so unique and sets the difference with most of other fougères is the irresistible, manly, silky cleanliness of the herbal-floral accord of citrus, sage, lavender and anise: it’s cozy, fresh, gently sweet, bright and radiant but also velvety and “virile”, which then perfectly drifts on an endless drydown more on mossy-woody notes. Sage and anise give something here which you won’t find anywhere else. Perfect for any age, any time, any mood, without being generic or shallow – just perfect. Not much to say: one of the true masterpieces of masculine perfumery of any time. I am more familiar with the vintage version, which to me smells slightly richer and darker, but the current version is a must as well."

I appreciate that this reviewer, who often states his preference for vintage versions of classic pillars (such as Eau Sauvage or Hermès Equipage) shows respect for newer formulations of Azzaro (his review is circa 2014) alongside the much-praised vintages. I have not tried older versions, but to my nose his descriptors are transferable to the new formulation I put on this morning. Give it a little attention and a good, full wearing; resist reapplying it as the day goes on to note the soft but meaningful drydown that is the source, IMO, of the loyalty this fragrance has inspired in generations of wearers.

P.S. This is one of those fragrances that, on Basenotes in particular, seems to inspire the most polarized discussions of vintage vs. current formulations of any classic fragrance I can think of. For myself, I find this to be kind of a 'vintage thirst trap' phenomenon, and mostly ignore it. I've tried plenty of vintages of things I love in their current iterations, and in my experience, if you like what you've got just enjoy it in the now; anything you buy at any price will smell synthetic and diluted when contrasted with memory's mythology.

Azzaro Pour Homme EDT opens with a strong projection of spicy, musky, mossy, purple floral, and leather notes. The opening is bold, classy, mature, and elegant. The lavender, anise, caraway, basil, oakmoss, and leather are the prominent opening notes. The bergamot and lemon are sharp, sweet but short-lived notes; as quickly as they come up, they start dissipating. The anise, caraway, and basil are the spicy notes, intense, and prominent; both the anise and caraway are more noticeable than the basil; their joint notes create a warm, spicy, green, and slightly sweet accord. The lavender is the purple floral accord, intense, sweet, bitter, and herbal. The leather works as a projecting accord, a note more inclined to the synthetic leather as opposed to the natural leather, musky but not animalic, dry, and heavily scented by the spicy notes. The oakmoss is the last of the featured notes, inky, earthy, bitter, mossy, and musky; the oakmoss gives the fragrance that classy and mature touch. The clary sage and iris are support notes. The clary sage enhances the greens, and the iris enhances the florals with a powdery and airy touch. The rest of the tones and there to provide support and group themselves into specific accords; the patchouli and vetiver add a green and herbaceous touch; the vetiver is more noticeable than the patchouli; the juniper berries, cedar, and cardamom are a faint fresh woody and spicy touch; the sandalwood is a soft sweet touch, but faint. The musk and tonka are just a whiff. The fragrance has a simple but noticeable opening to dry down change. The opening favors the brief citrus notes; they sharpen themselves, the spicy anise, caraway, and the purple lavender. As the fragrance dries down, the citrus notes will recede. The oakmoss and leather will develop, giving the fragrance a mossy, musky, and classy character. Finally, the strong initial projection will take a step down to moderate. Once Azzaro Pour Homme EDT has reached its full dry down, it can be summarized as a moderate projection, spicy anise, caraway, mossy oakmoss, purple floral lavender, and musky leather fragrance with green, sweet, and faint citrus accords. The fragrance feels aromatic, bold, classy, complex, earthy, elegant, exotic, expensive, formal, gentlemanly, green, heavy, herbaceous, high-quality, intense, leathery, masculine, mature, nicely-bended, resinous, rare, very spicy, warm, woody/mossy, and pleasant.

Oh god, I feel bad because I know this is a much beloved classic but I just can't get with Azzaro.

Anyone who gets me talking about fragrance knows that I am very much enamoured with old school classic mens frags, especially those forgotten drugstore colognes. I've tried a great many of them, and out of all of them, the gold standard is Stetson original. This is the one to which I compare all others.

Unfortunately, to me, Azzaro just smells like a cheap ripoff of Stetson, and while I realize it's an older fragrance by several years, to my nose, it's not right. The notes and the overall effect are not dissimilar, but the quality of ingredients is obviously lacking, and I would never choose to wear this on purpose. Yes, it smells masculine and classic in a way, but it also smells stale and dated. Not cool-retro, just out of step. Oh well.

It would seem that the few scents I have ever truly loved where first worn by a lover, a random encounter, or someone I longed for but could not have. Azzaro is one of those scents, and the first time it became known to me was with my first real love.

I met Marco while still in Art school in NYC. He was from Brazil and I from the hinterlands of a faraway no man's land. Aside from his Brazilian beauty, his intelligence, and his captivating way, he had the most evocative Portuguese accent to go with it. One night, in the late 80s a small group of us found our way to some upstairs bar on Christopher Street – sadly, the name escapes me. I was still very shy and timid back then and had the art of wall flowering down to a science. I can still remember how he walked up to me one night, sat down quietly beside me and asked me my name. Marco was not forceful, not intrusive, attractively polite, yet well centered and grounded – something hard to come across in those days. We made small talk over the next hour or so and when last call came, his roommate managed to talk the more rambunctious of our group into us all returning with them to their pad in Jersey for a late-night party.

A ride into Jersey in some unknown someone's car led to further drink, some porn, and drugs for those who dug that sort of thing. But as the morning sun rose and the last vestiges of night had been chased away, our group was teetering on the edge of dispersal. So, I was preparing to say good bye, when Marco gently reached for my hand and whispered in my ear,

"please stay."

I didn't need much coaxing even though I had no idea where I was, how I would make it back into the City when the time came, and if I really wanted to take that kind of crazy insane chance. I was only 21 at the time and not native to New York or it's ways. Some might have considered me a babe in the woods at the time and that would not have been all that far from the truth. Yet as coats, shoes, sneakers, and someone's jeans were passed out ot their owners, it appeared that I was the only one being asked to remain behind. Ahhhh, but those beautiful and present blue eyes, tanned skin, and strong European features, held me captive. And even though he was a few years older than I, he still possessed the quality of a teenager but with the self-possession of a man.

In any case, I didn't leave, . . . for two days.

I had found myself entranced, ensnared, and quickly in love with this Brazilian boy-man. His intoxicating cologne, and his gentle but self-assured manner sent me spinning into an abyss of hot, devil may care, soul wrenching love. And all my previous capabilities of rational reason and resistance vanished, poof! Gone!

Marcos and I lasted for nine months, the longest relationship my young self-had encountered up to that point. He was my first real love, always with his Azzaro – a potion that mixed with his body chemistry became as much a weapon against my better judgement as it was an addiction that drew me to him every weekend. Every weekend I rode that Port Authority bus out of Manhattan and into his arms and into his bed. I will always remember what it was to be held by him – the essence of his skin blending with that cologne. His Azzaro softly permeated him, and the air around us. And in my mind, will always be associated with the stuff young love and lust is made from

This is really nice. I just got a vintage bottle with the name printed "Loris Azzaro" on the lower front. After testing many fougeres of this type, I can say Azzaro Pour Homme is a classic that would please most people of all ages. I think this is up there with Quorum as an easy-to-like classic fougere barbershop-type cologne for men. One reason is that it's not heavy on one particular note, as most of the notes are noticeable and well blended. Especially the oakmoss, which gives it that classic masculine vibe I enjoy so much (which isn't so common in modern fragrances). I'm enjoying this blast from the past.

Funny how my two favorite classic masculine scents, this and Polo, were born the same year I was. 1978. If this doesn't scream dad to you, did you have a dad? Just go spray this on some guy. He's your dad now. He'll be happy to yell at you while you hold the flashlight and he's trying to drain the radiator on the truck. He's going to make terrific pancakes. And then teach you to ride a dirtbike. Might even offer you a smoke.

While my father never wore this, he should have. This was made for him. And I love carrying the torch. Some days I just want to smell like I walked out of the barbershop with a clean shave, fresh trim, and the leather in my 911 is going to be hot on my thighs from the short shorts I'm wearing, and that's just heaven.

I love the contrast in what i consider to be masculine vs your modern blue wave. The more I smell stuff like this the less I could give 1/4 of a shit about the blue wave of soap. I don't know how someone can smell this and still be interested in Door Sausage or Bleu de Bodywash. To each their own I suppose.

A timeless masculine classic.

So when you first spray Azzaro pour homme the first couple minutes remind me of a very expensive fragrence from the house of creed called viking. They are both barbershop scents and even though i think i prefer the lavandin in viking to the lavender in azzaro..the fact that a 30 dollar fragrence from 1978 reminds me of a creed that cost 600 bucks that came out in 2017 is a testiment to the quality and just how classy azzaro pour homme is. It is on the mt rushmore of barbershop scents for me. There are obviously differences between azzaro and viking. Azzaro uses star anise while viking using pink pepper. Azzaro uses basil and viking uses mint. Azzaro uses iris and viking uses rose. Azzaro uses oakmoss and leather while creed uses their patented ambergris to give the feel of a viking ship floating on water. If money is no issue go for the creed. But obviously azzaro is like the godfather of this fragrence catagory. They both give a very similar scent profile in the air. I am in my 30s and used viking first because i thought creed was a trend setter. And while i do like the scent i started hunting down babershop frags and found azzaro. I am not saying they are the same.. because after the first few minutes they take a different paths but they are cousins. I bought the vintage so my comparison is based on the package sold between 78 and the early 90s ... but my goodness what an experience. If you are a fan of the classics like i am becoming... at this price point this is a no brainer to add to your collection. Our fathers and grand fathers knew what a man should smell like. While i enjoy wearing the aventus of the world... this is something i love having in my rotation. Also on a side note i dont wear fragrences for compliments but i dont buy into the story that only grannies like this either. My wife and her 20 and 30 year old girlfriends all love it when i wear something classic like azzaro pour homme. I think the fact that most women have smelled this on their fathers or grand fathers makes scents like these very familiar and comforting to the type of women most men are trying to attract when they wear these kind of scents. Plus 99% of men in their 30s arent wearing this. They are wearing sauvage or blu de channel. So not only are you wearing something unique you are also wearing something familiar to women. Just my 2 cents of why i like to mix these classics into my rotation. Not to mention this is a proper fougere and an artifact of the history of the evolution of mens fragrence. Treat it as such and you will love it!

I'm not a fan at all of this, unless you're 40 or 50 or getting tired of all the fresh energetic citrus or dark and possibly spicy scents on the market and don't want to waste your money on the really difficult to wear $150+ niche scent that is trying to be like Mugler A*Men also known as one of the worst smelling colognes that are successful.

To me this is an out dated musk scent our fathers or grand parents would wear. It's warm, kind of bitter and a bit rough on the nose. Not migraine inducing strong such as Ed Hardy Skull and Roses thankfully. It does project surprisingly well for a cheaper scent and lasts a surprising amount of time but the first few minutes of spraying CAN be quite nice but of the 12 bottles on my shelf I think I've had a 30ml of it for 3 almost 4 years not even half used. I've went through 4 bottles since that. I say try something else by Azzaro. Wanted by night being my first choice or odds and ends that won't break the bank such as chrome, elixir or night time which I haven't tried the last 3 but the descriptions sound 100x better.

I love the look of the bottle and cap has this classiness to it. My favorite part about the bottle is how the logo etched into the glass. The color of the cologne justifies the scent for sure. I honestly can't believe how many notes are packed into this one scent. I thought Paco Rabanne Pure XS was huge. A cheap scent to try at least now like it is either Old Spice Dragon Blast but less sweet or perhaps Jovan Musk. My favorite "old man" scent as the internet would describe it is Paco Rabanne "Pour Homme' the green bottle that is like an older mans version of polo green by Ralph Lauren but Azzaro vs Pour Homme for my last comparison the dry down for Paco Rabanne Pour Homme where it settles on your skin or clothes is worth the strong soapy opening.

Is it easy to wear? Sure why not. It's not the hardest scent to pull off. I wouldn't want to wear this in school if I was 14 or 15 again, Not something for a date and at best you'd get a 50 year old dancing with you at a club. Hey the club probably won't judge! To me this is office wear, anything to do with suits where we want to be taken seriously. Expensive dinners, walks during the day, for boring parts of the day we don't care what we wear like a quick trip to the store or can't justify wasting a good bottle of cologne on. Would I buy it again? Not in a million years. I gave a second bottle of this I got in a Walmart clearance section away already. Thankfully it was in the single digits for this. I doubt this would get any complements if that's your thing. The only way I can see this selling is getting someones father or a much older family member a bottle for their birthday or Christmas.

The current version is nice and pleasant. It's also more aromatic and floral and a lot lighter than I expected. It's definitely not as strong as I prefer...on my third wear I sprayed on quite a bit so I could smell it better, but I barely noticed I was wearing it even so.

It's good, but I was hoping I'd love it the way I love even the new version of Aramis Tuscany, which was probably inspired by Azzaro and is one of my favorites -- Vintage Tuscany layers perfectly with the new Tuscany by the way. While I don't regret blind-buying this because it's pretty good, to be honest I would have passed on it if I'd been able to sample it first.

Looking forward to sampling vintage Azzaro one of these days...

I also have a vintage (Mid 80s) bottle. Stood the test of time as the scent is as fresh as it should be.

I also YSL Rive Gauche Homme Intense and in some ways it is similar in that it has a classic old school barbershop vibe.

Azzaro PH isn't dated, it's classic, timeless and an all round great fragrance. It doesn't scream but is strong enough and has good lasting power. Vintage can be had for a reasonable price if you're patient enough to wait for one. A few sellers online are trying to hike the prices as you'd expect but I got my 50ml and a Soap Bar for £40 which isn't bad.

l wore this along with the other classics like Polo Green, Aramis Classic, Aramis Devin, Paco Rabanne Pour Homme. Then l followed the trend of aquatic, tutti frutti floral gourmands for men. Recently during covid times l started to go back to these classics. This is one of the best, top 10 fougeres, top 10 men's fragrances and a personal favorite. After looking at some ads of Enrique Iglesias and Ian Somerhalder, l had to bring this back in my wardrobe. Though some reviews pointed out its present reformulation as disappointing, l still consider this a fantastic and classy scent and perhaps even the best male fragrance in the world. Thanks to the House of Azzaro for the two ads from a music superstar and a tv stylish vampire character that took me back to this cologne that l enjoyed before. Now l have it again as well as the other four. Feels like the 80's again. The perfect cologne for men!

Received a sample from Fragrance X. I liked this a lot and was happy to find such a creative fougere, featuring aromatics and woods that complement the lavender and tonka. The colors I got were pale purple and a mint green. Most of the colognes I've tried that skew super masculine (based on this site, I mean) are a fair amount "darker" w/ bitter spices but this finds a really nice balance so the cedar adds a fresh breeziness instead of making you feel like you're inside a piece of furniture. I could notice the anise and sandalwood too. I'd wear this again and would recommend it to people (not just men) looking for an out of the ordinary uplifting and aromatic fougere.

I used to love this, very sexy warm, ambery fragrance with a nice smooth spicy hit.
Delighted to find that Azzaro Wanted by Night is very similar.
I used to pop this on when 18, and my two best mates, Antaeus and Aramis on a night out - surprised we could breathe in the car!

To me, it is a typical masculine fragrance. I find no similarity with PRPH(Paco Rabanne pour homme). Azzaro is better smelling than PRPH.
It has a good longevity.

i love this one

One of the all time greats. Still amazing after all these years. Azzaro Pour Homme is still to this day, one of the most perfect male fragrances ever created. A solid work of art. This stuff is so good you will constantly be putting your nose up to where you sprayed, causing nose blindness before you know it. But rest assured, it is still projecting hours later! Highest honor and respect for this beautiful historic fragrance.
