Angélique Noire by Guerlain is a Amber Floral fragrance for women and men. Angélique Noire was launched in 2005. The nose behind this fragrance is Daniela (Roche) Andrier. Top notes are Angelica, Pear and Pink Pepper; middle notes are Jasmine and Caraway; base notes are Angelica, Vanilla and Cedar.

For the event of opening of renovated main boutique La Maison Guerlain (The House of Guerlain) at 68 Avenue des Champs-Elysées, Paris, Guerlain launched exclusive line of three perfumes – L \'Art et la Matière (The Art and (raw) Material, a pun after the French expression L\'Art et la Manière – the art and manners). Three famous noses were invited to work on the perfumes using the highest quality materials. The perfumes were launched in 2005.

Angélique Noire is the third fragrance of the series, created by Daniela Andrièr. It was an attempt to reproduce the famous compositions of the house. Sweet and strong beginning with spices and piquant freshness of bergamot is mixing with milky bitterness of almond and vanilla notes. Unusual harmony of the fresh bergamot and sweet vanilla is a trademark of classical compositions of Guerlain. Spicy harshness of the beginning is contrasting creamy and sweet base which includes mildly spicy and sugary notes of angelica.

Unmistakable sophisticated and luxe!
Green vanilla, refined and soft. Unique.

The similar perfumes mentioned above are on point! This is Eau Duelle EDT by Diptyque and L’Instant EDP by Guerlain together, elevated, blended to perfection.
If you like both of those perfumes there is almost zero possibility of you not enjoying Angelique Noire. It’s stunning really, but imo too expensive for what it is.

I have had quite the love affair with Angelique Noire. I am very hit or miss with vanilla fragrances. For me, vanilla has to be unique and exciting for me to feel passionate about it. Don't get me wrong, vanilla is one of my favorite notes, but I much prefer it when it takes a backseat in fragrances. I love vanilla when it has a supporting role, adding a boozy quality, warmth, and decadence that only vanilla can bring. This is one of the only fragrances where vanilla has a starring role that I adore. Yes, this is mainly a vanilla, but on my skin, the green angelica note is so prominent for hours upon hours. It's vanilla laced with angelica, and it's gorgeous. It has a slightly bitter, grassy aroma to it, making the vanilla very unique and earthy. It reminds me of something that a woodland fairy would wear. It's no surprise that I love this as much as I do because this isn't my first foray into green vanillas. The likes of Aura by Mugler, Manifesto by YSL, Poets of Berlin by Vilhelm, and Wild Vanilla Orchid by Floral Street have all captivated me. This, to me, shines above them all. This is the queen of green vanillas everywhere. The gorgeous Guerlain vanilla and green angelica note are married beautifully here. Some people complain about longevity. I personally don't have this issue. It easily lasts all day on me.

Until now, I've only had samples and decants of Angelique Noire. I sprayed myself a few times with a sample eight hours ago, and she's still there but has only just started to quiet down and become a skin scent. After I sprayed this earlier in the day, I went about my day and felt so absolutely madly in love with this fragrance. I decided to place an order for a 6.7 oz. bottle. That's how much I love her. And yes, it was a pricey and indulgent purchase, but this fragrance is one of the great loves of my life as far as fragrances go. I've procrastinated getting a bottle long enough. I can't imagine ever not loving this fragrance. I know that a lot of people compare Angelique Noire to Eau Duelle EDT by Diptyque, and I definitely do see the resemblance, and I do wish that I preferred it, if I'm honest, because it can be found for much cheaper online on discount sites. However, my skin and nose both absolutely loathe saffron, and Eau Duelle unfortunately has saffron in it.

I have a large collection, and I've gotten my nose on many fragrances, but this is in my absolute top ten. I have consistently loved this fragrance for a while now. I've recently sampled most of the L’Art & La Matière line for the second time, and there are definitely a few others from the line that I want to eventually get for my collection, but Angelique Noire was the only one that I absolutely had to have immediately. Some of the others that I really like from the line can wait. If money was no object, I'd obtain a few others from the L’Art & La Matière line right now, but I have determined that those could wait a while longer. Angelique Noire is just very special, in my opinion.

daffodilsandcoffee

When I finish my bottle of Eau Duelle EDT I'll need a bottle of Angelique Noir. They're both similar in vibe and fill the same function in my collection — a year-round non-basic vanilla with interesting facets. I love the addition of pear and the green note from the Angelica. If you like Eau Duelle, I'd imagine this would appeal to you.

DiscoPolga

I was surprised to discover this is a vanilla scent, as the notes suggest it would be green. It's sweet from start to finish, with a little bit of angelica mixed in. None of the fragrances from the line really wowed me and this is no exception, especially for the price.

noneya88

I wish the greenness of the opening stuck around but this basically dries down to a less Tuberosey Velvet Vanilla. The projection is abysmal too, so while I'll continue to enjoy my decant I can't justify a fb.

The Scentimentalist

It does smell like L'Instant EDP but with a different, green dusty opening and a higher quality vanilla and no gardenia. At first I questioned spending a fortune on a higher-end L'Instant but it's grown on me.

Raquel73

Between this and Cuir Beluga, I'll take the Cuir Beluga. I've several perfumes from Guerlain's Materie line, I like Angelica very much at the opening, but the drying on my skin is L'Instant A dirty baby diaper. In summer the dirty diaper is even more accentuated.
I have now bought a bottle of Tonka Imperiale, as it is going to be discontinued. The next one will be a bottle of Cuir Beluga. I'm glad so many people enjoy Angelica, but for me it's a pass.

Forever favourite vanilla 🤤

Angélique Noire

When I was at Guerlain Counter, I have chance to sniff Angélique Noire and I quite like it alot.
The clean vanilla with mils musk with support from Angelice resulting in Angle Ethereal like fragrance from the house.

I enjoy, and has quite a good longevity on my skin when it reach 5-6 hours post wear, I still sniff strong sweet Angelica profile that feel so clean and not overly sweet.

However, I decided to go with Cuir Beluga. I know it is infinity tossing a coin between these two when it has the total difference profile.

This might be unpopular opinion but I think “Cuir Beluga” remains most true to Guerlain’s DNA.

It is almost like total mixture of Guerlainade effect, only guerlain’s leather can do that.

I know I ranting about this a few time in few last review, but people buy certain fragrance for difference propose for me, I want one remains most true so guerlain’s profile. In that case it leads to “Cuir Beluga” (even it is blends by Oliver Polge not in house, but he remains most true in this creation)

While “Angelic Noire” smell so divine and etherial in realm of clean girls esthetic, it is still her own DNA (the clean fragrance with Guerlain’s vanilla) but I believe this fragrance is blue print to late green vanilla creation like new rendition of Chanel “Jersey” in EDP or even Celine’s dna.

I believe when you buy certain fragrance, you have the reason to buy it. I own jersey already and I’m not digging in this profile. So it not end up in my purchase list.

But as fragrance creation & scent profile this is truly beautiful.
This one a good one for me too.
Might got FB.

Featherblossom

Starts off very green, eventually settling down into a musky vanilla with almost woody, coffee-esque undertones.

I got this as a sample and I really like it! It develops nicely and is well-blended and smooth. Not sure that I need another vanilla right now, but it's on my maybe list for a full bottle if I ever do!

Forbiddenjade

On me this is singing angelica and vanilla. SUAVE!!!!

verzosa

Oh, I like this! I've been very curious about this for a long time, but never gotten the chance to test it. I wish this perfume was more linear as I enjoy the dewy green notes in the beginning. As it dries down it becomes reminiscent to Duelle. I still prefer this over Duelle as I find Angélique Noire more dense, but the vanilla is still a little too much for my liking.

fangpili

Second review for this. This is one of those rare occasions where a tester for a newer incarnation of this perfume is far more enjoyable on my skin than a vintage bottle. The vintage was a nauseating mossy vanilla bomb. With the modernised version, it's still heavy on vanilla and Angelica but, applied lightly, is unusual and slightly addictive, lighter but retaining a vintage feel. The sillage and projection are also still enormous on me but this has lifted the scent from a dislike to a like and possibly this will grow on me. I also find this to be reminiscence of a mixture of Mugler's Aura & Agent Provocateur.

yazzakasbah

Angelica Vanilla is what I get mostly. But it has a sweetness, probably pear, cedar, amber. It's very well blended in to something that hints of flowers but is actually more fresh fruity with a subtle smooth vanilla. In this lovely blend the ingredients lose their importance somewhat.

In short: a sparkling fresh fruity smooth masterful blend.
The noire translates in to warmth or depth. A contrast to the fruit and flowers which gives it its sparkling character.

Female, very high quality, uplifting, cheerful, fresh with extra depth.

Hazelnuts

I must have over 100 bottles of perfume and have given twice as many away. Fragrance is definitely my addiction. Guerlain Angelique Noir is my all time fave. I never tire of it. On me it is a lovely warm honeyed vanilla with Angelica in the starring role. Smelling it makes me happy and it lasts forever on my skin. I have received so many compliments while wearing this perfume. I smell the jasmine in it slightly but on my skin it the vanilla and Angelica combination that l smell the most. Woodiness merges with the Angelica and vanilla in the dry down and the whole experience of this fragrance is wonderful to me.

waswas1717

It smells like a freshly prepared dish of Tabbouleh. The parsley has just been chopped and the lemon squeezed on top. Invigorating just like having a fresh cold serving of that salad.

Awesome to smell and sniff.. but usability as a perfume is questionable to me.

Ah, the juices coming outta the salad.. mouth watering.

nikkapuspita

Loveeeee it so much it's so well blended. I did not get the pear but melon on the opening. Really pricey compared to its longevity, it's gone within one hour in my skin, maybe I'm just unlucky. I might score a bottle next year when Guerlain will release 50 ml bottle to add my collection. But will re-think for 200 ml bottle :)

bjorksattorney

I saw the notes/reviews on this and ran to Neiman Marcus after work to try it out. Beautiful bright shimmery pepper/pear opening but it quickly dried down to a very sweet and bland vanilla on me. I didn't get any cedar and no muskiness. Just candy-sweet vanilla, almost like a body splash. I want to try it again because the opening is so nice and I want that cedar/vanilla note! But with the pricetag, I'm glad I didn't love it.

chanelnumerocinq

I don't know angelica flowers but this smells green, fresh soapy clean floral with marshmalllow fluffy vanilla. Smells pastel hued and playfully Rococo in sensibility whilst smelling modern and clean. Cute and girly without being cloying or immature. Long lasting.

Emera1d

One of the nicest vanillas I have tried. It's starts like a green vanilla, but once the angelica calms down it becomes a rich and balanced vanilla without being too sweet. As expensive as it is I am considering a bottle. Sillage and longevity are really good too! It is definitely sweeter than AA Bosca Vanilla and I prefer it to all 3 of the Shalimar limited Editions. Could be a fantastic signature scent.

qianqian

A timeless classic piece from the Guerlain house. My first purchase of this line is Neroli Outrenoir, but when I tried this sample today, I'm totally conquered.

Now I'm really struggling to decide on which one in the line will be my 2nd purchase, when I have the new year's budget for frags...

Mc1995

Gorgeous. And I love all things Guerlain. But it’s very very much Kenzo Flower meets Rochas Absolu to my nose. And those are very affordable. Don’t get me wrong, that Guerlain quality is absolutely there. I feel like Diptyque Eau Duelle would be like the more ‘Pour Homme’ version

sabsizzle

After reading reviews here, I went into Neiman Marcus thinking I wouldn't like this fragrance. In fact, I almost didn't even pick up the bottle to smell it!! Well it turns out that this one is my favorite out of all of them. Im thankful I still had a wrist left to spray it on because otherwise I feel I would've missed out big time.

I dont really know how to describe this scent... It is sweet, but not too sweet... Has a bit of spice, but not too much... it just smells pleasant on me. I cant stop smelling myself. It also gives me a slight dark/witchy feel, if that even makes sense lol, I LOVE it! I have not smelled anything like this before. I see people saying it smells similar to Eau Duelle, which I recall smelling in the past but I feel that one burned my nostrils a bit more and didn't settle as nicely on my skin, it was a sharp vanilla. Anyways, I am going to buy this fragrance, I feel it is a need. Then, when it will be acceptable for me to buy another, I will get Neroli Outrenoir.

Perfume_madness

Lol I'm laughing uncontrollably because its so good!!!! I just got it in the mail. My God where has this been all my life! I didn't get a big enough bottle!!!

ADNisHere

This perfume makes me feel itchy and nauseous. I don't know how I've been hearing all this praise about it since I started taking an interest in perfumes. I don't know if the new version is different from the old one or not, but since I love Guerlain so much, I hope they find a solution with this because everything I smell Currently is a green smell mixed with the smell of bergamot peel, and its darkness makes me completely repulsed by it. In 2017, I remember that I tried this perfume, and although I do not remember the smell, I did not have this bad feeling at all.

fangpili

I have only worn this in colder months but Angélique Noire is a heavy, dull musty vanilla scent on me that has immense longevity but unfortunately becomes even more dull on dry down. I was expecting a mysterious and very ''different'' scent, as I have many Guerlain perfumes. Perfumes are acquired tastes. If it helps, my Guerlain favourite is Apres L'ondee and my least favourite is Mitsouko. This is one I would not even wear casually.

loliirain

This perfume undergoes such a strange transformation in me. It starts off a little green, and powdery, almost dusty. About five minutes in the vanilla begins to shine through and it develops this sort of vintage quality that reminds me of a watered down gaultier’s classique for women mixed with a touch of Mancera velvet vanilla. Perhaps it’s the Jasmine in here that gives off a slight bubblegum aroma. I feel like there must be some notes missing from the fragrance description because I swear that this has strong orange blossom notes that overtake the jasmine. It’s a well done, elegant vanilla fragrance and I can totally see why it’s so well loved. Unfortunately it didn’t work on me. I’d recommend trying out a sample first, definitely not blind buy safe.

This past summer, I was visiting Providence, RI with my girlfriend. As we were walking up and down the streets, we stumbled into a quaint antique shop, something typical of the area. Almost immediately we noticed - among thousands of knick-knacks - perfume bottles scattered about the store. Most were empty, but one or two had a few milliliters left inside. Luckily, one of those two was a Guerlain in a beautiful vintage bottle. I held it sideways and read it's name - "Angélique Noire". I had never heard of it, nor smelt it, but I promptly purchased it for the humble price of $15.

Until tonight, I had almost completely forgot about the bottle. It was a mild night, about 65 degrees and crisp, clear fall air. I thought it appropriate to give this a test drive. Upon initial spray, I am blown away. This evokes the feeling I chase in perfumery - the revelation of mastery.

The opening is powerful, green, and vanillac. The angelica lends an invigorating, green, sweetness to the composition which cuts through the deep and decadent vanilla in the base. Like lovers, it is the most perfect harmony of two opposing qualities complimenting one another to create something truly incredible. It is very apparent that this was made with the utmost love for the house of Guerlain and, in a sense, wholly exhibits all of the best qualities of the house in one fragrance.

Both projection and longevity are above average, though my bottle is the older version (circa 2005) and has had ample time to macerate into a dark, ambery juice. It is certainly feminine leaning, but remains thoroughly unisex to me. I wear this as a prototypical masculine-man and often get compliments, so don't be afraid to wear it if it speaks to you. In fact, the floral fragrances I wear (Portrait of a Lady by Frederic Malle comes to mind as well) are often the ones that women compliment the most, so be ambitious and simply wear what you love.

While the prices have climbed, if the quality and smell are the same in newer bottles I would say that this is full bottle worthy. In the meantime, I will hoard my few drops like liquid gold and be thankful that I struck gold at all.

Nish97

This was a love at first sniff! I blind bought this after watching a few videos from trusted fragrance reviewers and good lord is this good!

Hands down, one of the best if not the best vanilla fragrances out there! The vanilla in here is done extremely well. I find it unisex, leaning a tad bit feminine in the dry down.

I screamed as soon as I smelt this cause it was nothing like I had imagined it to be. It’s a unique soft-spicy green vanilla. Although it opens green and ever so slightly fresh, it becomes warm and cosy as it dries down without turning overly sweet or juvenile. It is absolutely stunning and I can’t get enough of this. Smells so classy and elegant. The performance is great as well. All you need is a few sprays and you’re good all day/night.

gedlive

Some fragrances, when I first tried, I laughed at how unwearable they felt; then they became favorite fragrances.

The opposite happened with Angelique Noire. I was very impressed at first and brought a 100 ml of the new version, and I have a 10 ml splash. I will be selling them on eBay next week.
It is very dirty, as in an animalic funky way.
They try to hide that there is a heavy synthetic musk present with cummin spice I believe.
It produces a very sour body oder smell, on my skin.
I have some niche animalic fragrances that are done in a very classy way. Here it just seems too overt or obvious.

The original Angelique Noire is not this way. It's cleaner and more pristine.

Greendoll2

Having never smelled angelica in real life yet a great curiousity towards it, I am trying to get a grasp on its qualities by smelling as many angelica fragrances as I can find. Naturally, I first had to try Guerlain's take on it. Since I am new to angelica it was difficult for me to ascertain where the note started and ended in Angelique Noire. I got whispers of vegetal notes on first sniff, but on me, this fragrance is an overdose of vanilla followed by cedar. I could detect something slightly indolic, revealing some jasmine but truly--so so much vanilla. It does smell a lot like Eau Duelle but I like that one more as it's less cloying. I was also reminded of Memo's Marfa, and upon looking at its notes saw vanilla and cedar there as well. I'm dissappointed in this fragrance, but I will say it lasts forever and has great sillage. I can smell it on my skin 24 hours later even after a shower!

SSolstice

Angélique Noire has me smitten. To me it’s an expertly blended herbal vanilla, a pair I didn’t even think I’d enjoy together! But it emanates a quiet opulence while staying cozy and comforting. I find it feminine-leaning and a stunner for colder weather. I’ll be rationing my little decant all winter.

Heathermarie8617

The first time I tried this I must admit, I had to wash it off right away. Fast forward to today, I was going through my samples and decided to give it another try. I was pleasantly surprised with how nice this smells this time around. Though I won't be purchasing a full bottle, I can appreciate the fragrance. I pick up mostly vanilla but I can also smell the other notes, too "floating" in and out. In short, this smells like a "green" vanilla. (No surprise there haha). It's pretty, but not for me. :)

Bit0sugar

I enjoy this scent in the cooler months. When I first smelt it I wasn’t too fond but then later I kept smelling my hand and couldn’t stop. It is very well blended and I can’t pick out too many notes, can definitely smell the vanilla, like a vanilla extract. It reminds me of the egg wash for French toast.

cyclone1391

I'm not familiar with Angelica but this gives a green banana vibe, then jasmine, and a teeny tiny bit of vanilla. Very cloying on my skin. Pass

markvel

Absolutely gorgeous!
I couldn't decide for an hour which one should I purchase this one or Cuir Beluga and then in the end I picked Angélique Noire. (Couldn't buy both because of the expensive price point)
Fresh, powdery and slightly green Vanilla blended to perfection.

Tshahb

This is a beautiful scent, but the name baffles me.

It's more of a sweet pear and vanilla affair (non gourmand) than angélica, which plays second or third fiddle to my nose. As for Noir, nope, there's nothing dark or black here at all.

Il Nanni

I got it available for decanting. Pm me if interested

Aelis

Stunning.
If you're afraid, as I was, of the greenness some reviews mention - don't be.
The vanilla is immediately noticeable in the form of fine, sweet powder. The green and herbal part of the composition is not even perceivable as such to me, but it's obvious there is something slightly austere mixing with the vanilla sweetness, polishing and elevating it. The opening is still quite sweet overall, but never sugary. The green bitterness, pear, florals and spices are all seamlessly intertwined with the vanilla backbone, which never becomes edible-smelling or heavy. Instead, it remains translucent, light, breathable.
The drydown is as beautiful as the opening - sweet, but wonderfully cold, silky smooth vanilla.

sblades138

Deliciously creamy-boozy-vanilla with gorgeously sweet angelique that adds a spicy-musky-mallow to the boozy vanilla base. I'm not getting much of the fresh "green" I think I'm supposed to be getting: it goes rich and dark on me very quickly. I find Angelique Noire simultaneously sultry and cuddly, which is interesting to me. Usually I find my favorite fragrances to be one or the other. My husband jokingly refers to them as my "lingerie perfumes," which tend to be more smoky, leathery, skanky-animalic, tobacco ones, and my "flannel drawstring pajama pants," which are my cozy vanilla-musks and florals. To say he has a Pavlovian response to the first category is an understatement LOL. I'd say I've never smelled anything like Angelique Noire before because it truly feels special and smells so unique, but the dry down has that distinctly Guerlain boozy-vanilla found in several others from L'Art et La Matiere. Actually, now that I'm thinking about it, I'm surprised benzoin isn't listed as a note because I get the distinct impression of it being there regardless of whether it technically is or not. This has become an immediate favorite from L'Art et La Matiere for me, possibly displacing my beloved Bois d'Armenie. It's a good thing we fragrance folk don't have to choose one favorite of anything, right?

For those asking about reformulation: it's hard to say because older bottles of Guerlain get richer with time, and I want to be fair. With that said, the older tall rectangular bottles are friggin' amazing and better across the board to my nose. I mean, the newer bottled stuff is lovely as well and clearly the same composition, but, just as is the case with Bois D'Armenie and Spiritueuse Double Vanille, the older is so much richer and more complex, and it lasts forever on my skin unlike the juice in the newer bottles. I had my husband test-sniff, and his reaction to the newer sample I got was, "That's really pretty! I like it!" Then I received a decant from the original rectangular bottle a few weeks later, just to see which version I wanted to purchase a full bottle of, and he goes, "Ohhhhh...that is niiiiiiice!" and flashed me a devilish grin. Yep. You can safely assume which bottle I decided to buy, and my husband is currently a very happy man. ; )

ackeyjopes

Does anybody know if the 2021 version is the same?

honeyedflora

Delicate vanilla pods with green/sour tones. Later it verges more towards a sugary, crystalline vanillin-like smell, but it never becomes overly sweet. I don't detect any fruitness from the pear but maybe there are some floral nuances in the background. It's lovely but absolutely not worth the price.

Sheherazad

Sparkly green opening w/ slightly sweet, icy sharp, freshly bitter Angelica. Surprised how much I like the bitter bite. Becomes a juicy pear in dry down. I’m not getting any vanilla. At all. If I concentrate really hard, I get a smidge of pink pepper. Cedar makes an appearance in the mid, followed by a softly fragrant unlisted orchid. This is an exciting, unique composition. Haven’t smelled anything like it & love smelling like it. 😊

*Update: The vanilla finally came. And it’s yummy!

winonahb

After about 20 minutes, I'm trying to decide whether I love this or am in love with it. The layers of green and spicy notes strike me as some of what I wish Spiritueuse Double Vanille and other vanilla-rich scents had. It keeps me coming back to guess what the notes are, both because they are well-blended and because they form an interesting combination.

It lasts fairly long, though after about six hours, it only hung on as a ghost of itself on my skin. That's on a hot day, though. It should have eternal lasting power during mild weather. The drydown has less of the green notes but all of the delicious vanilla and alcohol-related notes. I'll try it again before committing to a full bottle. The smallest size is more than I've ever paid for any size bottle. It'll be worth it if it's as good as I think it is so far.

Breathing in the Wake

This is a new love. So regal, so classy. I was tempted to reserve it for special occasions but definitely want to get more wear out of the scent. It deserves its time in the sunlight (or moonlight). It's a must-have for fragrance lovers in search of unique vanillas that are sure to bring lots of attention and compliments.

amanda0727

I don't know what got into me (FOMO due to crazy price increases) but I bought the 200ml bottle of this along with SDV from Neiman Marcus and today I doused myself with this, and I am usually an undersprayer. I cant help but feel underwhelmed. It is a nice green shampoo-y scent but I can barely smell this after blasting 10 sprays on myself. Hope this gets stronger as it sits but boy do I feel cheated. I am sure the old bottles were stronger. Iris Torrefie remain the winner for me in this overpriced line.

deliciousX

Stunning blend. I just got 5ml sample from the Old bottle of Angelique Noire (I don't know if the juice changed with the new bottle) and it's a sweet lovely feminine elegance.
It's not nearly the same fragrance, but if you love the richness and sweetness of "Love don't be shy", I guess you would probably love this green but creamy vanilla.
It's romanic, dreamy, beautiful for the spring, fall, winter and maybe sexy summer nights. 💜

GoldenSpiral

There are very few fragrances that made my eyes roll back when I first smelled it, but this is one of them. It is just stunning. Wonderful balance of sweet vanilla tempered with a greenness that lends just the slightest sourness and rounded out by delicate floral/woody notes. It's a vanilla that is somehow not edible or too sweet, just rich and beautiful. The composition is so compelling, despite all the 100s and 100s of vanilla-centric perfumes, this stands out and I believe I have not smelled anything else like it. One of my favorites.

I first smelled Angélique Noire four years ago at La Signature in Disneyworld. Inside the perfumery, I swear she smelled just like bananas and lemongrass so when I sprayed her at home and was enveloped by fresh, creamy vanilla, I was astounded. It is undoubtedly a fragrance with many subtle layers; but any note besides vanilla, angelica, and pink pepper is lost on my nose. The greenery that is so sharp to some is very faint to me; vanilla is consistently the domineering presence. This perfume has amazing sillage and longevity; she also catches on fabrics really well. It feels the most natural to wear Angélique Noire as a luxury during the cooler months; but I have found a light spritz in the midst of the spring-summer humidity emphasizes the cedar, making her earthier and pleasant even in the heat. I enjoy her year-round :)!

Deliciously bitter, creamy, unique vanilla.
I'm really picky about vanilla, and hate when it's too sweet and too sticky. This iteration of vanilla is gorgeously unique, barely sweet (more creamy and luxurious), and the angelica gives it this deliciously bitter kick.

Because its fairly rich, probably not the first thing I'd reach for as a summer scent, but the angelica does make it passable in summer. Versatile and unisex.
Ugh. Love it to death. My favourite vanilla ever.

Longevity: moderate
Projection: strong

wowoweee

this smells so good it’s insane. the opening is bright green + juicy pear with a slight shampoo undertone. it takes time to settle but once it does a dreamy vanilla mixes in to create an utterly captivating fragrance. you won’t be able to stop sniffing your wrist. somewhat soft projection but that’s part of the refined beauty. the vanilla has incredible longevity on skin and becomes the fanciest cake batter scent. WOW! best thing i’ve smelled in a while.

I always thought masterpiece perfume is something that have beast SPL,they're loud and present. But I changed my mind, sometimes masterpiece can be simple, poised, something you could enjoy easily. Angélique Noire is one of them. It's nothing over the top,it's unique, calm, graceful but still have twist on it..it's not just vanilla.its not sweet it's green vanilla, like you crushed any leaves with vanilla, and it's not bitter green more fresh green than bitter ..that's Angélique Noire to me.its always worth the price if u love something

PerfumePixie87

Cannot comment on the performance as I haven’t given this a proper road-test yet. But upon first impressions this is delightful and quite unlike anything I’ve smelled before. The combination of a bitter, green angelica with clean, soapy jasmine with a burst of juicy pear and warming vanilla custard is rather unique. It is airy, lady-like and lightly sweetened. I enjoy the juxtaposition between the green angelica with the creamy vanilla. If the performance is up to scratch for the price I’d like to own this. It strikes the right balance between crowd pleasing and sophisticated and would make a lovely signature. I keep craving this.

perfumejunkie77

Simply stunning. There's this perfect dance happening between the green Angelica notes and the warm Guerlain Vanilla—like the most perfect in-sync tango dance ever. But it's not just a sweet side of vanilla, it's floral too. Like Orchid Vanilla flower. I get a creamy white flower haze surrounding it ever so gently. I really don't understand people saying it doesn't last or doesn't have sillage. Loud perfumes are tacky to me, sorry. This is elegant and restrained but also has lasting power. If you want a cheap, screaming beast there are tons of discount celeb fragrances out there.

amanda0727

This is not nearly as green as reviews make it out to be lol. Very mass pleasing vanilla, I can't see many hating this. Way less challenging than say, Ani by Nishane. Opens very sweet, definitely get the sweetness of the pear and maybe a hair of green-ness lol from the angelica. Then the jasmine comes thru, not indollic at all. I also get the pink pepper and along with the vanilla, it makes me think of Rouge Smoking a bit, but less sweet. Nothing too complex or mindblowing, but it really does smell goooood. I can see vanilla lovers going Ga Ga over this one. Overall a mass pleasing scent, for those afraid of trying due to the "green" notes (lol), don't be.

Update: ok i was trying to figure out why this was so nostalgic to me then it hit me that this smells like a shampoo i used when i was young. Also performance is indeed dismal.

Update2: gave a full wear today and yes all i can think of is shampoo/soap. Makes sense because Daniela Roche is known for her soapy clean scents. Not FB worthy for me.

I do not own Angelique Noire. However, Julianna's Perfumes has a perfume called Red Carpet Affair that is inspired by Angelique Noire as mentioned on their website....and is just so beautiful and strong. A herbaceous, green, vibrant vanilla scent. Just stunning.

Hannahaija

A masterpiece of a fragrance! It opens to such a green, freshly cut grass scent, then evolves into the most intoxicating and comforting vanilla.
I think this can be worn all year round as its quite a fresh-green vanilla.

CallMeT__

Truly exceptional! One of the best fragrances I’ve ever smelled. I love everything about this perfume, the green and the sweet. The vanilla satisfies the glutton part of my brain, while the angelica brings out a quiet elegance. This will be my wedding scent whenever I get married. Masterpiece.

Il Nanni

I got it available for decanting. Pm me if interested

JasKiew

Beautiful Scent.
Mildly spiced, fresh and green, with creamy vanilla
Masterpiece
But it's sits well on skin, doesn't projects well. Longetivy is there 6-8hrs on skin

Xela_529

This is a MASTERPIECE. Truly one of the best perfumes out there. It’s elegant & refined without smelling too mature. The combination of angelica and vanilla blows my mind away every time!

If you like green vanillas this is definitely a safe blind buy. I don't get the comparison to Mancera Velvet Vanilla. Mancera can't compete with this one. If you're debating which option to get, definitely go with Guerlain, you won't regret it!

Tee22

I got a sample of this and it is beautiful. That green note is so unique and it eventually blends well into the vanilla and become a beautiful scent. I find the dry down very similar to Goutal, Nuit et Confidences. However, the performance is very, very poor! I got about an hour or 2 out of it, and I sprayed heavy. Disappointed by the performance, not sure if this is because it is a sample. Would love to hear from anyone who has a bottle of it, as I'm really interested in buying a full bottle, but not if it only lasts for 1-2 hours.

lmnsvgz

A very very unique perfume. Smells quite medicinal due to the combination of notes but it is likeable. Not easy to wear though. Very green, very venillic, very medicinal.

Advaitaforever

This hits the right circuit in my brain.

GizPop

One of the most beautiful perfumes on the market. I think it kind of gets lost between the many hypes and new releases but it is an absolute masterpiece of the highest quality and surely a must have for vanilla lovers. A little green, a little vegetal, a floral vanilla of elegance and grace that actually makes me a little emotional, as it seems timeless, classic, like an instant highlight of the most beautiful moments of an entire life, melancholic and all.

Cascadia

Reminds so much of the frozen ice cream bar called a “Dreamsicle” : orangey vanilla creamy deliciousness with that lush, orchestral Guerlain touch, of course. I adore this scent!

iszzieanna

A super herbal, almost hyperrealistic green opening. The sharp Angelica is grass like and in your face. I don’t get much pear or jasmine. After the opening, the vanilla really starts to meld with the green notes. Eventually the musk also takes over, turning this into a floral, powdery vanilla scent with slight touches of the green from the opening. I hated the green opening, until I loved it.

maneki_neko

A stupefyingly vegetal vanilla. It's full-throat green, a cool wet forest atop an almost marshmallowy vanilla. A delightfully peculiar marriage that kind of reminds me of another curious green/sweet-and-cozy composition: Must de Cartier.

eldotjay123

You have to really like Angelica and Jasmine to appreciate this one. Because those florals are very strong here. Leans very feminine, and if like me you hate flowery florals, this is a pass. Not blind by safe (my review is of the original 75ml formulation). Performance is very average too. Leaves a scent trail - not a scent trail I want to smell like however.

eatingsea

Angelique Noire is one of those rare scents that struck me from first sniff as a true love. It's the fragrance that made me crave and seek out angelica as a note in perfume. Nothing else comes close in the "green vanilla" subcategory. This is the one by which to measure all others. Eau Duelle only wishes it could live up to this type of beauty.

ChanelBaddie

This is a baddie fragrance, if you don’t like this scent you’re not a baddie

Lyric82

Ever since my first time ever trying this fragrance, it absolutely blew me away. Guerlain really and truly knows how to do vanilla like no other. And in this beauty, the vibe is very sophisticated. The way the green and herbal notes play off of the sweet, perfect vanilla is nothing short of magical. This is special. This is amazing.

Dixieland Delight

40 plus guy. This is one of my favorite frags and one of the best things I've ever smelled.

raqketa

i see why people love this. i also think the green / spicy / vegetal combo just isn’t my jam. my skin amplifies the caraway and it ruins this fragrance for me.

A_Ferrera

Truly a beautiful fragrance but this should be called mémoire d'une odeur!

Something about this reminds me of baby blankets and warm hugs, the performance is not quite as expected for the price that Guerlain is asking for and this goes for so many of the fragrances from this collection.

I got a bottle because of the cord that strikes somewhere in my hippocampus...but it won't be the one which I will wear outside, I just know that the wind will just devour this and by the time I get to my destination all I'll be left with is a soft scent of powdery vanilla - the best parts of this fragrance would have been lost to the wind.

Best I wear this at home.

ahmed_mfr_taha215

One of the best green vanilla I have ever smelt.

ATC

Angélique Noire Guerlain Is a lovely blend of fruity, musky vanilla and a trace of oud. It is soft, inoffensive and gentle, and seems to fit most occasions. It does not project too well on me, but it does feel elegant and comfortable when I wear it.

Ferra_Verto

Gorgeously green powdery vanilla bomb, a little herbal & vegetal, but it works very well in contrast with that classic Guerlain vanilla.
Very long-lasting (12+ hrs), leaves a lovely scent trail. Oddly enough I'm always in a turtleneck when I wear this scent, and I like to spray this scent on it directly so it really sticks with me.
Best suited in cool/cold weather.

Distantspring

Green vanilla buds...
Though Shalimar remains my firm favourite, I enjoy a lot of the L'Art et la Matiere vanillas (including Spiritueuse Double Vanille and Cuir Beluga, both of which are also very special) but I think Angelique Noire is actually the best composed of these newer releases. I find when a perfume is persistently, uncompromisingly sweet I get olfactory fatigue easily and lose the ability to smell the perfume. Here, the vanilla is cut through with a fresh, musky, lightly herbal angelica note as a beautiful contrast. Much like the role bergamot plays in Shalimar, the angelica gives the rest of Angelique Noire something to "bounce off", it provides a differently coloured backdrop which lets the sweet, gently powdery vanilla stand out against the greenness. The end result is much brighter (not exactly "Noire") and crisper than most other vanillas, and also much easier for me to notice during extended wear. It conjures to mind the image of the vanilla orchid just before it flowers, still with buds and succulent with water. Great fragrance, but very expensive...

I got this fragrance in 2011 in its original flacon. The fragrance was unique, beautiful green vanilla, very luxurious and persistent. To my shock and horror I smelled it in Dubai recently and it was brutally reformulated with the arrival of new bottle. I hardly recognized it. It now reminds me My Guelain, it s almost powdery, the greeness is gone. Maybe it will find new clients among people who never had the previous version, but I am definitely not one of them. And last remark, my bottle from 2010 was bought in Guerlain boutique in Paris for 180€. The price increase in 2022 is incredulous.

Youkay

This is a massive love for me. Worth every ounce of rave and publicity. But why isn’t anyone speaking of how similar this is to Celine black tie? Or am I missing something?? To my nose, this is black tie on steroids. Longevity, sillage, scent quality, everything 💯. Guerlain did that !!!

ChanelBaddie

There are no words … simply the best vanilla of all time

sopelka

This was an instant love for me. I smelled quite a few LA&LM fragrances when I finally got to the Las Vegas boutique. AN, for some reason, was not on my to try list, and I only decided to sniff it after I asked the sales lady what the most popular fragrance of that collection was, and she pointed at it.
Oh my! The green, woody top notes instantly transporter me to my childhood. The magic of holidays… We had a large wooden storage box that my grandfather brought from Germany years and years ago. In it, we stored exotic Christmas tree ornaments wrapped in fine tissue paper. That box smelled exactly like AN’s opening! I nearly cried. The further evolution of the fragrance into a creamy vanilla was also delicious and dreamy. I knew immediately I was going to get a full bottle, and I did. I can justify the high price of this fragrance because it’s so rare when a fragrance has such a profound emotional effect on me.

TheEclecticNose

Scent:
Upon initial spray you're met with a sharpness from the Angelique, if you've never smelled what this note smells like, imagine a softer, more youthful version of your aunt's fresher perfumes. It's got a formal, fresh, greenness in the opening that makes you believe that this is the full extent of the scent profile... and then Guerlain's vanilla begins to develop like the opening of a flower bud to full bloom. Guerlain's vanilla is truly a work of art, it's not going for a photorealistic vanilla pod, or a bakery vanilla, it's sweet, powdery, skin-like DNA that works with the Angelique in establishing a hybrid concoction of sweet and fresh without being one or the other, or too much of one and little of the other - the beauty of this scent is the balance between soft, sweet vanilla and vibrant, green Angelique stems. Towards the later development of this fragrance the amber takes center stage, with the Angelique flower stems surrounding the amber on stage, as no note is subdued for the other.

Price:
I spent approximately $600 for a 200ml size of this fragrance, which I believe beyond a shadow of a doubt, was well worth the spend. I own no vanilla like this one, or a fresh fragrance that achieves what this fragrance does, it is in a league of it's own and every time I smell this I am proud I collect the finest of refined, and this fragrance holds a special place in my collection.

Overall impression:
I hear a lot from perfume heads who've been in the world of collecting or love of perfumery that this is a "dated take" on vanilla, and that there are plenty of newer, better renditions of vanilla at a fraction of the cost; and while this may or may not be totally true, there is no scent I've ever smelled similar to this one. In my experience at my local luxury department store they had a pop up of the private Guerlain fragrances, and I was super thrilled to finally smell this renowned perfume. When it was initially sprayed I was not expecting the sharp green note - needless to say I was put off by it initially, and continued shopping around the fragrance booths. While at Creed and Bond No. 9 sections of the store, I returned to an old fragrance tester, and felt the joy of why I love perfume dance in my nose. I returned to the Guerlain booth, and without question, stated my need for the largest size. The beauty of this fragrance is that it's what I call "signature staple" in that it's one of those universally palatable (for the most part) fragrances that can be worn any day, any month, any season or reason, and you will not question whether you smell good or not. In closing, if you want to smell like a garden of sweet, white flowers and bold green stems of Angelica, paired with the soft vanilla of flan then this is the fragrance for you.

Wow, this is angelica as I have never smelled it before. I like to imagine cool green notes like galbanum as cucumber greenness, while angelica reminds me of the smell a cool, shady forest pathway.
I definitely get it here, melded with the beautiful jasmine and vanilla, which on one hand are tenderly sweet and slightly leathery as jasmine can get, but also fluffy and light from the vanilla. There is however also a transparent musky woodiness in the base which I enjoy.

Excellent overall, I definitely need to try more of this one before forming a final opinion. On the border of unisex imo, slightly feminine leaning.

IamdrinkingBeer

An amazing feminine green vanilla creation. I get jasmine right in the opening. Think of SDV accompanied with jasmine and green notes. Very upscale and elegant, slightly austere because of the chanel-esque no19 green notes, if you live in Paris this would fit that place perfect. I want my future wife to smell like this. Enough said.

Ilikewhatilike

Really enjoying this unique vanilla as 40+ guy. The green notes give some freshness to balance the vanilla and it keeps me reaching for it. I'm a fan of vanilla. I like absolute aphrodisiac for evening shenanigans and this would be my rest of the day and occasions type of vanilla. Even works nicely in summer heat. Same philosophy as Ambra Calabria Nishane, which I think is more focussed on being a summer frag.

MelanieSP

Truly a masterpiece! Been on quite a journey with this fragrance at first I could not stand it I thought it smelled like grass clippings upon first spray and then several hours later I caught a whiff of the most beautiful vanilla fragrance I’ve ever smelled! My nose must have matured as well because now I quite enjoy the green, bitter opening. This fragrance smells classy and luxurious. I reserve it for more formal occasions.

Bouquet Bleu

Very sweet angelique. I prefer Angelique sous la pluie bt Malle. Altogether exclusif is quite a sweet oriental line, i expected an arimatic angelica but it must not be my line for that purpose.

aspirina

I have been wearing this scent today, the herbal aspect makes it such a fresh and beautiful vanilla. I must confess I didn't like it when I first got it. I think it felt it was little bit too bitter and unisex, now I like it more, and can appreciate its unique beauty. It is really hard to find anything similar to this scent. However, very recently I was surprised by a Victoria's Secret body spray that was driving me crazy, it was familiar but I didn't know what perfume it resembles...well call me crazy, but "Solar Sands" from VS is a herbal and light vanilla scent that has a vague similitude to Angelique Noire. I tried both scents on my husband wrists and he said, yeah they are similar but the body spray is a bit sweeter and more fresh...of course never a dupe nor a clone it is just a body spray but it has very similar "vibe"
I don't know, maybe you will disagree but for $6 (I got it in their semi annual sales) you won't lose much if you want to try yourself. I think that is it very nice to find something similar to AN in the ocean of lotions and body sprays...

Dixieland Delight

42 year old man here. This might be the best fragrance I've ever worn or smelled. Its unisex to me, definitely not feminine leaning to my nose. Clean, fresh, green, vanilla, herbal, rich, floral. Beautiful. You have to smell it. It's truly amazing how this can smell so bright, clean, bar soapy, and also so smooth and rich and creamy. Masterpiece is understating it.

PennyPinchin

One of the rarest categories is the citrus-free, salt-free summer gourmand. Angelique Noire (and I have the 2021 updated version) is the perfect green vanilla. Even in the humid, tropical heat of where I live, AN grows jammy but not cloying; the green note keeps things fresh! My only complaint is that it is expensive as hell.

GizPop

One of the most elegant fragrances I have stumbled upon, along with Spiriteuse Double Vanille, which unfortunately is a little more short lived. I think this elegance of Guerlain is only matched by Chanel. If you want pure french class in a bottle, go for it.

Trendkill97

One of the best Angelica prominent scents. Such comforting vanilla in this too, powdery sophistication, subtle sweetness, not screechy or obnoxiously loud at all. Immediate similarities to Love Don't Be Shy, Velvet Vanilla, Uniqu'e Istanbul, but this is so beautiful and calming in its own right, the jasmine, vanilla and angelica with hints of fruitiness up-top are the main detectable players in this scent, that interchange stage space from time to time. Overall, this is a must try for anyone who loves sweet fragrances and Guerlain, a true gem from the house.

Sereen84

Fields and fields of sweet Angelica. This is how I feel like when I'm wearing Angelique Noire. I'm in Heaven.

jung_yunho26

Why isn't green included in the main accords?

They say this smells like the best herbal vanilla they smelled, others overpriced and some unique but one will agree, yes? If not, you'll find criticisms such as underwhelming and being oversold. This might stem from how Guerlain classifies it as more of an ambery fragrance rather than being more ephemeral.

I'd like to remind everyone here that despite vanilla being used as a fixative, it is essentially green. I remember Iris Ganache's PR: "...an iris butter ‘worked like a pastry ganache’..." and so this one should read as angelica butter worked like a pastry ganache. It's fleeting much like all verdant scent profiles but holds a promise of orientalia which I find intriguing if not a touch Guerlain.

Despite its promising salvo, which of course almost everyone wishes to have lasted longer, it resolves into candied vanilla with nuances offered by spices and a desexualized jasmine; these might give hints of infinitesimal amounts of smoke, floralcy and of course the indispensable tonic properties of a green accord.

I am steadfast in using orientals and I'd admit that this one doesn't feel like a true one. Maybe properly, a green vanilla floral. With that being said, I think it's wonderful as I also adore greens but rarely do they offer candy and sweetness.

Karina7777

Reminds me of Marc Jacobs Decadance in the dry down, smells like tic tacs tbh

CreamSunshine

So, I finally got around to testing Mancera Velvet Vanilla directly against Angelique Noire (pre-reformulation batch) since people like to say these two are the same. With VV on my left arm and AN on my right arm, I can confidently say these fragrances are absolutely nothing alike. VV opened up very banana-candy floral, while AN opened up herbal-green-vanilla. In the far dry down of each, AN is simply a beautiful vanilla with slight green-ness, and VV literally smells like tropical fruit punch in comparison to it. They both have a similar vanilla “texture” or creaminess to them, but definitely not even close in their actual scents. Hope that helps, if anyone was thinking about spending money based on thinking one fragrance was like the other.

RavenRomera

Smoky, MYSTERIOUS, UNIQUE...it has a green spicy earthy core, unlike most bright citrus fragrances out there. Lasts well on me...I like to layer it with Trader Joes Lavender lotion; the perfume dries down to vanilla and the lavender lotion really compliments the scent and augments the lasting power. I get around 5 hours without having to touch up.
So, a rather lengthy side note: Fragrantica has become a guilty habit for me for many reasons, but chief among them are the Review Pages; so many outstanding beautiful writers! What is it about F that attracts such eloquent souls? While ogling the comments here, I often imagine i were a literary agent or marketing dept headhunter scouting for talent; the folks back at the office would be so jealous, wondering around the water cooler, "What's her secret? Where does she find all these amazing writers?" You reviewers (you know who you are) take readers on such joyous journeys through the fragrant and emotional sensuality of life. Many of my purchases have been from such said passion filled reviews. YOU GUYS ROCK, i get something from nearly every review here, can't say that for any other place I visit frequently. KEEP ON Vivi can passione!

Fragaddict123

It’s mainly a vanilla based fragrance
It dries down and it smells all the time of vanilla
But there is a guest of honor specifically in the opening the first thing you smell before the vanilla storms your nose it’s the royal Angelica
It stays for a little while then the vanilla continues the journey until the scent dies down
The Angelica was delightful

Tolkashutka

Easily one of my favorite vanilla scents, and I'm usually rather wary of vanilla.

I was disappointed / left wanting more by both Tihota and Fire at Will, but this is an entirely different league of its own. Maybe I'm just not a fan of linear vanilla, and I need it to have some extra oomph? Despite owning a 10 mL coffrett of SDV, I have yet to give it a proper wearing for comparison to AN (been too distracted by this beauty, along with Remember Me from Jovoy).

Either way, this started off as a tiny 1 mL dabber sample, then graduated to a 10 mL coffret, and finally culminated to a 75 mL swanky bottle. Despite the size of my collection, this would be in my Top 10 / Surviving a Major Marie Kondo Purge. My wallet is sad that I love it so damn much, so I try to wear this at a maximum of one time per week, and rotate with less expensive scents the rest of the time.

I can't even adequately describe why I love this damn stuff so much, but I do. Is it gourmand, is it green--is it a green gourmand? I don't know, I don't care, all I know is that I love it and it's a three season banger (all but the hottest of summers). It's a crowd pleaser / non-offensive for the workplace and garners me compliments there, but is also fancy / schwanky enough for an evening event.

If you haven't sampled it yet, you need to. Would not recommend for a full bottle blind buy (as it is very pricy), but it could easily be resold if you want to roll those dice.

muzzbait

A vanilla-heavy scent which is coloured by the spicy-green elements of angelica seeds. The jasmine provides a sweet white floral relief, and the pear adds a dainty-pretty element. All four of these elements jostle against each other for the lifespan of the scent, with one overpowering the others at various times throughout the journey. Not at all my thing, but I appreciate how all four components work with each other and achieve the scent you get when you sniff. Not a type of scent I personally would wear, but I do like smelling this one...

realitygreene

I got a very small sample for free from someone I purchased other samples from on Mercari. I was so thankful the seller included this lil freebie because I am desperate to try as many Guerlain fragrances as I can, especially this one which I have heard raved about so many times I lost count.

Angelique Noire is nice - it smells very pleasant, but it's not a scent that is making me go crazy. I get a 'vanilla extract' kind of vanilla from this scent which is honestly not my favorite kind of vanilla. I think this fragrance is very lovely and elegant and I can tell that it's very well-blended. All that being said, it's just not a fragrance that I want to smell like, but not because I think it smells 'bad'. It just isn't my thing. That being said if I found out I was the sole heiress to a multi-million dollar fortune (why do I always think like this), I would probably buy a bottle and force myself to use it because why not? 🤣 Honestly though, I'd love to get my hands on another sample or decant so I can try overspraying and wearing more than once to see if I could learn to love this. There truly was just enough in the sample for one wear (definitely not complaining, it was more than generous of the seller to include any sample at all!).

I am also a bit disappointed that I don't pick up on anything else than vanilla - especially not the Angelica which is a note I am very curious about. Although, it could just be that this fragrance is so well-blended that I wouldn't be able to pick up on it. 😅 #NicheNoob

I wouldn't call this a loss though - I knew already that 'vanilla extract' type of vanilla scents are not my thing. Okay, one second. I gave each wrist another sniff and my right wrist smells slightly different - kind of smoky. 😳 Okayyyyy this is lovely! I applied this fragrance about two hours ago so that seems like a bit of awhile to wait for it do develop, but what do I know. I think I'll add this fragrance to my decant wishlist because I am very curious to know it more.

edit: The smoky-ness reminds me of Replica By The Fireplace!

Absolutely beautiful! The angelica isn't overpowering and it's perfectly blended with just enough sweetness from the vanilla. Such a calming and unique fragrance.

It’s a springtime picnic in the park. I’m eating lite snacks in a pink, cotton sundress with a wide brimmed hat and dainty sandles. It’s 72 degrees in the shade. I smell pollen and I see bees buzzing around the wildflowers, maybe morning glory. But I’ve taken my allergy pills, so I haven’t sneezed. I’m sipping on sauvignon blanc, spending quality time with my sweetie. He sheepishly tells me how pretty I look today. I blink and turn coy.
——
Oh dear; I’m in trouble.
I was concerned it would be a risk, since it seems to be the green and bitter angelica colliding with a well-mannered vanilla.
It’s like plucking an ivy and rubbing it between your hands really fast so it’s crushed and earthy, but not dark. Like the juicy innards of a verdant, but not sour, stem. Then ripe, soft, sweet anjou pear juice drizzled on top, with the gorgeous vanilla that Guerlain does so well. It’s all in the blender now and ready to serve up. It’s not gourmand, but if something tasted like this, I would gladly consume it. It is quite sweet…from the pear note.

Update: very light after 3 hours (on me). My heart is sad because my wallet can not justify a FB.

Holliebobollie

I think this is a beautiful, fresh, vanilla scent. I love the green note with the vanilla. It’s very addictive and a bit odd which is maybe why it’s addictive. Unfortunately it doesn’t last long on my skin.

It’s absolutely stunning. An herbal, green, woody vanilla. I get lots of Angelica with the top notes and the clash between the herbal notes and vanilla Is just genius. If you want to save some money, get Mancera Velvet Vanilla as the dry down is like 99.5 percent similar. The opening is what sets them apart and puts Guerlain on top IMO but for the price, Velvet Vanilla will do the job. Tbh, it’s hard to even differentiate them to me after an hour.

Meeshti

I'm really into AN. It's beautiful and interesting. Is it green? Is it gourmand? I don't know but it's perfectly balanced to my nose. A high quality juicy freshie with a soft ambery base. (At times I pick up tomato leaf.) Really so interesting. A crowd pleaser too.

Deppaholic

So, yeah. I have been using this for awhile now. Since they discontinued or can't source due to covid, a few of my favorites such as Asian/Oriental Brulant and Gourmand Coquin, I have been re-ordering this. Looks like they will keep this one in their lineup. The Angelica is tied to me in many ways. I had read before about it helping with a host of ailments, etc. Just thought I'd drop a few here. Take a look.

Uses (Ethnobotany): Garden Angelica was believed to have medicinal and magical properties that counteract poisons and ward off evil. As a medicinal plant, it was considered to have 'angelic' healing powers for protection against contagions, purifying blood, and treatment of digestive disorders.

Good to know, right :)

I will say, I have a lot of Fragrances, and mostly Guerlain, and now that they have dropped 2, I don't have as many to choose from. Two of my favorites. Everybody who loves this, describes it to a T. They are so eloquent in their notes and descriptions.

There is something magical about it, so as long as they keep producing, I will have a bottle or two. Give it a try, you'll be addicted too.

Edit: I have tried the new one that they sent me some samples of 4 fragrances. It is different
than the original flanker. Not as strong, a bit oily. I am not complaining, because I
haven't been able to find anything like it. I guess it is right up there at the top of my
beloved juices. Sigh. Why oh why. I will purchase though. Can't wear BR540
everyday. And I do love Guerlain. Not all, but a few. It's close enough.

Luluteeter

This is one of my holy grail scents. I actually did not care for it at very first smell, but came back a few later and something just clicked. The Angelica comes out strong and bright and is addicting. An hour or so in, it has mellowed to make way for a perfectly complimenting vanilla, as I have found Guerlain does the absolute best. Lasts quite a long time on me. Bought a full bottle almost immediately after smelling.

Maschka

This smells like Aura by Mugler. Very sweet green vanilla. Glad I got a sample because I was expecting something else from all the raving reviews..

scentedgenie

Nothing comes close to this. I have perfumes in 4 figures and when I say "nothing", I mean it. Nothing. Period

MagdalenaM07

I'm so happy I took home a little sample and got the chance to come back to it- because WOW! I liked it when I smelled it at the Guerlain counter back in September, but not nearly enough to purchase a full bottle. These last few days I've been craving it like crazy. Definitely need a full bottle.

jassca99

Was love at first sniff. This is gorgeous and what I wanted LV’s Contre Moi to be. A fresh herbal, grass, green which I assume is the Angelica, blended so well with fresh pear. It goes on a journey to end up back to its green roots lol The vanilla, while having a cloud-like presence, never takes full control in this perfume like I expected to happen (update: the vanilla is louder in my full bottle compared to the sample), but I’m not upset about it. I love the green take and think this will be great almost year round. Unfortunately, after reading the comments, I’m not sure if my sample was the old or new formula but I’ll definitely try to go in store to compare. Or it’s possible the formula is the same, it’s just the juice in older bottles have deepened with more time. Also this DOES NOT smell like Diptyque’s Eau Duelle, which is a very dry, green, more woody, spicy vanilla, while Angelique Noire is a juicy wet green vanilla. Both sweet and great perfumes.

Update: I think this is best only for cool/cold weather. Love it! But Too dense for humidity.

AK2

Nothing left to say that hasn’t been already said about this beauty. In my eyes this is the most beautiful, elegant and sexy fragrance to date. The longevity is way too poor for the price though, I will have to save this one only for special occasions.

Bennyben1

The opening is a loud sour scent, reminiscent of champagne, it must be the combination of pear and pepper, and this lasts for at least an hour. The midnote is the familiar jasmine and vanilla, Guerlain's version is beautiful. And the dry down is the vegetal yet slightly sweet angelica root. I'd say the whole show lasts about three hours, not long at all, and the sillage stays close to the body. It's very safe, very innocent perfume, a crowd pleaser.

spiceysauce5

Wow very unique. Green and vegetal vanilla. Like a high quality vanilla scent went to go pick tomatoes. Not sure how to process it. DEF not a blind buy

valelita

To my nose, this smells like if BDK's Pas Ce Soir and Xerjoff Dama Bianca had a baby. I love it <3

This fragrance is part of Guerlain L’Art & La Matière collection which is crafted by The House of Guerlain Perfumers using the highest quality materials. The perfume is named after the Angelica flower used as the center stage of the fragrance. Angelica itself has a unique bitterness and fresh accord. Daniela Andrièr as a perfumer masterfully blend the Angelica flower to create this magical olfactory experience.

Angélique Noire take me to a journey inside a lushly vanila plants garden. The leaves are very vibrant and freshly covered by raindrops from lastnight. I can smell the lively fragrant and natural sweetness of vanila accompanied by the green bitterness as I cut the leaves sheet by sheet. My senses awake by all the contrasting sweet and bitterness coming all together. I find this fragrance very pleasant and calming but also gives the excitement like I had when doing gardening activities. It is calming but always interesting because of the contrasting and complex fresh, sweet, herbal, green and bitter aspects.

For me this is still the most perfect balance and natural smelling vanila fragrance to date that can be enjoy by all people because it is far from the gourmand territory which is vanila fragrance usually do. A blissful vanila heaven I enjoy the most. I highly recommend everyone to try this vanila masterpiece.

This is one of my favorite, ever, fragrances. It's just gorgeous and kind of pulls people in. It is angelica mixed with pear and seems like vanilla - a soft and feminine fragrance that envelopes for hours. The pink pepper is well mixed in creating a beautiful whole and complete scent, with no scent sticking out louder than the others. The pear and angelica are just lovely together. The bottle is elegant (the tall one with the name on the side) and it shows forth a perfect "Guerlain" performance. A very romantic scent, elegant, timeless, addictive. Soft, subtle....take your time....

stephen.patton

As a 36 year old man, fragrances like this wouldnt usually attract me but i like the quality guerlain has, however i am not a big fan of the intial spray of this, the angelica is too green vegatal for me, defo more feminine…

however the magic happens about 20 mins in, the vanilla, pink pepper comes through, this is the exact same vanilla in SDV.

RisingChaos

Angelica provides a fresh green and musky opening overlaid with sweet pear and a hint of powdery vanilla underneath. Almost... like a dry green bar soap. Jasmine provides a light airy touch. I find the scent very linear and never detect much of the vanilla, this is really more of an angelica bomb to me. It's interesting but I don't love it. At least the performance is solid, I get moderate-strong projection for 2-3hr with 8-10hr longevity.

RottigrlNYC

The original Angelique Noire is amazing and if you’re lucky to buy an older version, do it. I have the new reformulated version and it’s ok, it’s nothing like the pre formulated Angelique Noire. It’s weaker but there is something else different too, I can’t tell what they added. Anyway they ruined it. Imho. Z

scarlet_o'hara

In my humble opinion Daniela Andrier has created one of the greatest, if not THE greatest perfume of the 20th c. and, to me, Guerlain's greatest since Shalimar which I've worn since teenage years. A psychogenic aphrodisiac, addictive, unique, with tremendous signature, and sillage on me. Each to his own, but for those who "get it," the scent haunts you until you put it on again. I do see where some folks think it is similar to others due to the use of Angelica, etc. (such a fabulous note), but my neurology doesn't agree. It seems to me that the combination with the famous Guerlainade vanilla accord couldn't begin to be matched, unless you started with the "secret sauce" and its combinatorial different grades of vanilla. How the formula is guarded might make a first class story, never to be revealed. (L'Instant which I also love, is huge wonderful carnation, but my nose does not perceive these in the same frame, as some other do when comparing; so interesting and such a mystery to me to see how noses vary so widely. Thankfully, scent and food are areas where one's bias is the entire point.) Equally marvelous for men, I know at least one man over the moon for this perfume, raises his voice in excitement when talking about it, feels the same way I do describing it in rare superlatives, and he wears it all the time, too. In terror, I bought a lot of original bottles when the "repackaging" was announced. Too scared to sample what appears to be a reformulation judging from the comments of those who have been braver than I. (Not sure I want to break down and cry at the Guerlain sales counter.) I also own and wear with pleasure Daniela Andrier's Bottega Veneta Parco Palladiano III but, alas, I hear that series is being discontinued. It seems that perfumers and chefs are the rock stars of the 21st c. It would be wonderful for perfumistas to have an evening with Ms. Andrier where she talked about anything she wanted. Rock on, Daniela.

s.pellegrino

I love angelica, and it's so well-placed here; I think this is a really clever way to make vanilla more interesting. That said, this is still very much a vanilla fragrance, and it leans too sweet for me personally. I agree with the many comparisons to Eau Duelle, and note the similarities in the dry down. But Eau Duelle is airier, where Angelique Noire is weighed down by the heavier, sweeter vanilla note. Chose your own adventure accordingly.

NightMusic

A slightly green/herbal vanilla. Quite simplistic, doesn’t develop much but beautiful and clearly one of the most popular fragrances from the L’Art & La Matière line. I just think in the time since this was released there are many more spectacular vanilla-centric fragrances to be found on the market, especially at this price point.

Cicely81

This is amazing from start to end. Start is a beautiful angelica- if you have never smelt this, it is a similar smell to clove and aniseed but also very herbal, fresh and vegetal. I also get a soft woody cedar note and a sweet and lovely Shalimar-like vanilla which gets stronger into the dry down. Most original vanilla and works so well.

Having tried all, I really don’t care for the musky vanillas from Sylvaine Delacourt or Eau Duelle. I’ll keep all the Angelique Noire!

Savu

Here goes my first review. I just got the new bottle, and I'm so sad and disappointed. 300€ for slightly perfumed water.. I've been overspraying so heavily, and I can barely smell it. Why everything good has to be reformulated? I don't understand.
In the previous bottle, the juice was GORGEOUS. One of my favorites. It lasted days on my clothes. I'm sad I only had decant of it, and can't get my hands on it anymore :(

From now on, the only option is just wait and hope it will get better with time.

SailorV

Angélique Noire is so beautiful and was certainly the inspiration for many other beautiful perfumes that followed.
I don't find anything "Noir" about it, on the contrary: It's a bright and fluffy scent, flooded with light. Beautiful, elegant Guerlain signature vanilla is the center of the composition, freshened up by a lovely, intensely green angelica opening, a juicy, not too sweet pear note and a tiny hint of spice and woods. It sits right at the center between a creamy and a powdery scent. There is not much development, of course it becomes warmer and more vanillic as it dries down, but it doesn't take any surprising turns.
I love this scent and I think it could really work as a signature as I can't imagine any occasion where it would be out of place. It's a good performer, but not overwhelming by any means.

Even though I'm very pleased with the scent, I'm relieved that I don't feel like I need this expensive gem in my collection. The whole L'Art & la Matière line is supposed to be reissued soon and will likely get even pricier and more exclusive. I already have two of them, Cuir Beluga and Joyeuse Tubéreuse, and I feel like the take on vanilla in these three is quite similar.
And as I mentioned in the beginning, there are lots of fragrances nowadays that have a similar scent profile to Angélique Noire. Notable examples that I love and that aren't cheap, but a little less expensive than this, are Diptique Eau Duelle, Atelier Vanille Insensée (both woodsier and more balsamic) and Sylvaine Delacourte Smeraldo (with musk instead of vanilla). I don't see that much resemblance to L'instant though, as that one doesn't have the greenness that defines Angélique Noire.

Vanian

Bliss, pure bliss. Love from first sniff. Daniela Roche Andrier signature work through and through. Love every single stage of it and how it stays on my skin and body chemistry. This is elegance, elegance in a bottle. It opens obviously with the Angelica which I truly love, going through the middle accordingly, there is something addictive about the caraway and finishing with the so famous vanilla... More autumnal and winter-y scent for my understanding, but do see myself happily wearing this in spring as well.

hsiangchi.huang

MY ABSOLUTE FAVOURITE FROM THIS LINE!

It's a beautiful green vanilla (60% angelica + 40% vanilla) that's not gonna offend anyone and still unique on its own. There's no bitterness in the angelica, it's all rounded off by the soft sweet dreamy vanilla. You can really smell the quality of the vanilla here, and I get more of it here than in SDV.

Happiness in a bottle! 10/10

ceeceelee

Oh, Oh, Oh, if this just lasted a little bit longer on me.................It smells amazing to my nose. Beautiful, powdery, green vanilla. I know someone compared it to Vanille Exquise by Annick Goutal, but that one doesn't have enough angelica. It's gone in an instant. This one stays until the end, even if that end is way too soon for me. I don't know if it's my skin or the perfume bc other Guerlains made in the same time period last just fine on me.

gillc82

Blind bought Tonka Imperiale and Angelique Noire. Whilst I’ve now really begun to enjoy TI, I just can’t get on with AN. The green note is way too prominent even in dry down. Sadly, I’ll have to sell this on - anyone in the UK looking for a full bottle minus 2-3 sprays, message me.

LovelyLifestyle

Angelica is one of my favorite notes.
(One of my favorite fragrances ever is Frederic Malle's Angeliques Sous La Pluie)
Which is an angelica bomb and absolute perfection.

Since angelica is listed in the top and the base of Angelique Noire (and is part of the name of this fragrance), I was expecting an angelica-prominent scent.
But the angelica is actually a background note.
This fragrance is jasmine and vanilla forward, with angelica and pepper somewhere off in the distance.
It is a very pretty fragrance and I do like it. But I feel like it would be better suited as a candle or home fragrance.
Not fbw for me.

Perpetual Collector

I am not sure how I feel about it. Guerlain included a sample of AN with my Nahema purchase, and honestly, i am relieved I don't love it. My wallet has been screaming lately. My husband is about to scream too. So yes, I am glad I can skip over this particular Guerlain as it doesn't feel like me, at all. I agree it smells faintly like L'Instant de Guerlain, but not nowhere near enough to be listed in "This perfume reminds me of" section.
So today's wearing is just a "like", but who knows...tomorrow is a whole new day.

nadicamihajlovic

When making sweet from grapes our grandmothers place a leaf of Rozetla plant (Pelargonium citronella) into the jar, and that's how Angélique Noire mainly smells to me. If you ever experienced opening that jar you know what I mean. I never came across Angelica thou, but green notes to me are of the same kind as Rozetla leaf. Angélique Noire smells velvety green and purple. There is also some bitter aromatics bonbons sensation. Definitely unisex in the beginning but more feminine when it develops. More mysterious than sexy.

thescented1

I was so excited to get my nose on this after so many good reviews on youtube. It was too weak, not as green as I was expecting. So sad that it did not live up to my expectations. I have tested about 2 dozen fragrances for my upcoming milestone birthday. This will not be the one. At least I now know it is not worth the hype.

Jacq24

I was blown away when I first sampled this perfume and I brought a full bottle almost immediately (which never happens).

The Angelica in the opening is breath taking. The mid has florals most notably Jasmin and the base is that beautiful vanilla that Guerlain is famous for.

It is sexy in a coquettish French way.

I have received several complements on this perfume, which is always nice :-)

Cristinaaa

THE fragrance that consistently brings me joy and lifts my spirit. I am so tempted to make this my signature scent but I feel it is too special to be worn on regular days. The opening is bright, sweet, slightly herbal, and feminine leaning (although I'd go crazy if I smelled this on a man). The dry down is a decadent, woody vanilla that lingers for days on my clothes. I can't get enough. This was the best blind buy of my life.

Lmuradian

A carbon copy of Diptyque Eau Duelle when this drys down. You can smell the Guerlain quality through and through. that's what makes this scent worth its price. But if the dry down and mid are pretty much the same Im picking up Eau Duelle

“Expensive Baby Powder”

Angelique Noire is Guerlain’s expensive version of L’Instant Magic. In fact, I think the company must be laughing at people who think more expensive always means better by charging this much for something that is a slightly tweaked L’Instant.

I like L’Instant Magic, and objectively, I actually think it’s better than Angelique Noire because it at least has more longevity and sillage where Angelique is incredibly soft to the point of it wearing only as a barely there skin scent. For a beautiful, airy vanilla with a green/herbal (angelica) note check out Annick Goutal Vanille Exquise. That one dries down to a creamy swirling woody vanilla (the start showcases angelica most prominently but it dissipates and becomes more about airy, dry, non-sweet, almond-vanilla).

I had the entire L’Art Matiere collection when they first came out over 10 years ago. Back then they were all at least moderate sillage/longevity and I really enjoyed a few of them. Now they’re so weak and clearly reformulated. But I still swoon-swoon-swoon over Neroli Outrenoir (which is a brilliant masterpiece).

candyyumyum

So beautiful. One of my favorite of all time. Similar to Eau Duelle however it is much more potent, and doesn't have the cardamom spice thing going on, instead that fresh green/milky herbal angelica. A stunning fresh sexy and mature vanilla. The opening is incredible but doesnt last super long. The dry down is just a nice creamy vanilla. I dont think this projects very much. It becomes a skin scent pretty quickly but I still think it is worth it.

h10011z

This is such a beautiful perfume! I was absolutely floored when I first smelled my devant. Opens up with that green angelica, but the sweet, woody vanilla quickly comes through. The vanilla in this is sweeter than the one in SDV, and both are sooo addictive. I cannot stop smelling my wrists every time I wear this. Because of the green note, I’d say this is more of a spring-summer scent. I don’t get powderiness in this that some other reviews mention—it’s more of a woody vanilla to me.

None of the Guerlain art and materials perfumes are beasts. The ones I’ve tried all last around 6 hours. This one turns into a skin scent after ~3 hours on my skin, but I don’t mind reapplying since I love this scent so much. Overall, this is amazing and 100% FBW!

brokesta911

Guerlain Angelique Noire (2005) - herbal vanilla - #daniellerocheandrier ‘s perfume is well-balanced and filled with juxtapositions that it’s a treat to the nose. Spicy Caraway and Pink pepper are contrasted by Creamy Almonds and Vanilla accords. White Jasmine has to face the herbal Angelica. Juicy pear accords is balanced with Cedar woody notes. One of the best from the materials collection.

AprilSherry

It's a Guerlain vanilla, need I say more?

I was initially almost repulsed by how strange and green the opening is, but Guerlain vanillas never disappointed me so I stuck with it. What can I say, Guerlain is one of those houses that mastered vanilla fragrance. The dry down is so beautiful, the green note from the angelica was still there, but it smooths out and the vanilla becomes much more apparent. Very delicious woody vanilla, but not edible mind you. It is sweet, just because I think that is the nature of vanilla, but the slight woodsy tones and the green from the angelica makes gives it some leeway that a confident man can probably steer it into unisex territory if he chooses to wear it. Quite honestly every time I go back to smell my bottle I keep being impressed by it, I even like the super green opening now.

Not amazing sillage on me, but it does last a very long time. A surprisingly versatile fragrance that works for a lot of occasions, even more casual ones if you can swallow the high price tag that is.

blossomka

7.5/10. Parsley, mint/menthol, gourmand sweet cupcakes. Spicy. Interesting and unique. A bit of a contradiction between the fresh, spicy green herbs and the sweet cupcakes. Would not want to eat a cupcake with parsley on it. Musky after time.

snoopyQ

Let me lay out my thoughts on Aura by TM and Angelique noir by G:
Opening:
Thierry Mugler Aura, is that you?
It has the greeness of TM Aura and the Guerlain vanilla .... but wait there is vanilla in Aura too.
Two twin Sisters!

Middle:
Still very similar indeed, predominantly ” green” smelling, both of them ,Aura by TM and Angelique noir by G.

Drydown:
Angelique noir turns into a powdery- almost-dusty vanilla but maintains a whisper of greeness throughout the drydown.
Aura by TM is less vanillic and less powdery and more green in the drydown.

To me there is not a big difference between these two perfumes.
Unless of course my nose is broken or COVID has started to find a cosy happy home in my nostrils.
Which absolutely is a possibility given the times we live in ;)

dsantiago02

@snoopyQ I would have to disagree. Angelique Noire is NOTHING like Mugler's Aura. Mugler's Aura is pungent and medicinal, with hints of rhubarb and tiger lily, and a jasmine bomb. Angelique Noire is all about a herbal green and very comforting vanilla. Angelique Noire is BY FAR more wearable (due to likeability factor) than TM Aura. They are not "twin sisters", and they have nothing in common as far as scent profile goes; their directions are too different to even try and compare.

JazLee

Such a stunning scent.
It is so unique as that enormous entry of Angelica and Pepper literally blow you away but it settles down to a green, refreshing vanilla.
I do have days where I literally crave this fragrance. It is not like any others I have tried. It gives me a boost of energy yet calms at same time.
I would consider this a safe all year round scent. In really hot heat, it might be too much but definitely wearable in the cooler summer evenings.
Despite its intense opening, it doesn’t project very far.
Those within a two meter distance can smell it.
I can smell it on myself for about 8 hours. (2 sprays)
It was an unexpected instant love for me and am happy to have added a full bottle of it to my collection.

valkt66

I smelt this today and sadly they were out of stock. I will buy this next. Its so beautiful, delicate sweetness with a gorgeous green herbaceous feeling. I get why this is so loved.

CreamSunshine

I frequently crave this beautiful perfume. The peppery green-ness at the opening adds some interest to the sweet, creamy Guerlain-ade base scent. That base will linger on your skin all day and occasionally give you whiffs of the most utterly (not trying to make a pun, there’s just no better word to use) angelic vanilla. This is one for the sweet scent lovers, such as myself.

This comes across as a practical and innocent scent to me, as well. You might think men would love this since it’s vanilla heavy, but I find that the green notes give a slightly herbal feel that cancels any vanilla sexiness out. If this scent was a woman, she’d be a natural beauty who just finished tending her backyard herb garden and is now tying her hair back with a big silk bow.

grandeur

A unique scent that is far too green for my liking in the opening. Settles into a lovely vanilla but does not last at all. For the price and the hype the performance is disappointing.

mapache

O-M-G !!!
Finally decided to buy this after so long. It arrived today.
LOVE at first sniff !!!! I get the angelica/pear/vanilla/musk right away...then it goes slightly powdery...but sweetens also.
Underneath...I get green vibes.
It has medium projection/sillage.
I do get a "touch" of L'Instant dna also...????

Overall...IMO...rhis is a stunning scent.
Bravo !!!

kclscents

In love! I would wear this in the fall, winter, spring for days and for summer nights. This doesn’t project more than arm's length and my skin eats fragrance so it lasts maybe 5 hours before turning into a skin scent for another 6 hours. On clothes and hair, however, this lasts much longer. I get days-weeks if I spray on clothes. This is so lovely and the angelica makes the vanilla so interesting. I don’t feel like the angelica is that bitter or off-putting, it’s just the right touch to make this a unique green vanilla. The vanilla is musky, slightly powdery and so perfect. My baby sister thinks this smells like creme brulee when it dries down lol.

hannamariance29

This is the best fragrance of all time. Just have it for a month, i'm already want to buy another bottle since its difficult to find near my location.
I love love love the smell. You can wear it on any occasion. This is expensive, but i love it so much and i wear it to my office everyday!!
The best perfume and masterpiece have ever made 🤎

EvilCupcake

This is a gorgeous fragrance! It starts mostly green, you smell a lot of the angelica and pear at first. Then slowly the vanilla creeps in, and it just hugs you like a warm comfy blanket. This fragrance has very good longevity too, so you don't need to re-spray after a few hours.

I smelled Spiritueuse Double Vanille at the store, and while it smelled good, I'm really glad I picked this one instead. I can see myself using this a lot.

scentofbuket

Goddess of scents!

First time I tried this in store, I have tried other fragrances on multiple parts of my arms as well, and couldn't decide if this was a keeper or not, but whenever I sniffed the part AN stays on my arm, I couldn't help but fall in love with the sweetest romantic vanilla trace it left on my skin.

Today, I tried it again in store, but I sprayed only AN this time. It has been 2 hours and I can not describe how it evolved, changed and mesmerised me. I will give it 2-3 more hours to make me fall more and more in love, and will buy the full bottle immediately afterwards!

UPDATE: I have bought the bottle, started using, and all I can say is INCREDIBLE.. Like everyday, it's becoming more and more beautiful on my skin.

It lasts and projects also great and I guarantee you'll smell and feel sophisticated, elegant, grounded, sexy, beautiful,... and so much more. That's what this scent makes me feel like. And none others did so far!

Fragrat

Angelique was a blind buy I had a good feeling about, knowing fully well that it was a risk to dive in like an optimist, and a real potential chance of disappointment.

The box came, and what a box it was, crisp white with golden print and wrapped in a blush pink cotton bow, easily one of the most beautiful presentations I’ve seen, and the marvel only continued as I opened it up to a golden envelope, a lovely little Guerlain pouch with various samples and, of course, the stunner of a perfume box itself, all wrapped with considerable care. It is my first purchase from Guerlain, having only been deeply invested in fragrances for a year or so, so this experience really made me feel as if I had missed out in life, art of gifting indeed! The purple velvet is lush against that golden shimmery bottle, and at this point I’m truly apprehensive, what could possibly live up to all the confidence and specialness of this presentation? A let down seemed unavoidable.

I spray her once on each wrist, and after a moment I realise I’m having the most incredible sensation. My face is turning hot with rushing blood in a way it only does the rare times I’ve experienced an outstanding, memorable and expensive restaurant meal, and never before for a fragrance.

And from the moment I first spray her, she’s suddenly just there.
She’s as clear as anything in my mind’s eye, vibrant, springy green and gossamer soft, fairy wings fluttering clean vanilla sweetness all around me. She’s feminine yet completely other, she's precocious, self-assured and complex, and she holds all of my attention at once.
I can sense her on my shoulder like a mischievous woodland fairy, and as if by some magic, as soon as she arrives, all the weight that I hadn’t even realised I was carrying up there on her new throne is gone.

For the next few hours, I cannot stop smiling, I’m absolutely lovesick, I feel like I accidentally stumbled over the Philosopher’s Stone and lead is turning to gold all around me. My nose is glued to my wrist and I don’t even pay any mind to the quizzical, exasperated looks my husband is throwing me. ‘Peppery’, he comments, probably picking up on that pink pepper opening note, and I wouldn’t even care if he thought it smelled like apocalyptic warfare, she’s mine and she is beyond exquisite, to me, she’s transcendent.

Angelique lifted me in a way I had never known a fragrance to be capable of, for that entire day I first wore her I felt as if I was floating, everyday woes seemed so far away and insignificant, they hadn’t gone away, they just mattered less, felt less daunting, less threatening. To me, Angelique is Tinkerbell’s sophisticated older sister, whilst Tinkerbell’s pixie dust makes children fly and carries them away to another world, Angelique’s is powerful enough to even lift the grey, dreary adults. Whilst Tinkerbell gets tangled up and double-crossed by pirates, Angelique has them by the nose the entire time, too smart and too captivating to be outwitted. She’s one of the most accomplished fairies in the entire fairy tree, yet she’s just here along for the ride.

She didn’t fade until bedtime, despite this I was in a constant persuasion game with myself all day long not to go back to the bottle to get another dose of that beautiful biting Angelica opening, not to wear her to bed because I’d be unconscious, and what a waste that would be. I desperately looked forward to waking up just so I could wear her again.

Angelique will have a home on my shoulder for the rest of my life, and it will be a pleasure and a privilege to wear her every time. If you’re considering her, dive in like an optimist. I truly hope she is as luminous and incomparable to you as she always will be to me.

Delicious!!! pure vanilla goodness. the angelica was very faint, almost non existent, it was a gorgeous fruity/floral vanilla from start to finish for me.

bluesunshine

Absolutely 100% new favorite to my collection. Herbal, floral, green opening folds into a luscious & sexy vanilla. ❤️

bel.gravia

A fantastic green herbal scent of angelica mixed with Guerlinade. Love at first sight, and one of the best creations of perfumery. Innovative, intriguing, addictive. I adore this beyond belief.

In my search for the perfect vanilla fragrance I've sampled AN. It's vanilla at it's best. Yes, there's that fresh green in the opening but it fades pretty quickly on me and leaves a creamy, smooth, and slightly musky vanilla behind. I love perfume and I'm by no means an expert in picking up perfume notes, I just know what I like. I just love this fragrance! It lasts a long time on me and every now and then I can catch a whiff of it's creamy yumminess throughout the day. I just bit the bullet and ordered a full bottle!

I allmost didn't wait for my sample, and blind bought a bottle. Im glad I waited.
I love angelica in some favorite fragrances, and I like a pear note, as in Byredo Mojave Ghost.

They are not so noticable here, more as a part of a great accord. Yeah, I was surprised at how fresh the opening is.
On second try, Im getting a very bright and sunny green note, but it's not angelica.
I smelled this green/ floral accord before, its in Saville a L'Aube, L'Artisan Parfumer.
There its just listed as "green note" with an orange blossom, the green note smells like flower stems.
I think Guerlain is not so precise in their note breakdown. They put what has better marketability.
It's a nice green note and orange blossom in the open, not jasmine. Then you have the vanilla in the background, that gradually gets more prominent.

I was expecting mostly a sweet vanilla, but its much more complex than what I was expecting. The angelica and pink pepper give it vibrancy. So the fragrance as a whole does not come off as a vanilla gourmand, but something much more interesting.

Guerlain has managed to give this a sexy feel. It would be very classy and attractive on a woman. It reminded me of MFK Baccarat Rouge 540 in that way, though both different.

I think they have some unlisted aroma chems that are giving it a sexy vib, but the fragrance as a whole feels natural. Its not overly feminine, because of the green, spiciness.

But it is too feminine for me I think. This is not your ordinary vanilla. Its very classy, and I respect this fragrance a lot.

I honestly loved the opening, it was so unique and sexy. But the dry down on me was pure CUSTARD. Do you love custard? If not, stay away from Angelique Noire.

zestybloom

My son said it smells good but I smell something weird at the same time I feel the same I bought it but the green smells odd I don’t hate it but I’m not like wow I keep smelling to see if the weird goes away

pearl421

This is a panty dropper perfume, period. Possibly my favorite perfume of all time. Lasts forever (I still smell it on a sweater I wore 4 years ago, no joke).

floral08

If I had to choose only one for the rest of my life, I would leave my 70+ bottles behind and go for this beauty. Simply the best for me...

Hazel1234

Definitely wears differently than the spritz I sprayed at the department store.
Lovely, soft (way softer and less sillage than I expected from Guerlain), and a vanilla overtone that I truly enjoyed throughout. Whatever is blended with that vanilla produces such a lovely scent.
I can see this being a bedtime scent.

Deppaholic

Well (as Reagan used to open his sentences) if the enemy was trying to kill me, they could use this fragrance to find me, then again.....I'd be a step ahead and switch to...haha...they'd never know. But seriously, I'm ready to buy another bottle, I have others and others....and there are really only few I use again and again again. They are the victims of empty tnest syndrome. I curse the day Guerlain discontinued my beloved Oriental Brulant-Asian Brulant, call it what you want. I know it is the Angelica that pulls me in here and wraps and traps her green then white buds when in bloom and tangles herself in my hair, as I am so familiar with this flower from being a highlander, it grew everywhere I played as a youth, it lives and breathes in my soul. And vanilla, who doesn't long vanilla, hot or cold on something or in something you eat or use in a body product. This is as AlisonSmith exactly describes, nothing compares to you. One Elvis. One Whitney. I always know to repurchase when I'm down to 1/4 bottle. I hope they never discontinue this beauty. I wear it all year round. I do wear other fragrances, and another top house. Two houses, count them 1, 2. I stray, and spray, and a curious mind does, but there are only a few true beauties. Once you find yours, you will know......

ps. I need to clean up my perfume have/want/had page....anyone interested in swaps pm me

Allisonmsmith22

You know a fragrance is a masterpiece when it's this popular, yet has nothing in the "smells like section".

Nothing compares to this beauty

Emma92

There are some days when only a Guerlain vanilla will do, and this does it for me every time. One of my absolute favourites. The opening is the best for me, such an unusual green note that then folds into drapes of gorgeous vanilla. So so good. Lasts forever.

rebelspywendy

This is what my local Guerlain boutique wafts through the air to lure customers in. The siren scent definitely did its trick! Even through my mask, the calming, herbal vanilla was spa-like in its serene presentation, but warmth and comfort replaced sterility. This is probably one of the most magical, transportive fragrances I’ve smelled. For some reason, I imagine that this is what a ballerina in a music box would wear, and I think this is what woodland fairies might smell like. It has an ethereal quality that makes my nose so happy! AN is a masterpiece that reminds me why I love this hobby so much; it is a unique, luxurious scent that I can’t stop indulging in. Angelic but earthly, sweet and delicately green, a powerhouse that manages to float and not suffocate, AN is a complex but simultaneously simple, undoubtedly sublime, experience.

Cherry_Darling

Very soft and subtle, a realistic pear, a green, herbal Angelique, realistic jasmine. I felt a touch underwhelmed as it's fairly soft, I guess I was expecting a vanilla bomb (and also, I've just eaten a bomb dessert :D) Anyway it is very very nice. I'll need to test again to make a full assessment but I'm not as blown away as I was expecting to be. Don't get any caraway or pepper. Oh and musk, where is it?

Just got a decant of this.
Glad I got a decant and didn't do a full bottle because to me it smells almost identical to Armani Si Fiori.
Initially I get that burst of what people describe as "green" and to me is almost like the white part of a lemon or orange peel.
But once that passes, I would swear I'm wearing Si Fiori.
Both are beautiful but I already own So Fiori so I won't be buying a full bottle of Angelique Noire. Plus the one I have is so much less expensive! Bonus!

junoMACguff

I may be crazy but I smell similarities between Tom Ford Metallique and Angelique Noire. After the dry down when the green Angelica note fades. (I may be one of the few who actually likes Metallique so this isn’t a bad thing).

I totally get why people say that Angelique Noire and Spirituese Double Vanille are sisters. Strip away SDV’s benzoin and incense then add the herbal green Angelica note and what do you have? A rich, sumptuous yet fresh vanilla that begs to be worn in warm weather.

This was a blind buy which after the failure of my last (I’m looking at you, Prada Candy Night!), made me a little nervous. But as luck would have it, this is definitely worth the hype.

richechka

The name of the perfume speaks itself. “ Angelique Noire” is a feminine, seductive, beautiful and very French.

I never smelled so interesting composition of green notes and vanilla. Green but sweet. Very tasty.
After “ Carnal flower” where the first 5 minutes you feel like you are chewing the grass ( as much green it is), nothing can seem to me green any more🌿
Guerlain is always tender and gentle with peppery, green notes - they are soft, delicate and not offensive at all. I would say even pleasant.

A bit of sourness , freshness and fruitiness but still it’s all about sweet vanilla and I love it !

Sometimes “Angelique Noire” reminds me of a “Spiritueuse Double Vanille” - where the first one is more a daytime and second is definitely a night jam.

I’m happy to have this “petite femme” in my collection as it is already a classic, a must have perfume which makes you feel so elegant, a real woman like .

Good luck and be inspired 💋

smellgoods

I just purchased this fragrance. It is a nice smell--I like the green and vanilla combination. However, it is so light and does not last at all on my skin. I maybe smell it for 30 minutes max after spraying. Very disappointed!

harukacoco

I just got my second bottle.

I wear it whenever I go for the type of abstinence yet sexy look.---white silk pajama-style suits wear on bare skin, or skin tight, high neck, black cashmere knits.
That is this bottle, it is elegant, formal, luxurious, yet sensual and seductive.

The green notes gives it a sense of freshness. The angelique smells like Chinese herb medicine. It feels exotic. So far, the combination feels like a floor length, silk evening gown.

But it doesn't end there. The vanilla and pepper exude from beneath. The warmth feels like female skin. It feels almost physical. It feels like the wearer of the silk gown is eager to take off that gown, stand naked, in front of someone she desires for so much--- to let them appreciate her body, kiss her head to toe, and perform cunnilingus until daybreak.

Yet, she stands in poise. Still, the Angelique in the base note peeks through, then tangles with the vanilla, like the silk gown quietly shining under a chandelier.

bintTapputi

Green powdery opening, very 'Guerlain' smelling. There is something really delectable about it, almost gourmand but overall it's interesting facets are dwarfed by powdery notes on my skin. It begins to morph down into a creamy vanilla where it remains mostly linear until it vanishes. I think vanilla lovers will find themselves at home here. 6.5/10

Timaka

Beautiful vanilla, but turns just like Dior Addict EDP on my skin. Therefore not worth the money, however gorgeous scent in a gorgeous bottle.

Disclaimer: this is a review of the 2015 pre-formulation version, with a short note on the current version at the end.

Truly a masterpiece vanilla. The opening is a bracing green Angelica, and smells very much like the green smell you get when you are cutting herbs. Not sure what type of herb it resembles, nothing spicy like rosemary, it is unique. I think I have smelt Angelica before because it is commonly used in Chinese medication and tonic soups. Like a previous reviewer commented, the Angelica smells sugar coated. I have no idea how Guerlain does it, but I can literally smell the granular sugar texture on the Angelica stems. It is that realistic and beautiful.

And just when you think it is getting way to green, the vanillic sugar kicks in. And this tug of war between bracing green notes and the sweet vanillic notes continues for hours. A beautiful balance of green and sweet. I thought it sounded strange at first, a green and sweet masterpiece, but it truly is a beautiful rendition of duality.

Now, the reformulated juice is a sad shadow of the 2015 version. Yes there is still the green and the sweet notes, but it isn’t as masterfully done as the 2015 one. And they have added a lot of wood in it. My skin amps up spices and woods so on certain days all I smell is wood. If you find a vintage bottle, buy it. There is nothing I have smelt that is as wonderful as that. I was sad to use up my decant and purchased a new bottle only to be extremely disappointed that it smells quite different.

Ludicolo

Smells like a vanillc, soft and woody/green pear.
Like a wooden stick on a pear flavored popsicle.
It's a perfectly nice vanilla scent from Guerlain, but nothing groundbreaking.
Projection and lasting power is moderate.

disintigratedwoman

While on my hunt for the best vanilla perfume on the market, I heard more than once about Angelique Noire. And after sampling Dyptique’s Eau Duelle and hearing people compare it to this one, I really wanted to try it, as Eau Duelle is stunning but not nearly long lasting enough for me (in the EDT - not a fan of the incense in the EDP).

Finally got to try AN tonight; the angelica in the opening was unmistakeable. Very quickly reminded me of Eau Duelle, but here, the greenness and bitterness was a lot stronger. Kind of off-putting. I could smell the vanilla in the background, but it wasn’t super prominent.

Fast-forward two hours, and I have to say I like it a lot better. The angelica finally stepped down and mingled evenly with the vanilla, creating a beautiful, interesting and well-blended scent. I can actually imagine hugging a rich woman and smelling this on her (as some others have mentioned).

Overall I find it super unique and sophisticated - it has a sort of cool freshness to it from the green notes. Not your typical gourmand vanilla. Makes it both hot and cold.

Going to keep sampling this to see if this might be ‘the one’ for me. Just wish the opening wasn’t so off-putting.

To others sampling it for the first time, make sure to give it a chance past the opening! ;)

Allisonmsmith22

My all time favorite vanilla fragrance.

It was love at first sniff. Super green for the first 30 minutes then becomes the most unique vanilla I think I've ever smelled. The opening is almost too green for me, but it's really grown on me. It's just beautifully blended.

People voted this as being better suited for the winter but I disagree. I think it's perfect for the spring or summer because the vanilla stays quite light and retains the green and floral notes.

Just heavenly

dovileivaskev

Very nice vanilla, but the beginning is too green.

istvan.buda.779

I love it . Nothing feminine about it

savacsaian

I received this bottle as a gift from a fellow Fragrantica member.

It's stunning! Opens with a blast of bergamot, pepper berry and angelica with pear in the background. The pear isn't as watery as seen in other fragrances. At this point is decently herbal with a little tang. My nose translates this into artemisia somehow.

Caraway comes afloat followed by a low indole jasmine, the sweet musky vanilla is also in the background. The musk has a slight screech to it, giving the scent a little texture.

After the spice settles, I'm left with Guerlain style vanilla with a slight green cedar touch. I wouldn't consider this as creamy as other vanilla-based bombs.

Beautiful though.

Jacquis

On my skin, Angelique Noire turns very similar to L'instant Magic for the majority of its life. Still a lovely perfume but redundant in my collection (for now). It feels like a green vanilla. In the same category as Manifesto. Wearable all year in all seasons.

Perfume Beginners

Again, the combination is not new with the typical vanilla-green scent formula. However, this fragrance pushes it to a even higher position. I have smelt quite a few scents with this vibe, e.g. Thierry Mugler's aura, but the two main components do not get along with each other and it turned out to be weird on my skin. This perfume is on a totally different level in terms of its uniqueness and complexity. Vanilla provides a warm base while angelica highlights it with some greenery scent to make it not so thick and boring. It grasps a good balance between the warmness and freshness. I even think it is the best scent among the whole private collection of Guerlain.

martinezalanezi

I first smelt this fragrance at Saks Fifth Avenue following a recommendation of a favorite fragrance YouTuber. I immediately fell in love. It reminds me of something in winter, a childhood memory that I cannot pinpoint. I keep visualizing a dessert (perhaps from the vanilla sweetness), but the angelica plant is what is really striking a memory I can't pin down. Because this scent is very green and vanilla doesn't always dry nicely on my skin, I decided to get a 3mL to test it for a little while this winter. It just reminds me of Christmas and Ohio and I don't know why. Love it and only wish I could eventually purchase a full bottle.

violetbelle

Shared commonalities with Velvet Vanilla, especially in the beginning. You've met those siblings who could almost be twins? Velvet Vanilla is the cocktail dress wearing beauty in LA, and Angelique Noire is a few years older and settled into the Black tie life of NYC. Final dry down is DSQUARED Want all the way.

aris1223

I have to agree with tonkabeannie on this one. I'm not a fan of green scents , so I steared away. Last week when I was at Neiman sampling Tonka Impereal , I was curious about AN . I gave it a shot ....and OMG what a beautiful , rich, thick and cream scent!!! All week I've been craving this scent so much that I will be running to Neiman later on and picking up a bottle.

Yukio Okumura

A completely opulent, dense, thick perfume.

The combination of angelica with jasmine and vanilla form a sweet chord, but sweet as if you were smelling an angelica flower directly from the plant with plenty of sweet on top. It gets thick, it has a smoky bottom added by Caraway (Cumin)

In short, it is as if you are smelling a pretty sweet angelica flower on top, around a cloud of smoke with green touches. It also resembles the lady tree of the night.

This whole combination gave me a tremendous headache every time I used it.

Over fixing at least 8 hours. Projection of two hours.

At temperatures above 18 ° C it becomes completely suffocating.

I do not recommend buying in the dark. Test well before.
