This is a timeless masterpiece. I will forever cherish this scent.

Nova789K!

Love this bottle. Very masculine. Has everything I love and want to project. Friend throughout the day and night.

harperhilton

i've had this bottle for a little while (via a swap) and just wore it the other day and feel compelled to say: this is really very nice indeed. i got wafts of something slightly sweet-chocolatey-patchouli-ish and woody-spiced yet sheer and not at all heavy all day -- it's really well done (well duh. it's guerlain.) happy to have it. might wear again today.

First bottle type, early batches, around 2010-2011 or so.
This is one for the hall of fame of men's fragrances. Basically, It smells like the L'instant eau extreme, but with a more sharper green opeing. After that, very alike, basically the same fragrance, but even in the begining there are mere differences.

Great performance, after almost 9 hours, i sense It around me very strong. I do not own many fragrances that still go strong after that much time. Yet, like it's edp version lidge, i do not think that this pushes far from the wearers space, but in that bubble, It is freanking strong, You will sense It around You all day, and not just wiffs...strong.

Another thing with this fragrance, just like with lidge...the smell is very apreciated by men, yet women don't seem to find this fragrance appealing. Don't know why exactly, i find It to be quite unisex.

To sumarise, this has got to be one of the greatest smelling fragrences ever, especially for an Edt, just like the eau extreme version.

Apache1830

Tried an old tester that sat on a shelf for years.

Miles ahead the current version in terms of projection and longevity. The current one is weak, to say the least.

Scentwise, stronger on the cacao, a bit more heavy in a good way.

I clearly prefer this one. This one is bottle worthy. The current EDT one, I try it sometimes, and that's it, simply because it lacks character and performance.

just bought a full bottle, at first spray I find that the scent is very very strong I immediately got noseblind to it. but later i noticed the scent is a bit different from my decant I bought earlier, probably the bright orange is less & the cocoa & spices is much more prominent, SPL is just ok, nothing great about it, but the scent is really addictive I keep coming back to it, much like my platinum egoiste, a very gentlemanly scent. Not that it has any close similarity.

Ryahya

review based on sample, I love this from the first spray. fresh spicy opening + fresh cocoa dry down, this is a fresh frag this will totally works in the cold.

will get a full bottle soon

Update, got the full bottle, didn't know it was a 125 ml bottle. it was even better because I got an even better value for money. After maceration the performance gets even better.

Whateverwhocares

Sexy, semi-old school, masculine and interesting. Fresh photorealistic cacao powder, lavender, zesty natural lemon and grapefruit, aromatic sandalwood and fresh tea. All sublimated into a refined, mild concoction. I do wish it were more of a projector, and am looking forward to finding that effect when I try the eau extreme version.

Radiates just off the skin for me. Very nice take on a mature cologne. Stands apart from other fragrances that can be similarly categorized.

The Wolf

This fragrance has so many facets and is so complex that I could take 10 different people and they'd describe it 10 different ways. I have an older bottle of this beauty. It's citrus, it's patchouli, cacao, sandalwood, florals, spices (anise is prominent) it's musky. It's everything you could ever want in one perfume.

There's something about it, that is just so pure, smooth, relaxing, refined, and classy without trying too hard. This fragrance has been copied and spun off a million times by a million houses. To me, this is the quintessential French gentleman's fragrance.

What gives it that distinct French flair and is an underrated but key linchpin here, is the musk. It's something that is only found in classic French perfumery, and gives it a little sweet, tangy and slightly vinegar twang.I'd swear it's a pheromone type ingredient and you don't smell it in 99% of modern releases.

Classy, classic, and brilliant perfumery that has been often replicated, but never quite matched. New bottles I'm told have sadly lost the magic so I will cherish my vintage bottle and hopefully find another for a fair price because it's a masterpiece.

Love this on my husband. Super elegant and masculine, smooth, refined. Love the initial fresh citrus notes but the drydown with the cacao note is the best part.

hakim2005

Please avoid buying the new version of this perfume (square bottle) . It has poor performance compared to this version of which is phenomenal

Gidimeister

I encourage you to check out the review by @thegreekone below. He describes the scent as “heavy and light at once” Yes! That is the canon definition of this fragrance. It is a delicate gourmand that purrs. Think chocolate, citrus and nuts with no sugar. It's a complete fragrance.

otteromkram

Maybe I got a wonky bottle, but how is Mancera Cedrat Boise not on the "Reminds Me Of" list? This is at least 90% CB, so I felt compelled to add it.

Anyway, if you like Cedrat Boise, you'll probably like this. Do you need both? This doesn't seem as "bubbly," which might be a good thing for some.

I like it and think it works well for most occasions, but if you want a nice Guerlain for summer, l'Eau Boisée is where it's at.

gandrasta

I'd never forget how great this is as an elegant perfume to go to in gloomy day. It's not like monster trail or silage. But its cacao-patchouli combo definitely gives comfort and class. Stays 7+ hrs as skin scent, delicious musky skin scent

derby2169

So I made the ridiculous decision to grab a miniature for way too much money off of eBay.
Now there are differences to the recent EDT formula (I own the tall rectangular bottle not the square one), but I was honestly expecting a bigger quality gap.
So the opening is to my nose identical, lemon elemi with a slight anise facet. The florals are more vivid in the original the patchouli also more tenacious and the drydown less sweet and coumarin-heavy.

Generally I would consider this my absolute favorite version of l'Instant Pour Homme, even over the Extreme which is too heavy and patchouli dominant for me (still fantastic though). However I generally don't see the urgency to opt for a bottle of this one if you own the current EDT, which to my nose is about 70% equivalent and can still be found for half the price.

@SalivatingSoul-stice Exactly! Hibiscus-cacau-patchouli-anise. great blend and better than the extreme. i love it

This is a MASTERPIECE in the History of perfumery by Madame Beatrice Piquet and Guerlain ! A niche Perfume with High Quality and A lovely jewel. It is hard to find and I'm so glad that I have it in my collection. Elegant, Classy, Unique, Complex and Airy. It opens up with like fresh spicy, bitter citrusy, green, cacao and spicy notes in the background then dry down is green musky woody. The Patchouli and Cacao notes are dominant in this perfume. This is perfect for the spring, fall and winter. Longevity is good and this review is based on Vintage Bottle. I really enjoy it and I love LIDG Pour Homme EDT by Guerlain. Madame Beatrice Piquet rest in peace and forever in our hearts.
Two Thumbs Up.
Bravo Guerlain !

SalivatingSoul-stice

This is a better blend because of the hibiscus. The chocolate is there in the same capacity as the extreme version but a tad less earthy. This is just better imo

Benyamin1985

Wow. my love

ScentManJojo

IMHO it's a cleaner, soapy and better overall EDT than Dolce and Gabbana Pour Homme and Juicy Couture Dirty English. I do like the brightness of the scent on initial spraying which lasts for a couple of hours. As the juice drys down it morphs into a sweet woody close to the body scent. Great for evenings out or fall/winter office scent. A compliment getter so sure. Enjoy.

vhild

I have this, and it’s my staple in spring, love it. Has this been reformulated/repackaged? If so, for better or worse?

alfrued

It was sitting in my drawer for 10 years.
So I had to wear formal attire tonight, i gave it a try and sprayed myself 4 times.
Silage was extreme for 2 hours.
A real class in a bottle, never tried the new flankers.

The funny thing is, it is pretty similar to a hardly known perfume; ck obsession night

xterminatoru

In my mind this is how a classy dude should smell. Stunning. Really love this.

thegreekone

Beloved scent, i own it since it came out.
Can a scent be heavy and light all at once? Yes, L'instant can.
Unique and classy with strong character. I love how long it lasts on the skin and the warmth it radiates.
Recently I bought the edp version but for me,this is a little better.
Wears better during colder months.

Shaven

Even though it is released for "homme", I find it unexpectedly pleasant to wear as a woman. Most of my friends who only enjoy conventional feminine scents might hesitate but this is not too traditional masculine smelling. I even thought LIDG could pass for modern genderless hip brands. Cool, fresh and spicy opening not unlike classical cologne develops to be comfortable warm scent. There is something floral and powdery that most male perfumes do not usually have. I can pick up beautiful sandalwood that lasts from the start. Truly lovely juice. Mine is a vintage small splash.

mutatismutandis

I thought I'd try the original version of LIDG while it's still possible to get a few samples instead of taking out a mortgage to get a bottle (of the original). When I first joined this site it was all the rage. Now you don't hear about it so much.

I get an opening of lemon, bergamot, lavender, anise and a hint of smokiness from the elemi resin. About 15 minutes later once it's warmed up on my skin I find the notes are joined by jasmine and tea. There's a cleaner patchouli mint and a tiny touch of cedar and sandalwood.

Around 90 minutes in the citruses are mostly gone. There's that mint, anise, jasmine, and a hint of black tea. The combination of the smokiness from the elemi combined with the sandalwood and cedar in the background give a touch of something bitter, powdery and dusty, in which there is the tiniest hint of cocoa.

Around four and a half hours in you have anise, mint, some tea, a gentle musk, the hibiscus, and the sandalwood and cedar have become more of an accord rather than distinct notes. The dusty and powdery elements have gone.

Projection is moderate for the first few hours and then it's a skin scent thereafter. Five and a half hours in and the fading has begun in earnest. After eight hours it's very faint. It's gone after ten hours.

I don't see this perfume as being distinctly day or night wear. I think it's at home perfectly well with both. I see this as working best in autumn and winter and the cooler spring weather. It doesn't feel like a warm weather perfume for me.

It's nice and I might consider trying the newer versions at some point but I won't be chasing after a bottle of the original at the insane prices people ask for them.

I had this a few years ago, and gave it away; lost interest.
Just ordered again. It is a modern day classic Guerlain.
The Guerlain Parisians Exclusives are my favorite fragrances. I have come to respect Guerlain highly. Even their reasonable priced fragrances are great niche quality frags, like Habit Rouge, etc.

I remember comming home from a snow storm, I was cold and tired. I sprayed on L'instant and was pleasantly warmed and comforted.
It is a great fragrance.

MoKia

Such a delightful scent…It’s a multi layer , complex fragrance which is not boring at all. It starts lemony buzzy, after a few minute it becomes powdery bitter and at the dry down very refined pachuly woody scent comes to the show. Each time you get whiffs of it it takes you to a different world.
The only problem could be the performance. It stays 5-6 hrs on me & very close to the skin.
It’s an absolute love for me, so happy to finally could get my hands on a vintage bottle of it for a reasonable price.

APULIAN

l'instant de guerlain edt smells very early 00 but it's still here, surviving against any trend, any hype, any change. lidg is still a masterpiece and it's a shame that only few people gives the right spotlight to it. lemon, herbs, vanilla, patchouli and a fantastic note of cacao: this mix makes lidg a unique blend still relevant today. 4 or 5 years in my collection and i love it like the first day. now lidg fits better for people over 28, for formal and causal situations but not for sporty events. only for cold seasons. performance slightely above average on my skin(good projection for 1,5h longevity about 7h).very elegant, very french! merci guerlain!
the review is based on the old edt bottle, never tried the old extreme or old edp. i also have the current edp in the long bottle and i have to say it's quite close to the old edt. maybe the old edt is a bit brighter, richer and better performing, but the differences are not big.

I sampled this from a miniature bottle I acquired as part of a large collection of miniatures I won in an auction. If I have to guess, my bottle is from the first couple of years this was released, so probably an older formula (if it was reformulated that is). I put a small dab on the back of my hand to try it— it doesn’t open very well. Idk if that’s how it usually is or maybe because my bottle wasn’t stored properly, but it wasn’t blended well and the spiciness reminds me of something like you’d smell in a natural oil attar, and not in a good way.. too grimy. About 30 or 40 minutes in, the jumbled notes calm down and what I’m left with is actually quite pleasant. Classy, non-offensive and very pleasant, but not necessarily impressionable. It’s a scent that a gentleman would wear, not the other way around. Longevity appears to be strong because I washed my hands like 5 times since and I can still smell the basenotes off my skin.

Marxwick

The opening fifteen minutes has an overwhelming amount of spicy, herbaceous notes. Once it reaches the dry down, the resinous composition of cacao, elemi, patchouli, and sandalwood soothes the harshness and makes this a delectable scent. It projects quite well in the first two hours but dies down to a skin scent afterward. Although I have to pay a pretty penny for this 2010 bottle, it is worth it.

Mina Fouad

Simply this is 18k liquid gold !..
Easy to wear .. more fresher .. suitable with all seasons !..
Just give it 30 minutes .. then it will become LIDGE's dry down !..
Really it's much much better then the current "L'nestant EDP" !..
For sorry it become very rare and expensive but real value ..
RIP Mrs. Beatrice Piquet 🙏❤️🌹

StormBreaker81

I bought my bottle as a tester from a shop, now I only paid $60 CDN for my bottle that had about 95ml of 125ml, it dosnt last all that long and I attribute that to it being out and in lite for as long as it was, but it still has an amazing scent, I just have to spray a bit more on and a little more often or spry my clothes. I may buy another one to see if there is a real difference. but for $60 I'm happy with it

Fragaddict123

Bought it with expensive price but it was worth it found one piece only while I was traveling
Do not stop searching sometimes you hit jackpot

autumnrequiem

I can only summarize this as a delectable treat on my skin. Has an old school touch which I really like, but a bit too elegant for regular daily use. I'd rather leave that to Guerlain Vetiver which obviously smells a lot fresher.

Having said that this is really a forgotten gem and the cacao note is simply to die for. Has an air of elegance which reminds me a lot of the late 90s/early 00s for some reason. I am definitely getting the EDP version soon.

Scuervo1

L’instant de Guerlain Pour Homme, or how it is normally named by its acronym LIDG, was released on 2004 by the LVMH family. The perfumer, the late Beatrice Piquet, created a paradoxical composition that not only is fresh, clean and cologne-like, but also warm, creamy, and plush that was innovative at the time. It also important to note that LIDG battled heavily against Dior's main flagship fragrance in the Fragcomm community for the best French release in the 2000’s in the designer realm.

The opening, categorized by a sparkling lemon note, combines itself with the anise accord in order to resemble a drugstore cyphre-like fragrance that was popular in the early 1900’s and the 1970’s; it provides the foundation for the fragrance to juxtapose Guerlain’s traditional history with a modern, progressive take of spicy scents. This sharp citrus is quite strong and scratchy, reminiscing of Lysol wipes, and it will either smell pungent to some or delightful to those used to more outdated perfumes. Nonetheless, after 20 minutes, LIDG transitions to an undertone of small hints of patchouli and sandalwood, revealing a woody base that behaves as a warm and transparent tea-like structure while the brisk of sour herbal smell from the opening can still be detected underneath. Sillage is robust during the first hour due to the piercing opening, in which then it sits close to the skin after a few hours, and the longevity is unknown since I go anosmic to my 2008 sample quickly (fiancé said it smelled like “cologne” and “strong” after 3 hours).

Truthfully, it took a while to appreciate what Guerlain did to create in LIDG. The sharp citrus was hard to get costumed too, but after awhile, I wanted more of it. Funny enough, I am shocked cocoa is listed as the most noticeable note since I don’t smell any. LIDG is far from a gourmand since it makes a nod to the early elements of perfumery; therefore, it is extremely masculine, sexist, strong, and it can smell outdated in certain occasions. However, I am not sure what would be the public opinion on LIDG when is smelled by a stranger (I imagine to be polarizing). You'd be smelling formal and unique like a black tie valet attendant or as a refined wealthy sophisticated New Yorker working in a small lawyer's office. I can also imagine an elegant aristocrat monarch from Pride and Prejudice smelling like this. Overall, I like it, even though I wish it wasn't as thin or translucent in the base, in which I think is the main source as to why I go nose blind to it.

Like.

Willbno

I tried this scent right before my morning shower. Upon first wearing I was taken a back. I had confused this with Guerlain Homme so I was wondering how the notes could be so off. I let it settle for a bit. My initial reaction was that it had a medicinal vibe. Eventually it had time to dry and let its heart show. This immediately reminded of my grandfather with a fresh shave and clean linens. It was an old school masculine vibe where you splashed on cologne.
This was created in 2004 but this has a feeling that drew me back in time. It’s such a clean scent that I can picture that scent on an executive in the late 70’s/early 80’s. No matter what this is a decent scent that will not offend. You just have to get around the opening.

Guccilove

When I sprayed this wonderful perfume for the first time, I thought of roberto cavalli black. The smell and sweetness of anise are similar. Floral nuances are more vivid in Cavalli. Both fragrances perfect

Cortina1981

I’ve had this in original bottle, circa 2006.,bring back some memories...I don’t know how many juice had I spent, while I gift it to a friend. After one outing,I asked him, man, what you’re wearing??He said calmly, the one redundant, you gave me...I thought, what a fool I was!I was angry, but i didn’t want to ask it back, ofcourse.Initially, the perfume did’t blew me away,I got it as a gift, but obviously,it smells really great, but at that time i wasn’t aware of that...so many years passed, and i didn’t have an urge to purchased again, till now.And it’s going to be a new designed bottle,as I don’t want to pay 3 times more for the original bottle, although i was tempted, but no,as the juice stayed the same, what i’ve smelled from the new bottle.I’m very happy,to have this exceptional fragrance back in my rotation. It is indeed a great release from Guerlain, that stood the test of time.

Update...

After purchasing/wearing new formulation/bottle,i was completely dissapointed.I’ve just ordered the OG bottle/juice,2013.I hope the job will be done and i’ll be finally settled...so,if you want the right stuff, don’t bother with new formulation,my honest opinion.

One thing is possible! That my olfactive memory for the old bottle was not accurate, and the actually new bottle has the same performance as the old one...maybe.I will know that exactly when the old formulation comes to me,and i wear it,and will compare.I hope I was right about that, but i had to buy the old formulation bottle, otherwise,I would’ve never known. But what i remember, the old juice was far more superior, but I will wait to confirm.Stay tuned:)

No,I was right.Original bottle,2013.year.It’s not night/day difference,but this is what i remember from my former bottle.Much denser,thicker,longer lasting.I love it.Happy I got it back.

chinook

Got a sample of this because of the awesome notes list. I don’t smell any cocoa. It’s bittersweet, but more in a medicinal and herbal/spices kind of way. I can’t really tell what notes I smell. Sillage is about arm length, and several hours of longevity.

ts4r

Best flanker of the entire L'instant line up. Smells fresh and dark at the same time.

If you think about it, this was a revolution in mixing 2 polar opposites: Citruses and dark notes such as Patchouli and Cacao

Spinning@backick

Masculine, authority, confidence, i totaly cant say enough to praise this masterpiece.
Patchouly, lapsang tea, caccao, anise they are well blended, almost no rough edges in composition.

eternalscentjourney

L'instant de Guerlain is one of the gems I got to try for the first time in Indonesia.

What do say about this one. L'instant de Guerlain starts with fresh citrus, tea & patchouli notes and quickly turns into this spicy & creamy blend of cacao, anise & sandalwood. Something words can't describe. You have to put your nose on it to experience it. Of course, it's not over yet. the fragrance has many facets. It lasts very long on my skin. The dry-down has beautiful woody and musky feel to it.

This will have you smelling great. Without any doubts, sophistication bottled by Guerlain. Cannot recommend this enough.

Clownboy

I've just picked up a 2004 bottle and, whilst it's a lovely fragrance it's not "all that".

1st problem for me is how subtle it is. I don't want to choke a room but being able to smell it without digging my nose in would be nice.

It's there on my skin, I can smell it, for an hour or two at least but don't expect projection or sillage.

Like I say, smells lovely but nowhere near the projection or staying power for me. I'll be selling this on.

Disappointed.

ÔParfum!

Most elegant fragrance I've ever smelled.

Gourmand but classy.
Woody, spicy, lemony, chocolatey.

I don't think it's a polarizing one (love and hate).

It's a winning combination: love, love and love.

Rastaman

The smell is a wonder of perfume art. A true masterpiece. The only problem is that it is so subtle. I wish it could be just a bit stronger. A versatile scent for many a occasion.
I used it all through summer and loved it in really hot weather because it is so lush and the touch of citrus shines in the heat that it somehow made sense. Fall is showing it as a nice daytime scent. Wonder how it will work in winter.
All in all a scent exclusively for the wearer and for those that will be very in close contact.

Harley_84

🎼🎻 🎻🎼
Imagine sitting in front of a Chamber Music ensemble. Now imagine the musicians start tastelessly tuning their instruments, loudly and obnoxiously. The sounds of discordant tuning irritates you. You wonder if the music to come will reflect this jarring experience.
The lights dim slightly, then the magic happens, you hear the most soft and beautiful rendition of Mozart’s Eine Kleine Nachtmusik II Romanza being played. You are hypnotized by the peace and beauty that the music creates.
This is Guerlain’s L’Instant pour homme (LIDG), vintage bottle. A cacophonous opening of citrus and cocoa, leaves the wearer wondering where the scent is taking you. After a few minutes “tuning” the scent settles into the beauteous cocoa/ ambrette musk notes that envelope the wearer. Two sprays have carried me from 9:00 am to a lingering skin scent at 11:00 pm.
A soft, dignified fragrance.
P.s. A beautiful Art Deco bottle

dcjimr

This was a blind buy for me and possibly my most successful blind buy ever. It's sophisticated and elegant. Although cacao is detectible, it's not sweet and doesn't turn the fragrance into a gourmand at all. It's a bit powdery but not unpleasantly so. It's just a gorgeous combination of notes that, to me, brings to mind a very classy Parisian man. I don't know if I'd wear this in the summer, but it might work if sprayed lightly. I need to get another bottle.

FlirtBoy

I own this scent, both 75ml old and 100ml new bottle - and both smell almost identical and share a lovely cocoa note. However I can´t get any anise from any of them and I remember trying this some 10yrs back and finding it heavy on the anise almost to the point of reminding me Azzaro pour Homme with its anise note...Still I must admit, I have a soft spot for this one for being so smooth, warm and masculine scent that is adored by both me and women around me as well.

arwana77

خوش بوی لعنتی. حس کاکایو و مرکبات. مگه میشه این رو زد و بازخورد نگرفت . مناسب فصل بهار مخصوصا ایام دید و بازدید عید

This is one of my favorites in my collection. Regardless of the fact that I have never put my nose on the Extreme version of this fine fragrance, I could care less. This fragrance transports me to Paris. It is sophistication in a bottle.
What I get from this is that somewhat stays with me all day is a roasted dry cacao with patchouli and slight citrusy nuance.
This is my go to for fall and winter - easy on the trigger for work though. Enjoy!

mauriciolacruz

I grabbed many bottles of LIDG & LIDGE years ago (previous bottle design) and if I don't buy more now is simply because I don't like the current bottle design: it looks, it feels and in fact it is more fragile and it also looks generic (both: because of its shape and because many other fragrances from Guerlain share now the same bottle, what I really dislike).

I've also read that both have been watered down in the new release (new bottle).

Anyways, about the ones I have (old bottle) I can only say (like I did in my review): I JUST LOVE THEM!

grigoran1986

Super nice.. Classic.. One of the nicest and classiest bottles in the selection of mens scents ever I think

Abykhan

A manly scent, yet unique. I blind buy this along with heritage. Both smell amazing but to me, this one is my favourite. It is so smooth that you would barely notice this but after some time it will realize that you are wearing it. it is that type of smell if you don't wanna love, it will force you to love it.

Sanch

This was part of a blind buy order after reading the comments. I am absolutely loving this one! (Regretting getting Heritage as part of the blind buy)

It’s definitely a unique scent and will always be a classic scent. I’ve worn this to work a few times and get so many compliments all day long. Bang for your buck perfume perfect daily.

This is one sophisticated gentleman. Not in-your-face masculine; rather subtle, classy elegant. I love it. The first thing I smelled was a bright, almost mint scent, possibly the star anise. Then it starts to head toward a melting of cocoa, not sweet but dark and dry, and soft hint of floral, and onto the woody/patchouli that stays with the cocoa thru out the day. Fair longevity and soft sillage. Heavenly and dead sexy. My idea of the perfect gent. I only wish is that it had much better performance.

Diptak Dutta

It is an epitome of timeless classic. It exemplifies a gentlemanly persona. A beautiful woody spicy scent with a classic Guerlain DNA.

A blast of citrus at the beginning followed almost instantaneously by star anise and jasmine makes it fresh yet not hollow. With time emergence of the sweet cacao gives it a gourmand-ish edge but stays far from being a sweet tooth’s delight. To contradict the cacao, the whole profile of the scent of wrapped up in patchouli to give the scent a well defined shape. A green undertone revives the classic “gentleman’s scent” DNA from the era of fine tailored Chypres. The sandalwood makes it creamy smooth with prominence of musk in the base. It’s hard to put this scent into words, a person needs to delve into the experience to understand the beauty of this ingenious creation.

alfrued

I liked it more than l’extreme version, this is lighter and more versatile.

aaronsignor

This is one of my favorite colognes in my collection of over sixty bottles. I get compliments regularly when wearing this. Today a female co-worker said “wow you smell great. I’m just going to stand here right next to you!” Funny thing is I couldn’t smell it that strong on myself but she could smell it easily. This cologne starts out with orangy citrus top notes that dissipate very quickly into cacao. The cacao note holds on continually with some woodiness. I don’t smell much patchouli. This is such a well blended and smooth fragrance and it is versatile. It can be worn casual or formal, more in cooler weather.

Registeralloveragain

It is baffling how original this is , and very sophisticated. I get a lot of ambrette musk (hibiscus seed), and anise, patchouli, cocoa, jasmine hidden right underneath beautifully very slightly , lemon peel on top, this is so cool.

Ksj_

At first, I immediately thought of an elderly female fragrance and then something beautiful happened...

This fragrance transforms and becomes so beautiful and clean.

I wore this on Christmas and I felt like I smelled like a million dollars.

hullhockey91

Talk about a fragrance that exudes class and sophistication.

This stuff blew me away upon initial spray. I actually bought LIDGE (Extreme version) before this and I wasn't nearly as surprised with that as I was with this one.

LIDGE is almost too much patchouli. It's good, but it's almost too mature.

This version is just amazing. It suits nearly all ages, and it's a universal gentleman's fragrance.

To me, this stuff initially reminds me of Terre d'Hermes....but WAY less mature smelling. I get lots of woods, orange and patchouli. I know lemon is the main citrus note listed, but orange is what I get. Cacao starts showing as it starts drying down. It then becomes a cacao/patchouli mix with a nice citrus hiding in the background.

Gosh dang this stuff is good. This is equivalent of Dior Homme to Dior.

Class, Sophistication, Gentleman...absolutely gorgeous.

I guess I feel the need to say I have a vintage bottle....who knows if that makes any difference!

websterdaniel

Well, where do I begin? Can you say awesome!!! This starts out with a woodsy, allspice, coconut, dark mocha chocolate, syrupy, I don't know what the hell but I love it so bad, smell!!! A masterpiece in every way. Then, it goes lighter but still lingers. Definitely more of a cooler weather scent. It screams sophisticated, classy, elegant, I'm a spy, so don't screw with me if you wanna live, type of vibe. Truly a classic, a world of it's own. It lasts too, mine are edp's. The best part, I have 4 full bottles that I bought 2 yrs ago, collectors item, and I'm gonna enjoy it to the last drop!!! This is just such an incredibly made fragrance. I see that prices have sky-rocketed! Even the newer bottles seem great! I can only hope that this fragrances quality will continue.

nickelrider

L'instant is one of the smoothest, most composed mens' fragrances ... ever.

The opening is a somewhat androgynous yet exclusive refined sweet-citrus, anise and jasmine combo that yields over time to a woody, cacao and patchouli middle. The cacao note is subtle, complimentary, never overpowering and not as obvious as many have described. Some don't detect it at all. I certainly wouldn't classify this as gourmandish either. It initially projects a most beautiful ambery-sweetness (ala Guerlinade) that evolves into a glorious skin scent of earthy patchouli, cacao and musk.

The scent and bottle presentation (the old style bottle especially) is luxurious and evokes gated European Estates, six-figure cars and four-figure watches ... and how cool that the elegance, charm and style of L'instant is this accessible.

Although the composition is utterly beautiful, I agree with the many other comments about longevity being average at best. Maybe not a bad thing when in close quarters or among co-workers.

Enjoy the rich sophistication and beauty of L'instant!

grigoran1986

could Guerlain bring the old bottle back? in my opinion, the old bottle design was pure art. thanks

cassi

One thing man need to start doing to become gentleman:
Need to use L'Instant de Guerlain ;)

Registeralloveragain

This smells like very heroin/opium it is complex sweet dark purple floral musky opium

AmericanCologneGuy

L’Instant de Guerlain Pour Homme is a fantastic fragrance- often overshadowed by his boisterous, but also delightful younger brother.
I like Extrême very much, but the more reserved original seems to be a smoother composition that so easily becomes a part of me when I wear it.
This one I wear more for me.

MARTIN SR

As well as the vintage Givenchy Gentleman, L’instant de Guerlain pour Homme has a magic to bring back the memories of good old days. It is a comforting perfume, blended to the perfection. Such a masterpiece usually happens once in a decade or less. Expertly composed in a way none of the ingredient stands out. Like philharmonic orchestra - each note compliments the other one and stands next to each other in a harmony. Hands down.

WSAENOTSOCK

If anyone has a cap to a bottle that is empty, almost empty, or you just don't care for your caps, please PM me. I have (3) 4.2Oz testers that I'd like to have caps for.

Thank you all very kindly for your time, it is greatly appreciated.

This juice is impressive. Extremely impressive.

Chacmool

This has the 'Wow' factor for my nose.
Visually stunning in its commanding flacon, and with an incongruous series of invisibly blended notes to leave one on a delicious cloud at the first spray and already craving more before the first breath has ended.

Cramming my face to it for satisfaction is folly. It has to be consumed as if air, lightly taken, but with absolute necessity, and in constant supply.

This is a sensual,auto-erotic soufflé for the soul. The ideal man would smell like this. He is usurped however, for the most failed of us now have at least one of his charms.

Exquisite.

Michael3

A 10 out of 10 in my book. B4 D&G The One , there was this one. And all the others that has come after .... amazing nose , an attention getter without knocking you or the person that is lucky to indulge in this magic elixir.

sritharan_shanmugam

tried this at a Guerlain outlet, very nice but it is more of an acquired taste. Not everyone will love this but for me it is different than other scents, unique...warm fuzzy a gentleman scent deciding to buy on my wish list.

Le Knows

Bentley, Patek Philippe, L'Instant de Guerlain—all convey a similar sort of refinement and status. Men whose lifestyle provides such occasions for elegance will appreciate L'Instant as a fragrance that deftly manages to balance aloofness with sex appeal.

Ourfrank

I bought my bottle in 2014 and literally never wore but a few times. Tonight I pulled it out of my drawer and decided to give it another shot. My wife who rarely compliments what I wear, immediately perked up and told me how good I smelled. It's still floating around my skin. I'm getting a sweet and creamy, somewhat citrusy, patchouli scent. It really is quite nice. It's unique enough and nice enough to be a dressed up signature scent for someone. I'd say age range for this is 30+. To me, this is almost too decadent for casual dress.
Don't know if I will wear this much, but it is much nicer than I had remembered.
8/10 scent!

Turbo

Disgusting. Way too much baby powder, powdery, perfume, all of it just doesn't mix well. Like Armani Code or Dolce The One, but not mixed nearly as well. The other 2 work, this one does not. Gross.

Michael3

This is the scent that put into motion D&G "The One" ,"Dior Homme" "Silver Shadow" Davidoff.
I have these and other flankers , but none come close to this one the balance of the ingredients in this bottle is perfect in every way. If there is such a rating of a perfect 10/10 this would be one of them.
In fact the Silver Shadow I feel comes closest to the Guerlain. It is slightly sweeter. The "Intense"version of L'Instant is also a force to be reckoned with.Rich, Elegant, Masculine without an over powering presence. This pedigree of a fragrance and design house that has lasted for well over 100 years says a lot!
I believe this scent, this bottle is worth every nickel.

gedlive

I hadn't used this in a while, and forgot what a great classic this is.
I use mostly niche fragrances now, but this is going back into a frequent rotation for Fall and Winter.

When you feel like wearing a nice, warm, all around aromatic; and your tired of the generic Bleu, Savage, The One type fragrance, this is the "one" for me.

This is warm and smooth, sophisticated, yet it has the playful fruitiness of the orange note. The bit of Anise gives it a sharp masculine edge. And everyone loves chocolate.

I don't care for the current formulation of the edp Extreme version. I think it has too much anise. And beware it's nothing close to the Vintage Extreme version.

MojoBaby

At first I thought this was too much of a fancypants fireplace smell I also thought the lemon was a bit strange but now I feel like I know what the lemon note is it's actually like a lemon cake smell not a lemon fruit smell. Its got a cacao smell thats more pronounced in the dry down along with some herbal tea smell thats very well blended, patchouli and sandalwood create a creamy older gentlemen vibe. When I smell this I think of a very intelligent well groomed gentleman having tea in a fancy restaurant with an old collegue discussing world events and what not. Overall a nice scent if you know what you are getting into.

D-Bo

I don't like this one very much. I bought it blind and am having a bit of buyers remorse. I have worn this like 2 times since I purchased it in the early summer. It smells like nothing in my opinion. It lacks character and depth. This is maybe the most boring fragrance I own. I apologize to those who really like this, but I just really can't start anything with this bland fragrance.

The best way to describe this fragrance to me is this... Imagine eating a chocolate cake that had no sugar in it. Then someone comes up with an idea to sweeten it using an orange. Yes, that's how bland this is.

SultanNahyan

I like it although it's not my top 20. It's got a lot of feminine flowers in it mixed with wood smell which is interesting. But it doesn't seem to last very long on my skin.

rommelmorales

I love it!!

Tazahr

Is it nice smelling? Yes it is.

Does it deserve the hype? I guess no.

It is an average fragrance in my opinion, the opening is very lemony with powdery chocolaty dry-down which is the best part.

It reminds me little bit with D&G the one.

I have the EDT version with the new packaging. Projection is powerful but longevity is avergae.

Update:

I must admit that after wearing this enough and trying so many other fragrances, it started to grow on me. I find it so comforting and classy and I believe I didn't give it the credit it deserves.

Heetkin

Sentence Summary:

This reminds me of the smell of a Xmas stocking containing, amongst other things, a Satsuma and Terry's Chocolate Orange, with someone sticking a brew on in the background. Very nice, if a bit light.

Overall rating 8/10

A creamy lemon fragrance that actually works in cold weather. It reminds me of the citrus trees in the Mediterranean in February.

Distinguished… For gentlemen only…

L’Instant de Guerlain Pour Homme is a timeless classic. It exemplifies class and a gentlemanly persona. The blend of floral, citrus, and musk notes is a beautiful creation from the house of Guerlain. My only issue with this fragrance is performance – what a pity that longevity was only 3+ hours and at less than arm’s length projection. It was still (barely) detectable on clothing for a longer period. The upside to L’Instant is that it is a great scent and quite flexible to be worn across seasons and to all outings – even close quarters or office settings. If projection were greater, this would be a total compliment magnet.

All said, my final tally for Guerlain’s L’Instant is 4.0 stars out of 5 stars. If performance were better, this fragrance would easily be in my Top 5. If you are in search for an “easy on the nose” fragrance that smells great with flexibility, I highly recommend adding to your collection. You will love it… It is class and a gentlemanly persona. Otherwise, for the collectors wanting a “little more punch” from a fragrance, take a pass. I am sending out a “Like” for the Fragrantica community.

Enjoy your day and happy fragrance hunting…

First the edp had black edges and the edt was a clear bottle. Then the bottles got the same with diffrence in the edt-edp writhing and now they are in totally new bottles.

wxmath

Mine says Parfum as well...I believe it is the same as pictured though...same notes, etc.

TonkaTOMMY

Real quick guys. There must be EDT and EDP of this pictured bottle. Mine does not say extreme, and has clear edges, as an EDP

TonkaTOMMY

I have this scent. Its the same bottle, clear edges, but it says parfum.. Deep chocolate, rich and unique. I absolutely LOVE this scent. Top 5. It pushed pure malt down sadly. How could anyone not LOVE this scent? Seriously. Keep ur bottles people. U will someday enjoy it. Im 25 and rocking the fuck out of this. 1 to 2 sprays MAX. All day. This is how you make a frag

mapache

Recieved the bottle shown above..today.
I wanted to purchase this because I see they have a newer....diferent bottle out now...I was afraid of re-formulation possiblities...
This scent is a Guerlain masterpiece IMO. I had previously only tested it in stores and had sample/decants of the EDT and the Extreme versions.
This EDT is wonderful..just as I remembered it. I re-sniffed my decant of Extreme..and..now I want THAT in a full bottle too !!! But, I will pay extra for the older version..for sure !!!
Happy camper today !!!
I don't get as much cacao in the EDT compared to the Extreme....so having both is ok to me.

Mishary

This is something unique. This is where you can be special. This is where you will forever remember the scenes that happened with this scent.

I use it when I travel. And every time I spray, I remember the best moments in my previous trips.

Some fragrances deserve to be part of your best moments and this one is one of them.

For Longevity: it is very good.

For Sillage: it is good but not very good.
And I prefer to have a good Sillage rather than a very good so that I enjoy how it comes and goes rather than bothering me all the time.

wxmath

Cacao lovers delight. This is a nice elegant fragrance with a moderate sillage so don't expect beast-mode with this. The cacao and lemon combination is really interesting and quite pleasant. I wish sillage were a little greater, but other than that, one of my faves in my collection.

nerd9891

Blind bought this based off the great reviews, and my 2.5 oz. bottle arrived today. Not gonna lie, I'm very disappointed. Disappointed in myself that is for not buying a bigger bottle. Man this is nice! High quality, and class all the way. Cooler seasons for sure, but I think you can pull this off in the spring and possibly summer. This is my first fragrance from this house. Anyone have any other suggestions?

Yes, this smells like the scent pyramid listed, and like everyone here describes. That being said, my first impression: I was reminded of Playdoh; my wife's first impression: "smokey leaves" In retrospect I smell the smokiness she described. This fragrance is a like, the extreme version is a love. The extreme version is more dark chocolaty/even more reflects notes listed. The extreme version is very clearly a Guerlain.

MojoBaby

Opening is like a strange(not bad) lemony chocolate tea but the dry down is heavenly I just have no idea how anyone could make this their signature unless they wear suits all the time this fragrance isn't rip your clothes off panty dropper sexiness but it's definately intriguing and intelligent and it commands attention with its depth and complexity I like it a lot I just think it's limited its such a classy formal fireplace smell.

Neo Ramaphoko

People are sleeping on Guerlain Creations really, well, where im from they create oil based perfumes that by fluke they smell similar to the originals for those that cannot afford. Pathetic really, Well thank god they failed to fascimile this masterpiece. Best creation by far and best smelling that any sexy man can want. Just annoyed it is hard to find.

sagarjanvekar

This is far uplifting and creative than EXTREME, I love this and it lasts madning hours.

adypress

My first Guerlain fragrance. Absolutely love this juice. Got a compliment from a female, she said it smelled great and was not too overpowering. I get a powdery c I coach vibe and get 6 to 8 hours longevity out of this.

smoj

Absolute Masterpiece.. today i got a lot more lemon in the opening then usual. perfect for spring/summer in my opinion. along with Dior homme intense this bottle will always be on my shelf.

can't wait to try the extreme out!

nguyenvuhungvuong

Test it today, smell very sharp and character. I feel like this is a man version of Parfum Regine's Zoa Night. They smell familiar. Very sexy but it mekes me headache. So sad.

This fragrance smells like Pledge furniture spray. Very lemony,

reglisss34

Layer it with any vanilla scented body balm or moisturizer ...it s gorgeous !!

Rizkyahya

Idk why its classified citrusy because what i find was all woody. But dont get me wrong, this is a very good fragrance. Lasts up to 10 hour on my skin and has good projection as well.
It is quite mature, yes, but very classy at the other hand.
Not for everyday use imo, but should be on your arsenal for special occasion

carlosfedericocanas

Starts with a Citrus blast but not overpowering, after a minute or two it develops into a cacao nutty fragrance, that is very gourmandise.

The cacao is warm and soothing, the citrus never really disappears, who will think that cacao and citrus will blend super nice together.

The projection is moderate and non offensive, lasts about 10 hours on my skin.

In my humble opinion the best gourmand i have had the honor to test.

Bottledbull

I didn't like this at first ...I found it a bit too old fashioned and dusty smelling but after a few wearing's I've done a complete 180° ..this is now for me borderline masterpiece ..i get lemon , tea and chocolate expertly blended ..what a crazy mix that takes a bit of initial getting used too, I think it confused me at first (those quirky french again) as I've never worn a fragrance like this but I don't think I'd like to be without it now for the rest of my days. I think it suits a guy in his thirties+ but respect to a younger crowd if they give this a go. Comparable to dior homme in terms of complexity and the way it's blended but not in how it smells. Performance wise I dont get a great deal of longivity unfortunately, approx 2 hours of note worthy performance and then a further two as a light skin scent but at the price point I just keep spraying all day and will replace.

VJG

@Guerlian- Isn't it time for a flanker like L'Instant Eau de Frachie de Guerlian 2017. Same bottle but fresher juice. Something supportive of the upcoming summer. Please think about it

shalimaraddict

This is one of the best scents Guerlain has offered in the last 15 years. I like it better than the Extreme/EDP version personally. I think it has more depth and nuances than the other version. One of my favorite masculine scents. It's classy, which is no surprise as it is Guerlain. I love this so much! It's perfect for any occasion, whether it's at the office or going out.

Bought this blind trusting that Guerlain is a stamp of quality in itself, having been given the opporturnity to test several of their fragrances. Doesn't attack on me instantly, begins with some flora; jasmine I think, and anise. Cocoa and citrus follow once it settles on you for a moment.

I find that this fragrance is somewhat difficult to smell on yourself. It doesn't breach through your nostrils, it's invincible, but others are certain to take notice. I love cocoa and lemon/bergamot so yeah, it works for me. A safe and an elegant choice! Short to moderately long lasting. Also received some comments on people being able to pick it up from a distance.

This 1 is miles better than extreme. Pardon Nasomatto is inspired by LIDG

mauriciolacruz

L'INSTANT DE GUERLAIN EDT / LIDG (2016):

It's a unique fragrance. It's somewhere in between "fresh" (more than the EDP version) and woody-spicy, with certain sweetness touch to it (chocolate-anise vibe that it reminds sort of coconut to my nose.) It's not heavy / incisor at all, in fact I personally find it absolutely exquisite in every aspect: perfectly balanced (the blend is more than good, it's just perfect), delicious opening and dry down, raw materials of high quality, natural smell (nothing chemical), correct projection and longevity. I'd say it's a distinguished 4×4 "all terrain", classy, distinguished and with a slight old-school vintage touch to it, nothing out-dated but modern. Its extreme versatility makes it matching perfectly all seasons, day and night, what in other hand means that it doesn't shine especially in any particular ambient, because there are fresher ones for Summer, warmer ones for Winter and other ones better focused for nights, dating and seductive purposes (more sexy); although its aroma is, like I'm saying, exquisite and with such a versatility that's really hard to match. It results to be really delicious and tremendously equilibrated, in the opening as well as in its dry down. A true masterpiece.

L'INSTANT DE GUERLAIN EDP / LIDGE (2016):

The differences with the EDT are: the EDP is more dense and spicier, less fresh and less sweet, even a bit incisor (too spicy perhaps) especially in the opening. It's less versatile. I don't find it to be as equilibrated and "rounded" as the EDT, although it does certainly have more longevity. Its dry down is better than its opening, but I still think the EDT is a better aroma overall and a more equilibrated scent, in spite of having less (yet good enough!) projection and longevity than the EDP. Both have true class, but versatile class.

SUMMARY:

I'd say both are suitable for all seasons, day and night, with an outstanding versatility (right in the middle of freshness and warmness), being the EDT even more versatile than the EDP. Suitable for all occasions. Although you have to bear in mind that their 4×4 "all terrain" capabilities (versatility) make them also shining less than others in certain seasons or situations. Even so, their aroma (especially the EDT) is truly original and delicious. Whereas the EDP is good, really good indeed, but the EDT surpasses it, it's simply PERFECT.

BOTTOM LINE:

I do prefer the EDT version (LIDG) over the EDP version (LIDGE).

It's both: more refined/equilibrated and more versatile. Yet classy.

It's neither too citrusy (fresh) nor too oriental (spicy-harsh) or gourmand (dark and dense), but something in between all three (like in the middle of the triangle), thanks to the right mix of citrus, anise, wood, cocoa/chocolate, etc, making it just perfect for all year-round use.

The EDT comes to be a perfect candidate to be chosen as a signature scent.

Opening:
EDT = 9.5/10 >>> Delicious, very equilibrated and nothing harsh / incisor.
EDP = 7/10 >>> Too spicy.

Dry down:
EDT = 9.5/10 >>> Exquisite and addictive.
EDP = 9/10 >>> Much better than its opening.

Projection:
EDT = 7.5/10
EDP = 8.5/10

Longevity:
EDT = 7/10
EDP = 9/10 >>> A true winner.

Ricardinho

Not a bad fragrance at all, but I hope the Eaux Extreme EDP is better and more versatile then this one.

This isn't a 'happy' smelling fragrance, but it's definitely sophisticated and elegant.

If you're under 30 years old, you probably will feel a bit awkward wearing this. I did..

People said I 'smelled old' when I had this fragrance on. I'm 26 btw.

Lemon Lime

I would never be bothered to describe the notes of this beautiful offering because what is much more important to me is the way it makes me feel.

I love everything about this fragrance. Its name, the bottle, the smell. It produces an enveloping, uplifting and warm sensation resulting from the ingenious reconciliation of the opposing trends in masculine vs feminine perfumery.

I love the alternating olfactory perception. A game of contrasts. Use LIDG when the weather is hot and it's bright, sparkling, hesperidic. Use it in winter and it's balmy, calming & smooth.

LIDG's edible everlasting lemony vibe, infused initially with anise and then sprinkled with cocoa, is so harmoniously mixed with further warm and creamy notes, that resembles the type of upper class gourmand dessert you would enjoy in a fancy French restaurant.

Along with Dior Homme, one of my favorite choices for my private aromatherapy evenings at home, especially when I crave for a discreet yet embracing scent.

Inviting, comforting, delicate & fresh.

I m not sure is this the real EXTREME because i have bottle like the one on this picture it says everything what this picture show but also says on the bottle EXTREME and it is EDP...

But have to say that the fragrance is something that i can not describe, something out of this world,i don't know how to say...Opening note is more then EXTREME then the dry part is one of the best thing from this prefume...One word "Monster"...It was a blind buy after reading all those comments and reviews, today i have received my bottle and i m more then happy with the sillage and longevity and also SCENT :)))))))))...

Semisweet Cocoa-patchouli. That is this fragrance broken down into a simple three word definition which also sounds catchy.

I've had this frag for a few days now, it is the current formulation (no black borders around the main body of the bottle), but I can say without a shadow of a doubt that patchouli is the main centerpiece with this one.

It's a very well blended frag, you get that earthy/potting soil smell with the patch from beginning to end, but the cocoa and other notes round out the "dirtiness" quite nicely into a very elegant, soft and almost subtly upscale fragrance. Great for evening wear, cooler days, office, suit wear and even date-night. It seems like it is very versatile. At times it reminds me of D&G The One EDP for some reason, as there is this fresh "cologne-y" kind of smell that comes and goes that I can;t quite put my finger on.

If you are a fan of patch, I imagine you will love this one. And likewise if you don't like the earthy potting soil smell of patch, then you probably won't like this one at all. I would say this is a 55% dominant patchouli frag, smoothed out by semi-sweet cocoa and other notes (the other 45%).

It is a very pleasant blend, I don't really have any patch dominant frags in my collection (aside from some pure patchouli frag oil... and of course the beast-mode A*Men), so this is a nice change of pace to have a patch dominant frag that is elegant, soft and easy-going.

People my first. I need guidance.
I just did buy it at amazon germany, but the perfume looks different. First its an unisex EDP versiom 80ml. Bit I cnanot find in any site this version. Even on the guerlain site. the perfumes top can is transparent and not black. There is no lpurple colour like the feminine one. And the longevity/sillage are bad.
Can anyone guide me to check its original or a fake? I could not imagine Amazon would let fake productos vendors on its site
Sorry for my english.

Beautiful classy fragrance! I get an elegant anise-ish cocoa perfectly blended off the initial blast! Just ever so slightly sweetened. Dries down to an elegant powdery cocoa. The EDT is a bit weak in longevity, must be sprayed multiple times... 4 to 5 to get a decent 4 to 6 hours IMHO. The L'Instant de Guerlain Extreme version has much better longevity and stronger ... though just a tad spicier I feel... blast 2 sprays and you're good for the day. For overall scent I love the EDT... for overall power, the Extreme version is the way to go. Either way, it's worth getting a bottle.... I bought both versions and use them depending on what I want.... EDT intimate.... or Extreme hanging out or formal. Two thumbs up for L'Instant de Guerlain!

FlirtBoy

no anise here? I remember trying this some time ago and getting very bright anise note which reminded me of Azzaro pour Homme. L´Instant is a nice stuff btw.

Yowzer-Pei

I bought this wonderful gourmand-ish perfume (EDT) for a winter dinner recently after a smell wearing test against the newer L'Homme Ideal (EDT version). Was initially disappointed as the first blast from the sample didn't scream 'gourmand!' like the LHI's cherry but decided to leave both on to develop over the day.

I am very glad I did as this wonderful and very tasty smelling cacao note started appearing bit by bit. It eventually developed into a great smelling drydown which was very warm, comforting and as some have reported, quite sensual long into the night. My bias towards cacao smells (I love chocolate!) likely swayed my purchase decision but there has been no regrets since.

One thing I learnt with this experience is to always allow a Guerlain to develop as the drydown is where the good stuff is. Overall 9/10 with great longevity and moderate projection. Need to check out the EDP in the future too. YUUMMMMM!

Edit: It worked great over the winter dinner. Was feeling fuzzy all night!

This was my first 'modern' Guerlain, after delving into the house's iconic early 20th century fragrances. And I have to say, I was surprised by how old-school L'Instant feels. That said, I was equally surprised by its contemporary twist.

L'Instant opens with a bright but powdery burst of lemon. As it settles down, patchouli and sandalwood become more prominent, as does the 'Guerlinade' accord. I typically associate the smooth Guerlain signature with a vanilla-citrus accord, but L'Instant has no vanilla - so the Guerlinade here must be due to the musk and creamy lavender playing off against the citrus.

So far, so classic. What makes L'Instant so contemporary is the use of cacao. This is no gourmand, however - the cacao is dry and ever so slightly bitter, yet still warm and raunchy. It's a wonderful note because it plays to the other notes' strengths - the sweetness of the patchouli; the powderiness of the citrus; the smoothness of the Guerlinade.

On my skin, projection is weak to moderate, but those close to you will definitely detect it. Longevity is good. It's a very versatile scent - you can wear it during the day to the office, or at night romantically. All in all, it's a contemporary classic with an old-school bent. Well done, Guerlain.

This is a likable and well-priced fragrance. Many claim this is some sort of a masterpiece and peak in perfumery. I'm in no position to comment on this, but personally I tend to save those feelings of awe and delight for most Creed compositions.
This is a predominantly powdery-citrus smell a la Chanel, but with a very nice grassy, green-tea like feel. There might be a splash of cocoa, but I can barely sense it. Wearing this to me feels like swimming in an ocean of green tea with a lemon in it.
A fresh scent with some edgy grassy character that will definitely sit well in a variety of occasions. A very universal smell also, maybe a bit more suited for daytime rather than the night.

Asylumin

Masterpiece, but surely not for clubbing young crowds. Perfectly fits for 30+.

koret

the opening smells like sour lemon and tea, its fresh but there's little warmer on the back.

after 15 mins it smells like D&G the One, almost 80% if you smell it on air. if it smelled on skin its not that good.

tho its smelled a bit mature but i can see myself wear it (im 22)

this is super seductive! got huge load of compliments wearing this.

obviously not for summer outdoor, can be used daily, but perfect for date with your significant other.

love the blast of grapefruit at start i don't get much of the cacao which i was hoping for ,suppose i will have to get the extreme version too oh well its only money lol after dry down smells like tom ford for men ,not a bad thing in my book they both remind me of my dear old pops sadly missed but will always live on when i wear these fragrances .

gelo999

Excellent Guerlain fragrance.

Basically it is powdered citrus with a touch of cocoa and drying woody-balsamic.
The resin elemi, sandalwood and musk perfectly assembled citrus and causes during drying continue to feel that citrus-fruit timeless and elegant in the vein of the classic Chanel initial concept, yes, the particular note cocoa makes distance itself from these.

The character feels too classic and elegant for my taste, but the result is fantastic to overlook the very good quality of this fragrance, and even more so if we consider its excellent value for money.

Can't quite place this scent. Maybe it's the cacao factor which intrigues me. Overall a very nice, pleasing, cosy smell... probably just like drinking a hot cup of choco on a cold day!
Anyways I digress. This falls somewhere in my top 25. Nice to have in the arsenal and suits well for the office or wherever. No real wow factor here so its a 4 out of 5 for me, but still recommended.

abdul hammad

The lemon in this one smells very synthetic. The rest is
the smell of a mature woman. Nothing for a man here, especially a contemporary man.

Longevity and sillage on the other hand are great, but what is the use of such lasting power if the scent is disappointing.

A total pass...sorry fans.

gedlive

I had put this away for Spring and Summer, but it's a cold, rainy Spring day in Baltimore today, so I dug out, and really enjoying it. It's a warm, woody, chocolaty comfort scent. It has a nice touch of orangy freshness, and it's a little sweet, not to much, dry enough to make it only borderline gourmand.

I like this much better than the edp Extreem version, which has to much anise and dryness, not to pleasant for me. The vintage extreem is to expensive now, but I think it's much better than the current formulation.

This is one of those scents that I've neglected to wear for a long time, but I've recently rediscovered. I think it is a masterpiece. It's well rounded, very woody and deep. A lot of people prefer LIDGE, but I like this one just as much. They are different. LIDGE is very heavy on the patchouli, but this is a stunner of a scent.

dexo91

Masterpiece.
Well blended and balanced fall/winter scent.
It's starts with blast of mixed citrus and warm spices,
and goes into a dirty cacao scent. Must have in collection.

I don't know how to describe this scent. It's clean at the opening and make me feel like at senior high school but the dry down make me feel like an exhausted young executive having beer and flirty feeling after office.

Love it.

Perfect for after dark, this is the sexiest Guerlain masculine. Complexity and deep bass notes, but with a civilised, rounded edge that keeps everything held back a little. I think I'm alone on here in disliking the bottle, with its great chunk of brown plastic.

A surprsing old school scent of the 2000s, and surprisingly good it is. I'd say it's the best within its range since Escada Pour Homme - at least. And more impressive than the female counterpart, by the way.

Guys this is a remarkable fragrance -- I love the anise and cocoa notes in it!

L'Instant de Guerlain is one EDT that I reach the most often when the weather gets really chilly outside (alongside Prada Amber pour homme Intense): it really cuts through the cold!

My favorite fragrance from the house of Guerlain (although L'Homme Eau Boisée is not far behind!)

What a masterpiece!
Wasn't too sure what to think of this on my skin at first - a very dry, powdery blast of cacao with some sharp citrus accords - but after 10 minutes... HOLY MOLY.

Absolutely, without a doubt one of my favourite scents. Really well-rounded, while balancing that sweet chocolatey vibe with bright floral and citrus. Great projection and good longevity. Winter better hurry up because I will be bathing in this!

L'Instant is a grown up, literate, friendly, mellow person on a bus.

A cordial informal meeting in an overstressed and over conflicted world.

Semi bright at times but mostly autumnal and cautiously gourmandy. If you ask politely you can have a cocoa covered toffee. But just one, no more.

Still, despite its qualities - just an everyday fragrance, don't expect Romantic poets or Indiana Jones to pop up and whisk you away.

tijgetje

Masterpiece of Guerlain! My husbands 3th bottle! I so love this parfume. It's perfect for those cold cosy winterday's. He loves it as well ;-) The lavander , anise, cacoa and elim raisins stand out on his skin.

The parfume holds on for ever. Very good sillage. Beautyful bottle as wel.

On route to a reformulation again? Apparently the packaging will be down graded to the habit rouge-vetiver rectangular falcon. My guess is with a chocolate-brown sticker. Shame. I loved this bottle. An art deco inspired flacon with a suited bakelite cap that recalls that glamorous era. I guess we better stock up on old juice while it's still affordable. There's loads on ebay.

I had one bottle of LIDGE (2013) and i have one bottle of LIDGE(2015),longevity and sillage are great but I'm very disapointed about LIDG. Yes it's smell like LIDGE but sillage is very poor. Veeeery close to skin. If you can buy LIDGE

So I owned LIDG previously, and in a moment of sheer idiocy I swapped it for some reason. Well after a year or so I finally got this masterpiece back in the collection alongside it's darker younger brother, LIDGE.

Many others have described how this smells so I won't repeat. What an incredible fragrance is all I will say, happy it's back in the collection and this time it's here to stay. Like LIDGE this is basically a perfect fragrance, I love both equally for slightly different reasons. My favorites from the house of Guerlain.

Tom Petitgrain

Someone asked me what this smelled like. I sent them pictures of a French patisserie and French actor Jean Dujardin. "Hold these two images in your mind," I wrote. Citrus and spice and that Guerlain perfection that has me oh-so hooked. (Is there just a tiny yeast accord in there?). One of the handsomest bottles on my shelf. Comforting, warm, elegant...

michalc

Incredibly well-balanced fragrance that smells great, I mainly get citrus at the beginning which is mostly lemon and a bit of lime, mixed with the cocao backed up by some soft and subtle woods. The strange and disappointing thing is that I get no projection off this, 10 sprays literally gives me an instant skin scent, it feels like water but it does last a long time. I find this happens with the Extreme version but ofcourse amped up, so average proje tion with 12+ hours longevity. It's a very classy, sophisticated fragrance that is still a fantastic casual scent for anybody with a slightly mature style/personality. Such a versatile fragrance, it's sometimes nice to have a quieter, more subtle scent but this is unfortunately not bottle worthy for me due to how weak it is, after 1hr it just turns into a plasticy-smelling mix of powdery cocao and a mix of sandalwood, cedar and a fair bit of dry patchouli.
It's a great scent and the opening is beautifully well-balanced and just so sophisticated yet versatile and casual in it's own way. It's like a casual scent for a mature guy, not like most obnoxious juvenile sweet scents that are popular nowadays.
Scent: 10/10
Projection & Sillage: 2/10 practically non-existent
Longevity: 7/10 Around 6hrs which is decent for a lighter scent like this

landshark321

L'Instant de Guerlain Pour Homme comes off as a good balance of fresh, spicy, and woody elements, especially at the opening, after which the citrus freshness fades. The citrus notes listed are bergamot, lemon, and grapefruit, but I don't specifically get any of those. The anise and jasmine also figure prominently in the opening, which is slightly cloying but also intriguing.

The cacao in the heart seems to draw a lot of attention, and if it's there, it's limited, but it's definitely submissive to the some of the other heart and base notes, like sandalwood and cedar. The base has some patchouli to give it an earthy resonance throughout its dry down.

Projection and longevity are both strong, especially for an EDT, though, not, say, in the A*Men or 24 Gold range of EDT power.

This reminds me of Chanel Pour Monsieur in terms of scent and the blend---both very classic, masculine options that work the fresh/spicy/woody blend very well. It also of reminds me of Bleu de Chanel in the sense that the individual notes are secondary to the art of the blend.

It's very inexpensive on fragrancenet ($29 for 50ml, $39 for 100ml) so it's an unusually good value at those price points. This could certainly be a man's signature scent, at the intersection of several categories, and strong, but not overwhelming. This certainly increases the hype for the extreme version, which I intend to try soon.

If I was to review this in the first 5 minutes of the experience, I'd give it a 0/10 and hate it forever. For the first time I tried, I seriously thought the bottle went bad.

After no more than 5 minutes the first top notes that aggravated me goes away and it becomes an incredibly delicious scent. 10/10.

Phew!

For me this is a classic (maybe I mean typical) Guerlain men's fragrance: rugged, masculine, and refined. It has that familiar underlining Guerlain note that I cant quite put my finger on, but it is in a lot of their men's fragrances (maybe its the musk).
L'Instant is mostly anise, cedar, resin and musk. I swear I smell vanilla and leather too but neither of those notes are listed. I just can't get into the vanilla/leather vibe I get from this.
All in all, a safe masculine scent that will appeal and many, albeit a bit safe and non descript for me.
Not a bad blind buy or gift, but not a first choice to me. Thumbs sideways on this one.

Tremere

As I write this, I'm sitting in my GP's waiting room. I suspect it has always been a fine line between too much and not nearly enough and so too since cave days a corollary decision as to whether you are at the pointy end of a mammoth hunt, supporting on the flanks, or the guy carrying extra spears. I'm an introvert by inclination and, overcompensation being a thing, I'm the dandy at the centre of the room, trying to be invisible by drawing attention to myself.

Even so, and even back in the day, whether it was through a wall of cigarette smoke or smudge pots in the men's hut, OTT was OTT. A doctor's waiting room all the more so, the environment one of symbolic as much as actual asepsis, and every possibility someone might genuinely be ill with who knows what.

Here L'Instant de Guerlain Pour Homme is a tonic and the specific for what ails me, i.e. the spirit of the age. Restrained, refined, and effortlessly sexy. Quite a bit like my GP, as it happens.

basti.onehouser

This Scent is somthing very special to me, because it's the first scent I really loved from the first second and I just bought it for myself.
Of course I like/love my other scents, too, and I got some "Stars" of the fragrance community, but this one was different.
Normally I always take a girl with me, when I'm in the perfumery and ask her if she likes it, a few days later I come back and try the scent again, and again, and then I buy it.
But this time I went in, sprayed it on and just was totally convinced by the first sniff.

It opens with somehow warm Citrusses. The anis gives this spicy warm tone to the bergamott and lemon.
And even if it's not mentioned in the Notes, I can get a small hint of Cinnamon in there.

Then it dries down to a warm, woody, citrusy Gourmet smell.
Before I looked up the notes, I was pretty sure to smell some oakmoss and iris, a little bit like Dior Homme, but not as strong. But I think I misinterpreted the mix of cacao, patchouly and sandalwood.

After all, I'd really say this has niche quality!
I also tried the EDP, but I think the EDT fits better to me, cause I'm only 25 years old and the EDP smells somehow mature.
Also I think the EDT is more versatile.
You can wear it day or night, at work or for a Date.

The opening of L'instant de Guerlain is very similar to Tom Ford for men, very citrusy and sharp (in a good way though). In fact it smells similar as TF for a long while. I would not be able to tell the difference between this and TF. Some people say that it is for the older crew but I must say that it is not true. It is not unique but it definitely is classy and modern for anyone above 16 y.o. Guerlain knows exactly what they are doing in comparison to all these designer companies that are marketing hundreds of disgusting colognes each year which are all similar. The projection is the only issue with this one.

Tassio12

This is the fragrance that has unequivocally proven that quality doesn't need to come from a niche house, and it doesn't need to cost hundreds of dollars. This scent is unique, versatile, well-blended, complex, and high quality.

The complexity starts off in the first seconds. The fragrance starts out as a blast of citrus and anise. The citrus dominates the top notes, but the anise is present enough to let you know immediately that this fragrance isn't going to be your typical designer citrus.

The dry down is complex and in my experience, can vary quite a bit under different conditions (indoor/outdoor, temperature, etc.). About ten minutes in the signature cacao makes a strong play, pushing the citrus to the background. The cacao is joined by a beautiful supporting cast of sandalwood, tea, patchouli, and musk, creating an absolutely symphonic dry down, complete with what I would consider four movements (including the opening). In these movements the cacao is always king, with all of the supporting notes playing off of each other in different ways as time goes by.

Performance is what it should be for a classy scent like this. There's no beast mode here and that's exactly the way it should be.

BriantheFragranceNewb

This is an interesting fragrance for me. It starts with a pretty strong citrus blast. After about 30 minutes, the citrus dissipates and I start picking up the cocoa bean, sandalwood, and, patchouli. After a few hours, the sandalwood and patchouli are still sticking around. The performance in my skin is very solid. I enjoy this one.

Dr.ThraX

I'd say its nice .. but it's not that ( waw ) kinna perfume .. I didn't like the opening , but after that , it gets much better . Besides it's better on skin than clothes .

Manny44

@Koceff LIDG has always been a low projection fragrance. You will smell it on yourself and the person you are intimate with will smell the cocoa and patchouli but other than that, the citrus and projection will only last about 45m to an hour.

I went to a local store and tested ir both LIDG and LIDGE. Both smelled 99% the same on my wrists so I tought I'll buy LIDG online becouse it is 125ml and cheaper so more bang for the money i guessed. The thing i didn't know at the moment was that I was testing the old and the new LIDGE with the clear bottle same as LIDG. So when i got it I tought i got a bad bottle but i went to 3 local stores and compared it( i made sure it was the EDT this time :) ) and it was the same as mine, nothing different.
It smells kinda strange to me. I sprayed it on me, a friend and my girl and all got the same result, low sillage, very close to skin and about an hour of longevity. All i get are some citruses and smth kinda spicey and as soon the cacao and patchouli started to appear the thing backed down so much i can hardly detect it and stayed like that for some time before it's totaly gone. I sprayed on my shirt and left it in the closet for 24 hours. After that i smeled it and BOOOM!!! there it is,the gorgeus smell i tought this is with lots of cacaoo and patcouli still going strong. Not projecting much, about 2-3 inches but still strong. I don't know what is the problem here. My initial tought was, great,i got a bad bottle. But after i made sure that is not the case i tought that mu skin does not work with this at all but it didn't work on another two friends allso. So i have no idea what is it. Could it be the weather? Summer just enden here few days aggo and it isaround 20 celsius. Opinions?

@slay2cool; There is definitely a performance difference between the edp (LIDGE) and the edt (LIDG). I have both and they are basically the same scent except LIDGE goes into beastmode on longevity and is a sillage monster and LIDG is fairly normal on these two points. And two sprays is really all you need on LIDGE. And this is on a person with dry, pale skin and usually has bad performance issues. Before you make up your mind between the two, may I suggest you scroll down on these LIDG reviews until you get to Colin Maillard's review. He is highly respected among perfume enthusiasts and seems to know his s**t for sure! I like LIDG also. I just like LIDGE a little more because of the longevity and sillage reasons mentioned above. You can't go wrong with either one. So why not buy a bottle of each?!

CHEERS!

slay2cool

Any difference in the scent and performance of the edt and edp? I smelt the edp and it was pretty good. Might just buy a bottle

PrincepsNocte

Just received it as a blind buy based on reviews here. Very poor performance, reminds me of Vicks lemon cough drops, tough not in a bad way. Extremely faint despite liberal application, my collegue at work couldn't detect it, though I must admit I usually go for much stronger perfume like Fahrenheit, L'Homme YSL, Antaeus, Jaipur edp, Spicebomb extreme etc. Won't buy it again but will try it again in winter.

Casiquire

Why in the heck do people keep, A, calling this a "mature" fragrance, and B, keep comparing this to Dior Homme? Neither of those two things is true. This is a complex, sweet, powdery, citrus-y fragrance and it certainly has no age-stamp on it. I'm 26, I've been wearing it for a couple years, and get compliments on it from both men and women who are much younger than I am. Anyway, this is a very complex and beautifully well-done fragrance, full of oddities. It's like wearing multiple fragrances, the shifts in tone are that dramatic. A must-try for anybody, including women. Even if you don't actually like it, it's fragrance art that needs to be experienced.

In Perfume Pyramid is written natural musk, is it really true? I dont think so, natural musk is too much rare and illegal.
I confused.

roko

It's the same "classy" category scent such as Dior Homme line,Dolce & Gabbana the one and La nuit de l'homme. It's not worthy for somebody to own two or more from this same category fragrances although they are all great.

The only negative in this scent,is that it fits (in my opinion) only in 30+ ages.

The scent is an amazing combination of citrus and chocolate. It is also strong enough both in longevity and sillage. Not some kind of a bomb sillage, but definitely a strong one.

I give it with a full heart a 9/10 ΄-).

Extraordinary fragrance. Must be given a full and attentive wearing to be fully understood. Lots of development, lots of complexity, amazing dry down and great longevity. After a full day's wear, you feel like you have worn 4 different fragrances. I don't dare attempt to describe each one, you will have to try for yourself!

Guerlain is formidable! And this is the proof.

Upon commencing my search for my 10th fragrance I intended to purchase a light, perhaps citrus-y scent, ideal for the 'glorious' British summer. However, this didn't happen (well, apart from the citrus-y part maybe) - after coming across LIDG at a reduced price, 10th spot is now taken.

There is not much more I can add to the overwhelming positive reviews on this page than to say that this was love-at-first-spray. For some odd reason, some fragrances remind me of luxurious hotels (see also: my review of DSquared Potion Royal Black). These tend to be the fragrances that I adore, and this is one of them. The cacao, citrus and sandalwood stand out most for me, leaving an extremely well-blended scent trail. Longevity is also very good - two sprays on wrist and two hand-washes later it is still present.

LIDG is a fantastic fragrance that would fit into most wardrobes. Purchasing this just means that I now need to buy an 11th scent in order to get that light summer-y scent I still need, such a shame... :p

bought 2nd bottle for my hubby. Say's a lot ;-) Here summertime, but still great blend on his skin! When he wears this ...I just want to stay very close to him :-) Good for romantic nights, partytime ..just try, it's very natural smell. I think it suits mature men better, not for teenagers.

L'instant De Guerlain. Elegance, finesse, and extolment? I've certainly been led to believe that through countless reviews. But what do I make of it? Upon first sniffing this juice from its plastic little sprayer, an unexpected mood is conjured. It feels like a time that has passed, but not due to irrelevance. It's more from the general inability to recreate it well enough to garner authenticity. It is a scent only Guerlain could have created. Anyone else would've proven affectacious with their results. The house of Guerlain appears to not follow trends. This is not a salty aquatic or clubby fruit scent. No, this is a gentlemen's tonic. Opening up with a decisive garnishing of citrus, L'instant slowly settles down to a powdery, syrupy aura. But what's this? The powder vibe isn't as it seems. This is powdered chocolate. I can't help but sniff my test strip repetitively and think of a tall glass of creamy chocolate milk. Such an unhealthy drink, yes, and one of dollar store origins when considering it's Nesqik. But it is delicious and nostalgic to childhood. The creamy cocao mixes in with only the slightest hint of spice. The herbal patchouli and dusty sandalwood also hit the forefront while the classy florals drizzle calmly in the background. It is a light, lovely cup of Aztec chocolate powder. It's in the center of a plate surrounded by breathtaking floral arrangements. That, my fellow fumeheads, is L'instant.

Despite its superb glow, I do not regret purchasing the EDT in lieu of the EDP. I feel the light cloud of nicety suits this scent perfectly. Or, perhaps, I want to feel more secure about my cheaper purchase?

Scent: 7.5/10
Projection: High end of moderate
Sillage: Moderate
Versatility: Not for the high heat of summer, but perfect for any other occasion.

I want to pour this into milk and drink it.

Unlike some people said, I think LIDG is very versatile.
Ok, it's warmer and kind of sober. But, differently of LIDGE, the citrus notes are very present and they make all these more flexible. Just avoid hot temperatures.

It's a beautiful fragrance, no doubt. Citrus and Cocoa/woody vibe dominates this one.
Easy to please and to wear.

Congratulations to Guerlain, they made me start liking cocoa vibe with this fragrance!

This fragrance it's mature (25+), manly and elegant, yet very versatile. And it's not dated or feminine at all. I love the combination of the main notes: citrus, cocoa and woods. The blending is executed perfectly!

The performances are good, it's not quite a beast like LIDGE is, but it's not a shy fragrance either.

I still prefer this EDT over the much more hyped Extreme version.

A modern classic!

Smells pretty good. I get mostly citrus. It smells like/reminds me of Tom Ford for Men which i also own. However I actually prefer this to Tom Ford for men.

Both of these frags have poor longevity and projection and that is why I won't buy another bottle when its done.

Would wear it to the office.

Smell 5/10
Projection 3/10
Longevity 4/10

After my purchase of the LIDG I cant use my log time favorite Terre dH any more, also having both LIDGE and LIDG I would like to say that they are different enough to have them both, LIDG is Luminous Woody.
Fresh, warm, sensual
LIDGE is Gourmand, warm, fresh.
LIDG amazes me with its roundness and smoothness , everything is perfectly put together, the work of Art!!!
Now I have a perfect set for a life time, JPG Vetiver,LIDG, LIDGE, and the Heritage, absolutely fantastic products that have something spacial that I newer get tired of it!

Nice scent, very warm and has an energy that makes others want to get close. A bit chocolatey, but the gourmand effect is not as prevalent as let's say Amen. Wish this one lasted longer. I put lotion to moisturize the skin before applying and it still is gone within two hours. A classy dinner date and movie fragrance. At least on me doesn't last beyond that so it has doesn't warrant a spot in the front row of cologne collection.

Best staff ever! It replaced my long time favorite Terre dH , I own both LIDGE and LIDG , love them both, the LIDG is alot easier to wear and a lot more versatile then the LIDGE
Longevity and silage are very good, 8 hours easy, my bottle is from 2014
Also recommend their Heritage!

Boy, I believe I'm falling in love with this fragrance each and every sigle time I wear it. In my opinion, this is not the fragrance that asks for compliments, nor is it the major crowd pleaser. But it is one of those dinstict scents that service what I think is the purpose of a scent: to make you smell good. Plus, it is so versatile! In my eyes, this fragrance gives the image of a confident, charming man and probably that's the reason why the first man I think when I think of this fragrance, is Sean Connery as James Bond. Overall:

Scent: 9
Longevity: 9 (haven't really counted the hours that it lasts on me, but if I put in on in the evening, I can still detect it next morning)
Sillage: 8
Versatility: 9
Price: 8.5

a few days ago i was wearing this very fragrance when i went to the supermarket to get some groceries. i heard, not one, but several comments:"that guy smells so good.""he has a beautiful kid and a beautiful smell" etc.

DannyBoii

Very deep perfume!
I wouldn't compare it to Dior Homme like someof the other reviews.I think people are just saying that because these both smell amazing.. I have a bottle of Tom Ford Noir and it smells exactly like that just slightly deeper and stronger. Amazing citrus and spicy notes in this one! :)
