White Diamonds by Elizabeth Taylor is a Floral Aldehyde fragrance for women. White Diamonds was launched in 1991. The nose behind this fragrance is Carlos Benaim. Top notes are Aldehydes, Lily, Neroli, Orange and Bergamot; middle notes are Egyptian Tuberose, Jasmine, Ylang-Ylang, Narcissus, Carnation, Italian Orris Root, Turkish Rose and Cinnamon; base notes are Amber, Musk, Sandalwood, Oakmoss and Patchouli.

The success of Elizabeth Taylor's fragrance has motivated many other celebrities to launch their own perfumes. White Diamonds is a sheer floral fragrance, an example of top classics. The harmony of flowers and aldehydes in the top notes, together with the sharp base, give this fragrance an elegant vintage nuance. The top notes are aldehydes, bergamot, neroli, orange and lily. The heart unites the classical trio, violet, rose and jasmine, accompanied by ylang-ylang, Egyptian tuberose and narcissus. The base is composed of oak moss, patchouli, musk, sandalwood and amber. The perfume was created by Carlos Benaim in 1991, and was inducted into the Fragrance Foundation's Hall of Fame in 2009.

The dry down on me is very bubbly and fresh, smells just like an expensive bar of soap. It's definitely more mature but not in an 'old' way. At least to me.
I had avoided it for a while because of everything I heard about it; Grandma-ish, cloying, offensive, "a scrubber", but I don't agree with any of it.
White Diamonds wont make it onto my favourites, at least for now, but I do see myself reaching for it and enjoying it in the future. It's very pretty on the nose, clean, powdery, and floral. One spray is more than enough for a fresh, sudsy cloud to follow you throughout the day.

You little brats are all haters. This is not "old", "grandma", none of that. HOWEVER, this perfume is NOT for the faint of heart. My grandmother wore this, along with Beverly Hills Giorgio, Oscar by Oscar De La Renta..yea you get it, powerhouse fragrances, and it's who I got my love of powerhouse fragrances from.

You have to enjoy complex white floral based fragrances.

The best way to describe this is it smells of money and tuberose. An individual who is confident in their own presence and making a presence.

At first, you get quite the punch of aldehydes, patchouli, oakmoss, almost grassy, slightly soapy but rich scent with support of the white florals keeping it grounded, and this lasts about 4 hours, then it mellows out to a very airy tuberose and gardenia, as if the sun was wafting through from the warm base.

Give this a chance. You never know what you're missing out on.

Always had a love for this one. A classic "makeup powder" floral with gentle aldehydic tones. My appreciation for this "diamond" has grown over the years. A must for any collection if you love dominating florals with a timeless aroma and deep musky base. Silage and longevity are top notch, you will be noticed.

I used to hate her, she would turn my stomach. I don't know if she changed or I changed. I find her comforting now, she comes to bed with me on cold winter nights. I don't take her out in public, I'm a bit embarrassed by her. She's like a cheap, loud, old Aunty who you know is going to inappropriate in social settings. I keep her secret. She's the offspring of an icon, she's a nepo baby and for that reason alone she deserves respect.

Preface: I love ET — she reminds me of my grandmother and myself. Unequivocally, she will always be the most beautiful and intriguing woman that Hollywood has ever known. Additionally, I would recommend the following films: “Butterfield 8”, “Cleopatra”, “The VIPs”, and “The Sandpiper”; they are classics and better than any films today. She and Richard Burton had the most authentic chemistry I have ever seen between two people on film.

Actual (very honest) Review: It smells like an 85-year-old in 1985. There is nothing more to say. I bought a bottle, and it’s only used as decor in my vanity area.

White Diamonds is a bit of a cultural joke: cheap! grandma! nursing home! church! Etc. The packaging is unapologetically retro, but lovable.

Ageism aside, this is popular for a reason. It’s so good!! I’m hooked and can’t quit the WD, despite my embarrassment :)

In order to like WD, one must appreciate classic fragrances in general, and aldehydic florals in particular. WD opens with fizzy, soapy, refreshing aldehydes that instantly lift your spirits. They really do feel “sparkly.”

This is followed by a white-floral mashup with a hint of indole— nothing too skanky, just enough to give character. The drydown has a soft, clean, chypre, woodsy-mossy feel.

As it moves through all these phases, WD retains its distinctive DNA and can’t be mistaken for anything else. Though it’s cheap now, WD began as a high-end perfume. That “fancy” DNA shines through in its coherence and character. It’s an immensely satisfying scent to wear. I feel lovely wearing it.

This should be common sense but— don’t overdo WD. I use either a light dusting of the powder OR short half-sprays of the EDT. It’s strong and can be offensive when overdone. This may be why some people hate it. On the other hand… you get a lot of bang for your buck! Gorgeous scent and I keep coming back to it.

Maybe I should start attending church & putting mints and Kleenex in my purse ;)

I just discovered this diamond. How have I been missing out all these years!!! Wow. This is so luxurious without being expensive. Incredible. I'm not really a celeb frag person (apart from Mon Guerlain EDP) but this is exceptional.

I was in a shop at Xmas time & i suddenly started smelling fresh hyacinths (it was apparently the carnations I was smelling). I was sniffing around & found the source. I asked the girl wearing it what it was & immediately ordered a bottle. I cannot believe the quality. Beauty, elegance, sophistication, refinement, longevity, sillage, depth, complexity... This takes the phrase "hidden gem" to a new level! This is the finest perfume, for the price, I've ever discovered. I feel like I found a precious treasure mistakenly taken to a second hand shop, but belongs in an expensive antique boutique.

It's hyacinths on a fluffy blanket of snow, bathed in warm golden candlelight, sparkling diamonds, champagne, powdery soft, wearing the most beautiful black velour evening gown, on a perfect December night out with the one you love. Pure lux elegance. This scent requires a limousine lol. There's a lot going on but exquisitely blended to perfection.

It's like watching NY city lights while it's snowing at night.
The dry down is when the hyacinth clouds around you, beautiful & enthralling. There is nothing sour & no unpleasant surprises. It stays sexy, elegant, cozy & romantic from beginning to end.

I feel it's a winter frag. I only wear it in December. It seems too heavy & fancy for other months. It's vintage yet timeless. I wonder what the original smelled like b4 it was reformulated?!

I feel that this frag is for those with old Hollywood style/silver screen elegance & expensive taste. It's mature, not "old lady" or "grandma". It's for the sophisticated, classy, romantic & glamorous. It's heavy but in a warm cosy way, to me.

It's like a modernish version of vintage Paris. I love perfumes that remind me of the scents ladies wore in Edwardian Paris. I don't think "old lady/granny". Those ladies were once young & wearing lots of violets & roses then like young ladies now are wearing juicy gourmands. In 100 years, the juicy perfumes worn now, will be considered "old lady"-esque. Ageism needs to die. I appreciate the evolution of perfume in all of its forms & varieties.

I can understand why some may feel it's vintage-esque & that's probably mostly due to the violets. Violets give that mature, old fashioned, aged, vibe. How could E.T. make her best perfume without a wink of her violet eyes? It's perfectly at home in this perfume & done well. Beautiful bottle too.

White Diamonds has that classic aura plus glamorousness & a bit of modernity to balance it. The antithesis of refinement IMO. I think it's fair to say it's chanel no5's cousin. Seriously underrated & underappreciated.

The price was shockingly inexpensive for the quality. The sillage & longevity are incredible. Such a beautiful surprise discovery!!!! This is truly a classic, underrated masterpiece.

It's not one for everyone though. If you're into the typical modern, fruity scents, this probably will not be your cup of tea.

My friend commented that when she smells it, it literally chokes her & she can taste it on her tongue. She said it reminds her of purple velvet drapes, cigarette smoke, heavy, thick, smothering hot & Suffocating.

To each their own!

Such a nostalgic scent for me! I came across this scent so much as a child growing up in Chicago in the 90s. It was everywhere. It wasn’t just an “old lady scent.” Many adult woman 25+ years old would wear this too. I smelled it on teachers in school, office workers, ladies on the bus, walking down the sidewalk, my friends moms, women at restaurants. White Diamonds and Passion. I still remember the White Diamonds commercial and imagining the music immediately transports me back to an era before home computers, cell phones, internet. When people walked around, socialized, and mingled before we all became shut-ins who hide ourselves away from others, posting online about how much fun we’re having...

Nostalgia aside, white diamonds is primarily a musky floral to my nose. Predominately vintage style flowers, not the same sweetened jasmines and roses that most modern designers use. Carnations seem to stand out to me, dancing on a bed of animalic musks. Opens with more aldehydes, dries down with more powder. Occasionally I get whiffs of woods, different florals peeling in from time to time. I don’t get noticeable patchouli here. One needs to properly wear this scent to appreciate the nuance. It lacks vanilla or any sweetness that could make it appreciated by young gourmand lovers. It’s dry and bitter, but strong, unique, powerful. It’s a woman who doesn’t need to turn herself into a cupcake to feel lovable. It’s the scent of a true matriarch.

I recommend spraying lightly. Even with modern formulations, this little EDT packs quite a punch. I didn’t realize I oversprayed recently and by hour 4 I had to take a walk outside in the sunshine to try to dry/blow some of the excess off me as it was becoming too much.

This probably won’t be a daily scent for many women nowadays, but I’m glad it’s still in production. I’m also glad it’s so inexpensive. Wearing it feels like watching a classic old movie.

mirrorghost

this starts with an indolic white floral and aldehydes, followed by animalic notes. i get a little citrus, patchouli, oakmoss and carnation as well. i think overall, i am getting narcissus and lily the most, then more orris which rounds out the scent and adds some depth. after being on the skin about 20 minutes the sandalwood and amber come forth more and it gets really gorgeous. i think now i am remembering this from my childhood. the aldehydes really do add a sparkling diamond like quality, which is amazing. i am so glad to finally try this one!

When I choose a perfume I focus on two things:
- how does it make me feel.
- what does it project to others on behalf of me.
I don't really care about a perfume's formulation, because I want to smell pictures, and because I know that a lot depends on my skin chemistry.

When I smell WD I see a lovely young lady with short Bob hair, red lips, wearing a beige silk tea dress. I, also, see a C-level executive on her button-up shirt expressing an opinion on a very important meeting.

In an era of vast variety of scents, brands, prices, formulas and philosophies, this perfume is still around and being produced. The reason is because it's worth it:
a. This is an affordable quality perfume of a huge value for money. One pays a lot less than what they would be willing to pay if WD was promoted by an ad campaign featured by a very prominent face.
b. Only a small amount will last for hours.
c. It can be worn on all occasions, day to night, all year round - depending on the spraying.
d. It says to you "you are expensive, work on your attitude to match that" and to others "you should take her seriously".

If all the above characterise this scent as dated, or "old lady" perfume, then alright. I apologise for not categorising style and fashion choices by "young" or "old". I only distinguish character there. And, in my opinion, WD is a role model to be respected.

Arcticmanatee

Nice! Floral aldehydes. Pear top notes jasmine neroli then BOW CHICKA BOW WOW! SEX NOTES! 🫦. I agree it is sophisticated. Much better performer and nuance than the price would suggest. The dry down is very nice. Someone mentioned the dry down similar to Beautiful by Estée Lauder. It’s similar but this is a much better fragrance. This is classy Skank cougar in high heels real fur and diamonds. Old school classy with that old school rumpy bumpy underneath. This perfume is not here to play.

JBuffett

A great example of where the star rating doesn't do this fragrance justice. White Diamonds is a true classic, eternal, radiant and sparkling as its name. I can only imagine people rate it lower because of a perceived old fashioned vibe. But if you marketed this as the latest Tom Ford creation the same people would be clamoring to get it, paying 10x more and singing its praises.

Correction: it is not even in the list of "The most purchased perfume in the world"

Always gifted to me by my grandmother, the queen of it all. She loved Elizabeth Taylor and I always kept them even though it was a little mature for my teen years lol. She passed late last year and I have her last travel size and packaged bottle and even though its not my favorite scent I will never get rid of them. Once I get my display together I'm going to put them with her photo and her Club 21 token and matchbook. I hope she knows about my love of perfume wherever she is now.

evavidal62

A beautiful fragrance. I remember the black and white TV commercial for it, with Liz Taylor taking off a pair of white diamond earrings and giving them to a guy playing in a kind of gambling game, saying, "these have always brought me luck." Opens with aldehydes which for the early 90's was such a throwback to vintage aldehyde florals like Arpege, Chanel 5, 22, L'air du temps, White Shoulders, White Linen, and throwback to white florals like Fracas. The neroli and citrus top notes give it a fresh burst of sweetness. The soapy quality is immediately there. Bubbly and bathy, soapy. Very clean. The white floral heart settles in, made of lily, jasmine, tuberose and white rose. So this is definitely all about the white flowers. Gardenia was, according to herself, Liz Taylor's favorite flower. The scent begins fresh, cool and soapy but finishes off warm and musky. In between you get the clean white florals and a touch of cinnamon. This is somewhat spicy because of that cinnamon which you can't miss. The dry down is musk, amber, sandalwood. By the driest stage, it is much warmer with white musk. The scent is also powdery, most likely because of the iris or orris root note. The dab-on bottles in the egg shape with fake diamonds (rhinestones) has a sweet but strong oil of lilies and jasmine kind of vibe. The spray is a powder bomb. This scent is luxurious, sophisticated, glamorous and warm, suited to fall and winter in the evening for dressy formal events - weddings, wedding parties, gala dinner parties. People forget that the time of it's release in 1991, this was such a beloved and popular fragrance that transcended age and race. Fans of Elizabeth Taylor lined the streets in front of Macy's to hear her talk about this perfume. She wore it herself as she did all her other perfumes. White Diamonds won a FIFI award. This is truly a masterpiece of perfumery. But it's also quite simple despite it being heavy. If you spray just a little on your wrist or in a vertical spray on your neck, you're good to go. The perfume leans feminine and not unisex (even Arpege is more unisex). I don't care what some say about it calling it an old lady fragrance and young people have no business wearing it. Whatever. It is such a classy and beautiful aroma that it should be appreciated by all. It may not work on everyone's skin chemistry if you don't like aldehydes or white florals but if you do then go with it and rock it. To me though it is so elevated and glam that I can only wear it at wedding parties or very dressy formal affairs which don't come frequently in my life. And in winter time like now - January, February. A soothing scent, it can also work as an after your shower and before bed time scent. I happen to really like aldehyde white florals, soapy florals, powdery florals, so for me this is a treasure. Fragrance has the power to change itself to each and every individual so if it's coming off as old and ugly to you, remember to others it's beautiful. To me it will always be beautiful. I have the dab on bottles and the sprays. And the best part is that despite it being super expensive at one time it is now so cheap a child on an allowance can buy it! It's a drugstore cheapie and always easily found at CVS, Walmart, Walgreens etc. Elizabeth Taylor knew what she was doing because she's passed on (and lives only in her movies) but this fragrance is forever.

I happen to be an old lady. Well, maybe not that old. I’m 50 and I would never wear this. To me it smells like something my mother would’ve worn and she’s 80.
Quite honestly, I’m surprised they have not discontinued this.
Meanwhile, CLOSER by Halle Berry was discontinued and it was a rockstar fragrance.

worldgeorge310

pure sexy.

CrazyCrab

Perfect for Christmas time; sparkly aldehydes and warm white florals, it smells like a beautiful expensive soap... It is very very soapy with minimal sweetness and the tiniest hint of something dirty underneath. Like a sophisticated party with candlelight, gold sequins, champagne bubbles, scrubbed clean and glamorous but you're wearing an old real fur coat.

na335

Am I the only one who prefers the EDT over the EDP?? The EDT is FAR more complex and floral than the VERY soapy EDP. The EDP I feel is very linear and is just PURE WHITE SOAP with extra suds. The EDT is just mindblowingly good. Grapey jasmine DELICOUSNESS. The magic starts about an hour after being sprayed.

The first time I smelled WD was at a hole in the wall sushi bar... go figure! Our very casually dressed, and young server was wearing it. The entire restaurant was filled with this fragrance. I thought wow! she must be wearing a new LUSH scent because it smelled sooo botanical and floral. So of course I had to ask her, and she said "hmm I think its called Diamonds". I said WHITE diamonds?? she pulled out a very small bottle of edt in her apron pocket and handed it to me.. sure enough white diamonds. i was shocked!! that was about 3 years ago and has been my signature ever since. The person I imagine wearing this is definitely Blanche Devereaux from the Golden Girls. But hey, I think a gay 27 yo male can pull it off too :)
I buy mine at walgreens for basically pennies. I very rarely get compliments on it, but the ones who do appreciate this floral bomb, are always left obsessed.
Also, I have tried all the body products but none seem to give me that grapey jasmine "high" the edt offers.

Another similar experience happened to me with red door EDT. a VERY casual bartender was wearing it and left me begging for more. I must love huge 80s white florals!

thaochipnd

This smell is so old, I feel like this is a 40 years old lady. So maybe when I reach that age, I will like this scent.

rene.saller

I like the pure parfum best, followed closely by the EDP, but the EDT is pretty fantastic, too. They're best judiciously layered--you have to be careful, though, because even the EDT is very strong. I like to use the lotion, followed by a bit of the powder, then a few dots of the pure parfum or the EDP, and then spray my hairbrush once or twice with the EDT, brush it through my hair once or twice, and then this can easily last all day and into the night. Crazy longevity. I usually get tired of the fragrance before it wears out on me. I like the powdery drydown best; it almost reminds me a little of Samsara then.

Update: I'm giving away my EDT. I like it a lot, but I wear the EDP and pure parfum more often, if I'm in the mood to wear WD, which isn't all that often, because I have too many perfumes. I know the woman I'm giving it to will love it, which makes me happy.

pd.monna

This smells sharp in the initial spray. However, the dry-down is so luxurious and fresh. Smells like a very expensive soap. Whenever I smell it, I always feel amazed at how great this perfume is. Mind you, I only have the EDT. It lasts the entire day too. This has become one of my favorite scents ever.

Mystères du Château de Dé

I mostly stick to the EDP. I sprayed on my 4 year old EDT today and it smells like my quite old bottle of vintage Cristalle, which I think has gone off in the top note. Maybe I can save this if I dump out some sprays over the next couple days. I have a couple different bottles of EDP and they seem rock solid.

The EDT has green tones but not the EDP. They are both juicier and more yellow perfume style to my nose now than my impression was years ago.

eva.daisy.88

This fragrance is like a postcard from 30 years ago. It is great to revisit it maybe once a year when you’re feeling nostalgic, but it’s not fitting in the modern world anymore. It feels outdated. I blind bought the bottle, and it’s not a safe purchase. I told myself I will not wash it off, I want to really experience it, but I had to wash it off after around 30 minutes, it just became too overpowering and distracting to people around me as well. Don’t get me wrong - I love white florals, those are my favorite perfumes. But not in this composition.

babypong

I see so many white diamond fans here so I'm sorry but I hated this perfume. Tried this from a tester in the store, the smell was so bad I had to wash my arm after. I will say it’s long lasting and strong, but it smells really bad and old to me. I love chanel no 5, powder, musk, florals, aldehyde smells, but this blend was really not for me. It reminded me a little of black opium but not in a good way. I can tell this is a well loved fragrance, and I do believe it’s high quality and sophisticated, but despite having notes I like, I was really disgusted by it when I wore it.

Update: I couldn’t resist buying it just to have for my collection knowing its significance. I sprayed a ton on myself and held my breath until it dried. It’s actually a really lovely scent. Maybe the bottle at CVS I tried was expired or something. It still has nursing home vibes but I think it’s clsssy and complex. I get much more jasmine out of it this time. Also the EDT is fine for silage and lasting power (5ish hours). I got the perfume because I love strong smell but the EDT performs just as well. Glad to welcome white diamonds in my collection

Vstar1

I just love White Diamonds so much! It’s my comforting scent that I always crave and come back to. It’s soapy, floral, & sophisticated. It’s very classic Hollywood glamour. The aldehydes compliment the soft florals in a very elegant, expensive smelling way. It’s so refined and glamorous. Elizabeth Taylor knew what she was doing when she created this masterpiece.

CurlGurl

If this was poured into a Chanel bottle and tagged for $150 people would lose their minds with words of "iconic" and "well blended" and "stunning". It's amazing how people grip onto stigmas for dear life. This fragrance is $20 and is absolutely one of the most gorgeous masterpieces of all time. So is Elizabeth's fragrance, Gardenia. You are out of your mind if you think this fragrance is trash. I'm sure you treasure your Ariana Cloud and bum bum cream.

Metamorphosing Tuberose...
1991 Tuberose, Aldehyde, & Lily Scent, that I imagine Julia Roberts wearing in Sleeping With the Enemy, which also came out in 1991. It starts out clean, prim, starchy, stuffy & oppressed, but morphs into a beautiful blossoming tropical tuberose, with a darkness underneath. This beauty opens with a vintage-y burst of clean & soapy aldehydic white-florals including neroli, but that's merely an opening number. As it transitions to the heart, a rich & creamy tuberose emerges at the centre of a floral bouquet. Ylang & jasmine tilt the tuberose into its tropical-citrus-fruity facets. Here in the heart I get reminders of other creamy tropical tuberose scents like Tubereuse de Madras Boucheron. The floral support base includes musk & oakmoss which fluff up the powdery facets of tuberose, while sandalwood & amber dial up the creamy richness. I just have a travel tester, and although I smelt this many years ago and passed it by, now I feel like I've never really smelt this before. Likely I sniffed the opening notes and assumed it was one thing, but it was really another. For me it starts out like a vintage white-floral aldehyde but turns into a tropical tuberose. Performance is well above average for year round wear, but I would be most likely to wear this in cooler months.

Contrast to Boucheron Boucheron:
These are different, but there are similarities with vintage white-florals. Boucheron takes its tuberose into a more maple-esque creamy sweetness, while White Diamonds has the aldehydes up top, and takes its tuberose into a more tropical creamy sweetness. Both have excellent performance.

Overall: gorgeous vintage white-floral-aldehyde that morphs into a tropical tuberose, with excellent performance. It's a love for me. 9/10. Enjoy!

PeacefulSunshine

One sniff and I immediately smelled cat pee and gagged. Interestingly enough, soon after I sprayed White Diamonds on me my cat went to use the litter box. (:

This is terrible. Even though it's made in 1991, it is very much an obnoxious 80s perfume scent to me... whereas I tend to like or at least have a certain fondness for classically 90s scents.

I am realizing that I really do not like aldehydes, yellow florals, and carnation/cloves in perfumes. I tend to be a perfume minimalist, loving more linear and simple scents of the white floral and tuberose variety. I thought this would potentially be a good one due to the white floral as the main ingredient while it also having tuberose. But my god, this is a no go.

Maybe I just don't have a sophisticated perfume palette--I like what I like and don't like anything else. And I am totally okay with that.

kells0s

A co-worker wears this scent, and I bought it because it smells lovely-when she wears it. On myself, I couldn't stand it and scrubbed it off after 10-15 minutes. The other scent this happened with was Red Door. I looked them up, and found they were both formulated by Carlos Benaim. I looked up his other scents, and wow the ones I am familiar with are all scents I do not like. It is definitely worth researching the "nose" before blind buying.

Raven NessRavenous

I do not own White Diamonds. I thought I hated it until I noticed a beautiful sophisticated fragrance emanating from a classy woman. I Asked her what she was wearing and was shocked: “White Diamonds powder. I do not like the spray.” The issue with White Diamonds is that the women in the 90s treated it (and Red Door) like casual perfumes and also over applied. Big voiced floral aldehydes go with pashmina scarves, dress slacks, and leather pumps. White diamonds does not go with Winnie the Pooh hoodies and jeans! In the 90s it was like the ladies from church showed up to help at some youth event doused in White Diamonds, Red Door, and worst offender: Vanilla Fields. If you are afraid of over applying White Diamonds (and you should be afraid), please, get the powder version. The powder is really beautiful in the right woman in the right attire.

Chacmool

I might have to set this one aside and come back to it.

After reading so much about LT and her fragrance lines, I was super keen to check out this one. Knowing full well what I was potentially getting into.

For $AU30 retail on sale, this is crazy good value for money if you like big white florals and esp. if you like Liz Taylor. But if you're already a fan you don't need me to tell you anything.

But, and this is only after reading how anal (read: 'thorough') Liz was herself about her fragrances being the best they could be as far as ingredients as well as composition, I can't help but feeling this is missing almost as much as it delivers, which is a lot. There's so many hints it's going to evolve or show more of something. But it doesn't and that's okay too.

The 'sharp' florals others refer to are for me, jagged edges and there's literally gaps where it's clear something's not quite right somewhere. That something is missing (in my opinion). Easy to see how it could be disregarded as something I'm sure it isn't. Or at least, wasn't in its day if its still in production popularity is anything to go by.

For me it lacks nuances I thought would be there. Promised to me dammit! But only based on what Liz herself has been quoted as saying bout her range. Some of the listed notes look out of place compared to the fragrance itself which for me is a blooming example of aldehydes at work. Not a bad thing, but there's not a lot else in there which surprises me or even matches what I thought would be a more multi-faceted experience.

There's the big opening, a hint of something glorious and then...slightly scratchy, dry white floral powder that feels so big maybe that's the diamonds analogy carrying it right through to the end. And it does go on...48 hours later it is still la skin scent on my hand even after showering and washing my hands as I normally would. I wasn't trying to wash it off, but I often spray a scent on the back of my right hand when it's new to me to see how long it actually lasts.

I don't dislike it at all and I'm hoping it changes for me if I let the bottle settle some and come back to it for another go.

I'm determined to like this more but it's a wait and see from me since reading lots of first timers set it aside and come back to it, discovering there's more to it than first thought. Here's hoping.

For the money, there's no harm in picking one of these up if you're on the fence. Instant gift or incredible room freshener if it turns out to be something that you can't wear, for whatever reason.

Maybe I expected too much, but even if it is just what it is, then this bottle is going to last forever and it does cure me of the need for mega white florals when the fit is on me, which is rarely. But at least this is at hand if it does.

So not a safe blind buy, and not at all if you don;t love big white florals and turned up to eleven for at least a couple days. But extremely well done for the price point, which is enough on its own to make it a winner for those on a budget.

mizzhoopz

The dry down reminds me of vintage miss Dior with no galbanum and a little more powdery. BEAUTIFUL. If you’re not into florals this isn’t for you.

Perfumerzlove

One of the first perfumes in my collection that started it all. Only recently have I gone back to revisit this & I’ve stepped back in time…this is so nostalgic!

Ambikaambika

The scent of pure heaven. One of the best and iconic perfumes ever made love the strong long lasting floral!!

Fatima1219

A staple in my collection--so nostalgic! This fragrance doesn't remind me of anything in particular--it just places me in a nicer, easier time. Face it, this is one of the most popular fragrances ever, whether you like it or not! I found myself wearing all of the Diamonds flankers and other lovely perfumes from the House of Elizabeth Taylor--but, not giving the originator its proper attention. The legendary White Diamonds is my scent of the day--and, I'm proud of it! I know everyone's Mother, Grandmother, Aunt, or Teacher wore this powerhouse! Not only does White Diamonds demand respect, but it commands it--as it should! No one can hide while wearing White Diamonds--Yes! Everyone smells you! Additionally, they will smell you when you've left the room, and they will smell you as you are approaching their current location. If you like making your presence known through fragrance--White Diamonds is your jam! I love the initial sprays of this fragrance. The aldehydes, and the orange and bergamont help this fragrance start off clean and crisp..like a lovely all white linen pants suit. and matching white hat. As the fragrance dries down--it becomes both polarizing and sexy. The cashmere, amber, sandalwood, and bouquet of flowers shine through. White Diamonds is the Elvis Presley of perfumes--it has to be respected! To my nose, I don't get Grandmother--but I do get a woman who MUST be protected at all costs! It is dated, but in a classic, good way. Some of the best things in life are dated. The sillage and longevity seem to grow and grow as the hours pass by. I know a few women who say that this fragrance is the only fragrance that they can wear because other scents make them ill. I have a cousin who knows that I'm a perfume head. She told me to never wear this around her because it is for an old lady, but she likes it! Nonsense! This is for the confident woman, who will win no matter what! The woman who can 'get it herself,' but does not mind assistance. The woman who is wise beyond her years and worthy of respect. I have been wearing White Diamonds since it's launch. Yep, my Mother had it, lol! It has always been in my vast collection--always will be. It is sacred--even if I only wear it once a year. Masterpiece!
Not a safe blind buy for many reasons, but mostly because it takes confidence to rock this jewel!

Lovely Fragrance 💞💞

chloeharris

very, VERY strong and floral. smells very similar to other affordable perfumes. too sharp for me, makes me feel sick :(

ScentBlind

My neighbour's signature scent. Can smell it across the street or even a block away. Powerful.

rebelde06

Sorry if you love this but this perfume is a NO for me. Just too much and very strong. Outdated. The silage is HUGE.

un_bellecherie

I just love, love, love White Diamonds. So much I am considering replacing one of my favorites with it.
The scent is a powerhouse. So strong upon spraying I sometimes forget and overdo it, making’s myself choke. The dry down is the heavenly dream. I spray this all over myself before bed and on my clothes for the next day. So I re-enter the world in the morning with the heavenly dry down.

Aroma girl

I smelled WD on my workmate at work last Friday and I stopped by her office door, She has been in her office for couple of hours and the corridors were booming with her lovely smell.
and said, " You smell good, what perfume are you wearing, Beautiful by Estee lauder? No, White Diamond - by Elizabeth Taylor, she said.
I was pleasantly surprised because the dry down smells like Beautiful by Estee.
And I thought I am going to get it in my collection again.

Emnem

Chic but also does honestly remind me of my grandmother. The silage is HUGE and it is very strong.

NatalieCee

Worst perfume of all time. My friend wore this to college every day, and we commuted together. Sharp and strong, burned my nose! All I get are the aldehydes, which never agreed with me, I always dislike in any fragrance. The definition of an old lady scrubber scent. Thank goodness no one really wears it anymore.

Fenissa

I roll my eyes when I read a review saying 'old lady' or 'grandma' or 'scrubber' and I'll tell you why using White Diamonds as an example.
When it was first released, I was 17 and working in my first weekend job like lots of other teenagers. We ALL wore white diamonds because it was the new kid on the block. NONE of us said it was 'old lady' or 'grandma' or 'scrubber' lol
I can't even put it down to immature noses because at 17 I had an immature nose and this was THE perfume to wear.

In 15-20 years time, all you young Ariana Grande wearing perfumistas will be listening to the next generation leaving their reviews on Cloud etc saying 'old lady perfume' and 'grandma' and 'scrubber' and rolling your eyes just like I am now.

White Diamonds was great back in the day and it's still great now. It's still great because it's still a good seller.
Longevity is very strong. Silage is beastly so don't overspray. It's an unapologetic white floral. One of the best ones at that. The beauty is in the DRY DOWN so don't sniff it once and decide it's a scrubber.

oookari

smells like an old lady. way more powdery than expecting.

tatuli

You guys lied to me! :D This does NOT smell like an old lady at all. This smells rich, elegant and so, so chic! Due to the reviews, I ordered the smallest bottle (15ml), just to give it a try and now I'll order the full size. Yay!

rahatski

I was given Diamonds and Sapphires, didn’t love it, figured all the ETs would be similar, forgot about them for a decade. Read about them here, and bought a small bottle of White Diamonds EdP on a whim.

HOLY MOLY. It’s definitely one for the white floral lovers, but OH MY GOD it’s good. You may have to be patchouli-tolerant too, because that’s what it dries down to on me.

As far as old ladies—I am undoubtedly an old bag, yet my teen gave me a hug while I had WD on, and said, wide eyed, “Wow, you smell *really good*.” So the actual data are inconclusive. Still, I don’t need any more competition on eBay, so flag it old-lady, by all means.

Mayescent1

I know this fragrance gets very underrated because a lot of people say it’s a very mature scent. However the first time I discovered it a young college girl was wearing it layered with a rose body cream, and the combination really worked! The rose wasn’t vintage smelling either. Another woman that I met years later who was wearing White Diamonds told me that she was complimented buy a man saying that whatever fragrance she was wearing he wanted to buy because it’s exactly how he wants his wife to smell. I’ve loved it since I first discovered it and will always have a bottle in my collection.

stinky_inky

if they call this a grandma perfume, then I guess I'm a grandma too, at 21 no less.
love it love it love it
It smells like a fashion magazine with all the perfume samples opened, glossy paper and all for some reason.
Like Giorgio, if you spray it on fabric, it will last through the wash, and for like a week afterward.

HeavyBeatsUK

I’m young and I always get compliments whenever I wear an “old lady perfume” like this one.

A handsome colleague called it “hypnotic” and “captivating.”

So now I’ve bought Chanel No5 as well

zoyalindsey

Absolutely the worst perfume I ever smelled... well maybe except for some cheap colognes in the 80-s Russia produced by Soviet Factories. They also had that smell that can kill everyone around

Sunshineandsmiles

This is my favorite perfume I never wear except for myself when I want to feel sunny.

It's sunshine and summer bottled up for me. Makes me feel happy, carefree and fun loving. I think of the colour yellow when I smell this.

It lasts a lifetime and is cheap as chips.
Why pay an arm and s leg to smell unique with niche perfumes when this is so old no one wears it, making it niche and unique?

I think of it as a hidden hell of a gem.

Gyps

Revolting. Both this White Diamonds and Charlie give me a visceral reaction. There’s something in both that I can’t tolerate at all. Gave it to my granddaughter.

LadyJayMac

I have tried to like WD ever since I received the gift box for Christmas a cpl years ago. It's a mature woman's perfume for sure. I see it being used by women 60+. I don't know what the note is that all those fragrances have that strikes me as for older women. I've also tried to like my bottle of Channel No 5 for years too. They both give me the same thing. It's a classic smell and I appreciate it for that. I'm thinking maybe I can mix it with something "younger" aka edible. My 65 year old mother calls it a "generic" smell. So she must have smelled this type of perfume a lot in her day, because I wouldn't necessarily describe it as a generic scent in my time. My 50 year old sister describes it as "old lady". Lol it's not repulsive or anything, it's just not my type of fragrance. The silliage is huge and the longevity might as well be forever, so a 3oz bottle should actually last you the rest of your life....for $25. So it's a great deal if you like it.

White Diamonds 💎, several interpretations

Husband -“she wants to smell like an old lady.”
16 year old son -“she wants to knock everyone out in the nearest vicinity.”
14 year old daughter - “she smells like a rich strong lady.”
Mine, 37 year old woman, what a rich buttery spicy floral, something to wear when you want people to be able to tell you are wearing perfume, public settings like shopping or dining out preferable, or at home, but not the hospital or really small work quarters. You want to be a cloud of creamy spicy flowers. You are channeling your inner Elizabeth Taylor, old Hollywood glamour, lush, clean, and you have to be ok with smelling like much older women in our current time, this is theirs, they own it, they earned it.

lovebl2004

what a beautiful fragrance, got this today. took a bath and right after i sprayed it on, and wow, the first thing i smelt was the aldehydes, really smelt like i came out of a bubblebath. right after you smell all the floral. could not recommend it enough!!!

PLUMPIE

Even if this is reformulated with synthetic ingredients it is still one of the best oakmossy yellow floral scents on the market today and the price is incredible for what you get. So glamorous and classy smells like daffodils to me. If you love vintage Bijan or Ysatis then get this!

Hypercolor

White Diamonds is literally so delicious. The heart notes are intoxicating, luscious. I am in love with this. Also, I love Elizabeth Taylor. I’m going to mix this with gourmand scents and maybe other kinds too. I feel like it is good for mixing to augment sweeter, fruitier, woodier or whatever else.

Katie <3

Love this, it smells so luxurious like you just stepped out of a bubble bath. I'm spending my birthday alone today so I bought this as a treat. Looking forward to spending the day wearing White Diamonds whilst doing self care. 💖

XOXO_marcel

An old-fashioned, classy, slightly spicy aldehyde. A bit sharp, I would even describe it as "prickly" on the initial blast. I get that same feeling from Red Door.
This is a solid choice if you're looking for a classic fragrance with a little more pizzazz.
I love carnation as a note and I wish it were more common in modern fragrances. It's presented nicely here. Personally, my favorite when I'm craving carnation is L'Air du Temps, but this is a close second.
Love the bottle design! So cool and luxurious.

Mobrien37

When I first smelt this I hated it and it made me feel nauseous. It’s now one of my favourite perfumes of all time.

soniamcalear

I love most all of Elizabeth Taylor’s Perfumes with the exception of a few I don’t care for like Rubies and Diamond's, I could never get past the Sharpness of that scent ever. This scent is one the few scents that can hold up to Winter, it cuts through the dense molecules like a Razor!!! Sharp Aldehyde of florals. Not a Warm Weather Scent at all. This is a Christmas Scent for sure. Beautiful Scent.

DontCallMeDaisy

This smells gorgeous and glamorous. It evokes an image of the size zero, big haired women in designer silk gowns from the yesteryears of old Hollywood glamour. It’s sparkling, floral champagne in a 14 karat gold flute. This is what Chanel No 5 aspired to be but fell severely short in my eyes. This was hands down the nicest perfume I’ve smelled at the department store recently. Everything else was generically sweet or generically dish detergent/dead flower-y.

SuperSoakerSprayGirl

Smells like your grandmas laundry soap. When it slightly fades after 26 years it’s a very pleasant warm patchouli scent.

likesleet

this is really sharp!! lemon (i think just aldehydes & impression of cleaning fluid). not for me but im literally not the age range so who cares.

Alces Alces

For years I have enjoyed the flankers of WD (White Diamonds Lustre, Brilliant White Diamonds, Love & White Diamonds, Sparkling White Diamonds), but I always avoided the original, thinking it was just not for me, too dated, and so on. On a whim I wore the OG just to revisit it...and I love it! All the aldehydes and soapy floralcy anyone could ever want. As one reviewer (Silverquick) notes, "the scent is deep and yet airy and fluffy." Fluffy is exactly what this is, fluffy like a white towel and soap. Like jasmine and Ivory soap, but with incredible longevity (spray at night and smell it in the morning). When cheapies are this excellent, why spend three figures on niche scents that disappear in ten minutes? Going to wear this a lot more!

Note: this is about the EDT. Since it seems the EDP has more ylang ylang, I want to try it, too.

CalliopeBelle

I can't wear this. It doesn't mix well with my body chemistry. It smells like white flowers and poop on me

LSAUG

When I got into perfume collecting during COVID lockdown I bought WD eau de Parfum and didn't think I needed to explore the toilette or the pure perfume. But then I read the different reviews saying there were differences in the 3 different concentrations and formulations of this perfume. The reviews are right. While they do smell like White Diamonds there are subtle differences in each concentration. The toilette has a lot more aldehyde, very crunchy, cold aldehyde. The toilette is less floral and more about the aldehydes, it is soapier than the eau de parfum and the pure perfume. It is a beautiful cold powdery and clean perfume. I do love it but just like I have grown to love the eau de parfum, but this is more the daytime twin of the eau de parfum. Aldehydic, soapy, clean, and blinding white powder fragrance. ET White Diamonds is unapologetic, cold and aloof. Worn by a woman who is sensual, uncompromising, and fully self-aware. I love all 3 concentrations of this perfume and it is such a good value for money. I'm glad I have all 3 different concentrations of this stunning classic fragrance.

songtothesiren

I have tried for years to love Chanel No. 5, but this is the one I always come back to. I bought a vintage bottle at an estate sale and every time I wear it, I get compliments.

CurlGurl

The woman that wears this is SO chic, confident, and unapologetic. This is the definition of classic, timeless, sophisticated. She will always be beautiful.

Tinabill

GRANDIOSE GLAMOUR. White Diamonds 💎 is an all time classic perfume. It is a true embodiment of Liz Taylor’s beauty and Hollywood glamour.
WD opens with sparkly, soapy aldehydes balanced by some animalic note (?narcissus or indolic jasmine). The opening is strong 💪 and with old-school vibes so I spray once every few minutes while dressing to avoid developing a headache, and usually 3-5 sprays are more than enough. When this first hit settles, beautiful lilies, tuberose & jasmine as well as bright yellow florals bloom, this stage is compliments galore. The late dry down is drop dead gorgeous; the floral bouquet softens and is warmed by an exquisite sandalwood & spicy amber. The start wakes you up, the middle envelopes you with compliments and the dry down is very enjoyable to sleep to. Yes! it lasts you all day long and for such a bargain price. Sometimes I question the need to pay premium price for niche when there are such gems among designers and even celebrity scents.

Silverquick

This is a surprise….not because I’ve never smelt it but because I’ve never worn it. For over a few years in my late teens/early twenties this was a very close friends signature. Not only that, but she was a chronic oversprayer and wore 10-12 sprays of this whatever the occassion, weather or season. She became anosmic quickly, whilst killing all around her. It came around the bend before her. Now, this fragrance can do that with only moderate spraying 😁. Needless to say this was off my try menu due to me being angry with the scent (all that suffering) and it being associated to someone else.

Fast forward a number of years…and me not seeing this friend much (who no longer wears it) I yesterday picked up a bottle of Samsara EDT and noticed White Diamonds and Passion at ridiculously cheap prices. I decided what the heck and bought a 15ml of WD. Getting home I sprayed it and was taken back to all that time locked up in a car with my over sprayed friend… and then I smelt the magic. I think she wore the EDP as this never sparkled on her like this. I sat there bewildered. If I hadn’t known it was vintage I wouldn’t have thought so.

The top is so sparkly the pops were almost crunchy. Just wonderful. The scent is deep and yet airy and fluffy. I quickly get the ylang which is beautiful - not banana but so clear, the jasmine moves in and reminds me of all the classic soaps I used to collect as a kid. It’s wonderous. I get more musks (white and clean) rather than heavy woods.

There is a nod to Chanel with that opening which is wonderful if you like aldehydes, but is so her own scent. I think of that scene from The Great Gatsby where Leonardo raises his champagne slipper and smiles broadly at the camera during a toast. Here’s to you Liz and Carlos 🥂🍾

unicorn1

Elizabeth has done it again. I fell in love with her Passion perfume and then I got the Diamonds and Emeralds and now this one, which I love! This is a classic, powerhouse, beast of a perfume that has great staying power and you have to be careful not to overspray. It has great silage and lasting power and when I have a hot flash I get perfumed all over again! haha I am obsessed with the Elizabeth Taylor line of perfumes now as 3 out of 3 have been amazing. Can't wait to add more to my collection.

Lucylucylucy

This is one of my favorite 😍 ❤️ ♥️

rosetinteddream

I do not own this, but I was raised by my grandmother who wore this along with her Chanel’s, Estée Lauder, Calvin Klein, and other things that I saw sit on her perfume tray when I was younger. It is absolutely a classic style fragrance, vintage smelling to many. From what I remember, it performed like a beast. And I kind of got the idea that it wore you as opposed to you wearing it. Perhaps my grandmother over sprayed, and that’s why I remember it in that way. I plan on buying a vintage bottle just so I can have another link to her and some of the good memories that we had here and there. 💕

🥀

Update 07/22 - Ok I finally got a bottle! WOW! I am absolutely going to have to put this aside and come back to it. I am absolutely reminded of my grandmother, which is lovely. I miss her and my mom so much, I feel too young to not have anybody. But that’s life I guess. Anywho, I have been thinking for over a year or two that I don’t like Tuberose, and I still think that is a possibility. One reason the vintage Poison esprit de parfum doesn’t sing to me like it does for others. And I had a cheap perfume years ago of Tuberose, jasmine, and lavender. That went on to become a room spray. I think Tuberose is too heady for me. I WANT to like it, and maybe one day I will. For now it’s not my thing. And two things about this perfume. It is STRONG, and it does not remind me of Chanel no 5. I own vintage and new bottles of the EDT, EDP, and parfum and have also had the cologne. I just don’t get the same vibe or overall impression. But I’ll come back to this as it is just so familiar from being used by gma (like no 5 as well) that I just can’t let it go. I have a few mini bottles of the vintage parfum on the way and I’m so curious to try it! Also I have to add that I tested this by doing 3 sprays on my wrists, arm…WHICH I DON’T RECOMMEND! After a very hot shower and moisturizing my skin (thankful that my oily skin eats up fragrances in this case), I sprayed one spray on the back of each knee and one spray on one wrist that I dab onto the other. Now it’s not backhanding me across the face with a diamond ring 💎😉

Yessamin

A rich, sensual and classic fragrance. Elegant feeling of floral and aldehyde with a musky base.

EdT

2Ladybugz

A masterpiece. Elegant, rich, and floral classic. I love it. I know this probably sits in the "old lady" perfumes for some people. But I'm young and love it, I always keep a bottle on hand. It makes me feel like a confident, fancy woman. I've gotten many compliments. It has incredible staying power, it starts out very aldehydic and dries down to more of the floral notes. Smells like old money, and it never gets old, such a well-done classic.

FreeBeing

I didn't expect to like this as much as I do. I inherited a bottle from my late sister and wore it to remember her. I was surprised when everyone was complimenting me on my perfume. Looking at the notes, it's not my usual thing - very powdery & amber-vanilla scents. Another surprise is that it lasted all day long. I could still smell it on my underclothes when I was getting ready for bed. That's saying a lot because, at 60, I notice scents don't last like they did when I was in my 20's to 40's.

This is a very "classy" scent and I totally get that Liz Taylor vibe even if I am wearing yoga pants and a t-shirt!

Kalimi

I lo...o...ve one a lot--was my first designer perfume back in 2016. Its a masterpiece,, with great projection, sillage and lasts forever and ever...its truly a gem....

Mystères du Château de Dé

LovecraftLover, Taylor herself had nothing to do with today's price points. White Diamonds was introduced at higher end department stores and even had parfum selling at $200 an ounce, in 1991. It was more upscale than Passion, earlier, though Passion also had pure parfum as well (and it was wonderful). It was introduced at the level of Estée Lauder.

lmwimsatt

I like it until the top notes disappear into a tuberose that smell like Michael kors

LovecraftLover

I simply LOVE this perfume! I had never smelled it before, but of course grew up watching La Liz's amazing/hilarious commercials for it. I have so much to say about it! Patchouli is quickly becoming one of my favorite ingredients. It's so versatile, it can go all the way from dirty, grungy, grimy in a perfume like Angel all the way up to the clean, herbal notes found in White Diamonds.

This perfume is a MASTERPIECE and I will explain. Liz Taylor was one of a kind. She was known for her beautiful violet eyes, massive jewelry collection, and her many, many affairs and marriages. She's really the only one who could blend the slightly dirty, but sensuous patchouli with the formal, expensive, high class notes of aldehydes and white florals.

It's citrus-y enough to wear in Spring and Summer, but with enough musk and amber to wear in winter, as well. And for a $30 perfume, it smells amazing! I can hardly believe it's so inexpensive even to this day. It smells better than my Miss Dior at a fraction of the price. It doesn't smell nearly as cheap as my Miss Dior.

I still can't believe I love it as much as I do. I've been wearing it nonstop since I discovered it. I wonder how much Liz had to do with the formulation and the price point. She was a genius to have something made this well and for a price every housewife could afford. I'm fairly certain that her stardom was the main factor in getting a master perfumer to create this piece of art for her when so many other actresses have fruity bubblegum knockoffs made every few years that don't even come close to the elegance of this fragrance.

Liz is a true inspiration, even now. All her AIDS charity work and her commitment to creating a beautiful scent any woman could afford to wear will be legacies that last just as long as her amazing film career.

Ferra_Verto

Very beautiful old-school aldehydic white floral bomb.
Maintains a sweet & woody profile for the scent's duration, and, surprisingly enough, the aldehydes stretch and maintain their fizzy and bright profile. There's a very distinct 'zing!' to this scent that lasts all day.
Sillage is beastly, leaves a very noticeable scent trail. 10+ hrs on skin, days and days on clothes.
Perfect for transitioning weather, spring or autumn. I don't love this as much in the cold winter months; feels too animalic and the white florals feel almost sterile.
Definite worthwhile addition to a collection.

Mystères du Château de Dé

There is a White Diamonds "Body Radiance" deo spray. Maybe that's the softer version that some people desire.

littleblonde

The secret with this perfume does seem to be, to wear in cold weather, and spray on torso area... not anywhere else, so that it kind of follows you and makes you spell clean and flowery, but doesn't overwhelm. This shouldn't be main fragrance. I understand why people spritz before going to bed, but it's too strong. The clean powdery notes, but again, it will be all you smell. I'm the type that would love this at half the level.

littleblonde

For a lot of the old-school perfumes, they are just way too strong. I think this is a decent smell, but I would love a watered down version of this smell, if anyone has a suggestion.

Scentflower

This perfume was my mom's signature scent. My mom always said to have a signature scent so when people smell it, they'll think of you. Well, mom you were right. I smell this and think of you.

I myself am a huge perfume collector and don't have a true signature scent. I can't wear this perfume even if I wanted too because it was my mom's signature scent. But, it's a lovely perfume. It's warm inviting and has a luxurious feeling to it. Nowadays sweet smelling perfumes dominate, especially for people my age. It's not a sweet scent at all its a white floral perfume. If that's your vibe I think you'll really like this perfume. Scents have no age. You like what you like. I'd suggest getting a smaller bottle to try it out. You can find it pretty inexpensive.

drugstore classics

White Diamonds smells utterly Dreamy on a treasured family friend of mine. I tested it on my skin (and yes, I'm MUCH younger than this dear lady!), and it was rank. Something was horribly off. Despite how good it could have been, it was awful.

Fastforward a couple of years and a mini came my way. Oh, what a difference. And it's because the mini is the parfum, not the edt. The parfum is light on lily (and that rancid celery note on my chemistry!), but is instead high in ylang ylang. This is very good news for me, as I adore such classic florals! I'm not the expected age range for White Diamonds but can highly recommend it to white floral lovers. Nothing sweet here. More like a 'Fracas and floral friends' than a Michael Kors style white floral. The tuberose is not by herself, but rather alongside gardenia in the center of a perfect, redolent bouquet.

Concerns that it's too elderly for you? True art is ageless. However, if you dislike powder, aldehydes (read, soapy notes), or unsweetened ANYTHING, then this is likely too vintage a fragrance style for your personal tastes.

Complements? Oh, YES! My best friend swoons and my family smiles. It's a happy, rich, floral scent which smells far more expensive than it is. If you enjoy classics like Carolina Herrera, Sand&Sable, and Fracas, then give a consideration to the elegant and alluring floral that is White Diamonds. She is not a dupe of any, but in this extended family of heady beauties.

Value, performance, and fragrance each rate 5 stars with me. Highly recommended. <3

kikipoo

To my surprise, I received many compliments while wearing this perfume back when I was the tender age of 22. People of all ages stopped me to ask what I was wearing. Based on their facial expressions, they seem quite shocked to hear that it was White Diamonds lol.

I’m usually a firm believer in the “perfume has no age” sentiment, but this one has an age and that age is 60+. This is a very strong, old fashioned floral scent that packs a punch with those strong, and I do mean strong, aldehyde notes. It’s a very classy and mature scent that an older woman could pull off easily, but teens and 20’s, even 30’s and 40’s? Probably not something you’d want to wear during that time (no offense to anyone who likes this perfume in those age ranges). To be quite blunt, White Diamonds is what many would call a “grandma” or “church lady” scent, but I can still appreciate the classiness in such an iconic scent that’s been around forever.

princelebii

Until now I am still wearing it , totally obssessed with it. I feel that this is the perfume I am looking for . I found what I need in my life. it is super easy to wear with any dress , blouse and style . The longevitiy is fantastic , last for all day.
The scent projection is incredible and timeless fashion. The price is decent and friendly and the only one of the celebrity's scent that I wear for whole year. There are lots of both positive and negative comments at the same time. Some said the smell was really like you entered to the ancient shrine and there was bombarding incense jar , floated around the air . Bear in mind once wearing it in hot and humid area like South East Asia!

Please do not stop producing this perfume . It is rare to find in my country.

rosehips

I know it’s classic and beloved for many reasons but this just doesn’t work for me, I find it too mature and headachey.

eileensheats

White Diamonds is the only decent celebrity scent ever made and I will die on that hill!

CiCiGourmand

Two sprays and that's it! That's all you need. Yes it's got a vintage vibe to it, but I believe that was intentional because it was considered old school back in 1991 when it was created. It's powdery, it's soft...if you don't go heavy on the trigger. To me it has just a tiny bit of Mackie minus the the thick syrupy fruits. It's like Mackie Sheer if that were to exist. On me White Diamonds settles down to a nice drier sheet fragrance. I like to pair it with the Madagascar Vanilla oil from Nest.

LilacSylph

I love the eau de toilette version of White Diamonds. It is rich and warm, spicy, dirty/ yet clean? and uplifting. It is like expensive classics in the style of Estee Lauder. However, I don't like the eau de parfum version (though it is more expensive!). It smells completely different - cheap, cloying, choking and not fresh. It is as though the true scent is stifled? I've not come across that phenomenon before.

Mc1995

I actually dig it. A classic for sure, most people talk about it in a negative or shady joking way, it’s certainly mature, a bit matronly, but it’s still pretty and well made. I know people think of a cloying annoying grandma when they say ‘old lady’ Maybe not everyone has good memories of their grandmothers the way I do 😅 being older is not a bad thing. I like the orange/peachy vibe it gives off which is probably the soapy aldehydes and all the white and yellow florals. The sandalwood dry down is very nice too. There are fragrances that smell like this that go for 80+ dollars. This takes a sophisticated nose and one that has a soft spot for vintage. These fragrances have layers and ‘guts’ if you will.

CurlGurl

The stars here are the aldehydes, ylang-ylang, citrus, and patchouli. It's warm, sparkly, sweet, and rich. I'm not sure why the rating on this one is so low. It's definitely an ageless classic. Best for broads over 30 ;)

Gemsense

My nose must be worn out cuz I just received White Diamonds and I put some one right away... It's so light and soft and so much aldehydes and jasmine and that not so good smelling jasmine.
I think when ppl say this is best in winter, must live in warm climates that have like 60 degree plus farenheit winters. Cuz I know tuberose and jasmine, usually need some heat to bloom beautifully when they are key players.

My sister and old bff from childhood would laugh at what I'm bout to say, but it's true... This smells like "Jone!". She's our nosy old lady neighbor that lived right in between our two houses that we grew up in. I'll have to find the right weather for this and force new memories to this scent. Gosh I smell Jone!
Hold up! Now further in ... Im getting whiffs of Samsara! Samsara is an ultimate fave of mine! Mmmm. I think I might like this!
Oh! A hint of Giorgio!.... My my my this is gettin good!
So it's the next day and I am smitten! This is an amazing, gorgeous fragrance! Wow! This is everything I have wanted for a winter fragrance this year and it has everything I desire in a fragrance 💞😲💕🥳

I disagree with the person who wrote the last review of WD before mine. White Diamonds is an exquisite masterpiece. I love it. As someone else said--and I agree--this is one fragrance that I would prefer to not have to go without. It is not "vintage". It's a TIMELESS, classic, elegant, sophisticated perfume.

I must confess that I had never used WD until a year ago. My mother never wore it and neither did my close female relatives (that I know of). When I first sprayed this on my wrists, I knew that I had smelled it before sometime in my life...at work, at social gatherings, in stores, the restrooms in department stores, movie theaters, bars, etc. I just never knew what it was and I never asked anyone. Women would walk by wearing White Diamonds and leave this beautiful perfumed trail behind them.

Yes, it's strong when you first spray it on. I thought so, too. You have to go lightly with this one. But it becomes even lovelier as it softens up. It turns into this wonderful powdery delicate exquisite fragrance. Liz Taylor knew what she was doing when she came out with White Diamonds. The numbers don't lie. People still love it to this day and they still buy it. I think some people hate WD because of its overuse. Don't listen to them. It's fantastic. I appreciate what Liz did with all her perfumes. She created something that all women could enjoy and pamper themselves with. White Diamonds is a high-end caliber fragrance at a very affordable price. Thank you, Liz.

ambergeese

White Diamonds is an overpowering, soapy, artificial mess of aldehydes and waxy lily. Beneath these, faint flickers of narcissus, carnation, tuberose, and a sweet amber-cinnamon accord play in the background. On clothing, the spicy-waxy florals, with lily at the forefront, are much more prominent, while on skin the gauze of soapy white aldehydes predominates. To me, White Diamonds feels one-dimensional and uninteresting: this is aldehydes and faint florals all the way down, with no contrast and no surprises. The base is a predictable, banal mix of of indistinct amber and musk.

Most everyone would call this a very mature scent. There are classic and aldehydic scents that sparkle with youthful, vampy glamor, and this is not one of them. These (such as strong chypres) remain hoydenish and spry through their bold contrasts and unapologetically bitter or pungent notes. They giggle and dance and stick their tongues out at anyone who dares disapprove. White Diamonds? She is an aging mountain of powder, putting on her best polyester Ellen Tracy dress to volunteer at her church, arranging the stiff plastic flowers and anxiously adjusting her hair, sneaking looks in her pocket mirror to check her slightly-more-pink-than-nude lipstick.

This is extremely powdery in a way that almost overshoots soap into ambiguous plasticky laundry scent territory. This is the smell of a bathroom that inexplicably also contains the washers and dryers for a dappled blush-and-beige house that is always too warm. There is moderately shaggy cream-colored carpet on the floors, and the toilet has a quilted seat cover. The plastic tablecloth in the dining room is inexplicably bright dollar-store-green. The aura that permeates this house is alien, somehow both sterile and stuffy. There is a sense of foreboding creeping through the walls because absolutely nothing in this house resembles anything of the outside world, except a single waxy lily in a small blue plastic cup in the kitchen. The rest of the house is entirely insular, sealed off from the natural world, a world where everything is the same every day, and every room is a little too warm and smells too much of an odd cleaning powder.

If intense white soapy powder with a touch of lily is your thing, try White Diamonds. If you are wary of soapy and powdery scents, or if you find heavy aldehydes without contrast stifling, this isn't for you.

Aiga1

Too vintage for me. I can see this as someone's signature scent, but I'll have to put it on hold for now.

rosesblanches

I absolutely love this. If I have to sacrifice all my perfumes except one, I'd save this! This is like TBS White Musk's older, sophisticated cousin with a glam job, a nice house and perfectly coiffed hair. I love how clean and fresh it smells, I love the aldehydes. Best of all, it lasts 2-3 days on my clothes! I dislike patchouli and I don't smell a single hint of it at all. If this is a dated scent, I don't want to be updated!

kells0s

I love this fragrance -on others. I've tried this twice on myself, several years apart, and it is sending me to the shower again. It is overpowering, so much so that I can't tolerate it even after trying to wash it off. Someone said earlier that it was like Deep-Woods Off, and I am getting that same kind of vibe-like spraying on Raid, and I am the ant trying not to suffocate. Disappointing, because it smells lovely on my co-worker. The only other scent that affects me this way is Elizabeth Arden Red Door-I love it on others, can't tolerate it on myself. P.S. I'm noticing now after 30 minutes that it is reminding me of perfume ad inserts in magazines.

Konga5000

I guess not a lot more to add, but I scored an older bottle in a gift set that looked several years old - and baby does this last ALL DAY LONG ! !
I call this a "stew perfume" because there are so many ingredients involved that - not a one comes in first place OR gets noticed. This is my FAVORITE "dumb daily grab" ! It IS more expensive than the flankers -- so there's that. It lasts longer than any of the flankers except for White Diamonds Luster . Really well done composition that is LEAPS above 90% of the other Drug Store Classics !

littleblonde

I wish this wasn't so strong or so powdery. It makes me sneeze. I like the feeling that it smells like a post-shower, but I'm not getting even the floral scent, just the soapy/powdery which I like a little. Maybe I should leave on my lower body and not put on my arms cause it is just too much. Maybe just a winter scent.

BellaElle

I can't even imagine what all the hype is about, nor why this one is such a classic. Mind you, I LOVE some of the classics -- Shalimar, Chanel No 5, etc. That being said, I could not WAIT to wash this one off my arm! It was a blast of Deep Woods Off and would NOT go away. I literally had to put my jacket on in a warm store just so I wouldn't smell as much of it on my bare arm. I had to wait about half an hour before I could drive home and get the smell off of me. I pulled my car into the garage and made a B-line for the kitchen sink. After two washings, I still couldn't get it off, so if you're a beast-mode fan, this might be the scent for you.
To be fair, I'm not a white floral, yellow floral, fresh, or citrus fan. I think it was the woody, warm spicy and powdery notes that lured me from the paper strip that made me want to sample it on my arm. I don't think I will make that mistake again. For those of you who love those notes, this might be a great one to try. I mean, it's a classic for a reason, right?

coffeefifofum

I wish I could blind smell this. I know I'd love it. Alas, one whiff and I was taken back to all the controversy and jokes around Elizabeth Taylor's heavily filtered commercials for the scent, the 30 Rock skit, the SNL skit, etc. Is the scent really that mature or is it the memory of the marketing campaign that makes it seem like an elegant woman is trying to pass for half her age while still exuding the breadth of her life experience and glamour? The scent is powerful and eternal, both as perfumeheads use the words and in mood. Alas, for me it also has baggage.

Anamandy

There is no doubt this has been reformulated. I tried the House of Taylor version and compared it to the original Parfums International version, and there is no comparison. Not terrible, and still wearable, but not as rich and complex as it was before. But even among the different strengths of the original version, I like this fragrance, but don't love it. My ultimate guilty pleasure out of this line is the parfum. So rich, voluptuous, and heavenly. It's clear Carlos Benaim wanted to make a fragrance as beautiful as Elizabeth. He certainly achieved his aim as WD's parfum is a stunner.
Like all WD's, or most ET products in general for that matter, silage and longevity are amazing. Still, even in the modern formulation, the EDP and EDT are very wearable. Honestly, I think all versions would have been popular even if Elizabeth Taylor had nothing to do with this perfume. It is a classic that stands out from the crowd.

rosebudhoney

I had to give *the* ultimate celebrity scent a try. I felt it was a bit mature for me (I’m a teenager), but it is nonetheless very pleasant. It reminds me of a relaxing, late night bubble bath with flower petals - not only in scent but in mood. It lasted through an entire concert where I was dancing all night, so I’d consider that a win! My friend who I was with thought it was “church lady,” but honestly? I’ve been known to love “church lady” scents and “modern” scents alike, so if you like a sophisticated, mature floral fragrance, this one’s worth a shot.

powederedoranges

There's *something* about this perfume. Yes, it does smell like your grandma and all her friends, and yes it is extremely strong. But there's something sparkling and intriguing about it, and I can't lay my finger on what it is. It's reminiscent of Chanel No.5, likely due to the aldehydes, and I get big, 80s white florals, a la Guerlain Jardins de Bagatelle and Givenchy Amarige, which makes sense given the era. Carlos Benaim is one of my favourite perfumers, and there's a thread between all of his perfumes that I just LOVE, including this one. I think it might be the amber, which grounds it, and also elevates it above other "big (huge) white florals." I really like this, and there's a reason it's so enduring.

Jhanemarie

From all indications of the notes in this perfume, I should love it. I was sure I would love it, lovely bottle and all. I do not. Something went horribly wrong. On me it is a screeching hateful old harridan that won’t leave, on a cheap whiskey binge, drenched in Camphophenique, chainsmoking unfiltered cigarettes and stomping sunflowers, wearing clothes she hasn’t changed for a week.

Konga5000

Nice. Old school (but not THAT old) . Sweet. Pretty . Basic. Good longevity for a cheapie. White Diamonds Lustre lasts even longer.
Worth a blind buy that will crave an itch next trip to T.J. Maxx / Ross / Marshall's .

Dcarlo

Let’s set things straight, White Diamonds is a real lady’s perfume. I see nothing remotely unisex about it. However don’t let this keep you away from this spectacular perfume.
I have adored it forever but I was never going to wear it despite being magnificent. It makes me feel too self conscious about it’s ladylike quality.
But with such a price, I got up the nerve to finally purchase 2 50ml bottles, an edp and an edt. Solely for my own pleasure at home.
The opening is a blast of aldehydes and flowers, mostly lilies and something that reminds me of gardenias. The heart is a dance of overwhelming white flowers, vintage glamour and opulence. Tuberose, jasmine and rose are the leading flowers here. Perhaps joined by some narcissus and a subtle cinnamon. And the dry down is magical, dirty, elegant and eternal. I perfectly smell sandalwood, a very intense moss, patchouli and a sexually disturbing civet although not included in the official notes.
So far I wear it at home because is a very popular perfume in my country and I can’t blame people for loving it. But I can see myself wearing it in public in no time because this is too perfect to be kept behind the walls of your house.
White Diamonds is really the spirit of Elizabeth Taylor. Extravagant, elegant, feminine, sensual, intense, passionate and everlastingly adorable!

Gemsense

Elizabeth Taylor is the only one that does patchouli right. I hate patchouli in perfumes but with ET's fragrances patchouli is not the main character. In fact she is only there to support the others and give them a leg to stand on. Which in turn enriches the fragrance and gives the perfume depth without being noticed. And i am so thankful for that! Most perfumes drown out the scent in patchouli and patchouli is always the standout and its soooo gross! I have not tried white diamonds yet but ive tried all the others with patchouli in them and i do not smell it in any if them. So if you hate patchouli, like i do, dont be turned off by it in the diamonds collection at least, cuz its just a supporting character and is not noticeable at all! And i hope i wont be eating my words after i finally try the White Diamonds, which i plan to buy right now.

Perfumedsecrets

One of my mom’s scents. Incredible and luxurious. I’m sure it’s different than it was in 1991, but it’s amazing on her.

elegantshnozzie

@Bluevelvet below said it best:
"Retro but in a good way, soft but sophisticated."
A friend of mine wore this in highschool and it reminds me of crisp fall mornings and friendship. The orange, cinnamon and aldehydes sing in this, it is the kind of fragrance I can take a deep inhale of and not encounter any rugged steps along the way. Just a smooth run of a sparkling and maternal smell. If White Diamonds were a color it would be glittery gold. Oldie but a goldie.

princelebii

The projection is REALLY AMAZING! A bomb of soapy and floral . I can't believe this is a celebrity perfume. The scent lasts from day to night. It is worth every coins purchased! The character is positive energy . Great for day wear. Also it can wear in the tropical country. Sillage is excellent. People will notice you since you walked over towards them.

Sunshineandsmiles

This perfume is my guilty pleasure. If it got better reactions I'd make it my signature perfume.
It's a happy sunny positive fragrance. Reminds me of casual sunny summer days and having fun. It truly makes me feel all those good stuff.

Don't get me started on longevity and projection. Easily beats all my other perfumes and is on par with my chanel perfume.

It's cheap as chips but work like a beast. I'm surprised this is so underrated.

My jpg perfumes last half as long as this does.

When I say beast, it's a beast.

It reminds me of how fragrances used to be bck in the days before they were watered down.
Im surprised this perfume hasn't gone down along with the rest.

amandavolpe

A sparkling blast of soap. An indolic bomb. Flowers in the snow. Iced oranges and cold cinnamon.

I love it. It smells both clean and dirty, a contradiction I appreciate in a few of my favorite perfumes (Chanel n° 5, vintage Miss Dior, Tabu by Dana).

Pure Poison was created by Carlos Benaim as well and it smells like a cleaner, more demure younger sister to White Diamonds. I much prefer this cheapie jewel.

However, White Diamonds is so strong a single spritz fills up the whole room, so I’m afraid of inflicting it upon other people. I like to wear it just before going to sleep. I’m not as brave as Elizabeth Taylor herself, but I think she might have appreciated the luxury of wearing fragrance to bed.

GirlOnFire

I revisited this iconic fragrance recently, the last time I experimented with White Diamonds was about 9 years ago (I was 22 back then just for reference). Let me just tell you that I am so surprised by how much I LOVE White Diamonds and all of the other Liz Taylor perfumes. Well, I’ll say this about the first time I tried it: I had been very experienced with adult fragrances even as a teenager but for some reason I could not stand White Diamonds. I thought it was too matronly, too mature (a lot of us when we are young say “old lady”). It’s NOT! Besides chemistry, hormones, diet, stress and all the other things that can affect a fragrance on your skin, I realised that White Diamonds is a stunning fragrance. I think there is something beautiful about essentially going through some very rough life experiences, heartache, all that stuff, I’ve gathered considerable life experience and have matured since I first tried this fragrance so I am not surprised that young people tend to not like this fragrance. Give it some years, some maturation, appreciation for the more mature things in life, you will end up loving this even if you hate it now! It is warm and enveloping. It is also very approachable. A very beautiful creamy white floral with sparkling aldehydes.

It reminds me both of snuggling in bed or venturing out in the rain with an umbrella and a zest for life. Or evening wear. A gala or ball. In one’s finery, as one does.

Incredible, impressive projection and sillage. Truly.

This is like the Chanel N°5 of celebrity perfumes: like Chanel, in which the beauty is that you can’t distinguish any of the florals, but overall it’s just this rather luxurious and unique aldehydic floral bouquet, White Diamonds has that same obscure floral aspect going on.

Lyndsey_loves_perfume

I know this is iconic and I love Elizabeth Taylor but this perfume just isn’t my cup of tea. In my opinion it’s just too powdery and aging for my liking.

I might try giving it another chance in the winter as it definitely gives me winter fragrance vibes.

Stillmagnolia

I’ve smelled this on others in past, and it’s so much flatter on me. But then, my chemistry usually takes a bat to whatever a fragrance brings and beats a few dings in it somehow. Now the body powder….. the body powder has far better performance for me. So as another member noted, I guess layering would be the way to go. I do get a very fizzy note, almost like the carbonation machine had a smidgeon of raspberry powder left in it that got in your plain water. The florals are really lovely. It’s just that on me, I find them almost nullified by carbonated raspberry lemonade. And while I love strong as well as “vintage” scents, there are others far better for me. I think it’d be fun to do a side-by-side comparison for all ET’s scents. Still, for the price and value, I’m happy to have this in rotation for fun and variation. Prob mostly at-home choice for me. I think I prefer enjoying this scent on other people. But, I live in a place with a lot of old infrastructure, so I always need some good body powder around! Though I have to say, for that, nothing beats Shelley Kyle, to me…..

AstridNyxRose

This fragrance is a sparkling, blingy masterpiece. The aldehydes and citrus on top have luster and brilliance, the heart is a bouquet of beautiful white flowers that ache to be noticed and admired, the base is a tender and cozy embrace. This is tied for my favorite scent (Elizabeth Taylor's Passion is also #1) and there's nothing quite like it in the world. It radiates elegance, extravagance and unbridled beauty.

Mlepnos

Not really my style, it's a bit too soapy, aldehydic and "vintage" for me (although I don't really mind vintage, I think Shalimar is amazing for instance), but white diamonds is very impressive in all other aspects. Great price value for its performance, I sprayed some on my clothes and I could still smell it several days after, if not a whole week!

shoppingscenter

This scent is the butt of a lot of jokes. I love the smell of it, though. This is one of the few white floral scents I can tolerate. I find many white florals to be sharp and soapy, but not this one. If I put my nose too close to my skin where I've applied it, there's a strong note of something; I don't know what it is, but it's chemical, and it smells a bit like motor oil. But... from a distance, this scent smells great. And fortunately, it has great silage. From a distance, there's no single overwhelming note. There's no sharp flowery soap or powdery scent that's in some other white floral scents. It smells sparkly and dazzling.

CloudLover

This is the perfume that helped me learn that I hate aldehydes, lily, and orris root. This perfume is in the same group as other powdery, aldehylic fragrances like Chanel no. 5 that I also can’t stand.

I don’t want to make anyone feel bad about the fragrances they love, and fragrances like this are super great value and very classy! Wear what you love 💕

stardenise16

I think this is like the Chanel No. 5 of celebrity perfume. Like No. 5, it has a vintage, older woman in their mid-50s and up type. It’s really good for the price. I think Elizabeth Taylor was also famous for her perfumes as well as her amazing acting career. I had a small bottle of this that I eventually gave to my grandmother. Hopefully, when I’m older I will try and wear this but for now White Diamonds isn’t for my age range.

Maja36

I wear designer fragrances to work ,many of them expensive, I just don't seem to bother to put all on my list here. However, the first working day I put on White Diamonds,I got positive reactions, unlike wearing popular fragrances. And in my line of work,to get reaction on a fragrance is truly something,I got multiple. Of course, that's not the reason I am wearing perfume.
This is a wonderful and very feminine floral bouquet,I get mostly the tuberose and jasmine on my skin, but the smell is so rich I can feel the rest of the notes as well, they're subtle but I can still detect them.
Lasting power is impressive for the price.I really can't understand the criticism about this fragrance. It's perfection ,classic female floral, and an amazing one! I am so glad to be able to purchase it.

jero

No5 in Hollywood stars' glamour, of old days glory, just it's not until 1991 a star was born in a perfume bottle, created by one of the best noses, my beloved Eau de Magnolia and Music For A While of Frederic Malle, Carlos Benaim is the name behind many works, including today's Libre.

Everything Elizabeth Taylor touched turned to glitter, this is more bright, tidy, even more heady, on the ultimate drydown it's more flowery. Peachy like today's No5 EDP, comparing to No5 of the last century the longevity of White Diamond lasts much longer, like her fame.

This work really makes a hollywood star immortal. I'm glad to know it's still produced in the market, and add its beauty to my collection beside extinct Joy and those No5 through time. Don't say you know or love No5 so well, here is a star more than just shining, it's itself a SUPERSTAR. PS for the VINTAGE version.

OdileVonRothbart

This was a Christmas present from an older man and--I like it but would never buy it myself. I find it overly sweet, cloying, middle of the road and...I feel like it is dated and something my mother or grandmother would wear. It isn't a sexy fragrance in the least. It smells clean and pretty and lasts a long time.

The price is good though and it is a well-made scent that hits all the notes mentioned above harmoniously but somehow, it is just not for me.

GooseWithAGrudge

This fragrance is... nostalgic, but that’s not quite the right word.

This is the scent of being kept in detention because of something stupid, while the detention teacher hovered around behind your back to make sure you were actually doing homework. This is also the scent of an overbearing relative who you’re trying to keep from going through all your personal affects while she’s in your house. This is the scent of the soul-crushing despair of going on fifteen minutes of being screamed at by a customer who is absolutely furious that she cannot use maxed out credit cards while you were working your first retail job.

From a technical standpoint there’s nothing wrong with this perfume. It should by all rights be a perfectly serviceable soapy white floral, but due to its strength and popularity among certain people in my past, I can’t smell this without cringing. If you are a fan of lilies and aldehydes and don’t have the associations I do with this scent, it is a good buy with good longevity and silage. I just apparently have some psychological trauma associated with it, which makes it impossible for me to enjoy.

Whit

Where to start with White Diamonds? I remember one of the cleaning ladies where I used to work wore it. I always complimented her and finally asked what she was wearing; "White Diamonds", she replied. I've had several female patients come in smelling amazing and when I asked what they were wearing, "White Diamonds" was always the answer. So, I obviously like the scent because nearly everyone I complimented wore it. It was never super strong on these ladies though; I would just catch the nicest whiffs of fragrance. I finally bought myself a bottle the other day. It's hard to describe this scent. On one hand, I get freshness from the white florals and aldehydes, but the dry down is sort of dirty, amber animalic. Elizabeth Taylor was indeed a Pisces and as a fellow Piscean, I can see this fragrance being very fitting; complex, mysterious, addicting, dreamy, otherworldly, the "old soul" of the Zodiac. White Diamonds is an inexpensive gem that's still going strong today. I'm actually amazed at how popular it still is and I'm glad to finally have it in my wardrobe.

JasminePetal

Wow, it overwhelmed me a bit with powder overload on first spritz, but after that it's surprisingly beautiful! Very soft, flowerly, chypre, sweet. It feels very light to me, compared to most perfumes that are considered 'classic', are often quite heavy in their sweetness and spice. This feels more sparkly like the name and exquisitely chique without being overbearing. It is quite a strong scent though, it carries. And it gave me a bit of unexpected anise vibe, probably a combination of some of the notes. Someone below desribed it as the most luxurious bubble bath, and I couldn't describe it in a better way!

Zethre

I have a small vintage bottle, unfortunately to me it smells of flowers and pee, not sure if it's turned, so I may try a new sample sometime

Jacob1984

I love WD!!

drew1184

My absolute favorite white floral. It smells like a bouquet. Just the right amount of patchouli and sandalwood in the background to keep it interesting. Reminds me of the 90s and my mother.

Amrita93

I was looking forward to WD since Diamonds and Rubies is absolutely amazing in my opinion, and it has a lower rating that WD.
Unfortunately, I didn't like it nearly as much. I hate admitting this, right after getting a new bottle, but it smells to me like cleaning liquid. Maybe I would've liked it if it didn't remind me of sanitized hospital rooms. Oh well..I'll try to finish it, but definitely not buying it again.

flyysince89

I find for myself that this perfume needs to be layered! Must have the deodorant spray, body wash, body lotion, powder and eau de parfum! I find that helps if you feel you have poor skin chemistry with WD! This is one you can't really mix with other scents as it will change the composition! My partner loves to smell this scent on me.

sidewalks

This was one of my favourite perfumes when I was six so I went and bought a "Parfums International" formulation of White Diamonds EDT. It's not what I remembered. I remember a bright and very special floral and the one I'm currently bathed in is a bit dusty, and masculine. It's very deep and ambery. I didn't really like it until I woke up the next day and my god, the basenotes are stunning. It's still not what I remembered, but the way the basenotes smell is worth waiting for. Total niche-vibes, and hard to describe other than it is addictive.

Bluevelvet22

I tried White Diamonds today for the first time and I am loving it! At first I liked it because it reminded me of my grandmother (I think she must have worn it sometimes) but then I started to enjoy it because it just smells amazing. Retro but in a good way, soft but sophisticated. The silage/longevity is out of this world on my skin. One spritz in the morning on my arm and its still working hard six hours later. It started out sweet, powdery and white floral and now its very oriental with something floral + some amber, musk and moss. Its cold and raining today. It might be overwhelming on a warmer day. I may have to buy a bottle.

My sweet Grandmother’s signature scent for two decades. I bought it in my late teens and it wasn’t for me (it is quite chemistry dependent) but she loved it and it smelled AMAZING on her. She had black hair and bright beautiful eyes like Liz. She didn’t have much but this perfume was always a decadent pleasure for her. I so enjoyed purchasing it for her for years after as I know she felt special wearing it. I get the comparisons to No. 5 as well. A perfume that makes no apologies! A classic to have in any collector’s perfume wardrobe.

A relative bought this as a gift for me a long time ago when I was barely even in double-digits age-wise. While I appreciated the thought the scent itself is not even sort of enjoyable to me. Incredibly, overwhelmingly powdery. When I hear the phrase "old lady perfume" this is exactly what I think of (perhaps the aldehydes). Not my thing at all.

Jac401

I have had this for over a week now, and I've worn it every day. I thought it was supposed to be a bomb, and I had to be careful not to overdo it, but I'm shocked at how soft it seems to be. I don't know if it's my bottle or not, but although I love the perfume, I can barely smell it.

I like a strong perfume, so not too much needs to be worn. This one needs around 10 sprays to make any impression at all. My bottle is depleting very quickly.

I love the perfume and how it develops, but have no way of knowing if it's my nose or the perfume that is at fault here. It's no use asking husband what he thinks, as he is anosmic to most perfumes, even the ones he wears himself.

My bottle says it is made in Spain, but doesn't mention Elizabeth Arden, only that it is made under licence to the House of Taylor. Anyone out there experienced this with their White Diamonds?

I'm so disappointed that I can't smell it more.

oliviarose

Batch 5PA2. House of Taylor. EDT.

Do NOT spray more than once. I put three sprays on my bedsheets last night and had to sleep in it. My nostrils are still blown out 12 hours later! On a mercenary note, the sheer amount of intensity packed in here makes me feel fairly respected as a customer. This perfume gives you as much as you want, and more. It doesn't care what you think you can handle, it just tells you to handle it. You chose it so you can bloody well deal with it.

Once the aldehydes leave, it does give you this sense of falling backwards onto a luxuriously cushioned bed of white and gold petals, being cradled and nestled among them (the aldehydes probably pushed you in!). I feel like I'm in a theatrical dressing room with one of those lighted mirrors, wearing a satin dressing gown and enjoying the mountain of roses my admirers have sent backstage.

Something about this scent isn't completely me--I have what several people have termed, completely independently, strong Labrador energy.
This perfume isn't that at all--it's gracious and sophisticated, a little removed from the everyday concerns of the common man, and its wearer floats above the ground rather than walking (I tend to tread firmly and find the nearest mud puddle, whether on purpose to play in, or, more often, it happens by sheer accident and isn't very welcome, and i just have to make do and laugh it off).
White Diamonds is all very much a vision of a kind of lady I idealise, but am not. That's okay, it just means it's not my signature scent. Actually, the White Diamonds type of woman is not the sort I truly want to be--"sweet but grounded Earth Mother" is more what I'm going for, really. I'll be honest about that.

What I do like about White Diamonds is that it says "Feminism? I didn't have the benefit of it and I still bloody well climbed to the top through sheer willpower. I just ignored the misogyny and did it anyway, with complete integrity in word, thought, and deed, because I deserved to be there. I believed it so hard that everyone else couldn't help but see it my way too." Or perhaps I just sense this because my boyfriend's grandmother gave it to me, and that is exactly what she did. She rose from local councilman's secretary in the 50s to head of HR at a prominent bank in the 80s, then left it all to dominate the state real estate market. Absolute terror of the office. She's known as a dragon lady even in her private life, but I love her dearly, and she loves fiercely. She's a Leo and won't shut up about it either. Always perfectly dressed and coiffed, still dyes her hair in her 80s, despairs of my love for flannel.

Liz Taylor might have been a Pisces but this to me is a VERY Leo perfume. It's what Leo wants to be, naturally attention-grabbing without having to ask for it. Asserts itself and allows everyone to bow down before it, but always in the most gracious way possible.

It's not me, but I'm not going to let go of this perfume. It's too gorgeous. And I don't at all object to a little whiff of it clinging to my clothes as I search out my signature scent/s. I can also see myself wearing this when I need to give myself the courage of a lion, resting in this scent's security of knowing itself and exactly what it wants, and bolstering my strength to match it. When I need the spirit of the Leo woman in my life, this will be my touchstone.

This is a scent that transcends just evoking a memory or an idea. It is designed to be memorable and create memories, not relive them.

Did I mention it is sexy? --well, did I really need to? It's not sexy in itself but the confidence brings forth sexiness.

In summary: old lady perfume? Hell yes. Old ladies have had a lifetime to sniff out the best perfumes, so pay attention to them. Or by God White Diamonds will make you.

Jacob1984

This scent sadly isn’t for me!! :(

derkargy

Sparkling, luminous, ethereal, like Liz's favourite diamonds. A true gem, still standing after thirty years.

There aren’t words to express how much I love this perfume. This is the best one Elizabeth Taylor ever did, and I think it fitted her to a T. The rest in her line are good, but there’s nothing like White Diamonds. To me, this perfume is so opulent, so luminous and it does evoke the image of diamonds glistening in the sun when you wear it. It is extremely soapy and that is the best part about it. It makes you smell like you’re taking an extremely decadent bubble bath after pouring the entire bottle in the tub. However, for all those who have reservations about wearing a “grandma perfume” in public, I have the solution since I had the same doubts. Wear it to bed, especially if you have white sheets. You fall asleep feeling like a million bucks, taking in the coldness the perfume radiates which actually is so comforting to me while I fall asleep. It’s actually my favorite bedtime perfume, and if you’re gonna wear it out, do it in cold weather, especially in the morning. It works really well in the cold.

forêt

I just bought this on a whim at Ross because it was so inexpensive and because I wanted to reference it since I am quite a collector now.. Anyway I wasn’t prepared for the LOVE I feel it! I took a bath to wash off the lovely Rose Ikebana I was testing and decided to rock this one this Sunday. I was a Chanel #5 girl all through the 90’s and oughts and even all the way until 2017 it was my only fragrance except sometimes Coco as well. Anyway so this reminds me of it but it is different. Of course it smells familiar- someone I know must have worn it. Anyway I am pretty shocked to have a new fragrance friend. It’s really different than things I normally wear these days- like Angel Muse, Oud Palao, Gris Charnel, Ambre Précieux, Oppoponax...

Omg ..... I totally adore this perfume, I've been wearing it for years, it's my go to signature scent

Tolkashutka

Not sure if I got a grey market product or not... I found a 2 pack of White Diamonds EDT at my local Sam's Club for $35 around the holidays.

Like many others, I have fond memories of maternal figures wearing this growing up. So, I was ecstatic to see it offered, and wondered if it was "my time" that I was grown up enough to wear this.

While it smells similar, there's something definitely different about this scent now than I remember. I want to love it, but every time I spray it, I get a gnarly headache, where it feels like an instant sinus infection coming on (ouch!). To be fair, I am a bit of an oversprayer, so perhaps this is just a one and done kind of spritz.

Piggybacking off of @see4carly's comment, my bottle on the bottom says "House of Taylor", and it seems that there has been some reformulation over the years. I'd be interested in trying to find a bottle from "Parfums International" and determining if it still gives me that same doozy of a headsplit.

sammysam75

Oh Dear. Love ET and WD has such a place in a lot of peoples hearts, it is with regret that Arden are really running the entire line down, WD particularly. ET tried to keep ingredients high quality but since her passing the silage and longevity are not as good and they have started to remove the ring of "diamonds" around the bottle, using a plastic sprayer, with passion they have also changed the lid which had ET on it. Shame !!! Destined to become a whisper of itself.......... sigh.

perfume-expert

According to perfumerscent.com/white-diamonds-by-elizabeth-taylor/
They rated The Sillage weak. about 6.6 something. but here the perfume has a strong Sillage. I personally feel the Sillage of this product is weak.
Will this perfume work well during Summer.

Welk

It’s the ultimate scent of femininity! Lasting, projecting and delightful. I love wearing it in the warmer months especially but it’s great for anytime of year....pay no attention to the nay sayers who insist this only for old ladies. It’s just for ladies period!

rye

For all of you so terrified of becoming an 'old lady', may you never have to face that fate. Embrace the alternative!

Ceziate

This scent isn't for me but it's incredibly nostalgic. I suspect that this may be the scent my mother wore back in the 90s, since it came out in 1991. I almost definitely spritzed myself with this (or something very similar) a few times when I decided to go spelunking through her purse while in my preteen 'investigating everything' phase. The nostalgia train continues though because it also smells a lot like the high end lipsticks my grandmother used to wear.

It's just too bad that due to those associations it feels a little too Old Lady for me. I may need to keep it around to spritz my sheets or something because it's so nostalgic and comforting but I won't be wearing it.

jacksparrow_1700

By all accounts I should like this one because all of the notes are quite nice but it smells like cat pee to me. Not even Chanel No. 5 smells this much like cat pee.

Porcelain-Doll

Just bought White Diamonds EDT 100ml today in my local store for €25(Irish euro) a blind buy too! No testers in sight! I adore Chanel No. 5 and really anything with aldehydes so I knew I would love this but didn’t realise how much. Dare I say I think I prefer WD to No.5? WD sparkles and fizzes and the longer you wait after the initial spray the more beautiful it becomes although I like the initial spray. All I get is aldehydes and white flowers and this makes me a happy girl. A Rich, creamy, sweet powdery floral that is just heavenly and lasts forever on the skin, I still can’t believe this is so cheap.

WD is a true lady’s perfume...it just oozes femininity. A sophisticated floral perfect with tea dresses in spring as well as a little black dress on a winter’s date night wrapped up in a beautiful coat.

I love old Hollywood and all the greats so this blind buy wasn’t a gamble at all. 10/10 for sillage and longevity.

flyysince89

This is a scent I'm sure everyone has experienced before - almost everyone has an aunt, mother or grandmother who swears by it! This is a perfume for a vivacious character who wants to be smelled before being seen! It's a very rich, opulent and poignant scent. It is definitely an acquired taste. If you can make it through the top notes this is truly a nice fragrance. Also, you don't need very much of it! Use a light hand!

Jacob1984

This I such a classic, Very Beautiful my bottle is from 2013 so it’s pretty strong. I love WD, It’s absolutely gorgeous and last so long. This is what old money smells like. So beautiful. Longevity is forever with 3 or 4 sprays and silage is perfection. Rip Liz Taylor your scent lives on!!

Mona708

Overall, I have a positive opinion of this perfume. The small bottle I have is originally part of a perfume sampler I received as a Christmas gift when I was 14. It still smells great nearly 20 years later. I like wearing it to church or other special occasions when I know I’ll be around a more conservative crowd. Gucci Guilty and YSL Black Opium strike me as granddaughters of White Diamonds.

ALC555

This is old hollywood scent which makes it a classic. A straight and very masculine friend wears this and recommended it. Others commented that it is very good and thought l wore a new cologne. It turns into a masculine musky fragrance when l wear it. Makes me feel l am in a set of black and white films with James Dean, Marlon Brando and, of course, Elizabeth Taylor. Funny White Diamonds smell better on a man than on a woman. This is my third bottle of 100ml edt.

KittyDeBeauvoir

This was ME.

I can't believe I haven't reviewed this until now!
I wore this 5-to-15 years ago.
This is the first perfume I remember *craving*. Really lusting after until I begged my brother to get it for me for my birthday.
He did, and I became a devotee!
I wore this everywhere. EVERYWHERE.
This was my daily-wear perfume. My work perfume (Yes, I overwhelmed some colleagues). My going-out perfume. My Just-After-A-Shower perfume.
I very rarely wear this anymore because - As you probably predicted, folks - I indulged in it too much, and wanted to try new things.
But I will never think this a bad fragrance. It's not. It's amazing. Always will be.
This has crazy projection, and sillage is enormous! This smells *REALLY* good on other people.
The scent is a classic mixture of aldehydes with white florals, and so heavy you need a MACK truck to lift them.

To paraphrase the great ET herself:
"Big girls need big diamonds"... and for me, as a teenager always entranced by the ever-elusive glamourous life, this White Diamond was big enough for me!

***

Kitty rating: 8/10.

figwasp

This is just soap on me. I'm surprised, as I expected it to be a bit more... something. Sophisticated? Lush?

The other White Diamonds are soapY, but have something else interesting going on as well that lifts them. This one doesn't. It's not a particularly luxurious, creamy, shower-fresh, or modern soap either, it's just basic soap from my childhood, the kind that's a bit hard and doesn't lather up well.

honeybee29

Guys, I feel like I have been sleeping on this fragrance.
It smells rich. It smells sophisticated. It makes me feel like a serious, goal-driven woman who knows she can accomplish whatever she’s set her mind to today. I get a very classy incense vibe. The incense I get with this Is actually what made me buy it. This is a really classy fragrance and the price is great. I feel like it’s much more appropriate for the colder months, it’s too deep and rich for warmer months. It’s lovely.

aprilsandoval0704

Always loved this perfume in the winter. I've been wearing it off and on since I was in my twenties (I'll be 40 in December).
I try to be light handed with it since I know it's potent lol I put a bit on the other day because we had a little cold snap and my 16 year old daughter smelled me, smiled, and asked me if I was wearing my 'old lady perfume' 🤣🤣🤣 I told her I was, and apologized in case I offended her nose and she smiled bigger and said she always loved when I wore that one.
Very nice.

correspondencepersonal

This fragrance has been so super popular in both Texas and California that it has defined two or more decades of perfume. People LOVE this! It won all sorts of awards when it launched.

I have tried this several times, it is good with my chemistry after the initial nuclear strength blast which smells like extremely strong BATHROOM SPRAY. I couldn't bring myself to buy this, even though the dry down was HEAVENLY with my chemistry.

I have an aversion to super popular fragrances that everyone can clearly identify when you are within close proximity to them. I was like this with Poison, which was super popular in the 1980's. I just wouldn't wear it while everyone else was wearing it. I like to wear perfumes that have an individuality to them, something unique. For this reason, I will revisit popular fragrances years after they first launched, just to wear something that is not so trendy and extremely popular... at the time I choose to wear them. Or, I'll look for perfumes with similar notes, but with a new twist -- like a flanker or rival brand that is doing their own spin on the ultra super popular fragrances.

White Diamonds has rave reviews. An ex boyfriend used to completely light up when he would talk about this fragrance because he had such fond memories of his mother and grandmother wearing this fragrance. This is a strong impression for a lot of people. (It is extremely unique, I have not smelled anything with a similar enough opening to White Diamonds where it would be a dupe or even close to the unique aldehydes that form the beginning of the fragrance).

A lot of people have formed an emotional bond with this fragrance which is directly linked with someone that they have known. Scent is very powerful like this. It resonates in the memory for years. I know that the fragrance is good and is super popular, but it may be so popular that it rules itself out as one that I would be drawn to as a "signature" perfume.

This is why it is so important for fragrance lines to continue to create flankers with slight similarities, but with a new impression - a new twist on the theme of the original.

I recently tried Sparkling White Diamonds which is similar to White Diamonds, it begins with the same aldehyde opening (the champagne fizzy burst), but it is much less fierce, a bit softer. I love it! It is not as powerful as the original White Diamond formula, but is closely kin...like the younger sister or daughter to the original White Diamonds. There are similar qualities and notes but they are not an identical dupe or clone.

----------

For those of you that still love White Diamonds and want to wear the fragrance, but a lighter strength - you will probably like this in the EDT. A lot of perfumes vary the perfume version compared to the EDT. White Diamonds EDP and EDT are similar enough to still resemble each other very closely. If you've been told to "tone it down" while wearing the EDP -- or the fizziness of the nuclear strength aldehyde opening is something that "turns you off" - you will probably like the EDT better. (The EDT is still a STRONG fragrance, don't get me wrong. But is not so clearly identifiable as the EDP with all of the White Diamond fizz).

----------

Elizabeth Taylor has left quite a fragrance legacy.
The more perfumes in her line that I've tried, the more I see what she accomplished. She had a great NOSE! Awesome fragrances!

annelisemaurer2560

I wore this to a Nick Cave concert: I was young, cute, alone, and smelled like a luxurious grandma. It all felt like a perfect combo for the occasion.

Wondersmith

It's lovely! A creamy, soapy scent that becomes crumbly and powdery, which I like. Smells just like Dove soap but super concentrated. It's cozy and makes me feel like wrapping a big, fluffy, freshly laundered and dried robe on.

goingblonde

A sharp slightly soapy & brash White Floral.Eventually dries down to a nice Tuberose/Amber .
Very aldehydic and some days just looking at the bottle I can imagine the headache it can give me :( Other days I love it .
Heavy silage and almost un-ending longevity .

seamagik

I love White Diamonds, but the bottle I bought last year had a very abrasive powdery quality that was choking and nauseating. I tried it every few days for a couple of weeks before giving up and dropping it off at a charity shop with Diamonds and Rubies, which was even worse. Every time I tried them I would have a coughing fit and feel like throwing up for days after. Pity. I miss it.

I got my first bottle at 21. I knew nothing about dosing and spayed it on with no regard for myself or anyone else. (Hangs head in shame)

CarmenTudor

Granny cozy scent. Flowery and powdery. Headache inducer.

meg0825

White Diamonds is a mature aldehydic floral, but better than its low rating would suggest. Sharp and soapy at first then the white florals emerge. Sweet, spicy, and voluptuous. A powdery incensy-amber base. Classy!

BlondeMoments

My nose doesn't do aldehydes..bitter soapy aldehydes are all I get. Same with chanel #5 :(

Rinio

I spray this once in a while and only 1 time when I miss my family as it was popular when I was a child. I love it but more than once sprayed it changes immediately into a Granny perfume.

aprillynnmorrison

I used to like this, bought it for really cheap at a black friday sale. I understand now why it was really cheap. It's incredibly strong, so don't wear too much (half a spray is all you need). It has nice notes, but it's best thought of as the absinthe of perfumes--and not in a good way. Definitely best on a super cold winter's day, and even then there's better options

casznava

My grandma's signature scent.

Headache inducing.

StillJuliaGayle

There is a good reason that there are more dislikes than likes or loves and the rating is only 2.92. Actually a few good reasons: neroli with adelhydes, neroli with orange flower, neroli with oak moss, neroli with amber, neroli with patchouli, neroli with ylang-yland and neroli with musk. It just produces a staggering headache-inducing miasma.
There are too many things thrown into one pot and some of these ingredients simply don't mix with others and were not meant to mingle. Like neroli. One of the "Unholy Trinty": Youth Dew, Alfred Sung and White Diamands... bleech!

annxyz

Regarding a previous review preceding me : I have worn Chanel #5 and also White Diamonds . In my opinion White Diamonds smells more complex and lasts the entire day . There was a time when Chanel #5 was a remarkable and well made perfume that was distinctive.Sorry to say it, but it is now a dismal shadow of its former self and lasts about an hour . The price for the quality is ridiculous , and though it is “iconic” it is poorly made now.

DahliaBurns

This smells like a bouquet of white florals and Japanese mimosa incenses! With a hint of Nag champa! My mother and aunt used to wear this back in the 2000s. It was overwhelming then . But now I’ve learnt to appreciate it to the point of actually falling in love with it! It’s just a lovely one. Don’t be afraid to try it! 5 out of 5 . Perfume shouldn’t have an age limit! It’s about you feeling good about wearing it! Sophistication at its finest!

UniProcrastinator

Bought this out of impulse before a first date since I forgot to apply any perfume at home. First smelt it, I thought the super intense smell was similar to sniffing a bucket of soap. Once it settles down, it does smell quite classy. It also has a unique smell that you can identify with one good sniff. Don't be scared off by the hate surrounding WD, it's all depending on how you wear it.

Mystères du Château de Dé

White Diamonds Eau de Parfum. This is one of my favorite mood scents for a room. It smells like a neo-classical or rococo decor by Dorothy Draper. Like mid-century Disney animation - Cinderella (1950) and Lady and the Tramp (1955). Some kind of dramatic white swirl (white floral) - a mirror frame, a cloud of magic sparkles, a gestural chandelier or doric column, white fountain, dramatic stairs, or glass slipper, over a palette of jewel-toned color (orange, violet, rose). EDP isn't as inexpensive as the EDT. But it's a much headier fragrance. I feel it in my nose, in-between my ears - really in my head.

I'm a guy and I can't wear EDP on my skin but I happily live in White Diamonds for several hours, a couple times a year. I do miss smoking with this fragrance.

Catsylvania

Once upon a time when discovering White Diamonds for the first time many moons ago, I remember being shocked by it in the worst kind of way and as such I've stubbornly avoided it for too long rather unfairly.

I bought this during a Christmas sale because it was super cheap and didn't expect much. Turns out, I liked the scent quite a lot, and the aldehydes are nowhere near as strong and offensive as I remember them being way back. I really like the idea of the crisp clean, flowy aldehydes mixed with bright white flower notes, and the way orange notes seem to sparkle as if it is indeed sunlight shining on some beautiful white diamonds.

Overall silage is pretty decent, and I noticed that while initially the scent might appear overpowering, it will certainly reduce in strength in just about half an hour. Longevity is alright, and the scent can last the standard 4-5 hours but reapplication might be recommended.

kayleenanncooke

This is very pretty. I have avoided it for a long time because I saw the hate that it got and the popularity that it had and I figured it was for more mature women. No it's beautiful. It's breathtaking, it's gorgeous. It's sweet and sour powdery floral with decent longevity and good projection. I'm going to purchase the full size bottle for both my mom and I. I know she will love it. What's not to love about it.

Vanillastorm40

I know it's a classic but IMHO, a bad take on Chanel #5.

mintycharm

I never got this fragrance because I always hated it. It always smelled like a cheap old lady perfume. My mom used to wear it -- she's an attractive woman and it just seemed like too matronly of a scent for her. I'm not sure if it was her body chemistry or what, but I never caught any floral notes or complexity from it. To me it all just melded into a strange musk. I guess one plus is the powerful sillage, which is how I could even remember the smell at all. Overall I feel this perfume is just way too mature for anyone under 60.

janelbragg

I was in the grocery store not long ago, in the floral section, when I got a whiff of a gorgeous flowery scent. I went up and asked the woman working there what flower I was smelling. She pointed in the direction of some flowers, I went over there, and they were not it. The trail was still there, and I followed the trail of the scent to the staff room, where that woman had gone. I said, the smell is coming from in here. The manager said, I just peeled a tangerine. I walked away thinking, that is not it. Then the woman who I first talked to called out, "and I wear White Diamonds..." I turned around and I said "that's it!" So I quickly bought some on sale for Christmas at the pharmacy. I appreciate it very much.

ivadim

Красиво скроен аромат, много приятна изненада

jaybo.shouse

Omg, Do I love this perfume. White diamonds is so beautiful. There will never be another celebrity scent this good. I adore this smell, Just sublime. Elizabeth Taylor made a masterpiece by making WD along side Passion another beautiful masterpiece by Elizabeth Taylor, Elizabeth Taylor knew how to make good perfumes!!

Ellie2006

Fascinating reviews on what used to be my signature fragrance....my first bottle was purchased duty free, and the first impression I had was of a huge bunch of white flowers. It was sparkling with life and very feminine. I always received compliments when wearing it and my partner bought it for me for years, as it was one of a small number of fragrances that did not make him sneeze!
The partner is long gone and I recently purchased a bottle, for a fraction of what it used to cost, just for old times sake. The formulation is not the same - it smells so cheap and gave me a violent headache.

felicite34

Beautiful aldehyde perfume. The opening is so sparkly, like champagne bubbles. Reminds me very much of Van Cleef & Arpels "First" EDT. Go easy on it though, it could be overwhelming to those in your immediate vicinity if you don't.

Lalilo1212

@See4carly thank you for that info, according to it I have the "vintage" formula. I used to wear this in highschool, and I absolutely loved it. It made me feel pretty and confident. I continued to wear it till I met my then boyfriend, now husband, who always made fun of it saying it smelled like for an older woman. So that's why I stopped wearing it. Late 20's my mother in law gifted me a small 1oz of this beauty, used it a few times, many times I wanted to throw it away or donate it, I'm glad I didn't. Back then I had no idea of reformulations. I have about 25% percent left, every now and then I spritz a little to go back in time.

I also don't get why people say it's strong. This is such a delicate scent, there is nothing loud in this.

guirlainista

That was my honeymoon fragrance ❤️

lupina_haiku

I adore this scent. To me it describes a lady of confidence, mature and classy, but not 'old'. The white florals and warm spice work very well together with just enough veviter, Amber and orrisroot to soften the edge of the spice and just enough citrus to marry the florals to the spice. The EDT is very strong so I have to go very easy with this at work, silliage tends to be moderate after an hour (shoulder to elbow length on me). But have gotten compliments from several people but again this is very strong. I have to wait at least an hour before its cloying attack for attention dies down to a pleasant acknowledgement.

Amilly692

I tried on white diamonds at a mall and didn't like it. My husband smelled it on me and said it smelled good, and he rarely comments on my perfumes. So I bought a bottle off of Amazon, and I have been wearing it off and on. Now that I am not surrounded by other fragrances, White Diamonds has come through for me. I have tried other perfumes from the times ( Avon's unforgettable comes to mind), and have been horrified by how 'old' they smelled. I feared WD would soon follow, over the pleasant Vintage line into icky 'old lady' Territory. To my surprise though, it did not. It is soapy, and delicately feminine. Yes, this lady wears expensive things, but she doesn't flaunt it. It is soft, not screechy. There is almost a creaminess to it, but not of the milky variety.
I sprayed 2 times on my shirt this morning, and I can still smell it, but it isn't filling the room or making people cough. I has also lasted fairly long, more than 6 hours.
It's starting to grow on me. Classy, soapy, clean, refined.

see4carly

From what I can determine there have been three different manufactures/formulas of this fragrance. All three smell a bit different to me. I think whether or not you like "White Diamonds" will have a lot to do with which formulation of the fragrance you own. Look at the bottom of your bottle, there will be a clear round sticker with the manufactures details.

"House of Taylor"
(The latest and by far the worst one, chemical-smelling)

"EA Fragrances Co."
(High-Quality well-blended fragrance)

"Parfums International"
(The original department store formula. Truly the best version of this masterpiece.)

nadarann

Well i love this smell so much even though my friend told me it like a perfume use in the living room but it smells good for me and it lasts me all day, even after the shower, i still smell it in my wrist. totally love it.

Feige

Tried it on the airport today. It’s a warm and fresh scent that I imagine a mature, sophisticated and confident woman would rock. It reminds me of luxury soap. Absolutely love it, though my boyfriend described it as “ old lady died in a bathroom” scent, so it’s not up everyone’s alley.
