Classique Eau de Parfum by Jean Paul Gaultier is a Amber Floral fragrance for women. Classique Eau de Parfum was launched in 1992. The nose behind this fragrance is Jacques Cavallier. Top notes are Rum and Tincture of Rose; middle notes are Vanilla Orchid and Narcissus; base notes are Vanille, Amber, Tonka Bean and Sandalwood.

A fragrance that promises pleasures ... brash and sweet, it makes people recognize you with their eyes closed.

Classique is produced in EDT and EDP concentration; it was earlier named JPGaultier Eau de Parfum.

Eau de Parfum (EDP) is made of rose, which seduce in the top notes together with rum essence. Sophisticated vanilla orchid and daffodils rule the heart, while sweet amber, sandalwood absolute, tonka bean and velvety Bourbon vanilla caresses in the base.

The bottles and metal packages also differ for EDT and EDP version. Eau de Toilette, comes in a frosted glass bottle and a silver metal can, while EDP comes in a bottle dressed in a lacy dress and in golden metal packaging.

Jacques Cavallier signs the perfume, designer of the bottle is Saint Gobain, while Jean Paul Gaultier personally designed the boxes.

I was looking for this perfume, but I cant find it anywhere online for sale? did they change the bottle design into this red-dressed one? or am I stupid

PLUMPIE

I have a love hate relationship with this scent. One day it's just lovely and sweetly spicy, other times the acetone nail polish remover note takes over and it gives me a headache. There is nothing like the EDP though it's one of my staples and always stays in my collection because it is so unique and nostalgic.

vibrant.girl

Classique EDP walked - no, strutted - so that LDBS could run. This has the sweetness, the animalic sexiness, the floral maturity... but with rose in lieu of orange blossom. I treasure my vintage bottle (from 2016, right before reformulation) and hope I never run out. If I want that flirty-sexy-ultra-feminine vibe of LDBS but I want to smell totally unique, I pull this out. I wasn't sure how I'd get along with it since it's definitely a vintage frag with PRESENCE... and I'm so glad it suits me. 10/10

Aeternitas

This fragrance is unmatched.
I mean, there are plenty of unique fragrances out there, but Classique holds its own.
I have the lace corset bottle, and now that I know there has been a bottle change and reformulation, I hope like hell I can make my precious lace bottle last.

Classique's sex appeal is off the charts.
She is elegant, but shameless; she wants to let her hair down and show you what's under her silk dress. She makes intense eye contact you can't look away from.
She'll make her desires your obligation.

Her boozy, lusty rose and vanilla notes will embrace you by the neck, and once the other base notes come into play, you're staying the night at her place, whether you like it or not. (Chances are, you will like it.) ;)

I can understand how the modern generation would dislike this, as it's not the likeable fruity-floral or sticky sweet gourmand we've become so accustomed to over the past 20 years. Classique is certainly strong in comparison to what you would find in beauty stores today.
But let me tell you, THIS is what you wear when you're feeling like stopping traffic.
This is the fragrance that you grace yourself with on your most confident days, when you are feeling like more woman than anyone can handle.

Classique is long lasting, and great for winter - day or night. I would even wear this in spring or summer, but with a light hand.
For me, this is a special occasion fragrance, or whenever my confidence is through the roof; when I want to be feminine, yet fully in control.

Oh, I love her so.

So sexy, warm, alluring, seductive, feminine, and beautiful! This opens with a warm, powdery, boozy, floral, vanilla rose scent. As it dries down the vanilla, amber, and sandalwood become more prominent, and the powdery and rose notes become more soft. This is such a sophisticated, elegant, classy, and classic fragrance.

I still have my bottle from around 2010 (which is what I’m reviewing) when I was in my early 20s, and I still wear it to this day. I loved wearing this back then when I wanted to feel more grown up, pulled together, elegant, and sexy. Now that I’m in my mid 30s it’s still all of those things to me besides the more grown up part. It’s just such a gorgeous and really well done fragrance that I hope to always have in my collection.

The performance is really exceptional! The longevity is incredible, I can still smell it on me the next day. The projection is excellent, it radiates out at least a few feet. A real powerhouse fragrance, so you only need a spray or two. I think that this makes it a good value since such a small amount goes such a long way.

Not sure about this... I had this back around 2003/4 and remember it being a lot more similar to the EDT. I've just bought from eBay as I'm on a nostalgia trip and it's sooooo soapy! Has it changed? Have I changed? Is it a bad bottle? It's like super concentrated washing up liquid, with a hint of rose. After about 3-4 hours it softens and is quite nice, but not sure it's worth the initial soapiness. I may well sell on, and am off to seek out the EDT of my memories...

abc1111

This was my first perfume love. Used it a ton during 2010s. It’s a powerhouse! I felt mature, sophisticated, and sexy when I wore this. I’m not in love with the fragrance anymore but will never get rid of my bottle. Classique Essence is my new favorite from JPG, but, alas, it’s discontinued.

HYLAS

Good lord! I feel like I took a risk bidding on this one, and I am not disappointed!

Classique opens beast-mode, enveloping you in a veil of warm, spicy musk that leans heavily floral, though the powder-bomb that first greets you does lift off fairly swiftly. I am surprised not to see gardenia listed among the notes, as this is literally all I can smell! The composition does lighten slightly during the dry-down, but only very slightly, leaving you with some gorgeously rich sillage - ever so slightly soapy, though this is not overwhelming by any means.

I can't say I can detect any of the rum, and even the rose is absent to my nose but, given how nostalgic I find gardenia in general, I'm okay with this. Furthermore, there is some serious vanilla drifting throughout, which adds warmth and dimension, not to mention sex appeal. Classique does faintly bring to mind Scandal le parfum with that vanilla-and-floral combo (and why do I keep smelling gardenia where there is none?), though Classique is nowhere near as sweet and sickly.

This fragrance settles into a comforting signature-worthy scent that, in my opinion, feels timeless (while still being a subtle nod to the 90s by way of the associated nostalgia). It's sexy in a mature way, but doesn't stray into that hit-or-miss powerhouse territory the eighties provided us with, and instead treads a fine between potency and understated subtlety.

In short, Classique is a scent that will age gracefully with you - matching the vibe of a woman who knows her worth, but doesn't feel the need to shout about it.

(Please note: this is a review of the original vintage fragrance.)

natasha28

This scent isn't for everyone. it's a nice scent I'm not really sure if I think it's okay or if I like it. I don't like it enough to want to buy it and I don't think I'd keep it if gifted. It was interesting to try it. I has a sexy smokey powdery incense vibe to me. I think it's more for older women 30-60's and for winter nighttime. At the end of the day the vanilla is more pronounced. It has a good sillage when first sprayed, but the sillage and longevity aren't great. I doesn't smell super boozy, but it does make me think of someone drinking in a leather chair with a cigar. The rose isn't really pronounced, it would be an older rose and not a fresh rose. I give it credit for not smelling like a lot of other perfumes on the market today. I think if I wore it too often or sprayed too much that it might make me feel sick

LEM922

Blind bought this from fragrancenet, when I noticed they had the bottles with the lace corset. First of all, I'm absolutely in love with the bottle. Now I want to collect all of them. Checked the batch code and the production stated as 2016, so right before the reformulation into the red corset. This perfume, truly lives up to its name. Classique. It's a classic! Upon first spray, you get hit with this really powdery rose with a slight boozy edge to it. Then as it dries down, it turns into this smooth, vanilla amber scent. I could see how some people wouldn't like this because they would think it smells old-fashioned, or not on trend, but personally I really like this. I like it on me, but I really do love it for what it is. This smells like the woman in your life that you love most. Somebody who cares for you unconditionally, who always has kind words for you and a motherly presence. This is such a comforting scent, and I think it's also very much signature scent worthy for the right person. Definitely a strong addition to my collection, I am thankful that I was able to find a bottle of this particular batch. I have heard that the reformulation is not quite as nice.

Edit: after wearing this for two days? I'm obsessed. Its perfect. I think I've found my new signature. :)

Gyps

It has a lovely smell when it’s first sprayed but it doesn’t last on my skin which is really unfortunate. I found the EDT used to last longer on me and it also smells completely different.

Safistus

Sooo, I maybe am the only guy who's writing a review on this perfume but people, this is a stunning fragrance, marvelous !
I find an almost finished bottle in my sister wardrobe and I had to try it.
Honestly, I didn't smell something so good for a long time, so rich, so seductive and even with that Vanilla note(which I really don't like in perfumes), this is amazingly good and I would like to wear it too, especially now, in the cold season.

I keep smelling it and it take me away like a vertigo (if you are familiar with Hitchcock, you know what I mean)

Now I have to find a bottle of this because the smell that hugs me.

Masterpiece !

LolitaCD

This is stunningly seductive. If I was to pair this fragrance with a certain character it would be Miss Bellum from Power puff girls. Little geeky I know but I’m not wrong lol

leenee

My grandmother got me this perfume when I was a child and my mom kept it for me until now, I just sprayed it on and I realized that I’ve known this scent all of my childhood and my life, it reminds me of my mom and my grandma and holds so much nostalgia
the scent itself is very powdery, and I get the amber and vanilla the most
it’s very feminine and VERY classy, like I can only imagine wearing this for a special occasion, but I really love it

xXx CHAR xXx

I dug this out tonight and I can’t believe I’ve had this for about 25 years AND the half bottle that remains has only gotten richer and deeper with age… the rum is intoxicating… 💞

This is one of my absolute favorite fragrances of all time. I prefer the EDT version because I am addicted to the powdery, ultra-feminine florals in the scent--and I will probably die if it is ever discontinued or changed. The EDP slides in right behind the EDT in my best ever lineup, but I must say that the two scents seem completely unrelated at first spray. Maybe to the more sophisticated nose there are similar notes, but they're so fleeting to me, mostly present in the dry down. Where the EDT is powdery and creamy throughout, almost cartoonish in nature, the EDP opens fresh & fruity with a dusting of powder, musks and warm notes, including a skin-musk note that is one of those minute yet intentional details that take the scent to another level. The smell is undeniably that of a woman. I smells like sex with a perfect woman you only thought about having in your wildest dreams. Funny thing is, the EDT used to largely turn me off as a teen in the 90's when it was released-- but I still bought it and wore it whenever I wanted attention. It's now part of who I am - I've run through countless bottles over the years, and I simply cannot imagine my wardrobe without it. The EDP I've worn less frequently, but still a staple that is worn far more than most of the other frags I own.

These days I don't smell Classique (edp or edt) on anyone. Like I can't remember the last time I smelled it on another person. Young people don't seem into it and it hasn't reached that trendy throwback stage that all the heavy amber/orientals went through recently. Selfishly, I hope Classique stays off-trend. I feel privileged to have held the esteemed position of legit and verifiable over-sprayer for at least the past 2.5 decades. My grandchildren will associate it with "old lady" smell at some point, because I will certainly be wearing it well into my golden years.

Reading through some of the most recent Fragrantica reviews, I am surprised and somewhat devastated, if I'm honest, to learn that the lace corset version is no longer in production?!?!?!?!?!? I'm about a quarter of the way through my latest bottle, which I just over-sprayed from head to toe prior to writing this review, and I don't want to even think of picking up the red/pink version and not smelling the same thing. I hope the visual/aesthetic differences between the two are not indicative of the differences, because they do appear quite distinct. Reformulations frighten me and they are evil. It's like going to the museum and seeing that your favorite work of art has been reworked.
It's the same, but some of your favorite bits have been changed! Some people may like it better, but it's so emotionally taxing. So as a result, this is now on a list of bottles to overstock, thanks to my fragrantica friends.

Mysticmiah1970

So happy I managed to track down this version with the lace corset it’s warm boozy and addictive and a total gem of a fragrance.I’ve always had various versions of classique whether it be the edt edp or the eau fraiche this by far is my classique of choice since the 90s so happy to have back in my collection I love it so much.

spiceysauce5

First impression: Much more interesting than the edt, less floral and more balanced. The booziness is great. Will update with more thoughts

chimidoro

So feminine, womanly.
A thick, syrupy, rich, enveloping cloud.
Leaves a scent trail worth a million blushing purple blossoms.
Boozy, heady, rounded, sweet & warm.
My signature scent forever.
I cherish every drop.

Jmalone84

So sad to say that the lace bottle shown above with the notes of rum and rose tincture has in fact been discontinued. If you refer to the JPG website classique EDP now comes in a bottle with a red bodice. States the notes are Sicilian mandarin, orchid and vanilla. The scent itself has somewhat less longevity than I remember and has citrus and quite a bit of sweetness. Reminiscent of the original but sadly not quite as good.

This is the description of the perfume from the website I ordered it from but I’m not sure if it’s accurate:
Fragrance Notes: The seductive scent opens with the traditional Classique top notes of orange blossom, rose and star anise, however the addition of a rum note contributes depth to the bouquet. The floral heart of carnation, orchid, iris and ylang ylang remains unchanged, while a weightier base note of vanilla absolute enhances the scent's creamy character.

Update: so I have worn this for a few days and the orange blossom definitely ruins it. No longer a beautiful cloud of vanilla and rose. If you can, get your hands on a lace bottle

Maria19

My favourite since early 2000. It's truly a Classique perfume. It's soft and very feminine. Perfect scent. The scent of the notes are in a perfect harmony. Vanilla stands out but not offensively. I also like the EDT version. Both will always be my favorites.

Sexbox1814

Ok so this is basically just sex in a bottle..so if your looking to get your 🕳 this is the one…powdery, musky, sweet, soft, sharp, floral, oriental, it’s a headtwister…men love it and women love it..I think of a high class escort when I wear this with a fur coat and only the best lingerie…stay away from the EDT though it’s a pure headache in a bottle..

Soccergreat88

A soft, powdery perfume with a slight rum note. The rum isn't detectable unless you know it's there, then you can sort of pick it out so don't be fooled by that. It's a soft, floral, powdery scent but don't be fooled, it is VERY strong and projecting just as all JPG perfumes are. Nice if you like these types of perfumes.

HibiscusLola

This perfume will be always in my heart.
I am so sad it has been reformulated.
This version of Classique edp, with the lace corset bottle, is a beautiful floral creamy-buttery vanilla, it gives me a felling which is both moving and comforting.
I used to wear it as my signature. At the time, I couldn’t afford a large bottle, so I was always purchasing a 20ml miniature and using it sparingly.
A few spritzes lasted a long time on skin and clothes.
Men loved it, my friends loved it, it was perfect. Not so many people used to know this fragrance, it was my little secret.
Unfortunately, in 2017 it came out with another bottle which is not as much lovely as this, and most importantly, the fragrance is very faint.
I purchased the new bottle hoping it was just a changing of the packaging, but the fragrance was like a bad dupe of the original.
Anyways I finished the bottle because there is no other scent which reminds me of my beloved jpg Classique edp. When I bought a new bottle of the reformulation, it was even worse! It doesn’t last more then 15 minutes.
If you find one of the remaining lace bottles on the market, just get it! You won’t regret. This is so beautiful, especially during fall and winter time.
I am purchasing all the bottles I can find of this edition. I will still buy the 2017 version, I appreciate it isn’t totally discontinued.. if you overspray like if it’s a body mist, it works a little.

AMMILLER

This is so fantastic. On me it opens with a sort of powdery smell that reminds me of some cosmetic rice powder I used to have but very quickly it goes into a warm, rich vanilla. I can smell the rum, some rose and orchid, and a warm amber base. Surprisingly though, this doesn't read as "sweet" to me, more sorta sweet? It's hard to describe. This stuff is *strong* and long lasting. I absolutely love it but I find I only want to wear it occasionally because it's so strong. I actually like to spray it on before bed because then my bed smells good and the scent has calmed down a bit by morning (yes I can still smell it on me in the morning!)

This isn't a 'young' or 'old scent'- what a lazy way to review scents btw- but it is warm, sensual, vanilla, lightly powdery, and rich.

RavenValkyrie

Glamour in a bottle!
This is such an intoxicating EDP.... the boozy rum and the powdery vanilla is really mesmerizing and long-lasting.
It has a beautiful old-hollywood/Paris-Moulin Rouge vibe to it, and of course, the glam- burlesque image has increased tremendously due to Queen Dita Von Teesee stating this as one of her favourites (!)

I used to wear this a lot in my early twenties and I insist on reclaiming it again.
However, when smelling the first, rather harsh, initial spray, I'm right back to a very destructive time of my life in a toxic relationship with a sociopathic man - a time filled with pain and hate with a vengeance. ..Logically, I'm aware that smells are attached to our emotional processing centers in the brain and that smells can be an acute trigger of trauma..I am aware that scents are never just scents. They are attached to memories.
And, thus, that bad memories can destroy a scent .
Logically, I am also aware, that scents can only be ruined for you until you reclaim them.

So, I am currently in the process of reclaiming the potent, beautiful Diva that JPG Classique truly is - Because she is really worth it.
She deserves to be worn with my silk, my satin, my corsets, my high heels, my faux fur, my real fur, my gold-coloured plastic coats, my fabulous pencil dresses and that fabulous, slightly overstated makeup - on point.
JPG Classique is so warm and seductive. So Cozy and feminine.
So glitz and so glam - and I love it. (!)

...
I'll erase bad memories of the past and create new fabulous memories with the ever-intriguing JPG Classique.

RoseBalm

God I love this perfume. It’s so sexy. Retro but not at all dated - rich and boozy, sexy and warm. A new favourite

jigglypop

Oh my GOD! Where have you been all my life? I had this for a couple of years and never really tried it until last week, and wow - the drydown is heavenly. Starts of a little soapy, but it wears of in 15-20 minutes. Longevity is great on clothes, still smelled it the next day. Sexy and comforting at the same time, it reminds me of a perfume but I can’t seem to catch which.

terilove1

I wish this perfume lasted longer and projected more. It smells like a warm sexy hug

SailorV

Despite the listed notes being so different, Classique EDP smells very similar to the EDT, which came first. The EDP is not a louder, more intense version, in my opinion it's actually a little milder and fresher, and not quite as complex as the EDT. The main difference is that the orange blossom and spicy notes are missing. Overall I find it more modern and easier to wear, but just as good.

This scent opens up fizzy and sweet like a cream soda. The rum note is not very boozy, it's rather giving the fragrance a warm, tropical touch. I think I also smell a little mandarin here, but maybe that's coming from the rum. The rose is lovely and dewy, adding freshness to the mountains of vanilla and powder that are the main stars of the fragrance. Like the EDT, this unites soapy clean notes with a sensual, skin-like amber accord. It's definitely a sexy boudoir scent.

I noticed that this smells better, more nuanced and delicate on my skin than on fabric, so I would advise to spray this on before getting dressed, preferably on places where it won't rub off on clothes.

This review is for the old lace bottle, I'm not sure if there are differences to the newer bottle with the red corset.

CunningStunt

The bottle itself is adorable and reminds me of Dita Von Teese since she has that perfect curvy petite body, wearing her tailored lingerie and splashing around in that big martini glass. Walking at events with Marilyn Manson back in the day, looking like a living porcelain doll, like a million bucks. This is a modern pinup girl scent for sure.

Nobody I have encountered dislikes Classique EDP, it's just perfectly balanced and it def gives me a confidence boost. It's what I wear when I need a less polarizing scent to go with dressing up, not too sweet or spicy.

It has good throw, a bit more than arms length and it leaves a trail behind you. Lasts a good 6 hours before becoming a skin scent, but my skin eats perfumes despite being oily.

It's very 90s but that's part of the reason I adore it so much, nostalgia. I haven't smelled it on anyone else where I live though, so it's not too common or played out. More people wore Classique back then 20+ years ago. Still, I don't percieve it as dated at all. It still smells fresh nearly 30 years later.

Brings out your inner burlesque dancer.
Men adore this one, I get more compliments on this than the modern sugary Poison Girl which I also love. They layer surprisingly well 😉

Naomie

This is such a statement perfume. Ever green for any classy women, first it was quite citrusy on my skin, it definitely needs time to blossom, then became an amazing very unusual scent, nothing like it, stands out a lot, it’s like Libre, Virgin Island Water or Chanel no.5 you know straight away what it is, cause of its characteristic scent! Very loveable perfume, most men adores it and so am I. I don’t think there is anybody on this planet who would dislike this one!

Scent: 9/10

billy_nexia

Sensual, boozy, creamy fragrance. Suitable for intimate encounters.
Overall: 8.5/10

DietCokeHead

My absolute favorite and the one that started my love of perfume. This smells like the dressing room of a pin up, roses, her powder, her boozy drink of choice, nail polish and lipstick. Really sexy, and yes, a classic.

Elsie's_scents

I guess this is my first true and forever love of fragrances. I like all JPG Classique versions, but this one is the real classic. It is kind of unique: there are perfumes and then there is JPG Classique eau de parfum. Orange tree flower, amber, rose, vanilla, soap, powder. I had this in the 90’s and I wish I could get a new one in this exact bottle design.

BoutiqueLove

This smells like Chanel No. 5 except its fresher, powdier, sexier and sweeter

jumblecupcake

I love this, smells feminine and sweet. It reminds me of L'instant and Cinema - They are different, but under the same category.

e.nikander

Blind bought it (guess I was tempted by the pretty bottle ;). When I smelled it my first reaction was: "Nice, but I have smelled this many times before". This or something similar must be very popular and probably with good reason. Projection is excellent and most people will like this I'm sure. It is sweet vanilla and flowers, with some powder. It does have something sharp in there to.

Very feminine and I would think it suits most young/youngish women. For me the problem is simply that this is a bit to common in my area and maybe a tad to sweet/girly for me personally.

All in all a very nice scent that should please everyone around you and work well both day and night.

JSpines

When I first sprayed this on I thought "uh oh." The first blast is a bit overpowering but I find it dissipates really quickly. Ahhhh, instant relief! It turns into something really special and beautiful. I can see why so many people have this and love it so much. They sure named this perfume well. It certainly smells like a "classic." It's smooth, warm and rich. Smells "high class" to me. I can smell the vanilla, rose and amber on my skin. It seems to stay linear throughout which I don't mind at all as I love the smell! I love the Eau de Parfum version but I don't like the Eau de Toilette version at all. That one smells sharp and stinky to me. This one is so much nicer. I don't find it too strong or overpowering at all. Simply gorgeous!

Titibug

I have been thinking about this scent for a few days now, trying to work out how I feel about it. When I first smelled it in 2016, I had a big shock like being hit over the head with piece of plastic while inhaling cheap dark spirits. At the time, I felt I should get as far away from this horrible bottle of artificial stink as possible, without a moment's delay. Instead, knowing that it can take my nose a while to work out what's going on in a perfume (as interpreted within the dense grey lump that is my brain), I put it back on my shelf and left it alone for a long time.

Having worn it for several days in a row, it is like this for me:

It starts off as an almost aggressive mix of orchid and booze, with some dryness like sawdust and an echo of cigarettes, and I experience a momentary regret: Gah! What was I thinking? Why on earth did I spray that stuff again?

Panic over, the rose and vanilla slowly start to expand and after a little while they bloom into a warm, powdery floral scent that intoxicates in the best way, without the help of booze'n'fags. The powder isn't dry, it smells almost as pretty as a baby's head. The rose petals are soft and the vanilla is creamy and subtle. Whatever the orchid is doing, is good.

Then the whole fragrance goes to rest serenely on a bed of amber, exuding a breath of sandalwood and gentle whispers of other smoothly blended soft spices and lightly fragranced woods.

Throughout the middle and end phases I am constantly sniffing my wrists in the most undignified way. It lasts for ages and I love it. The next morning I remember how much I loved it the previous day and have the echo of it on my wrists as proof of how beautiful it was.

I grab it and give myself a good couple of sprays, and so it starts all over again. Gah! What was I thinking? But now it's different: I know that, very soon, I'll be infatuated once more.

Dem0nic.Peach

I personally didn’t like it that much, warm smells tend to give me a headache. My mum however used to always love it so it will always remind me of her. Bottle is very pretty though!

elledeelee

Classique is a classic indeed. She starts out really sharp and rough for the first ten minutes, then becomes a touch spicy. Finally she mellows and sweetens up. In that respect, she certainly embodies my own personality!! Overall she is a very lovely, but certainly mature scent. I began to enjoy her more and more, so I will consider a purchase, but not until I hit my mid forties.

kakama

Beautiful, warm, sweet and sensual. However, too much dirty amber. Amber spoils the smell and makes it fit an old lady. If it wasn't for amber, it would be a perfect fragrance.

anilinam

HERE´S THE THING ABOUT JPG CLASSIQUE

I´ve always had a thing for this perfume. This attraction started upon its release and has proven itself through several of its many reformulations. The idea of vanilla with rum, rose and tonka still makes my mouth watter... So what is my problem with this scent?

Powder. Now there is powder, and then there´s powder. This is not lipstick iris powder, or talcum. This is what I associate with old, dry, cheap soap shavings, and it is killing my perfume!

i don´t know how this happened... Was it after many reformulations? Could I have neglected this cheap soap before? I really don´t know.

For the moment, I´ve found I can drown this dry soap when I mix JPG Classique with Classique Essence. Of course that´s no surprise, as everyone knows Classique Essence is on steroids and on a sugar high. But worn this way, Classique adds its beautiful tonka, rum, rose and makes the compossition more rounded.

It saddens me to report my long coveted Classique and I had a serious conversation today, and it has signed a DNR document. This will be my last bottle.

About 10 years ago, when I was 21, I smelt this fragrance on a few various women who happen to sweep past me.. once I caught wiff of their scent, I HAD to ask what they were wearing.

This perfume has a seductive mixture of musk and sweet, and I couldn't wait to transform into a mysterious alluring woman myself via this scent.

10 years later... not a fan anymore. It smells too powdery and old woman-y. It doesn't stir up the mystique and intrigue I felt before. Its still nice... I wouldn't be averse to putting some on if it was all I could find in my perfume drawer... however sadly, its fallen off my faves shelf!

LisaWB

This has always been my 'going out' perfume and I've worn it for 20 years. But it doesn't seem to last anywhere near as long as it used to. If I wore it in the day it would last the entire day, now I'm luck to get 3-4 hours out of it. The EDP is no better. I'm gutted as I miss the longevity, I hate having to re-apply.

But it IS a beautiful perfume. It's the only 'floral' scent I really like, it's like bubblegum and white lilies! It's a scent that I think a girl/woman of any age can pull off.

Brunette_Bombshell

This fragrance is like an aphrodisiac. It is an erotic, powerful, romantic perfume, like an explosion of glamor and sensuality.
On my skin is warm, sweet but at the same time powdery, clean, like a detergent kind of scent, I know, weird but so different and authentic. My signiature and I'm only 23.
Also, I am pretty sure that this bottle design was discontinued but not the scent, the eau de parfum is still aviable, they reformulated it and the red corset bottle is the new edp version and not just a limited edition.

rissy200

Today I tested my mom’s vintage bottle and I immediately got flashbacks of the 90’s but unfortunately not of the fashionable kind. All I could smell was a stuffy hand lotion scent of a time past. An old school powdery, soapy smell.

Scenatrix

I somehow fell into the JPG rabbithole with one fragrance, and continued with this one. Normally I don't like powdery fragrance, but this somehow just WORKS. Not a shocker that people who like this also like the Kenzo Jungle L'Éléphant perfume, as they both have quite a kick and are foodie smells.

Like other commenters, I found a difference between the EDT and EDP in this fragrance: this one is so much deeper and sexier than the EDT, which is still nice but more floral on me.

sria

In my last review, I said it was too agreeable for me - i needed more challenge and ones that exuded more power.

But wow i dont know what it is, this happens to be everything I want these days. its just the right balance of sweetness, femininity, warmth, maturity, elegance, comfort and sex appeal. Just wow. I usually prefer Addict, Allure and Tresor - all of these have a bit more challenge to them, but this one has a coziness that says I have got your back on difficult days. It is so incredibly comforting. I love it. I am getting another bottle for sure.

Oh and it garners tonnes of compliments.

Also it reminds me of Manifesto but with more rounded curves, like the brash younger girl (Manifesto) has become a calm, grounded, full grown lady (JPG) oozing sex appeal that is oh so elegant you know a classy woman who is effortlessly sensual. I don't see how it could ever smell dated or out of fashion. It simply represents raw womanhood that simply holds its own.

its signature material.

classique edp
hot humid summer evening test
splash bottle with a decent dribble to the wrist
(side by side with edt same name)

initial thoughts:
powdery floral, creameier and warmer (than edt) gentle subtle wood, cozy, not wet florals, clear florals (not a freshie though)

general:
more intersting than edt... in middle, these are different scents however, stronger, sweet (not gourmand/candy) powdery sweet, elss powdery floral than the edt.

end thoughts:
gentle sweet powder floral
i think safe, its a warm cozy type, no synthetic weirdness to my nose, this is more on the gentle sweet side.

ive had about 4 hours with this on now, its still gently there (both the edt and edp seem soft on me but very much present - you can notice them, and theyll keep on going too, non offensive, versatile. perfumey rather than realistic

The reviewer before me thinks this may be discontinued, and I've been wondering the same thing. It's very hard to find now. I just bought a 100ml today because I can't imagine life without the sexiest fragrance ever made. Men go CRAZY for this fragrance. In the store I tested this on one wrist and Coco Chanel EDP on the other, and they are fairly similar, but I ended up grabbing a bottle of Classique. I've worn it in the past, and it still holds up against modern fragrances. It so soft and creamy and heady and delicious. A whisper of floral, a sprinkling of gourmand, a splash of vintage, a hint of booze, and oodles of SEX. This fragrance is best for evenings and the cooler months, but it is still magic in summer and during the day if applied lightly. It's a masterpiece. I also own 100ml of the eau de toilette, which has similar notes but is not as softly blended. I love both.

EDIT: I have been informed by a reliable retail assistant at a department store that this has not been discontinued but is being repackaged. Fingers crossed that this is accurate.

Blushpinkpeonies

I believe this gorgeous scent is discontinued, at least in the U.S. Can't find it in any stores, and even getting scarce online. If you find a legit bottle, stock up! It's elegant and has a bit of a vintage feel.

mira3343

someone does not use it ... I'm interested. send me a message.

NikaLinder

Very noticeable by men. Very feminine. Roses!!! Need to wear a dress, high hills, and make up. Beautiful bottle but missing a cap. Well... its better than the clown head added in Nicki Minaj perfumes.

Blushpinkpeonies

My story with this perfume goes back to 2007. That's when I bought my first bottle of this luscious rum + rose perfume. It was long-lasting and rich and intoxicating! A bombshell. I wore it a few times, but the pretty bottle mostly sat on my dresser for several years. It was just a little too strong for me back then, so finally I (stupidly) swapped it away for a bottle of Jessica Simpson Fancy. Well, I regretted that swap for a long time. Bought and owned many other perfumes over the years. But missing Classique for so long, I finally caved and bought a 3.3 oz tester of a newish bottle from 2016. I opened it up and sprayed it with great anticipation, but it wasn't the same. It was soft and diluted. The notes were all there, but watered down. Still a nice, pretty scent though. If I hadn't known about my 2007 bottle, I would have thought it was perfectly fine. Maybe I was just remembering it wrong? After all, it had been years since I last smelled it.

Well, determined to try once again, I searched and searched on eBay. Finally I managed to track down a bottle from 2011, still sealed in its can! How did I get that lucky? I ordered it, it arrived four days later, I nervously opened it, sprayed twice, and it was GLORIOUS! Just like I remembered, rich, thick, heady rose + rum. I love it. So happy to have it back in my collection! If you can hunt down an older bottle on eBay, it's definitely worth getting.

nightcutter

In the UK the bottles have changed. The bodice is no longer lacey. Instead it is a deep pink version of the Edt bottle.

Shwets

I have to say to support Meow, that to my nose the edp is so much weaker (after reformulations) than what it used to be that i thought i was smelling the edt! This was a couple of years back and i mention this in another review. Though the edt is orangey.

Just checked and the review was in 2014 not two years ago!!

meow78

It was the lace bustier bottle and listed as edp on their website. Maybe it’s been reformulated with ginger (since that’s trendy right now)?

Beata1723

meow78,

are you sure you are not describing the Eau de Toilette version here? Or maybe the new flanker for this summer? That sounds a lot like the EDT and/or summer version of Classique. At least I'm not aware of Classique EDP's notes changing lately - I hope I'm not wrong, I love the EDP just as it is!

meow78

The notes listed here do not match the current notes from Ulta
top: ginger; heart: orange blossom; base: vanilla

I skin-tested this at Ulta, and it’s very spicy on me. I like the ginger in Tender Romance. JPG is more in the anise/cloves direction of spicy, overwhelming the orange/vanilla. There was no powdery sweet floral on me. (I’ve always wanted to love this, but my skin amplifies the wrong parts.)

daenrf

This is lovely. It's rose and powder and sweetness that must be the tonka/vanilla.
It's not sticky or cloying, largely depending on your tolerance for sweet scents, of course. It might be too sweet for some.
This is not dry powder, but it's not what I would personally call a sweet perfume. To me sweet fragrances include things like Fracas, Shalimar, and Tocade from the oldies and things like Black Opium and just about everything else from the new guard. I also find Gaultier's flankers for this, the Classique Essence de Parfum and the Classique Intense both cloying, while this is not.

The overall effect I get from Classique EdP is a sweet rose/orchid body powder, you know the kind that's applied with a big luxurious powder-puff?
What I'm saying is: this is most definitely powdery, so if you don't like powdery scents, steer clear.

The sillage is interesting. The perfume, smelled up close, is staying pretty close to the skin and doesn't assault the nose even if you inhale it from that distance, but you can clearly detect the scent further away, like it's a cloud of transparent powdery goodness floating around in an ethereal way, with no clear source for the scent.

Like always, please don't blind buy unless feeling like a gamble. I can see this being a complete hit or miss.

FrkFors

The opening of this reminded me of Coca Cola for some reason, haha! Maybe I get the association because of the rum? And then I got all narcissus, vanilla, amber and a little bit of the rose with a kind of fizzy and sweet undertone. Very warm and cozy! It smells mature but not old. It smells wise, if that makes sense?

And for some reason, this is the "scenery" I see in my mind. I imagine the season to be autumn. And I also imagine that a sweet, down to earth young woman in a large cozy sweater, leather boots, hair up in a bun and glasses, reading a book wearing this. She looks effortlessly cool, elegant and very feminine. The book could be about philosophy or it could be an erotic novel... She's not the kind of person who talks the most, but her mind is never quiet. She prefers to observe people over talking about superficial stuff. She's mysterious, sensual, very caring and has a lot of empathy for everyone and everything. This perfume would fit perfectly if she was going on a date too, all she would do was to let her hair down and put on some red lipstick!

I have very little of this perfume left and I'm for sure going to miss it when I run out. I am trying to save the rest for special occasions or when I just really crave it. And I would buy it again sometime!

sria

it is beautiful, gorgeous but not overbearing. worn by a woman who looks very well put together, very attractive and she is also sweet. I would love to wear on days when I want something beautiful, sweet, somewhat cozy, and not feeling particularly edgy. I would wear it when I want a safe option.

But JPG is a bit too agreeable for my taste, too nice. I am into something that is darker, cozier but also more challenging. Something that Dior Addict has - she winks at you with a message that says "I know you want me desperately but you gotta work real hard to get me"

MrsTefee

Trying a sample spray of this and I actually quite like this! Warm, powdery rose and vanilla. I think I will keep this one in mind because I wouldnt mind having this one in my collection. I love powdery roses!

raiza1990

On me, the opening is a really strong white floral smell. Some hours later, it turns into a soft, sweet powder. I get no rum and i miss it. Anyway, this is a nice fragrance. I liked this one more than the original (with the nude corset). It is more sensual. It has the same vibe as the original, but this one is more glamorous.

Cassiano

Sit down for there comes history! Classique was not born with this name. It was called Jean Paul Gaultier Eau de Parfum when it was released, in 1993. Its exuberant fragrance mixed notes of rose, pear, star anise, orange blossom, plum, ginger, orchid, ylang-ylang, musk, vanilla, amber and some other notes.

With the passage of time and market changes, in addition to different versions (flankers) since its launch, new strategies have been defined and, in 2007, the fragrances have gained their own identities. The name Classique had already been adopted and this EDP version was released, bringing the lace corset on the bottle. The perfumer remained the same: Jacques Cavallier, creator of dozens of fragrances of worldwide success.

The original version came as Classique Eau de Toilette, while this version (in Eau de Parfum concentration) gained a different composition. Classique Eau de Parfum was built on three main ingredients: rose, orchid and vanilla, respectively, head, heart and base. However, there is a touch of essence of rum at start, which brings greater impact. The heart of the fragrance features a floral touch of daffodils and the base, in turn, gains depth with absolute of sandalwood and amber.

On the skin, the first information to be clear is: Classique EDP is not a perfume for sweet girls of innocent style. Here, the focus is on sexy women who like to cause an impact wherever they go. The composition has changed, but the concept remains the same. And the result is a floriental of great presence, in which the red roses arrive wet by an alcoholic drink and get a powdery touch, thanks to the orchid. In fact, this is the great star of the fragrance, because it interconnects the top and the base as if they were a unique, homogeneous structure. Then, the base appears creamier, with a strong presence of amber and sandalwood, which confer sensuality in the right measure, in the limit between the sexy and the elegant. And the vanilla is there, nothing sugary, nothing sickening, just cozy.

I can feel great connection between the two versions, but at the same time, I identify their differences. I particularly prefer the extravagant style of the Eau de Toilette fragrance, with its notes of ylang-ylang, tuberose and that stupendous projection that established the success of the brand. This one is more restrained, although it has greater concentration. And the impression I have is that they used flankers released in the meantime (L'Eau d'Ete and Corset Couture) as a source of inspiration for this composition.

Still, Classique Eau de Parfum is a real invitation to a hot and sensual night, those that do not end with a good morning kiss and romantic breakfast, but with a provocative message left in the bathroom mirror, written with lipstick and with taste of wanting more.
And just between us, this is totally Jean Paul Gaultier's style, don’t you agree?

CB23

Can't believe this is the first time I'm trying this and it's been released since the 90's, this is so good! I don't think it's overpowering at all, just don't spray it 100 times.

3-5 sprays would be perfect, this is the kind of fragrance I'd love to smell on a woman as she walks past me on a cold rainy day, I'd definitely turn around to see who was wearing it. I feel like it's best suited for a sophisticated woman between the age of 30-50, someone in a position of power possibly.

monbella23

Really can't decide if I like this. At the beginning it's almost pure rum. Once it's settled it's a very faint vanilla. It also doesn't project very much and is sometimes hard to smell on myself even just 20 minutes after I've sprayed. That's not to say it's a bad perfume though, it is a safe one.

chimidoro

A reformulation (tested current release in Boots uk) has killed this, one of my all time favorite scents. This now has a blast of tacky, grotesquely common/cheap "alcohol" followed by a weak interpretation of the original, with zero depth, which then dries down to a generic vanilla (slightly gourmand/fruity) goop.

Crap. Utter crap.
Heartbroken.

malindajoquinn

This scent is exactly what I've been searching for. It's precisely what I wanted Lolita Lempicka to be - where Lolita is a cold, dry powder, Classique is warm and creamy. No sharp edges here, only softness.
Just a truly decadent creamy powder fragrance. Sensual, seductive and completely enveloping. It's a boudoir, silk dressing gown, dusting of powder at the vanity type of scent.
I'll never be able to go without it again.

Ni_juu_nana

It took me five years to learn myself how to wear this fragrance. In the beginning it was a way to sweet for me, somehow too loud, too heavily. But year after year, season after season I started to find different shades of feminine in this bottle, it started to tell me stories about women that trust in their senses and are not afraid to be sensual every day. I adore it and wanna buy it again and again.

Bellis

It's lovely, but way too sweet and heavy for my tastes. I find it quite overpowering, like something my mother would wear in the 1980s. Other people like it on me a lot more than I enjoy wearing it. The bottle is gorgeous and I'll keep it on my dresser, looking beautiful, but whether or not I'll actually wear the perfume is another matter. If I do, it's a scent for night time, rather than day, and despite the florals is too heavy for the heat of summer. If long-lasting heavy florals with seriously hefty sillage is your thing, try this one. It's many things, but subtle is not one of them.

ssaminn

Jasmine, Rum, and amber are the main notes of the opening to my nose. I get the Rose in the background after a few minutes. I also do get a bit of that weirdly smooth and sweet chemical that's supposed to be the note of orchid but the main smell to my nose is Jasmine. I do have a Jasmine bush outside my window and I know what it smells like! I think the combination of the notes that they are listing makes a fake Jasmine opening upon the first spray which gradually unfolds itself to vanilla and orchid along with tonka and amber and rose. there is also a nice sourness in the background which gives it a bit of freshness and balances the scent; as it is already a very warm fragrance. It's like a very subtle bergamot deep in the blend.

It does have moderate sillage and about 3-4 hours of longevity on my skin. I like it but it's farrrr from a love for me. I would personally rate this fragrance 5.5/10.

Beadvised

Lovely sweet gentle vanilla and florals what more can I say but this fragrance is beautiful.

JackieM

I am not sure which version to review here. I have the one like the bottle pictured (warm, vanilla, nice and round), and recently got an older bottle that has the black rose design on it (powdery, VERY rose, but also radiant and somewhat warm). There is a listing for that bottle but it says limited 2003. What did this bottle look like in the 1990s? Was it the black rose bottle? Because that version feels far more "retro" and forward where as this one is almost gourmand in comparison.

caitrun

Brash and sweet indeed! This is a sexy, powerful, and intriguing fragrance. Not for the faint of heart. Powdery, bordering on cloying. I LOVE it, I love that it is a bit of a challenge to wear and I love wearing it in summer when the heat of the sun makes it even more challenging! Rose, powder, and vanilla dominate. It is boozy. Somehow incredibly rich and deep but airy. Did I mention sexy?

Missmaassen

Jean Paul Gaultier's Classique EDP has been adopted into my perfume collection today after being sent by lovely fragrantica member Scarbo who is such a sweetheart! she didn't only send this, but also Bvalgari's Rose Essentielle and a few other samples.

I do not know why i have never sampled this fragrance or bought it. It ticks all the boxes of what i look for in a sensual, and sexy fragrance. Absolutely divine, this fragrance is ultra feminine! I love amber, vanilla, tonka bean and rose. Classique does this oh so perfectly. sweet vanilla, but not in your face candy like way, powdery but done just right. floral and rose linger in the background while being slightly balsamic. I see this fragrance easily becoming a love. I can easily imagine this being a sophisticated, and classy lady's go to. Notes are blended together perfectly. Upon initial spray all i get is vanilla, and tonka bean. After a few minutes all other notes slowly start creeping in. Perfect for date night, or a special event. x

P.S. If you love/ like Christian Dior's Hypnotic Poison, Jessica Simpson Fancy, YSL Cinema, Alien Essence Absolue, Chanel coco/ No 5, Guerlain Samsara etc i think you will definitely like this as they have the same sensual, sophisticated, sexy vibe :)

Lilmary310

This is the first perfume I ever owned, at 15 years old. Definitely not appropriate for a 15 year old. It was a gift and as such, had fond memories of it. I repurchased (blindly on ebay) after over 20 years and my how our preferences change cause oh my goodness, it was disgusting to me. There's no other word. Disgusting. Majorly headache inducing, overly powdery and a sickening sweet (this coming from a gourmand lover). I had my coworkers smell it and they nearly gagged. That was confirmation. Trying to sell my brand new bottle on ebay. Never again.

Tiffany_Fazon

This scent opens up warm and a little spicy from the rum and tincture of rose, this is balanced by the vanilla and tonka bean that adds sweetness without being gourmand. The florals round out this scent into a perfect everyday feminine floriental fragrance. This is a long-lasting everyday perfume that I always find myself reaching for. This perfume is a perfect blend of warmth, richness, spiciness and sweetness!

savageinstrangeland

Gorgeous!!! I tested this today and I HAVE to have a bottle. Seriously. I have myself on a restricted buying deal right now. 3 bottles a month (which I've already gone over lol) So I have to wait. But this is so good that I will be waiting at the store door before they open on the 1st of next month. lol It's a powdery, boozy, uber sexy perfume. Difficult to pick out individual notes as it is so well blended. Classique indeed! This is a classic for sure! I remember smelling it years ago and hating it (I was like 15 and apparently a idiot) But this is a absolute must have for me now. MUST. HAVE.

I'll come back and edit with a proper review after a few weeks of wear. For now though I advise all perfume lovers to test this beauty.

douxetepice

Classique EDP is Gauthier's memories of his grandmother and the theater successfully personified into a fragrance: loose powder, warmed theatrical makeup, a pinch of nail polish remover, with some flowers and vanilla thrown into the mix. Doesn't sound too pleasant, does it? But when smelling Classique, you'd be surprised how enjoyable JPG's vision actually is to wear.

Although I can discern these different elements, the entire effect of the fragrance is somewhat of an anticlimax, but one which I find I absolutely love. Powder, rose, and rum coupled with vanilla, tonka and sandalwood, work together to create such a rich and overtly feminine scent that wafts around without ever becoming cloying.

I do prefer this version to that of the EDT, as the latter morphed into something much sharper and harsh on my skin. I tend to think of the EDT as EDP's flirtatious and playful young sister. Unlike her younger sibling, EDP is a more sophisticated vixen, whose art of seduction is subtle and effortless. Both are wonderful, but for me, Classique EDP takes the cake; she is an untouchable classic.

Sweet Beans

This to me smells cozy, feminine, and just a little bit spicy. It is one of the few scents I can actually smell on myself throughout the day without sniffing my wrists, not in an obnoxious way, more like I'll get pleasant whiffs of it here and there. I feel like I have smelled this or something very similar in my childhood, but I can't for the life of me remember where.

Love it, and the bottle is pretty cute!

ell_bee

I'm a sucker for some pretty packaging, and JPG does that well. I love the kitschy woman in a can, and I was hoping I'd love this scent just as much. For me, it's just too powdery sweet. I can pick up on the rum accord if I think about it being there, but as it mixes with the synthetically sweet vanilla notes, it transforms from sexy, sweet vanilla booze into sexy, sweet expired hairspray?

I can appreciate this scent and that it belongs on a different woman than I am. She is vintage, she is slinky, she probably wears kitten heels to bed and teases her bangs. I'll admire her from afar and I'll keep her beloved JPG bottle around for it's aesthetic value.

BlondeMoments

Roses, rum and vanilla..I should have loved this..soo disappointing. It just isnt what it could have been.
the hairspray accord ruins it for me.

Perfumedsecrets

This has really stood the test of time, and there are a ton of flankers that have come after it. I think the edt might have come first, but this edp debuted in 1994 and is an improvement upon the scent and the bottle. It's a winning combination of rose, amber, rum, and vanilla. So many women have worn this at one time, and for many it's a signature. For me it reminds me of the early 90's, Gaultier runway shows, and watching fashion tv. It captures a time and a place so well, but it's also wearable in 2017.

Samamtha

This EDP is absolutely gorgeous! It makes me feel so happy, classy, and sexy every time I wear it. Interestingly though, I have a friend who said it made her smell like "a cheap, drunk hooker" lol! Not at all like that on me, so I guess it depends on the skin. I also tried its EDT version, and on me EDT smells a little more harsh and spicy. EDP is much more mellow and sensual for me. I LOVE THIS.

Coffee_Girl

I wanted to do a short addendum for the EDP version of Classique, as it is almost certainly different from the EDT and worth noting. The “lace” version is creamier and more vanilla focused, and is indeed concocted with a lighter hand than its predecessor. Opening notes consists of a boozy vanilla, orchids, and rum phases which then passes into a rosy amber-y dry down that is largely florals and sandalwood. This is a dreamier version of Classique; though it more resembles the modest cousin than a direct sibling, the EDP is still very lovely if not bit more mainstream. Personally I am not a huge fan of the lace version simply because it just isn’t the same beauty that I’ve fallen for, the lacking of spices and ginger has turned her into a common–but noble flower.

Classique eventually fades into a cloud of tonka bean, sandalwood, and boozy vanilla. Nothing extravagant, just powdery and feminine.

Despite constant trials with either one, the EDP is NOT stronger than the EDT in this case. I have had many outings with both relatives applied within the crevices of both arms, and have constantly monitored their progress throughout the day. It seems that the original not only outlasts its rival, but also dominates in terms of projection.

Frankly I enjoy Classique in all its variations, but the primary is certainly my favorite. This EDP is just too basic for me and frankly I can find better vanilla primaries than what it provides; the market is saturated with fragrances composing of the same features that the lace version tries to push. However I would suggest trying both as they often appeal to different senses.

Simply beautiful scent.Sweet but not nauseating. There's definitely vanilla which i love. It's on my favorites top-list.

faoumed

This scent smells really féminine and seductive I love it !!

FlowerDream

Feminity in a bottle.
So seductive.Rum,roses,orchids and vanilla.Warm and sensual.Timeless.
I love it!

turtle91

The EDT and EDP smell different but they do have the same powdery vibe. EDT has orange blossom smell while EDP is mostly powdery rose. I love both of them but I prefer the scent of the EDT which seems to change more throughout the day. However, in the presence of others, I feel more comfortable with the EDP as it is a safer scent,

UnearthlyApothecary

I swapped my bottle of the EDT for this version assuming I would love it more but I can't say I do. I think I may actually prefer the EDT as I love the orange blossom. I do like the strong boozy vanilla going on here. Don't get me wrong this is a beautiful scent and I don't regret the swap, I just know that at some point I will purchase another bottle of the EDT (thank goodness I have a mini splash bottle to keep me happy till then!)

fyrewoman

Much better than the edt. The edt i cannot wear. It reminded me of a strong industrial orange bathroom cleaner that always nauseated me. This edp is divine!

The rum note made me apprehensive because i do not like to predominantly smell of alcoholic beverages. Rum plays a well played supportive role to the vanilla, tonka and floral here. This is a whole different caliber to the edt.

I'm so glad i came across a sample right after i sold my JPG edt because i felt i was through with this house. I actually love this one.

MademoiselleMaya

This is one of the now rare, true parfums that every woman should try and hope it works for her.

It may be a bit off-putting when testing at Sephora, because it's strong and a bit soapy at first, but give it time to bloom on your skin and you'll experience something unique.
The above is especially for people used to the new scents that have poor structure and cheap ingredients and just try to grab the customer's attention at first sniff rather than smell divine when one actually wears the scent, and change with time and weather.

In my opinion Classique edp works best in Autumn and winter. It is warm, cozy, powdery and well blended.
A classy, sexy classic!

Oh, she smells good!

Rum, amber and rosy! I remember this was the first fragrance that had me falling in love with the rose scent. The bottle is so unique and elegant and i love the brown lace detail around the bottle. I treasure this scent very much, even when i get older this scent i will still be able to wear!

charf

This is my all time favorite going out scent. I LOVE this perfume and I always get compliments from mostly men but also women, when I wear this. I have around 30+ perfumes, but I always grab for this when going out at clubs or to a dinner with my boyfriend. It screams sensuality and intimacy.
This will always be in my collection.

ScarlettX

I like it less than the new flankers for this perfume. The top notes of this perfume, were just cloying and a bit too much for my taste. The base notes are fine, I can sense vanilla and orchid. Sweet, pleasant even.
But I can't like a fragrance based on base notes only, I have to like the whole things and in that case I really don't like the whole thing.

LenaT

One of my favorites. I love this scent it is unique. You cannot compare this to any other fragrance. It is so feminine and sexy. I usually wear this as my night out perfume.

meow_83

This stuff is a man magnet! I sell men's suits and shoes at a major department store. Yesterday I sampled Classique and had an older gentleman tell me I could drink for free in his bar any day, had a younger man tell me he was new in town and make a full introduction, and had a third tell me I have a beautiful smile. This morning my SO told me I smell good then texted me later to say he could still smell my perfume. I couldn't make this stuff up! This fragrance sold itself to me.

What's funny is that I don't fully understand the intoxicating appeal. My nose wasn't buried in my arm all day yesterday like it was the first times I wore Coco Mad, Coco Noir, and Hypnotic Poison. I remember smelling Classique years ago and thinking it smelled like smoke and hookers. Yesterday I thought it smelled lovely with the exception of the synthetic powder note that reminds me of carpet vacuum powder. (That note isn't unique to Classique and I wish I knew what it was.) I found the rose in Classique to be elegant, the powder feminine, and the creamy vanilla/amber base to be warm. I think the magic of this fragrance is that its aura is more captivating to the observer than to the wearer. I understood this when I stepped out of my car and for a moment smelled what my admirers must have smelled: A woman who is classically beautiful on the outside but who spends a fortune on lingerie that makes HER feel good, even when there is no man around to enjoy it. It doesn't get much sexier than that!

goldiloks

I had always considered this too gawdy for my tastes, compared to the EDT. But these days, the EDT is a shadow of its former self, and I am beginning to think the EDP is more beautiful, warm, inviting. Perhaps my tastes have just changed over the years, but I feel this one is under appreciated, at least by me :) Hoping to snag a FB one of these days. If anyone (UK) has one they would like to swap for a FB of the EDT, do PM! <3

gud

I got this fragrance a few months ago and found it rather hard to wear because it is so different from my other fragrances. I would say this is a cheerful warm rum and rose scent.
Very good to wear when you need to feel cheerful in difficult circumstances as I have had today, but this fragrance has helped me through the day beautifully. It's strong enough to catch a whiff throughout the day. I don't see pineapple as one of the notes so I say rum and rose but in actual fact what I smell could very well be pineapple.

mschnabel666

On a typical Michigan summer day, I decided to wear this to work. It is a heavy, powdery, mature/feminine scent, but I TOTALLY AGREE THAT WARMTH/Summer brings this beauty alive!

I smell amazingly delicious!! I'm warm, and sunny... I feel feminine and pretty! Yes, it's strong, but I don't find it cloying. It's perfect!

I'm in this boozy yummy vanilla cloud with beautiful florals! I find the EDT a little more "mature" (old lady powder.... haha) but this one is a KEEPER! It's a little spicy, still powdery... but it all meshes together beautifully!

GreenPistachio

Love the reviews by "Germany". Haven't gone through all the reviews, I'm sure there are others that I agree with. Initial spray opens with mostly rose, a bit of rum, for about 5 to 10 min. When everything settles I get rosey/floral, powdery, and then vanilla. It all blends so well, nothing dominates. Even though it's not a new release, it's new to me, so I don't feel "dated" when wearing this. There is something in this perfume that sparks a memory when I wear it. I can't quite place it.

Germany

This is now my signature , I wear this daily and seldom do I leave the house without Clasique . This powdery floriental is not only glamorous in my opinion but also has a destictive comfort warmth and sexiness. There is a certain amount of aldehyde in here , almost like some dewy pearl drops of rain on Jasmine and roses , or some pear desert with champagne , that sort of aldehyde that makes a perfume glamorous and sparkly .
Clasique has classic feel and smell of an old vanity with powder and nail polish remover , the smell of acetone and vanilla powder with orris and roses. Some may call it old , I call it classic , glamorous and utterly feminine. My husbands favourite.

This review also goes for the EDT , I get the same feel when I wear either. Although this one is much richer and has more boozy rum with more vanilla.
EDT is fresher with more of the aldehydes , nail polish acetone smell .

KTepes13

I agree with Titibug- This fragrance has no pizzazz to it. It's flat, uninspiring. It immediately reminded me of something sad, depressing and almost eerie. Like the lingering scent in a seedy motel.

Germany

Boozy rum vanilla with a honey like facet and accents of Rose and amber and powdery orchid . I love this classic beauty ! I have been wearing it a lot lately. My husband likes this one too , yes it's old school but in such a modern way . Timeless in my opinion.
It reminds me of my childhood as my big sister wore this , likely the EDT but it still brings back those memories of orange blossom and vanilla rose. Just really beautiful and feminine. I like the woody vanilla drydown so much.

Christie-Jack

Lovely!
Something I tend to wear in Autumn and Winter for whatever reason? Maybe I think it is too heavy for summer perhaps. Either way, I would always replace my finished bottles!
All round winner!

auroramaria

Beautiful combination of roses and exquisite vanilla this is truly a classic! So refined and feminine Classique manages to be elegant and casual at the same time also the EDP has a delicious rum note the EDT seems to have been reformulated but I hope they don't do the same with the EDP.Great sillage and longevity

DashaRayOfLight

This one is feminine, sexy and quite refined. A true classic in my opinion. Rose, vanilla, tonka bean and orchid are the most prominent notes.
I would say it's a classy yet comforting scent.

nitsa62

nothing like the edt which I adore, this one is more for rose lovers, I prefer the deep spices in edt, unfortunately this reminded me of those old rose talcs from the 70s, not for me

shadycat

Big, bold, boozy rum, vanilla sweet, very French spicy floriental! Expresses joie de vivre, unapologetic femininity, and a comforting sensuality all at once. Old-school in its composition, drydown, and sillage, yet playful and interesting enough to still be relevant.
Good for long naps, seduction, playing dress up, glamorous nights on the town, and cold, rainy days - versatile in my book. I don't give a damn about what Luca Turin has to say about this perfume, I love it!
Be careful though, Classique can become a bit cloying if used heavily in the heat, at least in my experience. Do not be put off by that though, it is a hell of a perfume!
And of course the bottle is completely unforgettable.
A quirky yet still traditional triumph! :)

Wow, I wore this to bed last night and my boyfriend practically mauled me! He said it smelled, "rich and like everything good." :)
Apparently this is some sort of strange man aphrodisiac. (Manphrodisiac?)

oks-oks

I am testing this and the EDT today on my wrists, both modern versions. The EDP is slightly different from the EDT. While EDT that I reviewed earlier is more about orange blossom and vanilla, playful day time fragrance, this one is more sensual and sexy, all about the mix of vanilla, tonka and amber. I can still smell what seems to be orange blossom in the EDP version but it is tamed by amber/tonka/vanilla combo a lot. Both have great longevity and projection. I think it is important not to overdo these fragrances otherwise they will become too much.

P.S. I agree that the quality of this fragrance very much depends on the version. Recently I came across something plain horrible (screechy, cheap and vulgar) but strangely very familiar someone was wearing. Asked politely and was told that it was Classique Gaultier. I suppose a lot of reviews here are correct and one should test really carefully before the purchase

Renata tang

This is goddess! I got it at a ridiculously low price at Shoppers drug mart.Good for cold weather, can't imagine to use it at summer.

Chelsea1605

Ohh I need a full bottle in my life. A rummy/bourbon vanilla concoction blended splendidly with a combination of florals, amber, tonka bean and sandalwood. If i focus I can pick out each individual note but this is so good. I only own the Intense but this is already much much better.

kre8tivthinkr

This is my signature and has been for a few years. It's feminine through and through: sweet, a tad powdery. It is the quintessential boudoir fragrance for me; when I smell this I get an impression of a soft pink, powder puffs, delicate peignoir sets and marabou slippers. It always puts a smile on my face and I get complimented on it often (usually nighttime when I spray more, I take it easy in the day). But it also works well as a daily fragrance as it suits my personality.

This one to me has a quiet, restrained sensuality to it, but it's not sexual. There is something a little proper that keeps it from being a come on. I don't really parse notes yet, I just enjoy the overall feel of the composition and what it can add to my life.

Soofiya

I fell in love with classique edp just by reading reviews and notes here so it was a blind buy (of course it was a little hard to find)...but for me it is just something more than love
The most prominant note on my skin is vanilla but not a gormaund too sweet one..it is a soapy vanilla and also rum(I usually don't like soapy scents.this one is my exception)
When i first sprayed it i could feel a blast of powder reaching my nose, but not in a baby powder form, that was not even makeup powder,i could feel vanilla powder in the air, vanilla powder with taste of rum, also orchid & rose where transfered into powder, very special and diffetent from familiar perfums, something extraordinary, yummy, beautiful, chic, womanly, not only a perfume,a piece of personality, not too warm, not too sweet, just clean and romantic and hard to explain,a lovely signature scent.very soapy;powdery vanilla-rum+orchid+roses and when time passes it dries down to vanilla+sandle wood+amber(this woody-ambary-vanilla combo is a magic which i die for;i can't believe this deep, sexy, charming dry down)
Classique edp is nice;fancy;deep and femminine, not dark but sensual, it has no age,and it reminds me womanity(not the perfume,i mean women's world)it reminds me heavy makeup, sexy socks, jewlery,it reminds me wearing lovely and sexy dress and then cooking a cake and waiting for your man to reach home, really great choice as a wedding perfume for a bride(in the case you like it)..it lasts more than 10 hours with a nice projection and the bottle is a gem itself
P.p:not every ones cup of tea as couple of my friends dislike it,thanks god my man loves it on me,he claims that this one seems like your natural body odor,it sits on your skin as a silk and sexy dress

I am drawn to Classique even tho it's not quite my thing. I like vanilla, spice, gourmand, fruity, sweet, etc.... but there is just something about Classique that I like (not love.) My fiance says Classique smells like a WOMAN instead of a teenager/fruit or a piece of bakery. I understand that. And I'm 36 years old. ;)

It's just too powdery, soapy, and rosey for me, but I still like it enough to own a bottle. I do think the EDP is a little MORE something.... more depth than the EDT? If I had to only choose one, I'd keep up with the EDP. As of right now, I own both concentrations.

I had hoped to smell more of the dark/gourmand/foodie notes in Classique, like anise, tonka, bourbon vanilla, rum, etc....

Now... I just got Gaultier2 and I'm in love with that despite having a manly edge to it (it's unisex after all), but I found that G2 is AMAZING for layering. (I wear it alone too, I love G2)

Classique adds a feminine touch to G2, with the powder/rose, and G2 adds depth, warmth, and more gourmand to Classique. It's a win win! This layered combo is just about in my top 5 fragrances! They blend/mesh perfectly too!

(The EDT of Classique adds powder to G2, the EDP adds a beautiful ROSE to G2.)

Domenica23

when I bought this perfume I really expected the smell of Gaultier, which is very intense, sweet, playful, inspiring, and absolutely pleasant from morning til evening included! Instead the shop here sold me something that smells like a long gone hint of him, one doesn't even smell Gaultier, one has to really imagine it...know what I mean. I went back to the shop and complained with my bill, but was harshly pushed out off the shop being told that what I smelled is supposed to be Gaultier which is....nothing.
I was extremly dissapointed and had to keep a bottle without what I had wanted and .... payed FOR! Still hav the bottle, but it just wont give out the part for which I payed dearly more than 100 bucks! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !
So this was my review folks. Big pay gone lost, big smell never been here!

mschnabel666

I like the EDT even tho powdery/soapy scents are totally not my thing, I'm into sweeties/gourmands.
But I looooove a good spicy rum/bourbon vanilla.
So I wanted the EDP (blind buy) in hopes it would be all the EDT is, but more-- deeper, more dark vanilla.

And it is. Just very very similar to the EDT. If I had to choose, I'd keep buying the EDP.
I don't get the rum, or the tonka/bourbon... I basically get a deeper, slightly more vanilla than the EDT.

It's a mature, generic perfume, and does smell like a French bathroom.... powder, soap, and a vanilla candle. It's fancy, and elegant... but mature. So yeah, it's somewhat old lady, but if I can wear Britney at my age (35), I can wear this at my age too. I'm all about what I LIKE, and I wear my perfumes for ME.

nazza28

I have been searching for this little baby in my "perfume-hoarders-cupboard" for a while now. Finally found it again hurray!! The EDP is simply divine. Vanilla-rum-rosey goodness, I find myself sniffing my wrist constantly. Such a beautiful and classy scent, my mum exclaimed loudly "mmmm that is lovely!" when she smelt it on my wrist. Ahhh perfection in a bottle!

allie kat

So I have finally bought Classique edp after recommendations from you guys. I felt I had to own it as it's a classic. Does anyone one else find that sometimes a bottle needs to settle after first spraying for a few weeks or months before it reaches it's full potential? I sometimes wear a perfume a couple of times, not be impressed, put it in the cupboard only to reuse it months later and realise it's much better than I thought.
Well that's what I'm hoping happens with Classique. My first thoughts after wearing for a couple of days are soapy ( is anyone familiar with the old pink Lifebuoy soap our mothers used for handwashing clothes?) Having said that, it mellows quickly into something softer, comfortable and well, nice. On me it's a soft and gentle skin scent although I find it lasts longer and projects more when I spray it directly on my clothing.
So I'll wear it for a couple more days and if I don't fall in love as everyone else has it's going on the back of the shelf for a few months and then we'll give this relationship another go. So many happy wearers can't be wrong.

SanaShahn

A vanilla packed powdery goodness that's somehow sweetly romantic! It is no doubt a 'Classique' scent. I'm not married yet but when I do, this will be my wedding day fragrance! I bet this is how Cupid smells like!

Kaste

Simply amazing! So beautiful, feminine and sweet with nice soft rum flavour. I used to like edt on my 20's, but now almost on my 40's I prefer edp version, what I concider more mature and elegance. Stil love them both, but edp is developing more on my skin. Lasting power is great, all day. By time it becomes a beautiful sweet skin scent, edt is more sharper, at least on my skin. Got compliments, when I wore this. It's truly a Classique! I always get back to this, each autumn and wintertime and it feels like coming back to home!

Dark Curls

I have fallen in love with this classic fragrance all over again. I'll be honest, when I was in my upper twenties I felt this smelt a bit 'dated'...now I am 34 and I feel I can now appreciate the absolute beauty and sensuality this scent is - It is sweet and feminine and an attention getter but only in the best possible ways, plus, that bottle! I am on a 90s kick for perfumes and music these days it seems. This one, Champagne by YSL, guerlain champs de elysess, giogio Red, and some older..Paloma Picasso, Cristalle by Chanel, Coco by Chanel parfum, Guerlain samsara...

Owlsova72

One of my favorites. Most complement getter and crowd pleaser. Never yet found one person who dislikes Classique. It has 2 main characteristics for my perfume: sweet and powdery. In addition it is as sexy as hell, very beautiful, long lasting and very classy. When I am in doubt what to wear I wear Classique. I was told it goes well with my chemistry. I think it will go well with most women. I absolutely adore male version and this one is an equal match. There is a reason the bottle is the shape it is. It is absolutely not shy and is sexy. If you cannot handle that do not apply this perfume: it will not allow you to blend with the decor. Dusty rose that many describe I think is the main line that makes it stand out.

rociito.moon

My first impression: Lovely perfume. First I tried it in a toothpick, and I can notice all the notes listed: the rum and the rose, next the flowers and the base of vanilla and sandalwood. A very soft and warm smell, very feminine, powdery and with softer variations that in the EDT (in the EDT the switches between the top, middle and base are very clear; in the EDP the changes are more subtle). Great longevity and sillage.

In my skin, smells different. I thought it will smell more powdery, but no; in any case, I can really notice the rose, ambar and vanilla. I dont know why, but there's not great sillage on me... I'm a little dissapointed.

After 12 hours: I can't smell it!!! zero longevity and zero sillage on me... I must be a freak :(

weasley

Powdery, nostalgic rose, with an elegant and classic feel to it. And a beautiful, delishious sweetness. I like it a lot more than the edt. To me they are totally different fragrances. The drydown of this is so beautiful, as it gets even more sweet and creamy.

It kind of reminds me of Chloe edp, doesn't smell the same, but it's the same kind of powdery, soapy rose.

AliPratt25

I just received a small splash bottle of this. After applying a bit to each wrist I like it but it's pretty strong too! I like strong perfume but this one irritated my nose a little bit (ughh!). After settling in it really reminds me of Dolce & Gabbana The One Desire (which I own). Or maybe Pink Sugar? It smells very familiar for a somewhat old perfume. I will have to test further...

hsheep

What a find! This one really does stand out from other similar vanilla fragrances out there. I've tried Hypnose, Manifesto, Si, Coty, etc etc in hopes of finding a sensuous and warm vanilla, and after many likes - I found this love.

The rose is quite prominent on me, but the vanilla and sandalwood wrap it in a cozy fall time vanilla sweater. It's so very soft, but not in a fleeting sort of way, soft like rubbing your hand over your fluffy sweater and hugging yourself. Ahh...

GourmandGirl

Why have I only just come across this amazing fragrance?? I can see it fast becoming my signature scent! This to me embodies everything a woman should smell like, that clean, soft soapy smell. The first time I tried it, my first thought was expensive soap and talc. Now some people may find that offputting, but for me that was heaven, being the clean freak that I am!

I can only describe it like this... imagine having the most luxurious candle-lit bubble bath of your life, washing with the most expensive, exquisite soap out there, then drying off and dousing yourself in equally expensive talcum powder, getting into your cosiest pj's and under soft, fresh Egyptian cotton bed sheets... et voila- that's exactly how this perfume makes me feel... pure heaven in a bottle!!

Not great sillage on me- maybe I don't spray enough, but longevity is excellent, lasts all day, and of course, the bottle is just so pretty!
Love, love, LOVE this, just wish i'd come across it a lot sooner!!

Edit; I got told I smell lovely by two strangers in the supermarket today while wearing this, so I take back what I said about sillage lol!

Zindsay

After hearing people rave about this perfume I tried it out. To me, it just smelled like a bar of soap. Not very exciting...

Jmalone84

I typically despise rose, but in this the effect is mediated.

This is quite a pleasant scent, makes me think of soft pink lace, tutus and marshmallows. It's a very powdery, almost fizzy vanilla, quite lovely. This is a very soft, feminine dreamy sort of fragrance, very enjoyable, but not overly thrilling. Sillage is okay, longevity isn't amazing. I definitely prefer this to a lot of scents though.

Overall a lovely fragrance. I would like to experience more of it, perhaps I may purchase it at a later date- you never know, I change my mind all the time. Very pretty bottle too :)

I would describe this fragrance as sheer pink.

goldiloks

I purchased the EDP on eBay, with the roses and lace corset bottle - can anyone tell me which year this is from?

francie79

I bought this scent after being told on the boards that this was a great rose/vanilla scent and it didn't disappoint! I love it and the sillage/longevity are amazing so a couple sprays are more than enough. I feel so feminine when I wear this and it smells so sophisticated and classy. If I ever went to a fancy ball dressed to perfection, this is the scent I would wear. Fabulous!

Juliana6

A pure sensuality, a sweet temptation and an adult elegance in one. This is a perfume for The Lady when her wish is to seduce her one and only, to slowly drive him crazy in the boudoir, to tease him before their moments of love. Scent of the desire lingering in the air, scent of her vintage lace corset, of her hair caressing his neck. There's something sinful about this scent.
A warm, inviting, dark, thick vanilla mixed with an aromatic, strong amber color drink (rum). And yes, there really is that dazzling, head turning vibe which accentuates the mood of the whole composition. When I first sprayed it, the vanilla, rose, orchid and rum mixture smelled like dried fruits, and I remembered Just Cavalli for her, but then the perfume showed all its beauty, its noble seduction power, and I think it's so much better, classier than Cavalli. Sad, but I don't get any narcissus, so for me this is rather a sensual, oriental perfume.
Well rounded, "fluffy" and very feminine in an adult way. The woman wearing it is aware of her beauty and her naughty desires. And she will fulfill them very, very soon...

AngieGCarp

If I closed my eyes and were to try and guess, I would think this perfume is a Givenchy offering...it has that familiar undertone. The top layer is sweet as candy. I am a vintage, sultry glam perfume lover but this pretty lady hooked me in. I want to bathe in JPG Parfume! It is divine. It was just what I was looking for, for summer. I need a break from my heavier perfumes. This is fun, happy and sweet...as far as the image its trying to portray with the bodice and lace...wellll....it's misleading. My husband didn't even breath deeply when I asked him about it. He said "yeah, it's okay"...that doesn't mean he doesn't like it, it just means it doesn't make him do a double take. He has excellent tastes in women's perfumes.

The Swedish girl

This used to smell so nice and natural, but now the vanilla smells like burned vanilla sugar and wet dog... very synthetic and fake.

Why do they have to cheapen and destroy every nice scent out there... but still keep the prices high though. :-(

Mmclean

*** correction please note that this below was a review of the new formulation with the frosted glass. Wasn't until I check on here that I figured out the mistake! I was told by the fragrance counter lady that the frosted version EDP was the same. Do they sell this version in stores anymore? I would love to test it.

I am writing about the EDP (and only on paper), so I will need to actually try this on skin to get the full idea of it. But overall a pretty perfume, I did find it quite powdery but did enjoy the vanilla a lot. I got a sample of the EDT so I will update when I try that and the EDP on skin. So far a nice but not stand out, at least not for me.

Blue wolf

I already have JPG Classique Intense which I love so much that it inspired me to buy the original Classique. It is the only fragrance I've worn that has garnered VERY positive feedback from multiple males, including my usually unimpressed hubby.
I found the scent profile of the original Classique EDP to be more complex when on my skin than what is listed by Fragrantica. While I have only worn it once, there is definitely a strong licorice or star anise base note and some citrus in the top: I have Lolita Lempicka and L de Lolita so I know licorice when I smell it. The orange blossom is prominent, as is the orchid and a touch of indole which dissipates quickly. I'm not fond of indoles but here I actually can appreciate the bit of skank, it adds a saucy, alluring 'what-I-imagine-to-be-French' air. The rum combines with the amber and tonka so that I smell a rich chord that reminds me very much of the patchouli in JPG Classique Intense by Francis Kurkdijan, what a clever boy.....
Owning both is a wonderful experience in comparison, and it's hard to say which I love more. Classique is gentler, more coy, more vanillic (but by no means too much vanilla) and more powdery: while C. Intense has that patchouli punch which I used to hate but love mixed with the rose, tiare, jasmine and lick of pomegranate. Orange blossom holds well and magnifies on my skin and has become one of my favorite notes, particularly in the hands of Mssrs. Gaultier & Kurkdijan. Right now I haven't worn the original enough to distinguish more individual notes but I look forward to future investigations. I'm head over heels in love with Classique EDP.

MadeiraD

Magical vanilla and normally I hate vanilla but that strange night time coolness of the orchid note makes this honestly smell etherial, supernatural, just absolutely gorgeous, like the fantasy version of sweet fresh night air, you know the kind the kind that's cool (not cold) and absolutely, marvelously clean, the kind of air you find in unspoiled wilderness

pauroj

i never undestood the appeal of this perfume , till i tried it on my skin and then boom oh my gawd super yummy rum and vanilla and like the song from the sound of music , everything nice kittens , rainbows ,etc it is really that good

KRollison

Classique EDT is me and my hubby's favorite for many years...however this version is a love and sometimes dislike... Some days are it's over powdery and almost disinfectant is all I smell; other days I smell the beautiful vanilla and rose more. I just sprayed on my hand and today I'm smelling the beauty! Gonna keep this out for Spring and hope a new love affair starts :-))

Mitsouko-san

Classique is different every time I wear it, but the most prominent note to my nose is big, powdery rose. I love the sandalwood, but I think my favorite is the occasional glimpse of some other flower (narcissus?), sweet and mellow with a nectar-like richness, almost edible in itself.

Beware, however: vanilla-haters may not find this to their liking. My roommate dislikes vanilla fragrances in general, and being so sensitive to the note, apparently that's all she smells when I wear Classique. Maybe the vanilla projects more strongly at far range than the other notes? Hard to say. For my part, I can't even imagine disliking this scrumptious scent :D The one bit of advice I would give is to spray about twenty minutes before going out. I happen to like the first minutes, but others may find it too powerful and unique at that stage.

This is a perfect scent for going out and strutting proudly around town in the knowledge that you smell beautiful. (Don't tell me I'm the only one who does this...) But I'm just as happy staying in and indulging in some time for myself while bundled in my warmest, softest blanket.

Mrs.Chance

Very long lasting,perfect silage!
Powdery, creamy rose and vanilla. I love this perfume. It's a little bit nostalgic.
I prefer the EDP one, its much better than EDT. This is my opinion.
I think, i'll always love this scent.

mildspicej17u55l

I've fortunately smelled this numerous times on a piece of paper and on my mom and it smells amazing on both. One of the things that comes to mind when smelling this is how unique this smells. It stands out. That's something that you can always count with JPG; quality, uniqueness (unless it's le beau male) and unique, sometimes off the wall packaging. He doesn't try to appeal to the masses. He throws something out there, people go nuts over it and that's that. What I find interesting is, the scent is like mid to late 80s and early 90s power house meets modern, girly sleekness. Its a great combination because all age groups can wear it whether you're 15, or 108. It's very warm, slightly spicy with a woody/boozy/vanilla undertone. It kind of gives me the same impression that cinnabar and opium does even though they smell nothing alike. What I mean by that is it has a sort of incense/headshop thing going on in my nose mixed with warmth and elegance. Although I see this being more agreeable than opium or cinnabar because those require an acquired taste. I imagine a lot of fans of, Amarige, Poison, Opium, Bijan and such loving this.

Jean Paul Gaultier Classique Eau de Parfum was better than I expected! It had been on my want list forever and I recently received it in a swap from a fellow fragrantica member. Amber and orchid with a distinct pop of narcissus that mellows to a slightly boozy vanilla and a touch of rose. In the dry down I can definitely smell the tonka bean and sandalwood. I think what surprised me the most was that this is definitely a strong scent, which I absolutely love about it! A sweet feminine allure that last all day!

Hrisi

Classique Eau de Parfum is similar to Amor Amor by Cacharel and Love potion by Oriflame, but longevity and sillage are better. Rather they are similar to it, because are newer. Have to say this version is better than EDT and I find it really classy and elegant.
Nice!

Angela Agiannidou

Wow! Sensational! It strikes you all rummy vanilla with the smooth undertones of sandalwood and rose, super super feminine and sexy, a strong and pungent concoction that will get you noticed. The fading phase is smooth vanilla and amber but that is after many hours. Ideal for a night out, or on a first date, well, if that doesn't hook him....

joao_vic100

Splendid.

This scent is pure perfection. Never gave attention to JPG's perfumes because i was bothered by the number of flankers, but, this week, i bought J'adore to gifting my grandma (I adore gifting with perfumes) and, with this puchase came some samples, and there he was. Classique EDP. Warm vanilla embraced with a delicious rose touch, sharing the aura with a incredible orchid. The amber and rum notes just bring more heat. The sandalwood here is divine. Nothing to add (i have just to add this gem to my collection.). Took the first place in my wishlist.

(I wore this beauty yesterday and i received tons of compliments.)

risarii

Classique EDT is my signature scent and I find it to be basically perfect in every way. The EDP is very different but still lovely. While the EDT (on me anyway) is Orange Blossom, anise, iris, powder with a hint of ginger spice, this EDP is boozy roses and makeup (think expensive French face powder from the 1950s.) I think the EDT works well year-round (warm and spicy in the winter while the Summer brings out the brightness of the orange blossom--used with a light hand, of course.) I would use this exclusively in the colder months. It's really the best Winter fragrance I can think of.

It's ultra feminine and mature in the way that high heels, stockings and red lipstick are. Not "old" or musty in any way, but sensual. Think a black pencil skirt, pink fluffy sweater, stockings, sexy high heels and silky waves a la Veronica Lake or Lauren Bacall. Maybe with a pink ribbon around the neck or as a headband, because while it's sensual, it's got a softness and comforting aura. Maybe a Marilyn Monroe type; womanly and sexy on the outside, but radiates a soft, ethereal innocence. Not leather, but soft cashmere or velvet.

Superb longevity, nice silage (not overbearing but not invisible.) A++ JPG! ♥

beatrix75

Stil elegance. Feminity womanity topp !!! Love forever

MrsButler

Classique parfum is my signature, so I'm biased. To me, it's divine, not sweet at all (I detest sweet perfumes).

Classique parfum smells of musk, orchid, with a hint of vanilla, sex in a bottle...and oh so feminine. I feel bare without it.

Sillage is amazing, my family/friends know my scent without catching sight of me.

I'm forever in Jaques Cavallier and JPG's debt, my sincere gratitude and admiration goes out to them for creating this CLASSIQUE, sensual perfume. AJB

*EDP is better than EDT IMO, due to intensity and sillage.

Elizete Araujo Moura

Classique trés chique!! deliciosamente embriagador!!

auroramaria

june7rose the classique EDP has a rum note but it's very faint it just adds sweetness together with vanilla,
I thought the rum note would be more prominent when I got mine but I can hardly smell it.
I love the scent though

june7rose

The saleslady assured me this was vanilla and rum, having purchased it, I would have to disagree. I get an overtly "perfumey" floral. A mistake purchase for me, but hardly the first time I've bought a perfume I ended up not loving.

auroramaria

Classique is an immensely beautiful and feminine fragrance. The EDT came out first and that's when I fell in love with it however now I'm happy wearing the EDP cause it is richer and more long lasting,
Powdery sweet and rosey it's my dream come true but I think the EDP has been reformulated because lovely as it is it's not as long lasting as it used to be anyway still amazing perfume

Shwets

Update: out of curiousity i tried the edp at Boots today. It is nothing like my one (from a few yrs ago). This has suddently changed it is harsh and weak near to the edt in terms of scent. So disappointing.
Even up to a year ago it smelt better.
The dry down is similar to my bottle but its not that intense. Sigh.

Shwets

I remember in my teens the edt was so divine and the bourbon vanilla was to die for - now its reformulated for the worst i no longer can wear the edt.

The edp has also been reformulated similarly but i can still wear this. The dry down is amazing on my skin compared to the harsh synthetic beginning.
The dry down is a lovely soft balance of sandal, rose, amber and vanilla. No other perfume has this dry down on me. I have had this on the back of my hand for 7 hrs and its still there.

Schnuppernase

This is a very seductive, womanly perfume. Actually I always prefer lighter or more woody scents, but I think I use this wisely for "special occasions" like a romantic date. :)

It smells like the EdT but much thicker and creamier. When the EdT is a bit bright and sparkly, this is glamourous and voluptuous: a softly sweet vanilla rum orchid rose with that hint of orange blossom (though it is not listed, I still smell it). ONE SPRITZ IS ENOUGH (if you don't want your lover to die).

Classique EdP is a secret potion, a tribute to a sensual but classy woman without being vulgar. It is perfect, but nothing to wear everyday. It must be worn for a reason and somehow I cannot imagine wearing this without having done my makeup and hair perfectly...

ForrealMe2

I bought this again for the 3rd time...i just had to have it...it is so wonderful and long lasting...its powdery and sweet with the rum and gardenia..it is so feminine..it projects like a beast and for that i will always have this..you don't want to risk this one only by from department stores i have gotten fakes in this before..

lyciumchld

Tested today in-store, one spray on the hand. Classique starts out very similar in character to Miss Dior's Le Parfum. Classique is feminine, but powerful and very deep, though not terribly dark. As usual, Cavallier has constructed a scent worthy of association with his nose. I am quite impressed by both silage (which is fairly heavy, but not overpowering) and longevity, and the scent itself is both complex and accessible. I really like it, and though Miss Dior EDP (also similar, but lighter than Classique) has been on my wish list for quite some time, I believe this beauty has surpassed it in importance of acquisition. My mother smelled it on me and she's fallen in love as well. Very, very well done.

deviation

Neither Femme-fatal nor sexy.

This perfume smells like a women who is nurturing as well as who wants to be nurtured. In short it is a smell of the bond between Madonna and a baby.
Shocked? I know I am too.

Long story short: Last year in 2013, I sprayed this perfume and it reminded me of what a strong powerful women would wear. Sweet powdery vanilla was its heart note- a strong one at that. It struck similarities with EDT so I bought this instead! When I used my brand new bottle at home, I detected soapy smell. It stayed soapy, and turned dusty (agree with Diana_drd). Like another reviewer suggested, I resisted applying it on my clothes but it still smelt strange. I got mixed reviews here on the the notes and it puzzled me even more which in turn resisted me from writing my final review.

Fast forward feb 2014, realized the perfume had gone bad and replaced it with a brand new bottle of jpg classique edp. This time the perfume smells entirely different than the store testers. Really I mean it. I know... I know...you might be thinking I have picked up a wrong bottle. No it is this same one! lady with the lace.

you may ask me 'Well then, how does this one smell like?'
here it goes...When I spray, I detect a strong opening of vanilla/ rum/ a bit of sugar and a hint of soap- all these are short-lived and in seconds it turns into this well mannered and well blended rosey powdery vanilla orchid . Mind you, powder here is mildly noticeable, not in your face type. I mean it... the powder is so mild and tender that it smells like new born baby. So gentle and so soft. And strangely enough it makes me feel like a grown wise women who wants to nurture and be a humble person to the world in return. No I am not exaggerating...

Then this perfume starts to melt into each other and produce creamy, milky, mild rosey, clean, almondish... Maybe at this point it smells seductive... not in a sexual way but more like you will get engaged soon way.

In terms of longevity, the perfume stays on my skin for about 6 hours slowly wearing off and the last note to stay on my skin after six hours is only vanilla with a hint of sugary sweetness to it.

Because each JPG EDP bottle I have owned/ tested had different smell, the current one I own is the best of the lot. so I will go with this as the true smell of jpg classique edp. Overall satisfied with this purchase and will wear it more often.

:D

craftyminx

I've tested this several times and thought that it was very nice, and that I wouldn't mind having it. And then the opportunity for a swap came up, and after actually wearing it all day, in cold weather but indoors in the heat, I LOVE THIS PERFUME. I get a good 7-8 hours of wear out of it before it goes to a skin scent. The powdery vanilla just smells so snuggly. Rich and soft and feminine, but not overpowering. I can't remember last time I wore the same perfume more than once in the same week.

Lavallectra

The only thing I don't like is the rum in the beginning, it is very heavy and chemical on me... but when the rum takes a back seat I'm left with everything else - boozy sweet vanilla, rose, amber, wood, tonka. Very warm, rich and sophisticated, a grown up vanilla scent with decent longevity.

kay0981

This perfume is a modern classic! It makes you feel confident and sexy. Despite being very bold and seductive, this scent is also feminine, gentle and romantic. I really enjoy both this and the Eau de Toilette version, but I think that Eau de Parfum is slightly better - richer, more complex and grown up, whilst still very versatile and relatively easy to wear.

Full of rich floral accords and creamy sweetness, Classique opens with soft, velvety roses, rum essence, and a touch of oriental vanilla. It's a fairly heavy opener, and will easily fill the room with just a couple of sprays. The rose is beautiful in this – soft and romantic, it evokes and image of sitting down in a big garden of red roses on a hot, dry summer evening, cuddling up with your loved one...:) The base is loaded with sweet amber and spiced vanilla, and there is even a slight hint of soapiness in it. The powdery accord of Classique is very pronounced from start to finish, and gives it a slightly old-fashioned feel; not that it wouldn't suit a young girl. To me, it smells a little bit like a bag of expensive make up. And even if you don't normally like powdery scents, I'd still suggest giving this a shot. The powdery aspect here, although very pronounced, is done in a way that blends really well with the rest of the composition, and compliments other notes without becoming too overwhelming.

I steered away from trying this perfume for a long time, because I thought that the bottle looked just awkward; but trust me, this little gem really is worth trying. I suppose that the provocativeness of the bottle matches the scent quite well. This is a beautiful, sophisticated, romantic perfume, and I think it'd smell fantastic on any woman!

MissLola

I prefer the EDT over this EDP. EDT suits my skin better and last longer than the EDP.

ForrealMe2

i got this again for Christmas and boy was this hard to find during the holiday season..this fragrance is lovely and delicate yet loud that it lasts all day..it is extremely powdery with gardenia and the rum helps balance it out a bit to help with the sweetness but its not girly fun its a serious grown up or nice night out fragrance..it is worth the money because it lasts forever.

naaym.agecra

I want to try this cause it has rum. I own an Alien liqueur de perfum and it smells really good on me. I should try this!

arajuna

This is truly the most long lasting perfume i own, i sprayed it on 20 hours ago and i can still smell it on myself.
this perfume is Classic and classy without being too overpowering or powdery as those types of perfumes often are. It is rich and warm and sensual.

the essence of a truly feminine woman.

i find that the notes are so well blended that they can be quite hard to pick out, so this leads to it smelling like something completely unfamiliar and Unique.

well worth the Price for what you get, and top marks for the beautiful lace bottle too

perfumejunkie75

I purchased a used almost full bottle of this perfume. I smelled it at the department store and loved it but not to spend nearly $100 on it. I'm wearing it today and I'm really enjoying it. It's a very warm scent for the winter and very cozy. It reminds me a little bit of Giorgio Armani Sensi. The longevity seems to pretty good. Very happy with this one.

alien baby

Love it but I don't adore it. Compared to the EdT this is delicious and creamy from the very start with nothing harsh or pushy to overpower your personality. The dry down smells just like the talcum powder I remember from childhood. I don't 'feel' the sexy or sensuous, I get warm, cosy and loved.

Def. a bottle to have in your collection. And great for any time of the year or day of the week.

MaddieClfd

It's one of those... I tend to wear it for official, important meetings. You know - power dressing, serious fragrance. Yes, this is how I see it - elegant, clean, serious.
I can be serious when I have to, but I'm rather easy going person. So I don't feel like this fragrance matches my personality.
There is also the fact, that on me it smells like...soap. Posh, elegant soap. With a hint of vanilla. I appreciate it, it's a classic, but I may still have some 'growing up' to do to be able to enjoy it fully :)

macheprofumo

One of my favourites worn since 2004. It is warm but yet unique in that no everyone can wear it successfully. Although it has an underlying sweetness to it, it is a sophisticated scent for the mature and independent woman.

FuzzCookies

There are no words for how divine this fragrance is. My Mum got it first for Christmas and as soon as I smelled it I was hooked. This is sexy, mysterious and full on glamorous. The epitome of how a sexy woman would smell.

Lust87

What can i say - it's my signature scent, love at first sniff. I received my first "fragrance compliment" when i was wearing Classique EDP, it was four years ago. ;)
I know both versions, EDT/EDP but i prefer EDP because of it's sweet creaminess, classic, powdery twist, lovely vanilla-rose combo. By the way, are you sure there's no orange blossom in it? I'm pretty sure i can smell sweet, creamy orange blossom, which i love.
EDT is more sharp, soapy, not that comfortable to wear for me, but i still like it.
Longevity is fantastic - it lasts 11-12 hours on my skin, i love the sillage too, it's really heavy.
I can wear Classique all the time, no matter if it's day, night, autumn, winter, spring or summer.
It's just love and i won't fight it. ;)

sky74

GartenGnome's review couldn't express my thoughts better. She's right ; the difference between the two is enormous.

GartenGnome

Hot damn! What a sex bomb!! Absolutely delicious, I can sniff this all day.
Question: why is this EDP so amazing from start to finish, yet the EDT by JPG has really sharp opening notes which smell like something you'd find in your granny's musty old mothball-filled attic???

evesoho

I was in the liquor store today, searching for a htf kind of beer, and I ended up behind a woman who was leaving a fragrant trail I picked up. At first I thought, 'oh pink sugar/prada candy', but two seconds later, having stepped closer, I knew it was a *real* perfume. I have to say that I was a bit surprised, she was wearing cut off jean shorts, had red koolaid hair pulled back plainly, no makeup, and was carrying her baby in a car seat. I totally forgot what I was looking for, and closed in on her, sniffing away. "Hi," I said politely, "are you wearing perfume?" "Yes," she said. "It's beautiful." "Thanks," she said, not at all fazed. "I forget the name, but it's in a bottle shaped like a woman's body, it's pink and has lace on it." "Jean Paul Gaultier," I said and she replied, "that's it!" I'm 99% sure that Classique edp is the one, after looking at bottles and notes on Fragrantica! This stuff is gold. The only other thing I thought about the perfume was that it didn't really suit the weather, because it's summer now, but I could certainly forgive anyone for wearing it at any time. I'd probably save it for nighttime if I were going to wear it in summer. This is on my want list!

Germany

Yumm I think it's great! Sexy classic perfume. Elegant and rich amber rum and vanilla. Can smell sweet orchid as well. Reminds me a little of le parfum by Dior. Miss Dior. It's that amber and vanilla base that they share as well as the rose! No wonder I love this as le perfum is my favourite frag. Could decide between edt and EDP I am glad I went with this. It's richer and sexier. It's so beautiful!!!! Thanks for recommending auroramaria !

sophia*rose

I do love this perfume, but wear it very rarely. Mostly because it is a very heavy scent, and extremely sexy. I like sexy scents (who doesn't), but when I wear this, I feel like I'm exclusively looking to seduce. There are not a lot of occasions on which I feel that way... I prefer wearing scents like Angel, where the seductive quality is a side-effect, not the main purpose (obviously this is not the main purpose of Classique, I just perceive it that way personally). A single spray on the wrist or neck is enough with the EdP, it's strong and will be noticed, trust. My ex would get jealous whenever I wore this to head out without him. It was the only fragrance he ever reacted to in that way. He found a lot of my perfumes sexy, but this one... whole 'nother level.

However, I want to add, there is a lot of elegance, class and *alluring* sensuality in JPG Classique. Especially when it fades. On my skin, it opens up with some citrus notes, reminiscent of clementine/mandarin skin, quite refreshing. That fades pretty quickly though, and the sweet rum sets in. The rum note really stands out to me throughout, which combined with amber gives it that heavy quality, but the powdery and floral notes save it from going in the direction of headache-inducing. It's definitely a classic and makes me think of the 20s and 30s, despite the fact that perfumes probably didn't smell this way in those times. It just has this "classic" and timeless character, and that's what makes it so beautiful.

itsallgood

I like the beginning of this and the middle of this perfume very much. Towards the end I'm reminded of hot candle wax, which is okay when I'm scenting a room instead of myself. The perfume lasts a long time and the bottle is unique. The vanilla and rose are complimentary.

BikiniBabe

Well..i gave this one a try today, as well, and i must say i wasn't blown away by it.

Sure it starts off really strong almost like a Chypre Floral perfume and that is a bit intimidating to me, as those tend to turn stinky on my skin... but this one knew when to make a stage exit and didn't overstay its welcome =).... it died down to a very sweet, powdery vanilla scent. Not bad really, but i was expecting more from a Jean Paul Gaultier perfume - some twists, some turns, some unexpected drama... but i was left waiting. Nothing spectacular happened!

Now, I'm not saying that this isn't a great perfume or that it isn't well balanced or that it doesn't have staying power...because it does! It has everything that a classic elegant perfume should have! ... it was just lacking that quirk...that spectacular moment that i have come to expect from his creations.

So all in all its definitely an "ok" perfume... but its nothing special and more so nothing special for its price.

tzeal

i love this scent!!! it last forever and honestly is intoxicating. i love love love it!

evacecilias

I had high expectations on this one, after all years of summed up good reviews and rave about Classique. I am dissapointed I can't pull this of, on me it is a synthetic strong vanilla that never melts into my skin, rather stays outside and don't ever wanna settle and be smooth. Maybe there is one of all Classique varitations that do, but if they are gonna be anything similar to this...I'll pass looking for it. Lucky you all who can wear it !

LadyRogue

I love the lingerie clad 'torso', and I love Gaultiers taste and sense of style (I'll even forgive him that he 'borrowed' the design for his torso ladies from a favorite vintage of mine: Shocking by Elsa Schiaparelli.) The truth is; I would forgive him anything because he is a scent-genie! I would love to own all his perfumes (if they only were a bit more budget friendly! - sigh) because they all have a certain "je ne sais quoi" about them. He is a bit crazy, but in a very, very good way!

Jean Paul Gaultiers Classique is a beloved favourite of mine. It never bores and is so well made that I really can't tell much of the notes apart. Yes; there is jasmine, a warm vanilla, a hint of anise, amber and ylang-ylang and much much more. And it all seems to rest on a sexy unusual amber. The note composition is so expertly interwoven that I don't know how it works, but it just does! And how! If I don't have a bottle I miss it. It's so sexy, classy and unique.

On my skin it smells like no other scent I have. It melts into me and becomes an extension of my personality. To me a hallmark of a great fragrance is that when you wear it you feel like a 'prettier you' well, this one makes me feel that way. People always ask me what I am wearing and most go and purchase a bottle for themselves after I tell them what makes me smell so 'modern chic' in a very french style.

One day I will own all of them: *rattles piggy bank and dreams* In the mean time, if you don't know it, you must sniff it, it might be the scent you've been looking for!

RedLady

This is very rich and sweet, the opening in particular is quite shocking.
It is extremely lovely, however. Very girly without being infantile and the rose and vanilla blend beautifully together.
This is bound to get you noticed and and plenty of compliments.
It is undoubtedly sweet though and I think it could be cloying if over-sprayed. And it clings to your clothes like a sloth to a tree.
Only use a little and you're good to go!

supergirl83221

Classic and masterpiece... You´ll either love or hate JPG EDP. I totally understand why it had been adored since it launched in the 90´s. This is walk into a bed of roses and orchids before entering a field of vanilla. I am a sucker for vanilla scents. JPG edp is a cup of my tea, having said that. The cloud of vanilla is very rich. I can smell something like an almond note here (though it doesnt have it), so i assume it is just my olfactory nerves and synapses doing its thing again. Sillage is great, longevity is without doubt good too! :) Overall, JPG is a wow fragrance. Can be cloying or overwhelming, however it is still a perfume that will stay and continuously loved by many.

jerzygrill

Ugh, candy store but not a rich enthralling candy store like Feu d'Issey or Lolita Lempicka. I really dislike the overpowering sweetness of the vanilla, evoking cheap scented candles. It's just too much. I hope I can give this bottle away to someone not too close to me, because I don't want to smell it. I'm going downstairs right now to rub some denatured on myself before my mates come home.

shanghaifleur

If flirting could have a scent, then it's JPG Classique!...I call it my "vavavoom" perfume!!...

This is a sexy scent, but not of the dark, voluptuous, mysterious kind: it's actually teasing and playful like a bubbly naughty girl who loves teasing men but stays as elusive as a butterfly!... When I smell this I have images of The Crazy Horse and French Cancan and laughter and booze!....It's very Jean Paul Gaultier in fact.
Eventhough it's sweet with loads of vanilla, I don't see Classique as a teenage fragrance, it can very well be pulled off by "grown up" women, depending on her personality and the occasion (this is not a boardroom meeting kind of perfume IMHO!...)

Classique is for a woman who doesnt take herself, neither life, too seriously. She's not a "femme fatale": she's a flirtatious girl who "just wanna have fun" like the song goes!....
Next time u come accross this little gem, try it and let your imagination run free!...

beatrix75

much good and soft and elegant than the EDT witch is good but old fashion.too classique.

beatrix75

well well i have, i love "again" in love o good so meny good fragrances like made for me for my skin ,and definitly this one its for mee! In the first 5 minutes its soo much strong and powdery so much off everything but after the 5 minutes woow girls and womens this one burrrnnn!!! vanilla amber ,orchid and soft petal of rose just the soft sweet smell just to eat allmoust absolutly a favo!!!

viveka

I adore EdT version, for me it's the most sensual scent ever. The EdP version is less "classique", more common for my nose. A little bit too ordinary, less niuanced and sometimes annoying. The scent of old rose in EdP is overwhelming and dominant whereas in EdT there're fireworks of ingredients. But it's still not bad - it's just less pretty than EdT sister. I also prefer the simplicity of the EdT bottle.

Yes, definitely I'm the EdT - person :)

But I love JPG in general.

djvjuice

Didnt like it at first as it was a lil bit too heavy and overwhelming, and strong, however about after a couple of hours the other composition of the scent is so unforgetable so sweet and creamy and in the end it smelled like vanilla soft musk from the body shop.

lemontreelime12

I found i liked this better on than smelling it in the store. On the skin it becomes warmer, and all the other notes come out.

nadia11

I totally agree with you Mllefantine. Like you, I love perfume too much to have a signature scent but this one would have to be the most well-rounded feminine perfume for me, that i could wear anytime. It is absolutely lovely and makes me feel very classy!
Jean Paul Gaultier, you rock~ :)

KittyBaditty

The opening is what I imagine women in the dressing rooms of the 1900's Moulin Rouge would smell like (the romantic image, not the historically accurate one) - all powder, roses, cosmetics, hip flasks and smoke. As it softens, I get the comfort of the amber, and the familiarity of vanilla.

I tend to buy with my eyes first, and the packaging and bottle are just so pretty in real life. Looking at the torso bottles online doesn't do them justice.

This lady is a keeper - all woman, all seduction, all the time. I love her especially much in winter, when I'm out for cocktails, or late at night.

In mood

Classique EDP is a very elegant, sophisticated and rich perfume. I smelled EDT before and I didn't like it at all. This EDP is just gorgeous. The perfume pyramid is poor but the perfume itself is marvelous. I can't say I smell orchid, for me it smells like jasmine with roses and vanilla. The vanilla here is not overpowering, it makes the perfume more rounded and feminine. The price for EDP is high but this perfume is very long-lasting.

Tovah

This is such a memorable, haunting fragrance. It's one of those "Made for my skin" type scents that I know I wear really well. I have the EDP, and it's one of the longest lasting, most overtly feminine fragrances I've ever worn. It seems to become part of my skin, but it's also radiant. It's creamy, warm vanilla, slightly burnt cherry tobacco, and red roses, yet it's richly gourmand. I get stopped randomly everywhere (even in Best Buy) and asked about this fragrance from strangers, and all my family and friends comment on it every time I wear it. It's elegant, and unusual. It's a one-of-a-kind that won't be mistaken for any other fragrance. I think the bottle is gorgeous. This fragrance is no tease; it's serious irresistible seduction.

Turtledove

I didn't expect to like this, I avoided it for quite a while because of the bottle, but the scent itself is really pretty wonderful. First off, you have to try it on your skin! You don't get the best of it on paper. It's also worth waiting for the top notes to blow over.

I'm not a huge fan of the opening, the first 20 minutes are a rather loud, powdery, rosy-floral-cosmetics smell, with a hint of creamy almond-ish vanilla underneath. It's nice, but it was definitely an "I've smelled this everywhere" kind of moment. It has a little bit of a synthetic-floral-hairspray feel to it too, but thankfully it's not overwhelming on me if I don't overdo it.

It is totally worth the wait though, because after the first part fades off, you start getting wafts of the most gorgeous deep, warm, gently-spiced vanilla with a rich, creamy-musky-almondy kind of feel to it, and a faint dusting of that rosey powder that keeps it delicate and VERY femme. At this point the sillage is very subtle, it's really more of a skin scent, but I like it that way. It's very soft, but it lasts for hours.

I don't quite get the "sexy" aspect of it, it doesn't seem showy or flashy to me at all, it's much more suited to someone who is just comfortable in their own skin. Maybe it's the gentle musky tone that it has, but it really seems to have a soft, lived-in kind of feel to it, with a human warmth that makes it very approachable, especially once it calms down. In my opinion (at 24) it seems much more appropriate for a woman than a young girl, it feels like something I would grow into. It seems very confident and self-possessed in a relaxed, feminine way that feels grown-up, but not matronly, it doesn't seem limited to one generation. I can see Classique being one of those scents that becomes timeless, it might even live up to its name.
