Update 3/1/24 after use for many months and occasions my opinion has only improved. This is a very nice cold weather scent that is sweet and leaves a very nice trail that i have gotten compliments from both men and women curious to what is that scent.
Its a slightly sticky, powdery, coffee blend making it to be a very elegant scent in the drydown and middle stages..
Its unique enough to not be similar to others, even the original one. I love the coffee and powdery notes.
Only compliant is the longevity, lasts about 5 hours. Wish it was stronger.

Pleasant scent but not much different from original Amen. Scent is 8.5/10. Originality is 1/10 (same smell as Amen). No coffee here.

gandrasta

It's just coffee and nothing else but coffee. Smells rather harsh with minimum depth. I think it's a pass

Irvdaman15$

@JamesGamez from having collected a few bottles myself. Its seems the oldest in my collection (Thierry mugler bottom of box instead of just mugler on newer formulations) seem to have gotten old meaning it will lose its strength even if they were never opened. My ultrazest, pure coffee, and pure wood all seem to have this issue and all are pretty old from release date and were opened new

JamesGamez

Smells like the OG A*men without the tar note. The coffee in this fades pretty quickly. This is more of a reformulated version of the original.
This is very sweet, so if sweet fragrances aren’t your thing you may want to stay away.
This smells so good…to bad it’s been discontinued.

Update - The projection and longevity on this is horrid.

Irvdaman15$

The last and final addition the my a men collection.
I thought this was going to smell basic from what the people have commented on here.
Very underrated, the coffee note is is very noticeable in the initial spray. It fits very nicely with the original angel men dna. I also get this very nice powdery touch in the drydown after notes, which I don't get in any of the other a men flankers.
It lasts a long time also, I think older muglers tend to have more projection and staying power and this one is all the way back from 2009 (you can tell by the front box letters, Thierry mugler being old, just MUGLER for the new ones)
This surprised me. Very nice scent, manly yet sweet and catching.
10/10 I'm glad to have this and it is a perfect fragrance for me because it has everything I like.
Can not wait to use this for the cold rainy days.

ingeneuxo

-Screechy synthetic scent.
-This is rubbing alcohol in a bottle.
-As for the coffee part...i get less 'coffee' so much as 'burnt coffee beans'..not in a good way. (-)

The concept of adapting the traditional artisanal techniques for crafting luxury goods to making fragrance that spawned Pure Leather, Pure Malt, Pure Havane, and Pure Coffee is genius.

“Pure Coffee” is nice but doesn’t quite live up to its name.
There is some coffee here, noticeable in the overture and it's pleasant, but doesn't last long and it's not quite the double espresso I was hoping for.

If you’re looking for a coffee fragrance Pure Coffee will be a disappointment.
And at today’s obscene prices it’s not ideal for a Blind Buy.
[If you are looking for coffee try Intoxicated by Killian]

Supposedly the original/first version of the Pure series has “Thierry Mugler” on the box, the later just “Mugler”, but I'm not sure if Mugler re-released Pure Coffee for the magic circle or whatever it's called like they did with Pure Malt.

Pure Coffee is, however, a sublime Patchouli, and, imho the most aesthetically pleasing of the A*Men flankers.
Reasonable performance, and I greatly prefer the Pure Coffee dry down to Pure Malt, Pure Leather, Pure Havane, Pure Wood or A*Men.

The dry down features a kind of buttery, creamy patchouli-vetiver-cedar that is absolutely beautiful.

It struck a chord - reminds me of a cured white ambergris for which I’ve been trying to find a substitute for more than ten years, and thus far I’ve never been able to find anything like it, but the dry down of Pure Coffee is vaguely reminiscent of the scent profile. It is lovely.

Although not a beast in terms of projection Pure Coffee’s dry down is beautiful and unusual enough to prompt curiosity and compliments from those around you.

Nightster

If they serve coffee in heaven it must smell like this.

BatemansFragrances

First impression : Too similar to the original. Smells like the opening of the original A men but without the tar note. Will update soon.

Yeah Pure coffee is pretty much the coffee opening of A men extended to last for several hours instead of 30 minutes, minus the tar note and caramel. It really is just that simple. It is addicting, beautiful and cozy, but i find it rather boring. They could have done well with a big milky note in the drydown, or like a potent dark chocolate you eat with your espresso. Would not blow the money on it unless i got extra to toss around.

Side note : Kevin Samuels said this one does not smell at all like how it did when it first released in 2008. It was re released after 2010 or something with a different smell, according to him.

mutatismutandis

Pure Coffee has a wonderful, rich, warm opening. The mixture is that of coffee, musk and cedar with hints of vetiver and cedar. It smells like a rather nice, niche coffee. It projects moderately on me for the first few hours, settles down to a skin scent and is mostly gone by five hours in. It's one for colder and cool weather. If it lasted longer and was more powerful it'd be a love for me. I'm down to my last few drops now.

micavana

Imagine that you are tilling your yard on a warm spring morning. The smell of fresh turned earth fills the air. You decide to add freshly ground coffe and chocolate powder, tilling it evenly into the wet soil. You plant small vetiver plants and sprinkle them with a small amount of musk.

While this is not a coffe dominant scent as the name implies, I do get the coffee note.

I get beast mode performance with Pure Coffe. It is very much a masculine scent that works well in any attire.

If you like the A*Men line or a coffe themed fragrance , you should try this one. If you are looking for a coffee dominant fragrance, this is not it.

sakura28

I got a sample decant of this because I am looking for a coffee fragrance.

Unfortunately this is not what I was exactly looking for. When I sniff this its.. coffee-like...nutty but not exactly coffee? .. to sum it up, I get a real strong masculine axe-like men's cologne type of scent with a hint of coffee-ish vibe notes. I do not like it at all, but then again I do not love the original AMen.

I'm looking for a pure just coffee scent. Ironically with the name "pure coffee" this is not pure coffee at all. A coffee pass for me. If you're looking for a coffee scent, so far I've had the best luck when I sampled Akro awake and chocolate greedy from montale.

maxpowerboston

This smells of coffee sweetness with some complexity to start but settles down to a largely patchouli scent within an hour or two. It certainly has that AMen feel but is lacking the overt caramel and sugary notes of the original, leaning more to a dry coffee/patchouli scent thsts much quieter and close to the skin.

Longevity is 5-7 hours on my skin with low projection after an hour. By hour 7 it’s imperceptible to my nose.

It’s a 7/10 to me, largely based on the delicious coffee note that’s there for a bit. It honestly feels like a crummier version of AMen.

ROBOTHUG

Sometimes I read these so-called reviews and smh at the complaining.

What did you expect from a $90 fragrance?!
It smells cheap and fades quickly BECAUSE IT IS CHEAPLY MADE AND WATERED DOWN.

This is what Designers do.
They don’t give a shit if you like it.
They know all you care about is a low price and the Opening Notes.

CagoDomo

This smells like you freshly sprayed the original A*Men and then sprinkled some Hershey's cocoa powder on it. Or maybe some Swiss Miss hot chocolate mix..
The coffee note is a little synthetic and is more of a roasted coffee bean than a cream and sugar coffee- but I think that's what they were going for.

Given the outlandish bottles and names of these fragrances, I always expected the featured notes like: coffee, tonka, mint, leather, wood etc...to be more bold and unapologetic, but they usually aren't- and Pure Coffee is no exception. The coffee note is tucked away and not too overpowering, but the fragrance as an aura does give off a vibe of coffee. Despite some of my seeming criticisms, I still really like this fragrance. You're not going to get any compliments or anything but if you love the line, you'll love this one. I wear this one for myself in the fall/winter and I love it. It takes some of the gourmand notes from the original and really pushes them forward making a sweeter, more chocolatey version. This could've easily been called Pure Cocoa

[A*Men Pure Coffee]
⚫️⚪️⚪️⚪️⚪️

Honestly smells like cheap advent calendar chocolate. There isn’t a gripping, realistic coffee note to be found in ‘pure coffee’. It also smells completely unfinished to me. This cheap chocolate/coffee thing features heavily in the 1996 release, however the original A*Men has fun with it by adding it alongside patchouli, cotton candy and caramel.

This really feels like a missed opportunity. Too restrained for its own good.

A*Men Pure Hershey’s would be a more apt name; Pure Coffee it is not.

Yeoubi

This fragrance is definitely an interesting one, especially because I blind bought it. I also note that prior I had not even smelled the original A Men. The "Pure Coffee" can be a bit misleading for many looking for a true coffee note. Rather, I agree with FrankInScent below, the coffee note is blended well into the original A Men scent profile. Now, having both A Men and Pure Coffee, both smell VERY similar, especially in the opening. Yet, despite being disappointed initially, I gave it some time and revisited it. Now, after you let the scent settle down, the smooth sweet notes with some coffee lies there for most of the life on the skin. Much more pleasant than I would expect. The opening can be harsh and I personally don't like the huge blast of the patchouli in the opening (Smells almost bitter like dark chocolate), so as it mellows out, the scent becomes much more enjoyable to me.

Performance is good in terms of projection and longevity. I do feel like it is better to buy it discounted, as I feel dumb blind-buying it full retail off of Mugler's official online store. (I waited a couple months and it never showed up at discounters). Sample before you buy.

I have wore Mugler's Pure Coffee the whole Fall and Winter 2019 so I feel comfortable in giving an opinion now.

Pure Coffee has the classic Mugler DNA we are all familiar with, we all know an A*Men when we smell it.

Despite the name Pure Coffee name I don't really get a real coffee smell. The Coffee seems to take a back seat to the Mugler DNA, so don't expect a realistic coffee scent or a strong coffee scent in general. It smells good but nothing of real interest. Personally I get a better coffee smell from Pure Tonka.

This has great lasting power providing you apply properly and moisturize before applying. I get about 1 hour of strong projection before getting closer and closer to the skin.

Mugler A*Men Pure Coffee is okay. I never got a compliment on it. I will keep it just for collector reason, but will not reach for it anymore.

I hope this helps.

MNadz

Coming from someone that found the OG AMan too sweet and over-the-top, this is really good. The toned down signature AMan DNA really appeals to me.

Opens with a ground coffee note that quickly dries down as the patch comes to the forefront. Musk adds depth to the fragrance over its life.

Longevity and projection are average on me. If you can find this for $40 for 100ml bottle, it’s certainly worth it.

Recommend from me...although always sample before you go all in.

ReapThaWhirlwind

A true flanker to the original A*Men. Many people, including myself, were overly captivated by the name. Expecting this to be a fragrance entirely its own—with coffee at the frontier (rather than patchouli).

The use of coffee here is noticeably precedent—but is extremely aesthetic. It is blended into the fragrance with the style of a technician.

The coffee accord gives the patchouli a deeper, warmer, more dominantly gourmandish backdrop. In the original A*Men, the gourmandish aspect was secondary; a lightly warm, chocolate-like accent amongst an intense freshness. Here the gourmandish aspect is more like the primary. Very neck-and-neck with the patchouli.

It does have to be dabbed on to get this effect out of it, which may have been foreshadowed by the star accents that line the bottle in its mainstream advertisement images. If you spray this on, you will off-balance the levels, and it will project more simplistically, with less sophistication, and more patchouli dominance.

It reminds me of a Lex Luthor versus Superman scenario. One who proudly claims to be capable of equal or greater potential, yet is easily shown up and stumped by a meager challenge. People would hatefully say this fragrance has no potential at all, but it is actually an extremely enjoyable fragrance, with impressive technicianing, to those who can behold it.

Oddly enough, there is something of an awkward ammonia tinge that can emerge from the fragrance. I don't recall this being there the first time I sampled it.

Uncertain as to which this is specifically—but other than being an early Joker reference by Mugler—this presence could serve as a guidemark to denote that it's time to get a new bottle (the fragrance has gone stale); or that the wearer has applied too much of the fragrance (that this fixative ingredient is emerging from the aroma).

greekbasil

This is amen but w a bitter coffee opening. If you like amen you will like this. Lasts a bit less than amen though

Golcher

To me this is a simpler and lighter version of the original A*Men. It does hint some coffee in the opening (similar to the original A*Men) but it's gone in a few minutes leaving you with an improved version of the OG.
I was never a fan of A*Men, it annoys me a bit but Pure Coffee gets rid of most of those notes that I didn't like leaving you with a more wearable and enjoyable scent.

Very good frag, just don't expect coffee.

matherneconnor

Smells even less like coffee than pure tonka which I find funny. Way too powdery for me though for a coffee scent with quite a bit of earth as well. Not what I was expecting, almost smells like Bordeaux's Butt Paste.

killandrob

When It lasts, Its smells good.
On my skin this disappears in a couple of hours.
But the caramel coffee smells good.

Last about 2-3 hours
Sillage about 2 feet.

tabularasaus

I thought I was going to love this one. Jeez talk about a let down. Not what I was looking for. Reminded me of B-men. Can’t say I hold that one dear to my heart.

smellme11

Choco-patchouli with a double shot of Italian roast (burn and char the coffee beans please) espresso. This brew is a deep dive into a caffeinated darkness of pure coffeehouse heaven.

KV55

Pure Coffee by Thierry Mugler is an ode to a decadently sweet brew of Arabica with a juxtaposition of freshness that is the quintessential cornerstone of the masculine fragrance market. Starting with a vibrant, green aldehyde alongside a maple sweetness, the eau de toilette reveals its central motif of coffee that bears the hallmark of a power centre creating a steady play for the composition.

The drydown reveals an extension of the orchestration of top and middle notes while merging with the softness a patchouli base. Pure Coffee is a true cloud nine fragrance, one that will be adored by many.

missk

It is late in the evening as I sit down to write my review of A*Men Pure Coffee. The coffee note confuses my senses as I often wake to the scent of coffee, yet here I am only moments from sleep sniffing its intoxicating aroma.

I prefer this flanker a little more than the original A*Men, yet my favourite flanker from this line is still A*Men Pure Malt.

A*Men Pure Coffee is a coffee-dominant fragrance, however, if this fragrance were a hot beverage it would be a mocha with a higher ratio of coffee to chocolate. This fragrance does have the all-too-familiar A*Men DNA, so it's of no surprise that this flanker has a chocolatey, gourmand scent.

The patchouli accord nearly takes over the coffee note in the drydown, with the rest of A*Men Pure Coffee's development being a battle until the bitter end between these two notes. I do like the way A*Men Pure Coffee smells on my skin, yet I must admit that I would enjoy it far better on my partner's skin as I find it a little too dense for my own personal tastes.

A*Men Pure Coffee must be a good seller for Thierry Mugler, as this fragrance is still sold despite having been released in 2008. In fact, I am pleased to see many A*Men flankers having stood the test of time. Only some have been discontinued which is a rarity it seems in the current fragrance market.

ameda

Disappointing. To my nose, patchouli is as much at the fore as coffee in this composition, and the characteristic A*Men performance sadly diminished, as both notes flee within an hour, leaving the faint impression of having been in a room with someone wearing A*Men. I still have the remnants of the spare refill of I purchased with the original gleaming steel case in 1995. That stuff, always having been kept away from light, remains so potent one spray would do for a moderate application, and more than two sprays would announce one's presence at 50 meters. The DNA is there, but Pure Coffee lacks anything like the projection or sillage of the original, which I suppose may render it more manageable for some users. The lack of richness, prominence, and endurance of the coffee note, however, makes this flanker virtually useless to me. I have never cared for the newer, weak sauce formulation of A*Men, and this is even worse.

a8k9

It starts off strong with a nice coffee note blended well with a creamier and more subtle A*Men. As the fragrance dries down, the rich coffee notes take a step back and you're left with the subtle A*Men DNA. I have also found this to be the case with Ultra Zest. Both start out great but fade to a subtle original. In reality however, that's what a flanker should be I guess.

Projection is moderate at the start fading as the fragrance dries down. Longevity is not bad, it lingers on the skin for about 4-6 hours.

Overall, its a nice coffee scent and I'd recommend it to all A*Men lovers that want something similar to the original but a little different.

Thonzzz

Simply the best gourmand/ coffee based scent out there (better than the overhyped Pure Malt IMO) & the most subtle fragrance with a decent staying power from Thierry Mugler. With just a little bit of A-Men DNA (just how I like it). It's very well balanced, simply a cup of coffee in a fragrance bottle. 9/10

RogerJr17

I have a sample of this and it's almost out. I actually got two samples whenever I bought Mugler Cologne. I used up one sample and liked it. My remaining sample I use sparingly. I've had enough wearings for it to show me how it works on my skin. It's got that patented A*Men DNA that most love, but with a coffee note that's very subtle. I don't get the "overwhelming," "energizing," or "intense" coffee smell that most get that I've spoken with concerning this scent. I get just enough to know it's there, but sadly, doesn't last long. The fragrance title is misleading. Pure Coffee. More like Pure A*Men with Coffee lightly added. Once this sample is done, I'm sure I won't be purchasing a full bottle. I can't justify having two of the same fragrances sit on my shelf.

6opar

A*Men with the coffee note pumped up, and that perverse tar accord turned down. One of the better flankers, Pure Coffee is quite good on its own terms but cannot replicate the disarming charm of the twisted hedonism that is the sensational
A*Men - “maybe the most important edt of the 90’s” as i shamelessly called it some 10 years ago. And while i don’t fully agree with everything i wrote back then, behind this statement i still stand.

My least favourite of the flankers I tried, I had really high hopes, I love coffee scents like Bond New Haarlem and I can appreciate Tom Ford Café Rose but in Mugler’s I do not really get the coffee smell, the way I like a coffee smell, it’s more like an overburnt or overdone coffee –maybe I have to let my smell check or I smelled a bad tester or maybe it will be better when it gets really cold – the dry down is different, better, nicer but not a buy bottle worthy fragrance – I would like to try Pure Tonka though some compare it with Pure Coffee, which I would dislike, but most compare it with Bond New Haarlem which I really love which is for me the best coffee scent I ever tried

clross26

It starts out strong, heavy coffee smell, but the magic to me at least is in the dry down. That’s where this fragrance really shines and becomes this really delectable, lovely smelling scent. This is wearable. I don’t see this really being a social scent but something that’s a little more intimate. I like it, but would probably only wear it occasionally.

Bond James Bond

Just got a sample of this and I must say that smelling it before sraying any on my skin, I do get a coffee note.

After spraying it on my skin it dries down quickly. I get no coffee notes. It smells boozy. It reminds me of how my dad would smell when he got in from drinking all night and bar hopping. Or it could be the accumulated smell of junk stored in the attic for decades. I cannot imagine Pure Coffee garnering any compliments. I almost never say this about a fragrance because I know everyone has their tastes. But this flanker smells like crap.
I just cannot like it.
Glad I didn't buy any more than a small sample.

Roman86

This is an alternative version of A*Men. I don't even think of coffee when I smell this despite what the name suggests. It's not a bad scent by any means I just think you can find better within the house of Mugler.

Slutburt

Pure Grapefruit would be killer

perfumecritic

Dear Clarins, I wish I loved this one more. It starts out so promising but it just fades and fades; all of its rich coffee nuances quickly disappear and the entire scent goes surprisingly quiet : ( Instead of bringing out another variation on Amen, how about launching some parfum, extreme, or absolute versions of the existing classics. I'm still looking for my powerhouse coffee/chocolate blend. Love, Marlen

JPP001

On initial spray I like the scent, but dry down on my skin it turns into a sweet, chocolate, powdery mess. I will mark this down to my body chemistry. A nice scent, just does not work for me.

BIBLEBOY

Nice, softer offset to the original.

Hastey

Beautifully crafted with a blast of roasted coffee, dark chocolate and patchouli. The woody background becomes evident upon dry down and unfortunately the coffee and chocolate notes take a back seat. If these notes lasted longer, it would be right up there with Pure Malt and Havane.

Having said that, it’s still a lovely fragrance that needs a top up during the day if you want it to last all day with the coffee being the dominant note. For me this is something I would wear out to dinner, so it doesn’t bother me, plenty of longevity.

Morning magic in a bottle that lasts all day long. I prefer this than the original "A*Men" as it has the same vibe but is not as harsh. This is much more of a user & people friendly version of "A*Men" and I am glad that i managed to get my hands on two backup bottles, as I shall be using this a lot during these colder months.
I get a nice coffee with the Thierry Mugler DNA. This is great for use when standing by the fireside sipping some fine liquor amongst friends with great conversations. Or at a hotel bar for that matter. It is great for all occasions during the colder months of the year.

blumeprinz

Pure Coffee makes me feel like I often read more literarily rich offerings than Harry Potter. Hunkered down in an overstuffed armchair, a furrow in my brow, contemplating the meaning of life within the pages of a classic.

Allow me to explain. This Mugler composition has a "bookish" character. There's a touch of sophistication about it that I can only begrudgingly admit comes from the vetiver mingling with everything else. That vetiver with which I have a love-hate relationship.

Upon first wearing, Pure Coffee felt too similar to A*Men to justify the TJMaRoss blind buy. It's precisely their similarities that made me fall in love with the coffee-dominant flanker. Pure Coffee is the clever button-down cardigan to original A*Men's obnoxiously patterned (but oh-so-comfy) cowl neck sweatshirt. Either way, Mugler patchouli has never let me down.

Armed with the original A*Men, Pure Coffee, and Ice*Men, and Kryptomint on the way, I fear I'm becoming one of those Mugler fanboys who has to own every flanker.

Now excuse me while I crack open a book and pretend to be smarter than I really am.

mmcdonald36

Just smells like a watered down version of A*Men. The "tar" note in A*Men already has coffee vibes in my opinion, so I find this flanker to be completely unnecessary. If you want a coffee fragrance that actually smells nice and smells like coffee, get Atelier Cologne Cafe Tuberosa or Montale Intense Cafe.

whitewolf

I'm a woman and I just bought this perfume, because I am a huge Thierry Mugler fan. The smell is very dark and sophisticated, and suitable for fall / winter. And yes the scent reminds me much of those childhood winters. I think it would go well with a young man who is warm, charming and intelligent.

jahn99connor

Great compliment getter. Coffee Woody and sweet.

A6Trinity

I have nothing but great things to say about this fragrance. It's such an abominably underrated member of the Angel Men family. If you asked me if I wanted a less abrasive, more wearable Angel Men with a strengthened coffee note, I'd say, "Hell yeah, sign me up." That's what you get with Pure Coffee.

It has weakened performance in comparison to Angel Men, sure. But, is that really a bad thing? I'd say no. Angel Men is pretty great if you want it to linger for 24 hours. Call me crazy, but I want my fragrances to last a reasonable amount of time. Pure Coffee lasts about 12 hours max on my skin, which I feel is pretty great. The sillage is where it should be, not too oppressive, but noticeable.

As for the scent itself, it's like I mentioned before, it's Angel Men with a strengthened coffee note. The patchouli is pretty noticeable all around. The drydown is comparable to Angel Men's.

What sets this apart from Angel Men the most is the mood it creates when I smell it. When I dawn Angel Men, it's usually party time. I wear Angel Men whenever I go to raves/parties etc. Pure Coffee, on the other hand, has a substantially different vibe to it.

To put the feeling into a scenario, imagine you're enjoying a warm beverage after Christmas dinner with family and friends. It's snowing outside, but you're nice and warm with a fire going. You hear soft piano renditions of your favorite holiday songs. All this while the sweet notes of this lovely fragrance caress your olfactory senses. That's how Pure Coffee makes me feel, and not many other fragrances evoke such powerful feelings.

All in all, I'd give Pure Coffee a 9 out of 10. It's a scent that's similar to the masterpiece known as Angel Men, while still maintaining an identity of its own. Its performance is just right for how I personally enjoy fragrances. Lastly, it evokes a strong positive feeling, which I find to be imperative when choosing what fragrances to wear. When winter comes back around, try this one out. If you're one of the many that weren't too impressed by it, try it again with different scenarios before you dismiss it for good. If you're still not impressed, go back to Axe (just kidding, you can like/dislike whatever you want).

sderoule

This is literally a 50/50 mix of Pure Malt and the original A*Men. I tested it to be sure. That's why the juice is hidden, unlike all of the others. I took it out of the rubber flask and sure enough it's pale yellow with a slightly greenish tint.

mo_iz

how about PURE TOFFEE?!!

iwhiffwaft

Picked this one up luckily at Marshall's at a great discount. Watched some youtube reviews and can't believe what it cost when it came out originally. This one is a love for me. I can't say I think it's a people pleaser though. This is one of those personal fragrances I just love for me. I want to smell this when I'm at home drinking a cup of coffee and reading a good book. This aroma is relaxing. Something cozy. The only other coffee frag I have is New Harlem.....well Rochas man too, but that one is coffee sport. Anyway, I digress. New Harlem is a pancake breakfast with a sweetness, whereas this one is the smell of coffee out of the tin. I love it, but it does smell like ground coffee. If you like that smell, it's in here. Then, it fades somewhat into a lighter no tar version of A-men. I know this fragrance falls into the Knize ten and Tuscan Leather Category of fragrances that I personally absolutely love, but isn't really a compliment magnet or one's that women are really attracted to (modern freshie). This is a good hipster scent maybe, but its just nice for personal time. I don't think its offensive or anything, just dark mellow Amen coffee. Definitely for people who like that smell and don't expect or need a lot of people necessarily attracted to their fragrance. Not an attention magnet or anything, and that's how it should be. Just a cozy coffee frag nothing more nothing less.

Kabb

My 2nd Fav Amen (after Pure Malt) A GREAT Smell that is slightly Dark and Mysterious but in a tame way. Not too overpowering. Nice Coffee Beans Vibe with a kinda smokey undertone.

Kevgeez

Great BEAST of a fragrance!

I love the Angel Man line.
Pure Coffee is in a league of its own.

Calvini

The best of them all! I've always found A*Men (and many other designer fragrances) annoyingly sweet with a synthetic aromatic vibe that I just cannot stand, but this one is deeper, calmer, and more masculine if you will, without the overly synthetic sweetness. The opening is to die for! Quite niche and even better than Intoxicated by Killian if you consider the price :)

*The coffee note is more like used grounds as opposed to morning brew though

Marcmartin

If you want the proper effect of pure coffe layer it with pure Tonka and it'll match your mind on how this should smell :) !

amirali0072000

I recently bought 2 bottles of A*Men Pure Coffee by Thierry Mugler. It was really a masculine masterpiece. A elaborate Coffee and Patchouli blend! I have never smelled such this unique perfume! The main accords are Coffee and Patchouli and both Longevity and projection are awesome. It is a perfume for Winter and Fall and is suitable for daily usage.

Rerik

Pure Coffee is all about original A*Men. It´s just a watered down version of it. I can only get a good staying power with 12+ sprays!

nszlufik

I was opposed to the fragrance from the get-go, I expected more of a tasty gourmand-ish coffee note as you get with the rest of the flankers but this was not the case. This reminded me of the expired/used coffee ground smell several hours after the freshly brewed coffee was already made. I dont want to think too hard or wait too long to let a scent become pleasant to me so I gave up on this one. It had the sweetness of the others like Pure Malt so it wouldve only made sense to expect something similar for the coffee version - a gourmandy tasty coffee note - a Mugler version of Intense Cafe or Cafe Rose without the Rose.. but that is not what you should expect by any means. Not a blind buy.

gedlive

Hi, This was a blind buy for me. I once tried original A Men at a frag shop and didn't care for it much.
I frequent Starbucks, and we love the rich smell of coffee. I thought if they could capture this in a fragrance it would be great. I think I learned that it's not really possible.

The opening blast of Pure Coffee is harsh, and I was thinking, I'm giving this away. The coffee smell is like smelling a container of cheap instant coffee, at best.
The strong cheap coffee note just lasted 10 minutes, and it becomes a nice sweet smelling casual fragrance, like the original. If you want to know the real notes in this you have to look at the original A Men, I get the caramel, milk, honey, some nice spices like coriander, white floral nuances, and some warm balsams like benzoin. After 30 minutes the coffee just blends in with everything else and it's hard to pick out.

I'm liking it more and more with time. It's a sweet dessert fragrance, but it's mature and has nice contrasting notes that go great together, like patchouli, with milk, Carmel and coffee. It is a pleasant comfort scent for sure, a very enjoyable gourmand.

Rating: 8.5/10

God bless you. John 3:16.

I purchased TMPC a month ago at Macy's. I love the fragrance. The smell of coffee mixed with TM infamous A*Men patchouli base formula is just delicious. I really love it. On the downside it only lasts 2 or 3 hours on me. It's starts out beast mode just to end up in trembling puppy mode 2 hours later. Too bad.

I also purchased Pure Malt and Pure Havanne a couple of weeks ago with similar performance. Just a little longer duration on these, about 3-4 hours. I checked their codes and the code checking website indicates these last two were produced in February 2016. What the hell Thierry Mugler? Everybody speaks of your A*Men perfumes as being dance club monsters buy nothing like that about the ones I purchased. Did you reformulate them??? Dissappointment drifts down my face. Beautiful scents nonetheless.

jays786

The best from this house.

polly golightly

shushkin

Ok, so it says its marketed to the fellas. Well, thats not fair. It should be unisex. Its such a delicious coffee gourmand that we should all get to enjoy it. Sweet but not overly so and plenty of patch. Darkly delicious. Better than New Haarlem. Moderate sillage and longevity

wesleyhclark

Lo and behold I found a tester of this stuff at a Nordstrom. No bottles for sale - just the tester! So I had a sample made.

I like the opening, I like the drydown. It doesn't especially smell like a coffee that I have ever had, but it does strongly suggest coffee. A sweet, milky sort of coffee, but a coffee nonetheless. And somehow it manages to avoid smelling like, say, I just spilled coffee on myself. It's a fully realized coffee scented perfume. Nice!

I don't like it as much as Pure Malt, but I like it better than Pure Havane, Pure Wood and A-Men.

Longevity is decent.

-------

Second wearing: Same overall opinion as before. Not much WOW! factor but I'd wear it.

carlosrafael

Very attractive fragrance. I really like that coffee smell flanked by a smoky patchouli, grassy vetiver, woody undertones, and some sweet notes in the background to balance the act. But the star is no doubt the coffee (roasted coffee bean smell, not so much the actual drink).

Apparently this fragrance has been brought back as it is being sold at Macys (where I purchased mine) and Thiery's website.

Longevity on me is about 4-5 hours but sometimes when I least expect it get whiffs of it much longer after that when I least expect it. Silage is moderate on me. However you may experience different longevity/silage (I have very dry skin).

You should try this one if you haven't. For years I have missed out on Thierry's A Men line. I have smelt them before but since I mostly buy niche fragrances (for their uniqueness) I failed to appreciate how good these A Men fragrances are. They are niche quality. In a month time I have purchased 4 and I love all of them.

Veedabestchef

Good fragrance but for the price and discontinued too expensive. I smell coffee but not heavy and doesn't last for time like other angel men fragrance. Wouldn't buy again unless a decant. Give me about solid 6 hours. 7 out of 10. Great gourmand fragrance

xoxoMyke

A very sweet, smooth, choco-coffee liqueur over original A*Men DNA.

I prefer this one to the original A*Men as it's much more versatile and wearable. The projection and sillage still hit you and others around you like a brickwall but it's easier to digest than the original.

This one still has that screechy tar note but it goes away 1-2 hours after the initial spray.

zcsmith78

This is like A*Men light, and as a few have mentioned a much more wearable scent than the original. There is a hint of coffee, a hint of vanilla, bust mostly just a softer version of A*Men DNA. I can understand how some might be disappointed if they are coming in thinking that this is going to be a strong coffee scent, the name of the fragrance sets it up for some failure. Take the name away and just judging the scent walking in with no expectations...it really is very nice and relaxing. Not my favorite of the A*Men line, but if don't like the original because of that strong tar note, you just might want to give this one a try.

Tommy2fish

Not too sure on this one yet. I get A*men lite with a musky chocolate undertone. I sprayed generously and got maybe 2 to 3 hours before it just faded. I think the scent is great, I'll just be reapplying a lot.

Alextricity

As some other reviewers have said very well, this smells primarily of vanilla ... not coffee. I also agree with some others who say this smells like a less in-your-face version of the original A*Men, making this more wearable -- especially for girls, in my opinion. This is very inoffensive, and really, safe. I thought this would smell like a coffee shop, but I really hardly get any coffee in it, to be honest -- I find the name to be very misleading. Pure Vanilla would really be more appropriate. It's vanilla with a little muskiness, and even less of a coffee or chocolate vibe, if I could even call it that.

Not a bad fragrance in the slightest, but I'm not sure it's unique enough to warrant the $90 a bottle of it would cost. Again, I would say this is a fragrance that could be very wearable for women.

Yogamarc

Pure coffee is definitely a mocha, milky scent. I found it a little too one note for my taste. The biggest drawback was my thought that I'd love it as a candle. I would love it as a room scent. It's warm and subtle sweetness with the coffee note is very inviting - I just don't think I want to smell that way.

VanAllan

A milder member of the Pure line, with a noticeable bitter coffee note mixed in, over a smoother original A*Men (definitely less sweet and a toned down 'tar' and vanilla note), which I find extremely pleasant because it doesn't scream like other members (lower projection/longevity than PH,PM or PW), but instead it delivers an elegance and versatility for many occasions. A worthy addition to any Mugler Pure line fan and a very good coffee-patchoulli-vetiver based scent.
My personal ranking 9/10 ☣☣☣☣. Highly recommended.

adrian.meeks.35

i hope people do know this is available for the holidays now at Nordstrom's for the low,low price of $80 instead of the outrageous price's that you see online! get it while hot!!!

roll4fun

"Wow, I think I like this better than original A-men."
That was my initial impression after test spritz to arm in a mall department store. That impression continued with a followup test that resulted in a purchase from me.

This recent resumption of production is appreciated. I get a solid coffee note, sans the sweet notes of the original A-Men. While not as strong as original, still easily smelled, only moving closer to skin somewhere around the 3-4 hour point, lasting 6-8 hours on skin.

Not bad considering that my skin eats up a lot of frags within 2-3 hours. I don't get any vanilla, or milk notes per se as much as I get just a well balanced coffee with maybe a bit of cream and sugar. Over time, the coffee note fades, but never quite supplanted by the woody notes (cedar and vetiver) throughout the evolution. I get occasional sense of pencil sharpener shavings (and not in a bad way, maybe that is just the coffee notes evolving and the cedar/vetiver asserting themselves more.)

I said in the A-men review earlier that I could not stop sniffing my arm. I feel the same way about "Pure Coffee". Although not quite as strong as original, I think I'll be reaching for this latest version more often. Well done.

AMajeedQT

This is the original A*Men + Vanilla + Coffee.

It should be called A*Men Coffee (no Pure) because the coffee is not at all as dominant as the name suggests.

& again like almost all the A*Men flankers, it smells like the Original A*Men with an extra note or two.

A*Men Pure Coffee is possibly my favorite A*Men flanker. The coffee, which I wish it was stronger here, adds a rich aroma to the original A*Men smell.

However, the vanilla note is too prominent.
It's stronger than the coffee note!
What a bummer!

The longevity is moderate & the projection is strong. Just like almost all the A*Men flankers.

In short; A*Men + 2 cups of Vanilla + 3/4 cup of Coffee.

Rio Cappuccino

This one is my second most favorite coffee fragrance today.

I don´t like the original A*Men. Most of the other `pure` versions, alltogether are exchangeable. But Pure Coffee is an exception.
The first time I met Pure Coffee was 2008. A friend of mine wore this and I was always wondering how good he smelled.
But sadly the fragrance was discontinued. And suddenly I found one last bottle of the 2014 Pure Coffee for the retail price (75 Euro) in a shop.
I can´t remember the 2008 version exactly but the 2014 version is a gourmand, a masculine oriental fragrance with a good pinch of coffee, cedar and patchouli.
Big Love.

And by the way, as I have a sample of Intoxicated, I don´t get any Kilian Intoxicated out of Pure Coffee. Pure Coffee is made for men. Intoxicated is unisex.

the_badger

Lovely aromatic coffee, perfectly unisex. A less sweet version of A*men but dang it's good! Sillage is just fine, I don't want my scent to be smelled from the other side of the room but longevity could have been better.

FrozanKaos

Its very similar to original a men. but to me I prefer this one.

Mr.Whiskers

a very unique coffee scent. sometimes it should be called "pure chocolate"

Molko

I'm not a fan of this, to me it's too bitter (very similar to Amen) and masculine, while the sillage is low. I really enjoy Amen Pure lines, but I'll skip this

dylan.kohout

Seriously overhyped. Take the original A*men, and add a fleeting coffee note.... pure coffee.

yourfriendmarito

I have 2 bottles of original Pure Coffee. It is my first time trying the new reform. In my opinion, it is the same scent but more concentrated. I have showered and I still smell it. I put it 5 hours ago. I never had this performance with vintage. My advice: buy this new formulation instead of trying to find vintage.

Dayno

@Rorshach1004 - Couldn't have put it better myself! First time I tried it, the opening was exactly like the original A*Men. However, having given it a couple more wearings, I detect a dry combination of coffee and cocoa in the opening that fades away VERY quickly... now I'm left with a bitter coffee and weaker A*Men combination. Nice, but I wish it lasted a bit longer.

frafrag

10/10 but only for the strong Vintage one. The new formula in tiny box is really different, and too light.

rossyegio5

bigbz

Wow, what a terrific scent!!! The typical A*men DNA/base but with a great bitter coffee note that really cuts back on the typical sweetness these Mugler flankers sometimes possess and balances things out very nicely. There is something really captivating to me about the coffee aroma that's in this. It's not the gross, bitter coffee breath like-smell that's in Polo Double Black....but something special and wonderfully blended.

Yes, it is much more subdued, mellow and not as long lasting compared to it's counterparts. But honestly, I don't really see that as a bad thing in this case. Easily the most wearable of his A*men line-up IMHO. I think this just jumped to the head of the class as my favorite from this line....I like it even more than the former champ, Taste Of Fragrance! Really glad they ended up re-releasing this one!

Icucino

If you are looking for a wearable version of A*men this is the right fragrance for you. It's mild and likeable from the get go. However if you like to you wear fragrances to make a statement for you go for the original, it's bolder and prettier than this imo. It all depends if you prefer your "curry" mild or hot.

landshark321

While an inferior Mugler entry to Pure Malt and Pure Havane (and probably the original Angel Men, as well), Pure Coffee is still a pleasant fragrance, provided you like the A*Men DNA with the bitter coffee.

I do find it to be less sweet than the three aforementioned scents, as the main and distinguishing coffee note is a bitter coffee, rather than a breakfast, sweet coffee of a mocha or french vanilla ilk.

It's not as strong at its opening as PM/PH/Angel Men and its longevity is also inferior to these, but I still get about 8 hours with some projection, after which it becomes a skin scent. Of course the other three have great longevity for EDTs, so Pure Coffee is still above average, or at least average, for an EDT.

Certainly a welcome entry into the A*Men line, but I agree with other critics who argue that it doesn't merit its earlier hype. PM and PH are definitely the standouts of the line for me.

8 out of 10

FTW Nose

I havent had much time to wear this yet, but it is a great AMen flanker.

My Score 8

Rorshach1004

I wasn’t too impressed with this one. I was expecting some intense, sweet, complex and delicious coffee notes, but what I actually got on an initial spray was the original A*Men. That’s nice, but where was the coffee? After a couple of minutes letting it settle down on my skin I could detect the harsh and bitter smell of instant coffee rind. It was a severe, dry coffee note, not the creamy delicious gourmand that I was expecting from a quality fragrance house like Thierry Mugler at all. After twenty minutes on my skin this not particularly pleasant coffee note was completely gone, replaced by a watered down version of the original A*Men. An hour later there was nothing left on my skin at all. There was no coffee, no A*Men, nothing, it had completely gone. I’d have to pass on this one, and that's why it's so important to sample these fragrances before buying a full bottle. The coffee note on Pure Coffee is very brief and not particularly pleasant, and the remaining scent DNA of original A*Men is nowhere near as intense and doesn't last anywhere near as long as the much superior original. Try before you buy on this one.

psebi101

The coffee in the beginning smells more like caramel frappuccino. When this is gone, it smells a lot like the original A*men dry down, but shorter lived. I like it, but I wouldn't buy a bottle.

Scent: 7/10
Longevity: 7/10
Projection: 6/10

Nuhgwin

Picked this up at The Bay with the quickness. Instant buy, not letting it slip out of my reach, and there was only two boxes left. My A*Men collection is perfect now. Beautiful A*Men DNA with the coffee note amped up just a bit and the tar note toned down. I PERSONALLY find this more wearable than the original. Projection and longevity of this beauty is just a tad bit lower than A*Men, no biggie.

Edit: OHH MAN, this is absolutely perfection on my skin. DEFINITELY TOP 5 FOR WINTER.

mrcontinental

This will be short and sweet. I ordered a new bottle of Pure Coffee and compared it to my original bottle. I alternated them for one week and cannot tell one bit of difference.

I ordered another bottle as well. Don't believe the reformulation hype.

Arabian Knight

Have you ever sipped a mug of coffee which you subsequently found was not rinsed properly and had some residual washing up liquid slime along the rim?

Imagine how that smells for a second. The dark, charred bitterness of instant coffee and the perfumed tang of squeaky soap bubbles.

If you think that's pleasant, then rejoice, you will probably like this.

I, on the other hand, was reminded of the dry down in Histoires de Parfums "1969", of which I have gradually come to despise. That soapy patchouli and coffee combination just makes me gag.

Not for me.

hamed perfumer

Please explain about new one longevity and sillage !
Is it really very long lasting and enormous ???

Buysblind

Never smelled the original Pure Coffee, but I recently got a bottle of the new one. It's like a smoother, toned down version of the original A*Men with less tar and patchouli and a little coffee thrown in for good measure. Honestly, I was expecting a stronger, richer coffee note than what I'm picking up on. In fact, I think A Taste of Fragrance does the coffee thing a lot better--it's darker, stronger, and more realistic. Just the way Pure Leather only minimally included leather and was very similar to the original in a lot of ways, Pure Coffee only includes a small amount of the headlining note and is a little disappointing in that regard. It still smells good, so I appreciate that, but I wanted more coffee. I'm giving this a lukewarm, tepid thumbs up.

Cobray

Just got my edition of the new release today! Smells very relaxing not in ur face like the original Amen or pure malt 2009 version but it seems to linger for a little while. **note** i havent really tested/worn it yet just tried 1 spray on my wrist and its very nice so far.

My only question is if everyone elses new bottle has a slightly different batch code underneth there bottle?? I have a 7 digit code that doesnt pick up in the data base anyone else have checked there new bottles??

Dark-Roasted Coffee, Cedar, Musk & Patchouli...

First of all... I have never smelled the original Angel Men, so I can't comment on the comparisons, but smelling this for the first time, I get a dark-roasted, almost burnt coffee and patchouli combination, I can detect a chocolate note in the background (could be the patchouli-musk combination) and also lavender (could be the coffee, patchouli and vetiver combination). I have heard that in this the coffee note of the original has been brought into the foreground (whilst keeping the same original 'vibe' as A*Men). It's a very nice scent, very pleasant to my nose... and after a while, it gets softer and stays close to the skin (mostly as a cedarwood, coffee and patchouli combination).

I don't find it too cloying either, it has moderate sillage and longevity, drying down to a skin scent within a few hours (so maybe not the beast that A*Men was in that department). It's pretty enjoyable and can be worn almost year round in my opinion.

Pure Coffee has definitely grown on me, and I love the combination of notes here. To me it's a dark and sweet creation (a heavy roast, with no added cream), just how I like to take my coffee!

SmutRavageur

Had this one for a while, but lately I've been wearing it every day recently! I love it! Out of all the flankers (minus Pure Wood, which I haven't smelled yet) of A*Men, it's neck and neck with Pure Havane -- for me -- right now as the best.

With the first spray, I got a big blast of caramel mixed with coffee. I haven't read through many other reviews, but caramel seems to be a major player in this. (Yes, caramel is a big note in the base A*Men original fragrance, but it's a loudmouth extrovert in Pure Coffee!) There's some woods in there, too, but the woody note is unsurprisingly overshadowed by the caramel and the coffee. The notorious A*Men-made-famous tar note must have been omitted, as I'm not getting it.

A*Men Pure Coffee makes me want to kick back and flip open a good non-fiction crime/history book, as this fragrance is one for the ages. I've heard it dubbed 'overhyped' often, but as of this morning I can tell you that my nose is saying the hype for Pure Coffee is well deserved.

Shaheen

This is my favorite of the A*men flankers, and also my favorite winter fragrance. Emphasizes and amplifies the coffee and chocolate notes of the original A*Men, while omitting the tar note.

mrcontinental

I have the original and ordered the reissue. My intent is to use the reissue, just in case it has been reformulated, and continue to preserve my bottle of the original.

I look forward to being able to wear the reissue with reckless abandon. Once it arrives and if it's the real deal I'll order another, if supplies last.

Definitely one of the finest fragrances ever!

tige60

Posting by Xanovia (below my post) is absolutely CORRECT. The 2014 version of TM Pure Coffee is exactly the same as the original version...keep in mind that it isn't uncommon for older bottles of fragrance to change to varying degrees...I compared my properly stored and barely opened bottle of the original version directly to the 2014 version and there were negligible differences between the two...and yes, some eBayer's will indeed say anything to keep their prices over-inflated. The 2014 version of TM Pure Coffee is pretty much exactly the same as the original version of TM Pure Coffee...and therefore, I love them equally the same.

pjd1234

Yup coming back 9.24.14 i missed this last time not again. Im reading all the reviews here regarding the new reformulation i really have to try it before i can judge it usually as we know re forms are almost to always bad than the original i just hope its not that bad i guess well just have to wait as tbis one is not release in the us yet.

neilpatel64

Confirming post below that Pure Coffee is coming back on 9/24/14 Online on their website only. Might have to get two bottles ;)

evolutionx11

Just notified by muglerusa...coming back online for sale September 24, 2014!!!!

Refxo

Ha ha. It's easy to explain, for £ 50 you purchased the bad and wrong one, the reformulation!
So, try the ORIGINAL formula that is strong as hell, and amazing, and beautiful!
I'm talking about the formula of 2008.... that was stopped.
It is (the 2008 formula) now considered a masterpiece. The same T. Mugler on Pure Coffee had said that was the best flanker of A * Man.
But T. Mugler today is no more, he sold the brand! The reformulated scent now costs less, but it is totally changed and diluted, a shame.
Go for the "vintage" one, You'll find a paradise.

louisminaj

Like...... What? Is this the juice everyone has been raving about? Was so excited to see this to be released in the UK so I snatched a bottle for the £50 that they were asking for and have to say I'm disappointed!

A*men is one of my favourite fragrances but this one is just like bleh! I detect only a small trace of coffee, with the core pillar of the original juice. It smells a lot weaker though with not as much power! The only difference with this one is the patchouli is so so much stronger to the point it's a tad sickly.

I'm just severely disappointed with this scent as I was expecting so so much more because of the hype, but all I got was a watered down A*men with the slightest trace of coffee. Not worth the money I paid. I if I could return it, I really would!

Overall, a thumbs down, watered down A*men with little lasting power and no projection.

Will stick to my A*men.

frafrag

Tried the new version, cheap and lightweight. The new Pure Coffee is not the same perfume, also the type of box is not the same. Anyone who says otherwise is anosmico and blind, or is in bad faith...
I'm for the original one. Reformulate is always imitate and copy.

kida2010

Right long story short, bought a bottle of this from the UK website 2014 release. I have a sample of the 2009? version ive had for years. It's EXACTLY the same, no difference at all, wouldnt surprise me if theyve used the same juice. I'm still unimpressed and not a fan of it at all. The coffee is very minimal and what you actually smell is a lot of patch, vanilla, musk etc. with a strong relation to all the previous amen's.
Nothing special and certainly not PURE coffee at all.

warlockss

i dont care what type of packaging it comes in . i just want a bottle or bottles of it at a reasonable price , i just want to be able to buy this on fragrancenet or similar for a great price . ive seen it making a comeback on ebay with sellers in the uk offering it .

Ovaltine Jenkins

With a name like Pure Coffee, I had an initial set of expectations that this would be a coffee dominant scent. But coffee is only small part of the equation here.

I got an initial burst of sweet, creamy coffee that stayed close to the skin for 15-20 minutes and then went away. But during that time, the scent at arm's length was dominated by musk, patchouli and vetiver. This combo stayed through the drydown and was quite pleasant.

Pure Coffee did not meet my expectations for a coffee note. But it exceeded my expectations overall.

ThEnAuGhTyPrOf.

The licorice totally SPOILS this one for me personally. Never was a licorice fan........ Other than that, it has that similar intriguing DNA of A*men... I am pleased with the sillage myself. This one doesn't need to a beast-like!

jovejove

A heard a something from a little birdie that you might be able to find Malt, Coffee and Havane again in the fall...but just a rumour ;)

chweintr

You are late, weaving through traffic, when you feel a sneezing fit coming on -- you desperately feel around under the chair for a tissue, receipt, anything to catch the sneeze.
Amazingly, you come up with a napkin. You steal a glance at it and notice a slight discoloration. You are in a beggars-can't-be-choosers type of situation here so you are not about to be picky, but you do want to make sure the stain isn't anything too gross - or toxic, so you press it lightly to your face and sniff...
It smells like stale coffee. More precisely, stale Dunkin Donuts coffee - oversweet, vaguely caramel-ic, toffee-ish? ... It isn't nauseating but it smells nothing like fresh brewed coffee or the espresso you've grown to love. It is safe for a sneeze but not to bottle.
Pure Coffee is like that for me - It has an artificial scratch-and-sniff type of smell, more reminiscent of coffee liquor or coffee sucking candies than coffee shop. It is sort of an approximation of coffee. As if someone who is really a tea drinker has been given the task of concocting...
Seitan bacon anyone?--

The dessert-y angle might have worked, but there is something acrid about this, compromised -- that makes it smell more like coffee residue than coffee anything else. Here I think the need to retain the brand, the DNA, gets in the way of what might have been interesting.

I have to agree with others: this isn't as beastly in sillage as the other A*men flankers- it's quieter, and sits closer to the skin. But it is quite elegant doing so! I am a coffee-drinker, and the scent of a freshly-brewed pot is definitely nesting within the blend- if you know what to "look" for... It is a rich, bitter-sweet, oriental-gourmand with a smooth drydown and the signature A*men accord in the base. I use it only very-occasionally as it's becoming harder and harder to acquire as time passes. Good to the last drop! (I pray I never run out!)

yourfriendmarito

I own all line of Angel Men and I was lucky enough to find 2 new bottles of Pure Coffee last year. It is the weakest of the line and sits pretty close to the skin. I do not understand why sillage is noted as enormous on the table above. It is a great composition with a strong note of coffee at the beginning. After this coffee note sits down and you have the same drydown of Angel Men. I prefer original Angel Men over Pure Coffee. The hype is overrated according to me.

Grottola

Strangely enough, I wasn't a big fan of this one when it first came out. However, over time (and I guess as I become more of a habitual coffee drinker), I realized just how great it was. No, it doesn't capture the essence of freshly brewed coffee as I had wished it would, but Pure Coffee is still probably the best coffee fragrance that I know of. I should have bought a bottle when I had the chance. Just luscious coffee, chocolate, and caramel that lasts for ages. Bueno.

Riobard

My DNA screams CoFFee!!! And this one fits me beautiful! !

zaetown

Quality TM juice has a niche vibe for sure. The coffee and chocolate is done much better in this than the original a*men, last a long time and projects like a beast so I have to be easy on the trigger, overall great fall winter scent.

AZ

Very nice sugar coffee frag. That what is missing in the orginal AMen imo

Bigsly

I'm not sure what it was about this one, but my guess is that a musky vetiver/cedar led me to find it too harsh. The coffee comes across as old, dried up grinds with that harsh element added. I think if it had the same gourmand base as A*Men and some of the other flankers it would have been something I would have liked, but as things stand I can only imagine that I would have liked it to some degree if the vetiver (and possibly cedar as well) had been replaced with the usual amber, patchouli, styrax, etc. base.

UPDATE: I acquired an official sample and now (years after the first time I tried it) the smell is not too rough/harsh. And it smells very nice. However, I detect little if any development after a short period of time and it doesn't seem to have much dynamism (unlike the original A*Men). If this was priced at the Bogart Pour Homme level, I'd buy it in a second. At current prices (for the re-release) I can't justify a purchase, though I intend to sample again to be sure, perhaps in a few weeks. I'll update again if I think there are any new perceptions to report.

UPDATE #2: Another wearing. After a couple hours it's almost like an incense note emerges, which is nice, but the dynamism is still minimal. At $30-40 per 100 ml, I'd buy it, if there was any chance of supply drying up, but I can't bring myself to spend $90 when it's just not that great. I'd rather wear my $15 Jacomo Rouge, for example

Jwhdz1

Love this stuff! Sweet but not too sweet..reminds me of walking into a neighborhood cafe where the bittersweet scent of fresh coffee, caramel mochas and chai tea lattes meld with that of fresh baked confections like sugar cookies, chocolate croissants and eclairs which completely envelop you as you enter the door! It's absolutely delicious and the longevity of this fragrance is just incredible! Sprayed it on at 6:00 AM this morning, it's now 9:00 PM, and it's still going strong!

03147

Now is 2013,i am still able to get the 1.5ml tester at low price. As i am looking foe a fall winter coffee perfume, i decided to get 20 1.5 ml due to the positive comment here and youtube . But after applying it, i felt like ,oh damn ,it smells like my mother, i then gave it to my mother, and she loves it, finally the story of me and a*men ends.........

firsttime

When coffee combines with patchouli the result is...
You're in the coffee shop and waiting for a cup of your fav coffee, when it serve, you're not eventually drunk but you just smell and then try to taste it for a bit and ummmm... I forgot it's not a glass of wine! Haha
All I've explained just the first impression when I first sprayed, and yes! It's not too over explain! I sprayed from 7.00am till now 20.00pm it still like Im in coffee shop.
Long lasting, not too sweet and little musculine (or it's just on me?)

8.5/10 for now this is not the greatest one but the time will tell here's the greatest coffe scent.

P.S. This one is rare and hard to find. If you found it don't let it get away...mark my words.

warlockss

i want this so bad and to make it discontinued is CRIMINAL . you are nose blocking this fragrance against me from owning it and smelling it and potentially getting milfs with it . COME ON THIERRY MUGLER PUT THIS BACK INTO PRODUCTION FOR CHRISTS SAKE .

al.to

After all it does not worth an half of A*men original!
The top note coffee is very bitter and dusty, real roasted.
but after that there in nothing interesting.
boring musk and cedar.
right price? half of A*men
overpriced!
go for A*men it is more colored greedy and attractive.

7/10

Alex Souza

Sem dúvida esse é o perfume que conheço com as notas de café mais agradáveis,são muito claras com um toque delicioso de caramelo,é melhor A*Men de todos em minha opinião,pena ser tão raro.Nota 10 para essa fragrância!!!

alexandra tirdea

hello, can somebody tell me were can i worder pure coffee...i try to find it on every site..but nothing, if someone have an ideea please tell me, thank you

hornetz

After an extensive review on this one I find the patchouli notes too strong that muffle the coffee. The start smells strong and the coffee is stale and stuffy. The dry down is like a signature Mugler base which is always rich and rewarding. However, there are many other coffee based scents out there that achieve a better balance; take 'Very Irresistible' or 'Jo Malone Black Vetiver' or 'Armani Attitude'. To some degree they have the coffee notes and is more wearable. I can't really find a reason or weather to wear this one. Had high hopes for this, What a disappointment!

EnglishCountryGarden

Angel with a mocha latte. I smell Angel, (of course), nice and sparkly, with coffee drifting in and out with little wisps of chocolate. Probably the sort of scent you would associate with John Travolta's portrayal of the Angel "Michael". A tasty little gourmand, a bit of a cheeky wry smile on application and a rustle of white feathers. Surprisingly Nice. I would probably follow a guy up the high street a few yards if he were wearing this. But I could be distracted by a huge cinammon bun too.

jasonx

This is one of the best coffee scent in the market both niche and designer

kida2010

It totally pains me to write this because i really wanted to love this one and was hoping it had earnt its hype status!
Sadly not, I'm cannot believe how some people are amazed by this and making it out to be a strong coffee fragrance??
Basically its almost identical to A*Men but with a few minutes worth of coffee at the opening which disappears pretty quick.
I personally was expecting a pure coffee smell on its own based on what people have said not just 95% A*men with a hint of coffee.

If you wanna know what coffee smells like simply make a strong black fresh coffee and breathe in that lovely tobacco chocolate aroma. If someone could bottle that it would be worth buying!

NHIndian24

How does this compare to polo double black? Because it seems to share some similar notes, other than the coffee of course. Just curious because although I like double black, the pepper note in it is quite strong, which I don't really like...

grampz

Of all the flankers this is easily one of my favourites. I get that it doesnt last as long and that it is not as loud as the others, for me that works making it a little more versatile in different situations. The coffee note is bitter sweet (this flanker is not as sweet as the others but still pretty sweet in my opinion) mixed with the original A*men, patchouli is definately there and the dry down i get a hint of slight musk and definately vanilla, very close to the skin, for an Amen fragrance I get about 6 hours on this one (most others 8+) so yeah its a little weaker but like i said its easier to wear to work or casual outtings as it is prett safe in my opinion. Great scent, love it! I might be a bit biased because i enjoy TM frags but i give this one a
8.5/10.

Jackfusion

My first impression:

compared with the Taste of Fragrance, this is weaker and does not have a note of pepper that feel very present in the latter. The sum of coffee with your single note patchouli and sweet musk, reminds me quite the Dna of the traditional A * Men. It would be an A * Men diluted (less sweetness and power) and with a higher dose of coffee. Good perfume, but does not overcome the traditional nor the Havane.

keffy

This is a powerful fragrance, like the name said, its PURE COFFEE in a bottle, it has the Angel Men dna and it still lasts for quite a while, dont waist $200-$250 for this becus it was selling $60 on fragrancenet.com but they ran out now. Hoping for a re-release.

garett

First is , that i might not want to smell like someone spilled coffee on me and it might be they ask me , what happened ?? have you started working in some coffee warehouse ?? Still i dont care , but the fact that coffee note also disappears in some minutes makes it having no place in my collection.I will give it an ignorant miss always.Give us A*men pure scotch , or glenlivet or something rather hahaha

nattonline

Again, I think my comment is pretty much like everybody else. I tried this once and it's basically A*Men with a shot of coffee added. A mixture of green coffee and dark roasted coffee beans that is. Sweet honey/condensed milk and patchouli are hard to miss. It's energizing and unique indeed, but if you are not a fan of A*Men, it's going to be hard for you to open up to this one too. I like it, not love. I can see myself wear this and Pure Shot but not on regular basis.

ricardodt

On my skin the coffee note disapears in minutes after the sprays, but I like so much this fragrance.

bigjakeriz

This is a warmer more coffee version of A*men. The same tar note on top. Just with more coffee. Not a big fan. I prefer New Haarlem over this any day.

shoguns2480

WARNING! WARNING! THIS IS A 10 MINUTE SCENT AT BEST! THIS IS NOT JUST MY OPINION, BUT THAT OF THE ENTIRE FRAGERENCE COMMUNITY! As a die-hard fan of Amen and all its flankers I feel a certain love for all Mugler fragrances, and this one is no different,I do love Pure Coffee! However the truth is the truth! Smells like pure malt with the whisky replaced with coffee. That’s it! No more , no less! Longevity? There is none. I can smell fragrance’s I wore yesterday after showering after spraying this and waiting 5 minutes. This is very sad as the scent is very nice...and since New Harlem smells like the trash can at IHOP our choice are limited when it comes to a good quality coffee gourmand fragrance.

gzalvares

COFFEE disappears after a few minutes !!!!

LuckyStar1

Mixed this with the new A*MEN Taste Of Fragrance and it intensifies Pure Coffee 100%....wow

Redpula

guys i just discovered how this will smell better. rub an unscented lotion in areas where you will wear it. results: given that pure coffee is mild but with over lotion it is better scented, fragrance last longer and more potent. i am more and more falling in love with it and appreciating its character despite weak sillage and longevity. One of the best Quiet Man I smelled. Again, I also like it being layered with Emporio Armani White for Him. mild lemon mild coffee, great combo.

Redpula

The first time I spray it, I knew I would love it. Why? its coffee, it is pleasant and its very unique. No cloying. It may be an AMen light at first sniff in my skin but seconds after, a delightful coffee comes out but not too bitter.
It may not have the longevity and sillage compared with other fragrances but 2 hours of heart notes is fair enough considering its wonderful mild scented dry down that stick close to my skin. Plus its a hard to find perfume in my place and even online. So I am lucky to have found this Quiet Man and would love to savor every moment wearing this frag.
I tried one time, out of curiosity, layering Emporio Armani White for Him and I got amazing results on combine scents, a quiet man of a lemon and a quiet man of coffee. Both poor longevity but both wonderful top notes sillage then close to skin dry down. I simply love their fusion/teamwork.

Bitter-Fresh..Winter-Summer.. Elegance!

sillybilly

Hot Coffe, as in, Sexy Coffe [corny, I know]. Amen coffe is Delicious and addictive like drinking the thing its self. I tend to be allergic to Mugler, but this one is works. Thumbs up!

Heverton

Opens up with a pure dry coffee note, right in your face, and minutes later the scent almost completely disappears, getting close to the skin.

MarryTheNight

Mmmmmmmmmm i want a nice big cup of creamy irish coffee everytime i smell this. This is sexy and i find that quite strange because the prospect of smelling like i had just bathed in coffee seemed quite strange to me but as a devotee to Thierry Mugler i bought this anyway, knowing that i was bound for something different and monumnetally interesting (something i love about Mugler's fragrances). Everything just works together, the Patchouli is sweet and intense but not heavy and cloying and the vetiver gives the fragrance further warmth and even more character. I think women could pull off this fragrance, my roomate wears it and it smells sexy on her so yeah- give this a go ladies!

Ikosmajovich

Really coffee! Wonderful! At the first moment hard a little, but in a harf an hour the aroma changes, becomes closer to skin.Rather long-lasting.

raverdudes

Could anybody please tell me where I could find this? I am a HUGE fan of Thierry Mügler's fragrances, and I've looked for this, like, EVERYWHERE. Needless to say, I have not been successful at it :(

John E Buoy

How disappointing..... I had high expectations of this, as I love A*MEN, as well as the Pure Malt.
The initial burst is great, but it dies down to nothing very quickly, whereas A*MEN lasts all day on me.

weegee

Oddly arousing. For me it's like sitting in a coffee shop with the man my heart most desires.

I define a good cup of coffee as hot, dark, bold and aromatic. I want my first lip-burning sips to wake me up and make me pay attention - and this fragrance does just that. If the initial boldness remained it would be just too much. The drydown is comfortable, maybe even a little bit on the cuddly side.

The subtle drydown lasts 6-8 hours on my skin, 12-18 hours on my hair and 24 hours on clothing.

kerrso99

Very disappointed in this, "dont believe the hype". As soon as you put this on you get the blast of coffee and thats it.It fades very quickly and leaves not much. nobody commented on it (unlike A for men) and i could not even smell it myself. wont be buying again.

masboi

perfect...

that's all i can say

sadly it is limited edition :(

BIG

Initially i had high hopes, but i was disappointed because i expected it to be more expressive. I thought i'd get a fresh ground coffee beans smell or fresh roasted coffee smell type of scent. Pure coffee smells like arabica coffee, it's deep and maybe vaguely bitter, but then transitions to a creamy dark chocolate smell. Longevity is about 6-7 hours on me.

jonr951

Hello all you beautiful people in Fragrantica Land!!! How are you today? Wonderful I hope!!! So I am hoping someone out there can help me out with this!! I am dying to find a sample of Pure Coffee!! Dying!! I sampled it once when it first came out and I dont remember it at all. I have heard nothing but great things about Pure Coffee!!! People say its AMAZING!!! I am dying to experience it!!! It is so hard to find now!!! Its like its nonexistent!! Bottles that I have found are far above the original asking price. I dont remember it very much at all so I would love to test it again first. If anyone can send me a sample, you have no idea how wonderful you would be!! I would be extremely greatful and appreciative!! You have no idea how much it would mean to me!! I have a sample collection as well and would love to find and send you something you would like in return. If anyone can help, please oh please oh please and thank you thank you thank you!! I hope you all have a beautiful day. Peace&Love- Jonathan R.

falovalo

I'm not at all a coffee drinker, but I love the smell of a pot of it brewing. That being said, I don't like coffee notes in fragrances. It just never feels right. In Pure Coffee, the coffee note gives me an impression of sweat when it mingles with the other notes. Not to mention that it is STRONG.

Cassiano

Just from the begginnig it reminds me A LOT Blue Sugar. But, it looks like a sour + coffee, while Blue Sugar resembles sugar hot syrup + coffee.

The blinding opening notes evolve very fast and turn the aroma much more creamy and calm, making the scent comfortable and vanilla-ish (although the vanilla note doesn’t exist on the pyramid list). At this point, the coffee is not noticeable anymore.

On my skin it stays too close, which I didn’t expect since it is an “Angel”. I thought that the aroma would stays powerful during all the time but I got disappointed at this part.

Nonetheless, it is a delicious perfume and its lasting is amazing! More than 12 hours on my skin.

saint2006

It's More than just Coffee. It's a PERFECT cup of coffee! This is a Signature scent for me. If you THINK about how ADDICTING coffee is. IMAGINE how people REACT to a person that smells like it. It draws people, and tons of compliments.
It maybe a bit overpowering at first, so i recomend only one spray to start. It lasts all day. I wore this during the summer, but its more of a fall, winter frag.

BEAUTIFUL Gourmand!

Adriana_87

Simply coffee nothing else,i am a coffeemaniac so i love it.Makes me wanna drink it..

megannsmom

As a woman who doesn't really believe in the idea of "mens" and "womens" fragrances (who cares? If it smells good, WEAR IT!) and a lover of coffee, (all day, every day, winter and summer, have a big mug here with me now) I couldn't wait to try this one. I got my hands on a large decant today and eagerly spritzed......then jerked my head back with a "whoa!" because it was so strong and yes, masculine. Sharp and bitter but not unpleasant...just very manly. I was disapointed at first, this was NOT what I had wanted. Then it calmed down, in came the musky creaminess to mingle with the delicious coffee note, and I became a happy girl! Still not as good as my HG Coffee scent; New Haarlem, but yummy just the same. I think I will try mixing it with a bit of CP Vanille Coco and see what happens....

pitbull friend

This stuff is great. Delicious spicy coffee on me that just lasts and lasts. And I covet a full-size one with the adorable rubber flask. So sad that it's a limited edition & already getting pretty hard to find. I'm thinking the demand is such that Mugler will have to bring it back, won't they? Please, please?

orbicon

This is a beautiful gourmand scent. The top notes are pure coffee with caramels. Sweet and delicious. The dry down is almost identical to A*Men, but more subtle with less staying power.

Kultakutri

It's a wonderful scent but I smelled the coffee in question for around 0.03 seconds. Then there was caramel with those crispy bits, lots of maple syrup, some burnt cat hair and.... cilantro. After an hour or so, I thought there was lots of orris root and a touch of amber. I would call it Pure Cake. (I'll work on the recipe, it will be one of those cakes with calorie count that could heat up a medium-sized town for several days.)

eduardomm

exactly like the name: pure coffee!
why to smell like coffee! strong and real coffee???
i dislike this one...

acc

I find Thierry Mugler fragrances surprising. They always start with fierce and displeasent notes, then become addictive and sweet.

Pure Coffee starts with sharp, bitter and displeasent notes. For 2 hours, i smell extremely strong coffee and woody notes.

After that 2 hours of displeasent notes, the addictive heart notes start to get noticed. Very sweet and delicious coffee makes me want to smell it again and again.

Drydown stays very close to skin, it is almost impossible to be detected. But it lasts very well for 10 hours on my skin. So, the life of the scent is 12+ hours on me.

The opening notes are a bit harsh and displeasent. I guess some people will find it unwearable because of those opening notes. But once you reach the drydown, it is worth that displeasent opening notes.

The drydown of the fragrance is as precious and hard to find as the gold in the ads.

thomkallor

I'm so happy to see this so warmly embraced, because it warmly embraces me :) The very definition of comfort....my nose is sadly unsophisticated: all I get here is sweet rich COFFEE! Less sweet and synthetic than my beloved A*Men, but so much richer and deeper. Romantic. Soothing. I felt like a winner when I finally scored my bottle from Sak's - and it's a beauty, brown rubber with the Gold Mugler star. Too good for office wear!

coco76

i have wanted to try this one for awhile, and i don't care that it is 'meant' for men....now that i have tried it and experienced it, i think that i may actually buy it for my father. i was freaked out the first few minutes because all i could smell was sharp celery! but then the coffee smell developed and the musk chimed in....it smells like my father to me, he must drink two pots of black coffee a day! i think he will like it, he is a man who would rather discuss politics then pop culture, a man who enjoys sailing, a man who relishes the daily crossword and finding autobiographies of his favourite historical figures. my dad can be quite a serious man, but his dry wit and humour shine through...like this cologne, i think.

rebella

I´ve smelled this for the first time during this weekend and I fell in love! Strong, sweet coffe and some licorice... but not in an overwhelming way just hot, comforting and very suitable for the autumn I think. My husband have to get this and I have to steal it from him now and then...

F_A

Very nice intensive smell of strong sweet coffee - who said this fragrance is for men?:) Love it!

dgoosenberg

Smells great! Maybe a little bit overpowering if too much is applied buy it's a really nice winter fragrance.

LuckyStar1

I love A*Men and tested this and it a very nice fragrance. I can definately smell the features patchouli, musk, coffee, vetiver and cedar. It is quite different to A*Men though I find. I bought 2 bottles as it is Limited Edition.

chocolateguy

How wonderful! When pure coffee combines with darkchocolate -> A pure young modern sexy seduction. Very rich, energizing, softly sweet. A really special scent for young people. Don't miss it!

gigimarketing

I'm in love with A-Men...this is just a softer version, just with more coffee in the head...not like the original

vertigo

exactly, pure coffee & great bottle :)
but I find the fragrance too overpowering.

wakemeupalready

I'm so excited my mum just got me a bottle from the bay on her way home from Toronto yesterday. $90 a bottle !! but so worth it. I was addicted to A*men but stopped wearing it because after a few hours it started to have a sour sickly smell also a co-worker said It smelt very feminine, but this is really yummy, still a*men but with a slightly lighter creamier cleaness.

mariotgomez

To me this seems like a lighter version of A*men. The coffee notes wore off fast on me and I was left with a subtle A*Men.
