The Winchesters and the Walkers are both headed to The CW this fall, and TVLine has your first look at the upcoming prequel series in newly released trailers.
Up first, the Supernatural offshoot The Winchesters (which will be airing Tuesdays at 8/7c) centers around Dean and Sam’s parents, John (played by The In Between‘s Drake Rodger) and Mary Winchester (American Housewife‘s Meg Donnelly), and is described as “the epic, untold love story of how John met Mary and how they put it all on the line to not only save their love, but the entire world.” It will be told from the perspective of their eldest son, Dean, with exec producer/Supernatural co-lead Jensen Ackles narrating.
In the series, “John returns home from fighting in Vietnam, a mysterious encounter sparks a new mission to trace his father’s past,” per the official synopsis. “In his journey, he crosses paths with 19-year-old demon hunter Mary, who is also searching for answers after the disappearance of her own father. Together, the two join forces with young hunter-in-training Latika (Station 19‘s Nida Khurshid) and easygoing hunter Carlos (Jonathan “Jojo” Fleites) to uncover the hidden truths about both their families. Their investigation leads them to a rare book emporium, whose owner Ada (House of Payne‘s Demetria McKinney) takes an interest to the occult and could provide the missing pieces to their puzzle. But secrets run deep for both the Winchesters and Campbells, and despite the best efforts of John’s mother Millie (Legacies‘ Bianca Kajlich) to protect her son from pursuing a dangerous life of demon hunting, John and Mary are both determined to work together to uphold their families’ legacies while beginning to form a family of their own.
Walker: Independence (airing Thursdays at 9/8c), meanwhile, is set in the late 1800s and follows Abby Walker (Arrow‘s Katherine McNamara), “an affluent and tough-minded Bostonian whose husband is murdered before her eyes while on their journey out West. After crossing paths with Calian (911: Lone Star‘s Justin Johnson Cortez), a curious Apache tracker, Abby arrives in the town of Independence, Texas, where she encounters diverse and eclectic residents running from their pasts, chasing their dreams, and keeping their own secrets, including Kate Carver (How to Get Away With Murder‘s Katie Findlay), an idiosyncratic burlesque dancer with perhaps too keen an interest in Abby’s origins, and Kai (Wu Assassins‘ Lawrence Kao), a soulful Chinese immigrant who runs a restaurant/laundry and offers Abby friendship without agenda.
“Abby also literally runs into Hoyt Rawlins (Walker‘s Matt Barr), a slippery rogue, thief and con artist with a dented heart of gold who quickly eyes Abby as a mark — until she turns the tables on him. In seeking justice for her husband, Abby encounters Independence’s noble deputy sheriff, Augustus (Philemon Chambers), and his new boss, Sheriff Tom Davidson (Another Life‘s Greg Hovanessian), who she has reason to believe is a very bad man indeed. Abby and Hoyt soon find themselves precariously aligned, both seeking to uncover the truth about the identity of Abby’s husband’s killer, and vow to save Independence – a frontier boomtown where nothing is what it seems.”
The Winchester promo makes zero sense. Actually looks like a backwards version of Legacies. Why is Jensen even in it when he’s only narrating the show? I think he’s just to close to this character and universe that he can’t see a bad idea when it’s in front of him.
The narration is a mistake. Without it the show could work, with its 70s feel.
Plus Dean is dead. Stay as a producer.
Yes the Wiz , I could not agree more
Walker: Independence looks interesting. And it’s Kat, so I’ll watch it for her. She’s been one of my favorites since I saw her on Arrow.
Good luck with that supernatural prequel. The cw already had a monster fighting show called legacies. And the tvdu hard core fans just made fun of it for 4 years for being different from its previous source material.. so good luck cw with the even more hardcore fans that are the supernatural. I see now that they needed to get rid of legacies for a different version of it 😑🤦🏻♀️
Winchesters? Should have just ordered Wayward Sisters.
Walker Independence. Oh, good. A watered-down 1883.
Nobody would have watched Wayward sister. The network was smart not to pick it up.
No you’re wrong. I would have watched it. My sister would have watched it. People are still talking about it years later for gods sake.
I would have watched it as well. Jody was a stellar character, and I thought her dynamic with the girls was great. And if Donna was going to be a regular, all the better! Was the backdoor pilot a bit odd? Yeah, that didn’t do it any favors.
To be fair, pretty much any Western is going to feel watered down when stacked against 1883. That show really cranked all of its elements up to an 11-out-of-10.
While I liked the idea of a Wayward Sisters show (I like the characters), the pilot was awful and I don’t think that the show would have worked. By this point, Supernatural wasn’t run by the best people. I continue to want a good Supernatural spinoff, but for some reason, the people in charge keep failing to understand what worked about the show in the first place.
I really hope they write in a reason for The Winchesters completely going against the known canon of the original series. It’s not even just John knowing. There’s way too much here that literally doesn’t make sense.
My hope is that there’s some twist where this is tied to the multiverse stuff in the last few seasons of the original show.
Independence looks a little too much on the soapy side for me
It really doesn’t. The promo is actually good.
So Independence doesn’t really look to me that it’s too much on the soapy side? How exactly do you know what it looks like for me?
Holy sh*t that looks good!!
The Winchesters and their new friends looks like a fun time. I especially liked the long-haired dude!
Jared’s show looks fantastic as well!
Man, looking forward to the fall 🥳🥳😎
When I first saw him I was like “Is that Carlos Valdes?”
Yes!!!
I thought the same thing!
He looks fabulous.
“Walker: Independence” reminds me of “Lonesome Dove” The Series” & it’s been a while since I’ve seen a good Western. Will most, certainly be checking this out, plus I am a fan of Kate McNameria. I might give “The Winchesters” a try. But the “Walker” prequel is among my most anticipated programs.
Could you post trailers for CBS shows? Also the ABC teasers?
Neither CW show really interest me.

Not sure how to feel about John punching Mary repeatedly in the face being played for comedy.
It’s weird, because I fully recognize the fact that this kind of slapstick would be funny if it were two guys in the scene, so maybe the fact that they’re putting a woman in there could be seen as a step forward for breaking down gender roles. On the other hand, it’s a man hitting a woman in the face.
Mary doesn’t need your white knighting
Yes, that seems to be the message they are sending, which is an admirable objective.
Whether or not it works… I guess that up to everyone else to judge.
Right??
She looks to be tougher than him. She knows how to do hand to hand combat.
She’s been trained, John not so much. In up close combat at any rate, I’m sure John can handle all sorts of weapons, just not anything useful for battles against the unholy.
I’m fine with it because he’s not, y’know, abusing her, or even looking like abusing her, he’s clearly upset about the first one even. He’s just trying to help out and screwing up all over. As you say, two guys would be slapstick, two women would be slapstick, swap the rolls and it’d be slapstick (at least until he punches her in the face purposely and tells her to stop helping, like she did to him).
The Winchesters: I just don’t get the Mary and John scenario. We know the basics of them two…how they met-destined to get together-mary a hunter-john had no idea-no clue about MOL… so the only thing that makes sense, is that at the end of this series, we’ll see John get his memory erased and that to me feels like a cop-out. I don’t understand the timeline of having Dean ‘narrate’ it. Is he narrating it while alive (before he died) and if so, why wasn’t Sam helping or is he doing this after he died and was bored in heaven? I’ll give the first (and maybe the second) episode a chance though.
Walker Independence: I actually liked the look of this trailer. The Davidson’s really are a thorn in the Walker’s family. I’ll definitely be giving this one a chance.
Neither of these shows hold any interest for me. I’m surprised they’re making them at all since one would think they’d want to go in a fresh direction regarding the network being up for sale. I guess we’ll see what the viewership numbers look like. I’m sure they know more about the television business than I do, but I’d prefer to move away from ‘Supernatural’ and ‘Walker’ toward content that I’d actually watch.
I had a difficult time watching the full Winchester trailer.. so not hopeful that I’ll enjoy the show. I really like the Supernatural episodes that took us back to meet John, Mary, and even Henry. I guess I’m comparing the new characters to those actors and am just not feeling it. I’ll give the show a chance since I love Supernatural.. maybe I’ll be surprised. If not, no worries. I’ll still be pulling for the show’s success, even if I don’t watch past the premier.
Not that I don’t enjoy having Matt Barr on my TV at any time, I’m confused how this will work having him in the new Walker show. All I’m able to see is his character from the current Walker series. Maybe when the prequel premiers I’ll feel differently. It just seems like odd casting.
Wait, correct me if (and I probably am) wrong here but if Abigail is an ancestor of Cordell Walker, and her last name is Walker already and her husband was shot dead then the husband is Cordell’s ancestor as well and she is already pregnant with the next generation of Walkers. The whole thing about the show being about ancestors of Rawlins and Walkers and then oh, there’s a Davidson, is confusing. Especially since they got the same guy to play a different Hoyt Rawlins.
.
Anyway, both shows look good so I’ll be watching.
The Winchesters looks awful. I loved SPN but this has DISASTER written all over it. Plus, I agree with the others–why is Jensen narrating?? Dean is dead.
