Possible Origins Of Omega

What Are Your Theories?

Since the debut of The Bad Batch on May the 4th, the source of the most fan speculation has been the new character, Omega. With her accent, enhanced perception, and adorable mimicry of Hunter, Omega has immense potential. There is clearly more to this young one than meets the eye, however, as Tech deduced (and later confirmed) in the premiere. As she is also an enhanced clone, the Bad Batch have quickly begun to regard her as one of their own. This is especially true for Hunter, forming a parental bond with the youngling. Clearly, there is more to Omega than meets the eye, as both Nala Se and Omega herself seem to be keeping personal information about her to themselves. Here, we will examine the possible origins of this Omega.

One of the first things to establish is the age of Omega. While the vast majority of the clones age at approximately double the rate of a normal human, this is not the case for clones like Boba Fett. At this point in the timeline, Boba would be approximately 13 years old, an age that Omega could easily be as well. Is it possible that Omega, like Boba, did not receive the growth acceleration that the entirety of the clone army did? It is strange to think, but even the Bad Batch is at most 13 years old and have reached the appearance of mid-20s thanks to the Kaminoan growth acceleration.

In Attack of the Clones, we learn from Lama Su that the clones are combat ready at age 10, which accounts for how they are able to raise an army so rapidly. According to the Kaminoans, Jedi Master Sifo-Dyas approached them about cloning an army soon after the Battle of Naboo, and the first wave of troops are ready by the Battle of Geonosis, with millions more well on the way. It is unclear when Omega was cloned, but given her young age and specialized training under Nala Se, it is possible she will age like a normal human.

Omega's name seems to also be an indication of her origins. The final letter of the Greek alphabet, Omega is often paired with Alpha, with Alpha being the first letter and Omega being the end. Could her name indicate that she is the final clone of Jango Fett to be produced? If this is the case, is there an Alpha clone in the works?

In the Dark Horse Republic comic book series, there were several clones designated as "Alphas." These clones were designated prototypes and received advanced training, making them more lethal than the average trooper. The most notable of these clones, Alpha-17, who became the inspiration for Captain Rex in The Clone Wars animated series. It seems doubtful that the name Alpha would transfer into current canon in this way, unless there are several Omega clones with medical training and increased perception. While the arrival of several other Omegas to the scene would be a fascinating twist, it seems doubtful, as that would undercut the development of Omega as a character and undermine the narrative of individuality that the The Clone Wars, and especially The Bad Batch, strives for.

It is possible that Omega has been cloned from a different source altogether. As we see in The Mandalorian, Palpatine's quest to create a Force-sensitive clone has been a program for many years before the rise of the First Order and the discovery of the Sith Eternal on Exegol. With the Kaminoans being uniquely aware of Palpatine's plans regarding Order 66, it is possible that he commissioned them to try to create a Force-sensitive clone.

There has been much speculation that Omega's enhanced perception goes beyond what a normal clone is capable of and delves into the realm of the Force. Her actions in the first episode, comforting Crosshair while he struggled with his chip, sensing his approach in the hanger, and her marksmanship during their escape, could all be seen as her wielding the Force. This could also help explain why Nala Se aided in their escape. Perhaps the Kaminoans are getting cold feet regarding the Omega project and fear what the Emperor could do with this technology. Here's to hoping that Filoni is setting up the Kamino clone uprising as seen in the 2005 Battlefront II campaign in 2005.

If Omega is an "unaltered" clone of Jango, similar to Boba, it is possible that Boba himself is the "Alpha" to Omega. While Jango took Boba to be his son, perhaps the Kamioans kept Omega for themselves, seeing her potential. If this is the case, it seems inevitable that Boba Fett will make an appearance on the show, especially given how the Bad Batch seems to be headed for a life of mercenary work in the Outer Rim. Could Boba and Omega be clone siblings? Created as the first two "test" clones and to be used as part of Jango's payment?

Many fans have wanted for years for the Boba Fett vs Cad Bane The Clone Wars storyline to be completed. Originally scrapped by Disney after the buyout, this duel ultimately missed the cut to make it into Season 7 of the The Clone Wars. The Bad Batch would be the perfect place to begin to set things right with that story arc and would be an interesting character development for Boba and Omega upon learning that they are siblings.
