Falling for the Ghost of You

Rate this book
Seventeen year old Violet Mercer returns home from her summer vacation in Hawaii to discover her boyfriend's cheating on her with a friend. As if that wasn't bad enough, her mother's marrying a man she just met.

Things take an awkward turn when Violet meets her rich new stepfather, and his gorgeous son—the hot guy whom she made a fool of herself in front of earlier that day! Zane O' Connor is sexy and charming, and way out of her league. He makes her forget her ex-boyfriend even existed. But there's no way she'd ever have a chance with him...right?

Through a strange turn of events, Violet finds herself living with Zane for a month. Somewhere between the fighting and flirting, they become friends. And it isn't long before that friendship blooms into something else...something more powerful than Violet anticipated.

But Zane is hiding something from her--something big enough to tear them apart if Violet ever discovered the truth about him. Her suspicions keep her from trusting him completely. She's been burned before—is she willing to take that risk again?

As she and Zane spend more time together, Violet realizes it's too late: she's fallen for the beautiful boy with the big secret. Will she get her heart broken twice in one year—or will her love survive the truth?

For readers seventeen and older due to sexual situations and language.

I LOOOOOVE this book photo onion-1A_zpsd9635513.gif , SO much that I need cute little expressive onion heads for this review, or else I won't be able to convey the level of joy and satisfaction that I feel right now. photo onion-12_zps6a78b379.gif

THE STORY

This is the story of a girl. photo 104_0_zps5358fe65.gif Uh, I mean, this kind of girl. photo onion-86_zpse42a1d7c.gif
Her name is Violet: seventeen years old, beautiful (but doesn't know it), big-boobed (clearly every boy knows it, hence her reputation as a secret porn star); she fakes having natural brown hair color, dresses in jeans and large tee-shirts, avoids high school social activities like the plague, and has only one best friend, Lauren, who is as much of a recluse as her.

She just came back from her holidays in Hawaii where she worked as a waitress in a bakery with Lauren, and spent her free time doing leisurely activities. photo onion-99_zps968596ff.gif
So, it's in a carefree state of mind that she goes to a restaurant to meet her boyfriend for the first time after two months of separation. photo onion-76_zpsd5988651.gif

She didn't miss him that much (in fact, she didn't think of him at all), but that doesn't mean she is less shocked photo onion-16_zpse2ce6270.gif or furious photo onion-34_zps8b944503.gif , when she discovers that he cheated on her. After showing him how unforgiving she feels (rightfully so), she tries for a theatrical exit, but instead, trips over something on her way out.
Luckily photo onion-03_zpsa38ba05b.gif , she doesn't crash face first into the ground in front of everybody. Instead, she gets to have a private encounter, right by the threshold of the restaurant, with a Mister Hottie Hot Guy, who chivalrously offers her much needed help.
Too bad her fall left a split on her pants, and now her panties are showing, displaying all the cute bunny patterns on her butt for Hot Guy to see. Poor Violet.

Little does she know, the humiliation doesn't end here, since... SURPRISE! Who shows up at dinner the same day, as she meets her mother's fiancé for the first time? Hot Guy. And he is her future stepbrother. Yep.

Ladies, meet (officially) Zane O'Connor.
He is tall, dark-haired, dark-eyed, older than Violet by a few years, has an easy smile, good sense of humor, oozes sex and charisma, works as an engineer, is terribly rich and lastly, not suprisingly, he is a womanizer.
Okay, he sounds like nothing we've not encountered before, but TRULY, he is SO NICE.
And pardon me, you gotta admit that HOT AND NICE is just an ass-kicking nose-bleeding combination.

So yeah, I'm in love. photo onion-46_zps8cd36150.gif

But I LOVE Violet even more. photo onion-05_zps7462cacf.gif

Due to some circumstances, the details of which I will pass, Violet is forced to cohabit with Zane, in his luxurious home, without her mother knowing. How convenient, huh?
Never mind, this is where the REAL FUN begins. photo 101_0_zps03d0b26a.gif

THE FEMALE LEAD

VIOLET. IS. AWESOME. She is HILARIOUSSSS !!!!!! photo onion-73_zpsf97367cf.gif

She is SO effortlessly funny. She can't help being very self-conscious of her dorkiness and clumsiness, so she is always cursing her natural penchant for humiliation. However, she is completely unaware of how adorable she actually is because of it. And I absolutely ADORE that about her.
Obviously, Zane loves this side of her personality too.

Even when she doesn't speak, the voice she uses inside her head sounds deadly serious (I can imagine the kind of expression that she makes on her face, something between resigned and sarcastic). But her internal debating often is about silly hypothetical situations. It provides such a contrast with the serious tone she uses that the result is simply hilarious. photo onion-73_zpsf97367cf.gif

Plus, she has this damned cute habit (like her mother) of blurting out stupid nonsense everytime that she is nervous. photo onion-51_zpsa65f0f5f.gif

Here's one of those great memorable moments: Violet is having dinner with her mother and her future stepfather and stepbrother; she is so taken aback by Mister Hot Guy's sudden appearance, that she barely speaks. Her mother tries to make light conversation: (read at your own risk)

I know Mom is waiting for me to elaborate, but I don't. (...) I can feel her growing more and more flustered by my unfriendliness.
“Yes, she worked as a stripper in her grandmother's baker!” she blurts out.
What?!
It's so unfortunate that my mouth is full of rice right now. Why did I take such a big bite? It's taking forever to chew!
“Stripping in a bakery, huh?” Zane says with a ridiculously adorable half smile. “That's pretty awesome.”
I just keep shaking my head in a tiny mortified sort of way. “I don't... I'm not a stripper,” I stumble over my words, hideously embarassed.
Mom's eyes are huge right now.
“Oh, no!” she gasps. “Did I just call you a stripper?!”
Indeedly-doodly, Mother.

The best thing about this, is that Violet is capable of even WORSE than that.

Sometimes, in order to hide the living situation with Zane from her mother, she is forced to lie on the spot , and of course, since it's Violet, the stuff she comes up with is always absurd and nonsensical.
The poor girl has no talent for good improvisation. She has lots of imagination though, that's why she ends up sounding ridiculously dramatic. You have to be blind not to see through her lies.

For example: Violet is getting a phone call from her mother who surprises her with an early return back home:

“I'm not really... there at Jane's. Physically, I mean.” I think furiously. “What I mean is, I'm at Lauren's.”
“Oh, okay,” she says, and I can hear the puzzlement in her voice at my weirdness. “Bill, go to my apartments instead,” I hear her call.
“No, wait!” I blurt. “I'm actually spending the night. Lauren is-she's really upset. She, uh, she just found out she has a secret half-brother.”
What?
There is a long pause at my mom's end.
“Really? Wow, that's... unexpected.”
Right now I'm smacking myself in my fool head.

That girl is just an evil GENIUS.
 photo A_270_zps88e36343.gif

There is actually much more to Violet than this joking, humorous side of hers.
We have the opportunity on several occasions to witness that she's also a thoughtful, caring and compassionate person: throughout the entire story, we can see how much she values her mother's health and happiness, or how serious and dedicated she is about her part-time job as an assistant to the elderly.

Well, sometimes she can be overly concerned, especially when her best friend's interests are at stake.
I'm refering to this episode, when Violet learns that Lauren has been wronged by someone. She doesn't know the guy's identity photo onion-95_zpsb5a78580.gif , so she promptly assumes that it is one particular person who did it (whatever his name is, he looks very guilty to her). When she comes across him at school, she marches straight to him , plants herself in front of him, and threatens him in a calm, serial killer way , managing to convey through her burning stare, a full warning such as "Don't you dare hide yourself from me. I have my eyes on you from now on. Apologize to Lauren right now before I plan on murdering you in your sleep". She's very scary and protective like that.
Unfortunately, what Violet doesn't know is that she is threatening the wrong guy. photo onion-09_zps1e85c4a5.gif

Right, Violet is a girl who acts however she likes and says whatever she wants. She doesn't care about the rumors spreading around about her (there is a bunch of them). When she doesn't agree with something or worse, hates it, she demonstrates her disapproval in a colorful manner. photo onion-54_zpscd1343f0.gif
Afterward, she's like "Yeah, I'm a bitch, but you deserve it". photo onion-45_zps86bcf88c.gif

ABOUT THE STORYLINE

The storyline includes a bit of a stressful situation, consequence of a secret Zane is unwilling to share with Violet. photo onion-69_zpsa78c1c96.gif
Don't worry though, it's not something horrible, not a shocking I-am-in-fact-a-Dominant-and-you-should-run-for-the-hills-because-I-want-you-now-as-my-new-Submissive kind of secret.

I wasn't exactly impressed with The Secret issue or the last turn of events, nor entirely satisfied with the conclusion of the story. photo onion-57_zpsc7a3bc08.gif
Honestly though, I found that it was the development that mattered the most: Violet and Zane getting acquainted photo onion-91_zps9261d23f.gif , learning more about each other, becoming friends and then falling in love (not to mention Violet's tribulations which are all priceless).

 photo A_068_zps3b2bc07a.gif photo A_067_zps2ac15543.gif
Their story is one of sweet, tender love, complete with witty flirtation, funny bickering and sizzling passion.

 photo A_186_zps4a20c87a.gif

My only disappointment is the lack of explicit sex. But THAT is because I am a greedy pervert. photo onion-08_zps230d1b36.gif

Overall, it was an excellent read, the most entertaining I've had in a while, which I won't soon forget. When I do forget about it, because of time, and memory fades, it will be actually wonderful because it means that I will be able to enjoy reading it a second time. photo 100_0_zps0a5d8cf2.gif

So, until then, photo onion-02_zps6cfce1ab.gif .

Warning: Don't start reading this book at work, school or any public area. You don't want people to think you're mentally deranged when they see you laughing your ass off. photo onion-11_zpsdca66228.gif

HO.

LEE.

JESUS.

WHAT DID I JUST READ???

I need a minute here. Or two. Or maybe more.

This must be the funniest book I have ever read!

Violet
brought tears to my eyes every.freakin.time. A heroine so amazingly hilarious, selfless, oblivious to her own beauty, immensely loving. I LOVED HER. Zane complemented her banter so well that it was perfect.

But I will let you see for yourselves:

I don’t even need to look into his guilty bastard eyes for confirmation. I can’t breathe. I’m in shock. I can’t believe this is
happening. How could I not be prepared for something like this? When the mice are away, the cats will
play, right? Did I get that backwards? Oh, who cares.

*****

“I’m really sorry,” Rachel whispers, her eyes downcast. Her pretty face is wet with tears.
Aw, let’s give the sweet pretty bitch a hug!

*****

Zane's dark eyes are sparkling with humor. "Come on," he says. "It's not that bad, is it?"
"Oh, let's see." I stare up at the fancy glass ball lamps hanging from the ceiling. "I got dumped at Taco
Bill's today; fell down, split my pants, and generally humiliated myself in front of a complete stranger;
went to dinner at a snooty restaurant, found out said stranger is my future step brother; got called a
stripper, hooker, and virgin by my mother...did I leave anything out?"
"Well, I don't know. The night is still young—anything could happen." The corners of his beautiful
mouth twitch upwards. "It can only get better, right?"
I frown. "Don't say that, you'll jinx me. Now my mom will come back and blurt out how she and Bill had
kinky bathroom sex, and I'll run away before she can go into detail, and trip over that waiting carrying that
flaming dessert—he'll go crashing into the lady with way too much product in her hair, and then the whole restaurant will be on fire."

But even the romance didn't fail to choke me up. So beautifully shaped.

He squeezes my hand. "No regrets. Just live in the moment."
We stand there, knee deep in the water, holding hands. The silence is thunderous with words we don't
speak. I feel his presence beside me like it's an extension of my own body, tall and strong, and so, so
beautiful. But I can't look at him. Right now, it hurts too damn much.

As he pulls me into the pool house, I’m overcome with memories, the sweetness of the beginning of our
relationship: the long talks, the laughter, the fights, the…love. It seems so perfect that we come back to
reminisce over old memories, and to make new ones.
He kisses me in the kitchen, hands cupping my face. “I love you, Violet,” he whispers.
I smile, my heart near to bursting.
“I love you, Zane.”

Holy shit, how did this get so many good reviews?

I'll give it to you straight: If you hated Twilight and 50 Shades, you will LOATHE this book.

Strike One: Squealy girl stream-of-consciousness style of writing. If you had a friend who droned on with such dedication to nonsense and in such an irritating manner, you would slap her silly within the first five minutes of hanging out. Wait, what am I saying? You wouldn't be friends.

Strike Two: What is up with Violet's constant need to indulge in verbal diarrhea?

Strike Three: Did you suddenly get hit on the head while reading and forget that Zane is hot? No worries! Every other paragraph will ensure that you remember that he is unrelentingly hot with perfect chest hair and sexy nostrils and whatever else can be said to be hot about him. Even when he isn't in the scene at all, you WILL be reminded. He is hot. He is hot. OMG he is hot. In the voice of a squealing teenager, with the consistency and tenacity of Chinese water-dripping torture boring into your brain.

Wow, I'm seeing Zane again for the 3000th time, OMG he's so hot I have to blurt out something stupid once more! I'm at my friend's house in a scene with absolutely no bearing on Zane, and by the way, did I mention he's hot?

Were a natural disaster to occur and Violet be on the verge of death in it, she would still undoubtedly find a way to remind us that the hero is hot.

Continued reaction throughout the novel

Wow.

Wow.

Wow.

Seriously, you guys. This novel.
I adored it. Completely. Madly. Deeply :P

After reading such trashy romance novels, supposed to be YA and all swoony, this novel sticks out like the jem it is.
It's like stuffing your face with plain old chocolate ice cream and more ice cream and even more, that you're sick and tired of it. And then you are handed a cup of Ben & Jerry's chocolate ice-cream. You are eyeing the cup warily, but then give in to temptation and take a bite, albeit cautiously and VOILA! Best ice cream you've ever had. It restores your faith in ice creams.
And I'm sorry if it was a poor analogy and you didn't understand jack

No bad boys with broken pasts, okay maybe a little, no whiny dumb-as-fuck heroines, no unbelievable romances, no insta LUURRRVVVE, no ridiculous twists.
This is basically what high schools relationships be like- awkward, nervous and exciting as hell.

Great points
-Violet
-Birthday surprises
-Bunnies
-Dumpy teenagers
-Violet
-Violet
-Did I mention Violet?

Characters

Violet

Violet is H-I-L-A-R-I-O-U-S. Not just regular funny but laughing-your-ass-off-so-loud-your-mom-comes-in-your-room funny. She is awkward and so socially inept, it's a wonder when she gets out two lines without messing it up. When nerves hit her, she is rambling and babbling all sorts of nonsense.
And her fascinating weird penchant of inserting the word 'penis' in regular conversations.
Oh. My. God.
Nothing like penis to stop all the talking and swivel all heads around.

It was so refreshing to love the protagonist for a change. For a while back there, I started imagining I was being too judgmental and bitch to heroines. But, no shit. The girl is remarkable. But under the sunny smiles and embarrassing conversations, lies a steely resolve and indomitable will. When her mother was diagnosed with cancer, instead of bitching about how fucking unfair life was, she took to self publishing her novels. How uber cool is that!
She works as an assistant to the elderly and there we get to see another side of our girl. Her compassion and dedication. It was humbling to see the respect and love she exudes. And I'm like..

She is not whining or flailing about like a helpless chick or throwing her problems on an unsuspecting boyfriend.

And it was adorable to see her relationship with her mother and her best friend, Lauren. She was so fiercely protective of them and so..so gentle, she gained my instant respect.
She messes up big time. She says uncomfortable things. She stumbles. She can't wear a shirt without first sticking her head in wrong holes. She's dorky and a complete klutz. She's like that. And that's what makes her perfect.

Zane O' Connor

Dude, this guy. AWESOME.
Why can't all love interest be this great?
He is the cliched player, love 'em and leave 'em types. But that's where it ends. He is caring and sweet and so..so..swwwooooon
That's it. That was the guy. Enough to say, he complimented Violet perfectly.

Their relationship was...

And, I think, it's definitely something when my gushing over the heroine is more, more than that over the guy. And that too, when the guy was pure perfect and swoon-worthy!

Conclusion

It is a story of sweet, magical love, witty banter and sweet moments complete with sizzling chemistry
The story and plot itself were mediocre at best and hackneyed at worst. It was the characters that breathed life into the whole affair, making it as magnificent it was. If you have been going through a lot of heavy stuff or stupid, unhealthy, psychotic relationships and are need of a light, fun read, go for it. This novel is guaranteed to coax a smile outta you.

Go and read it already!

Warning: Don't read it in a public place for fear of being labeled completely deranged owing to your maniac laughter on reading the book.

He's a stranger—an incredibly famous…liar.

This story is about Violet, who goes to meet her boyfriend just after she comes back from a trip. They get together and

He was cheating on her and now he wants to get together with HER FRIEND! YAY!

“Please, please don’t be mad at us, V,” he begs. And tears are spilling down his cheeks. “I swear, I never wanted to hurt you. I don’t want to lose your friendship. Please say we can still be friends.”

Anyway, then she gets home to discover that her mother is getting married to a rich guy and that guy has a.....Hot son! And as the parents are travelling, the circumstances call for a get together is a house. So what you imagine? For those of you who are into Asian stuff...

Yeah.... Not like that...

This is one of those books where the second part is better then the first. I have to admit that I almost DNF it in 45%. It was ridiculous how many lines were wasted to tell how much the guy was hot. I had so many eye-rolls that I thought I would never find my eyes again because they would be stuck inside of my head.

"Tall and muscular, with a lean build and impressive broad shoulders, Mr. Gorgeous exudes sex and danger—even from where I’m standing. He’s turned sideways, so I can only see his profile, but what I can see is sculpted perfection. Short dark hair, carelessly tousled, an intense brow, the elegant sharp planes of his bone structure…"

The main character was interesting but she was also really annoying sometimes. In addition, some of the traces of the story sounded really forced. It was like the author was trying too much to create a light reading that it got full of unnecessary parts. It's supposed to be a romance comedy, not a free pass to "reading about sexy clowns".

Thank God we had some interesting plot twist, but it still wasn't enough.

"So, to recap, Zane gives you roses and a freaking diamond bracelet...and you accuse him of cheating on you. Then you throw the bracelet in his face?!"
"Um. No. I couldn't get the bracelet off. It was dark, and I couldn't...figure out the...thingy."
"Can you come over here so I can smack you with something?"

That feeling right there pretty much sum up my feelings about this main character in half of the book. Sometimes she was funny but damn, she was annoying.
The down part of the second half was that to get to the "nice fairy tale ending" it got too cheesy. Like SERIOUSLY cheesy.
I also need to point out that I got slightly offended to how "tech people" are seeing. The hot guy is supposed to be a software engineering and we get quotes like this:

I still think it's strange how he's never seen any of these viral videos, considering he works with computers for a living. Aren't all those techie guys usually always plugged into the internet?
Or maybe they wouldn't be if they looked like Zane.

As a person who works at that area I can assure you I haven't seen even 10% of viral videos because, surpriiiiiise, I have a life.

Anyway, aside from that the book is funny and.... Light maybe? It's also full of cheesy and has a nice plot twist. Friendship is also really well written (if you don't consider the cheater) and I like relationships with other characters. So, I really don't know if I would recommend this book. Maybe it just wasn't for me.

"I saw a couple of movies like this."
"Yeah, it is like a plot out of some lame movie."

Violet is having a bad day... That may be an understatement. This bad day happens to be the day she meets her new stepbrother to be, Zane.

“I got dumped at Taco Bills today, fell down, split my pants, and generally humiliated myself in front of a complete stranger; went to dinner at a snooty restaurant, found out said stranger is my future step brother, got called a stripper, hooker, and virgin by my mother... did I leave anything out?”

Violet's mother and her husband to be go out of the country for a month or so, and Violet is supposed to stay with a family friend. That falls through. With out any other option, she stays with Zane. One of Violet’s first impressions of Zane...

It’s just ridiculous how hot Hot Guy is. Crazy ridiculous!

Violet and Zane develop a friendship, a friendship with a lot of flirting! She is really crushing on Zane, but with him being such a hottie and a few years older, she thinks she doesn’t have much of a chance. She would be wrong. After some thick sexual tension, they finally start to be together. They decide to keep it a secret for now, Violet is afraid of her mothers reaction. When the parents return, and Violet’s mom asks if they saw each other any on the vacation, Zane’s answer had me cracking up!
“Oh yeah,” Zane says and smirks at me. “ I had her for dinner once. Best meal of my life.”
Aside from keeping their relationship secret, Violet is dealing with her jealousness and insecurities, and Zane is hiding something pretty big from her. I have to say- Did not see that coming!

How I see ZANE
Photobucket

and VIOLET
Photobucket

Violet and Zane... what to say about these two? Violet was hilarious. She killed me, I couldn’t stop laughing! Loved her! She was sarcastic and awkward at times, but she also had a great heart. And Zane... holy hotness! Just wow. He is funny, uber hot, and just an all around good guy. Their relationship is great, I love the way they banter back and forth with each other!

Now I have to post some of the funniest/ best quotes in the book:

I don’t get really mad often, but when I do, I tend to go a little bit Hulk. Ish.

“Yes, she worked as a stripper in her grandmothers bakery!” She blurts out.
“No!” she gasps. “Did I just call you a stripper?! She is not a hooker or a stripper. In fact, today she just told me she’s a virgin.”

No, I really did. I walked into that room and saw the hottest sexiest guy I’ve ver seen- wet and half naked. And I said “Ewww.”
I know. How am I still single, right?

“Holy shit,” he breathes. “Is this the girl that ate you?”
“Ha, no. You’re funny.” I snatch my picture back.
“So I was super fat. It’s my father’s fault. He never hugged me.”
“So, what, you ate him?”

“You know, there are so many things that can go wrong in this world, you could spend your whole life worrying about them and forget to appreciate every moment you have with someone. Then you’re like, God, why wasn’t I thankful for what I had when I had it?

”

“You know what the secret to a happy life is? No regrets. Just live in the moment.”

This book is hysterically funny! And it is sweet. I really enjoyed it! Once I started reading it, I could not put it down! Read it!!!!!

Falling for the Ghost of You tells us the story of Violet & Zane. Violet's mother is about to marry Zane's father.

Violet is just back from her summer "vacation" and she finds out that her boyfriend has been cheating on her so she's sad and depressed when she meets Zane for the first time but the more she talks to him the more she realizes she doesn't miss her cheating ex anymore.

Why didn't this work for me you say? It wasn't the writing or the plot per se but the sweetness of the story. I loved some parts like the pool scene but once they got together I was bored and rolled my eyes so much it hurt.

I was about to DNF but this one was recommended by friends I really trust so I kept reading and around 70/80% something happened that made it even worse for me unfortunately.

DO NOT OPEN THE SPOILER IF YOU HAVEN'T READ THE BOOK!

I had the feeling the author forced the and tried very hard to sweetened up. I know most of my buddies loved it but this was way too sweet for me.

Once again, I don't think the writing was bad, it was probably me who didn't connect with the story at all.

Go check Amaryllis and Joana's reviews, they loved it:

Attention please...the main character is a slut shaming bitch.
“I’m really sorry,” Rachel whispers, her eyes downcast. Her pretty face is wet with tears.
Aw,let’s give the sweet pretty bitch a hug!
“Don’t talk to me,” I snap. I have found my anger, and it’s the only think keeping me from breaking apart. I focus on my former boyfriend with laser like intensity as a revelation hits me like a falling coconut to the head.
“Did you sleep with her?”
Matt’s mouth tightens, but he doesn’t say anything. Rachel, however, is blushing bright red, so I guess that’s all the confirmation I need.
Slut! a voice in my head screams."

She then says how she would gladly have sex with him if he wanted to and has sex herself later in the book. She also proceeds calling every girl Zane talks to a bitch. If you are anything like me and realize how wrong this is please skip this book and save yourself the misery.

description

If you're okay with this and just want to read this book (or this review) please proceed.
“I'm Violet," I growl. "I thought I lost something this summer, but I just realized, I never needed it."
Total silence.
Then someone mutters, "Is she talking about her virginity?"
In retrospect, I realize I could have worded that better.”

Yet another "pull a Barney Stinson" kind of book. I haven't encountered a more annoying, whiny and over-the-top jealous character like Violet in a very long time. She sounds like a ten year old kid that still laughs when someone says penis. But she's ready to see one up close. Yeah. Okay. When the carefree, funny, babbling and sweet Violet comes home from her vacation in Hawaii she is happy and can't wait to meet her so-called boyfriend Matt. Little did she knows that Matt has a new girl friend, but also he wants stay friend Violet.. the ass !

After a little break down she meets The Hot Guy she saw earlier before!

After a little chat with him and tantrum of hormones she is convinced that she will never meet the hottie-hotnes again but the memories of him and his easy going attitude will stay with her... WELL, DAMN WRONG!

Later that day, she found out that not only she will meet Hottie-hotness again but also that he is her new future-to-be-STEP-BROTHER!

After a while she finds herself in situation where she is homeless and the only person who could help her is her future-to-be-stepbrother - ZANE!

Their new life together is something new for both of them. While Violet goal is to be A grade student and working in the weekends in order to have more of her own money, Zane goal is to sleep with different girl every night!

But don't let that fool you! After Violet's little encounter with one of these girls, he stopped bring girls home!
It was hilarious I am telling you that!

Both MCs are lovely, funny, easy going, charming, strong and the feelings they develop with each other are pure and real !
The FAST BUILD sexual tension between them became unbearable, they tries to stay away from each other but everytime they spoke with each other, just look at each other the FIRE is burning strong!

When they finally gave on the temptation it's HOT, really HOT !

“Oh yeah," Zane says and smirks at me. "I had her for dinner once. Best meal of my life.”

I liked that they are TOGETHER , they have their super sweet moments, sharing secrets, desires and dreams. They are not trying to hide everything from everyone! They have different adventures together and help each other..

“No regrets. Just live in the moment.”

They had their fights, their REALLY jealous moments and they almost-break-up-moments, like every normal couple, but that didn't stop be from wanting to slapped them from time to time!

Together they did everything , feel everything .. together!

What was different than the other books was that it wasn't detailed, it was writen in a beautiful way and that was very re-freshing and new!

WHEN THE BIG SHOCK CAME ON POINT .. well I was shoked!
It was something really unexpected .. and hearts get broken!

But of course, LOVE WINS and no matter how hurt they were, their feelings and love were stonger than anything!

“I remember who I am when I'm with you.”

To summarize and NOT spoil anything I will say that..
this story is really well written, entertaining, sexy, different, awesome and cute! It's kind of story that can make you laugh your ass out, tear a little, giggle and smile and kind a want to punch something! I stayed till 5 AM because I couldn't put it down so I suggest you to READ THIS BOOK and try experience some of these emotions !!!

”Oh let’s see, I got dumped at Taco Bill’s today; fell down, split my pants, and generally humiliated myself in front of a complete stranger; went to dinner at a snooty restaurant, found out said stranger is my future step brother; got called a stripper, hooker, and virgin by my mother…did I leave anything out?“

LMAO ~ Violet and her mom has a ”…family history of Tourette’s,”
every time they would get flustered their mouth’s wouldn’t shut up …

Violet just started her senior year and has no choice but to live with her future HOT step brother, Zane the manwhore, for a month while their parents are away on a pre-wedding honeymoon. She’s 17 and he’s 20 … they are both told to stay away from each other but …

she's crushing on him while he was busy being a manwhore
”I’ve been here almost a week, and so far I’ve seen you with five-no, Naked Girl makes six-different girls.”

but then they hang out and everything changes, they become friends and show each other the real “them”
”I needed to find the real me again. Then I found you.”

she's beautifully plain and he’s a god
”You looked really hot together, like a supermodel couple.”

she’s a tease and he’s trying to stay in control
”Who would’ve though a little girl like you would have me so fucked up, I can’t think straight?”

she has trust issues and he’s keeping a secret
”I have to squash the jealous witch in me that starts shouting obscenities.”

they try and make it work but something is always in the way
”I thought I was gonna have to climb an ivory tower to rescue you?”

they fall in-love but it might not be enough ...
”...you're gonna regret not forgiving me. I could have been the greatest adventure of your life."

It took a while for me to get into their story but once I did I couldn’t stop reading, there was a little bit of everything in here and didn’t know what to expect so it was full of surprises. Super cute ending, although there are some things I still had questions on like why her mom and step-dad never said anything at all, I still ended the book happy, I just made my own happy assumptions ...

*** it's tame ~ no descriptive sexual situations

Oh my...This book is hilarious!

Violet's mother is getting married and her fiancé has a son. A very hot son. Zane.
The problem is just that Zane witnesses how Violet's boyfriend dumps her and how she rips her pants. Not a good start.
"Oh, let's see." I stare up at the fancy glass ball lamps hanging from the ceiling. "I got dumped at Taco
Bill's today; fell down, split my pants, and generally humiliated myself in front of a complete stranger;
went to dinner at a snooty restaurant, found out said stranger is my future step brother; got called a
stripper, hooker, and virgin by my mother...did I leave anything out?"

And this type of dialogues appears pretty often in this book. Violet tends to say stupid and embarrasing stuff when she is nervous and she is often nervous when Zane is around. Nevertheless these two become friends and slowly fall for each other.
Everything seems perfect, but then Violet reveals Zane's biggest secret...

My opinion
The plot is pretty simple and progresses fast and exciting, the character development is perfectly combined with the plot and the dialogues are entertaining. This book is a perfect easy-read!
No great adventures, no drama and no deaths, but still very entertaining. It is wonderful to read about all the small things of life and how they influence the relationship of Zane and Violet.
I love Zane and Violet.
Violet...Oh girl... I love you! She is a friend I always wanted. Quick-witted and funny and honest and helpful.

Zane seems to be a stereotypical bad-boy, but he isn't. He is also honest and direct and humorous! Just an adorable guy!

I love this book!
Highly recommended to EVERYONE!!!

The first word that comes up to my mind, while thinking of this book is AWESOME!!! And HILARIOUS!! And just well, made of awesomeness really.

 photo happygif1_zps9f18401b.gif

I would tell how the story started but Violet summed it all up pretty well...

" I got dumped at Taco Bill's today; fell down, split mt pants, and generally humiliated myself in front of a complete stranger; went to dinner at a snooty restaurant, found out said stranger is my future step brother; got called a stripper, hooker, and virgin by my mother....did I leave anything out?"

And yep, the stranger (and future step brother) is just the hottest guy she ever laid eyes on

" God, that mouth is sinful - all seduction and danger. It sends shivers through me, but the hot, turned-on kind. Not the I'm-cold-get-me-a-blanket kind. What do I mean? I don't know! Hot Guy's still holding onto my arm. God,snap out of it!"

 photo tumblr_mgh3skKIjf1r3t8ico1_500_zps616748f2.gif

She is just hilarious, it was a treat reading it in her POV!
I was laughing (almost crying for laughing so much), i was grinning, i was embarrassed for her and was crushing on Zane too (the step brother ^^).

Anyway, while her mother goes to an anticipated honeymoon and though a sudden turn of events, she ends up living with Zane for a month.
And well, awkward moments, becomes friendship, becomes so much flirting that becomes so much more.

The way they both interact is just amazing, the bantering, the flirting, the easy way they could confide with each other...and the SEXUAL TENSION,just trough the roof!!!
Let me just say a certain pool scenes was just HOT HOT.

I love both characters dearly, Violet is funny, sarcastic, loyal, witty, awkward and many times it seems she doesn't have a filter...things just pop out, leading to hilarious moments. Don't believe me? check this out (her reaction to the jetted bathtub)

" My back muscles get stiff sometimes," I say, just to clarify." Having something hot and hard aimed at me would definitely help loosen up." Zane only grins wider."No doubt." Oh,god, what did I just say?! " That's not what - I meant the jets, not you!" I quickly bactrack. "Not that you would ever aim something hot and hard at me! I mean - what I was talking about was the jets, not your...not anything on you, that's for sure!"

 photo tumblr_inline_mgfapf04sQ1r19zxm_zps9e60fab1.gif

And well, Zane besides GORGEOUS,is down to earth, funny, sarcastic too, smart...and just the way they are together, is just *sigh* amazing.
There are some twists in the story ,there are some insane jealousy (i don't blame you Violet) and some really adorable and romantic moments.

This is a really quirky read. By which I mean that the narrative voice is of a particular flavor/character and it's a strong flavor/character that Christie maintains very well so if it annoys you, you're going to hate this book. Violet is snarky and self-critical, even as she doesn't really care about what other people think. She's also prone to nervous jitters that sabotage her both verbally and physically. I loved the snark and found the self-critical aspects believable without being over-the-top and the rest wasn't excessive, so I was never tempted to put the story down (I have a very low tolerance for slapstick, so I say with some confidence that wasn't the humor-vein that Christie was mining).

And yes, my enjoyment was all down to liking Violet and finding Zane a good-enough match for her. Indeed, I really liked their connection and how they were able to talk seriously or simply hang out together. Violet is often immature in her reactions (she's seventeen, so not unexpected) but she listens to input from others and adjusts believably-enough that I wasn't put off by that.

The story does end up rather issue-heavy with some serious developments in the latter half and quarter (mostly with Violet's friend, Lauren). Nothing devastating or emotionally manipulative, but definitely more serious than I had expected. It undermined the wish-fulfillment twist very thoroughly, though, and not in a good way—which is too bad because we already had enough wish-fulfillment in Violet's method of paying for her mother's former treatment...

Two notes before I wrap. First the good. My engagement was with the snark and relationship back-and-forth. I know I passed up some elements that will absolutely drive others up a wall. Fortunately, all the most annoying quirks show up early so if you find yourself still reading after a chapter or two, you'll probably do fine.

Second the bad. The copy editing was barely adequate. There are a dozen or so that I noticed so an actual copy editor would have caught a multiple of that, no doubt. But the real tragedy is that the interior formatting for the eBook version was a travesty. Not having a hard-break on chapters is mildly annoying (because it means some adjustment when I expected to be at my chapter break when I switch form factors, like from my phone to my tablet). But the inner-chapter scene breaks had zero indication of their presence and that made for some awkward transitions where I'd go a paragraph or so before realizing we had a time/scene jump. This is amateur-hour stuff, here, and it made for a very off-putting experience.

Anyway, I'm giving this 3½ stars that I'm rounding up on the strength of the snark. I just loved Violet's sass and laughed enough to make this a satisfying experience.

A note about Steamy: There are some explicit sex scenes but none of them have any detail. Like, at all. So there's enough lead-up that I feel perfectly justified tagging this as steamy. But there's so little detail that it's the lowest possible setting. Frankly, this worked very well, I think, as the details were completely unnecessary for the relationship, character arc, or plot. So I think this is a great choice by Christie for the story as told.

3.5 FUN AND SEXY STARS!

This was a fun, fairly light Young Adult novel. I think it may have been a bit young for my preference but I still enjoyed it quite a bit...the emotions were real, and the drama was necessary to move the plot. Yes, there was an ACTUAL PLOT in a YA romance. Not just contrived for angst! It's as if the author didn't have to try too hard...she told her story and then ended it, in way that was refreshing in this world of cliffhanger series books.

Violet and her mother are a hoot. I seriously laughed until my stomach hurt...these ladies start talking gibberish when they are nervous and spout off extremely inappropriate things in really bad places. I loved it! I love how Violet is portrayed as awkwardly endearing. She's pretty but not beautiful, shapely but not skinny.

"I used to be fat. Really fat. I was an emotional eater. I mistook Twinkies for love. Common mistake. I blame it on my dad. When he left my mom for some woman he found on the internet, I stopped overeating. I'm not going to say that my overeating was entirely his fault. But it was."

So yeah, she's not the type of teenage girl who hates herself. She's just accepted her lot in life and doesn't realize that she's grown into a pretty girl. Nor does she really care...until she meets the super hot Zane in the most awkward of situations. And then realizes that circumstances are going to force them into spending a lot of time together.

"Zane just looks at me for a moment, as if unsure what to say. He probably hangs out with gorgeous super confident women all the time, and I'm like a new species of insect to him. The neurotic kind that fly into your face, and freak out when you try to swat at them."

There's a fun twist that I actually didn't even see coming. The sexual tension is off the charts but the actual scenes, while mature for teens, aren't descriptive at all.

This was a surprisingly fun read...a complete fantasy for most teens (and some adults...me, me!) My thanks to my Goodreads friend Amaryllis for the recommendation!!

12 years later lol. I forget that I used to be a sucker for rockstar romance. Thank you, Kellan Kyle. This was very funny and cute. But I’m a bit over rockstars 😋

**********

Spoilers!!!!! Do not read ahead if you haven't read the book yet.

You've been warned...

OMG! I seriously can't stop smiling. I freaken love rock star books. I am such a sucker for a bad boy rockstar who falls for a "regular" girl. Can this story ever get old? No probably not. I will always love the rockstars and the authors who choose to write about them.

My emotions were high while reading. Which is a good thing considering all the books I have been reading have been boring and uninteresting.

This is definitely a ten star book.

This was one great read. Violet is a fun, funny, smart, spunky all around cool chick. She is socially awkward, (as is her mom) which leads to numerous, insanely funny situations. I was seriously in tears I was laughing so hard. The best part is, even though most of the humor is at her expense, her grace under the most trying of circumstances make it all the funnier, instead of painful.

Then there is Zane. Damn he is hot. He comes off as vaguely condescending in the beginning, and is a bit of a man whore, but as he and Violet get to know each other, the "real" Zane showes himself, and he is every bit as hot, but is also sweet, and smart and romantic. Oh man, and the chemistry between them is sizzling,

They get together, and then at about 80% a secret, which was illuded to earlier is revealed. I was like :
What?

I just didn't really see it coming. And while part of me was like "sweet!" another part if me just wanted the "regular " story to continue, without this new development. Because of this, the final HEA seemed more then a tad unrealistic. I still loved it, and I still love Zane and Violet together, I just would have preferred a slower, more normal ending.

Highly recommend though!

Rolling on the floor laughing romantic fantasy YA
The story is about a seventeen year old teen girl Violet, who took on her mothers cancer, bills, school, and a horrendous boyfriend situation only to stumble into the most gorgeous man at her worst moment. Her and her mother have an extremely strong and close relationship, and when her mother tells her she is getting married, she is thrilled for her. Everything is about to change for them, the fiancee is extremely rich so they will not have money issues anymore. He also has a son, Zane, and yes, he is the one that saw her at her worst and is jaw dropping drool worthy handsome. This is the beginning on the funniest scene I've read of hoof in mouth disease. I'm not telling you anymore, it would ruin the ride.
The only negative thing I can say about the book is Violet's immature actions, and attitude get on my nerves a bit but it was an accurate example of teen coming into adulthood issues.

What surprise, I found in this kindle freebie, lost and forgotten on my shelf. I loved the humor, had the best laugh at this mother daughter hoof in mouth experts duo.
Read it, it's romantic, funny and unrealistic, which is prefect.

3.5 stars.

What a cute book! Not sure how this one came to my attention, other than I was browsing and it just caught my eye. Between the cover and the title, I first thought it would be some angsty, tortuously emotional YA book. And then I read the sample.

Not over-the-top hysterically funny, but very charming. That's how this story reads. Violet, a 17 yr-old senior in high school narrates the story with plenty of self-deprecatory snarking and outright funny comments.

Slight synopsis, girl's mom meets and gets engaged to boy's dad. Girl and boy meet - instant attraction. Problem? He's 20/21, and she's 17, AND they're going to be step-siblings. Let the fun begin. ;)

Technical details. Editing/grammar pretty good, no stand-out issues. Genre - I would say YA, though there are some non-graphic sexual scenes.

Recommended for those who liked Seduction and Snacks, but don't mind it toned down and without the expletives.

Violet is silly, funny, not that badass but not a bitchy heroine either

It's actually slightly like a "forbidden love" story because Violet is Zane's step-sister. But glad not much drama in this book.

And it has some surprising moments!
I really didn't expect the story will turn like this. I mean, not a "surprising moments" in a bad way, but in a good way. にこ

I WAS going to give this 4.5 stars! I loved Violet and her mother, they're hilarious and I was crying I was laughing so much at the early restaurant scene where they all meet up for the first time. The mother was so funny!

I even loved Zane, he seemed like such a decent cool guy. I thought they would make the perfect couple. Then, I read where he was screwing a different girl EVERY night in his bedroom with Violet next door hearing him screwing another girl. For over a week, 6 different girls that we know about. And THEN he goes for Violet. That's DISGUSTING!! He's a complete slutpig who does NOT deserve this witty funny girl. Who the hell can blaim her for her insecurities over this asshole. Look at his damn actions with all those women. She's only 17 and after seeing all those naked women IN BED WITH HIM and HEARING HIM SCREW them every bloody night, no wonder she's insecure.

What pisses me off is that she even gives this douche the time of day. And what for 7 nights he's banging other chicks and on night 8 he decides to go for his soon to be stepsister?

I'm fed up with these cliched "manwhore" pigs being allowed to get away with their disgusting behaviour and this in the form of a "love" story and this as an example to young girls, that hey, it's perfectly ok for some asshole to screw around on you. Because you're not "officially" a couple, but he's sniffing around you anyway.

And the fact that this teenage girl is made to feel like an overly jealous silly girl by everyone also pisses me the hell off. With his EXTENSIVE track record with women that she had to see up front and close, she had EVERY BLOODY RIGHT TO BE insecure over this jerk.

And finally, I don't give a crap how "hot" this idiot is, if I was forced to listen to him screw a different girl night after night, it would repulse me not make me want to date this sleazy manwhore (unlike other STUPID women, I do not see these types of degenerate assholes as attractive, but as the shallow cheating douches that they are and will be).

BULL CRAP!!

PERFECTION is the more fitting term.
It's not even sad and you should have seen me (ok, you couldn't see me, but for review purposes imagine a girl with a red, puffy eyes, crying hysterically while typing this review).

The story focuses on a normal, seventeen year old girl, Violet, who basically looks like a porn-star, acts like a walking and talking disaster and thinks like God knows what. And to say the least, I love her.

Violet is super pretty and sweet and beautiful! She's got a nice charm and isn't bugging and irritating!
The sexual tension is thick and the chemistry is burning hot!

He crosses his impressive arms over his impressive chest.  "Don't be scared, little girl," he taunts.  "I don't bite." Ugh!  "I do," I growl, and push past him.
