“Do what you need to do. Change your world,” he says softly, his eyes connected to mine so intensely there’s no hope of looking away. “I have to go make my world, but when the time is right, I’ll be back for you.”Lennix is Native American and her heritage means so much to her. Maxim is born to a rich father who has completely different ideas than he does. They are truly from different worlds, but they fit. They are separated again by many years, but that connection they’ve shared has never wavered. If anything, it’s only grown stronger with time.
She was a candle lit and extinguished too quickly, but the smoke of what we had has endured, lingering in the air all these years.
We make a universe of our own. It’s just us, and this is where I want to be. She is where I want to be.
"Hope hurts when it doesn't deliver."Oh, man, sorry guys, but after a lot of thought, I have to round this one down. 😢
She seems to command the elements as effortlessly as she does the crowd's attention, standing on a mound of dirt, a hill as her stage. Even if she weren't slightly elevated, she would tower. She's a straight line of color sketched into the desert landscape, transformed by a glamor of dust and sunlight. One of my favorite heroines this year for sure.
(a) The countless missing and murdered indigenous women across North America. With all of the above on the table, how is it possible that I didn't love this one? Especially when it was in the hands of one of my favourite authors?
(b) Injustices faced by First Nations both past and present.
(c) The positive portrayal of First Nations' culture.
(d) Climate change and fossil fuel dependency.
Scorching love story that had me simultaneously eager to know what happened next and not wanting the story to end.

“How does it feel knowing you could bring a man like me to my knees?”
He was my first. Ten years ago when we made love, I didn’t know a passion like this was rare, something to be coveted and chased and clutched, but tonight, I know it’s a comet shooting across the sky and all we can do is ride its fiery trail.
Now I know.
