With her heart literally in his hands, Celia will have to try and bargain with a devil.

Edward Fasbender is my captor.

Trapped on this island he owns everything on--including, it seems, me.

He told me he would break me, but I thought he meant in the bedroom. It turns out Edward is playing a completely different game.

And he won't stop until he's ruined me.

There is so much to say about this book and I'm not sure if I know how to say it. The author completely threw me off with Edwards declaration at the end of book one. I was sure it was just a bluff. Something to say to throw Celia off at the time. Then we get some of Edwards POV in this book and I'm completely shocked at what was revealed.

I really struggled with Edwards revelation. I think I had in my head a different scenario and I was suddenly afraid for what I was about to read. It was threatening my fairytale I had imaged in this couple. I get that it's funny to say that considering Celia is the heroine.

We finally got an answer to explain why Edward was so passionate about his pursuit of Celia. And his sister's anger. I really didn't understand that. I had so many scenarios running in my head. After hearing their story...I got it.

We also got to see why Celia became a person that not even she liked. I liked learning that. She was such a hated character in The Fixed series that I can say that I understand her now. Edward mentions that Celia is like an onion with so many layers to peel back and he was right. It can also be used for Edward as well. There are so many layers to him as well. This couple is very complex.

While I wanted to jump to the happily every after of this couple, there is so many layers between this couple that have to be peeled back first. It's quite honestly fascinating. I may not like some of it and even hate some of the actions, but I've learned that makes me fall so much harder for a story and enjoy the sweet ending I know will eventually come. I do feel like I can breathe easy now. I guess we'll find out how true that is in the next installment.

No amount of time nor preparation could've had me emotionally nor mentally ready for Slay: Ruin.
It completely and utterly d e s t r o y e d me.

I'm truly at a loss for words right now on what to say to convey just how amazing and perfect and jaw-droppingly unexpected this sequel was - a dark and explosive one at that, one where secrets are revealed, pasts' are brought to light, and intentions are made shockingly clear, in such a way that once you start reading this novel, it's next to impossible to put it down again.

I didn't think anything could've topped Slay: Rivalry - what with its intense and intimidating characters, its compelling, complex and ever surprising storyline, and the captivating writing that really sucks in and keeps a reader hooked - but Laurelin Paige really went above and beyond with Ruin by delivering tenfold all she did in Rivalry. What's more, whereas (to me) that novel focused more on the introduction and growth of the storyline, Ruin really set its sights on the characters' and their developments more than anything else, which is what made this book one of the best dark romances that I have read this year.

Here, we get to see a different side to the devil and his dragon that I never expected to see, along with more of an insight into both their pasts that made everything - from her hesitations, to his motivations; their personalities; their kinks - all the more clearer about them. Yet it was also so devastatingly hard and heart-breaking to learn more about their raw and ugly pasts' that at one point, I was pushed waaaaay out of my comfort zone whilst reading about it, which is why I've shaved off the .5 Star from my final rating.

But that is just my own issue, and something not everyone will feel nor agree with.
Other than that, this sequel was absolutely flawless. I wanted Laurelin to ruin me with this novel, and she did just that splendidly.

If I wasn't laughing out loud or swooning with adoration, I was cursing up a storm and coming this close to throwing my Kindle against a very solid and very Kindle-breaking wall. It could be a bit of a slow read at times (given the timeline of this novel), but mostly this sequel was a fast-paced, chemistry-filled, and a heart-racer of a read that - told in both Celia (mostly) and Edward's (rarely) POV - is a gripping story that consumes its reader from beginning to end, and is hands down not just my absolute favourite book of the Slay Quartet so far, but is also Laurelin's best work to date.

It also ends with such a beautiful and satisfying ending that, had I not known that there were still two more books to be released, I'd have truly thought that Ruin was the conclusion to Edward and Celia's uniquely unusual romance. There is no cliffhanger whatsoever, and it even feels as though their story is split into two parts, with part one - books one and two - having come to an end, and part two - books three and four - only just beginning (you'll maybe understand why it is I feel that way - about the four books being split into two parts - when you've read and finished Ruin).

All in all though, it was phenomenal and a thrill to read, and going by all that came to light in this story and reading into the title of the third book of this quartet, Slay: Revenge... I have a feeling I know what will be happening next for Edward and Celia in this series...

AND I CANNOT CONTAIN MY EXCITEMENT FOR IT - BRING ON FEBRUARY 2020!!

BRING ON REVENGE!!

Edward is Magnificent! An alpha-male who is so regemented and strong-willed, I sit up straighter whenever I read his name. Laurelin Paige excels at writing this male character who control the room and I couldn't be more impressed.

Ruin is sexy, emotional, unexpectedly gritty, and shocking. It was a whirlwind of feelings and emotions. Celia and Edwards relationship was unlike anything I expected. And the ending left me begging for more.

Here's what I loved:
Sexy alphamales are sort of my weakness. Edward is my weakness! He's harder, firmer, and edgier in this installment, but his veneer does crack eventually. I love him.
I know Celia's backstory would break and man oh man did it. I was not expecting this. This author continues to push my boundaries and I will go where she wants to lead.
The writing is great. The setup is good. Ultimately, I was entertained and engaged.

Laurelin Paige heats up the romance between Edward Fasbender and Celia Werner in this second installment of her Slay Quartet, and it is DELICIOUS.

Edward and Celia dance around each other, their lust and arousal palpable. He wants her, yes, but he’s also starting to like her, something that clearly shocks and unnerves him. Laurelin Paige begins this book in Edgar’s POV and occasionally dips back into that intriguing pool, although most of the story belongs to Celia. Her husband unsettles her. Just when she thinks she has the upper hand, Edward knocks her back, showing her how in control he truly is.

There are several scenes that not only made me feel for Celia, they made me weep for her as well. Edward gives her the physical intimacy she wants and even seems to open himself emotionally, only to reveal his end game. Celia thinks she has what she wants, and then he reminds her that none of this is about what she wants: it’s all about what he wants.

And yet Edward helps Celia. He unravels her carefully woven façade, not so much to help her rediscover herself but more for her to learn who she really is. Yes, sometimes his means seem somewhat cruel, but his ends are–dare I say–honorable.

The sexy times are exactly as you hope. Edward enjoys sex, of course, but it’s also a tool of sorts in his arsenal. He uses it to bring Celia closer to him, and he uses it to show her how he feels. Watching those feelings evolve over this book, in fact, are one of the things I enjoyed most.

You get some answers in Ruin. You learn why he has targeted Celia, and you learn how he will react when he finds out who owns those shares of the Werner business. You also learn more about his sister and even Edward himself.

I am in deep with this series. I never thought I’d care for Celia, but I do! I never thought she would make me cry for her, but she does! And I certainly never thought I would root for her, but I am!

I can’t wait for Book 3. I want–I need–to know what happens next between Edward and Celia. I haven’t had enough of either of them.

Where to start........ I could not wait to get my hands on this after the cliff-hanger of book 1, and disappointed I was not, It's fan-fecking-tastic!!!

It's addictive, I Couldn’t put it down and it certainly plays with your head.

It's feisty, devastating at times, you feel the vulnerability of the characters, and oh so HOT!!!

This is Laurelin at her best. I absolutely loved the Fixed series and to date had been my favourite, but this blew me away. Never in my wildest dreams would I have wanted a story for Celia, but now I can't get enough.

In this book we get Edwards POV and it makes all the difference to finally know what's going through this man’s mind. I hated him, then loved him, then hated him again... like I said messes with your head.

As for Celia this is a side of her, for those that know her from past books, we would never have known possible.

They are individually a force to be reckoned with, if they can make it as a team, I fear for whoever gets in their way.

Breaking Her Down
This story SLAYED ME! I am Edward obsessed! I truly was hooked from the very first page. I wasn’t quite sure what to expect after the end of book one, so this story surprised me.

Edward has a plan. He never expected Celia. He thought he knew what he was getting when he married her, but she was so much more. He needs to have total control. He yearns for her complete submission.

The plan changes as Edward uncovers more about Celia. He’s now determined to take her body, mind and soul. The only way for him to gain complete devotion is to break her down. He wants everything and he’ll do what needs to be done to strip her bare.

Celia has never had someone give her positive attention. To invest time and effort into caring for her. She is wary, but more than that she craves the intimacy. She desires approval and acceptance more than anything. However, she fears the truth of her secrets. Sharing her games with anyone leaves her open to judgment, something she’s not sure that she’s strong enough to withstand. Edward won’t accept anything less than complete and total honesty.

Once I started I could not put this story down. I wasn’t sure what secrets they both held or what turn this story would take. Edward is captivating. He is methodical and pensive. He is demanding yet nurturing. He was a contradiction in the best way. At times I wanted to pummel him right beside Celia. He evokes strong emotions.

A story of self-discovery, revelations, forgiveness and acceptance. This series has hooked me completely. The only problem is waiting for the next book in the series.

Book #2!

We all remember the amazingly shocking cliffy with which book #1 ended!!!

Is Edward really serious?

Celia doesn't know, but she's a little scared. Or a lottle.

But she's also still so very attracted to him. The bastard. She hates him! LOL!

description

We spend a LOT of time on Edward's island in the Caribbean this time. Basically it's the only place we get to see. Celia is alone most of the time - which is part of Edward's plan to ... ☺

I have no idea where this story is going.
I just hope we'll get that happy end at the end of book #4, but I have NO idea how we'll get there! ☺

I really loved reading this. It was a bit ... slower? Creepier than last time.

It was also sexy, sparky, crazy, frustrating & heartbreaking. I love Edward and Celia. I love them together. Even though Edward has all these weird ideas for her. But I really hope I'm right in thinking that he has a plan for her - and not a bad one!!!

And this time we don't really end in a cliffy - or if it is one, then it's one we can definitely live with until the next book comes out! I can't wait for book #3 to land on my kindle - even though I'm not really sure why there have to be four books!!!!??? I'm not really a fan of book series. Only when all books are already out! I'm really bad remembering things with my booksalzheimers!

SLAY TWO: RUIN was a great 2nd book in this crazy & sexy quartet! I can't wait to see where Celia and Edward will take us in the next books! Hurry to your nearest amazon asap - Edward will be sold out in no time!!!

This book might be the worst book I've read this year. Which is shocking considering the 4.32 average rating it has.

I don't even know where to start.

It was bad. I've never been this seething mad towards a hero in a romance book, as far as I can remember. God, I want to murder this man.

Turn away now if you don't want any SPOILER because I'm about to let it all rip.

Ready?
.

.
.
Last warning.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.

In the last book, we were left with this cliffhanger that the reason why the hero married the heroine is so that he could kill her and inherit her father's company shares. Because you know, we love ourselves some spousal murders.

The heroine didn't believe him but it's true! He really wants to kill her. He even mapped out all his plans. He would bring her on his boat and somehow kill her on the sea/throw off the boat/something like that. Mind you, they are on a private island in the Caribbean for their honeymoon.

But now he doesn't want to kill her anymore because.... 'feelings'. Instead he threatened her (he called it negotiation but it's a fucking threat!), either he will kill her according to his plans OR she will let him 'break' her (we'll talk more about this 'breaking' part).

So being a rational scared-out-of-her-mind girl, she asked for time. He gave her time. When she finally decided 'okay, I'll say yes now but secretly I'm getting the fuck away from this psycho when I get home', he decided 'you know what, I will kidnap you, abandon you on this teeny ass island for three months for you to contemplate yourself, monitor your movement from my fancy ass castle in England, filter your communication from your family and practically grooming/molding her to be my perfect wife'.

When during that three months time, she tried to seek help from the workers on the island there, begging for help to escape the hero's clutch, she found out that the hero told them that she has mental illness and hallucination and to never let her out of their sight etc. What the fuck??? And this is happened for almost a year. He left her for three months, visit her for a couple of days (a week at most), then went away for three more months. At the end of this book, a year has passed. He sequestered her away for A YEAR away from her family and the world.

I can't. I hate this man so much. I've read darker books than this, but heaven knows why the fuck I can't deal with this horrible and cruel character. Everything he did was so manipulatively evil, it was practically your classic toxic husband-wife relationship.

And that's not even the worst part. The worst part is nearing the end. So, you see, the heroine was molested by her uncle in the past and there was this scene when she was 13 where she was paraded and auctioned off in front of disgusting old men and unspeakable things were said and did to her. Guess what the hero did to help her get over this... this trauma. He recreated the same exact scene in a sex club WITHOUT TELLING HER and have men degraded and auctioned for a night between her legs. She literally broke down and he did nothing until at the very last second.

Now, convince me how the fuck is this guy supposed to be the hero in this book??? Tell me what he did to her is not brainwashing/Stockholm syndrome-ing??? He broke her apart so that she could fit the mold of whatever he wants. Is this even a romance at this point?

I am in love with Celia and Edward's story. Just when I think I have everything figured out I am so wrong. These two people's relationship is no way describable. They are both damaged, lonely, mean, arrogant and so made for each other. Just when I think maybe, just maybe they can be happy with each other and move on, one or both does something stupid and makes things worse. I cannot wait to read the last book and see how things play out.

Celia Werner is supposed to be on her honeymoon, but instead she finds herself trapped on an island by a man determined to break her down. Edward Fasbender is an intense, controlling, arrogant, manipulative alpha male in every way. He was a calculating predator, and she was clearly out of her league. She knew she should probably fear him, but she wasn’t afraid. Instead he made her feel alive. She’d been empty for so long, and he was bringing passion back into her life. She hated how her body betrayed her when he was near. He was infuriating, and wanted her to give up all power. She soon learned fighting him was useless, as he dominated her at every turn. She wanted him desperately with an intense need she’d never felt before. She could no longer bury her emotions. She was falling for her captor, as he made her feel things, and seemed to be the only person who truly saw her. She could see a future with him, but wasn’t sure if she’d get a happy ending. Would he be her salvation or her destruction?

 photo 1F3ABF10-CB2D-4210-859F-E57F7A248313_zpssogbirjg.jpg

Edward Fasbender couldn't believe Celia had actually accepted his ridiculous proposal. Now he was stuck in paradise with his defiant wife, and prepared to show her who is in charge. He had a revenge scheme to play out, and was the king of playing games. He was okay with the darkness he held inside. Anger and regret were his old friends. He thought he had Celia all figured out, but suddenly her walls were tumbling down, and she was real and vulnerable. He didn't quite know what to do with that. Caring about her was never part of his plan. He was overwhelmed and conflicted about his feelings, and could feel himself changing. She'd made him feel too much of everything. There was a new honesty between them and emotions were out of control. In the end will he choose to love her, or ruin her?

-Despite his unworthiness, I had a sick desire to please my husband.

-She was the most beautiful thing I'd ever seen.

-She was an addiction, and I wanted to feed on it.

-The plan had always been to ruin Celia Werner. But she was well on her way to ruining me.

Ruin, Slay 2 by Laurelin Paige is the second book in the Slay Quartet, and should be read after Slay One: Rivalry. It's a sexy, emotional, enemies to lovers twisted tale of vengeance and desire. It's captivating, unpredictable, and packed with unbelievable chemistry. This couple is on fire as they face off in the ultimate battle of wills. I just loved this story, and can't wait for book three!

With the way the first book ended and how long we've been waiting for this second book, Ruin, Slay 2 is definitly the most anticipated release.

Struck by suprise at the ending at book one, Ruin start effortlessly in department of intense mind games. With Edward as the dominant and Celia force to play in his games.

Who's gonna win and prevail at the end?
Who's gonna conquer and rule?
Who's gonna loose everything?

Slay 2,Ruin is.... I can't put it down. From the moment I see it in my Kindle to the first page I read, Laurelin Paige suck me in her world easily.
It was intense.
It was fascinating journey.
It was sexy even the waiting.
It was heart pounding angry moment ends with tears.
It was definitly mind games.
It was regrettably done In one sitting.

But it's not the end yet.
Cause with Celia being an open book, I need Edward do the same.
Third book gonna be epic, I just know it!

AHHHH! I was super excited to read the second installment to Celia Werner and Edward Fasbender's story after that crazy cliffhanger ending in the first book! I loved being in Edward's head as we could honestly see that Celia was the landmine that blew up his life. All his plans and preconceived notions went to hell as she proved that she was nothing he expected and everything he wanted. Likewise, Edward was the break in the cycle of games Celia systematically played in the past. He represented a new beginning and someone worth taking a chance on.

Lord was Slay: Ruin an absolute trip. I swear Laurelin Paige had me on a rollercoaster ride this entire book. I took deep breaths, screamed in frustration and wanted to throw my kindle quite a few times. But this story had me feeling all the emotions and then some. Edward and Celia were one of the most tumultuous couples ever. They were sexy and fiery and I was here for it! But I did find that for every step forward they took, there was a step back. Celia and Edward's story was brilliant in that it caused an emotional overload where all I could do was feel . I was angry and ragey at times and then overcome with sadness and sympathy for Celia and all that she experienced in her past.

Overall, while this installment progressed their story immensely, I did feel like Slay: Ruin was less of a romance and more of a psychological warfare story. It was filled to the brim with mindgames and twists and turns and Edward's experiments on Celia and how she evolved from them. I seriously can not wait for the next installment! 4 stars! ~Ratula

Celia Werner, previously an antagonist, has been successfully redeemed. In Ruin, we see a shift in the dynamics between her and Edward, including their feelings for each other.

Actually, both characters were redeemed. In book 1, I didn't like or appreciate how Edward's character was written. In this installment, I started to understand him and his motives much more clearly.

Their connection has grown exponentially, morphing into something more genuine than initially intended by either of them. I was on the edge of my seat through each of their sessions.

An intense, emotional read.

Thrilling, terrifying and blisteringly smart, like nothing I’ve ever read. To describe Slay’s story, is to undermine it’s brilliance. Ruin is beautiful and ugly and utterly unforgettable.

A riveting tale of captivity, love and sexual suspense, you’ll rip through the pages. Trauma and trust, test the tenuous bonds of a fake marriage in the sultry atmosphere of a hidden island oasis. And Paige has us trapped there too, right where she wants.

Her second installment in the Slay series reads like a crossover between a modern, edgy Dr No and a high-end sexy season of Survivor, where Celia has to outwit and outlast Edward, her calculating, beautiful husband and his staff of cohorts. Her family, her own desires, even her future and friends exist only on the periphery.

The tension comes from Edward’s insistence they delve into Celia’s own Heart of Darkness. And the isolated setting lends itself perfectly to her over-calculating mind, her horrible past, and Edward’s rules which at first appear as benign shrugs to his wife.

But as Ruin unfolds, Edward’s true motives transform Celia and this reader. Every scene between them buzzes with piqued sensuality and metaphors of their journey. A staff’s son, a reclaimed antique desk, or shared bottle of booze, even orgasms, at just the right moment become symbols for what’s passing between them on so many levels.

Edward spends a great deal of the story on the edges of really monstrous behavior, but it’s never what you think. He deals out almost as much suspense and misdirection as Paige. And Celia wrestles with so much, naked in every way in front of her distant husband. I wept and moaned right along with her.

Like a play in four acts, Ruin is an internal story told with sharp knives, sterile gifts, and brutal honesty, it churns inside you too. It’s all so unexpected, or is it?

At one point, I had to reach out to talk to a fellow reader—it’s overwhelming in the most delicious ways—and I felt what Celia must have been thinking: What is happening to me?

It’s impossible to categorize this story. Everything I’ve said is true, and yet I’m certain I’ve done it a disservice.

A romance, a passion play, a satire on family and marriage. Even a healing tome on vulnerability. Gah! If you’re still here, buy it. There’s nothing else like it, Little Bird. 🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤

Wow.

Edward Fassbender has ruined me for all other book boyfriends! Alpha Dom perfection that had me squirming from page ONE.

The story is fantastic. Rivalry left my jaw on the floor, but Ruin still managed to blow my mind. We discover more about who Celia is. It's more backstory. More character development. More sex. More Edward. More EVERYTHING. It's suspenseful with a kiss of darkness. And I couldn't put it down. I'm an aloof alpha, antihero, Stockholm romance fan and this book was such a treat for me.

It's bittersweet agony knowing two more books are still to come bc 1. I can't wait to read more Edward and 2. I know he will always leave me wanting more.

If you haven't met Edward, you need to get your hands on him today!!

I’m not going to go as far as saying I really like Celia Werner because after the FIXED series you can only think terrible things about her, BUUUUUUUT, I will say that I certainly understand her better. The horrible stuff that she endured growing up does not excuse her behavior but it does help to better comprehend what fueled it.

This picks up right where the whopper of a cliffhanger left us in the first book. I was not really a fan of Edward after the first book but he is slowly growing on me. I wouldn’t say I am a huge fan yet because I don’t really understand how to forgive the appalling behavior of what he said at the end of book one. I mean the whole thing was planned out. I understand his bitterness from his childhood and the need to try and avenge the wrongs that happened to his family but it seems a bit extreme to me. I don’t want to say anything else for fear of giving something away but I think when you read it you will understand.

I will say this series has me completely hooked since I NEED to know everything about this couple and their journey. So far, it has been a lot of self-awareness and exploration for Celia. For me it has been a bit of an emotional ride. I keep changing my mind on these two characters and it is confusing me……….they are hot together with their crazy chemistry and then both of them have such erratic behavior that I feel like my feelings are all over the place.

The cliffhanger in book one was a whopper, was Edward just trying to scare Celia. Well Edward revealed he was serious. So he gives Celia ultimatum stay on his island and let him break her or he will get Werner shares another way. Which is what this is all about revenge on Celia father. Prior to Slay you learned that Celia was a true bitch, she ruins people lives with no remorse "The Game". You hated Celia but now that her story is told you start to under her better and knew where all the hatred comes from and you start to dislike another. The devil Celia hated Edward Fasbender. Celia was always out smarting everyone that is until Edward, she was no match for him.

Edward kept Celia prisoner on his island for a year, by keeping her isolated he manipulated Celia he dive into her secrets so he could use it against her. Edward was controlling & demanding and got off seeing her lonely and fearful. Celia had to depend on Edward for everything in a world he created for her with no way of escape. Celia quickly learned if she bend to Edwards will she was rewarded but if she didn't it just prolonged the game. Edward and Celia are both masters at the games they've played. But neither of them expected the rules to change. Who will forfeit first? Is the game worth playing, if even the victor loses everything?

I am so confused.

How did she do it?

I pride myself on having the measure of people.

I see. I listen. I know.

I saw Celia. I heard her nastiness. I knew she was someone I could never like.

LP says, “I’m doing some books about Celia.” “Good luck to you, LP. I’m not reading about her. I hate her with a passion.”

How did she do it?

Now I’m team Celia. Go C. I don’t think I’ve ever done a full on u-turn on a character. Ever. And yet I have. And I think I love her. And I want to send her care packages with little love notes. I want to send a boat to Amelie and rescue her from the island. I want to do yoga with her and we will scheme about how to get revenge on Edward. Oh yes, because he is going to get what’s coming to him. He’s a devil and a jackass.

I’m so cross with Edward. So cross. But damn you woman I need more Fasbender.

I’m completely hooked on Edward and Celia’s story.
Laurelin has taken a character we loved to hate, and given us a beautiful deeply scarred, woman traumatized by her past just needing someone to see her has enough. Edward Fasbender is the Devil to bring her to her knees.
A Wickedly delicious read that will bewitch you with all it’s beautiful emotionally charged sexiness!

Edward and Celia's story continues in Slay: Ruin and it's everything I could have hoped for and more! Laurelin Paige proves, once again, what a very talented storyteller she is. She takes a character you despise and makes you not only like her, but cry for her, and in the end find compassion and hope for her. Ms. Paige's writing is pure genius!

This story has already become one of my all-time favorites. I cannot wait to read the next installment in this series!

My oh my all the answers I got in Ruin. The character development of Celia and Edward was fantastic. Slowly and meticulously executed. I didn’t know what to think and expect of Edward but he surprised me. In a positive way and so did Celia. At first he comes across as a ruthless, cold and dominant man but he has so many hidden sides he shows no one. Celia has being playing games for years and finally she meets a man that sees straight though her. She too has secrets and painful ones she will do anything not to reveal but Edward has other plans.
Edward wants to break her emotionally but being the feisty woman that Celia is it took some time for him to break through. She haS her own agenda as well as he. It’s truly fascinating how Edward went about breaking her down. It changes them both irrevocably. The way they view each other but most importantly themselves. That ending though!
I’m excited for book 3 - Revenge.

Donovan has always been my favorite, but man... I knew Edward wasn’t going to just ruin Celia but me as well. I also had no idea how wonderful it would be. This book was everything! Everything I knew I wanted and so much more. I found myself surprised so much and had no idea where she was taking me. Which was frustrating and delightfully refreshing all mixed into one. Laurelin’s words and worlds aren’t like any others out there. These characters will bury themselves into your soul and will stick with you well after the story ends. I’m already desperate for book 3!

Thank goodness there people here that are thinking like me. I picked up book 1 and 2 based on reviews scores and how many people have 5 star rating. I read both books in 48 hrs and I though after the first book things couldn't get worse. I was in for it. To tell you this second book was so disturbing doesn't even encompass how I feel. I cried for the main character, her frustration, the dismissal of her fears and warnings, lack empathy from her family and the people that worked there. At anything at times I hated the help more than I hated him. He took all her agency away, telling people she had metal illness to negate her actions. How she was constantly manipulate by him. He groomed he just as other had before.

But outside of the book I truly can't understand how all these readers praise this book. Talking about great character growth and dark romance. Neither of these things happened, she was groomed to fit his mold for her, always an outsider separated from all she knew and places she known.

This book is the scond in the Slay series. Yes, you need to have read the first. Also, in order for a lot of this book to really grab you, I think you need to know the events of the Fixed series, at least the main ones where you meet Hudson.

But, now, back to this book.

For a long time, understandably I think, I have hated Celia. It's not just me who feels this way either.

I mean, she's not nice (understatement) and she is manipulative, and mean, and awful and I don't like her and, darn it, nothing is going to make me.

And then she meets Edward. I can't lie, at the end of the 1st book, I thought his plan was diabolical and awful, but I only cared because of what he was planning and not who he was plotting against. And, he felt the same way. She was a means to an end and not a woman woth feelings.

But, here's the thing. Edward isn't a nice guy (YAY for that) but I like him. If I can say that about him (and also like Hudson who is just as guilty of the things I hold against Celia) is she really all that bad? Or, more to the point, she is that bad. But why is she the only character I feel the need to continue to dislike, and is it fair?

*grumble grumble*

No. Maybe there's more to her than I thought initially. Darn it. Maybe she's the villian in Hudson's story, but less of one in her own? Maybe in getting to know her, I can see the why behind the things she's done.

This book explores the past, how it shapes a person's life, and how much of this is something that can be controlled. Are you set in a certain direction never to deviate, or can honesty, self reflection, and acceptance move you to a different path?

There are so many nuggets in this book to give you an idea. Little statements that are said in passing (especially about her relationship with her family) that give you a pretty clear picture of Celia, that she is someone who wants to be loved, and love in return, but doesn't feel she's worth it. You think the same things about her that she thinks of herself. It's fascinating, really, how much you can get into her head in this, because this is your opinion of her too.

Until it isn't.

I can't wait to see where we go from here, and saying anything else is going to get way too close to spoilers, so I will just say this book is absolutely everything you want it to be and, at least for me, it pulls off the impossible. I am starting to like Celia.

I enjoyed and recommend this title.

3.5 CROWNS

There were parts of this story that I really loved. LOVED. The emotion I felt, the sympathy for some of the characters, and the motivations revealed were amazing, captivating. I would give these parts of the story 5 crowns, so why the 3.5? For me it took too long to get there.

If you are reading book 2, then you know who these characters are. You know why they got where they are. The pacing was often times just too slow for me. I got why Edward disappeared for periods of time, and I got the purpose behind his absence and how it played into his overall plan. What it ultimately did for me was slow the pacing down.

The intensity of the story for the last 3/4 of the story is the Laurelin Paige story that I love. My heart really did ache for this heroine as she shared parts of her past with Edward, and I connected to them in these final moments of the story. I just didn't want it to take so long to get there.

Laurelin has created a truly complex and heartbreaking story, and while the pacing of this one was off for my personal preference, I did love the overall story and where she is going with this couple.

I took my time reading this one. I wanted every single word to engulf and devour me. As with all books by this author I was not disappointed one bit. This one was different because it was slow and methodical and well written. I knew going in that in some form or fashion I would be ruined.

With this one I honestly craved a man like Mr. Fassbender. I craved the fact that I wanted him to ruin me in every sense of the word. And in all honesty for those of us who have a past that we let define us it’s crucially important that we are broken so that we are allowed to let go of that past so that it doesn’t continue to define us in the future. This book was one of my favorites. It allowed me to see how a control freak like Celia can let go and accept what ever outcome she is given.

The anticipation leading up to this book's release had me on the edge of my seat. After the crazy ending of Rivalry (the second installment in Slay Quartet). I have been at his author mercy as I waited for book two and let me tell you now, the wait was worth it, but I didn't doubt that for a second.

Book two throws us right back into Edward and Celia's story.

Edward is just as intense, arrogant, and manipulative as he was in book one. If not more and I freaking loved that about him. When he married Celia, he never expected what he got. But he was on a mission to uncover everything there is to know about this woman. He wants her to submit fully to him. The thing is.. there is no secret that he wants her... But there are feelings starting to surface that he never expected, and that unsettles him. But there is a need inside him that is driving him to need to know everything single thing there is about this woman and he's prepared to do what it takes to get inside that head of hers, take over her mind, take over every inch of her body and completely consumes this woman. Did I mention how much I love this man? I have no idea why, but I do and he is everything and more that I love about an alpha asshole hero. Ms. Paige never disappoints when it comes to her alpha male leads and Edward was sex on a stick!

Celia is the type that craves approval, craves positive attention and seeks it. Not exactly an attention seeker, but she has been neglected of most positive attention all her life, so when Edward starts to put time and effort into her, she can't help but be a little stand-offish. It's not something she is used to but it's secretly something she desires more than anything. To have that acceptance and approval. But something is holding her back, and she fears that if her secret comes out, she will never be looked at the way again. She fears judgment, to the point that she thinks if her secret does come to light that she won't able to handle the judgment that comes along with it. But the thing about Edward is that when he wants something, he gets it and he won't accept anything less and what he wants from Celia is her honesty and to be able to control her using it.

This two... God, I wanted to scream... Like I said above, I am not sure what it is about Edward but I am in love with that arrogant asshole. Everything about him had me putty in his hands. These two together though. I could feel the sexual tension between them. It only thickened as the book progressed. But will Celia trust Edward enough to open up? And if she does, will her secret be a deal-breaker? Should she trust him? And will he finally accept the fact that this woman has gotten under his skin and actually has fallen for the woman he married?

This was everything. Laurelin Paige has been a favorite of mine for some time and with every book I read, I fall even more in love with her words. She writes the best domineering assholes you love to hate and love to love.

It was capitating, all-consuming, addictive, and downright hot! I honestly couldn't get enough. The more of Laurelin's words I read, the more I fall in love with them!

Ruin begins pretty much where the first book left off. This time around Celia and Edward bare their souls, peeling back the surface layers to expose what's beneath, if you've read the first book you'll have already guessed that what's revealed isn't pretty. Yet somehow that act of them opening up and being vulnerable in front of each other is beautiful. In that one act you see how they fit, how right they are for each other even as battered and bruised as they are. I loved watching them explore each other in a different light as well as sexually. Edward is still an ass even more so in this book but there's another side to him that I loved. I can't wait to see what the future holds for them because I'm sure all of their secrets haven't been revealed as yet. I definitely recommend this book.
