Spanish fashion giant Zara has announced its international collaboration with Jo Malone CBE, founder of the namesake perfume house and Jo Loves. The alliance began over a year ago when Zara wanted to launch a new fragrance collection and found a fitting partner in Jo Malone, united by the same sense of detail, creative flair and desire to tell stories. Zara and Jo have woven a line inspired by the past, present and future of Zara's world-renowned fashion collections.

Zara wanted to create an original and unique line, which is why the company approached Jo Malone, who knows so well how to create stories and translate them into perfumes:

"Jo Malone CBE is well known for her talent for telling stories through perfumes and, working here with the Zara team, she drew inspiration from the brand's fashion collections to create these special fragrances. We are very excited about this international collaboration and look forward to introducing it to our customers."

Jo Malone CBE

This new adventure crossing two very specific worlds, that of Zara and Jo Loves, is an exciting challenge for Jo Malone CBE: "I am delighted to join Zara in this adventure of creativity and collaboration. Our first collection is inspired by the global heritage of both brands, Zara and Jo Loves, using ingredients that I have enjoyed for many years. Each fragrance has been designed with a personality and a voice that tell its story in a unique way. I hope you enjoy this first collection; it is full of imagination and art. "

The Zara Emotions collection by Jo Malone CBE comprises eight perfumes priced at €25.95 each, which will be available from November 15th 2019 in Zara stores across Europe, Mexico, Australia and New Zealand, followed by the US and Asia in early 2020.

Descriptions by the brand:

Vetiver Pamplemousse: Grapefruit, Mandarin Orange, Vetiver

"A spray of cologne on a white cotton t-shirt: the scent of everyday."

Waterlily Tea Dress: Bergamot, Green Mint, Musks

"The sweetness of a piece of jazz music in the air, a picnic on the grass, a floral dress fluttering in the wind."

Ebony Wood: Pepper, Clove, Ebony Wood

"That moment of freedom and carelessness when an adventure begins."

Amalfi Sunray: Bergamot, Mandarin Orange, Orange Flower

"Happy souvenirs of a summer vacation in Italy."

Tubereuse Noir: Ylang ylang, Tuberose, Sandalwood

"The scent of tuberose is more luxurious than a pair of diamonds."

Fleur D’Oranger: Orange Blossom, Neroli, Ylang ylang

"We should always celebrate moments of happiness with orange blossom."

Fleur De Patchouli: Peony, Patchouli, Guaiac Wood

"Like pair of eyes staring at you, this perfume pushes you to go beyond, to express your creativity."

Bohemian Bluebells: Lavander, Sandalwood, Musks

"A fragrance that breathes a Bohemian spirit, full of courage and hypnotic power, unlike anything you've ever smelt before."

This platform is here discussing smell of scents and not who , why, where, for how much etc.. you like it or not? For someone is cheap smelling for someone good enough... I don’t understand all this negativity.. you like niche so stuck with niche and don’t even bother to comment..
You have many countries where if not zara women/man can’t dress nicely or with quality (even still not high one) they would have to wear cheapest Chinese clothes. And i am not talking about only poor countries, just take USA nothing to buy therr if you are not rich or don’t want to spend trippel on European designers clothes.
Not talking about how many job places Zara offers all around the world.. sometimes those people just have no other opinions at least they can pay bills so unless you are not in their shoes dont even dare to say how bad Zara for world is from your cosy overpaid job in very well developed country

@tandem_4x4 It’s Jo Malone, the person. Estee Lauder has owned her namesake company for years now, so Malone did this in conjunction with her new-ish perfume brand Jo Loves. I think a variant of her name, Jo Malone CBE (the CBE is some moniker bestowed upon her by the Royal Family. I Googled it and then immediately forgot what it means! ) appears on the Zara packaging; no doubt this variant was used for legal reasons, mainly to distinguish it from the Lauder-owned brand.

If I am not mistaken Jo Malone brand is now owned by a big company. Is it cooperation with Jo Malone brand or with Jo Malone individual?

I tried these perfumes yesterday. They are not bad, longevity and projection are not bad either comparing with other brands colognes. I decided not to buy anything as I already have a better options for neroli, tuberose etc. Otherwise can not say anything bad about these fragrances value for money. Good everyday options.

As for the ethical considerations, I've just read yesterday that Inditex (owner of Zara) has adopted new vision and strategy to be a sustainable brand. Actually, I own a lot of items from Zara. 10-15 years ago they seem were more sustainable: having their wool and silk classic cut items now, bought in various years. Are them less sustainable then higher fashion brands? Is it just because they produce more to supply the less fortunate population? Would those exploited people in the developing countries be better off without them (sometimes having no employment whatsoever)? I probably do not know enough about work conditions at their factories worldwide and sourcing their materials, but I lived long enough, traveled enough, talked to people everywhere enough to ask myself questions before blaming others behaviour.

Hahaha...I agree...are they going for the world record for shortest sillage? Both Jo Malone and Zara fragrances overall have weak sillage. I've said Jo Malone fragrances are like a firework: loud and startling at first, but they dissipate quickly.

Jo Malone and Zara? Nothing worth my time or money could come out from this poor pairing.

Of course these fragrances are poor quality....that is the whole point! If they were any better la Malone would undermine the success of her own fragrance label, because why would people spend money on Jo Malone if they can buy the same quality for a fraction of the price at Zara? This is about marketing, branding and profit, and enticing people to buy these fragrances on impulse. This is not about offering people something special or worthwhile....They probably smell fine on a blotter or the first 5 minutes on skin.

I have Ebony Wood and Vetiver Pamplemousse, longevity and sillage are nonexistent. Could somebody tell me is it also the same with other fragrances from this collection ?

I tried them all over the weekend, they start out interesting then after 10 minutes they turn to some poor quality mess like most other Zara's for women. I can't belive Jo put her name on these.

Jo Malone is just as lasting as Zara fragrances - with a few exceptions. Flor e de Azahar by Zara was the best neroli fragrance of them all- superior quality, above any others including all T. Ford. I tried them today 5% juice soooo bad! I'm glad I didn't buy it prior trying it!

As usual, Zara fragrances are dupes. I already see 2 of them above, by name and notes.
Amalfi and Fleur de Orange.
Does anyone see more?

Furthermore, I see here an attempt to upgrade Zara dupe brand and a downgrade for a too expensive below average niche brand.

GoldIris 11/16/19 20:43

This should actually be the price for the Jo Malone fragrances since they have absolutely no longevity and such short projection. But people with no taste...I mean minimalistic taste in fragrances keep overhyping this brand together with all the other wanna be insta-infusers who get paid to have those bottles in the background. However the price this time seems fair I guess and I am looking forward to try them.

This is actually amazing. I am more excited about this collaboration than I am when Jo Malone actually releases a new fragrance. I am usually not one to follow the Jo Malone herd. Although I did follow the herd to Myrrh and Tonka.
I will definitely be trying these.

Zara fragrances smell nice for the first couple of minutes and then turn into a boring weird drydown immediately, hopefully the JM line will be different, but I don't have high hopes for it. I like the men's line from Zara much better than the women's line, in terms of fragrance quality. I don't think I'll be buying any more scents from Zara.

Ok, allow me then to rephrase: like it or not, the fast fashion industry is unethical for many reasons. People are making lots and lots of money while exploiting humans and natural resources. It is an industry that thrives on enticing people to buy poor quality articles that are designed to last less time than it takes to enter your pin-code. Jo Malone is a very successfull, high profile fragrance designer who is very much in demand. Which gives her the power of choice. She is in a position to make responsible choices. She does not have to be part of this fast fashion industry. She wants to be. And I find it hard to believe that she is in it for purely artistic reasons.

As consumers, we do not always have the luxury of choice. We have to make do with what fits in our budget and with what is made available to us. So if you happen to fall in love with a Zara fragrance when you’re doing the shops, by all means get it (or think the better of it). My point is that Jo Malone does have choice...

And just for the record, I’m not aware of any Chanel or LVMH fragrance in my rickety soap box. Which does not mean I don’t like them or find them (in some cases) desirable and well made.

Unethical? Seriously? If you think Chanel and LVMH, makers of scents in your own collection, are ethical, I’ve got some seafront property in Arizona to sell you. If you don’t like the idea of this line, simply ignore it. It takes brass balls to get on that rickety soapbox of yours to tell others what to do with their money. Be quiet and let people enjoy things.

This is not Malone’s first partnership with a fashion brand. In the 90s, soon after launching her own line, she was asked to create a fragrance for UK brand French Connection. It was dubbed “Bathroom” and included a scent, candle, bath and body products and hair care. It’s been renamed to “Fragrance” and is offered in a clear bottle. Its notes are grapefruit, vetiver and jasmine. I’ve repurchased it many times over the years and always have a bottle (or two) in my collection. It’s really wonderfully executed and comes in at less than half price of her own Grapefruit Cologne.

This is not good news at all. Fast fashion in unethical for many, many reasons (exploitation of humans and natural resourses plus an enormous environmental impact with pollution and carbon emission), but it is also incredibly lucrative........I am sure La Malone knows this all too well. She’s probably crying herself all the way to the bank as we speak. Please think before you buy.

Saw them on their website......prices on the higher side for Zara.
2 of them were 29,95 euro, the Amailfi Sunray and de Fleur D'Oranger.
They seemed not priced right, corrected them now to 25,95 euro

There are 3 sizes: 10 ml travel for 5,95, a 40 ml for 15,95 and a 90 ml for 25,95 euro

Also there is a sample pack, all 8 fragrances 4 ml for 15,95 euro
And a gift set all 8 fragrances 40 ml for 99,95 euro.

1 problem in the stores: The shelves are to small to show all the fragrances put out this year. You want to smell / test them...

Wow we got some snobs here, high end brands can use cheap ingredients and you wouldn’t know it. I mean the quality of a lot of designer fragrances have gone down tremendously and most of them are doused with fruity syrups even men’s colognes. I appreciate that she did this collaboration because that means more people can have access to her perfumes without giving their paychecks away. Zara has great fragrances for the price. Sucks the US has to wait till next year, really want to try Bohemian Bluebell, even the name sounds intriguing!

I dislike Zara as a fashion brand because I’m generally against fast fashion, for ethical and quality reasons.

But Zara has been killing it with their fragrances lately, their Rich warm addictive fragrance is one of my favorite fragrances. I would honestly choose it over many designer and niche fragrances. So if they would create anything with that quality, I’d be more than glad to try them out.

Hmm. TBH I think regular Jo Malones are waaaay overpriced for the (nonexistent) strength & longevity they provide. This is actually a good price point for her stuff. I'm ready to sniff...

Very cool!
Just because one member of this forum was there once a couple of years ago and didn't like it no one should be discouraged from trying Zara fragrances 😅 I hope they're in the usual Zara price range, which is below 10 € btw. For sure most designer fragrances aren't worth more ingredient-wise anyways.
The tuberose, waterlily and patchouli ones sound nice, hopefully they'll not be sold out too quickly.

But it will just be Jo Malone "recipes" with cheapie Zara ingredients . IF they are at that $20.00 price range., that is . POSSIBLY they might dip in to the "mid-rangies" -- the $40.00 to $50.00 price group, with BETTER ingredients , but we are now giving crappy Zara too much credit. I spent an hour in a Zara store I tried every fragrance AND WANTED to like them-- (I love cheapies!) and the dry-downs are just dreadful ..on ALL of 'em. The bottles look nice. Many of them smell "nice / OK" within the first 45 seconds....then D.O.A. Dear Jo, you're better off lending your name to the fragrances at Dollar Tree (of which- and I ain't JOKING, smell just like or BETTER than anything from Zara).

I intend to sample. I love JO and her creations (what Lauder did to her is unforgivable - prohibiting her to use her >>own name<< in perfumery after selling biz to them ~ I also hope she canned the biz attnys who missed that caveat in the contract). That said, I doubt very much that she would risk her modified moniker by attaching it to an inferior house with inferior product. A little common >scents< needs to be in order here (yea, double entendre ~ yuk yuk yuk). I look forward to testing these offerings when they become available, especially Waterlily Tea Dress and Ebony Wood.
