Could somebody send me a message explaining the difference in the bottles of the normal Pure Malt and the Pure Malt Creation. From the one or two Creations out there, once you take the box away the bottle appears to look exactly the same as the average Pure Malt. Usually one would find "Limited Edition" printed somewhere, but I can't seem to find the difference in the bottle design or the bottom label.

ysl26

I'm selling a bottle on ebay right now if anybodys interested.

Immediately hit with a mild booziness that reminds me of a premium Manhattan -- whiskey, sweet fruits and spices. In the opening the booziness is accompanies by bright sweet citrus with no sharpness. The citrus pulls back quickly, and the familiar coffee-cedar-patchouli-musk of the original A*men becomes evident as the base, but the "Manhattan" smell still sits out front. As the scent develops over the first hour the cedar adds its usual menthol edge and I am met with a rotating set of smells familiar to those who have nosed whiskey including the smokiness of peat, the hay-like, grain smell of barley, the woods of the barrel, and the spiciness that reminds me of cinnamon or clove, yet not quite either. All the while, the A*men DNA still sits underneath. In the end, you still have a wonderfully gently sweet, slightly smoky, slightly boozy, amber, patchouli, woody smell that I think is exactly what the name promises: A*men + Scottish whiskey.

I have the 2013 version, and with obvious exceptions, I don't get into the reformulation thing. But the performance I get is pretty decent. Strong fairly boozy projection for the first hour, moderate projection that is more sweet than boozy for the next several hours, and then a skin scent after around 6 hours, but if I get moving it activates and projects harder. I wear this in 70 degrees or less, which where I live means end of fall through beginning of spring, and usually as an evening scent.

Newer boozy smells are boozier, sweet gourmand fragrances are sweeter, and there is more frequently an emphasis on realistic expressions of food and drink. While I certainly enjoy those, I think they also show how balanced and ahead of it all the Mugler A*men line was, and for many, Pure Malt is the best of this line.

I love sweet amber woody smells and there is nothing about this fragrance I dislike. I quit buying fragrances in 2008 until recently. Completely missed this gem when it was a "thing" but managed to get this for a very reasonable price and would pull the trigger again at a bottle $1 per ml or less. $250+ a bottle, though? Uh, no thanks. Wish Xerjoff would make an inspired by, like Naxos is to Pure Havane. That would be worth $250...

Sooooo...
What about Star Man Nebula? Oh, it's pretty good. I bought my bottle 9 months ago, sprayed, then let it sit to mature. The opening is still a different experience for me than Pure Malt, especially back-to-back on the same day. Way more citrus, patchouli and musk in the first couple of minutes and I think at that point, this isn't Pure Malt. But then a few minutes later you start getting that A*men-y feel and then it slowly gets closer and closer to the original. In the first 15 minutes, the closer my nose gets to my skin, the more obvious this is a clone. But even at arm's length, it's really, really close. After that, it smells like you are wearing Pure Malt. A little less booze, but even the gradual development of the cedar and A*men base works the same. So is it worth under $30? Absolutely! Shorter performance, so reapply after 3-4 hours if needed, and you're good. Is it a complete replacement for Pure Malt? If Pure Malt was $100 I'd say stick to the original, but it's not, so buy the clone and get a small decant of the original if you want to compare for yourself.

I am a huge Thierry Mugler fan since I first experienced the original.

I now have ALL the Mugler A*Men Pure series except Pure Shot and Bracelet one.

This is the latest addition, couldn't find a bottle around, so I cheated with ten 1.5ml samples :)

Andplagueflowers

Slightly different from the original but that "slightly" has big impact and make Pure Malt Creation one of the best frags for sure. You can tell it is more refined, smoother, creamier and have better longevity and projection.

If you can't notice the differences between the two, you might have to train your nose more. You can do a blind test.

From my personal experience, I got much more compliments when wearing this one that's why I said it creates a big impact. I would save this one only for a date night.

P.S. Anyone has a bottle to sell, please PM me. I offer a very high price.

Rob321x

I have both pure malts, and people saying they do not notice a difference? I definitely notice a difference. A big one. This is like the intense version. The fruity note is very dominate mixed with whiskey, and I pick up the milk a little bit.

yourfriendmarito

I am a bit surprised With what I read beliw. It is the exact same formula. The only difference is that they changed the color of the bottle to a beautiful gold. I have both versions and they are all the same. I do not believe their statement about putting the product in oak cast. This is marketing only.

The 2013 version is noticeably richer, more amber-y kind of smoky.
Maybe the oak casks are more than hype and marketing hyperbole!
Genius concept, claiming to adapt the artisanal techniques for luxury goods to the manufacture of designer fragrances - true to the artistic genius of Pure Havana and Pure Leather -Pure Coffee and Pure Wood, not so much.

According to the blurb in the box from the magic circle (or whatever it's called) it sounds like the 2013 edition is meant to be about Bourbon rather than Scotch.
I know what each tastes like, but I'm not sure how well the process of making alcohol from fermented grains translates into perfumery.

Longevity is better than the first Pure Malt and lasts a good six to eight hours.
Last night I realised why I used to like this so much - the dry down has a really smooth amber vibe and smells quite classy.
I used to wear this as for "fun", arty occasions.
Truth be told, haven't had much fun lately - probably why I haven't worn this for a while.

oceansoflorewi

Steer clear of this gimmicky money grab release, it's total trash and offers nothing the original composition has- in fact it offers LESS.

The berry top notes are virtually non existent in this formula and there's nothing to replace and balance out this void, maybe make it more caramelly or something.

Those that claim it's more creamy- it's not true; it's the exact same formula just without the berry at the top and a lighter dry down. It's like they turned it into a fresh Spring scent.

If you want Pure Malt for the Spring then I guess this serves its purpose but I have zero use for this.

Is this a bad scent? Of course not. The problem is they took something great and made it blander.

You made me waste my decant money on this Mugler!

It has a very fruity and boozy opening but after 1 hour...
It becomes a very masculine and sexy scent
Everyone that smell this on you will come back to smell you again for sure
I recommend this to everyone that is new to fragrance game
The price is very good for this fragrance
And I suggest you to wear darker colored clothes wearing this fragrance
Something like leather jacket with a dark jeans and black boots
This scent pictures a strong man for me someone that is matured enough but got his wild side too
I will buy another bottle of this for sure
It is 9/10 for me

I have 2013 creation and 2015 batch. When I compare side by side whether on skin or in the air there is not much difference. 2013 creation is toned down malt whiskey and just a bit more fruity and less sweet. They both smell %90 similar, so not worth paying high dollars for 2013 creation especially.

The performace is beast, can smell it even the next day. They are both strictly for winter. Never ever wear this fragrance in summer, it will make you sweat.

pedrotg

This is a much more refined version of the original Pure Malt. Instead of an empty beer bottle drydown, you get here sweet fruity-vanilla alcoholic vibe which is much safer and more wearable than the original one. I've always felt that the original Pure Malt was more aggressive, therefore more suitable in winter, but Creation is more polished, cosy and feels fine in autumn as well. This is more Glenfiddich whiskey, whereas Pure Malt is Chivas Regal. Overall there's something mesmerizing about the scent and when get wafts of it, I feel very content. Hands down best A*Men flanker, up there with Pure Havane. Love it!

CagoDomo

A brighter, more vibrant version of the original Pure Malt. Don't go into it expecting a monumental change though, the 2 are about 90-95% similar...
It's almost as if they allowed the original Pure Malt to open up a little bit- to blossom. A little more citrusy, almost an acidic citrusy like O.J. There is also a grainy, fibrous quality in the opening- similar to a chewable vitamin...In a good way

And then...
It dies. About 2 hours in, the projection really fades and can not compete with the original Pure Malt.
The opening is much brighter but the longevity doesn't seem up to par, in my experience anyways..
I would say owning both would be pretty redundant unless you're a collector

miceffect

Can't go wrong with Whiskey and caramel mixed with coffee. Great beastly performance. Absolutely love Mugler but use wisely. You'll clear a room.

Personally I prefer Pure Malt Creation over Pure Malt, It is more wearable.

ReapThaWhirlwind

It is a brighter, more vivid version of the Pure Malt formula. The fruity accord has a lot more electricity to it especially. Obsoletes the original version entirely in my opinion. Essentially, anything you would be looking for in the original you get greater out of this.

I do notice that there seems to be a tenacious musk in the base of this formula, that has the capabilities to mask the fragrance, and knock out your olfactory. This is if you don't shake the fragrance up, and allow the heavy musk(s) to sink to the bottom and concentrate. Quite a bit of deadly Mystique hiding in such a rare, elusive, and highly prized superstar.

I have the very first version of pure malt and i also have this one. I tried them side by side this version is sweeter that the original and slight less malty . I like them both but i like the original little better. But pure malt creations is much better than the new version of pure malt that does not last :(

Mark0

I agree with georgekg, I had the same experience with the newer bottle I bought.

6 or 7 years ago I bought a big pack of sample vial spray of pure malt, then immediately bought a full bottle and it smelt fantastic.

The newer version is horrible. My didn't last more than an hour tops, it smells diluted to my nose, you can tell that the depth just isn't there.

I would either search for pure malt creation or buy a part used bottle off e-bay..check the barcode and make sure it was bottle 2012-2013, since then it's gotten worse and worse.

There is another scent, that while it doesn't smell like this, is fantastic. It's by AL Aneeq called fakhrul oudh and it smells similar to Kalemat black but performs better.

You can get this scent for £15 in the U.K as a tester and it smells fantastic.

I came across it a few months back and it's top notch stuff. In my opinion it smells better than current £50+ top end designer stuff.

If you're from u.k and would like the website, drop me a message. It's even a steal at full retail but £15 for a tester bottle is a joke.

Mark0

Completely disagree with jason.luedtke. This version, which I own two bottles of, smells more smoother, better blended and has more strength.

I see this as the slightly more grown up, elegant version of pure malt. As mentioned, a portion of the whiskey note is toned down and it just smells more well balanced than the original, it lasts longer on me as well.

I really like this version. If you test side by side, this version is definitely smoother.

This is version is getting harder and harder to find now, if you find a bottle, I'd take a punt on it personally.

This version will be near impossible to find before long.

The newer version is awful and has been for several years now. I bought a newer bottle and never would again, sold it two days later and luckily found a bottle of this instead.

georgekg

Just got pure malt creation today. Got it on Ebay for like 70 bucks. Smells similar to Pure Malt but lasts forever. My newer pure malt dies out in 20-45 minutes.

acc

Mugler Pure Malt Creation features the same star as its brother Pure Coffee. The star is not transparent as in Pure Malt.

Creation is much woodier and muskier than the Pure Malt, also much less malty and boozy.

I have an original version of Pure Malt and i could easily compare it to niche fragrances. It has such a balanced combination, malt notes smell pretty delicious and classy at the same time.

Pure Malt Creation is like a failed experiment compared to Pure Malt. Woody, musky and boring.

Metaholic

I own both the original and pure malt creation, there's IS a slight difference between the 2 but only slight!!. I'd say 10% woodier smell in creation. Both smell fantastic and either is a winner so just purchase which ever one is available in your area. Longevity wise I still get whiffs of creation alot longer into the dry down than I do in the original.
I think both are still reasonably priced and available online but not sure whether they have gone through any reformulation since thierry mugler changed their brand to MUGLER.

mszigetihu

This is what the original Pure Malt should have been from the start.

No, this is not a repackaged Pure Malt. I have experience with both and while Pure Malt doesn't work on me at all, this one does the magic.

What i get with Pure Malt is a burnt-rubber smell with horrible longevity. I also don't get any of the good stuff, like whisky and caramel. Pure Malt Creation fixed it all for me.

scentitar

Pure malt with a bright and aromatic whisky side.

This makes this fragrance more playful and less sweet and resinous, so there are certainly differences here.

I sadly got less projection and longevity, fair projection and 3 to 5 hours longevity.

I wish this was in a stronger concentration, but this certainly is special and could be worn at formal parties and holidays.

A Special and ellusive critter here

BIBLEBOY

PureMalt in different flask.

muotarek

This is Pure Malt 100% but it performs way better, boozy fruity in a very very good way, very well blended and not cloying. this is incredible juice, I'M IN LOVE.

jason.luedtke

It is 100% the exact same as Pure Malt.. only difference is the prism effect flacon. I did the test's, I own bottles of both & my results, unfortunately revealed that it is 100% exactly the same juice, not even a slight variationtweak to the formula. Nothing!
do not be fooled by anybody else who is touting a difference, or better performance, or higher sillage, or more compliments.. they are either lyingor pulling your chain, or even worse - the never even tried both and are just trying to sound learned.

Respectfully.

RobbieX

A beautiful smooth and boozy and fruity perfume. Excellent silage and longevity. Grabs your attention. This juice is good.

I see alot of comparisons between Pure Malt and Pure Malt Creation. PMC is the one for me! Mugler A*Men DNA is too loud and synthetic IMO. They do a better job with it in PM, but PMC takes the prize. Its smooth, cream, and subtle. It gets the A*Men signature DNA point across with maturity. Where PM and Pure Havane gets too loud and synthic, PMC smooths it out with creaminess. Yes I threw Pure Havane under the bus. But it doesnt remove the sweetness of PM. So you get this nice unique gourmet frangrance suitable for casual and dressy events.

Donjuandemarco

The opening of PMC a bit similar to PM, 10mins- 4 hours very similar to PM, then in the post drydown (4 hours till skin scent) it is 90% similar to the opening of the original A*men

desdekid

It feels unisex, I love it and wear it successfully.

thiagomartini

90~95% the same as original Pure Malt.

The difference is on the focus of the notes. On this, the "star" is caramel, while in PM is the dried fruit accord. To my nose, this makes original PM a little more harsh, and Creation more subtle and round.

Performance-wise, both are long lasting, but original Malt projected more on my skin, maybe because the fruity accord is more noticeable.

After several full wears of my PM bottle and a decant of Creation, I don't see any reasons to get a full bottle of Creation, other than collection purposes.

sergie.allen

Pure malt creation is a verry sweet smooth fragrance the top 5 main notes are caramel whiskey fruty coffee vanillie and it is like 80% same as the original pure malt but pure malt creation is smoother and sweeter that,s all and projects a little better get pure malt insteed because they are verry close

sergie.allen

Pure malt is better

kenconcepcion33

Smells great.. Usually I use 2 or 3 spray.. And today my friends came to me and borrow this fragrance, he use almost upto 10 spray..

sergie.allen

Pure malt is better...both have the same dna ..but on top pure malt is better

sergie.allen

I,ve smell both pure malt and pure malt creation tester but i don,t have them yet and pure malt is the one i wil get because it smells stronger whit the caramel vanillie chocolade koffie and patchouli whit the whiskey and berries in the drydown....and pure malt creation is smoother and has abit more ingrendiets but pure malt is abit better and they are almost the same

amirali0072000

It's delicious ,it is not similar to the original Pure Malt.. They both smelt the same to my nose when I compared .It's delicious with the whisky, caramel and fruity notes... I love especially the first hours when it's more boozy. I've tried most of the A*men line and this is by far my favorite.
Scent6/10
Longevity 8/10
Projection7/10
I preferwearing it in cold weather.
سمپل ارجینال جهت تست موجود است

sergie.allen

People are saying both smell good like almost 80% same smell but pure malt is a better smell .....pure malt smells like sweet berries caramel whiskey vanillie amber patchouli chocolde and it,s so freaking amazingly blended and delicious... pure malt is the best and it is a wonderfull masterpiece

sergie.allen

Which one is better of smell???

Bigsly

I have a March, 2015 bottle. I also tried original PM during 2009, and I can't say I would be able to detect a difference. At that time, my sensitivity was very high, and the boozy quality came across as overbearing, but now my overall sensitivity is low (but apparently high for certain aroma chemicals); I enjoy the scent and it seems like the balance is right. After all, if the scent is called Pure Malt, you should get a strong boozy quality! And that leads me to a point about why this scent has been so popular: it does what one expects it to, especially for those who don't have that much experience. In other words, a lot of newbies read the notes and are disappointed. They see tobacco or leather or coffee, etc. listed, but they can't smell it. After a while, one gets used to the fictional notes, but the newbie doesn't necessarily understand the way the industry works. Mugler scents, though, usually deliver, at least relative to most designers these days.

techno1980

better than original pure malt, more defined and stronger smell, way better longevity and projection.

mamoon

First i didnt like it but when it start to dry down it became amazing sweet and rich and delicious and very well blended specially for cold days less fruity than the original pure malt and not harsh like the a*men ,projection is good and longevity is amazing, but not safe as a blind buy .
the only think i didnt like was the bottle it look as made from cheap recycled plastic, but the box was the best fragrance box i ve seen. It alsoo had an invitation with a code to join the mugler circle club but it wasnot supported in my country

Joeri

Rainy day. I put on a few drops ( maybe the equivalent of half a spray if the sprayer would function normally ) and went to the bookstore. Noticed a lot of people staring. Guess it can be a bit too strong, even with a minimal dose.

Chicago Tony T

This was simply a marketing tool used by Mugler. It's basically the same as Pure Malt with a few minor tweaks. It was not available for more than a year I believe and now it's discontinued. There are samples available on Ebay if you are curious and simply want to compare this to the original but I strongly advise against paying a ridiculous price for the full bottle when you can get the original for $60-$80 bucks. BTW, I love both but it's no need to own both.

Such a magical drydown! I thought the opening is my fav, but the drydown is really something special, something from another world :) LOVE IT! <3

Chiep07

Ive bought a Pure Malt on the internet, but this (gold star on the bottle & strange box) arrived instead. so Iv thought its the fake one. Tested & its smell difference from PMalt, but the top note not bad then it turns to A*men vibe (coffee, caremel, patchouli & woody scent). The seller insist its the original Pure Malt. Then every day I spray it all over my room just bcos dont want to keep it & wanna finish the juice quickly till Iv found this on fragrantica. The seller should state that there is another Pure Malt version & it is Pure Malt Creation.

So imho, The Original PM is more unique than PMC to me because in PMC your can easily recognize the A*men vibe but....Im getting to love the top note of PMC

ThEnAuGhTyPrOf.

Kicking myself, I didn't buy 2 or 3 back-up bottles of this masterpiece.... Can't find it ANYWHERE these days.... What a marketing concept: "aged & toasted in oak caskets"!!! For me, like sitting by a crackling fire in the dead of winter reading a mystery novel and enjoying a toasty snifter half-full of Louis Treize Cognac........!!!

So glad the ebay seller added a little miniature spray of this when I bought Angel Sunessence. Normally not a big fan of mens fragrances, due to them being far too strong for me. But this is wonderful, it's buttery and sweet like toffee with a slight boozey edge to it. Absolutly heavenly.

Yogamarc

Finally got to try this on today and it was a little too close to Angel original for me. The signature angel scent with a touch of beer. I expected more but wasn't impressed. I liked it- It neither repelled me or inspired me.

این ادکلن هم مانند پیور مالت اصلی فوق العاده خوشبو و بینظیر است
تنها فرقی که دارد این است که کمی شیرین تر و شکلاتی تر شده
ولی در یک کلام این هم عالی است

Juke

Sweetness mixed with rum, served in an aged oak mug- just the way I like it!
Projection is great and very long lasting too. My best Thierry Mugler so far and my sexy, night-crawling go-to perfume!

meysam vazifeh

pure malt creation is a sweet , sexy and hot perfume
Reminiscent of pure malt
This condition occurs in about 1 hour
after several second a bitter smell combined with previous scent but it is not heavy
"creation" is very sweet ( Smells like sweet cream )
The combination of honey , vanilla , caramel and Gums
but vanilla is dominant
after 15 min will be woody and some spicy with sweet smell
honestly i thought pure malt creation just 40 percent similar original pure malt
but in first 1 hours ، More like to original pure malt

adeeb90live

Blind bought it, and initially didn't like it. But this slowly grew on me.
Now i feel this is the Best Winter fragrance in my collection.
The highest rated fragrance I've come across on Fragrantica yet and it totally deserves the attention.
It truly is better than the best(Pure malt).

rowan.walters

I confess that I'm not a huge fan of the original A men, although I absolutely adore some of the flankers - the original Pure Malt was the first that captivated me, and Pure Malt Creation 2013 has earned a place in my heart and in my fragrance wardrobe as a faithful companion that I seek out when I feel (or need to feel) warm, playful and relaxed.
It seems to me that this is somehow "richer", and more refined and more complex than the original Pure Malt, yet I can't quite put my finger on why I prefer the newer frag.
On a side-by-side wearing of each on different wrists they are similar but I find Creation 2013 somehow more appealing, with its beautiful, sweet, slightly woody, boozy note that evokes the aroma of fine Scotch whisky reminiscent of the way Escada Magnetism for Men evokes the aroma of red wine.
A fantastic concept. Scotch has always had a historical reputation for class, quality, and style, and it's golden-ambery appeal is legendary.
Personally I find that scotch smells much nicer than it tastes, although I would love to find some that tastes the way Pure Malt smells.
It is awesome that Thierry Mugler has re-released Pure Malt in its new, improved Creation 2013 incarnation - a very smart move which shows that this great house is responsive to the desires of fans and aficionados alike, and as the original A Men secured its place in fragrance history I have no doubt that Pure Malt is equally worthy of status as a classic and in many ways revolutionary fragrance.
In their most fundamental forms there is great smiliarity between the distilling of alcoholic beverages and the distilling of fragrances so it's kind of a logical progression to apply the techniques of the former to the latter, and if this is the result of the application of whisky technology then it deserves a standing ovation.
Although I don't like the original A Men, I absolutely adore this masterpiece.
It is sophisticated, elegant and universally appealing, wearable in almost any scenario of modern life, has better longevity and silage than its predecessor, and as so many others have noted, I can't stop smelling my wrist whenever I'm wearing it.
Someone suggested to me that the original A Men can be a love-hate frag because of its potency and the presence of certain notes that many dislike, and I certainly agree, however I find that in contrast, Pure Malt is a universal crowd-pleaser since it fortunately lacks the more controversial, less pleasant notes of its parent, while paying homage.
J'adore.
I can see that I'm going to have to stock up on this one, since it is one of those scents that I find so pleasurable that I often wear it at around the house for my own delight.
I really hope that this beauty will remain in production for some time, and I have no doubt that Thierry Mugler will release another version some time in the future to mystify and charm us further. A masterpiece!

blauriche

I don't know how similar this is to the original Pure Malt, but I'd say that it's a pleasant smell but it lacks longevity. It seemed much more wearable then A*Men, but I wouldn't buy it because it doesn't last very long on my skin at all.

A lovely A*Men note with coffee, fruits and some booze. Definite tobacco and caramel notes too and It's potent. This juice is really good quality! I can't stop sniffing my forearm! 9/10

Elaborating of the topic of perfume is like reckoning of magic. Even if someone does not believe in magic, she or he is carrying a sense of fear towards it. Perfumes are most of the time relating to human souls in just about the same manner.
A perfume, liked or dislike, touches us from the inside of our beings. A perfume makes you feel something, be it good or bad. Perfumes are designed to affect your internal sense of mood; they are made to alter or even create your mood and sense of momentary being for certain time... From this perspective, perfumers are giant mood creators; or even souls' 'players'... So, should we talk about perfumes superficially anymore. For instance, if a perfume touches your inside creatively, remember not only the notes, but also the soul who designed it to delight you from innermost.

TadCat

i prefer this over the original pure malt, but i have to admit i love both. Normally, i'm not a big fan of sweet scents but this one is just really nice, the malt and fruit scents stand out a lot for me. Pure malt is really "warm" smelling, and is perfect for winter nights.

josevancouver

I have both the original Pure Malt and Pure Malt creation. I actually thought all along they were exactly the same, but there are slight differences. The main difference to me is that I can smell more dried fruit with Pure Malt creation, which gives it a slightly lighter vibe for me. This is a nice scent - definitely something I will be wearing in the colder months. I actually prefer this over the original Pure Malt (by a bit).

ritsjoey

A*Men Pure Malt Creation is a perfect example of a fragrance where so many things could've gone wrong. Could've been too sweet, or spicy, or boozy or too fruity. But this juice is a masterclass in blending ingredients. Some ingredients obviously shine above others but the end-product really smells like each ingredient belonged there. The whisky note that comes through is not the dirty, peaty smell - it's the sophisticated, refined smell of really expensive single malts.

It's not hard to fall in love with this juice. Even if you are not impressed at the first sniff, you'll find yourself sniffing your wrist again and again. It can be a little cloying, so spray with caution. Both, the longevity and the sillage are strong.

An excellent fragrance for dates and while clubbing, this will not let you down. A complete winner!

Overall: 4.8

after getting my pure malt creation, there is a difference to me in the opening, a sweeter version perhaps? still has the dna of the original. trying it on the top of my wrist and the original on the other. The original is still a remarkable fragrance and creation is so very close to me. It does seem to have a little better longevity but not overwhelmingly so. Better projection at first. I really believe those who have pure malt and love it like I do, I say don't think there is any reason to dump your bottle for this one. I still have half of my original left and now have this. I have not tried it in the office yet. I think I need some more time with it to really define if there are distinct differences or do I want there to be?.. Overall it is a great fragrance bearing the same fragrant beauty as the USA version I have with perhaps a sweeter overall aroma.

overtime I may notice something more that will distinguish this to a solid conclusion but for now I will just give it a thumbs up, rating it as if I had never smelled my version (whatever year it is? I can't recall)before.
Don't lose sleep over this, both are winners, I would be stoked with either.

I am going to play with blending them.. see what this combination smells like.

Pete89

Don't be scared by the '2013 Creation' on the box. On the contrary, this 'revived' Pure Malt is everything the original was, and even more! Same quality, same delicious mix of fruit, whiskey and caramel, but with slightly improved longevity and projection. I will wear this remarkable gourmand for many nights to come.

mehdi.gh

i love it men so sexy

psebi101

It's delicious with the whiskey, caramel and fruity notes...gourmand indeed. I love especially the first hours when it's more boozy. I've tried most of the A*men line and this is by far my favorite.
Good performance as well but I'm not a fan of the sprayer, they should change it.

Scent: 8/10
Longevity: 9/10
Projection: 8/10

aqua_de_la_vita

I bought this frag during the summer months. I waited to give my review until the fall when most change from spring/summer fragrance.
I ♥ the opening aroma of a sweet boozy vib. I'm able to pick up caramel adding to the warm sweet scent. As it dries back I can pick up a fruity/spicy scent...I can barely pick up a cool mint/lavender tone without spoiling the complex aroma. I TOTALLY agree this frag is definitely better than A*Men.
longevity and Silage are very high lasting well past 8hrs..excellent!
Finally opinion,
This was a blind purchase hoping that it wouldn't be as sweet overall. The boozy note of whisky and carmel is a weird combination that you would think spells disaster. Instead this fragrance has a unique blend of different notes coming together beautifully making it ABSOLUTELY STUPENDOUS! One last comment...where's the milk...lol. Rating this fragrance is easily 9/10..perfect during the fall and winter months!!! I would recommend it for those who enjoy Thierry Mugler's fragrance's.

"The fragrance is aged in toasted American oak casks to reveal a smoky fragrance that is subtly peaty."

Do they really expect us to believe this?

I haven't smelled the first release and don't know if they are the same or not. Anyway, the oak casks story sounds very unrealistic.

Guilherme Fernandes

I tested Pure Malt creation this week at Geneva Airport.
It's fantastic.
whiskey, fruity and caramel in a fantastic combination.
sweet but not too much and way better than the original A*men and Pure Leather.

Great longevity: 10 hours
and greatsillage: moderate about 6 hours.

I asked the customer service in Germany if this and pure malt were different and and they wrote back...

Dear...

there is no difference.

Best regards,

however...from london they wrote me this...

Thank you for taking the time to email Thierry Mugler Parfum UK.

I am in receipt of your message regarding the difference between the original A*Men Pure Malt and the A*Men Pure Malt Liqueur de Parfum Creation 2013.

I can confirm that these fragrances are different to each other. The original A*Men Pure Malt is a combination of the Pure Malt Whisky note and the original A*Men Eau de Toilette fragrance. The woody notes of cedar wood and patchouli and the powerful notes of coffee already present in the original A*Men Eau de Toilette intensify the combination. The fragrance is then further distilled using modern technology.

The new limited edition range ‘Liqueur de Parfum’ is subtly different. The A*Men Pure Malt 2013 is a fusion of A*Men and the world of fine spirits, made possible by a patented method inspired by traditional techniques used to produce the finest Whiskies. The fragrance is aged in toasted American oak casks to reveal a smoky fragrance that is subtly peaty.

Due to its limited nature we unfortunately do not carry any samples of these fragrances however there are a select few stores who are selling the original A*Men Pure Malt such as Harrods London, Selfridges London, Birmingham, Manchester Trafford, Frasers Glasgow and House of Fraser Birmingham.

Once again, thank you for your time and I hope you will continue to enjoy the magic that is Mugler.

Kind Regards

I guess I should believe the last source...it seems a great one though

RobbieX

Lovely, potent, sweet and gorgeous. I can detect, whisky, fruits and tobacco notes. Lasts and projects really well. Later on the honey comes through more with the coffee and, of course, patchoulli. The A*Men note is also present. Fantastic men's fragrance!

I really want to try this one!! anyone thats wants to sell there bottle or have more than one please PM me :) Check my collection and see what yall like! Im in the states so this is alittle harder to get here

I have both Pure Malt and Pure Malt creation. They are identical. However, I have the impression that Creation lasts longer and projects more. Am I biaised?

kanak

A Men Pure Malt Creation is just yummy! A wonderfully blended concoction of Caramel, honey, malt, vanilla, creamy milk notes and candied fruits. I smelled the original Pure Malt a few years ago and while I dont have a sample at hand for a side by side test, they are quite similar to my nose if not identical. Monstrous projection for the first couple of hours ( My Dad who was sitting 8 feet away smelled it when I walked into the room) and then settles down for the next 6+ hours of it's life span. Winter and cooler weather frag mostly and a Great frag for a night out or a date as this smells so delicious, you just might end up being dessert if you play your cards right! A really nice gourmand. 9/10

jovejove

A heard a something from a little birdie that you might be able to find Malt, Coffee and Havane again in the fall...but just a rumour ;)

mmironov

I had a funny experience last week. Early in the morning I caught a taxi minutes after applying PM Creation. Still in the taxi, while I was thinking to myself how rich and gorgeous this scent is, the taxi driver asked very serious "Can you smell a burnt cable?" I was like "What? Noooo!" Haha!

It's an amazing fragrance, anyway. I think the whiskey note makes it more casual while at the same time more special than original A*Men.

ozzypb

Gorgeous scent, far best then the original.

PaulW

It's most unfortunate that Pure Malt Creation 2013 (PMC 2013) was not brought into USA due to a business decision that it's "similar" to original Pure Malt (PM). However, note that "similar" does not mean exactly the same. 2 reviewers elsewhere have said that PMC 2013 is 80% similar to the original PM, except that PMC 2013 has more ingredients in it, smells smoother, is slightly sweeter, but projects more and last even longer than original PM. Although both are EDTs, a simple analogy would be if original PM is EDT strength, then PMC 2013 is practically EDP strength. If you like PM, you should get hold of PMC 2013. Watch "Fragrance VERSUS - A*Men Pure Malt VS A*Men Pure Malt Creation 2013" on the tube. Once you compare, you'll know that PMC 2013 is the one to get.

gzalvares

Basically the same as PM, but the fruit notes are more pronounced from the opening to the drydown. But it is more pungent and has better sillage!

Rossyh

When I first tried Pure Malt I really didn't see what the big deal was about and was bitterly disappointed, so much so that I didn't touch it for a week with no real intention to again. Before going out one day I was in a rush and grabbed the closest fragrance I could find and thus sprayed this. Suddenly this fragrance which I really wasn't keen on hit me and I fell in love with it.

Maybe it was because I'm fairly new to fragrance collecting and my nose had never smelled anything so bold as a Pure Malt before and didn't know what to think, but it clearly didn't need more than a 2nd chance to appreciate it.

From my personal experience I would be weary of when to wear this, as if someone who's into fragrances like me wasn't sure what to make of it at first, I'd be surprised if your average Joe would appreciate it like so many of us do. One thing I couldn't see anyone disliking though is the incredible dry down, which is on par with the perfect DHI for me.

I still just about prefer Pure Havanne over this for overall smell alone but for projection and longevity it wins hands down against its brother.

10/10.

toxicben

Just got this but I don't think I'm going to keep it.
The opening is WAY too sweet.
I love sweet smells usually but this one is way over the top for me.
Its very fruity and synthetic on top, kind of like those liqueur filled chocolates with cherry filling. really really sweet.
After an hour or two however it becomes much more subdued.
Creamy and caramel, some coffee and of course the whiskey.
But I just cant get past the opening, it kills me every time.
Silage and longevity are absolutely amazing though. 24 hours on my skin, even after i shower i can still smell it there.
Beast!

biggkingg

Amazing scent, amazing silage and good longevity.
IMO, the best from Thierry Mugler and in my top 3 all time best scents.
Sweet, mellow, manly.
Easy to wear, not cloying at all.
9.5/10

Jose Marcos

Yes, they are pretty much the same, but ... however Creation seems louder, ... I was wrong about Louder, in fact it is more concentreted, it has more body, if it makes any sense, because I think PMC projects less than the original 2009 formula, ... and sweeter, and also less boozy. I can defenetely smell lavanrder and mint stronger which makes it a bit easier to wear in warmer weather. If I had to choose I would pick my left arm, Pure Malt Creation.

pjd1234

Okay not a final review but first impressions from top to buttom a total love for me although it has some similarities with the vintage pure malt i find this one a lot sweeter. Creation is a lot close to the original A AMEN and the vintage is its own identity. I dont find creation as boozy as the vintage but definitely more gormandish this is by far the perfect interpretation of the original A MEN in my opinion without the harsh tar note definitely a winner on 1 spray last about 8 hours on me with decent projection a winner again from this line I LOVE IT and by the way a female can pull this off.

dubairob

Now this is what is truly meant when people talk about gourmand fragrances.

Pure Malt Creation is not just a whisky imbued fragrance, it is one which carries caramelized fruit, milky vanilla, honey and coffee, all served on a sandalwood table strewn with various leaves. When I first breathed it in (one does not lightly sniff this, impulsively you will find yourself engulfing it in), my mind shuddered. It seemed like the epitome of a rich, complex, yet entirely modern fragrance - and one which does not get too 'fussy' or perfumey. It has tremendous richness and depth - possibly more than the original - and definitely does suggest high quality and good materials.

Pure Malt Creation is long-lasting with enough development to keep interest and enough projection (but certainly not too much). After four or five hours it will sit closer the skin, but in warmer room environments it will give nice projection even after that time. Personally, I wore this in the evenings on a ski-holiday at Christmas in Mayerhofen and it was just perfect. (Perfectly complemented the Burberry London I was wearing during the day.)

Highly recommended try - especially as a Winter evening fragrance.

i don't know what it is, but this stuff is wild. amazing. classy. boozy. just awesome.

love the the smoky, fruit tinged boozy opening. havn't smelt the 'original' PM but what i've read its the same..

i spray 2 on the chest 1 on the wrist 2 on the neck and one on the shirt.

lasts pretty well, 5-7 hours at least. then i loose the scent/goes to a skin scent imo... but like the original A*men, people can smell it well after i loose the scent.

i put this up with Dior homme Intense & YSL la nuit del homme, as being one of the all time best scents to wear out.

i also think you can pull this off in the summer as well, if you go easier on the sprays

tige60

Have to agree with Terry Lennox posting...this 2013 version just doesn't seem to have much longevity on me...have sprayed numerous throughout the day and always seems to fade to a whisper within a few hours...the Pure Leather on the other hand, seems to last 6= hours on me and the sillage is quite heavy also...just ordered Pure Havane and hope that has better longevity on me...having said this, I do like the Pure Malt 2013 notes...just wish it had better longevity and sillage...Really LOVE the Mugler line-up and hope and pray the they relaunch a Pure Coffee in the near future...how about a Pure Mocha Extreme (with a hint of licorice)?

Ruud030

This fragrance is really good!! Pure magic!!

AndrzejK

Pure Malt Creation is a nice scent but I prefer the original A*Men. PMC is sweet and fruity but lacks this strong note of coffee, patchouli and spices I like in the original. On my skin the note of whiskey does not exist unfortunately. It is also poor in terms of longevity and sillage and very close to the skin for a very short time; nobody can smell it on me.

warlockss

people are saying this smells stronger ? the original pure malt has already gone up in price , so i think they have already discontinued the old formulation and are now making this new 2013 formulation only .

Dear Bill,

Unfortunately we will not be bringing the Amen Pure Malt creation in the United States.

when I inquired with mugler stores usa about this fragrance, this was the reply I received..as I was asking why it was not included in the creation group of fragrances.. all I told them was look out ebay. it is shame they do this.. I did tell them I have the original puremalt which I indeed purchased 2 bottles of it when it was re released.. disappointing that this is the style, I did ask why ? but so far no explanation.. I saw here that someone purchased this fragrance thru mugler stores usa? the celestially yours was interesting.. I felt like saying it is a perfume or cologne , it is not some drug curing cancer. I love being fragrance enthusiast. I view it like art .. a perfumers creation,i especially see that on the niche side of things, as they take chances, they are creating their art..the production side comes later.. two thumbs down on mugler but probably would be a thumbs up on the fragrance.. just thought I would share.

robg303

Angel Man is one of my all time favorite fragrances, particularly for cold weather.
I really like the women's version also.

This new Pure Malt is interesting? It does indeed smell like Whiskey with some fruits, spices and a little chocolate and caramel. I really like it because it seems befitting the holiday season.

I can't imagine what other fragrances would be as well suited for a Christmas party or other holiday gathering, but this one seems perfect.

It's boozy, warm and sweet, sure to be a hit at any bar, club or gathering where drinks are served.

As matter of fact, just like the Pure Coffee always gave me a craving for espresso drinks, this new Pure Malt makes me want a stiff, old fashioned Whiskey, Scotch or Bourbon and I don't even drink!

"Bartender, can I have a non-alcohaulic Whiskey?"

Jason Harrison

Best layered with Angel Men then becomes simply `biblical` in its magnitude and bearing!

Bruno2theV

Well this one caught me by surprise, especcially after I ordered a bottle of the original from ebay and saw that this one would be released this year. I actually couldn't wait to try this one, and when I did my nose told me instantly: "It is the same one".

I am sure lots of people can say that it is the same one as 2009. I can smell some differences.

The fruity notes are there as in the original, as is the malt and peat. But after a few hours, it turn into a coffee blend with caramel and chocolate, and it is here where the fusion with A*Men (Original-1996)shows up. In the original Pure Malt, I could smell the caramel and the chocolate in it, but this one its smells different, it smells stronger maybe because of the vanilla.
Either way, it's good to bring back a classic if you say that this is the same one, or not, this is a great fragrance and my new addiction. Perfect for the winter cold days and nights. The bottle is simply one of the best ones I ever seen, the gold mirroed star is a great feature to the bottle.

If "re-releasing" old fragrances as new fragrances is going to be a trend for Thierry Mugler (remember Pure Energy) I don't oppose. I would really like to see a Pure Havane Spirit or a Pure Coffee Blend of even a Gourmet of Fragrances (Pure Chilli).

Let's see if he can surprise us next year

sasim89

It's exactly the same as original Pure Malt. Smell, longevity and sillage are identical. Only the bottle is different and I prefer the old one..

hasanadeel

Simply awesome stuff, a beast of projection and longevity !!

Houdini4

Okay so this is day two of straight up comparison and contrary to what I have said below there's a definite...definite difference between these two.
Absolutely no doubt about it pure malt creation is smoother and sweeter. To be more accurate actually it removes the slightly unpleasant, tinge A*Men has (which makes it sort of interesting actually) and without that barrier you can access the sweetness more easily.
Why I never??? The barrel thing actually works!!!
It is actually malty, as you spray it right out if the bottle there's a malty, whiskey note that I never really got yesterday.
Strikingly similar but honestly I prefer this to the original for sure...what a difference a day makes!
I hope they've not sold out.

Houdini4

Have to say I agree with @merekkalinowski very little difference between this an the original. The sales assistant (a very pleasant French lady) was so eager to tell me the story about the whiskey casks and how exclusive this juice was, which was nice actually as most I talk to don't have a clue about fragrances or show any real enthusiasm.
I have to look at the process with some scepticism because as a man of science I believe it's pure chemistry and I'm not sure how much perfume can be infused with character in this manner. As a romantic I would love these processes to be possible (oak barrel aging, smoking etc...) because it makes the artistry of perfumery even more magical but I think in this case it maybe a bit of a gimmick.
That being Said...trying them side by side as I am at the moment, I get a slight(and I do mean very slight) difference between them.
It's not enough really for me to warrant any change from my position on the original A*Men, it's a wonderful complex, oriental, spicy fragrance.
I'm glad the whiskey, maltiness is not maximised because I was always reluctant to try because of this but it's subtle...very subtle! If you're somebody who really picks up on the difference between these and love it then good for you because this is a great smelling fragrance and it's £20 cheaper than the original so I'd chose this version even if just from a financial point of view.

iamfcon

I have not tried this, but judging by the notes list, how on earth is everyone saying this is nearly identical to the original pure malt? If caramel notes are the most detected, this is certainly not like the original (which I'm currently wearing as I type this). This seems like it would be a hell of a lot more complex, I'd be too curious NOT to try it, and even if it ends up identical (somehow), I wouldn't be disappointed, pure malt is a monster in itself, in a good way. And just in time for the Halloween festivities of this year as well.

Mo12

This is a phenomenal fragrance. I bought this blind from a store that was offering limited amount of preorders and was not disappointed. I am so glad I got my hand on this. Pure Malt makes most of the other fragrances out there seem boring in comparison. Easily the best cologne I have owned yet.

It smells amazingly sophisticated but also primal (in a good way). A sweet fragrance that is refreshing and warming at the same time. Beautifully crafted by Thierry Mugler!

Pure Malt 2013 reminds me of an overcast afternoon in the late Canadian falls when the frost has finally started to become a regularity and the greeneries have all turned into heterogeneous mixtures of yellow and red.

It really is the perfect scent for fall but definitely great for other seasons as well (including summer! I don't find it very overpowering as long as you don't go over 2 sprays).

Blindbuy? Go for it! Especially if you're a fan of sweet fragrances.

Longevity: 9.5/10
Projection: 7.5/10
Smell: 10/10

harlemmal

Totally agree it is awesome. Every time I wear it I receive compliments. Longevity is excellent

russraff

If by similar they mean identical then I agree. In fact someone who worked for Mugler was at the local House of Fraser and she confirmed that there is no difference between Malt original and creations other than presentation. Which is no bad thing as Pure Malt is Pure Class.

jivanshi

I think he meant departure not as in "kicked the bucket", but as in sold his business out to Clarins. I don't think he's pushing up daisies yet.

jasonx

I've just received an email from Mugler website a couple days ago advertising for the 2013 Liqueur de Parfum

In the ad they advertise about the new liqueur version of Angel, Alien, Womanity and guess what the old Pure Malt. Since Mugler's departure earlier this year, the Mugler fragrance line has become a mess with confusing information regarding their releases

Valfar

Well, i was expecting something a bit different than the original Pure Malt but, nothing. It's exactly the same, only the bottle is a bit different, the star is more shiny. BUT! Apparently this one lasts longer on my skin than the original. It has a slightly better longevity than the original, but nothing more. If you already own Pure Malt, don't buy this one because it would be pointless

jovejove

Pick this up quick, because we've almost sold out of it. Got it last week and we're 90% sold in our store. People love this one!

jivanshi

So, after all, this is different from a fragrance formerly known as Pure Malt in the sense that it's not as long lasting? If anything, an old perfume stored improperly tends to shed it's opening - the heart, base and longevity remaining the same afaik.

kaysee

fruity and musky with a hint of the original Amen. But for some reason doesn't last too long on my skin. Maybe coz i got it from the airport? I've heard before that airport fragrances are too old and lack longevity. is that true? anybody knows?

tenortelfer

I bought 3 bottles of Pure Malt a year ago as I liked it so much. Also I feared it would run out being a limited edition.I tried this version today and it's identical to Pure Malt.Call me Mr Cynical if you like, but I'll think twice before stocking up on limited editions again!Great fragrance though,no doubt!

saadiz_flava

This is one of the best colognes that I have come across. And I don't comment on fragrances often.
I mean the warmth and coziness that you and people around you feel after putting this juice is mind-blowing. There are very few colognes out there which actually accommodates class and energy at the same time with a proper balance. Many a times one overdo the other. But with this one can't go wrong. Although I believe one needs to have a certain kind of personality to carry this. Mugler have made a masterpiece and its unique in its own description. I am glad that I was lucky enough to have come across this.

Projection: 8.5/10
Longevity: 10/10
Uniqueness: 9/10
Fragrance: 10/10

Its preferable for fall and winter.

marekkalinowski

A*Men pure malt is exactly the same as the original one just with the hint and i mean just the hint of a fruity smell. that's all.Just been to Selfridges in London and smelled all of them . angel is the only one smelling slightly different to the original A.L. quite nice though. Alien ,Womanity and A*Man smell exactly the sameas they originals. I know people are saying - 'no they are different becase it says in the description' rubbish my friends. I love Thierry M.a lot and i do weare his stuff most days.but enough is enough, Rerelising 'new' flankers every 6 month just keeps them ( Clarins )going.
What i want to point out is the look of the bottles, not good at all. they look very cheap and chaildish and the plastic is like from the fair ground. They skimmed on the finish- shame. Won't be buying any of those i m afraid despite having most of T.M. fragrance. Thats all folks. try before you buy - my advise

601red

@guilleRubio,

I don't see this in all three Macy's in my area...

I bought my online from muglerstoreusa.com (play safe, buy from the source).

dozza14

It is a totally different scent, obviously similar but if you smell the two together they are quite different. original is more peppery and preferable to me. Always good scents and really good price for such long lasting fragrances!

ahep2007

I bought this online from Selfridges with the expectation that this would be different to the original Pure Malt. Disappointingly, it smells identical. A very lazy and pointless release from the Mugler house.

I smelled this and there's no real difference between the original Pure Malt. They both smelt the same to my nose when I compared them simultaneously.

@egeli,
The notes described for the "original" Pure Malt are very vague. you can not rely on them to make a judgment about the possible difference.

as I said the first time, it may be the same scent, with another pack.

The fact that Fragrantica list other notes may mean that now the real notes are listed.

But we're only speculating and feeding other speculations.

Only our nose can show the truth. So now it is time for patience until someone who has the new version make your analysis

I emailed the Mugler people and they had this to say: (on if it was was the same as the 2009 version)Our Amen Pure Malt is our original Amen Pure Malt, we brought it back after popoular demand and it is limited edition. Same ingredients, same amazing smell.

I bought this fragrance today and unfortunately I have never smelled the original Pure Malt so I can't make a comparison. The box is silver and it mentions "Eau de toilette sublimée en fût de chêne". Ill copy/paste what is written on my box:
"Discover the fusion between A*men and the world of spirits thanks to a patented method inspired by traditional techniques used to produce the finest Whiskies. A*men Pure Malt Creation 2013 is aged in toasted oak casks to reveal a smoky fragrance imbued with elegance, intensifying a lingering note that is subtly peaty and exeptionally noble. Do not drink"
To me this is described as an original A*men flanker and not really a new Pure Malt. They don't talk about the "original" Pure Malt so that's why I'm saying this. Also, I'd like to add that under the bottle, I see the A*men logo and below it's written Pure Malt (NO "creation" after Pure Malt") and below this you have the TM logo. This makes me think that this Pure Malt Creation may be the same as the original, only new presentation. I may be wrong, like I've said I never smelled the original, but so far the few people that have smelled it say that it smells the same as the original.
So far I love this fragrance. There are similarities with A*men (I don't like this one) but this is much smoother and better in my opinion. It has this boozy and warming feel that will be very comforting in the cold weather of Québec.

foxmulder_FBI:

"A*Men Pure Malt was created in 2009 in honour of traditional Scottish whiskey and its smoky, woody-spicy aromas. Result is a surprising composition which makes this fragrance elegant and sophisticated. A*Men Pure Malt is available as 100ml edt.

Last year's edition is A*Men Pure Coffee, a reinterpretation of the original A*Men, with an accent on coffee aromas. Top notes: fruity notes; Heart notes: woddy notes, malt; Base notes: oriental accords, smoky accords, peat."

From the original Pure Malt. Totally different notes, different production methods, and most definitely from a new line of revamped editions of TM classics, inspired by fine spirits.

@asher.jessie, Believe me, we all can read :)
And to prove it, I can say that we can also read the same description in the box of the Pure Malt we already have.

Well, to be honest, I did notice something...

The only difference between descriptions is that here in Fragrantica they say: "(...) to reveal a smoky fragrance imbued with elegance(...) ", while my box say "(...)to reveal a fragrance imbued with elegance (...)".

So this is it? The new one is more smoky then the older one?

Hum....

One is more fruity and the other more smoky...

OMG, not again... :)

Can't you all read? This is part of a new line inspired by spirits. It's a variation of the original Pure Malt, but with a "patented method inspired by traditional techniques used to produce the finest Whiskies. Amen Pure Malt is aged in toasted oak caskets to reveal a smoky fragrance imbued with elegance, intensifying a lingering note that is subtly peaty and exceptionally noble."

It's right there in the description.

Anyone knows if this is the same scent of 2009 by Thierry Mugler?
