Alien Musc Mysterieux by Mugler is a Amber Woody fragrance for women. Alien Musc Mysterieux was launched in 2017. The nose behind this fragrance is Dominique Ropion. Top notes are Spices and Saffron; middle notes are Jasmine Sambac and Cashmeran; base notes are White Musk and Vanilla.

Alien Amber is the subcollection of the Alien line from Thierry Mugler, where each creation pays tribute to a precious raw ingredient and is inspired by the Orient. The collection is made for "passionate lovers of rare perfumes and refined, elegant, raw materials." After the Alien Oud Majestueux edition with out from 2015, the collection expands with the new Alien Musc Mysterieux, inspired by musk.

Alien Musc Mysterieux represents “an invitation to travel on a journey that highlights and enhances musk, one of the noblest ingredients in perfumery." The oriental - woody - musk composition is developed by Dominique Ropion so that it retains the signature notes of Alien, like samba jasmine and cashmere, adding white musk enhanced by sensual vanilla, together with a mixture of spices and saffron.

The new Alien talisman bottle is inspired by the luxury of white gold. The fragrance is available as a 90 ml Eau de Parfum.

Thiery Mugler and Dominic Ropion at its best. Spicy saffron, strong, heady jasmine and saffron plus soft cashmeran with sweet vanilla. Heavy, aromatic, woody, musky old school Alien with a twist! Equally parts of jasmine, spices, musk, saffron and vanilla. The same rich, dark vanilla like the one used in Alien Essence Absolue, my all time favourite Alien. Discontinued as well..

It’s an oriental Alien, more Middle Eastern leaning, heavier than the original Alien. Lasts for days on clothing! Sadly, like all good designers perfumes, it’s discontinued nowadays!

It’s a precious gem in my collection.

Magellan0101

So very good...heavy, spicy, aromatic, and woody. I have 2 bottles of this one but I know it's discontinued in the U.S. if you like a statement perfume, with the perfect blend of spices and woods, this is for you. If you can find a bottle, it's worth the $$$...deffo unisex.

TheCandyperfumegirl

This is a head turner fragrance. Leaves a mysterious and beautiful Scent trail. If you love powdery spicy musky fragrances then you should give this gem a try.

oiprocs80

I'm glad I just purchased a sample. I love the original but I can not get past 5 minutes of this potent fragrance. All I can smell is hay and an huge blast of an animalic note...as in horse manure 🤢 so, if you have ever been in horse stables, you know the smell. I've tried my sample twice and both times I can't wait until it gets better, complete scrubber. I personally don't want a fragrance that I have to tolerate a smell like that just to wear.

batuhanavci

Regular Alien(pre-reformulation of course) is my all time favorite fragrance which is why I like to explore the flankers of it. Unfortunately, I don't smell the original Alien DNA in Alien Musc Mysterieux at all. This is an entirely different scent, a unique fragrance on its own. It's definitely made for the middle eastern market. It's a pass for me

ruxela

the comments about the colour of the liquid are correct!!!! take care with this when u spray!!!!!!

Luckyed

So I have owned this for several years and it is a fall favourite but the colour of the liquid is darkening with time despite being stored in the box. The liquid always had a bit of colour to it requiring care but it is now at the stage it is tricky to wear as the risk of transfer to clothing is so high.

Just a little warning for potential buyers of older bottles.

Creamy_ambrette

I’ve been lusting over this for a while now but at over $150-$200. No thanks.
I finally found a FB with the beautiful box for a very fair price. I ordered and waited. Today the post lady dropped off my packages.
After I ripped open the shipping box, I could already smell her!! I worried that it was leaking. Nope!
Opening the box is fun. It’s like a little museum piece. It’s makes it feel even more special. She opens up very spicy, but I can’t make out what I’m smelling. It’s medicinal saffron and mentholated vanilla -very much like Alien Essence Absolue but drier. It’s nowhere as sweet gooey and syrupy as AEA. AMM, has the same wonderfully voluptuous, sticky jasmine as Alien but it’s sitting beneath a thick fuzzy blanket of cashmere and musk. I also get hints of earthy, yet sweet root beer. It blooms wonderfully on my skin. Wow this is divine! I can’t wait to spend more time with her.
I did get a little oud in the opening but it’s very tame. More tame than Dior Oud Isaphan. So I enjoy a little bit of funk.

selinacat

Okay, THIS is a flanker. It has the Alien jasmine & musk. Then, it blooms into this really amazing almost Oud-like scent. The spices and Cashmere blur like a musty, floral, warm ice cream

Ashalia

I tried a sample of this perfume, and I am so glad that I didn't buy the bottle. It made me sick and I had to wash it off 15 minutes after application. Not a safe blind buy, get a sample!

Hunia

This smells like and Alien NICHE edition made by Roja Dove himself :D
Super high quality dark niche juice right here

CathyNoo

I can't stand those first 15 - 20 minutes of very strong animalic barnyard accord. When you survive this part, it becomes very pleasant, especially on the dry down. It's got an original Alien dna, but reminds me more of Alien Oud Majestueux.

rude_wasp

Oh this is so very lovely.
Spicy creaminess, the jasmine is a bit toned down, still unmistakably an Alien.
Unfortunately it does not project or last that long as some reviews mentioned.
I could both imagine this scent in a steamy situation at a bar on a Friday night or just getting cozy alone under knitted blankets at home.

jlee1587

Harsh saffron opening followed by a vaporous, animalic oud that fades as quickly as it comes. Dries down into a fluffy musk with a persistent, woody vanilla. I like the jasmine in this a lot. It's heady and lush.

brandybasisty

I like this one as well as the Oud Majestueux. The opening has bite from spices and oud (which isn't listed, but I can smell it in there). After the wet stage, it starts to round out into a gorgeous sweet skin scent- the vanilla is the same one used in Essence Absolue, but the dryness and spiciness keep it subdued. The Alien DNA is there, but as another reviewer mentioned- it's an arabian fragrance with a little Alien added- not the other way around. I don't get a masculine, hairy chest vibe, more like the trail I smell in Chanel Coco EDP but without the rose. Perhaps it becomes more masculine in the colder months when the saffron takes centre stage. I might be getting asnomic to it, but it seems to project for 3-4 hours, then becomes close to the skin for 8+ hours. Successful blind buy for me!

Rollingstone

When I sniff the atomizer, I get this beautifully complex, spicy take on the original Alien. Just stunning. As soon as I spray it on skin, it morphs into a scent dominated by a baby wipe smell, which I think is the sour, barnyard oud described in other reviews. Like another review mentioned, I pick up this gorgeous vanilla dry down after a wash. Good luck with this one!

MCW7

This stays on the skin for quite some time. When I first got it I didn’t like it. But I put the bottle down and let it sit a month or so,and it has the most beautiful vanilla dry down. . I really don’t get a lot of alien out of this. Just a little.. .
I believe the saffron to be quite dominant here.
There is no oud in this . Almost an odd menthol smell with a slight hint of alien. . but once it settles down. it’s really has a nice vanilla.. not a good blind buy or for the faint of heart. . but it definitely does last.. to me it just seems for someone with a more sophisticated taste. got a few compliments as well

HollywoodNovaBaby

Like the original but with a slight tang that reminds me of oud. Super dark in color and the smell reflects that. Gorgeous stuff.

mandyads

Indolic jasmine sambac, animalic musk, spice scattered in the background. Gives barnyard oud vibes. Though the animalic accord settles down a slight bit and the amber comes out to play, I still get a strong oud accord with very minimal vanilla, if any. The Alien EDP DNA is still present here. This smells niche and not designer at all. Masculine.

Update: After a shower, I actually smell a nice vanillic accord left behind on my skin from the fragrance that has lingered. I couldn't pick up any of this when it was in full action, though. It's probably super deep in the dry down. However, I strongly dislike this fragrance and cannot imagine standing it long enough on my skin to find out, lol.

Mistress Eva

Of all the Alien flankers I've had or tried, this one is somewhat perplexing. It contains the wonderful DNA of the original Alien, but the vision behind Musc Mysterieux is vague. It has a slightly soapy, sour tang to an acute nose; the saffron and musk don't create a bold, full-bodied, *unique* take on what is a legendary fragrance. Overall, it is still good, but it doesn't benefit from the unavoidable comparison with the original. It isn't different enough to stand on its own; and it isn't good enough to recommend over the original.

Required reapplication twice throughout the day, which is a lot for Alien. Sillage is not as massive either, which could make this a better office fragrance.

Rozalina

This just smells like Alien with all the sparkle and brightness taken out. I hate to be so negative but it seems like a totally pointless flanker. Perhaps this would be a dream for someone who enjoys musky fragrances, but I’ll stick to the OG.

obssessedsniffer

Sprayed on my shirt can still smell it 3 days later. This stuff is super strong.

capncait

As someone who already loves Alien AND loves musky fragrances, I dared to blind buy this, and honestly, I regret nothing. I am not personally getting body odor-musk, but instead a nice, cozy musk that is further supported by cashmeran and saffron, and on my skin, helping to subdue the white florals. This is fuzzy, powdery, but doesn't scream old lady on me. I am so happy I picked this up.

Today is only my second wear test of this, and I will say that I am surprised by how close this is currently sitting on my skin. In some ways, that's good- I work in an office and would hate to offend others, but I do love having a nice scent bubble surrounding me.

Udacha

I truly feel like I purchased a flanker filled with something else but Mugler ..The juice is so dark that it's actually stained my skin ...The scent ...where should I start ..In short, right from the bottle (which is Gorge!) it gave me a huge blow of alcohol, and that IS suspicious..after that I can barely smell anything but an insect spray ..brrrr ...Selling it ASAP!

Unpopular

I bought this on impulse because I got obsessed with snapping up a bunch of rare Alien flankers and I totally regret it. It’s the worst of the Alien line that I’ve smelled. Just a full on musk bomb (obviously) with the alien white florals, but what I hate is the dry down which smells like morning breathe on my skin. It’s really gross. The opening is good if you like musk. It’s actually very strong and potent like an 80s musky fragrance, White Diamonds or something, but then the dry down is just ugh for me. The packaging and bottle is beautiful though. I’ve only work it a couple of times, if anybody wants to trade for one of the other Alien flankers hit me up.

VanillaaManiaa

Saw 1 box of this left at the till in Savers for £50 glinting at me from the shelf. Feeling nostalgic & sentimental about Thierry Mugler’s passing, I was compelled to impulse blind buy. I had some last second doubts before tapping my card; vague recollections of reviews on Fragrantica describing this as ‘body odour’ ‘animalic’ and ‘bug spray’ but I pushed ahead regardless!
Wow! So glad I picked this up, I get a blast of spicy cola/medicinal root beer on the opening, which then morphs into a jasmine heavy, vanilla musk within 10mins after the medicinal, almost menthol smell dissipates.
Intoxicating, heady and sensual - a definite date night fragrance, a very soft indian oud type scent underlying the flowers, vanilla and musk too. Absolutely beautiful, luxurious feel to this, Alien in Dubai, it makes me think of somewhere opulent & humid. The cola scent remains throughout to my nose, a soft accord in the background, not completely overpowered by the warm Jasmine & Cashmeran.
Sillage & longevity is considerable - I get 8 hours easily, this stuff permeates your skin if the chemistry is a match and you will taste it in your throat from a conservative 4 sprays, so bear this in mind.
Will be off to Savers to see if I can find another bottle of this discontinued gem - it’s not online anymore but stores do have them.
Rest in Paradise Mr Mugler, thank you for igniting my passion in fragrances after receiving a bottle of Angel at the tender age of 11 ❤️

dcjimr

Scratchy, synthetic musk. The only Alien flanker I've tried that I absolutely hate.

yoanaaaaaaaa

If someone miss it can write to me. I have a new one which is sealed.

Perfumedsecrets

So intense it reminds me of the old Mugler. It comes on strong, and stays that way. This is made in a vintage way. Not getting any jasmine or vanilla. Strong banger of a musk!

2whit2quit

My best blind buy to date! I’m a musk lover so I had a feeling I’d fall deeply for this Alien flanker. It is so good!!! I receive compliments wherever I go. I’m not holding back on when and where to wear this beauty. I will spray it to my heart’s delight! I’m sure it’s not for everyone, but if you truly love musk, such as Kiehl’s Original Musk, then I say go for it. It is a deep and dark musk. Not a clean or bright skin musk whatsoever. It's a mood. Whenever I need a boost of confidence, I will douse myself in it. It’s really incredible and lasts all day. It smells expensive and intoxicating. I have almost a bodily reaction to Musc Mystérieux…ugh my goodness. I need backup bottles ASAP.

P.S. After a good workout and it mixes with your sweat is apparently when it smells best, because my guy went wild! 😉

update 02.07.22: I am smelling a medicinal aroma in the opening that I also recognized with Alien Oud Majestueux, Montale Roses Musk, and most other Montale frags. It reminds me of a Bactine-type wound spray that was used on me as a kid. Anyway, I love it.

Trendkill97

Rich and opulent, for some reason I pick a Tuberose accord, probably given off by the jasmine and delicate cashmeran, the musk stays linear throughout from start to finish, the spiced saffron sweetness make it very elegant. This ever so slightly reminds me of Cocaine by Franck Boclet. Overall yet another goodie by Mr Ropion, and one of the better, high quality Muglers for sure.

jdecker32356

To me this fragrance is pure musk. Not my favorite musk. I don't really get any spices but the jasmine is barely there in the background, it's kind of lightly oriental flavoured. You can tell the alien DNA is there. I'd say it is pretty unisex. There's something about it that just smells like a person. Not really my thing personally but I got the bottle for like $80 so it's not a big deal. I had a sample of this before I bought the bottle and my sample was more floral than this, which is why I bought a bottle. This is a VERY specific event fragrance. I don't think it smells GOOD, like Lancome L'Idole intense smells GOOD, but this is DIFFERENT. Like I said in my review this is a winter evening fragrance.... But as I sit here I'm thinking it's like ... Afternoon pool party hanging out with half dry hair in a soggy towel and a drying swimsuit at the end of summer where it gets a bit cold in the shade. Very synthetic, almost kind of a sunscreen vibe. I have absolutely no clue when I would wear this. Do not blind buy this.

ALIEN MUSC MYSTERIEUX

When I first tried this, I got a big weird hit of thick, syrupy bitter orange. It went away pretty quickly. Not sure what that was. For a while I thought this was a men's scent because of that, not that I mind. I will wear a men's scent now and again if I like it and it works on me.

This is really a thick, strong scent. Very dark. I agree with the other reviewer about it being middle eastern in nature. This is very similar to the Versace Oud pour home Noir that I have, except instead of the nutmeg/coriander hit in Versace, this does a bitter orange thing. I would honestly put this more as a unisex scent. My husband could pull this off.

I like the original Alien for what it is, a unique scent I haven't encountered anywhere else. That said, I can't actually wear it. I don't know anyone who can. It just sits on me and bounces around and doesn't really work. So I'm trying all the variations of it: flora futura, musc mysterieux, etc.

I like this, but I don't think I would buy a full bottle of it.

If you're into dark, heavy middle eastern type scents, check this one out. It would be a great fall/winter scent.

M1tsouko

I am a huge fan of the mugler line and I recently came across musc mysteriux. To me, this perfume is super strong and smells like cola. I don't really smell anything else but the spices tbh. The bottle ironically kind of looks like cola to me too, lol. This fragrance isn't really for me tbh.

Nuha14

Bakhoor in a bottle. If you are into Middle Eastern fragrances, you love bakhoor, incense or oud, this perfume is for you. Very long lasting even after showering and rubbing my skin with alcohol. This is a potent perfume, so buy a vial first if you have never tested it.
Tip: try layering this perfume with a gourmand, white floral, or a perfume of your preference. I wore it under Paco Rabanne Pure XS and it was gorgeous on me! Still potent though, so apply only a little bit. I will try it with different fragrances .

Lucydo

On first smell this appeared to be quite masculine but after an few minutes it became much softer and quite feminine. Definitely unisex. Musky and smokey yet sweet and soft. Reminds me of my favourite fragrance, code cashmere by Armani. It has that sweet smokey scent. Very addictive. I can’t stop smelling it. Another fragrance by Mugler that I love.

MissDeeDee

On me this is Alien that landed in the Middle East and assimilated the oriental fragrance culture: she got into Musk and oud, the wet slightly animalic one. I strongly detect the indolic jasmine, a bit of saffron/spice.
In the drydown I get some cashmeran and a bit of vanilla.

I blind bought this at a great deal and had I tested prior, not sure if I would’ve bought it, but overall, I am not complaining, it’s a good long lasting scent, daring and it will definitely attract attention!
Projection is very good as well!
Time to wear: I feel it’s perfect for rainy days, it enhances that earthy smell you get in the air.
Versatility: I can see this only on daring, confident women and men. It’s more of a feminine scent, but men could pull this off too.

Bee-young-ka

I really dont like Alien original or jasmine as a rule, but this is tropical / dirty jasmine, smells like Bali.
Love it. From a sample

mossmouse

You're taking shelter in a cave while a snowstorm rages outside. You can smell the embers of your crackling fire, the animalic musk of the furs draped over your shoulders keeping you warm, and the cold, wet stone. A bubbling pot of herbal remedy, jasmine and rosemary and peppercorn, sits over the coals.
Flowery writing aside, this stuff isn't like any other perfume I've tried. Yeah it had the DNA of Alien but it's totally transformed. If this were a person it would be a reclusive sorcerer who lives on a snowy forested mountain and dabbles in necromancy. It's oud and musk and spice and flowers and its POTENT, it literally smells like a potion.
I'll be wearing this in the dead of winter under a leather trench coat.

gmstrack

Alien Musc Mysterieux by Mugler was a shock. OK, maybe it was not a shock—especially considering that the house of Mugler has a reputation for original releases—but definitely a trip. First, the bottle, definitely designed during a bender, is a bejeweled being from another galaxy wearing a gold gradient to silver robe filled with red liquid that can be seen though the gold part, but not the silver part. The juice is seriously red, so watch out when wearing white. The opening is literally from another planet; it is the best jasmine opening I’ve ever sniffed, a semi-sweet grape jam white floral perfectly balanced by an abstract oriental base. It reminds me of wild fox grapes on the vine—ripe, purple berries with an intoxicating muskiness. It only takes a minute before things take an unexpected turn. Faces and bodies start melting like plastic dolls on the BBQ. Human smells mingle with the alien juice. The couple next door stopped washing their sheets three years ago and they just opened the window. At this point, you are certain that the design team at Mugler accidentally dropped some of their psychedelics into the perfume batch. You watch in terror as the juice slowly dries on your arm and soaks into your skin. Terror quickly subsides and delusion takes over. Everyone around you starts to morph into melting cartoon characters. You stand still and watch the floating machine elves drift along an invisible current. You smell good. The fish people smell bad. You are a goddess, a magical being with unimaginable powers.

4.5/5 Decent performance; smells expensive

natasha28

Review is for my own reference - This is my least favorite of the 4 Aliens I've smelt so far (original Alien, Extraordinaire, Flora Futura). This is WAY more of a men's fragrance. If it wasn't labeled as a women's scent I wouldn't think it was for a woman, then again anyone can wear what they like.

I assumed the scent would be interesting as I was intrigued by the dark juice in the sample vial I got. The vial itself was very hard to open and not like any I have used before, I had to use pliers to open it and I hope it doesn't leak. I am wondering if the sample was designed like that bc maybe a spray would put out too much of the strong fragrance?

I was between rating the scent as okay or like or love bc I do think it smells good, it's just NOT a scent I would wear! It does smell familiar though, like a wood fire that is very pleasant and only suited for the colder months and only at night IMO, too heavy for any other time. The price is fair at $100 for 90ml of discount websites. The longevity is moderate to long-lasting; about 6-8 hours

It kind of reminds me of my dad; the smell of him bringing in wood for the fire and smelling his jacket mixed with his deordorant. The nostalgia is what makes me like it. It's a good scent, just not at all feminine or unisex IMO. If this was a men's scent I might even say I Love it.

It doesn't smell like the original Alien, but they both have a jasmine note. Woody, musky, jasmine, manly.

The name is fitting for the bottle: Musc Mysterieux, however, I think the bottle could be better as a solid brown crystal, maybe with a dark navy blue fade to represent nighttime. I personally don't find the silver to remind me of nighttime. Or a dark navy blue crystal with gold accents.

I would've assumed this would be another polarizing scent from Mugler as this is very manly; but surprisingly it doesn't have that many dislikes.

black matte spray

OH! So this is what people are talking about when they say they get a body odor note from a fragrance! I'm happy I finally understand, but I also kind of hate it!

I was honestly shocked by how filthy this was when I first put it on. Just a blast of sharp, tangy armpit (if I'm being generous) suspended in an acrid musk. It's like being in a musty, dirty bedroom in the middle of summer and desperately needing to open a window or set up a fan or literally anything at all just to get some air circulating. If it sounds like I can't stand this fragrance, well I can't, but on a conceptual level I do at least find it interesting. I can even pick up on some intriguing dark/sweet notes in the actual perfume. It's just that as soon as it hits my skin it's basically unwearable.

cypriotsister

This is intoxicating. Both me and my Husband wear this and it smells so different on our skin chemistry. We love ouds, musks and Middle Eastern fragrances so this was a love at first sniff. Blended soo beautifully & 100% unisex. Definitely in my top 5.

On my skin it's a beautiful feminine but heavy warm musky jasmine with a hint of spice. I am extremely familiar with white musk so it's impossible to get this "dirty" element everyone talks about because white musk is very clean. This is certainly a dry fragrance.

The spicy notes are WAY more prominent on my Husband skin. The musky jasmine and woody notes are still there but it just leans more masculine on him. This perfume literally adapts to both our skin chemistry, it's just incredible. BEASTLY performance may I add.

I have about 4 bottles but happy to buy more pre-loved if anyone is selling lol

Miss Dolittle

One of my favourite scents. Heavy Saffron. Long-lasting. Musky sexy. Exquisite aroma.

P-Nay

Alien Musc Majesteaux: With this one, there is a line drawn down the middle; perfect description of a Bad & Boujee; roughly feminine! Has an elegance, with the impeccable balance of musk and Jasmine (good stank) with a gravy pour of sweet vanilla. The White floral along with the spices and saffron, all together, an accomplished clash with harmony.👌🏽 Though it's desccribed as an amber 'woody' i wear it through the spring and summer months and that's my business! 😄 Thierry Muglar is so famous for his stand along, eclectic scents. I greatly appreciate the creativity with the making of this aroma and will continue to support his fragrances. A keeper. Nothing but love ❤ for this baby

taylor_1499

Skin chemistry must play a huge role in how this particular fragrance comes off! So many people mention this being a massive dirty musk, smelling of stables and horses and such. On my skin, I get this warm, cosy, spiced jasmine on a bed of musk that (while quite potent!) is in no way intimidating or barnyard-y. The opening is a blast of spices that leans a little masculine, but it settles in and becomes 100% unisex thanks to being balanced by the vanilla. It's incredibly sexy and intoxicating. Every time I wear it, I can't stop sniffing my wrists, and I can't wait until the weather cools off a bit so I can use it!

judiejudie

Oh boy. Who doesn't love a good dirty musk? This is a good dirty musk. Maybe even a great dirty musk. I scooped up a tester for an awesome price. I don't know if I can wear this out of the house. This is (IMO) far dirtier than either MKK or MR. I'm picturing this front and center on Olympia's dresser. Yes, Manet's Olympia. I can see her staring you down and saying, "That's mine, back off". Deal with it. I know I will.... shhhhhh.

AlaskanAngel

SUPER SAD about this one! I am not sure if it's my chemistry or biology but this smells so sharp on me I almost want to cry. Gave it over 5 hours at this point and it's still so harsh I flinch when I catch a wiff. Bottle is so beautiful! ;'(

UPDATE
I believe the reason that I don't like this frag is due to a note of Hedione. Now, everyone has different chemistry and biology that makes us experience scent differently so please don't drag me for this review. To me Hedione smells like bitter body odor. I think it's also in SIDE EFFECT, PSYCHEDELIC LOVE, and SACRED by Louis Cardin.

chromatica

Well this is intense! It's a jasmine-musk bomb, really. Do not blind buy this if you have a complicated relationship with musks.

It surprised me with the most beautiful intoxicating jasmine on the blotter, so I purchased a bottle immediately (ah, the things that discounts do to me!) which was a bad decision since the musk played out to be unbearable on my skin. The scent was still beautiful, but the 'intoxicating' adjective went from a positive quality to a negative one. I struggled with it for a few times and ended up giving it away to a friend. She loved it a lot and didn't mind the musk at all! In the end, I got a violet bottle of the original Alien and couldn't be happier with it.

Be careful with application as overspraying can literally suffocate you, especially in warm weather.

bloodyheartofparadise

this alien flanker is one of the best i've ever smelled! definitely not one for the faint of heart, it's deep and dark, spicy and sharp yet sweet and warm! this smells just like the lovechild of alien and original ysl opium. extremely unisex (if you pay attention to that sort of thing...) if you're not a fan of heavy 'old fashioned' oriental perfumes then definitely give this a miss. i was expecting a toned down slightly spicy yet still mass appealing scent with this being a more modern release but girl was i wrong, thank goodness! it starts with an extremely strong sharp blast of dirty spices almost identical to opium but after a short while it warms up and becomes much sweeter as the alien dna begins to work in its beautiful magic. this is an absolute beast projection and longevity wise which is unfortunately not really the case for mugler perfumes anymore since selling out to loreal. i can safely say this is a must for all oriental musk lovers! divine.

Freedom#1

Smells so spicy and warm and sweet ! I love it wow

igalmusic

This flanker is much better than original Alien, it's very sensual and more complex. If you like oriental fragrances this one is a must have.

Mbrock

I just tried this today and its great. Deep, dark, warm, intoxicating...discontinued. I've tried several versions of the Alien flankers and this is by far the best and most unique. I can't believe they discontinued it. It makes sense though, anything I remotely like or that actually preforms well seems to get reformulated or discontinued.

This is absolutely amazing! Need a full bottle of this for sure!! Gorgeous, musky cashmere and ambery jasmine.

If you're experienced with orientals, then you will not be surprised by this one. The opening reminds me of Obsession, but slightly lighter on the spice. The mid-phase is heavy powdery musk, but it all blends together on the dry down, which becomes the most beautiful fragrance! A rich Alien with an oriental vibe!

This may take a little to get used to if you're not a huge fan of classic spicy perfumes. But I promise you it's amazing!! Love love love!

Also, don't know of this is blasphemous or not (lol) but it layers beautifully with BBW Pink Cashmere.

ezpz

I want to just say this is amazing and leave it at that, but that's not very helpful or descriptive, lol. This is not a safe blind buy.

This opens up with a lot of oud, which isn't listed in the notes, but I smell it anyway. It's quite masculine in the first 10 minutes before the other notes warm up, then it becomes unisex. I do find the drydown to lean more feminine, but not so far that men would feel uncomfortable wearing it. At first, this doesn't have much in common with the original Alien--you have to wait for that.

The next thing I get is the general "spices" notes and I can't quite put my finger on which ones I'm smelling and it's somewhat boozy. I think that's the vanilla, but it doesn't smell like a "cake" vanilla, more like pure vanilla extract. Hence, the boozy note. The jasmine is revealed after about 30-40 minutes and it is that wonderful Alien jasmine sambac amplified by the spices and cashmeran. NOW, you smell the Alien mothership DNA. Wonderful! Strong! Sensual!

The person who wears this will receive attention for this fragrance, so the wearer must have the confidence and desire to carry it and be willing to be noticed.

mendalia

I have been wearing alien since it was released and have many of the other versions of it and oh how I wanted to like this one. I don’t know if it’s my chemistry or what but it doesn’t smell good. It really doesn’t smell anything like the original alien as a matter fact. At least on my chemistry it’s opening notes assault you with I don’t even know what to call it. Is it Oud? I know the dry down is supposed to be vanilla but for some reason on me the dry down is a funky men’s cologne. Like tweed wool old man cologne vibes... it definitely does not work for me.

Jacklyn's Perfumery

Alien + Youth dew and spice and you have the fragrance. Awesome fragrance that feels vintage but is not. Similar to Oud Majestueux with less oud, but enhanced and sweetened. My favorite of the two and if I were to choose only one it would be this one hands down. Bold and long lasting too. A darker Alien worth owning.

This Fragrance is Gorgeous I Love it

Perpetual Collector

Alien on steroids. This is freaking awesome!

NoirDesir

I had all these flankers, essence, oud and now this one. This is the most unisex smelling and mature-like. It’s not as strong as essence or oud, but it’s still one with good longevity. Sillage is good enough. It stains clothes so it must be applied on skin. It’s very unisex but after it dries down it’s quite a sexy fragrance. From all these flankers this is my least favourite, essence absolue being the best. Try it before you buy it as it is very unisex. Not the type of girly-girl perfume at all, might be more suited for a femme fatale wandering in a dark place

Cherrycardinal

This is basically the "ghost" flanker of alien, a great minimal elaboration on the og, one of my favorite flankers. The jasmine beast is sleeping soundly over saffron and dense, sweet incense that dissipates into clean musk+dirty oud feeling, reflecting the white and brown bottle. It's cold, the most stoic alien flanker, haunting, meditative, but the alien church incense is rounded out by the sweetness and fluffy musk. I actually added straight myrrh oil to it because it fits perfectly. Essence absolue is a temple on the alien home planet, and musc mysterieux is the monk's quarters

tempbee123

So much musk in the opening spray. Not sure about the dry down yet.

Gem190

I have a full 90ml bottle of this if anyone is interested. Been sprayed around 3 times.

RachelSeun

I was so afraid when the reviews were saying this was a dirty animalic fragrance that strays from the original Alien. But I am so glad I bought this! One of the most luxurious and potent fragrances I have in my collection. If you love Tom Ford’s Noir Pour Femme you will love this. It is a sweet yet spicy fragrance, smells like something Mancera would have their line up as it does have a particular medicinal oud note in it. It also doesn’t smell like an Alien flanker. And it’s so strong, you can see the oils on your skin! Plus the bottle is incredible!

fbls_llmas

On my skin, this is a powdery rose oud musky scent. It reminds me of Dio oud ispahan or Zegna Indonesian oud. Definitely unisex to me.

dglightblue

I can smell alien in this; that jasmine dark type and dusky dna, clean ish musc; its not animalic to me, slightly wet, slight minty menthol initially and in first 10mins, slightly resinous non-food spicy sweet.
Rounded feel, alien jasmjne-y musky, maybe oriental-ish warm.

Warning, the juice has a colour so dont spray on fabric. It has to dry a bit. Juice is a browny colour, could only spritz black or brown fabric.

Theonlyone

THIS IS A MASTERPIECE OF A FRAGRANCE!!! Don’t even get me started on longevity and sillage! Beastly!! I put this on my inner elbow at 4:30pm and even at 02:30am im still getting wafts of it and even then it’s not a full skin scent yet.

When i just sprayed it i was like wtf i don’t like this too much. But give it about 20 minutes to start drying down hunny. You then can smell the spices and then that opulent, sweet and most beautiful jasmine starts whipping around the concoction and the musk becomes super sexy! Not a scent for work guys and gals lol. Smelling my inner elbow made my own knees a little weak. It is an aphrodisiac if you ask me! Idk why this was discontinued but im glad i have it and will be using it ONLY for special occasions!

Janulka098

Hmm. I absolutely love original Alien. I read reviews it still got Alien DNA but spiced and sweetened with added musc. I adore any type of musc and gourmand perfumes and with this I should love it... I get the wonderful warm vanilla and amber and musc and sweetened alien, however there is a note in this I can not stand. I have no idea what it is. I came across the same note in Viali Royal Elixir (had a sample of it and had to quickly put it in plastic bag as far away as possible) I get a very faint note of it in Lacoste Challenge my husband wears, but I am ok with that one. I have no idea whether it’s lemongrassy or some citrus accord that’s somewhere in the background but for that reason I can not wear this. If not for that one note I would absolutely bath in it! So sad it’s a no from me as I love Mugler

Veronika95

Oh hell yeah ... that’s what I’m talking about 😁 I’m surprised it’s not more popular because this is absolutely amazing ! I have also Oud Majesteux and it’s very obvious those two belong together, the opening is very similar, almost the same. But it doesn’t take much time to warm up and then it’s just magic (really just give it 10 minutes) ... I immediately ordered another bottle because I found it for absolutely ridiculous price ! It’s the cheapest alien of all and yet I might even go as far as saying it’s the best one, at least for me. It’s really heavy on vanilla and the longer you wear it the sweeter it gets. I’ve never got a chance to smell alien essence absolue, but this is what I’ve always imagined it smell like. Super sweet vanilla Alien. The Musc is very polite here, I really don’t like musc and I still love this. I think this is limited edition from 2015, so there’s no way to get a fresh bottle. Mine liquid is totally dark, I’m not sure it was like that when it was fresh. I suspect that the vanilla is more prominent because it’s old, and older vanilla makes perfumes go super dark and heavy sweet. But no complaints here, I love it.

Some of my fondest childhood memories are nuzzling my wrists after applying my mom's pilfered Avon Soft Musk rollerball. Side Note: if you have fond memories of Avon's Soft Musk, then the Les Exceptions Over the Musk is phenomenal, and I am frantically trying to find a bottle.

I love musks, and I was on a huge Mugler kick a few months back, so when I saw Alien had a musky flanker, I immediately blind bought it with sky high expectations.

The drydown is nice, but I have a really, really hard time with the spicy saffron opening. I've tried layering it with other scents to try to mask the opening, but it just isn't working for me. Additionally, the fact that it sprays on dark is slightly off-putting because of how incredibly pale I am, and I don't have the time in the morning to let it completely dry before applying clothing.

I still have the original box, and there's about ~87 mL left of the original 90. So, it's not brand new / sealed, but I am open to trades/swaps or sell it. Please PM me if you want to take it off my hands.

AlexandraTroush

Determined to make this masterpiece work in home conditions, I poured a small amount of it (it's a refillable bottle so it's easy to open) into a rollerball bottle and let me tell you, this is much easier to wear and enjoy (as in, in closed spaces) as a rollerball version! Still a powerhouse and a beast, but a bit softer, and it's easier to apply less with the rollerball than a full spray would be. I'm happy with my discovery! Might do the same with the oud version, too.

wquila

I hated it a first. Smelled like a typical middle eastern perfume in the opening. Masculine even. But THEN, it quickly evolves. A deep, woody musky of subtle inviting mystery that keeps you wonder. It’s so sexy. Where have I smelled this before? You keep wondering. It is as if in another realm, you came across this. But you were born on earth, and you just can’t point out what it was. I’m addicted and I need a full bottle.

Luckyed

Warm spicy cola- not coca-cola but cheap cola or cola flavoured sweets, that should put me off it but I really like it. There is of course the floral muskiness of jasmine and a spicy vanilla dry down but this is nowhere near as potent or cloying as Alien. Very wearable and I frequently wear it during the day and casually at weekends.

Gourmand Michael

Zoologist style. Outrageously high quality musk. Room filler!

AlexandraTroush

I don't know what's up with my nose, but while I adored it last winter, this winter I can't even tolerate it. Probably because I'm stuck at home, and this one tends to be just too much when worn indoors. I'll have to put it back in my perfume closet and revisit it after quarantine. I just can't do these crazy, over the top fragrances when I'm home. My poor Muglers have all been laying untouched ever since we've been on lockdown.

As for the scent, from my latest (failed) attempt at wearing it at home, I get NR For Her EDT on steroids, where the musk is amped up big time to the point of a laundry detergent that violates your nostrils when you smell it straight from the bottle, and it's almost sour from how concentrated it is. It's beautiful when given room to air out, but suffocating and almost nauseating in closed spaces.

Still one of my faves though, just not as a home fragrance.

Francop

Lovely musky rendition of Alien; possibly the lightest and sexiest of them all but yet haunting and inviting.

Very nice; bet it shines on a romantic hot summer night next to a Gorgeous Lover.

Thumbs up!!!

audreyg

Original Alien is a fresh, exotic jasmine bouquet; a walk through jasmine fields under a full moon and stars; simultaneously fresh and deep, pretty and sexy, light and dark. I'm not sure if I would call it my holy grail perfume, but it's damn close (and I didn't even think I liked florals!). It strikes that perfect balance between fresh and dark, which can be difficult to do with white florals.

I thought I would like any Alien flankers since the base is so solid for me, but Alien Musc let me down. The musk in this fragrance comes across very harshly and to me is a dead-ringer for bug spray. Needless to say, I would prefer not to smell like bug spray. White florals are already on the edge of "grandma perfumes" to me, and the dried down musk in Alien Musc puts it over into full on grandma territory. I can't explain why one extra note makes such a difference, but it sure does for me. It turns the beautiful Alien into a very heavy, aged concoction.

I think I would rather layer the original Alien with a muskier fragrance than just wear this. It's honestly alright, but I did find it to be too chemical reminiscent when first sprayed and then too heavy in the drydown.

BY THE WAY: The liquid itself is a dark amber color that WILL stain. Be careful where you're spraying this stuff! I tend to only use it on my skin and let it dry down before putting clothes on top to avoid any kind of accident.

Scentflower

If anyone has a bottle of this, and would like to trade please pm me.

sakura28

I purchased this directly from the mugler website, and was very disappointed. So many reviews talked about how intense and masculine it is, but unfortunately on me it smells like light bubble gum?? I love love love mugler and alien so sad it didn't work out, I returned it via mail. My bottle was scratched up too so I had a good reason to send it back anyways. Beautiful bottle and package.

UPDATE: repurchased from another site, because I have an Alien addiction..

Unique, bold, beautiful bottle and package. Still smells the same on me but my thoughts have changed a little.

On me it smells: animalic bubblegum/root beer. But I do appreciate it more now, it's very unique forsure. I'm testing 3 other perfumes on my arm, but I keep going back to this one for more sniffs. It confuses me, so I go in for more.

Imo this is one of those 'weird' polarizing Mugler scents you'll either love or hate. Not a safe blind buy at all, but I think for my body chemistry it's easier to wear than the alien oud. The barnyard quality in Alien Oud takes a longgg time for my body to dry off/get used to, but this version it's not as barnyard on my skin after the initial spray.

If you like bold unique Mugler scents this one maybe for you, although I think it has been reformulated from what it first might have been. It doesn't last very long on me.

Supermonipower

This is more masculine and animalic than the oud version.
Still a great fragrance but I would personally prefer the oud one!!
Definitely the perfectly blended alien oriental version.

I will gift this to my father.

IN SHORT: SERIOUS SMOKY SPICY RICH CARNAL

Just received it today. A very risky blind buy. Very solid kinda personality deep woodsy deeply spicy warm slightly sweet I wish it were a touch more sweet and a bit more feminine. It definitely has a rich middle eastern aura. Quite unisex I can imagine a dark broad shouldered impeccably dressed well groomed uber-masculine confident mysterious man pulling this off really well, this is Matured smelling it really calls for a certain mood. The spiciness reminds me of coco edt but coco lends itself more to a feminine touch But this is more austere. It also reminds of a woodier and much less sweeter roberto cavalli edp.

I will have to spend some more time and get to know it better especially whether it goes with my personality - I like NR feminine delicate musk more. For me to wear it I will have to feel more private as a person this seems like someone who is a very closed book -like don't want to even talk to anybody let alone open up. I guess that's why it feels dark and mysterious. I don't know if my nose is sophisticated enough to pick up musc here. It's nothing like I can do with NR for her. That one is a cool calming Musk.

there is definitely some appeal to it. This one gives the feel of roasted spices which I can see many people liking esp in the depth of winter. It's woodier austere masculine version of coco edt allure sensuelle and other spicy kinds that exude sophisticated sexiness.

Edit 2. Now I can smell the deep dry down the roaring warm spices have relaxed a bit but still there. I can smell the musk a little bit now - its warm spicy creamy musk not cold and serious. it is as if the extremely private person has agreed to let someone in just for the night and a softer but still highly guarded side of hers is peeking through. It's creamier milkier tender little sweeter and irresistibly inviting like it demands you to close your eyes and nuzzle every inch of its existence.

Edit 3: I satisfied my need for sweetness and femininity by layering it with other gems appropriately. Now this concoction completely has me floored.

Edit 4. Growing on me. I catch less of the spice now. Just creamy a little sweet musk. Addictive. One of the most inviting sensual ones suggestive of nothing but purely CARNAL purpose for extremely classy personalities.

Planet_X

I have listened to at least five Youtubers regarding Musc Mysterieux, expecting to hear..I don't know, something reasonably edequate regarding this flanker. All I've got was seeing people rolling eyes, licking tongues, making cheezy faces and repeating "Ohhh, it is seeexy, soooo sexyyyyy" and so on. Waste of time.

All I wanted to know was if I don't like the Alien and jasmine turns sour and cold on my skin, will I like this? So I bought a sample and went for FB.
The main player - thinned tonkin musk, makes this flanker warmer, smokier and more sophisticated, than original Alien, so those who were not happy with Grandfather for varies reasons - try juice from this silver-platinum-rocket-alike bottle. I find it refined, spicy-warm and vanillic at the heart, without all that kitsch of the original. It delivers the Mugler's avant-garde attitude and makes you noticable, yet more in an Eastern than in an European way, - dark, spicy and smoky at the beginning, while sweet and soft at the base.
I do see the similarity though with Miroir des Majestes, that I prefer slightly more than Musc.

labonvie

Great flanker.
The first couple times I wore this all I could smell was root beer and Tiger Balm. It was maddening. The same thing had happened with the original Alien, which I came to love after years of unsuccessfully testing and assuming everybody just loved the smell of bug spray. Alien smells divine to me now and after 4 wearings, so does this. The opening is medicinal and mentholated, a combination of the indolic jasmine and the spices. I might be anosmic to musk because this doesn’t seem terribly animalic to me. I smell Alien, but warmer, rounder and powdery. (Sidenote: Thierry, how about a powdery, lipsticky Alien???) I wish the jasmine hung around a bit longer. The drydown is spicy vanilla and subtle woods and it’s nice but I’m really here for the nuclear megadoses of jasmine. As with most Alien flankers, if you like the original, you will probably like this.

Last thing...the liquid is dark and the atomizer is as delicate as a firehose. Avoid spraying on clothing. I learned the hard way.

Banana ladyslipper

I will start by saying, I LOVE this stuff! That said, if you own this, and not the Oud, or vice versa, unless you’re a collector, I don’t think you NEED both. They do have their differences, for those that are about to burst, or should I say, bust a balloon, lol. But I do feel that they have a close enough resemblance, that if someone’s really debating on spending the money, they shouldn’t worry about missing out on anything. I prefer the Oud myself, but I’ll explain why I think this one might be the better buy. To ME, this one smells like the Oud, but with a different/added opening. This one starts a LITTLE dirtyISH, but then it quickly becomes Oud Majestueux. Don’t get me wrong, there’s still Musc there, but to MY nose, they’re VERY close. Of course, if you have a more “sophisticated” nose, you’ll likely want both, and I REALLY don’t see many Alien lovers, regretting the addition of this pair, to their shelf.

MnM

OMG! Love! Love! My hubs loves it too :) I'm glad I purchased the larger bottle. I will be bathing in it.

ShannonIk

This is an interesting scent for me. When I tested it the first time, I got a musk that was VERY animalic. And, I thought it clashed with the rest of the fragrance. I was thinking that I may have to swap this bottle because it wasn't a good fit for me.

Then, I tried it again. And, I got almost NONE of the animalic musk that gave me pause the first time. It's sweet, powdery and much more floral. The animalic notes are very, very subtle.

I'm liking it because of how different it can be.

Wilczyca

I had few weeks of practice in a parasitology lab and for my nose this perfume is far from fecal. Each day I was surrounded by hundreds of different kinds of smelly samples from patients... well, I think you know what I mean. Sorry if I ruined somebodys appetite.

What is ironic is the fact that during that time I used Alien Musc as a relief from less pleasant scents (as well as Alien Oud which some people describe as fecal too). I would have it sprayed on my lab coat and sniff it during breaks or when the scents were too strong and I had to redirect my senses to something more pleasant. It was strong enough to clean my nose and make me feel good. And even though I was afraid that I will forever associate these two with the lab smell battle - nope. They smell delightful in cold weather outside. No fecal resemblances. No barnyards.

To me... It smells classy, elegant and very sexy. The spices are biting the nose, an absolute onslaught. Then there is this wild musk and leftovers of spices. And after few hours of this crazy ride - all that left is a gentle drydown with a hint of vanilla. Even then this perfume can easily be unisex, I would love it on a man as well.

tandem_4x4

the previous comment says it has a toilet paper undertone. For me it has a used toilet paper undertone. Very dirty animalic, almost fecal. I really feel jealous to those who feel something clean there or flowery or vanillish. I feel saffron notes (which normally makes everything to smell dark clean), I feel vanilla and lowers, but like if all those notes are covered with the something stinky. It seems the dirtiest fragrance I ever tested.

After one hour the stinky note has gone leaving the pretty nice spicy muscy Alien drydown. But it is so weak and sitting close to the skin.

lmwimsatt

I find this to be a unique combo of cola and sarsaparilla. I also, in the very best way possible, detect a fresh roll of toilet paper undertone. Very well done flanker!

AlexandraTroush

I used to play the violin as a child and this perfume immediately reminded me of rosin. This perfume, to me, evokes sweet, musical childhood memories. It is elegant, classy, and somewhat strict, just like my Russian violin teacher from back then.
It is not sweet at all and does not "play around".

I can for sure see myself spraying this on for a classical concert, a ballet or some classy theater, wearing a long black dress and blood-red lipstick.

I swear people are making up weird associations for the laugh of it, like with Mugler's Womanity (which smells nothing like "rotten female genitalia"). This does not smell like feces or barnyard whatsoever!

This is just gorgeous and beautiful. A true wonder of (somewhat) recent perfumery.

PS. It somehow reminds me a little of Mugler's Miroir des Majestes, which apart from the Jasmine shares no other notes with this one, but has the same kind of "expensive and classy" vibe.

mschnabel666

I actually feel "meh" about Alien EDP Original, but I love Essence Absolu, and I blind bought this because I LOVE MUSK- the dirtier the better!

And woooo.... this is everything I hoped for!

Yes the jasmine is Alien DNA- unmistakable. But the HOT SPICY HEAT that comes off this-- cinnamon-y. Spicy woods with a pinch of red-hot candies. And then the Alien Jasmine. And then-- really really skanky musk. Yes, it can come off as clean, but it can also come off as unwashed sex box. Yep, you heard me. And while wearing it... I really am scared it's too much for those around me. I like a warm skank, but this is a smidgen too much. I still love it, but I prefer to wear at night, indoors, while alone, in cooler temps- I will wear for myself.

My first test after receiving in the mail had disappointing sillage/potency.... but I'm convinced the bottle shaking in shipping needs to "settle" down again before the true scent/potency shows. I buy everything online/shipped- so it's not the first time something seemed weak at first.

This is good. In it's weird way. I def want a backup bottle. Or a refill!

MrsPress

The way the jasmine and cashmeran combine in this smells like rubbing alcohol, I prefer original Alien over this by far.

Nuitdenoel

I got a generous sample from Mugler with a recent order and I love it! FB worthy for sure. I typically don’t do well with musk, it can make me nauseous. This is clean, deep, floral goodness. Like wearing a perfectly fitting, warm sweater.

Solar Girl

A blind buy and, sorry to say, a fail.

Why did I blind buy it when- by now, after years of mostly unsuccessful BB's- I should be sober enough to control myself?

First- because of the MUSK. I'm a sucker for musk and adore it, or at least I adore the memory of how it smelled back in the 80s.
Second- I love Alien, and Love it's flankers even more.

Well, the musk in this perfume is not the sexy, hypnotizing super feminine musk I expected to find, at least in trails.
It is barnyard-kind, sharp mixture of animals and dry straw, middle-eastern and masculine. In not a one moment of development does this reach a point of melting with the skin, becoming sensual, warm, inviting, sexy musk. It's barnyard all the way.

And the funniest thing is that, unlike musk that i adore, I don't get along well with OUD, but Alien Oud Majesteux, while not very far from Musc mysterieux, is far nicer, sexier and better done in every way.

So, I guess I found my flanker in this duo. And it's The Oud.

HyenaSuperstition

Oh lordy! This is sharp, unbridled, and dirrrty. An immediate assault to the senses... In a good way. The Alien DNA is definitely there, but no longer takes center stage in this cacophonus wave of extremes. This fragrance borders on brutal with it's use of musk and dense base notes that stick to you for 24+ hours (even after one spray), making it almost indelible.

Even though it's not listed, to my nose, there is an element of ambergris present. Not the sweeter, or fresher side of ambergris, but more so reminiscent of the innards of a whale kind of thing going on. That fecal goodness that glorifies florals like jasmine, making them steroidally radiant. A milder note of civet seems to want to add it's muddy little cat foot to the funk with a suggested hint of nasty-naughty, making this smell all the more complex. Have I mentioned my male cat won't leave my side when I've worn this?

For me, this perfume is at it's most interesting after the initial spray, and then well into it's dry down. The first hour or two leaves an enormous storm cloud of animalic come-hither, cascading around the wearer, demanding the attention of any and all who succumb to it's beckoning siren song. The only thing is, are you sure you can handle that type of attention? This Alien requires it's host to have a high level of confidence and certainty about themselves. There is no dipping your toe with this fragrance. Either you're in, or they're in. <--- See what I did there? Yes, this juice is that suggestive.

In the late stages of dry down (next day) I get hay and secretions. I'm not sure if there is any other way to "pretty that up", but from what I can tell you, it strongly evokes images (soon to be memories) of being ravaged in a barn. Animalistic passion, reckless abandon, pounding hearts, clothes strewn, intense sweat, bite marks, tangled delirium, and a multi octave range of screams rushing towards ecstasy. I'll gladly subject myself as a sacrificial lamb to ravenous slaughter, and wear this the next time I give my boyfriend "the look".

Alien has truly been transformed into a perfume of Eastern heritage. I think I even like this more than Oud Majesteaux, though it is a challenging scent with a massive personality. The liquid itself is intimidatingly dark, like patchouli oil, and it is tinged red.

The initial spray is similar to Oud Majesteaux, and I also detect a tinge of oud. That may be in part the saffron that I am smelling as I associate it strongly with oud and eastern scents in general. It persists the entire way through, so you better tolerate saffron. It is accompanied by a thick and heady Arabian black musk. If you are familiar with attars, you know what kind of musk I am talking about. Burried underneath is the classic Alien EDP chewy jasmine/cashmeran combo. After about 30 minutes, Musc Mysterieaux deepens considerably. The musc grows ever more potent, but also smoother and sweeter. I catch whiffs of spicy tones that meld with the saffron. The Alien base is far more suble here than in Oud Majesteaux, almost just a whisper at the end of a sniff, but it shifts in an out of focus as it blends with the musk's sweet facets.

The end result is very much unisex, and a better representation of Arabian perfumery than Oud Majesteaux, which is far more palatable. Oud Majesteaux is Alien kissed by the Eastern notes, Musc Mysterieaux is a classic musk attar with Alien sprinkled in. They are absolutely different enough to justify having both, but if you decide to only purchase one, ask yourself if you prefer the cosmic jasmine or the solar amber of the original. Musc is more basenotey.

I also agree about the similarities between Alien Essence Absoule and MM. MM uses a very similar vanilla/resin in the base. It has the same syrupy smoldering sweetness. Of course, MM has much more texture then EA, since it was saffron, spice, and black musk layered on top.

FatFragHead

From a guys point of view: Just got this today. At first spray it's floral (not heady) then rolls over quickly to a similar type of floral aroma as Jean Paul Gaultier Fleur. I then pick up the musc and it dries down to a woody vanilla scent. This starts off at first spray as unisex but it lends slightly fem (only at the top) then as it settles down (kind of quick) to a unisex to slightly more masc dry down. It's really nice (done on a level of Dior) and I see this in a semi-formal to formal wearings. The bottle and packaging is very nice in typical eastern fashion. I am happy to have this. Happy sniffing.

SniffingStu

I can detect the candy-like jasmine cashmere element of Alien quite clearly. This has a thick warm vanilla musk wrapped around it, that to my nose has a heavy sandalwood vibe. Goes on strong and wraps you in a cloud, then mellows out stays closer to the skin. The cloud of vanilla musk evaporates and the original Alien chemistry shines through with a touch of patchouli and tar signature of the Mugler perfumes. This is one of the better Mugler fragrances overall. Because of the woody patchouli notes in this, I would say it's safely unisex. It's playful, sweet, and inviting

shushkin

I was after a musk scent that was not too musky if you see what I mean. This definitely has the alien heart but it's surrounded by musk and wood that are fiercely swirling around it. I keep thinking there is oud in this but I think it must be an illusion.
It's quite potent with good longevity and sillage. I can imagine it being too potent for some. Perfectly unisex.

drawingmaniac35

I suppose I am late on this train but today I received my bottle. This musky goodness doesn't last on me as much as the purple juice and it doesn't project as much. However, this isn't necessarily a bad thing as it is still a bomb, just not as explosive as the original.
The scent is very sexy, deep and intriguing as it starts off sharp resembling the smells of an exotic ritual. It is just soaked with magic. Not long after it calms down a little to a beautiful musky jasmine and yummy vanilla. It is dark and mysterious.
I can see myself wearing it every day during fall and winter. Honestly, I find it much more versatile compared to its grape-y older sister. I can even say I like this flanker more. No, I love it.
Update:
I thought the comforting and inviting sweetness came from the vanilla but it's actually the musk. I never knew I had such a huge crush on "Musk" until I checked and all my favourite scents had this note in common. Exactly that comforting warmth that comes after the initial blast of spices.

Update:
This has been my go-to scent for almost a month now and it is by far my best compliment getter. No one usually comments on my scent but when I wear this masterpiece, everyone seems to get the urge to tell me how amazing I smell.

A year after:
Even though I get tons of compliments on this, I started getting some extremely dirty accord that bothered me. Unfortunately, instead of growing on me even more, I cannot wear it any longer. I gave it to my mother.

This is an amazing perfume..if you love perfumes like youth-dew you are going to love this..this is the beautiful blend of the original Alien with the sambac jasmine but this is mixed with the same spiciness as youth-dew so this has that wonderful spicy coca-cola vibe and it's strong and robust..if you love older classics you will love this hands down..it smells like it has incense and cloves with it's spices..whatever spices are in this it smells so comforting and amazing..bravo Mugler..this is lovely! It's so different I actually want a full bottle and hope to own it sometime soon...the jasmine and the spices blend so well in this..this is not for everyone you have to really love spicy oriental classics..and if you do i think this is a great purchase..

Both my husband and I get light, fresh, and powdery from this scent on my skin. It opens with the smell of cucumber, and then as the top notes fade, it still smells very fresh and light, with a note of powderiness. Eventually I get a hint of spice, but just the barest whisper. Something about my skin chemistry really changes the scent of Alien Musc from what most people get.

Okay, so.

I'm wearing this (MM) on my left inner arm, Oud Majestueux (OM) on my right inner arm, original Alien (OA) on my left wrist, and Essence Absolue (EA) on my right wrist.

Granted, I only used very small amounts of each, but I mean, they're still Alien, so my poor husband.

I don't see a lot of similarities between this and OM. I mean, of course there are SOME similarities, they're both Alien flankers and have Alien at their heart.

But honestly, to my (admittedly inexperienced) nose, this has more in common with EA than OM. They both just have this luscious creaminess in the drydown that I haven't found yet in other perfumes. That, and the vanilla really shines through in both.

But, while EA is smooth and sweet and romantic, this is warm and dark and wild. A predator.

I see OA as the woman who commands and carries a room, and EA as the one woman who seduces and mesmerizes a room, but this is darker and quieter, more dangerous. The woman who stays back, in the shadows. At first glance, you might shrug her off as a wallflower, but she sees everything, she notices everything, she's a hunter.

And once she sets her sights on you, there's no stopping her. You're her prey, and she won't stop until she's had her fill.

I managed to get this second hand for a pretty sweet song and it was a total blind buy, but I knew it would be special. It is - but. I'm a fan of the original, and this does have Alien at its heart. The musk brings an incense to the mix that smells strongly of oud to me, and a slight smoke, both of which I love, but are apparently completely in my imagination, as they aren't listed as notes.
After the initial blast, it is very reminiscent of strong musky Arabic perfumes, which I also love.

The reason I was hesitant to buy was because saffron doesn't love my skin. That, unfortunately for me, is definitely there, and on me, it is consistent, although it mellows. But it's still there in my drydown.
(Having never smelled this or the oud version of Alien, I actually had to look up the batch code to make sure it wasn't a knock-off - it is authentic, so I am a happy buyer, even if I don't love it!).

Layering with OG Alien keeps the longevity for me, sweetens it, and chills the saffron. My husband calls it bug spray! But he does like the original - go figure. Will wear from time to time, but do prefer the original, as it's sweeter and beachier. OG Alien to me is a classic winter or very hot summer perfume with its sweet jasmine and vanilla.
Would be interested to smell the oud version myself, just to compare to this.

I can't say if you love Alien, you will also love Musc Mysterieux. Maybe it will be better in the colder months. Worth it to have in my collection at the price I paid, but definitely would try before buying at what seems to be the going rate.

rola.asad

I don’t find this and Oud Majestueux similar, I mean Definitly there is the slightest resemblance between them but nothing to point out at!!
I prefer alien Oud Majestueux though, it’s more unique and more sensual for me!

arsgords

It is not very good but i don't know why but it made me feel happy. It reminds me old lovely days, it smells like a happy home. In the opening it is very similar Alien but then it turns a saffrony way. I don't buy again but i'm not regretful for this time.

eliteevil

I like this a lot more than oud majesty but probably not as much as the original alien.

Alien the original (well as produced circa 2017) smells great to me. I do understand what people mean by sharp, and if you don't like that aspect Musk is much more "stodgy". It smells thicker and bigger although the projection and the strength do not seem as strong to me as the original alien. The smell is a lot like the original alien with more prominent musk, which isn't super washing powdery, and doesn't add a huge amount to the smell but the feel of the perfume is significantly different.

I didn't care much for Oud Alien. It felt like a cask finished whisky - an oud sheen, top note I guess, that hits you at first but hasn't enough time or impact to really change the overall experience, no actual maturation, as after 30 minutes you are left with the original alien just less well defined.

If you like alien but would prefer a softer delivery I think Musc Mysterieux is well worth a go, if you already love alien I don't think the changes of this flanker will benefit your experience much.

When I first tested it on a paper blotter I thought it's as if alien essence absolue is been layered with body fantasies sexiest musk so it's not worth buying but all positive reviews made me decide to order a sample.I must admit that I was sooo wrong.this is a masterpiece!
Alien is very famous and is a best seller but I don't find it revolutionary as I always expect from mugler.when I think of angel and womanity(though I hate them),I come to the point that alien musc mysterieux was a better choice as main launch instead of original alien.this stuff is mysterious and dark.I can detect alien DNA in it but it's not as sweet or screamy.there's something bitter, dark, dry and dirty in a sexy way going on beneath creamy jasmine.
When I dab it on my skin, spices or vanilla aren't the first thing that comes to my mind.I think of jasmine and a warm and special kind of musk,as if it's a musky leather note somewhere.I can really smell leather here and a smokey undertone.this isn't my usual type of favorites but it's addictive and makes me want to smell it more and more.it was strange for me to hear that my husband also loves it.he usually likes purely feminine fragrances on me and there's a slight unisex vibe going on here.there's something unique and magical here that most perfumes lack these days.
I can't comment on it's sillage before being able to actually spray it but longevity seems to be good considering that I can dab less than a drop each time.
It's very expensive and difficult to find here and I've been on a terrible aconomic situation lately but I want a bottle as soon as I can afford
By the way I hated the oudy version and I don't find them similar

mshilov

Dirty, thick and dark, especially in this dégradé bottle which reminds of obscure atmosphere of churches and temples. Nowadays the best scents are not major launches but flankers because with them perfume houses can afford themselves to be inventive, provocative and experimental. This Alien smells like Gabrielle could smell if it was really referred to Chanel's name, not a Chanel's marketing research. Jasmine is prominent and the spiced musk makes a remarkable intrusion into the floral core of Alien. Balanced, bold and beautiful creation.

RaeGoLightly

I really like this. It lacks the super sweetness of Alien but you can tell it has the DNA. I like it more than the Oud one I tested. I'm glad I splurged and I would say a safe blind if you like Alien and smokey vanilla. I can certainly pick up a powdery musk. It's definitely smoked and the dry down is a soft smokier musk with a hint of Alien. Certainly similar in terms of smokieness found in Tobacco Vanille by Tom Ford. I love it.

Update: my second day testing. Very nice. Certainly the smokiness of Spiritueuse Double Vanille and Tobacco Vanille. It's almost like Alien blanketed by Tobacco Vanille drowning out the sharp sweetness that sometimes makes Alien too much for some. Don't get me wrong, I like Alien, especially after the first hour. I recently had a guy come up to me in the grocery store loving it. I don't see this one garnering the same reaction as it lacks the projection of its Alien. It's still strong but not as much as Alien. More of a neck nuzzled.

Second update. I don't like what I consider the lack of longevity. I don't see this as a top five. Even reformulated Coco lasts 2x as this. I have higher expectations for a perfume that costs over $150. Which sucks. I was hoping for a big, long musky jasmine vanilla musk base. Because the musk is nice.

I'd recommend layering Alien and then a smokey musk to get an idea of it. I'm don't hate it and glad I have it. Just wanted it to be more.

I'm going to further test this with Alien and a layer and wear this on the other side and will update for the comparison. Maybe I just got olfactory fatigue.

Testing from a decanted sample, sprayed only once to the back of my hand.

On first spraying, this is quite unmistakably Alien DNA, with a very strong blast of spices, reminding me of Oud Majestueux.

Within ten minutes though, those spicy top notes have largely worn off, leaving behind a beautiful, creamy and musky jasmine underpinned by gentle woods. I think the creaminess probably comes from vanilla - this is most definitely not a gourmand or sweet vanilla. I detest the ubiquitous "laundry" type musks which find their way into a lot of perfumes. Thankfully that nasty cheap smell is not present - not that I really expected it to have crept into a Mugler creation.

I do not agree with the priority voting of notes on here - neither vanilla nor musk are the most prominent notes to my nose; jasmine is the strongest, as it is in all the iterations of Alien I have tested. I own FB of the original, Oud Majestueux, Essence Absolue, Liqueur and Eau Extraordinaire (and I love them all).

This is "softer" than Alien and may well be an excellent choice for people who find the original too much. Having only sprayed once, the sillage is moderate; normally I spray far more extravagantly, so would expect it to be at least heavy - if not enormous, when used "normally" (for me, anyway!).

I'll edit this for longevity in a few days once I've given it a proper wear. For what it's worth though, the single spray to the back of my hand is still very clearly present four hours later, so I would predict longevity to be very good, particularly on clothing.

Is it worth buying a bottle if you already have Alien or Alien Oud Majestueux? Well... Probably not. Will I buy a bottle? YES!

lulu169

Before anyone else gives lulu169 a thumbs up for her reviews, please read the comment below which I have just cut and pasted from the reviews on her profile. This was on the Valentino Uomo Acqua Valentino page, but has been deleted, probably because it was voted down.

"I just keep smiling when getting exactly those reaktions from angry members here :DDDD I do it, folks, Im the one who vote before even smelling the fragrances just for the fun of it. so what? :D"

I have nothing to add.

lulu169

well this one is a precious gem! expensove, for sure, but it smells expensive as well. starts off with a blast of warm spices mixed with vanilla and safron and and quickly develops into a slightly musky woody composition with soft jasmin-tea notes. good for winter for sure but i would dare wearing is at spring time as well. the bottle Looks precious on my vanity as well, like a juwel. geogeous!

meissie1982

When I see it in stores this spring I will sniff it for sure. I love TM line: all of them!
Last november I had the chance to smell the Oud one, what a gem, but the price of Euro 125,- was too high at that moment. But it was so nice.
I love to smell this new one.

Positively lethal!!!!

The perfume AND the review before mine.

THUMBS UP!!!

corkscrewcurly

Remarkable.

It's not out yet, but someone has assessed its longevity as "poor" - surely a first for ANY Thierry Mugler fragrance, let alone Alien?

And that's aside from the apparently wild variations in sillage...

Thank you to the five people who have already voted to let us know whether they love/like/dislike this fragrance and when it is best worn (spring daytime is currently favourite, although it is also best worn in summer, winter and autumn and at night. Apparently).

It's such a shame the contributors didn't trouble themselves to leave a review, given their extensive testing of this new fragrance, for which reason I'll take their recommendations with a shovel of salt.

ETA. This is not even showing on the Thierry Mugler website yet... I know, because I searched for it. (Thursday 16 February 2017)

Can NOT wait for this!!
