Womanity by Mugler is a fragrance for women. Womanity was launched in 2010. Womanity was created by Mane, Alexis Dadier and Ralf Schwieger.

18 years after Angel and 5 years after extraordinary Alien, Thierry Mugler is saluting femininity. The new edition will thrill all fans of his creations. It is named Womanity and it arrives in stores in mid-June 2010. Thierry Mugler with Womanity plans to launch (for the third time) a bestseller perfume and which will attract the public for years.

Womanity is a word created to connect femininity, humanity and city. An overture to this edition began in March 2010 when Mugler launched Womanity.com web site with an idea that every woman cooperates in its creation and finishing touch. With an aim to create contents for the website, one story is finished by several women, each of them writing on her page. Contest asks women to give creative ideas for a particular project or cause. The winner will work with Mugler to finish the website.

Fragrance WOMANITY was created as a part of this phenomenon, in a pink bottle. Connections between women are presented as chains and ring on top of the bottle which is decorated with metal frieze with symbolic design. Design of the top part of the bottle and beautiful frieze figures can be interpreted as Gothic or Art Deco style. Mugler's idea was however that the frieze encapsulated and depicted women of all generations.

Composition of Womanity was created by Mane, as a powerful contrast of elements. By using the new molecular process of extraction, Mane manages to extract natural aromas of fig for sweet accords. Savory notes originate from caviar and the structure in ensured by fig wood aromas. Pierre Aulas, olfactive director of Clarins Fragrance Group, says that it is a true challenge to work on Mugler's idea of combining savoury and sweet notes.

This is the woman who knows she's beautiful and doesn't need confirmation. It's pretty unique. Opens up with a strange green and earthy note that softens to the yummiest non sweet fruity accord (when I tried it i thought it was peach or peach blossom, then realized this is what fig note smells like).
This is your non typical most feminine scent.
Wear this on your skin not on clothes, and it really needs to be worn during a hot weather to stand out.

addangel

This is probably the most unique perfume I own. It’s pretty loud and unconventional, but I absolutely love it. I wore it to a festival one year, and it will forever bring me back to those youthful and carefree summer days. I definitely wouldn’t wear it to an office, but it’s still a spring/summer staple.

qwertygluip

its feminine in a very universal way. it's aquatic but warm at the same time. almost no sweetness. at first it was nutty. there was some unpleasant sourness happening an hour after spraying, but it disappeared and now my skin smells as if I had spent a whole day near the sea. I suspect that's the scent of the goddess Venus emerging from sea foam :)

jeannebelmondo

Does anyone know if the samples in a pink plastic dab-on bottle with a little loop to hang off your purse are the original formulation or reformulation?

ElliePerfume

A younger ladies fig, mature and wearable however not too mature where it ages a person. Strong and long lasting but not over powering. Not comparable whatsoever to other fig perfumes (like dioriviera) I can’t even locate the same style of fig note.

taboo2287

If you love this scent and want a dupe that smells 95% identical to womanity with a great longevity then try Zuma 1975 by Thin Wild Mercury.. u welcome 😊

Elyka21

My signature perfume. The story of it's beauty will live through generations, I will tell it to grandchildren 💞. Absolute masterpiece.

Rayy.an

Definitely doesn't smell like any of the listed notes to my nose... just like all mugler perfumes. I think I should try this again and see if it smells the same.

pureangelgirl

MY GUILTY PLEASURE. This is a ripe fig that you could bite, and as it macerates (my bottle is SUPER old), it ripens, how this scent filled my childhood, it is so feminine, so tender, so juicy. I could see this suiting any woman, but there is something sultry about it. You know what I'm talking about when I say this. And it is in the best way possible. It fills up your nose and your mouth and you can feel the salt- as if you are a seashell on the shore, lapped up, spun around, pretty and content.

Moukka

Blind bought it and it was worth it. Instant love. I don't know how fig or fig leaves should smell like. This is green and woody and there is aquatic type of freshness. I expected that Aura would smell like this. Sharpness and freshness are modetate. For me one spray is enough. Like other Muglers, this is strong too. This scent makes me think waterlilies.

DuruTheGuru

Very unique, not too sweet, not too sharp, not too feminine, not too genderless. Definitely modern and even futuristic. Love the metallic and salty notes combined with fig. Fell in love with it from the get go and this has never happened with another perfume before. My signature smell for years! They've certainly changed it in the last years and it's much harder to find but I still can't help loving it sooo much!

katemax

There's a spray cleaner that reminds me of this, it's method peach blossom antibacterial cleaner.

Glyceryl

I love this perfume. It’s certainly not an everyday fragrance and it performs the best in hot weather; that’s not to say you can’t wear it in cold weather though.
When worn in hot weather you get juicy fig with a heavy backdrop of sexy salted skin musk. Idk if it’s just my body chemistry but men were literally following me asking me what I was wearing. It has a very sexual nature about it.
When worn in cold weather I was told that I smell like juicy melon lol
It is a very polarizing scent. Idk if you can even purchase this one anymore; I still have a good amount of my big bottle left and I’m going to savor every drop. It’s extremely unique and very long lasting.

yana.nedeva

It's not a love, it's not a hate, but there's something in this perfume that just doesn't agree with my nose. I smell no body odour of any kind at all. The most prominent note to me is definitely just the fig, which is not a very popular note in perfumery these days so it definitely smells different but is it worth a purchase? Don't think so. It's not as marine to me as some describe, it reminds of Olympea, but Olympea definitely has that salty goodness going on whereas this one is just a weird amalgamation which doesn't quite hit the spot for me. I'd say this is not a safe blind buy - deffo try and get your hands on a sample first

UlianaM

I don't understand the hate around this perfume.
The opening is indeed unusual- bitter and a little salty. And I think this is the main reason of all this negative feedback- if you try on the blotter ,the first impression may not... impress :)
But some time after it turns in a perfume. Just a perfume. To me -generic smell of a sweater that was sprayed and on Monday and found it in the wardrobe on Wednesday. It's not aggressive. I'd say soft with no sharp edges.

I neither hate it, nor like it. To me smells obsolete. I am surprised it was made in 2010, 'cause I smell generic late 90th/00, before the "fruity juicy era".

NadaKimari

I smelt this a while ago in my aunt's closet, it is one of the weirdest scents I've ever smelt. I was drawn to the cool bottle but oh my! I don't understand why everyone is saying it smells like a vagina??? To me, it was salty and aquatic with a hint of animalistic. Very odd smelling, it might be appealing to folks that like niche fragrances. To my nose, it was salty and almost like a fragrance that went bad? It's not a safe blind buy at all!! Proceed with caution lol

wemberlyworries

After reading the reviews I have one question… what kind of vaginas have you people been smelling????

Thranduilseyebrows

Tried as part of a fig tester pack. It is very sickly sweet and not for me at all. Very very different to ADP Fico di Amalfi, it's not the same vibe at all. 1.5/5 for me

MidnightRoses

Holy crap is this stuff strong. I've never had a perfume be this strong for this long. My clothes still smell like it after going through the wash and hanging in my closet for a few days. A single half-spray on the skin is MORE than enough.

I'm not quite sure how I feel about the scent itself. I find it quite nice once it's calmed down, but wearing it for the 3+ hours it takes to get to that point is difficult. It also tends to go soapy on my skin, but it smells beautiful on my partner.

Main points: the salt definitely comes through but it's not fishy, there's a green note at the top that I find to be quite synthetic, and there's definitely a fruitiness but I don't think I'd call it fig.

And as for its reputation - if your vagina smells like this, you need to go to the doctor. The "eau de pussy" doesn't come through for me at all.

Not a terrible buy, it certainly looks pretty on my shelf. But given how large the bottle is, how strong it is, and how infrequently I'll actually use it, it's likely this bottle will outlive me.

Im_only_lurking

I dont understand how this is a polarising scent. It's fig trees at summer near a mediterranean beach. Basically what rezmail said is spot on.

nastyenka

I really struggle with calone in fragrances. No matter what, it smells like cheap-a** Calgon body spray from the 90s to me.

Womanity *almost* manages to get past my calone/marine accord prejudice. Almost. The fig note is lovely and I smell the salt from the caviar. I get what Mugler was going for, but I can't get past that generic watery smell. I wish I smelled the carnality others get.

It's honestly for the best, as I felt lucky to snag a teeny sample at under $20. If you don't have my sensitivities, you might love it!

TerceraMolar

It's so hard to find!😫
this could be Niche quality for sure, why do they always discontinue the good stuff? It's a very particular smell, strange, I love rare perfumes, this is a gem, this is what a mermaid would smell like, Mera from Aquaman smells like Womanity💕🙌🏼 it's salty and very aquatic, my signature perfume😍

Encontrarlo es un desafío , ¡te odio L'Oréal porque arruinas todo lo que tocas!
Y para los que dicen que huele a sudor 😒 ojalá su sudor oliera así ,por favor no me hagan reir🙄

cdcs

I blind bought a green juice mini bottle with Thierry Mugler written on it. The fig wasn’t able to save this fragrance on my skin, it almost smells like a salad on me, thanks to the salty caviar. Overall, very interesting, but the saltiness really isn’t for me. Could see this in either a horny mermaid or a horny sailor. Smells like skin that bathed in the sea and let it dry off in the sun. Nice.

dani78

If I have to wear just one perfume until the rest of my days, that would be.❤️🔥

s2jkbrad

Oh my gosh! I finally get to smell this. I went to Dillard's to buy my son a cologne and was bs'ing with the sales lady for samples and I'm picky and grumpy by nature and she was a great match! I kept saying no to things and said I wanted the ocean scent and she mentioned coconut and I was like no- I want something dirty that everyone won't like. I always wanted to try womanity but it's discontinued. And from behind the counter in a little pouch she pulls some out, sprays it on a card and says that's it. I said, Omgosh, I love it. She's like, yeah you can't get it and I was like how do I buy that bottle? And she said "No, but I'll spray you" and I drove home in a pillow of a twinge- y, fig. Love it so much.

Mando

This past year I've been acquainting myself with this scent. I keep thinking to myself this really isn't exclusively a woman's scent. I really think it's more unisex. The briney salty note with the sweet fig notes smells quite delectable and the longevity on skin is 10 plus hours. I think this one was terribly named and marketed, TBH. It's very futuristic smelling, ahead of its time. I would think this would've been better released by Comme des Garcons or Etat Libre d'Orange. Most likely it would've still been discontinued by either of them but it would've made more sense for either to release. When Thierry Mugler used to have Clarins behind his parfums, you could expect something special, unfortunately no longer since L'Oreal is a destroyer than a bulider of perfume empires. This scent is truly an underrated special piece of modern art

JackieM

Yeah, no fish, no bodily fluids, no dirty underwear, but for SURE saltiness and something metallic. Which if nothing else, might evoke blood for some. So there's that.

Def a wild and risky choice, on brand with early Mugler, but for me ultimately an unsettling mix with sweetness and fruitiness. It might be kind of beachy to some, but for me these particular beachy scents are too literal and don't go together all in one bottle. If it matters, I only ever have tested the original version of this.

If you're looking to evoke a vampire on a Mediterranean vacation, this might be it for you. You're more fun than me!

Peaches77

Wasn’t sure I liked this at first, but it grew on me. It’s for a nice sweetness but also an earthy-ness.

Vesperexa

This smells like a horny mermaid, and I love it. I'm so sad that I've fallen in love with this now that's it's discontinued, especially as I hear there's nothing like it. It's all salty fig on my skin, and a hint of something animalic. Ok, I'll say what I mean: there is a tiny hint of vagina. I love that, I think it's unique, seductive and sexy. I have to buy a decant immediately. I'll see how I do with that, but in my heart I already know I want a full bottle.

rezzmail

Some of you all are so boring, like it's a fig forward, savory scent that doesn't even vaguely smell like "cat".

It's quite the gorgeous and fresh scent despite all the hubbub. Something clean, yet quite lived in, not quite "challenging" like I would've hoped. It's naturalistic and holistically woman in it's impression of a nymph-like figure; fig juice running over skin and seaside air scenting the hair.

Elena_Dz

I used to call this perfume "an ugly scent", the first impression wasn't favourable, but I quickly overcame it and bought my first bottle. That was 9 years ago. Never forgot this scent and just received a full bottle as a gift. It is as good as before, salty juiciness and definitely not your average perfume.

vibrant.girl

Fig jam on crusted bread with a sprinkle of sea salt. It's *very* fig-forward, and the salt note does remind me of caviar - an umami saltiness, not a fishy/briney saltiness. This frag doesn't suit my skin chemistry but it is really lovely, and a classic Mugler in that it's a bolder take on a classic fruit + woods blend.
And the bottle? Perfection. Love a designer who goes big with a vision, no more boring rectangles!

amid

F*ck you very much, L'Oreal. It is no longer available on mugler site. You killed the best mugler fragrance.

This is by far the best blended women's perfume in the world, but ,to your surprise, men love it way more than women do. It's the best blend for a fig marine based frag!

@druidica Exactly. It's just a normal beachy fruity salty Fig fragrance. The whole weird thing comes from the "fishy caviar" nonsense, because neither the fragrance as a whole, nor caviar smell fishy. I'm not some rich guy who eats caviar for breakfast, but even I know how it smells and tastes and it's far from fishy.

Bluetsprincess

You can't even get this on the mugler website anymore? L'Oreal is forever my arch nemesis for killing this one!!!!!!!!!!

druidica

Why are people so weird about this perfume. It's so normal.

ava96

This perfume is everything I could ever wish for from a fig perfume. I absolutely love it! I just have a decant of 10ml but I will be on the lookout for a bottle.

Edit: I did find a bottle of the original formula, I used it for a few months... And I got tired of it. It's way too sweet for my nose now and I moved on to slightly less sweet fig perfumes such as Gris Charnel.

pErsOnALytEAsE

Best way to describe the scent is that it is extremely unique like all Mugler fragrances. I picture a woman running barefoot with a wavy white dress on the beach in slow motion...Fresh, sweet, dreamy...

The sad thing is that I bought 4 gift sets to give away to family and I had my sister and mom smell it and didn't care much for it. So if anyone wants them let me know.... I have a couple of the Taste of fragrance version too....These are all the Thierry Mugler version. Have them stored in one of my cold, dark closets. Brand new unopened and willing to trade. DM me if interested. :P

Tshahb

More like fig with clay and/or pistachio rather than caviar, but the overall effect is rather marine.

Very interesting and unique. It's maybe my favourite fig scent. It captures and uses every aspect of fig to full effect, creating an arresting, intriguing landscape.

I spray a bit more, and now I can sort of get the caviar thing. There's metal, blood and salt becoming almost more prominent but I get the impression this is an aspect of the fig, a figment of the note (sorry) ;D

It's a blind buy I don't regret, a bizarre and fascinating perfume which I may or may not ever wear out of the house.

_Aromatica

Has anyone purchased it from the Mugler website not earlier than a month ago ( May 2023) ?
Has it been reformulated? 🥺
To my nose , I can't smell freshness anymore, neither green parts of the fig tree.
Sweet jammy fig with woody accords, flattened not so potent as before.

Briar's Reign

It's very beautiful. A very clean, fruity scent, with a smidge of ocean breeze to it. This may sound odd but it reminds me of an infirmary clinic (but in a really good way!). It's reminiscent of Midnight Romance by Ralph Lauren with a salty twist. Very romantic imo

This was a blind buy for me, and I have no regrets. It's a very unique ocean scent. Would definitely recommend if you are into unorthodox fragrances

Dina France

Something is definitely wrong with these notes. This smells like a hazelnut paste, a bit of pistachio also, but not as sweet as Nutella. Maybe some woody notes far behind. That’s it!

DinaFrance (perfume reviews on youtube)

Tony Shades

Whoever insists with the "fishy" notes has a faulty impression of fig, caviar and last but not least, of women. Trust me, if this really smelled like a woman in that way, crazy men would buy it for themselves.
In reality it's just a fresh salty beachy fruity fig fragrance, unusual, but not gross. I personally don't like it because I have a problem with salty fragrances and Olympea seems to be the only one I'm ok with.

AoiUsagi

I've had a sample of this for a year now. The first time I tried it, the fishy, metallic notes were too strong and I felt weird wearing it around people, though I didn't dislike it. Trying it again now, either it's mellowed or my nose has changed, because it's much more wearable! There's something almost fresh-juiced about it, like you've squeezed figs and oranges with your bare hands (though it doesn't literally smell like oranges). The salty tang is still there, just enough to make it unique. I really, really like it!

MadameMerola

I am a huge Thierry Mugler fan and Angel (the first edition) will always have a place in my heart. I was eager to try Womanity and I remember thinking “what is this” the first time I tried it on my skin. I am not used to wearing marine scents so I didn’t know what to make of it initially. I waited patiently to see how it will evolve on my skin before making a decision to buy it or not.

I bought it purely for the fact that it is so different from the types of perfumes I wear regularly and was nothing like Angel yet interesting and unique enough to give it a chance. I do wear it from time to time on its own but I prefer layering it with a sweet perfume oil because I like some sweetness in my scent.

So, as a marine scent, I give it a thumbs up 👍🏽. Loved how daring Mugler scents used to be. Too many perfume brands smell alike nowadays and it unimpressive.

WhiteDaisy

I used to have it long time ago. Seeing the reviews has reminded me with the beautiful sensations I was feeling whenever I wear it. I’m thinking now to buy it.

In the past, whenever I want to feel sexy, feminine, full of power and seduction, I will go for it. It made me feel like I’m a queen of beauty , inner beauty revealed in the outer world with the aura of “ womanity perfum”.

Those feelings are kind of the subtle power, the silent smartness, the calming assertiveness and confidence of a woman. Strong and delicate, powerful and calm, the paradox of potent energy.

Enar_smells_good

Oh, I love this. It was exactly what I was hoping for. Fresh, a little beachy, it definitely reminds me of the seaside in a good way. Sexy, unique and powerful. I’m not sure if it is discontinued in Europe, but I think it is in the USA. Still possible to get but kind of difficult to find and getting more pricey. I can see this being a little polarizing but I don’t agree with people saying that it is “fishy.” If Mugler brings it back, I hope that they don’t reformulate. This is one of my favorites now!

dxjon

(Beyoncé voice) SHAZAM!

I got it just now and testing it out…

my god, memories coming back. it’s the same scent I grew up loving. but now that I’m grown, it just fits me even more. can I say that this really is a perfume that fits me as a trans woman because this is just pure bold unabashed femininity. thinking of that Mae West quote about feeling like a woman.

first spray is that sweet, aquatic fig. very much bright and sunny, still very fresh, and it’s glistening in the sun. but but BUT! it moves to the beach, and it’s ripening in the sun, and there’s a salty sea breeze whipping past you, carrying the smell of salty wood and vague metals in the beginning. it starts to go down into this ripe, sticky, jammy beast that almost hits you with like… idk how to describe it other than “overripe alien fruit falling on a gigeresque planet” with the metals and woods that pop up along with an animalic note; the caviar is definitely pulling her weight.

she was frankly one of the first salty/marine fragrances I’ve smelled, and to me she’s still one of the forerunners to the marine tinged fragrances on the market right now. Womanity is probably the reason I’m drawn to a lot of them, but the others don’t seem to combine that sweet side as well, so Womanity still takes the cake on that one.

it absolutely reminds me of delina; sweet yet zingy, but I think this is like delina’s cousin from chromatica. there’s something futuristic and inviting here.

the sillage is insane and I get whiffs from my arms when they’re behind me. longevity I think is gonna be updated but if I remember well, it’s gonna be a beast. she’s definitely in my rotation now. I missed you, ms giger.

ps. myorigines verdict: real deal <3

pps. it’s NOT not pussy. it definitely has a primal scent. almost like pussy dark intense by rammstein. not indolic, but something else. a true love.

dxjon

waiting for my new bottle as a “finished uni” gift for myself but I have to write some stuff down about it!

a) it’s not Discontinued™️ but it’s harder to find; Notino and Flaconi are listed as official retailers on Mugler’s German website, but I think My Origines has it as well, but I’m awaiting to see if it’s the real deal.

b) I remember having this wayyyy back when I was still in Manila; as a kid I was charmed by how gorgeous and mysterious the bottle looked, and the smell really stays with me in my mind; as a sweaty kid it mingled well with the sweat smell and it was this weird, milky fruit smell that had very woody undertones. I know now that I was smelling figs and fig wood along with the marine note, and it shaped how I wanted my perfumes to be, which is why I go for sweet yet intriguing scents more often, along with the truly wild ones.

c) genuinely love the giger bottle. it’s very chromatica ball, brutalist futurism compared to ghost in the shell by ELDO, which reminds me of more renaissance tour style sorayama-ish clean robotics. half of the reason I’m buying is for the bottle.

d) mugler PLEASE put it back in stores. I need to be able to hawk it out to my friends

lickroicevanille

This is an EXTREAMLY juicy, ripe scent. Fig from opening to dry-down. Florals and some salt along the way. Weirdly enough it reminds me of the famous Delina. It's extreamly sweet, not gourmand at all, dash of salt and floral freshness. Original and interesting, no V. detected.

domesticangel

hey, can I be weird for a second and say I DO think it smells like vagina but that I like it because of that?

alright, I’ll back up. this is like, WILD amounts of fig on first blast. I honestly almost don’t like it to begin with—I just stick it out because I know the dry down is where the magic happens. this moves from cold to hot to me—the initial fig is distinctly chilly and fresh, but over time, you leave it out in the sun on a briney shore and it really begins to deepen.

your first hour or so in is when things get sticky. it’s sweet in the way a warm jam is, backed up by earthy salt. it’s not cold anymore—it’s intimate and animalic. It’s saliva on warm skin. It’s intriguingly metallic. I have NEVER smelled metallics in a perfume before womanity. it is weird and it is haunting and I love it. It’s the smell and taste of blood. when you bite your lip or cut your finger and you lick the blood off, would you say it’s because you actively enjoy the taste and smell? or is it because you’re just naturally drawn to it in some way?

this is how I feel about womanity—do I like her? I don’t know—if I’m enamored of her, obsessed with her, drawn in by her, and endlessly intrigued by her, what does it matter if I LIKE her? doesn’t that seem infantile in comparison to all the other feelings she dredges up in me?

anyway, we were talking about vaginas. I do get pussy from this! I can’t lie! now I don’t mean unwashed, 100% organic vagina right in your face, but that hot, sweaty, candied umami unmistakably EVOKES pussy for me. it’s no post intensive workout-coochie or anything—this is more the panties you put on last night after your shower. however, I truly only get this along with the metallics when I’m smelling very close to my wrist hours into the dry down. truth be told, anyone near you is likely just going to get wafts of fig cut by savory salt. I think a fragrance causing your imagination to run wild is a magical thing, but let’s not get TOO wild—there’s for sure some pussy magic (vagic?) happening here, but it’s nothing your office mates are going to notice. unless you’re a little more than mates with them, I guess.

I’ll mark myself down as firmly in the camp of “You People Sound Insane” in regards to those that think this smells like fish. caviar doesn’t even smell like fish, so I’m not sure how anyone’s getting fish from this. that’s a truly wild concept to me, but I guess womanity is one of the better fragrances to demonstrate just how differently people experience the same scent. It’s strange and salty and metallic and animalic, I’ll give anyone that—but there isn’t an ounce of fish in there.

anyway, I love this weird bitch. I found her after a deliberate departure from floral crowd pleasers in search of something stranger and darker, and I’m so happy I could find that in her. if you ARE of the floral crowd pleaser persuasion, she’s not the girl for you, and that’s fine. I personally blind bought this to pleasing results, but I can’t say I’d recommend others do the same. regardless, there is such a high art to mugler bringing us this sweet, pink woman who has fig juice running down her chin and smells of warm, fertile skin, yet adorns herself with cold and uninviting clanging metals and fresh blood. this evokes so many visuals of what it means to capture the essence of a woman, each more interesting than the last.

Icarel

A very enigmatic and powerful fragrance. A watery, spicy and mysterious fig. I know it's not listed as spicy but I find it spicy but maybe it's the fig and fig leaves... For my nose, fig always give a hot/cold effect to fragrances that I love and find it very sultry and enigmatic. It captivates me and lasts on the skin the whole day. On clothes, it's even several days since I have a top on the famous "chair" (you know the one with clothes neither clean nor dirty, just wore once but not enough to go to laundry haha) that has been perfuming my room since 3 days. A very good perfume and a wonderful and coherent scent/name/bottle combo. Not very popular but certainly a hidden gem, especially in a collection. A piece of art.
Signature scent level 100.

With this fragrance, you really get what you think you'll get. It's just a whole fig - from the tree and leaves to the ripe fruit. This got me into figs as a note, tbh. The opening is fresher and greener, maybe a bit sharp, but still very nice and then it settles into a smooth, sensual, ripe fig. It's straightforward and simple in that way, but that's not necessarily bad.
Very weird way to describe it, but it smells 'fertile' to me 😅 That's what I imagine the Empress in tarot to smell like. Feminine, soft and well-blended. Honestly, I'd love to see a guy rock this, would be very interesting.
I don't get any of the fishiness some people complain about. If anything, there's a very well-balanced saltiness to even out the sweetness of the fig. 9/10
Edit: It definitely performs better in slightly warmer months.

intoxicatinggourmand

I HATED this fragrance when I first smelled it. However, the second time I put this on my skin, I found it to be initally extremely salty, which probably was the reason I was put off at first. I believe im the only one to ever think this but, it smells like brown sugared fig. Maybe my nose is broken, but I am starting to really love it.

bittersweetreveries

Opening is similar to Dolce&Gabbana's L'Imperatrice.
Fresh, fruity, somewhat sparkly, green.
On the skin it's spicy, figgy and sweet. Dry down is woody, sweet, nutty, salty musk.

It doesn't wow me, in fact it's a rather generic smelling perfume (I have the latest pink juice formula).
The comparisons to expensive fragrances shampoos are accurate.

Torn between selling it and keeping it for the Summer where I think (hope) this scent will blossom in the heat.
I am however smitten by the jingly jangly, Giger-esque bottle.

Update 1 day later - wearing it to bed: It's growing on me.

jbenite4

I want to love this given all of the background and purpose behind it, but, on me, it smells like the (high-end) shampoo my partner uses. I’ve recently read something about how successful perfume accords are “stolen” and used in items of mass consumption, so maybe this is the case with Womanity.
I get that salty note, not sure it is caviar but cannot get past that shampoo smell.
I will kee trying though.
Tested on a 2ml decant.

Lenniecha

When I first smelled it in the store, I thought I’d like it. A big no for me. It’s an overwhelming smell, very strong, fishy a bit from the caviar. It’s unique for sure, but definitely do not blind buy this scent, you have to try it on your skin first and wear it for an hour, it evolutes on the skin and not exactly for the best (in my case).

hijoebye

Mugler is known for polarizing and boundary pushing fragrances, many of which I adore. I took that into consideration when I got my decant of this. Fig is one of my favorite notes but I don't think this is the type of fig that I typically enjoy. I do think it's momentarily fruity, but I find it more woody and dry, I pick up more of the "tree" aspect than green/leafy or the fruit itself. I don't exactly know what caviar is meant to smell like, but there is definitely an underlying marine quality that evokes oceanic algae.

Look, I get Mugler fragrances are not meant for everyone! This one isn't for me, but I can't decide if I'm indifferent or repulsed by it, which is what I think captivates many about Mugler's (pre-Loreal) creations.
The "Womanity" aspect about this is a bit of a mystery; as it doesn't evoke femininity or make use of notes typically used in female fragrances.

SmokeyLady

This is a masterpiece! Unique and niche. First fragrance I bought myself. After a couple of months I realized it is too difficult for me to wear it and that I should've got Angel or Alien. The comments here were so bad, even rude. Although I still find it a bit too much for me, I am glad I have it, I am starting to accommodate myself to it and we will have a great time in hot weather.

I think the liquid should be green or blue, it doesn't smell pink. True Mediterranean smell.

You can clearly imagine you just got out of the sea, wet skin and you stand in the shades of the trees near the beach

The bottle is beautiful, Greek goddess, feminine and powerful! I love myths and this fragrance speaks to me. She can reward you but also be cruel! Join her army!

Tony Shades

I will repeat this because the fans and interested people need to know:
IT IS NOT DISCONTINUED
I can't post links, but you just need to check the Mugler website to see for yourself.

I had never tried this before now. I love Mugler and in an effort to have all of the main fragrances, I bought a small bottle for a decent price on EBay. I don’t know whether I’m glad I didn’t try it before it was discontinued or sad. I think I would be heartbroken had I tried this sooner, and then lost it, but it’s also sad I havent had this in my life until now.

This is beautiful. I read Lady Gaga loved this scent and I can see that perfectly.

The fig is gorgeous— fresh, not jammy, just an authentic fresh-cut fig. The saltiness from the caviar (which doesn’t smell fishy at all, so idk why people are thinking this smells like fish lol). It really develops on skin, and in a way almost has a skin effect to it. Truly unique and gorgeous, but I don’t think as weird as some say it is.

The bottle is a work of art, even the small one I have, and I’m proud to have this in my collection. A true shame it was discontinued.

SailorV

I used to dislike Womanity. Years ago I tried it and found it dry, metallic and terrible. But I always loved the EDT (Eau pour Elles) and I recently tried the Taste of Fragrance flanker, so I wanted to revisited the original.

And now... I actually like it! Sure, Eau pour Elles is easier to wear, fresher and fruitier, more lovable to me personally, but nowadays I actually don't find Womanity metallic anymore. It's fruity, salty, oceanic, sweet and savory at once. Maybe it's a bit of an acquired taste because of the saltiness, or it's easier to understand after salty fragrances have been a trend for years. It's certainly not for everyday or everyone.
This has a really ripe, jammy fig note, which I appreciate so much because I love figs as a fruit, but never got the hype around green fig leave fragrances. The so-called caviar note smells like a strong, realistic breeze from the ocean, without the usual clean aquatic notes. And there is something spicy, warm and lived-in lurking in the background that makes even more intriguing and also surprisingly wearable in cool weather.

Even back when I didn't like this, I never thought Womanity smelled like fish or lady parts (which should not smell similar anyways). I mean I'm a straight woman and don't work as a gynecologist, so my experience is very limited, but I can hardly imagine that other women smell like ripe figs, the ocean or even metal down there.

As far as I know this is still available in some stores and on the Mugler website in 80 ml and 100 ml refill. All the smaller sizes, flankers and body care products are discontinued though.

Fenissa

It's not fishy. Caviar does not smell fishy. It's salty. Anyone who is picking up a fishy or rancid note in this is being subject to the power of suggestion, but that was all part of Thierry Mugler's appeal. The caviar note is a parlour trick intended to shock and dismay. He loved to cause controversy and his perfumes are all works of art whether you love or hate them.
Womanity is sweet yet marine. It's one of the rare perfumes I will wear for several days in a row. It intoxicates me as soon as I reach for that pink juice in its beautiful Gigeresque bottle and hear the chain jingle against the glass.
I have stopped people in their tracks while wearing it. No one smells fish when they are smelling it blindly. It is captivatingly beautiful and my favourite of all the Mugler fragrances.
Longevity and silage are both strong. Two sprays is more than enough to last the whole day, but my bottles are all pre-Clarins and L'Oréal. I feel it is quite unisex and smells fantastic on a man.
My only complaint is that the box is super flimsy. I keep all of my fragrances in their boxes to protect them, but the womanity box is the worst I have, especially considering the bottle can be quite heavy.
It has not been discontinued. It is available to buy on the Mugler official website only.
I love it so much.

Tony Shades

Yes, there is truth to the effect of seeing the caviar note in the description, no doubt about that. Of course it must be fishy, even before actually sampling it, right? And when you do, you automatically think about the caviar and, voila, there is the fishy note. Who cares about the salty beachy fig if we are busy with the fishy caviar note from the website? Only those who actually take a moment to figure this fragrance out and realize it's just a (strange) fig fragrance and nothing fishy about it (pun intended).

Tony Shades

A rather unusual but NOT fishy summery beachy fresh fig fragrance. The fishy allegations are suspiciously misogynistic and distasteful if you ask me.
PS. No, it's not discontinued.

Alexandra_g14

Every time I wear Womanity I always get the question of what perfume I'm wearing. Honestly, I just found out that it's discontinued and to be honest for me it's sad news because I really love it. In Europe at least you can not find it anymore.

pink_fox

From Mugler to L'Oreal, from an original, extravagant brand to a mass market one, from a controversial smell to a mass pleasing, from a beast to a kitten. This is what happened to Womanity. It was reformulated again and tamed down. It is less woody, less salty but instead more fruity, more sweet. Longevity and silage are not how they used to be. I was using 2-3 puffs and I could still smell it on my clothes after 2 days. Now I use 5-6 puffs and reapply after 3-4 hours. It is available only as an "online exclusive".

Mother Nurgle

Smells like salt and fig - the whole fig, leaves and all. Fresh, green, salty and a bit sweet. Moderate sillage and lasts for 14 hours on my skin. The perfect scent for Spring and Summer.

Peachyportia

The best fragrance of all time. It’s genuinely so beautiful. I wore it so much as a teen that people can smell where I have been. I really hope it comes back in to production because I would never buy another fragrance again.

It’s a salty sweet scent. Figgy and fresh. Enormous scent but not over powering or heady achy at all!

Chech85

I loved this! I used to wear womanity in 2010 while I was dating my husband. I would get compliments all the time. It’s so unique and bold. Oh how I wish I could find this gem at an affordable price. The nostalgia would be unreal.

lmnsvgz

Less salty and a lot more green than I remember. It has been reformulated 100%. The fig is what I smell in the beginning, it adds some sweetness but it's natural, not too sweet or overwhelming. The drydown is quite green, fresh with some salt.

bazilfrance

This is a masterpiece ! Womanity really introduces me to the house of thierry mugler . Its original , unique , one of a kind , nothing similar . Unfortunately it was discontinued. I guess it was too ahead of its time ! Really want everyone to at least give it a try ! Its really different anything on the market

amid

Any idea when it will be back on international market, anyone?? I understand it's listed on mugler.co.uk, but for me, here in romania, it's not available. I can't find it anywhere in stores here.

AlienCowGirl

I just blind bought it and WOW this is one of my favourites so far. Definitely nothing "fishy" about it. It's very woody on my skin but also sweet, reminds me of burning Palo Santo. Dry down is more fruity and leafy. I don't think I tried anything similar. As it's a Mugler fragrance it's not a typical "people pleaser" so definitely not a perfume to blind buy if you don't have spare $. I was lucky and I love the fragrance but I can totally understand the like - dislike ratio.

stinkyfrog

despite the name, womanity seems to be quite the unisex (and susprisingly..... incredible ???) fragrance. boy is it delicious !!!

it's very fruity, but not Too fruity - tbh i have never actually smelled a fig but i would guess this is what it smells like; a fresh, sweet, pomegranate-y/stone fruit type smell. it is then balanced perfectly by the fig leaf and salt note, both giving a hint of punchy fresh greenness + woodiness and even a little "skin smell" for lack of better words. i'm using a lot of food terms but this perfume makes me want to eat something.... the smell of it has me dreaming of a fruit and cheese charcuterie platter (with a lil margarita thrown in for good measure) on a breezy beach on a lazy sunday afternoon ⛱️🍇🍹

she's a bit provacative and crazy but at the end of the day she just wants to have fun ! she's here for a good time and she's giving us one for sure !! the negative reviews are def surprising to me. this has got to be one of the most crowd-pleasing muglers i've come across so far. 10/10. can't wait for it to get warmer out bc i feel this would absolutely flourish in the summer heat <3

mechawitch

Being the raving fig lover that I am, womanity has always intrigued me. Fig and caviar (actually a marketing term for just "salt") seemed like a lovely and unique combination to me, but the thousands and thousands of hate reviews seemed to think otherwise. And the hate was visceral too! However, I decided to take a leap of faith and I finally blind bought it! The notes combo and the bottle were too enticing, and I must confess that even the hate comments piqued my interest even more.

It felt like my biggest gamble ever in terms of perfume! The best part is that it really paid off. I am utterly in love with this perfume!

The caviar note is not fishy, metallic and it definitely does NOT smell like genitalia! (who did even start that rumor?!) To me, it smells like marine salt, with a hint of citrusy zest even! It reminds me of the lime and salt combo served along with tequila shots. It is not similar to the salt note in Olympea either, which is too cloying and sticky for my taste.

In regards to the fig, it's a ripe, green and leafy scent, enshrouded by the marine salt. It differs a lot from the fig in Philosykos (which I adore), since it's not milky or coconutty. Think of it as a ripe fig covered in a crust of marine salt and lemon zest, served on a fig tree leaf. It's a such an unique take on fig and I love it!

I have never smelled anything remotely similar to Womanity and I love having it in my collection. I don't understand the hate at all, because even with how salty it is, is not an offensive fragrance at all! If you're interested in this one like me, please don't get swayed by the hate online and give it a try!

Fenissa

Let me begin by saying categorically that Womanity is not fishy.

Indeed, Caviar itself is not fishy. It's salty and marine like the ocean but not at all fishy.

The power of suggestion by including a controversial fantasy note such as caviar makes people feel they are smelling fish but honestly they are not.

It is simply green fig leaves with sweet, salty fig calcified in ocean spray.

The true beauty in Womanity is in it's simplicity. It contains only four notes - contrast that with Angel which contains at least twenty eight, you can appreciate what a departure Womanity was for the house of Mugler.

The bottle is fantastic. It should be classed as the most beautiful perfume bottle in the world imho. It is very Giger-esque to my eye and a true feast for the senses. Even the sound of the metal chain jingling against the glass is a delight to listen to.

It's a one in a million perfume, still perfectly unique and tenacious today. Nothing smells quite like any Mugler perfume and Womanity is no exception. People will love it. People will hate it. But no one can ever say it failed to make a lasting impression whether they liked it or not.

I have bottles of the old Thierry Mugler formula and the new one. The original version is best to my nose. It has a little more impact from sweet fig than the later Mugler versions. However, all of it's iterations are strong and long lasting.
I get a solid 8 hours wear from two sprays. Any more than two sprays would be too much. It's pretty beast mode.

I've smelled this on a couple of different men and it is just as spectacular on them as any lady. Maybe even more so. For that reason I would class it as feminine leaning unisex.

You must at least try this astounding fragrance once in your life. It is an experience you will never forget.

Two Words: Fish 🐟 and Salt 🧂.

I love Mugler Fragrances. I am a huge fan of this fragrance house as I believe they all stand strong among their peers, they’re unique, smart, interesting, quirky but wearable etc. I was gifted Womanity years ago and I was thrilled with the gorgeous bottle, the pink colour, the promise of something spectacular and man o’ man it was NOT what I was expecting or hoping for. You know that Beanboozle game where you spin the thing and it lands on a jelly belly jelly bean that is either Strawberry Banana Smoothie or Barf and you get Barf and wonder what they did to literally get the taste of barf into a jelly bean? Well Mugler has done the same thing with this Fragrance when they nailed the fish note. Yes there is fig but who cares if there is fig when there is FISH and SALT on top of it. Luckily I was able to return it after giving it a few tries, it remained nauseating to me. Even though I hated it, I have to give it credit (a little too late, I know). It really was something you’ve never had before. They went there and they smashed whatever they were trying to achieve.

iman.sallam.9

I always approach any Mugler perfume with caution because of the unpredictability. It might take me a while to understand what the creator meant then it starts to grow on me and I begin to appreciate/like it.
That wasn't the case with Womanity. It was truly up my alley and I fell in love straight away.
The Fig note is stunning. Salty Figs to be precise.
Quality and performance are superior.
Bottle is beautiful.
What's not to like?

TwistedWhiskers

Mugler fragrances are among the ones I'm most interested in revisiting and re-evaluating over time, and so far they've been the -only- ones that I've sampled or revisited purely out of an effort to appreciate the artistry, and nothing more, because an opinion on each Mugler composition seems almost mandatory in today's perfume world. I wasn't brave enough to test Womanity on my skin the first time we met- on paper was as far as I was willing to go. This time I took the plunge, and while I definitely experience more depth and nuance on skin, it smells essentially the same as it did to me on paper: fruity-fresh and vaguely aquatic with a crisp, sharp undertone. My nose wants to interpret the fig note as melon and the salty/marine/metallic note as vodka, but on skin I think I get a version that's closer to what's intended. More interesting to me, I now get the lactonic quality that was entirely missing on paper. The scent feels literally "fleshed out" from the version I experienced the first time, and I think a lot of people might describe this as a "my skin but better" kind of scent. I wouldn't be among those people because it simply doesn't appeal to me as much as other fragrances do, but I get it. There's definitely a skin-like quality that I didn't perceive before, and the scent is definitely more suggestive. I think I'm understanding better what makes it "controversial", but it still strikes me as mild and inoffensive considering Mugler's reputation. On me it doesn't seem to project as much as Alien or Angel, and the scent itself doesn't seem as flamboyant and loud as those. (It strikes me as the Mugler scent that's trying to aim for the "I hate perfume" market.) After about 2.5 hours I don't get the sharp undertone anymore; it's become even milder, but otherwise I still experience this as fairly linear. Watery fruit and soft, clean skin with the faintest hint of a bite. I like it better on skin, but my favorite Mugler is definitely still Alien. I still think this one suffers a lot from its name- a cumbersome and awkward "word" that seems to have been invented specifically to work in tandem with the elusive/imperceptible caviar note to be edgy and provocative in a rather questionable way. No, it doesn't smell "fishy", but thanks for putting that association in everyone's heads, Mugler. Women needed that. I mean, I know there are more serious problems than a questionable artistic choice for a perfume (and I'm glad I can recognize this), but if this is supposed to be a tribute to women, it seems like an underhanded one to me.

mapleresinmetalmust

I have a sample decant of unknown provenance, but which i think might be an older version? Certainly not getting much of the fruitiness that people say the new version has. The opening for me, for some reason, is hazelnut. Not a particularly realistic one, but like, a hazelnut note you might find in a cheap latte, but without any of the surrounding coffe/milk/sweetness that makes it enticing. This was just bitter.
Once it dried down, the bitterness reorganised itself into some woody notes, then the salt whiffed by, followed closely by the vaguely marine accords, and then finally the fig was there. Nothing wildly controversial, but not an instant love. Right now my favourite marine/seaside for summer is Dali Laguna, and my favourite salt I've ever smelled is Sel d'Argent by BDK. I'd have to wear this perfume a lot more, play around in it a bit, but the hazelnut for me is such a weird thing that it puts the whole thing off-kilter for me.
Overall a pretty nice kinda-aquatic scent. I know that hazelnut is nowhere in the notes, and ive only seen one other review even mentioning anything nutty, so it must be just some weird olfactory illusion. However, like and optical illusion, once you see the face in the vase, it's hard to stop. The note kept surfacing again - experientially, I would say I was on a beach opening out of a forest, the day after a storm. The sky is clear but the sand is still strewn with seaweed. Taking shelter under a spreading fig tree, you look up to the leaves - and someone pelts you with a single hazelnut, right between the eyes. Why.

ambergris4me

I am collecting more fig frags lately so I decided to try this. Was really looking forward to the caviar note because I always appreciate some saltiness. While Olympea's salt turns rich and warm on my skin, Womanity's salt is a screechy mess. This fragrance makes me physically uncomfortable like nails on a chalkboard. Interestingly my husband really enjoyed Womanity on the blotter, but agreed that it turned into something horrid on my skin.

renatareiss

is this disscontiued? I cant find it anywhere

bloodyheartofparadise

i've just noticed womanity is back in stock on mugler.co.uk (hopefully internationally too) after being out of stock with rumours of discontinuation for what seems like years! 20% off atm too i just got myself a 100ml refill bottle for £52 i'm so happy after being without for so long <3

ema2396

I smelled this in the store a few times years ago. The first few times I thought it smelled like mold and I didn't understand why anyone would wear that. Then, one day it smelled different, very aquatic and fresh. This fragrance isn't for everyone. Overall I don't like as most of the time it didn't have a great smell, but my vote would be different if it would always smell aquatic instead of moldy and putred.

Jakobk

I have the original formulation. I don’t understand the hate that this get it kind of smells like the inside of someone’s purse it smells like fruityness mixed with like a cigarette smell but like an expensive cigarette like mistys or Virginia slims. It’s a little bit trashy in the best way possible. But you could dress it up as well I suppose.

mandyads

I made a review back in March 2022 on the reformulation by itself, but I'm going to address something that no one seems to care about... comparing Womanity by Thierry Mugler (2010) vs Womanity by Mugler (maybe around 2019?). Spoiler alert: I, hands down, prefer the reformulation.

The 2010 was stored in amazing shape, but smelled quite caustic. There is a sharp, green bitterness to it that gives me the impression of "fig tree" in the notes. Compared to the original, the reformulated batch actually smells almost crowd-pleasingly sweet and fruity - imagine that... from Womanity! Haha, I literally can't believe it. Where the original has accords of fresh wood, green, aromatic... The reformulated has accords of fruity, sweet, and aquatic. in the new one, I smell a brightness that almost reminds me of black currant (one of my favorite notes). Smelling the reformulation without comparing it to the older formula, you get much more of the smoky saltiness. The 2010 has such a wood-like scent that it is almost reminiscent of an oud (not quite the best label, but I truly can't describe the smell... it reminds me of an accord in one of the Mugler Alien flankers w/ either oud or musk).

All in all, I think this is the best reformulation I've ever smelled; however, I am biased toward more feminine profiles. The original is not my cup of tea at all. The current formulation is still incredibly challenging to the typical nose, but still likable enough to grow into.

If you appreciate the profile of the current Womanity but still find it too daring - layer it with Angel Eau Croisière 2020 | 2x sprays Womanity, with 4-6x sprays of this fragrance if you’re looking to just have that hint of smokey-salty Womanity peeking through. I find the fig in both fragrances amplify the sweet fruitness.

Chiquita Virtual

I read some reviews that really make me wonder if we even tried the same perfume... In my skin, this smells delicious! I wasn't expecting I'd like it this much but I guess I really am into Mugler's craziest scents <3 eternal longevity & great sillage.

lhardman1908

One of my favorite fig fragrances. Rich, exotic, and smells like nothing else. I get a salty note, but nothing fishy, and the juiciness of the fig and the green of the fig leaf really radiate on me.

Gisela1978

Original? Yes. Wearable? Not to me. I get a strong headache inducing silvery metal kind of smell. I'll pass.

chimidoro

I don't really get anything aquatic or salty from this, per se.
I get a metallic, savory, fresh & fruity, woody fragrance with a touch of smoke.
Sort of creamy and shampoo like in the base.

I first tried it when I received a sample at the time of its release. I was actually kind of disappointed because it didn't shock or enthral. It instead seemed rather pleasant and run of the mill. I had excited myself with promise of "caviar", but I got fruity and fresh.
Fast forward a few years (?) And I bought the liqueur version, hoping that might be a bit more unique and brazen. Instead it was too sharp, too fruity, too sweet.
Fast forward again, to today, I bought an original formula. I went back to the original and this time without any promise of salty, briney caviar, I knew what I was in for but was still full of curiosity. I remembered (to a certain degree) what to expect, and I love it.
Though I must say I don't find it nearly as strong or lasting as I'd hoped for from reading the reviews. That's just my unlucky though. (Probably ought to mention that I'm a "one to two sprays only" kind of person. I generally apply one spray in the morning and one spray mid afternoon. Some nights I top up again of an evening also.)

This fragrance is gorgeous and addicting. Best worn in warmer weather.

My precious, my love, smells like no other. My bottle is empty and I can't find it in stores anymore. They say it's not discontinued, but out of stock for now..well, I hope it is true, because i can't imagine not smelling this again. So l'oreal, please give us our gem back.

muncierobson

I haven’t own this since 2012 (a Thierry Mugler labelled bottle - not Mugler).

It was softer than I expected then and actually, the 2022 bottle I just received (under L’Oreal’s Mugler) smells exactly as I remember.

Yes it is pink and has ‘woman’ in the name. I think it’s gender neutral and leans towards masculine (if you care for such things, which I do not).

The caviar note is again misleading - savoury and fresh but nothing fishy. I love the accord from fresh fig and the leaves/wood from the tree itself.

I often run past a big fig tree and the scent from it made me crave this fragrance.

It’s also buttery, like fresh salted popcorn at the cinema. Maybe I feel a hint of coconut (or wish to layer it with a coconut body lotion?).

Long lasting and decent projection but not a bomb like my signature Angel.

I can’t think of anything that smells like this which in 2022 is a unique selling point!

I have also read terrible things about Angel’s reformulations but maybe I will try it now (it had been getting softer for years anyway).

Several years ago, was in a smallish cosmetic store shopping for some eye makeup when I accidentally strayed to the perfume section. There were several testers on the counter and both Womanity and Eau Mega caught my eye due to their bottle designs. I sprayed one on each hand and it was love at first sniff for me with Womanity. On my skin, the fig was sweet and juicy, but tempered with a hint of greeness. After some time it became creamy, not dessert-like, but more of savoury-creamy. This wonderful scent lasted ages, more than 8 hours on my perfume-eating skin. That was the first of many, I've worn Womanity in all four seasons and I love her best in spring. My siblings detest her and cannot see any redeeming qualities. I found that she's not a crowd pleaser either. Don't really care, I wear Womanity for myself.

Tinabill

Womanity is as complex and faceted as any woman can be. She can be fresh and fertile as the green leaves, salty and stormy as the ocean, sweet and smooth as the figs but can also be dry and spicy as the woods. Nurture her and you reap her sweet fruit and rest in her shade, her broad leaves will cover up your flaws and her woods will shelter you. Annoy her and you drown in her stormy salty seas 😂
Womanity is edgy without being weird. At least not for us south the Mediterranean inhabitants. Fig trees 🌳 near the 🏝️ beach is just a norm.
I find it lovely; the contrast between the salty green freshness and the milky smooth sweetness of figs grounded by some woodiness in the base. Any fish lover knows that the freshest of the fish and fresh caviar will just smell like the see with no weird “fishiness”.
After the initial 10 minutes, the sillage on me is much closer than that of Angel or Alien but longevity is very good.

CeeTee

I have the OG. Not sure if it’s reformulated, so I have a backup. I can’t imagine not having it. When this launched, I was new to fragrance and wore Alien and Angel. (Alien was an instant love.) Angel was awful until it, too, became a love. Upon 1st sniffing Womanity, I recoiled.

I later received a decant with an Alien repurchase. The Mediterranean fig, salt and wood combo became a love after a couple of wearings. With more experience, I’ve come to see that most brands have a version of fig and wood. Some are more elegant than Womanity, and they’re priced accordingly. I find Womanity to be in this profile/style, but with that angular, cool girl, off the beaten path, classic Mugler (pre-L’Oréal) weirdness.

This is not a creamy fig. It’s dry/green. I don’t find it cloyingly sweet. It’s very salty and faintly metallic to my nose. The wood is very present, so you have to be okay with that, or you won’t like it. As for the caviar, ehh. It’s just salt. (You know how Olympea is salty? It’s that kind of salt. I’m not saying these two are alike, AT ALL, I’m just referring to the salty note.)

Performance is beast. Probably the best in my collection. I get many compliments from my female family members. My husband doesn’t like it, but that’s his problem. ;) I find it to be a great option for Spring thru fall in the daytime. It was an acquired taste, but now I can’t live without it!
Hope this helps!

clairesque

To me, this is very much a feminine beachy scent. I think the fig note is reading more like coconut to me, and there is a strong salty accord from the caviar. I wouldn't wear this anywhere but for a beach vacation. There's something green that gives the fragrance a refreshing quality, but the sweetness of the fig can be very intense and heavy at times so it wouldn't be my first pick for the beach anyway.

Htheone

I only use the old version. If I was forced to keep only five perfums for life, this would be one of them.

Olfa

One of those fragrances of Mugler. Its a matter of taste and preferences. Therefore you must smell it before blind buying this. But it’s worth having in your collection for sure.

Perfumerzlove

Smells like Kenzo World Power, but in the best Mugler way! It smells like a fancy vacation by the sea with depth and projection, you won’t be sorry because it’s very UNIQUE! :) <3

Laurus

Wow. This was so zesty and citrusy that first sniff felt ike I got orange juice in my eye. I liked it, I think it does smell kind of delicious but it has that same super sour smell like Angel, Alien, Aura...I dont know what it is it is like a signature of Mugler where you can tell youre wearing Mugler fragrance. Even though it is not bad to me it is not such smell that I can tolerate all day long, possibly becuase it lacks that softness and cozyness and that rounded mamalusciousness what I need to be me.

Shay91

I received this because one of the online sample/decant shops had a fig collection, and as I am very intrigued by Philosykos I thought this was a good collection to try. Well, in the first moments of putting it on I thought I had found my new signature! There was a light, fresh fruity scent one could call figgy and I loved it. As it dried all I could smell was salty/savory with a wispy afterthought of fruit. Not fishy though. It is unique (to me), the bottle is cool and the name is clever, but I don't think my skin and this one have the right chemistry.

tokyomadii

This was the first perfume that I fell in love with. I'm a quirky person and this fragrance makes me feel special and interesting. Womaity has made such an impact in my scent journey. I have never found another perfume that excites me like this one. It's sweet and salty. If you like to stand out, definitely give Womanity a try. And if you don't like it, good news is the bottle is art and will look gorgeous in your collection.

Efrosini

Thank you Mugler, for making perfumes that allow women to be more than cute, pretty, beautiful, pleasing. Womanhood and femininity are not the same! Being a female is endlessly much more than being feminine. I want to be beautiful, but I also want to be human: offensive, challenging, provocative, improper. All those things I shouldn't be, because I am a woman. But I can't be an Escada beach girl, I just can't, I can feel my soul dying hiding away behind a fragrance like that. There is so much more to me! Womanity is a genius name. Woman + humanity. The humanity of woman.

This is on another level. This is what perfumery is about. This is art.

MsFCAS

I'm not getting much beyond sticky fruit. For me, this would be an OK candle, especially in the fall, but I don't think I'm interested in wearing it as a personal scent.

SweetSillage98

I'm kind of surprised my boyfriend loves this on me lol . Would not buy a back up though. 8/10

AllyMage

At first spray i liked this then I got whiffs of something that reminded me of my kids' dirty hands. When you tell them to wash and they go pretend. And you foolishly do a smell check to sniff for soap and you get dirty smell. Perfume is all so personal and if I didn't have that memory in my brain im sure I would love this but I think this may be my first Mugler dislike. 💔

Zoffe

Like other recent reviewers, I don't find this challenging at all, so I don't understand the controversy. I've also only smelled a newer bottle. A bit sweet, quite refreshing, green, slightly salty and extremely long lasting (it stuck to my leather jacket for *weeks*, no kidding). I find the scent unisex, even though the name is obviously quite feminine.

sunnyviolets

At first it's a bit musty and reminds me of a middle aged woman I once knew and liked who was a heavy smoker. Moving on from that, after a few minutes, it turns into something different.

The fig is very much unlike the fig in Philosykos, fwiw, in case that may have been putting you off like it did for me. It's slightly warm and spicy for a small amount of time, until it evolves into something refreshingly tropical, lightly fruity and aquatic.

It's also sweet, *not at all* like something like Flowerbomb, though there's a hint of caramel or toffee. While it's momentarily warm, it morphs into a refreshingly cooler scent for the rest of it's eternal longevity (sprayed in the A.M. I could smell this the next morning as if I had only sprayed it 2 hours ago). Best suited for the summer.

BrumaJearl

I have the old version from Thierry Mugler just fyi and I do not understand the controversy here. This is a salty, woody, sweet & fresh scent. It's not scary or weird AT ALL. From the reviews I was expecting a challenging, possibly fishy scent but that just isn't the case. I wish I hadn't waited for it to be discontinued to buy a bottle. I've missed out! If you like Jo Malone Wood Sage and Sea Salt you would probably like this. It is very salty, a little sweet, definitely fresh and despite the fig/caviar notes it's not gourmand at all. This is very wearable though it is a beast. One, max two sprays for the office. This has taught me a lesson about people, marketing, and gullibility.

Kione

It was controversial when it was released, I do not know if it has been reformulated but I imagine it has. When I sprayed it in the shop it actually made me recoil! It was weird and strong, nothing that I would use as perfume, woody, salty, and screechy. I can't remember much to describe it better.
I sprayed it on a paper strip too and this was left on a shelf, the whiffs I got where amazing (there is a review I am quite proud of from a few years back), it was definitely an acquired taste and I settled for the Taste of Fragrance flanker which was still amazing but more wearable to my nose. Now i have several flankers, never dared to buy the original!
I must smell the newer versions because it sounds like it has been tamed a lot.

ponderbread

I agree with the review below--I have no idea why Womanity is considered controversial. I had braced myself for something more challenging and then... It's just nice? It's not super figgy, it's only ever so slightly salty and I probably wouldn't have registered that without knowing the notes, it's sweet and delicate and not too heavy. It's nice but unremarkable; maybe the caviar note was a marketing tactic to drum up interest?

Edit: So I'm 8 hours into the drydown and sniffed my wrist and at first couldn't figure out what fragrance I had swiped there because the sweetness faded and it ended with a salty, marine aroma. It reminds me of Heeley Sel Marin. So it smells like the ocean in the end, which still isn't caviar, but I can see why some people wouldn't like this, or at least wouldn't be expecting it. Womanity might start out as a pretty standard light fruity affair but it ends up smelling like some niche representation of the sea. Interesting...

Faeternal

I really struggle to understand why this perfume is remotely controversial. To me this smell is so opulent and the absolute essence of summer. A delicious fig orchard married with a salt note that is very reminiscent of the smell of sun drying clean skin after a swim in the ocean. When I smell this I imagine some affluent model in a yacht on the Mediterranean in the height of summer. It’s also a fragrance I’ve been complimented on significantly. Like most Mugler fragrances she is truly no wallflower and requires restraint when applying. Don’t let the caviar note scare you, this is honestly one of the most beautiful summer fragrances ever made in my opinion.

Linawani

This is Lady Gaga’s signature, so I had to purchase. It’s extremely unique, I’ve never smelled anything like it. It’s metallic, salty, and sweet. It settles into the skin and becomes sweeter and you get more fig. This is very unique and not a good blind buy. This a polarizing scent like all of Mugler’s perfumes. Something about it I really like because it’s so different. I wouldn’t repurchase, but it’s a fun addition to my collection.

stefneh79

Can anyone give me a dupe for this perfume?
I'm in Canada, you cant order from the Mugler website in our country, and I've tried to order from the US site but they don't ship here. They don't have it in store anymore except for perfume discount shops.

dannielah

Phew, thank you @AlienCowGirl :)

Trish Em

I can't decide if I like this or not. I have a new 80ml tester bottle (with "cap") that I've sprayed twice. Message me if interested in a purchase or swap.

AlienCowGirl

I mailed Mugler about it and it's not discontinued. It's just currently out of stock and it's an online special so you won't find it in any store.

dannielah

Is it really discontinued? Does anyone have any info, please?

hazall

I remember the first time I smelled this perfume like it was yesterday. I met it by a tester from a french magazine I bought to spend time at the airport. Just before I went to sleep, I smelled it and - oh my god! The most perfect scent I've ever smelled in my life. It was like this smell was hitting my brain directly. The smell of salt and figs in my nose enchanted me. It was a true love at first sight and it totally got me.
I'm really surprised that people are commenting the opposite of me. This perfume was truly hated, which explains why it was discontinued. It's possible that people's noses respond differently to the same scent. But if they asked me what my life smells like, I would definitely say Womanity. Maybe it's because I'm from western Turkey and grew up in fig orchards and by the sea. I do not know. I wanted to write this review to pay my respects to this fragrance that has taken over me. I think it is an exotic, striking and well-deserved perfume.

wondervalley666

FYI to all - Mugler perfumes that have turned darker/oxidized are not all bad. The secondhand bottle you've been eyeing has not necessarily been improperly stored, or anything. It very likely is perfectly fine. Mugler perfume, especially the vintage stuff, would start to turn colors while still fresh in the package. I bought a discontinued Alien flanker a few months ago that is PERFECT, smells EXACTLY RIGHT and is even stronger, richer, better, and longer lasting than the new alien flankers I own. It was still in cellophane in the box and somehow still the juice was starting to turn yellow (in a blue bottle that looked similar to a lot of Angel bottle colors). I also have gone through Angel bottles that turned green within months of opening and the last spray was just as good as the first. I never leave my scents in the sunlight or expose them to extreme temps, they are always stored away from even short amounts of sunlight exposure, and my home is always about 70-80 degrees all year long.

Don't get freaked out and hate on the juices that have turned darker just because someone using exclamation points on a comment board made you feel scared. Natural, quality ingredients oxidize a bit sometimes. Synthetic, overly processed ingredients don't. Ultimately, it's what's inside that counts <3

So, I respect this beast. Okay. I've only experienced the latest reformulation, which does seem tame compared to what I've read about the original formulation. So, maybe this one's not a beast. But I respect it none the less. I've never smelled anything else like it. Salty sweet. I don't get fishy on this iteration of the scent. But salty, yes. Not particularly figgy either. It's just unique. It does have a naughtiness to it. I had an instinctive bit of shame smelling it on my wrist at first, but...I got over it and ultimately embraced it. I LIVE for the bottle. I'm convincing myself I like it enough for a full-bottle purchase just to get ahold of that. Try it, if for no other reason than to experience it.

MaiSuwinai

Always had a love and hate relationship with scents from Mugler as I reallyyy tried BUT I just dont care for Alien ( dont kill me now!!)

However, Womanity is a whole other thing. Still strong Mugler DNA in its complexity, this scent is just so addictive with elements that kinda mess up with your head in the good way. Sweet and salty but aquatic with a mix of green figs. Its truly one of a kind!

Fig notes are typically not me, but this is so well blended with salty fresh and sweet that I cant stop sniffing my wrist every time I wear this. Think Olympia Legend minus 30% sweet and add a dash of fig, wood and 20% salty ocean vibe.
Not a blind buy imo so try it, but it could be a very nice signature scent as not I dont think many are using this fragrance.

Longevity is 10/10. dont overspray!

I always thought people were being dramatic when they would say things like “X perfume gave me a headache”
Well, this is the first perfume I've ever owned to be headache inducing. It’s very strong and very strange. Something about the synthetic materials used to recreate the smell of caviar is just so off putting. The bottle is amazing, I really appreciate Thierry Mugler taking initiative in really just making an enigmatic scent that doesn’t even fall into a fragrance family. This is not woody, it’s not fresh and it’s not sweet. It’s just strange. If anything I’d label this fragrance to be the first in its kind to create the new fragrance family of “Bodily Odor” Not to be crude, but I think they were trying to replicate the smell of womanly secretions lowkey. The smell of this is just so odd. It’s not “stinky” it just literally gives me, dare I say, vertigo. I will be returning and sticking with my tried and true, Angel.

staka01

I have a mini splash bottle and have been trying this out. I wasn't sure what to expect but this is an absolutely lovely light, faintly sweet, watery scent. I find it lasts around 6 hours minimum and radiates nicely the entire time. I wish I had a larger bottle now.

annema

This is one of my favourite perfume since I got it. By the way I own an "older" version. The liquid has turned yellow. I bought 2 bottles on ebay. I don't understand how that perfume has become polarized. To me this does really smell like a nice woody/fruity slightly salty summer perfume for women. I can smell some sort of fresh fig smell, a bit of salt (not fishy caviar no), some green freshness. I also smell some metallic notes but I usually like metallic notes in a woman perfume. It smells like a representation of a trip to mediterranean beaches, if that makes sense... I like it. I've gotten a lot of compliments while wearing this, especially from men. It's a popular scent when you wear it.

I smelled the reformulated version in a store recently and I'm not as fan. It's less woody, less salty, more fruity. It's still a nice perfume but it has lost something IMO.

lihik

I love this so so much! It's fresh, sweet, a little salty, interesting, unique yet really pretty and kind of sexy. You don't smell like anyone else when you're wearing this. It's sophisticated and adult without being heavy or too mature. You could be wearing this on vacation or to run an errand, yet you could also be wearing this to run a meeting or go clubbing. It's extremely versatile and I need a backup immediately!

Alces Alces

If you like Womanity, you may want to try Hempz body lotion in the Pink Pomelo and Himalayan Sea Salt scent. They smell very similar - not identical of course but close enough you could layer.

clown

That’s my favourite scent from my collection! I used to be only into overly sweet gourmand scents, but Womanity completely changed my preferences for good. My fav Mugler scent as well, I get complemented every single time I wear it<3

mandyads

After opening the packaging, I was quite worried... A small amount of the fragrance had leaked and was reminiscent of the smell of your hands after you've handled metal coins. At first, I thought the metal top of the container might have been damaged or rusted from the liquid (as this package was incredibly delayed)... but, indeed, it was the fragrance I was smelling. Admittingly, the smell from the atomizer and the first spray is dangerously caustic - it is hyper metallic and salty. I've read on one of these reviews quite some time ago that Womanity gave them the image of a metal bucket on the beach (can't remember if the bucket was rusted or not), but I actually agree! However, only in the opening if you spray it on the skin. Not like this fragrance needs more than a couple of spritz, but I would not spray on clothes if you are attempting to avoid the metallic opening as much as possible.

Thankfully, that metallic accord fades and leaves the saltiness behind. Within 5 minutes, the fragrance transforms into a slightly sweet and smoky salt-based fragrance. Deeper in the dry down the smokiness is so believable and I agree with some descriptions I've seen stating it's reminiscent of cigarette smoke, but only when you really put your nose near it. That sounds terrible, but I promise it is not! It's amazing that the smoke smells so "used" and realistic and it truly doesn't project to others as cigarette smoke, just smoky woods. Despite it's depth and smoky sweetness, the salt makes me crave sunshine and the ocean. That combo of sweat, salt and earthiness after an entire day out on the beach. It's a great fragrance that I think can be pulled off all year, but I think I'd only be bold enough to rock it in the summer when I have sun-kissed skin and the heat exaggerates my natural aromas.

I would also like to add that this is an incredibly unisex scent, which makes sense when you understand the house's intentions with the fragrance. The top smells leans slightly feminine (we're talking after the metallic note), but if I closed my eyes and smelled the mid or dry-down I would assume this is a men's fragrance. I can't tell if it is perfectly unisex or slightly masculine.

WARNING: This fragrance is beast mode - truly! So much so that I would start with 1 spray for the first wear. Even if you like this fragrance, it's super strong. Just one spray on my hand gives me the strongest wafts for hours and hours. This is one I would spray 3x max - elbows and back of the neck (if I'm feeling like a powerhouse or will be mostly outside).

LAYERING SUGGESTION: Angel Eau Croisière 2020 | 2x sprays Womanity, with 4-6x sprays of this fragrance. If you’re looking to just have that hint of smokey-salty Womanity peeking through.

Mojamoravia

I’m not usually a fan of gourmand fragrances, but there is something incredible about this one. It gives me strong, confident and sexy woman vibe. Very unique, I love it!

xValerijax

As the usual story goes, I tried it 10 years ago from a tester bottle in Muller and I just cringed thinking wth is this... but to be fair the juice was brownish at that point so it might have gone off. I just got a batch from 2021 and I have to say it is very nice. I am loving it! I don't smell any fig though, but fig is a bit of a enigmatic smell to me. Sometimes it smells like coconut, sometimes like nuts and I guess sometimes like strawberry? Well in any case, the punchy citrusy fig fruit cocktail is mearly the fresh counterweight to the salt! Oh the salt, how I love salty minerally smells! And its also somehow peppery which is so refreshing!

Smelling it in the air I can make a clear connection to other feminine aquatics that were or still are on the market. I concluded that Womanity combines the best part of Bvlgari Aqva Divina which is the peppery note and the best part of CK Reveal. However, while Reveal is kind of a bubblegum seawater concoction in the mid stage (which makes me feel like throwing up btw), Womanity creates a salty freshness with a nice fruity punch in the background which is not too sweet at all. <3

Regarding longevity, it lasts 6h + on the skin. As for projection, I'm not sure... Its seems good but it its not the beast I was hoping for.

EDIT: I managed to find the oldest formulation. From the first spray there is little difference, but when it settles down there is a small difference. The old formulation is a bit smoother, woodier and more peppery (might be because its older), newer batches are sweeter (but the old batch might have lost its sweetness). I can also distinguish the fig notes a bit. Also, the old version is harder to compare to CK Reveal, the notes of which I can detect in the newer formulation at the drydown. And it projects a little bit more than the new version. One spray on my arm and I can smell it around me. Its lovely.

In conclusion, the differences are very subtle. So I would recommend just getting the new version.

Ohh my Goshhh..What a Masterpiece Scent of a True Artist! A potent, gorgeous, figgy foggy aquatic lush garden juice ! So unique, unforgettable and addictive... THIS is easily my favorite Mugler's creation! Thank you, and RIP, Master!

Jacklyn's Perfumery

One of my tops of all time Womanity is the epitome of being unapologetically Mugler. Very misunderstood, but I love her to bits. This world would be lost without her. My wish is that she would never be discontinued and that the world could fully understand and love her just as I do. I own every version of Womanity because regardless of how similar they are I personally wanted to experience each version of her at least once. I’ve never even done that with Angel or Alien.

There is no fig fragrance just like her. And you don’t even need to spray allot just one spray even at the most two is enough she’s that potent, but you must love aquatics, figs, greens & woods. I love the smell of the beach so I loved this fragrance instantly. It’s like sweet berries like strawberries and figs meet at a green tropical beach and the salty sea breeze is passing by. This fragrance has extreme contrasts but I adore it so much. A creative work & masterpiece I’m proud to say that’s Mugler.

xoxoMyke

RIP Mugler.

Womanity is my favorite fragrance of all time. And while you may have been hands off, this masterpiece would only be released under your legacy.

MAGIX

I bought this fragrance strictly for the bottle. No lie! 😎I rarely wear it. Do I like it? Yes I do, but I like the idea of it more than the scent. This is a strange, odd actually, but alluring scent somehow. I would have bought all the bottle sizes just to line them up on my vanity, but common sense prevailed, and I stopped myself.

Rcates78

If you do anything today, be sure to scroll down and read Teddyboy's review - not to figure out if Womanity is a fragrance you might want to try, and certainly not to read another interpretation of it's scent structure or notes, but to understand why Mugler perfumes are SUCH a conundrum and so masterful, IMHO. His review is an example of the visceral and vivid reactions, imagery, and memories (and their inherent dichotomy of light and dark) tied to scent for those who find themselves obsessed with fragrance on a soul-damning level, and the skill with which Mugler creations evoke those things on the regular for folks. Yowza.....well-worth the read.

As for me, I am a longtime Mugler fan not for the everyday wearability of the fragrances, but because I find each one to be unique, by way of scent profile, from anything else out there, including other frags within the Mugler line. Alien is very different from Aura, is very different from Angel, and from Womanity, etc., and they are ALL so different from anything any other house is putting out. Many fragrance houses have a "DNA" (I am thinking of Guerlain and Chanel) that anchors their creations like main branches on a tree. Mugler's creations are like celestial bodies in the universe. Each has it's own radiation signature, structure, and dynamics, and bursts forth from it's own set of circumstances into the void...utterly alone for miles and miles and often terrifying. Once you experience it and come to appreciate it (and collect several bottles of it), it can tend to make the rest of your collection seem rather banal. Lucky for other perfume houses, one doesn't always want to stand out in the crowd or be sent on some acid trip down memory lane every hour of the day. As for Womanity, it's a favorite of mine. I smell unripe pineapple and dehydrated fig on first spray, then salt, cold steel, green leaves, and sparkling minerals. Then caviar, seaweed, and wet wood. I have no idea why folks think this one is sickly sweet, but I suppose everyone's nose is different. The opening could be classified as sweet, but the salty caviar (which as others have said is NOT "fishy") note that quickly weaves itself in drowns that sweetness deep in a nearby brackish swamp and twists it into something that's entirely in it's own category (and just one of the many reasons I love it so!). I don't get the longevity with Womanity that I do with Alien or Angel, but I don't even care. And the bottle is to die for. The metal art around the top and shoulders of the glass is exquisite. Folks can say what they want about Mugler fragrances but love or hate, there's no denying the art and skill that goes into their compositions.

melusina1982

There is a pungent albeit lovely smell of fig at the opening. It dries down to the perfect salty, sunkissed skin with wisps of the aforementioned fig.
Not controversial at all in my opinion although I think it is not a safe blind buy.

This is my second attempt at a review of Womanity. Since my first encounter a few weeks back it went from a total love to a strong dislike and I was about to sell it on when I realized how hooked I already was. The Godfather spell of the Mugler scents, you think you're out and they pull you right back in.

With Womanity it's the contrasts that make it so difficult to wear and just as difficult to walk away. It is very salty and almost sickeningly sweet at the same time. There is a strong association to nature, you can almost taste the figs and the salty sea, but then there is something very artificial and metallic about it. Warm and cold. Soft and hard. It invites you in and pushes you away at the same time. If those are supposed to be the two sides of being a modern woman then Womanity does a brilliant job capturing just that.

I think Womanity is destined to stay in my perfume collection forever. I will probably never wear it 'properly', i.e. use a full spray from the bottle and then leave the house. I can't imagine a setting or occasion where it wouldn't be too loud, too strange and too much of a statement. But I will open the bottle every now and then (probably on the weekend when I have nowhere to be or on a day when I'm working from home), dab the tiniest drop of Womanity on my wrist and marvel at how wonderfully impossible it is.

underneath

Beware of darker bottles, the liquid in womanity is a lighter color. Darker bottles have been stored badly!

Teddyboy

When I was a young boy, Both my parents were working and it just so happened that my dad’s eldest and only sister, a spinster whom, as far as my father knew, never dated and who had the task of living in the family home with their mother, had just retired from a life of teaching primary school children. She took a shine to me and was my main caretaker throughout my early life. She had been brought up a good Christian lady in a small sect in which its female adherents all had to don conservatively tailored twinsets and keep their long hair in buns, no matter their age - my father often mocked the younger members for being indiscernible in appearance to the matronly seniors, and I had once or twice attended their services with my aunt, the only men allowed in attendance were the itinerant pastors because women in their church were not allowed to preach: I can only say those services, held in a small residence owned by the collective members to house the visiting pastors, were not particularly riveting to a small boy.

My aunt in my youth was the epitome of rectitude and patience - she was a welcome counterpoint to the volatile temperament of my father and the worldly go-gettingness of my mother. As a child, I felt like such a personality could only be moulded by a spinster, almost a Bride of Christ, who had dedicated her life on one hand, to the Christian God who barred and protected her from worldliness, and on the other, to a career as stable and as insular as teaching children - unlike my parents who seemed to be constantly steeped in politics, the vicissitudes of the economy and its shifting favours and demands. My aunt seemed to be a model of a life of spiritual surety, if a tad archaic.

She unfailingly picked me up from school everyday when I did the morning session and my dad was still at work, in order that I might not mingle with the rowdy neighbourhood boys from whom I night learn the wrong things, and I had lunch at my grandma’s home most days, in a quiet, respectable residential neighbourhood of detached houses (I live in Singapore where land is scarce, so owning landed property, particularly bungalow housing is an almost certain sign of being at least comfortable). I spent my uneventful days drawing, sitting on the swing in the garden, occasionally rifling through her cabinet to find her old school books and perfumes (Mitsouko and Anais Anais).

I would often shower at her place and change into home clothes, and on one occasion, having gotten out of the bathroom and closed the room door to change, I heard a clattering from the house behind ours, the sound of metal buckets being shifted over rough concrete. Visible through the rear bedroom window was the back patio of the neighbouring house, which was on a lower plane to ours as we were on a slope. It was a house that always scared me as a child because it was an anomaly in the neighbourhood - unkempt in the front, one would have thought it had been uninhabited for some time, its zinc awnings rusted, gate lacking a mailbox or house number. The view into the back patio from my aunt’s rear bedroom was always obscured by net curtains, and from what I knew of it it was even more a jumbled mess than the front, a veritable junkyard of useless things and most strangely, metal buckets that were always put out to collect rainwater. I asked my aunt if those buckets wouldn’t breed mosquitoes and she said laconically, ‘no’ and said no more, so clearly someone lived there. I was soon to find out who.

A woman was shifting one of those buckets. She looked the same age as my aunt, who was sixty at the time. If anything, with her Long hair and stocky, heavy hipped frame, they looked strikingly alike. She was stark naked, splashing herself with tremendous vigour from those buckets, dipping her unkempt hair into the bucket and agitating it as if she were rinsing a mop while muttering to herself. Standing there in my aunt’s rear bedroom, naked from my own shower, shyly peeking through the day curtain upon this private moment, I felt a certain kinship with her, and in her resemblance to my own familiar, beloved aunt, a sense of epiphany at the parallels of human life and how one character could very much veer and merge with another under different circumstances. Here was a woman, primal, unheeding of the Norms of polite society, somehow inhabiting a house alone whose address or value she seemed to disregard entirely, taking her ablutions straight from the heavens rather than from government-sanctioned sources. At her age, she would likely have experienced a youth in which such outdoor baths were commonplace, except that in the intervening years, Modernity had marched steadily on in our country and we had learned, like Adam and Eve, to be ashamed of our animal nakedness. If indeed she lived alone, she must leave occasionally for food, and daily essentials, she would be forced to clothe herself, to step into a shop, to interact with society at large in some form, and yet watching her stooping there splashing herself from a bucket, with no sense of shame of what the middle-class neighbours would think, it both terrified and transfixed me. It made me realise all the things my aunt, already largely unadorned with the typical fripperies of contemporary womanhood, still somehow had to put on to make herself presentable to the wider world - as Christopher Isherwood observes in A Single Man, ‘it’ has to become ‘Jane’ Everyday, in order that the world will recognise and accept it for what it is: Jane the retired schoolteacher, Jane the good Christian spinster, Jane the Singaporean, the sister, the aunt... a light dusting of face powder, a neatly combed and tied up bun, a pressed skirt falling below the knees, perfume that smells of flowers and mature womanhood...

I write all this because, when I first smelled Womanity, that stark naked image of the woman who looked like my aunt Jane but wasn’t somehow just materialised. It is a perfume that is instinctually female, and yet, isn’t feminine in the least. Other perfumes seek to represent female types - the coquette, the fresh young girl, the grand dame, through a palettte as diverse and distinctively coded as that of makeup colours. Womanity makes me think of Gauguin’s Tahitian nudes, a Fauvist world away from French society - not that French society represented the prim or the proper, it clearly never did; it was however a society of disguises and duplicities, of things not being what they seemed, which I guess is the great art of Perfumery too, molecules mimicking nature or emotions, creating allusions. Tahiti represented woman sans facade, even in the staring face of a lost Eden. Gauguin speaks of ‘their searching, animal odour, their tropical savours’ that he wanted so much to trap eternally in paint. Womanity, in its nameless, saline, tangy viscosity that is neither flower nor fruit, is a scent that traps that image for me. Do I like it? Not particularly, I may be too into the role of perfume as seductress and performer to like something so naked. Does it fascinate? That it does.

_Eva_oh_Eva_

I know the pyramid says something different but the more Iam into the perfume world the more I think pyramids mostly are made to market the product .

I love Womanity
But I can smell there :
- some sort of sweet cake filling like marzipan but it's not marzipan 100%
Something almondy
Tiny bit of walnut
And icing crusty mass ( sugar plus water)
-peach and tiny bit of raspberry
- freshness from melon and fig leaves
- something that is little bit peppery and salty but it's not either
- something metallic

smells like sushi & coochie, in a good way tho

I was reading and watching so many reviews of this perfume because when I first saw the bottle, I was obsessed with it. The thought of figs in it was also very intriguing to me and I desperately wanted to smell it since some reviews are so controversial and they differ from each-other so much!
I was in the search for a signature scent and I found that this could be the one.
Finally I blind-bought it. At first, I was very surprised about everyone that was saying how this smells like fish - there is absolutely NOTHING fishy about it, you shouldn't be scared of that. But, it does smell kinda metallic-y (if you really think about it) and when people say that this is a savoury fragrance - they are absolutely right. It's very very salty smelling.

The first whiff I got was - fruity, slightly sweet, but very salty. I didn't mind it at all at first. I wasn't falling in love with it, but I also didn't hate it. Sprayed it on my wrist and as the day went by I started getting nauseous, I started hating the occasional smell of it when I moved my arms around (btw, yes it's strong). It got to the point where I went and scrubbed it off. I started wondering if maybe it just doesn't work with my skin, but when I tried smelling it from the bottle - yeah, nope, this does not smell good to me. But I can definitely see why some people do like it. It is a very unique perfume and guaranteed there aren't gonna be many people smelling like you if you'll wear it!

I ended up selling it.

Like all my Mugler perfumes, I have to write a review. They are like that. They illicit a response, good or bad. To me, it's a typical Mugler, I hate it at first, but as time goes on, I obsess about it. They are so addictive. The name is a misnomer, to my nose the woodiness (must be fig tree) is masculine and something I associate with cologne. I do not wear men's cologne but something about Womanity is so intoxicating, I will make an exception. I just happened to have a sample of Samsara and I layered the two and the combination was magical, like a spicy, enchanted forest by the sea. It's refreshingly bitter, not sweet, just those two things alone makes Womanity a like. This could be an interesting romance. P.S. I don't know if I would wear this in public, it's not "pleasant". It may be an aphrodisiac, but not a crowd-pleaser.

One the worst smelling perfumes sorry ….

Scandaleuse

Smells exactly like a greek island when it's hot in the summer. Fig trees and the sea.

gotta be the nastiest thing i done ever put my nose into

bel.gravia

Whoaaa! INCREDIBLE!
At first spray I was doubtful.... fig and then more fig. But then! Marine notes, unique twist which must be caviar started emerging. Woody, sweet, savoury. Absolutely fantastic! It smells to me the way popping candies feel in the mouth. A very nonsense description I know. But it just has this - never ever before found in a perfume - freshness without being a typical freshie. Oh so unique oh so beautiful. One of the best blind buys ever! But then Mugler is quite safe for me..... I love Angel, Alien, Aura...

Katerrina

I hate every Mugler perfume I have tried,so I had no high hopes for this one. Rightfully so, as it is nauseating and disgusting. I scrubbed my skin with soap several minutes to get this off. So, I guess longevity is good.

mandalynnwin

So bad. This was a scrubber for me (and I rarely wash off perfumes before they fade). Smells like cheap air freshener sprayed in the dirty old trailer of a chain smoker thinking it will cover the smell of decades of cigarette smoke but it only adds to the stench. Against my better judgement I tried it a second time to be sure I was giving it a fair chance, and again, the stench was so gross I had to wash it off. Threw away the sample before it was even finished (which I also rarely do). I actually feel kind of insulted that this aberration is named “Womanity”.

fangpili

As a person who owns, and appreciates, several Mugler perfumes, this one was a big miss for me. I found it quite repugnant. There is a very over-ripe, rotting peach/fig sickeningly sweet odour that permeates and detracts from the beautiful, fresh mediterranean figs you get in other perfumes such as Korres. It certainly lasts, but in this case that is not so great. In the morning, the scent is bearable. My favourite Mugler is the unique, divisive but addicting Aura, followed by Alien and I can appreciate Angel as it beds in. This thick, cloying, sweet and clinging ''dirty'' scent doesn't work on me.

novaklara98

I'm a Mediterranean child. I'll smell a fig on a summers day from miles away, and it's absolutely one of my favorite scents in this universe. I've been looking for a realistic fig perfume for a long time now. And God, I hoped this would be it. Considering the notes, it should've been. It's been hard to find, as many perfumeries don't seem to have it anymore. I finally tried it out on my skin, and lord, what a disappointment. Thank God I didn't go for a blind buy. The silage is surely there, but it's very synthetic and not even close to my beloved scent. Maybe I've spent too many days and nights under fig trees to ever be satisfied. And I'll stick to that for now. Shame.

UnearthlyApothecary

I don’t know why it’s taken me so long to try this one but I guess it’s probably because I have had a lifelong dislike of aquatic scents and Calone. Thankfully, there was absolutely nothing to fear. This does not in the slightest smell like the tacky calone aquatics of the 90s at all. What Womanity reminds me of most is a salty/aquatic Amber like Alkemia’s Ghost Fire but with a fruity vibe from the fig. Womanity is sweet, salty, fruity, a bit green and has an amazing presence. Signature worthy, complex and unique. I
bought an older bottle from my best friend. It’s tragic to hear that the Mugler brand has suffered terrible reformulations as a result of the big sell- out

Salwa Hazem

Womanity is a confident brilliant scent that takes time to understand, I blind bought it a while back, and my 1st impression was you aren't as obnoxious as people make you, but super powerful and totally overwhelmed me for the 1st couple of times.

Side by side you can smell saltiness and green notes, the combination has a masculine identity, and in the heart there is a clear pungent sticky fig jam that dominates when you are smelling it close to the skin. But when it hits the air this is where the magic happens, it gets extremely well blended, the saltiness balances the sweetness of figs, and reflects the strength of femininity embracing masculinity. The scent is a piece of art just like how the bottle looks.

The scent fills rooms and houses!!! it's massive and eternal, and thankfully with all that loudness it has been a huge compliment getter for me.

There is no fishy smell, maybe at the early stages a little bit of sweaty traces, but people will never confuse it with sweat. And I get why people are refering to female secretions, it's done in a brilliant clever way that gives it a sensual undertone but definitely not disgusting nor repulsive.

plasticblue

Wow, this is original and intriguing, both the fragrance and the bottle. Like most Mugler fragrances, it is addicting and polarizing. I had a love-hate relationship with this fragrance the first few days.

So what I get from trying this for a few days, is that this scent smells very differently from the bottle, on clothes and on the skin:
-Smelling form the bottle - very sharp green notes - wet dirt after rain, a plant cut open, marine, metallic, fruity, slightly sweet. I love it. Similar smell on clothes.
-Smelling on skin - I just get this funky salty green celery smell (probably fig tree or leaves), which dominates so much, that I can't smell anything else for a few hours, after that it smells better, blends with the skin smell, becomes soft, slightly floral, but still kinda weird... Maybe it's that skin chemistry thing people have mentioned.

Now to address the sweat, fish and vagina smell comments:
Fish - absolutely zero fish smell here, people probably mistake that marine/metallic/mineral slightly bloody note.
Sweat - on the skin I can smell a little sweaty note. It is like sweat from your fingers, savory and sweet, but does not stink. Like sweaty fingers holding a fig. On clothes zero sweat smell.
Vagina - on clothes absolutely zero vagina smell. On skin - maybe, if you really try hard to imagine it, but it would still be an almost oddorless, just from the shower type of smell.

So my verdict is love, but only on clothes. I think it fits all seasons, but best for spring/summer, sea.
Longevity - 5/5
Blind buy: not safe

Phemonoe

The opening is... difficult. It cycles through some strange and honestly repulsive notes that are jarring and made me think of sweaty undergarments, and not the sexy kind. But after fifteen minutes it settles into a really interesting blend of sea air, greenery, and a tiny hint of vanilla and flowers, all bolstered by a buttery note underneath. I don't find it very sweet (especially compared to Pour Elles) and am looking forward to retesting it to see how I feel about it.

Tested on: wrist
Reps: once
Test duration: one hour

Eribert

This is so sexy! Usually I don't like sultry fragrances too much, but with Womanity Mugler did something very right.

From the first whiff, you get an intense floral note - the pyramid says nothing about florals in there so I guess that either they did not metion them or it is the very sweet fig that I am mistaking for white blossoms.

The second note that is equally prominent from the first spray is a unique salty-mineralic component that mingles gracefully with the flowers/fig and that is responsible for elevating the whole experience to a special level.

As time goes by, the almost pungent sweetness from the beginning subsides and becomes more green and woody until everything softens and fades out from approximately 8 hours after application.

I love Womanity. Compared to Diptyque's Philosykos, where the fig is clean and soapy and almost borderlines white peach from time to time, with Mugler's creation you get an overripe, heavy fig that is changed not only for the better but for the great by breaking it up with woody greenness. Also, while Philosykos is definitely a regal office choice, Womanity is quite the opposite.

With it you get a highly sensual fragrance that - despite its name - knows no borders of age and/or gender. If you feel it, wear it. And even if you don't, you might want it anyways, because it has so much power.

All this makes Womanity a great addition to any collection. I will definitely get myself a bottle and recommend everyone who even feels slightly intrigued by the concept or the flacon or any other aspect of this fragrance a try. This is a very interesting fragrance.

TL;DR: Salty fig on woody greens, unusual and sexy

PerfumeObsessive

It is shocking in the Mugler realm of fragrances that something this faint exists. I was expecting a fig beast, but it disappeared within 5 minutes. Sunscreen / lotion at best. It could be one of their final batches. I do remember my grandmother having the original and it was nothing like this.

Eleroy

@Raquel73 I made a topic on fragrantica forum describing my experience after a couple of days of testing and comparing with previous version. Sorry, I can't provide a link because fragrantica blocks any attempts to post anything with links here, but it's called "Received a L'Oréal version of Womanity". TL;DR: I find it weaker, more mainstream and to me it seems that caviar got replaced with grapefruit and clean musk, fig with strawberry and the new wood is dusty and boring.

CateCate

@Raquel73
I’m waiting for the order i placed to arrive, i don’t know what version I bought but i hope is the old one…
However i can find it pretty easily here in Europe and prices are still good.. hope L’Oreal didn’t ruin it.. if you guys have any news please let us know! 🙏

Starlight_moon

Interesting fragrance, I was curious to try it especially after reading the raving reviews and learning that it has been discontinued. It does smell exactly like a very ripe fig (I would know, there are two fig trees in my backyard :)
It's sweet, strong and long-lasting, which is very common with pretty much all Mugler fragrances, so a little goes a long way when applying.
But I don't smell any woody notes. It's quite heavy in its sweetness.
I like it but I don't love it but I can appreciate its uniqueness.

cz963214

This is, hands down, the most amazingly unique fragrance I have ever smelled. This works so well with my chemistry. My most complimented perfume of all time, and the best from Mugler to me. I also love Angel and Alien, but THIS. That sweet-metallic-salty combo only a genius could have created. Never a perfume has impressed me so much as this one. There’s this thing with Mugler perfumes. Don’t judge them quickly, try them several times...you might fall in love. Muglers are in my opinion the closest things to pure art in mainstream perfumery. Not a sole niche perfume I ever tried ever came close to this. If I were to keep one perfume forever, this is it. Also, persistence and sillage are still out of this world, even for the L’Oreal version.

Raquel73

@Eleroi What do you notice different? I the bottle that I bought smells like always. It may be older, I'll have to check the year.

Eleroy

@Raquel73 I am in the country where it's widely available and I just received a bottle with "Mugler Azzaro Beauté" stamped on it, so it seems like L'Oréal is already producing it. However, while I am still testing it, the first whiffs smelled like reformulation to me.

Raquel73

@CateCate I've had trouble finding large bottles, they were already out of stock online. Maybe in other countries there is no problem. Or are they thinking about reformulating it ... we'll see Loreal's plans.....

adelaidesandrina

Wow.. surprisingly i love this one. Reminds me a lot of Philosykos & Olympea! It’s very figgy and salty. It does smell like the “dirtier” side of the beach 😂 (got this reference from the scented on youtube). Such a delicious fragrance.. honestly it smells like the creamiest fig ice cream!!

bug.juice.184

I was never obsessed with Womanity, but it serves me great for certain days and moods. Womanity is anyway in a range of art in perfumery. The scent can be described like this - after having a long swim in a sea, your body is warmed up but airy at the same time, you feel divine and transformed, you get out of sea feeling vibrant and fresh, gliding, smelling sea foam, sand, rocks, feeling waves and currents, and than you see a fig trees that are full of fruits, take a lazy breath, and start to eat from a trees. Air is sweet and a bit sulty, and you remember that you are a daughter of the Nereids, sea nymphs. You have no desire to be married to a mortal. Often I thought Womanity should be called Nereids.

Edemay

Layer womanity with burberry her and thank me later

Raquel73

@CateCate I just ordered a large bottle. This is discontinued and will be hard to find very soon.

CateCate

I found some people saying Womanity is been discontinued, to me this would be a shot to my heart as i love this perfume: a beautiful sweet / savory bomb that takes me to amazing white beaches every time i wear it and that lasts all day long . I also think that, regardless you like it or not, if you are a kind of collector as i am, you absolutely have to have it.
That said: anybody knows about discontinuation?

aromadom

Womanity is strong and impactful, yet it also has an airiness to it—like a salty sea breeze paired with a juicy fig! I find this perfume very comforting, actually. It is strange and delightful.

GirlOnFire

I won’t go into the failure of the marketing team and the gimmickiness and what not of Womanity, as that is easily documented and found, but I will tell you that I bloody love this perfume. It’s a fruity aquatic: slightly salted figs and caviar. I even sprayed this at 8pm last night and it’s 7am now and still very much present. It is not fishy, but smells like a mermaid. Someone who has been swimming in the sea. I think there are way more polarising scents out there and but I can understand why this would be so. However, I don’t view this one as polarising. I think Womanity is a lot easier to enjoy than they say, but why I don’t know. I think people overthink this one. It’s essentially three notes. Just enjoy it. Sit back and let it develop. It’s unique. It’s fun. It’s conceptual. Don’t force it to be something it’s not. Enjoy!

HawaiiMoon88

I really liked this perfume when I got it, for me it is 100% a winter perfume. Sweet, powdery and warm. I suppose now I read it it is quite nutty and woody but I mainly identify it as sweet and powdery. It is an odd scent, I haven't bought it since but would definitely get it again one day.

It reminds me of snow and cosy comfy soft clothes, and sugary pastries...

LavenderMilk

What I smell can be described as "slightly sweet synthetic sea", almost no fig. I have a small tester, so wore it several times. Very disoppointed. It's not the worst, it just promises much and gives an average result.

CaliBlonde

Really shines in the summer! Great beachy scent.
This is “swimming in the ocean all day” beachy, not “slathered in tanning oil” beachy.
Basically smells like salty seawater + sweet figs. Like if you took a small cup of ocean water and blended it with Philosykos. Salty, airy, juicy/fruity, green, & woody. I don’t smell anything fishy.

katariina9

Its not caviar of course, wrote about it in my review further below ;). Calone smells like aquatic, marine breezy, its used in such scents, a bit ozonic, frequent touch added to ozonic summer scents, especially men's.. not everyone likes it though. There is no fish or caviar smell in Womanity. not really.

_I.V_

@emperador
Are you referring to my review below or something? 800 euros for 500 grams! Oh dear! Let me make it clear: DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT throw it away!! Babes, take that caviar back to the store, to the people who sold it to you, and throw it in their fng faces!😃 🐠 🐟

I would like to take this opportunity to say that I love Womanity! I'm not sure what calone chemical smells like 😉😃 But considering all these reviews, one might assume it smells like the V-word and "cunnilingus"? (I'm not a perv, I swear, I'm just quoting the reviewers below) LOL.

Caviar is a fantasy note, so, of course, it is not gonna smell like straight up caviar... But I'm living for that surfing fantasy!!
This perfume has... like... the best reviews!! LMAO 😃

fragrantkilljoy

I tried this simply because I had to see for myself if all those really critical reviews were right that it's "too salty, fishy" etc.

To be honest I was a bit hesitant to spray it on my skin but I am sooo glad I did!

This smells divine!

I don't get any of the fishyness, it has a much more woody base than I expected but it does have a bit of a "sprizz", maybe that's why some people call it salty? It's warm yet really fresh at the same time, which is kinda weird, as it develops on my skin it progresses into a more and more sweeter, fruity and really comforting scent.
It kind of makes me think of mildly hot summer evenings spent somewhere in the countryside and makes me extremely nostalgic in a good way.

This is really hard to describe all in all because I feel as if there are so many layers to it.

All in all I think this is one of the most wholesome, if that makes sense, scents I've ever smelled.

I feel that it is feminine but with an edge and even though it is a complicated scent it is very wearable during both day and night. I'd even call it office friendly; as long as one doesn't over spray it (as I did by accident) because gosh that frag is potent!

emperador

I think it was a bad advertising decision on the part of Mugler to imply that Womanity has caviar. I love caviar, and know the taste and smell very well. Womanity does not smell in anyway like caviar or anything fishy. if you buy caviar at 800 euros for 500 grams, and it smells fishy, throw it away, ugh!. Caviar is not supposed to smell fishy, maybe salty. What Womanity smells like is Calone (like Aqua di Gio or maybe Euphoria Clavin Klein), and fig leaves (a stronger version of crushed fig leaf in Philosykos Diptyque or Dior Homme Dune) and not the flower or fruit (after the Calone has evaporated it smells like you have been weeding the garden). The combination of Calone and fig leaf were fairly new and radical when Womanity was first brought out, so Mugler was avant-garde when he did this, but with bad branding and advertising. This is a wonderful fragrance for both men (think Aqua di Gio and Homme Dune) and women (Euphoria and Philosykos Diptyque). Also it lasts and lasts. I think people approach this fragrance with a misconception, caviar (fishy) and the word "Woman"ity, or less inferred, what some may believe a part of a body that they think smells fishy. I am a man, and I like this fragrance because I like the smell of fig leaves, or green weedy grass after I have worked in the garden.

Maddison21

Caviar, fig tree and fig! Nobody believes that I have such a perfume! My love, where can I buy these again? Or less expensive but with the same smell

P-Nay

Womanity: Fruity aquatic is how I would describe this fragrance. Bizarre, kind of salty and maybe because of the caviar in addition to the fig. Nonetheless, I truly love, enjoy and appreciate it. Quite unisex, very controversial but in the best way possible because it's so different. I love fig heavy scents but never owned one with caviar added, as a note. A Long-lasting, powerful and unique scent! This does not smell like any fragrance I own! It's most definitely a keeper for me! Love and respect Mr. Muglers nose forward, rarely mass appealing scents!

Kathleen13

I sampled this purely out of curiosity due to its reputation for being polarizing and controversial. One early review here said "very few people will find this fragrance just OK". Well, I'm one of the very few. It's OK. Not offensive or weird-smelling, but not a scent that grabs me and takes me on a journey, either. I don't perceive the caviar note at all. I don't perceive saltiness at all. The opening was light, fresh, & sweet- one of the most distinctly fruity openings in any fruity fragrance I've tried so far, in fact. It may have been figs I was smelling in the beginning, but soon some of the sweetness dissipated and the scent became more like melon (cantaloupe?) to me, and that didn't change from that point on. Then I got a sharp scent, which I'm guessing is the "salty" accord so many people mention getting from this, but to me it honestly smelled more like vodka. So there was a short phase where this fragrance was very reminiscent of a cocktail with melon liqueur and vodka, with a bit of a green scent blended in. Not bad, but not something I'd wear- not that I'm averse to cocktail fragrances, but I like sweeter scents than what this seems to be becoming. If the sweetness of the opening had persisted, I'd say this is a feminine fragrance, but now I'm thinking it would work as unisex- except for the name and the entire concept of the perfume, of course. I do get a cool aquatic vibe where I expected saltiness or *possibly* even fishiness, based on other reviews, but I don't get the "savory" quality that Womanity is supposed to have. After a while the "melon-tini" vibe faded away and it just smelled mildly fruity-sweet again, and I was left wondering why so many people have had such extreme reactions to this fragrance. I understand it seems to be a composition highly dependent upon the wearer's own chemistry (and I should admit I didn't test it on my skin, in case I hated it & couldn't get it off), but personally I think much of the controversy comes from the name and concept of the perfume taken together with the notes of fig and caviar. A perfume called "Womanity" that's advertised as celebrating women just should *not* contain notes that people will preconceive as being fishy-smelling. It just should not. Whether it actually smells fishy or not is pretty far beside the point. The idea is already in people's minds, and I think it simply had to be a deliberate provocation. Artists will be artists, but I can certainly understand why people might be turned off or offended before they even smell the perfume. And then there's the whole Judeo-Christian mythological association of figs and fig leaves with the Fall of Man (due to the "sin" of Eve). It's a very weird melange of associations to put in your customers' heads, if you ask me, and I find it kind of questionable, but I'm someone who doesn't really know anything about Thierry Mugler as a person. I'd be interested to hear his own explanation of how he arrived at all of this. For that matter, the metal chains on the bottle that are supposed to represent "the bonds between women" could also be seen as the oppressive chains of the patriarchy if you don't know what they're "supposed" to mean. All in all, this fragrance strikes me as a bit gimmicky and relying heavily on concept to sell it, because the scent itself seems relatively unremarkable.

besitoscococherry96

loveee itttttttttttttttttttt thats all i can say

cecil1

Womanity, I don’t know how to begin to describe this perfume, but I can certainly say that this has long been one of my most favourites. It IS a perfume that shifts a lot on different people, so you have to try it first, but on me it opens with a lovely burst of sweet fruitiness that is underpinned by a touch of green. As it mellows, a little saltiness comes through and then the woody vibe comes to tone the scent down. Sillage is soft, and longevity a little poor: 6 hours on me, 2 to 3 more as a skin scent - sniff close up on your wrist! Even better, Womanity, though best in summer, can even stand up to being worn anytime, anywhere, and is soft enough to never cause offense to the ”less perfume inclined”.
Sadly, though, Womanity has given me a sad lesson on the fleeting nature of fragrance. When this perfume was discontinued, and available only online, I began to stockpile it over the last few years. I always store (hoard) my perfumes in their original boxes, in the darkest coolest places I can find. Even so, my older Womaniy perfumes have all oxidised, the oldest ones having turned yellow and darker, the newer ones changing a little less. The older the are, the more the scent has lost a little of the sweet fruitiness of the top note, and the green note becomes much more prominent. It is still lovely, but not as enchanting as the original. It is very sad to me, as I know and love the original so well, All I can say is if you like this perfume, buy it fresh, and use it fresh. Pray that Mugler doesn’t change the formula if you can find it online, and enjoy it while you can! P.S. I am now busy inspecting the changes in all my hoard, and I have had other disapointments, so be wary!

nx

I remember when I was eighteen (at the start of my fragrance journey) and I was in a department store with friends, trying out some fragrances. I saw Womanity on the way out all alone on a shelf under the (then) Thierry Mugler sign, and I remembered really enjoying my aunt wearing Angel when I was a kid. The bottle had a yellowish liquid in it, which I have come to realise meant in this case it was absolutely off, and I sprayed it on my wrist.

INSTANT REGRET.

It was all I could smell - this weird salty, sweaty metallic bomb that I could NOT scrub off fast enough. My friend could still smell it in his car for a week. Obviously once I was home I searched it up and realised it was supposed to be a PINK liquid, but the scent was enough to churn my stomach.
Eight years pass and I still think about my tragic experience with Womanity. I've come to love fig and marine scents over time and have always wondered what I missed out on, so upon finding out it was discontinued I bit the bullet and ordered a bottle.

OH GOD.

I actually love it. I was so scared I was going to smell like fish or rust or "lady parts", but good lord it's perfect on my chemistry. First blast was a very ripe juicy fig, almost melon-like but with zero - I mean ZERO - sweetness. People aren't lying when they say this gal is savoury. After a few hours this scent is very much still powerful after only two sprays, and the salty/woody vibes have really come through. It's like eating figs at the beach in the middle of Australian summer! I truly love this. It's winter here so I can't wait to add warm sunshine to the mix, which I can imagine is where this beauty really shines. I agree with the reviews about spraying on warm skin - I sprayed once on the wrist and once on my neck immediately after a hot shower, and I'm wearing a sweater indoors.
The takeaway from this is that Womanity is complex, unique and utterly delicious on the right skin. Controversiality is what really won me over into buying a bottle and I'd recommend you do the same if you are like myself, always left to wonder what it would really smell like.

hannahlauren

Okay.... I was low-key terrified, yet also intrigued about Womanity based on the reviews. I blind-bought it to complete my collection of Mugler fragrances, because I'm obsessed with this house lol.

To me, this is straight fig! Not crazy sex juices or vagina (thank the lord), just fig. I have Angel Eau Croisiere 2020, and it's very similar to this.

Although I like Womanity better because it's just fig, no sweet/tropical vibes that were a bit cloying to me with Eau Crosiere.

This is a sweet and salty fig perfume, with maybe a very slight bitter/fresh note from the fig leaf/tree aspect.

All in all, a very wearable fragrance, nice and sexy but not crazy like I was expecting!

glitterizer

This absolutely does not smell "fishy", it seems like one person said that and then everyone ran with it. To me the overall impression is a balanced mix of sweet fig + a metallic, very salty "skin" scent + something bitter like... cigarette ashes? I'm not sure what creates that unpleasantness, but it's prominent and comes and goes in waves. I think it might be the caviar.

Despite not being a scent that fits my taste, I'd instantly think very highly of the taste of whoever was wearing this. It’s artistic and unique.

dienle13

Straight out of the bottle: cunnilingus. There, I said it. Sticky sweet and salty and warm and fresh fruity and human and dark and heady and sexy and entirely unapologetic.

Then there comes a lovely, well-balanced green in the middle, followed by a woody-nutty-animalic drydown.

Unique. Surprising. Deliciously dirty.

Have I mentioned that I adore this?

bloodyheartofparadise

pay no mind to anybody that describes this perfume as smelling like fish or metal or rust like i keep seeing, it doesn't smell like either of those things. i have however seen it compared to the scent of 'lady parts' which in a weird, abstract way i can almost understand... definitely clean, healthy lady parts though or skin in general. this fragrance has a warm, very salty skin like scent to it, very organic. savoury might be a good word to use, the fig is prominent but it isn't sweet. i wear this perfume when i want to be reminded of my first boyfriend, the summer we shared together and the scent of his warm sun kissed skin fresh out of the ocean. i love it dearly. i can understand why people think this perfume is weird, it sounds like it shouldn't work at all but it does, magnificently! it's truly beautiful. i'm always complemented on it with some people saying it smells fresh and juicy like melons which i don't pick up on myself but none the less people seem to love it! silage and longevity are very good. if you are intrigued and can get a sample then do it you may well be pleasantly surprised.

Wow, I am sooo surprised by this! Big Mugler fan and have no opportunity to sample first in the UK. Heard it's discontinued and found a great deal on Notino so blind bought, expecting to dislike or at least not enjoy based on the multitude of reviews here. I expected something genuinely unpleasant. That's not how I experience this at all! Yes, slightly windswept beach vibes, but on me, only in a subtle pleasant salty way, like spending a weekend at the coast and then coming home. Some sharp and sour citrus at the beginning, then some salty kind of vegetal notes with some underlying woodiness, but for me it's all got a freshness that keeps it quite light, airy and very summer appropriate. I get some subtle to moderate fig (coconut-esque, but greener and less creamy), which kind of wafts in and out throughout the day. Honestly....I kind of love it! Lasts on my skin probably 6-8 hours, but on clothing longer. Not a big powerhouse, but pleasant sillage. Honestly, so shocked at how non-awful this is, it's the first time I blind bought something expecting to dislike but wanting to at least try and I'm bowled over by how much I genuinely enjoy and will wear this. I also find the bottle gorgeous, and love the chain detail, very tactile and appealing. Wearing for a second day in a row. If you like Alien Mirage I think you'd like this as both have a similar somewhat salty/marine/cold/metallic/aquatic nature, although I find Womanity warmer and rounder due to the soft green/woodiness.

I've understood the beauty of "Womanity", EDP only when summer came. This fragrance needs warm skin, then it comes in an interesting refreshing accord that reminds of the sea breeze (not exactly aquatic, but sea salt, sea grass, non-sweet blooms and a bit of greenery). Yes, that metal note is there, but when on a cold skin, it dominates and the fragrance seems sharp, while on the warm skin it turns into that sea breeze feeling.

I love how complexed and non-banal this fragrance is, and there is an temptation in it which is difficult to explain; it is not a "nice" fragrance, but it has got such an interesting character.

I'm writing ANOTHER review after only 4 days, haha!
So first of all, I'm still not sure how I feel about it- yet i kept going back to it.
That's the thing, even if it's not "omg so delicious" it's still intriguing enough to keep drawing me back.

When I first smell it out of the bottle, it's quite sweet / sour to me, like mandarins.
A lot of people say it's sharp / metallic or even smoky and i really don't get too much of that.
I get earthy, dirty and woody but it DOES freshen up and smell more green over time.
I can't get enough of that salt!
It reminds me of castelveltrano olives - which are the least olivey-tasting olives. they are the very pale green, almost blueish olives.

It's a really raw, fleshy smell to me...
Which is backwards to me because the description of this perfume is decidedly modern. The cap looks futuristic and cyberpunky. And everyone says that they feel like a 'sophisticaed, modern woman' when they wear it, but i get the opposite.

I get a very natural hippy woman that doesn't shave and doesn't wear deodorant, but still smells vaguely sweet because she thrives on a diet of raw fruits. It smells like a sweaty (aka: glowing) forest fairy. Or the 'mermaid eating oranges' as someone commented below!
I get rural, animalic, skunky, swampy, damp, green and dirty. A woman who is in tune with nature.
And I think that's why I like it, because I'm kind of that person...

I'm pretty 'natural.' Despite living in NYC, i never dress up sleek or modern and I never command the streets of the city. I'm a country girl at heart, and I don't always wear deodorant, and I don't mind the dirty work of outdoorsy rural life.
So that's how I interpret Womanity.

But did Mugler win? Did they get my money?
Ironically, i was telling myself "it's okay, you have time to figure out if you like it. it's not like it's being discontinued or anything."
And then I found out, it IS being discontinued. So of course, scarcity made me pull the trigger.

Yes, Mugler wins.
Not because this was an instant hit, but because it held my interest and it was different.

EDIT: okay so after getting a full size bottle, i just discovered, the people complaining that it smells like cigarettes are probably applying waaayyyy too much.

i just experimented with a generous amount (usually, i'm a conservative 2 spritz bitch. and that yields pleasant citrusy-figs with green salty notes)
but i after i doused myself, i got the tobacco-y, oudy, dusty, pine sap, rosin smell.

apply less if you want "mermaid eating oranges"
apply generously if you want leather jacket with dusty pine rosin
