The Wolf

Nice fresh scent that with a bright citrus opening that transitions to a gentle floral musk. The signature MFK musk is here but dialed way down, and very tame, letting the florals (hawthorne mostly) sing. The orange blossom is detectable but also dialed down, as is the lavender and ambrox, to make room for the hawthorn flower. Not an ambroxen heavy perfume whatsoever.
Soft, delicate, comforting, and as expected from such a delicate creature, fleeting on my skin in the high heat. Leans 60/40 feminine imo, but no problem wearing for me.

After multiple wearings, the creaminess of the orange blossom is really standing out to me now. Compared to TF Neroli Portofino, Petit Matin is less fruity and bitter and more dry and musky.

Elposa23

This was actually the first niche fragrance I smelled. I was blown away by how a fresh citrus fragrance could smell this fantastic. Never had I smelled a fragrance that could smell like the most luxurious soap or laundry detergent while still being this smooth. It was literally the most luxurious fresh fragrance I’ve ever put my nose to.

Fast forward a few years and this is still my favorite freshie, even though I have a more developed nose and taste. Don’t hold fresh fragrances to the same standard as the darker, heavier ouds/orientals/ambers etc… this is not supposed to be complex or last and project like crazy. If you just want to smell fresh and clean with a touch of luxury then this is for you.

Poised cheerfulness

antimaitre

Brisk, clean, bright, and stronger than you might expect. One to wear on days when you wake up a little fresher and earlier than usual, and you wish to take that pleasant surprise with you through the rest of the day. It inspires a cheerful diligence.

meredithxx

Very lemon 🍋 forward. A fresh spring day scent. Cheerful. The combination of notes is lovely but - & maybe this is just me - I can barely smell it. I had to spray about half the sample on myself to feel I was experiencing anything & push my nose against my skin to really appreciate it. The scent faded fast on me as well. It smells expensive like every perfume from this house but I couldn’t buy it for myself because I like to be able to fully smell & appreciate the scent on me.

bingo001

A gentle breeze on a summer day perfectly captures the essence of this scent. Initially, I may have underestimated its allure, but considering the latest fresh releases from MFK, this one distinctly stands out. While it carries a hint of masculinity, I wouldn't strictly label it as a masculine fragrance.

Wearing it, I enjoy a lasting impression of 6-8 hours, with intermittent wafts of its invigorating aroma. It serves as a refreshing boost, particularly with its vibrant, sparkling notes, offering a lift just when the day seems to drag on.

Ultimately, investing in a full bottle, preferably a larger size than the standard offering, is a decision I wholeheartedly endorse. I anticipate it will shine even brighter during the crisp mornings, providing a rejuvenating commencement to the day.

RyanDaRaider

Now this is citrus done the right way. Very fresh clean, def smell the lemon and orange, but in a beautiful way. 9/10

emil1724

likeable, smooth fresh laundry type scent, linear and incomplex but just very good at what it does. Asking point is a little much but honestly this is really high quality stuff. Will buy on a sale perhaps.

aakaashrio15

this is a very calming perfume that is unique but not at the same time? its just very fresh and a very linear scent profile. what u smell in the opening is what you get throughout. also has about a 5-6 hour longevity with decent projection. these are meant for a nice coffee brunch or a morning breakfast. it does have a very nice smell but just not worth the price point..

BGBG

Fantastic. Absolutely gorgeous and addictive. The perfect balance between lemon, musk and orange blossom!

Jérémie Chaput

A citrusy smell, very fresh and perfect for the summer months. Unlike other MFK scents, this one is not a lasting scent and does not project much (at least, not for me) but it's elegant and easy to wear.

LauraVTerrazas

Gorgeous but a very common profile. Perhaps an easy reach contender or for someone who is first starting to get into niche houses. 🙂

Ferg1

Smells nice but not sophisticated enough. On the other side i think it's not easy to make a sophisticated citrus summer fragrance. Most of the time especially with Francis Kurkdjian's fresh scents you will always get this fresh laundry effect which is disturbing at that price range imo. This is not a perfume that will blow you away or that has to take place in your collection because of it's uniqueness, you will not get that with this one. But you will smell good for sure.

Only for hot summer days, there are much better things to wear in colder days.

Jadewihongi

A lovely ode to morning light and early risers!

Such a pleasant balance of lemon, orange blossom, musk and lavender. It feels more luxurious than Tom Ford's Neroli Portofino.

Gentle and bright, these notes evoke those still moments during an early morning stroll.

But it's an ephemeral sort of morning — within the hour, the warm, sharp, energising woodiness of ambroxan abruptly wakes up and says a big hello, as the other notes discreetly exit and go about their day.

onlythesun321

smells like a tart little clementine!! the orange blossom adds depth and longevity. so so pretty.

TooSweet

Layer this stuff with Absolute Aphrodisiac and your all set!

Mjchaelj

The perfect citrusy fresh fragrance. Fantastic quality. Very refreshing. I like this much much more than 724 which is more generic in my opinion.

Enrium

Petit Matin is a simple, pleasant freshie, nothing groundbreaking or exciting, and certainly overpriced for what it is. It is a lemon-forward scent, a difficult dominant note to get right, due to its sharpness and association with cleaning products. In this case, the lemon is balanced nicely by the other notes, its edges blurred by the musk and given body by the soft orange blossom. It does, however, bring to mind restaurant wet wipes as @denian99 below points out - a common pitfall of lemon freshies, but overall, PM isn't too bad.

PM is lemon-led from initial spray, bright and tart. The lavender follows closely, adding a lovely aromatic edge, complementing the lemon nicely. Soft, clean musk emerges early on, predictable but a nice addition, tempering the sharpness of the lemon.

As it develops, orange blossom emerges, and it segues to an orange-dominant scent. The orange blossom, while sweet, is not syrupy or cloying - it remains a fresh citrus scent. Creamy ambroxan rounds out the musk in the base, and it fades to a musky skin scent with a hint of orange. Sillage and longevity are moderate.

A straightforward, unisex citrus freshie, PM is pleasant, but nothing special. There are myriad better citrus freshies available, often at a fraction of the price. 2.5/5.

denian1999

This reminds me of the scent used in some single-pack wet wipes that Chinese restaurants provide here in Singapore. Perhaps due to that, I feel that this is way overpriced when purchasing at retail.

babypong

The citrus and green smell comes off as evergreen on my skin, which is great and smells high quality but super masculine. It’s fresh and clean, definitely something I would apply in the morning as it’s named. Will likely give away to my brother. Silage was moderate and it only lasts around 5 hours before I need to reapply.

crossnf

I don't know why people love 724 when this is such a superior clean scent from MFK! No intense chemical laundry detergent, just a wonderfully balanced, natural smelling clean and crisp fragrance for any season. It is delicate and intimate, almost a skin scent -- and the citrus, musk and floral work together in a unique way that reads pure and bright. Love it for all ages, seasons, and genders.

xlei2004

This is the perfume that I really enjoy wearing in the summer. The freshness of lemon, the soapy touch of orange blossom, and the crisp, clean scent give me a warm and sunny feeling as if the sunshine is bathing me. That's probably what a summer morning in Paris feels like.

e120le

Tender, refined, sweet musky. No notes overpowers. Not exclusively for summer

seoul_soulnyc

My current favorite fragrance for spring and summer. It perfectly reminds me of the morning in Paris. It is similar to most citrus and clean classic fragrances, but it still has its own charm. I just love it so much except for its poor longevity and sillage.

WitchQueen

4.5/10 At first I liked it, but after a couple of wears it just turned into expensive laundry detergent.

dabeyondobsessedemperor

What a beautiful unisex summer scent. Like the commenter below, Petit Matin smells next-level citrus-soapy on my skin. It’s extremely fresh and clean, almost like the world’s bougiest dish soap (I swear that I mean that in the best way possible). It’s got slight hints of slightly creamy florals and even a faint aldehydic note in the background, but other than that, a fairly linear scent profile that doesn’t really develop much. Overall, think of a lemon meringue pie being served to you alongside high tea at the Mandarin Oriental—that’s the vibe of this scent in its entirety. I will say that some younger people (teenagers to mid 20s) might find this a bit mature for their liking, but don’t let it stop you from testing it out.

The nice thing about this fragrance is that even though the actual scent is light and fragrant enough to never be overpowering or headache-inducing, it actually lasts like crazy. Like seriously, this is one of the best performing citrus-forward colognes in my collection. On my skin, it projects arm’s length 4-6 hours after spraying, and remains as a beautiful skin scent for up to 12 hours. As such, it’s become one of my favorite summer options for long days where I know re-applying is not feasible.

I’ve been struggling to find a fresh fragrance in MFK’s collection that suited me—honestly, most of them smelled like something I would spray to freshen my room instead of use as a cologne. Thanks to Petit Matin, I can put that problem at ease. How beautifully crafted and perfectly balanced.

proscarabeus

Very soapy and lemony.I Iove it. It is linear and simple. I do not pick of any of the lavander nor the other floral notes. It is fresh musky powdery. If someone likes lemons and sopy perfumes it is a safe blind buy.

Thykes10

I pick up on a burst of lemon in the opening- a very zesty citrus vibe. Then the realistic orange blossom comes out more. This has an overall elegance that other fresh/realistic orange blossoms don't have. The drydown is a really nice slightly sweet musk. But on me, the sillage is only decent for 1-2 hours and the drydown is a faint skin scent at just the 3 hour mark. Not sure it's worth it for me. I wish so badly this lasted better on my skin to justify the price tag!

ver5

So I bought the 11ml bottle and when I first smelled it, I thought it was quiet generic and meh, so I stopped wearing it. A few weeks later I tried it again and it smelled amazing, it instantly became my favourite fresh scent. It's citrus, but not a super bright citrus, and the dry down is my favourite, it's soft and musky and you can still smell the freshness. I also feel like it somehow smells a little bit sweet, like fruity sweet, but only a teeny bit. I wear it almost everyday for work, it stays for about 5 hours (1 hour outdoor and 4 hours indoor activity).
Now, I'm buying the full 70ml bottle!

ForTheLoveOfFrag

I was extremely surprised by this! From the reviews I thought this was going to blah, generic, yadayada. It really isn't! It's probably one of the very view that reads totally unisex to me. It can "lean" one way or other depending on who is wearing it and their chemistry. I attribute this to the ambroxan (which I'm a sucker for when done correctly). At first it is kind of 999 out of 1000 but about 10 minutes in is where the beauty and quality shine through. I can see wearing this on a fall day, there's just enough warmth to it. It doesn't scream "spring and summer" to me. A full bottle is on my (ever growing) list for my hubby and me to share!

Riverwind79

Its between like and love for me. This scent reminds me of Givenchy Gentleman Cologne, Eau de Givenchy, and also Neroli Portofino.
Petit Matin last quite a long while on my body as its already mid-day, I can still get whiffs of it occasionally.

chosesvert

First impressions: Bright- A bit of a tug of war between juicy and soapy as the neroli and lemon compete. Definitely not a cloudy morning, more like the sun is cutting through the curtain and shining in my eyes. It's nice, can be dressed up or down, but a bit linear for my preference. Plus, you can find similarly sunny and inoffensive scents for a lot less.

nicetosmellyou

It is undoubtably a phenomenal soapy fragrance, opens up incredibly fresh and juicy from photorealistic lemon combined with lavender to give it a sharp masculine-floral touch. Settles on a slightly white floral, musky base giving a slight metallic aldehydic laundry vibe that I'm not very fond of. However, the impression I'm getting is not very strong so it doesn't break the scent for me. The composition really has a relaxing, calming sunday morning vibe to it. And the slightly aldehydic laundry vibe that I'm getting may remind you of clean bed sheets, waking up on a sunday morning. Petit Matin is a perfect name to describe the scent.

raiza1990

This is very pleasant! Fresh, but soft and relaxing. Doesn’t smell like a cleaning product like many citrusy scents. It’s something nice for lazy summer mornings but it’s not groundbreaking. You can find similar options way cheaper. Nonetheless, if you have the money and want something clean and classy, it’s worth testing.

claudiatalaugon

This was a blind buy for me because I saw lavender and thought I’d love to smell this on my boyfriend. Originally I purchased Prada’s Luna Rossa for him as the cologney smell with lavender was a hit for me and then I realized I wanted to explore other frags with the masculine mix with lavender. It was heavenly with the combination of his natural scent. But petit matin is impeccable… it wouldn’t be his personal first choice but damn I love that lemon/lavender/cologne mix on a man.

IamdrinkingBeer

Musky lemon. Similar to Neroli Portofino, actually its just as good as Neroli Portofino. Beautiful spring summer scent, easy to wear and inoffensive.

Where the problem is for me, is the opening is amazing, and then i cannot stand the overt musks in the drydown, too much for me.

violeteme

What a refreshing classic cologne type of perfume. Energetic and unisex. Smells a bit like some kind of lemon scented window spray. Unfortunately, extremely short lived, not unique and for that reason too pricey.

katjashba

Let’s consider the name Petit Matin (“little morning”) when we talk about the longevity of this beautiful fragrance. My interpretation is that it’s not supposed to last all day. On the MFK website they market it together with Grand Soir (“grand evening”), so to me, you don’t want Petit Matin to last all day because you want to wear Grand Soir in the evening. Makes perfect sense to me.

alternateu

A delicious, kinda sexy freshie.
Perfect for the sticky, sweaty heatwaves we've been having recently. It's subtle and fresh, without being too "sharp" or "clean" or just "too much". You get a nice hint of that Sicilian lemon with a bit of lavender. I don't get much orange blossom here. The ambroxan is REALLY strong from start to end, and gives the perfume this sexy, musky, mineral vibe.

Bang-in-the-middle unisex.
I'm tempted to say poor performance, but actually I think it's maybe just a very soft projection. The longevity is poor-average (especially considering that price, whew), about three hours on a very hot sweaty day. But on a hot and sweaty day, I can't think of anything else I'd rather wear more.
Will think about whether I want a full bottle of this, but in the meantime, will milk my 5 ml decant well.

9/10

-

Edit: I bought a bottle for my mother, who loved it even more than I did, and when she sprays it on her clothes, I actually do get 1 to 2 arms’ length of sillage from her! So yes, on clothes, pretty good performance.

NellieD

This would be a lovely smell for a household cleaner. As a perfume, I find myself unable to stand it after an hour or so--not because of how it evolves, but because of how it doesn't.

Greenbean15

I would bathe in this if I could. Lemony, bright, pretty fragrance.Uplifting morning scent and yes a bit of clean laundry, but it's so lovely. If you enjoy fresh with a more grown up, sophosticated vibe, this is it. Full bottle worthy, even at this price point.

wowoweee

very synthetic smelling squeaky clean lemon, like a spotless bathroom. dry down is sweettarts, lemon, musk and laundry, with a healthy dose of chemicals. leans feminine. good longevity but commits the cardinal sin of smelling cheap when it’s definitely not.

if you’re a man and want a clean, soapy citrus frag, go with LV Imagination. you won’t get the laundry vibe but it’s lightyears better

Yessamin

Even my husband who is not interested in perfumery at all said to me: You smell like Nenuco and this is way overpriced. To which I could only reply: indeed…

Liv May

When i first smelled Petit matin it unlocked a childhood memory. It’s smells exactly like Nenuco baby fragrance water ! If you grew up in the late 80’s early 90’s in southern Europe or some African countries you probably have smelled this. It’s a very nice citrus/sweet scent. But my mother inlaw bought me 2 big bottles of this when my daughter was born. I still have a bottle left and compared both. Petit matin is Nenuco in parfum form. I wouldn’t purchase a bottle for that reason , even though i enjoy the scent.

Sniffathon

A delicious lemony opening, not overly zingy and subdued by a lovely muskiness. The lavender is just a little whisper. The drydown manages to retain some of the citrus freshness and is lovely, not overly musky. Ambroxan is not usually my friend but is done beautifully in this composition.
I sampled this at same time as 724 and I much prefer this. 724 quickly dries down into a mildly animalic musk which I don’t find very pleasant. Petit Matin however is a beautiful freshie. A little boring as far as freshie’s go and considering the high price point, but a safe buy and easy to wear as a pick me up in warmer weather.

East River Pearl

A very old school sharp citrusy floral. I do get the lavender coming through. The longevity and sillage are both decent and it smells expensive but it's a bit too mature and too sharp for my taste.

Scouthome

Petit Matin is to me a beautiful, very traditionally female leaning citrus/white floral fragrance with a mild skin like musky foundation. Clean and if you ask me quite girly and innocent. But above all beautiful and kind in its composition. Nothing groundbreaking or unique but like many fragrances from this house well thought through with a classic leaning vibe.
Nothing offensive but also nothing surprising or innovative.

I find that MFK creates quite a few fragrances that carry a similar vibe to this and that create quite a contrast to the houses otherwise often quite polarising and creatively innovative creations like their Baccarat rouge 540 line or their ouds and gourmands. So it might be good to be aware of that fact so one does not get disappointed expecting only the innovative fragrances with their powerful projection and silage that I believe most people connect with this house.
As this is another and much more shy and bashful side of the MFK vibe… To this more sweet and innocent side of their fragrances can be counted their rose fragrances (not the ouds), some of their Aqua lines and also Petit Matin.

To break this down I think the overall impression is a clean citrus/orange blossom freshie which make me think of clean laundry hanging outside in a sunny day, or a young girl or woman in a new dress or even a bride.
If I compare it to for instance the Aqua Celestia cologne forte which I also have in my collection they share a lot of similarities. Perhaps more than would warrant the existence of both? But at the same time there are differences and such that will make different people prefer one over the other. And not all the same…

The Petit Matin is more citrusy and fizzy and the flowers more fresh like when smelling them out in nature while the citrus in the Aqua Celestia cologne forte is more leaning into the citrus detergent area where also the flowers have been picked and therefore also have a slight indolic side to them. Petit Matin therefore feels fresher and more naturalistic if that makes sense while Aqua Celestia cologne forte relies more on the musky aspect of the composition.
Both do have a skin like mild musky foundation, but in Petit Matin it stays in the clean skin territory while in the Aqua Celestia cologne forte it can lean a bit animalic.
Now we are talking subtleties here!
The overall impression of both Petit Matin and Aqua Celestia cologne forte is that they are very innocent and sweetly shy citrus/white floral fragrances. What I am trying to convey is that among the fragrances within the MFK line up you can find fragrances that are a lot more subtle than the ones you normally think of when you think of this house. And that among some of the houses more innocent and shy creations there also are quite a few that are fairly similar from one another with only subtle but still significant differences. Differences however that can be very important when trying to find a fragrance that best suits your personal preferences! So it is not in any way a critique from me. More an apparition.

In the dry down of Petit Matin the fizzyness of the citrus dissipates and the very slightly sweetened skin like musk begins to take over flanked by a bit of ambroxan that to me makes the musk stay within the clean civet-free territory. As far as the flowers go I can’t say I am able to pick out any lavender or even hawthorn in this composition. Instead it is mostly an orange blossom that stands out with perhaps a bit of airyness to it that may come from a tiny bit of lavender. But if you normally think of lavender as a herbal or very sweet leaning note, then you will not be able to find that here. But it can sometimes round off a bit of the citrus in an orange blossom which then helps create that sense of clean laundry vibe that I think is present here especially in the dry down. The opening is more of a fresh floral.

This remains an innocent girl of a fragrance also when talking performance, and therefore not one to project a whole lot. But goes into skin scent territory rather quickly. Albeit since it is an ambroxan fragrance some people may pick up on especially that note more than the overall silage may be able to offer. So even though I would deem this an office safe fragrance, one might have to take that into consideration since ambroxan is perceived very differently by different people.

To me this shares quite a lot of aspects with Aqua Celestia Cologne Forte but this is fresher and to me perhaps florally more beautiful. More clean laundry hanging outside on a sunny day, while Aqua Celestia CF reminds me more of a bathroom clean scent, with more of the detergent aspects of citrus and white flowers. (If you read my review of that fragrance you will find I have some thoughts on that particular accord). Both are however very mild projectors. Longevity wise I think you may get perhaps an hour or two more from Petit Matin around 4-5 hours on me, (3-4 hours with Aqua Celestia CF.) Keeping in mind though that the latter is a cologne and this is an eau de parfum concentration wise.

If one is looking for a more strongly projecting and silage offering freshie, clean laundry kind of scent profile compared to Petit Matin one does not need to go to another house either since of course MFK offers that too… In their newest release of their 724 fragrance. It’s less citrusy fizzy, but a lot more powerful and gives off the vibe of a cool luxury hotel laundry detergent freshie kind of scent… Less innocence but stronger performance and more unisex too.
But if you are looking for a classic, kind and innocent not overly sweet citrus/white flower freshie leaning feminine and not at all aquatic or woody and perfect for spring or summer scent - Or you are looking for a subtle signature scent - And you do not need strong projection or silage and don’t mind if you need to re-apply your perfume a few times during the day - Then this is a beautiful albeit not very unique perfume to try out. ❣️

Sterben9225

A bit of a nothing burger. Smells like lemon and bitter orange. Lots of musk on the dry-down. It doesn't smell like a $300 fragrance. If someone told me this costs $75 I would believe them. Its not low quality by any means it's just not as exciting as other scents in its price range.

aaronmy

This smells good. It's lightly floral and citrusy and it's pretty musky. The performance is not the best, but I still believe it is a nice fragrance if you don't want to wear something powering. This isn't for me, but this is a very likable scent to my nose and you cannot go wrong with this.

catalyst11225

Favorite clean fresh linen type of fragrance. Citrus and white florals done right. There's cheaper options out there for sure therefor I can't justify the MFK pricing.

lessthanzero

It's perfectly nice, but it is forgettable. It's pretty easy to get an idea of what it smells like from looking at the notes. It smells nice, but it could just as well be a summer flanker for D&G Light Blue, Acqua di Gio, etc.

Not something for which I'd be willing to splash out serious money, but I can see why some people would.

3/5

Mmarhama

I don’t like the smell of Petit Matin, but I totally understand why someone would. The dry down kinda smells like old Pantene shampoo. Definitely a pass for me though.

Ferra_Verto

Sparkling lemon rinds with soapy sweet orange blossom, pares down to a musky lavender. Very fresh, clean, and uplifting, I would consider this a more 'fluffy' take on TF's Neroli Portofino
My sample lasted around 5 hrs, best suited for spring & summer months.

Acidula

Oh how I like the first whiff. Like many MFK fragrances, it starts powerful and uplifting. Just a couple of minutes, and the aldehydes will take control making it cloying and synthetic.
Then, it will disappear altogether.
bUt iT's bEcAuSe iT cAuSeS aNoSmiAaA
Well, even if this was the case, WHAT'S THE POINT of making perfumes which cause anosmia? To make me throw hundreds of bucks down the drain for a fragrance I can't even smell? I see lady spraying furiously their expensive bottles every 30 minutes because THEY DON'T KNOW and make the air unbreathable. Especially if they wear BR540.
I'm afraid I'll never be a fan of this maison, I find it all but revolutionary, just average scents in beautiful bottles.

Decoris Amora

Scent of the Night is MFK's Petit Matin.

Opens bright, citrusy and floral with more than a hint of neroli although it's not listed in the note breakdown. The soapy cleanliness comes from the orange blossom and the ambroxan, settling down to a muted musky warmth.

Performs well enough with the musk anchoring the quickly dissipating citrus notes and providing the required longevity.

Very pleasant and easy to wear and not likely to invite any dislike but not exactly original either.

Quite often compared to Xerjoff's Nio and Le Labo's Bergamote 22. I can see why this is so but the differences are nevertheless quite apparent.

laura710

Italian town in the summer. Lemon trees, and clean laundry hanging outside. Blue sky and a light warm breeze.

I surprisingly love this. A great neroli, soapy fragrance. It smells of sunny days and clean laundry, and holidays.

Ilikewhatilike

My favourite orange blossom fragrance. The lemon is realistic, the musk and touch of lavender keep it from being generic or boring. Another banger from MFK.

persb010

Bright and sparkling lemon, soft creamy orange blossom. Musk and lavender to make it so soft. For the kind of fragrance it is, it performs very well and should be commended for it. The Italian lemon remains fresh for a noticeably long time. The lemon continues to remain present while it balances with everything else and it all combines together to have some legs.

A true superior to Neroli Portofino.

AAAABSOLUTELY under rated MFK fragrance. I will always have a bottle of this.

Oloriffic

Another bar of soap to gag on, great. This is for anyone who loves to bathe as soon as they get up every morning.
Some will remain unimpressed, others will find love and comfort in this MFK offering. Not my favorite, but it's a hard like when the mood strikes...albeit not often.
This one’s quite strong...especially pour le matin...so spray judiciously. It is professionally well done, could go either way in terms of love or hate, but it is well made, no doubt. Performance is fine...not sure I'd want to smell like this all day...name is apropos. 8/10

Yawn

Child Chemist

I would wear this with confidence to a job interview. Polished, bright, metallic/astringent lemon.

Mizi

Very zesty lemony fresh cotton shirt…chemical. I’m not sure what it is about MFK but none of his perfumes sit well with me - or rather on me. They all seem to have a chemical harsh note in them, I can’t quite pinpoint what it is, but literally all have it. Regardless the Petit Matin is probably least offensive of all to my nose. If you like ‘natural’, uplifting/fresh, skin scents try this one.

Trishaaa

This is the most spring scent I've literally ever smelt. The lemon shines bright in the beginning and continues to linger in the dry down, however with that being said, the florals come out much more in the dry down which is interesting for sure. It really does make you feel refreshed and energised. Super easy to pull off for any woman and I'd be delighted to smell it on others! I keep going back to smell it because it really does something special to me.

IrisPrima

Zesty and creamy morning scent.

Comforting and bright, Petit Matin is a delicate, yet persistent citrus fragrance. I generally do not like lavender notes in perfumes, but this one is quite naturally beautiful. Outstanding MFK quality and signature. Versatile and Unisex.

Highly appreciated.

CamillaAre

I usually don´t like scents heavy on lemon. Musc can turn to a rubber scent on my skin. I don´t like lavender either - not even in the garden. Therefore, I was not really attracted by the pyramid here on Fragrantica. But this is something else!

At first, I get a burst of fresh airy, very light and almost powdery lemon. The musc and the flowers blend so well together and form a soft and clean, almost fresh laundry smell, grounded and warm, yet playful. It´s like warm clean cotton sheets hanging in the garden amongst flowers on a sunny day.

The scent is pretty linear and the lemon fresh turns more woody and herbal during the day. Still a feminine scent to me. I can´t stop smelling my arm! It´s a calming and relaxing scent, and will probably not offend anyone. The ambroxan is not in my face, blends in well.

I really love, love this scent. The only negative is the poor sillage - I wish it could project more for this price tag, but it stays close to the skin. Lasting is 8h+ on skin.

I can highly recommend ordering a sample set from MFK's official website.
Just 14 EUR (shipping included) for 4 different scents x 2 ml and 100% legit.

If I was an English royal, this would be my signature scent.

Outstanding fragrance. Petit Matin evokes elegance, mass appeal and good mood.

Every note listed is distinguishable, but they work in unison seamlessly. If I had to pick, the most prominent ones are lavender, ambroxan and orang blossom. Sweet, heavily floral, aromatic and slightly soapy — Petit Matin is not complicated, but so likable and far from being boring.

Perfect for summer morning, you can even get away wearing 2 sprays of this in hot weather. If there was ever a white shirt fragrance, Petit Matin would be it.

Petit Matin and Chanel Allure Homme Edition Blanche are probably the only two fragrances I would buy without caring about the performance. Shame that I live in a city where the minimum wage is USD300 per month.

What a fragrance.

IAmStaka

Lightweight, calmingly fresh out of the shower fragrance. This is what "Lazy Sunday Morning" from Margiela should've been.

The only thing keeping this in unisex territory is the lavender. Otherwise it would be too feminine.
It's not bad, but highly overpriced. I like the Aqua Celestia Forte offerings more, you kinda get more value for the buck you pay, they have more kick to them.

Final Verdict: I'd love to receive this, if someone else paid for it lol.

RogerFraglover

Really fresh smell, like a freshly laundered shirt. A nice change from your typical Citrus, Blue summer type fragrance.
Love this house and highly recommend Petit Matin.

BGBG

Orange blossom, baby lotion, bergamot, cologne, aromatic herbs (rosemary?). Eau de Givenchy like. Calming, relaxing.

Staretsi

Early morning, that's what Petit Matin translates as and this name gives you an indication of what it evokes: the small hours of a warm summer morning.

Calabrian lemon opens the accords yet it is blended beautifully with may chang and lavender sitting atop a creamy, soapy musk. It reminds me a little of Givenchy's Gentleman Cologne, albeit better blended with a superior scent.

I live in an extremely hot and humid region. Fragrances with this profile shine in this clime. This is an excellent choice for warm summer days. It's right up there with Soleil Blanc for me as a summer daytime fragrance. In fact, Petit Matin is great to start the morning and then Soleil Blanc can be applied in the late morning as we approach the heat of midday.

ckorp8

Yes, confirmed, this is a lemon. Lol. Nothing bad, really. This is a soft sweet kind, nothing zesty or sourish. The scent is rather nice, but really not up to par in comparison to my favorite Grand Soir. The last time I smelled it was ten hrs after the first spray and it was rather soapy but nice still.

Really hate the way the bottle cap is finished though. I had to confirm with the sales that it was intentional and not manufacturing defect. 🙄

qofb

Well it's nice to try an MFK that isn't the obvious one...

So this is really quite soapy feeling for me, it makes me think of lemon Fairy liquid to begin, and honestly that's not a bad thing, it's obviously much nicer than that. As it develops, it goes into a soft citrus no man's land where neither lemon nor orange can adequately describe how this smells. It's really quite tangy and mellow. I think actually it's the lavender that is giving this the soapiness and it's also a tiny bit salty and the musk is there but gentle, it's also a little powdery. As it dries further it gets saltier and muskier. This fragrance sticks around surprisingly well, but overall it is very soft. I think it does radiate but it's not a beast.

So overall this fragrance makes me think of bubbles and macaron shops with pastel colours, it is really very pretty.

Do I like this? Yes, but it doesn't feel like me.

missloveschocolate

This is a super nice perfume for when it’s hot outside. So fresh, citrusy, kind of watery and with a very clean chemical note. Dry down is fantastic, makes me think of a field with dry grass, lemonade and something tiny bit salty. Love it!

Omiyuu

This scent is delicious and fresh.

Nice, clean citrus with an amazing dry down. I found this to not project as much, but it does last all day. A great underrated gem, and a must have for the warmer days.

Definitely a must-have.

Inner Scents

This is my favorite fresh fragrance right now! The lemon opening is nice, not too citrusy but just right. But what makes me really love this fragrance is the dry down. It smells like the cleanest, most luxurious laundry you've ever smelled in your life. On one hand I feel that this fragrance should receive more attention in the fragrance community and in general but on the other hand I love that I don't smell it on everyone which keeps me from growing tired of it (not wearing it everyday also helps). The fragrance community can go on loving Baccarat Rouge and Gentle Fluidity Silver; I'll stick with Petit Matin, my favorite from MFK.

dudebro

Petit Matin starts with a bright and gleeful lemon, then dries down into a beautiful musk and freshly cleaned, warm, out-of-the-dryer laundry. from the sample it didn't seem to last as long as I'd expect. I usually only purchase colognes that will make it through the workday.

nonetheless I had to have such a happy smell. I liked it too much to go without, and I'm glad I picked up this little treat.

I usually wear 3-5 sprays depending on the cologne and the atomizer. what prompted me to rewrite my review is the longevity from a full bottle. unlike the sample, this juice has been thriving for 6 to 9 hours on my skin through the day. Even I find that hard to believe, but I'm happy to report that this happy cologne makes me very happy for a very long time.

without a doubt, this is my favorite MFK. I think it's underrated but growing in appreciation. for me, this is an easy 9/10 and I couldn't be.....happier ;)

Vincents1278

This starts with a blast of dry citrus and some, what smells a lot to me like, petitgrain. A touch of lavender. It’s almost a light fougere. Maybe it is. Probably not. The bitter top notes fade over an hour or so to reveal a slightly warmer yet fresh powdery-amber-musk scent that is just this side of feminine, but can be unisex.

No offense intended to anyone, but calling this a citrus scent is a bit off. Sure, there’s citrus but it’s just a tenth of what’s going on here. If I had to sum this up in a catch-all category I’d say herbal-powdery-woody-oriental.

This is long lasting and moderate in projection. I’m sure this type of scent is easy to find anywhere but there is something about the way MFK blends and constructs fragrance that sets this a notch above a lot (most) of the others. I sprayed some right on the little white card the sample comes in and a day later it’s mostly ambroxan, but not simple at all. There’s still a herbal type of note in there that makes it a bit more interesting. Maybe a woodiness, but just a hint. As with other Kurkdjian fragrances, it’s complicated.
I can easily see myself spending a few hundred bucks with them in the next couple months. Buy from the website because you get a beautiful presentation and free atomizer samples.

Calvini

My favorite freshie of MFK. The orange blossom here is more like neroli, combined with a certain musk, produces a petitgrain-like semi-bitter drydown, giving it more character & masculinity than the other half-a-dozen offerings from the brand.

Ricka

I really like this perfume.
Used it more than 10 hours ago and I can still smell it well from my arm.
However I can't use it every day, it's just not interesting enough.
On my skin it's just lemon burst from morning till I get into the shower. No other notes are noticeable.
I don't know if the strong lemon scent will work out for everyone so I'm not so sure it easy to wear, also it's not for blind buy IMO.

emjh

This has now become my signature Spring scent. It was love at first sniff from sampling and I ordered a full bottle.

On MFK site Litsea Cubea is also listed and I smell this in the opening.

But what sets this apart from many other citrus florals is the lovely Hawthorn accord. To me this is walking by English hedgerows in May.

For me this fragrance is perfection and I feel it deserves more hype.

CrossCentury

Totally agree with selmakrantz's comment below me. The opening is amazing, but the dry down is even more wonderful. IMO this one is suitable for everyday and every season, particularly for spring and summer.

selmakrantz

This is, in my opinion, my ideal citrus. It’s not so sharp that it’s off-putting, yet not so sweet that it seems fake. It has a beautiful musky drydown and overall just plays very well with my skin chemistry. Today, I finally ran out of my testers and decided to just go for it and purchase the full bottle with no regrets. To my nose, it hits “unisex” right on the mark. I don’t find that it leans too masculine or too feminine. If you’re looking for a refreshing citrus to wear in warm weather, Petit Matin may be the way to go for you.

Ksj_

There’s been plenty said about this fragrance and mostly all of it is correct. However, I would push back on any reviewer that does not enjoy this fragrance. Because this may be one of the easiest fragrances to wear for Spring/Summer. It’s literally the epitome of a “dumb reach” fragrance and it is extremely enjoyable (especially the sillage). I would highly recommend this fragrance for someone looking for a solid warm weather fragrance.

Nicely done MFK.

7.5/10

RisingChaos

Light musk and what smells like a soft grapefruit, which presumably is just how the lemon + lavender notes combine. Fresh, a little powdery, a little soapy. Minimal projection right out of the gate for 2-3hr, longevity 10-12hr.

musculin fragrance

The ultimate summer fragrance. The top notes are reminiscent of fresh lemons overflowing with juice, and the last notes are beautiful with clean white flowers and the cool herbal scent of lavender. A wonderful fragrance that is comforting to smell on any hot day.

dsgnmind

I write my reviews for my own future reference.

Nice citrus and floral/powdery mix. Definitely more neutral on gender. After the initial citrus opening it dries down like an elegant dryer sheet. I know my grandmother brought back perfumes from France each year, and this reminds me a bit of her, at least nostalgically. It's like I'm walking into her bathroom and the mix of lemony cleaner and lingering french floral perfumes mingle (in a pleasant way). That doesn't mean it is old lady, not by far? Leans feminine to me. Nice to smell, but if gifted to me, I wouldn't know what to do with it.

Testing blind a year later, it opens initially with white floral, following quickly by the lemon that lingers. At the end of its life I pick up a more spicy body. Yes, still kinda very nice dryer sheet-like, and I appreciate it's mix, but prefer others from the house.

Shasta Dawn

Happiness in a bottle! Joyful and clean. Glorious in its simplicity. This is truly a work of art.

Cynthia30

This is gorgeous and a very natural smelling perfume.
I get yellow and orange and a bit of blue.
Blind smelling this, I thought it was lemon, orange, jasmine and blue watery notes.

I wouldn't really buy this coz I'm not into soapy citrus colognes. But if you like this type of perfume, it's so so gorgeous! Absolutely stunning!!! The wood is just perfect, it's a lemon tree, with wood and leaves!!!
It sounds boring but it really is very very pretty!!!
Reminds me of 4711/AdP/AdCC but better. Difficult to reinvent the wheel but MFK has done it.
1L of 4711 is $50. 1L of this is $4000. That's 80x the price.

RhettB27

Why does this smell just like Commodity Bergamot to me, damn. So close

Edit 4/21
Also smells like LV afternoon swim early on but after 15 min or so definitely evolves more from just citrus. Definitely saltier more bitter rindy citrus in AS but still reminiscent. Dryer and brighter citrus in PM with floral hints layering as it sets and dries more. More layered than commodity bergamot as well though the citrus is similar to my nose at least in how bright and dry it is while being realistic, but the PM has an air of sophistication to it. Growing on me a ton and this would work on a warm day in a nice clean dress shirt.

Cyllde

It's nice. I get a strong freshly squeezed lemon right at the start but I'm five minutes in now and the dry down on the back of my hand and wrist is super faint. Almost undetectable. I would have to over spray this and for the price I can't justify buying. Not all fragrances need to be beast mode, but again, for the price, I have smelled and have "better" lemony fragrances that last longer at a lower price point.

Fluer1510

At first spray, i was like wooo im seeing yellow, its like the feeling when you just woke up and draw open the curtain and the sunlight hits your face. I was abit overwhelmed by the citrus, very sour, but then i waited til it calmed down. Then the polite orange blossom comes out, and i dont really detect lavender, its linear to my nose. But yes i do like it especially now the weather is getting hotter where im staying. On my skin it doesnt turn soapy, but very refreshing.

cassisrose

Received a sample of this and wanted to love it, because I'm a lover of fresh, bright scents. And smelling it straight from the vial, I was in love. But on my skin, the fresh citrusy burst fades immediately and the scent turns to straight-up soap, as if someone rubbed a dry bar of soap on my skin. I don't pick up on any of the nuances others have described. Just soap. It's not unpleasant but I'm not sure why someone would want to pay this much to smell like a bar of irish spring. My sample vial will get tossed in my gym bag because it's the perfect thing for an after-gym spritz to keep you smelling passingly fresh until you can get to a shower.

foxy_minxy

I agree with WGG that this one is glorious in its simplicity. Effervescent lemon with lavender and greenish florals. Like a tall glass of iced sparkling water drunk in a mediterranean garden. I can't think of a better perfume for the summer months.

Leif

This reminds me of Green Irish Tweed by Creed, and Cool Water by Davidoff. Perhaps a bit brighter and zestier, especially in the opening. After a few hours, it smells nearly identical to the aforementioned fragrances on my skin. The longevity is a bit better, but not so much that it's worth the enormous price difference. Amongst these three, I would go for Cool Water, because it's nearly identical, and there is a huge price difference. At the time of writing, Cool Water is 323 NOK ($37 USD) for 200 ml, whereas Petit Matin is 2020 NOK ($233 USD) for 70 ml. That's a difference of 27,2 NOK (~$3.1 USD) per ml. The value-cost trade-off is thus even greater to that of Virgin Island Water by Creed vs. Gorse by Laboratory Perfumes. There are other MFK fragrances which are more unique, and I would rather spend my money on one of those.

WGG

I've had a bottle of this for some time now and neglected to post a review. Petit Matin isn't a beast, doesn't have multiple phases, won't cause women to faint or disrobe, probably won't draw many overt compliments. But what it does exhibit is a simple accord ('floral lemon tonic'??), delivered in the best way possible. I'm no perfumer but it surely takes a special skill, ingredients, blending etc etc to deliver such an exquisite experience. Simple, and simply outstanding.

JK731

Perfection! I see what FK was trying to accomplish and he did just that. I get it! This makes me happy, calm, and radiating with positive energy. It's insane to get such a reaction from a fragrance, but yes, that does all that for me. This (and Aqua Vitae Forte) are sunshine in a bottle. The balance between the creamy white floral & citrus notes is faultless. It's simple but brilliant. Don't expect crazy projection from this; I don't think it would suit the fragrance. This is exactly what it should be--no more no less.

gweyslabao

This is what I wear when I have a ton of mini errands to finish. It keeps me fresh and energized despite the activity. As scents rarely last long on my skin, I will keep this part of my collection forever.

I.Am.Victoriaaa

I always refer to this perfume as "Morning in Paris". And not like I've been to Paris and know what mornings there like, but that's how I would imagine that.
Growing up in Europe, I loved having early morning breakfasts in different cafes with a nice city view. Living in Toronto now - you won't find a place like this, nothing that charming here.

So imagine - the sun just came up, the air is still a bit cool but you can feel the first sun rays touching your skin. You are taking a walk to a small cafe in your neighborhood and the more you go into the day, the more excited you are about what's ahead of you. You are sipping on your tea with a lemon slice in it and just inhaling that scent of fresh-cut lemon makes you close your eyes and smile for a second. And don't forget about the lavender bouquet on the table, that calming and soft scent marrying that lemon slice in your tea. Can anything be better?

I am not a fan of citrusy scents, in fact, I never get attached to them and never spend hours sniffing on my wrist when I use them. But Petit Matin is very special and it was a love from first sight. I came to buy another sweet Kilian and while waiting for my SA to wrap it up, I decided to test some scents from the brand everyone is talking about but I've never tried. And I am still in love 3 years later.

smellysmello

Petit Matin seems to me like a warm, golden version of Aqua Universalis. They both share a bright citrus opening and many of the floral notes are similar. Petit Matin replaces the clean laundry essence of AU with a more earthy quality. The musk and ambroxan add a bit of richness and honey underneath the freshness and light. Polite projection, decent performance, completely unisex. Nice.

Pawly

Clean, fresh and light. I don't find it particularly strong on citrus but the musk and white florals really come out in this one. I also get some sort of honey, especially in the opening, even though it's not listed in the notes. I think this might be the combination of the musk and white florals as I've experienced this with other, similar fragrances as well.
This reminds me of a fancy shopping mall or hotel that has their own scent in the vents, so that the whole building has a certain luxurious smell. It could be great in a professional environment, or a place where you wouldn't want people to be offended by your scent. I think this is one of the least offensive things I've ever smelled and I can't imagine anyone disliking this on you. Somebody also mentioned a psychologist's office and I think that works surprisingly well, too. It has something comforting and soothing to it, almost like a spa.

That being said though, it's not crazy complex or particularly exciting. It is very much unisex though and now that I think about it, it reminds me of some sort of tea and smells very much like The Noir 29 from Le Labo, which I also love!

100% daytime and summer, very light, price is okay, will stay on skin for some time but doesn't project too much. I might add this to my collection at some point after I have bought my most important ones, this one is not on top of my wishlist but it is quite nice and I wouldn't mind having and using it.

redberry11

Petit Matin is fresh, clean and mind uplifting daytime fragrance. On me it is quite musky but the musky sharpness is held in check by the lemon freshness which reminds me on cumin at times. Although I am not a big fan of lemons, lavender or cumin in perfumes, I have to admit that together they smell very put together and sophisticated here. A surprise. Very wearable.

Lexdubbss

This perfume is headache inducing and reminds me of a very old grandmother. My least favorite MFK scent that I have tried. Think lemony cleaning product and powder. Gag worthy. I had to scrub it off of my wrist multiple times my second time giving it a chance. Can’t speak to its lasting power because I can never stand it for long.

Krasseman

Amazing fragrance. This one fits both men and women. Unisex but more male. I as a man get compliments from women when wearing this one. This one deserves more attention.

Terrence loves you

Disgusting!
Seriously, it’s not nice at all.
Citrusy, soapy, not in a nice way. I don’t get it how do people even buy a full bottle. Just tested it at a store.

HummusLover33

I did not expect to like this as much as I did. It starts out truly unisex, maybe even leaning a tad masculine for my personal taste. Then after an hour the lemon and orange blossom combine with the musk and it becomes a slightly creamy delicious yet crisp and fresh scent that leans towards feminine. Very chic and sophisticated.

A.Bandini

One of the most uplifting and chic summer fragrances and a treat after a wet shave on a sunny morning and the staying power is above average too thanks to ambroxan and musk. This is a silky and creamy lemon based fragrance. One of the few fragrances that i went through a bottle a couple of years ago.

Edit: started to induce headaches. Sold an almost full bottle. Its strange, i get a weird feeling in my throat whenever wearing masculin pluriel, now this with petit matin. I think i will steer clear of MFK fragrances from this point on.

joyceyanchan

A simple perfume which done in a polished way. Litsea is so prominent which give off a lemon candy smell. Good wearabiltiy.

mikestro

Initial impression after 1st wear: very floral and leans feminine. Smells like a walk through a flower garden. If you're a guy that has issues with a fragrance being too "feminine" and not manly enough stay away from this or test first. I guess this is considered a modern unisex fragrance.

carmie1024

I only have nice words for Petit Matin. I'm just glad I purchased this bottle instead of Aquauniversalis or Fluidity for that matter.. This is going to be another fave of mine.

AnnaElli

Really impressive lasting power for a citrusy fragrance. Smell very nice, fresh and unlike a lot of other citrusy florals in which the citruses are prominent mostly in the opening, but then subside and floral notes take over, this one maintains a lovely balance between the two accords, which I really enjoy. The floral notes and the musk nicely tone down the usual citrusy sharpness, making a really pleasantly smelling harmonic scent. It is unisex, I'd say, leaning towards feminine a bit more. On my skin it lasts longer than most of my fragrances and the sillage is pretty good too.

RottigrlNYC

I guess I must be weird, most perfumes don’t last on me but this one lasts a long time and it’s so beautiful. On my skin I get mostly citrus and orange blossom. The opening is just amazing. And it stays that way for hours. Most perfumes that other ppl claim lasts all day on them, lasts maybe an hour on me but this one ppl are saying it’s weak and laundry like and doesn’t last. Not on me. The scent is strong, beautiful and it lasts all day almost and I managed to snag it for $145 on MaxAroma when they had their 20% off on all MFK. Which they’re having again this week. I’ve been eying Amyris femme for a long time now. I should buy it as who knows when I will ever see any MFK for under $150 a bottle. Every time I wear Petit Matin I get so many compliments. One spray on my hand was enough for everyone to notice. “What a beautiful scent” is what I get. And I agree. It is feminine and so beautiful but I honestly can’t see a straight man pulling this one off.

theLady

Ok, I lied. I would totally purchase again if I had the bucks on me when I ran out. It's easy, it smells good, what's not to like?

fragem

Smells like a cross between Lush's bath bombs "Twilight" and "Sex Bomb" with some of that added bath bomb powderiness. Does not reflect the genius and price tag of the MFK house. By the way, these two bath bombs are super basic lavender and white floral scents. To my nose, this smells feminine. I can't really see a man pulling this off.

Kloppo

Decent apple-based start as is common with a lot of the MFK fresh/floral fragrances, bit it dries down to anunpleasant mildewey smell on my skin. 5/10

ruby_evelyn

ALMOST perfect perfume! I love it, it's clean and fresh, womenly and elegant scent (could be perfect in the office). The name really fits, petit matin. The only (and main) issue is the weak performance. It disappears in one hour :-( it's not worth it for me

theLady

I enjoy this perfume quite a lot. It was a luxury purchase for me. My bottle is half empty but I probably wouldn't get it again. It functions as a light, enjoyable citrus perfume. It's easy to spray quite a bit on and go outside with lightness and aplomb, but I have other perfumes that fulfill this function. I can just as easily wear Oeillet Louis XV (Oriza L. Legrand) for the same reason that I wear this - an olfactory lift. It is true that OLXV is centered on rose, carnations, and cloves, but it does the same thing for me emotionally, and since I have a 100ml bottle of the latter, I won't need to re-up on the former. Also, I don't live in a very hot part of California, perhaps if I did, I'd be more concerned with another bottle. THOUGH, being the fragrance whore that I am, as I REALLY think about it, it saddens me to think of my bottle draining, never to be replaced. But still, it's a like, not a love, for me.

Lemons and orange blossom dominate on my skin. It makes me think of white cotton curtains billowing in a fresh, crisp breeze.

ghkim

Very weak maybe this would work in very hot humid weather but I can barely smell it on myself. I get lemon rind and a touch of lavender. Pretty dry. Unisex. Clean, simple, not very interesting.

Belli9

The acqua collection doesn't suit me, but this is interesting.. they smell like clothes that are dried outside in the sun and in the wind.. however.

Eiland

Just ok. It smells like fresh laundry, which is alright, but not like a special woopdiedoo kind, more like a standard laundry detergent that you buy at a regular supermarket. It's nice and fresh, but wash your clothes and you'll smell the same, but then a lot cheaper.

Strange enough the fragrance doesn't seem to react with my skin at all: the smell stays exactly the same during the entire time I wore it. Perhaps we just don't match.

For a citrus fragrance the longevity is alright, but the scent itself seems quite weak.

Callista25

Another seemless, sophisticated, high quality laundry musk from MFK.

Petit Matin has one of the happiest citrus openings....only to disappear into nothingness. I wish it were not so expensive so I could keep spraying.

Cap Neroli by Nicolai offers a better experience for much less.

fbls_llmas

I get ADP Colonia vibes. Not really worth the price. Get something else.

Elite_Laundry

This might be my favourite fragrance to wear in the day. It lasts a long time for a fresh citrus fragrance. This fragrance inspired my username - I walk around feeling like I've got the most elite, fresh laundry.

scissorhandedly

This is basically a more expensive, more refined version of Clinique Happy. In other words, you get to smell like expensive toilet cleaner instead of a cheap one.

Sorry, this was a no for me. I had to wash it off right after I sprayed it on.

Stwmylos

Petit Matin has a beautiful opening, sparkling bright.
Soon after the very promising initial stage the fragrance takes, however, a route i am not very fond of. More specifically it goes deep into the feminine territory, so deep i am afraid i cannot wear it and simultaneously becomes sweeter and more floral. If only Petit Matin held onto its opening...

6/10

doctorjui

Perfect naming. It really represents a nice smell of a really soft early morning.

On me, it opened with likable neroli, then turned into lemony and floral scent. Dried down with beautiful ambroxan, the note I do not normally like. Well-crafted, elegance in a bottle. Want to get a FB but the performance and its price hold me back.

etinarcadia33

For me the orange blossom and white flower notes stick around a little too much to my liking... Wish it was more soapy and has more ambroxan coming though.

p.kalamaja

Very UNIQUE Peppery citrus burst with dry down into musk. Fresh. Elegant. I would classify this is a gourmand even though most people would not. If you like a fresh light but unique fragrance try this. I love MFK. GENIUS.

lavender_wind.

Beautiful, refreshing, zesty citrus white floral.
Perfect for the morning.

Just the other day I was doing a throw back to my first perfume Clinique Happy... then I realized I have the more expensive and more uplifting version of that... Petit Matin :)

I might be biased... to me it smells feminine, like a lady CEO ;) energetic, warm, sexy, fun, and forthcoming, like a fresh summer morning.

RottigrlNYC

Not a fan, much too soapy. Smells just like soap. And that really bothers me. I wouldn’t spend anywhere near the price they want for it.

Andy the Frenchy

Aldehydic citrus opening. Then appear the main players: neroli and soapy musk. The late drydown is mainly neroli and ambroxan, but will never become harsh.
Overall a simple and classic idea, blended to perfection. It’s fresh and smooth at the same time, very soothing perfect for a... Summer early morning. Reminds me of the new Zegna Italian Bergamot EDP, with the soapy effect amped up.
Projection is moderate/heavy on my skin and for sure it’s better than the Zegna’s. A big love for me!

stacia79

I find the orange blossom to be the strongest note. I can smell its sweet nectar front and center for the duration of the wear. This is subtle and inoffensive like a gentle spring morning. It almost reminds me of a child's perfume but I do mean that in a positive way. It is carefree and innocent.

ladypicky

On my skin :
Orange blossom notes is very clear
Fresh with a tiny tiny hint of sweetness.
I love it ,It's my easy everyday scent.
and for a warm summer night I layer it with Oud satin mood.
Petit Matin lasts a good 5 hours on my skin.
I would buy it again when this bottle is finished.

Marlon

Happy, light, effortless. The lady who mentioned Sprite is on spot, I think, as a positive: the lemony vibe is sweet instead of bitter. It's quite convincing though. I mean I dont find it synthetic this way, what shows the class of the perfumer.

Citrus dominant opening fades into white-floral soapiness. Mugler Cologne like soapiness.

Longevity is alright. It just stays close to the skin, as usual with MFK. It's appropriate for an office or a flight. Or any other occasion when you want to feel good but you don't care about interaction. Or even don't want any.

jytong

A sweet scent that is predominantly lemon and musk. It evoked memories of drinking Sprite... not exactly an appealing scent on me

likesgoodscents

Fresh, clean, morning sunrise. Unlike many of MFK's other fresher compositions, this has decidedly green notes. Reminds me of the smell when you step outside in the morning when it is slightly humid and there is dew on the grass.

marinaw90

Not one of my favourite MFK freshies. There is a peppery note and I have no idea where it's coming from, it's the same peppery smell that D&G Light Blue has.
Aqua Celestia is my favourite MFK citrus, sadly Petit Matin is no match for it!

William68

A classy fresh, daytime scent, I don't find this feminine like some people are claiming

mieroday

Nice, but too feminine

ellimac

If you're looking for a great dupe, Paic Citron will do the trick.

92juanjavier

This perfume has become my favorite citrus for now.
This sweet, super natural lemon scent... with that touch of orange blossom and a relaxing lavender... this makes that using it in the morning when you wake up make your day better.
I'm really in love with Mr. Kurkdjian's fragrances, this man knows what to do with his nose and his perfume collection is really exquisite, I'm delighted.
Petit Matin has a moderate but appreciable sillage and lasts more than 8 hours, I think it is a magnificent job to be a citrus perfume. I will get a bottle very soon.

Konga5000

I too am going through my sample set: This one is glorious , bright sunny and very lemon-y (in a good way). The opening is spectacular and the neroli is melding to the lemon now....there is a crispness to this one. Excellent however longevity is so/so. Reminds me of a CREED citrus that bursts out then fizzles and shrinks into a skin scent. High marks for the sunniest lemon I've ever smelled in a fragrance.

dcjimr

I think that this fragrance has allowed me to realize that I really don’t care for musk as a note. I’m not sure that musk plays nicely on my skin. I think that’s the note I’m picking up that is preventing me from loving this. Could be the hawthorn, but not really sure what that smells like. Anyway, this is obviously of outstanding quality and the lemon is gorgeous.

Mr fragance27

Right out of the bat It remind me to chanel allure edition blanche.

alanwake

I'm not a huge fan of Neroli, but I really enjoy Petit Matin especially now that summer is here. It shines beautifully in heat and radiates off the skin really elegant and gentle. Performance is great also for a freshie, probably due to the ambroxan which is executed perfectly here. There are really no complaints, other than this could only be worn during the warmer months.

marioslg3

Laundry musk only...

kndy38

Tried a 5ml sample. I like/love most of the frag from this house, but this one is too sweet and feminine for me.

It would work very well as a fresh & polite signature for a woman in the 30's on Spring and Summer.

I'll pass.

tenten

u know..i've been trying really hard to love maison francis perfumes. Baccarat rouge, while sweet and compliment-getting performs horribly in the heat. and i can't justify the price tag for that scent; it's not unique enough nor does it last long enough... Which brings me to Petit matin. at first i loved it. However, Just today, i got a whiff of myself and realized that i've had access to these notes all along (or something quite similar).. in Bath and Body works' Sea island cotton...and I'm shook! it's literally the same powdery, cottony scent with a bit of citrus.

Someone else in the reviews described it as laundry musk and they're exactly right. very reminiscent of those Glade clean linen air fresheners/ plug ins and candles etc (of which I'm obsessed btw).

I'm sorry to report this guys, but Petit Matin isn't 'the one' either

psychopomp3x

I get an overwhelming dose of high end laundry musk that makes me choke a little. Gave it away to my brother in law. I generally don't like fresh frags and I blind bought this as an experiment in going upmarket fresh. It was a big mistake. I much prefer the more masculine frags from this house like Amarys Homme.

gedlive

I have a bottle of this. I don't think it's aptly named, "early morning".
It's not bright and optimistic like Creed's Royal Water, or even Neroli Portafino.

What this is good for is longevity. It's the longest lasting citrus/ Neroli I have tried. So it's great when your going out for a day and won't be re-aplying.

You will smell good and fresh.
As a fragrance composition, it seems to lack a piquant note. Something that makes it more interesting, with some pizzas.

The citrus is smooth, and elegant; most likely because of a nice ambroxan note, that is not overdone.
MFK Aqua Celestia is their most natural bright and super refreshing citrus, but lacks the elegance of Petit Matin.

JonnyRedScents

I will start by saying, I am not a fan of typical cologne. That “generic mens cologne smell” is the furthest thing from my interest. That’s why I don’t understand when people say Petit Matin is “nothing speciall”. And there are “cheaper alternatives” but list few examples as to what these alternatives are.

Maybe they are referencing Dua or cheapies that resemble Petit Matin but come nowhere near the performance? I am unsure as I have never smelled anything quite like this. It’s just absolutely the perfect green, clean spring/summer scent with above average performance. 8+ hours on me.

I’ve smelled Mugler Cologne. I’ve smelled Creed Original Vetiver. I own JV Artisan, Gallagher Bergamust, and Dior Homme Cologne. I’ve smelled so many clean, white floral scents, and this to me is the most amazing of them all. The ambroxan note is just a steller base here. Not harsh in the least which is surprising. The lemon is also not harsh nor tart. Just smooth.

And can we talk about the orange blossom note in this? One of my absolute fave notes done here to perfection. I also love the smell of fresh lavender, nailed here perfecty as well.

Absolutely unisex, although the musky base makes it lean masculine. I still want to smell this on my lady. But I love it so much on myself. So wearable. So fantastic. Underated in my humble opinion. Versatile and up there with the best. You can’t go wrong with this scent.

sucatlord

There is something funky about Petit Matin. I don't know if it's the musk, or the hawthorn, but there's something preventing it from being mellow, and smooth. It seems relatively linear, now roughly an hour in, and I really must note how unusual that certain something is. I really don't consider this safe, or like a typical citrus. There's a peculiar depth to it.

It also doesn't strike me as an outright summer scent. It's weird, it's an orange'y spring scent. I'll have to give this another wear in high heat to see how it performs.

Good news, I suppose, is that it hasn't disappeared from my skin. Perhaps it doesn't react well with my skin. Will try again.

Undetectable after twelve hours.

Edit: Okay, I confirmed it just doesn't smell great on my skin. The scent itself is very clean, and requires extremely clean skin, in my opinion. It works fine as a summer scent -- I rescind my suggestion that it leans spring. It's actually a top 5 for summer right now. It's a nice switch up to the kinda out there AUF/ACF, but not as simple as CPLM.

Edit 2: After an 11 hour wear in sweltering 35 degree Celsius heat, in 50% humidity, the fragrance is completely gone from the back of the head but remains detectable on clothes when the nose is placed on the fabric.

An additional note regarding the scent -- it is nothing special. Let it be known. It is an excellent orange in its own right but it lacks any real depth. For what it is, it does well. But if you are looking for something transcendental, this is not it. Is it well blended, etc.? Yes. Is it head turning, certainly not. It excels in being a clean scent and nothing but. It's a safe Summer scent that'll evaporate by the high heat of the afternoon.

Absolue pour le Matin, and to an extent, Cologne pour le Matin, offer the same use case... But with an arguably more interesting note profile, certainly for the former, but the sillage and longevity issues on those are for another review. Granted, that might be the design of these high quality fragrances, but it must be said that despite their easy to wear nature in the morning, they will not last until the afternoon.

My5Scents

A beautiful, enlivening fragrance to wake up to in the morning. The perfect breakfast for the olfactory senses! It begins with a vibrant citrus and floral bouquet that smells entirely natural, clearing the head of any residual sleepiness and promoting a calm, focused state of mind. As the citrus notes subside, the elegantly light floral notes take centre stage and a very clean and refreshing lavender note then joins the delicate florals. The senses are uplifted and I now feel serenely ready to face the day’s challenges. Longevity could be better, I need a second application to take me to lunchtime.
As someone who hates mornings, this is a sensationally effective and gorgeous way to banish grogginess and face the day, the perfect adjunct to a large, freshly brewed coffee!
A beautifully conceived naturalistic fragrance, expertly blended for morning.

lulabros

My wife told me today: "you have weared this perfume again in the past". And she was right: i had tried a sample of "Straight to Heaven" by Killian a couple of years ago. It seems that Francis Kurkdjian and Sidonie Lancesseur, manage to create something very similar, at the end of the day.
Both are masterpieces though...

rbalkris

Super safe and elegant floral citrus that is a perfect summer office scent. The perfume begins with notes of lemon and lavender and moves to a middle comprising of orange blossom and hawthorn flower. Finally it settles on a powdery base of musk and ambroxan. The upside is that its elegant, nicely blended, unisex and unlikely to offend anyone. The downside is that it is not particularly unique or natural enough to justify its niche price. The perfume is unisex with moderate sillage and very good longevity. Bright, happy and generally pleasing. Enjoy!

Maimoudi

In the same ballpark as Xerjoff Nio and Le Labo Bergamote 22.
Petit Matin is however the more enjoyable out of those three and is more invigorating. While Nio doesn't shy away from its quality and offers a more authentic lemon note I still find it too authentic for me to want to wear it. The highlight on the lemon is too much for me.

Petit matin offers a perfect balance of citrus, floral and musky notes with a 5+ hours performance. The fact that it's also cheaper than its competitors makes this a no-brainer.

scentitar

A soapy clean aromatic with a clean and light floral aspect to it.

It is quite nice and mass appealing. For a niche head this is too simple, but if you love a few notes or more linear smell done right this is great for you

Perfectly unisex

5 hours longevity and fair projection, not bad for a clean and bright fragrance

A great fragrance for fan of bergamot 22 and the like

CW81

This is perfection! I adore this perfume! A fresh slightly citrusy floral, blended to complete excellence. The florals in this are exquisite and ethereal and the hawthorn (that I actually get a lot of) sweetens up the fragrance. It’s still not a sweet perfume, just the right sweetness for me. Longevity and sillage are also perfect (at least to me), lasts all day and projects well. I have absolutely nothing bad to say about this one. Lovely!

Bubbles1964

I had a feeling when I ordered a decant recently that this would be something I love, and I do. Add my name to the long list of people that adore this fragrance.

True, their are a lot of citrus forward scents, but this one is so natural and with the addition of lavender, so uniquely memorable for a citrus based scent. And PM has staying power, so it's elevated into first class citrus freshie.

The perfect warm weather scent exquisitely blended by a master perfumer, equivalent to art in a bottle.

Houdini4

Petit Matin or early morning is typical of Francis Kurkdjians style, fresh citrus top notes, with some herbal facets, and then the main heart of white florals, usually orange blossom, with a musky, woody or amber base depending on Homme or Femme or just to give some variation generally.

I wasn't a fan of Fleur du male and some of these MFK's have been a bit too heavy on the white florals. For example I wore APOM Homme yesterday and it has some peculiar notes in the opening which are quite sour and strange, that's before you even get into the neroli and orange blossom. I still quite liked it but I liked Amyris too while kinda thinking it was a little 'off' at the same time. My point being that MFK is not my usual taste and neroli and orange blossom can give off a creepy, hand cream vibe which I don't enjoy.

So with that background covered I have to clarify when orange blossom and neroli are used in the right composition they transform into some of my favourite notes. Examples from MFK, Guerlain, Mugler cologne and Acqua Viva to name a few.
Petit matin is a modern, clean musky opening with a shear masterclass in citrus which is long lasting and beautiful, hints of lavender add to the classic cologne feel which is modernised with a powdered, warm base of ambroxan which is not heavy in the slightest if you are one of these people who hate the stuff. It settles right down after projecting for an hour or so to a very low lying but very long lasting and super high quality scent. I smelled it on the wrist of the SA and it was warm, feminine and frankly just wonderful. It also gave me the opportunity to smell the opening and the drydown simultaneously, albeit on someone elses skin. On me it was fresh and the white florals and ambroxan just boosted the citrus top and the balance of elements just superb.
This is a really, really, good, bright, optimistic fragrance, I loved it.

Perfucius

I don't believe there is any Neroli in this fragrance but the blend of notes gives off a Neroli-ish effect. That is probably why it lasts so long because it's shouldered by a combination of those notes and not Neroli.

gedlive

The best thing about Petit Matin, is the performance.
It's a great Neroli fragrance, like Tom Ford Neroli Portafino; But the longevity is so much better here, than most all great Neroli fresh fragrances.

The frustrating thing with most great freshies, is they smell great but don't last; especially if your skin absorbs fragrances.
MFK, has found a way to make this last, and that's a great practical benefit to this fragrance.

Perfucius

This fragrance is not about the notes break-down in my opinion, instead, it is all about how it makes you feel through-out the day.

It's 7AM on a crisp spring day, you just took a shower and put on a freshly laundered white shirt with comfy slacks. Stepped out on the sidewalk and felt the cool caress of the morning breeze as you walked towards the al fresco cafe on the corner to grab a quick bite. As you sit at the your table sipping on your coffee, you can catch whiffs of the spring flowers in the pots outside the cafe. That's Petit Matin for you. The smell of a crisp, bright, breezy morning.

Now fast forward to 5pm, you're a bit exhausted and about to wrap up the work day. You close your eyes and take a deep breathe and as soon as you smell Petit Matin (which surprisingly is still projecting), you feel yourself transported back to that table outside the cafe where you had your breakfast earlier today.

Not a bad way to start and end the day.

hafidzummc

its spectacular!!!

synthesis

Smells like lemonade or sweet lemon tea with herbs. It's very nice and light and quite lovely. It's almost soapy to my nose and it's a very clean scent. I'm not usually into musky scents though I would wear the heck out of this in spring and summer because the musk is light and barely there. Skin scent.

I normally hate lemon in fragrances, and have always shyed away from lemon due to my experiences. They normally smell cheap and synthetic, as I've encountered in every designer.

On Petit Matin, this fragrance is spectacular. If you want a really authentic lemon note, look no further. This is hands down the best lemon note in class, and has given me hope that note all lemon fragrances are lemons.

My only problem with this, as with many freshies, is the performance. From my sample, I only got about 4 hours before I could no longer smell this on my skin. Perhapse, as with Grand Soir, the performance is improved when sprayed from a bottle, so that my review on performance with a grain of salt.

OH GOD----

this is one of the best citrus ever made...

to me this, Nio, and citric by santa eulalia are the 3 best EVER..

stitcherista

Smelled fresh and sprightly in the bottle, so I gave it an hour. Couldn't wash it off my wrist fast enough. Overpowering lemongrass type scent that doesn't suit me at all. I'm with chweintr on this one, it reminded me of industrial cleaner. I like citrus scents, but this one was too brazen, too brassy, and too LOUD. Oh yes, and very much overpriced.

dsty

Petit Matin was an unexpected joy for me; I'd never heard of this, and knowing the high prices of this house and seeing how the listed notes aren't my personal favourites, I probably never would have taken the initiative to test it anyway. But I got a sample as an extra in a split from a nice Fragrantica member, and it was love at first sniff. Such an unexpected delight, it literally put a smile on my face when I first sprayed it on, and I've kept thinking about it ever since, and used up the sample in less than a week. Which is rare for me - I do a lot of sampling and end up loving many scents, but this sort of infatuation doesn't happen very often.

I still don't know what is is about this simple, bright combination of orangle blossom and lemon that makes me so happy. Like others have mentioned, I guess it's basically just a high quality, no-fuss interpretation of a well-known concept; nothing special in and of itself, but so exceptionally well executed that it makes me want to bathe in it. I also love the name and the narrative behind it, and of course the approach of spring might also be making me more receptive - I never thought I needed a classical cologne in my life, but this spring I don't want to be without Petit Matin, and I'm putting the rest of my wish list on hold for it.

chweintr

I like a bunch of MFK scents but this one has a sharp industrial bathroom cleaner opening that lasts for a quite a while before settling into an inoffensive but totally uninspiring laundered hotel towel scent.

Tosef

Now, I'm usually not a citrus scent lover (except for Xerjoff's Nio and BOIS 1920's Oltremare) but boy, do I love Petit Matin. Whenever I feel like not really wanting to start my day and go to the office, I put this on and it's so uplifting. The big plus here also is, that it is one of the rare citrus frags that actually lasts a good amount of time.

chrissychrispants

I have no complaints with this - it's easy, bright, citrusy, sparkling - but for what I get I can't justify the price.

For me, the drydown is basically orange blossom, so in future I will get something similar but cheaper.

kentabatinga

Concord 100% with previous review: this has been done before a lot. It's nothing new. The same fresh commercial scent found at your local run of the mill store. There's nothing niche about it. It smells pretty good though, but there are $20-$40 offerings out there doing the same. Save your money.

mmcdonald36

I just can't give high praise to something like this. I'm sure it's very well-blended and there is something unique in there, but to my nose, this fragrance has been done hundreds of times before. Buy yourself some acqua di parma or 4711 and you'll be fine

Esmay

Smells like 4711, overpriced, poor longevity. Save your money...

Fraggie2100

smells like a hairspray !....

Sabretoothkitten

I like this even though I smell grapefruit not listed in the notes. Green and citrusy. Reminds me of Gap So Pink but not as synthetic and sweet.

spirit966

The more I wear this, the more I feel like Petit Matin is a modern take on Green Irish Tweed. They don't smell alike, but they both evoke the same lemony, citrus and dewy vibe.

Understated and elegant.
Beautiful!

Also has similarity to Jardin d'Amalfi, but that one has the tartness of the apple note. Crazy expensive though.. And.. poor longevity

blonc

Petit Matin is easy to overlook because it's so easy going.

This scent is fresh and clean. It falls into a category of a million other fresh and clean scents. If that's all you want, there's no reason to spend this much. And, yet, I bought a bottle the first time I smelled it. Why?

Because Petit Matin is exquisite.

This scent smells like a perfect spring morning when there's still dew on the grass, just as the sun starts shining bright and the birds sing. It's joyful.

I could tell you that it opens with lots of citrus, with some florals laid over a wonderful warm musk, but what I'd rather tell you is that it smells happy. It's not artificially happy, like Clinique's Happy For Men, though that is a great cheapie. No. Petit Matin is the sort of happy where you genuinely feel great and look forward to the dawn of a new day.

My only complaint about Petit Matin is the name. I wish MFK had named it Grand Matin, because that's what it smells like to me.

This smells great.
It wears very well.
I recommend it enthusiastically.

joseffgabriel

This is so calming especially when its hot and windy. It will make you think of the best summer vacation.

Johnnyacl

Ok, my take on this: to my nose, Petit Matin is a citrusy, floral and musky scent. Honestly, I don´t think it´s similar to TF Neroli Portofino or Creed´s Jardin d´Amalfi. In my opinion, it has similarities with Aqua Universalis and Absolue por le Matin. Seems like it´s a mixture of these two previous creations. I think this is great!!!

dzingunyte

What a beautiful fragrance! After 15 min it reminds me a lot of Giorgio Armani Acqua di Gioia ❤️ i love ADG. Simply perfect for warm days! Love at the first sniff!!

نمیدونم چرا تو نمودار پخش و ماندگاری رو پایین و متوسط زده

Jomdaley

Yes it's a modern take on a classic Eau de cologne, yes it's performance is excellent, but the most important part (the smell) is a boooooring mix of the two most overused notes. Lemon. Lavender.

Why couldn't it be goji berries? Or melon? Or passionfruit? Or kiwi fruit? Or grapes? Or anything else to make it the least bit interesting?
At this price point I don't see the point when there's so many alternatives that are just as good for a quarter of the cost.

cutetrang

Fresh, citrusy scent without special longevity nor sillage. This is a pass for me. I am sure you can get it cheaper. Nothing special. However, this is a crowd pleaser for citrus-fresh scent fans. Could be easily gifted to people who appreciate linear and simple scents.

poor longevity and sillage make this absolutely not FB worthy.

--

Tried this now in hotter weather and unfortunately it is not so refreshing but rather citrusy-sharply overpowering, also for my colleagues in the office. It reminds me of citrus toilet cleanser in the heat.

krsams1

I'm really not into bright, citrus fragrances but this one is really special. I only got it in the fragrance wardrobe and at first smell I knew I was buying a bottle.

gedlive

Ladylva review below is right on.
This is a very familiar scent like 4711, Neroli Portafino, Guerlain Imperial, but done so well with high quality notes.

This is the most masculine of the MFK citrusy floral musks.
I've been looking for the best citrus, white flower cologne, and this may be it. It's bright, but not to fizzy, refined. It is an orange blosom, not Neroli, alcohol distilled, so it's a bit more floral than Neroli, but the lavender, hawthorn, amber keep it leaning masculine.
The most amazing thing about this one is the longevity is solid for a cologne, finally!
A great smelling Summertime cologne you can put on and go out for the day, and you get a solid 5-6 hours.

This is very fresh, yet there is something solid in the base notes that gives this fragrance a substantive fortitude.
This is the most masculine of the sharred MFK citrusy florals.
There is an earthy element, a beautiful herbal lavender making an accord with the orange blosom and a hint of amber. The Amber is not distinct but it adds a bit of weight to the fragrance. This is not an airy transparent "anti perfume". There seems to be a verbena note, as all the freshness is not comming from the lemon, but from orange or lemon leaves, reminding me of the freshness in Creed's Green Irish Tweed.

One recommendation. A fragrance that I would have called early morning because it's so bright and hopeful is Creed's "Royal Water".

Francis Kurkdjian is my favourite perfumer, and almost all of his creations for MFK are true gems, although they are not exceptionally original: instead, he usually takes a well known idea and then shows everybody how it's done. Hence his creations are quite mainstream and familiar, only ten times better than anything that's currently on offer. Take for example Petit Matin: this is a unisex citrus fragrance, built around the notes of lemon, orange blossom and lavender on a musky base - nothing special, and yet it is so beautiful in its simplicity and remarkably powerful that it absolutely surpases all other fragrances in the same 'everyday citrus' category. I love it!

miss mills

Oh, this is more my speed. Am sampling a bunch of MFK perfumes thanks to my very generous friend no-fi and this might be one of my favourites so far. A sweet blast of fresh lemon then orange, more rind than juice, and oh so green, the waxy citrus leaves that have just been scratch and sniffed, oh my. Then ambroxan is added and this stuff just got REAL. Almost chilli pepper inclined, a sizzler of a perfume in a very unique way. This is more sticky summer late afternoon than early morning dew for me but that's just my interpretation (and possibly the different climate here in the southern hemisphere).

It's an "I'm just gonna sit here being slightly unusual until you notice that you just can't get enough of me, I'm so interesting" kind of smell. I can't get my nose off my wrist! This one just keeps giving. It's a long way from toppling APOM Femme off my want list but it's been an awesome experience! If clean and slightly gritty is your thing, give this a whirl!

Pianomelody

A simple perfume, evoking the calm early morning hours. The orange blossom is very intense, and lemon gives radiance.... I like the lavender here,it gives a sense of freshness and relaxation.! musk gives the fragrance a clean and clear wake! It is among my favorite MFK, but it is still a nice fragrance!

Sillage: 6.5./10
Longevity: 7./10
Scent: 8./10

Overall: 8.5/10

solideogloria58

My favorite MFK fragrance, as compared to Aqua Universalis, APOM pour femme, and Aqua Vitae. Smells FRESH and clean and hopeful and amazing, like you want to do more in life, and to explore the world! Very high quality, dry down is musk, which is very strong on my skin depending on the day.

philball

I like this, another of Francis Kurkjian's citrus florals that he does so well. It's bright, lively and clean, with an effervescent sweetness and anchored by some masterful musk. Prominent notes for me are the citrus tones of lemon, the warmth of ambroxan, the clean musk and some florals to soften it out. There's also a note that I don't recognise, which I'm guessing is the hawthorn. The musk and ambroxan work particularly well here, bringing the brighter, sharper top notes to heel.

The more I wear this fragrance, the more I appreciate it and enjoy it. It's got a slight greeness to it that I particularly like. I'm surprised it doesn't get better votes for performance. I struggle with longevity on many fragrances but I find this to be not only long lasting but it has great silage too. It's pretty much straight down the line in terms of unisex.

Overall, a very competent fragrance that I very much enjoy.

ngtam_env86

Blindbought it and now disappointed. Longevity is weak, sillage is poor, scent is so so. Not worth money

no-fi

Petit Matin is among Francis Kurkdjian's best. It opens with a beautiful orange blossom that is greener and more herbal than it is sweet. The note is bolstered by an excellent musk base, which Kurkdjian does so well. It's deeper and less laundry-like than his Aqua line of scents.

Overall, Petit Matin is competent, lovely but ultimately unnecessary for me, because I already have a similarly good orange blossom scent in Diptyque's Eau Des Sens. Still, it's well worth a sniff.

harpermae

Eh, I'm not crazy about this. I do get the TF Neroli Portofino vibe, but I also get something akin to Desitin diaper cream. Im glad I only have a sample. Grand Soir, on the other hand, is totally amazing.

Buysblind

Petit Matin is yet another offering from MFK in the "clean white citrus" genre. By this point, you're probably aware of the consistent quality MFK offers so the question now becomes, "Why this one? What sets this apart from his previous releases?" It's a question worth answering, as we now have Aqua Universalis, Aqua Vitae, and Cologne Pour Le Matin, not to mention some "Forte" versions as well. Whether you're trying to decide which one to choose between them, or just wondering if Petit Matin is worth adding to your collection which already includes the others, it's not unreasonable to ask, "Is this different enough to warrant a purchase?"

First of all, as far as its strength, Petit Matin is probably a little stronger than Aqua Vitae and Aqua Universalis. It's no screamer, but it's a bit more solid than the ethereal musk of Universalis and the lighter, delicate structure of Aqua Vitae. If those are both considered "light" fragrances, then Petit Matin can be considered "moderate." However, in terms of strength it should be noted that Aqua Vitae Forte is much more powerful, and certainly the most powerful in the whole group. Universals Forte also has a stronger presence than Petit Matin, so in terms of their strength, I would rank them from lightest to heaviest: AU, AV, Cologne Pour le Matin, PM, AUF, AVF. So you see, Petit Matin ranks right in the middle. While it's certainly not a strong fragrance, it has some body to it, a little weight that will make sure you know it's there while you're wearing it.

More importantly, Petit Matin focuses primarily on citrus and lavender, with the musk playing more of a supporting role and the ambrox giving everything its patented marine-sweet sheen. The Italian Lemon is the big note here, and it's paired with a very clean, crisp lavender. The lemon is bright, but avoids smelling completely realistic and more like a lemon designed for a fragrance, which is a positive thing in this case. It smells very good, but not like you're wearing the fruit itself. Petit Matin probably resembles a traditional cologne more than any of the others. Personally, it reminds me of a higher quality Lanvin L'Homme, Alberto Morillas' underrated workhorse for men. Therefore, while Aqua Universalis focuses on mostly on white musk and its pairing with a blend of lily-of-the-valley and lemon, creating a very ethereal, "white" impression, Petit Matin is more directly centered around citruses, and is paired with a more hearty, traditional lavender. Universals Forte is just a beefed up extension of the white floral theme (and probably the most feminine as a result). Aqua Vitae in comparison to Petit Matin is softer, more floral and possessing a sweeter tone overall. Vitae seems focused on a soft, sweet mandarin note, supported by vanilla, tonka, and jasmine. None of these notes are apparent in Petit Matin, which in contrast feels sharper, crisper, and once again, more reminiscent of a traditional men's cologne. While Vitae seems best suited for occasions, Petit Matin feels better suited for work and every day situations. Aqua Vitae Forte feels even more formal and opulent than Aqua Vitae, and in this sense is much more dressed up than Petit Matin, also heavier and more attention-grabbing. The two are actually very, very different in the end.

What to make of all this...

If you look at all of this together, you'll see that Petit Matin actually has its own place in MFK's white citrus continuum, and a very important one as well. It's the daily-style wear, every-day cologne in the bunch; the least dressed up of the three (or 5 depending on how you look at it), and probably the most consistently functional. Aqua Universalis is great for wearing when you don't want to really know that you're wearing anything. It creates a wonderful impression of fresh, clean laundry and makes one feel clean and well-groomed. For this reason I love it. But it's also rather ethereal and "white." We often want something with a little more presence and bite, to get moving about our day and to feel energized. Petit Matin offers that, through its emphasis on Italian Lemons and their pairing with a heartier, though also clean and polished lavender accord. And finally, Aqua Vitae and its stronger half, while smelling wonderful, do not possess the down-to-earth simplicity of Petit Matin and are therefore not nearly as functional on a day-to-day basis. In the end, I must conclude that Petit Matin is not only well-executed and a very worthy addition to MFK's lineup, but also perhaps the most functional addition to the group.

Finally, to address Petit Matin in relation to Cologne Pour Le Matin, in my opinion, there's no comparison--Petit Matin is much, much better. CPLM is my least favorite in this entire group. I find it's awkward--at times artificially powdery and plastic-like--other times smelling "kitchen spicy," with overly sugary citruses and even a certain poorly placed dirty cumin note floating around. Petit Matin has no missteps in this regard and the two should really not be compared saved for their namesakes.

I recommend sampling Petit Matin. It's very nice. The only reason I'm not recommending it as a blind buy is simply because it's in a genre (citrus colognes) that's very common, so you might already own some that you like or have smelled others you're considering buying, not to mention it's pretty expensive. It's worth seeing where Petit Matin lands in relation to others before committing to buying it, but I will say this--it's hard to dislike Petit Matin. Kurkdjian did a very nice job with it. Thumbs up.

EDIT: I forgot to add: Some of you may also be familiar with Absolue Pour Le Matin. This is not the same fragrance or even very similar to it. APLM has a very powdery quality to it due to the florals and is also more feminine as a result. Petit Matin is not powdery at all and smells more masculine.

For me this smells like an Spanish baby cologne !

Sparkling, soft, floral sweetness to offset the citrus and lavender; I love the well-balanced harmony FK has created with this beauty. I prefer this to his Aqua Universalis, which gets a little soapy on my skin. Silage is moderate and longevity excellent, over 12 hours. That's exceptionally good for a a lighter daytime fragrance. That musk and ambroxan give it some heft.

The vey first seconds are pure citrus. But then I get a musky note that resembles (to my nose) rubber or plastic.
It's actually bothersome, I wish that note would go away. The sillage seems to be minimum, but that's pretty standard for this house.
I'm a big fan of MFK, especially Aqua Universalis.
But I'm tired of spending money on fragrances that don't deliver. Yes, I know, they are renowned noses, masterpieces, quality ingredients... But in the end a perfume is not a necessity per se. The whole world could live without perfumes. So if Im going to spend + $300 the least I expect is something remarkable and outstanding,
Otherwise I may well stick to a CK fragrance and be happy with the poor sillage and longevity.
