Café Chantant by Nobile 1942 is a Floral Woody Musk fragrance for women and men. Café Chantant was launched in 2013. The nose behind this fragrance is Mathieu Nardin. Top notes are Sour Cherry, Star Anise and Laurels; middle notes are Heliotrope and Iris; base notes are Vanilla, Benzoin, Musk and Patchouli.

A cheerful buzz, burns of laughter, ladies in stunning evening gowns whose chypre perfumes are blended with gentlemen’s tobacco, ready to enjoy the show from their table in the front row. No matter what is their social status. The enjoyment of the pleasure, a genuine joie de vivre towards the end of the nineteenth century, following a wave of optimism, regenerating the great European capitals.

First the season of the Parisian Café Chantant then the shows influenced the Italian artists. Writers and artists of great fame became hunters of the most popular Italian Café Chantant. Even ladies regularly attending the Cafes had fun by imitating the gestures and clothing of those women who drove their men so crazy ... the Sciantose. A full-Italian folk, in which flavor delivers pleasure to everyone.

At first spray the star anise is so strong, it reminds me of cough sirups based on licorice, anise and propolis.

As Café Chantant dries down it becomes more powdery, but neither the heliotrope nor iris is detectable. Drydown is medicinal, which might be due to the laurel and patchouli. I’m not getting any cherry or vanilla at all, even after several hours. Yet, it has that lovely vintage powdery vibe.

The powdery vibe is incense-like, reminding me of the incense-powder-vibe found in heavier Guerlain Fragrances like Shalimar EdT (although these fragrances smell nothing alike).

Café Chantant doesn’t smell bad per sé - but I expected something sweet, like a floral vanilla dessert. Something to go with a cup of coffee.

To me, Café Chantant smells like tincture and incense. Like something a bohemian doctor might prescribe.

No-brainier. I'd bathe in this is if weren't for that pesky patchouli :(

hotrodangel

At first I thought this was a powerhouse vanilla-amaretto with very little else to recommend it, but it is actually quite strange and lovely in the drydown. More delicate and blended than I gave it credit for. The heliotrope note is a star here. I haven’t worn this yet, but I can see it being a big compliment-getter. It’s more winter-spring than autumn-winter for me. Really lovely, comforting, warm yet fresh fragrance

Anyone selling a full bottle / partial bottle in the EU, please dm me :) Thank you!

mirrorghost

this opens with a big powdery dose of heliotrope (which i love) followed by cherry, vanilla, benzoin and iris. sweet, almondy and cozy with a lipsticky note from iris, i think. this is almost borderline too sweet for me, but the iris and heliotrope help it, i think. i love powdery scents so that part is a-ok with me. come to think of it, it's a lot like cherry chapstick. i get the cuir beluga thing too. glad i got to try this cozy and fun perfume.

StackMaintain

This is a phenomenal frag. Picture cuir beluga with cherry from guerlain l'homme ideal edp👌🏿👌🏿😍

jessr777

The powdery note makes it skew a tad mature for me, but overall a very lovely, warm fragrance.

aniton

This smells like a makeup bag, as somebody already noticed. To me it's a nondescript mix of powderiness, a bit of this, a bit of that, cherries - yes but faint. Sillage is quite intimate.

coco1981

Utterly divine - very similar to Guerlain Cuir Beluga but with a delicious juicy cherry note that lasts until the drydown. Not medicinal - the kind of cherry you'd put in a pastry. Oof.
Sweet, soft, powdery, vanilla cozy heaven. I'm a patchouli-phobe and I don't sense it here. Just beautiful!

twoski

Vanilla with a little freshness from the star anise and a slight cherry coke vibe from the heliotrope and cherry notes.

A little too sweet and powdery for my liking. A delicate smelling femme-leaning scent.

For something with a little more edge i'd suggest Rouge Smoking, which leans harder into the cherry cola aspect.

Karina8

At start to me it smells like a cherry coke but it dissipates to a medicinal note with hints of sweet iris.
Need to test it more, for now I don’t know how to feel I didn’t expect this type of scent.

Mackinacfleurs

Well cave in and got myself a bottle of Cafe Chantant. This is very close to Cuir Beluga and a great addition to my collection. It is different, abstract and eclectic compared to most of the fragrances released today. At the opening you get the beautiful Sour Cherry note front and center; after a few minutes you start to smell a subtle Anis and Heliotrope note, with the Powdery note staying present from beginning to end. There, at the end is where the vanilla shines and to me, where the beauty of this fragrance is. With a strong projection and long sillage. If you are like me and not too fond of Patchouli, do not worry, nothing harsh here, as a matter of fact, almost imperceptible. BTW must be said, do not be fooled by the name, there is no coffee here, but the pastries and coziness of a Cafe, a must for cooler days.

Glyph

This seems to me very well named, because it reminds me of a vanilla-flavored cappuccino you might get at a European café on a frosty day, with the cherry and star anise and heliotrope (which smells like almond) smelling distantly of lightly flavored pastries in the cafe's case, made to go with the coffee.

This is a nice gourmand for people like me who, if they want gourmands at all, want them to be milder, more delicate, and more introverted, and not overwhelmingly sweet. A gentle fragrance for gentle moods.

Teima

Oh what a beauty ! Love at first snif. To me it is gourmand cherry with lots of vanilla and sugared almond and I smell chocolate I don’t know why. Perhaps for the soft and inoffensive patchouli. Drydown is a dream cosy and warm chocolaty vanilla and I can still smell a soft sugary cherry. It gives me vibes of Rahat Loukoum from Lutens although they are different. Lovely fragrance easy to wear.

markvel

I get a decant of this perfume in hope to justify my cravings for Guerlain's Cuir Beluga and it's good substitute in my opinion.
Opening is like 70% of Cuir Beluga then after 10mins it's 30-40% of CB mostly because cherry/fruity notes get more prominent and after like 1 hour in the dry down it's 80-90% of CB. Cherry fades away and you are left with beautiful leathery (in this case probably is benzoin) vanilla. I was disappointed at first but then in the end I was really surprised that this perfume did a turn into right direction for me. 😍 Probably I will get a full bottle of Cafe Chantant.

ForTheLoveOfFrag

I very much want a full bottle of this for the coming cool seasons! I think it would work very early in spring when there is still that chill in the air. To me this very much leans feminine. It doesn't read too powdery on me, which is good I'm not a fan of powdery frags. It's a little spicey, a little sweet, a little confection powder (no talcum) and just all around lovely! I wouldn't say it's mature, but I don't see a teenager wanting to wear this. It has a similar vibe of Zoologist's Harvest Mouse but they don't smell the same. That's more nature oriented. If you want a cozy cool weather fragrance that's different than the current trends and offerings, give this a try!

It's an easy wear, inoffensive but I don't know that I'd call it "blind buy safe" though.

almondluver1

Right away, this reminded me of Dior’s Hypnotic Poison — it’s sweet, powdery/irisy, almondy, vanillic, and playdohy. However, there’s a noticeable sweet & slightly medicinal cherry that remains throughout that makes it smell sweeter and more fun, though it’s definitely still powdery & playdohy. So imagine Hypnotic Poison but with a cough syrupy cherry twist.

I love this!! I’ve smelled tons of fragrances that share the same sort of DNA to Hypnotic Poison (JHAG MMMM, Kenzo Amour, Police to be Rose Blossom, Babe Powder, Valentino Poudree, Zara Femme) and I can definitely say that this is my favorite out of the bunch cuz of how unique the cherry made this perfume smell (at least as unique as it can be with this type of DNA).

Sunnydai

I agree with Happyme2009 imagine sitting in
a cafe eating a delicious pastry with lots of powdered vanilla sugar with cherry 🍒 with a vase of iris and Heliotrope on the table mmm it's beautiful! I love Nobile 1942 fragrances I already have 4 in my collection and ready to add more 🫶🏾

Happyme2009

This is delicious. Despite the name, I don't smell coffee, but rather the pastries that accompany a fine cappuccino in a fancy cafe. In particular, this smells like a fluffy cherry filled danish cake. It is sweet, but not overly so, the sour cherry preserve is mixed with powdered vanilla sugar, and the pasty is soft, flakey, floury. The composition is simple and perfect; although it doesn't sound unique, I have nothing similar in my entire 350+ collection. The silage is moderate to soft, with pretty good lasting power. It is totally feminine, and most likely better suited for fully grown ladies. It's lovely and very gourmand, without the typical fruitchouli or orange blossom. Wonderful and different.

HecateZeusIsis

I smell a lot of patchouli and powdery notes, I think it is the bay(laurels)...Sweet cherry and benzoin. It's a very busy smell and I don't think its for everyone....I blind bought a bottle, wouldn't suggest it. Going to keep it till winter to see if its better then, and if the fragrance macerates at all.

Malleable

Cherry baby powder. I see how this could be lovely on some people, but it's not playing nice with my skin.

ava96

It does kind of smell like a candle. It's not really my cup of tea and I don't think it develops on my skin how it would on someone else's. I think it can be a beautiful fragrance, but just not for me.

Kizzyb93

Smells like a candle I’m Glad i never blind bought it

Aveline

A powdery makeup bag fragrance. The vanilla is what's separating it from most in this genre, making it a more playful boudoir. Like a more decidedly femme Rogue Smoking. There's just a little play-doh. As it sits on the skin, I get more of a suggestion of tobacco, which I'm assuming is the very inoffensive musk and patchouli blend. Sits pretty close to the skin, which is probably a good thing with this type of scent. Unfortunately I couldn't smell any cherry or anise, which is ultimately what I came here for. Still, it's a cozy type of powder that I can imagine myself craving from time to time.A like, not a love.

perfume_angel

I’m on a nobile kick right now, and I blind bought so many of them because I am obsessed with this brand and 6 fragrances so far did not disappoint! ❤️

This is a gorgeous fluffy and marshmallowy cherry and vanilla fragrance. When you first spray it, you are hit with a blast of a beautiful cherry that isn’t too sweet or too sour. It’s just perfect! It also has a very strong base of vanilla, and it almost has an almondy creamy marzipan quality to it! That marzipan is probably coming from the heliotrope. When it starts to dry down, you get some powderiness, but it is more of marshmallow powder dust than baby powder or cosmetic powder.

This has become one of my favourite cherry fragrances because it is SO unique and smells nothing like any other cherry fragrance to me. It’s like an almond and vanilla flavoured whipped cream topped with cherries ontop. It’s also like vanilla flavoured jelly beans and cherry flavoured jelly beans mixed together. Yummy!🍒🍦

Also, this is super lactonic, fluffy and powdery. It smells amazing! If you love cherry fragrances try this one out because you will not be disappointed!

And the longevity and sillage is above average.

pisinoe

I don't know what I'm smelling here at all but it's a very pleasant, understated, kind of unique but not too much scent. It's very well blended and mature. My mom, one the pickiest and moodiest Gemini you'll ever meet, fell in love at first sniff and has already stolen my decant and told me to order her a bottle right away because she no longer wishes to go on with life without smelling like this. It's subtle, it's not cloying, it's very inoffensive.

thescented1

I just blind bought this from Luckyscent which carries the 15ml for only $26. Very nice. Not too powdery. The cherry is there, but not in a loud way like others. So well blended. Very pleased with this blind buy. It's truly worth the large bottle, but I have so many fragrances, I don't need more large bottles. Was so happy to find this mini gem at such a nice price. Luckyscent also carries 3 others of the Nobile line in mini.

AnastasiaGostieva

Powdery, soft vanilla perfume with some unusual fruity notes: cherry and pear maybe. Fruits are gone in 10-15 mins and it transforms into a comfy cosmetic scent with good performance. Dries down to very tender and musky (almost marshmallow) vanilla. I love it, it’s not sugary sweet but has this elegant kinda chef pastry touch.

VikingWoman

To much vanilla and patchouli. Too heavy and cloyingly sweet. I can detect most of the notes, but they die off due to the afore meantioned notes.

Baroqu3

I went to Javoy today and tried this and at first spray I got this realistic greeness that I didn’t like, it smells like green (laurel) stems freshly cut. This is COMPLEX! It takes you on a real journey, morphing along the way from dry, green with not a ounce of sweetness to a beautiful realistic cherry smell, vanilla, almond, white leather, slightly powdery iris and sweet nutty heliotrope and vanilla. It’s like Cuir Beluga but after that it turns into Ani. Those who know and love those fragrances would love this. Even in the bath, I could smell it strongly and after I came out of the bath. I had it from 12 today and now it’s 23:00pm. Definitely going back to buy it!!!! Javoy has an amazing collection of nearly all the niche perfumes!

Mizmalibu

Lovely sweet cherries with a lightly leathery feel. I see a lot of people comparing this to Guerlain’s Cuir Beluga, and it does have a soft leathery note, but to me it leans a bit more towards Bois d’Arménie with its sweet benzoin base. Lively, sexy and warm, I think the image was captured perfectly by the perfumer. It is well suited for colder weather

ladolcemae

Tried this bc im on the hunt for a cuir beluga dupe. Spoiler: this ain’t it. On first spray the scent is pleasant, sweet, vanillic, but not showing any signs of Cuir beluga’s deep leather note. Tried this on skin before leaving the shop; after about 10 mins i got this weird powdery scent, that reminded me immediately of an effervescent medicine that i hated as a kid; a greyish powder that tasted like it smelt: like medicinal , polluted mud. And this note just kept getting around, playing with a creamy vanilla and a touch of bitter cherry. It may be the anis, a note i dont get along with ? Anyways, the perfume falls flat. Pls try before buying.

Edit: its a little over 2h, the medicinal note is gone and im getting a bit of suede or leather. Not bad... might not throw it away yet.

dianaelz.1

very sweet and cozy vanilla with cherry/anise note. i would say this is a gourmand perfume with great lasting power.
for winter only...9/10

cocofluff

I wish I could smell this one. The notes seems divine. But I can't smell anything but mild sweetness. So confused. -

Annabear

No cherries, just delicious nougat and vanilla in a powder bomb. Average projection, I personally love it and would drink it if I could.

Bubbles1964

I did not like the opening—the initial 30 minutes—and I squarely blame that on the cherry note. Too sweet and too synthetic, I don’t think it works in this composition. I noticed that Shunkoin is upvoted as similar, and I agree. There’s a powdery vanilla and heliotrope connection between the two perfumes. But Shunkoin is smoother and more realistic, a blend that works better on my skin.

I also have owned Cuir Beluga in the past, and that perfume is much classier. Beside the absent cherry note, there’s a suede note missing from Cafe Chantant. Overall this is a firm pass.

katheryne_art

I get a very strong cherry note in the opening, which is sour but sweet at the same time. Then it becomes just a very powdery skin-like scent. Unfortunately, most of Nobile 1942 perfumes I tried doesn't last, doesn't project, besides of La Danza Delle Libellule, that one is one of my favourite perfume ever!

marnielin

Cough syrupy

Cherry_Darling

I love the notes of this, and the idea of cherries, but it is just the opening where they make an appearance. Then it becomes a beautiful, powdery balsamic. Very soft, almost a dragee gourmand all that's missing is a hint of almond. Great scent, but I am feeling that it's a little lacking on intensity.

AndySmellsGreat

Interesting reading reviews regarding the cherry.

For me there is only a mere whisper of cherry.

The powderiness is also exaggerated.

No, this is about the balsamic smooth sweet vanilla, just a touch of dirt to make it gourmand and unisex and nose to skin with a deep inhale you can just pick the tiniest whiff of cherry.

Strong, lush and impressive!

Emorandeira

The opening of this fragance is gorgeous! It is like a cherry liqour mixed with the smell of the cherry bubblegums that i had when i was a child. The cherry is very noticeable, but totally different to other cherry fragances, for example Lost cherry by Tom Ford, which is much more gourmand and sweeter,; intense cherry by montale, much more floral; or B by Blood concept, woodier and more alcoholic. Café chantant is a very subtle fragance... Sweet but elegant. Soon the cherry liquor goes down and It appears a more noticeable laurel and a powdery flower vibe, with the iris and the heliotrope as main actors. The sweet background with the vanilla, benzoin and a very subtle musk give to the perfume some more intensity and increase a bit his longevity. The Woody character of the patchouli is for me very very subtle as Well. The dry down makes me remember the Air freshner that the company blanco (already Closed) used in his stores.

The performance is just average. Average longevity and not very strong sillage, what gives more versatility to this fórmula and makes this perfume suitable for everyday use un almost any condición. I find It unisex but i think that probably women Will use It more than men.

This is really pretty, but it's not anything new or groundbreaking. Comparing it to the other fragrances I'm sampling now, it's just a bit too safe and boring. More mass appealing than interesting.

The cherry in this smells like a cheap, plasticky cherry chapstick scent. Maybe because of the vanilla and florals. Overall, it's not that I don't like it but there's much exciting and well performing options for $135.

LadyIva

This fragrance is sweet. Very, very sweet. It consists of vanilla, tart cherries, benzoin and more vanilla. Not my thing.

SailorV

This opens up with super-sweet and juicy cherries on a base of fine powdery vanilla. It's very much a cherry-almond and heliotrope scent, but one of the more elegant ones. The iris note gives it a ladylike, dry undertone that keeps it from becoming too sweet. I also get a hint of licorice from the star-anise. It's very feminine in my opinion and a bit linear, but comforting and pretty.

Café Chantant gets compared to Guerlain Cuir Beluga and I can totally see why. They have a lot in common with the vanilla, the powdery notes and the heliotrope. But there are differences, too. Café Chantant is much fruitier. While Cuir Beluga balances its sweetness with suede, Café Chantant does so with sour cherry and has a more youthful vibe. CC has a louder opening while CB has a deeper and more refined drydown.
Because in my opinion CB is such a perfect scent and the better version of this concept, CC pales in comparison, but it's a lovely scent in its own right. Also, it's the less pricey one out of these two when it comes to the large bottles, so it's definitely worth a try.

globato85

I am a sucker for cherry fragrances. I had high expectations for Cafe Chantant. Unfortunately I was disappointed because I didn't really get cherry, more of a powdery vanilla. The fragrance is nice, decent longevity. It just wasn't the dark cherry scent I was looking for.

Helenka_Pinda

A lovely baked cherry pie with vanilla, and something that reminds me of a WONDERFUL cherry tobacco that I smell sometimes, always being smoked by interesting old men. I just love this fragrance. It's got a comforting gorgeousness about it that makes you want to curl up with a good book and a nice glass of wine. It's a happy fragrance, but also very deep. Mmmmmmmmmmmmm

TeaforTwo

Meh. Vanilla and cherry. And that's it. There's nothing wrong with this, but it bores me, and being bored by a perfume is probably worse than disliking a perfume. I almost wish this was more trashy, with a bigger cherry, a louder vanilla, at least it'd be memorable.

oksaoksa

• This perfume goes together with Ambre 114 on one shelf as a Great Vintage sense perfumes, that are good in a context with that time warderobe, theater, moulin rouge, opera, old cinema, cafe's, vintage stores, library etc.
• Would wear in some vintage party.

arvinsayyadi

it's so lovely both projection and its sillage its a night frag. i think i love it so gourmand

kl99

A classic light smoking vanilline with a touch of cherry, nice but nothing to die for.

Coucoucath

On me it starts with vanilla pod, literally the pod, where the seeds are still inside of it with cherries. I expected more sour cherries but I'm getting sweet, as if baked cherries. After a short while vanilla is out of the pod, so to speak :) After about an hour I feel benzoin. I can barely detect the flowers, I don't get anise either, also it slowly stops radiating, it gets closer and closer to the skin. On the dry down there is vanilla, very sweet, patchouli and musk. Benzoin is gone. After 5 hours it is very faint and close to the skin but it is hanging in there for a loong time.

Salvas

Café Chantant is very gourmandish. It smells pastery and vanilla. Nothing synthetic, only high quality ingredients. Smelling this can make you feel happy because it has the best gourmand notes, blended beautifully together.
It reminds me the smell of crape batter, rhum ans sugar, that you could smell in a foire or carnival, with all this people around, and the smell of party in the air.
Cafe Chantant has one of the best and natural gourmand smell but for me this frangrance is only nice for what it. It's more an experience than a fragance. When I spray I have to put my nose on it if I want to smell something and after 10 seconds the scent has almost completely disappeared. Talking about longevity or sillage would have no sens. A "snapchat" kind of scent :)

fighter

Interesting unisex fragrance. There's a kind of smokiness in it. It reminds me slightly to Rihanna's Rebelle. Way too expensive by the way.

Scarbie

I got a sample of this in a perfume order and I fell in love! This scent is so beautiful! When you first spray it the cherries just hit you and not in a medicinal cough syrup way. I have other perfumes that have cherry in it and nothing compares to this. The cherries settle down after about 10 minutes and the vanilla, benzoin, heliotrope, and iris become more prominent. It is a very rich and creamy vanilla - not boring at all. I can smell the star anise but it is not in your face. The fragrance becomes the tiniest bit powdery but I like powdery scents so this is a winner for me!

dagmy

Creamy vanilla with a hint of cherry and benzoin. In the background, there is a velvety musk with a sweet floral mix. Wonderful fragrance closed in the typical Nobile 1942 bottle, with a lovely Art Deco label. On my wish list!

laantjebanaantje

Oh dear, how I'm loving this. I tried this blind, without knowing any of the notes, and I'm so glad I did, because cherry usually makes me run for the hills. Here, the dark cherries just add a boozy layer with hints of fruit, without ever being tart or sweet or "perfume cherry"-like. It's the cherry-star anise combo that makes the opening shine. Then, a soft, almondy (heliotrope) vanilla wraps itself around the wearer, deepened by benzoin, which keeps it from being gourmand, with its resinous qualities. The patchouli and musk are barely there, but they counter the sweetness, preventing the frangrance from becoming too heavy or cloying. The vanilla is sufficiently sweet, but also woody, more like the vanilla pods, rather than an extract. It mixes gorgeously with the floral almonds of the heliotrope and the sweet resins of the benzoin. Café Chatant wears like a weightless cashmere wrap: comforting yet sensual. Absolutely perfect.

Cassiano

Don't be fooled by the name, because this perfume doesn’t have notes of coffee in the composition. The name comes from the inspiration in the “Singing Cafés” from the 19th century, in France, when small groups of popular music performed in cafes (coffee places), outdoor. This movement of the French "belle époque" spread worldwide, gaining strength in Italy, Germany and Spain.

The official notes are: black cherry, Laurel and anise, in the output; Heliotrope, Iris and Althea (hibiscus) in the heart; benzoin, patchouli, musk and vanilla, in the base.

Once applied, the feeling is that I spent my money in vain. There is no smell, but an alcoholic vapor and a fragrance very weak and without definition. But wait, because the surprise is yet to come!
About 10 minutes later, a dense and semi-gourmand fragrance arises, with an aroma that can reproduce, perfectly, the mixture of the tobacco of gentlemen, which mingled the chypres of the ladies and the strong scent of coffee, which exuded in the enclosure. The anise presents nuances close to the licorice and the benzoin gives creaminess. But the highlight of this fragrance is in the almond aroma of Heliotrope, which joins with perfection, the vanilla.

In my opinion, the only defect is the poor projection, since a fragrance like this deserved a greater power of reach and trail, of those that nobody can remain indifferent to your presence. Apart from that, is deliciously unique. Café Chantant brings the glamour of the past for your skin.

alepoz84

A person who passes you by wearing Cafe Chantant does not go unnoticed and 'one of those perfumes tailoring, must know how to wear, mind you all must know how to wear perfumes, He needs to wear, Tailors Noblie, generally produces perfumes and haute couture complicated to wear, know how to give emotions, it 's never trivial, For me and 'become a Must, my wife must have it, I have to wear like a coat of Orefice. Advice for those who are 'in Genoa to visit them, the inventors of emotions.

first spray smells like cherry air freshener and alcohol, and I'm like "come on! how are they gonna ask $150 for this mess?" But then it settles immediately into a nice dried cherry (not very sweet), vanilla (not sweet, very very heady), with some patchouli, and star anise. It's a very dry perfume in the first hour in my opinion with a mild touch of sweetness from the cherry. The drydown is the best part, the vanilla calms down, and the whole thing gets nicer and sweetens up a bit and the heliotrope gets more noticeable. Unfortunately this has low projection and longevity is moderate. I can't give this a thumbs up or a thumbs down. sample first.
