I had high hopes for it due to notes; i love creme brulee and whipped cream!! I am true gourmand when it comes to fragrances. But on my skin this smells like sweet sunscreen fragrance.

I read that somebody compared it to Unknown pleasure and I must disagree. I own bottle and its my top 5 perfume. The ingredients are better quality in UP.

Fragnant

Found it at a local discounter. It’s lemony custard which is interesting considering it’s orange blossom. The best pink sugar flanker. Never bought the original. The perfume oil Soft by Al rehab smells exactly like the og so no need. Red velvet had a musty undertone. Decluttered that one. Never tried blueberry or creamy sunshine. The sensual smells exactly like Fantasy by Britney Spears. I would like to get my hands on the black sugar. Overall gold sugar is chef’s kiss. I love the sleek metallic packaging. They had to discontinue the best one.

Sadly I must have gotten a bad batch. I've tried it several times and all I get is a peppery blast of pencil shavings, no gourmand to be found 😩

Shimmer412

My favorite of the Pink Sugar Collection so far (Pink Sugar, Pink Sugar Sensual, and Gold Sugar), and one of my all time favorite fragrances! Seriously probably in my top 5 ever, as well as one of my signature scents! I have been wearing this since it’s launch (2012?), so about 10 years and I have yet to tire of it! I’m looking actually for more, so please contact me if you have some (literally any amount!) available!

An absolutely gorgeous gourmand that is definitely sweet, but not as sweet as the original Pink Sugar! It also has truly excellent performance for me just as the original does! I get seriously incredibly longevity (I can still smell it on me the best morning!) and silage with it! Definitely a 10/10 for everything with Gold Sugar for me!

As for the scent itself I get a sweet and creamy sugary vanilla! I pick up on the whipped cream, Crème Brûlée, Sandalwood, and orange blossom the most! I also notice the coconut, musk, the oranges, and neroli a little bit, but to me they aren’t very forward notes, but more of just a hint in the scent. I’m not a big fan of citruses, so this is a plus for me! I do love coconut and beachy fragrances, but I don’t get that vibe from this beautiful fragrance, which is a good thing considering I was expecting more of a warm, sweet, vanilla gourmand! Even with the coconut note I do tend to typically wear this during the fall and winter!

I haven’t been able to find anything that’s a dupe for it yet, but I do think that Juicy Couture Viva La Juicy Gold and Nest Golden Nectar are somewhat similar to it! I’ve been really wanting to try Dolce & Gabbana Devotion and now want to try it even more since I saw that quite a few people find that it reminds them of Gold Sugar! The closest one I’ve found so far is Versace Crystal Noir which is pretty similar imo!

Encontre el dupe!!!!! Al fursan unlimited de latafa es identico!!!!!!!!!! Lo probe hoy y lo compre al tiro!

is it me or this smells similar to Simply Pink but like with coconut? idk it makes no sense to me. also i was hoping for something better

The reviewer who said the "Indulge Me" fragrance mist by Body by TPH (Taraji P. Henson) smells like this is absolutely right. Unfortunately, it seems to only be sold at Walmart and is out of stock in my area and online. I was only able to get the lotion of the same scent called "Watch me Whip". I hope the mist comes back in stock eventually. Seems like the perfect low-cost alternative to Gold Sugar. Plus, Gold Sugar can be a little heavy, rich and overwhelming, especially for summer, another reason a body mist version would be perfect.

I just finished trying out this fragrance...I hate the opening. It is orange and bitter neroli for about 20 minutes. After it dries down, the whipped cream came through! It went from bitter to SWEET & I'm so glad it did! It lasts a long time on the skin too. At least 8 hrs. Overall I'd describe it as a whipped cream with orange in the background.

Good for layering as well.

I bought a dupe from Andromeda's Moon.

cats_eye

Unknown Pleasures by Kerosene is a stronger Gold Sugar! It doesn't have coconut but it still reminds me of it big time. Plus it lasts way longer!

Taurien

This perfume did not meet my expectations after reading its reviews and notes.

Its start is very alcoholic, which makes the citrus notes very ephemeral, although a memory of orange in the background remains throughout its development. When we start to feel a clear smell, it is mainly made up of creamy notes. These are a light coconut, which is present in its creaminess but not developing with its sweet and tropical aspect, a slight orange blossom, lactonic notes and a hint of toasted sugar (which by the way does not remind of the burnt caramel of its sister Pink Sugar but rather it is more subtle and bearable). The combination of its lactonic and sugary aspects is what makes the crème brulée accord materialize. For some reason, at times I also perceive something aniseed in it.

In terms of similarities, it does have a lot in common with Guipure&Silk Ylang Vanille by Jeanne Arthes, but Guipure has more coconut, is less lactonic and has more vanilla, and a shorter duration.

Its sillage on my skin is moderate and its duration is about 7 hours, applying generously if we really want to perceive it in its maximum splendor.

It smells very good but it didn't surprise me too much and I ended up taking it out of my collection, despite crème brulee being my favorite dessert. It is a mature gourmand that is not childish but it did not steal my heart, especially since I had already smelled something similar in the Jeanne Arthes perfume. If you are thinking of looking for it and because it is discontinued you can only find it at very high prices (I was lucky to buy it quite cheap), I just wanted to let you know that it was not worth to me.

This is such a fun gourmand! Flirty and young with some depth. A great frag if you want to smell edible and delicious.

Tinabill

GS opens with bright, zesty oranges 🍊 and mandarins. I can also smell the fresh and slightly bitter neroli and orange blossoms; they help render some sophistication to this gourmand composition. Next we are introduced to the anticipated crème brûlée. It is silky smooth, orange-flavored, mildly sweet and with a swirl of whipped cream on top. As it melts in your mouth, you can smell the torched sugar and the toasted coconut on its surface. Just beautiful.
If the original Pink Sugar was too much for you, I think that you will find Gold Sugar, more versatile year-round with a little more class. The performance is however weaker than PS.

mccaff22

Found a great dupe that is super cheap! It’s actually just a body spray but it seems to last pretty long! So it’s a new brand they sell at Walmart and it’s called “Body by TPH” and it’s the one called “Indulge Me”. It’s Vanilla and Tuber Rose. They have whipped body butters and other products as well. I got the body spray and I think it was like $9! I have the Gold Sugar as well and I swear they smell so similar! This is almost maybe even a little bit creamier!

sistermoon

Pink Sugar is my guilty pleasure. Some days I just crave that fluffy sugar mix and nothing else will do. Gold Sugar intrigued me because judging by the notes it seemed to be like a more complex fragrance, but still an obvious gourmand. I blind ordered it from an auction site for a very good price. There was nothing to lose. Well, Gold Sugar is like Pink Sugar with an addition of creme brulee and citrus. Not more complex, just as unsophisticated and utterly delicious. That's Aquolina for you. A doughnut equivalent in the world of fragrance. But on some days nothing else will do, right?

Worth noting is that Pink Sugar is a bit more intense and has better staying power. Also I find the see-through bottle to be prettier than the golden one.

kayyk123

Gonna buy like 2 more bottles of this it smells soooo goood!!

Misia Cloudy Lamb

Fast fading Vanilla Pudding. It’s similar to Angel’s Wings by Yankee Candle.

irlfireprincess

Opens with a big blast of citrus and then... almost nothing? A very faint sweetness? I have a sample of Lira and the longevity and projection are far superior.

cottoncandyrainbows

I recently got a sample of Lira (after all the hype) and when I sprayed it, I was immediately reminded of this. I'm not sure why it's not in the "Reminds Me Of" section. Regardless, Lira and Gold Sugar could be sisters. I absolutely love Gold Sugar, but I'm not a huge fan of Lira. Lira is too citrusy, and kind of makes my stomach turn. This, on the other hand, is beautiful. Too bad it's discontinued. There's a website (which I will selfishly keep to myself) where I can get samples of GS still, so I got 7 of them, just so I could hold onto it for a little longer. :(

underneath

I have all aquolina's now in my possession. Both black sugar, gold sugar, pink sugar as well as harder to find items such as sweet me. All of them have been my most complimented perfumes and they all last a long time.
This one, in my opinion, has a classy, summer vibe. I don't get much sun tan/lotion, just a lot of creme brûlée, whipped cream and a bit of sandalwood. Its light enough to enjoy in warmer weather and I'm thinking it'll do even better in the winter. Unlike the others, I find that black sugar and this are a bit more complex.

Kaylovely

Santal Sugar sounds similar.

jayznar

Gold Sugar is unfortunately discontinued and can only be found on ebay for like $80-90+CAD.
I got a bottle from ebay way back when it was cheaper on there after getting a sample. I wore the sample 3 times and knew I needed this, especially to layer. The creme brûlée note in here is special because it adds an extra texture. This is only similar to pink sugar in the deep dry down when the vanilla comes out.

But GUYS!! Oakcha has a dupe of Lira called "Italian Cello". O M G I'm guessing Gold Sugar and Lira smell similar because the Oakcha dupe smells like the high end version of this. It's like only $50 CAD. So worth it!!! The vanilla is super rich in Italian Cello and absolutely satisfies my itch for this orangey whipped vanilla cream dream that is Gold Sugar.

blackcat02

This is kinda potent upon first spray but it gets better after the orange and alcohol-y smell wears off. The orange and mandarin notes are overwhelming the other notes. imo the original pink sugar is better but maybe I’ll like it more on me in cooler weather.9/22/22 UPDATE: Straight into the trash. I think mine is long expired and the bottle I got was in poor condition. My sister smelled it and we agreed it was super old and belonged in the trash. I bet a better condition bottle actually smells good.

OSM

Citrus, floral, kind of powedery. I don't get any of the gourmand elements. I guess the coconut could be giving the lotion-like scent that remains after everything else has gone, but it doesn't smell tropical to me.

crimsonbutterflies

I unfortunately and by mistake smashed my bottle bought in TJMaxx back in 2018 (or 2017). It was a blind buy but I am risky with my perfumes so did not mind. I have a lot of them and I rotate usually but with the pandemic in place I have not been going much at all for 2+ years so the juices of some will have inevitably gone bad. If you are a lover of gourmand perfumes that can take you from spring to summer to fall and winter, look no further. It does not contain vanilla but it sure smells sweet because of the creme brulee that is in it. To me it smells a lot like MAC Hue: MV2, must be because MV2 has heliotrope and vanilla but both perfumes have a honey smell to them. For me honeysuckle is such a comforting, childhood smell from my garden and the opening notes of citrus that Gold Sugar has are just that: comforting, enveloping "feel-good" citrus notes. The drydown smells like vanilla to me and the overall longevity of this perfume is eternal! It has been almost two weeks that the bottle slipped from my bathroom cabinet and broke and the perfume still lingers whenever I enter the bathroom! I would wear this all year around as it is still "warm" enough to be worn in winter but not so cloying that you cannot wear it in the summer, provided you do not overspray. Such a shame it is discontinued. The price of under $20 for a 30 ml bottle is still a steal because this perfume lasts a long time! I wish I had used it all in time before a third of it adorned my bathroom tiles. Such a shame it is discontinued!

raw umber

My favorite Aquolina! I'm devastated that this was discontinued. It was the perfect rich Crème Brûlée edible coconut dessert scent with just the right amount of neroli and orange zest to keep it a little bright and fresh. Powerful sillage and suitable all year round. I couldn't believe it when I looked for a dupe and came up with nothing, there is nothing out there cheap or pricey that smells like this little gourmand masterpiece. Aquolina's newer Creamy Sunshine is not nearly as good. I have a 100ml bottle from 2013 that has aged beautifully but I'm searching for an unwanted cap (for any size bottle). Even a pink sugar cap would work if you have one you no longer need, please send me a pm! Thanks very much 💛

Jadeeeee

So yummy, So GOOD! Why is this being discontinued Aquolina? My favorites are as followed -> Gold Sugar, Chocolovers & Pink Sugar.

I’m so upset it took me forever to grab this gem. I remember when it came on the scene.

takema

Gold Sugar is not nearly as sweet as I would have expected, not nearly as sweet as the original Pink Sugar. It is a bit sweet and pretty creamy. I find the creaminess comes more from sandalwood than the other creamy notes, whipped cream and creme brulee. I ended up not loving this fragrance because of that, but that is very much because I hate a creamy sandalwood in fragrances. If you enjoy that or are indifferent to it, this is quite a nice fragrance. The orange in the opening is bright, sweet and juicy, then it's the beachy florals with coconut and the creamy sandalwood.

The performance is a bit on the low side, it lasts about 2-4 hours with light projection. I see this as a evening summer/vacation fragrance. Something to wear for an evening walk along the beach to watch the sun set. I think it would work in any temperature especially when you want to be reminded of warm summer nights at the beach. I also find it quite feminine.

I really like the all gold opaque bottle. Yes it looks kinda cheap, especially up close. But it suits the fragrance and the brand, a bit cheap, but really likeable. I'm pretty sure this is discontinued and is getting harder to find so the price has gone up quite a bit when it does show up. It's not worth the really inflated prices since there are other fragrances that are quite similar for reasonable prices. I have Elle L'Aime by Lolita Lempicka which is pretty similar and has much. better performance. I also find it similar to Warm Vanilla Sugar by Bath & Body Works (the body spray has about the same performance), but the sandalwoood overpowers both for me so I may not be the best judge. Another good option for a summery Pink Sugar is the newer flanker, Pink Sugar Creamy Sunshine, I personally like it much more.

Nanalvzpink

This smells similar to Mancera instant crush.

Mademoisellejaimie

This was such as good blind buy! Creamy, delicious coconut. I don't like Pink Sugar, it makes me sick to my stomach. None of that here. This is nowhere near as sweet and smells much more expensive. I can't believe I had it in my drawers for 2 years before I sprayed it on me this summer. The citrus and sweets combo makes it very reminiscent of Xerjoff Lira (which I own) for less than a 10th of the price. I'm sad it's so hard to find, otherwise I'd get a back up. GET THIS!

Nanalvzpink

Good while I had it but I won’t repurchase. Not because it was bad, it’s just a perfume that you want to experience but not marry.
It’s like that one ex that was good to you but you couldn’t see a future with.

theuntrainednose

I have a sample.

---

As expected, it is VERY sweet. Actually well-made and balanced, though. It's neither too coconutty nor too floral nor too caramel-y. More like a thick sweetness and a bit of creaminess, a bit of woodiness. Reminds me of the kind of sweetness in my L'Occitane Miel et Vanille.

I will have to test it in winter. In summer, it is very strong and projects a lot, and today I am not in the mood for it. I can see its quality as a sweet scent, though.

---

Re-tested in winter: Cute, sweet and well-made. There's something I don't enjoy too much on it, something like hairspray musk note. It reminds me of an Ulric de Varens cheapie I own.

When I am in the mood for extreme sweetness, I would prefer my L'Occitane Miel et Vanille.

Gemsense

Whats up with all my fave sweets scents being over priced? This is another that used to be under 20 bucks now has doubled. This, meow, fantasy rocker femme... Wtf going on? Ill just buy the oils until these prices go back down. This is reminding me of the bogus landlords that up the rent just cuz min wage went up. I will not feed into this greediness and neither should anyone else.

Dreamdott

This is just very sharp to me. It’s not terrible it’s just too much. I can handle the sweetness but the citrus makes this hard to deal with. It’s headach inducing like the original but this one is worse. This version is brighter and more daytime. I feel like I’m giving the impression that I don’t like this. I do but my nose can’t handle it most of the time. The opening is my biggest problem. It’s too spiked. The middle notes and base notes are better. Crème brûlée is a note I pick up on but it’s not a warm Crème brûlée it’s a slightly cold Crème brûlée where the sugar on top is no longer hard and crackly. I only kept it for the middle notes. Orange blossom translates on me to being a very strong note but I have other orange blossom frags and they aren’t as rough. It’s a nice fragrance but it doesn’t suit me :) but I’ll keep it for the middle notes. It’s a love hate relationship 😭

Edit: I've decided I want to give this to someone who would appreciate it more :) PM me if you'd like to swap!

piahellgren

I don´t quite know how to say this, but not only is this better than Bonbon... it is also better than Xerjoff Lira. There. I have said it. It doesn't minimise my love for this that I have owned my bottled pretty much since it came out and it is as delicious as when it was new. The way the intense citrus notes mix with the gourmand notes are just spectacular. Love it.

arzacu

I'm wearing this one today and I haven't wore it long time ago... autumn is finally here where I live and this one seemed perfect for todays afternoon... its sweet and milky scent is something that I love... not overpowering, smells like a sweet citrusy orange and then after it settles on skin it starts to smell like the most refined creme bruleé you ever tried.

A shame it's discontinued but I still have more than a half of a bottle to enjoy from time to time when I like something sweet and warm.

A favourite for the upcoming fall and winter days.

jamir6789

Creamy citrusy sweet caramel coconut. Its ok. Nice but I like pink sugar more. Also very light.

kandykiller

This now actually smells like Gold Sweet sugar....if there were such thing! It smells of coconut slightly, with a stronger orange creme...like the actual orange& vanilla cremed popcycles at the store, and sugar& it really smells like metal lol hence the gold with the sugar added, Gold sugar....the italians are very creative, hey im over 60 percent italian, its ok,so for me because i like the sweetness with the coconut, orange creme popcycle& gold sugar ,its more of a happy& uplifting summer scent& given the fact it doesnt last long maybe 1 hour max before its skin scent 2hours max,its one of those summer sweet perfumes i own...and never reach for...yet i like owning,if that makes sense? The Gold note they got tho& sugar,id say this smells exactly like they say,Gold& sugar, lol!!!!

neurofeels

I can't stand the aggressive synthetic orange note in the opening of this fragrance, but the drydown is much better. I get a powdery orange blossom with a faint creme brulee creaminess underneath. Ultimately, I wouldn't repurchase this fragrance; if you want that sweet orange blossom note in a more elegant concoction, try The Only One Intense by D&G.

IceAnge1

This smells to me like straight up sun tan oil. Yes, the coconut one that reminds you of the beach. Unfortunately for me, it's a scent that I don't like to smell like in a perfume, but if that's the type of scents you like, this would work in simulating that. =]

sibaraa

This is just terrible. So chemically cloying. It made me cough so badly. Do not blind buy it!!!

Lalouve<3

Less synthetic than pink sugar, creamy and mellower. Good scent to be combined with greener or harsher perfumes to give them creaminess and sweetness. A like from me.

JolieSucre

This is more synthetic than Pink Sugar, but doesn't have the harsh burnt saccharin note. To me this is the perfect sugar layering base perfume for other scents I want amped up.

The 'vanilla' in this one gives it a more rugged bite than Pink Sugar, and mixed with the bitterness of the grapefruit zest and the sharp sandalwood opening note, which I dislike to say the least, this perfume seemed to be a failure upon the first trial. I thought I had made a mistake by not getting the Pink Sugar.

Let it sit for 15 minutes, or wear it only in cold weather. It smells beautifully if left to 'rest' and open up. The sandalwood disappears almost completely, thankfully, and the scent becomes creme brulee served with grapefruit zest on top. Bitter and less sunny than an orange/mandarin, but still ok.

It's still sugar, still has a hint of sandalwood, so I prefer to layer it with other scents, more citrusy or just not sweet enough. Because it's quite simple and already has a bitter spiciness to it, it mixes quite well and ends up giving pretty much any non-sweet perfume the Britney Spears Fantasy taste. When I layer it on top of a rose scent I feel like I am creating my own little syrupy rose essence and smell like a sweet, tarty snack.

Beware - this is not milky, lactonic, buttery or anything in the family. It's a zingy version of Pink Sugar because of the sandalwood tone, a bit spicier. Definitely not whipped cream.

I would recommend Pink Sugar as the safest of the three sugars, Pink, Gold and Black, if you don't know what they smell like.

Rozalina

Gold Sugar is a fab cheapie, when you can find it! Initially starts as a citrus-floral but very quickly turns into a pretty realistic (if somewhat synthetic) crême brûlée very lightly dusted with sweetened coconut shavings. It’s not as cotton candy sweet as Pink Sugar and it’s definitely not tropical despite the coconut (hardly noticeable, thankfully). Gold Sugar isn’t long lasting and turns into a skin scent quickly, but I would enjoy wearing this at night while relaxing at home with the delicious scent of creamy baked goods wafting up.

Holli

I've tried and like the Pink Sugar line. Most of them I think smell more expensive than they are. This is the most synthetic of the bunch. As long as you don't mind (i don't) that extreme coconut fake smell, it's nice. My husband falls for this one. It's very dessert and also very musky. He's a sucker for both. It's a fun one.

Nourhan

I absolutely loved the original version, but i truly dislike the gold version! I didn’t get any coconut or creamy notes on my skin. So no for me.

bdragonfly12345

I blind bought samples for a few of the Aquolina scents when I saw them, because I figured I was about the only person left who hadn't tried any of them, haha! ;)

I really enjoy this one! I smell a distinctive creme brulee + heavy coconut milk + light citrus + light floral. On me, it's a skin scent that I would be happy to wear to the office. I don't find it overwhelming or headache-inducing, and I would definitely buy a full bottle!

Testing this on a dark stormy day, it has brightened my mood up all day!

melikaofpersia

I get Viva La Juicy vibes from this: a sharp synthetic orange opening and sweet cheap caramel (admittedly delicious) drydown. It’s not for me (granted, I don’t usually like overly sweet gourmands), but it might definitely be for you if you like Juicy Couture scents. In my opinion, this is better than Viva la Juicy. It’s less alcoholy, more delicious and performs better too. This is also similar to the Sol de Janeiro body mist. However, I have to disagree with the Rasasi Shaghaf pour femme comparison. The structure might be similar, but the scent is veryyyyy different. Gold Sugar has a caramel-toffee (or apparently crème brûlée) sweetness, while Shaghaf’s sweetness is all about the vanilla.

All that being said, I don’t hate Gold Sugar. The sweetness is bearable and didn’t give me a headache in the hot humid summer. I do wish the coconut wasn’t so subtle. But overall, I actually think that many girls would love it. It smells a little cheap, but still young and yummy. Also, men love these kinda fragrances so you might get a lot of compliments from your man.

diaanz81

I fully expected to love this because of all the gourmand notes BUT the orange in this is overpowering and synthetic. All the other notes are drowned out by it and it ends up smelling like orange creamsicle but heavy on the orange peel rather than the actual fruit. The biggest flaw in my opinion is the imbalance in notes and if it weren't for the strong synthetic orange peel note, I'm pretty sure I would have liked this one a lot. This is a pass for it.

mevans

I like this much better than the original Pink Sugar. Still very sweet and gourmand, this one is not synthetic like Pink Sugar. It's a deeper, creamier and richer sweet. More evolved than the sugary cotton candy you get with the original. With this one, I don't get a lot of floral. It's a pretty straight line to the gourmand notes. I get the coconut which I'm not usually a fan of but here it's very nicely done. I'm loving the Creme Brulee and whipped cream accord. This one is a keeper. This is going to replace my Pink Sugar.

KrystalPower83

I have a 2014 bottle of D&G Pour Femme and this Gold Sugar smells SO very similar I just bought a 100ml new bottle on eBay for only $18.99!, Get it while you can.
It's very strong....smells a little better than D&G to me, will save for the cold, too strong in the summer.

RachelSeun

To me it smells like custard in a bottle! Such a warm and cozy vanilla and coconut fragrance, just wish it was easier to purchase and I can’t seem to get a hold of this fragrance too easily

SalinasL

I ordered a sample of this hoping for a good whipped cream scent, yummy and sweet but not synthetic. The coconut appealed as well. I couldn’t remember the notes when I got it and tried it. I definitely got the caramel-y sweetness which verges on chemical and too much but just manages to stay tolerable, which I think is where the coconut comes in. I thought there might be some kind of red berry in the background. There’s definitely a faint fruitiness, but it doesn’t come across as orange to me at all, which is strange given that two orange notes and neroli are listed. Those notes are usually prominent on my skin. Not as fluffy or nuanced as I was hoping for but it’s pleasant and girly and fun.

kkaattjjeess

Another one of my atrocious blind buys, I don't doubt this smells good on other people but it was way too sharp and synthetic on me, gave it away eventually.

Sandalwood meets coconut (the husk) with a touch of cream. A very distant cousin to Versace Crystal Noir (I do not like that one either). If you love those notes, then this would be perfect for you. I however, do not.

For reference, I like vanilla, jasmine, musky, coconut water, nutty (almond or pistachio) and creamy notes. I also tend to like anything that D&G puts out.

Fragrance2123

This is the literal representation of a coconut-vanilla cupcake in perfume form.

This perfume is the closest representation of a gourmand I have ever smelled, and I surely have smelled a lot of perfumes. You have to really love very sweet fragrances to like this, otherwise this will be too much.
This also smells identically to the Garnier Botanic Therapy Coconut hair conditioner.
But I just love this! This is a very heavy vanilla-cupcake scent, with lots of coconut sprinkles on top, I lightly spray this, and by lightly I mean maximum 2 puffs if I really want to smell like a sugar vanilla cake. This is more than enough, otherwise I think this fragrance can become cloying fast if oversprayed.

The top notes are kind of a miss though, the orange in the beginning makes this a mess in the first 10 minutes. It smells like you sprayed some orange flavoured furniture cleaner over a vanilla cupcake, but after those 10 minutes are gone, so is the orange, and you are left with a delicious coconut-vanilla cake. So just don't be quick to judge this and dismiss this scent after 2 minutes. Be a bit patient and you'll be so glad you let this scent shine! A true gourmand for people who love this type of scent.

italiancandi

Layer this with fancy love by Jessica Simpson for the best creamy comforting lovely smell. You will smell like an actual dessert and a classy one too.

Diaryofsmallthings

This is like the dessert version of Armani Code for Women. I bought this for my daughter and I'm now keeping it for me! One spray is all you need and it's there for hours. It's true to it's notes. No surprises for the nose...except for liking it far more than I thought I would.

missswish

Upon the first spray I smell black licorice which is strange because licorice isn't mentioned. Then I get a citrusy floral
sandalwood note which is sweet, yet the licorice calms the sweetness a bit. I also smell a subtle coconut scent which doesn't take on that sun tan lotion sweetness. I purchased this as a sample- it's a nice scent. I've tested this in February (Canada) and I believe that this fragrance would be much sweeter in the summer. I like spraying a little upon my hair.

catmeow

It took me a while to remember what this reminds me of.. but this is like opening a bag of Brandt cocos rusk. It's the perfect cookie season scent, so cozy and delightful.

I don't detect any citrusy Orange or Mandarin, maybe because of the cold weather? It's just very sweet coconut biscuit and creamy goodness with a lot of Sandalwood from the start. The cocos is strong, but it doesn't bother me so much as it does in many other scents.

Not even remotely related to the cotton candy scent of Pink Sugar, which I wear often. Also not much in common with peachy Lolitaland, on me Gold Sugar is missing all fruityness. I will love Gold Sugar all winter, I'm sure. And then it will eventually become something else in summer.

Alpearl10

This smells absolutely nothing like pink sugar. This is very much a cold weather scent to me. Very warm and very sweet. You really get the orange and a warm caramel/vanilla. This really lasts all day as well.

DebiL1211

This smells like the red vines red licorice.

I really like it. Great sillage and fair longevity.
12/1/2019 edit-
The opening still reminds me of red vines but then it rolls into a creamy coconut, sweet vanilla (creme brulee?) Sandlewood scent. It has moderate longevity and sillage.
It will last about 5 hours on my skin. I really love this and will be wearing it a lot this winter.

mmagic_conch

I wish so badly I could love this. The listed notes are perfect for me. But I just can’t seem to get past the plastic smell. As someone else on here said, it smells like the vanilla scented rubbery plastic head of a cabbage patch doll. That’s all I can smell. Several hours later it almost becomes bearable, mostly just vanilla. Disappointed I can’t smell the coconut whatsoever.

PerfumeJunkie2b

For me, the initial spray is a blast of citrus (almost like orange peels so I’m thinking it’s the neroli), but this immediately settles on the skin to this delicious, creamy orange creamsicle scent (think orange & vanilla ice cream, yum!) while somehow managing not to smell immature. I own both Gold & Pink Sugar and while I love Pink Sugar (it had to grow on me, lol), I don’t think it’s a safe blind buy, and I feel Gold Sugar is (if you want to smell like delicious orange creamsicle yumminess, lol). I’d even go as far as saying this may be a love!

Shellarella74

This is a creamy delicious orange coconut ice cream, in a grown up way. Really yummy! Super long lasting. Great for vacation or anytime you want to feel warm and sunny. My boyfriend says I smell like a Creamsicle.

Zowie

Before trying it, I thought it would be very seductive notes to men since it got Mandarin orange and sweet milky scents. However, I was disappointed. For me, it is not well blended well. From the beginning to the end, the smell is not really milky and not really fresh orange either. It is like a sweet sour milk, it won't give you a headache since it is warm base, but it won't give you a fully convinced rich notes as well.
I would say, people around you would think it is a wired scents than a pleasant scents.

lrnonken

Very light and pleasant, very different from the sharp and bold Pink Sugar. This does not have the plastic edge that Pink Sugar has on my skin, so it's more soft and warm.... there is still a tiny hint of an odd smell though.... maybe Band-Aids? In general, to me it smells kind of like a generic sunscreen, with very little projection. I give it a B+ overall.

Dan27

I always love aquolina fragrances... this one also wins my heart!! Creamy coconuty sweet fragrance.. if you cant stand pink sugar, try this one! This is not so on your face type of sweet. It is sweet and creamy and cozy. The only thing i dislike about this fragrance is the citruses in the opening. But other than that, this is an A+

mapache

Bought a new 1 oz spray of this.
I will keep it simple....it is what it is...and agree with most of the reviews here...except..on me...I do not get a suntan lotion coco pina ...at all !!
I get citrus...vanilla...coconut spiced floral.I do not find this over sweet either. I think it is a nice casual scent that smells fantastic. I had no big expectations.
I wish I bought the larger bottle....LOL ....

Daisylinne

When I tested this for the first time, I was a bit scared. I knew the original Aquolina Pink Sugar very well and I hated the burnt-tyres-undertones it had on my skin. So you can imagine my surprise when I was greeted by fragrant oranges dipped in vanilla cream!

Gold Sugar quickly became a love for me. It is the epitome of "cozy scent" - so warm and sweet without being cloying at any moment. It opens up with tangy oranges and vanilla cream. The oranges are so tart in the beginning, that they kind of remind me of yogurt mixed with marmelade. However, the sourness goes away soon and I am left with a decadent creme brulee, on which someone sprinkled freshly-picked orange flowers. This dry-down is heavenly and so ridiculously good when you consider how cheap this perfume is!

Another great thing about Gold Sugar is that you can wear it in most seasons - the gourmand notes make it perfect for the colder months of the year, while the zesty citruses keep it from getting cloying and make it a good fit for the warmer months as well. The perfume lasts about 8-9 hours on my skin, but it only projects for the first two hours. If I want more sillage, I have to re-apply, which I don't mind.

I am so glad I discovered this gem! I got it from a blind-swap - possibly my most successful blind-swap to date.

eevveess

smells like sunscreen

yunaluna

this is how I imagine a pretty Instagram influencer to smell like. makes me want to work out, get tan, eat salad in marble bowls, and network on a beach. unfortunately, I have yet to find a fragrance that actually makes me DO all those things.

in all seriousness, this is a lovely confection of a scent. a thick, custardy dessert I want to lather on every day. yet thanks to the woodsy and floraly notes, it's still an interesting, bodied, and blended perfume, instead of literal food on the skin. works great for layering too, under or over more complex perfumes, on days when you don't want to smell so innocent.

SailorV

Gold Sugar was on my test list for a long time, and I always thought this could be a potential blind-buy. Cheap, nice notes, many good reviews, why not? But now I got a sample in a swap and I think if I had blind-bought it, I wouldn‘t have been sad, but I don‘t really need a full bottle of this.
To my nose, the opening is rather citrussy and not that gourmand. I smell lemons, oranges and neroli. But soon the coconut and all the sweet notes kick in. Now this really reminds me of a lemon vanilla meringue cake with coconut flakes, or maybe even a layer of coconut cream filling in it.
There is also a hint of suntan oil, which I find unneccessary in this sweet dessert scent, but I guess it makes the fragrance more summery. It‘s very creamy overall.

To my nose Gold Sugar is a very friendly scent. Totally safe if you like gourmands, I don‘t know why anyone who likes the notes would really hate this fragrance. It’s not too overwhelming either. This is not a masterpiece, but a nice little cheapie, especially if you‘re looking for citrus, coconut and cake.
Btw, I really disliked Pink Sugar when I smelled it many years ago, and I don‘t see any unpleasant family resemblance here, apart from the obvious fact that both are sweet.

AHeartLikeMine

I feel like this falls into the "gourmand" category, but none of the notes are literal. This starts off very similar to Pink sugar with a blast of neroli. I have determined that I do not enjoy neroli as the star of the show After the first 5-10 minutes, the citrus wears off into what I only know to describe as "the 'gourmand' accord that I can't stand." It's heavy, overbearingly chemical, and pushes me to the verge of having a headache. Around 30 minutes after first application, that accord has faded down and a synthetic creamy note takes the forefront. Maybe around an hour, it starts smelling less synthetic and more vanilla. Two hours in, I think I'm smelling ghosts of spices.

I don't like waiting more than 15 minutes for my fragrances to settle, and I'm not finding any particular enjoyment even in the drydown, so this one is likely to end up in the swap pile.

Oilove23

Just tested this. It went from cereal to sweet coconut on my skin. As soon as I put it on I thought "Froot Loops!" but thought I was crazy so I asked my fiancee what he thought of it. As soon as he sniffed it he also said "Froot Loops" which confirmed it for me. It's okay. Surprisingly. I loathe the original Pink Sugar so I was scared of this one but recieved a sample from a swap. I'd probably buy it for my daughters.

Linda JK

Since this was a blind-buy, I was trying to decide between Pink and Gold Sugar.I've never cared for cotton candy (I despised it in another fragrance) and it sounded like Pink is cloyingly sweet.

I decided to go with Gold (30 ml, which is a fairly small bottle). I couldn't be happier and wish I'd bought a larger flanker.

I literally just received it today and it's the only one (out of my three orders) that I tried directly on my skin as opposed to a piece of paper.

I hate the bottle and don't care for the packaging-- they are both cheap-looking.

This is a sweet, creamy, warm scent that is perfect for colder/cooler weather. I doubt I would wear this in the hot summer months as I'm sure my body chemistry would transform it into something screechy and unpleasant. The great thing is, this isn't sickeningly/cloyingly sweet.

The coconut note can be a little tricky when not mixed well with other notes. It's very well blended in Gold Sugar. That crème brule, coconut, and creamy accord are what give this frag a warm, sensual, and creamy dry-down.

It does open a little strong, that's the citrus and neroli, but it settles very quickly.

Sadly, the sillage and longevity are nothing to write home about, which means re-applying it. I don't mind since I plan to buy another flanker when this is done. There's an advantage to buying a small flanker since you can easily carry it in your bag.

This is a safe blind-buy.

Tasali

I have to make another review and kick the negative first one I wrote to oblivion.
I really did not care for this perfume at first, I was even a bit disappointed.
God how that changed once the drydown kicked in and that fake-tan lotion smell disappeared.
I can only describe it as a glass of coconutwater with a spritz of orangejuice topped with sugar and cream.

Sailor Pluto

This scent is sweet but has more of a masculine edge than Pink Sugar. I much prefer Pink Sugar and Simply Pink over this scent.

MarnaL

I like creamy gourmands, and after reading the reviews, I ordered this perfume. I just received this perfume via mail.

Let me just begin by saying the bottle is horrid. I tried to take this out of the gold, cardboard like container it's in, and it immediately fell out and onto my hard tiled ground, breaking the cap into pieces. I then spent 15 min figuring out how to take off the little remainder of the cap that's on the bottle, and cut my finger.

Ok, now onto the scent. I have mixed thoughts on this perfume, so be forewarned for those who cannot understand a subjective opinion. Our sense of smell is subjective and vary from person to person, below is my own perception of this scent.

Initial spray- oh boy, I didn't think an EDT could be this potent!!!! Which I think is great. Moving on, the initial strong spray was really a spicy sugar scent to me. I sensed no creaminess. All I received was something akin to a spiced pumpkin Christmas scent crossed with one of the sandalwood/patchouli incense sticks lit in my local temple.

3-5 min later- Still strong and sweet Christmas scent (sillage monster!). I smell a bit of Cinnamon. I looked at the ingredients on the gold container of the scent, and one of the ingredients is hexyl cinnamal, aka the scent of cinnamon. Not sure why it's not listed as a note here, but I smell cinnamon.

5-20 min- Still sweet, but smell stronger cinnamon, citrus, and sandalwood, and a hint of caramel. Still no creamy scent.

20-45 min- still strong! smell more cinnamon, and more citrus, and a bit of musk. The sugary sweetness from before is being subdued by a stronger citrus

1- 2hr- a battle of citrus and sugar with the cinnamon getting subdued.

2-8 hr- the sugar has subdued and replaced with citrus and musk and a slight vanilla

8+ hour the scent continues with musk and a tangy citrus and a warm vanilla undertones

How I feel: This didn't at all meet my creamy expectations. However, I'm not at all dissatisfied with the Christmas scent. It also has incredible sillage and longevity for the price and for an EDT. It also sort of evolves and not linear.

Scent: 6/5-7/10
Sillage: 10/10
Longevity: 6/10 (2-4 hours)

cocofluff

The bottle looks cheap but the juice is delightful. It smells like a zesty vanilla cake to me. Longevity is 6 hours on me. Doesn't project further than arms length.

I sprayed ~6 times in the morning on various areas (air, inner arm, behind neck, wrists). Smells gourmand from the start. After about an hour I couldn't really smell much myself, so I think it became a skin scent. However, my love told me he could smell me from a little distance and distinctly like vanilla from closer.

Drydown smells of powdery sandalwood, vanilla, and a touch of orange. It's definitely a LIKE! -

Melissa_T

Got this as a Christmas present and I'm sad that this is such a heavy fragrance. I was hoping for a light, sweet, creamy scent. All I smell is the musk & sandalwood and kind of that burnt smell that you get when Pink Sugar goes bad.... so maybe my bottle is old? Detected absolutely no coconut or the fruits in this. Bummed because this wasn't cheap at the perfume store:(
Update- luckily the guy at the perfume store let me exchange this for something else!!

musenkata

Cream, sugar, brulee - dessert.

Valentineee

Charmant

SaraX

I swore I would never try another Aquolina scent after the disappointements I had with Pink Sugar, Pink Sugar Sensual and Simply Pink. I could not stand any of them. Too artificial, too sugary, too cloying etc.

Then I saw this at such a bargain price online and decided to give Aquolina one more chance. I couldn't be more happier that I did!

This is a really delicious scent, especially suitable for colder months/winter time. Somehow I also manage to get a sligtly Christmassy vibe out of this.

I get a lot of orangy coconut cake in this or orange flavoured coconut cookies with cream. Not exactly crème brule but that is a good thing since the association with crème brule originally kept me from buying this, since it made me think this would be too sweet and sugary, but this is not. Instead this is so delicious that I keep wishing this was edible.

I can also detect a hint of neroli here and it blends in beautifully.

This is one that you do not have to overspray. One tiny spray and you are good to go for hours.

Not a tropical coconut scent this one, but a real find for gourmand lovers, especially if you happen to love coconut blended with oranges, like I do.

craftymaya

Inexpensive nice vanilla. Very similar to Meow by Katy Perry. Yes, orange creme brulee...But still, cheap fruity vanilla (you get what you paid for, right?)... at least the bottle is more elegant than Meow!
Long lasting! Can't wash it off :)

Suzybee

I cannot tell you how many times I passed this scent up because I wasn't sure I would like it. Well, I finally caved at the start of Summer and it was a surprise blind buy.

Like the comment below, it's much better for Fall and Winter even though the Coconut note might make you think Summer. It's unlike Pink Sugar which is straight up caramelized sugar. Gold Sugar is a decadent Orange Creme Brulee with Coconut, caramelized Sugar and Sandalwood. Moderate sillage and lasts 10+ hours on my skin. For the price point, it's a good blind buy.

Mariana96

I wasn't sure if I should buy this perfume, because I didn't like Pink Sugar, but this one is much more fancier!

Gold Sugar is perfect for the fall and winter, it is very comforting!

LemonCake

Blind bought it a few years ago because I am such a sucker for Aquolina perfumes, plus I was seduced by the whipped cream and creme brulee notes.

Well, THAT was an absolute fail. I am surprised, because Aquolina fragrances are so well known for accurately mimicking gourmand notes that manage to smell EDIBLE.

Pink Sugar Gold is a mush of headache inducing cloying sweetness that doesn't change or go away for hours (kudos for sillage and longevity I guess). I ended up giving it away to my teenage neighbour - but hey, at least she loved it :)

Kristina98

Smells like vanilla and sandalwood to me ,I looove it
for the evening , also have the pink sugar ,don't like it
too plastic scenty for me ,this one though ❤❤❤❤

adrienn99

to me this is more like plain pannacotta, given creme brulee has that burned caramel on top which I do not get from this frag...it is full-fat condensed milk/cream with a hint of dried coconut (not fresh) and ample musk.
longevity and sillage not up to par, however, for the price am not complaining there.

jansiri

I am not sure why it has taken me so long to try this. I blind brought this today and it is so delicious. I cannot believe the quality of this scent for its price.

Upon opening this has a gorgeous blend of orange, cream and coconut which reminds me of a more subtle version of scandal by JPG. On dry down you start getting creamy creme brulee with sugared crust and vanilla. I couldn't stop smelling my wrists all day! This also pair nearly nicely with Lolita Lempika Elle Laime for the summer.

bianca_11106

Big blast of citruses in the beginning, with a nice tropical vibe to it from the coconut. After 10-15 minutes it becomes smooth, creamy and warm, very gourmand like a dessert due to the creme brulee note, not intoxicating sweet though.
I love it! ❤️ It's a delicious, amazing scent, that's so fun to wear! ❤️❤️❤️

N8vDoll

Pink Sugar Gold doesn't do it for me. To much citrus for my liking and not enough of that sweet warmth that I adore.

Madrona

Very similar to what I remember Britney Spears In Control Curious being. I get a clear note of apricot or peach as opposed to the stated citruses, flanked by a smidgen of creaminess, probably some vanilla. Less fluffy, sweet and lovely than expected, really quite fruity on me.

oiprocs80

When I first sprayed this, I got in your face blast of oranges/citrus liquor. Waited a few minutes and it smelled a lil like sunscreen mixed with tanning lotion/or the old baby magic lotion in the white bottle. But just wait for it...a good 10 minutes went by and I was like I know this smell. What does this remind me of? Then it hit me. It smelled just like my great grandmothers kitchen when she would make homemade coconut cake! Took me right back to the late 80's, early 90's when I would just sit and watch her make it. Although, I first thought this would be great for summer, it's not for me (sickly sweet) but I do like to wear it in late fall, winter when I can enjoy it & not get a headache from it. Still turns really sweet on me & last about 6 hours. I think that's pretty good for an EDT.

socorrosouza

On me it is like a meringue or a tangerine/lemon souflee, the coconut is just in the background, there is this incredible creaminess, it is really an amazing scent. Longevity is over 8 hours with sillage and projection moderate but perfectly perceptible. My fave from Aquolina.

dvpxo

When I first spritz Gold Sugar all I get is sunscreen. This is literally coconut sunscreen in a bottle. I do not get the creme brulee or whipped cream accords on the sillage but it is there on the skin. The yummiest part of the scent wears very close to the skin, the sillage is a different fragrance completely. The orangeflower is there but I wish it was louder; I do not smell mandarin whatsoever. The neroli is also detectable but is much more musky and gets lost with the jasmine and sandalwood. I was expecting so much more from this - I find Aquolina's scents to be very good quality for a reasonable price. The scents sounded wonderful online but I am a tad bit turned off that I smell like sunscreen. I think this would do great as a layering scent, I am thinking of pairing it with VS Bombshell Summer to up the citrus.
This actually smells exactly like a tanning lotion that I use by Designer Skin called Duchess - at least I know I can pair it with that!

PlasticPeony

Ok, so I think we can all agree that the bottle is atrocious, it looks like a dollar store can of hairspray. Overlooking the fact (which isn’t easy to do, as part of the experience is in the presentation), this is such a yummy, addictingly sweet fragrance that gourmand and desert-like fragrance lovers will definitely enjoy. This is basically a high calorie citrusy desert in a bottle. I love it in cold weather, especially Christmas time, there’s something very comforting about this one. Do I like it more than Pink Sugar? Hmm…objectively yes, because it’s more creamy, milky, warm; Pink Sugar is just basically a burnt sugar scent on me, a different kind of sweet than Gold Sugar. They are both gourmands but I don’t see much of a resemblance between them except for the sweetness factor.
If you’re into desert-like scents and you like smelling like cupcakes then definitely give this one a try.

SunniB

It opens with citrus and neroli, with the heart of the crème brule and coconut and the base of Australian sandalwood, musk and creamy accord.

I get creamy citrus with bananas and a hint of pineapple and coconut with a touch of musk and sandalwood.

It's appealing to use for layering but not outstanding on its own. Rather inoffensive, generic tropical fragrance.

If you like this, you should try:

I smell almond, i know it isn't listed, but i smell it. The almond smell gives it a hypnotic poison vibe, but without the play dough smell. I get all the notes listed, the orange blasts through in the early stages. This is a beautiful creamy, i want to say coconut, but my nose can only smell almond. Either way, it's pretty, and in my opinion expensive smelling for such a good price. The almond stays right through to the end, partnered with the sandalwood. It's about average longevity, you can still smell it after a good few hours, but i much prefer the punch of the initial dry down. Sillage is same, average. Over all, this is a beautiful fragrance, and definitely one i'll buy again. I can't wait to try this in the colder weather, i think it'll pack more of a punch.

pjspaceshit

Creamy and zesty fresh at the same time. Its a pity, that the citrusy notes that I get smell a little bit cheap. Overall not bad, but I'm not going crazy for it.

TabledThoughts

To my very adept nose it lacks the aforementioned citrus and coconut notes but weighs in heavy on the super sweet and animalistic musk accord.
I like it best blended with pure patchouli oil. The two compliment each other and give me a fresh, sultry, individualistic scent I can live in daily

Charess

Creamy coconutty heaven. This is one of my favorites for summer.
The coconut, whipped cream and creme brulee are nicely balanced with the citrus, sandalwood and musk. Gold Sugar is mainly sweet and creamy, but the citrus, musk and woods make it much more interesting.

Where Pink Sugar smells very chemical/synthetic on my skin, Gold Sugar does not. This is a very beautiful fragrance, and I find this smelling much more expensive than it actually is.

Sillage is moderate, longevity is 6/7 hours.

greyhoundmom

A very edible scent...Gold Sugar legitimately makes me feel hungry for sweets when I wear it. There is an eggy custard note that makes it so realistically food-like along with lots of toasted coconut and vanilla. So yummy! A coworker commented that it smelled like maple syrup.

Good projection but the longevity leaves a bit to be desired; this isn't quite the powerhouse that Pink Sugar is but it's still a fantastic addition to any gourmand lover's collection.

Blueflowers

I do love a sweet gourmand-centric perfume when the mood strikes, and Gold Sugar is just that.

The OG Pink Sugar is too saccharine for me—a screaming lollipop of burnt sugar that goes on and on—but Goldie here strikes a nice, comparatively reserved balance. It still has impressive longevity and throw, but for me, it’s a definite improvement on the original modern classic.

I adore orange blossom, and its powdery citrusy freshness is present, as is a lovely fluffy whipped cream note that gets along so well with the coconut—all serving to cut down that Aquolina super-strength sweetness to a palatable level.

Not something I’d wear frequently, but certainly something that satisfies a sweet craving in a rewarding way when it comes around.

Nikol2

In summer it smells horrible, but in winter is it the dream scent, pure heaven.

jaumemiro

smells like bronzer, I bought this thinking that I would love it because of the notes and now, every time I smell it around I got a headache and nauseas, I HATE THAT I HATE THIS :(

adice

I think this is very nice and great value for your money. I don't find it to be really "gourmand" - meaning I don't think it smells literally like food. However, it is very sweet and a bit creamy, I'd also say it's a bit generic. I don't reach for it very often and when I do I'm pretty "meh" on it.

That said, I still like this way more than the original Pink Sugar (or, as I like to call it "cheap burnt plastic sugar") and find it very versatile. It has excellent longevity and projection 8+ hours.

Gabler

It´s a kind of strange feeling when you don´t prefer sweet gourmand perfumes, you don´t enjoy notes like coconut, whipped cream & crème brûlée - but you surprisingly fall in love with Gold Sugar. I don´t know how it happened.

The scent is just delicious and almost edible. The finest crème brûlée, flawlessly sweet, a hint of superfine vanilla sugar, sweet & heliotrope-like almonds, milky sandalwood, honey, citrusy neroli - and I´m in heaven.

I had no high expectations, I just had an opportunity to try it, so I did - and I don´t regret. It´s nice, it´s calming & and I like to apply it before I go to sleep.

locknotes06

This is an excellent sweet-creamy-comforting and long lasting scent.I decided to make the review just now after having 2 bottles of Gold Sugar for the past 5-6 months because after all these time of wearing it,and it being in the peak of winter and harbouring tons of compliments for this fragrance.

Scent:The initial blast smells strongly of alcohol and something citrusy that is indeed quite similar to a car air freshener like what other reviewers say which kinda lasts between 20-30 minutes and the coconut note as well (Oh how I wish this stage would dissipate ASAP).That stage might worsen during warm temperatures and might give you a huge headache. As it develops further, somewhere in the BG is a creamy dessert which I would assume, the Creme Brulee.

The dry down on my skin smells soooo much like a lemon cupcake muffin which I love.Still, the creaminess lingers.

Longevity:This stays on my skin til I shower the next day.I spray this at 12 pm after showering and it still lingers til 12-1 pm the next day as stays on may hair quite well too and so does on clothes.

Sillage:Not until yesterday til I found out how potent this shit is.At first during my morning work at school where a student told me "I knew you were here because your scent fills up the room".And second,at my afternoon to evening shift when the clients we had which were twins(male) blurted out of how great I smelt and even asked what perfume I was wearing and I was a few feet away from them.

As a guy at 19 wearing this,I can totally say that this might be my signature winter perfume for it is such an amazing scent and a compliment getter plus a head turner for both sexes.I love it so much and will stock up after finishing 2 of my bottles.

addiehominem

Ahh, I love those scents that remind you that cost isn't relevant when it comes to smelling good. This is my first time testing anything from Aquolina, and I'm happy I gave the brand a chance because I actually really like Gold Sugar.

When I sprayed it, it immediately dawned on me that I had smelled it many times before. It must be popular here in Los Angeles, because I believe I remember smelling it in school quite often. It would make sense given its accessibility not only in terms of cost, but also in mass appeal. This is something you'd be hard-pressed to dislike, unless you just -hate- gourmand, sweet smells in general.

To me, it smells like the described creme brulee, softly vanilla, topped with Grand Marnier and set alight so that the sugars are nicely burnt, crispy and delicious. The top notes are distinctly orange, a nice counterbalance to a whole lotta sugar.

A couple of sprays went a long way, which is more than I can say for many body sprays of a similar caliber. The projection is perfect--I left a trail as I went about my day, with my brother commenting that something 'smelled like cookies' whenever I entered a room. Anyone who's ever seen the movie 'Michael' with John Travolta might have a good laugh at smelling like cookies. I rather liked the compliment.

Not everyone wants to smell like dessert, but if you do, Gold Sugar should be right up your alley. The safest blind buy I've come across.

Lucky7z

Blind buy at TJmaxx yesterday!! I had to get it since I've been wanting it and never have seen it anywhere til yesterday.

I love this and on me I pick up immediately coconut, vanilla, hints of musk and crème brulee and faint hints of orange.

Sillage is moderate and longevity is a mix of weak and moderate but reapplying is not a big deal for me because this smells that good!!

IMO this perfume is wearable year round but I
l'll be using this a lot in the spring and summer months.

MixedTastes

This is a great value little gem. Citrus, vanilla and a gentle coconut. Far superior to the more popular Pink Sugar, too, in my opinion (can’t get past the burnt sugar vibe of that one).

I don’t find this cheap smelling at all, either. It reminds me of a slightly ‘fizzier’ YSL Cinema or of the first stage of Armani Code - sweet, creamy, a touch lemony and very much an upbeat, smiley fragrance.

Moderate sillage on my skin and dries down to a skin scent in around two hours. But for under a tenner a bottle, I’m more than happy.

Gourmandlover

Love it! I'm wearing this today and I can't stop sniffing the back of my hand. It's warm, sweet, milky and creamy, it's just yummy!

I agree it acts different in different types of weather. Last year I was wearing it in summer and can remember that longevity was not that great. Now that I'm wearing it in cold weather, it is pretty long lasting. I wear my gourmands in summer also, but this one for me is more satisfying in winter.

socorrosouza

Gold Sugar has different longevity with different skins: on me GS lasts for 11/ 12 hours on cool temps (not a fresh scent at all, in hot temps it is cloying since it is heavy and very sweet). On my skin it is really lovely, reminds me of a lemon mousse with chantilly cream all over. Yummy, lovely smell!!!!!

Piscean-Blue

Uh... Well it's somewhat pleasant but underwhelming. I think a reviewer or two compared this to car freshener and yes that's accurate.

You can pick out the notes listed. Certainly the orange and coconut, the creme brulee, etcetera... What puts it in the "meh" category for me is two things: the overabundance of musk and the lack of staying power. Musk can be a wonderful thing in a fragrance if utilized properly. Here it sort of gets in the way. Somewhere in the heart of Gold Sugar is a terrific scent, but the musk envelops it and doesn't allow it to fly free (hence the "car freshener" feel).

Personally I love coconutty beachy affairs and I was hoping this would be one. Not really. It lacks nuance and delicate balance. Say what you want about the original but the magic came forth.

It's a pass for me. A pleasant pass, but a pass just the same.

Milky coconnut,yum!

Very nice WINTER scent. It wasnt quite cold out when I bought this and i totally didn't like this at all. Tried it again now that its closer to Thanksgiving and it smells totally different!!!! REALLY NICE BROWN SUGARY SCENT!!! Love it now but in the warmer temps I do not like this scent. Season's say everything about a Perfume.

mykabering

I found this at my local TJ Maxx for the price of a Starbucks latte. A perfect cheap pick me up gormand for the winter months. Linear creme brulee, vanilla, musk, and coconut. Too sweet for me to wear all the time, but it is fun, cheap and cheerful. I'm glad I own it but I probably won't repurchase.

mamakatt38

I have had two bottles of this lovely scent and I noticed something kinda weird. The first one I bought from an online fragrance store and it was a creamy sweet coconut scent and I loved it. The second one I bought from an eBay retailer and that bottle didn't have the soft creaminess of the first. It was sharper, more sugary and less coconutty. My guess is that the first one was fresher ( I didn't know about check fresh at the time) , that's why it was more enjoyable. I would recommend it because it's a great scent when you get a bottle in good condition, but be careful where you buy it from. I'd ask for the batch code before purchasing, now that I know better.. I may even buy another bottle.

Albertos

Gold Sugar is cheap as a borscht, and it smells like a million dollars. Love it! Sugar and Gold for you. KISS!

Albertos

Hi. WOW! LOVELY! unisex! SWEET AND YUMMY,orange, coconut and creamy! Best Gold sugar! Love it! 5 stars! Nice scent in fall and winter. Sweet kisses!
edit.My God is a great projection, my skin is over 8h and on my sweater it smells 2 days. wonder! and many compliments. Smells expensive and you are sexy! kisssess.

corkscrewcurly

@polkadot27

Gold Sugar is a rich, creamy and very sexy gourmand. If yours smells of burnt sugar, something has gone very awry.

Your bottle is definitely spoiled, I am afraid.

Albertos

Hi. Thank you my women for answering. I love sweets. blessed! Joy & love for you!

polkadot27

@Albertos. I own this, I bought it blind from USA and it cost a fortune in shipping taxes and honestly this is the most dissapointing blind buy I have ever made. This is not a fragrance or a perfume per se. This makes it difficult to say as to wether it could pass as unisex, because for me personally it isn't even a scent. It smells of burnt brown sugar and has no sweetness to me what so ever. I get no lemon or milky notes that others detect. Just an unpleasant burnt charred smell. Definitely try before you buy, don't blind buy. This was awful in my opinion. You might like it, but just know it is not a safe scent, or a scent at all so to speak. The notes listed that are supposed to be in this fragrance are not detectable in the slightest.

corkscrewcurly

@Albertos

In response to your question whether this is unisex or not... I think you should wear whatever you like. I've had a look at your wardrobe and many of your perfume "loves" are sweet or sweeter than Gold Sugar - so I recommend you go for it!

socorrosouza

It is a very sweet perfume, seems on my skin a very creamy lemon souflee. if you don't mind the aweetness by all means wear. In my country truly very sweet perfumes like Egeo Choc (milk chocolate with cream) are used by men.

Albertos

unisex? yes or not? thanks

michellenz

Awful, bitter and heady! This smells like perfume.that has gone off, hate it.

tony5596

I like this one. It smells just like Garnier Whole Blend Coconut water& Vanilla shampoo and conditioner. So if you're curious to know what this fragrance smell like and you have that particular shampoo and conditioner, then just give it a sniff and you'll know what gold sugar smells like.

jodyleek.1

Seriously, for $11 (which included the shipping), this is a steal! Very yummy gourmand. I was afraid this was going to be cloying, but it is very well blended and has lovely flavors throughout. At first, I smelled lemon meringue pie. Then I got coconut, then creme brûlée, and in the dry down, yes, it's good old Vanilla Fields. So nice for the price! Not a ton of sillage or longevity on this one, but just spray more - it's cheap!

socorrosouza

Lovely, long lasting (over 12 hours), with moderate sillage for 4/5 hours, on my skin it has the scent of a scrumptious lemon creamy pie or mousse, the scent of sicilian lemon (probably the accord of orange flowers+tangerine +orange) ub a chantilly/ creme brulee bed.On my skin the coconut does not appear (which I really prefer) and although very sweet can be worn even on high temps. Delightful, for me the best of Aquolina and indeed one of the best gourmands altogether.

Bollen

Obsessed with this! Love it. If Lancome Hypnose and Laura Mercier Coconut Almond had a baby this is how it would smell...

Edit: Smells expensive, a true creamy citrus gourmand. Stays much closer to the skin than Pink Sugar, but has the same amazing longevity.

phoebe25

This is a lovely, soft vanilla-coconut with just enough florals to keep it from being overly sweet.

Mrs.Allard

To me this is a basic vanilla made more interesting. It has a definite coconut scent to it that is reminicent of Sunblock like others have stated, but still very foods smelling. It also has a definite burnt smell that smells identical to the scent produced when blowtorching Creme brûlée, not the actual taste of it (which is more eggy), but the smell of burning sugar. I don't really get whipped cream from this, but I can definitely see how other get that note. To me whipped cream is more of a subtle cream and sugar scent and this is way more in your face " I'm vanilla!, with coconut and burnt sugar!!!"

ForbiddenCookie

I... I can't do it. I thought I researched this proper before buying, but I cannot stand most of the notes. I'm 90% sure it's the orange blossom that has this hideous metallic vibe, like dirty metal aluminum flakes got liquefied and mixed in accidentally. It was an immediate scrubber for me. However, I sprayed some on a test strip to see how it develops. The middle is dominated by a rather nasty coconut (I think that's what it is, and I love coconut) that lasts for a good long while. However, the far drydown is lovely, and I very much enjoy the crème brule and whipped cream accords. Sillage and longevity at least average, but I can't stomach it long enough to say for sure.

I'm sorry, but this is terrible stuff. I really, REALLY wanted to like it because I was desperately looking for a great creamy and orange scent. I failed. I just can't get past the metal and fake coconut.

shannalg

This just smells like sunscreen. And yet, I don't hate it. But I also wouldn't wear it. I just can't see an occasion for it. It's very coconut-y on. That's really all I can smell at first. Then, it does dry down to the whippedcream which is nice, but there is no projection to it. I can't even smell it on myself unless I put my nose right up to where I sprayed. It's a shame, because Aquolina makes my guiltiest of pleasures when it comes to fragrances.

Twinkle1705

Just scored a smaller bottle at Marshall's for $9.99, blind bought. First spray, hey (son #3), what do you think?" Son #3: " Smells like Fruit Loops!" Me: " No it doesn't...wait...yes it DOES!"

First spray is straight up Fruit Loops. Then it dries down to a burnt sugar/coconut/citrus smell. There is SOMETHING in here that smells a bit synthetic/off-putting to me. You know how the new iteration of Britney Spears Fantasy has that sour kiwi smell that messes it all up? That's what I'm getting in the middle.

The end, however, is where the payoff comes. Straight up Creme brûlée, which I love. I'm just not sure this is something I want to smell like.

Edit: I think this is giving me a headache. This may be one I pass on to one of teen sons' female friends.

rihabi

It's probably my fave from the 'sugar' collection, comparing it to another two that i have /had/. Pink sugar and Simply pink are alike and they have that burnt cotton candy sensation, while this one is firmly different. It feels like an orange with creme brulee on the top. Later it settles more musky and vanilla-creamy.

cmmarti3

Recipe for Aquolina Gold Sugar: Take original Pink Sugar - add a little vanilla, add a little lemon and a dash of orange, remove a large helping of the nauseating over-the-top cotton candy, add a tiny bit of woods and maybe a hint of cashmere, a small drop of coconut and voila!

It's a keeper.

iamoir

-Initially it is a freshly sweet scent. Citrusy fresh and also a cupcake. Very cupcake.
-Continues developing into a sickly sweet, tacky almost scent.
-If you happen to hate gourmands overall, don't even bother. The ones who give them a chance, just because: "well maybe, you never know, it might be nice after all, why not?" wait patiently for the drydown,
-When the tacky sweet cupcake starts smelling all the more better, acquires a powdery facet too and starts smelling like a vanilla-lemon ice-cream dessert. It is rather cooling on the skin, wearable and with less projection, but with a substantial lasting power for an EDT.
-In the after-drydown, as I call it, it turns into a sweet shampooish scent.

Not bad for the brand that released a burnt cotton candy in liquid form. Gold Sugar is by far superior, multifaceted, despite its unoriginality, and developing perfume, gotta admit.

You know, in contrast to Pink Sugar which is hopeless, this one does have potential. There is something in here. They should have tried to add layers to Gold Sugar, why not some florals? Why not some resins? some vetiver? Don't rely on santal and musk: they barely added any...

I get that it's a girl's - teen's perfume, but in proper dosage base notes and florals can only benefit a generical sweetness and not only give it some character, but also "train" those - pray not for ever!- helpless "noses" of the young women into more complex and sophisticated scents.

TonyAKAMrClean

I blind bought this for my girlfriend after I personally came to love Black Sugar. I haven't had time to really evaluate this one (or sneak a wearing for myself), but it's certainly just as pleasant, and smells very similar. Different notes, much lighter, but still shares the same DNA that made me love Black Sugar.

And I bought a 3.4oz bottle for ONLY $10! From what I've smelled, any of the Aquolina scents are worth having around, especially for their price! Maybe one of these days I'll try Silver, since it was actually marketed for men. :)

lel9gds

Too sweet and synthetic to my nose. Wouldn't be good to wear in very hot weather, to me this is a "snuggly" fragrance

islandgirl2015

Way too much orange & synthetic-smelling. Headache-inducing. Really wanted to like this. Gave it away.

UnearthlyApothecary

Mmmm this smells soooo GOOD! This reminds me of Pour Femme with coconut. Rich, creamy, sweet and sexy. I just can't stop sniffing myself lol I love Aquolina, they make the most amazing sweet scents.

mollymish

Orange Blossom, Orange Blossom and more Orange Blossom!
If you like Orange Blossom, then you are on to a winner.
To me this is more fruity floral then a gourmand.
I love gourmands, but this isn't doing it for me.
This is a summer fragrance in my opinion.
I have only just got this. I will edit if my opinion changes.

Edit: I ended up with the worst migraine from this, and I don't suffer from migraines. It eventually did turn into a gourmand, kind of like lemon shortbread. However, I could not enjoy it due to the migraine. It's a shame that the orange blossom is so overdone.
I will have to let this one go.

jessrogue

I'm surprised this is heavily listed as a 'winter' scent by vote... I guess people equate any vanilla including frag to winter for some odd reason? The citrus, floral and coconut SCREAM summertime on a tropical beach at sunset.

Betsywoolbright

I'm struck by the similarities between this and Al Rehab's Dalal. I'm surprised I haven't seen them compared before.

There are differences, to be sure. Dalal is stickier and more caramelly, whereas instead of caramel, Gold Sugar has an almost ozonic whipped cream note, grounded by a heavier smelling creme brulee. GS is much more floral than Dalal, more high-pitched, and somewhat "paler" in color (in my synesthetic mind's eye―not the actual shade of perfume or oil).

But the orange and sandalwood accord is pretty much identical in both. They are both incredibly smooth, likely owing to the sandalwood note.

School was cancelled today, due to a heavy snow we had through the night. I don't have to work today, so my daughter and I decided to go back to bed for a few hours. I thought Dalal would be an appropriate scent to let her wear for "cuddling with Mommy" time, and when I rolled the oil onto her skin, I had to spray Gold Sugar onto myself after smelling this similarity that I'd never noticed before.

I'd always been underwhelmed by Dalal (not a dislike; just ok) and the neroli and orange blossom in Gold Sugar tend to nauseate me. I'm thinking these must be good winter scents, because I keep smelling my daughter's wrists and I'm not getting that queasiness that white florals usually give me, though I can still definitely smell them. Dalal is smelling good on my little girl on this cold day, and Gold Sugar is smelling good on me.

LuLuGoes

I feel compelled to review this again. It's definitely sweet vanilla-coconut, slightly tropical, very gourmand, but remember this has a neroli/citrus start, so it's much more complex than Pink Sugar. I think this is much more sophisticated and interesting than the straight-up hit of cotton candy that Pink Sugar is.

The gold in this one really shimmers, and it changes over the hour dry down, getting sweeter and more sultry somehow. Good staying power. I've received more compliments while wearing this than any other gourmand I own.

Good staying power and sillage. You can get this for steal right now. I feel like this flanker is going to be discontinued, and if that happens, I'll be disappointed and at a loss for how I'll replace it.

I suppose this could go unisex as well. It lands with an earthy musk and sandalwood base.

vos

Lately i tend to crave gourmand scents. Sweet gourmand scents even. witch is a new development in my appreciation of perfume that started with classics like ivoir the Balmain when i was 14 and now ends with sweet budget scents like gold sugar. I tend to do things at my own pace. Go figure..
gold sugar has the vanilla d.n.a. of pink sugar with the coconut and sandalwood giving it a creamy tropical suntan vibe. Comfort scent for sure ,but i only wear it at home alone (since there would be no end to the complaints of family members who deem it too sweet). very long lasting and a great budget buy if you crave sweet coconut.

vanillaamber

I prefer this over Pink Sugar. It took a couple of tries before I got any of the sweet whipped cream, but I did smell it. It is a pleasant, sweet scent. My mom remarked, oh you want to smell like a dessert! And in a joking way like to attract men. Not really, I just love sweet scents and want to smell it for myself, not for men or anything. Lol. I'm single and plan to stay that way a while. I felt a little embarrassed about it, not thinking much about how others may perceive dessert scents. I just happen to love sweets. I would accept any nice compliments but that's as far as it goes, haha.

So, my perfume is for me to enjoy. And I like to smell generally nice when around people. I like anything that is not very loud or offensive to others. Gold Sugar could possibly be too strong if over sprayed. But it is much lighter than Pink Sugar, and much less noticeable.

My canister was sealed and new from Amazon, but the cellophane was dirty when I got it, and the cardboard was dented, so I threw the canister away and kept the bottle. I also had a hard time removing the bottle like others have said.

I probably should have bought a back up bottle when I found it on sale. Instead, I bought two Pink Sugars, and ended up liking Gold more!!

lauren.moss

First of all, I can totally understand the mixed reception Gold Sugar has in the reviews below. However you imagine this will smell, it probably won't meet your expectations. Whether that's a good or bad thing depends on the nose.
I acquired this as a blind buy birthday present from my sister - and the other reviews complaining about how tightly the bottle is packed in the box were not wrong! Thankfully both the box and bottle survived without cuts or scratches, but it took a full ten minutes of poking and prodding before it dropped out onto the bedspread!
On first spray, I was shocked at the potent orange. I hadn't anticipated how strong that top note would be. I wanted creamy sugary vanilla goodness. I probably wasn't in the right frame of mind for a gourmand if I'm honest - even if it sounds an ideal christmas fragrance (my birthday falls at the start of december) it just didn't feel right until about a week or so into January. I don't know why (no, actually I do know why, and it's mother nature's fault), but I woke up one morning craving caramels and chocolates. Right before I got to work I spritzed a little of gold sugar, and my sugar starved senses did a happy dance and sought out the desert under that orange syrup - creamy perfect vanilla that takes a little patience to reach.
I think the orange is best thought of as kind of a place holder - I can't help but wonder how much more I'd love this if there were cherries instead, or simillar berry note... perhaps even a dried fruit like dates? ALMONDS. My god can you imagine an almond note in this. Even with the orange, Gold Sugar has really grown on me. If you do blind buy it, make sure to give it some time to persuade you, because the creme brulee is worth the wait.

ealaf.selim

It was a blind buy which turned out a very very sweet coconut scent cloying scent. I like coconut scents but I didn't like this one that much so I gave it away...

soobee11

The *worst* blind buy I've ever made in the 45+ years I've been purchasing/wearing scent. As I lean towards the gourmands, I had a great deal of anticipation when I ordered this online. Holy smokes, what a huge and rude disappointment! The initial blast was a horrid orange chemical cleaner, which made me recoil from my wrist, with burning eyes and a hacking gasp. Absolutely dreadful, even sickening. I waited for what I hope would be a better drydown payoff, but all it left was a very synthetic coconut and an off-orange, burnt dreg. Couldn't wash that junk off quickly enough. Did I get a had bottle? I dunno, but it was from a reliable e-tailer, so I think not. Very disappointed with this waste of money. UGH.

Soofiya

Received it today and I love it more than my expectations,I can name it a very successful blindbuy
I can get sweet orange and coconut from the first whiff and this sweet orange stays all through the development but even if you hate citruses don't be worried.it's not sour or sharp and appears in a veryyy creamy, milky, warm and sweet base, very delicious
Whipped cream, cream brulee, coconut milk and sandalwood ground Orange and produce a very delightful and yummy orange-coconut cream.it's bright, warm and lovely and not a watery, faint scent.it's totally gourmand, very creamy and if you're looking for an orange-coconut flavoured creme I believe you can't find anything better
I also love it's golden bottle
Gold sugar is my third aquolina perfume(pink sugar and chocolover were first and second) and I love all these three.they're all foody gourmands, multi faceted, original, memorable and potent.I'd love to try other aquolinas it's shame they're unavailable where I live
Edit:you should put it upside down in it's box.if you put it right, you can't take it out of box.I did so and had no choice but cut it's box with seasors.and it's bottle can be scratched easily.it's golden color becomes ruined with stains.now I'm very sad because I loved it's bottle and now I feel it has scars :(
2nd edit: if you'd like to try a gold sugar without orange, give beyonce heat wild orchid a go.I find them very similar but orange is replaced with a touch of berry like fruits in wild orchid
❤❤❤❤
Edit:
Now I have used it enough to talk about it's development in time
First phase is orange-coconut flavoured whipped creme.it's pretty potent in this stage and people around will notice you with a very yummy scent which some will find strange for a perfume, many will guess you're carrying a dessert not that you're wearing a perfume.after noticing that it's actually a perfume many people are going to ask it's name
This stage lasts for 1-2 hours on me.gradually orange fades away and in second stage you're left with a coconut-creme brulee.this stage is also very foody and yummy but warmer and softer in sillage.I sometimes can detect a touch of burnt sugar sprinkled on top of it and sometimes not.though first stage is more unique and has some orangey freshness, I prefer second stage because sometimes I feel orange doesn't go well with coconut
After some time, something perfumey/not foody starts hoovering in the background which seems to be floral-musk-sandalwood combo. I start to pickup orange flower which blends beautifully with creamy gourmand notes.it becomes a bit less coconuty.this stage is my favorite,it smells heavenly to my nose .well I enjoy it all through it's life but if it lasted as that buttery,100% foody orange-coconut of the opening it would become nauseating, like eating a sweet and delicious dessert for hours which would feel gagging instead of enjoyable but luckily it develops on skin.in it's lovely drydown I can also feel a soft touch of powder.this is what lasts on your skin until it fades but in last hour I feel right out of the shower and beachy vibe at the same time.like stepping out of shower(and probably washing your hair or body with an orangey shampoo)and then wearing a coconuty sunscreen lotion.it doesn't feel foody anymore.it more feels clean/shampooyee/sun tan lotiony
All in all I believe it's truely original and interesting but it's also something that I can wear just when I'm in it's mood. I can't even think of wearing it often(maybe I could if it didn't take 3 hours to reach it's drydown) but for a sunny day on beach or when you want to wear something different and fun it's very suitable
If you dislike coconut or dislike foody gourmands stay far away
n th edit :D
Boy I LOVE it so much now that I'm sure I can't live without it! Maybe because I'm craving coconut a lot these days.this is my best coconut perfume.when I first bought it,I felt there's lots of orange in it all through it's life and orange-coconut combo feels kind of wierd sometimes;but now orange doesn't last long.it stands in shadow after less than 20mins and leaves me in a coconut-whipped cream-creme brulee heaven.soooo yummy in a creamy, milky way.there's nothing sharp or scratchy.and yes,it's sweet and totally gourmand but it's not sickly sweet IMO,maybe because still a hint of orange freshness,or maybe because it's clean, there's a hint of clean powder mingling with this yummy cream
It's also great for layering purposes.if you want to add a sweet, delicious and creamy undertone to your other perfumes, gold sugar is what you need
Now I can easily detect orange flower-neroli-musk in it's dry down.t may seem a very simple gourmand, like pink sugar, but actually it's not.there's more going on here.
Pink sugar, blacksugar, gold sugar and chocolover they're all amazing.I wish aquolina to create another perfume from this line, something widely available

Coffee_Girl

This starts off as a chemically induced orange that became a little too cloying for me. I am a fan of the original Pink Sugar and although that one is also synthetic, it was heavily obscured by the caramel and vanilla. Gold Sugar is a victim to what is usually common amongst cheap citrus based fragrances; it smells a little like cleaning products.

The effect is not immediately noticeable; in fact I had to really look for it (I’m so picky!). Gold sugar is still a decent fragrance, and for the price this is worth a second glance.

I bought this flanker based on the notes; I mean crème brulee is my favorite dessert so how could I pass? GS smells like delicious cream and egg tart, the coconut sets a tropical tone that feels a little beachy. The main components are pretty simple; it’s basically custard, cream, and coconut with a tart base. It’s linear and can become a little boring.

I don’t dislike Gold Sugar, it’s just generic gourmand. If you’re interested in something basic and nice, I think this fragrance might temporarily fulfill your cravings.

Eau De Rous

This man's first impression is that Aquolina Gold Sugar fragrance soon reminds me very much of Coty Vanilla Musk and a little of Dumont Tendre Madeleine, both of which are often criticized as masculine women's fragrances (which is why I own and would wear them).

I find this Aquolina a tad synthetic after the opening's shock of orange citrus' close shop (quicker on skin than paper). That opening isn't surprising: the perfumer lists those specific notes as neroli, orange, and mandarin orange whilst there's orange blossom in the heart too. On paper they have respectable longevity but one way or another eventually those fade and we have a middle that's feminine smoothed vanilla. Vanilla's not listed but that's what I get, surrounded by girly, and a little musky, sweetness, not the other way around. I don't find "whipped cream" per se but, know what?, when I look for it coconut is there but not pronounced, just there sharing space. I do find the middle and base somewhat linear; that bit's well done but may also be a problem.

Starting in the mid the synthetic element is passing, and this continues and coincides into the dry down as the citrus and coconut goes with it and I cannot distinguish them any longer, nor this fragrance much from what I remember more linear Vanilla Musk smelling like. I like, but do not love, the Coty. I think I could learn not to dislike this Gold Sugar. Right now I am confused as to whether it's cheap (I know it's inexpensive -- my 30 ml. was US$12) or well blended with some character (with the "synthetic" experience I'm getting it could actually be both or either) but it will need some real world real wearing and begs a direct comparison with Vanilla Musk I look forward to making (and maybe with Tendre Madeleine as well).

Nataliemarie

I LOVE Orange, & def do not get it here. If it is there, it's gone instantly. This is a Creme Brulee Scent. If that's you, buy it. A Skinscent. I think it is a base to be built on. Add Chocolate, Or Orange Blossom, Jasmine, Leather, LIME! But I cannot wear this by itself. It may last long, but there is just not enough actual "Scent" for me. If you are someone that wants a sweet little scent that stays in the background, this may be for you. For me, it's a Lego. I am experimenting...

UPDATE NOV 11 - This has grown on me. I think it was the blast of citrus at the beginning that turned me off, but that soon disappears to reveal the heart of a foody coconut and vanilla. It is sort of similar to Friction and Fancy..but still different enough to purchase! It also reminds me of my beloved MAC MV2 fragrance which was the ultimate foody vanilla - so a good replacement for that one...sort of! Loving this in the fall. Lasting power is ok...have not had any compliments, so not sure how far it projects. I spray it on quite liberally so i think it sits quite close to the skin.

Meh - I had been waiting 2 weeks for this to arrive - needless to say, I was underwhelmed. Initial blast smells artificial almost bubble gummy. That soon fades to expose a vanilla coconut. I expected it to be foodier like...but not so. After another 10 mins it becomes foodier I would say and can smell vanilla with faint coconut sort of like Victoria Secret Vanilla Lace - I thought quite boring.

I don't see similaries to Friction for her...more so to Fancy I would say...but I prefer Fancy.

Will update once I've given it a bit more time to evolve on my skin.

chickincanada

if perfumes are stories, it's a one liner without any punchlines for Gold Sugar. There's no beginning, no middle, but there is a tragic end.

I had high hopes based on the glowing reviews. How lovely to smell delicious creme brulee, my favourite dessert, or even anything remotely real.

On me I get a blast of synthetic plasticky-vanilla that reminds me of how Casmir smells on me. It essentially stays that way without changing and after a couple of hours, it (thankfully) just disappears.

It seems those who love this hates Pink Sugar. So if that's true then I'm on the polar opposite, as I enjoy Pink Sugar in her lovely licorice vibe (at least it smells real) and I can definitely just leave this.

It's not offensive, but very boring and cheap smelling on me. It goes to show how personal perfumes are, from how you think they smell on you to how they make you feel.

maeha.vn

Have just received it today. IMO, the opening was too strong and loud that could make those with sensitive nose go dizzy for a few mins. It reminded me of Sarsi, a sarsaparilla soft drink popular in Asia which is funny in fact. I couldn't stand it so I washed it away with water to skip over those annoyed first notes. Thankfully, it smoothed down to a sweet lovely cream brulee with a light hint of coconut right after and remain like that for hours.
This one you can blind buy with no worry, and it's kind of fit the budget since the longevity is good and doesn't smell too childish. :)
Edit: One more thing, I don't like the package at all, the bottle was made from glass but the container was a carton tube with two plastic caps on tops. which stayed too close to the bottle. Therefore the first one I received from delivery was broken and I almost wrote a bad review about how sickening the smell was. :(

Marissaluvsscents

Blind bought and received it today. Super yummy and doesn't smell cheap. It reminds me of Sensi and Hanae Mori mixed or something! Very rich, and sexy.

who.am.i.you

This is such a surprise for me. I ordered this and Black Sugar at the same time online. I made sure to order a smaller bottle of the Gold Sugar because I was so sure I wouldn't enjoy it as much. It's funny how that works out because it seems that I reach for this a lot! The Black Sugar isn't as summer-friendly, so it seems like I wore Gold Sugar more for that reason, but find myself still wearing it often. It layers well with most of the lotions, fragrance mists, and perfumes I often wear. It adds a certain creamy depth to many amber-based perfumes. It is definitely sweet, but in a sunny kind of way versus a cotton candy sweetness, if that makes any sense. It could be the coconut. I wouldn't say this is a coconut-centered perfume however, but more like an accent to the overall dish. Since there's a creme brulee note in it, I suppose it wouldn't be so far-reaching to say that it smells like the kind of coconut that would be found atop the dessert in the form of a coconut whipped cream or something. It's more elegant than a creamsicle kind of smell, but kind of like that. I don't really like that I can't see how much I've used in this bottle. I have to shake it and listen to get a sense.

Eyviab

Such a comforting scent! This is a love for me! The coconut smothered in creme burlee and covered with citrus notes and orange blossoms on top just delicious creamy goodness I'm at a loss for words! Sillage is good and longevity on my skin thankfully is long a good 10hrs+!!! If your looking for a cozy coconut this is it!

I love this. It does start with a burst of orange or citrus, which isnt my thing, but it goes away pretty quick then you smell like decadent coconut cake all day. The longevity on this is amazing. I sprayed it on before going out for the day and pretty much drove my husband nuts all day long. Def rebuying.

I'm not sure what I was expecting with Gold Sugar. Pink Sugar was completely rancid and incinerated cotton candy to me, and I was really put off by it. Aquolina is known for their sweet, sweet perfumes. I was somehow expecting this to be along the same sweetness as, say, Hypnotic Poison.
Gold Sugar is definitely very sweet, and can definitely be cloying. However, this is a VAST improvement from Pink Sugar IMO. The ethyl maltol overdose is cranked down to a more reasonable level, though it is, again, still very sweet. That vague rancid, screechy sour note in Pink Sugar is completely eliminated. While the scent is still very young at heart, Gold Sugar's target audience is definitely wider than PS. Even though all the notes put together seem juvenile, I strangely get classy vibes from Gold Sugar.
After the strong alcohol fumes in the initial spray, it opens with bright citrus fruit and flowers with milk. Honestly, my first thought that came to mind was "orange blossom creamsicle". After that the citrus dissipates, and is replaced by coconut creme brulee--freshly torched, of course. It basically stays like that and it settles down into a milky, vanillic sweet musk.
As with all of Aquolina fragrances, Gold Sugar has great sillage. This stuff smells EDIBLE, 100%, from start to finish. It doesn't smell like "oh, that's perfume!", but more like haute dessert! The bad thing about this is that it makes me hungry, lol. It's completely delicious. I can see how others find this could be masculine, but in my opinion this is more unisex since dessert knows no gender.
I probably won't be wearing this one on a daily basis, but I don't regret purchasing it because it was such a fun fragrance with a cheap price. It does have a synthetic quality to it, but I was never expecting niche-type quality for this price point--we have to be reasonable! I'm going to keep it around during the winter for a pick-me-up.

ecofreak2001

What can I say that it hasn't been said before. Absolutely gorgeous scent;sweet & long lasting. Bought it for the creme brulee & coconut notes which mixed with the citrus notes makes a wonderful dessert sophisticated smell. Great addition to any collection.

hippydiva

Masculine?!? To me, this is about as far from masculine as a perfume could get! Delicious vanilla & coconut, with orange coming through a bit also. Pretty strong at first, but mellows out nicely & lasts for a long time! I normally wear this in the fall, because on its own, I fee like it's too strong to wear in the summer heat. I did actually do one spray of this on my stomach, and also a spray of Body Shop's Satsuma, to enhance the citrus notes...I so enjoyed walking around smelling like an Orange Dreamsicle all day :-)

But really, go get some Gold Sugar. Got a large bottle you were gonna throw away? Hit me up. Seriously, PM me. I'm not too proud to leave a diamond in the street; I'll take a castoff! OR...don't throw it away, take it to your local women's shelter (or man's) and donate it.
Lots of people are down on their luck and become homeless or had to leave an abuser with no notice, leaving all their stuff behind...I bet it would be appreciated if they had a few nice things so they don't feel like a piece of rubbish no one cares about, or to spruce up for a job interview, etc.

Thanks Aquolina for Gold Sugar! Please consider reviving it!

Dead sexy on a man!

I own all the 'Pink Sugar' line except Blue Sugar (simply because it's by far the priciest) and Gold Sugar is my favorite...because my man wears it and pulls it off spectacularly.
This IS a unisex fragrance, despite being 'sweet'. It's the sandalwood and musk, I guess; I doubt Pink Sugar would work on him. But the Pink-Sugar-y parts of Gold Sugar are NOT too feminine to work on a guy, even a manly-man.
He is a big guy, ex-footballer, business owner, ex sports TV producer, blah blah, and this is the scent he reaches for more than any other.
It's not just for my benefit either; he takes it when he travels and I stay home. So. He applies in the morning, but it's still recognizably there in the evening, though more creme brûlée-musky than creme brûlée-citrusy. So lasting power is at least ten hours on him. Sillage is moderate; I can smell him in the bathroom from the bedroom for like ten minutes, then from 3-5 feet away for 2-3 hours, and for the rest of the ten hours, it's a scent you smell when you go to shake hands or hug scent, which is fine for me. I'd rather not blast people six cubicles down anyway, but I suppose you MIGHT be able to if you apply differently ( he does two sprays at most, under his shirt, nothing else).

I'm telling you, it's HOT. Scents sold for women are not off limits for confident men. Sean Connery is a fan of Jicky, for Pete's sake, which was also worn by Jackie O. Does he strike anyone as girly in the LEAST?? Mm-mm, nope.

If you despise gourmand no matter HOW adult it is (like if you even loathe Black Opium and Shalimar, etc because they're too sweet and sugary and girly for you) then I guess give this a pass. ( this is much sweeter than any of those, I'm just saying it's much moodier than Pink Sugar). But if you like a dark, naughty gourmand, or if you WANT to like Pink Sugar but it's just too unrelentingly 'happy' and ‘basic’ for you, try this.
If you fit the above description and you are looking for something for your man, try this or Steel Sugar (or Blue, I guess, but that goes for a hundred a bottle while you can easily get this for thirty or less).

Mm.

LLB_addict

Wow. AMAZING. That is the word to best describe this fragrance. I cannot get enough of it past my nose. I so wished it lived longer on my skin. That is the only. negative to use when describing this juice. Every time I go through my bottles and find that I have 3 bottles of this, I wonder why I have so many. Then I spray it on my wrists........and swoon. Again. This whole line is fantastic and different in their own ways.

CherriedEmpress

Ohhh my gosh! I can't believe how AMAZING this smells! I've had Pink Sugar for maybe 2 years and love it. I don't feel the need to search for any other "straight vanilla" scent. The vanilla role has been taken permanently by Pink Sugar, period! However, I never thought to give any other Aquolina fragrances a chance.

Where has this BEEN all my life?! Gold Sugar totally exceeded my expectations, which were not low to begin with. As soon as I opened the package, I smelled this delicious, milky, sweet coconut radiating. I knew it was a winner before I even sprayed it.

The citrus is a fresh orange. Neroli oil is actually the oil extracted from the bitter orange flower. The two smell similar, but neroli is a little crisper and more astringent. Both citrus notes are blended beautifully with the gourmand notes -- coconut, creme brulee (which offers creamy vanilla), warm sandalwood, light musk. The drydown allows the base notes -- sandalwood and musk -- to take center stage.

The overall effect is like a rich, milky orange + vanilla dessert. It's WARM. It is inviting. Longevity is something to brag about. It's been at least 6 or 7 hours and I can still smell myself. Sillage would not overpower anyone, but it would still make heads turn.

I could see men going into ape mode over Gold Sugar. Actually, I think most people would be thrown into ape mode over this.

It reminds me of Al-Rehab Dalal, but Dalal is boozier and not as warm. You could absolutely layer the two. They share so many similarities and have the exact same "vibe".

The 3.3 oz (100 ml) is easily found for $12 to $14 bucks on eBay. How could you go wrong? It smells many times more expensive.

thehazysea

I'm shocked that I haven't seen any comparisons to the Hanae Mori pink butterfly fragrance! I own both and they smell very similar to me, Gold Sugar is just missing the babydoll strawberry note (thus making it somewhat wearable for me). It's a little too milky/sticky for a summer fragrance imo...I'll be excited to break this out when it starts snowing and see if it fairs better then.

Akarui_hana

Well I am not a gourmand fan but I sure enjoy this one. Nothing too complicated or extravagant, but oh so fun to wear! I am wearing it now during the summer, it works wonders.
To me it is a lovely perfume for the beach. The coconut and oranges give it a nice tropical feel while the "creme brulee" or whatever cupcake-y note they added makes it deliciously creamy and smooth.

A holiday scent/ a scent that makes you feel like you are on holiday.
I get medium longevity - about 4-5 h, and nice projection.

I am so glad I blind-bought this crazy little piece of joy!

polkadot27

I bought this because I badly wanted a creme brulee perfume. I mean who wouldn't want to smell of creme brulee? I know of no other perfumes with the note creme brulee, if you do please message me. Anyway I ordered this blindly from the USA because this line of fragrance is not available in the UK. When I first sprayed it I got no creme brulee, I got an awful chemical undone cheap smelling concoction of lime orange lemon and neroli or some similar concoction along those lines. It smelled very cheap, I felt very dissapointed. An hour or two later, I do detect this beautiful creamy sugary scent on my skin where i sprayed. But it is very soft and barely there, but it does smell beautiful warm sugary sweet and comforting, I really like it. But the downside is there is no sillage with this fragrance at all, unless someone has there nose pressed up to your skin there is no way they will smell this scent on you.

I will keep this perfume because the notes are unique, and the drydown although barely detectable is very creamy and yummy. But the opening is awful and so is the silage. Aquolina is a rather cheap fragrance house so I suppose you get what you pay for with these fragrances.

Scent=6/10
Sillage=3/10
Longevity=6/10
Bottle=3/10 I personally hate gold perfume bottles they are so tacky! Lady million is the worst!

GourmandGirl

My goodness this is good stuff! I'm a gourmand addict, hence the name, and this fits the bill perfectly! I just want to lick my arm when smelling it!

The creme brulee and coconut...what a heavenly combo! The only slight criticism is that i get a slight Britney Fantasy vibe from this, but I can live with that as it's so nice!

I do think that this could be used in any season as the coconut gives it a tropical vibe for summer, but the creme brulee gives it a warm vibe for winter, so a winner all round. It's quite strong, and I do love my powerhouses, had it on a few hours and still going strong.

I recommend this if you love your sweet gourmands like me, you won't be disappointed!

krissykatpawz81

My second attempt to leave my review lol ok....so Gold sugar is like gold sugar sand shining on my legs from the warm sun on my legs, the feeling of warm sand, while my kids play on the beach as i smell orange cremesickle pops, laughing talking applying coconut tannning brule, vanilla mixed in,,as i see sandcastles on the beach smelling goldsugar&sunshine. Looking up at God's creation the sky, giving persons talents of making a happy casual perfume thats warm yet light perfect

Got this in a giveaway and have been wearing it often. It's a love for me! An easy to wear, comfy, sweet summery scent. Gold Sugar, to me, is the perfect hot-weather gourmand. It's definitely sugary, but not sticky in the heat. The coconut and citrus are there to keep it fresh. The main star here is definitely the crime brûlée....it just surrounds you with a fluffy, creamy cloud of custardy comfort. Ah, I love smelling like food :)

medea_svenspoa

I don't usually like the gourmands or the "sugar" family, but I make an exeption for this one. I like the creme brulee and coconut note with a hint of neroli. Very summery, for all ages and day-to-night time.

SuzanneS

I like it... its got a beachy summer vibe and the drydown is the best part. The citrus can be a little rough but it tames down. It layers well with jovan island gardenia if you want a more floral vibe with it or comptoir sud pacifique vanille coco to add vanilla and punch up the coconut leaning creamy gourmand. Its very versitile.

Nikinoo

Got this in a tester bottle I mean for the price I thought why not, at first spray it was sorta chemicals but then it has dried down to a really nice buttery rich scent. It smells like a high end sun lotion. I really like this scent.

Cel405

I purchased this blindly a few weeks ago and I am completely enamored over it! I don't find this masculine in the least. That's not to say that a man would not smell incredible in this. It's a heady, creamy, coconut, with just a breeze of tropical sweetness and citrus. I think the coconut in this is very well done. Sometimes I find that it can come across as very artificial / synthetic smelling, but not this gem. It's rich and gorgeous.

A little goes a long way with this scent and the silage is decent, but not huge. I'm definitely buying more once this bottle is gone.

blake.lee

Chemistry is such a strange thing. This fragrance is about as far from masculine as it gets on me. The top note are a creamy lemon and it reminds me very much of the top notes of Lemon Cloud (Nuvol De Llimona). In fact, I find them a little similar throughout, but Gold Sugar is heavier and sweeter. The drydown on me is a thick, custard like vanilla. Very cosy and foody with little to no citrus at all.

mrs.ralph

blind buy. not my thing though. i have a 1oz. bottle if someone wants to trade for more of a citrus sent.

Faela

MASCULINE MASCULINE MASCULINE

I get a massive blast of harsh citrus notes that smell more like bergamot than anything else. It is not the sweet, pleasant coconutty scent that I was aspiring to have. It's straight up citrus all the way. An extremely masculine guy at work even sprayed it on himself and told me that it smelled extremely unisex and that he liked and accepted it more as a man's cologne - which I agree. Then my guy friend told me that he pictured a guy in a suit wearing this. Not my cup of tea; too masculine for my tastes.

arabbel

This starts out like a soft spongy cake, with a hint of coconut and an even softer hint of sweet (not tart or fresh) lemon. Fairly synthetic but still nice smelling.

After a couple minutes it becomes sudsy soapy, and the end result for me is that it smells like taking a bubble bath in the initial smell listed above.

like whoa yeah

To me this smells like a fresh bakery filled with lemon poppy seed muffins.

pipergirl

I sure am loving this one. Gold Sugar is a bit reminiscent of 2012 Pour Femme but I think that the two fragrances develop very differently and in the end are very different from each other. Gold Sugar has a fun coconut cake/tropical vibe to it that makes it more "foody", perhaps less versatile, than Pour Femme is. Gold Sugar is more like a gourmand, tropical suntan lotion. It's pineapple upside down cake sprinkled with wet slivers of coconut - delicious. I wore this at a beautiful and breezy outdoor festival the other day and it was perfect for the occasion.

Ferminadaza

Meh no.

Purchased a bit ago. Finally pulled out to wear on a 75 degree early spring day. I get the blast of citrus cream but then...where did it go?

My consternation over the disappearing scent caused me to create a bit of perfume anarchy. I layered my Guerlain Spiritueuse Double Vanille.

Welp...never did get the coconut-y yumminess of which every one speaks. No creme brulee either.

Instead, I experienced wonderful wafts of smoky leathery vanilla all day long, so my perfume day wasn't a complete loss. Thanks Monsieur Guerlain.

There was one brief second where I got this delightful orangy creamy milky smoky vanilla that was almost tear inducingly beautiful. Then it was gone.

While I only needed to apply the SDV once in the morning, I carried the bottle of GS with me and spritzed all day.

All.

Day.

Nothing.

I've never been anosmic to anything.

I tried. I really did. I so wanted to love Gold sugar.

Spiritueuse is no cheap juice, and as such I don't tend to throw it around haphazardly--- I think I get an A+ for really trying to make it work with Gold Sugar.

tinadee

I love sweet scents, but unfortunately I didn't care for this one at all. It contains a note I dislike. I can't put my finger on it, but I'd say perhaps it's orange meringue or something similar. I also found it to be very musky on me. I didn't smell coconut or creme brulee - just a musky vanilla/orange meringue. I returned it.

Kon-nos91

I finally found Aquolina's Gold Sugar to try. I've seen many reviews, many positives but many negatives too. I am so looking forward to try Pink Sugar, the classic one but I have a feeling it will be too girly compared to this one. I could easily add Gold Sugar to my collection. I am a gourmandise perfume lover and I think the whole blend of it it's good. If I could compare it to a more 'mature' perfume, not the notes but the character/style, this would be Estee Lauder-Bronze Goddess. Gold sugar is ideal for summer days, but not the super hot ones. The bottle is heavy, bright and simple. It's so reminds me of a sweet skin's smell after a walk in a greek island under the sun. A pleasant suntan lotion smell. Slightly orangey that fades away and transforms fast to a creamier base. Naturally sweet smelled skin. You could almost smell all the listed notes of it but the general idea is the suntan milky lotion. All in all, a very good price for such a perfume and nice sillage that hugs the skin. If I could describe with words Gold Sugar would be pure confidence and a bit sexy during a happy summer.

jeremyn87

Gold Sugar starts off with a somewhat boozy and candied citrus. Think of an arancello.
It quickly begins to transition to the creamy coconut heart, and gets a little chaotic. After a few minutes, the creamy coconut begins to set and the fragrance smooths out. You can smell the arancello complementing the coconut. The citrus dissipates after a while, and you have a creamy coconut, decadent vanilla, some bright caramel (this is not a dark, burnt caramel or creme brulee smell), and some faint florals, lasting for quite a few hours.
I eventually get a bit of a sandalwood note towards the end of the fragrance after the coconut starts to disappear. It's not a dry sandalwood, but a slightly spicy and very creamy one. Think of the sandalwood counterpart to the patchouli in Angel Men.
This is, without a doubt, the longest lasting coconut I have ever smelled. The coconut note lasts for at least 6 hours on my skin, if not closer to 8. It's not quite a fresh or tropical note, though. It's more like the coconut cream wafers, or an undiluted pina colada mixer.

This is unisex, leaning towards feminine. A man can pull this off, and I do, but it's not as neutral as Amen, Rochas Man, New Haarlem etc.

Longevity is excellent. I get around 10-12 hours with 3 or 4 sprays.
Projects decently for 5 or 6 hours.
This isn't a beast mode fragrance, which is how Black Sugar is described. But it performs excellently; especially the note which almost never lasts too long (the coconut).

letoilenoire

Terrible. I was very excited by the creme brulee and whipped cream notes in the scent description, so bought as a blind buy. To me this smells like citrus and coconut. The citrus never calms down on me, so I feel like I smell like a mixed drink, specifically cheap coconut rum with lime in it. I had to wash it off, because it was giving me a headache and lasted forever on my skin. I also get a suntan lotion vibe from it. No bueno.

unsrsly

This is just awful. It was a blind buy and I hated it. The notes looked so nice but it smells just like bug spray. It is nothing like pink sugar. Gives me a headache instantly. Basically is a mixture of bug spray and suntan lotion. So bad.

NightShade6

Expected much more.
It's not terrible, just wasn't what I thought it would be. Smelled like a melted orange creamsicle.
Scent - 4/10
Longevity - 2/10
Projection - 3/10

Sassygirl18

This one is just okay. It reminds me a lot of Warm Vanilla Sugar from Bath & Body Works. A very simple vanilla fragrance.

hithorys

It's what it says on the tin: Crème Brulee, Whipped Cream, and Coconut. It's like a macaroon: toasty, nummy, goodness. Could Florian Bellanger turn his nose up at this one? Perhaps ...but it'd be a stretch. ;-)

-I also review perfumes safe for migraine sufferers and this one has neither caused one nor aggravated one.

chanelnumerocinq

I remember trying Gold Sugar by Aquolina and really liking it. I put it on my fragrantica wish list and moved on with life. Over time my reasons for liking it became less clear I just knew that once up on a time I wanted it.

Excitedly bought it on sale at TJ Maxx. Took it home and sprayed it on and immediately the first thought I had was “This was a mistake” I’m not into sweet simple foody vanilla which at first spray I thought this was the type of fragrance it was. After wearing it a few times I realized it’s more than that. It’s crème brûlée , which I don’t know if that’s better or worse. On one hand it smells delicious and edible. On the other it has a tangy dairy quality, and whenever I find that in a perfume it turns me off it. I don’t desire to smell like dairy product not even in the slightest. There is a touch of coconut, which I think is what drew me to the perfume in the first place. There is also a subtle marshmallow sugary note which I am also not into.

If you’re into simple yummy gourmand, that’s you , that’s your taste try this. Gold Sugar is very creamy and very gourmand. It’s not bad it’s just so not me.

shell_bell

Everyone is stating that this comes across for them as tropical and beachy and something for the summer months - I get just the opposite. On my skin it's cozy and warm and meant for sweater-weather by the fire.

The citruses are almost a turn off at the beginning but they quickly dissolve and allow the delicious creme brulee/sweet whipped cream combination to take over for the duration. The coconut and musk are there but so overtaken by the "pastry notes" so as to be nearly non-existent.

This perfume calls to mind autumn and hay rides, apple-picking or even Christmas time singing carols with your family as you trim the tree. It might work for the summer and I'll certainly give it a try when it rolls back around but right now I'm using this over the winter as it seems, on my skin, to be MADE for that.

I've read it layers nicely with Manifesto or Cavalli Gold and since I have both of those I'll give them a try. On its own this smells NOTHING like Cavalli Gold but I've actually been craving an extra oomph for that skin scent and this should be the perfect marriage. :)
