I love love love this scent
This is something I would keep in my collection forever.
It has a slight smoky vibe-with leather and the citrus stands out .. it’s so well balanced .
It’s edgy .. very unisex … makes me feel so dangerous lol 😂 I just LOVE it !

DylanMcKay

I can appreciate the smell - raspberries and leather - warm and fruity. But it’s way too sweet for my taste - quite feminine.

VirgowithLeo

I do not like this
Woody super peppery/earthy

Kasseus

I love fruit and leather together and this is just chefs kiss! Sooo good. Not a crowd pleaser but I just love it. It’s dark and warm but kinda fresh at the same time because of the Juniper and grapefruit. I wear this all year round and it’s perfect!

Kekedenae

Smells just like De Marly Godolphin

SaintJoanie

Somebody a few reviews down brought up a car air freshener, and even though I genuinely like wearing this perfume, I can't help but agree a little. The same goes for reviews that bring up a sort of covered-up cigarette smoke vibe. I assume it's the combination of the sweetness of the raspberry, the leather, and the saffron, which can come across as plasticky to some, that evokes the combination of car, smoke, and perfume. That being said- I like Black Saffron quite a lot. It's bright and bold, not entirely groundbreaking as far as fruity leather scents go but still sophisticated and comfy. It's not nearly as dirty/smoky as some of the above descriptions make it sound- the smoke is really just a suggestion underneath what's otherwise a really smooth, wearable evening scent. I think it gives it some character. I tend to reach for this one when I want something that's approachable, cool, and casual-fancy while still showing a bit of personality.

pisces3774

Wow- a friend just passed on a travel size of Black Saffron to me. I spritzed it and found it familiar. Then I realized that it smells very much like something I already own: A.N OTHER FL/2018! AN is a little sweeter, brighter, more rounded out, and complex than BS. BS is a little more leathery. But nearly identical.

d12south

Delicious with a hint of tobacco smoke on my skin.

#619 in my "Tour de Fragrance"

This after noon while enjoying a root canal, one of my endodontist's assistants said, "You smell great by the way."
"Mancera Instant Crush", I responded.
She said, "You're into fragrances?"
"More like obsessed," I replied.
"What's your favorite Parfums de Marly?" she asked.
"Godolphin" I answered.
"I don't know that one," She said.
"So you're into fragrances?" I asked.
"You should see my collection," she said, "I've got like fifty bottles."
I resisted the impulse to say, "I'll show you mine, if you show me yours." It's a workplace after all. But I did return with three fragrances for her collection that embody her expressed tastes. She was delighted. Reward enough. Sharing is what makes this all so much fun!

Anyway, it's no surprise that since I love the fruitiest PDM frag I love this Byredo raspberry tart of a fragrance. Raspberries and leather. To be more accurate. "RASPBERRIES!!!" and leather. A lot of fragrances claim to be fruity. This is fruity, but it's not overwhelmingly sweet and the combination of florals and leather set it off like a raspberry field in bloom. But it is not unique. Someone mentioned Amouage Black Iris as similar. Not even a little. Atelier Oud Saphir? Please. Ombre Leather? No. Montale Aoud Leather? Also no. I have all but the Atelier which I have sampled, and they are not in the same ballpark. Godolphin is similarly fruity, but the fruits don't make themselves individually known. Tuscan Leather and it's clone La Yuqawam, are both very, very close, but a little less raspberry forward to my nose. Enough that I can tell the difference, but it's a difference without a lot of distinction since the fruitiness has faded away with all three in a hour or so. So if you already have Tuscan Leather or La Yuqawam, this would be redundant. But if I didn't have those already, I probably would prefer this Byredo fragrance to those two.

This is certainly fine for any use, any time, anywhere, except I think at the office I probably wouldn't. I tend to stay with fougeres during business hours. My personal bias. I don't think an executive, man or woman, smelling this fruity will get a positive response, at least not in the C suite. This has acceptable longevity and projection. No one is going to be offended by this fragrance. That said. I just don't see the point in spending $200 for this when La Yuqawam is $49. The difference between La Yuqawam and Black Saffron is noticeable to me, but it is rather niggling difference, and there are a several hundred other scents I'd like to try and haven't sampled yet that I could spend that $150 on. So not a bottle buy for me, but if I run out of Tuscan Leather and La Yuqawam before I die of old age, and this Byredo scent is still out there, maybe then.

A. Fawzy

Reminds me of Montale Aoud Leather. Very close.

joaquinc

smells like amouage black iris

wind69

I had 9 of Byredo. Now I have 5 left. This one is the best for me. It is so sensual and even it is stand out in very soft way, it is very noticeable. I got a compliment every time I wear it. The only things is, I don't thing it made for hot days. I would say it is evening and even a fresh evening scent. My special love!

oldlowo

Out of the bottle I love this, but I'm having trouble identifying which component is standing out to me - leather/metallic/animalic are not my typical profile scents so I'm not sure if it's the combination or one in particular, that's kind of vaguely sweaty/funky. Looking forward to seeing how this changes through the day.

ETA: By the end of the day I'm not a fan - it's not unpleasant but I agree with some other comments here that it smells like Teen Spirit and stale cigarettes in high school - like when your cousin insists she didn't smoke in your car but you know she did and tried to cover it up with Victoria's Secret body spray.

Bonjourlefleur

This is beautiful. My decant arrived this morning and when I first applied I smelt a comforting leather smell (reminded me a little bit of Tom Ford White Suede) I went about my day running errands and when I was walking to my car I could smell a fruity, sweet sharp smell and couldn't place it at all until I realised it was me! This perfume had dried down to a lovely sparkling raspberry smell. I will definitely buy a full bottle when I can!

toosimilar

It's not unique to my taste
It is good, but sort of outdated combo: raspberry + leather
Quite mild I'd say

magred

I think I just straight up might not know what leather smells like. I thought I did, but to me I don't get this heavy leather bomb that everyone else describes this as. To me, this fragrance is black currant, saffron, and prosecco. And it is intoxicating. Dark, drippy, lovely. One of the best things I've smelled in ages.

rcsdx

the sample I tried of this was nice at first, but it ended up giving me flashbacks to wearing teen spirit deodorant when I was in middle school

TheLordsVeryOwn

Love the leather and somewhat fruity combo. Projection and longevity could be better.

ShayaK

Upon the initial whiff, this fragrance immediately brings to mind Van Cleef & Arpels' Feerie, yet with a distinctive difference—it's less sweet and fruity. Instead, it captivates the senses with a blend of berries, juniper, and a subtle touch of leather. The raspberry and violet contribute a fruity essence, while juniper adds a fresh and aromatic quality. The leather note provides a touch of sophistication, balancing the sweetness. It's reminiscent of Feerie but with its own unique twist, offering a less sweet and more nuanced olfactory experience.

MissStarE1973

I received this as part of a 2ml sample in the Byrefo Boisée Discovery set, and I love it so much that I had to buy the larger size. I don't know much about "dissecting" a scent, but I know what I like. I did detect the leather note, and I'm all about that. I sprayed 12 sprays, and I can still faintly smell it more than 24 hrs. later. I think it's more of a skin scent, as nobody commented on it at work (good or bad), but that's OK with me; I enjoy perfume for myself & not to impress anyone else.

Esna

Plush suede and luxurious leather with dark raspberry and saffron. Lasts forever and very unisex.

Scissorslizardspock

Oh this is so nice! Candy violets and a sueded sweet raspberry. There’s something green, maybe the vetiver, in the mix and it’s all a very light hearted take on the raspberry/leather combination.

This is totally unisex, but in case this helps someone decide if it’s worth sampling, I generally like feminine fragrances with a unique twist. I don’t like leather scents, and tend to wear perfumes that are easygoing. This is all of those things on me. Cheers!

moarnight

Raspberry-flavoured honeyed sweets long forgotten in a leather bag, I like the saffron note of this but that's about it. It's sickly sweet at the opening and the drydown reminds me of a generic drugstore perfume.

OzkarVanille

Really not that much to say about this, it's a weird blend of leather and raspberry. I heavily assosiate this smell with that of fruity toilet sprays and those wunder-baum car mirror ornaments. This is a little less synthethic than those, but its hard to not assosiate this perfum with the most tacky people ever. Smells like an incense filled antique thrift store ran by a washed up old wrinkly grandma, some place in southern Europe. If you want to smell this perfum, go smell an opium incense stick and it would probably not be that much difference. My guily pleasure in this perfum is the raspberry base note, but other than that, do not like personally.

Siv7Stars

Rubbery saffron.
Won't get me balloon but will hopefully save some luckless blind buyer. This is horrid n rubbery, test first!

Youngkilla3000

Much easier to wear than TF Tuscan Leather/PDM Godolphin, the leather is smoother and not as intense. Also it's lighter more versatile, and much fruitier than both. The leather on Godolphin smells like rubber in my nose which I absolutely hate, but these three has a very similar DNA no doubt. Because this is a lighter, more effervescent type of smells, this perform not as good as the TF or PDM, I only get around 6 hours of longevity. Overall, a very pleasing scent to wear.

blindboughtjunkie

Light, cozy, smooth, sexy, SCRUMPTIOUS. At first I wasn't impressed at all – it was just a masculine leathery and woody clump. I didn't think much of it when I was at the counter. But after I let it sit for a while...yes. It morphed into a rounded and decadent leather thanks to the raspberry note. It smells even better on clothes.

As I'm sitting in a café right now, I am absolutely yearning for Black Saffron. It has the creaminess of the London Fog I'm sipping on and the mild and tart sweetness of a raspberry cheesecake. It's a very light scent for sure. I barely smell it unless I pass my wrist across my nose, but because of that I see it working for any weather (<30ºC) and any occasion. This is a happy gourmand-but-not-too-gourmand break from my usual floral fragrances. Love!

Venetian Tangerine

So happy with this,
A much lighter and discreet take on TF Tuscan leather.

Much more toned down and approachable, the leather here is not screaming but rather creamy (violet+raspberry) slightly suede like and it has a much more constant presence of saffron throughout the whole duration, which is exquisite.

Don’t be misguided by the opening which comes across very clean, classic byredo, almost soapy (-> juniper + grapefruit) because that gives way in a matter of seconds to a perfume which really resembles a much finer and gentler version of TF TL.

Please try before buying the other!

Only minus - compared to TL - is of course the performance, if you are into that American style of stuff.

HazardousEncyclopedia

The opening on this is loud! I get strong, bitter, rubbery floral/green notes at first -- rose and violet leaf, I think. After that quiets down I get a suede-y leather and something sour that could be raspberry. It's not for me, but it's complex and bold and definitely for someone.
My fiance said it was a nice, androgynous scent, so I gave my sample to him.

vtothek

This is definitely the scent for tough girls. It’s not sexy despite the leather, and it’s not sweet despite the fruity notes. This belongs on girls who drink their rye whiskey neat and wear boots in the summertime.

The leather is definitely prominent in this one but not in an animalic way, thanks to all the fruit. I don’t really get any harsh florals out of this aside from an extremely fleeting burst of saffron. The violet is very fresh and not at all powdery like it tends to be in other scents.

My biggest issue is the longevity. This only lasts about two hours for me, and at the price point it’s extremely disappointing. That being said this one is for girls who want to be unique in a world full of gourmand perfumes. Not for the faint of heart.

AlexiVellianitis

A very cool fragrance. Up close on the skin I had no idea this was leather, as it smells like a tea-like mixture of fruits and spices. For me the leather accord occurs when all of these different elements come together in the sillage.

This is light, fresh and wearable – very unlike your typical heavy and dark leather scents.

Samantha 12

So well blended - I love this - a very wearable leather even in summer. I first got a sniff of this in a beautiful shop that used to be a palace based in Palma, Majorca. For me this is a perfume I associate with yachts in a harbour, Aperol Spritz and sunkissed skin.

Such a wearable leather scent and although unisex its easily wearbale for a female, its not animalic, and has almost an airy leather scent with a mysterious vibe. In my opinion under-rated. I own and like Tom Ford Ombre Leather which is darker and more animalic to me. Black Saffron is lighter & more fruity, the more I wear this the more I love it. You really pick up the Raspberry in the dry down, its a fresh raspberry not syrupy. An understated fragrance that does just enough without trying too hard.

ducklover02

To me it´s a fruitier version of Tuscan leather. The leather is mostly in the background, which makes it way more feminine than TL. I still like it though, and people will enjoy it on you. I can´t really smell the ash, kinda smells more like very sweet candy to me. I wouldn´t say this suits someone who is very serious or masculine, kinda more for someone who is playful and outgoing. Performance is great, don´t spray more than two times. Definitely unisex too.

Kristen_Marie183

Fig ?! I swear I detect it... ruined it for me

nastyenka

This is a dirty leather jacket, trampled on and lying on the sticky floor of a bar and the bar allows smoking and it's the grim, hungover, barfy morning after.

Anything I want to like in the fragrance is instantly overwhelmed by that stale cigarette smoke smell. And of course, it was the only Byredo that has any longevity. I had to scrub it off.

Pointdexter

I used this fragance for years as a sort-of TF Noir de Noir successful substitute. The saffron (as the name goes) and the rose are delicious and, even if the perfume can’t compete with the original, this juice always was a soft spot for its own merits. I decided some time ago to focus solely on NDN but mind you this is a perfume that deserves attention. Am still using samples on and off: this is a dirty unisex fragance so you can be sure you will smell sexy at any rate. Sillage is pretty good, I certainly got noticed at the time, and lasted 5 hours on my skin.

Catherine_Smells

First spray on paper is heavy on the florals, which I could have mistaken for a sweet rose, shortly followed by the unmistakable earthy saffron note. It felt airy, sweet but fresh.

Two small sprays on my skin and the earthy saffron and raspberry develops into a sweet, syrupy almost edible scent. There’s a hint of powder from the violet, but the leather and cashmeran really take over and settle into a rich, slightly scorched wood scent. Something about this combination reminds me of burning Bukhoor, there is something resinous about this fragrance - possibly the juniper pulling through the sweet, smokiness.

Overall, a very intoxicating and intriguing scent. To me, it does not smell as bold as I would have assumed from the name, actually quite a soft leather scent.

smos14

Black saffron was my first purchase from Byredo in 2014 and I fell in love with the scent.
It’s such a good balance between sweet and leathery. While other leather scents are quite sharp, the raspberry in this fragrance makes it much more easy to wear.
I always have a bottle of Black saffron in my collection.

JmThms

Black Saffron is quite Tom Ford-esq. Yes Tuscan and Ombré Leather a bit, and in the opening I thought I detected just a bit of F'ing Fabulous DNA. But the saffron is turned way up. This is predominantly a Leather and saffron scent. I didn't get much raspberry at all, nor sweetness. Got juniper berries blended in. I associate the note saffron with a group of scent profiles I call "the Closet of a Monarch" because they remind me of the smell of a luxurious walk-in closet full of luxurious clothes. Refined, elegant, sartorial. I have a collection of these scent profiles, which include leather, oud, wood, and saffron. So Ombre Leather, Oud Wood, Black Afgano, Initio Oud for Greatness are in this collection. These scent profiles are perfect for formal, stately wearing occasions. But this profile is broad enough to also encompass the clean, white starched cotton shirt and steam iron vibe, such as with Hermès H24 and Serge Lutens Gris Clair. Black Saffron belongs to that first group. The leather and saffron gives it that formal, elegant vibe. As a saffron scent, I think I prefer Oud for Greatness a bit over Black Saffron, and as a Leather scent I definitely prefer Ombré Leather. But Black Saffron is pretty decent.

EvaNicoleFragrance

If you have Tuscan Leather, or even Ombre Leather... you don't need this. This is just a softer version.

ne0.delight

Loooooove this scent so so much!! As someone who typically dislikes sweet scents but tired of fresh scents, I've found my happy middle. This fragrance has a very airy sweetness to it which is not overpowering in the slightest. There is still a freshness about it with a slight spiciness. I'd say the sweetness of it is somewhat creamy while staying airy if that makes sense? The leather and grapefruit are balance out the raspberry beautifully. Love this for summer and I think it would still be nice for colder weather.

stella.cherie

This scent is super masculine on me. It smells like a smoky gentleman's club where men are sipping on whiskey on the rocks with cigars burning. The dominant notes that I get are smoky, a bit boozey, and a bit leathery. Within about 3 hours, its floral, feminine side presents itself, yet with the masculine notes ever-present. I was testing this along with Rose of No Man's Land on the same day, and the skin scents for both, after about 6-7 hours are exactly the same--this really nice soapy floral scent. This is a scent for the fall and winter months. A definite no for me because I can't get past the super masculine, smoky opening, but I do have to say that this is a very well-composed scent due to the complexity of the layers.

andrea806

At first I didn't agree with the leather, but the longer it stays on my skin, the leather gradually reduces its leather smell and turns into floral violet scent that smells elegant and classy. My first choice was Biblioteque but the aroma doesn't suit well on my skin so this is my number 1 choice.

gandrasta

This is a lighter take on Tuscan Leather. Deep realistic leather with a splash of iris and saffron. To be honest, if you already own TL or Godolphin or Al Areeq Silver, Black Saffron will be a major redundancy. Good performance tho

Myrtillajus

By the name I imagined an opulent and rather heavy fragrance, instead: wow! Oh yes it just made me say wow…. Finally we have an unusual creation, where there is saffron and, accompanied by leathery scents, but above all by violet (which gives it those clean and round vibes) and grapefruit (which gives freshness and makes everything juicy), it is fabulous.
What to say more, when a fragrance dazzles me, it takes me and immediately goes in the wishlist.
I find it classy and sensual, suitable for the milder seasons, and the persistence is excellent .
“Portrait of Lisette with Cigarette” painted by Gestel , a woman with magnetic shades.

emil1724

literally smells like dijon mustard. so odd

culunu

As a young woman who enjoys more unisex scents, I think this is my more "sexy" perfume as it is a spicy, deep leathery perfume. This is my go-to for evening-outings and channels my "dark-femininity". I usually don't opt for these scents, but it is a scent that I've been complimented on several times.

It may not be a match for those who enjoy more sweet and floral scents, but as a young woman who don't like too strong feminine fragrances, this one works great.

YjiX3MR

To anyone to whom this smells like an ashtray, did you ever smell ashtray ?

chakalitpasshun

This smells amazing on its own but even better layered with Byredo’s Eyes Closed.

ShowMustGoOn

I really like this scent. There is something fresh and herbal about it. It’s not a pungent leather smell. There is this grassy and fruity freshness to it. It also reminds me of Suede Pony from Boy Smells. It has similar notes, just more fruity. I don’t get any cigarette or ashtray notes like others. Great scent!

JamTime

Strong foundation of creosote.

starlovesshopping

I purchased 100 ml last week from a department store. It was a blind buy. I opened it and did five sprays. It was a classy leather and saffron scent. If you are in Toronto and interested, please message me. I have the original packaging and original receipt. I will give you a very good discount.

ana_gud

For sale in Canada, missing a few sprays. DM if interested.
I got 100ml and love the smell in the bottle but hate it on me :(

bubbaIRL

Very oily leather and juicy raspberries. This one is sexyyy. I dont get that smoky/cigarette smell. This is a different more wearable take on Tuscan Leather by Tom Ford. I think this one is more unisex than TL. This one is very airy but performs well. Very exquisite and works even better on an occasion where you're dressed up.

andrea806

I think to each of their own ph levels. When i was deciding to buy byredo I wanted to like this one it smelled leather then feminine gradually on the cardboard. But when I sprayed on my skin, leather lingered more and smelled a bit smoky. Although when it toned down it smelled feminine but sill leathery.

wagawaga

Started out with a very strong leathery notes, sweet and captivating! Once it settled on your skin, its reminded me of those summer nights, after you leave a birthday party from one of your rich acquaintances.

CMaingi

Great scent love the leather but the sillage is moderate. Might need layering if you’re outdoors. Reminds me of Ombré Leather but I would only buy on sale.

paulinalto

Such a good smell! I mostly get the saffron and it is not an overpowering scent. Smells like a clean skin to me with a little bit of spices. I really like this if it wasnt for the price, because the lasting power is not great

fortnitedog

Smells like cigarettes

Noxstorm

Amazing Leathery / Fruity profile
However , Extremely redundant to TF- Tuscan Leather , PDM - Godolphin, TF- Ombre Leather
And a lot of middle easten dupes hacking the same exact scent of all the above . Just little brighter for the added citrus notes

With such notes you expect above average performance

If you have any of the above no need to add this one.

alyssaemiko

Smells exactly like Dedcool’s Blonde on me… only Blonde lasts all day and is about $100 cheaper.

lachrymarum

smelled lovely in the bottle, on my skin it turns into stale cigarettes.

st_ch

For me, an improved ombre leather. It has a dark leather scent with strong florals and sweetness to keep it a bit less heavy. Ombre leather gives me headaches but this leather scent is much more likable for me.

Sweet and Strong

Sharp, floral, clean, dark.. this is very nice stuff. I mixed savauge elixir and a hit of this and it smells INSANE. But by itself, on my wrist, and it's a solid scent. If you can get it for 150-200$ sure, it's a nice buy. But above 200$ is a little steep for any fragrance. Overall, without price, 8.5/10 . Price point concerns, 7/10

emil1724

smells like dijon mustard on skin, no softness or nice things, harsh gasoline leather and red fruits unsafe for consumption. fuck that

ramparab

sweet and bitter at the same time. I get very little leather, much more thick fruity syrup. but not candy, more sherbet. Very rich and incense like. lasted on skin for good 5 hours on skin

demip

Great scent if only it lasted for more than 2 hrs. The saffron, berry, leather, violet, leather combo are great but it's all gone before you know it. Reminiscent of ombre nomad's incredibly poor (sillage/projection) cousin.

A.Bandini

Totally feminine leaning sweet elixir where i cant even isolate any particular note save for a bit of saffron and very sweet raspberry which starts dominating everything else with each mintue in. While drying down, it even becomes totally rosey which makes it a complete no go to me. Nothing smokey about this to my nose, honestly its not even particularly leathery. Its a sweet fruity-rosey fragrance

Lykopa

I usually HATE leather frags, but this one is really well done! The raspberry note is nice and present and that balances the heaviness of the leather out well. This smells like an expensive cowboy restaurant in Colorado, if that makes sense, it’s not too dark, but still almost smoky. Very atmospheric. It does kind of smell like cucumbers, but that adds it for me. It suits the scent.

Mike799

I'm shocked this is rated so low!! Goes to show that you can't trust the reviews. This is Excellent. Perfectly unisex imo.

OtherHBT

A nice thick leather scent. I quite liked it. I tried it from a sample bottle and the longevity was excellent (6hours), however, the other Byredo perfume bottles I have barely last an hour. It seems they provide a better quality/production batch in the sample bottles.

Byredo was very interesting 6-7 years ago, but it is slowly becoming just another expensive off the shelf brand. Since the corporate takeover, it has evidently lost the touch of the founder being soulfully involved in the products.

raffaellaru

to me this smells more like burning rose (my favorite byredo candle) than rose of no man’s land, which is a major plus. it’s very leathery and i don’t get that gross cigarette-smoke-y scent that other people are talking about, i think it just goes well with my skin chemistry tbh

torayumex

A TF wanna be. Very light but curiously penetrating fruity leather with a lot of clean citrus to cut the cloying sweetness of the red fruits. Transparent as most byredo frags are, yet it manages to fill the room. Interestingly, it’s better at arms length than it is up close? Not memorable, not offensive, wildly wildly overpriced

MatchaCat

Red and purple berries and subtle pink florals with a slight smokiness. I normally don't go for leather perfumes but I like this one because the leather is subtle and smoky, it's not a plasticky leather. Leans slightly feminine. Very widely likable perfume.

Smell: 9 out of 10
Longevity: 7 out of 10

For reference, I'm female.

xillage

A blast of Violet, raspberry, juniper berries and saffron which overpowers all the other notes, You get the leather much prominently only towards the drydown when the initial fruity loudness settles down. Till then if you do not like sweet fragrance, you can skip this one.

inewwilliam

ombre leather's hipster sister. love this 1 in the winter but can work at temp and any hour of the day. super strong.

Germany

This was my signature way long ago and now I am on a leather kick and pulled this out again. Glorious sweet refreshing raspberry leather. I think of Black Saffron as a “soapy “ leather . I love how it smells predominantly of violets and violet leaves , which is my favourite note especially when paired with leather. Rose also comes to play and makes this fresh and soapy along with the violets. It’s so easy to wear and I am obsessing over it as much as I did 10 or so years ago. I read Reviews like it smells like a cool woman with long freshly washed hair , in a leather jacket , boots and violet flavoured cigs in her pocket .
It’s so much more sweet and fresh than Tuscan leather TF . Tuscan is too dry and rough for my taste , too ashy and ruff leather for me. But black saffron is fresh , young , sweet and aromatic. I respect Tuscan, Wished I would like it but love Black Saffron with it’s juicy sweet and happy vibe. I could see this for all year round but in summer it maybe be better left for nighttime.

I thought I would like this more than I do, and the culprit is juniper. The citrusy saffron opening over a familiar Byredo soft leather is singed with juniper. The juniper brings a strange sharp aldehylic twang into the mix, and my nose is unfortunately hypersensitive to it.

As it dries down, the juniper softens and the violet and grapefruit come forward. It's not my favorite floral citrus combo, it seems too underripe for me. No raspberry detected.

Deep Viola is another Byredo scent that features violet and leather, with added woodiness and no citrus. I prefer Deep Viola to this.

Edit: I can pick out a sweeter rose note to this in the beginning now, which significantly subdues the sharpness of the juniper. Still not for me, but better balanced.

heidihelena

First great opening with beautiful rasperry and floral notes. After 30 minutes leather, sahram and some fruity notes. Drydown is dry leather, smooth and sexy but not animalic. Last 6-8 hours but vanishes faster in hot weather. Perfume for fall evening also professional settings. Unisex leaning manly, 7/10.

sarakp999

First of all, I think all of Byredo is a bit over priced. They’re still nice, just overpriced. Black saffron is like a clean antique store. It’s a safe buy if you like warm spicy scents. This one and eleventh hour go hand and hand. This would also go well with their oud scents. Tobacco, fruit, leather, and pepper. I got a little 7ml bottle.

oona m.

First blush is strong tobacco without oppressive tobacco smoke, just a very fine cigar, plus some floral sweetness, and a little bit of steamed earthiness, like wet wood smoke from something fragrant and pine adjacent, not dry or sharp. I'd say there's some jasmine almost, and some bitterness which might be what people are calling juniper.

After drydown you get the leather- the kind after some cleaning and oiling if you've ever been in a shoe repair store, and some dryness/grassiness. Honestly smells like dry straw and well maintained leather after the drydown, about 20-30 minutes after first spritz.

Final phase, the vetiver dominates with some of the leather and a tiny bit of the tobacco lingering over it. Overall quite subtle, doesn't make a lot of splash, kind of grows in the nose the longer or closer you ligner. Moderate to low sillage, very high longevity. I'd say unisex, leaning masculine but not in a prohibitive way. Definitely sample first, I can't see this being a match for everyone, and not worth buying at the price point if it isn't an It Fragrance for you.

Ben70151

Absolutely gorgeous.

I get raspberry, tobacco and leather.

Has both masculine and feminine aspects so if you like floral fruity scents this adds a smokey woody side. If you like leather or tobacco scents this adds a fruity soft edge.

gmb48

There's a lovely fresh leafy/floral scent in the background of this, but it's overpowered by a horrendous smokiness that's almost strong enough to make my eyes water. It's like standing in your garden full of beautiful perfumed flowers and plants while someone in a neighbouring garden has a bonfire going and the breeze is blowing the smoke right at you. Really unpleasant.

lmnsvgz

Prominent raspberry and clean leather. It is likeable and sweet in a non-cloying way. The lasting power isn't ideal though

LockHaven

Monster fragrance, in a good way. Def unisex. Last for hours and great projection. Byredo’s scents are so amazing— they change and evolve from minute to minute and are such a pleasure to wear. Absolutely love it, one of my favorites.

ellennie

This might be my favorite perfume from the house of Byredo, but I'm not sure I can justify purchasing a full bottle. This brand is all about "subtlety," and none of their formulas seem to provide enough bang for the buck. I already own Fragrance 03 (Blonde) by DedCool, which has a much more intense, and in my opinion, artistic composition of similar elements of violet, leather, raspberry, and saffron. While Black Saffron is more wearable and conventionally feminine than Blonde, it's also 4x the price and far less concentrated. Ben Gorham has said that he makes perfume for people who don't want to smell like perfume–I'd say Byredo is perfume for people who are scared of perfume. Based on their sillage, longevity, and strength, these are functionally colognes.

Jeff Shin

A raspberry candy that has been rolled through the wet earth. I got moist, sweet earth with this. The saffron was so harsh that it came across as sour, bitter, and unpleasant. I get why this frag is so popular and has a following but I had to scrub this off my neck and arms after the first try. Unlike most Byredo frags, I found this scent very strong and it lingered for so long to my distaste. I find that the better-performing Byredos, like Bal D'Afrique or this one or Oud Immortel, are all just in shambles on my skin.

through the devil softly

According to GQ, English pro-footballer Trent Alexander-Arnold wears this (alternated with Bal D'Afrique) as an everyday casual scent. Hard to see him suiting BS, and it's not a scent I'd instinctively choose to fit his vibe or personality, but no-one asked me and there's no accounting for taste. Perhaps his girlfriend or his teammates really like it on him.

AndySmellsGreat

One of the better leather scents I’ve come across.

That’s saying something as I normally loathe Byredo for their marketing hype and usual underwhelming product for price. Occasionally even the better smelling poor performance ones give me an itch that I never (quite logically) follow through on.

This one was a satisfying purchase.

An oily saffron/suede with muted spice, a tinge of what I thought was white floral (the notes say black violet which might make sense) that keeps popping it’s head up even 12 hours later or even after a shower the next morning.

Nice!

antoniov

This is very difficult to describe based on the way it smells on me. It reminds me of clean fragrances for some reason but it is not your typical clean fragrance. It is pleasant but a bit close to a detergent clean fragrance for me. Undecisive on this one.

nepria

Sweet, rich, fruity leather.
In the beginning, it is bright, very prominent, kind of boozy, and kind of harsh a bit but after around 20 minutes it settles down and becomes this calm sweet fruity leather scent as I mentioned before. This is not a light-hearted fluffy leather - this is a very noticeable and full scent, the fruity notes lead the leather notes all the way till the perfume is almost not detectable so it is sweet till the very end.
I see this as a great unisex scent, warm and very pleasant and you can totally share this perfume with your partner. I think it's great for the autumn/winter season as it has this warm cozy feeling, and the fruity notes create a bit of a festive feeling also.
The longevity is moderate you do have to refresh this scent after around 5-6 hours, but when it's noticeable it's a very pleasant experience for sure. The leather here is super versatile you can wear it when you want to dress up a bit, or even wear this with a casual outfit. Even though there are noticeable sweeter notes it still feels like a high-end perfume and gives you this lifting experience. Very pleasant.

jackboardy

I'm rewriting my old review because my thoughts about this fragrance have significantly changed over the past few months... this is a covertly funky perfume, hiding under the chic profile.
Really sensual, almost textural: gummy, silky, powdery, chewy, supple. And that violet note! There's also an unusual yet pleasant balance of sweet, leathery, bitter, and something almost savory (perhaps the saffron)? Sometimes, for a split second, it smells sour & slightly unpleasant on my skin. However, I quite like this facet of the perfume! I think that dash of bitterness balances everything out a bit.
I love this stuff. Kind of a subconscious sleeper hit in my collection; it's one I find myself putting on a lot without much forethought.

twoski

Very fresh juniper and grapefruit with saffron slap you in the face upon first spray. The raspberry and leather are ever-present in the background.

There's a faint violet note as well that blends wonderfully with the fruity leather.

This is one of my favorite offerings from Byredo. A sophisticated sweet leather scent that works well on a woman but is certainly wearable by men as well.

CHarris23

A gorgeous, gorgeous gal. Black Saffron manages to be full bodied but not overwhelming. Packs a spicy punch on initial spray. Dries down to this rich, sweet leather. I couldn't stop smelling myself! Not for the weak or faint of heart. The wearer of this gives off sexy, well-traveled, put together vibes.

Jkr111

This has exactly the same effect as TF Tuscan Leather, in that the raspberry/leather combo smells exactly like cocaine. Not that I know what cocaine smells like. Anyway, whether you can identify it or not, I can't imagine not finding that chemical smell off-putting. It's also sickly sweet. And along with all that there's a cheap synthetic note that reminds me of Matey (a 90s kids bubblebath). I think Byredo are great but this one is wrong in so many ways. Though maybe it could be marketed to the niche demographic of people who have a fantasy of getting body-searched at the airport.

Jonathanelsher3

This leather is light, sweet, and fruity. Incredible. A stunning interpretation of Leather infused with raspberries begins with a fresh scent of junipers such as gin and citrus, as well as a little violets note, almost like a sweet cosmetic note, and the raspberry and saffron make it borderline edible. It's fantastic. It's light, sweet, and lovely.

TINTECH69

This is an amazing fragrance! And just wanted to pop in for anyone curious. This doesn't smell like Tuscan leather.. and That it smells like if you took Baccio Immortale and Brivido Della Caccio of Argos Fragrance and mixed them.
Which makes sense because Argos is low key just a clone house. ENJOY

wind69

love it so much! Gentle suede with raspberry on the side. Such a sexy and comfortable scent! The only one things. It does not last all day. More like 4-5 hrs. I wish I can shower in it!

Daisv

someone below said smells like "Electricity" LOL the only thing I can add to that comment is that the first inhale is electric because it is POTENT! It will slap you in the face. It is sharp and incredibly dark, I get the same feeling when you take a big swig of a pungent liquour that you weren't prepared for. Black Saffron smells like Bitter liquor and dry aged Violet leafs and dark oiled leather. On a man this would be magnificent, cue the fireworks. For a woman ehh I think this scent fits a certain profile and I'm talking a conniving-in-your-face-F-U type of broad. The only woman fit for this Potent scent is Beth Dutton to be honest.

As a man I was looking for something like Tuscan Leather and Godolphin but toned down, for days I didn't want to wear something super heavy.
Initially trying this out and experiencing the opening this pretty much ticked the box for me and I was excited but sadly as it dries down it starts to smell like a ladies powdery make up bag and it makes it come across quite feminine to me, at which point it was no longer an enjoyable wear. Disappointing.

Jbicanic89

If your a fan of Tuscan Leather or Ombre Leather or any of those fruity leather fragrances, you need to get your nose on this. It is, imo, a fresher take on those fragrances.

sweetlikecandie

Bought this and haven’t had a chance to actually wear it on the skin yet so my opinion might change. However at first I really really loved it, but now the more I smell it the more I realise it smells like a sweet mustard. At least in the bottle it does

cominwood

smells like electricity better with citrus family

2whit2quit

One spray on my wrist and maybe it's just me... this is a sour, nauseating mess on me. I even just tried to give away my sample and they brought it right back. It smells like moldy, muddled raspberries in the bottom of a cocktail leftover from the night before. Oh, and yes, someone has put out a few cigs in the glass as well.

Don khotan

It smells like a plastic towel.

jarno1208

I like it. More unisex and fruitier option to the category of Tuscan Leather type of fragrances.

sniffmonster

This used to be my signature scent for a while. It's spicy, woody, and peppery and just a bit smoky. I've found that over time as it wears down, it can get a little sweeter and become a bit cloying, but like most Byredo perfumes, the throw on the scent isn't particularly long-lasting, although it will linger on my clothes throughout the day. I am almost done with this bottle, and while I like wearing it, I do not plan on re-buying it. Byredo perfumes in general I find to be pretty one-note and overpriced, if largely inoffensive. I don't think I've smelled a Byredo scent yet that I would LOATHE to wear.

Edited to add: I agree with others in the thread who say this is like a more toned-down, less leathery version of Tom Ford's Tuscan Leather. That description is accurate.

acc

Smells fabulous from the bottle, so i tried this. 1 spray on my skin and i was offput by the synthetic start.

Starts off slightly spicy and sour, quickly turns to a floral leather which gave me mixed opinions. As 30 minutes passed, i am left with a leather-raspberry-sweet woods combo which is nauseating. This is a bold mixture of what could not go along together, leather is animalic and stinky. Raspberry is almost an enemy of other notes, really sweet and cloying. Together they smell like sweat and dirt.

Dirty leather notes wear off and you get a cheap sweet smell. I find the base scent of this to be resembling a sweet scented shampoo or a moisture balm of pale pink color which contain many synthetic elements. So alike many over the counter cosmetic products, i would never associate this smell with a natural ‘saffron’. Total misexecution for me.

I suggest you to try this on your skin if you will use it that way.

Cherry_Darling

A drier more masculine tuscan leather with a shot of gin and a slice of lemon. Grapefruit :)

aczwy

this is so much smokier than i expected it to be; i'm surprised to not see any birch in the lineup, because i get something a bit heavy from this. i get the fruity sweetness, but the fruit isn't that identifiable as raspberries, it's more just a generic red berry smell. if i passed by someone wearing this i would think that they had cigarette smoke clinging onto their clothes and just finished eating some fruit.

takemymoney

I love this scent. I know that others smell cigarettes but I don't get that. It smells like old leather ( not fresh, more like an old worn in, slightly dirty jacket) violet, and raspberry- which sounds odd but smells smooth, warm, soothing, with some sweetness. It works well on my chemistry so perhaps that is why I get dirty leather rather than cigarettes. Perfumes can be weird like that. Worth giving it a shot , if you are one of the lucky ones that it works on this is a gorgeous fragrance.

Jclee34

For me… it smells a lot like Hot Courture by Givenchy and every now and then, I smell a hint of cigarettes. It smells nice to me but people are making it sound so aweful. It probably doesn’t go well with their body chemistry. Just mix it with another perfume and see what happens . I love mixing perfumes

Gioia's secret

I was really obsessed with the BS and was about to order a full bottle but I am so glad that I tested it again in a store and didn’t order it, so here’s why:
When you test it on blotter it’s amazing from the start to the end, moreover it impresses you with its depth, longevity, and sillage. But once I have sprayed it on my clothes and after 5 hours, or probably even more I have started to smell on me cigarettes’ scent, but I don’t smoke, and at that day no one smoked around me. I was literally confused, but suddenly it came to my mind that I have sprayed BS on my tshirt, so I have inspected my tshirt and yes, it was BS, the cigarettes scent is the dry down of BS. Its dry down resembles the scent that you can get from bar, club, etc. So I recommend to test it on clothes before buying it, otherwise you might get disappointed

cfman

I’ve tried all of the primary Byredo fragrances…Black Saffron is the only one that has inspired me to buy a full bottle. I see this as a mass pleaser and can see this being used as a signature scent.

ko.yours

Split second of spraying smells like beautiful sweet floral that I love then saffron overwhelmingly overtakes. It's a touch peppery, there is something cooling in there that resembles cucumber water (which I suspect to be the leather + saffron combination). There is an aura of mysteriousness in it, in a mystical sense. The image is of a veil of something.. (but it by no means smells smokey or incensy, just an image). Makes me think of an Eastern mythical creature emerging from a waterfall. On my skin, it's fresh and not sweet.

Again, Byredo was able to put 2 contradictories in one scent, which makes it wearable all year round and perfect as a signature scent because of its uniqueness. Unfortunately, it's just not *my* signature. I appreciate it, it's just not my taste. I was curious about this fragrance because of Rihanna - yeah, I can totally imagine Rihanna wearing this.

Edit: 6 hours later... I'm sorry, it started projecting a smell that resembles sweaty salty skin and uh, the warmth of a fart. 😭 probably just my skin chemistry.

The Wolf

Really like bordering on love for this leather fragrance. The grapefruit opening, juniper, saffron vetiver cashmeran make this unique the normal trope of raspberry and leather that Tuscan Leather did first.

This gets dark dirty and smokey.
This is a leather experience not for those looking for a mass appeal leather, but more so tailored to the niche enthusiast.
One of the best from the house IMO.

Smooth, mysterious and sophisticated—and to my nose not particularly saccharine, not particularly fruity and not particularly smoky. It’s a leather note that I smell—but also—and I’m trying to wrap my head around it here—Hiris by Hermes: there is something like a freshly grated carrot note, a jammy note that blinks in and out—yet also hints something like purple iris. At first it reminded me a bit of L’Extase by Nina Ricci minus the sweet intensity: this must be the raspberry and leather notes that both share. But then it hit me: This also reminds me of a softer, more refined version of Decadence by Marc Jacobs.

It’s strange, but the word that comes to my mind as I try to describe this juice is international; like sitting in the black leather seats in the Frankfurt airport and some gorgeous thing walks by and she smells like she’s just spritzed perfume from the duty free and…she’s gone.

On my skin, it does not morph; it is continuously smooth, leathery and subtly sweet with the ghost of Hiris everywhere: Anyone who is familiar with the perfect damp coolness of Hiris—that carrot note—will understand.

Regarding longevity: Incredible. On my skin, it easily lasts 11 plus hours: If I spray it on me at 7pm, it is readily detectable on my skin at 9pm the following day: this is a record for any perfume I own.

I responded immediately and definitively to this perfume. I tested it in store on my wrist and in my hair: I recommend anyone else do the same because this is not necessarily a safe blind buy for the higher price point. But I for one absolutely love it, have no regrets, purchased a full bottle, and would do it again and again. And considering all that, it is a risk worth taking.

Longevity: ETERNAL (12 hours +) 10/10
Perfume: 10/10
Blind Buy Safe: No

This smelled so good in the air and on the card but all I get on my skin is cigarette smoke. My body compulsively stops me from inhaling the scent in, same as when you pass someone smoking on the street. Smells like my grandpa's nylon bomber jacket. It's a no

MeliMarie05

Smells like cigs or an ashtray. Its not terrible but the burnt smell of something is really strong. Not my taste.

ckorp8

Tried this at the local counter and it was quite a fruity leather, so nice that I ordered a 250ml bottle. Unfortunately my bottle arrived but it’s so much less fruity and more leathery. I was told that since my bottle is new while the tester’s been around for months, I should take a few sprays to air up my bottle then let it develop for a while and try it again after that. Any comment on this? This worked for my bottle of Oud Ispahan and so I have hope for this bottle yet.

Dmiddy

I really like this, but that’s hardly a surprise — if there’s a whiff of leather and smoke together, I’m usually on board. I agree with many other reviewers that the composition resembles a fruit body splash hastily applied to cover up cigarette odor. But I personally find that nostalgic and charming.

firmbeliever

Smells like Bath and Body Works Sun-ripened Raspberry lotion plus cigarette smoke. My husband said the same thing someone else here said - that it smells like somebody smoked a cigarette and then tried to cover the smell with a berry-scented perfume.

Washed it off.

Parfumsqui.surprise

What a disappointment this one was! Smells like cigarette smoke and a tinge of leather, but mostly smoke. I like a smoke accord, thought it was beautiful in the opening of Mixed Emotions, for example, but here it just smells unpleasant. I don't want to smell like I've been hanging out in a dive bar. In my opinion, there are far better leather perfumes on the market, I much prefer MEMOs Leather collection to this one. French leather is my favorite, this house has been really disappointing overall. I got lucky with the first perfume I bought blindly from this house being Gypsy Water, still my favorite from the house, absolutely hated Bal d'Afrique, which was sounded beautiful but strongly gives off cheap baby powder vibes. I feel like this house is hit or miss, more thank likely you're going to strongly like or strongly dislike their fragrances. Very very strong projection and sillage though.

silthrill

This is the smell of a hot, edgy, brunette biker chick in the 90s wearing something very fresh from the 90s (Clinique Happy or Issey Miyaki are what come to mind) + her leather jacket + her cigarettes. It's exactly a combination of those 3 things. Needs to be paired with a sexy red lipstick.

Edit: Ladies, this is sex in a bottle. This is the fragrance to wear when you show just a little extra skin - a tight black tank top with leather tights and black patent heels. I wish the performance was better as it wears off fairly quickly - nothing a little decant in the purse can't fix. Obsessed.

spiceysauce5

This is quite fruity but not dense/sweet, smells mature. Like a leather handbag mixed with some designer fragrance, but clashes a bit. Not a huge fan, prefer Oud saphir.

snyderhannah

Smells likes a BRISK raspberry iced tea being enjoyed inside my friends jeep where she smokes her cigarettes. This is such a nostalgic scent to me I couldn't help but fall in love at first sniff. Reading other people's comments on the leather.. I can see how this can come across as a cheap/fake leather jacket or even an uber (ew). I don't think most Byredo are safe blind buys and this definitely applies.

hydriotaphia

20 minutes in, and this is one of the dirtiest leathers I've ever smelled. The image is vivid, borderline impressionistic -- I'm sitting in the back of a taxi in Nanjing, the scent of cheap, fruity air freshener failing to mask the lingering stench of stale cigarettes and sweat on old leather.

Only, with Black Saffron the air freshener will perplexingly outlast the leather entirely. The enduring base notes (and boy, do they ENDURE) are so sanitized and sweet, a caricature of bourgeois girlishness in comparison to the leather, that it's almost reproachful. Why?

annuttu

Imagine a teenage girl, in a bad quality faux leather jacket and a scarf, who secretly smokes cigarettes and runs for a smoke in the bushes during recess and then sprays some cheap berry-fruity body spray to cover the smell. She doesn’t smell exactly like cigarettes anymore, but everyone can smell that she just had one and tried to cover it up.

Now I smell like that when I sprayed on this perfume. It’s kind of funny, but I don’t want to smell like this and most definitely will not pay 140 eur for it.

The longetivity is nice though

ValleyoftheMoms

I want to love this--the leather and vetiver evoke such a cool, leather jacket kind of vibe. But it just feels unfinished to me--like I'm waiting for something sweet and warm to kick in and instead, I'm just left with a cool leather jacket. And ultimately, that's how I'd describe this fragrance--a literal leather jacket. I do see a lot of mixing potential. I could see taking something really fluffy and sweet and adding some masculine depth with this. I tested this theory with two of my sweetest, most feminine scents--Cloud (Ariana Grande) and The Sexiest Scent Ever (4160 Tuesday). It added a unique element to both--it took Cloud from high school to graduate school and added a much more masculine feel to the The Sexiest Scent Ever.
I keep striking out with Byredo. I've never fully fallen in love with any of their fragrances. This one felt just a little too masculine and unfinished for me. However, if you want to smell like a leather jacket, you've found your scent.

Skinterpreter

To put it simply, Byredo's Black Saffron smells to me like someone in a leather jacket wearing raspberry perfume while having a drink in a bar filled with cigarette smoke. I really like the way this perfume smells, it's rather bold and attractive. I may consider getting a full bottle of this at some point.

Sidonie Sera

This one changes QUITE a bit from first spray to dry down.

First spray is fruity and feminine. Initially, it reminds me of a number of other perfumes I've smelled but can't remember the names of.

About 20-minutes in, the leather pops out and sits right in the middle of it--totally separate from everything else. It then turns dirty, as the leather note matures, and the fruit totally falls away.

It mellows out in dry down. The spike falls off and the fruit returns with the raspberry making an appearance. The dirty leather note gets pushed out by the vetiver. About 40-minutes in it comes full circle and takes you right back to the first set of notes, like nothing ever happened. The leather then comes in and out, like it can't decide whether it wants to stick around or not.

In spite of the journey, it's not a particularly complex perfume.

Not quite sure what to make of it. I'm going to have to wear this one a few times to figure out if it works for me.

akoyumi

This smells like walls covered in the stale smoke of cigarettes and curtains of mildew.

Fragaddict123

When I heard the name black saffron I was intrigued
I love saffron and I always search for fragrances that gives me a realistic saffron vibe at least
And "black" eluded me to thinking this will be a dark scent
So I tried it and nothing is dark about it
It’s a different approach of Tuscan leather
With fruits I could’ve sworn I smelled blackberries all day with this one
At the initial sprays you get the saffron for a little while but it dries down as leather and berries
It’s unique in so many ways that you have to try it yourself

kyrawuwu

On first spray it smells absolutely divine, but i feel the longer i wear it, the more synthetic it becomes. It's not a scent that i would want to be wearing all day because of that. But initial notes are very, very nice

dottyfluff

This was the first fragrance I smelled from Byredo, and it intrigued me then. I so much want to like the brand, unfortunately most of the fragrances smell harsh and vulgar on me. Today I decided to revisit it, to see if I still like it. After smelling the other scents, I must say that this one is one of the better, ones, but I am still not a fan. The artificially generated longevity is too harsh. 30 min into wearing it it reminded me of the heady aerosol discharge from a 90s can of cheap feminine deodorant. It dried down relatively nicely - 2h later my skin smelled of a sweet and creamy expensive cosmetic product with a bit of grassiness or cassis... but still not mind blowing.

clo2005

love love love this fragrance, the opening is spicy, warm and woody and reminds me of an enchanted forest, it is very leather heavy as well so more like a forest in a birkin bag it is a really interesting and unique scent, the dry down is slightly rosy with a hint of green and wordiness in the background. a very sexy unique smell in my opinion, very elegant and classy, might consider getting a full bottle

lizziepatricia

Is it insane for me to love Black Saffron, and Diptyque’s Philosykos, and to want to wear them together?

Both have this incredible, green quality that balances out any sweetness, but Philosykos has such a broken-twig greenness and creaminess from the fig. It works so well with the violet and saffron that I have taken to wearing one on one arm, the and one on the other. Please someone respond and tell me this makes sense.

Black Saffron is juicy - at first it seems too much so. 30 seconds in, the raspberry is tempered by the herbal bite of the juniper, and the bitter, expansive vetiver. I mean all of this in the best way possible. I typically love things like Glossier’s You and Dedcool’s Milk and Blonde, and I sampled Black Saffron in a department store and bought it on the spot.

SchmitzTheChicken

Received this as a 12ml travel-sized vial when I bought Pulp.

Now I love this more than Pulp.

To me, the notes that stand out the most are the Chinese grapefruit, saffron, and leather. I'm normally pretty averse to anything leather scented because I associate it so strongly with new cars and taxis, to the point it makes me a little nauseous. But the leather here is beautifully balanced by the cashmeran (probably) and comes off nice and soft, not too overpowering. It is a really interesting, complex scent that stays on for a very very long time, about 12 hours in hot weather. I would say it's very wearable for anything, for work or for date nights. Seriously considering getting the full size bottle after I finish this one! Although anything by Byredo is kinda overpriced :x

carmenandmonkey

This scent is bringing up memories from 15 years ago hahaha. It's Saturday at 9pm and my best friend and I are getting ready for a night out. It's both our perfume combined hahaha (hers Escada Pacific Paradise and mine Escape Ibiza Hippe), fruity liquor and chasers, makeup powder all over the vintage wooden dressing table, flavoured lipgloss and $$ in leather purses and us getting into the back of a cab...

Dessyymae

Omg this smells like creed aventus for her mixed with tuscan leather by tom ford!

njwooding

There's definitely a lot of potential here, it starts off as a very bright and generic greenish citrus flowery masculine scent. The kind of thing you'd smell from a magazine insert. Then, it gets pretty good on the dry down. The saffron becomes easier to identify, as well as leather that's almost musky. I wish the dry down came sooner, and was more powerful. It's an elusive scent, that doesn't come through clearly on my skin.

bergamotted

This is a very interesting fragrance, which makes me want to like it, but sadly I don't. The raspberry is very noticeable and has a cough syrup sort of vibe. The saffron, juniper berries, and violet bring a strong (but not overbearing) medicinal quality to the fragrance. The leather is soft and suede-ish, but cuts the sweetness of everything else and gives it more depth.

This fragrance changed constantly on my skin - sometimes the raspberry-leather duo was most prominent, then it was the saffron and violet. Towards the end it settled into just vetiver.

I've always disliked raspberry in perfume, and I'm not a huge fan of saffron either, so it's no surprise I dislike this too. Everything else in between was pleasant enough to me though.

DacontaE

I received a sample from Nordstrom on my last visit and was looking for something different from my normal floral or gourmand loves. I had heard of byredo but hadn't actually tried anything, I'm glad my introduction to the brand was so pleasant!

I was worried seeing that this scent had leather notes in it as well, I hate the smell. I had tried the ombre leather from Tom Ford and had wanted to gag but was happily surprised that this was so much more then that. It doesn't smell like leather at all to me. It does have a certain amount of depth to it and it's so fun to explore said depth! From the juniper berries and the grapefruit that make themselves known the first few minutes to that gentle black violet that becomes more apparent on the dry down it is such a beautiful sexy scent. The wear time was very impressive as well! Sprayed on at 10am and can still smell traces at close to midnight!

noseinheaven

I really like this. I have a sample and like to keep smelling it. At some points this smells amazing and so interesting. And at other points the leather is too strong. at another point there is a kind of sour liquor smell that is not good.
But when it is good it is so so good! I’m just not sure where it ends up on me. With the liquor smell or the sweet, smokey, fresh smell…need more tries

I find the note breakdown very accurate on this one and you can pick up pretty much all of them. It's a very fruity fragrance, with the raspberry being dominant for quite some time. The leather is just enough to make sure it always reminds you that it's there and help support the fruity notes, along with the violet. A rather unique scent that can be worn by both sexes. Projection is above average while the duration is about 4-5 hours on my skin. I'd say go for it if you're really looking for a fruity scent that's not your usual apple or pineapple- centric fragrance and remains fruity, yet classy throughout its duration.

A Tom Ford clone of 'Tuscan Leather' done extremely well, slightly less harsh and thinner, making it much more wearable, but this is done in an extremely feminine way.

Tom Ford's vision was a moment in his life that inspired him for a scent, which was: New car leather, raspberry air freshener, cocaine. If you never smelt cocaine before, chances are your olfactory will not recognize it.

The Violet in here is very strong, and this type of note i dislike.
The Raspberry note they use is a sweeter lighter one vs TF Tuscan Leather. You get more sweetness from the Juniper Berry but also lightly added and done in a way that it's beautiful.
You get Byredo's signature note of Vetiver which runs in a long of their fragrance dna's and is incredible!

Longevity is very nice lasting hours in a moderate scent bubble.
From the opening till bottom dryoff, all i think of when i smell this is 'brand new car' smell. Is that good to wear? That's up to you. Imo everyone loves the smell because everyone loves being in a new car, which might tell the brains of the ones smelling your scent that you smell of money & luxury. Or, some people might just think you smell like a new car and find it odd you walking around smelling like that.

'Tuscan Leather' is NOT approved by girls, they find it too harsh to smell on a partner.
I ended up personally not liking the fragrance dna on myself because of the strong Violet floral note in here. But, it's still a very beautiful fragrance, and for the right person this can be wonderfully worn. This dna is very fashion-forward in a casual trendy way, so kudos to that.

First blast of dark earth with heavily sweet white florals springing from it. I get a vegetal twang that I associate with orris or carrot seeds; it's woody and aromatic, powdery. I do not seem to be getting any of the official notes though, maybe saffron but nothing fruity is coming forward yet. I'll have to keep my nose on this during the drydown. As it is now, it feels like a walk through a grassland meadow through the mist of an early morning. Unisex and would work during any weather.

6+ hours later: The scent changed to more of a white sugar note, no florals or anything aromatic. Strange. It's barely discernible on my skin now.

ingeneuxo

-Opens as a pretty floral scent.
-Raspberry notes that others have picked up on... they don't stand out to me.
-Upon initial dry-down, leather notes become more prominent.
-It's a bit of a honeyed leather fragrance, I would say.
-Unisex, leaning femme.
-Perhaps more of an evening scent than daytime.
-Black Saffron has a rather unique development- morphing from a pretty floral scent to a honeyed leather one. I can imagine how this could become someone's signature scent.
-Overall: a noteworthy fragrance checking out from the house of Byredo, even if you're not usually a huge leather/white floral fan. (-)

silverhawk2529

It's smell like TF Tuscan leather but lighter than TF. I love this one.

amfiguous

My favorite Byredo of the ones I've tried (Gypsy Water, Mojave Ghost, 1996, Flowerhead, Bal D'Afrique). Leans feminine to me, but definitely unisex. A sweet leather, honestly a sexy fragrance that makes me think of spending a hot Saturday summer morning in a vintage leather jacket, thrifting in a hipster neighborhood of Brooklyn. To me, this is the best of niche-- extremely wearable, but different from the many other offerings out there.

Megnix10

To me, this is a more feminine and floral take on Tom Ford's Tuscan Leather. The leather note is not as "in your face" but is in the base. Every time I smell my wrists I get a powdery leather with a tiny hint of raspberry.

LovelyLifestyle

This is one of the few gems from the Byredo house.

On my skin I don't get the leather.
The dry down is sweet, but in a very refined pleasant way.
The saffron and raspberry are the most prominent notes to my nose and in the background this beautiful, creamy and smooth cashmeran comes through. This fragrance is whimsical.

I would definitely wear this during casual occasions. It's not something I would personally reach for in a special occasion but it could definitely be worn all year, day or night.

Andrewthecologneguy

Cherihanei is spot on - this is a watered down and fruitier Tuscan Leather, if we must make a comparison to Tuscan Leather. For me it is best to think of this as its own fragrance, and if so then the beauty truly shines. It is soft, musky, fruity with a leather (think MEMO Irish Leather) undertone to shore everything up. It is somewhat addictive - you want to just keep smelling it but unfortunately longevity is only a few hours, so respray is required. This is my only issue with the fragrance, and as such, I cannot justify the price point. If you can find a clone, go for it.

emerson10

This is what 20 year old thought I wanted to smell like. I remember smelling this when it launched; it was the first frag that really put me on to Byredo. I spritzed it all over myself and within just an hour I was nauseous. I wanted to like it so bad because it was that mysterious deep 'mature' fruity I thought I had been looking for, but it doesn't do it for me. I think the leather and saffron notes in this get a bit cloying.

I get why people love it. I do. I get the appeal. Also yes, this totally smells like Oud Saphir (this came first). It kind of smells like this inside of a make up bag, if the makeup bag were super leathery.

WHO I PICTURE THIS ON:
I know it's unisex, but I still feel like it skews feminine. I picture it on a young girl in her 20s, she wants something more mature than her berry floral frags from HS and college, and associates mature with leather, so we end up here. Solid choice.

aLmoravado

Beautiful fruity-woody fragrance. I haven't finished a 50ml bottle this fast!

Cherihanei

Why make a complicated review when I can go straight to the point. It's a plain watered down and less complex Tuscan Leather. I've always loved saffron in general so it's hard for me to dislike Black Saffron. The fruitiness is a bit more prominent here than what Tom Ford had designed. For the price, I think it's fundamental to compare these two because Byredo has a very weak performance compared to TL. Black Saffron lasted 3-4 hours on my skin 5-6 hours on my clothes. Tuscan Leather smells for days on my clothes and a solid 24hrs on my skin. Since they are both pricey, I think it's good to know before taking the plunge. Maybe if you felt Tuscan Leather was a bit too aggressive and long lasting - this could be a great option !

Digidrago

Update: tried this for a day, and I felt like I smelled like a woman wearing a wet leather jacket and raspberry lipbalm. Some might like this, but definitely not a masculine fragrance.

Javanese vetiver adds a smokey note to the leather which is at the heart of this fragrance. On top of that is sweet raspberry which provides a nice contrast and smooths out the dryness of the leather and vetiver. I've never smelled saffron, but there is a hint of spice in this fragrance which I'm guessing is attributable to that.

The scent profile reminds me of Encre Noire, although this is much less dry.

ysl187

I like tuscan leather! i wear what ever i like even woman perfumes.. But this is 2 feminin for me!

apentias

Another beautiful formula decimated by my stroppy skin. On my husband's skin, you get the fruit and violet notes that bring it to life, but on me it's pure leather and saffron. Which still smells wonderfully but it does the juice a disservice. The main word that comes to mind with this perfume, which is almost entirely unisex (with a cheeky nod to the masculine side), is versatile. I would wear it day and night, in either cold or warm weather. It smells like you are empowered and chic. It is interesting but inoffensive, so it can be worn for a hot date but also in the morning at the office.

i2uby

I've been thinking about tobacco and leather scents in candles for Fall and then I remembered I had a sample of Black Saffron. Ah, this is almost perfection. It opens fruity with lots of violets and a dash of spicy saffron. It's a bit too powdery throughout yet I'm reminded of soft buttery leather, drenched in raspberry with hints of tobacco. I pair this perfume with my favorite leather jacket and black eyeliner. Very cool, inoffensive yet sexy. Perfect for Autumn, early Winter and crisp rainy days.

L.bss

I love this! Such a versatile scent! that grapefruit and raspberry with leather...I mean it's just fantastic! Linear, the only thing that disappears is the juniper which fades a bit but all the other notes are staying, remaining fresh! there's something soda-like that is so addictive.. Love it really! Unisex and four seasons worthy. It's that kind of a scent that is just pleasing everybody, it cant go wrong. There's no mistake ever in having this

Heles

I remember trying out fragrances at Mecca and Black Saffron was by far the strongest and most distinct fragrance I tested. I kept reaching back for my tester strip throughout the time I was there.

Black Saffron opens with a bright, sweet, fruity punch and transitions into a lovely smoky tobacco over a couple hours. Unfortunately, along with the tobacco comes a raspberry note that dries down to be sickeningly sweet on my skin.

Glad I asked for a sample to try out first, rather that purchasing on the spot. An initial love which ended up disappointing.

That being said, perhaps it's just my skin which makes perfumes dry down sweeter. I also have an unnaturally strong aversion to sweet scents, so I imagine most people would have absolutely no problem with the sweetness in Black Saffron

The fragrance projects well and lasted for several hours as a vague cloud around me. The smokiness remained on my wrist even after vigorously washing with soap, which I actually quite liked.

Maybe one day I'll be able to stomach sweeter scents and I'll come back to purchase this :')

hhaddouti

Because of the leather and the raspberry, one may compare it to Tuscan Leather. To me, Tuscan Leather is a dry leather fragrance and Black Saphron, a fruity leathery one. I found it much more appealing and sophisticated when layered with Ginepro di Sardegna by Acqua di Parma.

Cal2601

I love this. Love it. On my skin, I get light florals and fruit in the opening but almost immediately it's joined by leather and then tobacco smoke. In about 20-30 minutes it dries to a sexy, sweet, smoky scent on me. I would say it leans more masculine than I usually wear but absolutely unisex. So good.

SocialAssassin

Similar to Oud Shaphir but more refined with a touch of florals - I detect violet and rose. Does feel slightly feminine, but this shouldn't stop anyone from giving it a try. Its projects moderately and performs well. Probably could have been better without the rose, just my 2 cents.

FloidnScotch

Different, quieter take on raspberry and leather, with some fresh and floral undertones and barely any saffron, which I wished it had more of.

Despite the sweetness and florals, feels easily unisex.

nswatkins20

dries down really, really fast. smells identical to dedcool's 03 Blonde...the notes are literally exactly the same on each manufacturure's websites and i can confirm because I own both. honestly if you think you'd like this i'd go for the dedcool version because it is almost a hundred bucks cheaper.

Bunjaba88988

The first niche fragrance I ever bought was Black Saffron.

Then, I traded it for Tuscan Leather.

Then, I sold the Tuscan Leather and bought another bottle of Black Saffron.

This is, perhaps, one of the most beautiful fragrances ever made. Soft, sweet, smooth. It isn't in-your-face loud or standoffish, and works for nearly all social occasions.

Black Saffron is a leather scent, but to define it as that alone would be doing it a disservice. The berries in this are very juicy and authentic, and they alongside the saffron compliment the leather perfectly. The floral, fruity aspect of this perfume is what makes it stand out so much. Nothing is out of place, everything is as it should be.

Is it similar to Tuscan Leather?
Undeniably.

But is it better?
In my opinion, yes it is. Everything I didn't like about Tuscan Leather is not present here. This is just a beautiful, fruity, floral leather perfume. I've learned from my mistake, and will never part with this again.

lilharrywinston

Wow, this is wonderous, sweet, leathery with a hint of smoke, just amazing. Reminds me that it could be something from the house of Roja. Reading the reviews below make me wonder if they had authentic juice. Purchased mine from Neiman Marcus, simply amazing. I am not getting any of those nasty notes as some other members stated. I’m glad for that! I am loving this. ❤️
Perhaps others got a fake product, I can’t image skin pH could generate some of the smells others claim. Try a decant from a reputable seller should you wish to try this lil’ gem.

Violinplayah

Gasoline and motor oil with a lovely saffron suffocating beneath, like a seagull after a tanker spill. Not for me, if that wasn’t obvious :D

Bubbles1964

Last August in mid-summer heat, I tried to wear Black Saffron and hated every minute,. I decided to wash it off after only 20 minutes. It smelled like chemicals and was cloying. I assumed I would never like it.

Before I go further I must make a confession: I’m not a fan of raspberry or leather. So today, on a chilly Fall day, I decided to test drive Black Saffron again. And much to my surprise, I don’t hate it. This is leather forward with a small amount of saffron. I’m not sure I’m smelling raspberry but there is something fruity about it. In fact it reminds me of fruit stewing in a pot.

Black Saffron also reminds me of a smoky nightclub, not that the scent is smokey but it reminds of something you might smell in an after hours club with big leather chairs and ashtrays that need to be emptied. I don’t like to gender perfume and truly believe anyone can wear what they please, but this leans masculine.

I’m happy that I wore this again in colder weather. This isn’t a bad perfume, in fact it’s one of my favorites from Byredo even though I will never wear Black Saffron. It’s simply not my style.

Jamello89

I feel to chemical notes here. These brands they do not produce themselves, show a similar structure in their perfumes... Same skeleton, different dress..

Mermaid922

I own the bottle but probably wouldn't buy again. I like it, but to be entirely honest, the opening smells purely of cocaine. Like, very obviously, to the point I can't imagine it wasn't noticed by someone? This cocaine opener lasts for just a few minutes, then it relaxes into a bit of a leather and cherry coke scent to me. Longevity is okay, a few hours but it won't last all day.

Liz70

I really wanted to like this, but I agree with a review a few down from here. For me, its cloying and has a rotten-fruit potpourri type top and middle. The dry down isn't bad-more vetiver and leather, but not enough for me to buy. To me, it smells like a cheap perfume trying to be expensive and lux.

Sanch

It is definitely an underrated perfume and this is by far one if my favourite Byredo perfume. Personally, this is the perfume I wear on a big night out. It’s strong and attention grabbing. Performance dies out after 4 hours on me.

It’s dark and mysterious – I love it!

the Smell of Derbyshire

I had it and sold it. I can't deal with it. Too claustrophobic, too weirdly choking fruit but not in a clean fruit way.

Imagine walking into an old ladies house, height of summer, all the windows closed, she's a smoker and has a giant bowl of potpourri sitting in the direct sunlight.

siobhanfaul

This one smells exactly like my friend after she smokes a cigarette— she wears a Chloé frag. The second I sprayed this on my skin I immediately thought of her.

heymit

Ok, this is interesting. I've learned yet something that I already knew: never judge a fragrance on blotter strips. Having read particular reviews on Black Saffron and with a name that assumes darkness, I had high expectations. Or should I say, different expectations. When I first sprayed it on a blotter I was flabbergasted. Is this seriously called a leather fragrance? It is super light, flowery, fruity and pretty feminine to my taste. I was so suprised that I went back to the store in order to double check if they hadn't made a mistake, perhaps they filled the decant with another fragrance? (They didn't). I mean, one review mentioned that he could see a goth guy wearing this. That had to be a heavy, deep, dark, leathery scent, right? Ofcourse, reviews are subjective.

However, I almost forgot about the sample until today, when I sprayed it on my wrist after taking a shower. And wow! It's so much better. The top reminds me of Tuscan Leather, but a little lighter, more transparent. A bit more feminine, but not exclusively. I can see myself wearing this. Not in winter, but in spring and summer. Towards the drydown it becomes smoky. This is where it gets interesting to my nose. I keep on going back to my wrist to sniff. It's well blended, the notes come to you in layers. I like that. I have to add, that at the same time I had a different fragrance (Wall Street by Bond No 9) on my other wrist, so that most likely influenced my experience smelling Black Saffron on my skin. (Wall Street is a salty, watery, blue, aqua-aldehyde scent.)

I'm sharing this because I got on the wrong foot with this fragrance by judging it on a blotter. I remember thinking it was disgusting and for women only. I thought I'd NEVER wear this. Now I think differently. Hope that helps.

EDIT: I got myself the 12ml edition :)

jeffwithfrags

This has quickly climbed to the top of my Spring pile. But it can be rocked in Summer, Autumn and even has a space in winter with it's berry note adding a festive lean. Virtually anything except the high heat basically.

For me (and I think Ambre narguile is too daring and almondy off-putting ), this went on easy and smooth.

An amazing feat of a clean, yet very slightly fruity/berry-sweet in the background juniper and pomelo; like that popular summer refresher drink Bottle-green; that exactly utilities Grapefruit and raspberry.

And it quickly got better from that 1st spray, more addictive, more intoxicating with layers of a rosy but very mild floral to a backdrop of what smelled like almost divine incense to me.

All this while, a luscious, sweetish yet photo-realistic raspberry is growing stronger.

This alongside a suede; not a 'leather' per say (smoke, animalic, rubbery all that Tuscan leather volume 9 nosegasm), and also not an annoying brite and girly powder bombe like LV's Mille-feux.

This scores that hattrick,, knocks it out of the park with all the balanced facets giving rise to a remarkable signature scent; it's Tuscan leather done right and proper. Civil yet luxurious.

The amazing blend yields further notes of an insency sandalwood, is this a hidden gem or just a crazy version of the vetiver and leather working together?

Best Byredo (and maybe suede/leather scent) by a mile, and possibly a Top 10 if not even top 5 scents of all time for me.

A daftly underrated classic.

My rating: 10/10

Citywolfie

This is an underrated, exquisite, delicious and unique fragrance that's incomparable with anything else I've smelt. Really reflects a happy mood. It manages to be floral and sweet without being too floral and sickeningly sweet like most western fragrances and yet still masculine (for me anyway).

There's something else eerily familiar about this that I can't put my finger on (I can't see it in the listed notes)and was surprised and relieved to find that the creator/collaborator of this fragrance was influenced by his trip to India.
Perhaps that's the connection, floral freshness in an Indian summer that's so nostalgic.
I can't stop sniffing my skin, I've never smelt this before but yet it's familiar. It's a very fresh homage to India that's not fresh like mainstream fragrances.
Don't ask me about projection and sillage. I don't care about such material things. This to me is contentment, reincarnation and nirvana in a bottle.
An uplifting transcendent spiritual experience for me! 5 out of 5 stars.

Ivyswirl

Not what I expected... It's like eating a delicious raspberry dessert in the garden as someone paints the fence with creosote next to you.
I like it actually but I have to say that I'm pretty disappointed in life with leather notes, you seem to either have the suede note which is fine with me or the leather note that smells like creosote or saffraleine types that smell more like new car. So far I can't seem to find a good leather note like an actual leather shop!

This smells of creosote, raspberries with a hint of juniper and grapefruit on me, it's nice and grows on me but not very saffron-y considering the name and I'd pass on a full bottle...

isabella_andromeda

One of my first real forays into independent perfume - this was one of the ones I tested in the shop and liked the smell. Been given a 2ml sample but not worn for a full day yet (will update as and when).

A sort of sideways, really-quite-sweet take on South Asian spices. To me it smells a bit like someone made a curry with fruit and it turned out to be a delicacy. So far I like it, and it's nice for the season (September-October) as well.

lemonlye

To me this smells almost identical to Solstice Scents Black Forest. Except the Byredo has Iso E Super. (So far that seems to be a major note in all the Byredos I've tried.) So if you want Black Saffron without the ol' Iso-E, try SS Black Forest!

drdelano

I found a niche' house that does a reformulation of Blk Saff that is spot on to Byredo's...The price difference here is the swing vote....I have never had someone come up to me and say "you smell great, how much did you pay for that"? No ego to worry about here, if I smell good, I smell good, I don't care if Howdy Doody makes it...

trabuquera

Basically Tom Ford Tuscan Leather + Black Orchid, mixed and diluted into a much weaker solution, repackaged with minimalist design and a fat price tag for niche cred... and that's all she wrote.

Personally still I liked it a lot, but raised an eyebrow at how feeble the performance is (it scrunches right down to skin scent only in under 3h on me) and how much less sumptuous it was than I was expecting. Maybe the name and the notes listed here were misleading me, but I was braced for something rich, deep, dark, velvety sexy, etc etc etc - full of really lush spice and on the edge of being overbearing. Instead it's just a rather nice, rounded, feminine fruity-floral suede - almost girlish, rather than womanly. Didn't get any juniper at all, and saffron only really detectable if I snorted and sniffed and deep-inhaled from a few millimetres above the skin. Tuscan Leather Lite for Ladies, maybe.

It's perfectly OK - it won't scare anyone, or repel anyone, or lose you any friends. But mein gott, from the way people talk about this one I was expecting a complete showstopper. This is just a warm, friendly, discreet chat with a classy friend, not the exotic adventure I'd hoped for.

Given the floral-ness I am not sure how comfortable male wearers would be with it, but none should be deterred from trying - it doesn't scream "diva!". In fact it doesn't scream anything, that's my problem with it, it just sings under its breath, kind of.

blackmartini

Smells like a fruity leather couch...

corkscrewcurly

I am sorry, but this is a negative review; judging by most of the comments here, this won't be popular. It may help somebody though, so I am going to upload it anyway. My apologies to those people who love it - this is purely subjective, of course.

Testing from two sprays to the back of my right hand, from an official sample kindly sent me by Indigo to cheer me up. (Thank you, my lovely.)

I'm listing the notes below, as they are slightly different on Byredo's website. I checked, because I seem to be smelling something which isn't listed.

Top: Juniper berries, pomelo, saffron
Middle/heart: Accord cuir, black violet, cristal rose
Base: Blonde woods, raspberry, vetiver

The INSTANT I spritzed this, I smelled violets. I didn't even need to look at the notes. Violet is dominant on my skin and - unfortunately for me - it's the smell of Parma Violets, saccharin-sweet and powdery. For anyone who isn't of a certain age and from the UK, I'll clarify: Parma Violets were horrible, chalky, violet-flavoured "sweets" which were (still are?) available in the UK in the 60s/70s.

My dislike of Parma Violet sweets immediately predisposed me to dislike Black Saffron; I know that's unreasonable of me, so I've let it dry down to give it a chance.

Even on drydown, the dominant note wafting up from my hand is violets. Bringing my hand closer to my nose reveals a sweet fruity scent - watermelon? It's raspberry of course, but I don't think I could have identified it as that without reading the notes. I'm also picking up on a (unlisted) slightly aquatic note, which - unfortunately - I don't like, either. Calone is it?

Sniffing with nose close to my skin, I can smell a sweetened leather, saffron and little else. There are some beautifully blended perfumes with leather notes which I love: Fan de Fendi and Cartier La Panthere, for example. But two I can't stomach are Cabochard Gres and L'Artisan's Skin on Skin.

Whilst I don't find Black Saffron as disagreeable as the last two perfumes I mentioned, I don't like it; to me - the notes are really jangly and discordant. Admittedly, BS and I got off on the wrong foot as soon as I smelled the Parma Violets, but... the notes just don't work together. BS feels like a jigsaw puzzle which has been put together all wrong - it feels like someone's decided that THIS bit goes THERE and jammed things in without checking elsewhere for a better fit. Ironically, the blurb accompanying the perfume on Byredo's website says: "Black Saffron is a fragrance inspired by this very idea of sublime unity."

Black Saffron is definitely NOT a safe blind buy (and you'd be mad to buy without testing, at £105 sterling for 50ml).

Taliera

I've never smelled anything quite like it. I love it! The best thing about it is it manages to do dark notes in a very light way.

There are fresh and floral-fruity notes paired with peppery and leather notes. The whole thing comes across as cold, clinical and austere. The leather isn't dirty. It is also NOT "non-sweet"...

I think it is very modern (in a few decades we'll call it dated!) And minimalist. Very Swedish. Meticulously crafted. The perfume equivalent of high-end Scandanavian design.

For all its palatable high notes, this has a deep base. It is black (like peppercorns) not red (like saffron), even though I know saffron is the key ingredient! The raspberry is nothing foody, and isn't all that obvious to me. There's a slight bitter twist - juniper and vetiver.

I think it is very approachable.... And unique.

Grasshoppaaa

Black Saffron is an aromatic suede. This is a very elegant fragrance. The presence leans heavily towards the feminine side, but the beautiful aromatic blend has such a distinct quality of stimulation and comfort to it! I could easily see this fragrance being in some man's private collection at home.

Black Saffron opens up with a sweet combination of raspberry, suede, and saffron; with a seductive cashmeran—that has more of a silky or lace-like quality to it. The backdrop is a very well-blended set of fresh notes, that seemingly provide the perfect lift for the body.

It's an amazingly comfortable feminine embrace. It feels like a woman throwing her arms over your back, and the smell of her feminity falls over you; totally enrapturing you in the comfort of her presence and affection.

The vibrancy here promotes a high energy feeling, and gives me a feeling of the outdoors and the Autumn season (with the sweet leaves in the air—and the fresh, chilly breeze through the trees).

I've sampled Tuscan Leather as well, and I can honestly say that Black Saffron is the perfected version of it. It has everything a woman loves—without any question to its perfection.

All the glow—and stimulation that just triggers instant perfection to a woman's senses. Definitely a masterpiece fragrance—and easily worth every penny. Black Saffron for all the best qualities that define a high-class perfume. This would be like the perfect gift for the woman of your desire, as all of the good feelings that this invokes for her could be sure to make her go crazy for you.

Byredo / Black Saffron

The Oriental Spicy group

Odor: hot, bitter and spicy

Distribution and durability: medium to high

Starting note:

A cool and cool vibrant start with a grapefruit heart with a bitter flavor, clean taste and a beautiful smell that comes from grapefruit and blubbery gives the fragrance a happy and green space, this is just the beginning of a few moments with the arrival of saffron It will not last longer.
With a saffron that has a smell of bitter sweetness, it provides a delicate, soft, and intimate skin with a delicate fragrance. And, beautifully, it delivers the full range of perfumes to unveil the skin.

Aroma passage from the beginning of the middle notes after the presence of the chocolate chords in the form of spicy, warm and smoky and sweet
Then there is leather and gum.

Middle notes:

The aroma of the flower with a violet flower floral, powdery, sweet and smell of wood is a little smoother and more enjoyable.
At the time, the fragrance was slightly clean and soap. Heavy and smoky aroma is a pleasant atmosphere and has a special aroma.

The aroma atmosphere at this stage is made of woody smoked, spicy and spicy scented leather hides and warm warm, sweet balzamiki, wine.

Final note:

With the presence of the chestnut of the heart of the heart, the aroma is more intense than amber, animal, black and heavy, along with the earthy layers, thick, dry, and smoky vetiver with sweet and delicious raspberries.

The axis and the overall atmosphere of the fragrance are the same as in the previous stages, hot and bitter, sweet and smoky.

The image of Black Saffron in my mind was a perfect man, dignified, self-confident, mysterious, dandy, intriguing and loving.

Perfume Notes:
The concept of Unisex is fully adhered to in this fragrance.
It's a pretty and awesome balance of accordades, it's not annoying.
The artwork is beautiful in its generalities and details

The best option for you to wear is formal parties and parties.
I suggest you have a special place in your collection.

The Black Saffron classifies famous perfume like Godolphin, Tuscan Leather. I know Black Saffron more mature and better. However, I would like the leather scent to have more smokes like Tuscan Leather to control more sweets and have a heavier area of tobacco Do this job

Addictive, Narcotic, Very bossy leather and musky with a touch of fruit.

Byredo / Black Saffron

گروه بویایی: Oriental Spicy

Byredo / Black Saffron

Addictive,Narcotic,Very "bossy" leather and musky with a touch of fruit.

I didn't think of saffron or anything black to be quite honest whiffing this.

I don't like or dislike this, I sampled this with Byredo Pulp and I felt that Pulp easily had more going for it than this

No idea why this is called black saffron or is considered to be unisex. Strong, and unnaturally sweet, raspberry with the tiniest hint of leather is all I got for the best part of 8 hours. Good performance, if a bit linear, overtly feminine and absolutely no sign of anything black or saffron related here.

It starts sweet and dries to some odd cucumber-leather scent. Doesn't smell like Tuscan Leather to me at all, except for the fact they both have a "leather" note. Perhaps, I would have liked this one more, but that industrial cucumber note gives it an air freshener vibe.

One of the giant pile of samples I got at a meetup - A good chance to try things I normally wouldnt go for.

Black Saffron opens with a juicy burst of raspberries that screams 'department store generic' to my nose. Then the leather/suede swiftly comes to the fore and lingers around a bit. Its quite clean and pleasant at this stage. Doesn't seem to project - I am wearing it but I can't smell it on me unless I put my nose to my arm.

Kind of fluffy and soft and warm. Which is nice.

Just nice.

Pleasant.

Not at all compelling.

Only reaffirming my opinion that Byredo is the niche Basic - entry level, overpriced, nice enough packaging to gain a cult following, but ultimately disappointing. I am yet to find one that feels special.

This is Oud Saphir without the burnt ash or smokiness from the birch. It’s a great fragrance. Had I known about this one, I may have bought it instead of Oud Saphir, which is one of my favorites, just to avoid the ashy note that comes and goes with the OS. When I use up my OS, I will replace it with this.

This is a good leather for the summer, too, being light enough on the leather and with the added sweetness. Just imagine a snow cone in a leather cup.
