vipariously

Coconut-scented body-soap/shampoo/conditioner.

No fig or tea notes whatsoever.

Leans more feminine to me.

maritimesunset

A synthetic and uninspiring simulacrum of freshness and spice. A mall store like Hollister but the teen clientele have aged into generic millennial office workers and all the clothes are muted androgynous loungewear

HugoAlfie

An instant classic. Comforting tea scent with a stunning opening of fig and cardamom.

sarytica

Gris carnal me recuerda a un montón a casa de mi abuela en la costa (sin relacionarlo con la playa), un lugar muy cálido y ventoso, un jardín de tierra húmeda y frutas maduras.

mkperfume

I wish I smelled what you guys are smelling!! All I get is a faint figginess in the opening. Zero projection. Maybe I'm anosmic to it. :(

clarafragrance

The beauty of this fragrance is almost impossible to describe. Got my sample one month ago, and I am completely in love with it.
Definitely love at first sniff, but a different kind of love that I’ve never experienced with a fragrance before. It has so much depth, sensuality and warmth that you’re immediately being drawn into another world - where all senses are wide open. But what I love the most about it is the drydown- so soft and comforting while still being noticeable hours later. Amazing for autumn and winter due to its spicyness

User123

Finer, fresher and sweeter than its Extrait version.

marietangerine

Mmm this is so good. It’s exactly like Jus de Rose says, a milky chai latte with bits of fig in it. It’s so cozy and says ‘dark academia’ to me. Perfect unisex rainy day scent.

BandNerdChic

This perfume takes me on such a journey of opposites as it evolves and I am obsessed with every phase. It somehow both clean, fresh, and spicy as well as comforting, creamy, and woodsy. It starts out with a hint of spice and quickly becomes an expensive clean spa aroma that is very unisex. As it wears, its slightly feminine side comes out as the warm tonka rises to the top with the creamy sandalwood. It has a fluffy, creamy, woody balance until the tonka subsides, and then becomes perfectly unisex again as the woods dominate. In the end, it becomes a comforting skin scent. Signature worthy for a “cool girl”/“clean girl” vibe, or any man who loves the same notes. Full bottle worthy, though I want to try the extrait as well!

gvmfrag

This perfume is a masterpiece. The first time i smelled my sample, I actually hated it, and thought it smelled like menthol cough drops. But after I left the fragrance alone and came back to it, I experienced something like no other. This is in my top 5 scents of all time and will forever be on my Fall/Winter rotation. It made me fall in love with iris and fig as notes and I can detect them in any perfume now. But this blend is so intoxicating. I would describe it as "creamy and spicey", which is why i think it is often compared to chai. As an avid chai drinker, I don't get that comparison at all but i do get the creamy spicy quality. It is just gorgeous.

Bizzy1995

Cardamom, fig and tea all detectable in the opening. As it dries the violet and a smoky boozy vetiver come through. Warm sanadalwood and Tonka in the base. Each note listed is noticeable and all complement eachother well.

Kpick89

At first spray, I get a similarity between this and milk expressive. There’s something slightly sweet at first but then dries down to a warm, woody, slightly masculine meaning scent.

Katyaintheact

"Gray" is a good name as it's vaguely sweet, vaguely woody, vaguely powdery and nothing really stands out about this perfume. That being said it is a very soft and pleasant scent that is appropriate for daytime, and it projects fairly well. It has that buttoned up, mature feeling to it that all the BDK perfumes I have tried have.

Andjsa

Smells a bit like cough syrup at first. Maybe it's the cardamom and fig. It's syrupy (but not exactly sweet) and almost has a gum turpentine scent. It's not an overly strong fragrance but whenever I get a whiff of it, I can feel it in the back of my throat like I'm struggling to swallow a tablespoon of Robitussin. Slightly gag inducing, even though I don't think it necessarily smells bad.

On the dry down, it kind of smells like Playdoh. A little sweet and powdery/doughy, with a hint of something plastic. I suppose it's the iris and sandalwood combination. Again, not necessarily bad, but not exactly my thing.

evenstevens13

You are walking through the woods after a thunderstorm. You are surrounded by very tall trees and the sky above you is still grey. You hear the distant rumble of thunder. You decide to take a break from your walk and sit down on a fallen log that is wet from the rain. You take in a deep breath of the damp, earthy air. It cools your lungs. You feel incredibly peaceful.

SilvaDanica

It’s my favourite. It’s warm, spicy and I agree with one of the other reviews, it smells almost caramelised without it being too heavy. To me, it smells safe. Like a good hug or having something warm and spicy to drink, but there’s a powerful sexiness to it as well, even if it’s subtle. It’s perfect.

chosesvert

first impressions: on the understated side of things. Warm + spiced, as described, but we're not stuck in fall here. Warm skin, freshly showered, tea... how much i like this sort of snuck up on me. gris like an overcast day in spring ?

yuki99999

Love it, love it. I love woody scent, and my first love ever is Dark Amber & Ginger Lily Jo Malone. Gris Charnel is kind of same family, very addictive for me.

Vanillastorm40

I was expecting something spicy. I smell a fresh fig. I'm not getting the cardamom and tonka bean. I'd consider this a "freshie". I wanted to try it because it gets a lot of hype. It's nice. But not what I was hoping for. Edit: I DO actually get the cardamom but it's not spicy enough for me.

Bigreddal

Warm spicy, sandalwood, and heavy tonka bean. tingles the nose, quite strong. Hints of floral notes. Almost smells charred or caramelized. Complex and interesting. Fall, winter, maybe spring. 9/10

mmiamuse

I think this is absolutely beautiful. A perfectly executed unisex fragrance. A new fave added to my collection! Anything that has cardamom as a prominent note, I tend to enjoy. Many may say this leans toward more of a cold weather fragrance but I will wear this in every season. It makes me feel cozy and relaxed…I want to feel like that year round!

Ayshin

Way too masculine and "spicy" for my taste
Longevity and projection is okay.
Somehow the cardamom is most prominent note in this
I don't get the hype with this fragrance, i've smell better from other niche brands

Featherinster

Amazing. My favourite everyday scent. A slightly floral, beautifully creamy sandalwood scent, added to by the Tonka bean which makes it even creamier and almost adds a slight tobacco note.

Birdie123

I really like this one! It opens with a very sharp note that I can't really pin down, but that disappears in a few minutes. To my nose, it smells of iris (powdery) and tonka, which to me is a smooth, warm tobacco smell. I get a tiny bit of tea and a boozy note. It is a unisex scent, it smells warm, powdery, perhaps slightly sweet. Longevity and projection are decent.

toosimilar

That one exact smell you'd love to sniff from somebody :)
It's spicy, creamy and sweet, really unusual one:)
Even a bit of cherry (even tho not listed) after it settles on skin!
And it definitely smells niche!

jbaby283

Got a tester of this last year and I immediately put this in my wishlist. Finally got a FB of it at the beginning of this year.

This is mostly a wonderful woody, warm spicy, creamy, balmy, coconuty sweet perfume. I love everything about it. This develops and radiates very well on my skin and just becomes stronger and sweeter the longer I wear it. It lasts all day with strong-moderate projection and it definitely leaves a scent trail. I know it because there was this one time I wore this to work, sat at my work station working, then went to the restroom, then went back to my work station and I could smell myself everywhere there lol. It's also very comfy, like a fuzzy cashmere blanket so I also love wearing this to sleep or when I work from home. Defo a compliment-getter, I've always got compliments wearing it. Perfect for colder months, the colder the more suitable. I can see myself wearing this to everywhere, as long as it's cold outside: date nights, formal events, holiday parties, night-outs, at home, to work. I don't think I'll ever reach for it in warmer months. Can be cloying if oversprayed so not very public transport friendly.

In a way, this doesn't smell like a perfume but more like a home fragrance. But also because of that, it doesn't lean towards any gender.

9/10 - minus one because it doesn't excite me enough to be a 10, but it's defo a very nice, well-blended perfume and I do love it.

vanillabeanshampoo

LET THIS REST!!! Give this 20 minutes ON THE SKIN, it’s the creamiest Iris + Tonka. Smells very similar to Scarlet Poppy by Jo Malone, can’t believe nobody has mentioned it yet.

yasalice

It smells like a wooden closet that held my mother's clothes when she was young, and 30 years later I opened the closet and took a shirt from that closet to wear. That shirt is Gris Charnel at first spray
*in a good way*

Aquinabc

I tried it cause everyone loves it. It smelly very masculine. Not my cup of tea

Elli Dhm

When you go to Selfridges ready to invest in this, but it is oh so fleeting on your skin! Heartbroken, as it smells incredible, glad I waited first to check its performance. Alas! It evaporates within a 3-hour window on me.

ecomert

I am happy that I purchased this. Just like the color of the juice, it is perfect for rainy weather. I love how sunny it was when I entered the shop to buy this, and when I leave, it was drizzling.

melleners

The cardamom is strong on opening, but this dries down to a very pretty, comforting figgy, tea scent. I like this one.

Nanax991

Uff this smells addictive. It's one of my favorit perfume purchases and will definitely be my signature for now. It is a bit smokey, creamy, powdery, warm yet fresh. It smells like drinking that ahmad cardamom black tea with milk while snacking on some figs. Not "Chai Latte" with cream and vanilla, really just dry cardamom black tea with plain milk. To me the edp leans more feminine because the iris is giving it a powdery twist, but I tried the extrait version as well which is more on the masculine side. (Extrait smells divine as well, I would love this on a man)

Can't say much about longevity and sillage since I just got it but I tried it in the store before and the perfume lasted until the next morning on me. My whole closet smells like that one sweater I sprayed it on to try!! And the bottle there was newly opened. But don't expect beast mode or MFKs baccarat rouge! It is strong but inoffensive.

It's very expensive tho but was worth it for me. I will repurchase.

1954film

Not grey like cement but grey like soft, warm cashmere by the fireplace in a cottage with a lover.

Getting a lot of cardamom from this! Enjoyable but feels very seasonal — wearing this on a hot summer day would be too dissonant.

Drisha

It’s a pretty inoffensive creamy smell, regrettably lasts on me max 3 hours, also it sits very close to the skin, it’s a pity.

R4N

Unique scent, personally i think its a good scent but not for my taste. Unisex IMO. Performance are pretty good.

lanaconstantinova

It's way too medicinal and spicy for me. It like pharmacy which isn't bad, just personally I like happy compositions on me or around me. So, no I won't buy the whole bottle.

fluffyfairy

It's ok, quite linear and nothing special. IMO not worth the price tag.

Ruthmarie0

My husband says It smells like grandma... My opinion is that smell very interesting, but It's not for me.
---------------------
After initially being unsure, I decided to give this fragrance a second chance. I’m glad I did because it has truly grown on me. The complexity and depth of its scent profile have captured my interest. I look forward to continuing my exploration of this fragrance, savoring each note and nuance. It’s a journey of olfactory discovery that I’m excited to continue

Razorbrown

Absolutely gorgeous from stem to stern. Comforting, soft, round and creamy with a tiny hint of spice. I can see how this would translate masculine in the dry down if you have certain associations, but I would argue that it stays pretty neutral. My skin chemistry is insanely finicky, and this dries down beautifully on my wrists to a gently woody sweetness. It’s worth the hype, worth the price. Added to my wish list.

kermzie

the most beautiful thing i had ever smelled until one day i started finding it completely repulsive. like damp pencil shavings and depression. bewildering and tragic. rip

TRAGANCFE

overhyped BDK still very nice, I admit this smells pretty good but it is getting a little common

daffodilsandcoffee

I've come to love fig, tea, and cardamom so this is right up my alley. When you read the description about a carnal encounter in Paris, it matches the unisex aspects of the fragrance. Like the blend of a masculine cologne and feminine perfume on the skin after a night of fun.

Is it beast mode? No. Is it going to get you noticed? Probably not. Do I care? Not one bit. I wear this purely for my own enjoyment and even though it's not super loud, getting whiffs of it is totally worth it.

Hexagi

Unfortunately for me it is a disappointment. When reading the descriptions and some reviews, I expected something with a distinct, unique character - a scent that would immediately arouse curiosity and leave me with a clear memory of it. In my case, I don't detect much in it other than some sweetness and milkiness. Don't get me wrong - by all means it is a pleasant scent - cosy and warm unisex. However, there are many scents that evoke similar associations. Longevity, compared to the price of the perfume, is poor. Projection - very close to the skin, too close for me. After about 3 hours I don't smell anything.

GracieLions

Am I the only one who can barely smell anything?? When I put my nose right up against it I recognise that it smells really good, but the sillage is practically non-existent. Disappointing. :(

monamushroom

At first this gives a very musky and masculine opening, but after a while it gets sweeter and almost more feminine leaning. It is very dry and the cardamom gets very overpowering, and blended with some other notes it gets a bit too much. It is the same things I did not like in Santal 33, but in this there is something green that balances this towards something fresher. I understand that people like this, and I understand the hype, but it is not a wow for me, and I have other figs that I like better.

The final drydown is spicy and amber-y and much sweeter. When the fig, sandalwood and tea notes get together it could be a big like or almost a love for me, but I can’t get through the start unfortunately.

Enzoka123

I wanted to like this but in my opinion it is a true masculine scent, grandpa aftershave. This could appeal to a younger crowd who possibly didn’t grow up with men in the household. Cardamom dominant, that overpowers every other notes possibly in it. It also reminds me of the Indian food where you accidentally bite on the cardamom pod and makes you gag.
This always comes down to previous scent memories.

mrsz.o-o

This is my workhorse! It’s my go-to when I want to wear something nice and inoffensive. I wear it to the office most days. The pyramid is accurate so it's a safe blind buy. The performance is meh but I’ll probably repurchase.

JangJun

Begin like Amouage Boundless Man and Search in dry down. With additional light iris scent like Bleu Noir Parfum. They got rewarded not because the scents of this perfume, imo.

JonnyFrags

An unbelievably amazing and well-blended fragrance. It’s the perfect balance of sweet, spicy, aromatic and creamy.

If you’re worried about longevity go with the extrait version. It’s a bit more spicy and less creamy/powdery but it definitely lasts longer than the EDP version.

Gris Charnel is without a doubt the best offering from BDK.

Chelssmellsgood

The best way I could describe this scent: walking into the store Lush. It smells exactly like the store.

aleckzandurh

Baby's 100th review lol~

Gris Charnel really is *that* girl. I ordered about 12 different samples, a mix of cult-classics I wanted to try out and a few oddball things I thought I'd personally enjoy. Out of all of these, it was clear that Gris Charnel stood out as one of the most beautiful and likable. Just so, so lovely. I get cardamom the most out of it, but it really is a perfect blend of fruit, woods, and flowers that doesn't smell like any particularly distinguishable thing.

I guess it really does live up to it's reputation (unlike some of these Nishane samples... 👀). I seldom urge people to sample things so fervently, but it really is a gorgeous, gorgeous scent. ♡

Timaka

This smells really nice, comforting, cuddly and safe. Got a sample to see what the hype is about and after wearing it myself, I think it is more suitable for my boyfriend - simply comes down to the style of perfumes I enjoy to wear, which are more 'stereotypically' feminine, floral patchouli scents. Still think this would smell gorgeous on anyone. Performance and projection are moderate, it's rather close to skin at least when sprayed with a lighter hand.

sidesalad

I don't know how I feel about this, but I know other people love it. LOVE IT! So much so that I have an everlasting supply of Gris Charnel. In my far away land this was initially difficult to procure, so now I've managed to acquire (hoard?) many dubious samples, then travel sizes, then full 100ml bottles. I will honestly never be rid of it. But should I face some sort of playful professional tussel, this is my queen fighting along with me. Serious, tough, yet stylish, forgiving. A true all rounder. My spray when I don't know what else to spray (Diptique Opheon is my equal option).

ettenig sayam

At first spray the iris and fig notes exploded and made me say "wow!" An hour later I sniffed and smelled nothing. I brought my wrist to my nose and asked" "Where did that lovely fragrance go?" 2.5 hours later if I push my arm to my nose, and inhale deeply, I can detect a teeny weeny whiff of that fragrance. I used about 7 sprays. Maybe I should I try 20? I have a 10ml decant. Based on this performance I am not confident this is full bottle worthy. I like that first sniff, but I don't want to spend money on a fragrance I have to refresh every 30 minutes. That's a bit much.

AnastasiaGostieva

Absolutely delightful scent! Perfect balance of spices, woody and fruity notes. Creamy and sweet but with a nice fresh cardamom touch. One of the best fragrances in this direction.

This would be an all-timer if the performance was better.

Gris Charnel BDK Parfums

Got a nice deal for Gris Charnel from an overseas wholesaler. Been on the lookout for a good priced bottle because it's rated highly. After wearing it, I can understand why.

Its nice, very aromatic, spicy semi-sweetish and powdery, a little bit fruity with some green nuances. I think the scent is pretty complex and very well blended because I wasn't able get a prominent stand out note but the fig's sweetness is there, cardamom spiciness
is there, not sure if I'm getting the tea but the powdery iris is the only one that probably standout more for my nose and the sandalwood which is rather soft too.

I'll say it's actually rather unisex and not too musculine. Any ladies can wear this and smell good too. I don't have a male scent in my collection that smells like this But I do get similarities with a ladies scent I have, Crystal Noir Versace, the sweetness and powdery and same kind of sandalwood there has similarities.

Judging from how Gris Charnel develops on my skin, I don't think it will be that lasting, it has this nice calming effect for the wearer for all occasions and settings but I'm guessing it's about 6+-hrs. I did give it some good sprays so hopefully it'll last me some 8hrs or so. I'm also wearing it mostly in Aircon and I feel a warm environment might be better to give the scent a push and get it to project more with some silage.

Overall, it's a scent that I'll probably will like More if I wear it more often, not an instant love like some I've reviewed recently. Still a good buy at usd$135.

icecore

Scent wise, its beautiful and calming. Performance wise, terribly bad. The projection and sillage only last for 1h, then i need to bring my hand to my nose to smell it. Not worth the money. There are more better options with better scent and better performance, way better performance! Cant understand the hype behind this, totally not worth the price tag, even cheaper frag can outperform this and smells better.

anni_n

Gris Charnel by BDK Parfums is like a warm, mysterious embrace that lingers long after the initial encounter. The blend of cardamom's spice, the sweetness of fig, and the depth of black tea strikes a chord in the soul, evoking a sense of adventurous sophistication. The heart notes of iris and bourbon vetiver add a layer of refined elegance, while the creamy sandalwood and tonka bean base envelops you in a comforting warmth. Wearing it, I feel an irresistible blend of confidence and intrigue, as if I'm cloaked in a scent that whispers tales of distant lands and hidden stories. It's not just a fragrance; it's a journey that transforms the mundane into the extraordinary, making me feel both grounded and ethereal at the same time.

books.art.dogs

If you love sandalwood, you'll like this one. This has the same sandalwood note that you can find in Versace Crystal Noir, as well as Zadig and Voltaire This is Her! Except while those fragrances are quite sweet in their own ways, Gris Charnel is very fresh. I would compare Gris Charnel to Orientica's Arte Bellisimo Exotic- both fresh, spicy sandwoods with moderate performance), except Exotic has a coconut note while Gris Charnel has the fig.
This would be a great year round or signature fragrance. Also good for work with the moderate longevity and intimate to moderate projection.
I like Gris Charnel quite a bit, but I wouldn't pay full price for it. There are so many great dupes with better performance.

qianqian

Got 100ml FB when there is 20% discount near 2024 Valentine's Day. I got a sample last month and I was so obsessed with it. It arrived today.

Scent: it's an airy blend of fig, black tea and sandalwood. To me only the fig is obvious. Not sure what black tea should smell like! I don't get much woody notes as they are so well blended and not one scent stands out too much.

Style: elegant and relaxed. Like your typical French woman stereotype. I think it suits all seasons. No issues for office at all.

Performance: easily lasts 3-4 hours with projection. After that time it becomes a skin scent. Excellent longevity for an EDP.

lauracrasuleacmakeup

I really like this scent, but unfortunately on my skin it's so weak... on my husband too and the extract too. The longevity is very very poor... so sad.

ShooF

Got this on a tester to see if it would make the list, the way this gets raved about online I was expecting to be blown away! It's ok I'm just not getting the hype that surrounds this, prefer Rouge smoking to this so it's maybe just my preferences.

bailão

First impressions on this one: a very seductive and sexy perfume. It opens with cardamom and some tea notes (don't get the fig note), but to my nose, it quickly unfolds to sandalwood along with the Iris taking over the whole composition. It's a beautiful sandalwood-rounded fragrance, with the iris bringing some coziness and creaminess to it. A hitter, and has some kind of DH vibes as well, but more refined if I can dare to say that.

ScentedPlaza

Black tea with warm spices, creamy sandalwood, ginger & a touch of fig.
Enveloping, warm & cozy, slightly moody.
P.s. If you are looking for a cheaper alternative, try "This Is Us" by Zadig & Voltaire. Very similar warm spicy sandalwood with vanilla, but with a juicy ginger instead of a fig.

I should have known the vetiver would ruin this… I came into this expecting the fragrance to be reminiscent of chai latte, as many would often describe it online… the cardamom and tea notes are beautiful, yes, but the cinnamon is missing (and I’d personally like a bit more sweetness, whether brown sugar, honey or even vanilla)
And the dreaded vetiver turned this into bougie axe bodyspray. The cardamom+vetiver+sandalwood is purely men’s deodorant scented, just a bit more refined thanks to the tea, tonka and iris, but they weren’t able to make this into a beautiful drink, or anything remotely close to something I’d wear like, ever. It boggles my mind that this scent is so popular with the girls when I would see this as just ok in a man. It could be better blended, the harmony of the notes is a bit off. The power of the internet is truly terrifying. Not terrible, but definitely not worth the price tag. Or the hype.

jadepo21

This is nothing like what I was expecting. I smell no fig whatsoever. Just straight masculine spice. Another hard pass from BDK for me.

EverBla

I like it because I lean toward more unisex scents as my skin takes everything on, and it hangs around for days even after multiple washing. I love that overpowering cardamon at the beginning, even though it forced me to have waffles twice in past 2 weeks. The base is the best part. It fits me so well! I got quite a lot of compliments on it.

Nesne

Some women wear lingerie to feel sexy. I wear Gris Charnel. This is such as deep, dark, creamy sandalwood. It’s definitely in the santal 33 vibes and one of the best sandalwood scents imo. I’m very bummed this house is supporting genocide…so I won’t be repurchasing but despite that I have to give credit when credit is due.

stadensalex

Warm, creamy fragrance with very noticable notes of the tea and fig. Projects like glue that won't leave your skin after a couple hours, but smells heavenly. Scent not apparent on my skin after a few hours too.

Lovely scent, projects okay for a little while, but absolutely not a powerhouse. Extrait slightly edges it for me. 6/10

tilly222

I think this would smell so gorgeous and clean on a nicely dressed man. A great fragrance for the right wearer.
I don’t love it or hate it, just not for me. Another review said it smells soapy and I totally agree. It smells almost like an expensive, bougie hand soap. One of those spicy/aromatic hand soaps.

Edit: after a few days, this has grown on me sooo much. I thought it was ok initially but the dry down is divine on my skin. Sweet, vanilla, a little spice and sandalwood. It’s still soapy in the middle for me, but the dry down is so incredible. I think this fragrance has helped me realise that I really enjoy a sandalwood note.

disintigratedwoman

As a follow up to my review from a few months ago - unfortunately, I now find this hard to wear as I've realized it leans too masculine to my taste. I purchased this for the beautiful fig note, but unfortunately when worn on the skin, the sandalwood becomes extremely amplified and almost unbearable, making it a total spice bomb (as opposed to the creamy, airy scent I hoped it would be).

I tried seeing if my boyfriend would be willing to wear this, but it's not exactly to his taste. I'm selling my 100 ml bottle for anyone that is interested and located in Canada.

riata04

The cardamom and tea notes are lovely in this, but the fig note just did not work for me. I literally gagged the first time I tried it. However, my mom and sister both really liked it (and my sister asked to take it), so if you don't mind fig, you may love this.

Shalimar24

I adore this perfume! I bought it on vacation in Vienna after I noted to a shopgirl that I was looking for dark, amber scent. While amber is not noted on here as a note, I think that it should be because this is almost a remix on a traditional sticky ambar. I like using this especially at night in cold weather, sometimes outside of this context it feels a little too masculine. My husband actually tries to sneak this for himself sometimes, which I don't approve of. Anyway, love the value, longevity, and vibe of this fragrance. It makes me want to try more BDK products.

temporalgrace

So lovely and delicate! This to my nose satisfies the same craving as Vilhelm's Dear Polly. It finds a happy medium somewhere between Diptyque's Philosykos and Glossier's You. Fresh, charming, and not too sweet! The tea comes through beautifully as well as the juicy fig, and the iris and vetiver ground it in gentle powdery sophistication. Love

sajeda16102004

sexy fresh wow

MelissaKS

If you find this scent slightly too masculine, try layering it with Milk by Commodity or Blanche Bete. I like a 2:1 ratio of Gris Charnel to Milk. Milk adds a nice softness to GC.

cotui

Sin duda uno de mis favoritos de mi coleccion. Tiene un olor a higo bien refinado, acompañado del cardamomo y la madera.

CocoBlack

I don't like this, it smells very soapy and overwhelming.
Really wanted to love this but it is impossible

I get a tiny bit of the fig and a ton of sandalwood. It does not smell like chai.

mallowmist

My opinion is an unpopular one - I don't like this... The scent is just ok. After reading all the amazing reviews, I was so excited to try it and then was utterly disappointed, it was the worst one out of several BDK fragrances that I have ordered. It is so basic, it smells like an aftershave cream. I don't see where's all the hype coming from, I don't find it sexy, sultry or unique in any way. Smells more like clean soapy scent, nothing that makes me want to come back to it, even though I tried several times, wanted to wash it off immediately....

I can see the love affair with this one. Longevity is at least 12 hrs, Sillage is amazing. i kept smelling myself throughout the day with only 2 light sprays, it def melts into your skin and you can just feel the quality. It is a lovely scent and i so wanted to love it but not for me, it has a bit of a mature scent.
Don't blind buy until you try, try, try !

ladynoro

This is the perfect cozy "sweater scent." If you spray it on a nice sweater, it will last for weeks and weeks - even if you wash the sweater once or twice. However, it does not mix well with my skin chemistry. It smells very different on my skin than it does on my sweater - and I do not love how it smells on my skin. It just smells like a tonka bean-heavy Yankee Candle that gives you a headache. I do still regularly wear it during the cold weather but try to avoid my skin when I spray.

skm50

Have a travel size of this. And god I love this perfume but it disappears on me in a few hours and has litte-to-no projection. Such a shame because it really smells so good for fall and winter. Like a smokey chai latte. This a beautiful spicy cardamom that dries down into a powdery woody fig. But for the insane price tag I would expect it to perform at least halfway decent. I decided to not get the full size. I'm sticking with my Crytal Noir EDT that has a similar scent profile, half the cost, and performs better

vivan_

BDK Gris Charnel may be one of the most extraordinary fragrances I've encountered, distinguished by its uniqueness. The fusion of fig and cardamom with creamy sandalwood creates a scent that is not only luxurious but also exudes comforting, cozy vibes, reminiscent of a perfectly blended Karak Chai. Its longevity is impressive, and it projects well, standing out as one of the finest unisex scents available.

rinma

Boojie room spray. strong sharp sandalwood bomb, I can't find it original nor pleasant. It is too reminiscent of room scent sold in boojie home decor stores/luxury wall paper, I was accustomed to in the 90's/2000's...

katiejon

I’m trying to figure out why Gris Charnel reminds me of the cologne (maybe aftershave) that my grandfather used to wear back in the 1980’s. If anyone has any clue, please share it!

I guess because of this scent memory, I am reading this as purely masculine. Lovely, but IMO not feminine.

Micarls

Omg this smells so good. On paper, I wrote it off as another naturey-woody-tea scent and wasn't really dying to wear it. After letting it sit on skin for a few minutes, a little more sweetness comes out and the aroma is so pleasant. I am very interested in trying the extrait version for some more added sweetness which is more my vibe, but this is great. I see it as very unisex, maybe a bit masculine leaning, but honestly I just feel like a cool girl wearing it. Most of my fragrance loves have spring/summer scent profiles so I'm happy to find one that feels suitable for fall and winter!

Update: although the scent is still really lovely, something about the profile is just so strong that I've found myself needing to take a break from wearing it for a few days or else its too overwhelming. Probably won't be an everyday scent for me but I do still like it.

proxyz25

Wow, I got this as a sample, and this is beautiful. I'm a lover of strong woody and spicy scents, and this definitely hits the mark. Sandalwood and cardamon and this peppery spiciness is amazing, but the scent is well-balanced and not affronting. I would say this feels like a more gothic fragrance, but I love that!

JusttheFactsMan

#538 in my "Tour de Fragrance"

Not sure if the girlfriend will wear this, but we'll see. Most prominent note is the black tea. Like sniffing a cup of Earl Grey, which I love, but seems odd to me in a fragrance. It's got good sillage and longevity. Completely inoffensive in every way, so you could get away with this in any setting. This has a nice fig note, and I love iris of course, but I can't detect it under the strong tea smell. Not sure if she'll like it, but it won't break my heart if she doesn't. I prefer the Andrea Maack she likes anyway, but it was worth a try.

sw1707

Amazing fragrance that is well worth its hype in my opinion.

Very versatile but is more suited to a fancy restaurant/bar and will make you stand out from a crowd. That being said, this is not a powerhouse performer, but it does its job well enough to create a bubble around you for a good 6/7 hours.

The scent itself is a 10/10 in my opinion and to my nose is very unisex.

Overall 9/10 due to the high price tag, but I suppose you pay for good quality, which Gris Charnel definitely has.

sampaterson97

Such a calm and soothing blended fragrance. It smells exactly like the colour grey. Perfect for rainy days or cloudy days. Lasts around 5-6 hours with average projection.

rmnnnnn

I 100% agree with the comment below. This is a powdery scent with a bit of sweetness. 100% feminine. It reminds me all the powdery designer fragrances like Dior Homme Intense but then with a feminine sweet more gentle "twist". It's good but not for me, gave my sample to my girlfriend :)

ShooF

Got a 2ml decant/tester as I wasn't sure about spending £175 on a blind buy, sorry not getting the hype surrounding this one! So many of the YT fragrance people have this at their No.1, I really was expecting to be blown out of my socks! I'm getting powdery with a gentle sweetness but I'd struggle to identify the notes, certainly no spice. One of the cons above is too masculine- really! I can't think of one male fragrance that smells as powdery as this & to be it's 100% feminine. It does remind me of something, I'm leaning towards one of the Chanel No's. My thoughts may change but this isn't currently translating into a full bottle.

junimo

I don't think I've ever described a fragrance as both fresh and sexy. This is the one.

JJ2137

What is wrong with all these niche houses... this scent is designer territory and I've been smelling this since 2013... Had to spray my trusty 10yo Armani Eau de Nuit to make sure, and, of course, there is 90% similarity with miniscule differences, probably from fig+tea. And people pay premium for it.

I give it a high rating because after all this is gorgeous DNA, but testing this one reminded me to pick up another bottle of Eau de Nuit while its still floating on the market (for half the price of BDK). And I recommend you to do the same.

bafiis

Love the top notes, amazing. When they fade and it becomes a skin scent it's a liiiiil bit like crystal noir. Tiny lil bit. Same vibes. No wonder I love it so much, I wore crystal noir for my wedding :))

Goldena35

First Impression …I think this is beautiful and understand the hype. Cardamom, fig, tea and sandalwood I feel immediately. Warmer and spicier than I expected. 💯 unisex but IMO it leans a bit more masculine. This reminds me of AC’s Oolong Infini but stronger and creamier. They don’t share a lot of notes but the tea, vetiver and wood notes are all very prominent to my nose so I am guessing that’s it. I do get a creaminess from it and I think the sandalwood is well done. I don’t pick up much iris or tonka …maybe a little powder a few hours in. This is an understated, classy and easy to wear scent. My first BDK and I am impressed.

betheljaviles

This is the epitome of a "cool girl" scent, in my opinion. Perfect for the cooler months and gloomy, rainy days. I do enjoy the photorealistic fig element mingled with the tea notes; however, it is not as creamy as I expected. This is definitely a spicy, woody blend and gives a professional vibe over cozy and inviting. It's something I'll have on hand in a travel size, but not worth the price for full-bottle.

LinnieR

Not horrible, but I find this quite harsh and not well blended. The sandalwood comes across weird in a way I don’t really know how to describe, maybe it’s a combination with the cardamom (but it’s worth noting that cardamom is one of my favorite notes). This scent is ok, but not creamy at all, not worth the hype and not worth the price point.

Mllemarie

I want to like this so bad but I just cant.

Wheres this milky smooth fragrance people speak of? It most definitely does not smell like Chai which was so disappointing.
You absolutely must like fig as this to my nose is very very prominent in the composition. Green fig not sweet and quite bitter from the tea. Theres something very cloying and simply put overwhelming about this fragrance.

I’ll admit its a very unique distinct fragrance with good longevity. I can still smell traces of it in my Sweater sprayed 3 days ago. So 4/5 for unique and longevity.
Perhaps I would appreciate this wafting off someone else outside in small doses. However I find it too much and very displeasing to wear on my own.

jenniferg0924

This is completely unisex; it’s not feminine or masculine it’s is directly in the middle.

This does NOT smell like a chai latte at all. I have no idea where people are getting that from.

To me this is fig mixed with some woods and spice. Cardamom is present but not strong, sandalwood is also in the background. I smell no iris or tea at all.

Very long lasting with moderate Sillage.

I like it, don’t love it. It’s very unique!

Strelka

The smell of winter for me. This scent remids me a very specific time of my life. It makes me feel nostalgic.

ILove_Smelling_perfume

I really do love this scent but I wish I got that longevity and power that people say it leaves… i don’t find the sillage all that strong. I’m always reapplying after 2 hours. It sits very close to the skin and people don’t seem to really smell me with this unless they are very close to me.

kennedim1022

So I am not a fan of this scent in the bottle, at all. But after sitting on the skin for a couple hours, it really is addictive. I wish it was a bit creamier, but it’s still great. I wore this in the office and I honestly feel like that is the best setting for this one

dzzzzy

This is so good! It's like a drinking a hot latte on a winter night with a sandalwood candle burning. I like layering with a light vanilla scent to make it more feminine.

Flore-perfumista

So nice ! Perfect balance between powdery and woody blending. Cardamome is présent. The sweetness of the fig. Very surprised, a charismatism sillage. Feminine as well.

Bethfoz

Fig is becoming my new favourite perfume note. It’s so comforting and warm without being Christmassy. It’s sophisticated and established without being arrogant. Very much unisex.

annerbee

A no-brainer love for me. I enjoy how sexy this smells and it’s a go-to for parties or when I’m going out at night. Definitely lasts a while and stands out from other scents in my collection.

There’s also something warm and familiar about Gris Charnel, I think it’s the fig note? It was the first niche perfume that I knew I absolutely had to have and lived up to the hype for me. I get tons of compliments when I wear it. For me it “matches” anything black and sparkly. I could also see how this would smell great on a man even though for me it mostly leans feminine.

yaseminpol

Very similar to Jazz Club by MMM, woody and smoky. I like both but don't know where I could wear them tbh..

Adam2012

I have tried a sample from this through a friend and I loved it so much

markfromark

This one is weird. It opens with a dusty, yet creamy (?) tobacco. Once it dries down it is a woody tobacco mixed with Ganymede. Shout out to Mk2021 for calling out Ganymede. It was driving me crazy trying to pinpoint it. For some reason my brain just doesn't recognize anything familiar in Ganymede so I have trouble processing what it even is. It's a concoction so foreign I can't make heads or tails of it. I get very similar vibes here.

DISCLAIMER: This is using my nose and my skin, both of which can be prone to silliness. You might smell something completely different than me and that's the great thing about fragrance. I don't mean any hate with my reviews.

LALDN

I got another decant of this to give it a second try after the first just smelled like faint tobacco. And I’m so glad I did because now I have A better decant and it smells more nuanced and balanced. However, it’s still not a favorite. I’ll give it a full chance but I’m not sure why this is so many people’s favorite.

Caramel lady

This perfume exudes moody elegance.
The moodiness is captured beautifully by the colour of the juice, this isn't black - deep, dark and sultry moody.
But rather the overcast mood those below have described, rainy day feels.
It easily sits in-between polarisations, not warm but not cold and not bright but not dark.
It sits in the middle of an abstract scale, hard to describe - not too much of anything, and in a class of its own.

I often describe perfumes I love as polished, this is due to me searching for a perfume wardrobe that capture's my personality and style and I'd put this perfume in that category.
I'd say this can be pulled off very differently depending on outfit worn.

If you want to smell unique, this could be for you.

Caprisumn

This smelled good, but it was like tv static to me. I can’t describe the scent.

Update: It grew on me. It feels like “sweater weather” and cozy nights.

Elle's Bells

This has sat in my collection, ignored and untouched for a year. I decided to wear it tonight for bed and WOW!!! Gris Charnel is so pretty and has a freshness that I just adore. On my skin, I really get the fig, tea and iris. And it's beautiful!
I will make an effort to wear it more as I'm just smitten with how I feel while wearing it.

Seasky

I don’t think I can say anything about the Gris Charnel notes that hasn’t already been said - it’s a figgy, cardamom and creamy sandalwood dream.

I bought a full bottle back in June after falling in love with a sample. I thought it was gorgeous, but fell slightly short of the hype.

But once those temps dropped and the frost hit, OMG the magic starts. I thought I enjoyed it indoors, wrapped in an alpaca blanket and wearing handknit socks, but I love it even more outdoors where it seems to be somehow stronger and brighter. I think it’s my favourite scent ever.

SimpleButch

Desperately wanted it because of all the hype, hunted out a small bottle second-hand, and… I cannot wear it. It's too sweet, very cloying, and it induces a huge headache in me, a person very much not prone to headaches. I can only smell the sweet parts of the perfume: the syrupy fig, the nectarian iris, and as soon as they leave, tonka bean in their place, like some sort of overwhelming whale of scents. No tea, no vetiver or wood, and no spices. It is a generally nice smell, I might've even liked it on someone else. On myself even smelling it makes me feel ill.

leahlzander

A hot chai latte. Warm, cozy. The olfactory equivalent of an oversized sweater -- a cashmere sweater, mind. This might be a comforting fragrance, but the fig and vetiver are here to class up the place. For me, a perfect 10.

aweso10

the most perfect cup of chai by the fireplace... gris charnel is a cozy, aromatic treat- incredibly well blended, romantic but also comforting, gourmand but also fresh at the same time. i don't get quite as much fig as i would've hoped because i think it gets lost a bit in the cardamom and black tea. but i think the iris rounds out this fragrance very well, vetiver adds that dry tea-like grassiness, and tonka and sandalwood in the base provide the perfect splash of cream to your steaming mug of chai:) longevity is good- even better with the extrait i'm sure. would definitely consider a full bottle if not for the price tag!

Knightsbridge9

Such a beautiful fragrance. I have now worn this through Autumn and Winter, would also work really well in Spring. Upon the initial spray, you are welcomed with soft fig, sandalwood and cardamon. I also get a slight minty accord although its not listed.

The dry down is very linear.

Shpeeep

It's yummy but it's not for me. It's completely different on my skin than on paper, in fact the greenness is completely missing. I can't smell the fig leaf or dry woods on my skin, instead it's a warm coconut cake with syrupy florals. On other people I get 'sweet figgy wood man' on me I get china doll girly. It smells good, but I don't personally want to smell like this, and I am disappointed. I'm looking forward to trying the extrait, as I think the wood and spice will carry through enough to give me what I was looking for with this. I tend not to go in for very sweet smells generally, which is likely adding to my disappointment here. If you are a feminine person and you're getting scared off by reviews saying it's overly masculine, please try it on your skin first because I was looking for slightly-masculine unisex and I definitely did not get that here, it smells like a sensuous woman drinking fruity sangria.

zavi

A common complaint I’ve noticed from negative reviews here is that people somehow can’t pick up the fig note or that they think this is too masculine.

To my nose the fig note if very prominent here. I’d go as far as to say it’s almost a photorealistic fig. I also think this clearly leans female despite the lack of sweetness. I can’t imagine many men who would enjoy this scent profile on themselves.

Personally this is a hard pass for me. Just not my style.

Epicbeats

If anybody has and is willing to sell a bottle (used) of Gris Charnel in the EU please send me DM here in Fragrantica. Thank you in Advance 😊

CustardBunny

Cardamom, fig and SANDALWOOD
I am not a sandalwood fan when its overpowering, this gives me nordic forest in the winter. Its nice. Not overbearing, but not my cup of tea. My father said it smells like christmas

Badbili

Blind bought this one. Smells extremely smooth. I’m not the best at picking up specific notes but on my skin, I get a warm, slightly woody, slightly sweet accord with a hint of fig. My husband says it smells like a slightly woody vanilla on my skin. This lasts for a long time and the sillage is more intimate on my skin. I’d say this scent feels very warm to me, could potentially be an everyday scent for fall, winter, and spring if you live in a cold climate. Feels classy and I could see this working in a professional setting. This feels safe and not super daring. Just really smooth and lovely.

CrisMS

Without a doubt the classiest, coolest, cleanest in a sophisticated way perfume I ever tried. Gives cosy comforting vibes with it's creaminess, but at the same it's serious and professional. I have to force myself to wear other perfumes, cause this is so addictive and unique.

Symphonized

The hype? Definitely justified in my opinion. I was looking for a cozy scent that would match the gloomy winter weather that I'll be experiencing for the next few months. This one is it. This is the scent that is making me think perhaps I like sandalwood. It's incredibly creamy, has the texture of a cashmere sweater when I smell it. At first, the fig did almost turn my stomach a tad, but it works best if you experience it in colder weather. I sampled a tinyyyy decant and even with that, it got me compliments from a family member the day I tested it. This also is pretty long lasting on your skin. I sprayed it in the morning and smelled this into the late evening of the same day. Projection is not as powerful as the longevity, if this is a concern.

It's worth a sample and a trial, as it is incredibly wonderful and cozy. I have a larger decant coming before I one day get a full bottle.

KeithP

For context I am fairly new to the hobby, with around 9 months in, but have worn fragrances as a "casual" for 25+ years. In the last 9 months I have blown a decent amount of money on building my collection up to around 20 fragrances so far, but by no means is my nose even remotely trained/attuned yet.

I'd like to say at first, I do like this fragrance, and I do not regret the purchase

From initial spray I get a cocnutty vibe, (same thing I got from Jazz Club to be honest) but it is an enjoyable opening. I really like the mid to dry down, the iris in here reminds me of the prada style (although it is no where near as loud in the BDK), and I am fond of the prada style iris.
I do own few expensive fragrances (the obvious ones that someone new to the hobby might get hyped in to buying- Side effect, Black Phantom, Angels Share) as well as some middle of the road (DHP, Eau Sauvage parfum, a few Guerlain's) and in my mind the quality is more in line with them than the more expensive ones I own, so I'm not sure the UK price tag of £150 is "worth it" for a lot of people.

Becktacular

I bought a decant of this as I’m just starting to get into perfumes. Heard this was nice so thought I’d give it a try, and I’ve never delved into these more expensive scents before!
I absolutely love it. It smells very different when first sprayed - it has a minty sort of wet smell, but almost straight away it settled into my skin and it has this beautiful warmth and gentle sweetness without being obvious. I can definitely smell the black tea which is just really comforting. It felt like a heady scent but without feeling like it was capable of giving me a headache. It lasted well over 12 hours on my skin and for the first 4 hours it had really good sillage but without feeling like I was going to overpower a room with it.
If I had the money I’d buy a full bottle immediately- I’ll need to save up!

Ladylannae

So I'm new to the world of niche fragrance. Spent the majority of my life with one trusty fragrance until this unexpected journey which has now tumbled into a fixation which I can only see snowballing into an obsession.

All I can really say is holy, my olfactory system is having an absolute party with this fragrance. I read the reviews and some reviewers think this fragrance isn't special because it's basic or common and muhrfkrs I have never in my life smelt something so warm and complex and is it just me or is someone making tea in the other room and it's wafting over here?

I would have fought myself to not follow someone wearing this perfume had I encountered it. I work in a high volume environment and I'm exposed/assaulted by cologne + perfume every day and I've never smelt it on anyone so slap my ass and call me basic, I love this. I'm not even sure if this would smell better on me or on my boyfriend but I'll buy a bottle so I can relive this moment.

I also found this to lean masculine the first time I sprayed it. Now I'm picking up confident feminine boss bitch vibes. 20/10

GrenadeGirl

My initial reaction on spraying this was 'Woah... Toothpaste!!!' Lol

Give it a sec though, and it is just the fig cardamom combo, which levels out fast. The dry down is truthfully simply incredible, and I really do utterly LOVE it!!!

The downside for me though is the over hype and popularity. My secondary thought process really was 'oh man, I've smelled this EVERYWHERE...!!', and in short, to me this sits in the same camp as BR540: They are both genuinely stunning high end scents, but they ain't really special if everyone else is wearing them.

Enrium

Gris Charnel seems to be the most popular and talked-about perfume from BDK. I expected a fig-dominant scent along the lines of Philosykos et al., and I wasn't particularly excited for this reason. While I used to love a fig note, I now have fig fatigue of sorts - it isn't a groundbreaking or unusual inclusion in perfume anymore, and fig-dominant scents tend to smell the same - it isn't multifaceted and versatile in the manner of classic notes like rose, for example. Having said that, GC is a really good take on a fig scent. While there is plenty of fig here, it is more a contributory note than the focal poin - it doesn't overpower the other notes, but marries well with them to form a smooth, woody-musky scent. It reflects its name somewhat - it is dry, dusty and dark in the manner of a tomb. It is also a versatile, easy-to-wear unisex scent for everyday use.

GC opens with fig, soft, dry and musky in the manner of Matière Première Parisian Musc. It isn't lactonic like DS & Durga Debaser, nor fleshy like Diptyque Philosykos, nor green and tree-like in the manner of Profumum Roma Ichnusa. Instead, it is dusty, dry and somewhat cosy, marrying nicely with the woody muskiness that permeates this scent from the beginning. I get a nice herbal freshness from the tea note fairly early on. Vetiver complements it nicely, its grassy woodiness rounding it out nicely.

It becomes slightly powdery as it develops, thanks to the iris note, and the fig fades somewhat, but still lingers. The muskiness remains throughout, becoming more prominent as it progresses, complemented by the smooth woody undertone. The fig marries seamlessly with the tonka bean in particular, making for a rounded, smooth drydown. It fades to a dry, musky skin scent. Sillage and longevity are moderate. It is a transeasonal day scent.

A well-blended, cosy, musky scent that features fig, GC is a cold-weather take on this usually summery note. It doesn't change too much as it progresses, and is very likeable and safe despite its name. It strikes just the right balance of being approachable and aloof. Cool, understated, undone elegance in a bottle. 4/5.

pocketcramps

My immediate reaction was, "This smells like a haunted house, but in a good way."

MelissaKS

I love the blast of cardamom in the opening. It dries down into a woody, slightly aromatic scent on my skin. I definitely get the vetiver. I don’t pick up any Iris, but it’s slightly powdery. I get a hint of tea and Tonka.

I’d say this is a unisex fragrance that leans ever so slightly masculine.

I put off getting a decant because of the hype, but I definitely understand why people enjoy this fragrance. I don’t have anything else quite like it. The creaminess in a dry down does remind me a little of Commodity Milk (expressive).

Hifza

It is very formal and classy, it adds grace to your personality. I love the excellent blend of fig, iris and cardamom. I am fond of the richness present in the scent making the fragrance luxurious!

RachelPhd

This perfume is absolutely stunning. At first spray, I get figs and a little bit of tonka bean and the dry down is gorgeous. It is a soft, powdery fig and fig leaf, tea, and woody smell. It is complex and sophisticated. I would wear this day or night and I think, at least on my skin, is office appropriate. My husband can always tell when I'm wearing it and loves it as well. It is perfectly unisex. Worth the money in my opinion.

lantpls

very pretty! dries down to a sort of expensive hotel lobby smell (in a really nice way). don't think i would spend €170 on it, but it's nice!

Snowleox

Another social media hyped train ..
its an ok upscaled designer fragrance,
Tamed sweat tonka with a slight fruity/fresh fig/tea
Clothed in a faint aromatic iris/cardamon
More feminine than unisex and i see why females likes it!

gabbyg27

If I could describe this fragrance in three words it would be sophisticated, sexy, and professional. It's a fragrance that I could see someone going to an important work meeting while dressing really formally. Anyone would feel empowered wearing this. The perfume is perfectly unisex, but it would smell so sexy on a man.

tdsmelbourne

I really wanted to love Gris Charnel but found it falling slightly short of my expectations. While it is an extremely well blended fragrance, I find it much to cloying to wear, especially in the heat.

Aussiecollector

This is one of my perfect 10 fragrances. From the moment I spray the smell puts me on a fragrance high, so creamy and the cardamom/fig combo with the tea mixed in has this endless addictive quality. This will never be out of my collection. It doesn’t boom off the skin like other beasts but people will know it’s there up closer. I have nothing bad to say about this gem. A must buy. Can be worn all year.

Ttzy

Not a fan of the top notes of fig and black tea, however the dry down of tonka and sandalwood is so intoxicating (it’s what enticed me to buy in the first place) but only get the bottom notes when I spray on duvet set or clothes, never on my skin. A unisex smell but I believe it leans more to feminine. I’ve heard the extrait is great so if you’re considering buying this, maybe sample the extrait first

Bray08

Ugh such a Chic Unisex Fragrance. I love this. It radiates off my skin beautifully and the sillage is quite amazing. I sampled it for about two weeks and had to get a full bottle of it because it's very addicting. Also, it last about 12 hours on my skin. I spray it in my hair and it stays for about a day. Which is a lovely surprise when let my hair down and I think it's worn off.

12/04/23 I've been wearing nothing but this for the past two weeks. I honestly don't know how I went this long without smelling this gem. My boyfriend loves this on me and I get sooo many compliments from other guys on this too. I am honestly in love with Gris Charnel.

03/22/24 This is now my signature scent. It replaced BR540 extrait. I go to my closet sometimes just to smell this from the bottle to lift my mood. It's gorgeous.

vtothek

This scent is so chic! Honestly to me it seems more feminine even though it is marketed as unisex, but I can see a certain kind of guy getting away with it.

I don’t get any fig or iris on my skin, but the cardamom, vetiver and sandalwood are really prominent. It’s woody without being too masculine, which is a problem I find with most fragrances that have wood notes. The tea notes are fleeting but very comforting, and this is the perfect scent for a cold overcast day or an afternoon at a museum or art gallery.

Overall I’d say this is a “cool” scent, for someone who is fashion conscious and well put together. I don’t think it’s really signature worthy since it’s not something you could wear in the heat, but it’s lovely nonetheless.

betheljaviles

This is the perfect cool weather and autumnal scent! It smells like sweet fig and tea with accompanying woody and spicy notes that remind me of walking through a woodland forest. Gives off a mysterious aura and is perfectly unisex, imo. It did take me a couple of wears to fully appreciate this scent, to be honest. I consider it full bottle worthy now!

picklejuicebaby

Chai latte meets spice cabinet meets masculine BO. Santal 33's more sophisticated sister all dressed up for Halloween season.

Anientreus

I really enjoy the drydown of gris charnel. Max 2sprays on neck and I’m good to go for the whole day. I’ve never smelt anything as scrumptious as this one.I can smell the fig, milk and there’s a bit of coconut in there too. The mooooost delicious chai latte. This to me is like a warm hug. This will be in my top 5 for life.

woodlandwalk

A musky, vanillic tea for me, mostly. I loved the opening but there's a sweet synthetic muskiness that turns me off sadly. The dusty fig reminds me a little of Premier Figuier which is nice, but I still prefer Philosykos, or even Ninfeo Mio for a fig hit. The tea note is very good.

Like but not love

wushwush

Smells pretty much like less sweeter smelling By the Fireplace or a cheaper alternative, Glade's elegant vanilla and oud wood :(
not a safe blind buy.

lenileni

perfect lightly spicy, warm and cozy scent that is equally classy and elegant.
a perfume that makes me think of autumn, a black turtleneck and fuzzy scarf, sitting by the fire with a book, a walk around a forested lake, without actually trying to smell like either of those things. equally perfect for a more formal setting too.

CzarSalad

Having been burned too many times by hyped fragrances before I was a tad let down when I first tried it. For some reason, it reminded me of television static. Maybe because it was a bright September day, a high of 25 degrees, didn't fit the overall "vibe". But holding onto my sample, waited for the ideal day, overcast, slight threat of rain and in the single digits, bundled up in a new coat and walking through the woods really accentuated this fragrance. Its sweet breezy scent wafts, it really does smell like autumn, that sweet smell of melancholic decay. The dry down turns into something very reminiscent of petichor.

disintigratedwoman

I truly cannot get enough of this scent. To me, it embodies cool, rainy fall mornings; crunchy, earthy dead leaves; soft cashmere sweaters, and creased white linens from a night with your lover. It straddles the line perfectly between fresh and airy, spicy and earthy; feminine and masculine; and composed/dirty. Safe to say, Gris Charnel is a perfect dichotomy in a bottle.. all the while being sophisticated, smooth and effortless. It truly is a gem.

To my nose, I mainly get fig, sandalwood and cardamom; I don’t get much tonka or iris. As time passes, the fig settles and the cardamom becomes more forward. The fig is by far my favourite note in this, and what sets it apart from other fragrances I’ve come across.

GC’s cool, effortless vibe allows it to be worn in many places (office, coffee date, black tie event, or even as a signature). Its only downfall is its longevity; this doesn’t last more than a few hours on my skin before becoming a skin scent. On clothes, it does last much longer though.

Glad to have added this masterpiece to my collection, and excited to wear this through the fall and winter 🖤

PerfumeUser2023

This for me is more feminine leaning.
It can be worn by men, just not in a manly environment.
It's extremely sweet, tamed though, it doesn't blast multiple types or hints of smells, it is just upfront (almost like a candy sweetness smell) and the powdery makes it bleed into a (small) room.

Projection is average.
It doesn't last long on my skin though, nor my clothes- and I wonder why, as it is not highly alcoholic in content.

Quality perfume, that unfortunately is overpriced if bought retail (bought mine SH, heavily discounted) .

I would recommend it, but not at the price. I think it's a teenage to 20' ish young lady perfume. I still don't see it as a man one.

astralmonad870

Two exact dupes for this are Francique 63.55 by Maison Alhambra ($50 for 100 ml), and Liam by Lattafa ($20 for 100 ml).

TuesdayTaylor

This is a very pleasant, mild, masculine-leaning scent. Close-to-the-skin, soft, warm, and delicately spiced. A safe blind buy or gift for a man. Not quite as safe of a blind buy or gift for a woman because of the traditionally-used male notes. It’s nice, familiar and inoffensive. It’s a more powdery and upscale CK One. 💗

petra_ita

Love at first sniff. A warm, cosy, comforting, spicy scent for rainy autumn days. Classy and perfectly unisex.

Debsed

Unique, lovely, changeable. Not blind buy safe, must try on skin as the tea note can deliver quite a sharp tannin that’s slightly bitter.
Cardamon is strong, fig is woody rather than green, smooth and complex and whilst others disagree I find it very strong. I get a powerful bourbon note in the middle and not so much vetiver.
Elegant, contemporary, self assured and relaxed. Cool weather for sure. If it’s not sweet enough it could be softened with a layered vanilla as is found in the Extrait. 9/10

Amour, Michele

Fig and cardamom are dominant throughout with warmth coming from all the other notes mentioned. There is something slightly sharp when you sniff right up close, but the sillage is really slinky and beautiful. Comes across leaning feminine to me; image I get is a very put together woman in a cream silk blouse (not shine silk though) and cream pants. Quite dressy but not going out or clubbing. I think of something more proper like the office or tea/coffee drinking. This would be a great every day scent that’s not boring.

billiedenise

I really wanted this to be my go-to Fall fragrance but it wasn't for me. I like it but I wish it was a little sweeter and sometimes the scent went a bit vintage to me.

GoldIris

I don't understand the hype around this fragrance. All I get is nice creamy sandalwood with a fruity opening and some iris and tonka in the background during the dry down. It doesn't smell bad t all, but basic at best. I red comments stating that this is the best fragrance they have ever smelled and I know scent is subjective, but this fragrance is definitely very overhyped for what it is.

AndMon

This is a iris based fragrance with green touches that feels like elegance in a bottle. This is the sort of fragrance that I envision a successful man wearing, the kind of man who wears expensive classy watches and who doesn't want to have a fragrance that is too loud.

aromafantastic

A very well balanced woody fragrance with just a hint of freshness and sweetness.
Smells clean and bright.
A bit too masculine for me.

weirdhoney21

This exceeded all my (very high) expectations!!! Fig and sandalwood can be hit or miss for me but Gris Charnel does both notes so beautifully here. This smells like a warm chai latte with fig and creamy sandalwood. I want to wrap myself in this it's so cozy and intoxicating.

Many sandalwood-heavy scents I've tried lean pickley and sharp on my skin but this is soft and creamy in the dry down. It's unisex leaning a little masculine but I can totally see myself wearing this all fall and winter! Need a travel spray immediately.

Karina8

I love it! This smells like money. A woody classy fragrance the fig really helps to give it a different touch.

ryehuh

party scent

mx88

The fig here is superb! Really reminds me of Philosykos, but without the coconut. I'd say it's a darker, more edgy version. A versatile scent, appropriate for all occasions and seasons. Unisex, yes, but certainly more feminine-leaning, as there's a pronounced sweetness. I don't like it enough to immediately own a bottle, but I'm going to enjoy the rest of my sample.

glowcel

I was so excited to test this. I saw fig, cardamom, black tea, vetiver, sandalwood, all notes that I adore! But the iris ruined the entire thing for me. Iris is extremely nauseating to me for some reason, it's the only note I've come across that makes me feel sick. Like it is an instant physiological response. If there is too much iris in a frag it will be the only thing I can smell, and this is the case with Gris Charnel. I cannot get past the iris sadly. For the iris lover or the iris neutral, you still may like this. My issue with this frag is 100% subjective and not a reflection of the quality of the frag. I still recommend you try this if you're curious.

Update: It has grown on me, but I still wouldn’t reach for it often. My boyfriend loves it though so I gave the rest of the decant to him!

Marigeno

This is the most gorgeous, delicious fragrance I've ever smelled, is my favorite fragrance in my whole collection. It's a delicious milky sandalwood, it's beautiful.

kitkat_69

Just got a sample of this one, oh my goodness. It smells creamy and woody on skin, with a light bit of spice. This smells a lot like Yesterday Haze by Imaginary Authors, if you have it, you don't need this. I really like it so far and I'm excited to wear it this fall and winter. Definitely going to consider buying a full size if I make it through my sample.

Aleccsei

For those who love vegan gluten-free banana bread.

I'm quite late to the party... I blind bought GRIS CHARNEL last summer because everybody said it was amazing. I was very dissapointed - it didn't agree with me (in the hot weather).
Not it's fall and I gave it another shot... and it smells amazing. It's warm and sweet, but not vanilly (is that even a word?).
The best way to describe when I sprayed it onto me... I felt like i would smell a gluten-free and vegan version of vanilla - which was weird, but pleasent.

It seems the perfect parfum, for those who want a warm and sweet fragrance, but are not into vanilla or benzoin.

Irvdaman15$

This is a love for me and have only appreciated it more with each use and wear.
Its a creamy vanilla, fig that almost makes a combination of banana in the initial spray down.
It drys down to a very powdery sweet light scent that is perfectly unisex as its neither too feminine or masculine.
10/10.
Atomizer sprays nice and the scent lasts and projects for a very long time.
Cold weather better but works in the summer too

cardamomspice

Very warm with a deep caramel sweetness, but not too much. Sophisticated, feels more appropriate to evening. The black tea and spices are just a hint, I wish these were more pronounced. Like putting on something soft and warm.

Maleficent's cotton candy

I thought I loved this but my son asked me why I smell like soapy tires. Now that’s all I smell.

PrettyHaneul101

Only a year had passed since i got my hands on the bottle and it's heady spiciness from the top notes already disappeared. Now the tea and sandalwood just kinda sits on my skin doesn't project at all.Kinda disappointed.maybe the heat wave caused it to be this way 😞

ErhanDurhan

I quite like this perfume. The opening is bit sharp but it settles down beautifully. Very rich, creamy and luxurious scent.
Kinda reminds me of Ouverture by Xerjoff without the greenness from the fig leaf and this one is definitely spicier.
Great autumn and winter scent, easy to wear and not offensive at all.
I personally won't reach for this one but certainly can appreciate it.
Worth trying but not a safe blind buy.

creepy pasta

Impeccable design and texture, autumn in a bottle.

CroquanteGourmande

In my opinion just the beginning leans masculine. Like a fresh man just out of the shower. The rest is 100% unisex and oh so sexy, enveloping spicy iris fig sweet goodness! My favorite BDK before Pas ce soir!

JoyousOne

This smells like a ton of logs in the forest that were soaked in turpentine and gave you splinters.

Thonyorz

Sandalwood reminds me to valentino uomo noir absolu men

Londonelle7

Just got a sample of this. It’s quite powdery on me and I get a little more masculine vibes. Reminds me of JHAGs Lipstick Fever slightly but not sure if anyone else gets that. It’s nice but I won’t be getting a full bottle

looking4loam

it's 2005. you're waiting for your mom to pick you up from the mall, which is on its last legs. you're sitting on a slightly sticky bench in front of the wishing fountain, and the whole atrium smells a little like pennies. to your left is a claire's and to your right is a hot topic. from the left: a wave of pink rhinestones, cupcake flavored lip gloss, and unsanitary body piercing equipment. from the right: a wall of radioactive neon nail polish, studded pleather belts, hairspray. this intersection of youth, the airspace shared by these opposing forces, that's gris charnel.

poirot303

Addictive. Is it fig? Black tea? Sandalwood? The combination of notes makes it impossible for me to pick up on any one but the blend is divine. My husband picks up on the sweeter notes and mentioned this as ‘jammy’, which might be the fig. Such a sophisticated fragrance with excellent silage and projection.

alanav09

fascinating...

on me, this smells like TF Black Orchid went on a beach vacation. the fig is sweet and nutty - probably what gives off that coconutty scent. sandalwood is quite...woody, but not like Santal 33. very little pickle juice here. the sweetness goes away fairly quickly and leaves behind more of that black orchid vibe on me. dont get much creaminess at all, as some have pointed out. not getting a chai tea latte, either - at least, not the peet's/starbucks version.

smells amazing wafting around in the air - the air around me smells better than my wrist. it actually smells quite different, its fascinating.

SwampSaddle

I'm sampling this now and it's different from what I imagined it to be by looking at the accords and note breakdown. It's a linear fragrance to my nose and I don't see very much transition in it at all. I expected the cardamom and fig to be more prominent, but all I get is tea, iris and sandalwood - albeit very well-blended. A mysterious, very unisex fragrance overall.

thewaterlog

I have a penchant for figs - they're my favorite fruit, the leaves warmed by summer sunshine is one of my favorite scents, and heck, even my dog is named Fig. Clearly I am biased, but this is as close to a perfect fragrance as can be for me. It reads as both casual and refined - perfectly at home in a t-shirt and jeans as a suit. I'm wearing this on a workday, and I wore it on my wedding day.

I also adore sandalwood scents, and the flow of slightly coconutty-leaning green fig foliage in the opening to soft, almost creamy sandalwood in the dry down is a wonderful, fluid connection throughout the wear. The iris brings levity to the vetiver. It's subtly fruity without being sweet, also lightly woody and grounded by the sandalwood, rounded out by tonka.

Just lovely.

Hey If anybody has and is willing to sell a bottle (new/used) of this amazing scent in the EU please do let me know!

Maya lilac

Curious to know what is all the hype about Gris Charnel, I have ordered amongst others decants a decant of this.

I like it, don’t get me wrong, but I am not crazy about it like everyone else seems to be. It’s ok, but not for me.

It is really a beautiful, smooth and creamy sandalwood with green fig, comforting black tea, buttery iris and mild spicy cardamom. It’s so well blended and seems to perform slightly better than my favourite BDK, Pas ce Soir, but it’s not my cup of tea.

I can appreciate objectively the artistry even though I have different taste in perfume.

Iris, fig and vetiver are sometimes difficult notes for me, I rarely like them in scents, especially when combined all three of them together. And here, these notes seem very cold, green and earthy. I’m more a warm spicy, vanillic, ambery, resinous, fruity, floral type of person.

I find Gris Charnel unisex, maybe slightly masculine. Perfect for fall and spring season some say…

BDK has better scents than this!

figgypudding

A classic and basic fall fig scent. I was hoping it would blow my socks off, but I find the notes muddled on my skin. It just ends up like a slightly woody fig scent, good for fall, but not stellar.

MichelleAA

It reminds me of Chai tea. It's not milky, but it is creamy. When I first apply it, it smells like aftershave. But settled on my skin, it's Chai tea. Perfect for fall and winter. It leans a little masculine, but very wearable for anyone looking for something warm and not sweet. Projection is moderate to intimate. It lasts about 6 hours on moisturized skin.

Ginger_cookie

Luckily I got a sample first, this is definitely not a safe blind buy, I was expecting something with more prominent fig note and more feminine but this is straight masculine leaning wood, heavy spice fragrance.
Not unique at all, I smelled male perfumes like this, don't deserve the hype.

Heathermarie8617

Oh I'am SO bummed with this one. I almost blind bought this fragrance due to the hype, but got a sample first (thankfully). This leans more masculine to my nose and is extremely dry/soapy smelling, almost comes across like an aftershave. I would like this on a man...but for me, it's a no.

Acarin

Extremely cozy and perfect for autumn.
I interchange it with its perfect dupe by FA World Francique 63.55. I love that tea, cardamom + sandalwood for cooler weather.

zefragrancec

im dumbstruck this. Is. AMAZING.

Farrque

Beautiful blend of iris, fruity figs, sandalwood, cardamom and some sort of synthetic ambergris.
Balanced and quite close to skin but that adds to the elegant aesthetic.
This one just hits the mark, highly recommended!

allie-32098

A creamy rather than green fig, due to the milky sandalwood. Cardamom is not prominent for me, which is a shame because I love cardamom. Tea and iris are kind of subtle as well. Fairly sweet from top to bottom countered by some vetiver. No hard edges. Pleasant enough, but it doesn't move me.

Adriall Rose

I was really pleased with the deluxe sample I got of this, so much in fact that I didn’t want to scrub it off to test my next scent.

It settled pretty quickly into its base notes on my skin which wasn’t a terrible thing. I get the tonka bean and sandalwood and cardamom which all envelope you in this spicy cloud. I don’t get the chai tea reference but I think this is a wonderful fall scent that’s not necessarily a gourmand.

Wear time was nice, it remained potent for 3-5 hours before settling into a close skin scent on me.
I also thought it resembled the DNA of Jo Malone dark Amber and ginger lily.

Golabd

It is very similar to qaaed from lattafa and majd al sultan, though they have different notes listed. But very similar vibe

catonmars

It didn't stand out to me the first time I smelled it, and I wasn't a fan of the cardamom, but after wearing it for just an hour, I started to love it. This is my first unisex perfume, but the fig makes it more feminine leaning, in my opinion. I also can't smell any cardamom anymore. It's the perfect fragrance for a fall day.

Edit: This perfume gives me so much confidence, and I get compliments every time I wear it out!!!

Tupac1971!

I've been looking for my next cozy, comforting scent to usher in the cooler weather. Upon first spray, Gris Charnel envelops you in a soft, slightly powdery cloud of sandalwood, tonka bean, and vanilla. There is a deliciously cozy quality to this opening, like slipping on your favorite chunky sweater. As it dries down, subtle notes of amber, vetiver, and patchouli emerge, adding an earthier depth and richness.

The star of this scent truly is the note of sandalwood, which lends a beautifully smooth, creamy texture. Paired with the sweeter vanilla and tonka bean, it creates an intoxicating warmth. There's also an ever-so-slight smokiness from the vetiver and patchouli, conjuring images of a cozy fireplace.

Gris Charnel lives up to its name, evoking various shades of grey - from the soft cashmere grey of the opening to the deeper charcoal grey of the dry down. It perfectly captures that chic, Parisian vibe that BDK is known for. This would be the perfect scent to wear on a stroll along the Seine on a crisp fall day.

The sillage is intimate yet still noticeable, and the longevity is impressive at around 8 hours on my skin. Gris Charnel is quickly becoming my new go-to comfort scent as we transition into fall. It's understated yet distinctive, evoking a feeling of familiarity like your favorite cozy sweater. If you're looking for a new unisex option for the cooler months, I highly recommend giving Gris Charnel a try.
