Absolutely zero resemblance to Bal D'afrique. Is my head going? Please stop this. This smells like a new store with new clothes &/or a pair of suede shoes. Its ok, smells veryy cheap. Used it up at toilet spray

Indignatious83

Agree with the comment below- a slightly sweeter and rounder version of CK One. Quite unisex. Haven't found much use for it yet but I expect to, come summer.

Knappie

This smells, to me, like an updated CK One.
Light, clean, citrus-lavender-musk combining to make an altogether pleasing fragrance.
Has longevity issues but for a ~$20 freshie I can't fault it too much. Reapply as often as needed.

benlippi

Love this. Very zen. Excellent price. Namaste 🙏

tanss

To my nose, this is similar enough to Bal D'afrique to suggest as a dupe. It's just a bit gentler.

Other than that, this is a citrus musky fragrance at a price that can't be beat. Found mine (2.5 fl. Oz.) by chance browsing at a discount store for only $20.

Not very long lasting on skin, but more than worth the price, and a very affordable dupe for the aforementioned.

MSKMAN

The tale of most Banana Republic Fragrances is that they smell good but don't last. 90 Pure white is no exception. It has a perfect warm weather scent, which suffers from poor performance. This fragrance has a subtle citrus accord, which is beautiful. If found at the right price, get two bottles and overspray if that is your thing. It's all good, but the performance is 3 hours at best.

Shen Otto

Imagine Bal D'afrique reimagined as a spritzer cocktail! This was an instant love. Unfortunately, the performance is ABYSMAL, I'm lucky if this lasts beyond an hour.

RelaxItsTax

This is like Kenneth Cole Reaction T-shirt in the Orange bottle. I blind bought this on sale at Burlington along with several others that were available in the Icon line.. I have both of these fragrances and not very fond of either. The reviewer likening this to the smell of raw celery is pretty accurate. Not a fan. I remember the Reaction T-shirt in the blueish bottle with the cotton tag on the front. I remember it smelling of clean laundry or fabric softener if you will. It smelled fantastic. Which is why I bought the orange bottle. But either my nose, memory, reformulation or a combination of all three have failed me in this regard. Linen N Vetiver, Tobacco and Tonka, Dark CHerry and Amber, and 78 vintage green are the better fragrances in this line. Pure white is very basic and leaves you wanting more. Pass.

bvarney_zip

Is there a Clean brand equivalent?

Sade800

This is lovely.
Very fresh and clean.
I personally don't think it smells like laundry. It's more complex than that.
Smells like a toned down, more refined, version of CK1 to me.
Definitely unisex however what I love the most is the masculine edge it has.
Its a very versatile fragrance which I will enjoy wearing.
Very successful blind buy

Alphabrahma

This is a very great fresh fragrance that suffers from poor projection and sillage. I also have Linen Vetiver, 17 Oud Mosaic, 78 Vintage Green and Grassland and they are all great fragrances but lack Umph. I would rate all, but 17 Oud Mosaic which I would rate 4/10 because the fragrance is not very good, 6/10 because of this issue. However, if you can handle 16 sprays these scents are totally fresh and non-offensive in any way, these fragrances may be for you. In that case I would rate them 8/10 (except 17 Oud Mosaic, 5/10)

I picked these up for ~ $35/ea for 75ml on The Perfume Spot. Other sites are charging $70+ and I would not purchase these for that price.

Bondno9girl

I layer this with bath and body works kaleidoscope lotion and body spray and it helps with longevity. Performance is poor but this helps so much. If you like those molecule type notes then you will probably like this. Pure white and kaleidoscope go together like peanut butter and jelly. Also I do get byredo bald afric vibes as well. Byredo is a heavier scent and pure white is light like air. Great for bedtime after a shower. I am loving this combo so much!

planetwally

I got this along with 78 and Tobacco and Tonka from the same line. I love how light and airy this fragrance is. It opens a bit strong, like all of the Icon fragrances, that opening quickly dissolves though and leaves you with a beautiful and well put together scent. This one is definitely weaker than the other two in terms of how it projects and how long it lasts, but like 78, it is awesome for layering and stands well on its own if you are willing to reapply once during the day. The middle notes to me are most reminiscent of clean laundry mixed with chamomile tea, i know that's a weird mix, but that's what I am mostly reminded of, it is a very pleasant and calming scent. Simple, but wonderful. I love the Icon line and I know I wont be able to resist getting more when I see more of them crop up where I live

luanneog

Very citrusy opening, but not as green as 78 Vintage Green which is more grassy. This one is fruitier. It's also a very bright and uplighting scent. I've sampled Bal D' Afrique by Byredo and to me they do not smell the same. They have similarities like distant cousins would. This one is missing that luxurious (almost powdery) quality to it. It smells a tad synthetic too. A great fragrance nevertheless. Very unisex. It actually reminds me of Fresh Linens by Clean once it dries down.

blake.keylor

smells like lemon water with a little bit of musk. about 3-4 of longevity and projection, definitely smells fresh and clean. For $20, it's an easy blind buy, office safe, out of the shower or running errands scent. It's great if you wanna smell good, but not like any "cologne" or "perfume"

canisvesperus

Allow me to preface: I’m not a big fan of clean fragrances. This was a gift from my father, who buys according to his own tastes. Take what I say with a grain of salt because I likely would never purchase this product for myself. Banana Republic’s 90 is, as I mentioned, a clean and fresh smelling fragrance. Bright soapy musk and zingy citrus dominate, somewhere along the lines of tart grapefruit, bergamot, or even lime. However, is no sweetness present. It has a very professional and orderly air to it. In fact, I often wore 90 in school to get myself “in the mood” during testing periods, funnily enough. Therefore, I associate it with test-taking at 6 AM (so, who knows, maybe I would dislike it less if this weren’t the case). I can always have some amount of appreciation for unisex fragrances, so points for that. Regardless, I like to wear fragrances to make myself feel comfortable and to bring some simple pleasures into my daily life. 90 does not do that for me. I feel stiff, sterile, and even a little on-edge wearing this fragrance. Confident, yes, a little more than nothing at all, but I feel like I’m playing a role rather than bringing natural something out of me, almost. It’s a little headache inducing too if I’m being honest. I will say the green tea note does seem to bring down the intensity a bit. The lavender and jasmine are subtle yet softening which also helps make the fragrance a little more bearable to me. I’m a velvety sweet gourmand lover, so feel free to ignore me if fresh laundry musks are your thing! More power to you. Late spring/summer daytime fragrance, perfect for the workplace and perhaps sports as well.

Lenmwyarduon

I'll start off by saying I'm a big fan of BR fragrances but wow this one was a disappointment. By far the weakest fragrance in my collection - it smells of nothing. Dries down to a carbon copy of Febreeze. It reminds me of when you've had a cup of green tea and smell the cup after drinking it. For a much better fragrance with a similar feel - go for Ferragamo Casual Life. I paid £5 for this and I'm still disappointed!

R.diggity

For $20 any Banana Republic EDP is an easy buy. They tend to smell simple and are great for layering.

On me, this opened with a sugary cinnamon tea smell. Not spicy or sharp at all. Very soothing. As it settled, the greens slightly came through, but are softened nicely.

The musk is slightly on the female white musk side, but definitely unisex.

5 sprays gets me about 4 hrs projecting very close.

Doubt I’ll wear this indoors.

Phil Sinex

This scent reminds me of the Bleu Noir line from Narciso Rodriguez - it almost feels like an eau fraiche type flanker.

guyan

Agreed with everything @CristoCologne said but I would add that it's still a unique scent. Easy reach but you would stand out from the rest of the typical citrus aquatics...

CristoCologne

Tea, Citrus and Musk. Smells kind of like a herb tea while it's brewing. Inoffensive and light, but nothing you really would be wowed by.

Absolutely 100% generic 'scent' meaning it smells like many other scented products. Laundry detergent, febreeze, candles, room spray, etc.

MrsMRe

As others have noted, this one fits nicely into the unisex white tea, clean spa scent category. It's quite similar to Bvlgari and EA White Teas and, I would add, Omnia Crystalline, but more muted and subtle--lacking sharpness. It's not a bold statement, but it's surprisingly elegant for the price.

soulfragrances

It's a pleasant and light citrus-green tea scent. it’s like a higher quality ck one or something along the lines of that dna.

Imcheap17

Think Dior Homme cologne but with a sweeter lemon as opposed to a tart lemon , and add green tea. Summer and office banger. Niche quality for $20 at rack stores.

benlippi

Pleasantly surprised. It’s perfectly unisex, the scent is excellent, so clean, very comforting. Smells like someone you can trust. Id say the performance is average. It’s a steal for the price, highly recommend.

annasarahr121

Pure White is a nice scent, it's just that I may have too many in this particular genre to be wowed by it -- a champagne problem, for sure! Also, it may not be sweet enough for me, actually; I just picked up a bottle of Banana Republic Black Platinum, and was wowed by it, but it's definitely a sweeter scent. My son likes Pure White, though, and I'm trying to encourage him to wear more fragrance, so I'm giving it to him. :)

CoachSignature88

Gorgeous perfectly unisex niche quality fragrance. Smells of a light green tea and white musk with a slight soapiness. Lasts about 6-7 hours on my skin. Very nice bottle and sprayer. Bargain steal for 15.99 at my local Burlington. With the quality of the oils this would be worth 3 times that easily. Winner.

Tacosalad

If you find at a rack store it’s a no brainer! 25 dollars at Marshall’s and couldn’t be more happy with this scent. It smells so clean without being too floral. The grapefruit, musk and tea leaves are the dominant notes with a nice edge of floral and is powdery dry vetiver in the base. The best dumb reach office scent in my collection. Everyone will like this, no chance to offend anyone. This is a scent that isn't powerful but still gives a clean vibe, perhaps for someone that isn't in to grabbing a room full of attention. This could easily be worn by a women but doesn't make me feel I'm wearing womens perfume. I feel it’s more masculine than 78 Green but barely. This is my 3rd fragrance from the icon line and so far they all have been way above their weight classes. Best for spring and summer and surprisingly it last for about 6 hours on skin. At first I thought it would be weak but still going and is very relaxing smell reminiscent of a clean spa or hotel lobby. Maybe even a fresh laundry vibe. Give it a try if you get the chance to get from discounters.
8/10 with an extra point for low price!

jdfragrance1

Picked this up at TJ Maxx for $25. Totally worth it. Smells super clean and fresh. Sweet, soapy, laundry smell. Definitely leans unisex, but is definitely great if you can find it at discount!!

ChezdeParfums

This is perhaps my favorite white musk. The fruity floral opening of berries, violet, and green tea settles quickly but never all together leaves. This means that hours and hours later you can still smell the memory of the opening on a bed of beautiful musks. Inexpensive as well, which is appreciated.

v0n

I'm not sure what it is but there's something in the dry down that makes me gag. It's odd because the first spray smelled nice on my skin until it's settled. Maybe the musk?

Beanstocku

Pure White type of feel with clean Citrus & somewhat Floral type - sharp, intriguing, natural. Opposite of congested. Expensive smell 5 out of 5 yet $20 something @box stores

perfumaphile

I was underwhelmed with this fragrance, but then again I'm not a fan of green perfumes or lavender in my fragrances so that could explain it. I kind of liked the first 10 minutes where I picked up on the grassy/bergamot notes, but after that it started to smell like a generic teen fragrance. Granted I did smell this in the Fall, so maybe it just wasn't the right season to appreciate this type of fragrance, but I found it lacking and synthetic smelling. Also, I don't think it smells like clean laundry/cotton like some of the other reviewers mentioned, it's more of a sharp green fragrance with violet notes. The longevity was underwhelming, this could probably be called an eau de toilette or eau de cologne (a weaker perfume oil concentration than eau de parfum). I've often found that most green fragrances or citrus fragrances for that matter don't really last long. If you do like fragrances in this olfactory range, then I'd say it fits morning/day-time wear in Spring/Summer. It just wasn't for me.

AuthenticAF

Very clean and comfy, i like to wear this with a black suit. The contrast is interesting to me.

Imcheap17

This light, air, a bit powdery. Lemony. I love pure white for the office , no one will be offended by this, impossible to over spray. The quality for the price punches wayyyyy above it's weight class. This will last an 8 hr shift in an office setting. $25 winner. The whole icon line is amazing

Napasonoma

This starts off real pleasant kind of grabs you right away, I know some have complained about performance, so it must be skin chemistry or they are light on the trigger. For me this is kind of addicting smell. On my skin this last an easy 6 hours but ha a tight scent bubble, say arm length. I have found in the Icon line they say “unisex” but some lean way more masculine and others way more female, but…..this one probably is very Unisex, and it is pleasing to both genders.

Brlo258

The tea note in this one is really relaxing. Its a great non offensive all year round scent with the only draw back being its longevity.

TedPoulson

Thought it was OK the first few times I wore it. Then I wore it on a really hot day and it seemed to come alive. Great scent when you’re not wanting attention, and just want to smell amazing. Perfect for super hot summer days.

Wild Water

I've never sampled Bal d'Afrique, but there's a really obvious influence here that I'm surprised no one has mentioned yet. Something vaguely silver with a touch of mountain water... At least as I remember SMW. I was always a MI guy when it came to Bourdon era Creeds.

I get a bit more of a modern bent from it, but I just smell a really great quality clone of SMW (in an admitted sea of SMW clones). Green tea, bright and sweet citruses, and a black currant (or some sort of berry) note all laid over a bed of fresh laundry musk. It's well done and comforting and straight down the middle unisex.

I really love these little Banana Republic scents and this one's another winner. If you use SMW or have a favorite SMW clone it's probably not worth the pickup, but as someone who has neither I appreciate having such a quality option in my collection at such a nice price.

ValleyGirl86

When I smelled this scent on paper, it made me think of freshly washed clothes hung on a wash line to dry in the sun on a warm, breezy, summer afternoon. Something you would not really think you'd want to smell like, but it was so refreshing, and maybe nostalgic of childhood or something.

Once it was on my skin, I got the Green Tea notes, which remained super subtle and soft. Then, it almost smells like there's a touch of Vanilla, which is maybe a combo of the Musk and Amber, but it turns weird and I no longer like it.

I'm realizing that scents with Tea notes just do not do well on my skin. It always turns funky and takes away too much from any other notes I find enjoyment in.

Will be a good choice for people who like Tea scents.

L8smelly

Here's my take on this cologne thus far

The first time I sprayed it on my arm, I got the a white floral note along with the grapefruit. I was uncertain because it smelled a little too feminine for my taste. After about a weeks wear, I found this scent to be very unisex, anyone could pull this off.

This cologne to my nose opens up with a tea note and almost creamy feel to it. I get hints of the sweetness from the bergamot. I don't really get any grapefruit unless I smell it close to the skin. As it drys I feel like it get brighter, a lighter note pops out maybe the violet or lavender? But near the end the musk and vetiver reign, maybe it's just me but at this point it reminds me of Narciso Rodriguez for him bleu noir. I'm left with a good, clean feeling not a laundry but I can see where this comes from.

Overall I get about 4 hours or so on my skin, I picked this up at my local Marshalls for $30. So not bad deal, I really like it, it's not a top tier but pretty good for a blind buy.

nellyrlight

lovely, but again, very weak longevity.

dreamersdream

It smells like damp laundry which might need extra rinse to wash off the detergent residue.

whimsyandhoney

This is soooo nice. A wonderful clean unisex scent, but not too common. Initially it smells very similar to Bal D’Afrique.

Comparing side by side, Bal D’Afrique has more fruity floral on top and stronger vetiver in the base. The fruity top notes stay around longer, which helps keep the interesting feminine twist to the dry woody vetiver.

90 Pure White opens up with vetiver and fruit just like BDA. As it loses the fruity top notes, the vetiver also dissipates and gives way to a dominant (yet refreshing) tea & musk skin scent.

yogijoey

I get a lemon candy nuance which lasts throughout the life of the fragrance, also get whiffs of green tea, neroli and jasmine with Musk at the base. Good summer fragrance. Longevity is moderate.

Live Fragrance Reviews

That tea note is the shiznit. I don't know why it has to be green tea, why not "white" tea notes, which along with the ozonic and floral accords make this stuff heavenly. It is feminine but I would like this on a woman or myself

Aromalie

This is an interesting fragrance. Casual yet complex and completely unisex. It’s not the light fresh laundry scent I was expecting though. Yes it’s clean and it’s citrus but there’s a heavy, slightly cloying quality to it. Projection is strong. So for me it’s not an every day scent but one I enjoy in moderation. Someone described it as a 90’s scent and though I’m too young to speak from experience, I definitely get the same impression. I envision it on a cool young woman from a big city, out running errands on a spring/summer day, mid-90’s.

elegantshnozzie

I got glimmers of laundry-fresh hope in pure white but alas- the grapefruit made the powdery freshness sour and rotten! This has a striking similarity to Lucky Brand's Lucky You (which also had an awkward sour powderiness). I wish I could hold onto the good moments of this fragrance but the grapefruit ruined this.

DodgersLH714

Fresh clean sun dried linens. Not strong, I haven't gotten my hands on some Iso-E yet to push the strength. But I will mix it with Iso, it's too nice to not try to manipulate the scents performance.

TabledThoughts

Just received this edp and am pleasantly surprised to report that, although it was not what I expected(clean fresh laundry style frag), it is a dead ringer for
Bal d'Afrique!
Saved me the hefty Byredo price tag. Thanks Banana Republic!
Surprised there is no marigold in the note lineup.
Very low sillage but still..
Happy✨

Guccipordior

Nice, fruity, sweet, citrusy musk. Super fresh, pleasing, and refreshing. It does smell like laundry, but a lot better than that. It's a light scent, but at the price, it's fine to overspray. I might buy another bottle of this, because I feel like its a good fragrance to layer with the other BR Icon frags. The sweet clean musk just has this extremely pleasing smell. Not in a mass appealing way, but just that it makes me feel happy when I smell it. I feel like it would layer well with many fragrances, as it's simple and clean, but not boring. The musk is really really nice, I really like how this one smells. I was definitely surprised with this one too, going in blind to it. I had known Vintage Green and Neroli Woods were good (they are) but hadn't heard much about this. This is definitely a good buy, and an easy blind buy if you like clean musk/laundry/tea/citrus/etc. The tea note really brings it together, which is also why I think it works well with Vintage Green.

Another good one from the BR Icon line. Smells much higher quality than you would think. Worth it!

Jabouba

It’s similar to Bal D afrique but doesn’t smell exactly the same.

LadyLicorice

a beautiful replacement for my beloved discontinued Blvgari the blanc

nyteshade

I bought this in haste at the BR store. Initially I get a clean, white linen sort of quality with green notes. Then, something midway comes through that I just do not like. I believe it's the lavender and musk. It gives me a stabbing behind the eyes headache. Besides the headache, it does give off that clean, unisex early 90's vibe mixed in with dryer sheets.

natluvly

Just got this today and to me it reminds me of Jean Paul Gaultier Classique X.

LizzieDee

Hello everyone
I just wanted to add one observation to all the foregoing: this has a pronounced sweetness. Two of the previous reviews have used the word “sweet” but it isn’t listed in the notes above. To me, it is the sweetness along with the fruit that makes this a very contemporary fragrance. In future years, when the history of scent is being written, I think the hallmark of the current decade will be the huge growth in sweet notes such as caramel. I have to say, it’s a trend that is not at all to my taste. My guess would be that the candy floss (cotton candy), caramel or jammy fruit notes appeal to a younger demographic but perhaps other Fragranticans will present an alternative view.

MNadz

No go for me.

Citrus and tea note is a very odd opening. Generally, I do enjoy fragrances that open with a tea note. Not in this one. Dries down to a clean musk.

Longevity and projection are below average. Good for spring and summer. Easily unisex.

Even though this is extremely affordable, the performance of this one is horrible. There are soooo many other fragrances that will last longer and project better at this price point. I can not recommend this one.

musenkata

I would call this "Pure Water". Fresh and lemony, but so weak you can barely smell it.

Andy the Frenchy

Fresh floral musk and poor performance. The one that impressed me the least of that collection. For an interesting floral musk, I'd strongly suggest Serge Lutens La Religieuse instead.

Spring days 20-40

Talia67!

Bal D'Afrique cheaper version , I would say 85% similarity

mapache

A day doing laundry....lol.
Clean,fresh linens...out of the dryer...sweet sheets..and that is all !!!
Tested today, and I will pass on this one.

sara.sana

This smells like jean paul gaultier، x collection.. its really good

Jish80

Fantastic musk fragrance. Starts a little floral and dries down to an Amber musk. Well worth the price

Eau De Rous

Rather feminine cloying bright floral and citrus laundry detergent. It actually makes my stomach turn but it's not awful if that makes any sense. Not for me... or my washing machine.

Michelle12345678

Green tea and vetiver. It is refreshing.

UPDATE 06/17/18 And clean. But this cannot stand up to high heat, it just melts away in the summer. Might be better suited for autumn, winter, and spring.

Even in colder temps it is not very long-lasting.

lostscent

**My 3rd Review of the Banana Republic Icon Collection**

PURE WHITE

Longevity/Projection:
-This is the most FLEETING of the bunch
-Barely projects - I'm talking about a hand's length from your body at most
-This lasts like 3 or 4 hours at most on skin

Seasons:
-Strictly summer because it wouldn't last in any other type of weather

Scent:
-I vaguely remember 2 youtube reviewers describing this as a "clean laundry" or soapy type scent. I would agree but it simply doesn't do this well enough to supplant other fragrances that do this type of scent better
- Prada has many options if you want that expensive/luxury soap smell and ALL their options perform and last much longer than this; Prada's scents are also more complex compared to Pure White

Ultimately, I don't think it would be smart for you to buy a bottle of this when you can easily find alternatives that not only give more bang for the buck but also have more quality in all the facets of what Pure White is "trying" to pull off.

This is easily the worst (by a distance) of the Icon Collection.

Jish80

Smells like helmut Lang edp

Scent Detective

This is quite nice! It opens with a lot of citrus...very fresh, as well as the green tea note which is lighter than it is in say, Creed's Asian Green Tea fragrance. This is well made and enjoyable. I'm impressed by the quality of the blend and the overall composition. It smells very nice throughout the wear, and the longevity is impressive. I got a good 8 hours in terms of longevity and from 5 to 6 hours of sillage. Honestly, this starts out nice and improves as it dries down in my opinion. This is a great frag for the price...I recommend going into BR and checking it out as well as all of their Icon Collection.

Scentsability

I happened upon the Icon collection last month at a Banana Republic Outlet store. Despite having just been released, they were 50% off list price which equated to $12.50 American for the 15ml EDP and $24 for the 75ml.
I was surprised at the quality of the compositions. My expectations of a BR fragrance is a typical "mall scent". I don't say that with negative intentions, just that I expect them to smell good to the average fragrance consumer. Scents that will appeal to the masses. These scents are not that.

This is BR attempting niche type scents...and they did a good job.
I purchased all except the leather scent (it was a good scent but I did not believe I would find occasion to wear it. It is perhaps the most "niche" of the lot in many ways.)
90 Pure White is the one I have tested out the most as it is the peak of summer where I live and this is the most hot weather suitable fragrance of the collection.

The reviewer below me smells a similarity to Bal D'Afrique...I get that and agree somewhat. I also find it quite similar in many ways to L'Artisan's Coeur de Vetiver Sacre.
It is not a clone of either but shares accords of both.
90 Pure White is heavy on the green tea, jasmine and a clean vetiver. Great for warm weather. A bit sweet from the tea, a bit floral from the jasmine. The combined effect is actually very White. The name is appropriate. Fresh, clean...white.

It's very unisex as are the comparative scents.
It may lean towards the feminine but not to the extreme in my opinion. I will wear it with confidence that I will not smell like I am wearing a "women's perfume"

Performance on my skin is 6 hours. The first hour may radiate out to arms length then it comes back to a personal space type scent for the next 5 hours. after that its a skin scent.
I think it smells great. Niche type composition at discount prices...what's not to like.

I plan on reviewing the others in this collection as I test them out more but overall, with first impressions, I'm impressed. They all smell like top shelf, high quality fragrances. At full list price, they are worth it. If you find them discounted they are an absolute steal in my opinion.

MikeL11

Really nice fragrance. Smells very very similar to Bal D'Afrique but a fraction of the cost
