Gardénia Eau de Parfum by Chanel is a Floral fragrance for women. Gardénia Eau de Parfum was launched in 2016. Top note is Green Leaves; middle notes are Gardenia, Fruity Notes and Coconut; base note is Vanilla.

Gardenia Eau de Parfum, "an imaginary creation," is an intense and opulent floral fragrance of creamy gardenia. It is described as a feminine fragrance that carries the blinding light of summer. Mademoiselle Chanel liked white flowers, as her emblem was camellia. Since it has no scent, gardenia is chosen as the next best thing.

The fragrance is available as a 75 ml and a 200 ml Eau de Parfum.

Thank you to the people who recommended getting Moringa from Body Shop as a dupe. Saved me over £200 for this fleeting green tuberose scent that is not worth buying.

pollilyo

This might be my favorite liquid soap but not perfume. Total femininity and delicate but so boring with such an intimate trail

I love this, this is pure french class and the most modern fragrance by Chanel. The perfection scent for spring. I love gardenias in perfumes, it's like a toxic luminous and bitterness flower. Here it's green and evokes me pastels colors. I smell fresh gardenias with soft green apple. Others notes are really discrets, you talk about vanilla but it's very subtle, The only bad thing is that doesn't last long in my skin. I would love a more concentrate version. I'm very happy to have this pure jewel. Very classy Chanel perfume without aldehydic notes, that's it 💙

po3tik1

I just bought this.

It doesn't last long, and as a male, this should be paired or layered with something. For the ladies, this fragrance alone smells great. But myself, I layered it with Chanel Nº19. It can also go well with Sycomore, or any woody/green scent.

Arcticmanatee

Absolutely gorgeous Fragrance but no projection or lasting power. Will not buy.

Tshahb

More like a Guerlain than a Chanel, perhaps because of the vanilla.

It's a VERY polite, delicate little floral scent in the vein of Joyeuse Tubereuse.

I always love gardenia for its lushness and this is no exception.

A_Ferrera

Smells 95% like neroli and orchidee from l'occitane...

GirlOnFire

It’s just not like the EDT was. Seriously, the entire Les Exclusifs line was better as EDT. There is virtually no lasting power; the discontinued EDT did not have this issue.

The EDT had more bite, it had “something”. The EDP is purely a fruity white floral, heavier on the vanilla.

Scents4spirit

The more I wear this the more I fall in love with it. A simple creamy white floral with fruity sweetness balanced by the gentle green notes. The vanilla and coconut create a beautiful and very subtle creamy backdrop for the white flowers to shine, mainly tuberose to my nose which I absolutely love 🤍 it is long lasting on clothes, I can smell it on them even after an entire day. An absolutely perfect spring and summer scent but I can see myself wearing it all year long because it’s oh so beautiful.

cheleine

The closer you get to true gardenia the more tuberose you will get. Still, this is not a gardenia perfume to my nose. It’s a “white floral fantasy” type of scent.
Absolutely stunning, a heartbreaker really considering the price tag too. Still I’d pull the trigger just once for this beauty for a full bottle if it weren’t for the performance.
Especially in the heat, I feel this evaporates from my skin in minutes or sits very close to my skin. I’ve tried again in a Chanel store, same thing and it doesn’t really project well either. Still, this is BEAUTIFUL, classy, luxurious, pure, everything you want in an expensive perfume. Could work as a bridal scent too. Absolute love. I’ll try again in colder months and hope the performance is better on me.

starlovesshopping

I totally agree with Jmalone84. All I smell is tuberose instead of gardenia. I’m looking for a gardenia perfume but so far all the gardenia perfume I have tried smell like tuberose. Both my friend and I agree that there is no longevity or sillage for this particular perfume. We can’t smell anything after about ten minutes. Very disappointed. A total waste of money.

LSAUG

This is a pretty gardenia w/ a lot of fruits and a lot of coconut but for the price point it just isn't unique enough. It almost doesn't smell like a Chanel IMO. It smells really close to ET Gardenia but w/ coconut and fruits added.

Edit: 6/29/23 Wearing this now from my sample and I can see why people like this so much it is pretty. The more I wear it the more I smell shades of Tocca's Florence. Since this is much more expensive, I am happy w/ Florence and ET Gardenia. I get wanting to own Chanel's, I've just caught the Chanel Virus LOL but there are others I'd rather have. Especially for the Exclusive lines price point. For me Le Lion is a must have, nothing else comes close to that one. This is a pretty gardenia but there are others much like this one at a much better price point to buy.

Paintedtrillium

I agree with Whiteflowerprincess this is a beautiful perfume. Fresh floral and perfect for spring and summer. I bought the Exclisifs Discovery Set and so far this one is my favorite. I ordered a large bottle of it. Agree that it would be perfect to wear for a bride or as an invited guest to a wedding. I think It would also be for suitable for summer evening dinner/cocktail party dates with friends since the sillage isn't too overwhelming. I can see me wearing it to bed as aromatherapy. Love this one.

From the Chanel Website: “ Les Exclusifs Gardénia is a creation full of fantasy floral notes with a vanilla base that rises to meet a heart of sweet fruit and creamy gardenia petals accented with coconut. Our Gardénia Eau de Parfum has heightened notes to create a more pronounces interpretation of the previous fragrance, Gardenia Eau De Toilette.”

Notice the emphasis on fantasy floral and the accent on the e in the perfume title. This is a FANTASY GARDEN of white flowers. It was never intended or designed to be a gardenia soliflore. Today it lasted over 6 hours on my skin. Fortunately, I generally get good performance from all my Chanels and Guerlains.

DariaFrancesca74

Gardénia Eau de Parfum by Chanel is a joyful allegory of lashing green notes where gardenia stands solemn and victorious in its maximum expression. Gardenia immersed in green notes, with an unexpected exotic background, light notes of coconut that blend in great harmony with the reassuring vanilla without giving the blend a gourmand setting. Fresh, feminine fragrance that celebrates one of the most beautiful flowers in creation. In 1925, Mademoiselle conceived in collaboration with Ernest Beaux a fragrance that resembled her and which she called Gardénia.

Jmalone84

So the top note is actually heavy tuberose. First blast is sweet bubblegum tuberose combined with waxy white floral similar to Elizabeth Taylor Gardenia. This does smell more like a tuberose perfume to me. I don’t agree that it smells natural or like actual gardenia. The closest perfume to actual gardenia for me was Van cleef gardenia petale. This smells quite a lot like other tuberose perfumes I have sampled lately. It has a touch of soapiness that prevents it from being too sweet. It’s nice enough but there are plenty like it. As it dries down I get more of the waxy ‘gardenia’, but also a kind of salty coconut and it’s also a bit musky. Overall I think this is a bit hit and miss for me.

Dramaloladiva

Pure, green and luxurious are a few words that come to my mind when I spray this on…
This has a major soapy vibe (in a most wonderful way) so if you don’t like soapy notes in your perfume…stay away is my suggestion…

I was wowed by this beauty after trying a sample from Chanel and when I say wow, I mean W O W ٩(๑❛ᴗ❛๑)۶
So I got myself a bottle and will enjoy this beauty soon when Spring decides to install itself where I live…

This is not sweet or tropical in any way, shape or form. This is a Chanel perfume so you’ll definitely get those aldehydes (which are part of Chanel’s perfumes’ dna), florals and fruits but nothing is sweet and everything is done with restraint and class.

Absolutely beautiful but not blind buy safe!

Child Chemist

Green touches keep Gardenia fresh and alive. I picture magnolia flowers, large, velvety, creamy white petals against dark green, waxy leaves. Beautiful, elegant & classic. I find the modern EDP to be crisper, less soft and indolic compared to the EDT before it. I prefer the modern.

WhiteFlowerPrincess

I adore this perfume! It's always among my favorite top 5 perfumes and I wear it on every occasion. It's very feminine and I always get compliments by both men and women on it.

It starts off with a slight green note that is fresh but not overpowering, but the gardenia note is the real star here and is delicious, creamy and sweet smelling, but also very fragrant and floral. It is so delicate but at the same time not so whispery that I can't smell it and it doesn't have a presence. I also can smell a slight fruity note and slight vanilla note in the base that adds a touch of complexity. This is definitely a gardenia dominant fragrance though and it's lovely and realistic! I can smell a slight jasmine note too, eventhough it isn't listed here.

Every woman should have this classic fragrance in her wardrobe. 10/10!

Gatorsrules

Growing up I used to smell and pick gardenias from the bushes surrounding the house. I have a gardenia tattoo. I stumbled upon this at the Chanel boutique. This is the most realistic smelling Gardenia on me. It’s elegant, fresh, and memory invoking. I don’t find this old lady-esque on me.

RuthBeton

Often, when I wear Chanel I say to myself, "Why do I wear anything else?" I do, of course, but Chanel is in a league of its own. With that said, I do not care for Gardenia Chanel and I have tried. It is a Gardenia fragrance in name only - gardenia sits top with mixture of scents that smell old fashioned, earthy and green. It smells like something an old lady would wear and . . . I am one! So many young reviewers have sworn by it so I don't get it - they would not wear the original Miss Dior for the same reason.

I love florals - gardenias, honeysuckles, jasmine, etc. so it is not my particular taste. I do know that I like florals so much I have wanted to find a fragrance that actually SMELLS like gardenia without all the extra scents that take it another direction - such as coconut - if I wanted coconut, I would purchase Versace Crystal Noir.

Truly, I have looked for a pure gardenia that is not screechy or smells inexpensive - the purest I have found is Island Gardenia by Jovan but it does smell inexpensive - it was better years ago when it first came out. Still looking . . .

aspirina

Creamy, fresh, delicate gardenia scent. It's beautiful, ultra feminine and clean, transparent. Impossible to cause offense because it is very airy and light. Lovely. I would love to buy a full bottle of this beauty. However, I don't know if I need it. I have petit Fracas and that is a more intense and equally beautiful white floral explosion.
I think it made it to my want list. I would wear it with a flowy sun dress in a warm day. I can have both petit fracas and this gem...

Well, nah...it has no longevity on my skin. A sample is more than enough.

aviegravy

creamy, delicate, a bit green, super fresh and clean gardenia.

karinatfragrantica

Pretty, soft and very creamy gardenia. Elegant and refined.

chrisk252

White florals, smooth aldehydes, creamy, bright. Leans feminine. Would enjoy this on a woman on a date or charity gala. Very natural and high quality. Too feminine for me to wear, but good to have as a reference point.

MakeupNeverSleeps

This presentation strikes me as Chanel's gardenia/camellia interpretation of Frederic Malle's Carnal Flower; it has a botanical/plant greenness in the opening that settles into a white floral...though Gardenia is more muted/soft. I understand the comparison to Elizabeth Taylor's Gardenia, but Chanel's is so much lighter/more transparent and doesn't tear your sinuses right out of your face, like Taylor's. In term's of wearability and the feel they create, they can't be compared. That said, this scent has the performance of body splash, as others have noted (esp in comparison to what people report about the EDT formulation). It took me a half hour to figure out what the dry down of this scent reminded strongly of, which is the scent of the Chanel Rouge Allure lipstick. If you've always wanted to smell like that lipstick, this is your opportunity.

magnoliablossom

This is just perfection. So sophisticated.

Vanian

If you know and like Estee Lauder's Gardenia Tuberose, and Marc Jacobs's one, something little similar to Carnal Flower you will have an idea what this Gardenia is. Pretty.

ladidamia

Got this as Valentine’s gift and it smells beautiful. Jasmine, subtle one. For me, it just stays jasmine. It doesn’t change. Lasts about 5-6 hours. Definitely smells like a classic one.

PerfumeDoll

This perfume is in my top three favorite Chanel perfumes. Fresh flowers with a touch of sweetness.

myra83

The note so lovely.. but much less deep and powering compared to edt version classic. Chanel what you have done to this Gabriel coco heritage??? I wore not more than 40 minute and i couldnt smell at all. Even try hard to snif but doesnt smell anything after 40 minute.. my question.. why you guys should reformula it and destroyed precious quality of this beautiful creation??

Hands up, I LOVE this. Sometimes performance isn't everything - if it takes me walking around constantly smelling my wrist or clothes, so be it. It is utterly charming and so easy to wear, which is often just what I crave. It is one of the most popular Exclusifs and I can see why - it is easy to like, elegant, suits every occasion and doesn't require a degree to understand the notes. I pick up on the green notes and definitely get sweetness in the dry down, but my skin amplifies sweet notes at the best of times.

If you can afford it, it would make a great signature. I have a 75ml and am eyeing up a big bottle.

brokesta911

Chanel Gardenia (1925) - Camelia - #ernestbeaux ‘s perfume doesn’t smell like Gardenias, but that’s not the point. Gardenia distillation is very expensive to do, so all perfumers create their own take on what the flower would smell like. In this case, it represents more Coco’s flower - the Camelia, the queen of the winter flowers. I smell Orange blossom, Jasmine, cut grass Galbanum, Coconut with a base of Musks and Sandalwood. Timeless.

blossomka

7/10. Grape at first. Then musky white flower, jasmine. Grape stays and lasts throughout. Natural, not chemically.

luckylouie

Fairly basic gardenia with no staying power and not worth the money. I can smell the green notes and the gardenia but that's about it. My mum, who is a huge Chanel fan, was very disappointed.

benmitch2021

This is a very light perfume, one that starts off as an intense white floral, with quite strong sillage before settling close to the skin.

The opening is an intense white floral one, I can’t really distinguish anything and it settles before revealing the white floral-honey like heart. The base is an almost amber like vanilla affair.

I don’t really get any of the green notes but I can understand why people might be getting them as there is some kind of open, light scent there that reminds me of open fields on a summers day. There is also a slightly nutty scent which might be coconut.

All in all, it’s a very nice fragrance but is very light and if you want something that has good sillage, I would avoid this.

Ajaycheshire

A present from my son.

This reminds me of an East Coast outdoor wedding. I can see the grounds of this fabulous mansion decorated so perfectly complimented by all the Gardenias in full bloom which waft their scented gifts all around.

The guests are mingling, mainly the well heeled and well connected. There are no plebs at this wedding, just quiet understated old money and good taste.

The bride wafts in and around the guests in her gorgeous gown, hair swept into a loose knot with just a complimentary touch of make up,enough to enhance her beautiful skin and stunning smile.

She wears Chanel Gardenia and no one is offended. It blends beautifully with its surroundings.

alixiialice

This is a lady who is gentle, elegant, grounded and poised. Others admire her from afar. To them, she is always put together and can seem reserved. To herself, she is in a relaxed state of mind, she finds comfort, she does not try to stand out; this is effortless.

On the surface, this is not unique or interesting. Yet everything is so finely tuned and perfected, you can only appreciated it from the inside.

s.pellegrino

This is a pretty, elegant scent.

A scenario: she is the host of a big garden party in her own home for some kind of special occasion – perhaps it’s a fundraiser. It’s late spring, a little humid, but the weather’s supposed to clear for the party (of course it will, it will be a perfect party). “Gardenia” is what she would wear running last-minute errands. Perhaps she picks up the flowers herself (it’s a little Miss Dalloway but a lot more modern). Her scent lingers behind her as she efficiently ticks off her to do list. She does not sweat and her hair does not frizz. On the day of the party itself, however, she wouldn’t wear Gardenia. It’s not remarkable enough for that. Oh, she wouldn’t want to smell offensive – but there would just be more gravitas to her scent that day.

I am not the host of any garden party (luckily) but Gardenia does make me walk up a bit more straight. It’s a somewhat cold scent, I think, that makes me feel clean and a little mean. It is nice, but I don’t find it very interesting: I think that if I want to smell like a rich, elegant, cold lady, I’d like to smell the way she would smell at the party. I also find the fruity notes a little too pronounced (although I wouldn’t describe this as a sweet scent). It was fun to try this, but wouldn’t go for a full bottle.

eunicemichelle

Unlike N°22, Bois des Iles, Cuir de Russie; this does not remotely smells like Ernest Beaux' creation. The original Gardenia was a rich floral; gorgeous and long lasting. This EDP is very light; fleeting and pleasant.

edlih

I have a real vintage Perfume of Chanel Gardenia which i use with jour hermes gardenia, very good, but there is no mention off the perfume on this site

Carlitos

I love this scent on my wife.
It's not a Gardenia Bomb meaning that does not behave like a beastie fragrance. Its sillage and longevity are a bit above average and it projects quite heavily during the first hour.
It opens very fresh with a kind of an herbal scent but not the traditional fougére. The heart is tottaly dominated by white flowers (mainly gardenia of course, but probably a bit of jasmin, tubereuse and other sweet white flowers like orange blossom) with some added fruity jam sweetness. The dry down is really gourmand and pleasant with dominant vanilla and a touch of a cashmere/sandalwood smooth wood.
It has a vibe of Black Opium and Dior Addict Eau de Parfum (my wife owns both as well), but I do not consider it a clone of neither and I prefer the Chanel scent.
Its seduction increases if you also spray clothes or hair.
Bearing in mind all that matters most in a perfume (scent, performance, cost and compliments), I would rate this EdP scent as a very clear 8.5~9.0/10.0. The bottle it's very simple and similar to other Chanel.
I hope other men will have the chance to scent it on their loved ones as well. It's really a magnificent gardenia floral and sweet EdP.

Rosemary14

The green notes are right up front. This gardenia is definitely animalic. I don’t get a ton of coconut or vanilla but it’s definitely there with that Chanel magic. Really, really, love it. I have M. Micallef Gardenia and it’s much more smooth and sweet and dewy. This one is fresher, crisp, green. I don’t know about the longevity yet. I’ve only had it on for about an hour. Gosh it’s pretty. It’s one of those heart breaks for so many people. It’s beautiful but doesn’t last for so many people.

cherie97

This is a gorgeous gardenia perfume with ZERO lasting power. It’s gone so quickly. I would love to own it but would have to use it every two hours... Not exactly my understanding of Chanel quality. Too bad. The scent itself is crisp, fresh gardenia water, so pure and elegant. Wonderful, simple, classy creation. Not worth big money though, it’s gone way too soon...

DrRosie

I made a trip today to the Chanel store in NY, I sampled this beauty, I was taken away. I do not have any Gardenia in my collection, I was happy to purchase this and add it to my collection. If a person can afford it, you will not regret it. 1957 is my next indulgence because I have not quite smell anything like it before.

churinl

A perfect gardenia fragrance, absolutely among the very best. I have one of those adorable and beautifully boxed 4 ml deluxe samples that are readily available on Ebay and a great way to try the Les Exclusifs line without making any costly mistakes due to skin chemistry or a bad blind buy based on notes alone. If I could only have one gardenia fragrance in my collection, it might easily be full bottle worthy. However, I already have several, and Van Cleef & Arpel's Gardenia Petale is remarkably similar and of high quality. Unfortunately, both are fleeting beauties, with little longevity and minimal sillage. Still, it is extraordinarily beautiful. If you have the money, then by all means, indulge. I love it.

lululu1976

This is very very nice. It is in the same family with Jessica Mclintock and La chasse aux papillons. Light and cheerful and airy bubbly fresh floral..but easier to wear and a bit more mature than either one. It can lack a depth so lovely to layer. It doesn’t last well though. No it is totally different from beige which is honey based and very very warm.

Mooniq

To be a Gardenia-scent its smooth and gentle with a good mix of sweet fruits and green notes. I can also detect an airy mild note of coconut in base. A perfect spring/fall-scent but in summer I think the Gardenia easy gets cloying and heavy. Nice to layer with and leather-dominant scent - I tried Van Cleef Midnight in Paris - good match indeed.

Liz_Liz

Love this scent, good for summer. Btw, isn't long lasting and reminds me of Gucci bloom fragrance, but it's more expensive .

samlovefragrance

Already reviewed but had a change of heart:) I really like gardenia after all! What first confused me is that its so unexpected for a chanel, and that it didnt smell of gardenia at all. But discarding that, it's a very modern smelling perfume for something created in the 1920s! It's got a good projection at first, a nice white floral aura tinged with green, fruity, tropical musky aura. It's intense white floral side is a bit "poison-esque" but like tendre poison, the green soapiness tames it. Gardenia shares some facets with tendre to my nose:)
I would like though an intense version of it with a real base (with some vetiver, iris added) the green toned down and the coconut effect amped up with incense, that would be perfect:)

scent: 8/10

Michelle12345678

Young, sweet, fresh gardenia. Light. Feminine. Cheerful.

damienthoresson

Okay. So, as I have reviewed this already (as cocolover56), be prepared for a total 180. I now love this. So, so much. Its confusing to me that I even said this smelt on par with Elizabeth Tayler's Gardenia. I have a bottle of that and love it, but it can't compare with this. Sorry, past me. You were wrong.

There is definitely something very Chanel about this fragrance and I'm only now beginning to recognize that. I'd still say it's a rip off, but I'm not remotely mad about it anymore. There's something sheer and delightful here, it's nowhere near as green as Taylor's and that coconut is actually detectable to me now. Definitely worth a try if you're scared of the EDPs.

So glad that I held on to my 10mL decant. Really, really tempted to buy this at some point. Truly beautiful.

HASSAN-AFSHARIAN

hafidzummc

wearing a sample. it takes the creamy route on me.. which i like. an interesting one from chanel

cocolover56

This is hilarious - it smells almost identical to Gardenia by Elizabeth Arden... which is $30. Beautiful, but so cheap.

Pls, Chanel, bring back the EdT because this ... this. It's pathetic, I'm sorry.

I guess I'll stick to the parfum.

ophelien

There is a mistake in the second paragraph : its 1932 and not gardenia which is reviewed.
It must be an "erreur d etourderie" and i hope it will be corrected soon.
Nonetheless it is interesting.
best regards.
Ophelien.

JoeMacchiato

Having compared EDT and EDP side by side, I can say that there are detectable differences. EDT is lightweight, innocent, and young. EDP is heavy on tuberose, giving off a sexy, mature vibe.
