Midnight Poison by Dior is a Woody Chypre fragrance for women. Midnight Poison was launched in 2007. Midnight Poison was created by Jacques Cavallier, Olivier Cresp and François Demachy. Top notes are Bergamot and Mandarin Orange; middle note is Rose; base notes are Patchouli, Amber and Vanilla.

More than twenty years since creation of legendary Poison, Dior is launching the fifth of the Poison range, Midnight Poison. John Galliano\'s inspiration for visual image of this perfume is the fairytale of Cinderella, brought to life by the French actress Eva Green. The mystery starts when the clock beats midnight, and she is disappearing in the haze. The colors of the flacon are cobalt and ultramarine blue, and it is designed to be reminiscent of Cinderella\'s dress.

The new Dior\'s poison is opening with citrus notes of mandarin and bergamot to the rose heart, and patchouli, amber and French vanilla in the base. The creators of Midnight Poison are Jacques Cavallier and Olivier Cresp of Firmenich in collaboration with Francois Demachy of LVMH.

2007 formulation for sell, 35-40% of 100ml bottle in the US and I’m absolutely sobbing when my husband said, I know you said you liked this, so I brought you this NAME WE DETEST clone and it made me cry harder.

J'aimeunefragrance

They’re mysterious and dressed in black and they pass by you, whispering something in your ear delicately. You’re dumbfounded and you turn around, only to see them turn around and give you half a smile before walking away in the darkness, never to be found again. 🥀

Every time I pick up this one from my collection, I wonder why is Dior boring us with 14583th Miss Dior flanker instead of remake this dark beauty. Not every woman want to smell as strawberry vanilla rose candy.

Juju7777

I MISS THIS GEM PF A PARFUM SO MUCHHH ahhhhhhhh😭😭😭

Patriciam13

It completely enchanted me, this typical Dior citrusy-patchouli line that I love so much, ahhw I can't find words, that’s too deep.
It's very mystical, very mysterious, it's also very aptly named, every time I smell the wet earth in our garden after dark it hits my nose with this earthy-patchouli scent that I love so much and this perfume little bit reminds me of it...
Why discontinued the best things? luckily I own 3 vintage bottles of it.🙏🏽

PeachPerfume

I helped my friend clean out her mom's house, and was rewarded with a vintage bottle of this, totally full. IT IS DIVINE. I'm enthralled by its incredible uniqueness, the patchouli, citrusy, vanilla magical wonderfulness of it all. This must be one of the sexiest perfumes of all time, a true masterpiece, and like others, I recognize how special it is that I have managed to have one of these fall from the sky into my lap, and so don't want to waste it. But I cant help myself from spraying more or reaching for her on date nights, as she is so magnetic and a constant compliment getter. How could it still be full when I first got it? How did my friend's mom stop herself from bathing in this like I want to? I literally have an angel (dont do it, 25% is already gone and you just got it) and a devil (you know you want it, just do it!) on my shoulders every time I reach for it. It is truly shameful that this is discontinued. Does Dior hate taking our money? I doubt it, so there must be a reason. Did you run out of magical unicorn dust, Dior? Tell us why!!! Because one day (sadly very soon at this rate) I will run out. And I will definitely cry.

UnearthlyApothecary

Dior, shame on you for discontinuing this unisex masterpiece! Very niche-like and ahead of it’s time it’s so surprising to me that it was discontinued. Midnight Poison is the best example of why I both love and hate the house of Dior. It is a a scent of contrasts. Cold mentholated patchouli, dark rose, warm sweet amber. It is unmistakable as anything else. Many clones out there that halfway give it justice but nothing quite comes close to the perfection of the original. I have a 2008 tester bottle that I use so sparingly. It’s a rare treat. My favorite of the clones is actually Perles Lalique it’s even more masculine. More peppery and lacking that sweet amber warmth.

First time smelling this and I'm remindeded somewhat of D&G "By", shalimar and CK Euphoria all completley different frags but some small part of them in midnight Poison. I'm really surprised to like this as much as I do. There is a lot of patchouli in the 00's style, which is what I was immediately reminded of when I smelt this and I don't think I would of liked this pre-2010, not sure it would have stood out for me back then but fast forward 17 years and it has certainly has stood the test of time I can see why so many people love it! So far I'm really liking the citrus opening it's bright and warm a bit like orange zest added to cake mix, I think that might be why it reminds me of shalimar.

Gemsense

This reminds me of Snow White— it has taken many years for me to appreciate this. This is the year and the season I finally enjoy this. It’s so masculine at first and I think that’s why I never liked it before because I couldn’t wait for it to develop, just too impatient and washed it off immediately. I decided to let it simmer into my skin for awhile and it’s now tamed and sweetened. A dark snowy night, but still sweet yet demure. I am not a patchouli lover either, I hate patch, but it is what gives this the sophisticated dark wetness it has over the rose. The mandarin is what saves it and gives a juicy little kiss that takes it from being bland to being sexy.

Ambrenuit

I love this! I have vintage bottle, that I have bought from ebay, which is a gem and I use it very sparingly, for very special ocasions since it is discontiinued. But everytime I use it, I end up craving more, and more and more. I can not imagine winter without this gem, it could easily become signature for someone who likes big perfumes. I am a go big or go home kind of girl, so I love it. Masculine is the word, that was used many times in reviews of this perfume and while I agree with slightly masculine, I also appreciate masculine notes and one of my all time favorites is Dior Ambre Nuit, wich is unisex and also has that masculine vibe. Wearability of masculine frags for women very much depends on personality of the woman and in my case also on age. I would not pull off masculine vibes in my twenties, when I looked like a doll. In my forties I enjoy all those big perfumes.
Bergamot, Mandarin, roses, patchouli, amber and vanilla. What a simple recipe and what a glorious frag. I really love patchoulli in this, it is all about good patchouli underlined by roses amber and citruses. It is simply beautiful.
I understand that perfume houses stop manufacturing perfumes that do not sell very well, but I also feel, that timing of this perfume was wrong. It was launched in the wrong time and that is probably the reason, why it was discontinued, market was flooded with many frags and Midnight Poison was somehow lost and overlooked in that crowd. Dior should definitely bring this gem back. It is magical and timeless perfume.
I was in the ballet this saturday and I wore long navy blue velvet dress and Midnight Poison. It was a Cinderella ballet and to my great surprise, all the scenery was navy blue, navy blue sky with thousands of shiny stars and moon, dancing room where Cinderella danced with prince was in style of Versailles 17-th century and it was navy blue velvet walls with golden ornaments, ballet dancers had navy blue dresses with golden details. It was mesmerizing, I was in first row and I felt to be the part of the spectacle.

Tinabill

Yesterday I was organizing and dusting a shelf from my perfume collection. My heart sank when I realized that about half of my 50 ml MP bottle has evaporated. I couldn’t have used more than 5 ml myself as I cherish it knowing it’s been discontinued. The bottle is more than 10 years old but I have other, much older perfumes that held the juice well. Anyway, I decided to use and enjoy what was left rather than have it disappear -unappreciated- in thin air!
What a beauty! You see while many rose 🌹 patchouli 🍃 compositions come as goth or rock, MP lends a sophisticated elegance to the dark and mysterious nature of this combo. The citruses on top lends some class and airiness, the vanilla some creaminess, so so beautiful.
I will be sad to see it go but I have an almost full bottle of YSL Elle which is pretty similar though not identical.

Perpetual Collector

@bbyevrm I am not sure if you are testing from the sample or you actually bought a bottle. If it is a sample, someone duped you, and if it's, in fact, a bottle, someone sold you a fake (there is an ocean of fakes out there when it comes to this particular perfume).
This perfume is literally dark, misterious, beautiful, but very cold and somewhat on a masculine side. There is a zero sweetness here and it is def not candyish. Also not "cute". This is class in a bottle, i certainly would never think it's cute. I am not sure what you are testing but it is not M P.

gretta

Wow. Just managed to get my nose on this for the first time today. Wow. Wow. Wow. Everything is right with this. I am blown away by this gem. Dior what were you thinking discontinuing this???

Perpetual Collector

@Suze1970, you got scammed. Just a simple 2 second google search could tell you that Parfumly is a scam site. I don't understand people.

Suze1970

I'm on the fence about this perfume. But I did read there are those who are in love with Midnight Poison. I found on Parfumly. Never heard of them until today so can't recommend or not. But I did buy a perfume and shows at 58 euros, which when shoes on my account as about $64.00
I've seen way way overpriced bottles on eBay or Amazon and nowhere else.
On Parfumly it is boosted at 89.00 euros so maybe about 100.00? Way less than 400.00 on Ebay.
Hope those who.love this fragrance will get at a decent notice as opposed to.those who will resell and jack up.
prices.

Manisha0187

In search of a bottle of this perfume(Canada or USA).Thanks

KowltheOwl

I had this and it was beautiful.

EL Radiant Mirage gives me Midnight Poison vibes. RM also reminds me of discontinued YSL Elle and Elle Extreme which were similar to MP too.

AaronPaulBeauty

This is my favorite fragrance of ALL TIME! I don’t normally like patchouli, but this one smells so sophisticated. Longevity and projection are superb. I worked for Dior when this launched, and am rationing what is left of my original 2007 bottle. If you have one you are looking to sell, please DM me!

lmnsvgz

Finally managed to try it!

And it's nothing like I expected. It's often described as wet, deep, dark patchouli, bitter, citrus-y. No, no way.
To me it smells quite airy - I smell patchouli, rose and vanilla, there is a light citrus that is felt both in the initial spray and drydown. The blend of the fragrance is smooth and not one note is too prominent.

Pink roses, patchouli, slices of a citrus fruit, vanilla pods. There is something rainy and foresty about the fragrance. The scenery I imagine is the red riding hood in the forest in the evening. Something mysterious, whimsical about it.

Such a stunning scent.

MMMhhHHhhHHuuuhhhhh

I really enjoy this I don’t like patchouli but I’m mp it’s so not so fresh not so boring it’s opens with bergamot and patchouli and then velvety creamy roses comes you can still feel the bergamot and patchouli I don’t get vanilla in this it’s mysterious dark but still clean and the sillage of this is crazy and I think it’s a compliment getter

petroleuse

I remembered this scent from my 20s where I really liked it. I recently aquired this into my collection (I got it very cheap from a woman who used to work for Dior and who was getting rid of her collection). It is (still) a lovely scent. Patchouli is strong with the classic citrus opening. The drydown is very creamy on me. But it also feels slightly “young” or adolescent maybe? Maybe it is the vanilla/amber thing. Great clubbing scent. I wish the rose was stronger on me. It reminds me a bit of Angel by Mugler (which was my signature for a few years) but with a citrus opening, and not quite as strong. Not deep or complex enough for me to understand the crazyness surrounding it. Maybe I have just matured on to other scents. It has happened before! I like it and I’ll def wear it. But it doesn’t do for me what Noir De Noir by Tom Ford does for me (also a rose patchouli scent). Glad I didn’t spend very much on it.

rosetinteddream

I also bought DUA’s dupe “Late Night Venom” as I really want to find “my poison” and as this one is discontinued, I don’t think blind buying it for $300+ is a wise idea. I let it sit for a few months as you have to do with DUA fragrances. I’ve honestly been very impressed with their dupes, and I know many on here will turn their head at the idea. But sometimes the original fragrance is either reformulated to be a shadow of itself, or is altogether discontinued. DUA’s dupes of Allure Homme, Coromandel, and Chance EDT by Chanel are all spot f*%#ing on, as well as their dupe for Abercrombie’s Fierce (original formulation, don’t hate - it’s something I enjoy). So I decided to try out their dupe of this.

The citrus in the beginning is actually very refreshing, and doesn’t seem to be locked to winter wear. It stays like this for, on my skin, about 15ish minutes before it morphs into this very hyper realistic rose with hints of the base. The base becomes more apparent with time.

All in all, I was surprised by this. I had a bottle of the Poison Esprit De Parfum from the early 90s and could never get on with it, because I’ve learned that Tuberose shines or screams on my skin…it is a note that I can’t enjoy despite so many classics and legends having it in its pyramid/blend. Plus the original Poison reminds me of grape juice, and I hate grape juice. Anywho, I gave that away to a more obviously gothic friend. But there are several flankers of Poison and I’d really like to try them all in some way or another. I do like this, but it isn’t as dark/noir/gothic as I was hoping. I absolutely get the medicinal comments, in fact, before it gets to the base I get a slight* memory of rubbing on an herbal salve to help a condition/wound. It moves on from that and is more elegant than any herbal/comfrey type of salve. And it doesn’t have Tuberose so I can actually get enjoyment from it. And I do enjoy it a lot, but I don’t know if I love it. But not all of my Chanel’s were love at first sniff (see Coromandel, No 19, Chance EDT/EDP) but eventually became some of my favorite scents of all time. I love roses (see name and neck tattoo) and patchouli, so I’m still holding out on falling in love. Also, this seems like a night fragrance. I might wear it for Halloween, or even layer it with my vintage Opium. I’m a Chanel boy but Dior comes in after as they have created many beautiful scents including my favs Dior Homme Eau and the original Addict (they have been churning out pretty subpar main offerings since 2020). But I will not give up on finding my poison. And who knows, maybe in a few months this will scream to me like no other. I’d love to try the elixir that I doubt will ever happen, that caramel addition seems like it would be amazing.

I was not able to find this scent anymore I think it may have been discontinued. Also, the price point kills me. Its too expensive for my small pockets. So, I decided to get my hands on a dupe of this which is know as 'Late Night Venom' from DUA fragrances. The woody chypre touch of this dupe is so good, smells so feminine and such a long lasting scent. It is so intoxicating and intense and smells absolutely beautiful after dry down. The best thing is it so affordable and easily available on their website. Do try it out guys!

Sophia97

A beautiful dark and charming fragrance. This was my signature fragrance for a while but due to the price and two things more I'm not able to purchase as much as I used to, Patchouli and the amount of sweetness present in the fragrance is too much for me other than it's beautiful.

Charmedbymeghan

Parris Corner Pendora Nuit de Passion is a dupe for this, for whoever may be interested ♡

snow_white

Years later and I am still heartbroken that this was discontinued. It wasn’t for everyone, but proceed with caution.. finding even a sample could possibly have you chasing this dragon with the rest of us. Absolutely baffling that this was discontinued and not kept with the permanent line. She was the star of the Poison show, for me.

xenanora

Nothing and I'm telling you "nothing!" can come close to Midnight Poison.
If I need to pick only one rose I would prefer MP. French perfumery in its best.
Perfect citrusy patchouli opening along with velvety roses. A very true and direct to heart of rose.
If you have been dreaming about rose with cold touches and nuances, MP is (was) the way. (Can we make this style trend again I'm so tired of smelling ethyl maltol, ethyl vanillin in my rose fragrances. Stop with rose marmalades, pretty please!) Amber in here is almost neutral due to presence of flamboyant patchouli.
Dark blue color represents exceptionally well the main style of this perfume. what an incredible sensation, it smells unique, courageous but it also has soft, delicate side too. I won't stop loving MP, until we get it back one day.
Olivier Cresp has my heart, respect and admiration for years, MP is enough to explain why.

I am so lucky to have two bottles. But I want another one please dm me if you have a bottle in good conditions.

NandaGScorpio

It's been so long since I smelled all the poison flankers. I remember trying them all in a perfume shop once and this one, the green one and Hynpotic stood out to me. I can't really remember what it smelled like, except for the fact I could tell it was a Poison, there was something in the dna of them all back then that was true to the og. This was intoxicating to me. I wanted it for years and was gutted to find out it was discontinued. I've had Hypnotic Poison since then but would have gotten Midnight if I could have, for definite. Another one I'll be getting the perfume oil or a dupe of.

*I did end up getting a dupe version of it and it's not as witchy l as I remembered. My nose has matured a lot since then. I just get a dark, smooth rose and cold, sort of medicinal patchouli on the dry down which is obviously what I thought was a witchy vibe when I was much younger. The citrus top notes don't overpower the heart and base at all, there's a faint sort of creamy orange once it's dried down. I could have sworn there was some sort of spices or herbs (someone said it's a bit minty and I definitely smell that now and maybe a bit of liquorice or something) but it must just be the way it's blended and the patchouli giving it that smell. It's really nice and very strong. I would wear this at any time, not just night time or going out. I'm sure people who are very familiar with the original would be able to find small differences but for me this is fine and I'm glad I got to remind myself of a perfume I never thought I'd smell again. I can't really compare it to anything else I've got. It's really strong aswell, it's from the elixir range so it's stronger than their normal edps.

*I've fallen absolutely head over heels in love with this dupe and it's made me want to track down a bottle of MP now. I would have loved to have tried the extrait of this, I can only imagine how stunning that is. I definitely need this beautiful blue bottle in my collection. I'm really craving old skool classics now after being heavily into super sweet, sugary gourmands lately. It's criminal that this is discontinued. This is infinitely better than Hypnotic imo.

My first review on a new account. I used to have another account with alot of reviews from back when I was in school, which just got lost over the years and never really wanted to start from over on a new account. But oh how I missed this!

So, midnight poison has been quite the experience. Or lack thereof? For a very long time, it has been something that I have wanted to own a bottle of for years and years. I would not recommend blind buying this at all. And not because it's a bad scent, I do quite love this, and not because it's overly polarising either. In fact, the fact that its not as ground breaking and eccentric as I imagined it to be is why I would not recommend the blind buy.

Whenever I have read it's reviews and experiences with midnight poison, one acclaimed perfume writer even stated in his book that this is a fragrance for women who have donated their brain to science, or something to that effect, not to mention the notes going patchouli>rose>amber according to votes, I had expected a large dreary wooden rose, something damp and dark and dense, and perhaps even cold and medicinal or GOTHIC. But nope. Don't get me wrong, while I have grown to love this for the scent that it is, it is not really as "midnight" as I'd have liked it to be. In fact, I would much rather wear this in warmer months than in winter.

Midnight poison opens with a burst of fresh oranges and a touch of bergamot, and a lot of patchouli slicing through it. This however is not the warm dirty smelling patchouli as we know it to be, nor is it the cold and medicinal patchouli that I personally love. It is the fresh and clean patchouli present in most fragrances on the shelves today. This clean patchouli with the fresh citrus is just very apt for the summer months. While some cold fragrances really ARE winter fragrances, a nod to Dior Poison and Clinique Aromatics, a cold fragrance that is also FRESH is just a warmer weather fragrance to me. While the citrus does fade on skin, making way for a cold smelling rose and a slightly smoky amber, which I personally love, the fragrance becomes considerably lighter and never warms up too much despite losing the burst of citrus in the top notes. The fragrance stays like this for most of the wear, just getting lighter with the vanilla become more pronounced as most of the smoke and wood accords fade, which was already just a touch to start with. On fabric, the citrus stays a good while longer and the patchouli and amber is more pronounced. Longevity and sillage leaves much to be desired, either that or I must have gotten some sort of anosmia from this fragrance. Lasts better on clothes.

So yes while it is not a generic fragrance at all, it is also not in the league of other love hate/fragrances, I imagine quite a lot more people would find this pleasant than say, something like Tom Ford's Black Orchid, but it is still well done nevertheless. I personally cannot stand fragrances with citrus in them but I still quite like this. My initial disappointment faded relatively fast as I came to love the fragrance for what it is instead of what my expectations were of it.

tldr; not really as midnight as everyone says, and not a heavy fragrance either, still pleasant nevertheless. A cold rose with a solid base of clean patchouli and a creamy/balmy touch of smoke-y amber and vanilla in the background.

PS: this is not as masculine as everyone says either, perhaps only in the opening. I personally find fragrances that dry down with a prominent vanilla to lean more feminine than masculine. People should wear whatever floats their boats though.

Mdk

A friend gave me a 30ml bottle and I loved it so much that I bought two 100ml bottles.
Then this has been my signature fragrance for a long time.
When I finished using one and started using the other, I found out that Midnight Poison was discontinued, so I retired from my daily scent to keep it for a long time.

A very mysterious and dark scent.
Patchouli, bergamot and rose with vanilla and musk.
It's a patchouli bomb right from the start. At first it appears with bergamot, so it's a little aggressive.
In the unlikely event that someone else notices the scent during the top note, it will be like this – wow, you smell Indian ink! (This is my experience)
But as rose and musk appear, the scent becomes softer and more complex.

Now I don't think it's such a rare combination. But it was a niche and unique scent that I never smelled anywhere else at the time.
It probably came out about 15 years too early.
If this was on sale now, I think it would probably be a very popular perfume.
I keep hoping to be revived.

تعریفی که میتونم از این عطر بکنم برای یه لیدی بالغ و مرموز فوق العاده اس هر وقت این عطر بو میکنم دوباره عاشقش میشم اینکه توقف تولید شده فاجعه هست

eacook160

I love how this perfume opens. It’s almost as if you are entering some sort of dark garden. It definitely tells a story, and I am a sucker for any fragrance that does so. It then dries down into this intense patchouli and rose scent that is enjoyable to wear. It’s unusual and complex. It took me a moment to acclimate to it as I don’t usually wear patchouli scents, but it’s really starting to grow on me. It’s an early 2000’s scent for sure, but in a good way. I’m glad to have a mini of this in my collection.

cats_eye

I used to love this.. of course it's been discontinued for a while now. It was a unique dark, woody fruity scent. Nowadays I wear Euphoria and Jimmy Choo which are in the same catigory, bit I'll always miss this one.

SusiLisa_pixie

This was my signature scent and gosh do I miss this!!!!

I've been through so many perfumes in almost two decades and NOTHING but NOTHING comes close to the magic that Midnight Poison was for me. There are other fragrances I hold dear but this was the fragrance I would rather keep for life and nothing else.

It was an earthy, mysterious, dark rose, polarizing potion that made nights out even more memorable. I felt like a raven-haired, gothic pixie wearing this.

11PHOSPHORUS11

It’s a pleasant sweet patchouli fragrance.

You’ll like it if you like Angel by Mugler AND of course if you’ll manage to find it anywhere as it’s been discontinued for many years now.

However, I think of this as a wasted opportunity.
With the ‘midnight’ in its name Dior could have made a great use of all the night-blooming flowers like jasmine, tobacco flower, tuberose. Then make it balsamic and resinous and then add vanilla and syrupy bitter almond or cherry with black pepper and cocoa.

Nothing like this happened with Midnight Poison so, I don’t miss it. There’s no continuity to the ground breaking original to lift it up and bring it forward a few decades.

Still, masterfully blended and worth having.

Patrongirls

Midnight posion is sophisticated, mysterious and a bit ominous but at the same time very romantic. I feel like a powerpuffgirl when I wear it.
I find this fragrance quite unique and beautiful in its dark and mysterious aspects. The whole composition has integrity and balance. I don't think it's all over the place like other modern patchouli fragrances that try to do too much and put too many components together.

massimilianoinquieto

Gemsense

Very much a dirty patchouli scent. Patch drowns out everything else.

kurzemesradioel

I want it!

All I know about this scent is that I want it!
I don't know when or how am i going to get a taste of it, but I refuse to believe that it would be forever impossible for me!

Guys, please wish me the best!

Some day!
Fingers crossed!

PKSMKE

If you're still looking for an alternative to Midnight Poison, I recommend Ducal Palace by Fragrenza. It captures the fresh and light aspects of Midnight Poison where YSL Elle may fall short.

Lolapoop

Just bought full bottle for some absurdal money so I have full collection of Poison line now.
To me this fragrance is very old fashion and being no spring chicken myself ,I don't want to age myself by using it, instead choosing something modern and more unique .
I think ,it could easily be unisex

Anabee

This is such a nice, well-rounded fragrance and the best from the Poison line, imo
I think it got discontinued due to bad marketing. It’s described as a “mysterious, date night fragrance” and the name ‘Midnight Poison’ makes you instantly think of something dark, alluring and gourmand, which this fragrance is anything but! Dior should’ve made this into an entirely new perfume, instead of marketing it as a Poison -flanker. Midnight Poison is a total “freshy” , perfectly suitable for spring/summer daytime. I can see this fragrance reach its full potential on a hot summer afternoon, when you just lounge around with a cold glass of iced tea ..in your gothic mansion ..and your name is Wednesday... I guess the “mysterious” part did creep in after all, but not to the extend of a classic seductress. I personally would not wear it as a night time fragrance. To me it plays in the same ballpark as Dior’s Bois D’Argent or Gris Dior.

It’s not strictly feminine, it has a unisex touch, smelling citrusy, spicy and woody. I truly wished it was still available for a reasonable price, but I bought a dupe recently: Eclat 293. Highly recommend for anyone, who doesn’t want to take chances on an overpriced second-hand bottle.

My aunt (who is the coolest person I know) used to have multiple bottles of this gifted to her. It was her signature scent for quite a while and I always associated her with midnight poison. I remember smelling it as a teen and falling in love with it. I was extremely disappointed to learn it's been discontinued. I don't quite remember what it smelled like but have leftover feelings about it. It's pretty hard to find where I'm living and tbh I'm not quite sure if I would like to have a bottle. Some things are just better as memories in the past. I'd be so upset if I tried it again and it didn't live up to my expectations so this one probably will be just enigmatic and nostalgic for me in the future.

sserpentine

Finally got myself a 2008 40ml bottle of this at a great price. Prior to this, I only had the mini which I rarely used in case I'd never get myself a full bottle of this magic potion. I've been retiring myself from my beloved rose and patchouli combos, veering more into the white floral, iris, powder, vintage perfume territory but this, this fragrance is NOT your typical patchouli rose. Most often patchouli rose combos come in a very damp, dark kind of combination, almost moldy - like an ancient vampire crypt being opened for the first time during a particularly wet autumn day. Midnight poison is elevated, it doesn't have that earthy damp patchouli nor a hyper-realistic cloying rose that accompanies it. It's masterfully blended patchouli, amber, vanilla, rose, and citrus - the notes don't dominate one another and they flow in a symphonic melody. There are definitely more notes in this fume that aren't listed. I smell jasmine and fresh, green peony in particular. It's a mysterious and enigmatic scent because it's not obvious. It's a shadow creeping across the wall, a piece of silk at midnight dancing with the wind... it's ethereal and esoteric. A beautiful scent indeed, dries down to a clean musky rose with a warm amber and patch base.

Edit: I wore this out to the bar the other night and this is definitely a crowd pleaser. The amount of people asking me what I was wearing was amazing. I have no idea why this was discontinued, it's gorgeous and leaves behind the most beautiful trail of fragrance.

razorsinthenight

The quintessential goth perfume. My favorite to put on to go out to goth clubs. I still can’t believe this was discontinued. One of the most mysterious perfumes I’ve ever owned.

bbyevrm

the patchouli in this is too beautiful even though i hate patchouli

dezaval

When I first smelled this fragrance, it immediately reminded me of myself being 5 years old at my kindengarden. My kiddengarden was a very old cottage in dark, vintage pink colour. Next to it there were three cherry plum trees. It had a yard with green grass, where there was a huge roman rosebush. I recalled playing with the other kids there and having fun during spring, being happy, innocent and carefree... The earthiness of the soil of the yard, the blue sky and the smell of those pink roses in bloom in May come together in this masterpiece of modern perfumery.

That kindengarden, those cherry plum trees and the roman rosebush don't exist for many many years now, that green grass yard has been cemented and I am not that child anymore... It reminds me of a past long gone...I treausure it so much!

Midnight Poison by Dior is a diabolically poisonous potion like just a few others, with an ambiguous and mysterious scent.
It impresses with its pungent centifoglia rose aroma blended with patchouli. It is slightly resinous and minty, besides being quite earthy. For me, who deeply admires the feminine genre, this perfume portrays the most beautiful Balzacian, surely a mature woman, eternally young and sure of her timeless beauty.
The association that the fragrance suggests to me, is reminiscent of a tropical night dry storm with thunders and lightnings. It strikes us suddenly and indiscreetly. Its intense accords allow for a efemere citrus opening, sweetened by mandarin a bit caramelised by the influence of the other notes that are still developing. Suddenly the rose arrives, first a dark and almost dirty rose, which opens up surrounded by nuances of earthy patchouli. The atmosphere seems sombre and enigmatic. The initial storm gives way to a quieter dark night, very enveloping, and marked by a bright and pinkish full moon guiding our senses. However, it is the woody and earthy patchouli note that becomes dominant and embracing like the cloak of night. But the rose note maintains the lunar influence that guides us through the evolution of the fragrance. We may notice then that an amber nuance begins to soften the ambiance, which remains intimidating but without any austerity. I discover that, after all, the Balzacian beauty knows how to smile and some how warms our soul while holding out her hand towards us.
At the base the development is slow. The clouds, as they dissipate, now allow us to see the moon brightness in the deep blue but increasingly clear night sky. The magical dark scent of the rose becomes now a warm and velvety heart, surrounded by lighter woods and with a new sweetness transmitted by a creamy and seductive vanilla.
Unfortunately the night is not eternal and just as night fades into day, this Night Poison fades after 8 hours. However, it lasts long enough to spread its seductive mantle and to conquer us, creating inner feelings of admiration for whomever may be using it... I wonder who will it be?

This industry already let disappear two precious "Midnights" from our daily life. Besides Midnight Poison by Dior also Midnight in Paris by Van Cleef & Arpels has abandoned the shop windows. Although it is still possible to find both perfumes in the labyrinth of the internet, both had a continuity in the fragrance world that, whether or not they were inspired by them, have somewhat similar accords and sensations. Midnight Poison has always been the best Dior women's perfume in my opinion. I still have an almost full 100ml bottle which I keep religiously and which both my wife and I use only sparsely. One of its perfumers - Jacques Cavallier, the wizard of Opium pour Homme by Yves Saint Laurent, and Tuscan Leather by Tom Ford among others - created a spectacular emulation with the magnificent Matière Noire by Louis Vuitton. It is not exactly a similar scent, but the torrent of emotions generated are the same. Now I know what to do when this Dior poison of mine runs out.

My opinion:
This is an eternal perfume and it has been criminally discontinued. Its fans were condemned to console themselves with tenuous inspirations like Elle by Yves Saint Laurent or Perles by Lalique. Those who did not dismiss the original, just found refuge in some internet reseller but at exorbitant prices. So I advise against a blind purchase in any case.
Very few times have rose and patchouli been so well combined as in this fragrance. If you find this lost gem in any neighbourhood small perfumery, don't miss it. I bought my 100ml bottle (boxed and in mint condition) lost in the middle of a garage sale paraphernalia.

This brings me to my knees, such a beautiful creation, I am shocked how they discontinued this... I think this perfume today would be one of the best sellers in the whole world. Amazing composition, the potion that meets all the expectations when you read the name.
I am such a fan of this slightly earthy a bit sweet patchouly note, it has a little earthy feeling, truly dark and mysterious, I would not wear this perfume in daylight, as it feels so secretive. This could even be a unisex perfume for sure as I know a lot of men like this kind of patchouly scent.
I believe these three master perfumers had a futuristic vision, today this perfume would seduce crowds... To me this somehow reminds me of Jovoy - Psychedelic.
I truly envy those that still have a bottle....

Yamie

To me, this smells like a unique and cold gothic rose with traces of mint (might be the patchouli). I have never smelled anything quite like it. It is light and airy but distinctive, a fragrance that is more appropriate for night time but I like it, and since it is inoffensive, I wear it to the office.

212 VIP ROSE CAROLINA HERRERA - Another good dupe

Ferra_Verto

Very lovely; a deep yet somehow still sparkling rose-patchouli scent. Lovely touches of amber and vanilla come in as the scent pares down. My bottle is older and well-macerated I should note.
Not a major projector, envelops the body in a delightful cocoon. Perfect for autumn & winter.

perfumeaddict82

I love this, I can't buy it anymore but I got the YSL as recommended and it is very similar to a good dupe would recommend it.

mirrorghost

this one starts with citruses and a hint of patchouli, and after a few minutes i get some rose. this is softer than i anticipated and remains fairly linear. it is pretty but it's not an absolute love for me, but i was curious to try because of the hype. this is not *that* dark but maybe for its time it was? i can sort of see that.

Phedre1981

I guess I'm the only one, but Chanel Coco Noir reminds me of this. I got memories of cold winter nights out on the town wearing Midnight Poison (granted that was back in 08) when I put on Coco Noir this evening for the first time in a while. It has a very similar feeling in my opinion, that super smooth and classy, yet dark and mysterious patchouli. The biggest difference I can think of is the powderiness of Coco Noir, which makes it lean more mature and proper. I loved Midnight Poison back in the day, but it never struck me as extremely unique. I don't pine away for it, because fragrances like Coco Noir exist and can fill that place in my collection well enough.

I also sometimes get reminded of this when I smell Sauvage.

Wonderfugl

I find that Tom Ford's Noir de Noir is very similar to this beauty. I own a bottle of the original formulation so I am very familiar with the scent.

soapyclean

I love it!! Its so mysterious and captivating. Not too heavy imo, but a very distinct scent. It gives dark feminine, not very approachable-yet seductive. Perfect blend of patchouli, citruses and rose. Though it is said that YSL-Elle is very similar, I don’t get it. To me it’s much more sophisticated and complex than Elle. I wish it was not discontinued.

Laurus

Many say this is like YSL Elle and if you like Elle youll like this. I stronhly disagree. Elle to me smells like a cheap watered down rosey toilet freshener spray. I hated its dullness and Id never say thryre similar at all. This one is bright and sparkling and so juicy, truly interesting. I do not mostly like rose scents but something in this makes me love it. It was the best of all poisons. I also think it isnt masculine at all. Atleast not on my skin.

DT953

Not gonna lie, this is an extremely disappointing fragrance. If you haven't tried it and you feel the need to, I wouldn't spend more than $150. It's an average patchouli fragrance. I've owned this and passed it on in less than 3 months. I was initially excited, but then it was just a "oh I have a rare fragrance that's highly sought after" excitement. Tendre Poison, now that's a complex scent. Midnight Poison is the least complex, least nuanced fragrance in the entire line. You spray it on, and that's all it's going to be. Take this as your sign that you don't need to spend $400 on a bottle.

DSdiva

I can barely breathe when I take this poison (potion) again, and again...My endless and ultimate addiction to it is written on the stars! The fresh start is like a burst of citrus wind flirting with my expectations...but they will be deceived. For the Cold radiated from the camphoric patchouli soothe the fire in my veines, giving an advance to snowflakes of become a stardust flickering on the night. Darkness begins to creep into every cell of my body, seeping into my thoughts... but, at the moment when I expect the icy chills to drum through me...I realize that something in here exude warmth, and wraps me in an ambery hug with a hint of Vanilla...This is the Irresistible Dualistic Nature of one unique and sadly discontinued fragrance!

Gemsense

This would be gorgeous if there wasn't any patchouli in it. The patch drowns out all the other notes, so it's just patch and bergamot. Very masculine. Doesn't have much of a story, nothing develops.

Mistress Eva

Midnight Poison is among my most epically dark and sexy fragrances. Sadly unavailable now, much to the chagrin of many, I am so glad I have this gorgeous gem in my collection. It’s a patchouli bomb and an example of a designer fragrance that dared to be bold and dark. Any woman who can wear Midnight Poison is probably my kind of woman. It’s by far my favorite of all the Poisons.

Powerhouse performer. Lives up to its name.

missmaddiemac

It's been nine months since my review and nothing has changed, I still absolutely love this perfume and it's in my top five of all time. I just wanted to add this lil nugget of information...

Midnight Poison is absolutely gorgeous when layered with Byredo Gypsy Water. I never really wore Gypsy Water (got it in the nomade collection and always preferred Bal D'Afrique) but now I wear it often paired with this. If you have a bottle and cherish every drop, finding a layering combination you like is a great way to extend it. One of my coworkers told me it was the best combination he ever smelled, only rivaled by the personal signature scent of a coworker from a nearby department who wears Baccarat Rouge 540 paired with Miss Dior Rose N' Roses.

I can be kind of a snob when it comes to dupe houses (I find it similar to cheaper brands making knockoffs of designer items) and generally avoid them in favor of just getting samples/decants of perfumes that would otherwise be too expensive for me to buy. So I've never sought out a Midnight Poison dupe. However, I would definitely love to try the Louis Vuitton one mentioned in the review below mine, given that it's from a respected, reputable house AND from the same perfumer... say no more!

Essarai

For everyone talking about how much this miss this discontinued perfume, Jacques Cavallier ( one of the co-creators) made Matiere Noir for Louis Vuitton and it's basically a dupe. The two are indistinguishable in my opinion, with Matiere possibly being a little nicer.

villiruusut

I was absolutely seduced by this scent when I tested it in a Paris Sephora back in Christmas of 2012. I was contemplating whether to buy the perfume as a student. I ran a quick search on Google where rumours of the perfume being discontinued was already floating around. A retail assistant at that Sephora branch assured me that it was still going to be around but I didn't want to take my chances and bought a 100ml bottle. I'm so glad I did that because the resale prices for this on eBay are absolutely ridiculous!

The burst of citrus and patchouli felt like the start of mysterious chase through the dark woods, eventually leading you to a magical meadow of roses and vanilla. I normally spritz just once on my wrist and dab it on my pulse points and the sillage is enormous. The scent lingers even on my clothes for weeks. The fragrance stays on my skin for almost 36h, even after showering twice. I've always picked up a bit of grapefruit (it's likely the bergamot) from this perfume even though it's not listed as one of its notes. The scent evokes feelings of elegance, darkness, power, and allure.

After its discontinuation, I tested the other flankers in the line but found them all too sweet for my liking. I don't remember much of the scent of the original Poison nor Hypnotic Poison either because this has my heart completely. I only reserve this perfume for black tie events because I don't want to finish the bottle too quickly. I've found a dupe on Oil Perfumery that's meant to be an impression of this, but have yet to try that. I'll be clinging onto the flacon for the rest of my life even when the juice empties.

Frankie1

Such a unique scent, initially I wasn't keen on this, original poison was my favourite, but after using this for a winter night time scent, it was hard to go back to the sicky sweet original poison, and it became a favourite. I really miss this, I even got a dupe when it was discontinued but never matched it unfortunately.

jasminejessy999

here in my country who where that kind of perfumes they call he is an old man or she is an old women i was so excited to buy it and i bought it i thought it would be so good but it actually put me in a sudden i smell no rose or vanilla i only smell patchouli and aloooot of citruses like i think it alittle bit overrated i like this kind of perfumes but this is not for me or i dont know i think it is for men more than women

KAYAGIRL

Here In my country New Zealand this beauty is discontinued.
I am utterly guttered I might never smell this perfume again.

Poison, the original purple perfume is my most favorite fragrance , My signature scent,
But I do love and miss Midnight Poison.

spiderleenie

Finally was able to snag a few decants of this beauty. I'm a big fan of the Dior Poison line (with Poison Girl being the exception), and Midnight Poison has a reputation that I just couldn't bypass when I had the chance to try it.

Admittedly, I am not a huge fan of the citrusy and patchouli opening. Honestly, to my nose, the opening smells like Pine Sol. Now, I genuinely enjoy the clean smell of Pine Sol ... Just not as a perfume, haha. Fortunately, though, those citruses disappear within 2 minutes and are nowhere to be seen once they are gone.

This fragrance becomes a rose-patchouli-amber-vanilla powerhouse once those citruses fade away quickly, and that's when I start to love it. I completely agree with some who say that the rose starts to become "jammy," so there's a sweetness that blends oh-so-beautifully with the sharp patchouli, the powdery amber, and the creamy vanilla. Honestly, on my skin, I want to compare the rose note in Midnight Poison to Lush's Rose Jam (which is one of my all-time favorite fragrances, period!). Midnight Poison totally comes across as a greener, and more ambery version of Rose Jam, and it's beautiful. If you are a fan of Lush's Rose Jam and want something to wear at night, then I think that Midnight Poison will become your best friend.

I, like so many others, wish that Dior had not discontinued this beauty. I'm guessing it got the boot because it came out during a time where the sweet celebrity fragrances/Juicy Couture boom was first happening, so I could easily see how this got lost in the fray. A shame, because it *is* a beautiful fragrance.

emjh

Dear Dior,

Just bring this back please!

AleshaA

Mysterious strong counter part of poison line I never tried this until very recently it has the poison dna but yet so different and unique from the rest of the flankers
Gorgeous in its own way very witchy vibe love the rose in this yet very masculine great for autumn & winter shame it’s no longer available to buy without paying a heavy price tag

Edit: so in love I recently purchased 2 bottles of the first and second edition
Well what more can I say, i did recently read a blog about why this was discontinued apparently they used pure extracts from amber patchouli and rose so they tried to reproduce this with the more synthetic ingredients they use now in their poison perfumes but it just didn’t work and didn’t smell anything like midnight poison
So that was the real reason why they couldn’t reproduce the same scent
as time changes everything this perfume needed the pure extracts to stay alive
Sadly we have lost this beauty forever and it will never be back in production
But I’m glad I managed to find a couple of bottles reasonably priced
It truly is my scent it just makes me smile when ever I sprits this on my wrists
I would stock up on this if I could
If you love it you should too
You won’t find another midnight poison
The closest dupe I found was from perfume Parlour extract de parfum version dark venom
But the dua version late night venom is too ott

Lendiôn

‼️If it helps, the brand Dua Fragrances has apparently a spot on dupe of the original formula. I personally haven’t tried it but i know that dua is a very trusted brand.

PS: Dua fragrances are known to need macaration, so if u get anything from Dua, let it macarate for 3 weeks.

* The perfume is called Late night venom by Dua fragrances *

This was the very first perfume that I fell in love with. My interest in perfumes started when I was very young. I would ask all the adults I knew about what they wore, I would look them up online, and I even had a little notebook in which I would write about the ones that seemed or sounded the most fascinating. Among all the perfumes I have tested or owned to this day, nothing ever came close to Midnight Poison.

In the late 2000s I had tested it in a store and was immediately spellbound by the scent, but I was too young for my mother to allow me to wear it, let alone buy it. By the time I was at a point where I could actually afford to buy it for myself it was long gone, discontinued for years.

Midnight Poison is sharp and dark but definitely not overbearing. Not really "sexy", but devilishly captivating. I get a good balance of citrus and patchouli with a hint of rose at the back, and I do think it verges on masculine. I also own Elle by YSL and I really do believe it's as close as you can get to MP, but Elle is fruitier in comparison and I certainly miss the darker profile of Midnight Poison.

I truly wish Dior would bring this back. I'm pretty sure there would be enough demand to justify a relaunch. I would absolutely buy multiple bottles for good measure, in a heartbeat. In the meantime, a girl can dream...

Edit: I caved and bought a bottle from Ebay. I'm happy to say that I don't regret it. It smells even more beautiful than I remembered.

It took no less than three of the best noses in France to create this perfume: François Demachy, Jacques Cavallier and Olivier Cresp.

It was the year 2007 and the house of Dior, headed by John Galliano at the time, decided to send these three great perfumers into darkness.
They, with a great collection of hits behind them, bravely entered the gloomy forest in search of the forbidden rose to create their darkest perfume to date, darker even than the first Poison from 1985, which was already quite a challenge.

The clock begins to chime, it is twelve midnight and magically, as if it were black magic, Midnight Poison is born.
This perfume has the darkest rose ever created, blended with notes of mysterious patchouli, amber, French vanilla, bergamot, and mandarin orange.

When you wear this perfume you feel like you have power, it's like a spell.
This perfume floats in the air and its poison permeates everything around you.

It has a longevity of about 8 hours and a very wide and powerful sillage its first hour, then it is flush with the skin although it is appreciated with each movement.
An absolutely incredible creation and unfortunately discontinued.

Lorax

I've had this one for a few years, and never reviewed it. :) It is an absolute classic, and I am thrilled to own this iconic beauty, but I also think that the hype is a bit exaggerated, and the prices got out of control. It is my favorite of all of the poisons. This is a deep, dark, mysterious and powerful scent, not really sexy so much as intoxicating. Its warm, witchy, and yet playful. Its mature, but maybe ageless. Its so well balanced, yet its patch, citrus, woods, rose and amber are all distinctively there when you look for them. Its patchouli is in a similar style to Vintage Coco Noir, if a comparison is needed. They are not similar overall, but the patchouli part is. The rose is deep and chewy, and I think the opening of Perles de Lalique has a similar quality, so they get compared, but after the opening, they are quite different. MP gets more spicy and sweet and has amazing longevity, and Perles is drier and fades much faster, and is less complex. YSL Elle is the most similar to MP, in my opinion, but its overall lighter, and doesnt last as well. Its arguably easier to wear though, so for the price, it s a reasonable alternative.

*loves_shoes*

I’ve already reviewed this, so I’m just adding that Eau My Soul by 4160 Tuesdays (UK Niche) really reminds me of Midnight Poison. So if you’re looking for a similar scent (it is not a dupe) then you could try that!

Deutsch100

The bottle is gorgeous, the scent quite good (many make it out to be some holy grail scent; it's not) and being that it is discontinued and has earned a cult status....prices are outrageous and beyond unwarranted. I like Midnight Poison a lot, but it is not worth anywhere near what bottles are going for...trust me!!

If you like or love this Midnight Poison, I recently got a bottle of Dua Brands Late Night Venom (handcrafted and bottled in Los Angeles). For about $50, Late Night Venom is easily 99% a copy of Midnight Poison. If you like Patchouli and some citrus, like Chanel Coco Noir...then you will probably love Midnight Poison or Late Night Venom. Another plus for the Dua Brands dupe....it lasts MUCH longer than Dior's Midnight Poison.

I have been wearing and collecting fragrances since I was a young kid/early teen....and if you are new to fragrances, sometimes the scents that people gush over, are not what they are made out to be. Some fragrances have been shamefully discontinued, and some have been discontinued rightfully ;) Some scents are easy blind buys, but when paying hundreds and hundreds of dollars for a blind buy....use caution and a little restraint. Trust me :)

prizcandy

I'm sad cause I'm forgetting what this smells like :(
I was young, I remember the ad on tv, the Muse song playing, I became obsessed. I smelled it for the first time a few months later and completely loved it. But again, I was so young, didn't have the money to buy Dior, no way. And when I did, this was discontinued.
Feeling nostalgic

Tavakkol1

I can easily give this one a -5 rating. whatever loves_shoes said is true and I had a 100% authentic of this witch perfume. It was awful and old just like jo Malon Bergamot oud, yuck!!! it gives an old cheapo feeling when applied and the awfull scent is so long lasting that you need a shower to get rid if it. and nose does not get used to it so you will constantly sense it. I absolutely cannot imagine someone liking this, wow!

sisina96rv

I have blind bought it because of Yana of The Scented (YT).
Well, it was a risk to me because I dislike Dior's Poisons. But I trust Yana's nose 😁
I really cannot describe how it smells..., because it is so well blended...When you look at the notes, it seems pretty basic, right?

Wrong.
This perfume is far from basic. It smells niche quality and is very elegant with a hint of darkness. This is something I would wear in a murky, rainy day, when I want to feel posh and comforted. I have just sniffed the blotter again. Yes, somewhere there might be some rose, some patchouli, it even gives you a slight shampoo clean feeling - and turns back to darkness. It is very, very well balanced 👍👏I didn't expect to be it this good 👀 I will probably get a backup bottle of this perfume.

ingeneuxo

-Hands down my favourite from this lineup.
-Chocolatey patchouli scent. Delicious!
-Sadly it's been discontinued and prices on evil bay are insane. (+)

*loves_shoes*

EDIT: I TAKE IT ALL BACK! I tried it again over a month later and that horrible sour overpowering initial note is nowhere near as off putting This is just a spicy patchouli, not too bad after all!

Full disclosure, I bought a decant to try, based on all the hype, so I’m obviously not 100% sure I got a genuine fragrance. I actually hope not, as I don’t like it at all. Although I have smelled genuine poison and this smells like a spicier version of that. This reminds me of going to alternative/metal clubs in the late noughties. I’m sure every girl had this on. It smells the way you’d want to smell if you want to smell ‘different’, but in reality leaves you smelling the same as every other ‘cool alternative’ person. The initial bergamot with mandarin is overpowering and vile, and it also smells peppery and spicy, and this takes too long to fade for my liking. The patchouli is too strong for much rose to get through, and it takes an awfully long time to dry down to something wearable on my skin. I agree with the person who said it smells medicinal, I get that. After the initial wave is over, it smells kind of sweet yet sour, and musty old lady-ish, with pepper and spice. It stays this way on me for hours. If a young girl wanted to dress as a witch for Halloween, this would be the perfect scent. Not sexy, alluring or nice to me, more the scent I’d wear to keep men away, if I want a hassle free night! I have no idea why people go crazy for this, maybe because it’s discontinued? If you like to smell nice then avoid. If you want attention for your fragrance then people may ask what this is, although I’d suspect it could be so they can avoid it….

Edit to add: It actually smells ok after 4+ hours (1 spray) but until then I can’t bear it.

fgamz

I just had to spray this perfume tonight. It's so perfect!!! This is like the most perfect fragrance ever created. I just can't believe it's been discontinued.

I have a 100ml perfume and save it for "special occasions" but I have had a really shitty week and you know what.. I want to smell intoxicating, sexy, wild and carefree! And this perfume is just that! I'm writing this review half drunk too but I feel it's fitting for what I'm feeling so deal with it.

missmaddiemac

I absolutely LOVE this fragrance! It's so alluring, dark, enchanting etc. and it's tied with Hypnotic Poison for being my favorite from the range. I don't know why they would ever discontinue this. It's a shame how insanely expensive this is on the resale market. I spend way (way) too much time checking eBay, Facebook groups, Mercari for this perfume and it's always about $200-$300+ for one bottle.

I get compliments whenever I wear this. I think it's fairly unisex. I'm not the biggest patchouli fan and this perfume is by far my absolute favorite patchouli-heavy scent. It's so well-blended. I think it's signature-scent worthy, and therefore fine to be worn year-round. I wore it mostly at night during the summer and it wasn't cloying. It does, however, seem to interact best with cold weather.

If you're selling a bottle in the US or Canada, please let me know.... I'm in love

Lemxx

Bring back this ULTIMATE GOTHIC QUEEN!!!

A.K.48004L

A midnight with a beautiful, moderate atmosphere, you are in a semi-isolated place enveloped in romance and poisonous seduction of a hypnotic nature and the smell of enchanting charm emanating from that bottle that resembles the color of the moonlit night, in short way the charm of the night gathered in this perfume, I prefer this perfume to be discontinued rather than to be here and refolmulated and loss it charmness unless if they will not change a thing, personally this is one of the most charming women perfumes I smelt, charming hypnotic and mysterious nature.

Martha236

If someone wants to sell one,pls message me

brandybasisty

Wow, this is something special, and I'm not even a patchouli fan! The menthol opening adds a touch of cold to the nose--not unlike a damp chill in the evening air that's starting to wilt a large bed of red roses. The same chill accompanies the soft, decadent decay-smell of early fall. That's this fragrance! Eva Green looks noir gorgeous in the campaign, but Midnight Poison smells as though she'd be romping around with abandon in said rose garden (instead of a nightclub) with a lover, or passionate enemy. There would be lots of drinking, and the makeup would get smudged/dress dirty. Midnight Poison is absolutely ravishing, earthy, and romantic. And if it didn't turn into a skin scent almost immediately on me, I might pay the hefty price tag for a bottle of ebay because it smells that good.

Midnight Poison is the work of three great perfumers (Francois Demachy, Olivier Cresp and Jacques Cavallier) and although it is not my favorite "Poison" it has something dark to it that attracts, it is a harsh fragrance with a very strong patchouli note that remains present throughout the life of the fragrance, at the opening we find a bitter bergamot accompanied by amber and a dense vanilla not as sweet and playful as it is usually found, which gives us a dense dark vibe, in its first moments have a certain camphory note and a little medicinal, the rose that contains this composition is not so perceptible but it is intuited that this there is a dark rose almost on the point of withering.
This fragrance has a lot of power and a slightly androgynous air so it can be used by a man perfectly, loved by many as it happens with certain discontinued ones, but it did not run with much luck in the market, it was quickly reformulated to even faster stop producing it, in my opinion it is a brave fragrance that does not pretend to please everyone and it has very good quality , that quality and daring that is a bit missed in the most recent releases of the house.

MimiS

It was my first proper perfume which I got for my 18th birthday from my best friend.
I felt amazing wearing it. Just mysterious and powerful. The smell was magical, the woody notes were like a summer evening in the forest. It is such a shame this has not make a come back since 2009.

pamplemousse2

Immediately when I apply this, my first thought was 'medicinal'. It also had a strong projection from a splash sample of about at least 6" from my skin. It's medicinal, spicy, and a bit masculine leaning. It actually does bring images back to me of being in a doctor's office. I believe camphor, even though that isn't listed, is giving it this smell. Either that, or patchouli that smells a lot like camphor or eucalyptus. It's like Vick's VapoRub on me.

10 minutes later and in the air it still smells medicinal, but directly on my skin, it's finally starting to smell a bit sweet and rosy. There's almost a sense of it being like Delina, but again, this is only on the skin and faint (I do see they have similar bergamot-rose-vanilla notes as well, but it's overpowered in this scent by the camphorous smell). It also very dry rather than juicy smelling.

30 minutes later and it's been linear and smells about the same, and still a large projection, though a bit softer. Which isn't bad at all, just noting.

I wouldn't exactly say this is 'midnight,' it's not very sultry or sexy or sumptuous, but it is unique and I suppose by that, a bit mysterious. I wouldn't say it's gothic or 'witchy' at all though. It does have a kind of darkness to it, but it's not exactly heavy (though does have some weight), and it has a mix of the cool camphor smell and warmth from some spice. I see this almost more as a men's scent as well, but obviously anyone can wear it. I would say this is more of a winter scent too.

I'll see how long this lasts.

1 hour later and it's suddenly lost a lot of strength, but it's still definitely there, it was just VERY strong at first. Now it's about 3" within from the skin. The vanilla has emerged a lot more on the skin and is a slightly dry and dusty vanilla, but warm and comforting. The camphor smell is still there, in the air but it's not as overpowering.

4 hours later and it's still projecting, though overall it's definitely a much lighter scent now. It smells like eucalyptus mostly at this point, but there is still a slight creaminess from the vanilla.

7 hours later and it's a faint woody scent. It's pretty masculine right now, ....but a very sexy man's cologne scent. There's still a a slight hint of the coolness/eucalyptus to it, but it's very warm and woody now. I would like to smell this on a man.

10 hours later and it's mostly gone. On one wrist, I can somewhat faintly smell the Vick's scent very lightly, but that's it.

Wow, 14 hours later and I can still faintly smell it. I have to go to bed at this point, but was impressed it lasted this long.

My partner (man) is wearing this today. I have 30ml of this left of 100ml which i treasure so much... it is the evening before Valentines so i treated myself and him. Also, what fun is it to have unicorns inner wardrobe without letting them come out and shine every now and again. I must say this is so ahead of its time. POAL, I'm looking at you... as much as I'm not a big fan of POAL, this, this!!!! Is a jammy patchouli rose worth of a midnight queen
Where POAL is cold and dead, this is awakening Snowhite after the kiss of her prince. Apple in hand, beautiful, still in the cold crystal casket but starting to breath, starting to fall in love. As the fragrance develops and mixes with body temperature it is like she lives, dances, and sings. I know one should not long lament discontinued beauties, but why oh why doesn't Dior relaunch this??? We will forgive their mistake. ESPECIALLY when POAL has already been able to pave the way. Relaunch it like it should be done. As a unisex fragrance.
Ah well. I know it won't happen since the Dior juice nowadays that fills a 100ml bottle might be 2eur worth to produce. Packaging included. This stuff, rhis was probably way to expensive for this "luxury house" to provide to their clients. I love you midnight poison.

Alexa09

After recently trying a bottle I’ve purchased with great difficulty and enjoying again the exquisite blend, I also tried to find a dupe. I ordered Belle de la Russie and tried many others, including Elle, and let me tell you wholeheartedly that Belle is by far the closest. I can say 95% which for me is a major statement. Also, at the price of it you don’t have anything to lose.

Fire_Rabbit

Midnight Poison is an absolute mystery to me. I have never experienced it. I wish I could get my hands on a bottle. They are ridiculously expensive on eBay.

danielle.crump

Dua fragrances has a dupe for the first formulation of this fragrance. Just ordered mine...check it out!

massimilianoinquieto

FloridianG

A few months ago I splashed out and bought a bottle of Dior Midnight poison for a huge price increase. A scent from my past I love and miss. It makes me so sad it was discontinued.

At first spritz I immediately notice this little buzz of almost medicinal spice which then gives way to the creamy vanilla hugging the patchouli notes. On my skin it becomes warm, comforting.. very creamy, rich and powdery. I feel like this truly deserved the title ‘poison’ out of the others in the range.

To me this is an indulgent day time scent for cold winter days and a perfectly sexy night time scent. It’s not grounbreakingly unique as there are many things about how it ages on skin that do smell familiar to other sweet oriental fragrances but to me it is perfection.

Due to the review on fragrantica I decided to purchase YSL Elle as a dupe I can have access to this beautiful scent all the time and can save this bottle for special occasions. For me it is almost identical (a 95% match. The spicy, medicinal like note missing from the very opening of Elle which to me prevents it being a complete dupe. However after 5-10minutes with a spritz on each wrist they smell identical on my skin. On clothes that 5% difference remains.)

Aeris

I loved this scent and it’s beautiful bottle. It’s like there’s an unspoken law of the universe that the more I fall in love with a scent, the more likely it is to be taken away.
There was a hard to describe special energy this gave off. Even though my Coco Noir by Chanel has very similar notes, and is technically a more well made scent on paper, it doesn’t give off the same vibe I crave from Midnight Poison. But Coco Noir is as close as you’re going to get to achieving that gothic dark rose with patchouli, with a slight hint of citrus in the top notes.

Aliciaenelespejo

The fact that this perfume has been (and continues to be) discontinued, is enough proof that general public noses (and their attached wallets) have seriously lost their way.
There are fragrances, by the million, but very few actually transform oneself by wearing them. This is one of the few. You get as vampired as you can get.
A self empowerment scent.

derliesl

People, I found a way to duplicated this beautiful fragrance!
***Layer Dior addict with TF white patchouli***
The combination smells almost exactly the same, the only difference is that you will get white flowers in it. Highly recommended!

Ms. Jules

I had to custom blend mini sample fragrances from the Demeter Fragrance collection to mimic a scent close to this. Combining Rose, Dirt, Patchouli,Sandalwood, Bergamot,Vanilla, Amber...a decent knock off, but still not the quality of Dior. Just bring this perfume back Dior, pretty please?

zahraghobari

Got a pre reformulation bottle today and to be honest I’m not impressed. I was expecting much more. What I’m smelling is kinda sour like a mix of patchouli and citruses, and then a little bit of rose added in the mid notes. Not that it’s bad but I just don’t get the hype over it. I much prefer ysl Elle which I also own. Elle is nicer, more feminine and modern smelling which I believe is due to the peppery note and the two are similar in performance. Don’t cry over missing on this one.

tamahome

Bought the reformulated version (2012 I think) and the patchouli really is the front and center of this perfume. I agree with the previous review that it may have been groundbreaking when it was first introduced to the world but now it really does smell like another patchouli scent. It really is seductive and a bit masculine but now even H&M has a perfume close to this one.

Veracruz

Midnight Poison- mysterious, seductive, sensual, alluring, edgy and a bit dangerous. The fragrance of a true femme fatale, a black rose- she might make love to you or she might poison you, maybe both, you’re not sure and that is precisely what’s attractive about her. As I was going thru my collection I sprayed this one on my wrist and neck, a couple minuets later my husband says “what is that? it’s sexy! now that is real perfume, not that toilet spray potpourri crap” He thinks everything smells like potpourri lol I’ve come to realize my husband prefers the sultry fragrances with depth and I’m glad he does bc Midnight Poison has one of the best drydowns ever! They just don’t make them like this anymore sadly, this beauty still has a backbone. It seems like many perfumes today lack that alluring, confident, unique vibe. I feel very lucky to have a couple backups of this baby, I will appreciate it and treasure it like a dying art in perfumery.

Edit- I’m letting go of one of my backups. I’ll probably never get to it since I have so much perfume. I’d rather someone enjoy it than have it sitting risking going bad. It’s a brand new sealed 3.4oz. if anyone is interested please contact me!

V_ross

I don't find this perfume enchanting. I mean it's okay but it doesn't last that long atleast on my skin. It's too light for my liking and it smells pretty masculine. I gave it to my husband since he liked how it smells on him.

SailorV

I have to kind of agree with the latest underwhelmed reviews. Not that I dislike Midnight Poison, I actually like it a lot! I just don't think it's special enough to weed through sketchy ebay deals to get an overpriced used bottle that could be a fake, as Dior is one of the most faked perfume houses out there. If it was still widely available and priced like the other Poisons, or if I got it as a gift, I would still happily use it, I just don't think it's worth the hype.

In the end, this is just a beautiful rose-patch fragrance, and there are plenty of those. In this one, the patchouli is earthy, but clean, and the rose is mainly dark, not jammy or soapy. The bergamot adds a pretty noticeable sour edge which could have gone wrong, but is nice to my nose. Amber and vanilla add the needed depth and a slight sweetness. To me it's not quite the intense bomb of an mysterious and witchy elixir that some reviews make it out to be, more of a 'basic notes done right' kind of elegant scent.

Midnight Poison is often compared to YSL Elle, which I have, and I don't think they're that similar. Elle is fresher, lighter and more sporty-chic while MP is darker and has more heft to it. I have also tried Novaya Zarya La Belle de Russie, which is said to be another MP dupe, but that one is warmer, sweeter and fruitier in comparison. There is no exact replacement for MP, but there are many members of the rosy patch family which MP belongs to.

seamagik

I get the great things people are saying about Midnight Poison, but I'm not feeling it. It just doesn't move me. I don't hate it, but it would make no difference if I didn't have it. The only reason I'm keeping my bottle is because it's rare and not cheap. I'm not ready to let it go just yet. I like the idea of it: patchouli! rose! amber! But it just falls flat to my nose.

Give me some vintage Poison or Hypnotic Poison. MP is not exciting! It's like a boring suitor who is marriage material, what I want is a lover that's good experienced company.

Violinplayah

I found lotion on fragrancenet and took a chance. It came, cellophane scotch taped and stained on the bottom of the box so my hopes weren’t high but luckily the fragrance is not spoiled. It’s light soft cozy and lady like. My husband complimented me so it must project well, even for a lotion. It’s nice and I’m glad I finally got a sniff but I won’t be tearing out my hair that I don’t have a bottle of edp. Nice if you can find it, but don’t lose any sleep if you can’t!

Neosmiaphyte

I'm sure she was groundbreakingly beautiful when she debuted, and to those who met her then she will always be adored and admired. Unfortunately, to those who are just now introduced she is just another rather plain, generic patchouli and they are left to wonder just what all the fuss was about.

OmarAladdin

I didn’t like this when I blind bought it couple of years ago based on reviews and discontinuation, I hated it.
But now that I revisited it, I am super glad I didn’t let go of it back then.
Very unique
Some note here reminds me of La Dolce Vita

It’s a hidden, lost gem. Sadly.

bruby15

This was a masterpiece, I have no idea why was discontinued. I got it as a birthday present from a friend and I adored it. I still have the empty bottle and give it a sniff from time to time. This perfume was really magic.
Made me feel beautiful and special every time I wore it.

Tzarina

Who was the idiot who decided to discontinue this masterpiece? I will not stop petitioning for this sensation to come back.

The closest are Perles de Lalique and Elle by YSL. Perles has a more peppery finish, whereas Elle is a fruitier version of Midnight Poison.

It's no wonder that both Elle and Midnight Poison were designed by Jacques Cavallier and Olivier Cresp, and both were launched in 2007. Still waiting!

thegreekone

Amazing fragrance.A dirty rose note makes it unique, while it remains strong and dynamic.A scent that commands attention.I am a man and i would wear it easily since it hasn't any clear feminine note.I would say it's a unisex dark and bewitching fragrance. So sad Dior stop making this masterpiece.

Ps, midnight posion lovers,YSL elle is back in production and it's very close.

JackieM

@ciot @evelinemarie.

FYI, that batch code algorithm assumes a loop of every ten years, meaning 2007 and 2017 might have the same code, in theory. However Midnight Poison was discontinued long before 2017, so that code there is assigned to 2007, the year Midnight Poison came out, and in fact the year in which most bottles that are still out there were manufactured. A brief reformulation I believe came out some time between 2009-2011, however the appearance of the bottle is different, as font is gold and size of the words assigned a different scale.

ciot

whas it not yet already discontinud at 2017?

eveline marie

Ciot, here is what I found, I hope it helps:
Batch code 7M01
INFORMATION OBTAINED FROM THE BATCH CODE
Production date 2017-12
Age 2 years 2 months 12 days
Shelf life 3 (skin care) to 5 years (perfumes and makeup)
Notes the codes are repeated every 10 years

ciot

anyone know when it did discontinue ? and the batch code from this perfume

7M01 from what year it is ?

This is poor thing Cinderella turns into a slob girl at midnight, and we have at midnight all only begins. And midnight for us can come and at 6 pm, can't it? Especially if the Prince requires a date :)
The aroma is thick, evening, seductive, bitterish, rich in shades & insanely persistent. On the body it heard all day, it stays on clothes until are washed, and on the furs he seems to have fixed forever.
The fragrance is demanding to the weareress : if there is no time for yourself, or just have not mood, then take a different perfume. And "Midnight Poison " will not be offended by you.

It is ideal for going to the theater, for a romantic dinner by candlelight, as well as for the self-feeling yourself of desirable, mysterious, allpower in a word.

Thank you for reading this!
:)

This is the stuff of legends in perfume. I am shocked at how quickly it was discontinued. I bought a bottle when it came out in 2007. The interesting thing is that it was only available at certain retailers (at least here in Canada). Maybe if it had a wider release it would have sold more? Lets be real its all about sales.

Also certain perfumes tend to be misunderstood, and revered after they are discontinued. That may be the case here too. Either way, this is an amazing perfume. It has monster sillage and lasting power. It leaves a trail. It has a unique punch of patchouli, rose, vanilla, and amber. It's not for everyone, I can see why it's polarizing in a way. I picked up another bottle luckily and I am using it sparingly as it is so expensive online.

amariahb

This perfume is one of the most amazing perfumes I have in my collection. It has lasted on my skin for over 24 hours. I smelled all of these notes the citrus notes of mandarin and bergamot, rose and patchouli, amber and French vanilla in the base. It's mysterious, interesting, lingers and magical. There is no fragrance quite like it.

Considering I have over 400 perfumes, this is in my top 7. I can still smell rose, vanilla, amber and patchouli after the 25 hours mark on my skin. It is a truly remarkable fragrance. I have the body cream as well. If I use it then with the perfume I would have another twelve hours of fragrance. It does smell sometimes similar to Dior original Addict. But this one I feel is more Gothic for me. I think the Black Coco Noir Chanel bottle was trying to follow this remarkable fragrance. But for me, it fails. From Dior MP is an outstanding perfume on the correct person. A little goes a long way. I only sprayed twice. Its longevity is exceptional. Excellent quality, packaging, bottle, and character which is unisex and a signature fragrance.

Nataliaviladitrapani

I came to this wonder because there is a girl in my city that sells vintage perfumes. Obviously first I read the reviews and I became a "mental aroma"
I just received it because I couldn't resist the wonders I read of it.
I am 36 years old, I am changing my tastes in terms of fragrances and this perfume evokes several memories and sensations.
It reminds me of a couple of dusty years, that have had a romantic but at the same time sneaky night in which the perfume of both, as their souls, have merged to perfection. At this moment they are entering the cinema by the hand, she blushed but not ashamed, but because her blood has run huge amounts of endorphins, adrenaline and her skin has been kissed inexhaustibly by that boy for hours. The boy takes her with an indescribable male energy and treats her like the lady she is. I see them looking at each other in love and with passion, they kiss and tell each other secrets in their ears ... I can feel the perfume aroma of both mixed with hormones, happiness, party, and the simplicity of love.
That evokes this perfume.
It is undoubtedly unisex, exotic, mysterious, daring and timeless.
I imagine using it on winter night with a dark dress and infinite heels.
It is a perfume so peculiar that it would be ruined if it were used very often.

savacsaian

Ah! Midnight Poison. My first perfume.

This scent has so much magic to it. My bottle is very old, so the vanillin jumps straight at me.

The opening consists of sweet orange patchouli that merges into a huge rose. There is a woodsy resinous amber developing right after.

See, this scent isn't really the most complex thing out there, yet this scent is worthy of so much literature. It's dark, bold, intrepid, mysterious. It makes all wearers feel a certain way, it takes us all noses somewhere romantic yet troubled.

The longevity and sillage of this are stellar. Will forever remain a favorite of mine.

irenad87

If MP was a movie character... it would be a sexy, badass, she villain that you end up rooting for.(a female version of Loki from the Avengers if you will, or Black Widow before she turned good lol). this is not for the faint hearted. This is potent ☠

I'm surprised I like it so much since I usually go for softer skin scents, but there is just something about it that I can't resist.

Please bring it back❤

Pandarapt

Cinderella? As in her hairy-wart stepmother impersonating her and trying to deceive a fairy godmother who has joined the dark side and is now tinkering with some dark arts book twisting the spells into turning pumpkins in hollowed bergamots covered with vines of camphoric patchouli leaves, the soft baby blue puffed peplum gown into a black gothic McQueen dress with frayed edges emblazoned with a black rose detail - Cinderella.

A whiff of petroleum and myrrh covers the spliced patchouli and rose creature, together with the freshness of bergamot is like stepping into the cold witching hour, triggers stories that can only be told when the night is blurred by fog. This is what happens when Perrault slips into darker Dickensian territory and the victorian villain escapes the clutches of justice.

*Sooo not "For Women" exclusively. It almost beggars belief how this wasn't marketed at least as an unisex fragrance. Makes you take all sorts of considerations about how meaningless gender marketing in fragrance is.

I love Midnight Poison. It's dark and charming. It smells a bit sweet for me because I usually use and love salty fragrances but this is very good, too!

natalijaostojic

It's called love at first sight, one of my favorite perfumes, special, confident, magical, mysterious, untouchable and unforgettable.

(You can skip the backstory and jump to the review directly).

A little bit of background before I start: I just knew midnight poison from the advertisement video and all the fuss in the fragrance community, but I had never smelled the juice up until today. I've tried all Poison versions (besides Tendre) and hate them all, so I never really paid attention to this one until last week, when I just happened to see an ad on the website where I normally buy perfume for a full 50 ml 2007 bottle for 50€, so I jumped to contact the seller because I could always resell it for double the price I paid in case I didn't like it. I also decided to do my homework well and tried Elle by YSL to see if I'd like this, and though Elle was OK, it didn't particularly appeal to me, as it was too fruitchouli for my taste.
Fast forward 3 days later and I meet this lovely old lady at a park, who told me how her husband bought the perfume for her but she didn't like it, so she kept it in a box and forgot about it for 12 years. After checking the bottle was authentic I get on the train and spray it on my wrist to smell why someone would pay 200€ for a discontinued perfume. Long story short: though I wouldn't pay as much, I understand the appeal.

So now, to the review: MP took a couple of minutes to project, even if it's 24ºC now. It opens on my skin as bergamot candy, very sweet and citrusy, but quickly develops into a very deep rose-patchouli, similar to Chanel Coco Noir, but more straightforward without all the other notes. The base notes pop up about 20 minutes in. The beauty of this perfume, though, is that all the notes have been popping in and out of my nose for the last 3 h: sometimes it's rose-patchouli, others it's mandarine-amber, then it's vanilla-patchouli, then all at the same time... on and on. It shows the quality and the possibility to do a really good frag with very few ingredients if you mix it well. I'd have to try it in the long run, but so far the projection is crazy (a quarter spray on my wrist and is overpowering 2 sprays of Alien on my neck) and it doesn't seem to be going anywhere after 3 h.

I'd say it's a strong fragrance, not excessively dark or sexy, but beautiful, mysterious and interesting (like Eva Green herself in Casino Royale), most suitable for autumn-spring nights but wearable all-year-round, maybe with the exception of hot humid places. I'm so glad that I jumped to buy this because, after years of waiting, I finally found my Poison.

Kurioko

Very unique and intriguing juice, there’s nothing alike on the market these days! It’s just not my cup of tea. If someone is interested, please MP

redskyatnight

Finally got my hands on MP to see what all the fuss was about. Airy rose, crisp berries, and inoffensive patchouli. It's actually quite light and floral, along the lines of Flowerbomb, to me. I had read that it's a dark, gothic scent but I don't really get that impression. In the end, it's a great fruitchouli. I'd say it's one of the best, this one being a light, tart, non-sweet fruitchouli while Angel is the prime example of a heavy-sweet fruitchouli. I'm wearing it in summer and it's wonderful. I can't imagine it being substantial enough for winter, but will try it out then as maybe the amber will get a chance to shine. I enjoy it enough to keep it and wear it, but will not feel the need to seek out a replacement or backup bottle once it gets low.

Rick58Beth62

Ahhhh, my signature scent. This fragrance didn’t merely edge out my beloved Shalimar, it hip checked it like a pro hockey player. I still love Shalimar, Opium, 1000 and Joy but when my thoughts turn towards my bedroom, Midnight Poison is my choice.

Sabretoothkitten

Heady and intoxicating patchouli with berries. Slightly gourmand. Id wear this in warm weather, it just seems right. Not shy and wants to be noticed.
Great longevity. So sad this is not in production. Beautiful bottle.
Phobe25, so fortunate for you! I'm glad you will enjoy this great scent.

phoebe25

I know this elderly lady, through Facebook, and she knows how much I love parfume.

She wrote to me, that she had a Poison from Dior, she was selling, and if I was interested in buying it.

I thought she ment "The Poison," parfume, and said that I would like to buy it, but money is a little tight this month, so I would have to decline.

She said that she had been cleaning out her parfumes and just wanted to get rid of them, so if I paid her 10$, so she could sent it to me, that would be enough. She wrote to me, that she had put a few others in the package.

Boy was I in for a surprise. She had put a Hugo Boss, two Chloé parfumes, a Cacharel, a Balenciaga.....and this gem.

It is an all most full 30ml bottle, and I´m in heaven. What a gem. Absolutely stunning. Very sexy, confident and perfect for winter.

I wrote to her a huge thank you, and if she was sure she didn´t wanted more, but she said she was glad that the gem went to someone who appreciate this beauty.

minizelda

Let me go back a little...

I found mine last winter at a local drugstore in Canada, for only $79,99 in SALE. After hearing all about it online, I jumped on it knowing its value (And at the time I didn't know what it smelled like at all, there was no tester either). I hurried in my car, opened the box and.....oh my god. First of all this bottle is one of the prettiest shades of blue I've ever seen. It's mysterious and deep, just like this fragrance. Masculine, elegant, confident, sexy, intoxicating and daring. That's Midnight Poison to me.

After a few months of using this mesmerizing beauty, I notice more than half of my 50ML bottle is gone. So today I go back to that same drugstore I went last winter, hoping and praying there would be one left. There was. And it was now $50 in sale. My nose decided for me and before I knew it, I had a brand new bottle of Midnight Poison in my backpack, ready to take me away in its deep burn blue.

Catsylvania

How much I adore this perfume. What a shame it's been discontinued!

My very first bottle I've purchased (and went through) back in 2007 when it was released, and being 13 years of age back then, it must've looked funny for a young schoolgirl to use such a sophisticated perfume. The version I'm reviewing now is a 2008 miniature I still have from that time.

After a decade, the content of the bottle has definitely matured and became more potent so I need to use very little in order for the scent trail to radiate across the whole room. This fragrance surely makes a grand entrance.

It's a truly enchanting, witchy, combination of notes that come off as mostly patchouli and rose on me. These days apart from very special occasions I mainly use Midnight Poison as my Halloween scent where my almost traditional witch costume is never authentic without this scent. To me, it's a magic potion that makes everyone intrigued by your presence, and I never went unnoticed when wearing it.

The longevity and silage are marvelous. A perfection for late night special occasions. For those of you who wish to try this beauty without necessarily spending a fortune to get a bottle from Ebay, you might want to look into Elle by YSL, and Gucci by Gucci as those two seemed to have similar things to Midnight Poison.

buonobi

I love this fragrance on my BFF. Feel so sexy and chic.
Shame it was discontinued.

derliesl

I found a sample about a year ago. The shop didn't want to sell the bottle :( I almost begged for it.

Anyway, I managed to obtain 2 samples of 5ml, which I kept safe for special days.

The scent is very red fruit like, blackberry/bramble. It smells like a chique dessert. Very long lasting, especially on fabric (scarves, sleeves). I really wish it was continued.

YSL Elle smells very different, midnight poison is much more elegant, Elle smells like candy.

Aliciaenelespejo

Oh, please! bring this back! There is nothing alike...

I have a reformulated 100ml bottle (gold letters). It is true that is a lot sweeter and weaker than the original formula (and I loathe Dior for doing such a thing to this masterpiece) but despite this it is still the most unique, dark, sexy smell. I love that camphor note it has in the opening.

Midnight poison was my signature fragrance.. want it back:(

I just realized that Dior killed all of John Galliano's stuff from the best version of Miss Dior Cherie to Midnight Poison. This makes me so sad because they were Dior's best scents.

To me a perfume is always bringing back memories., “la recherche du temps perdu”.
This one.... is the one. I still have half of my precious original bottle from 2007 release.
It was a blind buy, at that time I used to wear Dior Addict 2002 version. Another great love affair.... but this one was the perfection.... my best blind buy ever. And it has been hugging me for a whole year, the best in my life: when my son was born.
The rose here is so deep, smoky and elegant. This is uniqueness. This is really something timeless that you cannot forget. This is something that Dior should consider to bring back without changing its own original bouquet and bottle. This is beauty.

Bring MP back! NOW!!!!!!

This is Miss Dior 2012 all grown up with a power punch of smooth patchouli and glamorous amber. The rose and citrus notes also stand out and all notes work together in harmony. Please note, This I am not saying Midnight Poison and MD 2012 are the same but this definitely could have been called Midnight Miss Dior and no one would have protested. Shame it was discontinued.

Dior, instead of launching generic Joysss, bring the maison masterpieces back...Midnight Poison relaunch in 2019 please!

I had such an intense yet short-lived love with Midnight Poison! I loved it from the first sniff: it was like a clean flowery coctail with bergamot and patchouli. Very suitable for evenings/nights and the autumn/winter season. Strong and intoxicating, not a work or official scent. I would mostly wear it to nights out and parties. One of my friends remarked that to her it smelled mostly like mint and citrus, which I never understood as on me it was all about the bergamot-rose-patchouli. A very deep, dark, sexy fragrance with great longevity and sillage.

2SEXY4THISTOWN

This is an absolute killer. I LOVE IT. It reminds me of a very expensive-smelling fine baby powder. I get lots of patchouli and amber on my skin, but not much of anything else for some reason. I can barely notice the orange. It lasts 12 hours (I wore it to my religious services on Tuesday night and woke up still smelling it.). It was made for cold nights. I didn't want to cover up the wonderful scent with my scarf although it was cold. 10/10. LOVELY and SEXY.

I'm so glad I bought a genuine sample that will last me a very long time. And by the way, I didn't feel weird wearing this at all. Although it's marketed as a women's perfume, I don't think I smelt feminine. It wore very well on my skin.

minizelda

A precious dark Sapphire gem!

To my nose, MP is a very masculine and bewitching scent. Sexy and classy, reminds me of Coco Noir a lot. It's not as juvenile as PG and neither a gourmand like HP. It's SO different from the others. Intriguing and deep. You want to know more, there's always a new side when you smell it. It's a special fragrance. I was extremely lucky to find it at a store in sale at 79$ for a 50mL.

Update: The dry-down is THE best part about this fragrance. It completely shifted my vibe from a girl to a woman. I said it was masculine before but it takes the cake from now. It's empowering and I felt like I could seduce and bewitch anyone I passed by. I'm kind of sad that it's not stronger and it takes a while to get there, but I guess this is why it's so special. I appreciate every second of it and I envy people who will be in my sillage zone....

This fragrance works best during this season in the cold...when I first got midnight poison i didn't know what to think of her because she was so different..she is medicinal and i had never smelled that before in a fragrance and i'm a true gourmand lover...but i remember going out for a walk and as i was walking i smelled the most lovely vanilla i have ever smelled and it intertwined with the vanilla..this perfume showed its true colors in the cold season..i couldn't stop smelling it and it lingered on me for hours...i was so sold on it i bought another one..they are one of my favorite blue bottles...i don't think this fragrance is for everyone but if you give it time i do believe it will grow on you because the vanilla is exquisite and when the rose shines with the vanilla in the mids its gorgeous..when you first spray it you smell the fresh citrus top notes with the eucalyptus and vanilla..and the patchouli is very well blended in this one but this is a bold fragrance to say the least..this is for the daring and not mainstream...but i've always liked a challenge...I am saddened Dior discontinued this one right when I discovered it...treasure your Poisons because they were created during times when fragrance truly had way more value in their bottles and juice and quality in advertising..there was something truly different during the 80's & 90's in comparison to what you see now and the quality is lacking in longevity and sillage as i'm use to and like ...I can't connect with the Poison girl logo advertised today which i think its a bit gaudy because i'm a Woman not a girl and that's not how i see myself when i wear this or want to connect it to but this could always change with Dior..they may change again and come back to the deep mysterious woman with class who stands out...someone confidant and daring..and just don't care what people think...she just knows when she wears it it makes her feel beautiful wherever she goes..What else can anyone ever hope for..to feel and be your true self..

thistle

I bought this perfume back in 2014 as a gift to myself for having started a new job. It's still 3/4 full and I hide it in the dark. The day I run out will be a very sad one indeed. It's the most exquisite perfume I have ever experienced - the perfect meld of patchouli and almond. Bittersweet and dark.

Midnight poison....

I've owned this for two years, I've even favourably reviewed it b4.
Recently I've started picking it up again after a 2 year love of all things Chanel ( and ignoring rest of my little collection tut tut .)
Omg this is some incredible juice !!!
I got in the lift in my block as some fella got out, I had sprayed midnight maybe an hour b4. I thought wow I must ask that fella what he is wearing, I recognize that lovely scent.
It was only when I'd been shops and got back in the lift that I thought , that scent is still here must be strong, lovely though... Suddenly I realized it was me !
The sweet beautiful medley of notes was radiating from
My neck !
MP is so dence, so incredibly thick in the air , jammy and overwhelming in a good way, Now this is when Dior cracked a good fragrance ! Luxury , pure unadulterated lux ! Quality ingredients !complex and marvelous, perfect on a cold rainy night, definitely the most Syrupy fragrance I own , the projection is astronomical.
This perfume is such a temptress , a vixen , just as amazing as her mother original poison , maybe better !!
Thick sweet woods , dripping in a amber and spicy dark rose , the patchouli is other worldly, not hippy patch but deep sexy and velvety.... Boy oh boy , if you like me thought yes it's nice but maybe I like other perfumes more , then go right now , stop , go get your dusty bottle and give this sassy girl some air ! One or two sprays is easily enough , prepare for a revelation !! :)

Dior let this one go , do what ?? Why ??
Never will I understand that lunatic decision !
This scent is magical.

A well deserved 10/10

It is beyond me how this marvel of a fragrance could be discontinued. It was probably released at the wrong time, as nowadays this type of Rose fragrances is en vogue. But back in 2007, before the "Rose/Oud" wave swept through the fragrance industry, the mainstream market was a confused mess. Going through the scents released in said year, most aren't even available anymore, which tells us that no one knew what they were doing, no real trend is discernible, and everyone just threw out something in hopes it will find some sort of success. The most succesful launch of 2007 is, without a doubt, Chloé Eau de Parfum. A soft & clean Rose with a warm and enveloping feeling, an instant success and going strong even today, 11 years later. Despite also being a Rose fragrance, Midnight Poison is remembered as a failure, unavailable, while Chloé excelled. Why?

As confused as the 2007 fragrance market was, and as diverse as the many releases were, perfumes who made a statement weren't welcome. No matter if Chloé, Daisy or L'Instant Magic, 2007 perfumes were rather polite and nice. Of course that kind of approach is understandable, when everyone is uncertain of what to do, just release a quiet little something and test the waters. I kind of understand that everyone was confused after Tom Ford basically nuked the industry with Black Orchid a year prior, but I will mention this one later. Amidst all the pale scented waters, there was Dior, still full of courage, creativity and life 11 years ago, and they tried a different approach:

Enter Midnight Poison. A dark potion of almost black Roses and earthy-bitter Patchouli. Spicy, sexy, intriguing. Short, a true statement of a fragrance. The sultry accord of Rose & Patchouli seemed exotic and new, a semi chypre structure made the fragrance reminiscent of glorious fragrances of the past. Which means, Midnight Poison was a modern-but-nostalgic fragrance. And I am sure this is part of its problem. No softness, no sweetness. Unapologetic and fierce darkness, reminiscent of "grandmas" perfumes. While there is no discernible Oakmoss in Midnight Poison, it nonetheless smelled extremely mature and chypre like. In 2007, I was in love with the new, blue Poison. But I was the only one, it seemed. No matter who I introduced the fragrance to, they all made a grimace upon smelling the new Dior, and told me things like: "Ugh, this smells like an old basement!", or "This smells like the old Rose scented soap my grandma uses...". A death sentence for a perfume. Roses were only liked if put in a clean context, like Chloé. Dior made the wrong kind of statement at the wrong time! Tom Ford showed the world how to put out a statement of a fragrance one year prior in 2006, when he launched Black Orchid. That one was like a cosmic explosion, and changed the market. Too bad in 2007, the only courrageous mainstream effort, namely Midnight Poison, was so badly received.

Why do I believe Midnight Poison was far ahead of its time? Look at fragrances nowadays. In 2009, something happened that changed perfumes forever: The Oud wave came! And with it, fierce fragrances of black Rose petals, brooding Patchouli leaves and sinister spice & wood accords became all the rage. Now, almost 10 years later, we still find these type of fragrances, but whereas they were exclusive to niche perfumery before, now we find such scents well received by the mainstream public as well. If Dior had the courage to relaunch Midnight Poison today, the chances are good it would become an instant success, being a dark, spicy & woody Rose. But who am I to know stuff like this? Dior entirely lost any type of creativity and courage when Monsieur Demachy took over, with his endless reformulations (destroying beloved classics), relaunches (a new Miss Dior each year, but with the same packaging, confusing everyone) and flankers (Miss Dior Absolutely Blooming Bouquet Eau Fraîche L'Eau de Toilette Légère in Joy Full Bloom... blah blah blah), annoying the entire fragrance community for years now. Dior is dead, too bad!

As Suzanne s said about oil perfumery, its true about the MP dupe but you have to put ca dot before oil perfumery or you get taken to a defunct website that the company hasn't taken down and it makes people think
the company no longer exists which is not the case.

I am going to try their dupe of MP because the original is all but impossible to find and the asking prices are stratospheric.

SuzanneS

I will say as a second review to this is ...
Its magical in very cold weather.

If you are looking for a affordable dupe, Oil Perfumery has one for under $15. Hope that helps some enthusiasts.

Bokonon 12, I am one of the followers of this page and eternal lover of Midnight Poison. Your love of this intriguing lady has been heard. There is no doubt that this is the top Patchouli-Rose bomb of all Patchouli-Rose bombs.

My love for her started because I had a friend buy her when she first came out. I remember my BFF going back and forth about her purchase wondering if it was too masculine. I thought it was stunning and...yes...unisex... but more on the feminine side IMO. I ending up buying my bestie's bottle from her because MP sat for years on her vanity untouched. Because let's put this frankly: Midnight Poison is NOT for the faint of heart.

This is not the Angel-type of Patchouli. While Angel is a sweet, playful and dramatic Patchouli this one is mature, thick, edgy and mysterious. She is a lady and she leaves something to the imagination. The Rose is also dark, dank and mysterious. Then there is the wonderfully balsamic smelling Amber. I love the way this Amber wears. It gets heated up and va-va-va-voom! Nothing is understated here.

Midnight Poison is the lady with the deep voice, ample bosoms and broad hips that wears all black Chanel with Kasmiri Sapphires set in 20K Gold. I am seeing someone like Scarlett Johansson or Meryl Streep. No one tells a woman like that what to do. She is a Rubenesque masterpiece. Lush, desirable and hauntingly beautiful. And she is also almost unobtainable.

I hope that everyone gets a chance to at least test this leading lady. A definite 10++++

Just used my last spray. My heart is sinking, possible existential crisis ahead. I still haven't found a replacement and I am too nervous to buy on eBay bc I have read a lot of stories of people receiving fakes.

giuseppe98gp83

Ladies and gentlemen, I present you wonderfully. The feminine Dior perfume par excellence. Scream packaging. If a goddess wore a perfume, this would be her. Being unobtainable makes it even more special and refined. I consider myself lucky. I will give it to the girl I love and I'm sure she will like it madly. One color: Sapphire. A state of mind: Intriguing. An imaginary celebrity: Maleficent.
Rating: 10/10.

I don't have many perfume collection. I received this as a gift. As it name suggests, it's suitable for midnight romance. Very seductive, sexy, intense and really poisoning your mind in a good way. Make me very confident on that very special occasions. Totally love it. But it really reminds me of Dunhill London on my hubby. Similar ingredients; patchouli, vanilla & rose.

Ms Floral Turbo

This is my favourite Dior fragrance. Love it!
Floral and slightly sweet/woody, the dry-down gets even better.
It lasts a long time - at least 12 hours, yet is not overpowering.
I am so disappointed that it has been discontinued, so probably will only be able to buy on decant now.
Recommended for any female of any age, and it is suitable really for any season.

vintagelover

This is a scent that could be deemed quite masculine. Poison pour Homme! That being said I have always enjoyed it since it came out. Totally bizarre but it makes me think of petrol/gasoline. It does not smell of petrol but it smells high octane if that makes sense. Loud and fast paced. In your face. I will treasure my bottle even though I understand why it was discontinued.

Gemsense

It's one of those calgon body sprays you see at walgreens. Seriously, it's the exact same. I just can't remember the calgon versions name but if you look you'll find it. It's blue too and I think the name has midnight in it. It's the exact same. I knew I had smelled this before and I didn't like the manly scent then either.

Gemsense

I was so excited to get this! I bought it blind buy online. I just got it, I put it on and it smells like a man. It's been 20 minutes and it's the same sharp manly smell. I just don't smell anything feminine about this at all. No vanilla, no sweetness, it reminds me of a cologne I once smelled, a men's cologne. I still smell like a man. I keep sniffing it to see if it's turned into something else but it's still the sharp masculine cool water cologne and something else too that I can't put my finger on. I hope it's better in cooler weather and has some feminine life to it in a different season but I'll probably be spraying this on my husband.

reglisss34

The only one not to be discontinued..alas ..it has been done ! A perfume ahead of its time ? Too classy ..too dark ...I will never why, but it did not sell well and above all quickly .
Dior Perfume had a real gem...but they let it go .

Just finished my last drop of Midnight Poison. Mixing Elle and Mademoiselle intense help a little. Are there any better dupes out there? sigh...

DKNY Be Delicious Night... I'm intrigued to know why no one has spotted the fact that it is *so* similar to Dior Midnight Poison? Made in the same year and very reflective of these feminine patchouli-based fragrances that were so popularly made circa 2007.

I've smelt the usual suspects that fans of this perfume call 'dupes', 'great alternatives' or 'replacements' and here's what I think...

YSL 'Elle'
Similarity rating: 8/10
Differences: Huge hit of pink pepper on top that fades, lack of vanilla presence on the bottom. More floral and daytime-friendly and more 'lovely' than a deep, nightime, man-eatingly seductive fragrance.

DKNY 'Be Delicious Night'
Similarity rating: 7/10
Stronger resemblance than any of the below replacements IMO. Differences: Like 'Elle' there is a lack of vanilla presence. But... the main showstopper here is Patchouli as is with Midnight Posion... and that really counts here. BD Night's slight Blackberry/ Freesia top differ a little from MP's Mandarin/Bergamont top. BD Night's lack of sweet vanilla and emphasis on amber & frankincense give it a slightly more medicinal feel, so I would say its more like Midnight Poison Elixir (the best dupe available I would say) than the original MP EDP. But its a great alternative for either and much cheaper. I guess marketing wise though its for a younger, budget audience of course. I don't care though- its dark & intriguing to me! Still available in some Savers, various perfume shops and online- go and try it!

Lalique 'Perles de Lalique'
Similarity rating: 5.5/10
Differences: This is powdery and lighter than MP definitely. I find Perles to be a much more polite fragrance than MP, smells great up close but its not a head-turner for me. Its a lot more ladylike and well-behaved with the revelation of its notes like the Patchouli than the others mentioned. Controlled, smart, pleasant and nice... not uninhibited and striking like I experienced the other perfumes already mentioned.

Jeanne Arthes 'Sultane 1001 Nights'
Similarity rating: 4/10
Differences: WARNING! 1001Nights is not a sweet fragrance!  It is a dry, spicy, citrus scent. Think of a floral inspired version of timeless male fragrances like Chanel Anateus (1981) or Dior *Eau* Sauvage (1966) The rose and jasmine are playing backing vocals here, jasmine being the stronger singer and our friend Patchuoli is nowhere to be found. I can see why some people think this is similar to MP (common notes of Bergamont, Rose, Jasmine and the Spice/pepper resembles Patchouli somewhat). However without the all important Patch, Amber & Vanilla of MP... its from an entirely different family of fragrance IMO.
:)

ladyjm89

It's apparent that negative reviews of any kind, including the helpful and informative type are ruthlessly down voted until they disappear entirely, leaving curious researchers like myself with nothing but a panel of 'yes men' reviews to go off of! Very unbalanced and frankly--misleading. Petty downvoting makes the whole point of Fragrantica moot. A review shouldn't be despised simply because the person writing the review happens to possess a different taste in fragrances than you. We all need different opinions, good and bad, to make this website helpful. (sorry, had to be said. It's obvious what's going on, and it's not constructive!)

Now on to the perfume. I am not usually a fan of patch, and this one is predominantly just that! However, it really mellows out quite nicely in the drydown and kind of turns into this creamy, yet heady scent. Very attention-grabbing and seductive if a light hand is used. Too much and you'll have everyone running for their inhalers! Overall, if you're a patchouli lover, this one is a keeper!

BlackAmberMoon

I love Jacques Cavallier's creations, but it took me a while to warm up to Midnight Poison. It opens with an explosion of dry patchouli, so much that I thought I'd get an asthma attack, and I can handle very potent perfumes.

But, once it settled and the other notes got a chance to be heard, it became a beautiful melange of rose, citrus, amber, and patchouli. Feminine with a gothic edge. And the bottle is a beautiful shade of violet blue. Perfect. I'm glad I got it before it became discontinued.

The original Poison is still my favorite. That is a masterpiece.

Callisa'sBlueSky

Dior Midnight Poison receives a lot of attention; especially for a discontinued perfume. Is it really worth the hype? People pay ridiculous prices for a bottle of Midnight Poison. I was lucky enough to stumble upon a bottle of this lovely gem.

This is truly beautiful. I am not the biggest fan of patchouli but in Midnight Poison it is perfect, this combined with a deep velvety rose is irresistible. The opening is not my favourite, it is somewhat harsh and so shrill to my nose. Luckily it quickly settles down to the most beautiful luxurious deep scent I have ever experienced. This is a gothic dark beauty in full glory.

While I think the Cinderella inspired advertisements are well done I feel Dior chose the wrong fairy tale for Midnight Poison. When I smell Midnight Poison I experience a gothic version of Sleeping Beauty. The opening is harsh, cold and even somewhat metallic to my nose, like a shocked gasp of discomfort drawing a bit of blood from the prick of a needle. Then the beautiful rose steps in, sweet velvet rose as if Aurora is laying down on a bed of dark red rose petals. The sweet spiralling scent tempts one to let go of consciousness, to be swept away into it's realm of delicious dark spun dreams. The patchouli is perfectly earthy, a bit musty even as if a hundred years is passing by and there is not a stir around the sleeping princess. This is not a fairy tale where the princess wakes up and rejoices in a new found love. Rather this is the story of a princess escaping the demands and pressures of the world and spends an eternity blissfully sleeping and living in a magical dark realm.

Midnight Poison is best worn at night, it is mysterious and seductive yet there is a strangely innocent quality about it. This is the scent I tend to reach for when I need to shut the world out for a while and spend time alone, deep in thought or lost in a good book or just dreaming about magical realms. So is Midnight Poison worth the hype? Absolutely yes! If you enjoy darker scents try to get your hands on this jewel. I hope Dior someday realized its’ mistake and bring Midnight Poison back to us.

cocolover56

Had a 50mL bottle and enjoyed having it for its rarity. Unfortunately for me, this just wasn't enough of an excuse to keep it. I found it to be a lovely and dirty rose patchouli mix, earthy ... but altogether plain, sadly. Didn't develop and didn't do much of anything. Whenever I sprayed it on, I was bored almost instantly.

Understand the love, but not for me. I would love to see Tendre be brought back, though.

camden-girl

Ive reviewed this however a few more comments.

the second version that came out in 2012 is not as weak or not long lasting as people assume.
last night i popped out and had sprayed 3 sprays of the 2012 version. it was a cool crisp night and i kept smelling something beautiful and sweet in the air, so did my partner, at first my hubby thought i was wearing angel but i said no its midnight poison the stuff was radiating 3 foot each direction it was a shock to me as id not warn it for ages.
then 2 hours later back home my daughter said whats that sweet smell mum , it was still going strong !! (compared to say my chanels that I love but they don't radiate as much.)

today i was wearing hypnotic poison eau sensuelle, same thing it was strong and i could smell wisps of it hours in....dior was powerful once u got quality and got what u paid for., Strong regal beautiful perfumes, even Hypnotic poison eau secret is strong-ish !
Sadly many perfumes are affected by 2015 EU restrictions and are not as lasting anymore, and wear close to skin.

Lastly on the subject of Elle by ysl being similar, at first I thought yes to that,
But it's like comparing tarnished silver to radiant gold , Elle is just slightly on same par but to me it's like a mothballs version , Dior nailed it with MP it's dark glamorous Amazing but at first it may feel masculine or heavy, weird even, it took me ages to warm too as another reviewer said, but once I did I realized it's wonderful, and what I was going to sell on is now not ever leaving my collection. One night you will wear it and it will shine warming on skin in a way only Dior does.
Give midnight a chance if your unsure as I was , a cold night out walking made me realise she was for keeps ! I just fell a bit in love with her as dark deep and sweeter notes unfolded in the freezing air around me I suddenly appreciated how good this gem is.

10/10 for scent
11/10 for sillage

Special occasion perfume and brilliant at unfolding magicly in cold weather.
(Still not tested in hot weather)

Acquired a legitimate, small bottle of this online from a private seller as a blind buy. Wasn’t sure what to expect but I do love Dior and the purchase was a bit serendipitous. Not sure if I love it, it’s just so far removed from my usual olfactory interests. I don’t get any of the top notes personally. It instantly settles on my skin as hardcore patchouli and dirty rose with an undertone of what I think is the Amber. The vanilla is subtle but present as it mellows out, and gives it a nice little sweetness and softness that I think I need in there to keep me interested - because patchouli dominant alone does not appeal to me. It has a smokey, sultry and mysterious quality without being too intense, which I have to say is intoxicating and keeps this different enough that I am going to keep it. It won’t be a regular wear for me, and I don’t think it’s a love, but I do like it quite a bit and I’m happy to have it in my collection. My young Daughter loves the fairytale like bottle. I’ll be saving this one for autumn and winter nights, out to dinner with my Husband - semi rare, a bit special and a little lovely.

Neosmiaphyte

I feel very lucky to have managed to get my hands on a sample. Midnight Poison is a very perfumey perfume. I instantly recognized it as a fragrance women wore in my childhood. Patchouli dominates throughout with bergamot in the opening.

This fragrance has Dior DNA written all over it. There is something in here that reminds me of J'adore, Addict and a little bit Dolce Vita. It does not smell the same as these perfumes but shares a beautiful classiness that is simply DIOR.

UnearthlyApothecary

Midnight Poison is the magic elixir, a dark witches brew that entices and enchants. There is no other rose/patchouli worth smelling. After a whiff of this all others will smell flat and boring. Can’t wait to get a FB.

Crowleysviles

I had never got around to trying this one because I am generally uninterested in patchouli/rose, but this completely transcends that combo, this is incredibly sexy, dark + fresh. Of course I love it Jacques Cavallier is my favorite perfumer. Big fan of bvlgari white tea, and all incarnations of original bvlgari Pour Homme from 1990s.

I finally own Midnight poison.. Unfortunately never had the chance to purchase back in the days but do remember a rosy ambery woody feel layered with patcholi, according to the notes it almost feels like Halston Couture's notes Woody Chypre indeed! DIOR please bring back seeing the notes it shouldn't be so complex to relaunch this Poison of a juice! Another fine fragrance died and left many wanting more Midnights looking at the Moon!

A 1000 why's!!
Why Did Dior discontinue this absolute beauty?? Leaving a lot of people Truely heartbroken me included!! I've honestly never met a Perfume House like Dior, that really doesn't give a dam about it's customers/followers!! When they discontinued Tender Poison years ago (another firm favourite of mine) their capable of anything!!

YSL Elle & Guerlain Insolence are indeed both very similar to MDP although they both lack the over all creamyness MDP processes!! Then what does YSL do yep they discontinue Elle,& I move onto Guerlains Insolence!! That was until Christmas Day when I was bought a bottle of "LALIQUE - PERLES DE LALIQUE" & wore it today for the very first time (MASSIVE SMILE ON MY FACE) As out of the YSL & the GUERLAIN this one really does smell identical to the original MDP as it had the same pure creamyness that both the YSL & GUERLAIN LACK!!

To be 100% honest I never heard of the Lalique Perfume Brand ever before, until today that was!! But just so glad that I now have as I'll most deffo will be buying this beauty from now on!! & deffo earge anyone who really loved MDP as much as I did to give this hidden beauty a real try!! I'm certainly very happy this Christmas Time forsure!! XxXx

My first perfume, bought for me on Christmas 2007 by my Father. I look back at that time and I think wow, my dad really had no idea that this perfume would draw his teen girl into womanhood. He had no idea.

Everything. My first romance would not have been so passionate without this scent filling the spaces between our skin. That poor boy is now married with 2 kids and he still rings me up randomly reminiscing about this scent. This scent symbolises the becoming of my womanhood, the ignorant fantasies and the heavy pains of heartbreak. Nothing will ever compare to this scent. It wrapped me in midnight satin and left trails of mystery behind a blissful young woman, ripe with ecstasy, hinting at the depth below my surface.

I would give anything to just smell this again! I am emotionally attached to this perfume. The fact that it's discontinued makes me never want to support Dior again. I feel like I can never really smell like ME without it. Incomplete

With all the reforms dior comes up with you would think they would make midnight poison 2018, and make people happy, while taking our money. Win win come on dior.

THEY say it is better to have loved and lost...

I say it is probably a good thing I have never smelled this (the only poison that has eluded me) as imagine it to be wonderful...

I am, however, not willing to spend £££s on flee bay!

Why did they discontinue this?! I've fallen in love knowing that the 1 oz bottle i have won't last long.
Midnight poison is powerful, incredibly seductive and addictive. It's "dark" patchouli and rose with citrus nuances. It's one of those scents that you just know that you're going to be the center of attention, leaving a trail with the smell of lust following you everywhere you go.

All perfumes from the Poison line (aside from Pure Poison) end up smelling very sweet and fruity on my skin - and Midnight Poison is no exception. I can smell very sweet mandarine and vanilla combo, as well as some red berries: although these are not listed among the “official” notes, my trusty sniffer says that they’re there! Midnight Poison is not my cup of tea, but credit where credit’s due - this is certainly a very sexy scent for those who enjoy fruitchulis.

I must b the only one who likes the reformulated version, i own both and the reformulated is a tad sweeter its just as good and i think better , lol dont all hit me at once ;)

I talked to managers of dior and the general response is that midnight poison under performed and that was the decision to discontinue it. I think this was a wonderful scent and the bottle was pretty. I like it more than the pure poison that is for sure. Wish dior would bring it back but I highly doubt that will happen. Poison girl seems to be selling well not as much as jadore but it is one of the better sellers at the moment.

A girlfriend who is single wear this perfume for nightclub and Halloween party I love it so much on her I asked her if she could let me borrow it. She said I could have it! I'm so happy with this beautiful parfum. I love the bottle in midnight blue color and the scent too is the same color. Is sexy smoky sultry Oriental parfum. I smell at first the fresh citrus top notes with a vanilla only a little powdery. I smell the green notes and the patchouli leaves. Smell to me like a kind of bergamot tea with green leaves tea leaves. I don't smell the rose I smell mostly a green tea some vanilla and amber in the base with leather. This is not witchy to me smell like a sexy Hindu woman who like strong perfume. The cloud around you when you spray it is very powerful so I only spray a little. Smell exotic and mysterious. I will wear for Halloween party! I love this parfum! Thank you Elena!

I wonder what makes a top designer like Dior to discontinue their best feminin fragrance ???????
I always consider it in my top 4 perfumes together with Eau du Soir, Alien and Rush. I have only 3 of my top four fragrances.
I refuse to pay the exorbitant prices that are asked in Amozon with no guarantees of receiving an original product.
I already try to find some dupes but so far I am not satisfied with the suggestions received.
Does anybody have a good suggestion for a Midnight Poison good dupe?

It was one of my favourite perfumes about 7 years ago. I had the EDP spray and the body lotion. Both had incredible lasting power and stayed beautiful all day long. I was very disappointed when Dior discontinued this scent, as it was really stunning & very sexy.
I hope they bring it back some day - then I will stock up!
