smells like the dry down of coolwater edt

richmilton

If fragrantica had a rating system for the best "cheapies" Aspen would be at or near the top of the list. Ideal in early Spring when the weather is still little cool and you want that mountain air and pine vibe. But could easily be all around year scent.

Светлое будущее

Nothing to do with Davidoff. I bought a bottle about 5 years ago, made in the USA, with a metal cap. There are new ones made in Spain with a plastic lid. The longevity and strength are decent for a Cologne. The smell of winter mountain air. Ideal for spring, when the snow melts under your feet. Right now he is very handsome.

FloridaFragLover

I find that this has been reformulated. Still zero performance. Too overpriced for what it is. It's just something you spray on right after a shower before going to bed thats all it's good for

monknom

Tried this on a whim as I was looking for something inexpensive and fun to wear without worrying about using up an expensive bottle. It's pretty good! For sure is very green at first and dried down to be woody. It is ever so slightly soapy smelling, but not to a degree I find off putting. It is rather sheer, so it is perfect for layering. I've layered it with perfume oils to help ground it and deepen the spice and wood notes with great success!

MemesRUs

I'm baffled most people find this to not be Winter suitable when it is a Mountain-esque like fragrance. It makes me think of a highly wooded area w/ hills, for all seasons.

Longevity was 3+ hours. Projection was good.

Perfumedsecrets

I liked this one the most all the affordable men’s cologne options throughout the 90’s. It’s crisp, clean, and I like the woods in it. It reminds me of a snowy forest. There’s an iciness.

meliecat

This is a fragrance I bought dirt cheap for an ex of mine who used Davidoff Cool Water and I was crazy about that scent and in fact it kinda still reminds me of him and the time we spent together. This fragrance, however, reminds me more of all other slightly conifer fragrances or anything that's aldehydic.. Not Cool Water, no, maybe for a split second initially.. This is something I'd rather give my dad for Christmas or anyone who doesn't care about longevity, wants something green or just wants to layer with something.
I get a lot of green, aldehydes, conifer, some cedar and bergamot. Lasts maybe 2-3 hours and NO, it doesn't give me that Cool Water effect..For any other purpose it's just fine.

0scarlr

Why is this more rated towards spring over summer wear? This is very close to Davidoff Cool Water, which is a brilliant summer fragrance that is refreshing, this is no different

Habit Luge

Clean, green and aromatic. Dry down is indeed similar to Green Irish Tweed. Synthetic vibes off the jump, however it cleans up and smooths out quickly. Current formulation is not much different from late 90’a incarnation. IMO better than Cool Water. For the price, perfect for work, or for the frag head that likes clean, green after shower spritzes. This frag reminds me of being promoted and reporting to work with no sleep. 5 hours longevity certainly. Perfect for an atomizer to “fresh up” during the day.

W0rmw00d

This smells like if a pine tree made an after shave company.

Very fresh herbal clean smell. Very good smell, it just doesn't last super long on my skin.

I'd reccomend it for an everyday scent.

Safe blind buy!

ANNAFRYS

I really need to test it. Coty had icons. I am sure thery are still avialiable in USA.

MadMax001

Really like the smell of this one...!! ( My wife also ..)

Fresh clean and woody....!!
It's my after shower scent.

Problem is the longevity..on me at least.

If anyone could suggest something that smell like Aspen...but more of a "beast" scent wise..I'd be happy !!

( Clone or not.....)

Many thanks in advance !!

Jqwalls

Aspen takes me back to 6th grade in 1998. One of my first colognes. The ladies loved it lol. Just bought a new bottle and it seems like it doesn’t last nearly as long as it used to. Scent is Similar to cool water but a bit more citrus on the top notes also not as strong as cool water imo. Somewhat weak but what do you expect for the price? Just spray more to get the projection and longevity you want since it is so cheap. The price makes this an excellent buy.

alien_with_blue_eyes

It smells exactly as its name suggests, like fresh mountain air on Aspen. For this price is a steal.. Amazing!!

JFJD

Smells great, but if you're looking for a lasting fresh fragrance, keep in mind on me Aspen lasts about 40-50 minutes.

ivankovai

Back in 80's, this would be etherich oil rich bath, with pine, woodsy haven. Today, its just syntethic water, the facto, quality fails when it has to be sold on mass production. For lower middle class 21. century sucks!?Goodby good old 80's, welcome "21's Century powerty"!

Kingskid07

This is, by far, one of my three most reached for post-sweaty-workday freshies— sprayed as I'm leaving. I usually find it on ebay for around $11 for the 4oz size. It's casually versatile and will most likely always have a home in my collection~

Commander444

This is still one of my favorite colognes. Green, earthy, it's just perfect especially for $10.

jct94

Cool green scents. It's like i'm picturing myself waking up in the morning from a camp in the middle of the forest with big woods and ready to take my fresh cup of joe.

ROUSAK

Similar to cool water but better. Balances and not sticky. 7.5/10

JusttheFactsMan

#76 in my "Tour de Fragrance" of 250 scents in 250 days, and another of the "30 under $30" I've tried. It's been around for more than 30 years but having only seen it drug stores I just assumed it would be awful and never tried it before. Now I have. It's not Adidas level awful, but it's pretty bad. I'm not sold on scents that put me in mind of an Evergreen Forest as this does in the opening, but I get it has its fans. This isn't Pino Silvestre's recycled Christmas tree level of offensive to the nostrils, just the opposite. Aspen fades quickly down to a weird mixed of dead conifer and dried beans that I don't like on me and can't imagine anyone else will like smelling. I'm gonna have pass on this one. It's a $7 scent going for $12. And while there may not be a better choice at $12, I've found 28 way better choices out there for less than $30.

Laeric

Love it! No perfumer listed, but if you told me it was crafted by Pierre Bourdon, I would believe you. It’s Cool Water AND Green Irish Tweed. Not identical, but same family. Greener. The bottle is HIDEOUS, but apropos for the scent contained within. I just don’t understand why all of the regulatory info had to be printed in HUGE FONT on the front of the bottle. The whole back and bottom are completely bare. Terrible design. Same problems with this one as most of the Coty frags. Poor projection and Sillage. People will notice it when you no longer can, but not at any kind of distance. BUT! It’s $20 for the big bottle. If you like Cool Water or GIT you will like this almost guaranteed! Fresh forest on a cool day in spring, sitting by the waterfall, listening to the birds chirping, grateful for the break in the heat. Not overly masculine, it’s not a Polo. More approachable and better translates for modern times.

richmilton

Value? Absolutely at under $20
Performance? Excellent at 6+ Hours
Uniqueness? No. Similar to GIT/Cool Water
Reformulated? Still same original juice.
Season? Spring or Early fall s ideal.
Woman opinion? Most love it IME.
Collector Worthy? Yes, American Classic

pronose

Aspen is on the same ballpark as Cool water by Davidoff which was released in 1988! And has the vibes of green Irish tweed by Creed too! Aspen is a nice & elegant cheapie❤️

Tmanarl

Picked this up as a blind buy as it was inexpensive and I am still building my collection. My God do I like this! It has a nice green character, very aromatic and has lasted several hours now and I'm still digging it. What does this say about me that this might be one of my favorites? I guess wear what you like.

zlouiemark

Classic green barbershop smell. Kinda reminds me of an expensive rubbing alcohol.

Update: I am starting to love the freshness of this. Its no ugly barbershop scent, its a fresh expensive barbershop scent that's way too smooth and classic. Green, fresh and aromatic.

RCRUZ

I had a small bottle of this 15-20 years ago. I don't remember this being this good. This is extremely under rated.
Green, mossy, clean, pine, woody.
scent (subjective) 9/10
performance 6/10
value 9/10
A+ Love this scent. winter time scent. good for work, in the office, daily activities. would not wear it on a date or a formal occasion.

Brotherhoodofmettle

For the price it's an amazing buy. It's definitely more of a pine version of cool water by davidoff. The citrus at first is overbearing for what you would expect from this scent. But its very synthetic-y don't expect to smell like a real natural forest. Very nice scent tho, very fresh very woody and cool.

R Patrick Randall

Trust your nose and enjoy what you enjoy. It may be considered "cheap" or "linear" or "synthetic"; and it may carry certain associations from being a Coty product, or from being a 90's drugstore stocking-stuffer. However, I simply love the smell of Aspen--and so do the people around me when wearing it. It's a joy to wear, and garnishes a surprising number of compliments.

blake03truax

I can't help but to still love it for he nostalgia factor alone. It still smells nearly identical as far as I can tell and it's another one that certainly transports me back in time a bit. This was a major staple in my small collection througout Jr High and High School. Right alongside my other Coty fragrances like Gravity and Preferred Stock. For what it is and for the price you can get it, I've gotta give it a solid B+ in the cheapie category. Still leaves you smelling fresh, clean and a bit green.

Lotus/iris

Smells like a soapy forest. I really like it but it doest last more than an hour and a half off my skin. I don’t really tend to reach for it.

Commander444

Probably the best cologne for $10 you can find. As green as it gets.

AnosmiaAnosognosia

I've always loved this one. Got it as a present back in 90 or so, still smells the same. I was surprised it was still made. much less finding it in Walmart.I just got into fragrances recently and here we are. Sweet clean crispy forest. The bottle and name are a good representation of what's inside. Safe green freshness is what this offers, worth a blind buy at this price.

eriksimon

This was my first fragrance. I asked for it for Christmas when I was 9 or 10 after trying it out at Kmart (early 90’s). I vaguely remember the sensation of the smell and adoring the bottle. I know it was zesty and modern (“modern” compared to Brut or Drakkar at least) with an outdoorsy pine ambiance; though it may have been the presentation and marketing that gave some of the pine sensation?

My dad is a stoic outdoorsman and he took my big brother and I on the archery deer hunt the following year. I made sure to pack my Aspen, because surely there’s no fragrance more appropriate for such a masculine, outdoorsy occasion— thought my husky (90’s for chubby) 10 yr old self.

My dad was NOT impressed as we were hiking into the trees and he realized that I had not only packed cologne, but sprayed some on right before leaving camp. Apparently, deer have a hyper sensitive sense of smell and hunters go to extreme lengths to avoid having any scent whatsoever. 😂

Cletus Lorentz

This probably was better back in the days. Have not tested, but the current version is just a generic green synthetic mess.

Kenchaai

This is one of those bottle designs whose appearance, logo and colour perfectly describe the scent of the perfume. It smells like a fresh forest. There's a view of a tall pine forest outside of my window, and whenever its raining outside I love to chill by the balcony with the door open and spray this a couple of times. It perfectly sets the mood with the scent.

ChilledSpice

One of my favorite cheapies. Performance isn't great, but you can't go wrong with just how clean/fresh this smells.
It's my default post shower fragrance.

NicholasCowlen

It smells kind of like bug spray. It's not a terrible smell, the pine is evident but it is also a very synthetic smell.

aoyirut

smells like pine tree

dezaval

First of all, I do appreciate fougeres, but it was rather difficult for me, as a woman, to find one to wear. But Coty Aspen took me my surprise! Oh my, such a beautiful green/fougere gem! Fresh, citrusy, with green notes in the opening, it later becomes herbal and earthy, but still in a fresh way. The drydown is a pine forest with the crisp mountain air up in the blue sky. All these in a bottle! Very, very beautiful in its simplicity! At last, I found a "fougere" I can really pull off as a woman! The longevity on my clothes (as I never spray fragrances on my skin, for safety reasons, for keeping the fragrance true to itself and for having longevity as well) is 2-3 hours, but I don't mind respraying it at this price!

By the way, I can understand this is "fougere", but why isn't this also called "chypre"? IMO, it could be called a chypre as well, because it has bergamot on top notes, geranium (ok, not labdanum) in the middle ones and oakmoss in the base.

In any case, it was a safe blind buy, as the price was great and the juice so pleasant! I believe there'll be no one telling you "you smell bad"! A forest on a mountain never "smells bad"! I like it a lot!

cm66

Little Trees Black Ice car freshener In a bottle,..For $15/20 , A great everyday cheapie!

Steven0

Clean opening. Very heavy on the Ambroxen.

joshuabrian

I’ve never understood the whole GIT comparison. This is way more green.

zbise

I cannot compare with GIT, but side by side with Cool Water? They are very similar, but Aspen is slightly more synthetic and smoother. Both are so cheap that honestly, you could just get both of them.

Trace57

I keep a bottle of this in my car at all times. A good spray-n-go just in case

EMSFraghead

As someone living in the woods, I know a thing or two about how it should smell. Unfortunately, Tres Nuit, Aspen, and Green Irish Tweed all smell like faux pine forest. They smell like someone living in a major city would imagine the woods to smell like, so I have sold each sample or bottle I had of each. Aspen I found to be closer to GIT than Tres Nuit due to a funky Faux Leather smell I picked up in the frag (Not from the wrap around of the bottle.) Tres Nuit lasted twice as long though, Since Aspen is gone by the fourth hour. It is very close to the skin too.

chazmo1234

This is one of the classic fragrances that last on your skin and were affordable when I was a young teenager. It also did a decent job at masking weed smell

TonySpilotro

Wore this little gem alot back in the late 90s. A greeny citrus fragrance that smells strong at first but quickly dries down to a more mellow green woody scent. Im going to pick this up again.

Hovson

$10 dollars a must have smells so fresh and clean not cheap smelling either last about 3-4 hours projection not so good but the price is too good to pass, reminds me of green irish tweed they actually perform alike but this is way cheaper and you can buy as many as you like and apply as much as you want it will not offend

Mystères du Château de Dé

Performance is fine on me. And Aspen is one of a small minority of my fragrances that lingers on fabric for days, smelling sweet, simple, and pretty.

Giava94

Musky, woody, green smell.
Very poor performance.
For the price overall ok

braddock282

Smells great, but terrible performance

sangfroid7

Aspen came out one year after Cool Water and is very similar. I like it much more than Cool Water because it it changes that repressed super masculine vibe and makes it more green and sociable. Performance isn't great, but it still smells pretty good on clothes so you could wear it on your clothes. Some scents smell much better on skin but this one doesn't smell too much better.

It has an aftershave vibe in the sense that it's not very natural but not astringently synthetic either. It smells much better than any aftershave I've found yet. It's more dry than sweet, so you can wear it to smell good day or night, warm or cool weather. If you like it, check out the Eternity EDP. Aspen could be worn by a tough, nice cop, while Eternity is at home at Starbucks.

Forever_beard

Absolute steal for the price, and the similarity to cool Water, but obviously in a different route. The notes on this are fairly accurate with the citrus and green hitting you right in the nostrils. Woody as it dries down, some of them herbal notes though too

Bwsmith42

This is a very good value cologne. It's extremely green and has a fresh ozonic springtime aire to it. It smells exactly like walking through the woods in the Springtime. It smells very similar to the cult classic "green irish tweed" and actually inspired me to purchase the fanous creed fragrance once I learned this is considered a "clone" of green irish tweed. I however wouldn't call this a "clone" its maybe 75%-80% similar it has its own unique scent. It has an alpine pine tar pine needle coniferous type of scent to it. Reminds me of camping out in the mountains out west in California or Arizona. It's very distintly masculine and has some spicy notes to it but nothing over bearing which I like. It's very very hard to overdo this cologne. You can lather this stuff on and I promise you won't offend anybody. So to me it's best as an every day cologne but it's not a great Saturday night cologne. I wouldn't wear this out clubbing or something as I prefer something that projects further and lasts longer. This is just great because of its cost to value ratio and if you love "green" fresh ozonic woodsy colognes you'll love this.

PixelArtDeco

Very similar to Coty's Stetson Sierra and Davidoff Cool Water but a sad imitation of them. Maybe lasts an hour or so. Is it worth its price? Sure. Is it worth using? Not really, when you can still get yourself Cool Water instead. Especially since the current version of Aspen is a much lower quality than what it once was.

TheRealYuno

Skin scent within 30 minutes. I'm so sick of companies making garbage performing fragrances and dumb people actually giving them positive reviews. I know this is cheap but it doesn't matter when there's no performance at all.

CreepyKid

Aspen is one of those fragrances I enjoyed as a kid in the 90s and still have for nostalgia. The newest version is a very synthetic mixture of citrus, woods, greenery, "mountain air", some florals, and herbal notes. It's clean and crisp with a sort of sweet soapy shower gel vibe once it dries down that smells similar to old school green Coast soap which was a more vibrant Irish Spring knockoff. That part was not in the original though, the old stuff was freshly green mountain forests and leaves through and through. Even though Aspen has changed from it's original scent profile the new version is still nice enough to justify wearing.

Novoscentologist

Coty Aspen.....

I do have two scents at home which carry the name "Aspen".....

1. Coty Aspen
2. Lucky Tiger Aspen

The overall idea to bottle the Colorado mountain air near Aspen full of trees and nature is beautiful but IMHU Lucky Tiger did a better job.
Coty Aspen is definitely a nice scent but it doesn't capture the idea of Aspen that well because it smells not that woody and very similar to the original formulation of Davidoff cool water which is more aquatic.
So anybody who misses the original scent of cool water when it came out, go for Coty Aspen because the current Davidoff cool water was reformulated in a new direction with a touch more florals and musk.

If i want to smell like Aspen in a bottle I use Lucky Tiger Aspen. It is more woody and green.
Yes it is an aftershave with poor longevity but i use it as a hair tonic and body splash. Any scent lasts longer when applied to hair.

MAKSTR

Another modern classic done right. Fresh, grassy, woody, floral and musky. The more it settles the more it opens but fades away quickly in about 2 hours. Musk is the most long lasting note as I can smell hint of it after 3 hrs. It does remind me of the green pine tree car freshener.Good for weekend chores including lawn mowing. For $8 I wouldn't mind keeping it in my cupboard.
Scent 7/10
Sillage 6/10
Longevity 5/10
Value 8/10
Overall 7/10

SkunkApe

At first, Aspen does smell artificial to me. It reminded me of an air freshener for the first hour or so. But it gets better and better over time. Soon it started to smell more like a real fir tree, and later in the day it smelled surprisingly "tweedy."

apoorv_29

Slightly similar to cool water, but less modern. I will choose Cool Water over this any day.

rr690

One of the many fragrances my dad had on his dresser, but this was my least favorite. It smelled like those tree air fresheners ,but slightly sweeter. Its almost like an after shave vibe actually. I remember wearing it in Jr High and it not performing very well as it was gone by the time I got off the school bus.

echurch1979

I will unabashedly exclaim my love for Aspen, although looking around, I see a lot of blase reviews. This will not deter my affection or enthusiasm, over what I have gifted to every man in my life as: "The Right of Passage Perfume". This was also released on the shirt-tales of Irish Tweed, in 1989, and just as Cool Water's uber-synthetic archetypal aquatic was boldly issued, and became the world's new cliche. Aspen, not to be outdone, also delivers a grand dose of dihydromyrcenol, which was still a budding science at its novel unveiling. Bright and frosty notes of verdant herbaceousness, align with coniferous astringency, like rays of light drawn to a center point of refraction. Further incandescence is projected through radiant citrus and mint chords. Aromatic cedar and benzonic lavender create a clipped freshness, as sharp as lofty atmospheric air. Oak moss, amber and musk cast the shadows, and ease the spritely tension, cunningly created thus far. Stunningly low prices only further stir greedy purchase impulses. With fragrances being more widely accepted as gender neutral forums, I wore this the other day, receiving compliments almost immediately. When I returned home to my bottle, I winked at its lovely simplicity. Despite seeming to portray the caricature of a lumberjack, this is a very polite scent. Manners are kept and courtesy maintained, while sweet sillage slips around the room with proper refinement. Even the prissiest noses about can't help but exclaim, "Oh, Yeah!".

Alicen1derland

When I was in the 8th grade some of the boys wore this and it never appealed to me much. Fast forward to 2019+ and worn on a grown man this scent takes on a whole new dimension.
I find it much more suited for someone over 25, maybe even over 30.
It smells very clean, manly, and sexy. A just showered yummy man.
I think it is great for daytime use. Perfect for everyday, staying home or family/friend outings, get-togethers like BBQs etc.
It is not your typical fresh or attention-grabbing fragrance but more of a come-in closer type of scent.
The sillage sits pretty close to the skin but enough so that you can smell it if you are within arm's reach.
It gives you a sense of familiarity and comfort. Not really cuddly cozy but more of a sexy and comforting scent.
It makes me just want to get close and wrap my arms around him.
Nuzzle in close, enjoy that strong embrace and feeling of being in a man's arms.
That is how this scent makes me feel anyway.

kandykiller

A good everyday sports cheap body splash, do not wear on a date gentlemen or ladies,or out, special places, this is a synthetic fresh pine clean scent slightly woodsy...wish it was more like pine trees because I really love the forest& wish I could move out of this city life...hence why I'm a female who loves the scent of strong men& pine 🌲 trees!¡! I owned Chergui by serge lutens...but that is a great warm pine tree with lot of honey rum& spice smooth...but warmer& for winter& more Christmas like not sweet, but I'm on the search still for a fresh woodsy pine perfume or colonge ~

JoLeenS80

I think I had an ex (maybe two?) who wore this. I get early to mid 1990 vibes. Interesting to see its still available. I might buy some just for nostalgic purposes

PhonePotato

This is a very strong dislike for me but at $9 w/shipping for 100ml bottle I’d say this is a safe blind buy. Anything that’s been around this long and is still selling is worth checking out especially for this price. I’ll never wear it and it’s not worth selling but it’s another bottle in my collection.

This smells like it comes from the same era and genre as Cool Water but this does not smell like it as some suggest. This is much harsher and more chemical than CW and doesn’t smell fresh or clean or aquatic. I can’t comment on performance since I had to wash it off. I don’t typically get headaches from scents but this one did it. A

roccotool

Talk about barber shop.

Splash it on like an AS and be done with it.

Or rub a car freshener (the pine tree one) on your skin.

Spearo

Very similar to Cool Water. But Aspen has less of the more striking lavender/minty part. Aspen gives me more pine-needle. Definetly GREEN. Makes me think of walking through a lush moist pine forest. Perhaps in Aspen?

Ajaysinghchauhan

Aspen is the greenest of all green perfumes. It smells like clean mountain air. I like it. You might or might not. Honestly there's nothing to dislike about this perfume. It's inexpensive and clean.

yourthemanowdog

the green coolwater but it smells so harsh its kinda hard to wear . has one of the best dry downs after a shower very cheap price

ALC555

Aspen is a very good cologne for the price. My dad wore this in the early 90's. I loved it. This year in the pandemic l decided to buy one for me. It reminded me of my dad. I miss him a lot. I will always keep one in my wardrobe. It is fresh like Cool Water with a lot of green notes which l love. Great 80's creation.

OldFragMan

I actually like this fragrance — a lot! The price is unbeatable and it smells similar to Tres Nuit to me, not Cool Water. I apparently don’t have the right chemistry or my nose for Cool Water, it does not agree with my skin chemistry, it's boring and flat.

I actually took Cool Water and sprayed it on my skin and then my brothers. It smells great on my brother but horrid on me. Then I tried Aspen.

On me, Aspen is far superior with its grassy, piney notes. It definitely smells synthetic though, but it does dry down nicely.

It may not be my go to, but it is in my rotation. It is definitely one of the top 20 kings of cheapies.

7 out of 10

kiraagold

A marvelous cheapie that’s a splash of gin and lime bitters and Christmas fir trees. Sweetens to a light, long-lasting oak and lavender musk.

Many consider Aspen the green Cool Water, but I think it’s aged with the times better. Less freshman Chemistry 101 and more junior Natural Ecology.

Best during winter term.

Cajunscents

Like what was just said below. Very fresh and green and a little woody. Like the smell of cutting a live Christmas tree. If you want longevity you have to overspray to make up for the EDC concentration. Just out the shower for a couple hours before bed, 3 sprays is perfect. Going out for a leisurely day, 6 sprays and have 20 minutes for it to dry down because it projects pretty decent right after spraying.

rick1098

Man what a classic. If you ask me what a green scent smells like, this is what comes to mind. Woody, fresh, green, smells like you are literally in the woods or mountains of Aspen in the spring or fall. This is an EDC, so the longevity is pretty poor to be honest and it doesnt project much. I use this as an around the house fragrance or something to kind of just throw on if I cant decide. It sits very close to the skin, but its there and you can smell it decently. Same DNA as older Cool Water, with a green twist. Its a classic, no doubt

This fragrance has a profile that can be found in many shower gels and soaps.

Very fresh, very clean. I disagree with reviewers calling this sophisticated, it isn't. There's no depth, no layers, just fresh and green, a topnote hinting at synthetic conifer and a bubbly citrus. The basenotes that surface in the dry down are nice but hard to make out.

Super safe for warm seasons and daytime wear, good performance for the price. I like it better than Cool Water, but it's not as vibrant and commanding as GIT or Davidoff's Good Life (as far as I can remember).

Great value for the price this. However I would not wear this to anything formal and I'd be hesitant to wear it to the office.

siiiia

bitter, bitter smell. The bitterness crawls into your nose like menthol, just, instead of freshness, it is bitterness.

SeanAA

I'm surprised how much this smells like Carven L'eau Intense. CLI is much more refreshing from the mint, brighter, cleaner, better quality and, well, more intense. Partly due to it being EDT, I'm sure. Bottom line; if you like this, definitely give CLI a try. It's well-worth the extra few dollars. I see the price has gone up $10 since I bought mine, though.

Still good in 2020?

In 2020 many of us inhabit smokey cityscapes, almost too inhospitable to sustain a balanced life. Often we yearn for freedom, adventure and the great outdoors. In a world full of fakes, flankers and clones Aspen is a breath of fresh forest air!

7.5/10

Also: If you enjoy the clean and green, natural vibes of Aspen, but wanted some more complexity and depth, I’d give a sniff to ADP Colonia Club, it offers a similar profile, with a more barbershop feel, and an added burst of minty freshness…

nocoolnamesleft

I picked up Aspen on a cheapie binge - I have to say, I quite like it!

I like it in a strange way tho. Its just a good smell and I can't pull any notes out of it - its almost like a great smelling aftershave, and not dated either.

Its actually kind of fresh smelling - like a gust of wind coming off a unique tree you would find in the forest. I have to say, its very similar to fresh cotton laundry

When smelling it, it has that menthol type effect - but not minty.

I'm interested in giving it a few wears - its a very open shirt sunglasses lounging smell. I actually think I might pull a few compliments out of this on the right day.

Solid 8/10 for a drugstore cheapie.

Edit: I've got it! Opening is gillette shaving gel - its the dry down where this starts really hitting the good spots.

Yerevaninspring

Definitely Cool Water's greener brother. Nothing much to seperate them, I just find Aspen after an hour or two wears into carrying a significant lavender note, whereas Cool Water is the more linear. For the money (£11 100ml in the UK) it's a great fresh mens fragrance, I recommend it.

ucl1986

It smells good and only slightly synthetic. Very fresh and green. The problem is that it doesn't last nor project after 30 mins. I guess that is to be expected given it's an EdC.

shamus1

I think this is quite nice, an "old reliable", so to speak. Unfortunately I smell no pine or sap notes whatsoever, and in fact I can't say I smell any individual notes at all. What I get is a clean, hazy green fougere scent that is very similar to Cool Water. Very masculine. It's simple and straightforward, with very little complexity, but smells really good. Isn't that what matters most?

StardustHK

For a bargain bin fragrance, Aspen is surprisingly non-linear. It opens like the current Cool Water formulation. 10 minutes later it turns in the awful synthetic-sweet lavendar of Joop! Nightflight. Nauseating. As a reward for not washing it off in this stage: after the 2-hour-mark Aspen becomes identical to Kiton Men - which I love.

CONS:
- Synthetic opening (dry down though is very nice)
- Popular scent for decades (similar to Cool Water, GIT, etc.)
- Average longevity on skin (About 3-4 hours)
- Not the best option for formal or semi-formal events

#####################

PROS:
- Fresh airy smell (many women love this composition)
- Unbeatable value (Under $14 for 4oz)
- Suitable for all seasons (except very hot/humid days)
- Never goes out of style (fresh mountain air smell)
- Lasts long time on clothes (over 8 hours)
- Nostalgic for many people (expect compliments)

ke1th

Fresh opening with calone, citrus, lavender, and a strong green note that is grassy and minty. The florals of the heart give it some soapiness and it’s the sweet balsam fir that sets it apart from Cool Water. I’ve sampled Green Irish Tweed. This is close. Aspen is a little soapier and I found it to perform better (I may have had a weak GIT batch). Perfect for springtime—fresh, clean, reinvigorating and outdoorsy. A really nice fragrance I plan on always having around.

TrustJohnny

Opening sucks, smells super synthetic like cleaning products, kinda to be expected for a $10 fragrance. I have a love hate relationship with this stuff because the drydown smells great, like fresh cut grass if sprayed with nautica voyage. But once it reaches that stage it's basically a skin scent so I have to reapply it and suffer that harsh opening again.

Scent: 6.1/10 Pretty versatile, fun to wear, smells clean.
Performance: 4/10 Projects for an hour then becomes a skin scent, I can still pick up traces of it after a while though.

Overall, it's cheap, fun to wear, impossible to overspray, smells better than any body spray. Buy it.

muminharoon

Aspen is great for daytime wear all year round in the British climate, especially on a wet Autumn or early Spring day in my part of the country...green hills and woodland.

Surprisingly strong for the first two hours with the cedary note but then settles down into something less intrusive, mellow and green.

TesseractIndeed

As with many here, this was my first fragrance. The scent is great, probably an 8/10 for me. I have a lot of sentimental value with this, so even if I run out, I'm hesitant to try a different GIT clone, such as ALT Mohair.

All fragrances project a ton on me, even solid colognes. Therefore, like most fragrances for me personally, projection is massive, about 85% as strong as Versace Eros, and longevity is about 7 hours. This is a very pleasant, green, watery, lavender, fresh fragrance in the opening, and the drydown gets more of the Amber and fir and pine masculinity.

So, so good, even in 2020. 8/10

brandonR

This scent takes me back to my Junior year in highschool. It was a chilly western Kentucky October back in 1996, and I was seeing this girl who was not only the world's best kisser, but unusually physically aggresive as well. She would pick me up in her white Thunderbird after school, and we would drive all around town at night listening to The Wallflowers album - Bringing Down The Horse. It's not like I had a choice...the bitch was halfway crazy. I learned by the numbers though, and eventually came to really enjoy the album.

Anyway, she would always find a reason to sock me in the arm in a constant flirtatious manner, but man it hurt, lol. She was cute; not the amazonian type at all. I guess I attributed her relentless shenanigans with having grown up with an older brother in the house. One day, while rough housing my ass in her car, I complained to her about it. But looking back on it today, I think I subconsciously enjoyed it.

Everytime we were together, I wore Aspen by Coty. She loved the way I smelled that October, and I've always associated this scent with her, along with hearing "6th Avenue Heartache" on the radio at any given time to this day.

I guess Aspen will always hold a special place on the corner of memory lane and 6th Avenue for me. Ironically enough, our relationship ended in heartache, but I still got the same damn 1/4th full bottle, lol!

Cajunscents

Grew up wearing Cool Water in the 90s. This is very close but with the Fir note that greens it up a bit so it's not identical. Far enough difference to not be mistaken for each other. I sprayed three good sprays on my neck around 8am this morning and 10 hours later I can still lightly smell it on myself when I move around so longevity is very good. Great classic at a great price.

missswish

When I gifted a bottle of Coty's "Aspen for Men" (circa. 198?) my then, filthy rich ex-boyfriend belittled me about Aspen's price. Suffice to say, he did wear it when we were socializing together, and I WITNESSED for myself, the many people who stated to him how "great/lovely/sensuous/strong!" he smelled....
I wonder if he still wears Aspen for Men today, lol!
This scent will be plenty expensive online once discontinued, guaranteed!

OldSchoolScents

Got a 50mL bottle of this in a Christmas pack with 50mL bottles of Jovan Musk, Gravity and preferred stock for $20.00 Canadian. Absolute steal at that price.

I've never smelled GIT but I have Tres Nuit, Egra and Cool Water. Of the 4 I still prefer Cool Water but this is really nice. Smells nearly identical to my nose to the armaf and rasasi clones. If you own either you probably don't need Aspen (and it doesn't perform as well as either), but it smells great at its price point

dajc26

For some reason been craving and reaching for Aspen lately even though the weather is cold. Maybe needing a break from all the darker winter fragrances that I been wearing. Aspen does give me a hint of walking thru a winterly pine forest.
Heard stories of the powerhouses fragrances back in the days. Wish can go back in time and enjoy the original formulation and really take that walk into the forest. Also, own GIT and bunch of its clones but somehow don't feel the magic described by reviewers. Maybe the problem is me and not the fragrances. haha.

intuit

Today's Aspen is a synthetic muddy mess. There are shades of GIT here, but there are far better-smelling cheap GIT clones out there. Maybe vintage versions smelled amazing, but the current one is a hard pass for me. Get Cool Water for a similar price instead -- even its watered down current versions are higher quality than this. Or Armaf Tres Nuit if you want a cleaner smelling GIT clone.

esikko

This is the perfume of my first love. He was not my boyfriend though, because I was 14, he was 28, and he was a priest. So this love was really innocent, but strong as a storm. So later, every time I smelled this on someone (really not often, I don't know why, as I think it is crazy good perfume , especially for this kind of money, but maybe it's because it wasn't in the shops here in Poland anymore), I was washed away by this waterfall of strong emotions. This Christmas, 21 years after the first encounter, I bought Aspen for my husband. I hope I am not going to hell!
For me it is quite unique, especially compared to modern men's perfumes. But I have a thing for 90s perfumes, that's for sure. It's very fresh, but not harsh, green, somehow ferny (fougere) and sexy as hell... But then again, I am not being objective.

marcr17

This is the first fragrance I've ever had. It was a gift to 12 year old me from a family member. It reminds me of a more foresty, pine tree version of Cool water. I remember this got me compliments in middle school. I really enjoy the fragrance to this day.

phamh

Very green and herbal. I like it, but I don't love it. I really don't understand people who say how bad it is compared to GIT. Come on guys, look at the price tags.

akaysmart

I thought I will be the first one to write down here that it is my first fragrance (even though I was born in 90's) but I see numerous boys comments here before me saying that it was there first fragrance as a man. This testifies me that something's on earth are mysteriously unique!

FlirtBoy

There are 3 scents i could call "holy grail" of the 90s marine-fresh scents: Cool Water, Aspen and Carlo Corinto Rouge...they all smell very similar with minor differences (Aspen is greener than CW and CCR is a bit spicier)

GIT is in the same scent category but it is kind of timeless as it doesn´t scream "90s here!!!" (in a good way) and it is more herbal than those 3 mentioned above

justin.nemeil.navarro

My dad first suggested this fragrance to me when I first mentioned I started to get into fragrances. It was my first real full-sized bottle that I decided to buy, and it was honestly my favorite scent. Not only does it hold a sentimental value to me, being one of my dad's favorite colognes while he was my age, but it honestly matches a lot of my personality. I like being outdoors, and this is also a great dumb reach when I know I'll be outside a lot. When I'm indoors, it reminds me more of a barbershop, but it smells great nonetheless.

Forever Neil

OK, I'm a fan of classic fougeres, I mean big fan. This fragrance smells like a cheap clone house modern fragrance. This does not resemble anything classic. It's just synthetic, and probably one of the worst fragrances I've ever smelled. The note breakdown makes it seem pleasant, but buy at your own risk. Mountain man and forest, huh, you have to be joking. Go to your local car wash and check out the "Forest Fresh" car air freshener. 0 stars.

FragranEssence

One of the best woodsy/piney outdoor fragrances ever created. My collection will never be without a bottle of Aspen!

I was in my 20s, and the memories are vast. I played lead guitar and lead vocal in a hard rock/hair rock band on, what was known then in the music scene as, the West Coast Circuit. Whenever we traveled up to the northern part of the coast, this is one of the colognes I would pull out of my suitcase. The totally hot groupie girls always loved it. It fit the scene, the environment, and the whole nature-aspect of the great northwest.

Times sure have changed ... and so has my hair! But this great scent will remain timeless. Right now, it can be found for $8.49 on eBay for 4 oz. What? Get yourself a bottle NOW, and keep on rockin'!

sellersburg

I know Aspen is a respectable scent that is loved by many. However, I tried it and decided it wasnt for me. I couldn't reconcile what I expected it to smell like and what it actually DOES smell like!

Given its bottle design, I expected a woodland fragrance more like Bogart Signature or Tsar. It's named after a tree after all, with a nice-looking leaf design that really stands out. But instead of a nature scent, what you actually get is a slightly greener version of Cool Water. There is a very pronounced fresh laundry note that dominates the whole composition.

Many people love fragrances inspired by Green Irish Tweed. Apsen is a great pick is that's your style. You get a lot of depth and performance for very little money. It smells very clean and gives you a little nature thrown in there. However, when I put it on, I feel like I'm wearing someone else's cologne! Clean linen scents just don't suit my style.

fraglawyer

No fragrance aficionado will ever place Aspen in the same ballpark as its well known niche predecessor, but who cares. Aspen smells great and, as of 7/1/2019, at under $20 for a 4oz bottle (even less online), it is a ridiculously great deal.

Smell 9/10
Longevity 5/10
Projection 6/10
Value 10/10

Buy it.
Smell great.
End of story.

MacGuffin

This is one of the best bang for the buck fragrances. You can actually buy this at a local fragrant shop in UAE for 29 Dirhams! First loved since the free sample scent inside a Sports Illustrated Magazine leaflet in 1995 and reacquired recently this summer of 2019, I still find it hard to believe that this is actually the younger brother of Cool Water. I used to think that Aspen is the father of Cool Water. Same and familiar drydown, same strength of opening projection, but there is difference in smell and flavor. Aspen has distinct green flavor compared to Cool Water but the quality is still at the same level. This belongs to the shelf of a classic perfume connoisseur, side by side with Cool Water.

JohnSacrimoni

Very masculine oldschool fragrance, much more floral than I was expecting with a bit of spice, and not as fresh or green as I was hoping.

Still a very pleasant scent though, and the perfomance is strong. For the price it is very much worth checking out.

Also I love the bottle design, and the retro box it comes in.

Bigsly

I found a bottle of the reformulation for next to nothing, so I bought it. The vintage formulation is like an excellent niche scent compared to this one. It's "sticky" synthetic and I don't like the scent from a distance either. It smells more like chemicals, perhaps industrial cleaning ones, than anything else to me. They did try to capture the scent of the vintage formulation, but the budget may not have been enough get that done without generating an obvious chemical quality. On the other hand, with what some niche companies are doing these days, this could be marketed in an old fashioned insect repellent style bottle and sold for $200 per 50 ml, with a name like Summer Afternoon with the Grandparents.

UPDATE: After one to two hours it's not at "chemical" as it was at first, and it's closer to GIT than CW, though the composition is still too muddled (note clash) and synthetic for my tastes.

norra12455

I have it, and I love it. Not because it's ground breaking and unique, or because it performs like a monster. But because it just smells good. It reminds me of many designers, and for what it cost me (about 10 usd) you can't go wrong. Makes a good gym scent, if nothing else.

MNadz

This DNA keeps on rocking!!! Thirty years later and the smooth green freshness this brings to the table is timeless!!! The combo of green notes and lavender is simply refreshingly spectacular for Spring. The cost...how can you not appreciate what this does for the cost! Unless you don’t dig the entire vibe, even niche lovers have to appreciate this DNA and it’s value. Go ahead and blind buy a bottle for $10 and try it out this Spring. Almost all of you will be happy you did.

Ryanmmas26

After all this time I stilllove this scent ! I may not use it as much as I used to as my collection has grown but this is still great ! (Especially for the price)

Aspen does up slightly synthetic, green, fresh and almost like a fresh laundry type of smell. It doesn’t change to much but in the drydown it does get slightly more powdery and smooth. This smells nice up close which is surprising for a cheap frag but it smells wonderful in the air ! It’s also very subtle and inoffensive unless you overspray.(I found out if I do overspray I get a weird barn smelling note so 3-6 sprays andyou are SET)

This cologne is also appropriately named as the smell does remind me of an evergreen forest in the middle of winter. Which brings me to my next point. In my experience this has done better for me in the colder months as in the heat this has become slightly cloying so I love to wear this in the winter and spring on casual days out.

A big plus of this is that it has gotten me compliments! In fact,it’s even outshined a lot of my more expensive designers and niche.

Performance- this lasts on me 6-10 hours but only has average projection which to me isn’t bad for the type of scent as it’s a great work/and or casual scent.

Overall rating-7.5 out of 10 ! Not a favorite but a scent that I will always have in my collection for sure.

joe38

Really head to head with Cool Water ...
The difference can be exactly what the colors of the glasses suggest ...
The CW is just a blue "aqua" scent full of freshness and water tones! Until then, Aspen puts the same freshness in a green, herbal tone in a fouger robe.
Both are brilliant and great scents for everyday life in warmer weather. However, Aspen is a bit "Vintage" and its drought better reflects the pre-millennium concept ...
Not a linear scent at all!
Starts with fresh grass, and then focuses on a herbal-floral band, and the end result is a creamy fouger fragrance ...
Manly, checkered shirt, but still clean and soothing ...
Value for money unbeatable and in vain Cologne is still present all day long!
The change that goes along makes the cologne even more interesting and exciting! Brick piece in the collection.

taureanrage69

This is a fragrance that I have a very strong emotional bond to. I've loved it ever since it first came out eons ago, I remember sniff-testing it in the store and being amazed at how much I could love a men's cologne: I was literally stunned at how gorgeous something could smell. I ended up buying it and used to wear it around the house as I was afraid (back then, lots of mean girls at school) of what other people would think of me if they noticed I was wearing a men's cologne. Then as I got older I tried wearing it in small amounts when I was off by myself running errands, or out in the yard doing chores, until I finally got so used to it on myself that I didn't care anymore what anyone else thought. I've now had the chance to smell many other men's colognes so my horizons have been broadened quite a bit. For that reason, Aspen no longer amazes me as it used to, but I still think it's a gorgeous fragrance and I will always keep it because it's the first men's fragrance that I really liked.

Tonka Truck Bean

Umm... didn't come here to bash this fragrance, but... it smells uncannily like a very common insect repellent found in Australia.
You can't wear this in Australia unless you like that camping smell you get from mosquito coils

boffin1979

Almost identical to Cool Water. Just better priced. My dumb reach that I keep in my car console together with CK Shock. Good staying power for a cheapie.

CGV

Stunning. I get the comparisons with the two fragrances named so often by others but to me this one plays in another league because its not pushing as hard yet it achieves more. Truly captivating, green, clean, slightly soapy freshness that is so uplifting that you feel like flying away. The spirit of freedom is bottled in this fragrance. Its also like a true, honest friend for life. One of the last true classics standing tall. Utterly genuine.

M23

AWESOME.....I just got it online, its a blind buy. Its mind blowing. Too good one can wear on a date or evenings. You can wear it with casuals or formal dress. Wonderful and so cheap.

Survival

Coty finally did something right, and they did it 20+ years ago. Hurray to them. Anyhow, the comparisons to Cool Water are inevitable due to the shared notes.

I'll put it this way:

Cool Water is like standing on the shore and smelling the trees, very fresh and crisp

Aspen is like standing in the forest after the first snow melt and smelling the water from the forest canopy

Do you want greener or more oceanic? It honestly depends on your nose. I find just as much green in Cool Water (the Green Irish Tweed sibling) as I do Aspen. Aspen isn't as aquatic but the vibe is there.

I reach for Aspen more than Cool Water but CW has it's place in my collection. I love the simplicity of Aspen and it is inoffensive. Added note, if you like Aspen, try Cuba Prestige Black. CPB has a ton of green in it, like Swiss Army does.

cell

After all these years I finally got Aspen as I am in the process of acquiring frags that was launched during my formative years that I may have missed. Newer batch, obviously reformulated since the Aspen I remember was quite stronger than the one I have right now. Exchangeable with CW but this is more greener, lighter and sweeter than CW. Longevity is fine. Not expecting to be mind-blown. I am just after nostalgia. Overall, I am satisfied.

nchux

If you miss Davidoff cool water in 2000's, or if you wonder how was cool water smell before reformulation
Aspen is the answer

aznracerboi2k5

great woody scent. I spray this when I take a dump because its woody/pine nature covers up the poop smell pretty well

dinesh_mohan_194

I don't know about others, but this definitely smells better then Davidoff Cool Water IMO. It smells great when drying down and it lasts at least 6-8 hour on my skin! For the price it's an awesome cologne! A must try guys. It was a blind buy though...and I don't regret it. I have this on for almost 10 hours and I can still smell it.

MonarC

This smell very synthetically to me. Reminds me some kind of insect repellent.

zyleric

I got compliments on this without thinking of getting any. Based on experience the chances of getting most compliments on this one is during the first 5mins. of wearing the juice. This i can attribute with the fact that aspen has that very familiar, manly, crowd pleasing, classic projection.. All these instances occur while i was walking towards the people who gave their compliments it might also happen if the person who might give you compliments is someone who is very comfortable with your personality..

I guess the reason it doesnt work for me after the 5 mins. timeframe is because as ive mentioned above and most of us know the cologne has a very familiar smell that when someone catches a whiff of it will register to them as something that they have smelled before or would just say to themselves that this guy is wearing CW. Etc. They will like it but most of the times they will just keep the comments to themselves

A very good cologne to smell when you want to uplift your mood, the aromatic green vibe will want you to wear this during spring while taking a rest from a long walk in the mountains, standing in the shade of a hut while observing the beauty of a rain forest during the rainy season or just lay and fell asleep in the grass of early morning breeze of summer.

I will always chose this one over its contemporaries on its price range, this is something i wouldn't want to smell in me throught the day but because of its calming effect i would love to smell this on different instances on a given day

jamesward

Manly....check, fresh....check, longevity....hmmmm, Well I didn't need it to be. It worked for exactly why I had it. A quick blind reach for a freshy to run errands that would be gone when I needed to rock the beastmode frags for an evening on the town. Great scent.

tayyabforyouth

Smells really uncannily similar to Davidoff Cool Water, except it's more green. There is no pine or fir note; it's a pleasant green fougiere aroma. Sillage is moderate but leaning weak, as is longevity. It has a powdery accord that smells kind of dated; like an 80's cologne. It smells very synthetic - but in a pleasant way. I think having this and Cool Water together is a redundant purchase as they both smell very similar (but Cool Water has more aquatic notes and is a bit more complex). But since this is so cheap it's probably worth getting as a sort of extension to your Cool Water supply. I do think that Cool Water is better to my nose however, due to its more aromatic opening and drydown (with the citrus and lavender notes). Overall I like it, and really enjoy the pretty sophisticated looking green glass bottle as well, but it's not as good as Cool Water at all (though smelling similar initially, Cool Water has a way more complex and less powdery dry-down). It was so similar to Cool Water that I ended up giving it to my dad. I just smelled both side by side on both arms (Aspen vs. Cool Water) and to my nose, Cool Water is far superior. It smells more lively with an aquatic calone note and more pronounced citrus, as well as a noticeable mint note. Aspen is greener but less intense in sillage and more powdery. However I do have to admit I really enjoy the drydown of Aspen. It's very green and pleasant (but with less sillage and projection than Cool Water).

4/5

ambrox

One of the safest clean scents. Definitely smells like Davidoff Coolwater on the initial spray with Davidoff being sharp and watery while Aspen being soft and green. On the dry down though, Davidoff retains that sharp, earthy and aquatic vibe to it while Aspen transformed into a mixture of green, coconut-y and somewhat flowery vibe. When I get my nose close to my skin on the dry down, i get a little smell that reminds me of Johnson's Baby Oil lol. Does not smell that on the air though.

Overall:

Scent: 8/10 (safe and clean scent good for summer and spring)
Projection: 7/10 (projects above average on high heat)
Longevity: 8/10 (7 hours maximum on my skin)
Age group: anyonee can pull this off
Price: Bang for the buck

3bderahimb

very very close to creed not fan of green irish tweed neither this one

scentitar

A great room spray or new fragrance enthusiast buy.

You get a green, bright, and good smelling synthetic.

Recommended for a fresh clothes spray too.

If you want a 3 hour, cheap, Green Irish Tweed then this is it.

Try Tres Nuit too.

That_John_Guy

In high school, I wore Drakkar Noir religiously for years. One day I smelled a cologne that just blew my mind. Like another reviewer said, it smelled like a forest after a rain. I was obsessed with finding out what the scent was. After a lot of searching, I figured out it was Aspen. I wore this religiously in the 90s through college and I wasn't hurting for dates. I would just do one spray, arm held out from my body. I wore this until I got my first bottle of Green Irish Tweed. GIT is obviously way better, but way more expensive.

I don't know about reformulations or synthetic smells. It seems like I paid more for Aspen in the 90s than it is selling for today. I didn't really know much about frags back in those days. I didn't have a collection, just the one bottle of Aspen. I liked the clean, green smell. If it smelled too synthetic I wouldn't have liked it and worn it so much. I thought it just smelled awesome. Maybe it got reformulated and cheapened, idk, but I was in love with Aspen once upon a time.

yantestrs

I do like this one for it's uniqueness. Theresa top note. I don't know which one. That I'm not liking so much. Once the perfume settles it's pleasant. Earthy. Ill wear it again.

Hall2799

This fragrance smells exactly how it looks. It is the epitome of a green cologne. It's fresh and piney and green. Great smell for the price and a true classic. Not much to say about it except it's green. Decent smell but CoolWater is better.

Shugenja

I smell like a lumberjack,
and I'm ok.

Actually great. Great smell. $8 for 4oz/125ml.
I call that a Bargain. The best I ever had.
Best I ever HAD!

spompey

This is still the best cheapie on the market today. Fresh, green, clean & masculine. Is it GIT? No. More of a Cool Water, but does it give you the same feeling once applied? Absolutely one of Coty’s Greatest creations... Don’t let the low price fool you. It gets great compliments, it’s ridiculously inexpensive, and you’ll smell like a Sexy Viking while wearing it!

Cologne_Junkie

I honestly find it to be more aquatic than cool water. Suitable for use year-round, and you will never offend anybody and with this, it's incredibly fresh and clean. I have both of this and cool water and I definitely wear this more. For less than the price of meal for 4 oz, what more can you ask for?

8/10 for me

flash337

I blind bought this from the reviews, its OK, but no way as good as cool water, it smells clean and possibly better than the price tag suggests, but by the reviews the percentage is raised from nostalgia rather than the actual quality.

I am from the UK so I had not come across this before and so I can only judge it from smelling it for the first time and like I said its nice enough but will not be a further purchase for me.

BlackAmberMoon

An inexpensive gem. A former boyfriend of mine wore this and he smelled fantastic. He was an outdoorsy type so it suited him. Don't judge it on the initial blast - it's quite strong and needs some time to settle on the skin. It's very dry, green, and crisp with a musky drydown. The bottle is pretty elegant for the price.

Don't think I'd want to smell it on another guy, though, because it would remind me of him. ;-)

Ryanmmas26

Another cheapie but goodie that is still one of my go to dumb reaches when I want something that will be pleasant for daily wear but don't want to use 1 of my more expensive colognes.

Don't let the price fool you as this is a great fragrance for the price ! To describe this scent I'd say this is a green, freshie that has that fresh laundry smell but out of those type of scents this is 1 of my favorites for sure. It also has a real outdoorsy smell as well.

Not all of my colognes get compliments but actually this has gotten me a few but usually these type of scents work well on me. I used to wear this a lot when I worked in a factory and I got noticed multiple times in a positive way wearing this cologne.

Performance on this is above average in the longevity category as it lasts 5-8 hours and has decent projection but nothing too extreme that will offend.

Overall rating --- 7.5 out of 10 ! Above average but loses points due to originality

It's awesome in the beginning and quite chemical in drydown but definitely in a antiseptic ,neat, detergent way. A company comforting fragrance.

adamselectronics77

Oh my, this stuff brings back the memories, it was the cologne a lot of guys wore in high-school. For it to be as inexpensive as it is, it is a great cologne, but I can't force myself to wear it. If you like Cool Water, this is a great one to look at.

Coniferous forest after the rain. The air is fresh, clean, fragrant and green. A breeze of nature at your home. That's exactly what Aspen works for me. Tones of lavender, citrus, and fresh flowers. This unobtrusive and very pleasant scent should not be missed in any men's bathroom. Longevity is rather average, but it surpasses many renowned and more expensive toilet waters. And maybe because it's been a long time on the market, the price is great. So if you are not supportive of the extremely heavy and sweet oriental scents, do not hesitate, it's worth a try at least.

Aspen for Men by Coty is more than two decades of nostalgia in a bottle. Which comes at a gorgeous price tag. And the bottle does justice to its juice: it’s a scent that’s green and comforting.

Recently I purchased this fragrance for myself, along with two other fragrances (which will be given as gifts). I had never owned this fragrance in my life until now, but somehow it brings back a huge part of the past. Maybe someone from my childhood owned it. One of my brothers, or both. Or some of my sister’s male friends. I don’t know. But it’s very familiar, and I’m certain that I’d personally seen this bottle before. Maybe it was a staple for almost everyone way back.

komz

The scent is pretty good, imo it's better and more interesting than cool water's, Abysmal performance though, can't really complain since it's such a cheapie

ptilda

I blind bought this to fill out hub's growing wardrobe with some cheapies that he can spray like crazy. He's barely even tried this, I don't think. But I think it's quite lovely. Underrated and more sophisticated than one might think.

Hopefully when his CK Eternity and Truth get low, he'll give this a good try. If not, we might pass it on, but I think it's certainly worthy of a refined gentleman!

I wore it for the review.

香水

An all time favorite of almost everyone who likes green essences. Fresh, affordable and classic!

cheapskate

This is my most bought cologne ever since I started appreciating colognes and perfumes. As a 90s student who can't afford Cool Water, CK colognes or Polo Sports and wants to shy away from usual cheapies back on the day, this was the best choice I had. Smells like Cool Water with great sillage and longevity. The scent lingers on clothes even when they are already on the bin. Atleast the bottles I bought compared to the current ones on sale. Now that I am already a working 30s man, I still keep a bottle as segue to my other perfumes. And all are still cheapies! Haha.. Aspen and Milton Lloyds are a cheapskate's friends.

mopinto

My old buddy cologne. I have used this for decades. I always carry a bottle in my gym bag. After a long soothing shower after a long workout, that's what i want to wear. A fresh green and pine scent. Last long on skin, and projects reasonably well. You can't go wrong with this one. It smell like Cool Water, which i also always have around, but i prefer Aspen over CW.

stateff

I just got my bottle delivered. So green. So good. So many memories of my childhood. I test-sprayed it and female colleagues instantly asked what smells so good in the office.

threefourfive

Bought it mainly for nostalgic purposes, reminds me of my childhood!! We would wear this, Gravity, Cool Water, Eternity, Joop!, Obsession!! Won't wear this much but still fun to sniff and bring back memories!

richmilton

Quite possibly the best value in men's cologne today. For under $10 you can get a 4oz bottle of this magnificent juice. It often gets compared to GIT and Cool Water, and all 3 do have similarities. But each goes in their own direction and has their own personality, if you will. Aspen and GIT is more greener, while CW is more 'blue' with aquatic notes. Aspen is not piney like you might think because of the pine/spruce tree graphic on the bottle. It's more of a mountain fresh air kind of smell - clean, cool, airy, woodsy and just AMAZING! It has to be one of the most versatile fragrances in my collection because it shines in all seasons and can be worn for just about any occasion -- casual, suit, date, formal, etc. Although there are better choices for each of those occasions, Aspen is not going to be out of place for any of them. It's excellent whether it be a cold winter night, warm summer afternoon, rainy day in the spring, or a breezy autumn day. As for me, it will remain a stable in my spring rotation for two reasons, First, I prefer to rotate my fragrances by the season. Second, Aspen just reminds me of a New England spring season when the snow is melting, and that fresh crisp air is most noticeable. Aspen's performance is much better than you would expect for a $10 fragrance with a solid 4 to 5 hours on the skin, and easily all day on clothing. It's definitely a man's cologne with its outdoorsy, rugged, woody kind of vibe. It's not as synthetic as some of these reviews make it out to be. Although it's not exactly all natural either. I think most people that are not fragheads would have a hard time telling the difference between Aspen, GIT and CW... but they are all different to me, and worth having in my collection. However if I was to chose 1 of the 3, it would be GIT because it is more natural and the performance is obviously better. But Aspen is a very close 2nd. However, when it comes to value it's no contest... Aspen easily wins. For under $10 it should be in every serious collector's wardrobe.

Beyonder

Just between Davidoff Cool water and GIT by Creed this scent is a beautiful safe gentleman fragrance and definitely an excellent quality price ratio even if performance is not the most impressive.

LeotheLion

This is a shell of its former self. I recently purchased a bottle to use as a gym scent and something I can toss in my truck for emergencies. I do have a history with this; It was one of the first colognes I wore as a teenager. I used to love it. Of course, Coty had to F it all up just like they do with everything else. Want to know what it smells like now? Smell any "mountain fresh" laundry detergent or drier sheets. That's exactly what Aspen is now. It's the definition of synthetic. I'll use it as an air freshener now, since that's basically what it is. I'd generally recommend this to a teenager or someone looking for cheapies, but you can skip this now. Spend an extra $5 and get something much better.

I just finished an old bottle of this juice. This always was a nice scent for it's day, and still good now. I wore a few bottles of this, smelled good, a bit synthetic but relatively safe. I smelled it again today after smelling Creed GIT, I can definitely smell the resemblance, kinda bums me out on Creed as well. I'll probably pick up another bottle of this again, it's definitely worth it's asking price.

When I first "got into" perfumery, I immediately hit up every single store in my immediate area. This was one of my earlier grabs. I honestly feel everyone should smell this at least once. Simple, green, and soapy; it's a hit with women, and is very much a "power" scent, for a ridiculously small amount of dime. Are there better scents out there? Of course! But at this price, there aren't many that can beat it.

majid24

Yes this one here resembles cool water but there is also a soapy laundry synthetic touch that annoys me while wearing it.... I dont like Cool water as well but i never got a headache or a bad vibe when someone is wearing it and i bought it just for a comparison but this blind buy is the first cologne i regret buying thank-god its worth only 9$....

2 Out of 10 for me!!!

Aspen is, unashamedly, one of my absolute favorite fragrances of all time.

It's a very clean, easy to wear, inoffensive, and long lasting fragrance. It smells exactly the same as it smelled the first time I smelled it; when a classmate accidentally spilled almost an entire splash bottle on the floor of my 8th grade science classroom. A couple girls cringed and a few expressed how much they liked Aspen, but the scent memory remains.

Almost 20 years went by between that first experience and when I actually bought a bottle for myself, and it still smells the same. I also regret having let so much time go by between then and about a year ago when I finally bought a bottle for myself. I can't get over how great a fragrance Aspen is.

The notes seem extremely well blended, especially for a fragrance made by Coty; maybe the difference between Aspen and fragrances Coty has reformu-hacked is that Coty developed Aspen and didn't just buy out a failing reform frag or a failing house who's cheapened everything in an attempt to keep in the black.

As far as notes go it starts out green and citrusy with herbal lavender in the background. As it dries down the cedar, juniper/fir, and a bit of earthy moss and a touch of soapy musk become more prominent. After about 4-6 hours most of the original green has faded and the lavender and citrus have all but disappeared and it stays a wonderful coniferous soapy musk with a bit of moss for the next 4-6 hours becoming more of a skin scent toward the end of this period. It keeps going as a skin scent much longer than the 8-12 hour mark depending on how warm (and sweaty) you get.

You want to talk about value for your money? Bang for your buck? Look no further because Aspen has you covered. Not only does it smell amazing, and last a long time, but a 4.2 oz bottle can easily be had for less than $10.

Also my wife loves it, so that's a huge plus in my book.

I haven't unintentionally left out the comparisons to Davidoff Cool Water; although there are some aspects that bear some resemblance to Cool Water, there is nothing aquatic about Aspen. That and I, personally, like Aspen exponentially more than Cool Water.

Geminiemerald77

This is somewhat a mild version of Green Irish Tweed by Creed. I also smell a bit of Calvin Klein Eternity and Estee Lauder Pleasures in this. Except the staying power is not very long-lasting. Other than that, very good stuff!!! One of my favs..

HighCountryEsq

Aspen is a wonderful cologne and I've worn it long before I ever heard of or smelled GIT. To be honest, I prefer Aspen to GIT and and after 25yrs I still catch myself smelling my wrist when I wear it. Personally I believe Aspen should be in everyones collection and for the price (around $8 for 4oz) it really is a no-brainer.

Fragrancist

I found an unopened bottle at home, tried it and loved the scent. Smells fresh and clean!

ratish11

I smelled the talcum powder on a friend and was blown away instantly. Tried the perfume, good, nothing mind-blowing. Pretty good is all. This one projects well. And if they ever decide to make an EDP of the same formulation, improving on the sillage and longevity, God help GIT.

Fonna2

Not reading any reviews so I do not get influenced. I bought this a while ago for my son. He never wore it, so I reclaimed it, and thought it the bottle smelled good enough to wear as a woman's frag. Well, it's definitely for men, imho.

Initial application ~ Acidy lime and herbal.
Lime note is constant and going more herbal.
Lime is disappearing passing by Chanel 5-ish scent, as if a woman just breezed by, but never quite getting there
Few florals I cannot make out, lime is constant but mellowing, but definitely herbal, green, lightly sagey, sweeter on the outer wrist than the inner wrist.
15 minutes later~ at this point rounding out nicely to a mellow lime with herbs, almost like Earl Grey with a smidgen of soap not bad.

I can't consider this a floral at all. It's a clean scent, pleasant. True aftershave scent. No staying power though.
Yeah, I can say it smells cheap.
I guess that's why he didn't wear it......lol

Faded out in 30 minutes, stays close to the skin at this point.

darthjames

Cheap. Effective. Smells like Cool Water. Ladies absolutely drool over it. What more can I say?

CodyJr

Smells like cheap cologne from middle school. Does not smell "green' to me... When I think green, I think Cerruti 1881 or Paco Rabanne PH.
This smells synthetic and cheap.
Gave to my stepson ( 12 years old).
It smells good on him but i hate smelling it on myself.

Just revisited this a year later and I still dont like it. But thr heart does smell like GIT!!!
Theres a cologne called Swiss Alpine that is very similar to this as well

georgequeue

This afternoon, my brother presented me with a 50 ml. bottle of this cologne, which I wasn't expecting...and it smells really nice!

Aspen is an all-year round fragrance that can be used for most casual occasions (i.e. going out with friends, BBQs, going shopping, etc.), when you don't need to impress anyone. It's mostly suitable for warmer weather, especially during the daytime; as for the similarity with Cool Water, I don't think it's exactly the same, but maybe the current formula of Davidoff's scent is. Longevity and projection are low, but, for the price, it's a pretty nice choice. It's never offensive, and it would be a waste to use it at a dinner or for dating.

To conclude, Aspen is a very nice, inexpensive cologne--a safe buy for those who are perfume amateurs and don't want to make a big statement, or cause an impression. It's been a nice Christmas present.

Very nice scent for the money. . It is very fresh and sophisticated green scent.

Smells like weaker version of precious not reformulated Cool Water by Davidoff. After 1 hour it smells like Indian spicey. A little bit bitter. Not a good fragrance for the dry down.

Or maybe the one I have is not original. Saw it selling real cheap and not sure whether is it original. But I just grap it since I cant find it anywhere.

FragNewb

Yes it smells like GIT but very cheap and synthetic. It gives me a headache which GIT never did.

LaurenBacall

Thoroughly masculine, though wearable by women, too. Pine-y, though I'm not sure if there's any pine in it, and one of the most creatively advertised fragrances I can recall.

dameharrietbond

This is really pretty decent, and a steal at the price. I'm a woman and wanted something clean, green, and fresh for very hot summer days, (and i hate aquatics) and this should fill the bill nicely. It does not smell cheap, is reasonably complex, enough to keep it interesting and to have some development. It probably contains just enough naturals to give it this complex non chemical feel. It is not groundbreaking or innovative, but there will be a use for it in my large fragrance collection.

mkpunk

Coty Aspen is a green smell alike of Cool Water. It's one of the cheapest scents in regards to price and cost per ounce. For the typical 4oz/125ml bottle of this fragrance, you can find it online for about $2.00USD/oz from eBay and Amazon. DO NOT buy this in stores. You'll easily pay double if not triple the price. It's not like other scents where you can get it for a dollar or two cheaper, this is a huge difference between online and brick and mortar.

Coty Aspen is one of the more versatile scents in comparison to the Cool Water style scents. I find this is because of the more green, mountain-man smell that comes with Aspen rather than Cool Water and its many similar aquatics with sea water or aquatic-like notes. This make the scent mostly unique to this style scent which is common today, a great thing since most just copy that and not try to be something different. To me, this and the cost are the fragrance's real pluses of Aspen. The scent also lasts about a day of work as well.

The good comes with the bad though. For one, the scent while lingering as a skin scent through a work day don't really project. At best, you get about an hour of projection off one spray. Secondly, it smells far more synthetic than anything I've smelt and I don't typically have that nose. In all honesty, this was the first one I noticed it was synthetic. This includes various clones I've bought in Dollar Tree, Big Lots and Walmart. Does that make it bad, no but it isn't a good thing.

Overall Aspen is one of the better non-clones in a drug store. I still wouldn't pay drug store prices of $25USD for it because honestly, it is a ripoff especially when you can easily find it on eBay and Amazon for under $10USD. Overall I give Aspen a 7 out of 10 because it is unique enough since it is cool water minus the water and tobacco notes and it does last a workday but it doesn't project and even an unknowing nose can detect the synthetic scent from it.

broodingwhale

I agree with those who say it smells most similar to original Irish Spring soap. I don't get the GIT references, this is not nearly as "fresh" or well composed as GIT. If I get close to my skin to smell, it is quite strong and synthetic, which is what I would expect from a 90's aromatic fougere fragrance. If you want to smell like greens and clean linens (fir/citrus/lavender blend), this is a good bargain fragrance, but I don't really enjoy the smell on my skin all day. I blind bought a big bottle for $6 it and use it sparingly as a air/linen freshener.

TL;DR: Oh, why not try it?

Aspen by Coty has a reputation as being the "cheap" alternative to Davidoff Cool Water. I'm not going to get into a discussion about which fragrance is the dupe for which and how similar they are. This is a review for the fragrance I experienced on a boyfriend of mine from a couple of years ago. He loved this scent. He was an NYPD cop and he thought this fragrance was refreshing, summery, cool and casual. He wore it every day at work and acquired a matching aftershave. He would kiss me before he went off to work and this scent always brought me pleasure.

I don't see this scent as being like Cool Water. Cool Water smells like a man's ritual in the bathroom first thing in the morning. He showers, he puts on soap, he lathers, he steps out of the shower, he wraps a towel around his waist while shaving his facial hair and puts on an aftershave. The Cool Water cologne is easy on the nose, aquatic, and very fresh and like an extension of an aftershave, so he spritzes on some Cool Water and puts on clothes. That's what Cool Water has always been like for me.

Aspen by Coty is a trip to Aspen Colorado. It's the moment of arrival on a cool winter's morning. The mountain air is frigid but energizing. It's like being on the top of a mountain slope when you go skiing. Whereas Cool Water is an every day fresh aquatic after-shower scent, Aspen is a sports cologne to wear while skiing! Maybe I'm exaggerating. At least it could be a cologne for a guy to wear while traveling or while on a vacation. It smells like a mountain, like a ski resort. It's outdoorsy, a nature scent, green in color and tone, fresh, somewhat floral, somewhat woodsy, mossy, a fir tree scent, balsamic, aromatic and superb.

This isn't aquatic. It's oxygen. The first spritz of Aspen is a fresh citrus, not sparkling but coldly sharp and very in your face with the pairing of citrus fruits: bergamot orange and lemon. The green galbanum, my all time favorite note, appears and creates an outdoorsy natural forest smell. It's galbanum alright. It's also nocturnal, like being alone on that mountain, when the moon is out, and the scent of fir trees, pines, oak trees and moss is perfuming the air around you. It's a wilderness scent, aromatic, and woodsy.

But it isn't all woodsy. Aspen has a floral side. Your nose will detect some sweeter notes of juniper berry embracing flowery scents of orange blossom, lavender and geranium. Orange blossom is a note I've enjoyed in many women's perfumes. I wish the orange blossom was heavier but it seems to be there at the very end of the trail of citrus. The heart is mostly floral with lavender, a pastoral lavender which comes off as unisex/masculine, aromatic, spicy and like a fougere's lavender top note. The lavender is also mixed with geranium, which to me has always smelled like a more masculine rose. This fragrance is more floral than Cool Water and nothing like an aquatic floral at all. It's a chypre. This is a man's chypre fragrance of citrus, flowers and woods.

The wooden notes are redolent with cedar wood, oak moss, the same moss that hangs from trees and perfume the night air. There is no musk but there is a balsamic note which can almost pass for something like musk. It's dark green like actual green moss which grows all over trees even right on the bark. In the depths of the woods and moss is an amber, a straight gooey clean amber like amber from a tree, sitting there and collecting the aroma of the tree. The dry down is especially masculine, resinous and dark. The cool freshness of the opening is long gone and it's like you've spent a whole day in the mountains, the skiing is over and you retire to bed, your nose still able to smell the trees.

Aspen is a very affordable fragrance, not cheap. The note are perfectly harmonic with one another, and this fragrance was created as a labor of love. Coty is my favorite fragrance line, even after years of experiencing so many countless lines. Coty is always a winner. This is a fragrance I love to smell on men as much as I like Cool Water. I don't know if guys layer fragrances but I'm sure this scent would be welcome when layered with Cool Water. This is more masculine and outdoorsy than Cool Water, it's not mind blowing but as a green scented chypre this is a masterpiece.

JamesAQ4

synthetic pine sweetness mess. bought it years ago, couldn't stand it for how cheap and chemically it smelled- a time when i really liked old spice, even had some addidas and axe scents. I've smelled GIT since then.. no simalrity to me. I don't understand.. is it that they both have one or two ingredients in common? it's like comparing lemon pledge to fresh lemon.

shavenonthedarkside

Irish spring in a bottle. It is just as good as cool water. Many people have tried this in high school and middle school and are just sick of this scent, because it has been worn out. However, this sent is a very good scent at $9.

This is also a very good option over top of cool water, because the new formulation of cool water is not as strong as this. It is similar to Cool Water, if someone passed you or was in your scent bubble they would not be able to tell the difference between cool water and this.

I do not know about green Irish Tweed,
but at $9 and the good sillage that this fragrance gives you it can compare to any fragrance for being a solid dumb reach cologne.
Also, this fragrance does not smell dated. It is simply a fresh all year around fragrance and wonderful for work too. My score for this one is 8 out of 10 for price, longevity, smell and versatility.

Cool water with a little pine.

Lightning

If current Cool Water (aquatic) and vintage Cool Water (green) had a baby, it would be Aspen.

Forget Freeman

I have a bottle for myself and bought a bottle for my brother who does a lot of trekking about. It's a "pick me up" outdoor fragrance and the cologne title (as opposed to EDT) is spot on, this is a light fragrance and doesn't last particularly long.

Best used in spring/summer.

Comparisons with Davidoff's "Cool Water" are understandable and unavoidable. However there is some distinction between them. Aspen goes more "green" whereas Cool Water goes more the aquatic road. To put a visual to it, Cool Water is what I would put on for a day relaxing in the sun whereas Aspen would be what I would put on if I was going fishing.

Aspen (IMHO) is a fresh affordable scent that is well worth a purchase, its distinct enough to be bought along with Cool Water and if you are a fan of one you will most likely enjoy the other.

Nice :)

LuxAestiva

The opening is so nice and refreshing but as theXRC mentions in a review below, there is a syrupy, sappy sweetness that just totally turns me off. I love green fragrances so much, but any sweetness ruins them completely for me. It makes me think of rancid apples.

braegann

This is a good cheapy for the summer/spring. It is a very appealing scent. Very fresh, clean, and green. It does remind me of cool water at first, but definitely has a greener vibe instead of aquatic. I like the smell a bit more then cool water; Aspen is more refined in my opinion. However, the longevity on this is very poor, it becomes a skin scent very quickly.

LordCharfield

I'm not a rabid fan of the GIT/Cool Water/Aspen type of frags, they're pleasant enough but not my favourite style of scent. I thought it worth jotting this down for your interest anyway. I think all 3 smell similar, but the purpose of this review is to comment on the longevity. I found a small bottle of Aspen yesterday, in a drawer. I purchased this as a reference bottle 18 months ago for approx £5. I sprayed it to test it, then abandoned it, leaving it in the drawer.
Ayer finding it in the drawer, I decided to wear it last night, as I was only going to be sitting in front of the TV. I always test what I'm wearing on the back of my left hand, then have something different on the other hand to stop me becoming bored. This is so sad lol!
Anyway, to get to the point, I applied this to the back of my left hand at 5.45pm yesterday, and at 1030am, it's still sitting there, intact and recognisable. I'm absolutely amazed! My wife really likes these scents, whereas I'm a bit indifferent.
I have to say, I've been buying Arabian fragrances recently, partly because many Western perfume houses are ripping us off/letting us down with performance and quality issues.
Many Arabian perfumes deserve the hype that they get in the fragrance community for their quality, variety, performance and value for money.
Well, now I know that I have another scent, albeit Western in origin, that, as a cheap (I don't think that it smells cheap) purchase, puts the more expensive perfumes to shame - with a few honourable exceptions, of course.
In my opinion, if you like this type of fragrace, this is well worth sticking in your collection as its a real bargain!
P.s. I've just realised that there's a review that I did back in November 2014.
I've compared this review with the last one, and at least I'm consistent lol!

no-fi

By chance, I picked up a vintage bottle with the metallic cap described in one of the reviews just below. And let me tell you, it smells phenomenal.

Aspen's opening is eerily similar to Cool Water, but I much prefer Aspen's dry down. The thing is, I don't actually like Cool Water - well, I didn't like it the one and only time I sprayed it on my skin. So when I first tried Aspen, I was a bit disappointed.

I persevered, however, and now I'm quite fond of Aspen. The Cool Water/Aspen style is commendably different to most of the other men's fumes released in the late '80s, standing apart from even that towering giant of proto-aquatics, Aramis New West. The scent is refreshing - as refreshing as what it signified: a break from the past.

The real revelation here, however, is to always trust your nose. Scent groups will always let you down. Aspen is an aromatic fougere; Cool Water is an aromatic aquatic; Green Irish Tweed is a woody floral musk. What does my nose say? The openings of all three are pretty much the same. By the same token, note pyramids will also let you down. What does GIT share with Aspen or Cool Water? Nothing. It's the composition that counts. Trust your nose.

Back to Aspen itself - it's a beautiful green aquatic. I disagree with those who say it has a mountain freshness. There's a saltiness to it that makes it more like a coastal stream flanked by a pine forest. Let's put it this way - Cool Water is the churn of the surf; New West is the salty, dry forest by the hot summer shore; and Aspen is the mist that drifts in between. It's a true masterwork of inexpensive perfumery, and I'm glad I gave it the chance it deserves.

MrHonest

I have the original formulation from 1989 and it's just gorgeous. The cap is a beautiful, metallic copper which distinguishes it from the newer bottles (as shown in the picture above). Although the initial blast is a very harsh pine and cedar, you need to give this one 15 minutes to settle. The dry-down is a deep, piney greenness that takes me back to my childhood, like no other fragrance.

Imagine: On a fall day, you're standing in a pine forest breathing in the fresh air. You still have about 2 km to hike, but the view is totally worth it. At the summit, you can see a small lake nearby where a couple of deer are having a refreshing drink of water. Suddenly, the clouds part and the sun hits your face. If only this moment could last forever.

Think: Piney, Woody, Hearty, Invigorating, Crisp

Overall: 7/10 - for outdoorsman like me

fsulka

Today here in NE Ohio is a perfect day to wear a fragrance like Aspen. It is plenty cold outside and the snow is coming down. I've worn Aspen a few times now and I always dislike the immediate open. I don't think the top notes work well and It smells cheap to me. However, once the dry down starts and the mids hit with their floral fragrances it is splendid. I totally get the comparison to Cool Water. It does smell like that. And I love that smell. For me Green Irish Tweed does this type of smell best but then Aspen followed by Cool Water. The 3 have a similar vibe but what a difference in price points. Certainly between GIT and the other 2. I've reviewed GIT separately though and that dry down is what does it for me. Amazing. If you don't have the $ for GIT though get Aspen.

I think everyone should have Aspen in their collection. Aspen is easily one of the best values in the fragrance world. You will smell awesome and you will get compliments. Aspen is a BIG YES.

Lightning

Reminds me a lot of Cool Water, except Cool Water is a little spicier and more aquatic while Aspen is calmer and greener. But they're like 90% the same. It's probably closer to Green Irish Tweed than Cool Water, and while nothing will replace GIT for me, Aspen is a solid fragrance in it's own right.

I'd take it over 80% of the expensive niche fragrances out there. Despite all the complexity going on in the ingredients list, it's actually is very pleasant and wearable for men of all ages. For $10 you won't find a better value. Great first cologne for someone, but it's something I still own to this day as a collector.

trevorstilerocks

I just made a discovery! I paired my Aspen cologne to Zara Vetiver and whoa! I loved how a crisp mountain air complements with grassy vetiver. It also projects very well and surprisingly, it also extends the longevity of the scent. Both were colognes, so it's not overpowering even if sprayed sparingly.

NHNOse

It's messed up, so cheap and so good. Under $10. It's not my favorite scent, but is definately best bang for the buck. I get compliments all the time wearing this. 2 sprays is enough. I have been wearing this since high school 20 years ago when it was my signature scent. It is timeless. These days, it is just a casual scent, I only wear it when I am going out on quick errand a dont expect to be out long, but it still gets compliments at the hardware store.

So simple, yet so effective: maybe not too sophisticated, but always a decent choice for the 'oh, please, not another messy oriental extravaganza' guys who don't like overcomplicated situations. A classic? Indeed: a light, everyday classic.

Got a 4 oz bottle from Walmart for $11, not a bad cologne for the price. Very synthetic but still wearable for casual use or work during the day. If you like cool water, this is cheaper and pretty much the same thing. Both made by coty.

as cheap as it is, as cheap as it smells...synthetic C.R.A.P. - gave it to my son he likes it..he's 11...
If you had to choose a cheap edt, then buy yourself a Curve, a Nautica Voyage or sth. like that...

One of the cheapest fragrances you can buy, if not the cheapest. I got a 125ml bottle of this for around $10. This is essentially wilderness/outdoors in a bottle. I classify this as a "pine bomb". It's very one-dimensional, as you pretty much only smell green & pine throughout the whole duration of the fragrance. It's a nice smell, but way too synthetic for me personally. It smells like an air-freshener you would put in your car, or like irish spring soap. Overall a very fresh, but extremely synthetic smelling fragrance. The best, and pretty much the only time you should wear this, is during the Spring & Summer.

The performance is surprisingly pretty decent on this. I'd say I got a solid 8 hours wearing this. It projects pretty close to the skin, which is nice, in my opinion, because you could really overwhelm someone if this were to project too well. Longevity is average, and the projection is pretty subtle. This performs better than some of my "higher-end" fragrances, ironically.

Overall, I'd pass on this. There's simply no versatility in this fragrance. I can't think of any occasion where I would even attempt to go for this scent. It's too piney & too synthetic smelling for me to feel secure enough to wear this among other people. I would feel like a walking air-freshener, wearing this. I'm aware this is a cheap fragrance, and you get what you pay for, but save your money towards something better. Not to sound harsh, but I use this to spray the inside of my car, and my furniture. I don't mean to offend anyone, this is just simply my honest opinion. A nice smell, but not a nice cologne.

It's absolutely synthetic. If this is what GIT smells like, I would not want that either! It is a hardcore 80's and early 90's smelling cologne. Very different from what we have today. This'd be a very good after shave though. The top notes are out in the first few mins and then the soapy cedar kicks in. It stays on my skin (dry) for about 2 hours. The dry down is very very similar (if not the same) as CoolWater. One thing to keep in mind, don't go crazy on the spray :)

But I forget all of the above when I remember that I bought this for $9 off ebay and it still smells good than some of the colognes I had in the past. So not disappointed.

Heard many people liken this to Cool Water and Green Irish Tweed, but for me its more akin with Lattafa Raghba for man. Very fresh indeed.

Absolute perfect cheapie for every day summer use. Got a bottle for £8. Nice fresh opening with a slightly creamy dry down for me.

Highly recommended.

Very good office scent, or to have that when weekend times come. Really similar to GIT or CW it is not a question. Cost effective and really good, pine like opening and after that CW or GIT :-)

edit: still satisfied with this, really , longevity is not its strengths but when heading to office I feel the proper vibe what i want to feel to. :-)

EDIT: one bottle finished, ..weaker than CW, but till I go to the office it lasts, and might after that comes the olfactory fatigue.. or so , then got the price its a real alternative to the above:-)
