Bois d'Argent by Dior is a Woody Chypre fragrance for women and men. Bois d'Argent was launched in 2004. The nose behind this fragrance is Annick Menardo. Top notes are Iris, Cypress and Juniper Berries; middle notes are Myrhh and Patchouli; base notes are Woodsy Notes, Honey, Vanilla, Amber, Resins, Leather and Musk.

Bois D`argent is a part of the collection of three fragrances: Bois D`argent, Eau Noire and Cologne Blanche. All three bottles were designed by Hedi Slimane, who was in charged for Dior’s prestige Pour Homme pret-a-porter collection. Annick Menardo is the creator of this unisex fragrance. Aromatic juniper berries, smelling dry and fresh, cypress and cold – powdery iris create the top of the composition. The heart is sweet – woody with an intensive aroma of incense, contributed by Somalia myrrh, patchouli creating winey, woody aroma, characterizing chypre fragrances. The base adds up warmly and sensual with vanilla, musk, amber, woody notes, honey and leather scent. The perfume has been on market since 2004, as well as the other two, available as 125, 250 and 500 ml eau de cologne.

Lovely iris that starts with nice and refreshing cardamom and develops into softer and powdery scent. The base is sweet and woody, but in general it’s very light scent. Like a beautiful vail from fairytale about elves :) In love!

Why is it weak actually the weakest of the privé line..
sillage is very poor!
Does anyone experience the same issue?!

iuliagabriela

I'm wearing this ethereal beauty today, and it reminds me of wandering through a forest as it turns green in spring. To me, this is an iris woody scent, with traces of green vanilla and perhaps myrrh. It's a very specific scent profile which I would recognize anywhere, and I crave it often. It's very fleeting, however, so I would not invest in a bottle beyond my decant. I do have two dupes and they are pretty spot on, so I'm happy enough with that.

Ferg1

Not bad and that's what i think of most of the Dior Privé collection. Cannot convince myself to really love anything they do and buy a full bottle. Bois d'argent is my favourite one of the private line but again it doesn't hit me, it doesn't have to especially with designers private lines but there's always something missing, can't exactly explain what. It's soft, mass appealing, linear. Will sample it and give it a full wear to judge.

Bois d'argent is so over used in Switzerland and France you just can't imagine how popular it is. I don't know about the other countries.

Performance seems to be very very poor on paper, and reading the reviews confirmed my idea. I don't pay over 300$ for skin scents.

Ilikewhatilike

This didnt work for me. The immediate spray I got some Iris but then a dusty hay or stray note dominated the remained of the wear. May be a combination of vegetal Iris with slices and resins, but I couldn’t get the straw from a rabbit pen out of my mind.

Jarlai

It’s subtle, smooth and distinctive. When you think it’s gone it gives you sniffs here and there, to remind you it’s always with you. I have smelled this on women and it’s just as good.

zawwarahmad

I thought I would like this.... but here is my review of the old batch.

top notes: lipstick damp kind of smell. Wet damp smell is hard to describe but not sure if its the cypress doing that.
middle notes: citrus follows and almost smells like a book store at this point. this is what i get when people talk about the smokiness.
base: i still get some sweetness here but its abit light on skin

poor performance overall, interesting fragrance. Not a crowd pleaser, if anything, kind of strange.

Advantageous01

Mildly sweet honey and woods with a touch of incense. Disappointing both in scent and performance, especially since this could be quite nice if it were a bit more potent. This is coming from someone who is not a fan of loud fragrances and can excuse lackluster performance of beautiful scents, but for the scent profile (and price) there's no excusing how flat and short-lived this is.

spritzluvr

i have a 2ml tester of this fragrance. there is a sort of smokey factor to this scent. i definitely get the lushness and complexity of honey and amber but the smokiness of the myrrh is also very present. definitely unisex but not cologney at all - it is rich and sweet but not sugary. i don't get much woodiness from this fragrance in the sense that it smells outdoorsy, but rather a woodiness that smells earthy and natural of that of incense or patchouli. a 70s vibe almost? personally for me it's not my typical cup of tea and not something i would typically reach for for my day to day life, but i do appreciate the complexity of it.

Trendkill97

Soft, smooth, creamy, beautiful vanillic-amber at its core, with a dash of spices, that work well balancing the sweet elusive nature of the scent, comforting and classy, resins, making it fluffy, slight patchouli and lovely woods like shimmering dust toning down the sweetness. Beautifully crafted perfume.

Anastasia.A

Spicy, ambery vanilla. A type of fragrance that is not for me. If you like Ani, Nishane (which I don't like either), you will like this one as well. 5/10

ballerinanoir

I tried this today and I think it smells like something… baked?
I dont get woodsy notes. To me it is basically honey, vanilla and amber. Only a tad of incense at the very spritz.
Overall, it is a very nice fragrance and I can t remember smelling it anywhere else.

Fabio01

A masterpiece by Annick Menardo... so unique. Iris and honey make the show. Addictive and seductive fragrance... really memorable scent. more manly in my opinion. 10/10

Wonder.
For me Bois D'Argent is something extremely classy, elegant and timeless.
An iris that is not excessively dusty, bright, clean, sensual and perfectly blended with the green notes and woods.
The result is something exceptional, wearable on any occasion and which gives an innate class.
Beautiful.
And how could we not dedicate "The Girl with the Turban", also known as "Girl with the Pearl Earring", painted by Vermeer to him.

astralmonad870

Lightly honeyed green spicy woods with an airy quality from the resins and amber

chyan

Ive loved this for a long time and I just picked up a bottle but the performance and silage on the new formulation is horrible, especially for the price tag. I didn’t realize it smelled like Bois d’ Iris until someone pointed it out below and it does smell quite a bit similar. Bois d’Iris is cheaper and stronger but very heavy on the woods. I do prefer the light and fluffy touch that the Dior brings. Dry woods with hints of Iris and vanilla - truly a masterpiece.

yazzakasbah

On paper:
Now this is weird!
A strong smell of creamy light wood. Some green non sweet vanilla. A slight herbal touch. Buttery Iris and resins.

It's gentle and a little strange. Fascinating!

On skin: The same. It is very interesting. But just interesting is not what I need from a perfume. Seems a little conceptual instead of enjoyable.

It really is commendable, but It's too odd and distracting for me.

jhindsb

I’ve been enjoying classic woody chypre lately, this one almost fits the bill. The patchouli is front and center for me. But it’s more resinous than a traditional powdery patchouli. Woody honey pulls through in the background. There’s also a slight element of….church pew? I think that could be the myrrh. I’m not mad about it though. Gives it a slight gothic element. Love this as a true unisex, cool weather scent. Not sure if i love it enough to own it, but I will savor my sample for now. If only the iris and juniper, notes i absolutely love, pulled through a little more and it weren’t such a patchouli bomb. I would stay far away from this in warmer months.

gedlive

This smells like a great classic chypre. It is I think.
It reminds me of a favorite, French Lover by Frederic Malle. There it's Vetiver and Iris, here it's Myrhh and Iris. A great contrasting accord in both fragrances.
So this is Myrhh, leather and woods in the base. The cypress which I love, could be stronger, but a nice accent here to the woods.
The iris gives it a soft classy touch, beautiful.

stolenrims

This is what Tuxedo Winnie the Pooh smells like. Woods and honey all dressed up.

Poor performance for real though.

maplesyrup

Oulipo: Bois d'Argent translates to "silver wood". Does silver birch come to mind?

httrung32

This fragrance is a complex and sophisticated blend of sweet, woody, creamy and powdery notes, with a hint of honey and leather in the background. It has a warm and cozy character that lasts for hours, but it does not overwhelm the senses with its subtle to moderate projection. It is perfect for intimate date nights, as it invites closeness from your partner. And by closeness, I mean cuddling, kissing, and maybe more 😉. I have worn it a few times and received positive reactions from people around me, especially some young girls who seemed intrigued by my scent and gave me flirty glances. I really enjoy this fragrance, but I wish it had more projection and sillage, as I paid a premium price for it and I want to stand out more with it.

nonijan

I'm shocked that no one has mentioned the opening smelling like photorealistic wool/cashmere. I was wearing a cashmere sweater the day that I tested it in store and for the first hour it smelled like I was pressing my nose into the wool.

It dried down to a very sweet/creamy/sophisticated amber/vanilla scent. My skin tends to bring out all the sweeter notes in fragrance.

Overall, it's really nice but I've been veering away from wearing sweeter scents for myself. Maybe I'll come back to it at some point.

yomex

Dior this is very painful. How and why do you have to water down these beautiful scents. These are some of the most beautiful scents I ever smelt but the longevity and silage are one of the most terrible I ever seen in a perfume of this caliber especially when you consider the price paid. Must you water down these beautiful scents. I spend this much on a perfume and I want to smell myself over and again throughout the day. I ask my kids if they can small me and its an outright NO. I was about to splash on an Ambre Nuit but after the grossly disappointingly weak performance of the Bois D Argent i don't intend to anymore. Even the clones are performing better on this one. I will score this a 2.5 on strength and longevity. Please bring back the original formula.

Frabra88

Somber, moody, mysterious, gothic even....a fantastical scent fit for a lake nymph, or a dark creature of the forests...one that longs for warmness but it is forced to remain cold and unforgiving, just to survive.
Unisex to the core.
I find it eatherial, elegant, darkly romantic, even eerie at tracts.
First time I smelled it my mind was filled with the image of Ophelia drowning in a bed of flowers, dry erbs and cold water; a sort of synesthesia that haunted me all day with images of the famous painting by John Everett Millais, but also made me think of the unearthly beauty of Elizabeth Siddal (of whome I had learned about during my history of make up studies); her pale snowy skin and auburn hair...which I imagine smelled like honey in the autumn sun.
They managed to recreate that atmosphere in a scent (or that of a Joy Division song, or of a E.A. Poe poem, if we will).
It was love at first sight for me.

Now, on to the scent itself: the opening is strong, strong cypress...evokes conflicting emotions in me, probably because it is the tree that adorns the abandoned cemeteries of italian's villages. Here it is fresh and profound, a little conifer, gives a free and airy sensation but at the same time it's grounding and broody, quite melancholic. It's so beautiful. The juniper berries accompanies it perfectly, with a light earthy touch, aromatic, woody, and measured. Just a tad masculine.
The heart is all honey though...you can feel it already in the opening, trying to steal the spot of cypress, it wants to give its warmness and sweetness, its cuddly nature...but it is shackled, never truly exposed to its full sugary potential. So, it stays somber too, only in the dry down it becomes more sweet thanks to the vanilla. This is not a particulary raw honey but it is quite dry and "herbal".
However, what truly holds the soul of the scent is the iris and myrrh combo, which is the base of the nostalgic aura the perfume has. This iris is classic and elegant, aromatic and powdery, made shadowy by some incense, and very cold and damp...not only in temperature, but also in the emotions and imagery it evokes. A little detached. Myrrh is bitter, yet vibrant and sensual like only the balsams can be. Some of it remains in the dry down also, thogheter with some more warm resin. They impart a royal, aristocratic character to the fragrance.
The patchouli is well blended in all this mix, it adds that extra touch, never resulting outdated or out of place (as I was fearing), and it goes really well with the woods, their combo reads almost as smoked and dry tobacco-y...from time to time a boozy/alchoolic sensation can be felt too, but perhaps it is just an illusion given by the juniper berries.
One aspect I didn't especially pick up is the leathery accord, if some of it is here it's more suede then true leather.
The dry down is sensual and warm, and inviting in its complexity; this creates a beautiful and moving duality with the coldness of the opening and mid.

The aromatic, balsamic, powdery and woody accords it's what stands out on my skin, then I would say earthy, honey and incense, but, at least on me, this is never truly sweet as some other peopole find it to be. It's as if it wants to, but it can't! And this aspect makes me love it even more!!! It's like a battle is taking place!
Moreover, there is more to it then just the declared notes and derivated accords, as often it's the case...for instance there is a sort of withered and essicated flowers touches, some dry moss, incense, and a damp/humid accord.
This is a perfume for wich I would gladly pay again a premium price...complex and multifaceted.
It sings to my soul.

I find both lasting power and projection good, especially if oversprayed.
It pairs well with the first spring's days of sun, but it projects deliciously during the rainy autumnal's days.
I had heard a rumor about a discontinuation so I furiously searched on the Dior website, month after month, and I can confirm it is just a rumor for now since it is still sold. Also, considering the price this has, I am happy to report that it is now sold in a 40ml version too, for 130,00 €, in line with niche standards.
Many version of this were put on the market, the one I am reviewing was bought in 2021, so I shall leave my review here, on the last edition.

Has anyone layered Bois d'argent with EDEN ROC , I think it can be a fantastic mix

SNKIOP

Fall Scent: 7/10 For me this is warm and cozy, perfect for a bit colder fall weather. Clear scent of myrrh with hints of honey. It's pretty light, unoffensive. It's a calming scent and gets sweet and powdery in the dry down. Silage 3/10 Longevity 5/10

natk

I love and I hate this perfume. It has pretty much become my signature scent but I will not be repurchasing it after I finish my huge 100ml bottle.

1. Scent - 10/10 for me. Reminds me of Scottish Highlands, that fragrant forest air, specifically the forest you hike through (on West Highland Way) before entering Tyndrum. I know, It's crazy specific :-) Woody, mossy, barely sweet, damp, barely warm, mysterious, nostalgic, philosophical, etc. So well blended that talking about separate notes is pointless. Masterpiece.

2. Performance is why I will not be repurchasing it. 2 out of 10. I do not like loud perfumes. In fact, I think it is rude to fill the room with your perfume if I did not consent :-) So I like "polite" perfumes with a small but steady bubble. This one becomes a skin scent very quickly. The odd thing is that I get whiffs of it if there's any significant air movement (wind or even a/c) even after 4-6 hours but only short-lived whiffs :-( It's not good enough for me, I want to enjoy this divine scent ALL the time, not just when I go outside and it's windy there.

So, I think after I finish my bottle I will just keep it empty and sniff it from time to time and replay my vacation in the Highlands that obviously stole my heart. Or maybe I should just move to Scotland and enjoy that fragrant air whenever I want :-D

michelmanuel

i bought it without testing because of a recommendation, since then it's been my absolute favourite. although it's quite expensive, imo totally worth every penny. smells like money - as the name suggests. LOVE IT

Tomya

When this dries down, it smells a lot like Acqua Di Parma's Ginepro Di Sardegna, a discontinued masterpiece.

FragMaster

This very light. When I first tried this I thought Dior had given me a dud in that I couldn’t smell anything but a faint alcohol smell. Very briefly after I began to detect mainly a faint honey, myrhh, cypress and Iris combination, with some ambers and woodsy notes. It just isn’t strong, but it stays on skin, and it has a very addictive quality. With this you need to really overspray to get the most from it.

Anabee

This smell is soo familiar. It reminds me of a spring day in Paris many years ago. I was at Versailles in one of their merch stores and they had postcards, tiny trinkets and tin cans filled with tea. That tea was so aromatic that it left a faint but perceptible whiff in the entire store. The walls were covered with antique wallpaper and that also left an aroma, which mixed with the tea and the spring air from outside. This is what Bois d’Argent smells like to me. It’s a daylight spring scent that is just so classic and timeless. Makes me instantly nostalgic for a time, I never lived in.

Like previous poster wrote: you’re on your own personal cloud with this one, your “minty” heaven.

(If you’re looking for a dupe: Éclat 929 is pretty good.)

wowoweee

to my unsophisticated nose, this smells like mint (which I assume is the myrrh), woods and iris. it reminds me of a misty day: dewy, calming and quietly beautiful.

what impresses me most about bois dargent is that for such an intimate perfume it has incredible longevity. I often find myself able to smell it 20+ hours later (even after a shower!), which is unheard of for my dry skin.

overall I think it’s a unisex masterpiece. it might not turn heads, but you won’t care because you’ll be in your own personal minty heaven.

BigHomieSmellsGood

If a nice cloud on a bright sunny day had a smell... Mixed with the smell of a cake baking... This is it. Sounds weird, but this stuff is magical. I have both the og and the reformulation I JUST bought last week.

Vintila R.

You have to be a huge fan of myrrh to like this one and I'm not. I'm not too fond of overly sweet scents either and this one gets sweeter and sweeter as my body heats. I was looking forward to experiencing the powdery touch of Iris in this fragrance but the combination with honey and amber makes this overwhelming and cloying to my nose, I had to wash it off after three hours. This scent is not thick but not as soft to be considered one of those "your skin but better" scents, as many reviewers state (the myrrh is just too heavy), and I would find it offensive if someone oversprays this at work. In my opinion, this is not safe for sensitive noses.

AntonioM

Some time ago I got a sample of Bois d'Argent from my DIOR boutique and I found the scent very intriguing so I went on to buy a 250 ml bottle. But when I started to wear it I noticed that it did not last long at all, I was crushed and disappointed to say the least.

One day I was looking for something new to wear in my perfume samples collection and came across a 1 ml Orto Parisi Bergamask which smelled pleasantly citrusy and I wore it to work. I was so happy to have found a strong perfume that I could potentially buy.
But boy, was I wrong... Thoughout the day Bergamask seemed to get louder and louder, to the point of being obnoxious as the scent lingered in the room even after I left.
I could not wait to get home and wash it off.

The next day I went back to my Bois d'Argent and this time everything fell into place, I could really appreciate the subtle elegance, the whispering whiffs, the fleeting beauty of this fragrance.
Warm like a summer breeze, soft like the sunrays from behind the trees. Creamy like it naturally belongs to your skin.

Rediscovering Bois d'Argent has fueled my interest in DIOR and I think I'm ready for my next Privée line purchase.

SparkyKatie

Nice perfume but only nice.. I’m for more multidimensional scents.. it’s lovely but nonetheless extraordinary..
Starts with a sweet and resinous taste, with a slight tone from juniper and cipress a little medicinal too.. then the iris and the powdery scent comes out and grow up loud..after one hour or so the perfume is a beautiful creamy powdery scent like some baby wipes on the gourmand side I’ll tell with the leather that smoothly emerges.. but after 3/4 hours is gone.. I don’t get nothing even from my skin nor from my sweater..
Not worth FB there are better scents

Icarel

One word only: Divine. 1000000000/10.

HappyDays

This smells nice on a card for a long time, but the top is lost quickly on skin. The cypress gives it an interesting twist, though I didn’t enjoy the cypress as much. The woody dry down is beautiful. The musk in the base is sweet and pleasant and lasts more than 12 hours as a skin scent.

Descartes

Bois d'Argent is a straightforward creamy resinous Myrrh scent and smells absolutely divine: sweet, sensual, luscious, elegant, alluring, smooth, buttery, and gourmand in many ways. The rest of the notes listed are so well blended that they only add more character to the Myrrh rather than confusing the nose with many olfactive stages.
For me personally is a masterpiece, one of the best perfumes in my collection. 4 seasons, unisex. Similar to Annick Goutal Myrrhe Ardente.
Straightforward creamy Myrrh. I get endless compliments every time I wear it.
There is nothing repulsive or alcoholic as Laurus suggests in her comment about Bois d'Argent; you should be more knowledgeable about perfumes before leaving your comments, this kind of review misleads and confuses people to decide or not to buy a perfume.

pinktoad

This is a powdery woody scent with an almost sweet hay note, that mixed with the leather reminds me of a stables. It gets sweeter as time goes on and becomes a little cloying.

lessthanzero

in defense of bois d’argent:

I sometimes think I am becoming anosmic to it - I spray it on skin and can’t smell a thing. But then reliably I get wafts - powerful wafts.

Temperature change? BAM. Waft.
Sudden breeze? BAM. waft.
Flop down on the couch? BIG WAFT.

Biggest indicator - when I get these wafts, I see others close to me look around, searching for that smell… Today it happened getting into an uber - 12 HOURS after application.

gotoperfume

Not my favourite from Dior, it's just a light creamy fragrance that sits close to the skin. Happy I sampled, not full bottle worthy for me.

iszzieanna

Smells like warm woods with sugar cubes. Dry sauna and honey. No myrrh or iris around here. The scent is also so faint, I almost didn’t smell it when spraying it on.

ginsengroot

I wanted to love this one so bad but the juice is so weak! Gorgeous iris at the opening, the kind of smooth iris that Dior is known for, coupled with a spicy myrrh and creamy vanilla underneath it. The honey and wood notes at the base appear more on the drydown for me, and it morphs into a sweet, dry, wheat-y scent, almost like how I remember Honey Nut Cheerios would taste. The killer is that the formulation I have, like many others have recently said, is just so damn faint and lifeless it renders this wonderful scent unwearable outdoors. I would love to reconsider this if I could ever find an older formulation.

_ef

To my nose this smells very sweet, but has some kind of dry quality to it that makes it lean more masculine. Somehow it reminds me of a freshly opened pack of marshmallows, but at the same time you realize it's a very mature scent and would not fit youngsters well.

The-G-Empire

I like this fragrance, but it’s just so faint.

gedlive

Wow, this is another great fragrance from the Dior Privee collection.
Compliments to the Perfume who crafted this. I love fragrances that balance contrasting notes, and balance them into unique and wonderful fragrance accords.
Ashen insence fragrances can feel too cold and dry, but this balances it with a little honey scent, not very sweet at all. The Iris goes further to soften the dry and slightly bitter woody notes, there may be a bit of bitter green galbanum here?
I like the cool green juniper and cypress on top, there is some creamy amber/ labdanum in the base that smooths the whole composition.

On second wearing I noticed from the mid to drydown, it becomes more simple and enjoyable; the fragrance accord is Iris, Myrrh, and something bright and fresh, in a green way.
I'm 🤔 it's cashmeran, a synthetic wood note as in Frederic Malle Dans Te Bras. A little honey remains also.

This is a little more darting fragrance than Ambre Nuit, another Dior favorite. This was another blind buy. I think they make the Privee collection pretty much mass appealing. The few that I have now have great quality notes and the crafting and blending are exquisite as well.
Since I have a large niche collection, their small 40 ml bottles are great. They look great, are not too small as to look like a decant, and they are affordable at about $125.
I think I may be adding a few more...

Rating: 9.5/10

God bless. John 3:16.

Put this one on tonight (great bedtime scrnt) and it’s reminding me of tapioca pudding!

Scent_Oasis

It's hard to believe this scent is so beautiful, it feels like you're in a distillery where the frshly picked up floral petals are being extracted to essences. This amber and patchouli is mixed with a dark citrus and spice to create something incredible. Stick around for the end to experience the olfactory climax as this fragrance reaches a final, invigorating point. .Drenched into darkness of the falling night, it surely smells deep and musky ,also rich and wholly sensual. This fragrance is composed of alluring notes of blackberry, cassis, and vanilla that are accented by malevolent hints of patchouli., vetiver and and rare balsams. It is suitable for any occasion, from a night of passion to a day at the office.

betsyglez8

Wood , berries , vanilla , touch of honey leather .
This is unisex but it’s a work of art. Honestly
Very well blended , not to strong actually gives me very
High end top vibes.
This is a must in a collection

lessthanzero

I own this fragrance, and wear it often, yet I still find it difficult to describe. Here goes:
Sophisticated, Classic, Shape-shifter, Totally unique

Opening:
Champagne, juniper, cypress burst fading to buttery iris and medicinal/sour elemi.

Drydown:
Warm and sweet (honey) -OR- Aloof and resinous (myrrh) -OR- Vanilla -OR- Patchouli -OR- Shiny leather -OR- Powdery musk -OR- …A combination thereof

Bois D’Argent is a crowd pleaser, but still manages to smell unique and new (at least in the USA, where it is relatively unknown.)

I think it certainly is a *masterpiece,* but it is an incredibly nuanced and ever-changing scent. It changes based on weather, on your mood, on the humidity, on the amount of empty space in the bottle... It can be borderline gourmand, a smoky club scent, a cozy at home scent, a sexy soccer mom scent, or a super-rich rapper scent.

I have tried both the 2004 original and the 2018 reformulation (of which I own the giant bottle.) They ARE different by maybe a margin of 10%. I personally think the 2004 smells better (lighter, more unusual). The 2018 is sweeter/ more ambery, but performance is 100x better than the 2004. Happy to own the 2018.

mateuszolech072

Comparing the new one and previous one… again as with Eau Noire there are differences, but it’s still very similar to previous version. Anyway codes of formulas are different. New one may smell a little bit stronger, but if someone would give me to samples blindly to smell probably I wouldn’t be able to tear them apart. Maybe new one is heavier on honey note and tiny bit sweeter…

Starts off dry and reedy, like bamboo or papyrus paper. It smells distinctly like the wood bead seat covers taxi drivers use in Hong Kong during the summer time. Eventually it morphs into a sickly milky kind of scent.

ilaria903

This is so enchanting. Woods and Iris get into a perfect blend.
It's 100% unisex to me and just so alluring.
Magic in perfumery is real as this fragrance shows. 🙌

Chesco

Lemon + Elemi Resin + Honey sweetness + Cypress green bush + Soapy Iris + White Vanilla Absolute + cooling smoking note of Myrrh + a touch of White Musk + smallest touch of blue berry (or Juniper Berry) + small Florals + dark Wood + a touch of leather + smallest hint of Patchouli to give an earthiness

Same pine resin scent genre as Xerjoff's 'Zefiro' and Byredo's 'Gypsy Water'.
Elemi Resin, the Cypress and the Myrrh are the leading players in this fragrance.
Myrrh lovers will absolutely like this!
Freshly brewed tea vibe to the dna.
Decent quality ingredients. Fairly strong of silage vs the rest of the Private line.
Beautiful, calm, relaxing, cozy sweater kind of scent. Would be gorgeous for an office setting, giving the gift of this fragrance to all your co-workers.
Personally im not obsessed with it and doesn't quiet fit my personality type, so im not ranking it as high, but i completely respect this dna as it works and it's really beautiful.
I 'Like' but not a 'Love'. (*Edit: I fell in LOVE with this scent genre in the fall, my nose changed lol)
This is one of those fragrances that has to fit your personality or place you're wearing it at.
Has the same vibe comfy/content luxury vibe as Dior Homme Intense/Parfume, think cozy sweater. Im glad this exists.
My only issue with this fragrance is the poor performance where it sits too close to the skin.
Tbh, I'm disappointed by Dior's Private Line for it's frag's performance, paying customers at those prices deserve better.

4/5 Woofs!

b1ad3

Absolutely beautiful fragrance, but not near as strong as I’d like it to be. A fart in the wind has more sillage.

Scent: 4/5
Longevity: 2/5
Sillage: 1/5

zestybloom

I smell something off in this the whole composition smells nice then a distinct like a hot receiver or pungent moss in the forest fermented I don’t know but it is so unpleasant to my nose

Zeeth

Good news everyone !!
Bois d'Argent is expected to be reformulated to smell similar to the original release in 2004.

aaronmilic

Testing this today, I don't really understand what this is supposed to be. At first I couldn't smell anything. After about 45 mins I could really smell bandaids and ointment. This is awful.

Fragaddict123

The iris here is one of the smoothest ones I smelled in fragrances
It’s not actually a good thing since iam a power freak when it comes to scents
I enjoyed it and it lasted for a good 7 hours but it was a very weak skin scent which wasn’t very appreciated with the price tag and all

Bashayersnose

Mmmmm this reminded me alot of my previous signature scent from chanel lexclusifs 1932. I smelled this couple days back while on vacation sampling perfumes in dior. Very very bright and seductive yet quite familiar with sophistication. The iris very evident in the opening as well as the powdery feel. The mix I'd wood and amber give it that kick of sophistication and the reason why I end up falling in love with certain scents (cuz I'm not a floral kinda gal but was surprised until I found out that woody notes get me everytime)

Chypre in general. Woody chypres in particular. Are my fave. But I would group this under floral woody chypre. I enjoyed it althroughout, however the sweet honey vanilla dry down is what I usually loathe. And unfortunately that's what it dries down to. Will give it few more chances as I was lucky to get a cute sample bottle from the ladies at dior.

One day, I was travelling in the south of France to see my family, and when I arrived, my brother and sister went down to help me with the luggages.
When We took the elevator, I was sniffing a very nice scent, i was smellkng some kind of D&G the one parfum mixed with IRIS, something very unique.
Then I knew it was my brother who were wearing the fragrance, I asked him: 'What the f**ck are you wearing ?" , Oh my god, this is excellent, never smelled something like this before. He looked at me and told me: how much are you ready to pay to know the name? my answer: whatever, f*ck off, please tell me, tell me, ......... "it's Bois d'argent. next month , Bam, bois d'argent was in my collection,
What a beautiful scent, the first hour , you get the spice and iris, and as it dry down, the iris became more smooth and the honey, the amber and vanilla mixed together with that IRIS king, I don't have words to describe this fragrance, just sample it, test it,
Fragrance can be very subjective depending on your skin and your liking.

possumke

Unfortunately I am totally nose blind to this fragrance. I don't get of any of the notes listed, just a faint trace of ....rotting mushrooms . I don't understand it. (And no, I have not had the virus)

I'm absolutely gutted that I won't get to experience all the good things others have described this fragrance to be :(

Fragrancewonder

Was a skin scent at first spray and it disappeared within an hour. I was so disappointed in the performance, for the price I would not recommend.

marcel2782

A very unusual, rich and balanced combination of myrh-resinous straight foward accord with bitter leather background from heart to base, enveloping a beautifull and delightful transition composed of sweet/flowered-kind of honeyed paired with a tiny bit bitter-dusty iris heart accord - a flower-like (not makeup-like) very natural and bitter iris. Completely unisex. I consider this a leather fragrance, due to the absolute prominence of the leather note in the background from the heart until very late drydown. I find that perfumes with such rich, balanced, unusual and in high volume notes and accords are meant to leave an impression more on other people than the wearer. Performance is average to strong, but then again, I'm testing a slightly "old" batch.

MNadz

Vs. others in this line….this is super meh. Nothing bad…nothing great.

On opening, I immediately get myrrh dancing around with honey and a touch of iris. As it dries, the combo smooths out to blend with woods and vanilla. I do not get Dior Homme at all…there is no lip sticky iris…nor is their a cleaner version of iris like Homme Eau. Iris is only here to smooth out the other more dominant notes. It’s blended well…as the notes all work very well to create a unique DNA. It’s just so forgettable IMO.

Longevity and projection are only average…which is a problem when paying this type of money. This is certainly unisex.

Overall, this is a big pass for me…very underwhelming and forgettable.

rolanddano

For me this is smells like Dior Homme mixed with tobacco.

IamdrinkingBeer

A warm milky honey-buttered cloud. I know this doesn't make any sense to anyone who didnt smell it, but that's how it smells to me. This alone has the power to make your day better. Magical stuff.

04/12/22 update on the thoughts on this: I believe in the opening, the iris gives it that waxy chalky smell, but it quickly develops from that to the sweet myrrh and honey with some dusty undertones.

jelder_2007

Reminds me of Byredo Gypsy Water A Little

jelder_2007

Smells like a nice lotion. Lasts a long time. Signature worthy

non.operational

This is a Love at First Sniff, for me. A beautifully soft but rich fragrance. Creamy, powdery wood, with the texture of milky white smoke. As if the iris, woods, honey, leather and myrrh have been left to gather dust and become faded like an old picture.

Arinamheem

I bought whatever version this is a week ago from Diors website. What a disgusting reformulation. This was my grail fragrance and I am beyond disappointed in what they did to it. Its now a skin scent that smells like pencil shavings - no honey or mhyrr. No mysterious vibe. Just shit. Why would they do this

Omina

1 of the top ten list ofy worst smells ever!; Really ?it smells like a sweet , old warehouse ,mixed with sweat ...it's smell "cheap"and try to force you to like it!!.(funny the number 2 of my hate list is also Cristian Dior's dolce Vita ,but that's un another story).

Emmasweetman

Bois d’Argent reminds me of the smell of a dusty antique shop with wooden floorboards and leather couches. Or the smell of a old wooden piano. It’s interesting and I like the detail. Just don’t know where or In what occasion I’d wear this. There’s definitely a cozy and warm feel about it too. Just wish it didn’t smell like a piano

mehdiab

Regal. The work that has been done by François Demachy at Christian Dior Perfumes is outstanding.
There are enough descriptive comments, just wanted to add that this is a true masterpiece.
Unfortunately, it became too popular :(...

Nickolas Fragrance

This is a safe, powdery iris fragrance, it's easily likeable, but nothing extraordinary. To me, this should be getting the attention that Prada L'homme currently has. This is the all occasion, inoffensive fragrance, clean and elegant. I personally only use it as an office fragrance or casual frag.
Also because it's so powdery it takes a few sniffs to actually smell it, it has good 8+ hour performance on skin although you'll need to wear it a few times to actually get used to the light whiffs every now and again.

Senteurnouveau

This fragrance is really really good,
Compliment getter from girls, it's my no brain fragrance,
it's an everyday fragrance but it shine more in intimate and close situation or at night because of the cosy effect it have,

sweet, mysterious and seductive scent,

If you have a date guys go for this one and thank's me later,

Zeeth

In France this one is more known than the Aventus,
Actualy this one is a sign of succes and wealthy here, they even have some expression with the word bois d'argent on it,
For curious people go check on Youtube they even make a french mini documentary of how this fragrance became a sign of succes and wealthy,

It's a really good fragrance depends on the batch you have you can have either a big or littlle sillage
Personnal experience on this frag with girls : I can tell you that they all love this one, but the problem is that it's too known here in France so a lot of people wear it or they wear clone of this one ...

blossomka

6/10. Play-Doh. Floral dessert with orange flower water. Leather or vinyl seat cover. Vanilla extract. Unusual and hard to describe.

Jessica_Jones

Smells like JHAG Not a Perfume + juniper to me, and even behaves the same, disappears quickly, but then somehow emerges later.

clemmy

I agree with many reviewers: this is a lovely scent, unique, but too close to skin scent since projection and longevity are weak and in my view not in line with the price tag.
It is excellent for who is not a lover of too powerful loud fragrances (is there anyone here really? :))) )
Good office scent, Test before buying, 3/5

manuelag

if this has sillage for any of its lovers, I would totally recommend them to try something with a real sillage, as this one is almost nonexistent. way overpriced and overrated. I can barely feel anything at all.

vineyardclub

10/10
simple and suttle
for me this lasted 24 hours plus
I sprayed 3 -5 sprays around 10 am
I could still get sent trail of it the next day
( bough it from dior online 2 weeks ago)

emerson10

This is a very warm, cozy, hug-like scent, albeit a bit cloying in the opening (though not particuarly strong). It opens in the most beautiful way-- resinous vanilla and myrhh, almost nutty, with hints of iris. The way the woody resinous notes blend with the iris creates almost a banana-like smell.

The dry down on me is banana runts + honey + myrhh + iris. At first, I feel I wasn't crazy about it, but I kept getting whiffs throughout the day of the dry down, which was soft and sweet and reminded me a bit of Le Labo Ambrette 9. A strong LIKE (but not love) for me. I think if I was craving a perfume with this vibe, I'd go for Hanae Mori over this.

EDIT: I find myself continuously reaching for this one! It is slowly growing into a love.

Mad-Demoiselle

I have it, it's very cozy, warm, and comforting.

it's a nose trip, how the iris fades, and the myrrh starts to escalate, after few hours the leather starts to mingle with one's skin and I think to a woman it becomes very feminine at this point

however, if you're tight on budget then definitely there are better alternatives

but it's definitely unique and I love both iris and myrrh

Digi3573

It smells clean and is very much just a skin scent . On me it doesn’t project at all . A nice scent but nothing special and definitely not worth the money

almightykcoolj

This is a BEAUTY. This iris and honey are to die for. This scent doesn’t project much , but it lingers like crazy. You’ll leave the room , and people will know you were there. You WILL get compliments with this one. Don’t worry if you can’t smell it on yourself, walk out then walk back in.

Callista25

Refined iris woody amber fragrance. Masculine-leaning to my nose. This is a nice versatile scent, but the price is high for the low performance.

sarahherbs

This reminds me so much of my father. He used to wear Jovan Musk and as a child, I remember curling up in the sink on the bathroom vanity to watch him shave. When he was done shaving, he would pat Jovan Musk on his chubby cheeks and suck his teeth pretending it stung. This always made me giggle. He would put a dab of cologne behind my ears before scooting me off so he could finish getting ready. To me, this smells like a super-luxe version of Jovan Musk. Creamy musk and powdery iris mixed with fresh wood shavings, pine sap, root beer, and indistinguishable fuzzy notes in the background. This is so well blended that it is extremely difficult to pinpoint particular notes, instead this fragrance has a distinct feel. I truly believe this was designed to tell a story or to impart a memory or feeling. While it makes reviews tricky, a sign of a well-calibrated fragrance is one whose notes are difficult to point out. We usually can't tell what notes we hear in the cord of a song unless one is off.

The story this perfume has for me is a walk through the forest on a crisp fall day. You wade through a fresh layer of crisp golden leaves and dried out pine needles. Underneath the dry brush, the earth's rich soil smells cold, wet, slightly musky, and vegetal. Bois D'Argent roughly translates to silver woods, but all I see and feel when I wear this is a butterscotch golden warmth that envelopes me. This perfume hovers above the skin and is simultaneously wet and dry, cool and warm, and sticky yet powdery. This creates a dense cloud around you, like pig-pen from Peanuts.

SFHS84

Truly a masterpiece though the iris note takes me back to when Dior Homme was initially released. So clean and beautiful.

js71

This is a great scent, safe, welcoming and moreish, i have had a break from fragrances for a while and have changed my opinion on the performance of this, i used to think it was very poor but the break has given my nose a kickstart and i can easily smell this for many hours and even the next day, i would suggest to anyone to have a break if you think that many scents are poor performers. Bois d'argent is a 10/10 from me.

gelkita

2020 formulation is a flower bomb on me 🤢

Marivictory

This is definitely Amber Nuit's brother or cousin who always smelt clean and put together. I love Amber Nuit because it is rich Amber and always daring and captivating worn in the right place with the right outfit. Bois D'argent on the other hand can be worn anywhere, anytime, and however way you decided to dress up that day. It smells expensive and versatile.

I love it.

I love them both.
If you like one or the other - get both. Maybe this for the day the other for the night. Thank me later.

piyux

Dior Bois D’Argent opens soft with clean and fresh notes of iris and juniper berries, the opening is moderate to low projection, the fragrance feels very soft, evocative of a fine iris air freshener. A moment after the opening, the cypress adds a soft woody and green note; almost immediately, the myrrh adds a soft resinous, slightly fruity accord; the patchouli, if it is there, it is almost unnoticeable. A few minutes after the opening, Dior Bois D’Argent travels to its dry-down, here the vanilla and honey add a soft sweet note, the wood notes described as base notes are very soft, same as the leather. Once the fragrance has reached is full dry-down, it can be described as a soft and low projecting iris and woody fragrance with some balsamic, amber, and woody accords. Dior Bois D’Argent feels clean, fresh, modern, inoffensive, unisex, versatile, and pleasant.

Batch reviewed: 2019
Wow Rating: 3/10. A soft and pleasant fragrance, but it feels more like a fine body lotion than fragrance.
Dislike Rating: 0/10. There are no offensive notes in this composition.
Uniqueness: 3/10. The notes in this fragrance are very common.
Mass Appeal: 9/10. This is a fragrance that most people will find pleasant.
Projection: 1/10. Very low, almost none.
Sillage: 0/10. None, the fragrance is very soft.
Application: Six or more atomizations to compensate for poor performance.
Longevity: 2/10. Very low, the fragrance dissipates in under two hours.
Seasons: Spring and summer, the fragrance is too weak for night time.
Occasions: Formal events, outdoor gatherings, gym, office, business, casual, home, romantic, dating.
Versatility: 9/10. Highly versatile, however, its performance is disappointing.
Gender: Unisex.
Ages: Any.
Recommendation: Dior Bois D’Argent is part of the exclusive line of Dior. As such, its price is above designer fragrances; although this fragrance is pleasant, the composition feels very diluted therefore its price does not justify its performance. This is a nice to have but not a must-have.
Blind-Buy: No. Not because of any offensive notes, the fragrance is very pleasant, but because of its very low projection and longevity.
Similar: A fragrance that includes a noticeable iris note is Al Haramain L'Aventure Knight Men EDP, it features lemon, iris, violet, and woods, a better option, and performance for a much lower cost.
Summary: A soft and low projecting iris and woody fragrance with some balsamic, amber, and woody accords that feels clean, fresh, modern, inoffensive, unisex, versatile, and pleasant.

Why i can smell a little prada infusion d iris here?? Not as powdery as prada's one. A little tone down and more skin sense alike version.

[Bois d’Argent]
⚫️⚫️⚫️⚪️⚪️
PASTEL - LIGHT - MINIMALIST

A bland woody experience. In the opening I get a strong honey presence with some ‘wet’ botanical juniper for the first 10 seconds. Honey and dry woods come together to create a rolling tobacco type scent. The colour is a grey taupe with a little warmth. I can see this appealing to a minimalist or somebody who doesn’t want their fragrances to speak first but for me Bois d’Argent is monotony in a bottle under a high end designer price tag.

To the credit of the perfumer, the composition is immaculate and so tightly knit to create one hell of a cohesive blend. My problem is the lack of depth here. There is no personality behind this and no character I want to study. I was looking for something richer and heavier given myrrh is credited with a large role. Whilst the fragrance doesn’t feel unfinished, I feel it has more to say and is just the start of a greater idea.

This perfume doesn’t encourage much emotion or imagination. It’s worse than any fragrance I hate because at least I feel something towards them. With this I feel nothing but ‘meh’. It’s just like a constant hum that sits in the background unnoticed.

This is not at all to discredit those who love this fragrance, it just doesn’t click with me.

Rosemary14

Gosh so many of these share the same DNA. This reminds me a little bit of New Look. The iris, the vanilla, the benzoin, and woods. You can pick out a note from one fragrance and identify it in another in this line. This has the same amber as Ambre Nuit but way less of is. This fragrance is powdery and the silage is that of a skin scent to me. These are all so refined and thought out. These are poetry.

Honestly besides Grand Bal this is one of my absolute favorites from this line. It does those aromatic notes of juniper and cypress so well. They are so natural and so perfectly balanced. They remind me of standing next to real cypress and juniper bushes. This is powdery iris and woody, aromatic, with a little bit of honey vanilla sweetness. It’s fantastic.

Masterpiece!

smellydude

Masterpiece! "Silver Wood" Typical Annick Menardo creation, subtle and smooth. Like a white shirt. I wear this for myself, it calms me when I'm stressed out or when I want to relax. Love it! Edit: The new 2022 version is even better , Francis Kurkdjian has changed it back to the original Annick Menardo formula again.

Nicyoung

This fragrance is a mess to me. Am I the only one that feels this way? It is similar to van cleef iris scent as its iris and smoke, which I dont like smelling like smoke. But then you throw in the pine and amber and juniper.. plus a tiny bit of honey not enough to help anything. Its a nothing scent to me.. maybe better for a man,but I would never smell that and think someone smells good.. just me.. sorry

nicolasnmc

Perfect signature scent. Light, buttery, slightly woody and silky smooth. Very very soft fragrance not necessarily in projection but In how easy it is to wear. I cannot imagine offending anybody with a scent like this. Projection is soft to moderate and this lasts a good 7 hours before becoming a skin scent. The main thing I smell on the opening is woodsy notes however these mostly dissipate leaving a beautiful buttery iris note. I’m very impressed!

fkollmeier

Does anyone else think this smells almost entirely of Ambroxan?

hady_994

Boy is it good. Man does it smell good. So gorgeous.
10/10

Beyonder

A luxury perfume built around a refined formula. A woody, balsamic-leather essence, almost mystical, where incense, myrrh and absolute iris intersect. Rare and luxurious, Bois d'Argent is an iridescent and honeyed wood 'sewn with silver thread'. A classic of modern perfumery. The only negative on the new formulation is the performance it went obviously down with time.

i__asn

The first time I smelled this perfume I felt that it is very strange, but in few minutes I started to feel how good and very unique it really is. I cannot compare it to any other fragrance.
Unfortunately, the sillage is very weak and it doesn't last for long time. So, if you are intending to get a perfume with strong sillage and long lasting, this may not be the best option for you (especially with that high price relatively).

flawnt

To me, it's a very soft and close to the skin. Sort of powdery, woody fragrance. I smell something earthy like black tea, myrhh, and woody notes. Not much sweetness or warmth at all. Lasts a long time, but it's soft the whole time. I find it a bit boring and out of my usual realm of fragrance.

I would say this fragrance definitely leans masculine and mature. I often want to add something to it to fit my everyday vibe. It's formal and inoffensive, if you were at an extremely business formal event this would pair well.

Scent: 7/10
Longevity: 9/10
Overall: 8/10

panagiotis.soutsas

Very few perfumes can stand next to this masterpiece! 11/10

MrEleven1181

Was given a few 7ml testers when I bought my santal noir and this was one of them.
I just dont like this fragrance its too powdery and sweet for me it does last long i am getting a solid 10-12 hours but its a skin scent no projection or sillage with this one so a definite no from me.

Violinplayah

I’m confused about this one... from the notes it looks as if this fragrance should have some heft, but freshly applied I can barely smell anything! It’s fresh, nondescript and watery, like Byredo Gypsy Water. I have to smash my nose to my skin to get anything freshly sprayed, And it’s gone in an hour. If no one else has an issue, it must be that I am either anosmic to this fragrance, or I’ve bought a bad bottle. :/ Either way, a monumental waste of money.

psebi101

Sweet opening with honey, amber and myrrh; patchouli has a bitter herbal presence and then there's the powdery iris. I can see the similarities with Bois d'Iris, but that one is more focused on the buttery iris, while Bois d'Argent is more focused on the sweet notes and it gets more powdery.

Buysblind

I owned the original Bois d'Argent and currently own this one, and really, any differences are minor enough that you'll get over them after the first wearing or two. In fact, unless you own both and spray them side by side while wearing them, it really shouldn't matter at all--they're very similar and there's no sense in getting hung up on perceived minor differences between this one and the first edition. You'll be able to enjoy the current version just as much. And here's the good news: The version that's available now actually has better projection and longevity. I would say the main difference between the OG and version 2.0 is that the second one comes out of the gate a bit stronger, with more intensity and further reach. The older Bd'A was tricky that way; it could seem a bit on the weak side sometimes, especially in the opening, only to become stronger later on. If there is any significant difference between the two, I guess it would be that this one is more linear in terms of its strength and projection. It's fairly strong from start to finish. If I use about 3 sprays, maybe 4, I'm definitely good for the day, and there may even be times during that day when I feel it's a bit too strong. So depending on how you like your fragrances, you could even go 2 sprays with this and do okay, it's just a matter of preference.

As for the smell, it's still the same good old powdered-honey blended with a woody iris and pleasantly cloudy-resinous finish. It remains unisex leaning masculine and is a wonderful choice for all seasons excluding summer. If you already enjoy Dior Homme or fragrances of that ilk (powdery, iris-based, 'non-typical' masculines), then chances are you'll like this as well. As it adds honey to the mix, perhaps Bois d'Argent has a little bit more of a casual, playful feel than Dior Homme, but that's not to say that it wouldn't work in more formal situations either. Overall, this is a very enjoyable, unique addition to the Dior Privee line up and one that is well-worth sampling. I can't get enough of it, personally. Final rating, 9/10.

Veedabestchef

This is a wonderful fragrance. First initial spray gave me that Iris myrhh with a touch of vanilla amber and vanilla to it. Its not a super strong fragrance more like a tone down strong soft fragrance that will lead a scent trail. Its one of those fragrance that you cant smell but others will. I read the reviews that some says its weak performance. But i tested it i had a great performance at least 10 hours after that it become a skin scent. This is a pleasent fragrance that wont offend anyone if overspray. Definitely for colder or chilly season. I love the drydown as well that honey amber and vanilla are the best. Its cozy soft fragrance but a powerful one.

Macalister

This the best smelling fragrance ever imo. However, I bought it in 2019 and the performance is very weak. Be very careful before buying it...

FrankLevinsohn

This Iris based fragrance is the most beautiful, beastly, animalic sweet, woodsy, wispy waft scent that I’ve smelled up to date. It lasted 10 hours and the following morning, it’s still a skin scent. Bois D’ Argent is magical for upscale casual and black tie affairs by Christian Dior. Excellent and well worth it!

Albiretu

I bought a few testers the other day, and this was for my good friend, one of the 4 fragrances I selected for him. He trusted me with my nose since I am obsessed with fragrances :)
I am not sure whether I have the new version or the old one as I purchased a tester of this. Anyways, it is not that important to me.
This smells incredible. Absolutely incredible. A perfect blend of all the notes that are listed. It is slightly sweet, yet woody, mysterious, and smoky. It is delicate but it lasts all day on clothes and even one spray lasts 24 hours.
Sometimes projection can be soft or moderate, but longevity is still a beast.
It opens up very woody, and smokey, and it dries down to a soft and pleasant vanilla base. I adore this!
Definitely unisex, it worked on me and I hope he will appreciate it too. I remember one of my best friends used this for a very long time.

SaraSugarkiller

What french rappers smell like ;)

TheLouvre

This stuff is outstanding. I wore this to my boyfriends company Holiday party Friday evening at around 7:00PM. Compliments galore. Sunday evening on my way home leaving my boyfriends, I went ahead and threw that outfit I had on Friday back on because I didn't want to fold anything or have them wrinkled. I did not apply any fragrance as my clothes still smelled amazing from Friday evening yet still received compliments from both my boyfriend and strangers. As we got in the Lyft headed to my house the Lyft driver said "WOW! You smell way to amazing to be out here in the rain." This is 2 days later people. 2 days later and still getting compliments as if i freshly applied it. Amazing.

mr_epicurean

I’ve always loved the dusty feel of Bd’A, which results from its mix of smoky incense with powdery vanilla. The incense is a fine, light one, which gives Bd’A its unique “clean” quality. Guys, you couldn’t smell any better, any more casually sophisticated than by wearing this on a date, believe me. And longevity is exemplary; doesn’t stop. An easy 9/10.

For reference, Bd’A is much like Dior Homme; both have that pleasant powdery quality that registers as both old and modern at the same time. But this is no easily-available mainstream scent like DH, it’s always been more exclusive, but without an exorbitant pricetag. Also, the incense at work with Bd’A balances out the sweetness whereas with DH the sweet notes can be a bit too gourmand.

zo_smells

It gives a wearer that WOOF factor making you feel like a "million bucks", in almost a vintage kinda way...makes you want to look in a mirror and touch yourself inappropriately and shamelessly.
It is always certain to provoke heads turn, when you pass by wearing it.

Ghino

It reminds me of some dry tea leaves … I still need some time to understand why people are obsessed with it.

Jose Marcos

It makes me really sad to read reviwes from people that seem to lack reason, to say the least. In one hand, some compared this to other scents in a way almost criminal. They compare a piece of pashimina that is intended to be cosy to a flashy cocktail jacquet. What's the point, if they are worlds apart and have their own merits? One thing is one thinhg, another thing is another thing. On the other, they complain about its own very nature, suaveness, coolness, distant beaty, cold blond?, profesional, mature, upscale, upbriging, posh, etc...

One doesn't need to like this sort of scent, that's very fair. But please don't trash things just because you don't like.

Bois d'Argent is a sublime eau de cologne like scent with a strengh of a titan. And it is really difficult to describe it because BdA is also very abstratct.
The only other scent that comes to my mind in comparison is Boy de Chanel, that I think would be great under the name of bois d'Or. That's the main difference between them, colour. They are both very precious. Very expensive every day scent.

Have a nice day!

mmcdonald36

Probably too fem for a guy. It’s truly stunning and creates a cloud-like aura around you, but I think it’s just a little too soft and beautiful for a guy to wear.

LadiesRed

Upon spraying this perfume unto my wrist, it feels as if I'm in a warm forest filled with the sun's rays, deep pine woods with the scent of the flowers and herbs illuminating from the earth's warmth.

The first impression is strong but slowly softens to a luxurious yet comfortable scent.

The woody, earthy and spice notes are what I detect first. The honey and vanilla creep in when the day is about to end, leaving behind a sweetened oud/amber scent.

A perfume many approve of back here in Qatar.

This smells like children's dolls and toys sold in the 1980s. Like the hair of a My Little Pony or the plastic butt of Strawberry Shortcake.

Loredana0108

Powder, honey and vanilla- that's what I smell, and it's quite enjoyable. The concept behind this perfume is great: delicate powdery notes embracing gourmand and woody accords, yet the scent stays light and crystalline. If it were a musical composition, I think it would be Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy by Tchaikovsky. If it were a fictional character, it would be the Snow Queen. I simply can't put into words the magic of this perfume, you should give it a try. Sillage and longevity are not that great, though, which is a shame or, maybe, part of its charm- Bois d'argent wouldn't be as fascinating if it were loud and aggressive.

zesty_calco

A powdery, natural smelling iris, myrrh with vanilla nuance and a little wood. A definite sweet vibe to Bd'A from the honey. Smells high quality and smooth. I'm reminded a little of a chocolaty marshmallow. Reminds me of Dior Homme as well but sweeter.

I'd say this scent is mature. Unisex but leans feminine. Definitely for cooler weather. Sexy, more formal but okay for the office. Projection and sillage are about average. Only lasted about six hours before becoming soft. If you're buying the 250ml bottle (which admittedly is a life time supply) ml for ml this isn't a bad price though it should last a little longer. Quite a bit cheaper than many Creed scents. I liked the simple elegant bottle. Dior sprayers are excellent and the magnetic cap is a nice touch. For me Dior Homme does Bois d'Argent's job in my wardrobe; though Bd'A performs better. Too much sweetness for me. Still a great scent!

Save your money, smells like nothing.

This is a nice resin, amber, myrhh, leather, with a hint of honey in the fragrance. Those are the notes I am able to pick out from start to finish.
Very nice, long lasting, unisex fragrance.
Can't speak badly about this scent.

I will cherish this ten ml decant I was given in a swap.
But I don't see myself, outright buying this fragrance.
If someone got this for me, as a gift... I'd take it quick, fast & in a hurry from them and say thank you.
But I wouldn't spend $250 to $325 for it.
IMHO...

I used six sprays...both wrist, back & front of my neck, chest, and front of my shirt.

Will I buy this again?...No.

What's the strength of this? EDP.

Can you use it as a unisex scent? Yes.

Am I willing to trade this fragrance? No.

Should You Skip It, Sample It First or Blind Buy It? I say Sample it first.

Is it the old, new formulation? New.

What's its availability; in production, limited edition or discontinued? In production.

When it comes to fragrances, there's always a lot of hype when it comes to big names, regardless of how they really smell. That to me is the case here, but Bois D'argent falls short in terms of "identity" if I may. The scent is unique enough, but I cannot really picture a setting where this fragrance would really shine.

Rather than splurging on a blind purchase (and this would be quite the expensive one!) I purchased a 2ml vial. Upon smelling this for the first few seconds, it immediately reminded me of my high school years and the way one of my ex's smelled with a sweet/powdery body spray, or my childhood physician's office. Neither of which are particularly flattering in my opinion.

The sillage is excellent. You can smell it around the neck and wrist within about half a meter. Longevity is incredible. These are great things if you're a fan of the scent to begin with. But for me, this scent is sweet, sweet and more sweet, in a subtle way.

A more feminine than masculine smell in my humble opinion. The top note of Iris and middle note of Patchouli are quite noticeable, they linger and don't really let up. The base note of Honey never seems to leave either, which I think is probably my gripe with this particular scent. There's little change in the dry down from what I perceive. The leather comes along, but not without the honey, not without the everlasting powder effect. I feel that there is not enough dynamic from note to note to give this scent that "je ne sais quoi"

As a 31 year old male, I'm glad I didn't purchase the full bottle. There are much better, more masculine scents out there, for far less money. That is my 2 cents.

Personal: 4/10
Quality: 8/10 (the extra 2 being the lack of change in the dry down)

scentfollower

Absolutely amazing fragrance, little bit sweeter so it is more on the feminine side but it is masterfully crafted and it performs well into 9 hours, with regards to all the negative comments those must have either tested fakes or suffered from anosmia.

maxpowerboston

This is a "root beer" scent. The combination of myrrh and iris often leads to a smell very reminiscent of root beer, root beer candies to be specific. Acqua di Parma Mandorlo smells like root beer, too. It's powdery, sweet, light. On my skin it's hyper feminine. Very linear.

Longevity is decent for my dry skin: 4-6 hours. Sits close to the skin quickly.

A 6.75/10. It's a good suit and tie scent for the right guy. I'm not able to pull off feminine-leaning scents...must be the beard and build.

The Fragrant Woods

I really hope I got a fake sample because all I get is sawdust, sweet honeyed urine and a quiet musk; like the bottom of a dirty cage belonging to a hamster with a weak bladder and an insatiable appetite for honey (the likes of which would shock even the Pooh Bear, Winnie) 1/5

js71

absolutely terrible performance. a skin scent from the off. such a shame as it smells great but whats the point.cant believe the price with this kind of strength. it must have been better in the past looking at older reviews. why dior. ??.

gtabasso

barely there scent that is all about vanilla, a boozy, woody, resinous vanilla that you have to douse in then keep holding your nose to your skin to smell. The top was a dose of alcohol that burned off quickly.

brandonmont

Incredible cloud like iris with honey and woods. One of the fragrances that made me fall in love with this hobby. Creamy iris with a touch of sweet honey but backed up with woods to make sure it stays perfectly unisex.

Florista

What can be said about masterpiece Bois D'Argent that hasn't already been said below? If I ever win the lottery and trade in my jeans and tee shirts for Berluti and Dries Van Noten suits, I will buy the biggest bottle of Bois D'Argent and wear it everyday. Gorgeous doughy orris, arid, fuzzy incense and expensive leather handbag scent. With the perfect amount of honeyed sweetness to round the sharp edges and make you feel like a sun-kissed cherub. It's just too damn fancy for everyday wear. But, my god, I’ve never felt so compelled to just sit around smelling myself. There are other perfumes with similar theme but BY FAR, Bois D’Argent is the ultimate expression of fuzzy, woody, iris oriental. I think some new molecules were employed here to exciting effect.

Cue Debbie Downer music: Womp womp womp. Some people will swear on their grandmother's vintage collection that this has not been reformulated sometime around 2015 with the relaunch and expansion of the line. They are wrong, so wrong, unless I am being punished by mysterious forces and only getting access to bad product . The original from 2010 and earlier was fabulous. They cut out anything resembling a topnote accord, removed the honey and lightened the strength of the formula by about half since they relaunched with "Lucky", "Holy Peony", "Purple Oud" etc. I went from absolutely loving this fragrance to questioning why anyone would pay more than $20 for such a pale, bland iris/vanilla. TRAGIC.
PS: I don’t blame anyone for leaving bad reviews of this fragrance because it is likely you are experiencing the reformulated version and I would not give it any of the praise that I gave the original.

danielhanz

Can't believe the mighty house of Dior release this.. I get sour smell from this. Pungent and annoying.. Immediately washed my hand, but i'm glad i sample it first.. Big shame Dior...

100% try before you buy..

DO NOT LISTEN TO THE NEGATIVE NANCYS ON HERE!! THIS JUICE IS AWESOME TO SAY THE LEAST! I HAVE TESTED OVER 300 TOP NICHE FRAGRANCES AND THIS HAS TO BE ONE OF THE BEST SMELLING SCENTS I HAVE TRIED!!! 10/10 LASTS FOREVER ON THE SKIN TOO!

andrewj

Very light, very feminine. I'm not experienced enough to detect individual notes, but the main overall impression I have is the scent of tea. Or maybe it is the scent of the wooden box that might be used to store tea in Japan. That's about the full extent of any wood ("bois") that I can detect. People who are hoping for a classic woody scent should look elsewhere. Nor is there any oud, although that absence may be a relief for some.

Not really for me, but I can see why many people (especially women, or men who like very feminine scents) might like this, because of its subtlety and complexity. Personally I prefer something more substantial like Dior's Leather Oud, which I think is great. But many of the people who like Bois d'Argent for its light, floral, fairy-like qualities would be horrified by the earthy sensuality of Leather Oud.

UPDATE: I gave this to my girlfriend and she loves it.

shiva-woman

On rare occasions, when testing pefume, I do not get anything. I've noticed that perfumes with a high percentage of aromachemicals "ghost" and swerve on me. They play a nasty game of peekaboo.
This perfume has a 10 second cool powdery opening and then is GONE. Then it's back. When I get occasional wisps of it it's nice.
I suspect this has silage, but I can't smell it clearly, and when it's skin pressed to nose--NOTHING. When I walk into a room where I've sprayed this it's lovely, and then gone!!!
So I cannot confirm the notes listed above which are totally up my alley.
The dry down smells like a licorice artemisia skin scent, a bit of absinthe spilled on my skin.
I would try before I buy! I'm very puzzled by this perfume. I'll try again in cooler weather.
Edit: After reading very mixed reviews...does anyone else notice that the real synth fragrances last forever...? Some very good quality ones do too, but reviews below are all over the place, with sillage being low, and longevity being long.
Edit: to my edit. This now smells, faintly up close skin scent like Lolita Lempicka....yet no artemisia listed or fennel...but the same designer, as I just now discovered. This is not like LL until the drydown skinscent, and then it's there.

phenomenal

The prominent notes I get are Iris and Wood. To just say wood is quite general but the woodsy notes in here are unique and imho extremely well done in that they smell natural, dry and quite woody. Almost goes to a sandalwood but not quite.

I see the reviews below and I can see where they are coming from, I recently had a small decant I got from a reputable seller on ebay and I swear I smelt fish when I put my nose to the little plastic sprayer. However, now that I own a 450 ml bottle of this juice, I never have experienced that fishy smell. Also worth mentioning is that there seems to be no batch variation in this one, I have a fresh batch and very happy with it.

This is one of the all-time most unique and well-done fragrances imo. It smells like something you just couldn't do with cheap ingredients. I think this is in my top 10 if not top 5 because I really enjoy it.

I swear I have noticed people following me at the grocery store and the other day I had this couple take a deep breathe of air when they approached me, they seemed to like it white a bit.

I have been thinking of a way to rate fragrances and I just do not want to do it, you may love what I hate. All I want to report is when I get from it... so let me try this.

For me this fragrance is:
Extremely Unique
It projects well on my skin
Longevity is excellent for me
and the scent is something you need to learn to rock

I enjoy this one a lot and I am happy to have it in my collection for a longtime.

duck2587

This stuff is terrible to me. It smells like cheap powder and pool water. Dior, I forgive you.

mhiregoudar

This smells like nasal snuff powder made of powdered tobacco & eucalyptus. I don't get any honey, iris, patch.
People around me agreed that it smells like snuff powder.
Sometimes way down in the dry down i get chlorinated swimming pool water.

Longevity: 8 hours

What the.. I don't smell anything! Only if i stick my nose close enough I get to smell some damp myrrh. And that's about it.

tatonnement

This is SUCH a hard one for me to review because I am split, 50/50 on it. I had high expectations for bois d'argent based on reviews and let me tell you, it does NOT disappoint. what disappoints is my freaking skin chemistry that seems to HATE iris with a passion. Iris silver mist by SL, what many deem a "unicorn scent" is like spraying metallic cat piss all over my flesh, it literally makes the hairs in my nostrils curl.

Bois d'argent has noticeable iris in it. I'm not sure what fresh iris is supposed to be smell like, i haven't had many experiences with it. So whether or not the iris is strong or realistic in this, i cannot say. But what I can say is that mixed with honey, it definitely showcases itself via my flesh in the scent of moldy, sharp cat pee. The cat pee is accompanied by pencil shavings and for a minute there, I smell like a wet hamster cage where the shavings are covered with...urine. So, iris, honey and cypress/woods, definitely coming out strong in the first 10 minutes.

15 minutes or so later... my skin absorbs the urine scent and turns it into damp basement moldy, BUT thankfully the resins and sweet notes start to cover it up. This is where I think the scent truly becomes divine, some kind of masterpiece. It's like...sweetness mixed with woods but not overdone or typical as expected, with a hint of spice and sophistication. If the iris/honey note worked with my skin chemistry I would be bending over backwards to get myself a huge bottle of this. I have never smelled it on anyone else but I can imagine it being magical.

It's been over 12 hours now and I can still smell the scent on my wrists, post 2-showers. The other Dior fumes from this collection also have incredible longevity so I am not surprised this would keep going. However, it is a skin scent- it stays very close to the skin which probably makes it sexy, as I can imagine someone wearing this (with their skin chemistry working) and attracting all kinds of attention. I am debating whether or not to buy a bottle of it even though the initial burst doesn't work with my skin. I'm thinking I can get over it and accept this scent unconditionally. Or...just spray it on my clothes?

WmNoir

The best way I can describe this fragrance is "Divine". It is very simple boasting a soft honey like note that I did not think I would like so much but it quickly found its way to my heart. The subtle sweetness grows and grows for hours, 6+ very easily in an overnight test. This is one of my favorites - Well done.

Vlud

I think this one is the most comforting scent that I've ever smelled. It is airy and balsamic at the same time and becomes sweeter as it develops... It has a slight gourmand touch with a lovely creamy aspect.

Bois d'argent is soft and makes you think of sweet dreams :)

HibiscusLola

I really like this perfume, it's so warm, sweet, calming and sensual. I detect a singular mix of spices on a honey base with a hint of iris. It's the kind of perfume which i like wearing during summer nights, when I have tanned skin. I think it would be nice on a man too, I guess that Prince would have worn this one! I got so many compliments on it, but I stopped wearing it because it's too popular in my town and I prefer using less recognizable perfumes... maybe I'll buy it again in the future.

nicholas087

Rum and raisin ice cream dripping off a buttery smooth black leather jacket.

Very well done. Would have loved it if it came in a smaller size (75ml would have been perfect) as I don't see this as a daily scent, but more for that special occasion where indulgence and luxury are called for.

Oh Martin! Your review is so good! It really explained to me how I sense/smell this beautiful fragrance. So true. Such a lovely picture! Thank you.
I love Bois d'Argent! It's really sumptuous. Elegant and refined, feminine and deep. Fresh, dry and sweet, warm, comforting, woodsy and herby - simply gorgeous!

Martin__

Wow... This is so cozy fragrance. So warm and delightful.

Actually, while wearing it, I can't detect notes. It's a picture, maybe more pictures, a vision. Sitting in front of the fireside in a living room, at home. With a cup of hot milk with honey infused inside. Woods are burning, I can smell it. And the smell of the melted resins that were inside them. I've got an amber based perfume on me. And I can smell all that: the smell of hot milk, the smell of woods, the smell of resins.

Projection is soft, logevity is more than half a day.

Beautiful, warm, comforting scent. I guess it's another must have for me...

Buckeye

I don't like this fragrance even though it is well blended, and I can't find flaws in it as a whole.

It tries to be an Amouage or Xerjoff in terms of complexity, but has no chance standing up against them. Yet, it is as expensive as some if not more. Not worth the money.

thisisoan

As winter approaching in Thailand, the weather is getting cold. Finally, I had a chance to wear this perfume and I was stunned by it.

At first spray, it gave me a Dior Homme vibes, just because it had some notes as Dior Homme like Iris, leather and vanilla. But this one smells smoother, sweeter than Dior Homme in my opinion.

Sillage wise, this fragrance have moderate sillage not too heavy just made people walking by stop and asking you what fragrance are you wearing.

Over all, I really loved this fragrance. It very classy, smooth and sexy. If someone who love Dior Homme might love this fragrance as well as me.

shehrozmalik

this perfume truly smells amazing! this is what i was expect from a niche bottle! very different and smooth! suits more in formal occasions! its surely a 9/10 scent for me

siririschmoos

It seems the two notes most notice or that people seem to love about this fragrance is the iris and the myrrh. For me it's actually a turn-off, so much so that in the beginning I think of the top notes as rather dry.

I love the iris in Dior's Eau for men but here it paints, for the first two to three hours, a rather drab picture. Also, like so many mention on the internet through various review sites, this scent sits close to the skin with an average lifespan.

The part I do like is the second half of it's existence, I was able to make out a green and sweet aroma that impressed me, is it the cypress and honey?

I felt let down at first, it seems my interpretation or what my nose picks up is much different from that of others, glad I didn't wash it off after a couple of hours.

MystiikMoments

I liked other iris scents such as DHI and Valentino Uomo Intense. So I thought I would try this.

I just found it to far on the feminine side, the iris and vanilla tone smells great, but personally just not for a man. I think it might have been the combo of leather in my other iris scents that made them masculine.

Another comment on the Dior Prive line, Ambre Nuit is still my favourite after sampling this

dzingunyte

this is totally beautiful perfume. soft, close to the skin.unisex, but more to feminine side i would say. one of the most beautiful scents i've ever tried. it remind me of my childhood summers in the village. warm, bees are saving nectar from flowers blossoms, buzzing around :) this is like you sit under the tree in empty field and watch in to the beautiful summer sky. loved this perfume and i think ill purchase another decant of it,as full bottle is really too pricey to me :(

michalc

This is my favourite fragrance in the world, but similarly to the others in the same line, I didn't like it at first. If you find it weird or uninteresting at first just give it a few more shots before writing it off. It's my most peaceful fragrance, just a perfect composition.

fragcentral

Bois D`argent Christian Dior is an excellent woody fragrance with hints of iris and myrrh. It's hard to say what all the notes are, as this one is a bit subdued. Agreed with others who say it has massive longevity but not a lot of projection. It smells really good for the fall and winter. Probably unisex, but masculine enough for a man to wear on the right occasion. Glad I have this one.

After a full wearing, I figured out what this smells like. I thought it was the smelly markers that kindergartners use but it's not. I remember it was something from my childhood but I couldn't put my finger on it until now. Smencils. They're scented pencils made from recycled newspaper and it's exactly what this smells like. For that reason, I can't see myself smelling like that so I will not be purchasing a bottle. MAYBE if it was cheaper but $300 to smell like smencils is outrageous. Longevity is beast. Projection is average.

RMB18

First impression: This was not at all what I was expecting after watching reviews. This has a weird note in it and it just hit me. The smelly markers that you or your kid used to draw with in kindergarten. The brown smelly marker is exactly what this smells like, with the powdery midnight in Paris background. I really need to wear this on my skin. Before I can fully judge, but for my first impression, this smells weird lol.It almost has a Christmasy vibe to it. Very elegant and sophisticated in the same way that Royal Oud by Creed is. I'm getting a strong anise note that is very reminiscent of black liquorice. this fragrance has a lot of depth and I will add another review after more testing. But the best way to describe the scent is, you take the rubber note out of Midnight in Paris, and replace it with the smell of the brown smelly markers you used in kindergarten. That's the most spot on description I can give.

daynierds

It is a nice smell, it is smooth, educated and high class to say the least..however....I do not believe it is worth the money, performance is way to subtle to pay all that...I found ambre nuit to be a great smell as well and a better value for the money....

IndigoEye

I ordered a sample of this and Bois d'iris as I love woody iris scents and I wanted to compare them. It was a very interesting comparison and I gave a day's wear to each of them with a pretty liberal (over 1ml) application.

As soon as I sprayed this one I was reminded of Bois d'iris - the sweet, plush opening and buttery iris. However, very quickly a more woody, aromatic, almost saline, group of notes came forward. This made it feel cooler and more transparent than the VC&A scent. It also felt thinner, and it grew thinner still until it became a skin scent within about an hour.

Unfortunately it was barely detectable on my skin and it didn't resurface or throw up any wafts of scent again. There is absolutely no way I would purchase this; you'd get better sillage from a bar of soap.

gatsby

so happy I wasn t fooled by Dior this time and I was so so damn close to buy it in blind. What a mistake, God! So, thanks to a sample that came in the right time, I was able to save my money. Watered, like a body-perfume, the smell is nice, nothing spectacular but sexy and nice, nothing else. After 30 min, I realized that in an hour it will disappear, and I was right. The sillage is existent only in first 15 minutes, so the middle and dry down can t be detected by anyone except you and with huge efforts.
The iris is the only thing that barely remains, in some resins. Therefore, (for me, at least) a HUGE mistake that I avoided, thank s God. Don t waste your money, try it and decide it.

Scent 7/10
sillage 5/10

Perfumelover15

Bois d'argent is a very elegant, intimate and velvety perfume. It's all about the natural, expensive and unique aroma of the iris root. And as you can expect it is rooty, powdery and carroty. All the beauty of this precious extract is perfectly presented here. I think this is the best quality of iris fragrance I know. It is not as sweet as the similar Bois d'iris by VC&A, which is something I like. But it is a bit too muscy, which I don't like. At the beginning you can feel a natural incence note, which makes this perfume even more vibrant and luxurious. Excellent!
9/10
The review is for the 2016 version, now the fragrance is a bit different, less raw iris and musc, more powdery.

Toogle

First spray iris and woody a little sweet after 45-50 minutes Vanilla, honey amber and soft leather on my skin. Yes bittersweet but something is disturbing me i think is myrrh but i'm not sure.

I get fresh juniper berries & cypress. Powdery iris and earthy patchouli are very light to make it powdery. I get the most are sweet honey, vanilla, myrhh, amber and woody note. Very warmly and sensual. I never smell any perfume like this. outstanding, elegance, precious and sexy.

Gigi The Fashionista

Bois D'Argent by Christian Dior is a resinous smoky woodsy autumn fragrance, completely unisex, and absolutely divine. The scent opens with cypress scents that are very woodsy from the start. It smells a lot like a man's cologne and skips citrus and goes straight to the wood notes. The singular floral note here is an iris flower. It's very clearly there and on me it turns only the slightest bit powdery but this is no powder. It's a little fleeting iris scent, smells really pretty and puff it's gone in a second. The patchouli takes over the iris scent and it begins to do it's aromatic dance. The scent progresses into a deeper smokier fragrance. There's myrrh, incense and resins. All of these scents are warmed up with a dollop of honey. I can detect the honey after the woodsy notes dissipate somewhat. It's a gorgeous honey and even comes with a hint of vanilla flavor. This is not a super sweet fragrance however. It turns into a dark smoky mysterious incense scent. That incense lingers for hours and then after smelling it all day I detect amber and musk. It's really more on the masculine side. It feels like Dior made this for men, or as a unisex fragrance for both men and women. If you like aromatic fragrances, chypres and incense, patchouli frags, Bois D'Argent would be a treat. It's like the Dior version of my favorite patchouli in Chanel's 31 Rue Cambon. A gorgeous gorgeous fragrance. It wears better in cold weather. It's a winter fragrance that keeps you warm with it's honey and incense. Smells luxurious woodsy and expensive. One of the most beautiful chypres from Dior.

Elenose

I fell in love with this perfume two years ago, my sister in law had it and on her i believe i can really smell the paradise. Now i've received, and I have to say i am very disapponted cause it's sillage is nothing on me, and the note that i can smell in my sister in law are disappear leaving only a skin scent of a greasy old soap! Can't describe how sad is have wasted so much money for nothing at all! I hate my skin

micavana

I recently did a sample swap so I was lucky enough to try Bois D`argent. (Thanks Todd!) After spraying this one, my initial impression was cooked Spinach and hay. Really? Yes, really. I was a bit surprised at that, but that is what I get on my skin. After a bit I start to get a herbal, creamy orange scent come through. Followed by a powdery Iris scent. In the final dry down it turns into a delicious dusty, woody honeycomb scent. The final dry down is the best part of this fragrance IMO.

It has poor to moderate project and longevity on my skin. I am glad I tried it, but this one is a pass for me. If they could capture just the dry down and give it much better projection and longevity I would be interested in it.

jays786

Skin scent performance is terrible such a pity
Don't waste your money

landshark321

Finally got around to formally trying Bois d'Argent and it's an interesting experience, like most of the Christian Dior Prive line. It's mainly a woody/powdery mix, though I get a vetiver, which I simply might mistaking in place of the cypress or other listed woody notes. In that respect, I liken it to a powdery cousin of Chanel Sycomore, but less woody.

Some have discussed the sweetness, but I don't specifically get honey or any other sweet vibes. I do get the resins and leather somewhat, to add some depth to the powdery iris and woody mix that dominates the fragrances. Some regard this as unique, but the elements of this still ring oddly familiar.

Not impressive on projection or longevity, this doesn't perform as well as some of the other Prive line fragrances that I've casually tried on skin, but usage-wise, Bois d'Argent strikes me as a year-round day fragrance that's relatively pleasant and unoffensive, so it not being a projection monster isn't a significant fault. Overall, a nice fragrance but one I'd say you'd need to love to buy as there are certainly relatively comparable woody fragrances out there.

Calvini

This IS very similar to Bois d'Iris although this one is sharper, drier, and a little monotonous with less body, while Bois d'Iris is rounder, deeper, and more natural, but rather discreet.
If you take another step further you'd reach Armani Prive's Encens Satin, which is darker, smokier, and warmer/ambery (overall more complex) with less focus on Iris.

Encens Satin > Bois d'Iris > Bois d'Argent

*Apparently there's a reason why they're all similar; François Demachy said it "can be seen as a clean smoke" and pointed out that "Iris plays an unusual role, at once amber, musky and woody" just like the other two.

ttt3008

This is a very different kind of fragrance; on the Dior web page it's labeled as a skin scent. As far as smell, you can't go wrong at all. Its light and fluffy, pleasant as can be. I get hints of wood, and not cut wood, more like the tree bark itself, a very light honey/creamy/vanilla vibe. Its so well blended that I don't notice half of what's said to be in it. Its very safe, anyone can pull it off. While it won't likely be the attention getter some hoped for because of a lighter sillage than most fragrances, people will certainly be rewarded by its charm on close encounters. Still, somehow it has longevity like an absolute champ. 12+ hours and you will still get whiffs of it throughout the next day. Even after a shower this stuff will stick to your skin. A Masterpiece! Also a great fragrance to use as a base for layering.

One of my all time favorites:

Pleasant but very weak. I expected more for 300+dollars. Having said this, I now have to edit as this frag really does expand with time, lots of time, on the skin. Holds on to clothing quite beautifully as well.

Edit, I should really wait a few months before doing a review as I have grown very fond of Bois D'argent. It may even end up on my Want list. I will try to learn from this experience.

This is the only fragrance that has been too weak on me. I'm that kind of person that only needs one spray usually, and sometimes that is even too much for me. But with this one I applied plenty, and still I can only smell it if i put my nose close to my skin. I don't know what happened here.

What I do smell up close is a watered down myrrh with a tiny hint of something green. I imagine it can be quite lovely if you can actually smell in on your skin. Sadly not for me.

This is such an enigma of a fragrance for me. I have sampled this a few times as an evening scent. When I spray this on and smell it on my wrist throughout the night all I get is dust! Like an old oak wardrobe covered in dust. This is all I get!

However, every morning after I wore this I got a wonderful honeyed powdery aroma. I just wish I could get this much earlier on.

This has a special quality about itself. Beautiful. Soft woody with powdery vibe in the back end the special myrrh and honey bounce off of each other like they are made for each other.. But this is one classy fragrance. It does not smell like an old woman.Defnitely something a man can easily wear. And if he did. it would be one well groomed and dressed man fBut everytime i've worn this fragrance with the right attire. Its nothing but a compliment getter. Not many people wear this. you think they do because of this site and the you tube reviewers but this is a special one. Try it out. 9/10

if you have no problem spending over $200 to smell like a baby's ass then buy this cologne!

its way over hyped, smells powdery, lasting power is average, projaction is so poor( after 1 to 2 hours) it becomes a skin scent.

+plus its too feminine for guys

Some of the reviews on here are good for a chuckle or two. I especially enjoy those that go on a rant about a fragrance being over-hyped, as though because some fume head wtih a puffed up sense of self-importance didn't like it no one else should like it either. Indeed, some folks take themselves far too seriously.

I have to admit that I am a fan of the Dior La Collection Privée line. I own several of them after having sampled them. A few didn't quite grab me but overall I think they are well crafted fragrances. Whether they appeal to your tastes is something you will need to decide for yourself. I suggest sampling before buying due to the cost.

Bois D'Argent, as has been said many times, is a soft, somewhat powdery fragrance with notes of honey, iris, myrhh, and vanilla. As a man I always approach fragrances with iris with some caution because when overdone the vibe tends to be feminine to my nose. I think Bois D'Argent squarely falls into the unisex category. Both men and women can pull this off. I find the fragrance very uplifting to wear and it just makes me feel good. I like it so much that I initially bought a 4.2oz bottle from Dior Online and then later found an excellent deal for an 8.4oz bottle for $200 and snapped it up. I wear it a lot and I think it could be a signature scent.

FORTEZZA

This is pretty weak and feminine. It smells like a hamster cage with honey poured all over it. It's sugary and woody, very soft and feminine. It doesn't smell bad but like the rest of the private line it's quite uninspiring. It's really weak and overhyped.

Edit: This is probably the most overhyped piece of crap I've ever put money toward. Longevity and projection are abysmal, for the first minute you barely smell it, and then once you finally can smell it it's like a hamster cage with sugar dumped on top. This is far far from bottle worthy.

Top oriental scents hands down. Fresh clean woods. All year scent.

Can I have what you guys are having? I literally cannot smell a molecule of this scent after five minutes of testing. The first five minutes was an OK introduction with dry, dusty myrhh and ... that's all folks!

No projection, no sale.

Blind bought this about 8 months ago (I know, really?) and today is my second full wear. On a daily basis I would look at my fragrance collection and pass over this thinking "I'm not really feeling this today." Disclaimer: I'm not really one for amber/honey scents. I feel that this was better today than I expected, but it's still not one of my favorites. Comes across as feminine on me and, quite frankly, fairly "old lady". It's pretty smooth and dries down powdery and creamy, just doesn't blow me away.

This is not really a review for Bois d'Argent per se, but instead a little story and comparison between this and Boucheron Trouble.

Story: I remember my grandma bought some Boucheron Trouble scented crystals a few years back from this shady perfume discounter in an outlet mall. They came in a red box, and were maroon coloured. The scent of them was so strong that it filled her whole house and permeated the furniture and clothes. Fast forward to 2014, when in Rome (because Dior doesn't sell La Collection Privee in Canada) I smelt Bois d'Argent for the first time. I sprayed it onto my hand and on a card. My skin chemistry turned Bois d'Argent into a powdery floral, interestingly enough, but on the card it smelt so familiar. I couldn't remember for the life of me what it resembled, but I knew that it smelt very similar to something. Now today, I dug up that BdA scented card and compared it to the Boucheron Trouble crystals, and guess what? They were the exact same! They were powdery with a hint of floral notes, vanilla, and amber.

Now for the part you've all been waiting for, why I think that they are alike. Let's start off by comparing the notes. Boucheron Trouble and Dior BdA have only 1 similar note, amber (according to the Fragrantica list of notes). I think however, that the amber is what provides both of the fragrances its sweet, powdery and woody quality. Overall, would I buy BdA? Ehh, maybe if I had the moola, but I can stick with the poor man's version: trouble.

TL;DR: Save your money and buy Boucheron Trouble.

P.S. Don't buy Boucheron Trouble eau Legere or Trouble Iridescent eau Legere if you're looking for a BdA substitute. They're lovely fragrances on their own, but if smelt side by side, they smell like a watered down BdA mixed with aquatic florals and citruses. :-P

Very elegant and luxurious scent, but something about it was off-putting to me.

the somali myrrh is smells amazingly genuine, drysdown beautifully....very soft scent but amazing longevity 10+hrs everytime

PerfumeGodess

This fragrance is etherial, mysterious and elegant!

Moonlitknight

Lovely, Iris, honey, vanilla, very close to the skin , but lasts over 24 hours, my GF smells it on her sheets the next day, amazing!

Ah, Bois d'Argent, why are you so expensive...
This is a gorgeous scent, but I would say it smells more dry than sweet. Yes, there's a lot of wood in it, but I'm of the opinion that woodsy notes are perfectly suitable for a woman.
This smells sophisticated, yet not pretentious because it is so delicate.
Longevity seems to be pretty good, but it's hard to tell from a sample.
One day, you will be mine!

Smells very much like a light version of Midnight in Paris. The projection and longevity on this is horrible. Just get Midnight is Paris and save the extra cash to feed your children, instead of buying expensive ass fragrances just because they are niche.

This fragrance is gorgeous!! The opening comes at you light but intense, with the juniper berries, cypress, and iris.. However the true brilliance takes place once the honey, myrr, and leather meet..This is handsome meets glamorous as far as fragrances go..I've never had something totally envelop me in it's richness and decadence, yet be so light.. If there was such a thing as a silk lined cloud, drizzled with ethereal honey it will smell exactly like Bois D' Argent (Bwa Dar Zhone)!! I love this scent and am grateful that the bottle is so generous that it comes in.. A signature scent must!! I love, Love, LOVE this juice!! A strong 10 in all categories including projection and longevity. The scent is light yet aromatic, but it permeates ..I prefer during warmer weather, and am totally and completely smitten by this euphoric scent..

Bois d’argent smells elegant, sophisticated and expensive.

On my skin opens with dry and dusty notes of iris, musk, wood, myrrh and very subtle leather; as time goes by it gets softer and warmer while the dry notes became less detectable.

The fragrance is suitable both for formal occasions and every day use.
It's really versatile as it does not contain any ingredient that is typically feminine or masculine, or overwhelming in any way.
I really suggest everyone to give it a try
