Dior Addict is a wondeful perfume! Il smells like powdery vanilla and tonka bean.

I don't think it's old-fashioned at all, in fact I find this vanilla smell classic enough to be timeless ; something that will last for decades without any problems.

Very nice staying power and sillage.

This perfume stands as a paragon of excellence in my olfactory collection. Among my favorites, its allure is truly captivating, mirroring its aptly named essence of addiction. A delicate fragrance tailored for individuals with deeper complexions, it exudes a mysterious aura through its scent, yet emanates a creamy and milky essence, evoking the aroma of a chai tea latte. For enthusiasts of fragrances infused with vanilla, white florals, and the aromatic profile of chai tea latte, this fragrance presents an ideal choice. Its personality embodies a unique blend of boldness and sensitivity, darkness and elegance, confidence and reticence. Moreover, its allure carries a distinctly alluring and seductive undertone.

Smells nice, definitely very powdery and floral at first, with some musk. I give it like a 7.5/10.

Question , how to I know which formulation I have ? I have just gifted one which to me smells just the same like the initial one with gold atomiser which was the 2002 one…

Ano96

You people need to quit reviewing the 2014 reformulation on this page lol this is for the OG 2002 version

Rjhuggi

IM AN ADDICT! I love this! I just tested this for the first time and I'll tell you i was disappointed at first stiff but oh boy, next time i tried this i fell in love and bought a 3.4 oz bottle. It's so damn sexy!

wondervalley666

Reviewing a 2016 used bottle I recently picked up:

It's not bad. But it's not groundbreaking any longer. My chemistry has yet to find a Dior scent it agrees with. All the poisons turn to playdoh on me. This somehow develops a peekaboo playdoh scent on me too. I'm baffled as to why.

When I first smelled the bottle, I thought it smelled just like CK Obsession. When I sprayed, I thought the bottle was dead as it seemed like pure alcohol water. As it dried down, it developed the same vanilla as Obsession on my skin, but without as strong of a cinnamon/chai/incense note that I love in Obsession. The vanilla part is nice. It sometimes turns a bit like playdoh on me though as I said, coming and going at random moments. Doesn't project like crazy on me. Frankly, I prefer Obsession. Obsession smells a bit more vintage in the opening with the spices, but dries down to probably the best spicy sweet vanilla gourmand I've ever worn on my skin, which resembles Addict, but works better with my chemistry and stands out more to my nose. Obsession is also dirt cheap nowadays.

I also just scrolled down below to see another reviewer make the same comparison, so at least I'm not crazy.

I will try a few more times with Addict and hopefully return to eat crow and sing praises!

I got this because of all the rave reviews I’ve seen. I know they are for the older version but I hoped this newer version would be close. Based on what I’m smelling, it can’t be. It’s so lemony. I don’t smell much of the wonderful deeper notes that are listed and make it sound layered and complex, with some depth to it. It’s very cologney on me, kind of reminiscent of a bracing man’s aftershave. I see the vintage version on EBay and I’m tempted but lately I’ve had some not so good luck with vintage fragrances I’ve bought there. So I don’t know. Maybe I never get to experience this as it was originally intended to be. I guess I understand if the reformulation is due to allergy restrictions etc, but if it’s due to Dior cost cutting, that’s a bummer when so many people love this. I wish I had picked it up years ago.

RottigrlNYC

I don’t care what ppl say about this perfume, I love it, it’s unlike any of my other 800 perfumes . I just wish they didn’t reformulate it. It’s weaker now and my older bottle is only 50ml and it won’t last for ever. Sigh …..

JKanyce

Something smells EXTREMELY lemony to me. Like a lemon that makes you pucker. Sure, I can smell the beautiful florals in the background, but I swear there is some lemon SCREECHING though even after several hours.

Lolafraglover

Tonka bean going strong on me,very spicy indeed. Oddly or not, it reminded me of Calvin Klein's Obsession which i disliked. Not a beast as Obsession, but immediately reminded me of that perfume. Great projection and longevity for sure, but not a fan. Fortunately not headache inducing, but 2 to 3 spritz max goes a long way...

I was wearing the 2014 Dior Addict reformulation--the current version--last night and earlier today, and I just now decided to refresh with a precious spritz of my immaculately preserved 2002 bottle, which is highly concentrated but so much richer and boozier and more aromatic than the newer version that it barely smells like the same fragrance at first. The two formulations grow more similar a few hours into the drydown, but overall, at least to my nose, the 2002 version is sexier, creamier, more floral--the night-blooming cereus really sings!--and somewhat spicier. The cinnamon notes are deeper; the vanilla is darker and boozier; the jasmine is a little darker and skankier. Gender is a social construct, and everyone can wear whatever they want, but I consider the 2002 a scintilla more butch. When I wear the reformulation, my husband invokes the Pillsbury Doughboy and bakery aromas; when I wear the 2002 version, he thinks of it as a totally different perfume, which I guess, in a way, it is. I love them both, and I would never say that the current version is a travesty, but something tells me that the new stuff won't smell nearly this great 20 years down the line. (It doesn't have the Mysore sandalwood, for one--a sad reality that makes me treasure this 2002 version all the more and feel grateful to the wonderful decanter who sold it to me, Sarah of the Etsy store SarahsPerfume. I doubt she has another vintage bottle of Addict to sell, but I highly recommend checking out her decant shop, which is first rate, and you never know what might turn up. She knows her stuff for sure.

GirlOnFire

My batch code shows me that my bottle is the original formulation, circa 2004 and pre-2007. Over the years I had tested the newer formulations at Sephora and let me just say the original formulation really is a gorgeous, superior version. The newer ones felt so pale and flat in comparison, whereas the original is a very creamy, luscious, narcotic white floral with mysore sandalwood and blackberry and a very smooth and rich vanilla and tonka bean base. I now understand why people say this is a very sexy scent. Absolutely worth the money if you can get a vintage.

Aeternitas

Addict - specifically the EDP - is a beast of a woman. You will find yourself completely enveloped by a heady shroud of mystical florals, then slowly and helplessly immersed into the darkly sweet base notes of vanilla and sandalwood. There is a tinge of mandarin that desperately lingers like a slow kiss; it is the one note that keeps you from slipping under Addict's spell entirely. Addict is truly the sensual bouquet of a villainess.

Now, I did not know a thing about reformulations until I decided to revisit this website and look at the reviews for Addict. Apparently, there were two reformulations of Dior Addict, but I am lucky enough to still have my bottle (edp) I bought in 2011. I cannot speak for the later versions, but I am sorry to hear it is not the same!

I have always loved Addict, though she certainly took a backseat in my collection for many years. I decided to give her the attention she deserved after all that time, so here I sit, wearing Addict and striking keys.

This is one of the longest wearing perfumes I own. It's a winter scent, by far. You couldn't pay me enough to wear this in the heat of a Texas summer :p
When I spray this, I go very lightly because a little goes a VERY long way. I cannot express enough how strong this fragrance can be! It will absolutely wear YOU, potentially smothering the poor, unsuspecting souls within your orbit if you overdo it.

If you like a bold, sexy fragrance that borders the edge of danger, Addict is for you.

Cydonia_Merula

The Blackberry, the orange blossom, the rose, the vanilla! This is what my nose senses!
I am at my second bottle now, since September 2016; I had it before, back in spring 2008, when my not yet husband gave it to me as a present. I used to wear it all the time, I was obsessed with it. And back then, one of my coworkers told me one day that she could sense me I was coming, before the elevator would stop on the floor - that's how powerful it was! So maybe not for closed office space I would say.
Nowadays I only take it out in the middle of September and wear it on the 1st Wiesn day and only when I feel like it because I don't want it to finish. I'm afraid that it got reformulated again.
So yeagh: for me this is the definition of pure lust, literally can't get enough of it - no wonder they decided on the name "Addict". I enjoy how it goes perfectly with my personality, lasts for days on my skin (even longer on hair and clothes) and I strongly agree that the price ratio performance is outstanding!

Lelena

2024 Addict user here.

Ok hear me out. Im in love again with this perfume. I know, I know, reformulation, they butchered our sweet child, how dare them… I understand. As a person who also knows what Addict was before the reformulation I understand 100 percent what people are talking about. If you are searching for the Addict you knew a decade or so ago you wont be able to find the one you are searching for, BUT let’s be honest, are we also the same people when we were a decade ago? No. So with this mentality I am quite enjoying Addict back again.

I used the OG formula when I was quite young. This perfume was one or two sizes bigger for me at that time yet shamelessly and fearlessly I enjoyed and wore it. Giving no heck about weather, season or time of the day. There are probably some victims I left in my pass which I tortured with wearing OG Addict at summer time (sorry).

Anyway, after a decade later I was in perfume limbo, not liking any perfume I have at home, not liking any new perfume on the market, so I decided to go nostalgic and bought a small bottle of Addict.

It was like meeting with an old friend years and years later. It was still the Addict I knew but definitely changed and I liked it. More citrusy/ green with a tad bit of less vanilla but it was what I was searching for at the end for me.

Oh, the confidence boost with sprinkles of nostalgia, plus knowing that I am an adult now, finally Addict and I align beautifully.

It stays on my skin all day, losing projection slowly in time. Addict is one of the perfumes that I own which compliments my skin chemistry impeccably. So glad that I gave the reformulation a chance and so glad that we met back again with my old new/ friend.

Pars America

This is one of our unisex perfumes that me and my wife share and indeed feels very nice during the day, at the beach, or in open space activities in general.
The scent is so smooth and it lasts pretty well on our skin during the hot days or even cold afternoons.
The price is also fine for such a quality...

KleinenFuchs

I hade 6 bottles from the first edition and this was my signature ✍️, So sad it’s butchered so badly from #dior :(

LOST_HORIZON

Dior Addict from 2002 is the libidinous vanilla fragrance for the night. It is an overwhelming, sensual and dark aroma with the most magnificent Dior bourbon vanilla ever. Its addition of powerful flowers sets it apart from other fragrances, because it is bold and shameless. They don't make perfumes like that anymore, it's a beautiful nocturnal beast

vanillaorchid

Ooh, it's spicy! Very spicy indeed! Such an interesting take on vanilla, just not my cup of tea. Not generic, would make up a nice gift imo.

stella.cherie

Aromatic, creamy, and delicate floral. This is incredibly well-composed, especially compared to the current formulation which basically smells like citrus rinds with a whisper of orange blossom. This is really quite a stunning creation, and I’m the pickiest when it comes frags.

While beautiful, this scent is not for me. There’s a slight mature feel to this—like a woman in her early adulthood who wants to be taken seriously as someone who is elegant. So she goes and buys herself a tweed Chanel suit, shops at Bergdorfs, meets with her friends over tea at the Plaza—and sprays this on before she meets with them.

IVamp

Used to be my signature for a long time. Hypnotic, sweet, dark, addictive (the name says it all in this case). Head-turner, majestic, extremely sensual. Of course, they just had to ruin it...The new version is not bad but it's nothing like the original, neither the scent nor the performance. 3-4 sprays and it would linger on my clothes and even on my pillow for 2 days. Many people disliked this perfume because it was too overpowering and sweet, but I think it was one of the best and most iconic ones, a real classic.

RottigrlNYC

I used to love this perfume back when i was in my 20’s. I still have a half bottle left of the original around here somewhere. I recently purchased another bottle of Addict, forgetting about the big 2020 reformulations and omg I was so disappointed. It’s been terribly butchered and now it’s just a ghost of its former self and it doesn’t last longer than a half hour. Dior always pulls this shit. This is why Dior is my least favorite perfume house. Dior perfume quality has gone way down. I remember what they did to J’Adore. They horribly ruined it, it’s now the worst POS I’ve ever smelt. I realize most of the big perfume houses panicked in 2020 during Covid coz most ppl were only buying necessities, so they all severely reformulated their perfumes (aka weakened them all) but when things got back to normal they should have gotten rid of the reformulated crap at 80% off and get the quality back up. Coz nobody wants to pay top dollar for garbage perfume. I told ppl DON’T buy any perfume in 2020. I know what’s going on. Most ppl don’t. I assumed the bottle I bought was pre 2020. I was wrong. Smh. I guess I’ll save it as a room freshener and guest room sheets freshener. It’s really not good for anything else…. Smh

Gabrooch

I do not think I would wear it myself, still, I like getting the silage from other ladies. Ladies, because I do not imagine it on men somehow. It is vanilla pods with blackberries squeezed in hand. Yummy juice!

rene.saller

I was fortunate enough to obtain an immaculately preserved half bottle (smaller one) of the OG 2002 formulation of Addict, and I'm delighted by it. As much as I love the 2014 reformulation by Demachy, Wasser's original seems more complex, even when I account for the two-decades' worth of additional maturation. (Two sprays of this stuff is MORE than adequate, and the current formulation of Dior, insanely potent as it is, doesn't seem quite as concentrated.)

I find that the night-blooming cereus note--a scent I know very well because my husband's mother gave us an enormous 50-year-old one that blooms prolifically every summer--pops more for me in this one, but I can't tell if it's the power of suggestion (because I have seen and compared the note pyramids for both this and the 2014 formulation, where night-blooming cereus or Queen of the Night is no longer listed), or if it's just so beautifully melded with the Bourbon vanilla and the other florals (rose, mimosa, neither of which is mentioned in the obviously incomplete pyramid for the 2014 Demachy reformulation) that it's not leaping out at me as much as I expected. All in all, I'm not 100% confident that I will be able to pass a blind sniff test tomorrow, but I'll update this review whether I pass or fail. I'm also going to administer the blind test to my friend, just to see how our perceptions vary, if at all.

Into the drydown, I pick up more of the aromatics, more of the balsams. It's getting very deep and boozy, this bourbon vanilla, and I can see why it reads as masculine to some noses (not to mine). It's just very dark and splendid, with a piquant, almost pungent, citrussy white floral top note: that Queen of the Night, the night-blooming cereus, whose perfume has a tartness that borders on acrid sometimes, a coloratura soprano's siren song for luring in all the night pollinators. I think doing a blind sniff test of 2002 vs. my new bottle of the 2014 reformulation (since reformulated again, I'm sure) will be difficult unless I wait for the drydown, and I don't know if the differences will be apparent on paper and not skin. But I'm going to cherish and hoard this original stuff like the precious elixir that it is!

Update: My sniff-test plans fell through, so I decided to conduct my own experiment, with Dior OG Addict on the left inner elbow and current (2014 ostensibly, but a new bottle nine years later, so who can say) Dior Addict on the right inner elbow. I asked my long-suffering, not particularly perfume-oriented husband to smell the insides of each of my elbows, and he indulged me. He found them quite different, even before the drydown--he noticed right away that the OG is sharper and more aromatic, with a more pronounced dark booziness to the vanilla, and it's not as sweet and floral-girly as the one that's out now, and much more popular than the OG was everywhere except, oddly, Russia. (Or so I have read.) I think I'm smelling the night-blooming cereus more prominently, which accounts for the almost acrid citrussy notes hovering over the florals. The real night-blooming cereus blossom has that slight acridity, too, hovering between intoxicating and pungent, especially when fully opened

Of course, I don't know if my version smells like it smelled in 2002--it's likely become more concentrated, well-preserved as it is. The atomizer is much cooler and more complex than the other version, but it also makes it more difficult to decant (not that I'm going to be sharing the precious and very finite store that I possess). The new bottle is elegant enough, the same bewitching shade of indigo glass, but it is not as interesting and arty as the first one, which is notoriously tetchy and looks like it could break at any moment because it's so Rube Goldbergy, but which is also delightful and, yes, addictive to use. On the new version, the one under Demachy's imprimatur, the little button on the top is merely decorative; it is infinitely more fun to turn the little knob and activate the sprayer on the old version, but maybe people want more predictability and less whimsy in their drug-promoting fragrance receptacles.

For me, the new Dior Addict is recognizably Addict, but it's somewhat insipid when you compare it to the original version, and even then it's not a fair comparison. It's possible that the current formulation will deepen appreciably in 21 years. I might not be around to find out, and I don't have a time machine, so I could never compare apples to apples or oranges to oranges or Wasser to Demachy after all. I do enjoy this side-by-side comparison, and I like the overall effect of wearing two formulations of the same perfume at once. I just hope my growing love of the OG Addict doesn't ruin the 2014 formulation for me now that I see that the differences are perceptible throughout the wearing, not just at the end. The new Addict juice is also more or less clear, or a pale color, whereas the OG one is a deep reddish amber--in fact, it's so dark that it might stain any fabric that wasn't black.

tl;dr summary: I love both Addicts, but I love the OG more. The new formulation is probably more wearable and more overtly feminine, but the old one has that piquant night-blooming cereus note and an aromatic sharpness that make it that much more special and unusual to me. I think I will reserve my OG Addict for significant occasions and wear the newer formulation (the most current one) when I want to smell wonderful in a less memorable but also less polarizing kind of way.

rene.saller

I have been longing for a vintage bottle of this so I can enjoy the night-blooming cereus note; I have a 50-year-old plant that is a prolific bloomer, and I am very familiar with their heady aroma. Unfortunately, the new formulation seems to have excised that note. I just ordered (from a very trusted source) a half-full 1.7-ounce bottle of the original vintage, and I simply can't wait to do a right-elbow/left-elbow comparison of the two formulations. If I do end up loving the vintage Dior Addict so much more than the newer formulation, I'll just save those sprays for special occasions and wear the newer one when I don't need the full experience. Will update soon, after my precious vintage bottle arrives.

Fenissa

@dcjimr you'd have tried one of the post-2014 reformulated versions at Sephora, not this little gem.

Smokeandhoney

This is a treasured piece of my collection. My oh my I just pick up the bottle off my shelf just to sniff it. I scored a full, untouched 100ml demonstration bottle for £70! From Vinted! I could not believe it.

Dark amber liquid in dark blue glass. Dense, comforting, cozy, sophisticated, sexy, grown. Way ahead of its time when released in 2002. There’s a slight green nuance that creates a slight expansiveness to the composition, working with the fruits and florals beautifully and balancing the vanilla absolute and tonka. The mysore sandalwood in here is to die for. There isn’t much to say about Addict that hasn’t already been said. Smooth, vanillic, almost chocolatey powdery but dense and thick syrupy. Eyes rolling back gorgeousness.

Emoody

This perfume smells so much like weed, I got multiple people asking me if I smoke when I wore this.

FabricatedFashion

I recently was gifted a decant of this. I’d forgotten what a beautiful scent this is. Elegant and beautiful. I am rediscovering old favourites. And this is easily in the top 5.

FallenLeaf

The Perfume People do a vegan cruelty free dupe of the 2002 version & it is absolutely gorgeous! I love it!

LotsofLisa76

I had to take a knee… Addict was my signature many years ago and I was IN. LOVE. On a whim I just ordered a big bottle for the cold seasons. How could I have forgotten!? HOW!?… The first whiff was a rolling wave of a smooth vanilla, Tonka dream on a powdery pillow, then came the memories. I’m so glad this was a good time in my life, so I can thoroughly enjoy one of my first designer fragrance obsessions. Tresor Nuit la Folie, Libre Intense, Amouage Material, Perfect Intense, Addict and L’interdint Rouge have me on lock for the cold weather seasons.

Hesssa21

This is definitely on the mature side in my opinion. Although this perfume is not from 80s it reminds me of the fragrances from that era. In the opening I get green notes with the blossom; then it develops further and I definitely get the orange blossom with hints of a green rose note along with hints of jasmine. Then, in the dry down I can smell all the base notes with the tonka bean and sandalwood being more prominent. Overall this perfume is spicy but fresh because of the white florals, green notes and blackberry but it's also lightly woody too. It's just not something I ever reach for as it's completely not my taste and I feel like a 40+ year old woman when I wear it (not that there's anything wrong with that;) )

KittyBaditty

This was a blind buy way back in 2005. As a 20 year old wearing Givenchy Hot Couture, BS Fantasy and Lolita Lempicka, it did not suit me. At. All. Addict was owning my ass and wearing me like a sad little teenybopper meat suit.

But it was the most money I'd ever paid for a fragrance, it was fancy, and I hoped to one day be the confident, sexy, has-her-shit-together woman who could wear this. I put it back in its box and packed it away.

Fast forward to 2020, I was Marie Kondo-ing my collection and rediscovered this. It is incredible. Warm, deep, smoky vanilla and creamy jasmine, with a hint of orange blossom, sweet Tonka, and something rich. This is grown up and sexy and full bodied and clean and inviting, and lasts all day and night. I would wear it forever but can't find a replacement, so I now have half a bottle to last every special occasion for the rest of my life.

If it matters, this is a huge compliment getter from both men and women. Strangers have tried to sniff me when I'm not looking.

suzanne_ronald

2002 Vintage Amber-Floral by Thierry Wasser and Christian Dussoulier. This version was a bit like coffee-cake or bread-pudding cake with hint of cinnamon spice from the Bourbon vanilla (to be clear, coffee-cake doesn't have coffee in it, but rather it's a specific cake that was popular to eat while drinking coffee). Soooo likeable and enjoyable, but either sexy or mom-sy depending on your associations to coffee-cake, which the polarized reviews attest to. I gifted this to my sister back in the day, a mother of four, but I did regret it and thought of it sometimes. I enjoy the new version just as much, or maybe a bit more, as the citrus-florals are a bit more forward (or my nose is smarter now), but the delectable gourmand notes remain underneath. The Dior DNA is definitely present, and an oversimplified description would be a layer of Dune Dior on top of a layer of Hypnotic Poison. In the late, late drydown, Dolce Vita Dior also has a similar DNA. Bottom line is, if I had this original beauty again, I wouldn't give her away. It's a love for me. Enjoy!

2whit2quit

This fragrance will live in my heart forever. My high school best friend used to wear Addict at the tender age of 16; entirely too young for it but rocked the hell out of it! She looked older than 16 and was bossy to match, so it actually fit her well. We knew it was some sort of magic elixir, but had we known it’d be forever reformulated, I would have urged her to buy plenty of backups. Ugh!! To this day I cannot smell Dior Addict and not think of her.

selinacat

2002/2012 version, if you were into Dr. Pepper lipsmackers & cola gummies as a kid, you will LOVE this as an adult. The nostalgia really wraps you in a comfy cloak of safety. The vanilla amber base seemlessly ages that vibe to something mature and sexy. The result is true sexy confidence. You aren't trying, you truly are. (Chemistry permitting ).

A sexy bulletproof elder madame & fun loving girly in one. 2012 is close, but its deep creamy/crisp where this is deep creamy/umami.

Great for fall & winter
Update: You can buy it for around the same price as the current formula. Thanks to the bottles, it's way less risky. bought 10ml, & felt so "right" I got another 130mL. The scent is incredibly distinctive & too polarizing to be worth scamming

Sophisticated classy and elegant. After having a small sample for months I decided to try this one last night. 10 hours later and it's still lingering. Great vanilla and jasmine fragrance that is more meant to be worn dressed up than dressed down. A lot of the reviews say that this is masculine and I can see it being unisex. Guys that love Dior Feve should give this one a try.

Lotte_Liese

The white florals in addict smell the same as those in poison girl- like detergent powder and headache inducing. I can't understand why I have no love for this when others seem to be smelling something great.

MrsGerrie

Love it, love it, love it. Shui-Xian gives a good description. Only I will be an addict ;). Love at first sight....well, smell.

Update, I gave it to someone else. There was something in it that disturbed me more and more. A kind of thick heavy scent that sticks in my nose. It is a wonderful perfume and a lovely scent but on my skin it is not the perfect match.

ladykatherine

This perfume is interesting -- the smell itself is a bit average to me (sort of a gourmand / white floral) and I feel like a different person when I wear it; like someone's rich divorced aunt when I wear it, which is a plus I suppose. This perfume is very much an evening scent for me, though it could be nice for daytime in the winter or in small amounts. I don't usually reach for this, but I can put it on and still enjoy the smell.

Shui-Xian

Alluring perfume, strong and divine, but I won't be addict.

The opening is friuty-floral with nice touch of green leaves. Delightful on skin: soft, fresh, inspiring.
Nonetheless, when jasmine starts to developing, the scent smells heavy, a bit dusty. The middle doesn't seem to me original. Rose is elegant, but not clean.
Very pleasant about the base is tonka. I love the spiciness, which resembles a clove. With vanilla and sandalwood it's gourmand, a bit smoky.

Dior Addict won't be my choice but definitely it is luxury, appellative and sensual perfume for confident women.
Strong projection, longevity almost 8hrs.

saho93

I don’t know why, but I get Guerlain Shalimar vibe from this—though not the opening as this one has berry sour notes while Shalimar has sharp citrus notes. But both over time transforms similarly with smoky vanilla. I find Addict to be easier to wear than Shalimar.

Addict is timeless classy, complex, unique. Smells luxe, opulent, rich. Very well formulated.

The lipstick-like bottle is interesting.

I do like this better than the 2014 formulation.

3 hours later: I am really liking this. Alluring vanilla.

Melody Valentine

Gorgeous. I sprayed this on my skin back in around 2003 or 2004 in a chemist and I could still smell it days later on the wrist part of my top I'd had on that day. A floral but spicy and powdery one. One of my all time favourite perfumes. Very grown up but not outdated, of that's even a thing. Not a teeny bopper first perfume kinda scent. If you only like things like Britney Spears Fantasy or any super sweet perfume then you'll probably not like it. It's appropriate for any situation, work, or dressed up for a date or going out clubbing. I find it very sexy. I don't currently have it to smell now to describe but it's slightly powdery, slightly spicy, slightly sweet, slightly floral, and very strong. I feel like Dior got the blend of everything just perfect. I can see what people mean by cinnamon and there is definitely a nice vanilla smell but it's balanced by the white florsls so it stops short of being gourmand. The jasmine reminds me of the Jasmine in Alien but overall they're very different scents. It has a sort of "fizzy" texture to me, as if it's some sort of pop but a very expensive one with flowers added in the mix. It was a long time in between smelling this version and owning the newer formulation so I couldn't really tell a massive difference but I'm sure if I was able to smell the og side by side I would. I don't pick up any blackberry in the current one so I'm gonna look now to see if that's been taken out. I do remember a hint of orange. The first time I smelled Armani Code it reminded me of Addict a bit.

Jennaflareon

A very strong scent. You have to be very careful with the spraying.

I've had mine for many years and always thought it was too much. But now it's becoming mor age-appropriate for me. It's a mature scent.

A tip is to spray it a couple of hours before the happening, because it is really the dry-down that is magical.

KimberMoon

I've been told I smell like sweet cigars while wearing this to the office, and I kinda get it. It's really pretty with a light hand, but over do it and you're gonna make enemies. It is mostly sweet vanilla/cinnamon/orange blossom to my nose, and I wear it when dressed up for the most part, it isn't a casual fragrance to me. It's too intense.

fragmore

I've got 200 ml Dior Addict Body Milk purchased in 2008 from Sears, sealed and two 50 ml EDP, one is sealed, another is just lightly used with a box. I am willing to trade it to someone in Canada.

DrRosie

LOL @mikajla - One would say the same thing to you "don't come near me when you are wearing your favorite Britney Spears water bottle.

peachygal

This is an extraordinarily unique, sexy, beastly bomb of a fragrance. It is not for the meek and mild. This is your outgoing fun flirty alcohol loving party friends perfume. This is a perfume for those who like to be noticed.

It is super sexy, extremely vanilla, sweet, deep and dark.

I adore her and always will.

hedward

@ambervxyjul

Okay, then maybe post and read the reviews on the Dior Addict (2014) page and don't come to complain on the page dedicated to the original version? It has a separate page because they're literally different perfumes made by different perfumers.

ambervxyjul

So tired of all the reviews talking about the old formulation. 90% of people are buying this from Macy’s and Nordstrom's in these times so quit raving about the 2004 formulation and focus on the scent sold on the counters TODAY. People come to this page to see reviews while in store shopping, they don’t need your love letter about the 2005 re formulation bottles.

Anyways, I love this scent! I always adored it because it’s so different to anything being created now. It has vanilla as a strong point but powder that covers it. It can smell mature to people but I just adore it. To me, it’s addictive and sultry. It’s a boss lady scent but yet sweet and inviting. To me it smells like a vanilla root beer float without all the sugar. Boozy, comforting and addictive. I feel men would go feral for this. It’s on the same line as hypnotic poison but minus the almond notes.

It is expensive but the longevity is great 8.5/10 and the projection is 9/10! Be ready for compliments.

Creamy_ambrette

Make sure you are leaving a review for the 2002 version and not the 2014 version which has a silver band, a cap that comes from to spray - not a twist knob. that version is a pleasant but soapy white floral with slightly spiced vanilla dry down- nothing like that amazing fragrance you get when you smell the 2002 and 2012 versions.

autumnblue914

Heavy floral soap with heavy vanilla. Heavy in the sense of the feeling in how it oppresses and sticks to the nose. If I had to put something similar to it I'd say the "feeling" is the similar to the "texture" of smelling sweat, if that makes any sense. The way it interacts with the sense of smell is similar.

It's nice in concept but for my taste it's too strong and really harsh on the nose with the way it smells.

Edit: Unsure if it's 2002, 2012 or 2014 version as it just said Dior Addict on the small bottle. So I haven't seen the original bottle it was taken from.

KAYAGIRL

I have about 10ml left of the OG gold lid bottle and I don't want to use it I just knoooow I won't be able to get this beautiful perfume back ever again.
In my top 10
Absolutely love looove

rosetinteddream

I’ve had this version for a few weeks now. I found an OG 20 ml spray bottle for a really fair price and decided to see what it was about.

I think the top notes and heart have completely vanished. I do wish I could smell those as when I sprayed this one originally, it smelled like not what I was expecting. I was reminded of the top and heart notes of a vintage bottle of Obsession that I have. Then it dried down to the vanilla, sandalwood, and tonka base. It seemed to stay around and project for several hours, I eventually took a shower but it was going strong before. I could smell traces of it after the shower, before I dried off and moisturized.

I sprayed it today and I swear it immediately went to the base. I did one spray on my wrist and I was immediately met with a strong waft of vanilla. This is really strong and powerful. It does have some spice to it, even though there’s not a lot listed in the notes to give it that. Maybe it’s just a perception of spice. And there is a sense of floral notes to me, but they seemed to have completely melded into the composition as a way to balance it. I don’t smell any of them in particular. After it really dries down, the sandalwood comes through a little bit more with the vanilla and tonka and there’s a powderiness to it. It kinda reminds me of an almond sugar body scrub, and vanilla/shortbread cookies. Buuuuut it is not a gourmand, it doesn’t go there. I don’t know how to describe it, but it’s really nice! I haven’t seen a bottle of the recent formulation on any shelves so I don’t know what it’s like. Considering how strong this is, and how many other loved bottles I have, I think this one will last me quite some time.

🥀

Update 07/13 - Ok so I know that this isn’t meant to be worn in the summer heat. HOWEVER, my skin seems to just eat up fragrances so sometimes I do actually wear my fall/winter perfumes in the summer. Sometimes the heat makes them not only bloom, but stick around on my oily skin. Anyways, I’ve worn this a few times since it has gotten hot and it is absolutely so divine. Now I know why it’s so loved, and can only imagine the disappointment to many by the reformulation that I am hesitant to eventually try. My 20 ml bottle should last me a while as I really only need a few sprays of this, it has aged beautifully since it’s production (I can’t remember if mine is from 2002 or 2003 from when I looked up its batch code number). But I can’t help but yearn for a larger bottle. I would like to have this ALWAYS. I guess you could say that I have now become addicted to it. I smack my hand away from it as I can’t bare it not being in my reach any longer.

razorsinthenight

Been wearing this since I was a teenager when it came out! Was one of those fragrances that got me interested in the subject. I recommend it to anyone who enjoys vanilla and dr. Pepper? Lol there is a slight spice to it from the Tonka bean mixed with all that citrus/fruity, florals and vanilla and it gives me dr. Pepper vibes! Great for a night out.

Gannibalka

This is my Fall time perfume. My boyfriend says it smells like a cozy vanilla candle. It is very strong so I just spray in once in my hair and it lasts all day. I always get compliments on this one.

silverlocusts

Pure tonka-vanilla syrup. Not the funky tonka that can lean toward vanilla beans or even tobacco, but the saccarine-sweet, thick tonka reminiscent of soda syrup. Everyone says this perfume smells like Coca-Cola or Dr. Pepper, and they are correct, in a way. To me there's no effervescence or "lift" because the tonka is so heavy-handed. If it had a little extra zing I think I'd love it, but as it stands it is dated in that it does not have much nuance to it at all. The bottle is iconic, and I love the deep blue of the glass itself, but the juice inside is fairly boring at this stage in the game.

al-lewinsky

The most recent reformulation of this is a major no for me but I looveee this OG version. Really sexy and sophisticated (can be quite heady at 1st) but eventually dries down into smth very cute that'll persist overnight (for days even if you spritz it in your hair). You just feel like a very sexy cute kitten on this.

unrealgirl

really yummy cinnamon scent, more on the mature side tho

LanaDelSlay

Weird because what I detect is cinammon and some other kind of spice..

bananapancake

It's just a no for me. The scent is just too cloying and powdery at the same time with no balance in the scent, just one dimensional. I had high expectation but it was disappointing.

Sarahlm

I'm shocked by how popular this is.
I know everyone gets something different out of a perfume and everyone has different taste but yikes... This was the in the top 3 most horrid smelling perfumes I have ever smelled it might actually be the worst..
The Mandarin leaf is really strong and I can't stand it, it actually leaves me feeling nauseated when smelling it.

lynnphi

Snagged an older gold cap bottle of this. I was absolutely obsessed with Dior Addict back in 2004 - before an evening out, I'd go into Sephora and spray myself with this when I wanted to feel confident, bold and sexy. I loved the vanilla bourbon combination that made me feel so alive. Spraying this nearly 20 years later, I still love it and find it still unique amongst the many vanilla booze combos now available in the market. What I am now also realizing is that the drydown is classic Dior DNA - something I did not pick up way back when. Dior DNA and I do not mix. Because of that, it's a pass for me. But I'll still spray in the air for that gorgeous opening.

LiliiiS

twelve years ago, I wasn't able to find Kenzo Amour which was my signature back then and a seller recommended me to buy Dior Addict instead. I used a bottle of Addict and I remember it to be a dark, earthy, spicy vanilla scent. now I have a bottle of the new Addict (it's batch code says it's made in 2016,so not really new) and it's very different from what I remember as the old version. a fresh, green note which I think is mandarin leaf and white flowers(mostly orange flower) are as dominant as vanilla. it's not a really dark scent, not too sweet or masculine either. I'd rather call it a slightly powdery vanilla floral scent with a fresh edge.
anyway it's beautiful and it's more easy to wear than I thought. now that I'm wearing it in a supercold winter night I think that's it's not even a real winter perfume. I guess I will prefer it in autumn and cool spring nights. longevity and sillage are both very good but I won't call it beast mode. It has a class, dignity and calmness that I didn't expect and surprised me in a good way.

clairegram

There must be an issue with newest batches. Bottles from 2022 have no sillage or lasting power. This one lasts 30 minutes on the skin. I think that this perfume has been reformulated and watered down and I am not the only one saying this.

Kiwigoddess

This fragrance is nice but after purchasing a bottle of it last year, I have discovered I don't actually love it like I used to about 15 years ago. In my opinion, this could be worn daytime or night time. It could be worn to the office, out for a dink in the evening, or on a date. I find the vanilla to be quite prominent in it. It definitly has some staying power as I could still smell it, although it was close to the skin, some 12-13 hours after spraying it. Not bad, but not an amazing perfume either. It is what it is.

Ambrocia scents

This smells, sweet, a little green, smokey, and vanilla-y. Very nice for women who like to take over the room when they enter. Yes, Im one of those women, so yes, it's very very nice.

amandavolpe

Herbaceous vanilla lipstick. Tried this at a store recently and there was a strong waft of greenery that my nose recognized as similar to rosemary. Reading the notes now, it might have been the mandarin leaves. Either way, this is greener than I expected!

AleshaA

No cinnamon ppl in this one non at all I’m sure that’s the new one this one’s based around moss deep moss like no other and sandalwood they don’t list it here but if you look up the original notes it has double dose of moss
close to vintage lolita L the very first 1997
Can smell wafts of vanilla when on the move but very subdued this is strictly moss the same moss that made vintage hypnotic poison so deep and powerful that’s why it was discontinued

I relate this to the time when daredevil was released and I was going crazy listening to evanescence my immortal what a Classic just the best times everrrr……..
I was totally rocking this delicious mysterious master piece

villiruusut

Recently got my hands on a miniature produced nearly 20 years ago. When I first opened the bottle, it smelt sharp and strong, but since letting it breathe and now applied on skin on a cold rainy day, it is the creamiest, cosiest vanilla and sandalwood combo. I do think it could choke someone out when applied in excess though, so be careful with this!

sofababe

Simply stunning!
The main note is vanilla, but thanks to the perfect mix of florals it's not at all cloying or sweet. Addict is cosy, soft, perfect for winter. The longevity and sillage are both astounding, a real compliment grabber too. I will never be without Dior Addict.

elenabianca03

It's strong and very sweet...and old fashion. Too heavy for me.

cherry99

it reminds me of salep, as if a smell of food and drink I don't think this is sexy. I especially used a tester for 1 week so as not to decide right away, but I didn't like it..

qqcheeky

I’m honestly a fan of Dior Addict. A sophisticated non-gourmand but sexy vanilla. Yes pleaseee

kmd

Man, I've heard so much about this online and really liked the sexy boss lady idea. I was also excited about some of the notes like blackberry, jasmine, and rose. Sadly, to me, the vanilla is overwhelming in a cloying and sickly way. It does get a bit more interesting and pretty to me after it mellows out (which is strange since vanilla is a base note), but I just do not see this one working out for me

mlleghoul

Dior Addict is a billowing cloud of honeyed amber and vanilla, jasmine and orange blossom with creamy tonka bean chiffon sandalwood lace. It’s femme fatale by way of baroque gothic lolita.

(SECOND PARAGRAPH FOR FRAGRANCE REVIEW) The first formulation I became "addicted" to was the 2012 rendition. It was sweet but spicy, bold but comforting. I wasn't sure if I actually wanted it in my collection, but I ran to smell it again and again and again - month after month. For some reason, I was the only one who ever picked up a cinnamon note. A fragrance I never thought I would wear, I now craved. A few months ago, I found myself smelling a 2014 bottle; at the time, I didn't know there were so many reformulations (oh, Dior) but something seemed a little less forward about it. I thought maybe the tester was a bit off from storage or whatever else. Never thought twice about it until doing some poking around into all the different formulations. Coincidentally, I had pictures of the fragrance I originally smelled (gold atomizer within the bottle) versus the last one I smelled (removable cap with silver trim).

Now, I finally have my hands on about 40ml of the vintage formulation (a 100ml tester bottle) from a vintage collector who has a proper full bottle of this beauty. Wow, so unique. The vanilla is incredibly soft/smooth/creamy in texture (talking baby's booty here), but strong in fragrance. There is a soft powdery Play-Doh essence that I haven't heard anyone speak on. If you are familiar with Dior's Hypnotic Poison, you'll know what I mean... but it's much less sweet smelling. After testing them side by side: Hypnotic Poison is vanilla-scented Play-doh, whereas Addict is unscented Play-doh. I think it comes from a similar blend of vanilla and sandalwood. I think this makes the 2002 Addict a bit less sweet and feminine than the reformulations. There is still a bit of cinnamon spice I pick up on, but it's not dry like in the 2012 version - this is cinnamon steeped in warm milk like a latte. There is a grounding accord in it as well. I wouldn't call it earthy, but something of a sweet/damp/dark/velvety moss. It is incredibly elegant & sophisticated, but also incredibly soft. The essence of the fragrance almost reminds of Audrey Hepburn, in black and white, with her pixie cut. The sharpness (yin) and softness (yang) of a gamine facial structure. People say this fragrance is complex, but I would actually disagree. It's simplistic but has incredible depth. Overall, much softer than I would have ever imagined. I love it but may still want a 2012 bottle as well. The longevity is nice, but it sits quite close to the skin. The 2012 Addict projects very well... usually, you sacrifice one for the other in designer brands. After sleeping, the smell was untraceable on my skin and I usually have a slight reminisce left behind with stronger fragrances. I think the "vintage" bandwagon has persuaded people's memories a bit. It is very strong within the first couple of minutes but settles down quickly. For people to say this is a "powerhouse" confuses me a bit. I have a 2012 bottle coming in next week so I'll get to compare them side by side and choose only 1 to keep. Exciting! I will eventually compare that one to 2014 (though I know it's not my fav) for completeness' sake.

COMPARING THE ADDICTS: I'm going to update this once I test them side by side, as this is from scent memory (which we know lies). I would say that the DNA is definitely the same in all 3. They could be non-identical triplets. 2002 is soft-spoken, but not shy; she is delicate, but brave when she needs to speak up for herself. The vanillic & sandalwood creaminess is dreaminess, while the more powerful notes take a back seat. The 2012 is the bold sister; she is 2002 in reverse. She can be soft and elegant but prefers to take command and allow her softer side to be seen only with intimacy. She is a boozy & sweet vanilla but packs a spicy punch that is immediately noticed. 2014 hasn't quite formed her personality yet. She has some of the sweetness & spice from her sisters but hasn't committed to who she wants to be in this modern world. She is a unique gem but tends to feel overshadowed by her sisters' more defined identities.

I used to LOVE this! I bought Addict 6 yeas ago the first time and it was honestly a bomb, everybody asked me what I was wearing and had impressive sillage and longevity. I can’t even say how dissapointed I was when I ordered it again and ..nothing. Everything is changed, the smell, the longevity, now it lasts 2-3 hours max. it’s like a new fragrance , which I now can’t wait to get rid of it.. i don’t know if’s because of the reformulation.. but I was so dissapointed . This also happened with dior poison ..so sad

Nora Gad

At the first time i didn't like it at all but after a year i just got a sample OMG ,this is a beast, unique, different has a stunning vanilla note here it's so different from any Vanilla perfume, you have to wear it

rezzmail

Ok so I go to the Sephora fragrance wall after any minor inconvenience or bad day so there's not much to it for me after a while, but something must have changed in my nose cause Dior Addict is suddenly just so alluring and so so sexy.

I sprayed it on my wrist and immediately pulled out mercari and ebay to see if I needed to shell out the money for it in store. (I came to my senses and decided to wait)

But the way it stuck around on my skin and transformed into this creamy and sultry scent that I could see myself wearing and layering for the whole year and day out. It's very mature and it's surprising me at every whiff cause I've never been one for sweet gourmands

Rajahuss

This fragrance is amazing. Very mysterious and alluring. I love it!

likesleet

sweet vanilla blackberry leaf some white floral but not a lot

ssslus

When I smell rose + amber combo, there is a big chance that I will fall in love with it (or get ADDICTed). I remember when this came out. The day I tried it in a perfume store in Europe. I loved the scent, so sprayed it on and left. Later that day ( after kind of forgetting about it), I was waiting for a tram in a freezing cold weather. It was snowing heavily, so I buried my nose in the scarf that I was wearing around my neck and there it was. An unmistakable warm and spicy scent that is also calming to me. Beautifully blended (on my skin, I don't get that much orange for some reason and the vanilla accord is not as sweet and over the top as in other fragrances ). Every time I smell it, I remember that day like it was yesterday. They changed it a bit, but even after the reformulation, this is a beautiful fragrance. Great longevity and sillage. Will always have it near. Can definitely be unisex. Ok let me spray it on again...

YenSung

First of all Ann Summers have a dupe of this perfume that smells exactly like addict with same performance sooooo you don't need this, there's way cheaper options.
This used to be my signature scent many many years ago (17 maybe) and I guess our taste changes a lot throughout the years. This is nothing special, I don't see any sexiness in this perfume it's just an ok powdery perfume maybe an elevated baby powder. I don't even consider this to wear for bed I'm pretty happy using chanel mademoiselle for that purpose

ShaunMichael

This smells so much more expensive than it is. Def a heavy winter fragrance. It smells bewitching and sultry

Moo naggi

not aunti, but a mature scent, more "decided" than hypnotic poison, alien and black opium IMO."do not blind buy" tho,it wont go good with many sort of layers of personalities.
To me tho is one of my all time fav.

Fragrance Fan <3

This gives strong, feminine, mysterious, indepependent, confident vibes. It's sexy, but not "date night" sexy for me, more boss lady sexy. Like I imagine a female CEO wearing this.

The sillage is a 10 and longevity 10, most sillage and lasting power of any perfume I've tried. I get woody, vanilla and a lot of powder. I do get a green smell in the beginning which I don't like but it gets better when it dries down.

The dry down reminds me of Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille but TF is way more creamy/ gourmand whereas DA is more powdery/vanilla.

Croatian.Girl

I adore this Dior perfume. Smells addictive, dark, sensual, expensive vanillary. Must have. Drydown isn't best, but first 3 hours are wonderful!

stacia79

Sweet with sinister undertones, this one sneaks up on you and delivers something you did not expect. Begins as an enticing spiced vanilla but then dries down into something musky and smoky. That's when you realize it's too late, you are already craving more.

nicheperfumelover23

Feminine cloud of vanilla while managing to not be too sweet. I discovered this perfume in an airport while I was looking for a strong and powdery night time scent, and fell in love with it. Then, I met someone I really did not like, and she wore it every day which kind of ruined it for me. It lasts long, is beautiful. If it weren't for that lady, I'd wear it in the fall, winter, and early spring. This would not do well with sweat or warm weather.

mimircks

Blind buy... (was mad @husband). Don't ask. OKaaay, I get DELICIOUS spicy oranges.. cinnamon stick...almond... smells like something I want to drink in the winter ...in Europe...snowing outside...cuddling in a small fireplace lit B&B...later throwing on my boots & leather jacket (I DO need a new one, tho...), then walking down the street to the neighborhood cafe for some food because we're FAMISHED....just turning heads in jealousy. (dontcha wish your girlfriend was hot like me!) The dry down is a woody, creamsicle vanilla and...(WHAT)?! Whoo! Yeah...this is a whoooole winter mood for me. {soft purr]

sweet_teenagedream

This one is soo good😍 Dior Aaddict is one of the most delicious scents out there, in my opinion. It’s the perfect mix between sweet and sour. A cheesecake with juicy, tart blackberries and the most edible vanilla, heavenly💕

likesleet

sweet vanilla with blackberry (leaf). some floral. but very creamy

lauraimelda

This smells powdery, spicy and feminine. I mostly smell the powder and vanilla. This is a linear fragrance. And a little mature.

AlinkaSun

This is glamour of 2000s in a bottle. Truly iconic scent. I love and adore it. I wanted to wear it. BUT. It is my mom’s signature scent. She has been wearing for ages. As much as I love this perfume composition and performance, I can’t keep wearing it because I have this strange feeling of stealing an identity of my mom 😁. Call me crazy 😜. So I just gave my bottle of Dior Addict to my mom.
Aside from all these unnecessary details, I would totally recommend this perfume, even as blind buy. If you are into heavier, sweeter, vanilla heavy scents you will love it. It lasts and projects very loud. So be careful with how many sprays you do. It quickly can get overpowering. I can definitely smell mouthwatering combination of vanilla, mandarin, jasmine and tonal bean. Very sexy and empowering.

Ferra_Verto

Spicy & moist vanilla sponge cake, so yummy but still quite grownup. Perfect for autumn & winter, lasts for hours (10+) on the skin with a noticeable sillage. Definitely worth exploring.

Nurse_Ratchet_82

This is the fragrance I wore on my wedding day. It opens with juicy red berries and orange blossom, then settles down to night blooming jasmine and vanilla, and dries to a spicy and papery sandalwood.

LizDee007

It’s feminine and spicy. The opening did not impress me but the dry down is cozy and creamy. I’m a beginner collector so I love Dior; however, this is not a fave. It is a beasty performer, I’ll give it that!

Sapienta

I usually dont like top notes.. But this is heaven. Tangerine and vanilla..
Heart seems too boring and heady.
Dry down is vanilla cake. This is very oldfashioned and confident scent. Not teenage vanilla, but grownup seductive vanilla. Echo of the nineties for sure

smellsgorgeous

I can’t believe cinnamon is not listed in the notes. This smells a lot like a warm, chai tea latte. It’s cinnamon, cream and a touch of spiciness and sandalwood. This scent is extremely comforting.

Koningin

The intial blast smells to me like a pen dipped in ink.
The smells gets considerably better and bij de 2 hour mark it becomes very warm and cozy. The more time goes by, the more the vanilla nd tonka beans become the star.
It has good longevity and average sillage.

Stampinator

Sexy, dry, dusty, slightly green (not fresh green more like a spicy green) vanilla sandalwood. Interesting, addictive, comforting, confident and nostalgic. True early 00s classic. Cooler weather perfect.

saponista

On me this is brioche toast with cinnamon and vanilla sugar (but more elegant). I was expecting floral notes and a bit more green from the mandarin leaf but they are so fleeting on my skin they might as well not be there. If I really focus I can smell dark Jasmine loitering in the background, but the stars are sandalwood, tonka, and cinnamon (which isn’t listed as a note?!).

I’ll wear this to work when I’m wanting spicy but Coco is too formal, Opium is too sexy, Obsession is too casual, Spicebomb is too exuberant, and Chergui is too weighty. It’s the fragrance worn by my “I may be soft-spoken and friendly but I’m also a powerful professional woman” persona.

emreeryilmaz

An herbal fragrance with a creamy and powdery sweetness in general.

Take the freshly cut grass and put it in a warm milk with a little vanilla. Throw a few blackberries on it and rub the mixture on a pine cone and smell it. A similar smell will come out.

The scent of cut grass and light vanilla is the most dominant tone. Blackberry and woody scent is not dominant. In general, it is an aromatic and floral fragrance. My tongue perceives this odor as a sour taste.

It stays on the fabric for up to 8 hours. It disappears on the skin within 3 hours. Projection and sillage are not bad.

Longevity: 7/10
Projection and Persistence: 6/10
Fragrance Quality: 7/10

Mari-Antoinette

This smells like spiced chai tea with milk.

This was my signature scent in my early 20’s. Empowering, sweet and lasting forever. Everywhere I went I got compliments. I did not need anything else because this was just it. Around 2013 I did not love it as much as before and just stopped wearing it. Later, I found out they reformulated and thought that must be the reason I fell out of love. When they did that again in 2014 I blind bought a big bottle hoping I would fall in love again but sadly it still just didn’t smell the same as I remembered. I bought many many many perfumes over the years looking for that one scent that would give me the same feeling as the Addict 2002 version was for me. Recently I got my hands on a sample of the original and I just couldn’t stop sniffing my wrist. After a long search I found a big bottle that was not super overpriced. It just came in yesterday and I sprayed immediately. I think the difference between the 2002 and the 2014 version, comparing them side to side, is mainly the drydown. In the original one it’s warm vanilla powerhouse and it lasts forever. After showering this morning I still could smell it! The current version is closer than the 2012 one but not that long lasting and a little less sweet. I will use the original one sparely for for special occasions where I want to feel empowered and comfy. It’s funny but from from now on think I will appreciate the 2014 edition more than I used to. It really is very close to the original one to me. And I’m happy about that because I don’t have to worry to run out anymore. Unless Dior decides to reformulate again of course.

Ninalovesclassy

Smells like a classy soapy aunt or woman after 40 with fresh laundry. Its very pleasant, but thats all it is. Its just very powdery on the dry down and also quite well known and boring at that point.

sarahshere1999

smells like oatmeal

ibralemmi

This smells sooooo much like one of Serge Lutens fregrances. I think its “la file de berlin” OR Chergui. I dont know. Is it just me?
Edit: It's Chergui

Chapi

A warm earl grey tea with hints of playdough. The vanilla is not sweet enough to be gourmand but it's at the edge of being so. Comforting and envelloping like a mother, not a sexy woman.

TheSweaterGirl

This has been my signature scent since 2009. Nothing comes close to its opulence and richness to me. Just a gorgeous, commanding and sexy fragrance. Luckily I still have another full 3.4oz bottle of this. I am scared to try the more recent reformations, although the current version still seems well received by those who’ve never smelled the original.

My recent branching out and exploring other fragrances is inspired by my desire to find some alternatives to enjoy so that I can save my last precious bottle of this divine vintage beauty for special occasions.

I live in Canada, and I would definitely wear this any day/any season. I am sure it is a lot for some people, but it is just everything to me, and I enjoy it’s powerful nature regardless of season.

june7rose

Does anyone know the last year this scent smelled like vanilla? maybe I can find an old bottle. It smelled fantastic on someone else, but all I detect are serious spices, especially cinnamon, and the night flower, that's it.

Aliera

I have the 2002 original formulation only - 3 100mL Eau de Parfum and 2 30mL actual Perfume bottles. Stored in the dark. This scent is and always will be velvet perfection.

clairesque

So I ordered a decant of this from ThePerfumedCourt thinking I was getting the newest version of Addict; however I'm pretty certain I actually got a decant of the original 2002 formula. This smells completely different from the Addict I sampled in a Sephora recently. The florals in this are just background players to a spicy vanilla sandalwood scent. This smells so similar to Musc Ravageur that I kind of think I got a decant of Musc Ravageur by mistake. It's very unisex/masculine compared to the new Addict.

StephBaby

I just received a vintage mini today. I had this perfume in 2002, when I was 18 and living in NYC and I had to try it again. It was my first signature scent, I can imagine I choose it because of the iridescent box. Smelling it again today brought me directly back to that time.
I love this perfume, and although I’m biased because of the memories attached, I honestly think it’s Dior's best scent. It’s vanilla, it’s green, it’s floral, it’s woody, but it’s blended so well that none of the accords overshadow any of the others. They all mix together to bring out the best in each other.
It is a strong perfume, and I get why some people don’t like that.
I haven’t smelled the new formulation, I’m not getting cinnamon at all in the old one.
Edit: I went to bed in this because I was enjoying it so much during the day. Not a pleasant fragrance to wake up to.

brokesta911

Dior Addict (2002) - floral vanilla - #thierrywasser and #christiandussoulier starts the perfume with Blackberries and crushed leaves and stems. This transitions to a combination of Vanilla, Tonka bean and white flowers, mainly Jasmine and Orange blossom. Fragrance exudes this dark and mysterious appeal with a refined gourmand structure. Base dries down to Vanilla, Tonka bean, Sandalwood and White musks.

inkhorus

This is advertised as a femminine fragrance but to be completely fair I see this as unisex? But I'm such a sucker for amber/vanilla fragrances, so I may be biased. Strong mandarin leaf in the opening, then your face is projected straight into a jasmine bush. Drydown settles into tonka bean vanilla. Unaware of previous formulations, this is a must try for anyone who wants a serious, sophisticated yet not "grandma's house" fragrance.

tinkerbell2614

I think this is the sexiest perfume I have ever smelled. I will say however, that the older bottles smell different than the new ones and around 2008 this perfume was at its peak. I mostly smell the jasmine, orange blossoms, tonka, and vanilla. My husband also really likes this scent. I live in the desert, and this perfume is too strong to wear in extreme heat or day; I think this is definitely a night time fragrance and really great on cold nights.

AlexandriaCleopatra

I have always loved this perfume, the original that is. I have very little left of my original formulation but have found a really good dupe made by Carlotta. Great for everyday and although there are subtle differences, to the casual nose, barely discernable.

The blast of white floral to begin with settles to a heavy vanilla based dry down on me, which I find comforting and warm. I love vanilla based Perfumes though but I know they are not to everyone's taste.

Such a shame it has been reformulated and, not for the better as far as I am concerned. I am fortunate that I bought a very large bottle just prior to reformulation and have kept it for going out. Nearly done now. ☹️.

Definately an 80s scent. Big, bold and sexy. Lol.

chyan

Omg. I had this in my early 20s right when it first came out. I totally forgot about it until I saw the bottle and immediately every aspect of the olfactory memory came back. I do not know what happened to my bottle or now I acquired it. I think my boyfriend may have given it to me, and I may have finished it, but something tells me that I gave it away. I definitely remember getting “tired” of it and not wanting to wear it anymore. At the time I couldn’t really afford perfume, so I’d get mostly dupes and if I had an authentic bottle of something I would naively run through it quickly, and move on to the next, completely unaware that perhaps the scent would one day be unavailable due to a reformulation, or that my tastes would possibly change over time.

Indeed, as the old memories of this extremely distinctive scent float by, I am saddened that it has been reformulated and, frankly, I am afraid that it is no longer what I remember, which is nothing even close to old-lady ( I was really shocked to read the reviews of people who felt this way) In fact, I recall it being so feminine and sexy and so unique, that I felt a little uncomfortable wearing it during the day or in casual settings. To me as a 20 something, it seemed mature, sensual, almost sex-kittenish; at a time when I thought I was all of those things, but looking back, it’s nearly laughable.

I cannot believe I am at the point where something I wore in my 20s is being called “vintage,” kind of like 90s clothing is to my 15 year old daughter who wears it like it’s an interesting accessory today.

I may come back here after I get the courage to pick up another bottle.

melusina1982

Cold vanilla with warm white florals. Soapy clean and cosy and smooth, raw and super elegant at the same time. Splendid. Think about a little boozy L'instant.
Works its best in cold winters but you can absolutely rock it on a summer night, the heat makes the florals bloom.
It is strong and a little goes a long way.
If you have the chance to snatch a bottle, do it!

Konga5000

I cracked open my "vintage" today. Built-in sprayer version. SO THICK and warm . So comforting . I cannot believe what they did to this and I'm reading reviews on here of "I like the cinnamon in this" . WHAT ? ! LOL. No cinnamon in my vintage . Crazy that Dior would just destroy one of their creations to save money and bow under the barbaric IFRA restrictions . The new version smells like Vanilla Fields room spray . Seek out an old vintage bottle -- even if expensive - it's worth it. I am still waiting for one of the big clone companies to come up with a copy of the vintage bottles . That would be nice.

Opium Bleu ★★★★★

The more I get into vintage Dior fragrances the more I have to face the reality that it’s become my favourite house of all time. Poison is a legend, Diorella is an enigma, Fahrenheit is an avant-garde monument, Dolce Vita is happiness bottled and Dune is an undisputed masterpiece of no equal. Now Addict, in closer inspection, is an odd beast from Dior. The genius of Dune was removing all the heavy curtains from Must de Cartier's green amber and enveloping the central structure in a mysterious oceanic haze. What Addict then did was take their very own Dune and add back in the heavy curtains but this time, instead of Must’s dark brown, in deep blue velvet. Looking at notes Addict should promise a warm and cozy vanilla embrace akin to Hypnotic Poison from couple years earlier, yet on skin a surprising bone-dry and brisk incense chypre reveals itself in full glory – almost a spiritual successor to Opium in it’s warm-cool duality and sexually available take-no-prisoners sillage. Let's namedrop one more: What makes Addict so interesting is the raspy growl of the sandalwood incense that sharpens the velvety vanilla, which is an effect well exemplified in another classic, namely, LouLou! Perhaps Addict is not as complex as Opium, Dune, Must or even LouLou and more on the synthetic side, yet its nuclear longevity and unforgettable signature accord make it a technical masterpiece. If you ask me, this would be stunning on a man and even more, if one truly wants to stand out, a dab of Addict will punch its way through the air with no competition.

Unlike other Dior releases, Addict wasn’t revolutionary in introducing novel structures or ideas, but it is a successful hybrid of classics from the past and I absolutely admire it. Not sure if Dior's parfums section had anything to do with their fashion department at the time, but given that Galliano's more is more artistic direction was all over Dior in early 00's, the nature of Addict does start to make some sense. What comes to reformulations my bottle is a 2004 vintage and having sampled the current 2014 version I can conclude it isn’t nearly as disastrous as some claim. In fact it's very good and clearly a labour of love. The original is much spicier, woodier and resinously heavy on cinnamon and nutmeg, closer to the spirit of Opium, whereas the 2014 formulation is more bourbon vanillic with white florals on the front respecting the contemporary gourmand trends. The 2014 reformulation is also noticeably drier, almost chalky, and surprisingly brinds to mind the chalky jasmine in Caron's 3eme Homme! Sillage and longevity are through the roof, but as always, vintage reigns supreme. Long live the cult of Addict!

This masterpiece of perfume it used to be my signatures in my early 20s- about 10-15 years ago. For a while I stopped to use it because I was a bit bored of it, but I purchased it recently again and I can say I love it!! It smells so amazing, like a spicy delicious bomb. I don t find it at all smelling like an "old lady perfume" like some state before. And anyway, for me a perfume has no age. You need just to like it. It gives me a lot of spicy cinnamon scent, but also a delicious vanilla. If you are into sweet perfumes you will love it, but it is not the kind of sweet like candies or sugar, it is more like spicy sweet that you bake for Christmas, like cookies or pies containing cinnamon and vanilla. Be aware not too spray too much because it will be really too much. I really spray this one 2-3 times only.
I think it is more suitable for cold days than for hot summer days, and surely not for the beach🙂
It is definetely a very feminine perfume- I detest the slighest unisex scent in perfumes!! I m so happy they didn t ruin this feminine scent with a green scent, that puts me off.

AleshaA

OMG I just received my vintage bottle of 50ml and omg I first bought this when it was launched in 2002 and it was everything I wanted a scent to smell like. Receiving this after decades is such a huge gift to myself I have the 2012 version as well but let me tell you it doesn’t even compare to the vast deep spicy oriental take on this one, a blast from the past and I’m shook with the memories and great times enjoyed with this. I can’t understand why they took it away, most expensive and exclusive scent I have ever smelled I will forever cherish this I love you Dior for creating something so beautiful my most favourite fragrance house best on this planet

So many new scents don’t last I don’t know if the way they are making new perfumes are being made in a new way that are more fleeting some that remind me of this is Amber Nuite and Oud Vendome it has that velvet green Amber vanilla I see a lot of people calling it old lady but so many new perfumes like the ones mentioned above are so sensual and smooth seductive scents I think this is a frown womens acent one who’s not into fruity sweet scents this scent last is not harsh but Amber vanilla perfection

lordbig

I usually hate powdery perfumes but this is something different. It is not baby powder here, but prickly, dusty, papery. It is not soft but has a distinct texture.

The overall scent transports me to the Sonoran desert, mostly due to the dusty night blooming cereus and woods. Think deserts are always arid and sparse? Not this lushly forested one.
Monster performance, monster longevity and sillage. Dense, hot and unrelenting like the air before a summer storm.

Back to my childhood in Tucson, where the cactus flower blooms. The family has gathered the lawn chairs in the garage with front row seats to the night's monsoon. The air is hot and humid and prickles with electricity and earthy creosote to fortell the oncoming storm. Cicadas buzz loudly from the sappy mesquite trees, hanging thick with nutty scented bean pods. The luscious, spicy, dusty blooms of the cactus flowers, the sun baked sand and bleached wood hang thick in the air.

scentobsessed01

Nice, complex, grown vanilla scent. A staple. Layers wonderdfully

Groovymarlin

I guess this was reformulated at some point. Perhaps people are confusing this, the 2002 original, with the Eau de Parfum that was released in 2012? I have a bottle from 2002 and it is definitely spicy, with the barest hint of vanilla. It smells much more like sandalwood and the woody spicy notes that are listed. The bottle I have is labeled DIOR ADDICT EAU DE PARFUM MADE IN FRANCE. It's the short blue bottle with gold trim. I remember vividly buying it the year it was released - it was the most I'd spent on perfume up to that point! Anyway, it still smells amazing and I love it. It's so different from any other scent in my collection.

Konga5000

What the heck? Why do all these reviews say "spicy" ? This is not (was not) intended as a spicy perfume . It WAS a huge cloud bomb of edible soft vanilla that floated you around the room -- BIG -- PUFFY vanilla . Imagine sleeping inside a big vanilla powder puff shaped bed. Now I hear "cinnamon & spice" ? I smelled the NEW Addict at Ulta beauty . It smelled like Coty Vanilla Fields now . In a cheap way . Spices ?

Katv2003

I love this fragrance so much!! It smells very mature and very boss! It is definetly not a scent for everyone since it is very strong and unique but personally, I love it a lot!

WGG

My optician wears this (I asked). Mellow, floral vanilla with teenniest wafts of amber for extra interest. Put it this way, I enjoyed getting my eyes tested. I saw the prices, pretty punchy, but this is very good so worth paying for.

GiorgieA

Such a disappointing blind buy for me. Couldn't smell the vanilla at all! It's too floral, no sweetness. Overpowering and headache inducing. :(

Arlen6

Heavenly scent with incredible sharp spicy and woody smell with floral concoction in it. Many reviews though say its vanilla but, on my skin, it was more of floral one. This is a feminine one for nights and winters mainly with the enormous silage and eternal longevity. This is so addictive that truly makes me feel free and energized. Opening notes are more of the mulberry flower with mandarin leaves which then settles into orange flower, queen flower and Bulgarian rose. Dry down is more of sandalwood, bourbon vanilla and tonka bean. Wearing this makes me compliment getter for the day. This beauty is always on my shelf and I even have backup of this too. Masterpiece! Truly a gem!

طارق المنصوري

ADDICT ..... the sexiest of Dior perfumes. A feminine that sweats sensuality and sex, the bodies sweat, mingle with notes of orange blossom and sambac jasmine on a bed of powerfully hot vanilla.
A magnificent creation by Thierry Wasser, reworked by Demachy which made it a little more cutesy

EimileGeorge

Totally justified to its name. Dior addict is an addiction once you use it. This is perfume for winter and night use for women. Enormous and strong fragrance that last longer encouraging one to straight and bold actions making one feel energetic and free from everything! Top notes include mandarin leaves along with mulberry flower, middle notes have orange flower, Bulgarian rose and queen flower while base is made up with sandalwood, Bourbon vanilla and Tonka bean. I get ample compliments wearing this! It’s one perfume that’s always on my shelf, absolute winner!

sodalite

Everyone seems to have something different to say about this one. Personally, it reminds me of a decadent lemon-vanilla cake, similar to Tocca Collette or even Byredo G-Water, but far richer. And yes, I know lemon isn’t listed as a note, but that’s just what it smells like to me. In my opinion, white florals can be very hit or miss, but in this they are intoxicating. Altogether, I think this is a deliciously creamy fragrance that fans of vanilla and white florals will enjoy. My only reservation is that the slight powdery note gives it a bit of a mature edge that I don’t particularly love on myself right now, but could see myself enjoying a few years down the road. That being said, this is far from “old-ladyish”, so don’t worry about smelling like a granny. Overall, I think Dior Addict is a good fragrance and I would recommend it, even if it doesn’t suit my own personal preferences at the moment.

scnofthcrime

I'm testing the current iteration of this scent. Although this has been out for nearly 20 years I don't think I ever really tried to smell this one. I decided to test it today and I love it, but that being said I don't think this will appeal to all and it's not a safe blind buy. As soon as I smelled this I realized I definitely smelled this on goth high schoolers and alternative college girls in the early 2000s and this scent made me deeply nostalgic for early 2000s goth fashion. I feel like I should be in one of those industrial alternative clubs circa 2003 when I wear this (just a feeling, I was too young to go to clubs in 2003).

On me this is is deep and dark woods, not too sweet. a lot of sandalwood. I do get a slight root beer/cola vibe from it. There's a slight powderiness to this which would usually be a turn off for me, but it's subtle. I detect white florals, but the kind of flowers that would be on a casket. Not a bright, cheery bouquet in a vase or anything still growing in the earth. I would say this is a sandalwood scent primarily on me, not a vanilla scent. By 2021 standards this fragrance would not be considered "youthful" but it's definitely what the youth were wearing 19 years ago.

I love this and to me it's definitely of it's time in the best way possible. As soon as I got home I felt like I needed to watch Buffy while sniffing this. It just fits.

LilyRose1

After hearing all of the great reviews of this one and since I really love vanilla scents I was very excited to get this. When I first sprayed it I got a little bit disappointed. It is a vanilla scent for sure but it has to me a dry flowery feel to it. I think it’s the white flower combination in it that I do not like, it’s a bit sharp when I wear it. I tried to love this and used it so many times but never felt it worked for me so I ended up giving it to my best friend and she loves it so much. This smells incredibly good on her. I almost want it back in hopes it would work as well on me but I know it’s hopeless haha. Even though I don’t like it on me it’s a very pretty scent. This is most definitely too much for summertime but is lovely in the autumn/winter time. If you like white flowers, vanilla and something simple and elegant then this is for you.

joy3141

My bottle doesn't have a band on it - just a gold knob on top to lock it, and the name sideways at the top. This version is very Christmas-ey to me. So much cinnamon! Smells like a Christmas drink from Starbucks. Not my favorite. Maybe I'll try a different version.

Kairavu

Night blooming Cereus. That makes all the beautiful difference. Blended very well with the bitterness of Orange (Mandarin, okay...)
leaf and the pungency of its flower.
Sandalwood merely present , Vanilla barely perceptible, Tonka Bean at its blandest - so much for the base notes but one need not base upon them, it's all in the middle - to me. Yeah, a whiff of Jasmine now and then tries to smoothen the perfume, not that it needs to be. First class as it is.
I won't reach for it frequently but when I do, I am happy. Quite. A fragrance worth knowing, without doubt.

hsiangchi.huang

Reminds me of Tom Ford Noire Pour Femme, which I used to own. I get 55% tonka beans + 30% vanilla + 15% sandalwood. It's well composed and not overly sweet, which is rare among the mass appealing designer fragrances. This is a more grown-up vanilla, not for little girls.

ceeceelee

I'm not sure where to leave this review, this page seems to be the most populated. I received this bottle from the Dior website about a month ago, so I have the newest formulation. I like it, bordering on a strong like. On me it's a mandarin leaf scented vanilla marshmallow. My nose doesn't perceive any jasmine, or any floral really, but I definitely pick up that mandarin leaf. The marshmallow effect may be from the sandalwood creaminess. I can't wait to wear in colder weather. I wouldn't say this is a safe blind buy bc it's basically a green vanilla, which may put some vanilla lovers off.

Charrise

This has been my signature fragrance since 2002. It NEVER fails me. I get a billion compliments and people go nuts over it, especially men. It's so intoxicating on me I have to be careful when wearing it because I get unwanted attention. I've had men tell their wives to find out what I'm wearing and buy it.

Controlledbyscent31

When I want to feel put together on a cold autumn/ winter day this is what i reach for. Comes alive in the colder days, i would never wear this in hot weather or spring as its just too spicy.

This is a darker juice for darker weather to lift your spirits on a grey day, As soon as I spray this I think of candles, mulled wine & the fire being lit, this is my Christmas day scent , But this perfume I also think about a dark winters date night out with a lover and for when you want to feel sexy and confident.
It's versatile I would even wear it to a ball with a sexy bold dark dress this is a statement scent, To me this is Diors version of alien (Not in the sense that they smell anything alike as they dont) but the way alien divides people you either love or hate this, this is a bold fragrance for a certain personality this is not like anything else most people wear like versace bright crystal or dior addict 2 for instance. I would not blind buy this.
I will always own a bottle in my collection.

GwenH

Alright.

I find this to be a super sexy fragrance but not in a tacky kind of way. There is a little sophistication here amping it up from just a good night out to a great morning as someone, as delicious as you smell, is making you breakfast.

Its a tonka, vanilla, white floral bomb. The sandalwood deepens it and pulls this fragrance down from a mere pretty scent to something much naughtier. I don't get much of the blackberry or the rose. I think it also smells quite balsamic?
In my opinion, its very seductive. At least it seduced me.

That being said. This is a VERY polarizing perfume in my experience, for both men and women. When I first tried this perfume in Saphora years ago... I hated it. I didn't get it. To my underdeveloped nose I thought fruity florals were sexy and anything else fell short. Well my nostrils have done a little growing since those newbie days of sniffing (not literally, that would be terrifying) so when I smelt it again four years later it suddenly hit me and I kid you not, I immediately made a low guttural growl like a weirdo that sounded like "Mmmmmmgggguuah...." and got quite a few stares as I practically caressed the bottle.

But... Dior Addict has yet to win over my husband in the same way. I'll 'sneak it on' every now and then and in moments he'll ask what I'm wearing and says that its 'nice' or 'okay' but he goes gaga dog drool when I wear Lancome's La Nuit Tresor and in a much more ...visceral way.

So maybe don't blind buy Dior Addict. And if you're wearing it for someone else as much as you're wearing it for yourself, maybe ask them their opinion while you're wearing a sample!

Myriam asel

An incredible master piece, there is no other perfume like it. I am talking about the original formulation.
It's well blended, I can't smell each note seperately, it is a sharp spicy woody perfume(I don't get the vanilla), it is heavenly. It is a femme fatale kinda of perfume. I can go on raging about it for hours. The name "addict" does it justice.

surfworld1

Recently tested this perfume in store and the tester had the gold trim. Loved it so I bought a bottle. Got it home and opened it to find a silver trimmed bottle. Sprayed it to test and it was TOTALLY different than what I tested in the store. The gold trim bottled has more vanilla which I LOVED the silver trimmer bottom was more floral. Returned it and ordered another bottle and waiting for it to come in. Also the gold trimmer does not have a cap, you just push the button on top to spritz. The silver trimmed bottle you have to remove the cap to spray. For those wanting more vanilla notes, look for the gold trimmed bottle with no cap 😊

IsSheNotFragrant

Sadly this is now a far cry from its original incarnation which was stunning. To my nose it now resembles a powdery floral concoction rather than the edgy floriental it was back in the day when it had more in common with Nu by YSL. The EDT is preferable for me as it is at least much fresher....

dyslexis92

Was hoping for more vanilla. Just floral on me, unfortunately.

LMBelvi

Way too many flowers for me. I’m out.

Beautiful spices, cinnamon, caraway, sadly I don't smell a drop of vanilla.

Aromaniacy

Another gem by Dior. This is a perfume for winter and autumn nights, I can smell all the base notes with a hint of florals. On my skin I can't smell it a lot for some reason, but others can. On my clothes it doesn't go away until I wash them. I always get compliments wearing this. Definately for ages 25+. I love it.

jeanharlow

There's something in this which makes me nauseated even though on paper, it sounded like it would be right up my alley. I love white florals, I love cinnamon and spice, I love tonka and orange blossom. But in this, I get full on snickerdoodle cookie and jasmine with chemical play-do vanilla. If this sounds amazing to you, well it did to me too until I wore it myself. Too sweet, too chemical, too food-like... Its too much! There is nothing which screams glamorous or sophisticated about this scent in my opinion. It is very similar to Angels Share, like another person commented, which I also don't like but which is far more nuanced than this. No hate to those who can rock this of course, its just not for me.

RainbowGirl

Doing a side by side comparison with Bvlgari Splendida Tubereuse Mystique, although I am not sure why. These are very different fragrances.

Dior Addict has an initial burst of green, that I just love. However, this quickly settles to a vanilla tonka bean, with white florals. The tonka does that trick where it almost smells like tobacco, and the vanilla is not a sweet vanilla. It smells like actual vanilla pods, and is very "perfumy." A nice floral vanilla tobacco fragrance.

The Bvlgari Splendida Tubereuse Mystique is a strong sweet tuberose. Not bubblegum like Mancera Velvet Vanilla, but just as sweet. The black currant smells like a sweet red wine, so instead of a bubblegum tuberose, this is a sweet red wine tuberose. It gets sweeter the longer it sits on my skin.

These are very different to my nose, and I am glad I own both. Excellent fragrances.

brandybasisty

After trying the 2012 and 2014 formulations (which still have the Addict DNA but with a coarser, greener feel), I was excited to get a decant of the older formulation! Opening is still green and sharp, but luxurious with the tonka bean and vanilla already in a supporting role- somehow bringing to mind sweet lilies and creamy leather! After about 30 minutes on my skin, the fragrance becomes even creamier as white florals in the heart fully emerge, and the base notes shimmer with increasing intensity. I totally get a cinnamon vibe here too, Latetothescene (would love to know where that's coming from)! The green opening begins to blend seamlessly into the heart, boosting the freshness of the orange blossom, which is a nice counterbalance to the sweet density of the fragrance. Around the hour mark, Addict starts to round out on me. The vanilla is really shining now, and the flowers smell like they're dipped in cinnamon and sugar. But the fragrance somehow stays balanced- the sandalwood keeps Addict grounded, so that the sweetness is more like incense instead of a gourmand. If you're a fan of the 90's Dior offerings, I would urge you to track this version down- it's truly wonderful!
2023 Update- I ended up preferring the 2012 formulation because of its amped up vanilla and less bitey opening. The 2002 version is still has the most interesting development, but the 2012 doesn't make me work as hard for the the yummy drydown 😋

fanntonyoscar

Smells like another “I just got out of the shower” scent. This is so floral it’s sickening on me. I understand that’s what sells, but it’s not for me.

Pixiedust2

This is predominantly Jasmine on my skin. Jasmine with a touch of orange blossom and some vanilla lending sweetness. I wouldn't label this a vanilla perfume, at least not on me, and that was the whole reason I bought a sample. It's very pretty, smells young and happy. I could easily wear this during the summer. I'm not smelling the spices or sandalwood, I guess that's why I'm not getting the cold, winter vibes so many here are. It's not mind blowing and it's more floral than I'm comfortable wearing, but it's still a pretty scent and well blended. My only real complaint is I wish I was getting more vanilla!

stephdray

Wow, this is a quality perfume and exactly what I hope for in terms of longevity and sillage. The only drawback is that it reads masculine on me--the sandalwood really comes out strong. I like it much better than Guerlain's Samsara as far as sandalwoods go, but I think I will give the rest of my sample to my husband to wear. Or maybe I will return to try it again in winter. It's really lovely and distinctive.

Also, my nose is convinced there's cinnamon in this.

Lanegavigan

My aunt gave me some perfume samples and I saw this. Sprayed some on my wrist, didn't mind the liquid browning...it was love at first sniff 😭
This was a sample of the OG fragrance...the scent is so nostalgic like I've smelled it on many women before. Such a sensual fragrance. One day I will find a full 2002 original, but for now I cling on to the last drops of my sample :,(

rockerchick

Snickerdoodles in an orange grove.

It's unique, sweet, green, delicious.

I can't get over the image of sitting under an orange tree, covered in small oranges and fresh blooms, snacking on a freshly baked snickerdoodles cookie.

Lasts for ages on paper and fabric, less so on skin.

BOBHAIRCUT

I wear this with a touch of YSL Opium, sometimes you have to go there.

gigiok

It's a really nice, warm but also bright and spicy vanilla scent. I love vanilla and this is really nice. But there is something in it which makes it an old ladys scent. Nothing against old ladies but I dont see myself wearing this. Maybe it is because it is a popular fragrance, fragrances I have smelled often give me this feeling.

olfactorydarling

I like this a lot - somehow I get a snickerdoodle/gingersnap + a little orange... but in a very sexy sophisticated way.

hollymichaelm

This is incredibly sexy... but it is winter only (even for me, who loves rich perfumes all year round). In summer this perfume makes me feel sick and I simply
Can’t understand or appreciate it, but in winter this is the most sultry, vanilla, sandalwood, powdery vixen. This makes me think of a very glamorous woman wearing a velvet dress the same colour of the bottle and a Smokey eye. Delectable.

who.am.i.you

Wow -- what else could I even add about this fragrance that hasn't already been said? It's a narcotic-boozy vanilla with green notes & a woodiness. I can't speak to the newer version as I haven't tried it, but this version smells thick, and could get suffocating. Projects very well with very little sprays. The liquid I have is DARK, so careful around light clothing, but if you spray on clothes (I sprayed on my black top), it lasts even longer than on skin. This is one of my favorites and makes me feel confident and addictive :) lol. I agree with the person below who says this is easily unisex, yet it makes me feel very feminine when I wear it. Maybe it's just that confidence (and maybe men would feel extra manly wearing it). Smells great all year round as I don't designate specific types of fragrances per season, but this is generally likely considered an autumn/winter fragrance!

kristamb

I was excited to try this one, but ended up not loving it. It is very green at first application, and then for me, dries down to a very unisex scent. I feel like I am getting base notes of men's cologne (maybe it's the green/aromatic/sandalwood notes?). I would describe the vanilla in this as dry and slightly dusty. One day I applied this and shortly after, my 3-year old daughter said, "Eww! What's that smell?!" Ha! Which is never a good sign....Overall, this isn't a terrible fragrance, but it's not for me.

PoisonAfterDark

I purchased a sample so I'm not sure what formulation it is. Super floral in the beginning. It's a very pretty scent. I don't find it mature or alluring at all though like most find here. I smell the spice, vanilla, whatever it is, but it's still too clean for me. The dry down was a bit better with more warmth but the floral was still there.

This perfume was just an odd experience in general. I liked it, then sometimes when I smelled it, I didn't. Overall it's okay to me, it's not dark or mystical enough for my taste but it's still a pretty perfume.

pamplemousse2

Immediately after spraying I got what smelled like a spiced vanilla, followed by a white floral bouquet that I could smell within elbow's length and a hint of powderiness. It's a lot greener than I expected, but with a slight vanilla undertone. I feel like I'm smelling crushed leaves a bit.

5 minutes later and a vanilla scent comes out that smells again, a bit spiced, and perhaps like rum a bit as well.

In 10 minutes there starts to be a bit more sandalwood that is almost cinnamon-y (if there isn't cinnamon in here itself), and again, vanilla and white floral. Don't chastise me, but I don't think I like this that much. It smells a bit too planty and spicy for me and I'm not sure if I like the combination that much. The vanilla is very rich and thick and deep, so I do appreciate that. I really don't know if I would call this 'sexy' at all though. However it is definitely a bit more mature.

I agree with previous reviewers that it's almost like a vanilla Cinnabon scent. I was never a fan really of cinnamon rolls because I found the cinnamon a bit irritating, so that might play into why I don't like it as much as well. I've heard this mentioned as spiced rice pudding too and can also see that. Chai tea, too.

30 minutes later and it's no longer as planty. It's a very warm scent with the spicy vanilla taking over, it's quite cozy as well. Definitely could see this in the winter. I could also see this as slightly more 'sexy' now, but again, not my type and the spice being a bit irritating to me. I smell it strongly within 4" of my skin as well now.

I'll see how long this lasts.

3 hours later and wow, I'm impressed. It's still projecting like how other fragrances would for only like one hour, and many would have tapered off by this point. It's still spicy vanilla, but a bit more on the vanilla side now, and projection and sillage still going strong. So I will give this credit in that department.

5 hours later and it's no longer projecting as much and more a soft vanilla skin scent, but it's still detectable and has some sillage. The vanilla reminds me a lot of the drydown in Hypnotic Poison EDT and/or Poison Girl EDP.

8 hours later and it's a faint almost powdery vanilla scent on my skin I need my nose to my arm to smell.

lzak

Don’t like this fragrance. Was a blind buy. It smells like black licorice on me at first and the STRONG white floral mixed with a lot of spice.
Really tried to like it, but it pulls very masculine on me and generally unpleasant. Too bad because I usually like strong fragrances.

katheryne_art

It was disgusting for me when I tried it for the first time, but the next time I tried it I couldn't believe it's the same perfume. It did change a lot for me. Even though it's a very green Vanilla, I really like it! I didn't expect to like this combination, but it gets very addictive. However, this is definitely more of a night time scent. You could wear it during the day too as it's not dark to me, but it will be just a little bit too strong for the day. Overall, I am pretty impressed and I am very picky about perfumes ))

cats_eye

This is one fragrance that's better in its current formulation. It was too cloying when it was first released imo. It's greener and more nuanced nowadays. Very classy vanilla/green scent with a nice jasmine note.

LaContessina

Back in time, in 2003-2005 I had gone through 2 bottles of Addict.
The first one was offered to me as a present and I immediately fell for it.
The second bottle I bought of the EDP got me a bit tired of; it is (was) a very bold fragrance with a huge sillage and I would not recommend it for office wear. The bottles at the time were shorter and chunkier, with gold lettering and a gold button on top.

Dior Addict starts with a whiff of fresh mandarin and then goes onto intense orange blossom & jasmine.
It is a bold, in your face fragrance... yet... it is addictive (as the name tells), a lovely mixture of flowers, spices on an amber/vanilla/sandalwood base.
Almost everyone says it's a super big vanilla frag, I would say it is a floral spice vanilla.
It was an original concoction by John Galliano - yes, his style, entirely! - very original yet unique at the time, now it has so many dupes.

Then I forgot it for some reason only to rediscover it in 2019.
It has been reformulated but still it's very similar to the original, and i enjoy wearing it, indeed it's perhaps even more wearable as it's not that sillage monster anymore.
I would not recommend it for office wear.
But makes you feel unique and feminine on a night out or for a posh shopping afternoon.
A true compliment getter.
A must try, for its uniqueness.

Lorax

This is a boozy, warm, woody/spicy/floral vanilla masterpiece. It has so much depth and warmth with the woods and spices that it gets away with being far sweeter than my usual preferences. Its deserving of its reputation as a classic, and the 2012 and 2014 formulas really should be considered flankers, not new versions. It smells like nothing else- so unique, and yet so solidly recognizable and lasts forever. Weirdly, except for Midnight Poison, I dislike ALL the "people who like this also like" scents, so its really worth trying without pigeonholing it with other sweet, strong popular scents.
I'm fairly certain that some of the reviews here are for the SEPARATELY LISTED 2012 and 2014 versions....FWIW!

ceeceelee

This is such a beautiful classic. It seems to me that Good Girl has tried to fill the space that Addict used occupy; The BIG Vanilla. I still like Addict more, though I do have GG in my collection. That hint of spice is what does it for me.

Atomikbomb_

Addict to my nose, is quite a warm, sensual, but understandable fragrance. It isn't swoon-worthy to me, nor is it insane if undersprayed or applied moderately. I actually do not feel as if this pushes boundaries now in today's climate, but it could've been that way in it's early years (nearly 2 whole dang decades ago). I don't really feel as if it's overtly sexy, but I don't profess to understand the mind of a heterosexual male and their preferences, and won't argue with it. *I* don't feel any type of way in this, merely comfortable and warm. It's a cozy fragrance (this is very, very similar to my thoughts on Armani Code Pour Femme...and they have an extremely similar personality).

The tonka, sandalwood and vanilla are a familiar touch, but since this is older than much on the market, I believe it should be credited to spawning inspiration for others of the same vein. It's rare for me to dislike these types of fragrances, but I'd be lying if I wasn't honest about expecting more from the VERY hyped and goddess-status Addict. I am happy with a large decant here, but won't purchase a bottle, it doesn't move me.

I get no blackberry or fruit at all, sadly. What I do nearly smell and would guess was included, is a dash of tobacco.

zestybloom

During the pandemic I have become crazed by perfume I went from 4 bottles to at least 60 or more, my nose has started to crave all different scents and I just discovered this one when I was younger this scent was too heavy now I know who made it and he has made so many of Guerlains scents I had to smell it and I love it, it reminds me of Angel Shares from killian the cinnamon spice, this one is soft perfection yet strong and sexy, blended perfect nothing sharp or cloying it’s not a young girls scent but it’s so gorgeous i see someone smelling your skin and not wanting to leave it’s very sexy

chelseamurdock

I also tried hard to like this one and had such high expectations, but it smells like straight up gingerbread cookies on my skin. I was hoping for a creamy, seductive vanilla with some elegant white florals, but instead I am the gingerbread woman. I don’t dislike it, but it’s not “me” and didn’t meet my expectations. So sad!

mldaleali28

I tried so hard to like this, the opening is great, the dry down is too sweet, all I can feel is...jam. I hate fruits in perfumes and usually when a good perfume has a fruity note in it, all I can smell is the damn fruit that covers everything else. Oh, well.

emeraldwaters

This is cute! Not enough for me to purchase a bottle, though. It smells like chai tea to me, slightly sweet and spicy. I’d probably love to smell this on someone else.

RubyWooHoo

When I wear this, I probably leave people muttering to each other in my wake: "That woman uses far too much perfume." I don't care. In my opinion, Addict is meant to be worn in big doses and paired with sky-high heels and a trowelful of makeup. Definitely not an inoffensive office scent, and that's half its charm. It's sexy, boozy vanilla at its best, with the warm woodiness keeping everything from getting too sweet. It smells almost masculine on me, but no other fragrance makes me feel as sexy or feminine.

Waldina80

Originally I bought the 2014 version from eBay for $35 US/$ back in autumn 2017. I wasn’t thrilled by it, but it was nice enough. White florals & a very little vanilla on the base. How different could 2002 be? Night and day, honestly.

Just last week I tracked down a 2002 original, and paid dearly for it. D-E-A-R-L-Y.

Initially, upon unpacking, the bottle was so different looking than 2014, I was sure I’d been made a fool of, and sent a cheap fake. I was full of doubts. Did I waste my money? Shorter, fatter, wider, no gold writing on the bottle... until I realized the glass was of exquisite quality, and the on/off toggle lid oozed class, the juice inside was a VERY deep brown/red, whereas 2014 isn’t nearly as dark.

Out of the 100+ perfumes I have, I’m extremely intoxicated by 2002. It really has made an ADDICT out of me. 19 years on, it’s not easy to find the vintage bottle. Wondering if I should hunt down a back-up.

On me, it’s a heavy, boozy, vanillic experience. Huge longevity, silage, and overall performance.

trixiesalamander

Ordered a vintage decant, It’s ok, but definitely not the stunning vanilla beauty that’s been described. VERY floral on me, but my skin tends to pick up flowers more than anything else.

kristylynn

Beautiful fragrance, but definitely feel out of place when wearing it. Maybe if I was 20 years older.

kandykiller

I think this is more of an upper class top notch sexy perfume...even though its very affordable& easy to get. It is a lovely scent, demands respect, like im a woman who smells like rice pudding in a gold pudding kinda way,hahaha...idk why or how the makers were able to pull that off but they did, hehe! Seriously its classy sexy not grab me ,kiss me,F--- me, sexxxy, lasts ok,not bad. Overall its more of something id wear when im feeling confident yet lovely& i know im the shi kinda day....and thats never, because thats not my style, still a great perfume, just not tomboy, sporty& fiesty enough, goofy crazy like me....but i still respect Mrs.Addict, well DONE♡

AntonioM

I blind bought a vintage 75ml original formulation bottle with about 10ml of juice left in a thrift shop today. I tried it and instantly loved it. It's right up my alley. It's a dark vanilla with woody ambery depths. I'm very curious of the current formulation.

Sjess

I had the original back in 2002, I was in my early twenties and this fragrance, together with the original Michael Kors, were my signature scents. This was such a showstopper, I had so many people stopping me in the street to ask what I was wearing! But after finishing the big bottle I never repurchased because I moved on to other fragrances. Really regret that now 😕. Sillage and longevity were enormous and eternal, one spray was enough, but I always used at least two back then 😂. Reading and writing about this really made me nostalgic so I've ordered 30ml of the current version, curious if that brings back some memories 😊

perfumesniffer

molten lava explosion of spiky vanilla jasmine.

midway through makes me think of taffy. sweet chewy fruity jasmine taffy with a dash of balsam.

like guerlainade on steroids with beast mode longevity.

one of THE BEST designer fragrances of all time.

chewy, trashy, Wasserade. love it so much.

addict is abstract. it’s synthetic and you don’t smell anything naturally occurring or realistic. it’s a human made thing. it exists in its own scent realm. addict is gorgeous. please protect addict.

poptwinkles

I didn’t care for the opening notes. This perfume took me on a journey! Strong orange notes to white floral to a honey scent the following day (insane staying power!). My only problem is, I’m not a fan of white floral (my moms favorite bathroom sprays) or spicy scents (reminds me of Old Spice and grandpas). But I totally understand what people say when they discuss notes. The individual notes sure hit you at different times! Unfortunately I’m not a fan of super complex opening notes but it improves with wear if you are into white florals and spicy scents. Floral and spicy notes are something my nose is HIGHLY attuned to, to a fault, so I gave this away.

SmellingEurope

It's a good perfume! Mature vanilla, super long lasting. I get something dirty though, like dusty, old dirty. A bit like someone left vanilla and flowers in a dusty attic, where it's gotten rotten.

Cess268

I really wanted to like this but, this is so Harsh! Idk what it is its just STRONG, and not in a good way. And according to the notes, it should be at least a like for me. I've tried it different climates tried one spray and walking into it, its just a complete scrubber for me.

Edit 10/7/21
I finally figured out what the problem is with this one it's the Orange Blossom that is giving me screechiness. It took me awhile to but a few other fragrances that have the note in it does the same thing.

Sherine777

Cristinaaa is absolutely right. I smell the Night blooming Cereus in the newer 2014 version EDP loud and clear, although it is not listed in the notes. The 2 EDPs are identical in composition, only the bottle changed.

Cristinaaa

I'm in love. This warm, vanilla-centric, spicy scent somehow manages to be loud and demure at the same time. The vintage formulation is long lasting, creamy and incredibly seductive. Since the magic of this fragrance has been described a million times before, I won't bother going into the note breakdown. However, I will add one observation: the vintage formulation, while AMAZING, smells very similar to the current formulation. Other reviewers have mentioned this as well. If you don't have the means to obtain this version, don't worry. In my experience, the new version is very long lasting and the fragrance is identical despite the changes to the note composition.

Siv7Stars

I bought a back up of this years ago, just as they reformulated it n changed the packaging. That bottle has now turned a bit. I keep my collection in sealed plastic crates in a cool dark cupboard, so if you have this one maybe it's time to just use it or lose it.
