Dolce&Gabbana by Dolce&Gabbana is a Floral Aldehyde fragrance for women. Dolce&Gabbana was launched in 1992. Dolce&Gabbana was created by Jean-Pierre Mary and Martine Pallix. Top notes are Aldehydes, Basil, Citruses, Ivy, Mandarin Orange, Freesia and Bergamot; middle notes are Carnation, Marigold, Coriander, Orange Blossom, Lily, Jasmine, Bulgarian Rose and Lily-of-the-Valley; base notes are Sandalwood, Vanilla, Musk and Tonka Bean.

This classical, intensive, feminine aroma belongs to the group of aldehyde-floral fragrances. This is the first fragrance of Dolce & Gabanna. The composition is based on contrasts: sweet and bitter, feminine and masculine. The top notes are aromatic-citrusy and include mandarin, bergamot, basil and aldehydes – a rather strong opening. The heart is feminine floral created of jasmine, floral-spicy carnation, sweet orange blossom and lily. Silky sandalwood in the base is complemented with the sweet and balsamic notes of vanilla, Tonka and musk. This fragrance is recommended for evening wear and special occasions. It was created in 1992.

Euroitalia EDT
Words cannot describe my love for this fragrance. When I think about the art of perfumery, this pops into my mind immediately. Nothing compares to how I feel while wearing this out in high summer heat. A fresh blowout, a fitted white tee with denim shorts, red nails, gold jewelry, with two sprays of Red Cap... I'm in heaven. It's sultry, crisp, airy. It's loud yet not obnoxious. Somehow elegant and sexual. Luxury aldehydic-floral bliss.

Aeternitas

Oh, D&G Red Cap.
You are Mediterranean mojo. An Italian sex bomb.
I love her, and I want to be her eternal cult member.
Embrace the aldehydes.
I don't know what the hell else I'm smelling; I just know it's a blissful cornucopia of Italian greatness.

My mom had this back in the day, and I bought this for myself recently from eBay.
It's an absolute powerhouse, even as an EDT, so it's a "spray-and-walk-through-the-mist" kind of thing for me; a full, direct dosage will make my head spin.

When you walk out of a room, Red Cap stays. She sticks to the walls.
She makes you walk with your shoulders and chin held high, and your chest out, because you can't wear her any other way.

perfumekiwifigorange

One of the best. Tonka bean, aldehydes and orange. It's a proper, adult perfume. Sticks to you and on you, and lasts forever. I love it. Found it at the thrift store by accident and thought it was rotten the first time I sprayed it. Then it grew on me. Ended up absolutely loving it, especially the aldehydes. Think rich aunt. But it also reminds me of old books, and dust, and rain. It can be worn year round but I like it during the summer.

Suncica7

If you're lucky enough, like myself, this magic works with your skin.
This is Mediterranean summer, passion, sex appeal, seduction, scent of the sea early in June, sultry dresses, getting ready for the night out. The dirtiness, nastiness, dancing nights. Sleepless nights at the beach, pools... Old towns with roman cobblestone.
I do not believe you can really enjoy this unless you have lived or grown up in the Mediterranean.

Elsee

Absolutely stunning.

Blossomlove

My sister wore this in the 90's and I still love it. I normally don't like aldehydes but it works in this fragrance. It's soapy and sexy. It's clean smelling but also a little exotic and intense. What's great about this scent is it lasts and it projects so well. It's aldehydes, atypical floral notes, sandalwood, herbal spice, and some vanilla and musk. This is a perfume perfume. You're not going to smell like a bath and body works fruity scent, you're going to smell like a grown woman who wants to wear perfume. The perfume is blended very well and quite honestly, outside of the aldehydes, it's not easy to detect individual notes. There is a correlation with men's cologne, probably due to the sandalwood, basil, and coriander-but it still reads feminine, to me. It's a power scent to me-I see a boss bitch wearing this. Definitely could be a signature scent as well. I'm glad D&G is still making this and I hope they never stop. I feel like it's their Chanel #5 but for Gen X.

This can still be purchased directly from the D&G website. Also, wait at least 5 minutes before sniffing as it's intense/sharp until it dries, but once it dries, you get the full beauty of this scent.

I would consider this to be one of my classiest scents next to Chanel 5 L'Eau, Rouge Malachite, Coco Noir, Elie Saab, Santal Royal, Good Girl, Gone Bad (the dumbest name for an elegant white floral).

shenamedel

Dolce & Gabbana with the Red Cap reminds me of Vivre Molyneux 1971 version very much & are both floral aldehydes fragrances; unfolding & enveloping in beauty, & gorgeous everlasting drydown that is like catnip to me. Very happy & fulfilling to keep sniffing my wrist for this aroma; Yes, please! I tried to enter Vivre Molyneux 1971 version in the Reminds Me Of Section, but I see no display. So, I say it here as well.

diego.lesgart

Other gem abandon. Among flankers and generics... D&G completly forgot this glorious fragance and the BY animal-print bolles. No explanatior for its discontinued.

Miss boudoir

The more I wear the vintage euroitalia parfum de toilette version, the more I am reminded by the vintage eau de parfum of addict by Christian Dior. Yes, it is true, these two are very much related. Amazing 🤩

Heartache

This was a blind buy for me. Having read all the accolades over the years I expected it to smell amazing. Initial blast is a sharp soap smell ,clean but unpleasant. This hangs around for several hours with intermittent smells that resembles a shower glass cleaner spray. I have tested it every which way for a week, on fabric and on skin. Eventually after about 12 hours it settles into a quite nice dry down but nothing mind blowing. Not worth the the wait or the money. To my nose it smells cheap and nasty and horrible.

EuniceMine

This stuff is beyond beautiful 😍. I own several D&G fragrances but this one is my favorite by far. I love the aldehydes note it provides the whole time you wear it. This is what a clean rich WOMAN would smell like to me 😂 I don’t like sweet scents so this is definitely not sweet. Clean is the best way for me to describe it. But not clean as in lemony, just clean sophisticated. Just do yourself a favor and get it. The longer it stays in your collection the better it smells like fine wine(taste) is just beautiful.

algebraist

This has been relaunched and has returned to being made in Italy, with "made in Italy" now written on the front of the velvet box. I purchased a bottle in Spain and was informed they received the stock July 2023 after several years being out of stock of the made in France formulation. I will comment that it seems to be warmer than the made in France formulation, with a greater emphasis on the orange blossom rather than muguet or aldehydic notes, with some aromatic and spicy facets..

anamaria@n

Was this perfume relaunched? If yes, could you please help me finding it? I absolutely love this perfume and I am having difficulties finding it to purchase. Many thx!

Maya lilac

Dolce&Gabbana is a moderate sweet powdery floral. Not that it’s a bad scent but it’s nothing spectacular to worth pining over! It’s well balanced and blended for sure and can’t really distinguish any particular notes from the bunch listed, just an overall powdery, musky, creamy, smooth scent.

I love and own a couple of the modern DG creations but I don’t think I need this classic in my collection.

Julie Davis

Wow ! This stuff is gorgeous ! The longer it rests the better it gets … got a bottle of the Italy … the florals and citruses are just beautiful ! I can’t stop spraying it on myself !

Miss boudoir

Dolce and Gabbana red cap scent is an interesting composition. The parfum de toilette by euroitalia is my favorite version. It's aldehydic with a strong carnation undertone. It opens like samsara or chanel no 5 eau de toilette but it departs to a different direction, the carnation hairspray olfactory avenue that is quite linear yet very sensual. On the other hand, vintage Samsara is heavy on sandalwood and green notes like vetiver perhaps? Chanel no 5 is bright boozy citrusy and so happy! The vintage Dolce and Gabbana red cap perfume is the scent of a Mediterranean woman that has the strong temperament, to some very sexy, to others intimidating.

A woman that loves the presence of a strong man next to her

shannfernando

Gosh, this stuff is BEAUTIFUL and extremely womanly! I cannot get enough of it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! FYI - I am 31 years young! :D

natasha28

D&G EDT-  It's okay, I kind of like it. It smells familiar and would be really nice for a women aged 50+. It might be a bit strong for the summer, but it's a good all year daytime scent, even for night too. I can understand why so many people love it. It's a very weary mature woman scent. It was put out in 1992, which is prob why it smells familiar to me. It sits arm's length. It's a bit too heavy on the florals to be my type of scent, but its not gross like some other yellow florals I've smelled. The adleyies smell warm. I wouldn't buy or keep if gifted

Melody Valentine

Ah I loooovveee this stuff. My mam had it on yesterday and I could smell it all day. It is a BIT similar to Chanel no5 but less sharp, soapy and citrusy and more smooth and spicy. I'm sure my mam has said in the past she's not keen on no5 but she loves this.

Aromatic is a good description of it. It's a beautiful blend of sweet and savoury. There's perfumes in a similar vein to this but it's very unique smelling. I've never owned it, it's always just been at my mam's I've smelled it or tried it but now I want it so badly.

I definitely get the aldehydes, marigolds and basil, coriander, carnation and rose. It's got a lovely spicy, creamy, woody base with just a touch of sweetness but not a synthetic sugary sweetness or a syrupy kind. I love sugary sweet notes but it'd ruin this one

A proper 90s perfume. Strong and noticeable. It's sexy but classy imo. I can't believe this is only an edt, my mam went off to buy some shoes yesterday and met back up with us when we came out of clip n climb and the second she got within a couple of feet of us I could smell her perfume again. Between this and the dupe of Midnight Poison I just got, I've got a proper urge for old skool classics again.

Frabra88

Omg! Did they relaunch this?
I am seeing it on alot of shops. I sure hope so, this is one of my fave, unforgettable. I used it during my youth, when I seriously started to dress elegant.

miraclesrule

I just found my old nearly full bottle from the 90's next to a half full perfumed body lotion, both made it Italy.
I'm so happy I found it in the back of the cabinet. I have been on an expensive new perfume discovery mission since they discontinued Opium perfumed body cream and that was my Fall and Winter go too. I love the body cream more than the EDT and it lasted forever on my skin. In any case, I may get to stop the expensive hunting for a new scent now that I found the D&G. It really is a lovely winter scent and brings back sooooo many amazing memories. I'm glad I stocked upback in the day and recently deep cleaned.

Tshahb

Similar to Chanel No 5 EDT, but cheaper and easier to wear.

No 5 has a sharp, acerbic edge which belongs in an era when it was acceptable for a feminine fragrance to choke everyone out and make their eyes water.

This is a softer, more modern approach to the same idea, albeit with almost as heroic and challenging a blast of aldehydes in the opening. The difference is the abundance of florals and citrus which accompany the abrasive chemical side. Everything is discernable here, and unilike no 5 I don't wince at the OTT scratchiness.

Needless to say I prefer this, and so does my wallet.

Update:
Now my bottle has had a few days to macerate, the perfume has blossomed. Instead of BAM ALDEHYDES IN YO FACE, it's a less histrionic, smoother mix of sparkle, citrus and florals, with a very dainty bed of patchouli carrying it.
FYI I have the new formulation and it's great. I'm not familiar with the old, and I don't see the point of bleating on about the differences and/or the fact it's lost...this phenomena is part and parcel of perfumery, suck it up.

Chatulie

I have this perfume 25/15 ml, I bought it at the end of the nineties, it still smells the same as when it was new. I can send it from Europe. [email protected]

stellaracorrea

I had this perfume in the late 90s; it was so remarkable that I still have the fragrance memory. It's the best perfume I've ever had, both in fragrance and longevity. I'd say it's an all-year perfume, but better suited for evening/night occasions. I remember using it for my prom, and I felt so special!

bellahell

I can’t even believe I found this gorgeous perfume. This absolutely lovely woman was getting rid of some of her vintage elixir’s, on marketplace. It’s the Made In ITALY version, no doubt!!! After doing homework and reading so many reviews on this, I knew I had to own it. Today was my first whiff of this AMAZING frag, so I’m going to live with it for a week or so before giving a proper review… but so far, all I have to say is BOOM!!!!!!!!!! after one spray. I’m in heaven…

Suncica7

One more update about Made in France- I sprayed my aunt's wrist and went out around the house, when I came back to the living room- only one spray- fulfilled the whole room, wonderful.
Thank you lord.

cats_eye

I always felt like Dolce and Gabbana classic was kind of copying Joop Femme, but it wasn't quite as nice IMO. D&G is more floral and aldehydic and Joop Femme is deeper and richer with sandalwood and musk. Revlon Unforgettable and Incognito were the drugstore versions. Still a beautiful scent if you can do aldehydes.

jazzfan

So, I got myself a bottle because I am a crazy perfume lady and this stuff has cult status. Nobody around me wore it in the '90 or '00, I would have noticed.

I couldn't wait it to settle so I opend it immediatly. Squiky cellophane, velvety red box and cheap plasticky cap. Made in France. Batch code said 14th November '22.
One careful sprey on my arm...oh, this is some seriously good stuff! So, I doused myself accordingly. And it just keeps getting better. Almost abstract, every time I smell my arm or catch a hint in motion, I find another facet. I didn't expect it to be this complex. Or this good! It makes me remember and regret Sicily, having that baby back would be marvelous. I couldn't find that Velvet version anywhere. Or more glamorous version of Melograno. Ah, those Italians...
Such a timless beauty, clearly floral aldehyde, mostly white, with some cold and delicate herbs and spices. Creamy sandalwood, vanilla and tonka in the drydown and just a hint of funk. Gets spicier and quite soapy with time. It smells and developpes differently on different parts of the body. Very temperamental and temperature sensitive. So mediterranean!
I love it!
No, I never smelled it before. How did that even happen? I was alive and thoroughly perfumed in the '90! I would have remembered it!

Suncica7

I washed myself in Made in France, but that is not that, just a faint echo of what it was, really. And I am saaaaad.... i hope in summer heat it will project better. And it is a fraud in the shop- the tester is Italian version, so imagine that. It must have been made before 2005, when they started making it in Germany. Btw , I had a MIG version, it was fantastic, a power house really. If you get your hands on the German version, no need to worry bout the thing.
But this one... what have they done. But in the beginning there is the magic of heat, the salt of the sea, it does smell like summer, when you first smell the sea salt after the winter. And then it disappears after 15 mins. And my skin is oily to normal, so it is not a problem.

EDIT: It's been six days since my review, and it is GROWING on me, THANK LORD, now just a very tiny splash of it, not even a full splash, leaves a trail and I can feel it on me for few hours. Magical. Thank God. I am still searching for the Italian version- if there's anyone here from Europe selling it, let me know.
It works and it is still stronger than many today's perfumes.
It only lack that little bit of vintagy smell that I am so crazy about.

People complemented me already, this new version- they said ''so unusual, elegant, lady like'' and then there was my sister, who immediately recognized it and said it is so sexy.

Salkavalka

What can I say? D&G 1992...So incredibly soft, sweet and buttery, one can only imagine it's what baby unicorns' muzzles smell like. I have many backup bottles because I never want to run out.

Suncica7

Love, love, love, a woman who knows what she wants and what she brings to the table and the whole room, just the synonym for a woman, femininity, sex appeal, synonym for the perfume really- this is the perfume you use for making a statement and intimidating people.
But let me tell you, just from the bottle I might have never bought it, if i did not get it ages ago , as a gift, but with my skin chemistry it turns into the sexiness. It looses that headache and vintage qualities, it grows into wow statement, old money, luxury, sexy, dolce fur niente, everything.
When I was younger this reminded me of Dolce Vita, but now Dolce is too sweet on me, this is more dirty and has that pinch of sth that is maybe even little bit masculine but only for the sake of being so sexy. It is so unlike everything nowadays.
Magic on the skin. Everyone smelling it from the bottle- my friends, shop assistants said it was a strong no-no until they smelt it on my skin.
And btw the tester is made in Italy, but the selling one is made in France....

Project Nostalgia

Beast mode 🥰 I have the Made in Germany EDT formulation
She is powdery, floral, aldehydic and screams MONEY 💰
This perfume lingers like no other...she is not shy! She manages to bring nostalgia without feeling dated in any way. The notes are so beautiful I feel like this is the scent for a boss bitch. Blazer suit and maybe some heels. Day or night...any time of year. Gorgeous gorgeous scent ....

Harley522

This is one of the most unique perfumes ever created, but I’m talking only about original Euroitalia version. This perfume requires right mood, right person and right state of mind. Along with Sicily really captures the essence of Dolce & Gabbana.
You must truly love all things Mediterranean, to feel and understand this perfume. For me this perfume evokes:
Ancient world around Mediterranean Sea
Malena
Godfather
Casino
The smell is sweet, clean, airy, hot and somewhat buttery. You can clearly smell basil, orange blossom and aldehydes.
This perfume also smells great in summer heat.
I also love adverts for this perfume. They are so sexy.

sabsizzle

I really do feel bad rating a review as "hate" but I have to with this one... It is so, so incredibly strong and smells like ammonia. It causes me to sneeze and wince in disgust. It is similar to Chanel no. 5 in my opinion, just intense and really must take a certain person to be able to pull this off.

haunt_me

there is a line in the "con" section: "musky and woody, smelling like vagina to some" - it made me laugh! healthy vaginas do not smell bad! but in the same vein, it may smell like vulva after a good wash with expensive soap. it smells clean and classic. it is a good smell. a respectable scent.

Tinabill

She’s the youngest offspring of a huge old-money hierarchical empire. She’s as luxe, riche, confident, successful and full of personality as it can ever be, but she’s still more approachable and warm than her older siblings. Her features are softer, her attitude friendlier, she wears D&G edt and her sisters wear #5 and Caleche.
D&G edt (red cap) was almost impossible to find in my country until I stumbled by a last flacon at a local online seller for a dear price. I didn’t hesitate and bought it, only to find it was a leaky bottle and half the juice was wasted already. The worthless packaging smelled glorious though 😂. The seller would have me refunded on return but I was so stupid to keep it as I couldn’t find a replacement. Of course I wore it four or five times only before it was completely evaporated from the bottle and gone. A very expensive mistake but I have no regrets. Better to have sniffed and lost than never to have sniffed it at all 😆. This is how much I love 💕 it.

Mona708

It puts me in mind of a soapier and more animalic interpretation of Van Cleef and Arpel’s First, but with a smidge of herbs thrown into the mix. This would be a great scent for a formal night out. It screams “mature, sexy polished woman” without being too bold.

Angeldaisy

tested on paper - Aldehydes! marigold! after a burst of oranges. soft spicey, floral, herbal, rich, sweet, creamy sandalwood.
Am surprised there is no RL Safari in the smells-like line up, it is similar to the OF parfum.
Early 90s palette for sure, instantly thought of Safari, Dune and Esprit Dune.
Euroitalia. hadnt noticed I had bought parfum de toilette, which is different to the EDT I have previously tried, disliked and passed on.
Glad I gave this beauty another try. It really is lovely. definitely worth hunting down if you like a bit of 90's oumph. will have to pluck up some courage to try this on my person, she is no wallflower.

al-lewinsky

My mom's signature scent and my favourite of her collection that she wears! A sharp aldehyde that initially bites, but in the drydown becomes incredibly inviting. The frag is the very definition of glamorous - I mean, down to its velvet red & gold packaging; it is sooo lush. Its longevity is insane, and there's a depth to it that develops over the course of the day when worn. I've noticed over the years that this adapts well and adjusts to any kind of climate.

GLOW888

Hello guys!
I eas Born in early ‘80 s. I wore this parfume (Red cap, original formula), in 1999. I am nostalgic, in my country i bought The new formula, with burgundy velvet box and I found it very different! Please help me to find the old formula. I live in Romania but I think I can buy it online. I am planning a vacation in Italy, maybe I will fine it in store? I am nostalgic and I miss this perfume! Thank you!🙏

Scentfrommanna

As a perfume lover I was aware of this juice being the stuff of perfume legend, and the discontinuation was much lamented by the perfume community. The current Pour Femme with the small purple cap is an abomination in my opinion, a marshmallow, hairspray mess that actually makes me gag.
I bought a Euroitalia miniature on eBay but it had turned, although I could still smell some of the beauty of this and was determined to try a fresh or unspoiled bottle. I’ve managed to get hold of a Beaute Prestige Eau De Toilette bottle, made in France, from FragranceX (so definitely genuine). It arrived today, and I’ve not been this excited about a perfume arriving since I managed to snag a bottle of Versace Blonde. My word, this is stunning!
I can see the resemblance to Chanel No 5, sure there are aldehydes in here but they are creamy and well blended as opposed to the punchy, fresh air blast you get from no.5 (and which I love about no.5). If this had smelt like no.5 I would have been disappointed as I have that perfume and adore it and don’t need a dupe. There is a warmth in this perfume that no.5 doesn’t have. This definitely has the richness of no.5 though.
This smells like laundry drying in the sun in a hot country, as described by some others on here and I think it will work well in all seasons, even the hottest, where it will bloom on the skin. It’s like a really beautiful body lotion. I can’t pick out any particular notes and definitely not the coriander which I struggle with as a note.it is definitely aromatic as opposed to floral.
It reminds me a little of Joop and Gabriela sabatini’s perfume, although it is not a dupe of any of these. It smells timeless, classic and not dated in anyway.
The current formulation doesn’t seem to be as beast mode as original versions of the scent but nothing is beast mode nowadays with all these blasted reformulations, except a good oud perfume, Montale, La Vie est Belle or Baccarat. As @simplecreative has said, there’s nothing else out there that smells like this, so the lack of sillage and longevity is a compromise I am prepared to make to have this beautiful fragrance in my life.
Why on earth did D&G discontinue/severely scale down the production of this one? It’s signature material, and I, along with countless others would happy buy this on repeat for the rest of my days!

simplecreative

This is one of my top 3 signature scents. A friend I visited in LA back in 1996 had it, and I had to get my own bottle immediately.
I've gone through several bottles in my life, but didn't have it for about 5 years until recently. Since it almost impossible to find it in any store in Canada, I ordered my recent bottle on fragrancenet.com. It seems a little less "beast" than my previous ones and doesn't seem to last as long, but it's the only fragrance I know that smells like this, so it will never be replaced.

Bomber81

I blind bought the deodorant spray of this from someone 2nd hand. She accidently bought it thinking it was the perfume.. well I can't find any information on the deodorant, can someone help me with this? I have questions:
Is this an actual deodorant? To be sprayed under the arms? Instead of regular deodorant? Or treated as a perfume? I'm so confused. 🤔🥴

EDIT: Wow! I am in LOVE with this.
I REQUIRE a full bottle of edp. This is amazing! I layered it, testing it as a deodorant last night while wearing Sicily edp. Now, I know I can't replace Sicily - when she's gone, she's gone. But if you have Sicily and D&G, try layering them. The D&G perfume deodorant is surely most certainly lighter than the actual perfume itself, I'm sure without having even tested the edp. Their sillage and longevity must also hold a significant contrast, but if you compare the notes, you'll see they are so related. Even if you want to preserve your Sicily (I get it, I scored a 2nd hand bottle 3/4 full and she's down to 1/4 left...) if you are in the mood for a perfume experience, I dare you to test them together. GLORIOUS!
The perfume angels are singing! 🎶

D&G (perfume deodorant) smells so much like Chanel 5, I'm going to check and compare the notes then try layering her in there. I'm buying a new 100ml bottle (2nd hand) for 80$ this week, and can not wait. I've been without for a while. If you love either of these, you'll love the other.

Forget about Sicily unless you are some kind of heiress and someone is waving palm trees on you while someone else is feeding you grapes between sips of mojitos on your own beach. Do we have a proper dupe yet?? Someone please let us know...
But if you loved Sicily, I would bet money that you will love D&G. She is not the same, don't be mistaken. But they hold many similar notes, and again, I'm only speaking on the perfume deodorant, but definitely don't pass up a bottle if you come across it.
I won't! :)

TexasOrangeBlossom

I used to believe this was best saved for winter and special occasions. No more! Maybe the original formulation, which I owned, wasn’t as versatile. It was a little heavier. The current formulation feels perfectly comfortable in everything except high heat and humidity. I’m going out in jeans and a tee, running errands, rocking it in spring like weather.

Samrocky

I smell this and I am instantly back to being 18 again.its a night time perfume.very unique,I have never since had a scent close to it
Purchased on ebay just for the nostalgia
I bought the Italia version smells the same was I remember.maybe not so strong but im sure I spritzer it a lot when I was younger so could be that 😅
Love it for the memories

LivingForPerfumeFrenchie

The original version ( bright red cap ) is about as masterful as they come. It smells like royalty. If you put this on you smell like you own a palace, not even kidding!

So strong, it lasts days, on the skin and on the clothes ( even after washing !) Amazing projection ( room filling, more so house filling even ) and lasts for ages.

It has something official and serious to it, an elegance of royal stature. It has so much renaissance to it, so much beauty, like the Michelangelo ceilings.

Citrusy and a bit sharp on aldehydes at the top, It develops into beautiful flowers with aldehydes softer in the background over time. It leaves room for beautiful flowers and a soft hint of vanilla. You get the musk straight away, I smell it seconds after spraying. It's a beautiful round musk, not too dry.

It's not grandma soapy and sharp like Ungaro Diva at all. It's not the same ball park. I feel like Diva is just all a ton of flowers, powder and soap being thrown at you with sharp aldehydes for a very very long time. I only like the dry down after hours with Diva.

DG I enjoy instantly, even if the first 5 minutes are quite intense because it's an absolute beast.

Yes the aldehydes are a bit sharp / screechy at the start with D&G PF, but it gets balanced out very fast and the mid and base just continue non stop glory. It glides. It's not first : boom ! and then gone. There is a whole 48 hour journey with this one. The power is like magic, it never dies, there is a consistency to it, whilst also allowing different notes to shine as you go through your 48 hour journey with this royal fragrance.

This perfume just smells like the Queen. No other way to put it. It smells like old money and a kingdom and several palaces in Europe. It elevates anyone who wears it, like a crown. It makes you want to buy golden cutlery, expensive paintings and antique jewellery of high value. It makes you want to go to high luxury hotels, and have front seat at the races next to the Queen.

Not for the faint hearted. This is for people who want a powerful royal elegant bomb. This perfume is the epicentre of sophistication and royal status.

I’m rating the 2007 version. I bought this before IFRA made the potency changes and before they replaced natural oils for synthetics made in a lab. My bottle is a powerhouse of juice. It’s sexy, feminine, has a strong sillage, and is very long lasting. It’s the most unique smelling I have in my collection next to Parfums de Marly Delina. The perfume strong, sexy, a woman written all over it. I highly recommend it.

Suncica7

The definition of sex in a bottle. Also, the character has to be a woman from the warmer parts of the world. I felt as Amazonian woman even during the coldest January nights.
It is just - sex appeal, strong, unapologetic, peace disturbing, feminine to the bone, femme fatale scent.
I don't even find good the 90s scents generally, not just attractive but at all nice and pleasant. Won't name the iconic 90s here, but any of them for me just big no, and I am glad that the wave of sweeter fragrances came in these years now. But this one is ICONIC this one is FOREVER. This one is WOW. WOW.
Everyone went crazy about BR540 and I admire it as well, and it reminds SORT OF this one- but this is ULTRA FEMININE , sweeter, warmer ! It is a seductive woman in a bottle where the highlight of life is to dance, kiss and make love in the summer, living by the beach and being care free. And so UNUSUAL. UNUSUAL.

A new love for me. I have the euroitalia parfum de toilette version…

RandomPatterned

This seems more complex than I can adequately describe. I don't perceive rose or any of the white flowers individually. I do smell some greens, a bit of spice, carnations, marigolds, and a hint of underlying sweetness. The overall impression I get is of soapiness (but not overly musky) with aromatics. It's a nice blend that enhances a classy put-to-together vibe. My day-to-day lifestyle is much more casual, but I can appreciate the appeal, it seems more interesting than Chanel #5. Others have mentioned headaches, I'm prone to them but didn't have a problem - I tend to apply lightly though. My carded dabber sample indicated P&G was the manufacturer.

amisamsuri

Sprayed this in store along with Estee Lauder White Linen and Elizabeth Taylor White Diamonds. This was the soapiest of them all in a good way. Smells like an luxury hotel lobby to me haha.

Bought it in cold weather while I was travelling (loved it then) and brought it back to my hot and humid country and I CANT WEAR THIS. I love the smell but when I spray it on, I get a headache.
Going to keep it and keep trying in the future because I really do love how it smells.

Miss boudoir

The new made in France by shiseido is very very good and although bit more synthetic...it lasts on clothes for days ..the opening is close to the parfum de toilette by Procter and gamble version made in Germany.. and the drydown is close to Dior addict vintage... interesting twist...
The euroitalia parfum de toilette is awesome though... The drydown reminded me of dolce and Gabbana by perfume for women...the leopard bottle... My signature...

LSAUG

A nice perfume friend here gave me a vintage decant of this iconic fragrance. I wonder if the new reformulation is as good as this is. This reminds me a bit of Ysatis by Givenchy only in that it is a powerhouse aldehydic floral from the 20th century. A century I still miss very much. Ysatis has the greenness of galbanum and creamy white florals that are amped up w/ powerful aldehydes. D&G has the fresh spicy greenness of basil but instead of white florals it is carnation that is the star of the show w/ those powerful aldehydes. This is not a sweet perfume, and you probably have to be a certain age to appreciate this perfume, I am 52 and I enjoy this type of scent profile. I can see why D&G is compared to #5 but for some reason #5 or any Chanel for that matter never works for me. I don't need a full bottle of this, my decant will be enough since my favorite aldehydes (when I crave them) are White Diamonds, Joy, 1000, Un Amour, Enjoy, Aprege, L'Heure Attendue (Heritage Collection Jean Patou) Priscilla Presley's Roses and More and the new 21st century type Fox in a Flowerbed. But this is very enjoyable when applied w/ a light hand (a little goes a very long way) Carnation is powerful even w/out aldehydes. You have to really enjoy both those notes to enjoy this perfume. Soapy, fresh like a very clean white shirt, fresh spicy floral of yesteryear.

Edit: 11/30/22 Damn wearing this again now and I think I need a full bottle. This perfume really seduces you. At first, I thought I have enough aldehydic florals I don't need another one, but I was wrong. D&G is really special and what makes it special is the carnation spiciness which is a real standout since most aldehydic florals are based on white florals. I will be ordering this right way. The more you smell it (and I kept smelling my decant all the time letting it seduce me) the more you crave it. I have to upgrade this to a love. It was like a boy in school that you like liked at first then became crazy about in a few weeks LOL. Full bottle worthy.

Britneycollector

I don't know where to begin with this one.

I normally trust the reviews on here and after so many amazing reviews about this, I decided to do a blind buy, oh boy.

It was not a safe blind buy....

For me, personally the notes individually is really nice and classy, smells like a boss bitch, strong woman, executive woman.

However on my skin, it created this extremely confusing smell of fabric softener, warm spicy coriander powder smells and ends with this headache inducing sharp citrus/orange/powdery musky smell.

Instead of enjoying the purfume it gave me this intense headache, I was not able to enjoy it, as EDT I was hoping it wouldn't last that long but it went on the whole day/night it was suffocating....

It is however a very nice purfume just not on my skin, it brought out this fabric softeners warm coriander powder musky orange sharp smell I cannot enjoy, even writing about this actually makes me gag.

Disappointing gem for me, I was really hoping for a power house like the Dolce and Gabbana Pour Femme or the Balenciaga Paris vibe. This is definitely not it

*****Update*****

I was so determined to wear this and I've found a solution!
It was missing a sweet and softer side to the purfume so I've layered this with Britney Spears Intense Fantasy and it has been my go to ever since!

For those who cannot wear this purfume directly on skins or clothes I would highly recommend you to try this combination out! What an absolute pleasure to wear and many compliments!!!!

Simply a Masterpiece!

BEAST OF A SCENT! Wow... gives me a migraine unfortunately 😫 I understand this is a fragrance that needs to evolve and developed over time but shit, I put it on just before work and an hour after I had to try to wash some off of me... me head is not having it. I'm scared of it!

Mobrien37

Smells like Chanel No22 & No5 mixed together. Very comforting. Can see why this perfume gets so much love. I adore it.

AnlisaC

Love this aldehydic masterpiece. I love this in the summer, it smells different on me in the winter which I love it morphs into something, very cozy and such a stunner! Summer brings out the florals on my skin and it mellows it out to be suited for the warmer weather. I will always have you in my collection. Highly recommended 9/10

PS I have the Italian formulation

ahmednaseri

This perfume is essentially two different scents depending on when you smell it; the opening and heart is bright, soapy, loud and frankly annoying. BUT, the scent cloud of the dry-down (which may take centuries to get there) is stunning. Gone are the cloying, soapy, aldehydic notes and what’s left is a warm, ambery sweet, powdery floriental (oriental-floral) goodness. I’ve been using a heavily diluted version of this scent that I make myself where I mix 1:20 ratio of the Red perfume with rubbing alcohol in a small spray bottle. Even with this heavy dilution the smell is quite potent and lasts a long time on clothes. This allows me to skip the aldehydes and go straight to the base, plus it has the upside of having more bang for my buck per ml of this precious juice.

I should say that my bottle is a 2001 euroitalia formula, which is da bomb.

MakeupNeverSleeps

I have a recently produced made in France batch, and I’m so happy with it. I can’t think of smelling something just like this before, but in a way…it reminds me of the herbal, fresh, sandalwood base effect of Byredo Gypsy Water, combined with the lightness and aldehydic brightness of Byredo Blanche (sans the combined astringent effect of the peony). The person that likes that vibe would most likely appreciate this one. I’m someone that can’t handle the intensity of aldehydes in Chanel No. 5 and/or Nina Ricci L’air du Temps and wondered if this was going to be intolerable for the same reason. It’s not the case. I think this one is interesting, effortless, and extremely unisex. It’s believably clean and sensual/sexy, in a nonchalant way. It smells like a person that naturally smells clean, if that makes sense.

D&G for Women - A 90's-Love Declaration to Chanel No.5

I can only imagine that hundrets of (yet unknown) parfumers work for IFF und try to create memorable fragrances for their customers. So when the day came, that Dolce & Gabbana wanted their first fragrance, 2 IFF-parfumers (Jean-Pierre Mary and Martine Pallix) thought they could give D&G, what Ernest Beaux gave Coco Chanel... so they created something new by reinventing something old (a fragrance, which both consider sacred).
Ever since I tried D&G 'Red Cap' for the first time, it somehow reminded me of Chanel No.5, but a lot better... Although both fragrance stand alone all by them selves as aldehydic-fragrances, to comapre them is a far stretch. I own 'No.5', but It's not really mine. D&G has more flower power (emphesis on power) and is better rounded. It eludes power vibes and the dominance of soulder pads from the 90's.

I own many a fragrance and sniffed even more, but rarely have I come across soch a well balanced and well crafted fragrance.
10/10... and it lastes for days.

étoilesdejasmin

My mothers new favorite ! If you love obsession and euphoria and black opium, you will love this. I think it’s a little soapy, but she cannot stop sniffing her wrist.

CiCiGourmand

Not to be confused with the current Dolce & Gabbana pour femme. These are two totally different scents. The og has soapy aldehydes where the most recent is super sweet and all about the marshmallow note in the base.

I love the OG D&G so much that I ordered a back up bottle. This one is for the grown and sexy. This is for those who love beast mode fragrances and have the confidence to back it up because it's loud, but oh so delicious. To me I would compare this to Instant Crush by Mancera. Not because they smell the same, no. This is regarding performance and projection. This is what a femme fatale would wear when she needs to make a statement. 🐯

PerfumedParrot

I’ve got the original EuroItalia version and it’s beautiful but… I can’t get past the indolic note. It’s the foul mixed with the fragrant as the rodent urine sour tang outweighs the stunning floral surround. I’m going to wear it for today as I’m strangely obsessed but it’s a funky floral mouse-wee no from me.

Update: I can still smell it almost 24 hours later, that’s extraordinary. The indolic notes have gone but the dry-down is like Nivea cream, soft and feminine.

Iris128

This one is for the femme fatale IF it works for your skin. It never did on mine but it was my mum's signature scent and i have never smelled any perfume more divine. It's luxurious, glamorous, sexy and confident, as intense as needed, an all time classic that radiates Italian elegance!

chyan

I bought this immediately after reading through the countless reviews of this scent and scent memories, and I wasn't deterred that I'd be unable to buy the original Italian formulation. I was lucky enough to get the red cap very quickly in the mail which I tore open as soon as I received it.

I didn't really understand it and I couldn't have. It's the kind of scent you just have to smell for yourself. This is probably THE most game-changing scent I have ever got my hands on. I'm now scared it's going to be unavailable at some point and am trying to pace myself in acquiring more bottles.

It's kind of indescribable to me, and the only thing I can really convey is the soapy-aldehydic part of it--but there really is alot more going on here. I just can't describe it because I am not literate enough in notes to really discern them. One of the reviews said it smelled like a bank when you first walk in and I completely agree - it's bizarre, but it does. Like when you first walk in to a bank that is highly air conditioned and the smell of money just hits you in the nose. For this reason I wear this mostly to work; it's definitely not a casual scent, really, in any way. In an off-work setting, I can see someone possibly wearing this to an outdoor event, as the sillage is so great on this it would be noticeable even with other smells and in a light breeze. I may try to wear it to dinner at some point but for now it's a power suit accompaniment. Not sure I'd wear it in the heat as it could be suffocating.

It lasts all day and then some and to me it never really changes after that first half hour or so. My 7 year old got her hands on it and sprayed it all over herself a couple weeks ago, and while it definitely seemed out of place on her, the projection was stable into the evening, and consistently wafted gently behind her as she moved.

The opinions of this scent aren't as hot and cold as I expected they would be, with most people on the "love" side, but I can actually see this one being a love it/hate it kind of smell. It is not safe blind buy. Although it was a huge win for me, I took to it only after my husband sprayed it on his wrist and I had a chance to smell it from a distance. I think was a bit confusing for me when I smelled it on myself. Somehow, the distance made it easier to absorb and fully appreciate the notes; maybe it was because I was perceiving it as masculine on him vs trying to align it with whatever original expectations I had before opening the box. Once I realized how much I loved it on him, I asked him to wear it a few times more, and then eventually took it over again for myself. Not sure if there is any place to get a decant of this, but even if you wind up with a whole bottle and don't like it, I'm sure you won't have a hard time finding someone who will take it off of your hands given the extreme love for this.

violetelle

For me, this fragrance is the epitome of glamour. I want to share with you the story of my parents’ friend Brigitte…

Brigitte is French. She smokes long cigarettes, drinks wine and hosts fabulous but laid back parties. She has olive skin, short dyed caramel hair and wears gold jewellery. She’s unashamedly herself. She has a sultry low voice and laughs loudly and unreservedly. She’s fiercely loyal. Nails always done. She rides motorbikes. She wears D&G red cap.

I know this doesn’t tell you much about the fragrance itself but all the notes are listed here anyway. I remember it as very soapy but that description really doesn’t do it justice. It’s soapy in a refined, pure and very expensive way.

You might expect someone like Brigitte to wear a smoky, oriental scent. But she didn’t need it. She smoked Marlboros and wore high quality leather. She was also a mother and wife who was always well turned out and impeccably stylish. This scent just suited her perfectly.

Brigitte moved back to France, and I haven’t seen her in years. But she left an impression on me. She became my reference point for glamour at such a young age, before I even knew what glamour was.

In sum, this fragrance is classy, sophisticated and timeless - much like Brigitte!!

Cascadia Ecotopia

Scent, thanks for the great tip, would like to score some of that nr 13 pour femme by Grasse Parfums; does anyone know how to obtain it outside of European websites?

Cascadia Ecotopia

Would not refuse this if someone gifted it to me! I may be able to enter the Arden Red Door in all its versions anytime, not need to save any of it, as it’s so easy to obtain everywhere I look, but would probably prefer the chance to use the D & G ‘red cap’ original more frequently though carefully, as an accent. Only drawback, besides the investment and scarcity, was some apprehensiveness over the supposed ‘gasoline fume’ effect some had mentioned elsewhere, contrasted with the clean soap / laundry effect many more notice. Can it truly be both, depending on chemistry? I suppose it might be the Aldehydes talking, along with the greens / leaves, an intimidating, take charge strong entrance. Otherwise, I am in favor of them usually, when well blended and balanced with more natural notes, such as the fresh crisp citrus herbals, and some spiced blossoms grounding the whites in the middle zone here. In the bottom is sweetness and calming comfort, which smoothes the more bracing sharp effects that may linger. It certainly travels a long way from where it began, never forgets its origins, and revels in its success. Impeccably turned out at all times, eye on the prize.

QueenieIrenie

So fresh and clean with just enough spice to keep it from being too soapy. I find it interesting that so many voted this as a winter fragrance more than any other season. The freshness reminds me of spring or summer. The spiciness (I think it's from the carnation, cinnamon, and coriander?) make this a great choice for fall. It reminds me of an effortlessly chic yet sexy woman on the Italian Riviera.

This does not smell outdated to me, it's not like the big '80s perfumes that came out just a few years before. It is strong, but without being overpowering. This can be worn day or night. I remember my sister wearing this when it first came out and I loved it. I had forgotten about it for a while, but after revisiting, I love it even more than I remember. I already bought a backup, and am considering getting one more because of how much I love it and how fearful I am of them discontinuing it once more (if they haven't already...I was not able to find information about this but I have a feeling they have and that's why prices are fairly high for this).

I've never smelled anything quite like this. Even though it's still winter, I find myself craving this scent, but will try to wait for the weather to warm up so that I can do this fragrance justice. I have loved many fragrances over the years, but most of the time, except in a few rare cases, that love is fleeting, and then it's on to the next! Not with this one. It has left quite a memorable impression on me, and I have a feeling this will be a forever love.

Elsee

Just amazing! I received my 'travel spray' today and it had leaked a bit in the box. But, not a problem because it smells glorious just as it used to. I'm thinking now about buying the regular bottle as this could be in my top 7 stash of all time!

And, as someone mentioned, this DOES work well in a dry environment! I'm in the desert of New Mexico and this is perfect. I'm a huge advocate of understanding the fragrance and environment relationship, so thank you D&gredcap for your post. You are spot on!

LeSucreRose

Yummy aldehydes! Perfect for Christmas Day! As a No 5 girl, I love it!

Miss1980

I have both the "vintage" and the re-released version and i can confirm that they smell identical. It's clean, chic, elegant, sexy and warm at the same time. I absolutely love this. Someone else mentioned it being "Guerlainesque". Totally agree. There's definitely a hint of Guerlain.

This was my signature scent ~22 years ago. I had gift set from the early 2000s with a perfumed body lotion, soap and several EDTs bottles that I bought every 2 years until it was discontinued in stores. I'm so delighted that it's available again. And it's true, this was never available as EDP. Only EDT. And it's perfect that way.

Erica.Cass

Very clean! I love it!

Scentedalterego

Very Italian, chique and elegant smelling. It basically smells like a rich b*. It says pour Femme, but it is quite unisex. I looooove to wear it on summer evenings, when it shows its sweeter side, makes me feel sexy, chique and clean. Evokes resorty athmospheres. It definitely blooms in heat, I don't enjoy this in winter. The aldehydes in it make it not for everyone, but has been -and is- popular for a reason.

Lasts all day on me with good sillage.

There are many versions. This review is for the prestige Germany version (2011 bottle).

Ps. Italian (and spanish I believe) pharmacies sell a really good dupe for a few euros, called nr 13 pour femme by Grasse Parfums.

Angelina1931

If you like aldehydes… this one is a standard. No. 5 is a aldehydic floral and D&G pour femme is an aldehydic aromatic. This is a totally unique fragrance. I feel like a white shirt hanging out to dry in the sun next to a grassy field. Once the sunshine burns off, I’m warm and napping in clean sheets. So nice.

D&gredcap

Guys - girls —-> read this ….TRy it on a DRIEDDD weather - it performs 10 times better than on a humid weather!!! Try your scents many times …. Never judge a perfume by one try only!

mmmmgood

To me, there's something very formal, about it...like, Id wear it with a suit or something very nice...a very nice pair of shoes, too. Unisex, to my nose, despite the aldehydes-and-shoulder-pads vibe, it gives off. That's all well and good...but fundamentally, this can be worn by a dude. The sandalwood base, is mouthwatering.

Bouquet Bleu

I am somewhere in between love an like, because I love it but not buying it for the sake of downsizing my wd. However this has everything in the same amount and makes a perfumey-perfume: aldehydes that give cleanliness, sweet flowers, vanilla, aromatic touch, sandalwood. It is a guerlainey vibe if it makes any sense, almost floriental but not really there. I see it as a year rounder for anyone over 25 for a classy yet fun touch.

klararobot

I have the old version by Euroitalia, got about 30% of a 50ml bottle as a hand me down and I'm so glad to be able to experience it. It's such a stunner in such a classy way. It definitely has the warm laundry vibe going on but it's in no way overly illustrative, it's not a caricature of itself --instead, it's charming, it's warm and flirty like a hot summer evening out with friends where you may have had an eye on that one person in particular for a while now and you're having fun and anything could happen... especially with this scent on. It's perfect and I hope the amount I have lasts me forever. Which it just might because one spray is enough, the longevity is eternal and sillage is just enough to envelop those who need to be enveloped ;).

Starlight8

I have a memory with this perfume but it wasn't a personal experience. One summer in my early 20s ,I was working at a seaside resort . Me and around another 15 people from the staff were living in this house together. My roommate , a petite chic girl had this red velvet box perfume. I remember the first morning we were getting ready for work ,when she used it. Oh my god! It filled the whole room, it was a very sexy , sultry scent on a very hot summer day! But what I really thought at that moment is that ,this perfume is not for her.! As other people mentioned it is a grown woman scent , not a 20 year old. On the other hand it really suited her,it did actually gave the impression that she's older. Shame I can't really recall details of the scent back to my nose and brain ,but it is probably because it wasn't me wearing it. I lost contact with that friend of mine , but she's the one I connect to that perfection of a perfume.

Edit : Got my hands on a original Italian version eau De toilet. I really wanted to smell the basil , but still can't. For now all I can smell is initial blast of jasmine ,then aldehydes and sandalwood. I like Chanel 5 , but I really don't think they're similar. In general I cannot describe it , there is nothing on today's market that I can compare it to as a scent. But that's why I like it, one of a kind, weird and awesome!

Lirascents

If only D&G could bring back these beautiful scents they created, this one, BY and Sicily were my ride or die back in the day, they lasted so long and smelled so Good 😩😩

Latitude-29

From a Man's Perspective, One of the Ultimate Womens' Frags.
(Based on the 90s original)

Intimidate your secret lovers.
Intimidate the man in your life.
Intimidate that woman you always wanted to have sex with & finally did.
Intimidate your workmates.
Why not intimidate your mother-in-law too.

This was the 1st frag that D & G launched after their clothing design broke internationally.

I remember at the time, their words to effect were......they wanted to create a perfume in the iconic style of luxe, riche women's perfumes....... & they nailed it!

When asked by reporters if they intended expanding into other lines, they replied to effect if they 'ever did' cosmetics, they would do just a 'great' red lipstick & a luxury compact.

Well that's the image '& smell' I get as a man reviewing this juice.

A beautiful woman....not a girl, popping out her luxury compact & touching up her lipstick.

Aldehydic, acid, powder, Guerlainade-like treatment of florals, "nose-feel tickle" but not in an irritating way. Dry down to musk & the 'presence' of skin.

And that packaging!

That tall rectangular bottle & the block-across-the-top red cap! Understated arrogance at it's most potent.

The concept of this sorting the women-the-women-from-the-girls is irrelevant here, because any 'girl' wouldn't survive 10minutes in the same room with this stuff.

I believe fragrance can be many things on many occasions. And one of those things is a safe space, where doing no harm to self & others: Every man can be a selfish arrogant bastard. And every woman can be an entitled spoilt bitch.

This is definitely "that space" for latter of the above.

Sensuality weaponized!
I'm standing back & keeping well out of the way!

Snoes

This is total perfection. A scent so beautiful only made once in a lifetime. Period.
Big mistake and a shame to mankind of even thinking of discontinuing this queen of scents.
I am so glad it s on the market again and I also still have a full bottle off the italian one to.
I am using mostly the french version from the shiseido group now, also to save the original italian one.
The french version is absolutely a good alternative to the original ... let s say, we don t live in the 90 s anymore , let it be ..... and just be glad it s back! .... slightly different older newer whatever ..... but she s back!

Sirène Cryptique

For the made in France EDT ~

This eau de toilette has more potency than most of my eau de parfum concentrations. Impressive.

Dolce & Gabbana, for me, is the ultimate old Hollywood bombshell fragrance. Immaculate, classic silver screen beauty. The soft voluptuousness of Marilyn Monroe. Rita Hayworth smouldering in Gilda. Ava Gardner lounging in the most sensual silk satin gown. So sexy. So rich & creamy, with some elements of freshness that never take centre stage or become annoying. Such an unusual combination of notes not often (ever?) seen in recent mainstream perfumery… & that always catches my interest. Even though it was love at first sniff for me, it’s a complex scent that takes you on a journey. Some have described it as linear, but that’s not my experience at all. Objectively, I can see why men would love this, both on themselves & others, as it straddles that line perfectly between what people generally think of as feminine / masculine. Having said that, I do not personally perceive this as "masculine". It's a solid film noir femme fatale in my mind. A refined, adult woman. Not a girl. A strong personality. This is a person who knows themselves & never indulges others immaturity. Perfumes like this just aren’t made anymore, except in the niche world. I would say it's not difficult to wear at all, but it has to be for you.

D&gredcap

@adelaidesandrine this was never created as EDP ever….it was always an EDT, PDT or pure parfum which is a truly gem beauty creation in perfumery.

D&gredcap

It’s not back....it’s a ghost of the past ....the new version (made in France and made in Germany) is not even close to the made in Italy by euroitalia, they are using a cheap vanilla replacement, then you get a real cheap version of the perfume and it is a phantom of what it originally was.

sarahmil

It is back. At least in Europe there is no problem buying this.

Annatwill

I adored this scent and was devastated when it was no longer commercially available. It was my signature scent and I felt robbed when it disappeared off the shelves. I was always complimented when I wore it. It was one of those gorgeous scents that still linger so gently in your hair for at least a day later - so soft, feminine and enveloping.
I have since read that it was suddenly regarded as an "old ladies scent" ! Since when??? That is just ridiculous and facile. Something that smells delicious and good, be it freshly ground coffee, newly baked bread, the scent of a rose - a lovely scent is always a pleasure and a joy to whoever is lucky enough to be within its aroma, and can never really go out of fashion. I hate this superficial brushing off of seriously good things in the name of "Fashion"! I have thought so often of writing to "whoever" could bring this gorgeous scent back on the market - not that it would probably make any difference... My understanding is that D&G sold out their manufacturing rights - or whatever - so it is not actually up to them to bring it back.
Please, bring it back, whoever you are, re-bottle it if you think you can appeal to a younger market , but IF it is GOOD and IF it is LOVELY you will find a new market for such a gorgeous scent!!!

StinkyTinky

Breathtaking dry down...but this has a very abrupt beginning. Almost as if you’re a non drinker taking a shot of brown liquor. My eye brows went up and head went back. But let her settle
My gosh the soapy quality of this so unique but yet so familiar. She’s going to get you noticed for sure. You will leave the house with the same insecurity you did in your 20’s when your outfit was pushing the envelope just a little too much. The vibe of this perfume though is actually quite comforting and motherly, in a beautiful way. There’s a solar quality. I smell fresh flowers, cleanliness and sun.
I picture that scene in pretty woman when Julia Robert’s is at the horse race in the brown polka dot dress. This is the perfume she’d be wearing..
Love this

EllenaDsk

This was my mom's favorite and I finally got one Made in France edition, even though I think she had the Made in Italy one. I can't wait to give it to her.

this used to be my signature scent many years ago. then it was reformulated and released. i decided to venture down this path again and upon spraying, it seemed like the good old red top. however upon dry down, i dont remember lily of the valley being prominent in the final stages which are extremely long. it hung around for ages and as i'm not a fan of LOTV , i'm wondering if it was like that the first time around or if i've gotten to loathe LOTV since. needless to say, not too fond of red cap anymore.
longevity and sillage and still enormous. shame about the drydown.

hollymichaelm

My absolute favourite fragrance at the moment. Completely glorious, gorgeous, 90's grunge/glam deliciousness. I love this - it blows all of my modern perfumes out of the water with it's cool elegance. I would be happy if I had to get rid of all of my other fragrances and just wear this for life.

Anamandy

Purchased a 1/2 of a 3.4oz. Made in Italy bottle off the bay. When I initially bought it I thought if I like it I can get a full bottle in the future or maybe purchase one of the reformulations, since they have gotten good reviews too, and most people say the scent is essentially the same even if the performance isn't. But there's no need to waste money on another bottle because the silage and longevity with one spray is so massive that this 1/2 bottle is all I'll ever need, or ever be able to use up, probably for the rest of my life. It is that potent. As to the scent, it is one of the cleanest that I've ever smelled. It brings to mind luxury body products, particularly soap and shampoo, but in a great way. It's floral, spicy, woody, powdery, creamy, and soooo the essence of luxury. Wearing it I feel like I'm in the process of being spoiled rotten at an exclusive posh spa. Just everything I love in a perfume! Even though this is a very rich fragrance there's something about it, that clean element, that brings to mind summer for me. I think it smells fantastic now but imagine it will smell even better on a hot summer night. Can't wait to wear it then.

D&gredcap

Made in Italy is totally different to made in France and made in Germany bottles, they of course have the same vibe as it is the same scent but the MII has monster of silage and last for days, you literally have to rub it off with some soap in order to get rid of it. The MIG and MIF are an ok average silage and you’ll probably have to re apply during the day after a few hours. The boldness of the original MII by euroitalia is an exquisite liquor that changed the perfumery industry in early 90s. There’s a MII version made by P&G which has probably the most resemblance to the original MII by Euroitalia. I was 13 years old when this was released and I could smell it in every party from every girl when we used to go out. It was THE perfume. Probably comparable to what TF did in his early release, although in the 90s you were popular or not ...there was no space for middle brands lol

Dolce & Gabbana is one on a short list, that blew my mind wide open to a future in perfume adoration and analysis. Almost thirty years have passed since that first spray and enchanted eye roll. Despite a necessary reformulation to achieve code standards, and subsequently somewhat deflated, D & G still sings radiantly. Shortly after I summoned the courage to drain the bank of a considerable sum of money, I repurchased this beauty, lovingly referred to as the "Red Top". I reviewed my previous assessment of components listed, and was shocked at how close the new formulation was, considering I based the old on a memory. That is the bewitching nature of this, that one can recall a memory from almost thirty years ago with such accuracy. It is also a testament to the perfumers involved with its re-release. I carefully compared notes, giving pause to sandalwood, lily of the valley, and musk, who have been synthesized for some time now. I still love the coldness of herbal notes and citruses, juxtaposed with the spicy warmness of woods, musk and vanilla. The contrast also continues with the sheer brightness of freesia, jasmine and ivy, against sweet and spicy marigold, carnation, and rose. Up until tonight, I regarded this perfume as a sweater-weather treat, an intrinsic heat captured through the glow of honey peaking past glass. I never even thought of this creation as being aldehydic dominant, let alone composed of so much of that olfactory albatross. Where have I been? As I smell the blotter again and again, I can't help wondering why I didn't detect that before. Plain to see now, I guess that's what they say about hindsight. One thing is for certain in my mind, and that is how dazzling she still is after all this time - how wonderfully she's aged. And how content am I, after finally being reunited with an old friend!

HennaQueen

Oh goodness this is so good. I purchased a NIB bottle, made in Italy. Blind buy, and I am so glad I followed everyone's reviews here. D&G Red Cap smells like my early 20's (this is back in the early 1990's), when hair salons used to be housed in malls. Remember when malls were wonderful places to visit back in the day? Reminiscent of high-end spa shampoos and hair products, hair being dried under diffusers and curled into long locks. This one lasts FOREVER in your hair and on clothes. Will last at least 12 hours on your skin, at least the vintage bottle that I have. This is a new favorite for me!

ELB78

I purchased this many months ago after watching my favorite reviewer Ouch110 on YouTube. He has talked about this one a lot and I’m so surprised by my reaction to this fragrance! This is so far from what I thought I like, and what I seek out. It is very soapy, sharp, powdery and floral. It is STRONG and lasts forever (which I do love in perfume). It gets more creamy in the dry down. I find this to be so beautiful and heavenly. I sniff the cap/sprayer of this more than anything in my collection and it makes my eyes roll back every time. So glad I have it.

lynnie131

I managed to get 2 bottles of the vintage, made in Italy. I used to wear this so many years ago, it’s like revisiting an old friend. It is spicy, powdery, and for an EDT it’s a beast in longevity and sillage. Much more than a lot of modern EDP! Fell in love with this all over again.

HunnyBunnyDream

So this scent and I have taken a journey. I went from disliking it, to really enjoying it.

My initial impression is that Its not quite meeting up to my high expectations. I didn't get any adelhydes. Its soapy fresh but where's the spicyness? Where are the Flowers? It's a Mostly powder drydown that smells like 90's Aquanet hairspray. So its a bit like aerosol and powder on the drydown. This can't be what everyone is raving about. I'm convinced I need to try a different sample.

After letting the bottle sit for a bit, I've sprayed this on my furniture and it smells really nice on it. (✿◠‿◠) I reapplied it after getting moisturized and it smells so beautiful. Its a refreshing drink meeting a warm meal, I can't really make out the 'flavours' / depthness yet. I wish I could make out the spicyness.

Currently:
I wore this in Puerto Rico and this is where we became close friends.
Sexy, fresh, ethereal while also being a bit warm.
This is now one of my go to's for late night showers because it's the freshness and warmth I'm looking for! The warmth isn't heavy and the cleanness of it is spot on for evening showers. Its doing very well in humid and warm temperatures.

PurrParfumFan

I recently purchased a designer impression of this fragrance from perfumeoils.com

Has anyone smelled their formulation whom can actually verify whether or not this resembles the original?

Message me please💙

Hiroac

I got this perfume yesterday ,I’ve smelled it on other people remembered it smelled great back then however I dunno I’m unable to connect with it! Is just like it lingers on me without making an statement and merging with my skin I dunno 🤷🏽♀️ maybe I should return it maybe should try it in spring fall ,maybe I dunno whatever.

Lalunalynn

This was my signature for years. I absolutely loved it back in the 90s. Back then perfumes were bolder, room fillers, and this was a beast in such a good way. Literally one squirt was enough to last 24 hours! The longevity was massive! I don't smell any notes when I sniff this, I just smell D&G. I can't pick anything out, it's just an aroma that is unique to itself, no top, middle or bottom notes, just the same smell from start finish, it just gets softer and more divine by the hour. There's nothing like it. I met my husband when this was my sig, and he always says how this was his very favourite. This is also the scent that gave me the most compliments. This and Casmir. People would always ask what I was wearing with those two. I love this perfume. The nostalgia is intense when I sniff it. Even though it isn't quite the same juice now, it's close enough to provoke some great memories from the crazy clubbing days of my 20s. And I see that this perfume reminds people of Zanzibar, which is mad because this perfume literally reminds me of the nightclub Zanzibar that I frequented back in the days I wore it! 🥰

RubyMe

One of the sexiest perfumes put there

debi72

This scent is like an old friend and I felt a real loss when it was discontinued. I absolutely loved it and haven't found a replacement even after all these years, some have come close but none can match the sexiness and power of this wonderful creation. I recently contacted Shiseido and they may be releasing it again this year! fingers crossed they do and that it is the original formulation.

Kanutten

I had this in the nineties and I have to admit I can't really remember to well how the old version smelled. This (produced in Germany) does however, smell really familiar, so it's probably not THAT different from the old one. It's a decent / good reformulation, unlike many others.

It's nice, clean, easy to wear and well blended. Very soapy, which I like. If you like soapy fragrances and like or don't mind a bit of aldehydes (quite prominent note here), it's a pretty safe blind buy.
Feminine, leaning unisex due to the soapiness. A man can easily wear this.
Strong like.

Edit: It lasted so long on my skin (until into the next day) that it hit boredom levels, I guess due to the aldehydes. It was still very present in the bathroom as well the next day after 1 or 2 sprays only. Believe this is the newest reformulation, and I must say it has the longevity worthy of a nineties perfume. For sensitive noses go easy on the application:)

MsLittlejohn

This fragrance is a BEAST! In the best possible way. I love it! I have two bottles of the original, and of all of my perfumes, this is the only bottle that's literally a one-spray-in-the-air and walk through type of scent. You will still smell it on your skin in the morning! It's aldehydes, soapy and expensive smelling. One bottle will last a lifetime! For that reason, I'm putting one of mine up for trade. Share this masterpiece! 😉

The scent of a woman. Brunette, blonde, redhead, gray. Woman by a big W. Her satin-smooth body is washed expensive soap and all that process has happened in a small retro bath. This bath relaxes her senses and her soul. After bath she sprinkles her favourite ´´red cap´´ perfumes, puts slightly transparent lingering and vibrant red, tight dress. She wears black high heels overlooks the bustling street of Castelfranco Veneto. The wind blows her hair, and the subtle gazes of the passing men give her confidence. This is a woman who is satisfied with her life and satisfied with herself. Her confidence is something to envy her, but at the same time, she doesn´t keep her nose up to the sky. She has the experience, she is sexy, full of eroticism, but what attracts in her is also her intelligence, she is not afraid to express her opinion, which is why she is so fascinating.

This fragrance is made with great attention to quality even I only smell here soapy musc with mild, not aggressive aldehydes. Other ingredients are too weakly marked, they do not want to reveal themselves on my skin. Nevertheless, the composition is smooth, soft, and pugnacious ( yes, it's not that kitty type you think). It is like a passionate kiss that leaves the aftertaste of the mouth for a long time and makes you want more. Hot red bursting like blood interspersed with the subtle white of washed skin. Lust and innocence. Brightness and darkness where you can feel gentle kisses on the naked body. This fragrance is intriguing and although for me it is quite simple and I don´t find myself here I appreciate this fragrance a lot. There is no love between us, but I respect the brand for creating a fragrance that illustrates admiration for a woman so well.

Vardin

I miss the original version so much!!😭😭 (The Italian off course).
The new version (made in France) is not the same, some depth is missing and it's no longer the room filler it used to be, not even close!

Still smells great, but longevity and sillage are so poor on me whereas the Italian version stayed with me for more than 12 hours and projection was enormous😭😭

The perfume that started my obsession with perfumery.
My love affair with this gem goes back all the way to the late 90s when I was merely 8 or 9 at the time. My family had just started seeing this rich, sophisticated and refined-tasted woman who lived abroad and had a son who owned a perfume store in London. She always smelled of D&G Red. She was a smoker so the cigarette smoke dampened the soapiness aspects of the fragrance and enhanced the magical ambery/floral/vanillic/musky base. Her entire house smelled like Red when we went to visit her. When she came to visit us, I could smell her perfume trail all the way to the second floor. She also had an arts and crafts hobby where she’d make really pretty gift baskets and gift them to her friends. One day, she sent my mom a gift bag and sprayed the inside of the bag with Red. It smelled like heaven to me. I remember clutching the paper bag wherever I went and taking whiffs of it every now and then to enjoy its magic. Sadly, I never got to know what perfume she actually wore and we have largely lost touch with the woman. Many years later in my early to mid 20s I’d spend hours on this site trying to find this elusive sent that captivated me as a child. This perfume (along with By Man by D&G which was gifted to me by the same lady) is responsible for my interest in perfumery. Many hours, and a dozen of decants later, my sister actually remembered what the perfume bottle looked like and she told me it was a dolce&gabbana bottle with a red cap. Purchased the 4ml mini sample off ebay first, and it barely resembled how I remember it smelling like. It was just too soapy and clean. Not at all the dark, musky, strong woman scent I remember it to be. Fast forward a couple of years later and I recently found a used, reasonably-priced bottle with a 2001 batch code being sold on eBay. Maybe it’s the age, but this particular bottle has the gorgeous base I came to enjoy from the scent. The aldehydic soapiness is still there, but It’s dialed down a bit compared to the 4ml mini bottle. I also found that the trick is to smell the scent cloud rather than stick your nose towards on your wrist to get whiffs of that base.

Beautiful scent with amazing longevity. The vibe of the scent is most suitable for women with an edge imo. Feminine in style but has an Animus quality to her. Think Catherine Tramell in Basic Instinct or Samantha Jones in Sex And The City. 10/10 for the dry-down. So happy I finally found it.

Alex1984

The famous Red Cap!
Reading reviews, and people commenting on its bright aldehydes, I was curious but never really looked for it.
But a month ago I found on a French site a sealed bottle of the original, with a 1991 batch code.
Price was good, I love aldehydes and Italian bombastic-ness so I jumped right in.

Now, I have to say that while I love it, I don’t find it the aldehyde bomb it’s made to be.
Maybe I’m so used to them in vintage jewels like Calèche, Rive Gauche or Chanel N°5, that they strike me here as effervescent bubbles ready to pop.
The jewel here is the creamy, languorous drydown that follows the spicy floral heart.
Yeah, the aldehydes brighten and lift, giving volume and texture to the other notes. But what shines is a spicy carnation, big as a 1980’s Teatro Alla Scala, softened by jasmine and lily, and made even more fiery by a wonderful coriander (why isn’t coriander used more often??) note and a pinch of basil.

The notes dance with each other, and it’s hard to pinpoint them. There’s artistry in the blending, and as a whole I can see why it’s so hot tempered. It’s exotic, erotic, sensual and big, just like perfumes used to be.
The florals take a more oriental turn as the drydown approaches, and the vanilla/sandalwood combo reminds me slightly of what the future Addict would employ in its own basenotes.

I love it. And I can see why everyone misses it. There’s a slight hairspray feel to it which I love, but more of a boudoir scent, not richly coiffed hair. The woman (or man) using it, is ready to take the world by the balls and make it their own.
If only D&G had stayed on that route...of real perfume that is.
Sillage/longevity; from Rome to Milan, all the way through the Italian countryside.

hollymichaelm

@blue_lilac nailed it - this smells like walking in to a bank, like clean money. I like it a lot, very vintage in the opening, very grown. The dry down is classic movie star, sexy woman who plays by her own rules being driven in a classic car. This is an independent woman fragrance - not silly or girly, free spirited and powerful. I love it. I describe aldehydes as space-alien laundry -
Distinctly 90’s - it’s modern for an aldehyde. Love this - stunning. 10/10z

Brook of God

Umm, seen it's definitely more of women's, but especially as the bottle doesn't state it, do y'all think men can wear it?

Mc1995

Lovely aldehylic yellow/orange/red floral and sandalwood. A bit soapy and clean, a tad unisex. Not super sweet and not super earthy, right in the middle, while still being glamorous

drugstore classics

My previous review still stands, but today I have the 'real' Dolce&Gabbana in hand, not the dupe I was so pleased to find.

The dupe I have is indeed excellent, a very close copy. I am not sorry to have it! But like many oils it lacks a top note.

Nevertheless, D&G's opening citrus and tuberose medley took me by surprise. This opening lasts only about 2 minutes, but OH is it charming. :) The tuberose makes this seem more a fragrance of it's era, but so rapidly it becomes something totally unique and suitable for a hot Italian summer. I don't think you can go wrong as a Marigold lover to get either the 'real' or the dupe: they are both fantastic and amazing. This marigold powder dry down is one of the freshest and least boring skin scents you can possible imagine for a true lover of Marigold.

Having been gifted such a treasure makes it a very special month. Truly a red letter day for this fragrance fan!

SailorV

Absolutely beautiful!
I'm not a vintage perfume person, as a general rule I like scents from the 90s and newer. This is from the 90s, but has some notes that were at their most popular long before that, namely aldehydes and carnation. Out of all the currently unpopular notes, these are the two that I would love to smell more often in modern perfumery, but I was still a little wary because don't always love them in older scents. Unnecessarily so! Together with the warm base of this fragrance, they smell timeless and not dated at all.

D&G opens with a burst of soapy, bubbly, fizzy aldehydes. After many reviews about this being such a sexy, dramatic diva perfume I was quite surprised by how clean it is. There is a sensual warmth beneath the cleanliness, but nothing animalic or otherwise wild. Just a lot of soothing sandalwood, a hint of vanilla that intensifies in the late drydown, a floral bouquet that mainly consists of carnations, and some aromatic, spicy notes which smell like more than just coriander and basil to me.
So I really think that this can easily be worn daily as a casually chic and elegant scent. I guess it all depends on your own style and perspective, but if you wear red lipstick in your day-to-day life, this won't feel out of place either.
The reviewers who mentioned fluffy clean towels are spot on. I'm sure towels don't really smell different from other fresh laundry, but this fragrance is the texture and feel of a fresh warm towel translated into scent.

My sample is from P&G prestige. I have never tried any older versions, nor do I care to hunt them down as I already love this one.
It's kind of confusing, some say this is discontinued, some say this is back in stores. Despite my version being made in Germany, which is where I live, it has been almost impossible to find here for years. Other D&G fragrances are everywhere, but for this one I had to order a sample from the US. I hope I'll be able to find an affordable bottle from a trustworthy source online. I need this in my life.

fullbottleworthy

This review is for a vintage formulation from the 1990's. Absolutely amazing perfume. I really don't even like aldehydes, carnation, or 90's scents in general but this one is super special. The aldehydes are so different than I smell in many other modern/recent perfumes. These aldehydes are bright yet cozy, and all the other notes sort of blend into the aldehydes to create a really unique experience. Then after a few hours you get that lovely sandalwoody, vanillic drydown that is pretty yummy! There is just something about this scent I find very sexy and empowering, and I feel like a goddess wearing it. The vintage formulation has great longevity and sillage, especially for being an EDT (they don't make them like they used to!). I find that most perfumes in this vein really lost that special "x factor" after sandalwood became so hard to come by (for example Chanel No 5 and Guerlain Samsara) and just are so inferior nowadays, but I haven't tried the current formulation of this one so I can't be sure (although I can guarantee the sandalwood aspect is not the same as it used to be- whether it is terrible or not, I cannot say). All I know is, if you love the scent like I do, get your hands on some of the vintage and you will not regret it!!!

Blue_Lilac

I have the made in Germany P&G Prestige Beaute formulation. When I first tried it, I hated it. I kept getting whiffs of dried urine. I even tried to swap it with someone I met on the forum. Lucky for me the swap fell through. This had been sitting on my vanity for a little over a year when I suddenly developed the urge to open up the box and give it a spray. I love it now. To my nose it smells like money, literally. It smells like cash. Crisp new bills. The fragrance reminds me of entering a bank, and strangely I have always enjoyed the distinctive smell of a bank. This is perfect. No idea what was up with my sense of smell last year.

DieT CroaK

Ooooh! This is a nice one! Let me just say that I fell down the rabbit hole trying to find THE soapy fragrance. D&G Red Cap was suggested. People described it as fresh, fizzy and spicy. I don’t know why but the fizzy drew me in. I went on Ebay and found a 3.4oz bottle of this baby for about $70 which isn’t bad considering it’s nearly impossible to find in U.S. stores. Now, I know that people are claiming that the German formulation (which I have) pales in comparison to the Euroitalia version. From the batch number, I was able to tell that mine was manufactured in September 2012. From what I understand, all perfumes were watered down after 2012 in order to comply with IFRA so I am sure that the Italian versions are stronger. Does that mean that they are superior? Maybe. German formulations are manufactured by Procter & Gamble Prestige Beaute. The newest formulations are coming from France still under P&G so if you’re interested in Red Cap, do your homework and figure out which formulation is going to be best for you. Also, beware of fakes because they are aplenty.

Anyway, I had D&G Light Blue back when it first came out. Funny side note: my best friend set me up on a blind date with a guy and I wore Light Blue that night. I caught a whiff of him mid-date and asked him what he was wearing. It was Light Blue for men. Cute, right?!? We wore the same fragrance on the first date! This has to be fate 🥰 I wish I could wrap up the story by saying we got married and had a Light Blue bottle cake at our wedding but no...He ended up breaking my heart and wasting my time. Certified F boy. That’s probably why I ended up hating that particular fragrance. I chucked my 75% full bottle into the garbage after we broke up. Yeah, I know. Dramatic. Not only that but everywhere I went, I was bound to smell it on someone. I just got sick of it. So, I am already biased against D&G lol. This is like the Matrix, Blue cap will sedate you and blend you with the masses. Red invigorates you and sets you apart from the usual. I really should have gone red! But I feel like nobody talks about Red because Blue is always shoved into the undeserved limelight. I had to do some real digging to even find a mention of this fragrance and how beautiful it is. The YouTube review from Ouch110 was what really sold me. Also, he delves deeply into the reformulation history and breaks down the differences in each one. Okay, Ouch. I will give D&G another chance...

The initial spray of this is SPICY. For a minute, I was like, “Wait! Did I buy the wrong bottle?!?!” The dry down is where this fragrance really takes off. I get that fizzy, sparkly, airy sensation. It truly does smell like warm laundry fresh from the dryer. The basil in this gives it that unexpected bitter, spicy twist that sets it apart from your standard fresh and clean scent. I don’t feel like it’s overpowering which you think it would be from the first spray. It’s soft and bold at the same time. Feminine with a hint of a freshly washed baby. I’m not a girl, not yet a woman type of vibe (I hear Britney Spears is actually a fan of this scent). I really love this! The staying power is pretty good. It’s still detectable after the 5 hour mark but definitely gone by morning. That must be why people prefer the Euroitalia version. BUT... it’s still great! I totally get why people keep coming back to this fragrance after almost 30 years. Sure, it does smell “classic”, aldehydes do that. But there’s something sweet and innocent intertwined at the heart of it also.
Red, you’re the real showstopper here 🤩. I don’t care what anyone says about your Cool Watery, screechy, overhyped Blue little sister. I live in Chicago and as diverse as we are, I can tell you that I have yet to smell anything quite unique as Red Cap on someone. I smell a lot of Gucci, Mugler, Lancome, Juicy Couture, Bath and Body Works and yes, still to this day, Blue Cap. I actually smelled Blue Cap on a woman at work the other day and I have to admit that it smelled pretty good on her. But overall, Red Cap is much cooler and exotic. I feel like it’s finally gaining the hype and recognition it’s always deserved.

Update: As of February 2022, D&G has decided to split from Shiseido and is now planning on revamping/restoring all fragrances back to the Euroitalia quality. Does this mean we can expect to see a revival of Red Cap in its original glory?!? Stay tuned.

D&gredcap

Yes it is being produced but it’s a reformulation that will take you back but the dry out is not exactly the same but quite on point. I own more than 30 bottles of all kind and type of formulation as it is my very favourite fragrance. The last Edition is being produced in France and the previous in Germany both by P&G, I’d say the french one is slightly better unless the bottles of 2011-2015 made in Germany. At the moment is not in official stores and you can only buy it online. In Australia you can get it in stores but not in the UK yet. I have no idea about the US if they are selling it there. I must add that the version of euroitalia made in Italy is a monster of perfume compare to all these new releases from both Germany and France. The Italian version (even I could say the P&G madd in Italy back in early 2000) last forever and has got a great silage. I also own the pure perfume and that is, god knows how I can put this in writing, amazing but it’s too pricey for those who are not a massive fan of this fragance. Do not hesitate to contact me if you need help on this one LOL.

PhattBass

@tandem_4x4
Are you sure? I don't see it anywhere on their website.

tandem_4x4

D&G (or whoever owns the brand) restarted producing it. It now comes in a velour red box, but without a black field for the gold letters.

HollywoodNovaBaby

It’s so beautiful... I’d say it smells like fabric softener but it’s more than that, it’s warm too. I love it .. it really is like fresh hot towels lol

PhattBass

I love this fragrance so much. It's just so damn good. I wore it the other day and my mom said "is that Chanel No. 5?" I was kind of confused that she mistook it for No. 5, but then I realized it's cause of the aldehydes. In that way I guess it does somewhat resemble it, but Red Cap is 100x better. Yep, I said it. This stuff is delicious. It starts off clean and soapy, and then develops into sweet and spicy goodness as the hours go by. I can't believe they discontinued it. I don't understand why. The more I think about it, the more it pisses me off. 😒😢

Alexa2938

my favorite perfume of all the time...nothing compared to this. Sadly that was discontinued...I could buy it for the rest of my life.
I was heartbroken when I couldn`t find it anymore, but my mother gave me Manifesto by Ysl witch resemble with D&G:)

Swedelish

This is perfume with a "P." Vintage Red Cap is a powerhouse if there ever was one. It's beyond beautiful with endless layers of harmoniously blended accords of all kinds.

It's clean & soapy, spicy, woodsy, floral, powdery, citrusy, a touch animalic. How does it pack so much in there and not smell a hot mess? It's perfect, not a hair out of place. It smells like a woman draped in gold jewelry wearing a long slinky black dress sitting on a red velvet tufted stool in the dimly lit grand foyer of her mansion smoking a cigarette with her glove as she waits for her butler to bring her her coat. And red lipstick.

I haven't smelled non vintage Red Cap, but my old bottle is divine. The hubs even commented, said, "ooh that does smell good." Highest praise from him. 😆
After 2 days and a shower I can still smell its powdery, woodsy, slightly sweet drydown on my skin. This stuff is powerful. Not an everyday easy grab by any means, but it's a non negotiable in my collection. There's nothing else like it. Shame D&G doesn't work with aldehydes anymore.

It's not for everyone, but it grows on you with time.
Red Cap is the badass No. 5.

Edit: Correction ; it IS an everyday easy grab if you're like me and you find yourself utterly addicted and can't get enough. Spray less under clothes and it can go with you to the grocery store. Spray on skin and hit your clothes with it and it will follow you around your house all day long. Wear it at the park on a warm day. But don't wear it for a dinner & movie date (unless said date is at home) because, well, nobody's allowed to do such dangerous things right now. When the day DOES come that socializing isn't a crime, wear it! Just adjust how you apply to suit the occasion and you will be glad.

bel.gravia

The 1992 Red cap is the queen. It is one of the weirdest scents I've ever smelled, and I have smelled quite many by now. Balsamic which might sound dark and mysterious is light because the fragrance is aromatic as well. Fresh spicy? Oh yes, but the white flowers soften it. I can feel it is becoming one of my favorites. Right now, my love is Chanel No. 5, another aldehydic floral. However, if Chanel has a Prada L'eau Ambree type of soft oriental powdery ambery base, D&G is wilder, less sophisticated, more like an adventure. This is Italy, bottled. Congratulations, D&G for this marvelous creation, and shame for discontinuing it.
*later on* oh, well, the real dry down is unexpectedly sweet. That's a fragrance! Once applied it's airy, light, greenish floral, then it settles into a powdery, soft, dusty sweetness. Big big love.
My goodness! The dry down smells exactly like the filthy musky vanilla in L'Air de Rien by Miller Harris.

I was able to find an original Euroitalia version of this on Mercari. I've spent every summer since birth visiting family in Italy and as soon as I smelled this all the memories came rushing back to me, I knew I had encountered this scent countless times throughout my life.

Imagine a summer vacation in the Mediterranean, walking past the sides of a home or a laundromat and getting that super fragrant and fresh whiff of clothes in the dryer wafting from the outside vent. It smells both soapey and powdery but in a very warm, classy, and nostalgic way. I 100% agree with the expensive soap/clean hot towels smell mentioned in other reviews.

This is a fresh out of the shower scent in a different way than D&G Light Blue because this is warm and not crisp. They are 2 totally different vibes but quintessential Italian summer vibes nonetheless.

divakitty24

I have this beauty , on bottom of bottle it says made in Monza " Italy " 1.7 ounce , which is {why I had two } I have not spritzed or even smelled the newer version since I had two full bottle , less one as I've used this over a period of " special date nights " . The remaining one is full , so it will last since I now have some blind buys I need to use . I find this " intoxicating " I get the lily right off with a spice mixed with jasmine and a bit of the orange blossom . If the vanilla and musk were any more strong I don't think I'd be as fond , it is the perfect blend of some amazing , yet simple notes . D&G did this one right . I remember this one was a popular choice by many of my friends. It seemed everyone was wearing , yet it was different on all ~ A rare and fitting " beauty "

Never in million years the ‘made in Germany’ by P&G can get close to the Eurotialia version made in Italy ...the Germany version vanishes in 2 hours. The Italian version last sometimes even after showering ..if you have a bottle of a ‘made in Italy’ ....well....get hold of it.....it is by all means the best perfume of the 90s era where everyone will turn around and ask you what were you wearing.

mmmmgood

I used to own it/wear it...and found it surprisingly, unisex. Gave it to my sister...and I think I want it back, no matter the reformulation

samantham-123

Yes, i agree with the reveiwer below; new version is lighter on aldehydes and I reckon the basil, and slightly heavier on the tonka. Its a tad sweeter, but still really really nice.
The exsct same scent only with those differences

GabbieSmithWindley

Original Formula Made In Italy Bottle- Gobsmackingly breathtaking. It smells like freshly laundered hot towels. Anyone ever walk through your neighborhood and smell a neighbor's laundry whilst it's in the dryer? This perfume is like that, mixed with a little animalic and sweet notes to round it all out. Even if you typically do not like aldehydes, I'd still recommend that you check this one out!

FaithHopeLove

I just received a sample of the fragrance yesterday from perfume sample shop on eBay, and I don’t know if I just got a bad sample or what, but this smells horrible! It smells exactly like the hand soap or deodorizer in a public restroom! Not sexy AT ALL! And I really don’t think it’s my chemistry because it smelled exactly the same way on a tissue. It’s not spicy or warm at all—just public restroom soap, and not a good one. Yuck! I can’t imagine any man finding this sexy or any woman wanting to wear this. I’m so disappointed. This was a sample of the EDT. Can anyone tell me if this is really the way it smells or if impossible got a bad sample?

bodnerrachel

It was a huge hit in 1992 when it came out. A really, gorgeous, gorgeous fragrance. Some of my happiest times were scoring a bottle of this for a great price at Filene's Basement or Marshall's in Boston.

colorfulmess

It smells like a lighter, less sweet version of D&G Pour Femme. I feel like this is both a strong vanilla with a clean laundry base. I also can smell the carnation (which I love). I think it's very interesting and doesn't smell like your typical fruity floral at all. I'm enjoying the sample for now; maybe I'll luck out on a good priced FB.

jellybeantree

My last purchase of this fragrance was from Germany . It’s been reformulated again and is now made in France . It’s from the Shiseido group now . It smells good still and the batch code says it was made this year ! So it’s back and I bought it for a reasonable price ! Win win! I love this and will wear it forever .

TexasOrangeBlossom

I used to have a bottle of this gem. When I tried it on at the department store, I was initially turned off. Then, I was outside that evening looking at Christmas lights. I kept catching a magical smell that I was unlike anything I had ever smelled before. When I finally realized it was the perfume I sampled earlier, I was blown away. I had been so put off by it earlier. How could it be so lovely just hours later? Oh, and the lasting power! It was truly a divine scent. I’ve read the creators matured and the new version is a reflection of that. Just in case they are reading this, please revisit your youth! I have the current versions of D&G Pour Femme and the Intense version. The Intense is closer to the original, but it just doesn’t compare. They are both nice, but nothing that stimulates my soul. I don’t find them to be nearly at long lasting either.
Edit: Just got a new bottle. Made in France (I was expecting Germany) in June 2019. It has the same overall smell of the 90’s version, but it doesn’t seem as smooth or long lasting. Still lovely though. Forgive me while I overspray.

Miss1980

This was my signature smell since 1997. It fits me well & people have given me the compliment several times - and when I told them the name of the perfume, they could not believe it, because this perfume is apparently very sensitive to who wears it, and luckily for me, it suits me well.
I've owned probably 4 bottles of this classic. It is a pity that D&G has stopped selling it because I have only a few drops left in my last bottle. But I am sparsely spraying it.

After all these years at Fragrantica, I finally got my hands on a bottle of this beauty. Only - be advised - I have the dupe oil from UniversalPerfumes&Cosmetics (no affiliation). Here is my personal experience:

'Actually, that smells pretty good', commented a picky male recently.

Need I say more? ;)

But I will... briefly! The aromatic nature of classic D&G makes it deliriously refreshing for scorching hot weather. If I were to tour Italy in summer, THIS would be my dearest companion. Somehow it manages to be rather elegant, fresh, womanly, and cozy all at once - which is a stunning feat for any fragrance, in my humble estimation.

Much more than a treat for Marigold Lovers, D&G is so well blended I could live though a long, hot summer with just this bottle. Well... Almost!

One of my absolute favorite things about perfume is its ability to challenge our perceptions of what we *think* we like or don't like from moment to moment and year to year as our tastes evolve. This just happened with me today, with my early 90's bottle of Dolce and Gabbana. It's exactly how I always remember it, but while I used to quite loathe it I now love it...I suddenly just *get* what it's going for. The glorious, airy, powdery aldehydes, the sweet, herbaceous basil, the green and tender ivy, warm sandalwood and softly spicy carnation are all the same, but my perception about them is just completely different ...wonderfully, beautifully so.

I agree with Coffee_Girl in that I don't find it so utterly sexy, except maybe in a "girl next door" way. I don't get anything sharp or masculine, nothing "dirty" or carnal, and it's not really a powerhouse to my nose, either. It's soft, clean, cozy and warm, and quite feminine ...rather lush, but serene. It's potent for sure, but that can be tempered by how much you apply ...though frankly, I feel like applying a *lot*, lol. I really want to just lavish it on and celebrate the fact that I don't have to go on the hunt for a vintage bottle!

This magical experience is why I don't just collect perfumes but truly love them, and have a very difficult time parting with any of them, even when we don't initially get along so well. I'm still waiting and hoping to love Shalimar ...some day.

palebluemoon

the beauty of this perfume will not appear in the top note .. no
the real beauty will be born when settle down.. an eternal beauty that will last for a time you just don’t know when it finish ..
we can see that it has many ingredients but .. it’s all about marigold
she is such a beautiful country girl imagine her hair shines under the sunset even her lashes are blonde .. shy and strong enough
a marigold crown she’s wearing
such perfumes can’t be forgotten.. never
like no other and very unique.. massive sillage and warm
this girl called marigold

Agree with Tia1881. D&G is my sons favourite perfume, he actually thought I was wearing D&G, when it was in fact Narciso Rouge. Initially, I just couldn't see the similarity myself - but the likeness definitely comes through in the dry down. Soo, if you can't get D&G, try NR Rouge :)

Tia1881

This is my all time fave perfume, it killed me that it had been discontinued. And the only reason I am posting my review is because for years I’ve been trying to find a scent similar to it, and I finally have found one that might not be the exact same but it’s so close. Narciso Rodriguez Rouge!!! If you get the chance give it a go there are definitely similarities.

whatsthatsmell205

Love this stuff. I'm not the best at picking out notes, but I find it 100% unisex. If Elizabeth Arden had ever come out with a Red Door Homme, this is what it would smell like.

Upwardstar

I have a new and a vintage Italian version. Italian is so full and deeper, with more layers, stronger and somehow sharper at the same time...and ah! Just so so beautiful! If you have a chance to find made by Euroitalia - take it, no regrets for sure!

annxyz

I purchased a recent issue of this and found it clean and pleasant and very short lived. No longevity in the bottle I ordered . (May 2019 )

hollycat

Really pretty, feminine, and soapy. On me it's mostly vanilla, sandlewood, and carnations. Not really getting the aldehydes and so I wouldn't classify this as a floral aldehyde. I read it as an oriental floral. It's a joyful fun perfume not a serious one. Would work well on a date or even day to day for work because it's easy to understand.

olga_adriana

Soapy and clean? Yes. But also, for me, it's really a sexy and bold fragrance. It's very strong and very aldehydic for me. Very sexy, but not in a skanky way, which is what gives this perfume a unique character for me.

Harrisonpaulie1245

Out of all the Dolce & Gabbana fragrances this is my favorite. It’s one of their best fragrances and I wish it wasn’t so hard to get because it’s really amazing. It’s a very soapy fragrance and I believe that’s brought to you by the aldehydes. I get rose and aldehydes with this fragrance. Honestly so amazing

Coffee_Girl

For whatever reason i don't picture this perfume with the black and white ads of lingerie and half naked people. To my nose, this smells very clean, preppy, sophisticated, and wholesome...it doesn't make me think of "sex" like the ad suggests.

For starters the spice is real, i can smell the basil strongly...along with aldehydes, carnation and sandalwood. This is very Italian and i love it, reminds me of billowing white dresses and the Mediterranean coast during sunset. I don't get "sexy" out of this, perhaps i need to just wear it more.

Tesse77

I had this many years ago, so sad they stop making this. Warm and sopisticated

Konga5000

Scored a vintage bottle. Excellent opening, nice development . You can sense individual notes, etc. ALAS- only lasted an hour on me. (Sad face here). I can only IMAGINE how weak the new version is.

NoelleNice

I love ‘soapy’ clean fragrances, so after someone described this, on a thread I was following, as something such as “expensive Italian soap and freshly laundered bath robes” I had to try it. I’ve since been thoroughly enjoying a sample of it, and can confirm, it smells exactly as that Fragrantica Member described. It is such a happy find for me, as for various reasons I have previously avoided D&G fragrances. It’s clean, spicy, and aldehydic. There is something a little dated for me about it that I don’t know that I’d want to project onto family and friends, but I love it just for me. I enjoy wearing this around the home - especially after a warm shower, in fresh pyjamas in the evening. I think however it would be classy on the right person for an evening event or outing. Overall it is really lovely and sophisticated for the right lady. I think whomever wears this would smell “expensive”. That lady just might not be me.

Kitten fur and purrs

Beautiful fragrance. I have not owned it since 2006 and I found it online. It's still in production but not sold in stores. It's still the soapy dreamy scent I remember. Very classy, but also wearable with jeans and a tshirt. It's going back into regular rotation for sure!

A Reflection of the Heart

My favorite perfume ever. I love everything about it, including the bottle design. So bummed that it's discontinued. Enjoyed the last bit I still had and then explored the perfume counters to see what else I might like that ding some of the same bells for me.

Update: Happy to see it back on the market and I bought it. Still just as beautiul!

Selena

How have I not yet reviewed this???
This thing is powerhouse in a bottle, powerhouse maybe because I have the vintage formula? Can't imagine what the reformulation smells like nowadays...
I love how simple but eye catching the bottle is, the juice in my bottle is slightly orange,
When I spray this glorious perfume I go easy with application 2 sprays at most ;)
In the beginning it's very sharp, you may not like it, but give this time to settle & work its magic on you. I promise you won't be disappointed.
I've had this on for 5 hours now, and I catch whiffs of soapy goodness, it's very different.
You can wake up, have your morning shower & spray this on, it'll stick with you through out the whole day, but like I said go easy with application.
I do think more than 3 sprays will choke those around you.
But 1 or 2 spritz will have people asking "what perfume is that".
I'm giving this a solid 10/10.
Scent wise and performance wise it's a beast.❤️

Annabear

My bottle has code 213316 on the underside and is stamped Made in Italy, I picked it up at an auction with a few other fragrances. I think it’s probably from 2002 but who would know, especially since the codes are repeated every 10 years. I guess it could be anywhere between 1992 and 2012. Judging by the other fragrances that were included in the collection, I am thinking earlier rather than later.
I don’t have any other D&G fragrances other than Sicily, so I am not really familiar with this brand. The opening notes are like being smacked in the face with a wet towel that’s been lathered up with Castile soap. It’s got the soapiest cleanest, verging on powdery aldehydes of any frag I have encountered.
I have about half of a 100 ml bottle and I am so intrigued by it I am wearing it for myself at home so I can experience it properly. I have to say, I really like it but am restraining myself from going down the vintage rabbit hole and trying to find more...

dglightblue

beloved D&G this is amazing on other people, i loved smelling it, on me im not great with aldehydes - some but its not a give in.
well, 'designer brands' does a similar inspired one and its not bad at all. packaging mirrors the original

chloeinsummer

I wore this a lot about ten years ago. This is a super sexy smell.. very bold and warm. I used to slather myself in the matching bodylotion and then wear the perfume as well. I miss this fragrance a bit so i’m going to pick up a bottle soon!

Blushpinkpeonies

A true masterpiece, a classic icon. Everyone should smell "red cap" Dolce & Gabbana. It's sexy, bold, mature, unique. I promise you, there's not much else that smells like it.

Really really love This one❤️ So full of soapy, warmth and vamp. Sexy woman in a bottle. Just bought This one again. Loved it for so many years...the love is for life.
So aldehydic, so sexy at the same time... what a combo. Lasts for eternity and everyone thats in The room can also enjoy The perfume.

Marianora67

I only wear this on selected occasions as I want it to last as it was my wedding perfume 24 years ago!
Looking back I wonder why I chose this and not something more floral with white flowers! But I am glad I chose this! I remember being at Myer when I bought it and the assistant telling me that it had natural ingredients and it was Dolce &Gabbanas first frag! I'm not sure if that's true!
I feel that it is very unique and different to many other fragrances I know! It really does have a play on sweet /sour, feminine and masculine! Qualities!
The marigolds remind me of my lovely Granny! And I had Ivy in my bouquet! All these things I've just recently discovered!from Fragrantica!
I purchased my bottle two years ago! Before they reintroduced it on the market!after being discontinued! Not sure if it is made in Italy! But it is a dead ringer to the one I remember from all those years ago!
This will always have a special place in my heart.

mschnabel666

JRKD70- According to that batch code it's 2009, but then again, the codes are re-used every 10 years. So it could be 1999 too.

From the Made in Italy, I'm thinking it's the original formula?

Does it mention Proctor & Gamble? P & G seem to be made in Germany.

Jrkd70

Could someone tell me how to determine the age of a bottle of this? It is the red cap and comes with the box. The bottom says 'Made in Italy', stamped 907506, and the front of the box has the oz's stamped. No photo of the back of the box. Any info/advice greatly appreciated!

The.notorious.n.a.p.p.e.r

I'm going to be short and sweet:
Sex in a bottle - I turn myself on wearing this! X

samantham-123

Ok so i bought a full bottle of the new p&g version, its exactly the same only lighter, the soapy powderyness is missing, which may work for some who find that quality to be overwhelming, but i feel that as nice as it is its just missing that..oomph! that the original has.
Also, theres a lot more tonka bean in this one.
So i looked on my favorite online scent store and they have the original, it costed me double what i paid for the new version ( which itself wasnt cheap) but i dont care; this is true love right here.
Ive actually put some of my existing fragrances up for sale and filtered down my collection since i feel like apart from a handful of my favourite ones; everything else seems somewhat inferior to this. Ive worn it nearly everyday for two weeks, and that is rare for me as i pretty much wear a different fragrance everyday.
Ive been trying to ration my little 2ml mini of the original which isn't hard, since a tiny spray lasts nearly all day.
The newer version still lasts a long time, it just isnt anywhere near as intense.
At about 7pm I did a side by side comparison experiment and put one small spray of the edp on my left hand and a heavy spray of the edt on my right; and i woke up in the early hours of the morning with my left hand still smelling heavily of the few drops i put on, while the spray on my right was very very faint.

If you cant find the origional pafum de toilette anywhere, or you haven't smelled it yet then the edt version will suffice; but after trying the old version first, i just new i had to get a bottle. Im sure I'll go through both though; ill use the edt to touch up if needed through the day.

Update: Ive officially made this my signature, the search, the great SEARCH for THE one is over!
i still love a lot of my existing scents, but i cannote seem to get enough of this and I'm still wearing it everyday so im happy to call this my signature fragrance. It's nice to still have other fragrances there for certain occasions or when i just want to mix it up a bit, but this is my new love

mschnabel666

After spending time with this I have to add:

My 2nd day (48 hours) tissue test smells amazing. Soft ambery powdery vanilla sandalwood-- like mixing the final drydowns of Shalimar and L'Heure Bleue.

I previously said this had no similarity to L'HB, but I take that back. L'HB smells "old" as in vintage/victorian (which is not a bad thing, it's the reason I love vintage perfume) and is primarily powdery to me. However, I do get the same idea of L'HB in the very very late drydown of D&G.

I wore this to work today, it's gonna be a HOT humid day. But I needed a tenacious perfume that comforts me and helps me thru a long, busy work day. This is it! This more than a perfume, it's an essence. It melts into me and radiates. There is a freshness, and yet a feminine powder. Perfection.

mschnabel666

I'm so late to this party, but I got two bottles of the vintage "Made in Italy" off ebay for great prices (both sealed in velvet boxes)! One is probably a 1995 bottle with "Fl Oz" on the box, and less ingredients printed on the box. The 2nd bottle has "FL OZ" on the box, more ingredients. The 1995 is stronger, but not by much. Also could be the age. The 1995 had a bit of evaporation which can make a scent thicker and more syrupy.

This was a blind buy for me, but I adore vintage scents and I love aldehydes. Truthfully tho, I had no clue what to expect.

Both bottles had some evaporation and/or leakage so I could SMELL them without spraying. And that is an odd smell. And not a good smell. It's very cheap disinfectant/public bathroom cleaner. Strong and chemical like COMET powder cleaner. Who would want to smell like this? It's soooooo harsh, cloying and SOAPY?! WTF?! I like soapy but this is EXTREME!

But... hey now... This must be misted on skin. Not applied in heavy layers on the same skin area. Not on fabric. When worn on fabric or heavily sprayed on the same skin area-- it stays linear and cloying-- that harsh chemical soap. But misted right on skin-- MAGIC! Let it melt into you and radiate with movement/body heat/wind.

My skin is oily by genetics, but DRY and pale by climate. And it was a sunny breezy summer Michigan day. Not hot, but not cold. A hoodie day!

I did about 5 sprays on my bare chest/arms and then dressed. At first I only got the soap and felt like my bottle could be fake/turned because it wasn't NUCLEAR yet.

In the clean sharp aldehydes are POPS of scent. It's very layered and changes. I didn't really get an open/middle/base but more POPs of scent. While I washed dishes I got citrus and sweet. My skin radiated a SWEET creamy powdery smell. My shirt gave off the soap/aldehydes. I got some animalic musk too.

Sweet and bitter indeed! Bitter sharp soap, but some kind of creamy WARM sweet powder. Citrus thrown in. The herbs make the aldehydes very "nose hair burning", and the spices are just hints here and there.

What a strange and wonderful perfume! You can smell the quality because it needs SKIN and chemistry and body heat to change and develop. This only smells dated in the fact that you must have smelled it somewhere in the last 25 years. This smells like a mature woman because those women have been wearing it as a signature for 25 years. And of course, it's nothing like today's perfume. You also never smell this kind of quality anymore, except maybe for Mugler.

I find this nothing like L'Heure Bleue or Chanel No. 5. This isn't overly WOMANLY, but it's unique. Are you clean? Or skanky? Soapy or sweet? It doesn't really develop on me to be one gender or the other. I do feel however, that this perfume wears ME-- it's not 100% my style/vibe, nor do I feel it's a good match for my chemistry. But I still like it. It's fun to wear!

Not much shirt scent left the next morning which is OK by me. Sometimes a perfume lasts thru a washing, or clings to a sweater/jacket you may not wash every time you wear. I like a strong perfume- believe that- but I also like a fresh start after I wash something. I have over 300 perfumes... haha.... I certainly don't want to wear the same one every time I wear a certain outfit. ;) (I'm looking at you Dior Addict and Alien Essence Absolue)

The 2nd day of a tissue test-- clean/soap/powder but musky SKIN. It smells soapy still but this warm powdery musk. Nice. Very light 2nd day tissue smell. Overall, yes- this is potent, but when worn correctly- it can be perfect! It also doesn't have to be cloying or offensive. I find Classique EDT to be WAY more out there/strong/soapy/powder on steroids. (In the spirit of the 90s, I wore Classique EDP to work today, haha)

samantham-123

I can't believe how quickly i fell in love with this!

How can such a masculine combination of notes create something so unbelievably feminine?!

This is really lovely.

I originally wanted Sicily because the notes and reviews made it sound so amazing, but i ordered a 2ml sample and yes, it was very nice but i just couldn't justify paying through the nose for it. So i thought ide give red cap a try, but given that it seems so polarizing and many have warned against blind buying it, i again got a 2ml sample, and from the first sniff i was in love. Clearly, this is the D&G for me.

I have actually been wanting a to finally get a bottle of chanel no5 because i have always adored it but didnt think i was ready to wear it, now i feel like im finally at the point in my life were i am ready for a strong, classic feminine fragrance, but i actually gave the old chanel a pass and went online and ordered a bottle of D&G redcap, im assuming its the re released version as it was reasonably priced, but even the pre reformulated version is better priced than chanel so im glad i like this one lol.

Onto the scent itself,
I was weary, anticipating a very overwhelming dusty soapy powderbomb. But what I got was a beautiful sparkly aldehyde and citrus opening that soon became a warm sweet floral boquet that i cant really define into individual notes as it was so incredibly smooth. I could actually pick up the basil but it was just enough to give it a slight green sweetness; i have never smelled basil in perfume before but it was suprisingly light and fresh. Yes there was a little soapyness to it but not as much as i was expecting going by other reviews, to me its more powdery, but in a ...i cant really explain; like, an ulta high end make up powder, and sort of creamy at the same time. I dunno, its hard to explain so I'll just emphasize that it is truly beautiful.
Like Sicily, dolce and Gabbana have managed to make a classic smelling fragrance for modern women. It has all the beauty and unique class of a vintage scent, but with a light, youthful freshness. I despise the term " granny smell", i think anyone should wear what they love regardless of age.

The final drydown has lasted about 5 hours and still going strong, which is now a warm, slightly smoky, slightly sweet musky skinscent, i did spray very lightly so i think if i went heavier on this ide get a good day out of it at least.

Body chemistry must be of great importance when wearing this, as some have said its a soapy mess, other reveiwers have said it gives them headaches and then others just can't get enough of it. Im with the latter; i rarely react to a fragrance the way i did with this, from the first sniff i couldnt stop breathing it in and thinking " omg thats goooood!"

Im glad i gave it a chance because the notes listed are not what i would usually go for, but sometimes you just surprise yourself.
I dont quite understand the marketing with the new pour femme; d&g saying that theyve grown a lot since the 90's and its not so much a new fragrance, as it is fine tuning...
theyre two different scents, straight out opposites. And while i do like the new one ( i didnt at first but that's a story fpr another day) i think they've just found a niche market with the powdery sugar scents that are trending atm and didnt really put much thought or feeling into it at all.
But the original really is something special and i really hope with its re release; it will urge other fragrance houses to go back to their roots and bring out more classic scents, rather than all the patchouli/ praline combos and fruity sugar bombs that are in our faces lately.

alexisx

Reformulated:
the fragrance is still pleasant, still presents many nuances that reproduce and enhance the contrasts of the Mediterranean.
Play on the slightly virile tone, infused with force, an unusual touch of bitter and masculine in a concentrate of floral delicacy is still present.
Sharp and delicate, bitter and sweet, it opens up with intense and decisive notes of aldehydes, sandalwood and red carnation that fade into the more delicate heart notes of orange blossom, jasmine, vanilla, and especially calendula. In closing you can feel an enveloping touch of lily of the valley, red rose, jasmine and freesia. longevity and sillage are lower than the 1992 edition.

If I had to grab one thing from my house and run this would be it. No scent ever has made me feel the urge to cry before... until I smelled this. A lot of people tell me that I'm too young to wear this but (excuse my french) I don't give a fudge. Like someone said previously, this is not for the faint of heart. This scent is unforgettable and It will touch memories <3. I am not an aldehyde type of girl but wow these project flawlessly. Thanks D&G I am so happy to call this bottle mine.

Ana Pavao

such a classy sexy fragrance I had the honor to wear when it was launched in the 90's, the sexiest 90's .... powdery aldehydic and very feminine! good memories, but it remains there in the past for me.

justfloral

It reminds me of lotus joss stick. Soapy and strong, very indic scent. Good

lena.tselika

Smells like my dolls, reminds me of my childhood...pls bring it back!! love it

karanpatade

For me there are fragrances that smell great and those that smell great and lift my spirits. This fits in the latter (along with Diptyque's DoSon).
It's that gorgeous!

It reminds me of a soap we have in India called Mysore Sandalwood soap - of course it's because of the sandalwood.

But that's not bad at all.
What makes this fragrance so gorgeous is what the aldehydes do to it. They make this fragrance sparkle, give it a very clean and airy feel.

It is soft, yet strong.
Very smooth, well rounded and warm smelling sandalwood.
Sparkling, cleaning smelling, due to the aldehydes
A great mood booster!

I want to wear this everywhere but just because of how potent it is, I have to be careful. I oversprayed this once and distracted my cab driver a great bit.

Love love love this D&G!

savageinstrangeland

Oh, D&G... let me count the ways I love thee:

1.) Fresh, sparkly, mood boosting aldehydes mingle with smooth creamy sandalwood, freesia, marigolds and fragrant, herbal basil. Coriander sneaks in to spice things up and the result is a addictive, intoxicating, rich and classy fragrance. It gets a bit soapy and creamy after a couple hours... in a GOOD way. I would definitely agree with other reviewers that this could be a modern 90's cousin to Chanel No 5. You probably won't really see the resemblance until the deep dry down though. That's when I start to notice it.

2.) Yes. It's been reformulated. But who could tell if it weren't for the minor differences of details worded on the packaging? Not I. The only difference I could detect IF I'm REALLY looking for a difference is, the aldehydes seem to really stick around in the recent formulation. They were the tiniest bit softer and less persistent into the dry down of the original. For me this is a very positive alteration, not a negative!

3.) D&G has to be the BEST performing EDT in fragrance history. I'm in no way, shape, or form exaggerating. This stuff is potent and it LASTS on skin and clothes. On skin it will stay until I shower and that's a ditto with clothing. If you don't wash your coat for a week, you'll smell like D&G for a week. Silage is 10/10.

4.) Versatile. This can be worn in spring, summer, fall, or winter. No matter when or where you wear this, people will take notice. It seems to draw a lot of inquiries.

5.) Perhaps the best point of all: ITS BACK! D&G listened to its loyal consumers and brought this beauty back onto the market! If only they'd do the same with Sicily!

Note: I bought my 3.3 oz bottle from FragranceX for around 60$. It's the Made In Germany "P&G Prestige Beaute" Batch: 6139. I had a TERRIBLE time with the sprayer when I first got it. I was about to give up on trying to get it to spray and just Email FragranceX and tell them the bottle was defective, when my husband pumped it a few more times and suddenly it finally began spraying normally. So, FYI, you may have to REALLY pump these new bottles to get the fragrance up the atomizer. Most new fragrance bottles need a few pumps, but this one literally needed like 50+ tries before it actually sprayed. Pissed me right off, but It's been fine since.

LittleYsatis

Amazing, beautiful, perfectly balanced fragrance. I've just got my sample and I am inspired and completely in love

Lilacs&Lavender

Please please please D&G, bring this back. It's too good to retire. Earthy from the base notes, spicy with carnation yet uplifted by the jasmine and citrus. Perfectly blended. Should I stock up? PS: very unisex, so I'd love this on a man.

Waltzing Matilda

As an oriental lover I didn't think I'd be so enamoured with this one. Vintage parfum de toilette is very long lasting with superior silage. A spicy aromatic white floral that certainly goes the distance. What a shame it's been discontinued!

I helped to find an Wedding day perfume for my friend....And this was it....Very classy.

marina.corradini

I love it. I really do. I have 3 bottles of "Made in Italy" version.
But recently I received a comment from someone innocent, that "it smells just like soap in a public toilet".
Hmmm... I cannot unsee it now :)

mamehaviolette

So I have managed to get my hands on a mini of this one, hoping to test the P&G version. Then I read the writing "made in Italy" on the tiny tiny box, and thought "oh well, that's not tooo bad either". I certaintly didn't expect to test the "vintage" formula.

This is an amazing, very sexy composition and has a very good sillage and projection. It is sultry, spicy, balmy. I can definitely smell the Aldehydes, carnation, sandalwood, basil and other spices. I like it very much, it is already considered quite a retro composition because of the vanilla/patchouli/gourmand trend of the last 2/3 years.

It is indeed something different from today's mainstream perfumery (being 21 and having started to collect scents by 18 I can't really say I have experienced old school perfumery) and I will surely think about saving some money to invest in a big bottle.

I feel like pinning this scent up against the wall and demanding to know, "WHO AAAARE YOU?!"

"WHO AAARE YOUUU?!!?"

Papavero0

For those slightly confused D&G "red cap" fans out there such as myself, the youtube fragrance blogger "ouch110 Fragrance Reviews" published a video in which he explains the differences between these versions (original 90s version, reformulations and P&G "Made in Germany" re-release). That honestly helped me a great deal.

Papavero0

I was curious to see what users report on the new "made in Germany" P&G version. I have the vintage original one and the new version (2 bottle of the old vintage and 2 bottle of the new, all 4 bought from different places) so I guess you call that a good test. There is a difference between the old and the new as one would expect. The old version is much more balmy and sultry, perhaps better projection (it radiates), but, interestingly enough, the new version is not bad at all when it comes to longevity. The new version may not have projection, but it does last fairly well. I was somewhat disappointed by the opening of the new one; it's much more "meah", harsh, sweet-ish, airy, dusty and it gives the impression that will not last, but it does. It's weird. So, bottom line: the experience of the new one is different (no creaminess, incandescence, balmy-ness), but...it does deliver a bit of the original for us nostalgics out there that just couldn't let this beauty go...If that's of any consolation. I've honestly still didn't decide whether this is satisfactory enough to call it a victory :)

I finally got a small decant of this to try. I can certainly see what all the fuss is about. This is the dustiest aldehyde I've smelled... And I mean that in a good way. It's not sharp or floral to me. It's just soapy and powdery.

The Sandalwood and aldehydes are nearly perfectly in sync, making for a strange duet. When I was in my undergrad program, I was assigned to do a performance with a trombone player. I was a soprano singer. It's sort of like that ensemble. We made it work with songs I composed for the event, and unaccompanied, we worried less about blending, and just emphasized each of our strengths. That is this perfume.

In fact, this is unique enough that I might buy a bottle if I found a great deal and the urge hit me. But it's not a favorite. I feel like this perfume MUST be given the spotlight, and as much as I love creative scents, I don't usually have time to slow down and cater to diva perfumes.

But it's a solid like. I'll finish the decant, and it might well turn into a love. Definitely unique.

Donnachka

If Xmas can be made into a fragrance and placed in a bottle, then this fragrance would be it. It's spicy, and has a strong cinnamon fragrance despite it not being present in the description. It's comforting, and uplifting. However, this fragrance is not for everyone. In fact, I would say that this is a love me or hate me type of fragrance. I don't believe that there is a middle ground for this fragrance. It is a very unique smell, and I haven't smelled anything remotely close to this fragrance. I hope that D&G comes out with something as unique as this fragrance in the future.

Holli

This one is amazing. With the combo of basil, aldehydes and coriander, it kind of bridges the gap between the 80s powerhouses and the 90s airy, semi-earthy scents. Always gets compliments.

briones

opulent , sexy bomb for cold weather.

lisbail

Love this classic, signature fragrance. Always a favorite. Made for special occasions and romantic nights.

If I could only choose ONE scent to wear if stranded on a desert island, it would be this. I'm known by this scent, and was absolutely heartbroken when it was discontinued. I have gotten other bottles of the Germany version, and it's pretty darn close to the old version.

Aldehydes are at the forefront, and I don't notice overt sandalwood, but the carnation springs forth heavily on me, tempered by what I guess is the marigold.

I've never smelled anything like it, and probably never will again. I first smelled it on my sales reps when I hugged her (in the late 90's) and immediately had to know what she was wearing. She was the epitome of beauty and class. I had to smell like that as well.

It's simply stunning, classy and beautiful. I never want to be without it.

It's absolutely my signature scent (although I tend to wear something different every day. But if someone forced me to choose ONE fragrance to wear for the rest of my life, this would be the one!

kingdomforaperfume

The best time to wear this gem is September, it's End of summer AND early autumn- class.

Red Cap, we meet once again. I had this fragrance back in the 90's. It was my first "sexy" scent. It was love at first sniff. Some could have said that it was too mature for a young girl, but I loved it and wore it often. This scent represented my transition into womanhood, into college, becoming an adult, learning about relationships, seeking education and fulfilling dreams. It carried me through all the fleeting moments of happiness, tragedy, hope, and love. I finished the entire bottle. I started experimenting with more fragrances and neglected red cap. When I went to find her again, she was gone. I was devastated- wishing I had a chance to have her in my collection again. I was so thrilled to see that she had returned, but I was very skeptical. The juice inside the bottle was lighter and there were so many fakes around, I just didn't know if it was the real thing. I took a chance and ordered her. Once I took her out of the box, I sniffed and grimaced my face. Who was this imposter! They've ruined her! However, when I wore her on my skin, there she was. She has certainly changed a bit from the years past- not being as heavy and deep, but only so slightly. This new formula is not her cousin, it's her twin sister. Red Cap has returned and I love her so. I am so happy.

Red Cap is a unique scent. I've never smelled anything like it. It is musky and warm and seductive. It does not smell mature to me at all, but I can see how some could say it is for a grown woman (that didn't stop me though). It is beautiful. This is not a scent where I can tell you the notes I detect. It is so well blended that my inexperienced nose cannot differentiate them. I think it is worth a try to experience this juice at least once in life. They brought it back for a reason.

BarefootContessa

Opulent. More for a more mature woman as opposed to a young girl, in my view. Wear this and you'll have everyone looking around to see where the glorious smell is coming from... This was a "blind" buy for me based on reading somewhere that this is President Trump's favorite perfume on a woman - thus Melania wears it. Very late 80's, early 90's smelling, in my view,...so very rich. Buy the parfum de toilette instead of the edt, if you can find it. A little goes a long way. Oh so feminine and confident. "You smell sooooo good."

socorrosouza

Probably one that had turned. It explains the darker colour, it probably lost some notes, but was not wholly turned off. Heat, humidity and light degrade a fragrance quickly, sometimes in 1/2 years (Angel smell alikes are particularly affected,6 months in heat and they partially turn). Store carefully against light and in cooler areas, if you live in humid hot climates the fridge can be a good storage. D &G was discontinued for a while, perhaps the bottle was from before the discontinuation.

annagrig1980

I bought a 100ml tester of the new "made in Germany" version. At first it was terrible. Very different from the old one. I went to sleep very unhappy. When I woke up the next morning, I couldn't beleive it! It was a dreamy amazing perfume just perfect. Identical to the old formula. Almost 20 hours later I can still smell it. I felt in love. P&G??? I don' t mind at all!

ppofsummer

Love this one! It is quite strong for an EDT, very long lasting (12+ hours). I cannot recognise those notes listed. What I can tell is only the very strong citrusy and aldehydic opening, and sandalwood in the dry down. Interestingly I really like wearing it in those hot days. It kind of soothes and calms me down in the hot weather. Every time I spray it, the scent immediately fills the room. My roommate said this was what an elegant and classy boutique shop should smell like...BTW, mine is the new released one. I
