The Only One by Dolce&Gabbana is a Amber Vanilla fragrance for women. The Only One was launched in 2018. Top notes are Violet, Orange and Bergamot; middle notes are Coffee, Pear, Iris, Orange Blossom and Rose; base notes are Caramel, Vanilla and Patchouli.

Dolce & Gabbana presents The Only One as a new variation on the theme of The One, the oriental-floral original from 2006. The Only One comes out at the end of August 2018 as a fragrance that "captures the essence of sophisticated and hypnotizing femininity."

The floriental-gourmand composition plays on opposites: The violet blossom in contrast to the gourmand aroma of coffee gives character to the scent.

Top notes: bergamot, violet
Heart: coffee, iris
Base: patchouli, vanilla

The face of the campaign is actress Emilia Clarke. Dolce & Gabbana The Only One is available as a 30, 50 and 100 ml Eau de Parfum.

Bought this after hearing YouTuber KathleenLights rave about it. This was my first "real" perfume that I bought, and it smells amazing. It is enough for you and nearby people to smell it, but it isn't so overpowering to bother others (IMO). My brother is sensitive to scents and he mentioned that this one does not bother him. I finished the gift set I bought in about 2 years. I went on to buy a different perfume to try something new, but ultimately, I wised that I bought another bottle of D&G's The Only One. Would definitely buy another bottle (unless someone has a more budget friendly dupe).

Chloepeeters

The best way to describe this is as a butter candy. Amped up in a sweeter, floral way. Like Amber Romance by Victoria Secret’s older sister.

afelixir

This to me is a date night perfume, doesn’t last on my skin or clothes for too long, but I have worn it to dates and others can smell it for sure. It’s black opium on steroids. If you enjoy more sweet sexy scents definitely give it a try. I would not say it’s yummy or gourmand but sweet, warm and sexy. Men like this. Lol

Vermeer

Elegant, classy, well blended perfume. Violets and caramel notes. Cosy and sweet but not overwhelmingly so. I can smell the similarity to Black Opium but this is much, much more refined and is the superior of the two, imo. There is a lightness to it that cuts through the powdery caramel, which sets it apart from the dense sweetness of Black Opium et al... This is sexy but understated. Shines in cold weather. Projection rather low and I find I usually respray after a few hours - my only complaint. Lovely, heavy bottle. One of my very favourite fragrances and a definite future repurchase.

sunchild50

I had avoided this fragrance for a while as I hate coffee and also think Black Opium smells cheap and cloying - BUT, I finally smelled it at Duty Free recently and was so surprised. Had to buy it in the Sephora sale the next day.

It starts with the juiciest pear that settles to a creamy, powdery vanilla and iris. And I get no coffee thankfully. After a few hours, the gorgeous caramel becomes prominent and lingers on the skin. My current favourite!

HellyKayden

I wanted to like this so much but on my skin it’s way too powdery. I wish the violet and caramel were stronger on me. In the sample it’s really lovely though so I think it’s just me lol.

taylorcake1

My travel spray is getting used and abused, babes. This smells gooood, good. There’s a dark horse in this fragrance that I love… Violet! What a clever note to add to this beautiful gourmand. It adds some unique intrigue to the perfume right off the bat. The dry down, to me, smells like a sister or cousin to Gold Couture, Black Opium, and Pink Sugar, thanks to the sweet powdery vanilla. I can see a lot of layering options that could work well with this too. I don’t think I could rock this at work during the day, but on an autumn/winter/early spring weekend, date night, brunch, day off? Heck yes!

The lasting power is great; I’d give it 6-8 hours. I sprayed it last night on my clothes and skin. The Only One was there when I woke up, but I had to nuzzle my nose close to my wrist to smell it. On clothes, it’s better but still very soft by 8 hours (for me).

I have a lot of fragrances in my collection that can give me this sweet, sexy vibe and fit this role. So, is it something I plan on buying immediately? No, but it’s definitely on my wish list! 🥰

Pat_Chouli

This is gorgeous, so yummy sweet, but complex and not cloying imo. Smells like walking into a candy factory and taking in the scents of all the different confectionery they're making that day, cotton candy, caramels, citrus hard candies, all mixed together, but make it sophisticated with a bit of powdery florals and yes, wearable!

AnniePruana

Was looking to add a vanilla to my fragrances having only Kayali 28 that I love. Went on the hunt and this was the winner. Lovely vanilla, nothing burnt or spicy, touch of caramel, even less of violet but it is there balancing the sweetness of the sugary scents.

carameg0727

On me, this is a sweet, very powdery violet. I can't detect any coffee or citrus. I don't hate it, it's just ok. It's strong stuff... in the summer, I found it was too sweet and too strong.

SaraSmellsGood

Can’t wait to get this! This in my opinion did what Black Opium the original tried to do! Beautiful enjoyable coffee scent without the “dirty” vibe that you get in BO

Lucky7z

Loving this!!

Only notes I’m getting Vanille, coffee, patchouli, bergamot and a touch of caramel. Everything perfectly blended.

I know this gets compared.black Opium but in my opinion this is sooooo much better!!

Longevity and sillage are both moderate to long lasting…..this one is forever in my perfume rotation and collection🤎

Freakyindia

Oh man, this is one of my all-time fave perfumes. The vanilla in this one is just spot-on, you know? It's not too overpowering, just right. And it's definitely not gonna offend anyone's nose. Wearing this perfume just puts you in a happy, cozy mood. It's like you just wanna give your "SO" a big hug so they can smell how awesome you are too.

Ruthmarie0

Una fragancia gourmand, sexy, cozy. Me encanta. Es dulce pero no tan avanillado, es mas acaramelado. No tiene tanta duración en mi, igual lo amo.

LunaFortuna

It's essentially very similar to Black Opium, especially the now discontinued Black Opium Nuit Blanche flanker. On me, Black Opium doesn't last long at all, but this does. I prefer this one over any Black Opium that I've ever tried because it's longer lasting and projects better on me.

smelling.sniffing.swan

Foul. Lolly snakes. Nauseating. Diabetes inducing.
VERDICT: My pancreas hurts

anamawsity

A light, almost creamy floral. It’s not really for me because I generally don’t enjoy florals, but it doesn’t have that sharp scent that turn me off of most other flowery perfumes so I don’t mind it! The caramel does also come through a bit more after a couple of hours which I like. I personally don’t think it’s very similar to YSL’s Black Opium which is much sharper.

Glassbloc

I really liked this one! It's similar in vibe to Goddess by Burberry but a bit less soft. Although it is definitely still a soft scent! As another user said, it's like a warm hug, and seductive.

ayajolie

i LOVE this perfume more than anything. it smells like a warm hug, but it is also so seductive and spicy. it's so difficult to describe besides PERFECT. this will forever be my signature scent for as long as i am alive

EmiliaF

I just got a sample and I absolutely hate it. I love Black Opium but this fragrance smells completely different. It smells like toilet spray mixed with sweat. I think my sample is either fake or turned bad or my nose is fu**ed. My local perfume shop doesn't have The Only One to test it out and I'm not going to blind buy it either.

gourmx98

sure it smells like a basic designer fragrance but oh my god its SO DELICIOUS. I'm wearing it right now and I can't stop smelling myself! it's super sweet, fruity and a bit creamy

Sammbac

I'm revisiting this. I initially said it was just Black Opium with violets. It is more. It's fruitier, the pear is very pleasing and juicy, the citruses are bright. It's smoother, the coffee is sweeter with a hint of caramel and the violet really elevates it a notch. It isn't overwhelmingly white floral like Black Opium and the coffee is not bitter. I hadn't bought a designer fragrance in a while so I gave this one another go and I'm glad.I love the violet, it is more complex and warmer than Insolence and less gourmand than Choco-Violette so just what I was looking for. Pfft, people who say perfumes smell cheap in the reviews need to get over themselves. If you like a fragrance, wear it.If you don't like it fine, but the ingredients are probably the same cost as the ones in the watered down pretentious brands with fancy packaging and cooler marketing.

jenzel4381

Smells different from the bottle, you gotta spray it to smell the magic. I loved it on paper and loved it even more on my skin. Long lasting too.

deborahmorais

This is too sweet and it smells cheap. I can't stand it. I've been testing it for about 2 weeks now and I'm done. I'm sure it smells lovely on others but I can't stand smelling on myself all day. It smells like a Victoria's Secret body splash. Too sweet, too powdery, flowery. I dont even care about the notes. This could give someone a headache. Definitely a NO for me and and a NO for summer or for indoor spaces.

Luthien999

Oh my...This is a stunning, Elegant Scent! Good Longevity and projection. Perfect for Autumn and Winter, maybe even for a colder Spring.

kittenpawz

The pyramid on this site is highly incorrect and in fact very misleading. According to the Dolce & Gabbana site:

Top notes: bergamot, pear, freesia
Middle notes: violet, coffee, Moroccan iris
Base notes: heliotrope, patchouli, amberwood

No orange, orange blossom, rose, caramel or vanilla. Whoever manages this page should stick to writing fanfiction and do it somewhere else, this is a database that's supposed to be accurate. Moving on to the actual review.

Regrettably I get no coffee at all in this. No vanilla or caramel either since they in the literal sense of the word do not exist in this fragrance. What I do get is that familiar harsh smell of iris, pear and heliotrope that I know all too well from Flowerbomb Dew by Viktor & Rolf and a few others with the same DNA. I generally enjoy D&G as their perfumes smell refined, ladylike and high-end but The Only One is cheap and annoying, and this moniker sounds like mockery, considering that the scent itself is very basic and has been done by so many brands over the years. "Another One" would be more appropriate I believe. It smells like sweetened aftershave in the trail and only if you nearly press your nose against your skin you can smell something nice/alluring/seductive/enjoyable/sweet etc. I detest patchouli but if the overall pyramid looks interesting enough and patchouli isn't high up in the notes I might give it a try. In this case heliotrope completely overwhelms patchouli but both notes are harsh and abrasive so it's not exactly a win. That annoying aftershave smell never goes away because it comes exactly from heliotrope and it's a base note and the key note as well. Sharp and gross mishmash of generic notes. Overall opinion: extremely synthetic heliotrope bomb, which is why it's really outrageous that heliotrope is not listed on Fragrantica after so many years since release.

Perfumer is Violaine Collas.

KaliKay26

This is a gourmand for the floral lover! I get candied violets, & caramel notes. Every scent is intriguing, & makes my mouth water for more! This is elegant. I barely smell the coffee note, though. There’s a hint of coffee and vanilla in the dry down but it’s not the main show. Also, for those who don’t like patchouli, like myself, this is not heavy on the patchouli at all! This doesn’t smell like Black Opium or Coffee Break to me. It’s refined & unique. I would recommend it to the floral lover in the market for a caramel/sweet coffee fragrance who doesn’t want to smell like everyone else.

DscentFellow007

I do like how this smells and would not even question it..
sexy, versatile

Yumik

I skipped on this as I remembered not liking any Dolce & Gabbana perfumes, but why did I make this purchase? My sister bought it first and I was intrigued so I tried it on and I loved it! Now, in terms of longevity, it doesn’t last too long on skin or clothes for me, but subtlety of the caramel note is addictive. This is one of my daily perfume. Price point is good too. It reminds of when innocence meets sexy. Would I buy this again? Absolutely!

yaseminpol

I have a new 30 ml bottle of this perfume. If anyone is interested, I sell it with the whole package for a low price.
It just doesn't suit me and was a blind buy.

Maria19

This is a rich, coffee floral fragrance. A unique scent in some way. The heart note is soft caramel and violet-like on my skin. Also luxurious. I'm glad I found this scent again. I vaguely remember when the fragrance was launched, I wasn't interested in buying it. Now I really like it. Suitable for every occasion. Can't compare to Black Opium.

IVamp

Very disappointing - maybe it doesn't work well with my body chemistry. Only 1 hour after spraying it, I barely smell anything at all, and it surely has nothing to do with caramel or coffee. Just a basic spicy floral like hundreds of others, not one unique note. I find no similarities to Black Opium, which I like. Boring and generic. Turns sour quite quickly. Hard pass.

ambervxyjul

I’m shocked to see so many reviews saying they don’t get the coffee note! That’s all I smell! I get coffee, caramel and vanilla mostly with violet (powdery). It’s a better version of black opium to me, as that one is too sharp. This is elegant and classy smelling.

Meme1221

I get the pretty florals, no coffee and a honey note to my nose which may be the caramel. It's pretty...slightly alluring I'll enjoy it while it lasts.

BLIND BUY SAFE 👍🏾.

DianaCiobo

I bought this a few years ago without smelling it before, and I don't regret it even a little bit. I am now at my 3rd bottle. Lasts a long time, smells similar to black opium probably because of the coffee note, but I find it more elegant. One of my favorites for sure

littlebitofeverything

After getting a sample with a purchase for another perfume, I had those samples sit around for a while before trying them. But when I finally did, oh my. I immediately loved it.

It’s exactly the vibe I was hoping for - a cozy, warm, welcoming vanilla with a hint of caramel. Vanilla and caramel notes can smell a bit cheap, but this doesn’t. It’s very elegant and elevated.

It’s also a beast mode fragrance. You do not need more than one or two sprays and it lasts the entire day. Still noticeable on clothes after days. If you spray this once on your coat, the scent is going to follow you around everywhere in the best way possible.

Rootiscalculating

I’m still looking for a signature perfume and I always wanted to try this one. However it’s too heavy for my personal taste. Also it’s a very familiar scent, it’s definitely a no.

fvnaticbychoice

I get musky pear + the slightest hint of sweetness, no coffee. It's also quite perfume-y and not gourmand at all imo. after having this on my to-try list for years, i'm quite disappointed.

sajtwo

I think my opinion on this perfume differs from the majority here. I absolutely love it! But I can't wear it during the cold weather. In the summer, this was my go to scent when going out at night. It was a super sweet caramel with some nice floral notes. I only did 1-2 sprays due to the heaviness of the perfume, and I got many compliments.

Now that it is cooling off a bit, I find myself grabbing it less. It's still nice, but smells like a generic perfume, or walking into a department store. I can barely smell any caramel. I'm excited to pull this back out next summer.

craquelcarrera89

Lots of compliments.
It is giving me a vibe of a very sweet and creamy drink, like baileys with an extra coffee shot.

Mia80

Pleasant. Intriguing. Fun depth/base. Not one false note. Getting one for my man.

midget11

i am very sensitive to YUMMY scents, altho theyre addictive I wouldnt wear them out, BUT i think this one is a sexy yummy, they did it right, its delicious but also perfumey enough to wear out etc
i agree wit the description in previous review, its caramel frappe vibes, but less coffee. if ur trying to imagine it its kinda like sweet vanilla along the lines of kayali vanilla 28 (but stronger), with a LOAD of caramel on top + touch of floral edge. The violet, citrus and patchouli make jt perfumey and sexy which is great but you dont actively notice it, its just if you analyse it. its very smooth and on the surface its mostly yummy perfumey sweet caramel; the coffee is light because its so well blended, u know its there but theres no kick from it

theres nothing not to like this about this scent, its great, youthful and playful vibes, and definitely best for colder seasons

maddieonline

I reviewed this a while ago and did not like it at all. However, now the weather is cooler, I have been wearing this and it smells absolutely beautiful. The powdery, almost sugared notes are very prominent in the opening and it melts down to a sweet, deep, caramel. It smells like a caramel frappe, although the coffee notes aren't particularly prominent on myself. This smells gorgeous layered with Al Rehab Choco Musk or with Kayali Vanilla 21 and it lasts a good 6-8 hours on me. Definitely an autumnal, wintery fragrance as opposed to a summery one, it smells so much better without the July heat.

AgusMartinez

Loved it since they sprayed it on my hand and its particles filled the air near me. It is very sweet in a sophisticated way, not a childish way. I do not get the similarity claimed with Black Opium. You can’t feel the coffee in this one (fortunately, since I don’t like it in fragrances).

Perfumeismydrug

I get all the notes except coffee. From rest of the notes Sweet, floral, Iris, vanilla and fruity accords stand out the most for me but they are blended well. I do not get the freshness from citrus. For me this would be a night time fragrance. The darkness in this does remind me of opium. It’s a nice scent to have in your collection.

Smeraldina77

With coffee, caramel, vanilla and patchouly, I would have expected a gourmandish fragrance at least, but violet accord is very vintage violet soap bar like, instead of a more appropriate, in my opinion, candied violet accord. The notes seemed interesting, but the result is a soapy violet with a faint coffee note (I cannot smell caramel, vanilla or patchouly) and to me it also smells a little bit stale. I much more prefer the Intense flanker.

elleayjay

I’m so sad I don’t get the coffee note, I feel like that would have really added the depth that I feel is missing here. I agree with @Karobi that this is much fruitier than I expected but I still really like it, especially much better than the original The One. It’s very sweet, but soft and delicate. Somebody mentioned it smells like old lady cosmetics, which I don’t understand but everybody is different lol I only got a sample size but I wouldn’t mind a full sized bottle of this. It’s a very pretty scent, but not show stopping for me.

karobi

Opening is EXTREMELY perfume-y and a little overwhelming. It's much fruitier than I expected, and I don't get much powderiness. I find this almost IDENTICAL to Britney Spears' Prerogative, which is also in the Black Opium family, but I don't find it to smell like Black Opium. In comparison to Prerogative, the white florals in that are swapped for iris and violet in this.

shakyharrison

It's a shame that a perfume that has coffee, caramel and vanilla ,also has iris, patchouli and rose which turn it into an "old lady/dated cosmetics" scent. Such a disappointment.

katarinacza

I adore it - in winter and late fall, it smells horrible in spring and summer.
It's all I need in cold months - tasty, sweet with caramel, warm and cozy. Perfect sweater smell for me.
Lasts nicely few hours and silage is good enough.
Coffee gives nice twist, making it not clogging.
I don't have nor smelled The One, therefore cannot really compare, but this one is one of my favorite winter smells so far. Price is a bargain for what you get.
I don't get why people call it boring, but again - I guess it's all about the body chemistry.

GUADELUPA

Beautiful and tender scent. I can smell violet and coffee with caramel at the background. Sweety, but not cloying. Caramel is perfectly balanced with the flowers. Coffee is not bitter, adds its own charm to the fragrance. Longevity and sillage is good enough. I can smell it for the most part of the day on my clothes. A worthy representative of The One line!

Alison8

A beautiful fragrance, the coffee and violet really stand out for me. It Just does not last longer than 3 hours or project well on me, therefore I will not be repurchasing.

OfTheValley

Alone it feels like missing depth: layered with Rolling in Love by Kilian or Good Girl by CH is delicious.

Cherry Bloom

Typical designer scent. When you just want to smell like a perfume. Nothing more nothing less. Boring and uninteresting. Not ugly just smelling like a perfume. That's it.

makeup_therapy

What a tragic disappointment. I fell in love with it instantly at Sephora but those top notes were deceiving. After 5 minutes this beautiful fresh fruity floral perfume turns from lovely citrus and pear to bitter violet, iris and rose combo that makes me want to shower immediately . There is some faint caramel latte present but it’s completely overpowered by that bitter and nauseating note. If they could just get rid of those nasties. I think i had a similar experience with Mojave Ghost by Byredo. The violet note has this bitter synthetic splenda aftertaste. Returned the next day. Thank you, next!

The13thHour

The Only One is my favorite Dolce & Gabbana perfume and a huge compliment getter. It is a very caramel and coffee type of fragrance but not bitter or sickeningly sweet. It's creamy, alluring and sexy. A little bit goes a long way. Personally, I prefer this over Black Opium. I think this perfume is more well done opposed to YSL's perfume. I love layering Midnight Amber Glow by Bath & Body Works with this perfume. For me this is strictly a cold fall day and winter perfume.

PurpleT

A caramel and coffee bomb! When you first spray it, it smells a bit unique for the iris and violet, that bring a bit of sophistication and fresh powderiness, but the dry down is straight caramel, with some coffee and vanilla..too overpowering, too sweet and simple for me

Cherry Bloom

Just a mix between Black Opium and La Vie Est Belle. What a dissapointment. I don't find it neither rich nor extraordinary. Maybe in winter it will be different. I feel like crying when people spend so much money on a present when the list of perfumes I want is aleays expanding. This had never been on my wish list and now, that I have it, I understand why...

Rezina

LOVE in a bottle! It's rich, creamy, sugary and so intoxicating!
I fell in in love when I first sniffed it. In the opening it is floral with a gourmand touch. But the real magic starts when it dries down and the coffee note start to bloom. The smell is very unique and I haven't found any clone of it till now. It is a complex perfume and not everyone's cup of tea. It makes me remind of a bold intimidating woman in black.
The longevity is 7-8 hours on clothes and silage is moderate. Overall, 8/10

Sammbac

Black opium with a touch of violets and a tad sweeter.

betheljaviles

In the opening it smelled very sweet, almost like bubble gum or cotton candy. The patchouli on this was an immediate no from me. I found it to be harsh and a bit old fashioned smelling, clashing with the pleasant sweet notes. It dries down to a very pleasant, sweet and almost fresh scent on my skin but I cannot get past the patchouli.

Featherblossom

I have a tester of this but I won't purchase a full bottle. The notes sound great but the execution is awful. It smells like plastic and I can barely get a whiff of faint coffee. If you're looking for a coffee scent, try Black Opium. Don't bother with this.

Straight To It

I remember this fragrance initially came out - it used to be much more coffee forward than it is now. It smelled more like a sultry woman in all black sitting at a cafe with a beautiful bouquet of flowers in front of her whilst sipping straight VERY ROBUST espresso with caramel syrup in it. Sweet, strong coffee with beautiful powdery flowers, oh dear - I absolutely fell in LOVE with this fragrance, initially. Even in smelling my very old vial, the coffee is much more forward than it is in the latest formulation. However, I digress.
NOW, this is a very pretty young lady sitting outside of Starbucks drinking a caramel latte. Coffee gets completely buried and you get violet, caramel and rose. The coffee being more up front in this made the scent less cloying and kept it mysterious. Now it is very sweet caramel with a slight floral tinge and coffee is an afterthought. I don't think I will repurchase after this bottle is finished unless I find an older formulation. BRING BACK DESIRE!!!!

candied orange slices dipped in caramel.
it's so sweet on my skin and in this warmer weather.
in the cooler months it's more powdery on me.
I let it sit and over a year later and with some maceration that plasticky note is finally going away.

Enrium

I wanted to try The Only One thanks to the coffee-iris accord at its heart, but it is just a disappointing, incoherent mish-mash of synthetic sweetness. It reminds me of YSL Black Opium, as both are coffee-laced designer gourmands, but BO is superior.

TOO opens with syrupy orange blossom, followed by bold, powdery Parma violets. I get some synthetic, musky pear after a little while, enhancing the sweetness.

A boldly sweet, powdery floral bouquet forms the heart - it is hard to pick out individual notes. A liberal dose of syrupy vanillin sweetens it further. Coffee follows, spicy and dark, which, alongside the vanilla, brings it to Black Opium territory.

The burnt caramel note emerges as it dries down, rounding out the base, a logical progression from the vanilla-coffee accord. The syrupy florals remain and a cloud of patchouli punctuates it with earthiness as it fades, becoming a sweet musky skin scent. Sillage is moderate and longevity is long-lasting.

A feminine autumn/winter scent, this is a generic, lazy gourmand that smells cheap and synthetic. A syrupy hot mess. Just buy Black Opium instead. 1/5.

canabena

This is a more mature powdery version of BLack Opium. I do like this however but it doesn't smell as sexy as I expected.I feel like black opium better suits my demographic of a younger sexy woman while The Only One seems more like a mature woman. Its a bit more heavy on the florals.I get the vanilla however the coffee isn't standing out to me and Im not picking up any caramel until the dry down. If you are looking for something ultra sexy and seductive this isn't it however these are my first impressions so I will let it macerate a bit and update my review if anything changes. All in all I like it but not what I was expecting based on other reviews, I was looking for another clubbing scent this one however ill reserve for dinners.

Update : There is a really nice almost cotton candy like sweetness there in the dry down which is lovely, however the powder still kind of over powers it. I think id be in love if it wasn't for the strong powderines.

Update 2: This has really started to grow on me I find myself constantly picking it up to take a whiff.Very sweet again very powdery but it works this is lovely my new go to date night scent.

HannahRosesAreRed

It seems that coffee, vanilla and caramel are the queens of evening autumn/winter fragrances. Together, they can be sexy, skanky, classy or comforting. Dolce and Gabbana's The Only One is one of those fragrances that can be all of the above, and excellently so. It's a lovely, gooey gourmand, a more sophisticated step-up from a caramel frappuccino, tamed and classed up by powdery, cosmetic-esque notes like iris and rose, and grounded by a little patchouli. The coffee-vanilla combo comes out front in center, but not in an obnoxious way, but rather in a comforting and welcoming way.

The Only One is also pretty versatile. While I think this works better for cooler seasons as opposed to working all-year-round, I could see this transition from day to night pretty well. I wouldn't wear it to the office, either, but on the weekends it would do very nicely. It's good for lounging and relaxing with a book or by the fire, or paired with heels in the club or a date. I would compare this to a more elevated YSL Black Opium, or a less chaotic Carolina Herrera Good Girl. It's superbly blended and not too linear.

While it doesn't exactly work for me or my style, I have to give it up to this modern classic. I'm always happy to get a whiff of this on some of my friends or fellow partygoers on those cool Friday nights of drinking and dancing.

Really beautiful, but I was hoping for more coffee and patchouli. I get mostly the caramel, vanilla, and fruity notes on my skin. After dry down, I get the most faint coffee. It feels a little mature to me. I'm in my 30's and I think this would suit my mother really well. It's definitely a very pretty, but serious scent.

Clairexoxo

Smells like sweet pear candies drizzled with a bit of caramel. So girly, youthful, and pretty !!!! No, this is not mind blowing or a masterpiece, but it’s very pleasant. Strong like! I got more than 15 hrs on my shirt

VirgowithLeo

All I get is caramel in this.
I love how it smells in the bottle: caramel but perfumy etc
But on me/ on my clothes etc it smells like caramel drizzle and some cacao powder

JustSimpleThings

I wanted to like this, but it's a synthetic fruitchouli
synthetic caramel mess on me. Mostly synthetic caramel (And I love patchouli! So the patch isn't the problem)

XOXO_marcel

This is super pretty. It's a cold "gummy" caramel, like a chewy Werther's candy. Not a "buttery" caramel.

Similar to Juicy Couture Gold Couture, but lighter. The Only One is a gourmand that still has an air of sophistication.

Detman101

Just received my bottle...first spray on skin.
I dunno...this is wild, but all I'm getting is: Peach, Pear and Patchouli....AND I'M LOVING IT!!
Hold on...I'm about 20 mins into this and I'm just now starting to smell a hint of the coffee!

Whoa...this is what I always wished the OG "Black Opium" was...THIS is wearable!!!
This is not screechy, doesn't burn my eyes (jasmine...euuugh) and is smoother than any of the BO line that I've experienced...with the exception of the "BO-Le Parfum" which I absolutely am addicted to and adore beyond measure.

I will definitely be wearing this layered with "Vanilla Love" and save my "BO-LP" for special occasions.

D&G definitely fixed the OG "Black Opium" DNA with this release and made a version of it that's less "Drunken Club Whore Passed out in the Bathroom" and more "Respectable Woman That Demands Order".

10/10
<3

EDIT: After the first full-day wear, I will allow this to sit and macerate in the closet for a few months and return to it. The scent is absolutely lovely, but it does not project at all currently. Hopefully it will mature and reach it's full potential...

06JUL23 UPDATE:
I have to take a few points away from this fragrance. It seems to have become a bottle of pure sugar. Tried it out again yesterday on my arm just to see how it was developing...yuck!
Pure orange cotton-candy sugar...horrible! I don't know where the rest of the notes in this fragrances composition went, but they're gonzo! All I get from this is heavy candy orange and cotton-candy now....unacceptable.
Out of all my "Mandarin/Orange" fragrances...this is my least favorite.

*Decluttering this...it's officially for sale.*

BusyBeee

I like it. Smells very similar to JPG Scandal By Night. It's very boozy and sweet.

kristamb

This one is really pretty IMO! Not floral-pretty, not fruit-pretty, but just a nice unique scent that isn't overly feminine but also not masculine. I'm not sure that I love it more than Black Opium or Midnight Cafe for a coffee scent though. I would describe this one almost as a dusty sweetened coffee perfume. It reminds me of an indie scent I used to wear called Dragon Butter. Some may call this powdery, but it just smells dusty to me. Dust, coffee and sweetness. I'm actually more impressed with The Only One the more I've worn it-- it's very much off the beaten path for a mainstream fragrance company like D&G IMO. I've also layered this with BBW Midnight Amber Glow and it's a great combo!

Milamolo

I'm on my third bottle in 4 months, and this is my most complimented fragrance. I was in an uber and the driver went insane, he said he'd never smelt a perfume this nice. I was at my local beauty supply store and the girl working there had me write it down. I think I get a compliment a day on this. I've reviewed it before and I'm still in love with it 3 bottles in. My key tip for anyone with this scent is to layer it with a vanilla/coffee body wash, lotion and seal with oil prior to spraying. And you'll get beast mode projection from that.

Allthingssparkle

I've tried five D&G perfumes, and not a single one of them lasts more than a couple of hours on me. I ordered and received a travel sample of this and I've tried to wear it several times. I put it on this morning at 5:30 a.m. It's 9:16 a.m., and it's COMPLETELY gone, just like every other D&G perfume I've ever tried. I've even tried layering it to boost the projection and -- for real -- the D&G completely disappears and only the "booster" scent remains! :/ It's so sad, because the scents are really nice. This could really be a gorgeous scent....if it actually had a scent! :(

On the other hand, I have fallen head over heels with Candy Prada. I happened to see recently that The Scented (Yana) on YouTube just recently discovered Candy Prada and has been surprised by her love of it! It projects like a buttery, soft kettle corn kind of sweet on me, and I have to restrain myself from using it daily.

So I guess the lesson I've learned from this is that if it's not broken, don't fix it. It's Candy Prada for me.

Mea.fleur

This is everything I wanted out of Prada Candy. Like the previous commenter said, the powder note is marshmallowy, not baby powdery. There’s something lactonic here, which I’m surprised isn’t listed in the notes. Think caramel latté with whipped cream. Incredibly silky and well blended, which is why my partner likes it, even though he hates patchouli. The iris makes it a nice bedtime fragrance too! All ages would love this. This is a warmer, softer, amber leaning version of La Vie Est Belle. I get the references to Black Opium, but I find this to be more interesting, probably because of the milky quality.

magnoliaboulevard

Very pretty scent. On me, however, it pulls very powdery sweet and I don’t get the whiff of any caramel or vanilla. I do love it though!

Momopeach

I tested this on paper and skin while browsing Ulta. It does smell quite nice and well blended, but not quite as gourmand as the other comments make it out to be. The floral and powdery notes are very present. It did not last long on my hand but I think with multiple sprays on clothes you can get a decent scent cloud going. More caramel and less coffee when it comes to the gourmand notes that are there.

It smells more "perfumey" than gourmand edible but it is a really pleasant, feminine, inoffensive scent that could be good for daily office wear.

This is what I was hoping prada candy would smell like. Prada candy is so weak I literally cannot smell at all.

shoujomarina

really wanted a coffee fragrance and saw recommendations of this. i think i need to stop convincing myself that i can work with Vanilla+Patchouli together lol. I don’t dislike this fragrance, but it’s so overdone at this point, i feel myself cringing whenever I smell black opium and la vie est belle now. i smell it everywhere on women, it becomes less appealing, like im pretty sure this is what i smelled on someone yesterday. I’ll have to use this sparingly and maybe mix it with something else for me to make it more unique or wearable for me now. strong sillage and longevity, sugar bomb, and still, too generic. not for me.

Sweetboy05

Delicious!

poodleParty

This is a "pretty" smell, but it reminds me of my college days for some reason. It also makes me feel like a college student 😵. I think there was something that smelled like this back in the day, like in the early 2000s?

I had a small bottle and gave it away. It's just not the vibe I'm going for, but it would be great for those who like gourmand/sweet scents. It's very sweet, very caramel-heavy. I actually don't think this is similar to Black Opium at all.

maddieonline

Nice perfume, reminiscent of a caramel latte. It just does not sit well on my skin - I feel like this fragrance in particular is extremely heavily dependent on the wearer's skin, because it smells beautiful in the bottle but not on my skin, whereas it smells incredible when worn by a friend. Not for me, but definitely not bad. It lasts forever and the projection is great - I'm always mindful when wearing this in an office situation as I fear it can get overpowering.

NicoleJasmine86

I was really excited about trying this after reading the reviews... See, I recently stumbled upon the *new* Black Opium Le Parfum that just came out & absolutely fell in love! HARD. Shocking because I never really was a fan of the original Black Opium. 🤷 Anyways, so I went on a hunt for other fragrances that were known for their coffee notes. This was a fan favorite & was described as a "caramel latte, more clean & expensive version of Black Opium (original)". After applying....... it smells EXACTLY like the new Le Parfum version of BO that has more vanillas. This is Black Opium Le Parfum 's little teenage sister. If Juicy Couture came out with a coffee perfume this would be her. An exact copy of the deep, sweet, sensual 'BO Le Parfum' scent but much, much... weaker. The lighter, aireir, thinner body mist version of the new BO Le Parfum. Kind of disappointed because I was expecting a much more unique & caramelized version of BO. This is way too similar to the new Black Opium Le Parfum but it's like.... the eau de toilette version. It's decent but nothing special folks. (Also,..almost reminds me of Viva La Juicy -Gold Couture in a way)

Siv7Stars

No similarities to Black Opium, all I'm getting is plastic pear n I hate it. No balloons for me don't care, I smell what I smell.

Tony Shades

Very delicious sweet juicy fruity take on the Black Opium scent profile. Side by side, the YSL is actually more mature and darker in the drydown. They could be considered Big Sis (YSL) and Lil Sis (D&G), but both are just as pretty.

ReeReeLove

This is pure heaven in a bottle. It's sweet but not in a sickening way. The notes blend so well. The caramel and vanilla are prominent to me. I'm typically not one for gourmand fragrances but this one is crafted so beautifully. I absolutely love it!

Anything4talishas

This is a beautiful perfume. Right after taking the cap off the bottle, I can smell the caramel and coffee. First sprays are powder and violet. After it settles on skin and clothes, it smells fruity and effervescent. I’m so glad I got it since I rarely splurge on designer scents unless I’m truly in love. It smells classy and expensive, lasts decent, and you only need a little to take you a long way. Tonight I paired it with VS bare vanilla body spray, and Pacifica vanilla hair mist. This is somehow the freshest gourmand fragrance I’ve tried yet. Love her 💜 someone said it smells like expensive bubble bath and caramels, and I would say that’s a great description.

saffron spice

It's a little too early to do a review I'll probably revise later. But I believe each bottle smells different, I have revisited the tester bottles in store multiple times and each time it smells different to me. Luckily the full bottle I have smells like realistic caramel like literally the sweet gooey caramel which is crazy because ive never gotten that realistic caramel scent from any fragrances I have that contain the caramel note. It's safe to say im shocking impressed with my purchase.
Rate:8.5

Hippocampus24

I personally don't like it, as I find it too powdery smelling for me. (to be fair that is the third accord listed). And after it settles you can tell the caramel and patchouli, which is weird and I personally don't think should go together. But if you do, hey! rest assured that smell will be hanging around.

ava96

I ended up buying a bottle of this because I confused it with another perfume (so essentially it was a blind buy). It's pleasant, very caramely. The opening is kind of soapy as well as caramely, so it's an odd combination. The drydown is comforting, sweet and enveloping.

CarlaN

My forever gourmand perfection! 🤍
If I had to describe the smells I can “isolate” from it, for sure I’d say caramel and patchouli.
Then it’s all a perfect mix I can’t describe.
Sometimes it even feels rainy on me, if it make sense. Owners could confirm?
The best time to wear its fall, but I like it in spring time too.
White t-shirt and blue jeans. If it was a color, lilac.
- It last forever on clothes, a really good amount on skin (full day)
- It manages to be very sweet but in a fresh, adult and non artificial way (maybe the pear and the iris together?)
I just feel like it’s not just sitting on my skin, it becomes part of me and I really, really really love it beyond words or reasons. I’m at my third bottle, and it’s the only perfume I never get tired of.
I have a “trained nose” in gourmands, so if it smells like any other to you it’s probably because you are not used to this amount of sweetness. But I can assure that among other similar DNAs, this is different.
I also don’t get the Black Opium comparison, I owned it as well and they are nothing alike.
Here the coffee vibe it’s very subtle and not detectable like in BO. Also BO it’s much more “heavy”, plasticky and synthetic and last 1/5 of The Only One.

Beauty like Ester

It Starts off very caramel and orange blossom then dries down to coffee and violet which I disliked cuz it got very heavy, started smelling like Abercrombie and Fitch at the mall.

jazzscent13

The iris, coffee beans and Carmel combined gives this fragrance a chocolate feel to me.., I usually pair this with my Viktor R. Bonbon to bring out the Carmel. It’s actually a gourmand scent that’s wearable year round, because the performance is moderate.
It’s a “okay” scent, but don’t think I’ll replace this once I run out 🤎

AMMILLER

I hate black opium and was surprised to see this comparison. To me they don't smell anything alike! Black opium smells like stale coffee and vanilla, D&G The Only One smells like expensive bubble bath and caramel. Sweet, almost nutty but with a subtle cleanness from the violet and a classy floral backdrop. All I got from Black opium was stale coffee with a generous milky undertone and a hint of smokey vanilla. Nothing wrong with that, if you love B. Opium and it smells great on you, then heck yeah. It just smells bad on me (and to me).

Kim Milan

Dolce and Gabbana the only one is nothing compared to black opium no resemblance what so ever and dolce and gabbana the only one is more sweet and caramelised and black opium is straight coffee and has a Smokey warm scent. More stonger and prominent I love dolce and gabbana and it’s my signature scent 😍

ilydemirel

Its like black opium but fresher and less sugared version. I will definitely gonna buy it. But not now maybe in the future.

Smellybutgood

I love this on my wife. To me it opens like YSL Black Opium and dries down similar to La Vie Est Belle.

A very sexy fragrance at an affordable price.

Noelly88

I love this! Not sure why I waited to long to test it. I did end up buying a bottle. On initial spray you get the coffee mixed with a powder that has hints of pear, citrus, and violet. In the dry down you still smell a hint of coffee and powdery freshness with bergamot, pear, vanilla and caramel taking the wheel. It is delicious! Moderate projection and longevity. I only think it’s similar to Black Opium when you smell it on the nozzle - on my skin and clothes it doesn’t bear any resemblance to Black Opium, although it does remind me of what could be Viva La Juicy’s mature, older sister.

LisaA71

I honestly don’t see the comparison to Black Opium. This has become my go to fragrance. It was not a love at first sniff. In fact, I considered decluttering it. My husband bought it for me for Christmas last year and it sat on the shelf lonely and deprived for most of the year. Obligatory wears for hubby, but I did not enjoy it much. I don’t know what happened, but one day this just clicked. Yummy warm vanilla. The violet I hated made this seem fresh and clean, but also very gourmand at the same time. The coffee that I didn’t get…suddenly came out to say hello. Creamy, warm, and inviting. I wear this to work and every person that comes in always says “it smells so good in here.” I work in a no fragrance zone so I never say it’s me. I just smile and say, “it does.”

Kizzyb93

Update:this is a “clean girl” gourmand! As someone who really dislikes black opium, I really do love this so different to what you would expect of designer fragrance it’s a sweet and sensual comforting and cozy , the iris coffee 😍, just blended to absolute perfection.
I discovered this over a year ago, and this has been one that I always come back to its one that I can always appreciate and it’s one gives me comfort, it truly is beautiful, and I don’t think I could ever get bored of this one, I don’t get any similarities to Black opium. I absolutely hate black Opium ( I thisnk that one smells like an old dusty dirty room), but I absolutely LOVE this
I would not say this is a safe blind buy by all means ,
This lasts on my skin, about 6 to 8 hours on my clothes it lasts forever
Sillage is nuclear!

Hifza

As the name says The Only One, its actually the only one. A warm, light and clean scent to carry with yourself. A little dry but sweet and long lasting.

Baroqu3

This smells nothing like Black opium to my nose!
This is light, fresh/clean, crisp from the bergamot and pear the violet with orange adds a sparkling touch. The vanilla and caramel is not sticky sweet nor syrupy as they are combined with iris, vanilla, delicious orange blossom and mild clean patchouli. I get the violet throughout and I’ve never smelled anything like it.
Black opium is thick, screechy, strong overwhelming perfumey smell that’s almost suffocating while this is transparent, beautifully blended, smooth bright and very classy. This smells amazing 100ml not 50ml it’s too small for such a beautiful perfume!
She projects and lasts so I will rate it 8/10.
Be careful if you get one where the juice is extra dark as it will smell awful like it’s spoiled.

LaMiaRosa

I really like this! It's a nice refreshing citrusy floral. Reminds me a little of Burberry The Beat, which also has orange and bergamot in the top notes, and iris in the mid notes. I don't get the coffee at all and it is sweet but it's a sweet floral - I don't get caramel at all. It's definitely not what I expected but this may just be how my body chemistry is affecting the scent. I'm trying this in the heat of summer and I think it works well. I think it would be great in any season, actually!

Decent longevity as well, although it only projects for an hour or two. Overall it's a very pleasant and inoffensive scent without being boring or smelling exactly like everyone else.

Edit: I get the coffee now, but just in the opening, so about 20-30 minutes. After that it's a lovely clean floral vanilla. It's quite addictive actually - I can't stop wearing it!

Milamolo

I bought donna born in roma, and had this as my previpus first fragrance. And I didn't like it at all, it sealed the deal for me that I like The Only One and I plan on making it my signature scent. I actually wished I'd gotten a 100ml of The Only One. This scent is what romantic dreams are made of. Bought this last week and I cannot stop wearing it. Initially it has a floral punch that dries down into the most delectable warm caramel latte. You have to give it a few minutes to sit and marinate, it is so delicious when it does. It is amazing at layering and it's a standout on its own. My favorite caramel fragrance to date. It fills a room but also sits cozily on your skin. It's lasted me over 12 hours because of layering.

ttaliaa

i was really disappointed by this fragrance, i didn’t get any caramel or coffee notes, just a very strong alcohol-type smell. now it sits in my drawer unused.

silverlocusts

I wanted this to be more like Black Opium for me, and you can see that is the overall vibe they were going for, but it lacks dimension. Something in the mix, I think possibly the violet note they use, also turned to straight play-dough on me. In the bottle it smells fine, if a little pedestrian, but on my skin it was just nasty. A shame because I think the packaging and overall presentation is much more chic than Black Opium and her many, many flankers. I was able to pass my large sample/decant on to a friend and I hope they enjoy it, but for me it was a big, disappointing "no."

Abbaloney

At first spritz it smells between a turkish delight, raspberry licorice and a root beer drink. Was nice and definitely very sweet, definitely didnt smell any coffee though. Not my favourite but maybe it will grow on me

msquito

Tried this due to the comments saying it is similar to Black Opium. I didn't find any similarity. I don't get the coffe at all. Nice perfume but too much caramel. Too sweet. It is Black Opium for me.

june7moon

Synthetic coffee smell, a scrubber for me personally.

joikgirl

My nose still doesn't get any caramel, I do get a lot of violet, orange and coffee even. Vanilla is def there. This and The One are twins, but I love the other one more.

LiliiiS

I get why people compare it to Black Opium but I like The Only One a lot more because it's smoother, creamier and has a very pretty powderyness to it and I find it more delicious.I tried to like Black Opium and I do like some of it's flankers but I love D&G The Only One. the coffee note isn't as strong as Black Opium but there's a perfect caramel note and something creamy and lactonic here which reminds me of whipped cream and dulce de leche in Britney Spears Private Show. as a gourmand lover, I find this sweet, warm creamy yummyness heavenly but there's also powdery floral notes here giving it a perfumey vibe and preventing it from getting too foody and edible.
while in the opening the combination of pear, vanilla and a hint of coffee bring BO to mind, in dry down it's more about caramel, violet and vanilla and doesn't have much in common with BO. it's a warm and sweet, cozy yet classy, softly powdery floral vanilla which is very easy to wear and a complement magnet.

Konest

Fragrantica.com made me buy this. Other people's reviews made me buy this one and I haven't regretted it.
I really like it. Yes it's sweet and youthful but a more mature Britney Spears Fantasy kind of sweet.
It's guaranteed for success if LVEB, Flowerbomb or Black Opium is your type of thing. I find it intoxicating and have got many compliments wearing it. You should try it too!

ssamhita

I will never forget the day I first smelled The Only One, and fell in love with it. I was at my sister's, sleep deprived and hormonal from breastfeeding my then four month old, and when I finally gave my arms a break and handed my fitfully sleeping baby to my sister just so I could use the restroom, I spent a few minutes there just gathering myself. That's when my eyes fell on the sample of The Only One she had in her bathroom, and without thinking much, I sprayed it on my arm. You know how some perfumes immediately make you smile, and you know, you simply know in those very first moments that you love it? Well, The Only One was that perfume for me.

I get coffee, but this is sweetened coffee - think caramel latte. The iris keeps it beautifully balanced so it never gets cloying. I don't get a ton of florals, which is a good thing because I think my issue with Black Opium is the weird combination of flowers with coffee that makes me want to gag. The patchouli-iris accord in here is quite similar to the one in La Vie Est Belle, and I know this because once when I wore this, a fellow fraghead asked me if I was wearing La Vie Est Belle.

This really is warm and cozy and just plain simple happy. I think this is such a huggable scent, you know? Like I'd love to smell this on someone when I hug them, or for someone to smell it on me when they hug me. This lasts amazingly well, and while I love it on its own, I find that it layers amazingly well with CH Good Girl, or Lancome La Nuit Tresor and my favourite - with Swiss Arabian Casablanca. The woody aspect of the last one especially is the perfect compliment to the sweetness of The Only One.

P.S. My nine year old calls it the Coco Crunch perfume because to her it smells like chocolate cereal, and I love the way she smells when I spray it on her sweatshirt. Fun fact, she actually got a compliment from a woman at an indoor playground one time while wearing this!

noodlehead19

caramel is a tricky note for me, and so I think that's why I'm not super fond of this one. if YSL Black Opium is a vanilla latte, The Only One is a caramel latte. I don't get any of the iris or violet, either, which are florals I love. otherwise, it lasts forever and is very loud, so it can easily fill up a room. I like it, but I wouldn't pay full price for it; I would only really consider doing so if, for some reason, I couldn't use Black Opium anymore.

ayamail26

This is gorgeous! Sweet but not cloying, it’s elegant, deep, dark. I get hints of the coffee note, nothing too harsh. All the notes are blended beautifully. It’s not powdery at all.

HillTop

I have no idea how they manage their incredible perfumes but DG’s The Only One is a poem! Luxury, cosy, deep. You will not find a special note outstanding cause all ingredients fit together as one. There are hints of flowers mixed with creamy, sweet, elegant fruits and blossoms and a very slightly coffee note which you only recognize when you know it’s in it ;) Masterpiece!

Cinnabunn

Perfect. Not one bad thing I can say about this perfume ♡

lauren1nader

My most intoxicating signature scent. Adore it!

Pixied0ll

A grown up gourmand. It does smell very good if you love sweet gourmand scents. I can see how this could be overpowering if over-sprayed. Both my boyfriend’s mother and I have this fragrance (total coincidence, I suppose we have similar scent interests) and we both enjoy it.

MargotHarow

Does this remind anyone else of Pink Sugar?

maryannegrace

I ordered a sample of this without looking at any reviews. I can't say anything about it smelling like Black Opium because I haven't smelled that one (surprisingly). But the first thing that popped into my mind when I smelled The Only One is that it smelled a lot similar to Prada Candy. It's like a much better version of it. I didn't like Prada Candy, there was something off-smelling to that one.

This is like the more sophisticated, polished sister of Prada Candy. I think it would be perfect for date nights.

Hannehoney

Wearing this one today and I absolutely love it :) its like eating a caramel toffee cookie and drinking a coffee. So comforting. One of my favorites.

ash45365

I liked this one, it’s not a favorite but I found the scent pleasant. Mostly smelled vanilla, not much of the coffee, or other notes.

AuthenticAF

No matter how much i try, i just cant get myself to like this on me. I did at first, but on me it smells weird. I really thought i would love coffee notes in perfume, but i just dont which is a surprise bc i love coffee.
I have a large bottle of this hardly used for trade or purchase. I got it from a reputable dealer. I also have opium extreme which is similar in note family and i am finding is just not working for me either. Pm me if interested. US only.

kbethel20

I smell no coffee but it's delicious. It smells a lot like dolce shine even though there are no fruits. I would do summer and winter. The caramel is very sweet!!

Nellmg40

I absolutely love this! I can see the similarities with black opium. Not quite as sweet. I can mostly smell the violet which is one of my favourite notes.

DocRach2025

This fragrance is beautiful! It definitely resembles YSL Black Opium but to my nose is a little bit smoother and sweeter. It’s like Black Opium’s classier cousin. The vanilla comes through the most in the dry down but the coffee and caramel is definitely still there. The warm floral keeps the scent in a sophisticated realm and adds a touch of luxury. It’s beautifully blended and smells delicious but also expensive. I’m in love!

margus.destiny

I got this one for my 23rd birthday in 2021 from my boyfriend. Eventhough it was summer, it suited summer nights very well. But then fall and winter came and it showed its performance in full light. The caramel to me smells more like burnt sugar (in a positive way), and it is hard to distinguish other scents to me, maybe a bit of orange. Overall, a great masterpiece!

venus28

I am convinced that this would be a perfume that Lorelai Gilmore would wear at her job.
It has those sweet notes like caramel and vanilla (and of course the coffee) that fit her playful personality but also floral/clean notes like orange blossom and rose to make it more balanced and "office friendly".
So kinda like Lorelai, but the toned down business version of her.

East River Pearl

The combination of the caramel and citrus doesn't work well with the strongly powdery floral in this for me personally. It's very sweet but definitely a more mature scent.

BougieGirlShops

This perfume is inexplicably addictive to me. I find that the scent of the projection is way better than up close nose to skin. When I get whiffs of the trail, I get a very prominent not so gourmand salted caramel with lighter notes of coffee and vanilla. It is also extremely creamy/lactonic, like a salted dulce de leche. Up close, the powdery florals give me almost a plastic-y scent. It's not horrible, but it's not as pleasant as the scent trail.

Axxn

Beautiful scent! Not too heavy or sweet and it reminds me of Bvlgari II with the violet powdery notes.

QueenieIrenie

Saccharine sweet caramel with some vanilla. Way too sweet for me, like LVEB level of sweetness, if not more. I wish I got more coffee, iris, and pear.

Forbiddenjade

What are you on about gals?? This is spun sugar and nothing else! The hype really needs killing, there's nothing sexy or worth any spending here. And I'm a D&G fan of long standing but this is a joke!

Caslml

This is what I thought black opium would smell like. Its very sweet and caramelly. I can smell the rose, caramel, bitterness of coffee and vanilla. Lasts all day on clothes and is great layered with BBW In to the Night for a night out scent.

Peaches&Cream

Upon first couple sprays of this perfume I wasn’t of fond of it. To me it gives off a harsh coffee and patchouli note….I am not sure which note I was picking up along with the two I’ve listed but I couldn’t stand to smell it. Since I sprayed a good amount I had a slight headache throughout the day. Just like The One & now this…has unfortunately been a let down. It lasts throughout the day even on skin .

RAYHANAH

This perfume is a beautiful scent indeed, but last night I layered Billie Eillish perfume (the one in gold bottle with the boobs) over it and what a love connection they had. This combo had me smelling warm, beautiful and huggable. These two scents are now a married couple amongst the rest of my perfume stash.

AuthenticAF

I just got this one and i havent worn yet but i can tell i am going to love it!

Update: i wore this several times to work this week, some cold rainy weather, some dry cold conditions. I am pretty sure my nose is anosmic to certain accords or molecules used in some perfumes, this is just another example. This is why i am cautious to be too critical because i dont think its the fragrance, i think its me. When i first spray i get coffee and caramel, but it is sour on my skin, and i dont like it. Within a few minutes, i smell virtually nothing🤷♀️ Which is super frustrating bc i wish i could smell more.
Sometimes if i put the fragrance away and return to it later i can smell it, i might try that here.

Iloveyoujembon

Smells like liquid Parma Violets. I like the caramel in the background but that combined with the violet and coffee make this overly sweet in a very literal old fashioned sweet shop way on me. Also quite powdery.

Kiwigoddess

This smells great. I'm in between a like and a love. I like it a lot though. This is something I would wear to work or for a night out. It's something I could wear all year round and is a fairly reasonable price. I get around 10hrs wear out of it, it projects well for the first 5-6 hours before sitting closer to the skin, and sillage is good for the first couple of hours.

Sonjamaria

I just absolutely love this! The violet and coffee notes really come through on my skin, and I love it because violet is one of my very favorite flower scents... Also the iris and pear gives this such an delicious, but sophisticated feel.

Yes it is sweet, but not too much at all, at least on me. Not too strong for me either, even though I often struggle with perfumes that have caramel and vanilla notes combined.

TexasOrangeBlossom

I’m on my 2nd 100ml bottle. It’s still a love. Hmm, I don’t recall ever using an entire 100ml bottle and almost immediately beginning another. It’s my all rounder. Day, night, bedtime, all seasons, all occasions. Literally all of my favorite notes in one fragrance. I usually get bored with a fragrance before I finish it.

samanthabrown11

While I enjoy the smell of perfume, it always gives me a headache. Most perfumes do not. It is pretty similar, although a bit airier, than Black Opium, but Black Opium is in my opinion longer lasting and does not give me a headache.

tamlou

This one smells like root beer to me. I was looking for the coffee note in this and did not get it all....overpowered by the caramel I think.

Allegoria

At first spray — The Only One is at once sweet, warm and rich.

My nose totally skips the fruity top notes, and is immediately to the heart. A soft coffee/caramel blended very closely with a floral bouquet. The violet and iris lending a powdery quality.

But a ‘clean’ scent runs through this fragrance, making it office friendly. And yet there is an unmistakeable sophistication that would make it perfect for an evening out.

It finally dries down on my skin to a soft caramel/vanilla after 4 hours.

Whether this is your personality or not, you won’t be offending anyone wearing this EDP. And it just may gain you compliments. I find it to be versatile and worth having on my perfume tray. Especially nice for cool Fall days.

GinCatsBooks

This is definitely not what I was expecting from the notes. I blind bought The Only One since I love The One and I wanted to explore the line further, the notes listed made me think it would be a typical late 2010's/2020's sticky concoction and the comparisons to Black Opium also hinted to that too, but....to me? its nothing like that at all.

The Only One opens similarly to Black Opium to my nose; a rich dose of espresso beans and vanilla which makes me think of vanilla lattes, but in my opinion that is where the similarities end. The Only One, with said vanilla latte in hand takes a walk to a florist where she picks up a stunning floral arrangement which includes sweet violets, cool, powdery irises and pretty pink roses. The powder from the violets and iris along with some freshness from the rose remain on my skin for quite a while, some very airy yet sweet nuances from the vanilla and caramel do peak through towards the end of the dry down but a healthy dose of patchouli and the powder from the floral notes help to keep The Only One refined and classy.

The longevity is decent with it lasting 7hrs on my skin with a moderate silage, it makes me think of being wrapped up in my scarf, coat and boots while walking down a street in Oxford on a cool autumn/winter morning. While its nothing unique or groundbreaking, it does, to me at least, feel classy and elegant with the right amount of sweetness. I also agree with people who say it smells like something from the early 2000s, except I cant quite place what it is.
Repurchase? Yes for sure

style1015

Meh - it's okay. Pleasant, likable, but nothing particularly noteworthy in my opinion. On my skin, and in the drydown, the powdery violet and iris notes come out, which I admit I'm not the biggest fan of. I do get a warm, caramel-y vibe with powdery florals. The coffee adds a hint of depth, but it still comes across as nondescript to me. On paper the caramel showed up a bit more, but on my skin there was much more warm powdery florals. This scent just doesn't hit as hard as I wanted it to.

Performance wise, this is average. I only sprayed myself twice, but on my arm where I sprayed it's pretty much gone after 4 ish hours.

The Only One is feminine, warm, slightly sweet, powdery and floral. Test it if you like violet and iris along with warm and sweet scents.

fragrance_girl

It's a decent perfume for a cold evening. It's a 'going out' type of fragrance.
It reminds me of Zara Oriental - it has a similar type of a caramel note. As someone mentioned before, it also reminds me of scents from 2000s.

Texasperumefan

Update: This is actually very similar to Black Opium. But warmer, and a bit deeper. This is everything that I hoped Black Opium would be. The initial spray smells a lot like Black Opium, but a bit deeper, I do not know how to describe it. This is BO's classy older sister. There is something more potent about this. There is a note in here that reminds me strongly of Flowerbomb, it smelled like Flowerbomb on me. This is sweet too, but this smells much more high end/distinct than Black Opium, and Flowerbomb. Longevity was phenomenal. This has that designer/ high end type of smell to it. I think that if you like Flowerbomb/ or Black Opium, you may really like this. Its very sweet. Wanted a deep vanilla, feeling like this was NOT it. Very sweet and yummy, anyway. I cannot help but to love it. A little powdery, which may turn some people off of it, but its still youthful. The bottle is so pretty, and the lid is extremely heavy, looks nice on display.

coffeebean83

This perfume is one of the few that I didn't like much at all initially. I hadn't smelled anything like it before tbh. I don't get Black Opium at all and in a long line of caramel scents this one is different. It's the combo of the prominent violet note mixed with the caramel with just a hint of bitter coffee that makes this interesting. The overall scent makes me think of mystical elements. Like an enchanted forest or fairy land. It's what I think of every time I smell it. Love it now. Love the vibe. Would repurchase.

Gyps

I just bought this. I’m what is termed a grandma who loves grandma scents. I really dislike perfume that smells like food and steer right away from those types of fragrances. However, this one is nice. Something a bit different and not over the top.

cunt.dracula

This is for those who don't really want to commit to a gourmand scent, cuz there's barely any caramel in this lol it leans on the powdery side. There is a definite coffee note though

Catacal

Sweeter than the orig

Hunnynpink

Sweet creamy fruity and slightly floral. I get sweet orange berries and vanilla on my skin

billycorna

This perfume is 'okay'. I mean, this smells good but smells like every other amber vanilla fragrance :') the only reason I bought a full-sized bottle was because this smells 'real'. You know what I mean? This doesn't feel artificial vanilla, but still the scent is just too plain. if you wear this to a nose of a perfume enthusiast then yes they know it's legit branded but to a nose of non-perfume enthusiast it will not be any special. You can wear a clone of this instead, I'm sure many brands have the exact same smell.

Ferra_Verto

Powdered caramel coffee toffees. Very yummy, but definitely not foodie. Similar to Black Opium, but definitely wears much more powdery.
Perfect for cooler weather, I think this would be too much in the heat.
Nice 'The One' addition.

LSAUG

A caramel coffee and pear body spray. Cheap smelling. No violet. If you like fruity and caramel coffee scents you will probably like this but I find it very generic and boring. I have yet to find a truly good coffee perfume.

Laurus

I did not like this first as I thought it was too sweet and generic on me. But now I found the sample again and I really appreciate it. It is not sweet in juvenile way like LaVie Est Belle but more mature and sophisticated. On me it is not powdery at all and I get all the gourmand notes very well. I suppose I have a body chemistry for this.

shalla.marie

Very Very generic perfumy perfume. Smells vaguely like The One but much sweeter and cheap smelling. No peach. I'm getting burnt sugar and caramel. No powder. Very disappointed.

msbqueen

I got basically no caramel from this - or any sweetness. It smelled super generic floral and uninteresting on me. Disappointing!

DaniBear1121

It's indistinguishable from Black Opium Neon on me. Disappointed.

Caffe_Cola

Way too powdery, not my cup of tea.

fairymeist

I really like this but I don’t understand why everyone says is sweet, to me is absolutely not sweet but rather soapy powdery and floral, interesting…

ConcreteRose

This girl is sweet! I do get the black opium vibes, but she’s more mature and put together. First spray is caramel & coffee to my nose and it’s delicious. Definitely fall winter vibes. Very delectable and my husband loves this.

kimchheng

My current favourite perfume at the moment.

I got this as a tester and i fell in love when i first smelled it. how to describe this, well this perfume is sweet and intimate, but not over sweet like teenage girl candy. this sweetness is very gorgeous and feminine . whenever i wore this i always receive complements that i smell nice.

i will going to purchase another bottle in a larger size this time, definitely going to be with me for a very long time.

Atina365

It’s sweet but not my style.

DPrince01

If you like black opium, this is a more sophisticated version of it. The orange and coffee notes are very prominent to my nose. It is a very citrusy sweet perfume in that respect. Definitely not my style, as I really dislike black opium. Longevity and projection are okay but not great. Overall, there are a lot of better perfumes out there on the market for a similar price tag.

yeesa_

definitely like this more than black opium but dont get too much coffee. Its very sweet and linear scent. When I catch whiffs of this it smells nice although I might have other sweet scents I like more. 8/10

update: its too synthetically sweet and perfumey I dont think id reach for this one

Literaryflower

Like it or not, this scent is exquisite. First spray for me is caramel, coffee, almost wheat…with a slight background of orange blossom. The dry down ends with sugary violets and tranforms to an expensive smelling vanilla-iris. Its incredible and I love it. The compliments I get are astounding, which is a bonus. I get NO patchouli on my skin thankfully. This is nothing like BO to me, which I find to be very linked to tobacco. If you are a fan of Nishane’s HSW, this is its younger, cleaner sister, and HSW its naughtier sibling. The juice is a beautiful color and I can’t get enough.

ShaLion

This is what I expected Prada Candy to be.
The initial spray is a little citric sharp but that gets hushed very quickly by a very dry violet powder.
It starts to shift and sweetens to a darker powdered coffee note. There are moments in the beginning of the dry down where the powder enters “makeup powder” territory. I don’t like that category of scents for me so I pick up on it fast… it doesn’t stay too long- maybe 15 minutes or so- and then it warms and melts into a powdery caramel with hints of coffee.
I see a lot of comparisons here to Black Opium- personally I can’t wear that one; I enjoy it on other people but on me BO has a temper tantrum. This one remains smoother for me throughout the wear. It’s more gentle. A kinder, softer, sweetness that allows me to wear it- rather than the other way around.
On my clothes it remains a little more fruity sweet. It’s almost like two different scents that smell great together.
All in all it’s nice. It’s gentle and sweet. I think the wrong weather might bring out the makeup powder note- but it’s a nice powdery caramel with a hint of bitter coffee to keep it interesting. I like it and I’ve got a couple things i could use it as a pillow for.

broro117

A very one-note, very fleeting candy-sweet scent. For my other young women out there, this feels like the kind of perfume those well-meaning drunk girls in club bathrooms would be doused in. You know, the ones who become a (very) temporary confidant or hype-woman? Shoutout to those girls, but I'm just not the clubbing type.

AkaNeri

Sweet, deep, sexy perfume, but patchouly note is too prominent for me here. I couldn't stop smelling my wrist when I tried it, so it's addictive smell, but kind of outdated? On my skin it reminds me something from the childhood - it dries down to something my granddad had, at least my memory goes in that direction.
Very interesting, but not sure full bottle worthy, though again, it's sooooo addictive!!

Aveline

Been wearing this in the heat this week and it's really behaving well. None of the sharpness I seem to get in the cold.

AmBo

Updated review: I initially loved it, but I'm selling it. It reminds me a less indolic version of Black Opium, but it's too sickly sweet and linear. However, I DO love the intense version.

Perfumerism

This was love at first smell. I loved the sweetness and the mixture of caramel and coffee. After purchasing and wearing this a few times, it started really bugging me. This fragrance goes super powdery with the iris/violet notes. It is INCREDIBLY sweet and quite overwhelming for my taste.

If you like this DNA, try Nishane Hundred Silent Ways! It is a gorgeous sweet fragrance with a delectable drydown.

FreeBeing

**UPDATE** It's been over a year and I tried this again when I found the travel-size spray in the back of a lingerie drawer. I am surprised at how the perfume has aged. I am getting all of the sweet goodness that I first wanted. Thankfully, I have almost the whole thing left!

I just ordered this from Ulta. I procrastinated because I could only find the larger bottle & I cannot commit to that blindly. Finally found a travel-size - hallelujah! - and cannot wait to try it. I came for the caramel, sweet, powdery, and vanilla but I will be happy with just caramel and powdery. These are my favorite things about a fragrance and I have had my heart broken several times in the past few months.

Okey-dokey then... I am sorry to say that this one is a disappointment. Not a HUGE one but, still.

On me, the bergamot and the middle notes take over the base notes I wanted. I get so little caramel that it's almost invisible. There is ZERO vanilla for me. I waited over an hour for it to "develop" and, nope. Nothing.

This is not unpleasant on my skin but it's not anything special. It smells very generic and faint. It's as if I just now used a tester swab for an unimpressive fragrance. This fragrance is a wallflower scent, just standing on the sides and not worthy of attention.

What is really sad is that I got a full bottle of Jessica Simpson's Fancy yesterday - for less than what I paid for the travel size of this - and Fancy is the winner. I am so glad that I didn't splurge on a large bottle of this. I don't know what Ulta's return policy is but...

Kiran4deep

This is best go to scent.. A mature fruity not girly fruity scent.. Caramel mixed with coffee notes are best in this fragrance.. This can be a year around scent.. All day in fall and night out in summers.. You can smell on your clothes for more than one day.. Skin chemistry is different for everyone so I mentioned about clothes only

shewasgarbo

This isn't as bad as some of the reviews here make it sound!

I wouldn't consider The Only One to be a gourmand - at least, it doesn't make me want to sink my teeth into whoever's wearing this, but this is a beautiful fragrance. The bitterness of the coffee balances out the stickiness of the caramel and vanilla, providing a burnt edge, like the scorched edges of a creme brulee. The opening violets and citruses are an interesting counterbalance, though I have no particular opinion for it, other than it tempers everything down a little bit to make the fragrance less in-your-face. Together, this is a great scent for anyone who wants to try something sweeter but doesn't want a toothache. It's actually rather unisex to me, leaning slightly masculine.

Perin_Zambia

This scent is just perfect for me, I love the sweetness especially the caramel in the base. It’s amazingly beautiful

Konest

Very similar to Viva La Juicy Noir. No need to have both if you already own one of them and no need to blind buy one if you know you don't like the other.
It doesn't smell like Black Opium on me.

violetelle

I really wanted to like this but I agree with the reviews that say this is a dupe for Black Opium. They smell similar and overall leave the same impression. I’m not a fan of Black Opium and I’m not a fan of this either. There’s a hint of Parma violets in this which adds nothing imo. It also didn’t last long on me at all.

likesleet

it’s more fruity floral gourmand than amber vanilla. i wouldn’t get this if ur a fan of the bath and body works type caramel. get this if ur a prada candy type caramel fan. not for me, but i don’t think this is bad. the pachouli, violet, and powdery notes etc in both the initial spray and the dry down overwhelm any sweetness.

wondervalley666

Upon spraying, it seemed similar to Black Opium, almost syrupy sweet and boozy in a similar way, but it dries down to quite a different type of scent. When I test sprayed this, I thought it was very caramel fruity, almost like a boozy version of Bon Bon. However, when i wear this it dries down and turns much more powdery on my skin with a bit of that iris makeup scent. I wouldn't recommend this for people who dislike makeup scents. It's much softer than I expected, I need several sprays and two applications to get this to perform like a light skin scent. I can barely find it on my skin after a couple hours. I find a few of my D&G scents are weak performers, but this is probably the softest out of all of them. I find The One series to be quite confusing. I own The One, and LOVE it. The notes do not feel like they match what I smell in that scent at all, though. I wore The One for several months before reading the notes. I would have guessed it's a rich sweet yellow floral fragrance, with amber and honey and NO fruit, though it's actually mostly white florals and fruit. It's also a beast mode performer, a few sprays last hours! I tried The One Essence at one point and had to resell my bottle - it lacked all the lovely floral top notes and was mostly ambery musk that seemed flat, cloying and old fashioned. The Only One doesn't resemble The One at all. It mostly reads as a generic fruity pear and violet+iris on my skin, I'm barely getting any caramel, it certainly doesn't feel gourmand to me. I need to apply nearly a quarter ounce of The Only One to smell it on myself for a couple hours. The Only One Intense is another completely different scent! It reads much more similar to Black Opium than The Only One IMO - it's a syrupy rich boozy vanilla cashmere fragrance, and I get very little to no florals or coconut in it despite being listed as a white floral coconut scent. It requires a heavy application, a dozen or two sprays, but will last 4ish hours on skin and 8+hrs on hair and clothes. I own and have sampled a bunch of D&G scents, some are real winners and others have sent me running in the other direction. I'd caution against blind buying D&G - sample first! I notice most of their scents do not seem to match their notes & frag profiles at all - consistently I'm dumbfounded by the listed notes even though I can pick out notes well in a lot of other fragrances. I'm also unsure as to why they keep releasing different standalone scents under these confusingly named flankers - I ended up accidentally buying a mens version of one of these because the names and bottles were nearly identical. It's odd how this brand can be so hit-or-miss. Anyway, end rant.

SUMMARY: This is a nice fragrance. I can't say it stands out or that it's very special or a must-have addition to a collection. But it's pretty, simple, clean, soft. Safe for office wear. Ideal for people who like super gentle fragrances. I personally think The One is a better fragrance though it smells nothing like this and would appeal to a different type of wearer. I'd recommend The Only One Intense for those who are interested in this scent for the Black Opium vibes, though it smells very different from this scent, TOOI is much closer to Black Opium. I would not recommend this for those who are looking for a rich caramel coffee gourmand scent, despite those listed notes they read as barely there even after I sprayed 3 applications and dumped over a quarter ounce of this on myself. This is better suited for someone who wants a sweet powdery makeup scent.

duaa abed

more girly version of black opium ...🤦♀️
for me this is too juvenile . i thought this would be similar to bonbon v&r😅 but noo bonbon wayy sexier and deeper . i think this sent should be on bonbon shape bottle and bonbon juice in this bottle😂😂

Yessamin

This blend of coffee and violet gives a surprisingly enchanting and hypnotic femenine scent.

The coffee and violet merge to be both bold and soft, hypnotising and familiar. Makes me feel truly unique and confident.

EdP

*loves_shoes*

The best of all of The One line.
Definitely has some sort of booster aromachemical in, maybe ambroxan or something like that.
Projects like crazy, lasts a good length of time too.
Not too sickly sweet but warm and smooth, vanilla, and not too powdery at all.

bells05

It smells warm, sweet and beautiful.. caramel sweet.. and on my skin it doesn't smell like black opium, doesn't share the same dna either. If you looking for a sweet caramel not too girly but mass pleasing this is the only one!

maziarzl

I’m surprised I like this as much as I do. By far my fave from D&G. To me this smells cozy and warm, very sweet.

cocofluff

Update June 2023.
I cannot stand this perfume now. It has become cloying and synthetic.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
- Smelled this on a friend. It was sweet and fruity/citrusy. Big sillage and very nice scent trail too, so I had to buy a small bottle! Smells comforting and cozy! For me, best suited for chilly days in winter.

drazzillion

Boring, over marketed, overhyped, watered down, lacking complexity, and the performance is actually horrible. The scent isn't terrible, but it's just sooooo blah. Don't waste your money.

Gabby314

This is a really beautiful fragrance that I find to be perfect for the winter. The coffee note is really prominent, but the caramel and the violet in this really pushes through helping to make this fragrance sweet on the nose. It's not a heavy scent, but the notes are loud enough to make you stand out when wearing this scent.

Catmo

When first sprayed it was very promising. The coffee and vanilla reminded me a lot of Black Opium. But as it dried down it became fruity. VERY fruity. I just keep getting whiffs of what I'm assuming is pear and maybe orange blossom. I don't hate it- but I prefer Black Opium.

correspondencepersonal

I was at the mall and spritzed The Only One alongside The One - both are good offerings from Dolce & Gabanna.

The Only One smells more versatile and a bit more classic. Compared to "The One" - "The Only One" is more grounding and blended better with my chemistry, it is a lovely fragrance chord on the skin; (The One is an example of a perfume that uses the sweet/sour dynamic. Both share similar Dolce & Gabanna DNA to one of my newest favorites, D&G's L'Imperatrice 3. The Only One and L'Imperatrice 3 are most similar with the sweet/sour dynamic leading the show).

The Only One reminded me a great deal of Estee Lauder's Bronze Goddess Eau du Fraiche, it may be the coconut in the blend. IMO, this is not at all similar to Black Opium, that didn't even come to mind until I read several reviews which mentioned this - although BGEDF was almost spot on, but I would need to try these two side by side to know for sure.

heatshimmr

This scent is beautiful but too mature for me. I can’t put my finger on the notes but it is blended well. Powdery and sweet

Estacey3

This is one of the most unique perfumes I've ever smelt - a complete chameleon scent. At different times you catch different notes. At first it's a caramel latte, then it's a powdery iris, then it's a sweet orange blossom; a while later you'll catch distinct whiffs of vanilla, chocolate and coffee. All these notes sound like they'd be a horrific mess together but this blended so well; what a shapeshifter! Absolutely love this and the bottom sweet notes last on clothes for days that are a bit reminiscent of BR540.

Koningin

It has the black opium vibe but I also kept getting Amon Paris vibes in the dry down.
It’s an okay fragrance but after the first 2 hours it becomes more of a skin scent.

lauraimelda

Unfortunately, I did not get a compliment on this one. Instead I got a "Something smells like rotten fruit."
