Modern Muse Le Rouge Gloss by Estée Lauder is a Chypre Fruity fragrance for women. Modern Muse Le Rouge Gloss was launched in 2016. Top notes are Sour Cherry, Carrot Seeds, Pink Pepper and Mandarin Orange; middle notes are Vinyl, Rose, Leather and Jasmine; base notes are Honey, Vanilla, Saffron, Patchouli, Styrax and Labdanum.

Modern Muse Le Rouge Gloss comes out in August 2016 as a new flanker of Modern Muse Le Rouge (2015), after the Modern Muse Eau de Rouge edition (spring 2016). Le Rouge collection is intended for the self-confident and sexy woman who never passes unnoticed. A bright color red is typical for her style, attitude and undeniable power effect.

Modern Muse Le Rouge Gloss, a lacquer and make-up evoking composition, is enriched with notes of cherry and has an opening with its signature pink pepper note. The heart blooms with rose, representing the color red. The base ends with woody patchouli and sweet vanilla. The target group is women aged 25-45 years.

Again, the face of the campaign is Kendall Jenner. The fragrance will be available as a 30, 50 and 100 ml Eau de Parfum.

In the opening reminded me of the discontined Anglomania Vivienne Westwood. This one is also discontinued. Such a pity.

saho93

It is pretty. I love OG, which I think is divine. This has fruit and is quite sweet. And I get patchouli, which is not my preference. But that accord does not dominate. My nose is not sophisticated enough to detect vinyl. Overall nice; just not my preferred scent profile.

this fragrance makes me smile, it’s so unexpected. vinyl and leather are definitely present, but well tempered (leather is usually horrific on my chemistry, but it stays soft and playful here). the cherry is not artificial, or really the headliner— i wouldn’t smell this and think CHERRY right away. it plays well and doesn’t veer too sweet, which you may imagine a lauder fragrance to do. florals are purely for support and dimension. dry down ends up mostly sweet (but not cloying), plasticky cherry powder, vanilla, honey. still grounded. still clean. I firmly believe this fragrance came before it’s time, and maybe to an audience that wasn’t primed for it (i can see some folks who adore pleasures not getting this one— no shade to pleasures, it’s just different and i’m sure this didn’t sell as well as beautiful belle, the rule of which seems unending). it’s fun, slightly edgy, but still sophisticated and inoffensive since it’s balanced and blended so expertly. She is a fragrance to suit many occasions and contexts. playful but by no means childish. sexy in an intriguing way, not a hyper femme way. I wouldn’t call it a safe blind buy, but its safer than many other fragrances if you’re looking for an offbeat cherry. wish they were still making this one.

One of the best cherry earthy florals. It is the scent of bright sexy red. Amazing!

Creamy_ambrette

If anyone has this and wants to swap/sell (for reasonable price) please PM Me. Thanks :) Edit: I found a gift set for $50 including shipping- 1 oz plus the 4 Ml spray and a gorgeous gloss. I lucked out! Review coming soon!

Blind buy win right here. I realize that cherry fragrances are really popular right now but it's an interesting concept to see cherry being paired with vinyl, leather, and honey. At first, I did get the pipe tobacco scent that people were talking about but that doesn’t stick around very long. There’s a slight plastic lingering in the background but it’s not sickening like I was afraid of. Once this dries down, I find that MMLRG is primarily sweet and there’s also a powdered rosiness that’s beautiful. I am not detecting the lipstick waxiness oddly enough but maybe it will be more pronounced in a different season. I’m happy with the scent as is without the lipstick coming through. This is not a juvenile cherry scent. There’s definitely an underlying, complex maturity here. I love that this isn’t a soliflore and I appreciate the intricate layers created within this scent. Layering this with Zara’s Cherry Smoothie really enhances the sweetness but you can absolutely layer this with plenty of other scents to project what you like most in it. Longevity and sillage have been a little better than average so far. Of course this is discontinued, another hidden gem that is gone far too soon before people really get to enjoy it. WHY?!? If you can find this, get it! This has to be one of the best cherry fragrances out there that I have tried. It’s not too sweet or sour, just perfectly balanced 🍒

Ok, what is going on, I LOVE an Estee Lauder perfume?! Wait, what do you mean it's already discontinued?! 🤦🏼😭 I feel like a huge dope, because this little red bottle has been sitting on my dresser for YEARS. I got a mini free from somewhere, probably Sephora, and slept on it all this time bc I generally think of EL as boring and on the mature side. This is neither! I've been trying to use things I don't reach for as often, and saw this one mentioned on Reddit, so decided to wear it yesterday, with low hopes, and omg, it's so good. Definitely could pass for niche, and it lasts too.

I have kind of a love/hate thing with cherry, love real cherries, but usually dislike artificial cherry flavor, and have had a hard time finding a perfect cherry perfume. This is my perfect cherry perfume. I have Prada Candy Gloss, nice but too simple and light, and disappears too quickly. I have a sample of Guerlain Black Perfecto, and do really like that one too, it reminds me of this one, but my husband thought it was too powdery. This one, pulled a compliment from him. Also sampled Escada Cherry In Japan, which is probably even more simple and light than the Candy Gloss, boring, disappointing. I also have a decant of Poison Girl, can't remember if that actually has cherry or just reminds me of Candy Gloss, but I do like it better than CG, just not as much as MMLRG or GBP. I haven't yet smelled Lost Cherry or Burning Cherry, a little scared off by the reviews.

This, though, wow! When I first sprayed it, there was something slightly challenging about it, though I didn't mind bc it kind of reminded me of something I used to wear and love as a teenager, maybe resins mixed with jasmine, vanilla, and patchouli? It pretty quickly settles down to something complex and sexy, a little edgy, but delicious. I'd guess it would be fairly universally pleasing after dry down, aside from those who hate sweet frags. Anyway, I'm trying to shop for new decants, and all I can focus on is the whiffs I keep getting of this, thinking about whether I can afford to get a bottle from Ebay so I don't have to stop smelling like this, so I figured it deserved a review. Luscious cherry and rose, darkened up just enough by everything else, a little spicy, a little sensual, they really got it right. I feel like this would be equally at home at a rock show, a casual date night, or a fancy event, and can see myself wearing it year round, but it definitely shines right now in cold weather. Hope they see the error of their ways and rerelease it for us!

Edit: Today, I decided to try an experiment. I sprayed Candy Gloss on first, then just added a couple sprays of this, one on my arms and one on my neck. I don't usually wear the CG on its own, partly bc it's boring, partly bc it doesn't last, but this combination is really nice! The MMLRG adds depth, complexity, sensuality and staying power. The CG allows the MMLRG to stretch farther, and really amps the cherry note! Somehow, the combination is quite delectable! It pushes the feel from a slightly gourmand oriental to more of a full on gourmand that is still interesting, recommend trying if you happen to have both! Also, the frag I wore in my teens that I get something reminiscent of in the opening is Yves Rocher Venice, though that one was probably a bit heavier and not exactly the same, I think it's the resins, vanilla, etc. That one is sadly long discontinued.

Get your hands on this fast as you can! This is fantastic rose cherry and vinyl creation and is the best (close to niche) scent Estée Lauder has made! I love this it is such a great not like everything else on the market fragrance. Rose, carrot seed plus the vinyl play a big part in this. the longevity is not the greatest but it works. Sillage is at arms length. I do get pink pepper in the drydown. This is a great fragrance for winter and spring. It to me wouldn’t work in the summer. Highly Recommended 10/10 I know Estée Lauder is discontinuing some of their fragrances 🫤 so run don’t walk to get your hands on this!

piahellgren

Furget about it; this is THE best cherry perfume ever! Oh, my!

Gyps

Wow 🤩 I bought this as a blind buy based on the reviews here and it’s just divine! I have a very small sample bottle of the OG, which I don’t really care for as I can’t really smell it, so this was an enormous surprise. Stunning fragrance and well worthy of a back up bottle 💃

Bundae

Have a 75% full bottle I'm willing to part with - just pm me! It just doesn't vibe for me any more; bought it about 2018 as far as I remember, and now I've outgrown the scent.

ambiplasma

I often go through phases with this fragrance, as I’ve found it’s quite easy to go nose blind to (this may be due to the fact that I’ve been wearing it constantly for the last 5 years rather than anything to do with the formula).
I find the rose note lovely, and I definitely get a lot of the leather/vinyl notes mentioned; because of this I love wearing this with a nice leather jacket and boots.
I was incredibly disappointed to find this had been discontinued as I believe it was the most unique offering from the modern muse line, and I bought multiple back up bottles. If you can find this for a good price, I would definitely recommend picking up a bottle.

suile1

I adored this one, and got through three bottles. Obviously, it is now discontinued. Liked all of EL's Muse line, but this was my favourite. Fruity, rose, vinyl, leather, very modern, sensual but lively too. Couple of sprays was enough to last all day.

Sanrio

Rose is at the forefront. I expected a fruity scent with some rosy nuances, but it's just the opposite.

Rose with a hint of waxiness/lipstick and some tart cherry in the background. Definitely has a sweetened patchouli base but it's not overwhelming. I must say, I get no leather. I don't feel like anything in here is "vinyl" but perhaps the waxiness I smell (I associate it with iris) is the vinyl note.

8/10. Very unique considering it's an affordable designer option. Good longevity. Delicious slightly powdery dry down.

mirrorghost

i get sour cherry with hints of orange and rose at first. later on i get some leather, vinyl, resins and honey which anchor the scent a bit more. it gets more orange and floral on me as time goes on. dries down to mostly cherry, orange and rose. i thought the vinyl would be more prominent but on my skin it's more of a background note.

PenelopePitstopKYD

I have this and Queen by Queen Latifah (red bottle) and if they're not identical, I don't know what is!

Here are the notes they have in common...

Top note (1): Mandarin Orange | Middle Notes (2): Jasmine and Rose | Base Notes (2): Patchouli and Vanilla. Is that a dupe or what? Basically, I think, the above notes in common is probably what I'm smelling.

Hate that Queen has skyrocketed in price but glad I was able to find this at a yard sale for a great bargain!

Stoicchild

I want this perfume! Smells like an expensive Red Lipstick, very dressy. It gives you a Hollywood Red Carpet feeling.

Aromantra

Wow this is stunning! Never judge a book by it's cover, or in this case, a flanker by it's title.

This is a sophisticated tart cherry-centric fragrance with lovely companion notes. The vinyl note is so well done & adds a great dimension to it (without smelling too synthetic). It's a fruity floral chypre with great resinous undertones. MM LRG is crisp, flirty, sweet & unique. Cool & edgy but also very sensual. Almost edible, but not quite a gourmand. The dry down is really beautiful and turns into a soft romantic vanilla-based 2nd skin. I keep sniffing my arm after spraying, it's an addictive scent. Super vampy, makes you wanna get a cool haircut! :)

Perfect for autumn/winter and appropriate for ladies of all ages. This could easily be a niche perfume. My only critique is that I wish it was a stand alone fragrance and had a better name... One of my best blind buys to date. I highly recommend trying it and getting your hands on a bottle.

GoldieHue

This is a strange perfume in my opinion, but it is only my first day trying it. Strange. Three weeks later; I am a fan! A must!

louiee

Cherry, rose , patchouli and vinyl. Very well done scent. I wear it on special occasion in cooler weather. Aumtumn is the perfect season for this one. Leather jacket, heels and red lipstick. Very femme fatale and unique.

Projection and silage about moderate on me.

Love this cherry treasure🍒

TheAliGonzo

Recently sampled both Rose Prick and Lost Cherry from Tom Ford. I had Lost Cherry on and could smell Rose Prick wafting from sample card...this smells like that experience...the solid midway point between Lost Cherry and Rose Prick... it's crazy that this isn't blowing up in the community because of that.

Babieluv

I'm not a fan of cherry at all, in fact it's one of my least favorite notes, but this is just stunning and so unique. Why it got discontinued is beyond me. I wore this today (fall time) with some leather jacket with power shoulders and felt very bad ass, haha. Yes, cherry is prominent, but it is so well blended with vinyl (that gives out a bit of a gasoliny vibe, but not in a bad way), leather and rose. It's not your typical fruity scent, not a safe blind buy and definitely makes a statement.

Elsee

I invited this scent out to play with all the others today. WOW. What a cherry smoke bomb this is! It gets more tender as time goes by but it is so alluring. It's starting to get cool these days and this has a holiday vibe...or maybe more of the parties that happen at holiday time. The parties we have all missed over the past 18 months. Fun, fun and more fun.

Ladies, if you have a bottle of this -- reinvent yourselves and wear it proudly with some stillettos and red lipstick. It all goes together beautifully!

Enjoy and happy fall!!

Modern Muse Le Rouge Gloss was launched in 2016, and was a little ahead of the current cherry trend.

It’s like a less sweet Rouge Smoking with added rose and vinyl. The most prominent notes are a non-sweet cherry, smokey rose, vinyl and a drop of honey. There is patchouli but it’s very subtle.

It’s synthetic, but on purpose, just like Gucci Rush. I like this scent very much for the image it provokes; pin-up lipstick, leather jackets and rock music. It’s not a standard designer offering at all, and stands out in the Modern Muse line.

Chaauvux

My secons blind buy project: SUCCEEDED
I cant be more happy with this: loving from the first time wearing. I have always lived for the combo of rose and leather notes urrrghh so damn sexy but I havent had any cherry 🍒 one in my collection. The only one that I knew was from Tom Ford and its so controversial. Some said it’s great some said it aint. That scares me a lot so I tried to dig in and found a better/ stronger substitute! I can feel the cherry and the vinyl giving a vibe here! It’s definitely stronger than the Tom Ford. The fact that I loved the modern muse- original but I had so many white floral notes made me reconsider about purchasing it or another one in the line. Thank Perfume Gods for guiding me to buy the one for me!
💫 Highly recommended 💫

Project Nostalgia

I've only just received this so it's very much a first impression but this is stunning. I've had 2 bottles of Le Rouge which is also beautiful, the lotion especially. I heard that a lot of the Modern Muse line was being discontinued, now the prices have nose dived so I thought it's now or never to finally try Le Rouge Gloss.
I've never had a cherry scent before, so this is definitely something new to my collection.
Cherry is most definitely in the top notes. I find the vinyl note quite addictive - it reminds me of the smell of make up. Once the top notes have dried a little you get the Le Rouge DNA coming through. Le Rouge is still sexy, but this is sexier. Gloss is the rebel sibling wearing fishnets, a PVC coat and red lipstick.
Cannot wait to wear this in colder weather on a night out.

anni_cola

I had to pass this fragrance along, however I will admit it was very interesting. To me it invokes a time, picture 1950's greasers in a cherry red Cadillac with girls in the back seat wearing letterman jackets. Cherry lip gloss, leather, and even some smokiness. It did not pull sweet on me at all, La Petite Rose Noire was sweeter, and simply wasn't what I was looking for. I am a bit jealous of those who get the sweetness with the rest of the mix, as it sounds like a dream.

Msgreenpebble

I really love this! It just hits this (pardon the pun) really hard to pull off sweet spot of real warm vinyl, carroty iris and slightly tart delicious cherry while being easy to wear and dare I say both flirty and composed. My mind conjures up my purple waxed Mathmos lava lamp and how relaxing it is to spend some time watching its warm, soft and unctuous wax do its thing! Both because of this and the vinyl I get a really smooth 60s slightly kitsch and camp bedroom vibe a la Dark Shadows with some Cream playing in the background on a worn out record and a positive and bouncy attitude toward the future. But hey that could just be me! I also agree with the references to Black Perfecto which I also love but I am very happy to have both as the mood is different enough to justify. This one is a little more skin-sensual. I have loved reading all the reviews of this one, so much revelry in this winner from Estee Lauder x

perfumeaddiction

What an absolutely wonderful surprise and blind buy! I had the original modern muse And did not care for it. This one is so much better. I do get a little bit of petite robe noir But that was another one I could not wear and I just don’t know why. This one is different it’s very special. I am getting the cosmetic smell. I absolutely love the bottle it’s at a fantastic price point. It’s not too youthful or two dated it’s just perfect. Highly recommended! It is sweet so if you like sweet fragrance is you may not like it but it is not sickly sweet like some of the fragrances that were pretty big in the past two years.💕💕💕

Madyana

Cherry is perhaps the most difficult note for me and I've been looking for this baby for soo long!
I wanted a cherry that wouldn’t resemble cheap vanilla, bitter almonds, medical oud or chemical plastics, plus I really don’t like licorice.
After all( I thought I was Crazy) I ended up blindly buying a scent with sour cherry and vinyl. ...how could this go wrong?😂
I read a lot of reviews and trusted Estee Lauder; an old house that publishes great scents. I don’t think Lauder would go easy and publish something like Joop Le Bain. And now, don’t get me wrong, I have that Joop and I love it. I just wanted something else for my dearest cherry and stay in this price range too.
Also, I think this is such an old publication that it is not yet on that oriental train where the scent has to fill the whole room.

And I was absolutely right. This scent is soo Perfect! Really cherry on my cake.
This review became a little different; not a word about what the scent is, but more about what it is not... But you understand what I mean.

elshoobie

To me, this is a spicy, cherry flavoured Pez candy crushed and mixed with a smooth vanilla cake icing mix, and I’m likin’ it 🍒

brumbarche

I find the neoprene/vinyl note here enjoyable and sometimes it occurs to me to layer it with Black Perfecto for extra depth (as this one feels sheerer in comparison). But I never get to do this - I forget, then I remember again :)) Le Rouge Gloss is a sound like for me, and gives me this feminine black leather jacket feeling, which I also get from another patchouli-based perfume - Diesel Fuel for Life (pour femme).

mmachaira

Modern indeed, and unconventionally sweet, with great longevity. I can picture this in a rock concert and in a playground too! Very good option for winter and autumn, where the patchouli gives more earthy vibes to the whole impression. Not much of a development though. Certainly a "like"!

comingtobe

I get cherry flavored candy and vinyl combination mostly.
Uplifting and optimistic, but monotonous.

karlee79

Very similar to Queen Latifah in the red bottle

danygurl06

When I first sprayed this I didn’t really like it. It was smelling weird. Then it settled on my skin. Once it settled, the vinyl note started to appear. Also, it’s not quite cherry on my skin but it’s red flavored. The vinyl notes smells like walking into a automotive store with lots of new tires. When I smell my wrist, i imagine red tires. I would love for my car to smell like this. It not as good as the actual plastic smell of a new car but it’s better than car fragrance that mimics the new car smell.

On my skin, this fragrance is not sweet or tart. It smells like scented plastic. I’m not sure if this fragrance is for me but I enjoy the smell.

I need to test this on paper or fabric. I might just invest in a bottle for my car if it smells similar to how it does on skin.

ntabassum92

My mother and I both really enjoy this perfume. We bought her a perfume set of Modern Muse Le Rouge Gloss during a Christmas sale one year - she used the 1 oz. bottle and I got to use the tiny little 4 mL spray mini. It is so darn cute. I told her to buy it because I liked Modern Muse Le Rouge, so assumed I'd enjoy this one as well. Plus, the red glass...I mean <3

I've been wearing it all summer, whenever I leave the house to feel a little more dressed up and special in this strange time, even if we're just going to the grocery store. I smell rose in this perfume more than anything else. It's a sweet, powerful, powdery, musky, makeupy but also plasticky rose. Which might sound horrible, but it just works. All the notes are there, suede, vinyl, even sour cherry, but they just all work together to create this fantastic rose note, to my nose. I can't pick them out individually. Patchouli is definitely here, but again, I can't smell it directly, I just know it's there because this perfume has the heft of a patchouli heavy floral. I can also smell the patchouli on its own far in the drydown, after I've taken a shower.

You might think I'm crazy for wearing this in summer - but the sweet fruity nature of this perfume is actually really well suited for hotter weather. It really lifts off the skin in humid hot air, in a beautiful way, and it lasts. Sweet and sour, perfect rose. Yum.

pleasuretoburn

What an interesting and unexpected perfume from such a historic company. I would never have expected EL to make anything this daring or unique, in all honesty. The cherry and vinyl are the most prominent smells, and in the beginning the vinyl is almost off-putting. The vinyl screeches initially, like the scratch of a needle first dropping onto a record, but it mellows to something a lot more tolerable pretty quickly. My husband and I collect vinyl records, and the vinyl note really does resemble the scent of a freshly opened new vinyl record. It's not dusty vintage vinyl, it is a newly pressed warm record. The cherry combined with vinyl gives it a bit of a waxy lipstick feel, which I also appreciate, because I am a lipstick collector as well. The packaging is cute and different, and it fits with the scent inside. Translucent vinyl records do exist, and this is exactly what they should smell like. I think the flanker-of-a-flanker business is pretty silly, but I also don't know how EL would've fit this into their lineup otherwise. I usually go to punk shows at small, slightly dingy clubs, and this is the scent I will wear when that's possible again. One spray is enough for normal wear, and for a night out kind of vibe, I would probably do 2-3. More than that would suffocate most likely.

CJ1991

The more I use this the more perfect it gets. Although there's a unique cherry and vinyl note they're not the ones that shine for me. It's actually the patchouli! I can never pull off patchouli, it usually smells like stale wee on my skin...bit this...ah it's exactly like what I want it to be on my skin! Warm with a little sweetness and spice. Can't get enough of it!

Bee-young-ka

I took a while to buy this, but its wonderful, sweet yes but not cloying. it's honey and roses and lipstick and yes... vinyl.

Red lipstick and black leather jackets.

I dislike all the muse offerings except for this and Nuit
This is my winter scent for 2020.

scent 8/10

labonvie

This is pure fun, in the same territory as Lolita Lempicka Sweet. I don’t like the original Modern Muse or the Rouge flanker but this flanker of a flanker is the best of the bunch. I’ve been on a lipgloss/lipstick scent kick lately (Lipstick Rose, Moulin Rouge, Baiser Fou, Drole de Rose, Sweet). It’s not sticky sweet and the hint of vinyl prevents this from veering into preteen body splash territory. It most reminds me of a subtler version of La Petite Robe Noire Black Perfecto, minus the Guerlainade. This is not complicated, but it’s fun and easy to wear and inclusively youthful, meaning that anyone can wear this and feel young and carefree. Too bad it’s discontinued. Maybe Estee can make a flanker of a flanker of a flanker— Modern Muse Le Rouge Gloss Intense? I’d buy it.

ibanana

The most unique scent I've ever encountered! It is addictive and sexy and also comforting and alluring. Super balanced sweet/spicy. This is my signature winter time scent. I fell in love with it when it first came out and I've never been without. Cherry and vinyl are there from the first spray until the very end. I had Modern Muse Le Rouge and it was very pretty but not my style, as I am not a huge rose fan. This Gloss version is much better for me.

Austrian_in_Denmark

Within my rather big collection, Le Rouge Gloss is one of my favourite scents. I absolutely love this one.
It starts with strong, tart and sweet cherry that later turns into a cherry-rose-mix. The vinyl is very noticeable, as is the leather, the vanilla and the patchouli.
Strong sillage, and stays for 6-8 hours.

I love cherry, and this scent reminds me a little of Aromatics Black Cherry. However, while Aromatics Black Cherry is soothing and a little meditative, Le Rouge Gloss is happy, kinky, kitschy and somehow luminiscent.
This is a perfume where the packaging goes with the content.

The Modern Muse series as a whole is less consistent and actually baffles me a little. I have tried most flankers and like or even love them all. But they do not smell similar to me (apart from Modern Muse and Modern Muse Chic - here I note some similarities).
If I had smelled Le Rouge Gloss without knowing what it is, I would have guessed that it is an experimental and high-priced niche scent. In no way would I have placed this as a flanker of the original Modern Muse.

kayleenanncooke

Wow this is beautiful and very sexy. Cherry is a sexy smelling fruit. This is so retro too. Beautiful cherry lipstick vibes with a hint of leathery plastic vinyl smell. It's hard to explain, but if you're a cherry lover this does not disappoint. I wish I'd have bought a full size bottle. It starts off with huge sillage then it fades into mild sillage after an hour or so but it is definitely still there on the skin. I find that cherry scents aren't always "long lasting" to people because the cherry note fades faster than other notes. That doesn't mean that perfume isn't a long-lasting, that just means that the cherry note wore off and you're left with the base notes. After 2 hours the cherry morphs into rose. After three hours you're left with leathery powdery makeup smell. Then sadly she is gone within 6 hours.

Apiaceae

Such a stunner. Forced myself not to buy it until it actually found me. That vinyl is so good. It's like a good girl gone BDSM, but in a fashionable way. Cherry is one of my favourite notes. I looked at it very innocently before but now I don't know any more. Unexpected and cool! (also easy to wear)

who.am.i.you

Just bought a back-up (both 1 oz). Already used about 1/5 of the bottle I purchased not even a week ago. It's unique to me. It's like a blend between a lipstick and a leather scent, but I suppose it is the vinyl that gives it those qualities. It is sweet, but a juicy sweet, and not sugary. It's a deep cherry, leathery, but slightly powdery and gritty scent with a hint of freshness. There are many facets to it and love it! If you enjoy MAC Ruby Woo, Bvlgari Black, Lipstick On, Rob Cavalli Gold for Her, and similar scents to those, I think you'd like this as long as you like patchouli and rose as well.

Silvuna

This is a beauty, weird one but stunning. This what I was imagining Mon Paris would be like. I get distant cherry, vinyl and new leather notes combined together. I like it a lot. :-)))

stardust808

Oh. My. WORD! Cherry?! VINYL!? I almost jumped off of the couch when I saw these glorious notes! I need this in the worst way!

trillav

MASTERPIECE! One of my favorites of all time and I have hundreds of perfumes. This is totally niche...the vinyl note....cherry...plasticy....simply stunning, I can't get enough. This was a LOVE at first sniff for me. It is no doubt a 5/5, not sure why the rating is only 3 point something on here...this could easily be Tom Ford. Heck, this is what Lost Cherry wanted to be! If in doubt...buy this as they have discontinued it...I'm stocking up.

mevans

What a combination, cherry, leather and rose. Wow. This is awesome, unique, and sexy. Sweet without being gourmand. Sexy without being cheap. I love it and have a backup bottle already.

peace.love.masha

Neon street signs, big city lights and disco music thumping from night clubs. Black leather jacket, red lipstick, smokey eyes and tequila rising in the blood. She is inferious, just like Modern Muse Le Rouge Gloss.

A very interesting composition of rose, but not your typical boring rose, high-end makeup, maraschino cherries, leather and vanilla. A very fun note of vinyl was added, a reference to modern world where everything is plastic and “it’s fantastic”.

Does anyone else get a vibe of Mouline Rouge or is it just me?

I absolutely love this scent. It's perfect for the late summer. Where I live, the perfume counter at the mall used to carry all the Modern Muse variations but stopped for some reason. So when I decide on buying this, I will have to order it on the internet or drive 2 hours to Dillard's perfume counter in Phoenix, Arizona. I love a perfume that really becomes apart of me but at the same time announces my presence but only ever so delicately and not at all intrusively. That's what this perfume does for me. I can't stop smelling it on my wrist when I wear it. I would only wear this one in the late summer, after Midsummer and before fall equinox.

Edit: Another unfortunately discontinued perfectly beautiful perfume.

Tigi

To me she is a delicate, sheer, light, sweet and softly creamy, almost like spun air with delicate cherry adorning slick, shiny vinyl, smoothed with buttery suede and sweetened with rich honey. The overall body of this fragrance gives me the impression that this could be the quirky cousin of MMM's iconic Lipstick On (in fact, my SO mistook this for Lipstick On once when I was wearing Le Rouge Gloss). Anyway, I think this unique combination of notes is glorious and adore the final result.
Performance (longevity, projection, and sillage): Moderate
Value: Sucks ONLY because this little gem has already been discontinued!!! what on earth were you thinking, Estee Lauder???
Fragrance: 9/10 I just adore her.

KateElizabeth

A sweet, fun, flirty scent that’s perfect for someone in their early 20s. No mystery or intrigue with this one, just plain old fruity-sweet perfume. While it would work on any woman, of course, it doesn’t have much depth and I couldn’t see it being particularly interesting to someone more mature.

I received the Modern Muse Le Rouge Gloss a little over a year ago as a gift and it has set in my perfume collection because d didn't like it at all. I have worn it more within the past couple months and this perfume has truly grown on me. I'm not a huge fan of patchouli and it is very prominent throughout the perfume. It is very strong and at first, I couldn't get past the patchouli to smell any other notes. Now I can smell the cherry, vinyl, leather, and carrot seed but they are subtle; some more than others. All of the rest of the notes are absolutely hidden in this perfume on my skin. I do get about five hours of wear out of this perfume, which is more than enough for me. While it has grown on me now that I can smell more than the overlying patchouli it is not something I will purchase.

When I was a kid, the local drugstores all had a ‘tobacco aisle’, the way they have a gum/candy aisle now. Rather than being sold behind the counter, cigarettes, cigars, rolling papers, loose tobacco, and even pipes were on display and sold openly.

The loose tobacco - we always called it pipe tobacco - was usually a small section at one end of the aisle. I remember there being a cherry-esqe scent in the air over that spot. We kids liked that smell so much we made a point of running through that aisle specificly, on our way toward the candy and toys.

I picked up the bottle of Le Gloss at the Estee Lauder counter while absentmindedly awaiting my purchase to be wrapped, but was instantly transported back to a sunlit five-and-dime and the cheerful scent of cherry pipe tobacco wafting around me.

Kooking4

Estee Lauder always makes fragrances with good quality that worth the price and i liked this one with the leather and sweetness

vandaeho

It's all cherry in warm weather, unbearably sweet. But... in cold days... oh my!!!... Absolute winner! So, I am happy now - winter is comming:)

kumquat2

This is amazingly beautiful. I smell a rich, jammy rose, a stunning cherry, vinyl and some citrus. The other notes are indistinct to my nose, but the whole works and is just flat out gorgeous. Sweet and thick seeming, dark. Longevity on me is about four hours. I can smell it when I move, even when it seems faint nose to wrist. All in all it's currently my favorite perfume. I enjoy it more than Prada Candy Gloss, which is too tart and sharp to be a Love, and even more than Mancera Wild Cherry which is another strong love. And the price blows me away. If you love cherries, get it. It's a cherry bomb.

glitterfalls84

I was on my bed and that inspired me to write a review for this perfume. To start off with, I prefer this perfume to the regular Modern Muse Le Rouge perfume. My nose immediately picks up on that pepper note in the regular perfume and I'm just not that wild about pepper notes in perfumes. I realize this perfume has a pepper note and I don't even smell it here. The first thing my nose smells is that vinyl note. What a unique note to add to a perfume! It might be strange to a lot of people, I must admit I really do like the note. That note transfers to the rose note. It's a beautiful, sweet smelling rose. And like what I was saying for Mariah Carey's M perfume, this is the perfect perfume to wear when you're going to bed. I know I wore this perfume a couple of nights ago and I can still smell traces of it on the sheets. I like it enough to replace the bottle when it runs out.

adrienn99

very clever marketing - referring to the vinyl note here - some perfumes smell like plastic but then this one really owns it :)

smells like an alcoholic cocktail with some berry liquor ..

apple_melon

What a sweet charming scent! IMO it is very similar to Prada Candy Gloss, just less sweet, and I get roses in the middle note, whereas in Prada Candy Gloss it is sweeter with almonds in its middle note. This perfume is sweet and suitable for woman in her 20s. I love it!

Cathped

I feel that I have smelled this many times before. Not a very unique scent. I didnt like the original Modern Muse, but this is better than that one. I think it is generic. I feel its a Sweet patchouli combo that has been done by many parfume houses.

stacia79

I didn't think I was going to like this one because cherry notes in perfume (really, cherry scented anything) usually disagrees with my sensibilities. How surprised I was to enjoy Le Rouge Gloss. The cherry accord is blended really well with the vinyl and leather notes, the honeyed vanilla and the patchouli. The effect is very much like a Chapstick in a leather purse. The vinyl note is much more pronounced than it is in YSL Parisienne, which is great because if you're gonna do it then I say go big or go home. Pepperflower has a great review, saying this is the smell of hashtags and Instagram filters. Yes! Absolutely! This smells like the perfect YouTube beauty vlogger, so perfect you'd be afraid to touch her. My personality is way too raw to get away with this scent on the regular but I appreciate it for the art. Too bad Estee Lauder can't be bothered to credit the nose behind it.

keoncharles27

I get a sweet cherry rose scent from this with a definite vinyl scent( like a record fresh out the sleeve) with a light leather drydown.

MoreScentsThanDollars

Sampling from a mini sent to me from a lovely swap mate.
A big love for me this one.
A pretty cherry rose, nothing mind blowing, to be honest but I very much love her. It's hard to explain because really it's just sweet and cherry berry type scent but is very appealing to and long lasting, I had to get a big bottle.
A great scent if you love super sweet cherry berry like I do. ❤

gardencat13

I’ve read about this a few times and thought it sounded intriguing so today when I noticed a tester on a store shelf I gave it a try. I almost always try on paper first, and only then on my wrist but, having seen it mentioned so often on here I just picked the bottle up and blasted my wrist. I’ve got to say that the sprayer delivered a powerful and wet blast rather than the gentle mist that some bottles dispense.

In a matter of seconds I regretted the action. I found it strong, sweet, overpowering with a weird plastic smell. Once I got home I washed my wrist but didn’t succeed in getting rid of all the scent. What was left was wonderful. Sweet/tart cheery with a light and wonderful touch of vinyl...yum. And, despite being washed off, I continued getting lovely wafts of it for the next couple of hours. Now I’m wondering, if I bought this, and sprayed it on before my shower, instead of after as I do with my other perfumes, could I recreate this much lighter and delicious effect?

kasey_skywalker

This scent is badass. Expertly blended and the most unique fruity-floral I have experienced. Great sillage and longevity. I only wish I had gotten this one in the fall instead of spring.
The scent pyramid is really accurate for this one. I smell mostly cherry (not cloying or synthetic on me) with rose, vinyl, suede, vanilla, and patchouli. Great perfume.

Edit: if you are wanting this because you think it will smell like makeup or lipstick, I personally feel like you should look elsewhere.

Zackkcaz

Happy I found this clouded game player gem. It reminds me of one of my moms out of dated expensive, but still functional lipsticks. Opens a bit out dated with a Classy 80S feel that wears off in a few moments. Becomes more monderan does (not really the scents listed on the page here besides the vinyl) which is awesome. Does not last long! BUT. And yes BUT it is a hider. it pops up again and again for hours out of the blue. You get nice waves of the scent though out the day. It plays games with you. It is fun and a keeper.

lmwimsatt

This smells like a brand new car. This pyramid is so rock n roll! That record note is so dope. I've always loved the smell of vinyl so much I just wanted to eat it. This reminds me of its rival candy gloss

kgallagher

Can it be true? A lipstick scent that is cheap and my husband complimented me on three times yesterday? Time to buy backups!!!!

HelenaZ

This is the hottest perfume in the world ever, vinyl leather dark cherries and lipstick, love it!!!

Nuitdenoel

I have been wearing this since June of 2017 (it is Feb. 2018) and I still absolutely love this! This is still dark cherry and leather with that unique vinyl top note (which doesn’t last long).
The drydown is this darkly beautiful combination of cherry, dark red rose, and patchouli that reads as *almost* chocolate but this is not gourmand. I wear it often in the spring and summer but it’s what I picture that vampy vixen of the late night screen, Elvira, wearing.

huggiemcguire

I picked this up as a blind buy thinking that it was another version of Modern Muse and I ended up liking this a lot. Looking at the notes listed above, I was sort of skeptical that I would enjoy it. I have a difficult body chemistry and some scents can present very wrong on my skin. However, I love leather and cherry and vanilla and this is a very good representation of all 3 on my skin.

While wearing it this weekend it brought to mind a wonderful memory of me looking through my moms well loved leather handbag for change to buy candy. And coming across a wonderful smell of leather, Smiths Brothers cherry cough drops and a warm unidentifiable perfume probably from her handkerchief.

This is going into my forever favorites as good feelings and good scents are fantastic parings.

gabbi4god

LOVE!

This is a very nice fragrance that GoingBlonde sent me. I'ts almost as sweet as she! I do love it with its plastic lipstick or gloss I should say vibe. Thank you very much for the bottle I will use the heck out of it! ha ha

Give this one a try you wont regret it. I think it is the best flanker of the bunch.

Lilacs&Lavender

I tried Modern Muse on one elbow and Gloss on the other. I can smell the MM heritage in Gloss, but it really has it's own, much bigger personality. I definitely smelled the vinyl - it's odd. Not unpleasant, but I can't say that I really want to smell like old records. I need to wear this a lot more to really decide what I think of it. I suspect this is a slow burner and I may come to love it. I'll need to decide quickly if I want to buy it, if it has been discontinued. I think that would be a mistake on Estée Lauder's part. This is so different to other fragrances around that it's uniqueness cluld get quite a following given enough time, which, you would think, equals sales???

Perfumeaddict777

I Blind bought this perfume just recently and I love it I think it's gorgeous! It's very unique and smells different than what I imagined. I'm surprised that it's discontinued already. At first spray I get a lot of black cherries and a strong vinyl note. I actually really like the vinyl note , it makes this smell fun , different and sexy. The first 10 minutes is Cherry vinyl and slowly a waxy almost like a Vaseline smell comes through and that's when it starts to smell like lip gloss. I know that doesn't sound appealing but it really does work. 20 minutes later I can smell leather and Rose along with the Cherry. All the vinyl has disappeared by this time. After an hour of wearing this it becomes very creamy, the vanilla mixes with cherry and leather and it reminds me a lot of Givenchy damask Rose. The vanilla note is absolutely gorgeous alongside the Cherry and leather. Sillage starts off strong and then it sits close to the skin after the first 15 minutes but still noticeable when I move or the wind catches it. It's very lovely and I'm glad to have added this to my collection. For all of you who are into layering try layering it with Lolita sweet, it's a perfect combination bringing out the Cherry notes and adding a little more sweetness to it. Longevity seems to be around 4 hours.

Happyme2009

One of the best things Estée Lauder came up with lately , I wonder why they chose to discontinue this one while keeping in regular production other Modern Muse scents from the series which are much more ordinary and kind of boring, please forgive me if you disagree,
I suppose this didn’t quite “ catch” , as it has a distinct “niche “quality to it and it isn’t a crowd pleaser. You need to be open minded to novelty to enjoy this.
It’s sassy and sexy, but manages to stay classy. The vinyl and rose combo is rather surprising , while the suede is supporting the combo with a soft animatic note . The cherry is not fruity fresh but reminds of maraschino cherries, without being too sweet.
The silage and lasting power are both good, and the red bottle is a pleasure to look at.
Definitely the the best Modern Muse .

osy2017

This is my favorite out of this Modern Muse line. Very intense, reminds me of some Tom Ford. Cherry is one of my favorite notes, and in this one it is very dominant along with red pepper. Indeed it is very modern cherry and pepper. Long lasting on me.

arwa hussein

OMG love it to the moon !!
this perfume is a master piece rich unique sassy , spicy leathery sweet mysterious and sexy luxurious .
wear it if you dare .

PurpleIris49

This reminds me of “Queen” by Queen Latifah with less projection and longevity and not as much vanilla. It is a lovely scent, and I am aware of patchouli, vanilla, fruit and labdanum. I get no leather or vinyl. I like this much better than the original Modern Muse, just wish it was a bit stronger. Very nice as a fall and winter treat and currently for sale at Marshall’s. I like this very much.

WildDove

Modern Muse Le Rouge Gloss is very much like Le Rouge, but Le Rouge Gloss is more synthetic and projects more. I really don't get the cherry as such. I prefer the original Le Rouge that is softer, mellower, and stays closer to the body.

SailorV

It's unfortunate that this is a flanker of a flanker of a white floral/musk fragrance. It has nothing in common with the original Modern Muse, and it's way too good to be hidden away behind that stupid long flanker name. The red color scheme is the only thing about the marketing I find fitting for the fragrance. I wouldn't have expected to like this so much before trying.

Anyways. The strongest note I get in Modern Muse Le Rouge Gloss is rose, but there's more to it. It has juicy, syrupy sweet cherry and the feminine kind of leather from the beginning on. As the scent dries down, honey joins in, later there are also vanilla and some resinous notes. The rose, cherry and leather stay for a long time, too. Most dominant notes in the base are leather, honey and patchouli.
I don't detect the vinyl note or anything plasticy at all!
This is warm, dark, fruity, a bit spicy and balsamic. Intense and long lasting and quite complex. Very feminine and even a bit old school through the strong rose, more mature than I would have thought of something that has Kendall Jenner in the advertisments, but still young and modern, not vintagey (thankfully imo).
A must have for me. A great rose perfume for people who aren't into roses that much.

VioletNoir

i like it but the vynyl ruins it for me. i know its suppose to be the note that makes it "unique' and "special" but who wants to deliberately make themselves smell like plastic? i guess people who are addicted to plastic surgery like the kardashians. i suppose thats why one of them is the face of this perfume. this could have been so nice if not for the plastic note. whats worst i wouldnt have even tried this perfume but i order perfume lots on Ebay from the same person and they keep including modern muse le rouge gloss in the order! i much prefer modern muse le rouge...yeah it may be "boring" and "generic" but atleast it doesnt cause plastic induced headaches! actually modern muse le rouge is quite lovely.

Militza

While at the mall today, one bottle at Half price was left and the sales lady said it was being discontinued. It smells very pleasant and to me, the only Modern Muse that I like. I can't figure what direction Estée Lauder is going in. So, if you like this one, grab it. It will be lovely when winter comes. For those who think it is not for summer, don't wait to buy it.

Shwets

Gorgeous cherry chapstick but in a sophisticated way! Lasted all day on me on a small area of my hand which I have washed numerous times!
Can't wait to try properly and test it's sillage.

terrance*michigan

I mainly get synthetic raspberries which I suppose is the vinyl and sour cherry. There's a deepness to it imparted by the rose and leather. A hint of spice from the pepper. There's vanilla sweetness but it's not cloying. It is very nice and has good sillage and longevity so far (I've had it on for about 5 hours). I really appreciate that it's different as far as other fragrances go. I would buy it if I didn't already have Forbidden Euphoria, which I prefer and is in the same family as this scent :)

gtabasso

fruit in the top but not cloyingly sweet; LOTS of pink pepper and rose balance it. That note should be voted much higher. It has a slight dry floral offering but really stays in the pepper and fruit with a little of the other spices, vanilla and patch as support but not individually identifiable. Reminds me a bit of Chopard Madness. In the same family, but that one is more to die for.

The review I wrote below was written during the first week of June. Today, Estée Lauder was having a 50% sale on Le Rouge Gloss so I sprang for it. I really underestimated its charms. This went from like to love for me today. I can finally smell the vinyl and the cherry, but it still has a rich base keeping it from being another plain fruity-chypre.

With a full amount of sprays (2 to the wrists and neck), the uniqueness of MMlR Gloss shines. Deep, recognizable vinyl and black cherry. Next comes a deep, dark red rose but it is not the star of the show. The rose/suede combo makes it smell like the inside of a luxury bag, with zero powderiness. The vanilla and honey are very quite in the back, just giving the overall feeling of richness without standing out as individuals. Not getting much patchouli.

After several months of testing, I am glad I have this. I dislike all the other Modern Muse perfumes, so if you have bypassed this just because it's in the MM line, I highly recommend trying it, as it has much more character than the others.

shushkin

This isn't half bad but sad that it is so weak. I definitely get cherry leather and vinyl. Vanilla and rose are very low key on me. I don't get the honey either. Not too sweet which is nice
Poor longevity and sillage

lepalm

This is a fruitchouli with a really fun twist. The fantasy vinyl note is very strong on my skin. This smells like the inside of my purse at various stages of my life when I might have been carrying cherry lip gloss, lipstick, and a makeup compact. I love it!

Nuitdenoel

This is the only fragrance out of the Modern Muse line that I like enough to own. While I still don't get an overwhelming "vinyl" accord on my skin (tubereuse reads as vinyl on me, though) MMLR Gloss is still an interesting scent.

Initially, I'm hit with a fruity cocktail, which quickly becomes a spiced fruity cocktail. This spicy fruity hangs around for roughly an hour before morphing into a suede-rose-lipstick. At this point, this is a love for me.

I was gifted MM Le Rouge for my birthday but exchanged it for Poison. Le Rouge smells nice but, in my opinion, it's boring and linear. MMlR Gloss, however, still smells nice and fun but it keeps the interest up by having different notes come to the forefront. Gloss also does not have that weird woody note that the other Modern Muses have that I don't like.

All in all, this is a well-done, interesting, modern composition that is worth testing.

*one small note: my daughter tested this and the test site immediately broke out in a rash. I do not have that reaction, though.

UnearthlyApothecary

Le Rouge Gloss is Fun and unique, the first time I saw the bottle and notes I thought of a fifties diner lol red vinyl booths, retro jukeboxes, cherry coke, perky poodle skirted waitresses with shiny red lips and nails. This is a makeup scent for sure, cherry chapstick in a leather purse with a little patchouli thrown in. Unfortunately the silage is whisper soft on my skin but otherwise I really like this, I haven't really smelled anything quite like it that's for sure!
UPDATE: I get a TON of honey towards the drydown. I am liking this one more and more!

HelenaZ

This is a really beautiful scent! I've ordered the 50ml, i wish it could have been the 100ml but i just can't afford it yet... Beautiful lip glossy perfect composition, it suits my skin so well because the scent and silage and lasting power are fantastic! I see this becoming my signature. Despite the age target being 25-30, i am 21 and find it perfectly wearable, it is honestly beautiful and sophisticated and sultry.

Astar

It's an absolutely beautiful and very unusual scent that stroke me as a huge surprise taking into account I'm not the biggest fan of the original. It develops beautifully on the skin - from cold oriental notes towards the sweetness of cherry and deepness of patchouli. Vinyl notes are quite new to me, hence it was hard to recognize this something "extra" on top. The fragrance astounded me with its complexity, while having a clear signature of Estee Lauder house.

iamoir

Modern muse le rouge gloss caused me trouble. I will announce the drydown in case someone is not interested in reading the whole review: spilled on the cold floor plasticky sweet red cherry wine. If you like it, by all means wear it. Excellent lasting power and the best sillage and projection one can ask.

So i was wandering in a local perfume and cosmetics shop and while i was sniffing caps of perfumes, i overheard, and later saw, two women at around 20-30, discussing about Modern Muse le rouge gloss: it's the best in the line, the sexiest fragrance one of them would have ever put on their skin, youthful and bold; well basically they both loved it. Nothing wrong loving a perfume, but it's different from judging...

I did sample it on my wrists and sprayed on my neck, as i would with any perfume. There are quite some notes in here that I do like (for the first time the sales lady knew the composition of the perfume, a miracle really!): pink pepper, leather, labdanum, patchouli, honey, saffron, jasmine and rose. Half of the notes right? I should like it. Nope. I can tell them in the perfume, but they are wrongly blended.

Or, maybe, that was exactly the intention they had, for a gloss(?) as a lip gloss? As some sort of shine gloss? Whatever the gloss is, it is CHEMICAL to an unbearable level and disgusting bad.

Opens fresh but turns sweet in no time. Something medicinal and cinnamony which made me hope, but in a matter of seconds it's rosy, herbal and plasticky, unbashedly chemical. Like it proudly wants to scream: "look at me, I'm glossy and shiny, they made my shininess and glossiness into a juice!". A herbal patchouli but not prominent, gets lost quickly, a hint of leather, maybe my skin refuses to intensify it, or it does get lost too. Not convinced yet by the development, but at least it's not gourmandy yet.

Oh my, the horror begins when the perfume turns wine-like and salty. The wine feel intensifies as f*** each half an hour, stronger every time. I needed to wash my hands five times and still I couldn't scrub it off. After some hours it feels nauseating and heady; It did cause me a headache and sickness, I wanted to vomit--> two signs that indicate to me that I'm dealing with gourmand

My man would refuse to sit next to me. "wash it off! Don't even come around me wearing it!" Never has he ever had such a reaction to any perfume I have or test. Wtf? it's supposed to be sexy and bold. Meh, it failed in my case.

dglightblue

Yeah!
Sweet, cherries, whatever sweet note that britny spears fantasy has, but I don't like fantasy,
It rounds off, I don't know what leather smells like in lrefume
Oh that might be it
Imagine a sweet smell, then a faint whiff of of new leather shoe on top
.
Don't ask me what flowers are in there I can't tell.

Just sprayed so will add more later

EDIT
ok, now, I'm trying Le rouge and Le rouge gloss at the same time
There's a sugar rose candy with a sliver of leather lassoing it in line.
That sweet thing is still hangin on, like fantasy but not sickly.
Sophisticated interesting candy perhaps...

Amarie121

A saleswoman at a shop I visited had such a beautiful floral silage. It was so powerful that it seemed to define her, and it could certainly have made a wonderful "signature fragrance". It was like a sheer veil around her, rosy and polished, with a hint of spice and depth. In other words, it was the perfume I had been looking for for a long time. I asked her what it was and she said "none of your business". I'm kidding. She said it was Modern Muse Le Rouge Gloss.

I bought a sample online, and although it is just as lovely as I remembered, I must have smelled the fragrance after it had diffused most of its chemicals, because this is a headache in a bottle. I'm JUST over 45, and the copy here says I'm not the target audience, so maybe younger women are less sensitive to its chemicals! If you are chemically sensitive, try before you buy or avoid altogether. If you love the fragrance and do get a headache, you may want to try 2 other gourmand/rose combinations: Rosine's Rose Praline or Parfumerie Generale Brulure de Rose.

daisyvision

This is so much more interesting than I was expecting! I love those vinyl/leathery notes, and this is what really gives it its appeal. The rose, cherry and patchouli come together and give it a dirty and delightful sort of smokiness.

I kept on seeing commercials and ads all over the place so I figured I'd try it just to see what all the fuss what about. Now that I've tried it - I must say - I have no idea what they were thinking with their ad campaign. Kendall Jenner? A red business suit? To me, Modern Muse Le Rouge feels a bit more wild, flirty, and maybe a little more rock 'n' roll. I feel like Demi Lovato would've been a more suitable frontwoman for a scent like this.

PinkDove

Excellent, delicious glossy red perfume. Really good name for it. It's perfectly apt. Modern absolutely, glossy red cherries, pink pepper and rich red rose. All the notes are very noticeable to me. The patchouli is particularly delicious - light and sweet, a bit dirty, rich and fulsome in its earthy/spicy/intoxicating evocativeness. Sensual. Very sensual the perfume. Very womanly, young, middle or old. Doesn't matter. Just simply a female of the species. Glamorous, alluring, vivacious, trendy, sensual, sexy, classy, elegant, capable, strong, loving and wise. All things woman.

It's a splendid perfume. Lasts fantastically well, and carries for ever in the air around. It's very very lovely.

scarlett.angel

"An intense contrast of fruits, flowers, leather and dark woods", reads the magazine strip from which I'm smelling this. Wow, this is certainly intriguing is my first thought! I love makeup scents and I think @Pepperflower's review is spot on. Though I'd have to sample this on my skin as to make sure all that vinyl and synthetic notes don't give me a headache. I love the rose and cherry notes. Reminds me of glossy magazines and perfectly applied makeup mixed with technology. Very modern indeed.

redskyatnight

The epitome of "jammy rose." I don't get much vinyl. Unique and attention-grabbing scent, nicely done, for the vivacious woman.

Wathgwen

I find this *not* to be a fruity floral in the traditional sense. I just got my first full bottle of this, after blowing through two samples at an unprecedented rate. Lemme tell you why...

The opening of this is rather peculiar in that I don't get much alcohol smell and it seems to settle down almost right away into the heart. What I find so compelling about this is that a) it's got an identifiable vanilla that I don't hate because it's not boozy or overwhelming, and b) it seems to have two layers. I get more of the cherry-vanilla-woods from far away, or from arm/chest length. However, when I sniff it up close, that's when the vinyl and leather come out. The cherry is not sugary, but any sweetness feels quite organic and cuts the sourness of the cherry a little. It's a very pleasant, very interesting experience, and I don't think out of all my sniffing that I've encountered something quite like it.

Longevity is in the 4-6 hour range. I find this a perfect winter scent.

A month after I wrote the rest of this, time for an update. This has gone from a love to an all-time favorite. It has the best sillage out of almost anything in my collection, being persistent without being overwhelming. The more I wear it, the more familiar I become with it and can pick out its components. I award this many points for working vanilla, one of my top hated notes, into something I like.

sail0rmars

This perfume is totally cool! I disagree with those who say that it's just another fruity floral. I find it on the other side: sexy, a bit edgy and provocative. The vinyl and spices add something special to this perfume. This rose is not a romantic rose at all. It is totally sexy and knows what it wants!

Pepperflower

Very interesting perfume! Gloss is following the cosmetic/lipstick trend in fragrance that Fredrick Male did beautifully with Lipstick Rose, Mason Margiela with Lipstick On, YSL with Parisienne, Narcisco with Poudree....all of those capture moments in fashion and cosmetics of 20s-80s and now Estee Lauder does it with Gloss for this current day and age.

This smells modern and like lipgloss! The sticky, sweet lipgloss; the clear shiny lips I wore in the 90s-early 2000s that I threw in a brand stamped pattern purse. This is what hashtags, filters, and layers of priming, contouring and highlighting smells like. This is perfume is today's runway. The vinyl in Gloss is the strongest I have ever smelled in any perfume, more than YSL Parisienne. Vinyl is the first and strongest note I smell. I had a splitting headache and I felt like I was inhaling hot melted plastic. It also smells strongly of cherries, followed by powdery roses and honey with a dash of pepper. I dont smell other notes besides those.

I get the candy references, this does smell sweet and fruity but obviously artificial and purposely done. Today, everything is flawless, too flawless if you ask me; with the filtering/photoshop, technology, layering various products applied with amazing skill, surgical cosmetic procedures, nipping and tucking....we live in an artificial world and this is what it smells like: Gloss.

I don't think I would ever wear this, it's way too abstract for me plus it gives me a headache. I think of this more of a collectors item for people that like to own scents from moments in time.

billur.durmus

Fruity,sticky and nothing special.
Just one of those nowadays scents
Caused great headache.

I hate it, it's just terrible. There's not too many that bad perfumes out there.
I don't even want to write about notes, because there's no nice notes, it smells like something old and dusty.
It stinks, so disgusting!

Really nice, floral scent with a bit of labdanum, saffron and other oriental notes. Cherry note is subdued, barely recognizable. Sweet notes like honey and vanilla add some cuddly vibe. All in all, extraordinary, interesting scent.

The Gloss version of Le Rouge is brighter and a bit fruitier, though I don't get the advertised cherry or vinyl notes. Otherwise, it's like the regular Modern Muse Le Rouge.

I detect rose mixed with leather on a vinyl base coated in honey. I really don't like honey and the honey ruins this scent for me personally on first spritz. It smells of cosmetics, high end cosmetics like a creamy matte vintage lipstick. After 20 minutes it actually smells really powdery to me on dry down though as it reminds me of Johnson's talcum powder. I like the initial spray where i get leather and rose and vinyl notes. I dislike the talcum powder dry down. I am actually a fan of poudre and powder scents but this is too much and too basic, pure talcum powder smell, which makes it smell cheap and boring and uninteresting to me. It's very offish to me, it has been a miss unfortunately. If you love the smell of talc, you will adore this, unfortunately I hate the smell of talc. Very boring perfume. Disappointing.

Sweet, modern and sophisticated is how I'd describe this perfume. The vinyl accord gives it a slight edge and the notes all blend really well together. My only criticism is that it's very soft on me and there's no projection or lasting power. I will however try this one again as I really like how it smells.

Yes, this is sweet but not unbearable. Consider this Estee Lauder's offering in the La Vie Est Belle category of scents. Yet, for me a bit better suprisingly the scent is a little bit more mature than La Vie Est Belle, the powder better accented by sweet berries with just a tiniest hint of vinyl.

Quite happy with Muse Gloss! I bought a 30 ml on the spot , here is a feminine warm scent with personality...I thought it was more suited for cool weather, or at least cool evenings...it is grown up, this isn't a cute sweet little scent, this offers some mature quality, yet is definitely contemporary, I feel it is the best of the Muse, as it is warm, and the Rose is a bit gothic , it has a vinyl vibe somewhere in there...like Parisienne by YSL...but this is more intense, whereas Parisienne stays fresh and younger..Gloss is definitely worth checking out, I usually dislike cherry in perfumes, but in that scent it is nicely done, more like a cherry liquor than a fruity one..
To my nose not so much a chypre fruity, more a floral oriental as the cherry isn't juicy...and the base is definitely warm and a bit spicy., .longevity isn't outstanding ..still quite enjoy it !!

Saturday I was at the only large department store in my town, just browsing around and enjoying the air conditioning out of the hot, humid air.

First, the big red bottle caught my eye. I almost thought I was seeing a mirage of a Samsara flask (Gasp! Guerlain at a small town Belk?) but it was this new Le Rouge Gloss.

One sniff, folks, and my cherry-is-one-of-only-two-fruits-I-even-like sensibilities were satisfied. But beyond that, WOW, what a fragrance blend!

On my wrist it went and into my purse dropped the scent card, which permeated everything in there, including my cell phone and hair brush.

Buying as soon as possible. LOVE this EL, but admit I also loved Modern Muse before this flanker. EL, keep it up.

P.S. I want to add that I would have bought this on the spot except I was deep into conversation with a friend who showed up and the EL sales clerk was nowhere to be found. On a Saturday afternoon! Sigh.

I ordered this from Estée Lauder and it arrived almost empty from leaking during shipment. There was less than 1/4 of the liquid in the bottle and the rest had splashed around inside the packaging along with red dye from the disintegrated red box. The scent wafted out of the soaked packaging in an overwhelming cloud of fragrance. I think it ruined the scent for me a bit to be introduced to it in such an unpleasant manner. I don't think I'll be repurchasing it anytime soon. However, it's a very pretty scent. It's a sweet, boozy vanilla rose with a tart cherry timidly hanging in the back ground. The leather and vinyl give it smooth powdery edges almost like cashmere. It's very warm and despite having pink pepper and saffron, it's not spicy. Mostly it's rose, vanilla, cherry and honey. This combination sounds almost childish, but the spice, leather and patchouli manage to bring a sophisticated warmth preventing it from smelling too much like candy.

Edited to add: It's been two weeks and I've gotten past the dramatic introduction to this fragrance and I must say I'm loving it! I only have 1/4 in the still leaking bottle and I might just repurchase this after all. It a beautiful scent! A lipstick rose modernized and edgy. I'm loving the sweet rose and cherry with the contrast of the soft leather and spices. The vinyl gives me this impression of smelling a little like motor oil and for some reason I find it so attractive. I imagine a sexy girl in a well worn, black leather jacket, wiping away a bead of sweat as she works on her motorcycle.

It says that it will be out in August but Dillard's and Macy's already have it!

I just got this perfume today. This is a warning that Younkers / BonTon stores are not selling this perfume sealed in box, the one I got wasn't, but is full though. Hands down this is the best Modern Muse perfume, this perfume has that depth, and edginess that I have been wanting. I smell a mix of notes, I feel like the honey softness the patchouli, leather, and vinyl, these notes are the most noticeable on skin, and saffron is also there. I will do a review of this perfume sometime next week on Youtube.

Guess what!? The 30, 50, and 100ml are online at Younkers, which is a apart of the Bon Ton stores, Free shipping with code Beauty, and you get a $24 Estee Lauder lip gloss ( which I already have one, so the free one will be my second )Also you get a free cooler tote, if you order the 50ml, or 100ml. Prices are $65 for 30ml, $85 for 50ml, and $115 for the 100ml. I ordered the 50ml, and I can't wait to get this. I will do a review of this perfume on Youtube by the end of June.

Beautiful bottle!!! I tried the regular Rouge and I really liked it and was thinking about getting it, I think this one is going to be even greater. I just love perfumes!!!:)

lizzyshreds

Now this sounds great, I'm excited for this. I might get this one. I don't like Rose that much, but I'm still willing to try it, because of the other notes.
