Insolence by Guerlain is a Floral Fruity fragrance for women. Insolence was launched in 2006. Insolence was created by Maurice Roucel and Sylvaine Delacourte. Top notes are Raspberry, Red Berries, Bergamot and Lemon; middle notes are Violet, Rose and Orange Blossom; base notes are Iris, Tonka Bean, Resins, Musk and Sandalwood.

Insolence is a new, bold fragrance for young women. The face of perfume is the movie star Hilary Swank, the Oscar-winner for the main role in the "Million Dollar Baby" film. This perfume will most probably surprise Guerlain perfume fans, as it is rather unusual, modern, and fruity-sweet. However, Guerlain is not afraid to surprise, and even provoke.

There is a delicate and soft violet waiting in the top notes, followed by a red-fruit cocktail with raspberry domination. The heart is floral-sweet and composed of violet, rose, and orange blossom. At the end, sweet resins and balsams together have joined iris and tonka bean to round out the composition. The creators of Insolence are Maurice Roucel and Sylvaine Delacourte, and the half-sphere bottle with the rose-like stopper was created by Serge Mansau. The perfume was launched in 2006.

This Perfume smells like Spring in a bottle. It's a sweet & powdery floral fruity Perfume which is perfect for this time of the year. Projection & Sillage beast mode, you'll get noticed easily by people around you. And it's definitely a head turner and compliment magnet. Longevity is around 7+ hours on skin but on clothes it will last longer. This Perfume evolves beautifully from the top to the base but the sweet candy like violet is always there to mesmerise you. This is one of my most favourite spring time Perfume. It's bold yet elegant ❤️
This is a really potent Perfume. So I don't recommend you to blind buy it. Try it before you buy it ❤️

She was a friend in 2006. I was drawn to the shape of the bottle in the airport shop where I first bought her.

I have the original stored in the back of my perfume vault. She smells like a flagon of fruit juices which have been steeped with sweet flowers. I drink that heady concoction whilst soaking my feet in a China basin filled with warm rose water, Parma violet sweets, Tonka beans, woody resins and cat pee. Every time I guzzle the fruity floral drink, I smell the throbbing tonka and violet mix. The cat pee (as this is not a smooth sweet musk) disappears but gives the violets a warmth i cannot compare with other violets fragrance. This one is taste and smell combined; an experience. Isn’t this what perfume is. Beyond a smell.

The frag in its current format in the new bottle smells like it; but is not it. It’s like a slightly off copy of something but not quite there.

I also found a mini of this in a gift set. It's so pretty light and carefree. The notes blend together so nicely and it last so well and has a good sillage despite being such a soft quiet scent. It's such a shame I'll never be able to own a full size of this. I'm considering the new versions but after smelling them in shops it wasn't the same. Not so light and smooth and kind, this smells so elegant and classy (but not grandma-ish imo) like I'm talking to a pretty woman in a long white flowy dress on a warm spring day.

lauanevan

I found a full mini in a gift set. Insolence is the insolent and quirky little sister of Apres L'Ondee, who is shy, introvert and melancholic. Nostalgic - it gives me a strong scent memory of 90s Pokémon candy/bubblegum/something I quite can't remember what it was.

Blossomlove

I have the new EDT from the Legends line and a mini of the original version and those few extra notes make a difference to me. The citrus notes, rose, raspberry, and resins make a more rounded, full smelling ambient aroma that the newest edition lacks and for that, I'm probably going to end up buying a bottle of the original round flower bottle and hope that it was stored properly. The new EDT is definitely heavy in the iris and violets and it is very powdery and sweet smelling. My only qualm is that there is a plastic, rubber smell to it. It reminds me of the old, probably toxic plastics we had in the 80's. Or maybe is it crayons? I don't know for sure, all I know is that I layer my mini with the new one and to me, it makes this scent work. I actually really love it and it has become one of my favorites. It's almost addictive-I can't wait to reapply it throughout the day. I actually detest the smell of baby powder and luckily this powdery smell is refreshing and delightful. There is something cool feeling and aquatic about it. Too often florals read warm and so I like that this is a cool, light, floral. My other cool, light floral is Wild Bluebell from Jo Malone. Also because of this scent, I've been looking at more iris and violet based fragrances and it's opening up my fragrance profile.

Skylakagetis

This is gorgeous and ethereal.
It reminds me of boudoirs, vintage powder makeup in gold metal packaging, Parma violets, the colour lilac.
It is so nostalgic for me, I wore this as a teenager when it first came out in 2006 and I was 14. I only had a mini dab bottle but I remember it has beastly longevity.
I feel like I wear this one for myself, and myself alone. I love the vintage floral violet powder scents, but I can imagine it won't be everyone's cup of tea.
It starts of as offensively powdery parma violets! Then as it dries down the florals are more present.
It's absolutely Guerlain, so recognisable in the dry down.
It's a beast for longevity and sillage. 2 sprays lasts all day for me!
I love the appearance of the flying saucer bottle, but I do find that some of the perfume always ends up on the glass of the bottle at the top and gets wasted.
However, if you like this kind of scent, it is definitely worth hunting down!

onjelbercier

It literally just smells like Secret Deodorant. Not impressed.

Melody Valentine

Love it. It smells exactly like Parma Violets sweets. That's all there is to say really. If you don't know what they smell like, they're little round, purple, violet flavoured candies like swizzels but just all purple and taste like violets. I love them but they do have a perfumey taste. So it's like flowery, but sweet and a bit powdery but not much. It's strong, projects well and leaves a lovely scent trail. I just love this smell so much, I've even got a Parma Violets airfreshner that I spray round my flat.

On another note, I know it's strong but it's not THAT strong. If you're spraying it into the air and walking through it you're not gonna get much, if any, perfume on you. That method has been debunked eons ago by actual perfume makers. Especially if you're spraying it far away from you, by the time you walk "through" it it's all fallen to the ground. If it does hit you it hits you low down on your torso or thighs. If it's a bit strong for your liking just hold it further away from your body and spray it once onto your clothes or skin. It's madness to literally just be using it as an air freshener and expecting it to have any effect on how you smell. I wouldn't even do that with my strongest extraits, never mind an edt. You need it to be sprayed directly onto you and the alcohol will evaporate leaving the perfume oil behind. Otherwise you're only getting the tiniest amount of the entire solution on you then when the alcohol evaporates it's gonna leave just a trace amount of perfume oil behind and you'll have barely any of the alcohol to help it project. You probably think it works because you can smell it in the air but it's not actually on you. It's just something people used to say in the olden days to say it's a "classy" way to wear it but really it's just a way of not wearing it all. Probably made up by men.

Insolence eau de Parfum (purple flying saucer bottle) is my ultimate favourite and signature scent.

This isn’t quite the same, but still a favourite. Powdery violets, berries, I get the tonka bean too. It’s not as ultra in your face as the eau de Parfum, but it’s still beautiful, guerlain certainly know their way around a violet note.

Boujieee Parmalat Violet candy bomb! Super girly and feminine could be worn all year round, very distinctive

I tried the OLD version of this. The bee bottle one is pretty similar, the newest bottle not so much.

Fruity violet candies dusted in make-up powder but they come from the most luxurious candy shop you have ever been at.

Classic with an edge. Wonderful perfume. Goodbye forever, classic Insolence...

Lalouve<3

Hmmm…how do I start this review…first since I had made an extremely negative review on guerlain insolence (newer bottle) which I have just found and deleted to make this new one, I shall apologize to Guerlain. I have bought both my insolence bottles this one the edt in the beautiful round bottle, and the newest edp (house shaped bottle) about a year ago as blind buys. And I tried them in autumn and winter, and I was appalled.

When I first put them on, they seemed strong, unbalanced, a big mess, extremely strong and in your face and not in a good way… hence the extremely negative review I had posted.

And let me tell you right away, that this perfume was rated from hate to love as soon as I let them breathe for quite a few months and tried them on warm spring and summer weather… and oh my God, but these are divine! It is as if I had tried completely different perfumes then and now. Now what I pick up is powdered almonds, so beautiful and airy and amazing and I am awed, just a tad of sugar in this almond powder that makes the perfumes perfect, not too sweet but enough not to be bitter… Both perfumes have amazing sillage, but it is kind of a soft airy fairy sillage like a perfumes cloud around you… an enchanting aura that swirls playfully in a big enough vicinity… My advice, let the perfume breathe after first spraying it a few times, and let it sit for a few months. Also try it in warm or hot weather, the dryer the better! And if it is a bit windy it will enchant everyone around you in a 100m distance!

So so much different that the screechy monstrosity I was first slapped with… it is so weird, it is almost comical when I think about it.

Funnily enough this edt which is in this original cute bottle is as strong as the new edp, and this one lasts longer and is richer in aroma. However the new edp is very close, you won’t really get big differences, except the opening which on the edp was some kind of fruitiness, whereas this old edt one goes straight on Violet heaven.

I have managed to find another old version of this locally and I am snatching it as a backup.Enough said, this is a love love love!

Edit: it all its almondy-mahlab powderyglory, it reminds me of the Prada infusion d Iris absolu (the one with the golden cap and the golden metallic label in the middle of the bottle)! Both of them are similar and equally divine, however the Prada one is also wearable in winter, although I don’t prefer to wear it much in humid cold weather, as it becomes a bit too sharp to enjoy it 100%

I don't know if my 2009 bottle has lost something. It doesn't smell as fresh as the old magazine inserts I remember from the aught, then again those frequently didn't smell true to the fragrance. I didn't smell it often back then. But I am surprised by how wearable this is. I've repeatedly heard from others that this perfume is an obnoxious fruity violet bomb with enormous, sickening sillage. I'm not finding any of that to be true. There is indeed a distinct Parma violet candy overtone to this, but the fruit notes are sort of subsumed in that so that the floral-fruity accord blends seamlessly into the wood-tonka-resin base (which is very Guerlain) and smells like a very fine face powder, lipstick, or face cream. Like luxury cosmetics. I've also sprayed my wrists twice and it's just not as strong as I've been led to believe. Either that, or I'm anosmic to something here. On me like this it's just a personal scent bubble and I really can't get all of it unless I deliberately smell my wrists. It says something about the state of perfumery currently that this comes off as a slightly dowdy scent. Perhaps violet always will. But when it was released I think it was pretty on point for a young fashionable woman. Sweet and just a little fruity, sexy base notes. Insolent, perhaps, but only if you overindulge. I'm interested to smell the newer versions.

I have been curious about Insolence for a long time and knowing it's loyal following I was almost afraid to smell it. What if I didn't love it like everyone else does? What it if didn't live up to the hype for me? What I am testing today is the original Insolence in the flying saucer bottle which BTW is gorgeous. Why would they ever get rid of that bottle? But that aside Insolence is a lovely powdery violet that is not chalky but smooth and fine like a soft breeze. The fruity elements here lend sweetness and keep the violet from becoming sharp or chalky like violet can become but the fruity notes are also kept in check and do not become sugary, syrupy or over sweet. They do not take away anything from the main star and that is the violet. This is the finest violet dusting powder, ultra feminine, refined, elegant and a bit aloof. This is very pretty, and I do like it, but it reads a bit too cold for me personally for everyday wear. I have found in my testing over these last 2 1/2 years that I prefer my violet w/ a bit more naturalistic warmth surrounding them. My favorite violets are Blocki's For Walks and Ormande Jayne Woman. Much more violets in the woods. But this is a quality perfume no doubt. One of the best violet powders I have ever smelled. Such a shame the flying saucer bottle of this is so expensive now. I can see why so many here are upset by that. Insolence is a great perfume, and I am happy to have smelled it and I will give it a full all day wearing soon. Thanks to my Fragrantica friend for sending it to me.

This one is a BOMB.
But it’s a LOVE BOMB.
Or a BONBON.
The violet in this is simply superb. It’s unbeatable, unforgettable and unwashable.
It has a silage of 1 km per spray. If you spray it 2 times the whole planet will feel it at the same time.
If in a locked room, you die of violet attack because there’s no air left.
Having said that I WOULDNT CHANGE IT FOR THE WORLD, and it’s one of the best fragrances ever made.
My method for wearing it though is very thorough: I spray it ONCE very far away from me then walk into the mist. Otherwise I may die.
I believe it brings happiness and joy, and overwhelming luck!

My Insolence story:

I love violet as a note, so I decided to look on ebay for a good price on the "flying saucer" bottle. I was only willing to (blind) buy it if I could get a screaming deal though, because I don't like raspberry notes, and it and red berries are voted highly. But I was curious since there weren't a lot of other notes (besides the berries) to distract from the violet. And I was fascinated because it's "nuclear" (like, super strong and long-lasting, at least that was the meaning I took from the reviews, with one reviewer saying it lasted 3 days, or some other insane amount).

A bit less than a month ago, I found a 1.7 oz bottle with no box or lid, which was about 75% full. But when it arrived, it had leaked terribly and it was half full or less. The seller issued a partial but very generous refund, and so I've been wearing and enjoying it quite a bit this late winter and early spring.

Thankfully, it's much less fruity than I feared, and I'm not sure how powdery I envisioned it would be, but it is indeed powdery―this is OK; I tend to like perfumes that people describe as powdery. Today I simply handled my bottle (while wearing something else!) because I had put it in my purse yesterday when I left for work, and apparently it leaked some more, and this musky violet completely obliterated my SOTD. I hadn't really caught such a pronounced musk note before today.

When I wear Insolence, it's really strong for maybe an hour, and only moderately strong for an hour or two after that. But after the 3 hour mark, I can't smell it on myself unless I sniff my wrist up close. I'm not sure if I'm just anosmic or if the leaking has affected the remaining perfume in my bottle. Or if the bottle itself is compromised and that's what made it leak in the first place. Also, I still have the inner packing box the seller sent Insolence in, and it's still really scented with visible perfume oil all over it. Why does it last for weeks when it leaks onto cardboard, but only for a couple hours when sprayed on my skin?

I don't think I'll repurchase, although maybe I will sometime. I do enjoy wearing it, and I love the sweetness and the iris note in the background. I'm just not sure if my bottle of Insolence behaves as it should.

natasha28

I remember smelling this is a magazine in middle school/early highschool and I always wanted to buy it! I'm between liking and loving this perfume.

I can't distinguish the raspberry from the citrus, but I think they both balance eachother out nicely. Another raspberry rose scent I love is Lancome's Tresor Midnight Rose. A raspberry scent that I think smells terrible and cheap is D&G Pour Femme, a hard pass and that one smells a lot like porta-potty too, but with no redeaming qualities.
It's a very pretty feminine scent. I got it at a sweet deal for $30 for a 1/4 used 100ml bottle. It's a sweet violet perfume that I think could be worn anytime of the year. Spring and Summer daytime would be the best time to wear it. Although I like it, I don't think this perfume is for everyone. It's very purple floral and strong. The powdery, purple floral, and fruity sweetness is noticable. I like a lot of the notes in the perfume so it's not a surprise that I like this so much. Well blended and expensive smelling IMO.
I would not recommend this as a blind buy. I'm on the fence as to whether it's smell like that blue (clean) porta-potty chemical. I think it has a vintage older women vibe, but young enough that I like it. I ended up selling this bc I had too many pefume and I couldn't see myself using the whole bottle, although I felt a bit hesitant to sell it and kept a small sample bottle for myself. Another raspberry violet perfume I love is Britney Spears Circus Fantasy, this one is more youthful, run, fresh, with not dusty powerful notes. A bit of artificial smelling in comparison, but still very beautiful violet scent, and cheap! I feel more comfortable wearing Circus Fantasy at my age (28).It's not a pefume that I would wear out as I think it would age me or smell too weird, but it is nice to spray on myself at home. It would make a nice laundry detergent or bubbly bath scent. If gifted I would consider keeping it. I haven't smelt the new version in a different bottle so I can't attest to any changes in formula. The silliage is 6feet plus! The longevity is weak though and for the price it's not worth it. Once the top sweet fruity notes drydown, the wood, resins, and tonka comes through. It's a very nice wood as it's not too strong or masculine. I think the shape of the bottle is chic and elegant. As a side note, I ate a clementine while wearing this perfume and it made it smell even better- might be a useful tip for scent layering!
Although the scent starts off with a big bang, if fades quickly and is barely detectable about 4 hours later. You can smell more of the woodsy notes at the end.

Laurus

When I was a 7 years old child back in 1987. I had just started my first year in school and I was really into collecting stationery items like pretty letter paper, envelopes, stickers, shiny pens and erasers. And if anything was scented, it was even better. And When I smelled this fragrance I thought it smelled familiar and I tried to remember where and how, but then it hit me: This smells just like my scented erasers. I used to loves smelling at my eraser. I can only detect a tiny bit of insence in this fragrance. I have an idea that this makes my child sneeze. It is very unique fragrance, even though, I think that if one does not want to smell parfumey, this is not the way to go, as it is quite strong.

JosetteM

I bought this bottle when it was first released. I think I've used it maybe 2 to 3 times. I can still smell the perfume in the room I used it 2 to 3 days later. It is SO strong and annoying. I love violet (which is my favorite scent of all) and Apres l'ondee but this is no violet I've ever encountered. Way way way too strong. I wore it to work and I was told never to wear it again at the workplace (no problem; I don't intend on ever wearing it again). It has joined my other Guerlain perfumes but one that is not used, just like the Rosa Magnifique (spelling? - an awful rose perfume)

Destiny

I have an older version and it smells like vadelmavene/hallonbåt (red raspberry candies shaped like little boats). The longevity is excellent. If you manage to find an ufo/saucer bottle of this I recommend it from the bottom of my heart!

Ejmushka

Unfortunately this oné doesnt stand out for me in any way shape of form, it seems kinda generic and i cant pick anything that would be interesting to me or intriguing. I was personally hoping for more violet, but unfortunately i m not getting it:(.

JKeto

Smells like headache inducing laundry detergent. Instant scrubber.

lemmenkukka

I have owned this since September 2007. I find this very well made, strong, soft and slightly spicy, comforting scent. Best time of year to wear this is Autumn and Winter and perhaps early spring when the weather is still a bit cold. Very creamy and adult. So very potent that one spritz goes a long way. Lovely!

takema

I find this older formulation of Insolence is pretty similar to the bee bottle except that in this one, the resins in the base give it more depth and richness. It is still a youthful, whimsical, feminine vintage smelling fragrance, but this one is a bit more grounded. It opens with berry sweetened candied violets and stays pretty linear. The difference between this and the bee bottle is that the sugar smells slightly caramelized here, giving it more richness.

I enjoy the candied violet scent most in the spring. That is when I am most likely to wear one of my Insolences. But, when I do want this scent profile in colder weather, this is the Insolence I choose. I like the rich warmth this version has over the EDP and the bee bottle EDT.

All of my Insolence fragrances have good performance, I find this version has the best longevity. It lasts 8-10 hours on my skin and on clothes until they are washed. I find the projection is moderate, right about arms length...even a little more for the first hour or two.

I have reviewed the EDP and talked about the differences between the Insolences I own. I will copy and paste that section below, for anyone interested.

I own the EDT in both the bee bottle and UFO bottles and the EDP in the bee bottle ( I haven't tried the older EDP). I find the differences among the three are subtle enough that most people will find having more than one version of Insolence (EDP/EDT) redundant. I do notice differences when I smell them side by side. The EDP is smoother and richer, while the EDT is brighter...when comparing bee bottle to bee bottle. I find the EDT projects more than the EDP, but the have similar longevity. The differences between the two EDT version is I smell the resins in the UFO bottle, but I never really notice the resins, even in the drydown of the bee bottle. I don't know if the difference is because the UFO bottle has aged or if the resins really are toned down or even absent in the current formulation. I notice those deeper base notes aren't listed for the new version.

*loves_shoes*

So glad I held out for a reasonably priced saucer and didn’t cave and buy a bee bottle (although now those are also not made, sad times Guerlain).
One spray creates an amazing scent cloud.
The original Parma violet sweets scent. Sugary crumbly violet flavoured sweets we get in the UK. This transports me back to my childhood… even now those sweets are always the last left from the bag, definitely better as a perfume than confectionary!

RoseforEmily

I keep thinking I shouldn't like this. At face value doesn't feel very "me" as it's not typical of the sweeter more rosy scents I usually like. But the longer I wear it, the more I enjoy it. It's so comforting and it lingers and envelops you like a living entity: a purplish-pink spirit in a bottle. I've noticed this same enveloping aura with the Guerlain classic L'Heure Bleue, and I wonder if this is the tell-tale "Guerlinade" that perfume historians mention.

It's interesting that so many people are reminded of fairies with this scent, because there is indeed something otherworldly about it. The lingering scent "spirit" has hints of musty marzipan and dryer sheets, which I initially thought I shouldn't like, but these very aspects end up being what make it so comfortable. Then the raspberries lend a brighter girly touch. It's definitely a feminine fragrance without being something I imagine teen girls wearing. Instead to me it conjures up a mature and confident sensuous woman like Elizabeth Hurley who is sitting on a mauve carousel horse wearing a flower crown. As sweet as her setting appears, she has a low sultry voice, satin mules, and she's winking at you with insolence.

AnnaCeciliaPetersson

The first time I tested Insolence I was appalled. A sickly sweet yet sharp cool smell slapped me in the face. It was winter and I had a thick wool coat on that accidentally caught some perfume on one of its sleaves when I sprayed Insolence on a test strip. Already minutes later, when paying for the parking in a cold boring car park, my mood was lifted by the beautiful strange dry down that emanated from my coat. Synthetic violets, absolutely, but also vintage powder, sandalwood, and something indescribeable, almost similar to fizzy dizzy candy. I had to smell it again. After hunting down an EDT in the old saucer bottle (from 2015 according to batch code check), I got the same reaction. It is both ugly and nauseating, and wonderfully complex and sweet. A bit too sharp for me really, with too many sour-sweet red berries in the opening. Half a spray is enough. But surely addictive in the long run. I will need to find the EDP to see if that is more mellow. A true Guerlain gem, that stands out still today. Actually reminding me a bit of LouLou bu Cacharel as well as Samsara by Guerlain.

BotticelliBlonde

I recently found an original bottle of EdT I received for my birthday in 2006 that was still in cellophane. At the time, Sephora would let you do gift registry lists and based solely on the description and the Guerlain name, I asked for a bottle and received two. When I opened the first box, I discovered that I am not crazy about violets, used some of the bottle, and gave the partial bottle away. The second box got stored during a move, lost track of during various moves, and found only recently. I toyed with selling it or trading it to someone who would truly love it, but as it is a small 30 ml EdT, it's not worth much. Curiosity won out and I opened the box. It is far more rich and beautiful than I remember, even more violet forward, but I still find violets a bit strong for my taste. I sniff it, but don't wear it.

Yesterday was a stressful day so to calm down, I sprayed myself with the 2015 Sarah Horowitz Perfect Veil, which is just a perfect lemon, vanilla, and soft musks cashmere sweater fragrance. After a couple of hours, just the vanilla and soft musks remained, and I felt thirsty to add another layer before going to bed. Having been reading about plum scents in the forum posts, I wanted something purple and decided to spray Insolence and see what happened. And oh my word, what happened was absolute magic!

I normally find Insolence a little dry in spite of the fruits, but just a touch of good vanilla transformed the violet bouquet into a dewy fresh swoon-inducing cloud fed by succulent almost overripe raspberries. I know there are other flowers in there, but absolutely nothing could compete with the beauty of the violets, which reminded me of the clusters of violets Victorian ladies would bury their noses in to counteract offensive street aromas left by horses and poverty. Insolence already has a soft musk, but amplifying it with SH's gentle master blend of musks created an ultra luxe fairy tale gauze of sweet, exquisite musks that seems created by elves and unicorns. I am foremost an undersprayer and all this happened with literally ONE spray of Insolence. For a seventeen year old somewhat dusty violet scent to be transformed into a just-plucked cluster of dewy sweet violets grown in a fairy glade is serious alchemy. I literally swooned. The Insolence is still detectable over twelve hours later and I'm not tired of it at all.

So yes, ABSOLUTELY hunt down first vintage saucer bottles! They age magnificently and are a true bargain. And also experiment with layering, adding a touch of vanilla or amplifying the existing notes because there is infinite magic in this little bottle! Upgrading my like to a love.

StephBaby

I wanted to love this so much, unfortunately I didn’t. Based on the reviews and thinking I loved violet scents, I ordered a bottle. I do love those little violet candies, and Insolence smells exactly like that. Nice, but not something I like as a perfume.

cumulnimbus

Powdery bomb of sweet fruity violets. It is pretty but can be really suffocating, I can wear it only in cold months with a single spray. It is that inmense.

missloveschocolate

There were not a lot of perfumes that I gave away…this is one of them. I bought it because I knew someone who had it and it smelled so nice on her. On me, it was a total disaster, absolutely nauseating flowery powdery mess.

foldyrhands

this one goes out to anyone who says eau de toilette instantly means worse performance than an eau de parfum. smells enchanting and performs better than most extrait de parfums i've encoutered.

Konga5000

It takes a while but the old saucer shaped bottles get stronger with age! SEEK out the older bottles !!

[100] As an eleven-year-old at an Italian airport, I discovered Insolence and thus began my obsession with the house of Guerlain. It was likely a combination of Hilary Swank's beguiling cheekbones-and-hair advertisement and the deep purple flying saucer-esque bottle that caught my attention initially. The Parma violet opening hooked me, and so it was Insolence that I sprayed for years at department store counters. According to a BBC documentary that I watched years later simply entitled "Perfume", Insolence was the typical first perfume for French teenagers of my vintage upon being brought to the Guerlain counter. Unbeknownst to me at the time, my eleven-year-old self was beginning her olfactory journey in the "right" way, at least according to the French!

Only recently I finally bought an original (flying saucer) bottle of Insolence EDP to add to my collection, and it is still a love for me. As scent tends to do, it evokes memories of my pre-teen and teenage years, and is still a perfectly acceptable scent choice for a twentysomething. I have always loved violets, and Insolence, a violet-dominated scent, manages to make violets youthful. This is refreshing in a scent context, as violet scents are often considered old-fashioned and/or tend to be associated with grandmothers. Insolence was masterfully composed by Maurice Roucel, a perfumer I have greatly admired since smelling his Frédéric Malle creations. He is also the nose behind groundbreaking scents such as Gucci Envy, Hermès 24 Faubourg and Rochas Tocade.

Insolence opens with the blast of the Parma violets that I remember, with fruity berry notes rounding it out. The opening is sweet with a fleeting hint of freshness provided by the citrus notes. There is a slight creaminess to the opening too, complementing the sweetness perfectly. The opening alone is surprisingly complex, a far cry from the violet soliflore as it appears to be on first whiff.

Insolence becomes dry and very powdery as it develops, still violet-heavy, but the violet notes soften and rose creeps in. The violets give way to powdery iris after a little while, and the juxtaposition of these two dominant floral notes is intriguing and addictive. Insolence's floral heart is delicious - the notes complement each other beautifully, and I repeatedly find myself smelling my wrist.

Insolence's woody-amber accord emerges as it begins to dry down, rounding out the scent, and musky notes creep in as it dries down further. It eventually fades to a softly sweet, powdery, musky skin scent. Sillage is moderate to strong, and it is quite long-lasting. Best worn during autumn/winter, and can be worn day-to-night. It smells expensive and unusual, youthful yet sophisticated enough to be confidently worn by adult women. However, it is not for everyone and is definitely not blind-buy safe. Powdery violets for the 21st century. A personal favourite. 5/5.

Bee-young-ka

A very feminine scent; violets can some times smell grandmotherly but this is very youthful.
Great projection. a few sprays is enough. Good longevity.
Very pretty heavy glass bottle.
I would gift this to a young woman or niece for a birthday or debutant.

mytrueessense

I applied this 2010 formulation again today hoping it aged and mellowed after 10 years and still find it overpowering in a loud cloying sort of way. Why is this EDT is so much stronger than the much more sophisticated EDP? Normally it is the opposite. Only one spritz and I can already feel the strong urge to shower. I wish this were in a screw top bottle so that application could be more controlled. On me it just shrieks sickening sweet pink juice LOOK at ME! The dry down is worse as it turns sour. It just occurred that it smells exactly like pink cotton candy. Not something I ever wanted to smell like past the age of 6.

mendalia

OMG this stuff is a beast, I had no idea. When I get a new perfume I usually try it at night to see what I think about it and see how long it lasts on my skin. Well I gave myself 3 sprays of this and about killed myself lol. This stuff is POTENT and stuck around literally all night. I can still smell it this morning. I was not expecting that from a violet fragrance at all. Its beautiful I just hope I didn't put myself off it after the unintentional overspray LOL. Be careful with this one, a little goes a long way!

Goofy79

This is magic. The perfect edt with the best longevity/staying power I have ever come across ❤👌. Amazing I'm almost speechless 🤐.

JandrixDaisy

I'm using the version that is the EDP from the fountain bottle. I discovered this fragrance after fragrantica recommended it as a "similar smell" to an early formative fragrance of mine, Harajuku Lover's: Baby EDP from Gwen Stafani, and it was such a great recommend. Baby is where my love of powdery fragrances began.

This is currently my favorite bedtime fragrance. It's very easy to wear and so indulgently relaxing. The sweet and creamy berry-like (borderline gourmand) smell hits in the same way that Hanae Mori EDP would be if that fragrance from the 90's had a strong violet note added in.

However, the sweetness in Insolence doesn't cross the territory into the sticky-feeling-sugar fragrances of body fantasies or Bath and Body Works. It really does just feel like a more mature version of a decent perfume that I adored in my teen years.

It has such a delicious powdery drydown, and despite liberally spraying myself and my bedsheets with this, it hasn't yet triggered a migraine.

Despite the name which implies rebellion, I could also see this being a very sweet but inoffensive office fragrance (maybe as an equally sophisticated but less aldehydic alternative to Coco Madomoiselle), more for a casual day in the office or lunch. It's not a bold head-turning signature fragrance, but I think there is a subtle streak of insolence in daring to be a bit basic and unapologetically enjoying life's simple pleasures in spite of an opinionated culture of fragrance-elitists who find such scents boring and unoriginal.

Insolence does one thing and it does it well, and I like to think of that as the inspiration for the name.

doette

At first spray I was very impressed with the fresh, not-grandmaesque rose smell - a sweet, youthful bouquet. It seemed to mature as it dries down, becoming more powdery at first, but eventually setting into a very comforting kind of sweetness - red berries and tonka bean being the most noticeable. It didn't have any real "wow" effect for me, but it is a nice smell.

Naneece

It’s weirdly unique. It is not similar to any perfume except the guerlain insolence collection.
It can easily be a signature perfume. It’s suitable for most of occasions and seasons (expect a hot humid summer day when it can be too heavy).
The violets give it a sassy vibe and that’s why it was named insolence, while the sweeter rose settled down scent adds a mature femininity.

tinadee

I will start off by saying that Insolence has impressive longevity. I recently tried a sample of this fragrance and was impressed with its potency. It lasts forever, even after washing the skin. However, on me it initially smelled like grape soda. I did not smell any floral notes at all...just...grape soda. Then, after a couple of hours it started to smell more powdery and I picked up the voilet/iris notes, but not in a good way as it turned kind of sour. Overall, it just wasn't to my liking but its longevity was amazing.

ruski-lady

I managed to snap up one of these old bottles. The bee bottles are nice but these original bottles are quite unique and special. I don’t get any powder in this. Nor do I really know the violets scent. I live in Australia so violets aren’t very abundant here.. what I do get is sour raspberry and red berries. It’s a slightly synthetic scent - kind of like red frogs lollies - but in a good way. First time I tried it I didn’t really like but this scent is really addictive and it’s turned into a LOVE for me. There’s nothing really similar to this that I’ve tried. La Petite Robe Noir is the only similar perfume I can think of as it has a very similar mood and feel. I actually think this perfume is quite versatile for both day and night. Probably not the office however :)

EDIT: After wearing this numerous times, I now get the powdery reference. I wouldn’t say this smells exactly like powder as such but it has a powdery aspect to it - so altogether I would call this a blend of sour, sweet and powdery combined in one.

stacia79

Candy sweet violet powdery goodness. So much raspberry mixed with the violets here gives Insolence a bubble gum quality. This seems to be Guerlain's perfect reach toward the younger crowd. The fruity fun girlishness they crave with the Guerlain quality their mothers will purchase for them. This is a good girl with a decidedly naughty streak. Summers in the Hamptons with the sweater set but taking midnight dips in the nude with the party kids. Did I mention how much raspberry is in here? And yet somehow it still comes across as a modern twist on the violet soliflore.

lotus and jasmine

Revisiting this one again. Years ago, when this scent was new, I reviewed it as less a perfume, and more some sort of avante garde chemical pornography. These days....kinda yes, kinda no? Perhaps it's my skin chemistry, but the the opening notes are highly artificial hot pink chewiness, with a strong undercurrent of artificial muskiness, reminiscent of a not-at-all-expensive shampoo. The heart goes pure shampoo on me, and this phase lasts for a good 60-90 minutes. Then, slowly, a pure, sweet plummy purple phase starts to emerge, with some creaminess from the orris root, and the sharpness of violet coupled with bergamot (it's definitely too bitter to be lemon).

I quite like the drydown, but it's not compelling for me. Although it *lasts* literally for days on my skin, which normally eats scent. In general, this is a little too linear for me to enjoy, but that strong clear presence on the second and third day (even after repeated extra showers to try to ditch the scent) forced me to experiment with layering.

Friends, let me tell you about the beauty that is Insolence layered with Bond No. 9's Perfumista Avenue: The deep rose accord, with spicy, almost acrid undertones of patchouli in Perfumista Avenue stand up to the synthetic opening notes of Insolence, and the mellow, warm, loving heart of PA offset the blandness of the Insolence shampoo phase. But the drydown is where this combo really sings, with the sharp/creamy accord of Insolence complementing the warm, spicy woodiness of PA, and that plummy note that Insolence is renowned for rounding out the slightly too dry deep rose notes of PA, while the woods of the two scents blend beautifully into a warm, solid floor for the singing florals. This combo brings out the white florals in Insolence, as well as a deep, rich, emollient take on iris butter, almost dark in combination with the attar of rose, but lightened and brightened by bright, sharp violet leaves....this is my new Springtime love, and I am quite sure that it will work just as well for fall. The combo is quite strong, so it will be interesting to see how it performs in summer, when PA truly shines. But trust me, even if you don't care for Insolence or for Bond No. 9's PA, this combo is to die for!

theuntrainednose

I have a small sample.

--

This is an odd one. I sniffed before reading the notes here and was going through my memory of scents to find from where do I recognize it. Something sour and plant-y, something pollen-y and intoxicating but not too sweet, like marigolds or chamomile mixed with something wine-y or boozy, but neither wine nor booze. Odd, very odd. I like it!

Reading the notes here, I can see where the berries are, weird and sour-ish, almost soapy, as if they were fermented, mixed with powder and resins, creating a hypnotizing and relaxing mix with a lot of personality. I suspect this one may be a stomach turner for some people, but I seem to enjoy it. It's odd on my skin, so odd...

---

UPDATE: goes soapy powdery after a while. Becomes more of a standard perfume for a while, then more resinous again. Surprisingly long-lasting, even after a shower! After showering the tonka comes out more and it is less soapy. Still nice. This perfume never goes nasty on me, which is good :)

Embot

Elegant voilet dominant scent, with a creamy touch from tonka, rounded gently with rose and a little sweetness from the red berries. A most try for violet lovers.

Gets sweeter a few hours in but still not too sweet

RachelTheNK

Very pretty sweet scent. It defiantly is like sour raspberries. It is not overbearing (probably because the powder), it is a perfect balance!

I personally love this. Safe buy if you like violet and sour berry scents. However, i would suggest testing beforehand. It has great longevity and good throw as well.

marco_m

This is an odd perfume. I was craving something powdery. Sweet talcum, that sort of thing. Insolence is not that, lol... I was black out drunk off too-sweet lychee martinis when I blind bought this from eBay. Turns out these were extremely fitting circumstances to finally make that purchase. On the initial spray my first reaction was “f*ck, I have to return this.” It was gross! Candy sweet. Obnoxious. I have seen other reviews say the top is reminiscent of diet Cherry Dr. Pepper. On my skin it was more cherry twizzlers. But then after 5 or 10 minutes, just like those damn lychee martinis, I could not get enough! Something about the way it wafts around as you move makes Insolence absolutely magical. Skin-to-nostril the perfume is overwhelming, but catching a whiff of it every so often as I went about my day would make me smile and gush to myself. Does what every good perfume should do: makes you carry yourself a little differently, colors the world around you in a newly specific way. The name nails it: “Insolence,” completely! Girly and coquettish. It stays cherry-twizzler sweet on me for the majority of its wear, but it does get vaguely floral a few hours in (I wouldn’t say specifically purple). Lasts like hell. I can still smell it when I wake up the next day. At that point, after a comatose night sleeping off booze, it finally finishes with pure powder. The perfect comfort for a morning spent hungover. A new favorite of mine.

MademoiselleMaya

It is a very Guerlain scent, and I miss it in the contemporary parfums of this great house.
Mysterious, powdery, with some Meteorites powder dna.
A wintertime fragrance that is also great for every evening, I imagine.
On a cold day the powdery, classy goodness has aspects of violets, iris, tonka, musk, sandalwood and red berries.
Moving it to the LOVE spectrum, because nearly everything on Sephora's shelves falls flat comparing to the classics. So, I'm giving it some love :*

sommersne

Very powdery and fruity. To me it smells like makeup powder and a soft raspberry. When I first spray I get a vintage smell for the first 10 minutes which completely disappears. The dry down arrives after about an hour on me. It is very powdery and feminine.
If you like a modern, feminine, powder scent you will like this! Don't be scared by the vintage vibe of the initial blast. I also think you have to like raspberry to like this. To me this is powdery first, then soft fruity.
The longevity is nice - especially on clothes. You don't need more than a spray or two. Maybe three or four if you really want to stand out and get noticed. But I feel like this one is something you wear if you want to be ultra feminine in a understated way.

KooKooKatie

I once had a boyfriend back in the early 2000s who used to wear way too much Joop... even though at times I get a whiff of loveliness... most of the time the sillage I'm inhaling on myself just brings back bad memories of a hot summer and this guy's sickly Joop. *Update* that's only after the first few hours, wait for it to change. Sometimes it does smell a bit like cherry Dr. Pepper. I do like it but it's not something that I would wear often.

Marina.Klr

It smells nice, but just like a cherry scented hair shampoo or like a sour cherry soft drink, however I realize that it's made of high quality ingredients - quite a romantic smell - Why does the bottle look like an impractical flying saucer?

jenniferg0924

Hm, This one is interesting!

I got a sample because of YouTube reviewers. Mainly Gabriela Francesca raving about it. I do adore violet a lot but it has to be well blended or it can be way too powdery and dry smelling.

Upon first sniff I wasn’t wowed by it. I was kinda confused on why this was so hyped. But then I kept getting whiffs throughout the day and the dry down to me is the best part about it.

It is very much violet dominate but you do get some juicy, sparkly aspects from the citrus notes with some light sweetness from the resins and tonka.

I am definitely going to revisit this fragrance when the weather warms up. I think this would be amazing in the sun.

Amelia28

For complete disclosure, I blind bought this because of Gabriela Francesca. It sounded so magical and the bee bottle was so pretty, yes please!

At first sniff (or even the first few days TBH), I didn't get the hype. It was powdery pink soap. Not sure it suited me, since I gravitate towards musky scents in general. But when I revisited it after a week or two, I finally got the appeal. It's still pink soap but there is a light sweetness that I appreciate now. It doesn't feel suitable for this weather, I probably won't wear it much until spring but I look forward to pulling it out.

It's young, it's innocent but it 35, I don't feel like I'm too old, too jaded to wear it. I just need the right weather, the right mood.

binthadifa

I don't remember reviewing this one before, but I still like tot tell my story. I got a sample at a perfume shop in Rotterdam in 2008, in the winter when the shops were full of gift sets. I remember how much I loved it, while I sprayed it on my wrist. It was love at first sight and I had to buy it. Mind you, I was a student back then, so this was quite expensive for me to purchase. I still bought it, though. It was my first expensive perfume, in a precious, beautiful bottle... My sisters were forbidden to use it, haha. I have so many beautiful memories of this one and it will always have a special place in my heart. It's a beast in longevity and sillage. After washing my headscarf, I could still smell it. Very original, not for everyone. And definitely a very luxurious and expensive smelling pink juice.

Aqualyra

Marching to its own special "go big or go home!" beat.... Oooh-la-la! This was love at first sniff for me and is my signature but it sure is not for everyone! Contentious, in-your-face, over-the-top Amazonian violets in overdose, mobbed up with incandescent iris, red berries & raspberry, with some rose and sneaky orange blossom on the side, drying down to sexy tonka & sandalwood. Taking the typically tepid "shrinking violet" trope and standing it right on its head? You betcha - and that's why it's aptly called Insolence! :) This one is for rule breakers who adore violets. My best friend, who smells very good in Chanel 5 (which is an abomination on me) cannot stand it when I wear this one - as she thinks it smells like laundry sheets! lol But I have loved it to pieces from the start. It has the silage & lasting power of Poison, so best be careful how much you spritz!

Puolanka

Somewhat reminds me of the violet pastille breath freshener candies my gandmother used to share with me as a small child. Oddly...despite that...doesnt smell old lady-ish or old fashioned to me. Powdery but not too powdery. All the purple flowers in one place, but not too floral. The perfect amount of sweet. Both strong and gentle at the same time. Confident, but not assertive or aggressive. Ladylike, but not demure or submissive. Timeless, without being a chypre. Love it for days I just want to be comfortable in my own skin, while giving the tomboy aspects of my personality the day off.

Faubourg Friend

Am I mistaken or does Insolence smell something like the L'Heure Bleue that I remember from back in the early 70s when I was in my youth? Sadly, the modern version of L'Heure Bleue smells nothing like the wonderful vintage version that I remember. So Insolence will have to do.

Kashaboo

If you like violets, this is amust. This perfume is very sweet, almost overbearing, and smells of violets and blue flowers. It is sweet and girly. I got the EdP, and probably, just for once, should have gotten the EdT. Will probably purchase this later. This is a great summer/spring scent with awesome sillage and longevity. Sometimes I am just in the mood for it.

BlackOrchidSorceress

EDP is Violet Queen EDT is Fruity Violet Princess

Both are magnificent

The first sprays are a bit over soapy hairspray laundry soap BUT WAIT IT OUT and keep trying them

I don’t like powdery soapy clean floral stuff but this scent is enchanting if you allow your nose to “get” it

These were both blind buys and I am thrilled each day my nose adjusts and appreciates n loves them more n more

p.kalamaja

Sweet violets all the way at first. Fruity also. Unique but not obnoxious. Perfect for office and anytime. Unique!

churinl

A dear Fragrantica friend encouraged me to give this a try, positive that I would love it. I already own and adore the EDP, and didn't think I could possibly find the EDT more appealing. I was wrong. This is exquisite. They are almost exactly alike in my opinion, but there is something in the EDT - perhaps the raspberry - that elevates this version just enough to make it more delicious, especially now in the "dog days" of summer. It is very linear, but that is okay for me, as it is intoxicating from the very first spray. I consider both versions quite singular in that I have yet to encounter anything too similar. It smells like Insolence, greater than the sum of its parts. Longevity and silage are fabulous, as others have noted. I couldn't possibly love it more, though I can see how it could be very polarizing. Either you love it or you hate it. There is little room for shades of gray.
Mine is the classic bottle, not the bee bottle. I am going to need backup bottles for sure.

GinCatsBooks

Insolence is a trip down memory lane for me, my sister wore this in 2007, I can remember the gorgeous, whispy trail it left behind her.

Its no great surprise that myself and my sister have similar tastes in fragrances and when I saw a 30ml bottle for a steal of a price, I snapped it up and prepared for a nostalgic trip. My bottle, however is the newer Bee bottle, not the gorgeous stacked rose bottle pictured above.

Oh, My, God! on first spriz, this took me right back, Insolence is a wonderful, modern violet with a smidge of vintage flare thrown into the mix, the volets aren't sweet and sickly, nor does it smell matornly, its like someone took Paco Rabanne Ultraviolet, kept the fresh, modern violet and replaced all pepper, spices and the urban/digital/synthetic notes with mild fruits (raspberry, red berries) and added some extra depth with resins, vanilla and orange blossom.

Insolence is velvety, inviting, powdery but still very fresh and modern feeling, it never feels cloying unless its sprayed with a very very heavy hand. Its young, modern and smells wonderful on anyone of any age or any gender (in my opinion!), I've managed to get a full 7 hours out of 4 light spritzes with a moderate silage, enough to get the scent noticed but not enough to cause offense, give me olfactive fatigue or give me or anyone else around me a headache. Even though it was my sisters scent years ago, Insolence still feels like its "mine", I love it so much!

Gemsense

I don't like this. It's a powder hairspray bomb and it's in your face, ban! Everything all at once. Powdery blue puff of heavy hairspray. Maybe it needs intense heat? I'll try it later today when it heats up to 90. I bought the flower bottle but the seller was false advertising because what I received was the bee bottle and based on reviews the bee bottle sucks so I don't think I'm getting the true experience if this fragrance. It totally smells like Lolita lempicka forbidden flower just more watered down and less sweet. Lempickas is actually way better but very similar in the very strong purple powdery aspect. I have one of each on my wrists now. I don't think these notes agree with my chemistry.

bintTapputi

There is nothing inherently wrong with this. It's a very modern attempt from Guerlain. Really I don't get what a lot of others here get, on my skin it's a pretty mild powdery fragrance. Not the kind of powdery note(s) in Chanel 5 but the kind of powder that reminds you almost of suede, lotion, velvety notes. Something clean and fresh. It's a very relaxed, feminine fragrance that is perfectly fine but for my tastes it's quite dull and uninteresting. It's trying to be modern while also calling back to Guerlain classics, and that's an uninteresting balance for me -just pick a side! 5/10

KayleeAp

This one is not for me. I saw a bunch of reviews in places that this was an underrated fragrance, so blind bought at a reasonable price. I tend to like Guerlain's. Bad mistake, and classic case of "it's me, not you". It must be the raspberry note as I find this to be a trend of something I always classify as sickly sweet and artificial. This fragrance has to be one of the sweetest I have ever smelled (and I love sweet ones!), to the point of screeching. It is bold and audacious, even a teency drop of this is loud on me. I had to scrub.

seamagik

It took me six months, at least, to get used to this beauty. I liked it straight off, but OMG it's LOUD. In autumn I thought it needed ice cold weather to calm it down. Really enjoyed it over winter, and now in summer I'm finding it so sparkly bright and perfect for those muggy days when the air is so close and unmoving. (Also Florabotanica)

I don't find it powdery at all in summer. It's clear like a brook reflecting light as it gurgles along. This is what I see the serpent sin of envy Lady Diane wearing. She might be 30 feet tall but she knows she's cute. Insolence EDT is happy and playful, and big and bold.

The lasting power is of the charts. It doesn't get fazed by the heat at all. It lasts all day no matter how hot it is.

At first I preferred the EDP because it's calmer, but I can't get enough of this now. And now I think it's great year round, while the EDP is always powdery and dense and suited to the cold.

I have the old style bottle, for reference.

Christine802

This looks and smells like a linen spray you would buy at a fancy museum gift shop. It's unique in my collection because I prefer gourmand scents. It's absolutely beguiling to me but I've determined that it's something I want to smell but not smell LIKE. I'll use it as a sheet spray before bed or as a room freshener after cleaning. It's very soapy, powdery and floral. The dry down smells exactly like the first spray so it doesn't develop on my skin. I don't smell any sweetness.

dsmercoco

First Impressions: Powdery, sweet slightly fruity with a very noticeable Mr. Bubble bubble bath vibe. Strangely enough I like it. The powder doesnt smell of baby talc, its flowery powder.
I have the version in the older bottle. This was a blind buy based on suggestions and the notes. We'll see how it goes, so good so far.

igalmusic

This is absolutely amazing! My new favourite perfume. It's so hard to describe it...it's like a princess smell, so so beautiful. It could easily be a wedding perfume, because it's so special. I live everything about it. And the new bee bottle looks gorgeous too. It's a powdery, violets perfume, fresh and very feminine.

jrotz2325

Am I the only one who thinks this reminds them of a grape soda? I'm getting a lot of that and LOVE it! Guerlain wins again lol I just put it on for the first time so no idea about longevity, but mannnnn, this is nice!

kateclarkecosmetics

The EDT and EDP are like day and night. My choice is for the EDT. There is nothing I can add about notes that hasn’t been said - the most common comment I get is “you smell amazing, like old make up my gran used to wear” as they close their eyes, smile and are transported back to a more gentle, innocent, safe time. The notes blend into my DNA and becomes part of me. However - some days my body chemistry is off and the powder dry down doesn’t happen as smoothly. It’s the great grand child of LHB and the niece of Shalimar. Don’t blind buy - it’s not what you think. Individually the notes just don’t appeal to me, but the sum is bigger than it’s parts. I love this and would spend a pretty penny to buy up the original non Bee bottle formula.

Bubbles1964

I’m sampling the original EDT and I like it better than the EDP which I own.

So much has been written so I won’t repeat. I’m wondering why it took me so long to try this one, it’s a wonderfully unique violet. Great performance on my perfume eating skin. This is so strong I don’t think it would work in a typical Seattle Summer.

On the hunt for the original formula. I’m not sure why Guerlain made the decision to repackage all their scents into the bee bottle as the original Insolence is such a sweet design.

Edit: A few days later I scored an tester of the original bottle off eBay. I also noticed that lower rating on this version (EDT) compared to the EDP purple bottle. I think this one is so much more interesting.

Anamandy

I forgot how much I love this. The edt (original bottle) is my favorite version. I remember buying a 1oz of the edt many springs ago and finishing that bottle right before the end of the summer. Quite a feat considering the silage and longevity of this perfume, where 2 sprays last and project more than 12 hours. At that time, I put off buying another bottle because fall was on the horizon and my perfume wardrobe was going to change to heavier fare anyway, so I figured I would buy another bottle the following spring. Somehow, I never got around to it. Honestly, I really do not know how I could have let over 10 years go by without buying another bottle.

Revisiting this again, I find I still love it as much as I used to. I love the raspberry and violet combination. I'm not even a fan of heavy violet use in perfume, or a violet soliflore, often finding it reminds me of a candy I disliked as a kid, but in this fragrance the berries and tart citrus juxtaposed against the violets keep them from going into Parma violet territory. I do not find it as sweet as some here do. It feels as refreshing and light as a fruit ade, though the silage is big and longevity incredible. I always found that refreshing quality perfect for spring and summer. I still think it is, though I'm sure it would be beautiful in cooler weather too. Nor do I necessarily think it is a young fragrance. There is a certain sophistication, contributed by the Iris, Rose, and Sandalwood, that stops it from being immature, though it does have a youthful, vibrant feel. I certainly feel more youthful and vibrant just wearing it.

I really love every facet of this fragrance. From the tart and sweet opening, to the beautiful florals, and the lightly powdery, velvety soft finish that seems to go on forever. For me, it’s a perfect composition that has it all. I absolutely, unequivocally adore it, and am bound and determined to never be without it again.

PeachK

I have the original round bottle and the bee bottle. Both EDT. Sprayed one on each arm for comparison. The original smells sweet, feminine and pretty. The bee bottle version is fairly close but has a sharp chemical smell at the opening the round bottle doesn't have. Twenty minutes in the bee bottle version mellows out a little into something that is closer to the original but not identical. 45 minutes into wearing it the original is more powdery and the bee bottle scent is more fruity but they are very close scent-wise. Over an hour into it and the bee bottle scent is more powdery now, too. My husband says it still has the tiniest bit of chemical smell to it but I've gone somewhat noseblind to both. He still thinks it's a pretty smell though. Just not quite as good as the original. I got the original 2 years ago from Beauty Encounter (online) and the bee version last year from Marshall's (in store). Not sure if that matters but thought I'd mention it.

Eugenia Olesen

For me it is breathtakingly sexy, loud and beautiful scent. I can’t understand why so many years I walked just past it without noticing? Smells like expensive lipstick. Longevity is enormous. I am delighted!

cyan

Purchased this fresh five years ago and loved it. Halfway through the bottle now, it has changed to smelling entirely like mimosa.

kayleenanncooke

Such a beautiful powdered berry scent, that being said I would not repurchase the horrible bee bottle. I lost my whole perfume collection and house and whole neighborhood in a California fire last October. This one is so beautiful but the new formulation just does not last at ALL is a SHAME. No repurchase for me unless I find an old batch on eBay.

I feel a slightly citrus exit, but already at the exit I get the talcum plus the sweet and the white floral.
The feeling that goes on is of jujube with talcum literally. Also, orange blossom gives a different burning touch than we are used to as an open citrus. Color has no smell, kkk, but the violet is masked in it and gives you a feeling of feeling purple.
Soon, the iris flower further forces this powdery side. you have to like perfumes with talc, lol, to know how to appreciate this little bomb.

bodnerrachel

Love this scent! It is a love affair between raspberry, violet, iris, tonka bean and sandalwood. In other words, pure Guerlain magic. The EDT sparkles and fizzes then settles down to a floral-fruity-citrus-woodsy scent that you will want to linger forever. Insolence EDT is suitable for daytime or nighttime, any time of the year because it is a fragrance that delights the soul. It is like a whiff of the islands. It is a romantic getaway to a flowery French island like Martinique or Tahiti. If it was a painting it would be Gauguin's "Woman Holding a Fruit" or "Reclining Tahitian Women." The violet and iris will transport you to the South Pacific.

mytrueessense

I first had Insolence EDP and loved it, especially for winter. After using every drop of the EDP I picked up this EDT thinking it would be a milder version, and one I could use year round. I was shocked to discover the EDT is louder, more potent and will clear a room. The EDT is a less sophisticated formulation and on me has a strong chemical vibe. Guessing that the fixative might be the reason. Definitely not anything like ambergris. A very light single spray application is all I am able to tolerate indoors. I immediately regret overdoing it to the point of feeling nauseous and wanting to take a shower to relieve the over powering aroma if I apply more than a single spray. Less is more with this one.

masako_30

Insolence moves me to a magical and fairy-tale enchanted world. Those who have used it for a long time know this well.
It is useless to deny that mind runs to those metal cases on which ancient images were depicted, from which a delicious smell was released, preserved for a long time by the wrapping paper and the metal box. The candies didn't even want to melt in my mouth, so the taste of violet was infinite.
I stopped the clock and take time to savor all the phases of its bouquet.
Innocent childhood first stage. Aware maturity stage when scent is fixed. Flashback perfume, collage of little short-lived moments on romantic violet background, fragile and divine pulse.
The bottle with the bees in relief challenges every age, beautiful, creating an ideal bridge.

Aleccsei

Way too powdery for me, but I understand why certain people love it.

Ariella_essenzia_lux

I have a batch from 2013, so its very strong. VERY powdery. I do smell raspberries with a hint of musk . It has a very retro feel to it which is why I can't seem to get used it. I have a bottle to swap in a box, let me know if you are interested.

Miss koku

Son bir senedir pudralı kokulara bayılıyorum ve noktasında iris olup ta mor zambak çirkin olan parfüme rastlamadım.Çok güzelsin insolence 💜 temiz zarif bayıldım sana

DT953

Decided I loved this when I purchased an older bottle. Newer formulations? Feminine deodorant made luxury. Older bottle? Well, come on iris... let's get sickening. Adore this. Powdery and VERY Guerlain.

aussiecolognelover88

A masterpiece of a fragrance. What an absolute beauty this is, it’s just divine in every sense of the word. An ex-girlfriend of mine used to wear this and I remember finding myself completely intoxicated by it, it envelopes the entire body and skin, it lets everyone around you know that you are here and they had better sit up and pay attention.

Insolence, by definition means “rude and disrespectful behaviour” and let me tell you that’s exactly what this is. Do not wear this unless you carry yourself with absolute confidence and self regard, it takes a mighty strong person to wear something as potent as Insolence,

When it opens you get a blast of iris, a blast of violet and a touch of fruit. It’s when it dries down that you get the beautiful powdery note that just stays and stays and stays and stays. Seriously the sillage and longevity of this is outta this world. The bottle that I have, which is stunningly designed I might add, is the sphere shaped bottle, I’m not sure what the newer bottles are like but the older bottles are definitely beasts.

I see some people think this is a fragrance that could easily be abused because it announces itself so loudly and unapologetically, but those are the types I like, so for me, this is a magnum opus fragrance. Oh my goodness I just cannot get over how good it is.

It smells like something a witch would wear.

Maurice Roucel set up to split the atom in the ionones of Apres L'Ondee and they hatched a mutant Blade Runner version of the Gibson Girl living in a cocotte's boudoir coloured in neon hues, edwardian chignons set with a radioactive strawberry hairspray and gobs of violet-scented papier poudre. Yum.

The affected fragility of the purple flowers deluged by foggy dew of Apres L'Ondee are blow-dried upside down enough to be ballooned into eighties futurama with the airy, pastel pointillism impressions of spring gardens transformed into phosphorescent blue/pink/purple flecks in the dark skyscrapers of a neontopia.

Aptly named, it deters from communicating anything overtly romantic showing the cultural generational gap between both eras even if twain fragrances revolve around a heightened sense of femininity and aspirational beauty, they represent it in two different languages, one binded by corsets and social decorums in Debussy's Paris and the other, colder, dissaffected and blunt, apt for something new-century urban and swapped by technology.

The android updated version of the Gibson Girl for the social media era with violet flowers as her lockscreen theme.

I almost forgot this was my signature for about two whole years, which must have been a new record.

kielo

Feminine berry-violet-iris perfume with sweet drydown. Again smootly blended Guerlain quality. This is a fun non serious girly girly perfume. Quite stong and longlasting.

ascotnot

Potent. Hints of both Mancera Velvet Vanilla and Montblanc Individuel.

Approaches unisex but doesn't quite make it IMO; maybe with layering.

A woman trailed by a waft of this would not escape my attention. This is nice.

al.azraq

It seems I am probably the only person here who hates it.
I like violets. Really do. But in order to get some I need to suffer through the nauseating overly sweet bubble gummy opening that I just can't stand.
And even after that - when the violets become more prominent - I can still smell the bubble gum.
For me it is the opposite of grown-up perfumes.
It really is a scent from 2000 decade.
Sprayed from an official sample.

If you love the scent of the Guerlain Meteorites pearl powders, THIS is it.
Actually this is BY FAR the most POWDERY fragrance I've ever tried, ESPECIALLY the Insolence eau de parfum.

A delicious powdery blend of sweet purple flowers signature to Guerlain: iris & violet. From first spray the only notes that attack my nose are: Violet, Iris, Musk.

In the eau de toilette you get more fruity notes, while the eau de parfum is much heavier on the violet & musk.
The dry down is still STRONG in violet, iris and musk but the woodsy notes slightly peak through...
No citrus comes to me.

Both the eau de toilette & parfum have very strong sillage and lasting power. Impressive actually. It can easily fill a room.

I must admit that insolence is my guilty pleasure. I KNOW it's not sexy. I KNOW it's not fruity enough & just a sweet purple-floral powder scent. But I CAN'T HELP BUT LOVE IT!

My personal preference: Don't wear this on first dates. Can wear it in the office as it's mature enough for work.

Final verdict: Try before you buy folks

2nd review of Insolence ... I'm going through my perfume collection, selling off what I don't need or like anymore. Since my appreciation of some perfumes has changed, be it for the better or the worse, it's only fair to make note of that change.
So, Insolence ... has left the building, I sold it at a ridiculously low price just to get rid of it. While my first review was positive, and while I remain a violet lover, Insolence proved to be too much. Over time less loved notes arose, like powder and musk, and gradually the scent became overbearing. Looking at the pyramid makes me wonder if the raspberry, iris and tonka are to blame.
Maybe it's my body chemistry, but I. just went berserk on me. Too much powder and a strangely chemical violet note turned what was wonderful suddenly hateful. Very similar to an allergic reaction without the itchy hives, the thought of applying I. made me queasy. To be honest, this entire journey from big like to hate gave me olfactory whiplash. Guerlain is really high on my list of fave houses, and here one of their very popular modern perfumes makes me physically ill. It's weird, is all. These days my violet fix comes from Molinard.

DA BEST !!!
Violet on point in this one <3
LOVE IT since 2006...
Every person on this planet have to have INSOLENCE by Guerlain!

Original bottle version:

Love the edp version, so I decided to try the edt hoping for it to be a summer option. Wow! I love this version even more! The berries pop as much as the violet does in this version. Not as sweet or dark as the edp. The main difference on my skin is that the edp remains fairly linear, and this edt evolves. This one starts out with an initial violet blast, then the fresh berry scent takes over. After a few hours, it morphs into a warm and cozy bubblegum-incense scent...with the violet still gently present.

What age can wear this? If you enjoy it, you are the perfect age! Everyone of all ages should wear whatever they wish. Life is too short to worry about age or other's age hangups! Skin chemistry is what it comes down to with this scent.

I do get all the childhood references. It is a happy scent. A childhood summer day of candy, bubblegum, and playing with make-up and fancy bath sets "borrowed" from mom's bathroom. It is "mature" as in elegant and of fine quality.

soniamcalear

BEAUTIFUL MATURE SCENT!!! This is no Floral by golly. I love the Mature Scent so much thats its my Signature Scent now. No Gourmand, No Floral, just MATURE. Very grounded Berries that come off smelling like a Paper Ream almost. This is almost like Iman Perfume. Very Papery kind of scent. I LOVE THIS SCENT AND ALWAYS WILL. FOREVER MY TYPE.

ejtristan

I'm surprised that this is my favourite Guerlain perfume, but it is--- and there's nothing else like it! Insolence is a mountain stream of clear spring water as it mists into the air at the crack of dawn, picking up the scent of the flowers that grow along its edge. Insolence is clear and direct yet enigmatic. (I say "water" but please understand that there is nothing "aqua" about this perfume. And is that chocolate in the dry down?) I miss the original bottle. It was the best to hold! The round weight of it--- a bowl of violet water--- swirling in the palm of the hand. (Apparently it had to be discontinued because it too closely copied another perfume bottle in existence.) Insolence is amazing. It's soft like air without being powdery. Entirely feminine but never coy or coquettish.

chloematilda

If you love sweet, powdery floral fragrances - this is for you. This is everything I had hoped Apres L'Ondee would be, but wasn't. It has a bigger presence, lasts longer, and is more complex. Vintage powdery violets, sweet roses, a hint of citrus and fruit to keep it fresh, and just enough musk and sandal wood to make it sexy and to keep it from floating off into nothingness. I love this fragrance - this has Sylvaine written all over it. A classic Guerlain scent with an extra shot of va va voom. I bought this in the new Bee bottle, so can't compare with the original, but this has shot up quickly in my "favourites rotation". I've ordered the EDP as well - can't wait to smell it. Beautifully balanced and blended - there is nothing here to offend. A vintage scent with a modern twist.

pweedyadel

Guerlain did it again with this perfume... it has the 80’s smell with Guerlain’s signature... super powdery but long lasting

ilove6kies

This is probably one of the best smelling fragrance out there for floral lovers out there, especially if you are into violet scent with powdery notes. The frosted glass bottle is simply beautiful and elegant - I wouldn't expect less from Guerlain. This fragrance makes me feel so feminine with just the right amount of sweetness and it last all day.

I don't see myself stop using it in my future - highly recommend.

Treslicious

I wish all fruity florals smelled like this. Not juvenile, boring and one dimensional. I blind bought a 50ml original bottle from eBay for $25. Now I regret not getting the largest bottle. This is so delicate and sweet. Delicious berries with a powdery note that adds a lot of elegance. Violet is the star but I do sense the presence of rose. No white florals. Pretty much how I imagined it to be from reading the reviews. No disappointment. This is a classic. It’s signature scent worthy, not just a “fun” scent. I stumbled across this fragrance years ago but did not commit to buying it until I saw that crazy good deal. I’m so glad it’s finally in my life.

Get this if you’re tired of the surplus of generic fruity florals in the market.

Do not get this if you hate powdery notes.

Konga5000

1) Blind Buy. Good price. Tester bottle, old style.
2) Was looking for Yardley April Violets "on steroids".
And I got it!
3) 20 minutes into it- already thinking about a back-up bottle!
4) In ecstasy right now.
----------------------
SUMMERY: Grape-y violet zinger that is well constructed and even has some subtle nuances along the way. Longevity seems better (much better actually) than expected (this is the old bottle NOT the "bee" version). Blind buy safe but only if you are liking what I had just said.

Phantomias

Violet fragrances can be difficult to wear: some are too sweet, others are too powdery. Many are anemic, fading quickly like the real flower. I. manages to avoid all these problems, just as one would expect from a Guerlain. (I'm a big fan of their vintage frags).
I. gets the violet note right, in a very feminine way. This is a woman's perfume, with a vintage vibe. Not at all insolent, I. is strangely misnamed.
Lasting power and sillage are modest, making it work safe. Violet perfumes can be piercing, but this one is a skin scent on me.
While it's not quite the violet extravaganza I was hoping for, it is a very polite and classy perfume.

Miss X

What else can be said about this perfume? I think it's one of the most addictive, I love the dry down and never lacks in my collection.
I was wearing this fragrance the day before I left the country for a few months and I had a "farewell evening" with my then lover for 6 months, convinced we were not going to be together again, as I knew he was a player and a hunter.
Well, he not only didn't forget me all that time, but he managed to find out my arrival flight and found him by surprise at the airport receiving me with a flower bouquet.
I wouldn't like to advocate for romantic love (he was just love-bombing me like a crazy narcissist he was, craving for his candy), but the perfume took part in the image of a sophisticated lolita, that cliché that he, seeking social masculinity approval, was just looking for.

Zana1970

Now this a powehouse perfume, I got the bee bottle..you have to go throw the first 2 minutes, the drydown is wonderfull, okay it is powdery, but this stays on me, even washing it off, and one clothes oh my God, stays for days...it is so hard to find perfumes that stay that long as Insolence, I am so happy with this one!

melialyn

Got a sample of this, but it's just not my cup of tea. It's the edt, and I have found I'm not a fan of overly powerdery scents. But it's helped narrow down my likes and dislikes. I found this very powdery violet and nose tickle sharp sweetness in the background for me. Lasted forever though, sprayed one spray on one of my knit scarves about a month and a half ago and I can still smell it clearly. So quality is definitely there, just not my kind of scent. Would like to try my insolence tho, maybe with almond instead of violet I'd enjoy it more.

lanzsu

I used to wear this fragrance 10 yrs ago. First came an enormous migrain and I just put the bottle reeally deep in my wardrobe saying: never again.
Than somehow I found it, one sniff came after the other and finally I was wearing it. Its a cold scent. I mean ice cold. Beautiful icy rapsberries. If your skin works with it, it becomes an aphrodisiac.

avierra93

I love this perfume. I used to wear it when I was in high school when we would go visit my abuela, the whole car filling with the delicious scent of candied violets and orange blossoms. Of course this was long before I knew anything about how to store fragrance and I left it in my window, where the Sun turned the dainty pink juice to a burnt orangey brown and spoiled the scent. I don't know what happened to the bottle. What a shame. Some 10 years later I have managed to get my hands on a miniature bottle and oh the nostalgia, this perfume is one of the strongest I've ever worn. 5 tiny drops from the splash bottle across my arms and chest around 2pm after getting dressed, it's now past 7pm and I still get little wafts of sweetness here and there. I will have to get a bottle of the edt and edp in the older styles, the bee bottles are lovely but I love unique bottles for each fragrance

dahrling

Based on other's reviews, my suspicion is that this has been reformulated. I bought the new Insolence EDT in the "bee bottle" and it doesn't sound at all like what most reviewers are describing. The Insolence I have is quite light - while it is very long-lasting, the sillage itself is moderate on my skin. There's also nothing about it that makes it smell "old lady-like". If anything, it smells like candy and there's not that much powder to be had here. I love it. It has become one of my favorites, I always get compliments when I wear this. It's a really beautiful fragrance.
P.S: This smells ADDICTIVE in cold weather! It projects a lot better too. So incredibly beautiful - I can picture a fairy wearing this. This does also work in warm weather, but the cold really makes this one shine!

locknotes06

I bought 2 bottle testers of this blindy. One from 2017 and the other,2016.

From the comments I've read mostly on potent this EDT is,I'm a little bit disappointed with the sillage of this.It doesn't have a good projection really.Maybe for the pre-formulated ones it is.But on me,it's not.The Longevity is around 5 hours max.7 if I'm lucky and a day or two on clothes. What can I do to make this project well?I love this scent and it has grew on me?Perhaps, the EDP?

To review the scent,It's a really really nice violet scent.I feel like it's more of a luxurious cream than powder on me.After awhile of it sitting on my skin,I can detect the berry note in this one. It's a really unique scent.I wish I bought the EDP earlier last year back in Libya but it made me retract because it was so damn potent. But now that I'm preffering more of the strong sillage perfumes with great projection, this disappoints me on that part plus the longevity on skin.I have a tendency to dislike to retouch perfumes throughout the day.

I'll try the EDP sometime this year if I'm lucky enough to find and get ahold of a bottle of it here.

onimoka

This one is for the EdT.

Soft, powdery and creamy-fruitish. Violet note is dominating from start till the end. It is very elegant, feminine and close to skin fragrance. This one lasts longer on closes but develops better on skin. It does not hold for 8 hours, but i like this way better. Works with both colder and warmer weather. This fragrance is to remember, it could be a signature no doubt.

I was looking for some inoffensive and cozy fragrance, well i got one more in my collection and it will keep me happy for sometime now ( at least til next good deal or swap, you know how it is LOL).
P.S No grandma, no "too sweet", no fresh alike, nor headache either. However, i would not overdo this, otherwise i can see why people are talking about those headaches.

shinayu

I just received my bottle of EDT from my first ever FragranceX order and am pleasantly surprised by how fast their service is (I guess it's because I only ordered this one item but I live in Sydney, Australia though). It's definitely genuine and packaged nicely in a secure carton box.

Onto the actual perfume itself...I ordered the old packaging and I am glad I did so. I think with perfumes especially with one that's got an established name such as Insolence, you need to order the original edition (since it still exists).

To my surprise, this one smells a little bit "older" (as in more of that "vintage" powdery scent that perfumes got) than I remember when I tested in the department store with the new packaging. Maybe because my senses were all over the place with other perfume smells and other perfumes I was trying on. I need to try the new bottle again for sure cos it's been weeks.

This one is definitely powdery but not to the point that it makes you feel completely grandma ish which I dislike as I'm still in my mid 20s (some people might like that but I personally don't). It adds maturity to the sweetness so it makes the scent feels more elegant rather than childish girly. It is a scent that reminds me of my mum's vanity with her box of old makeup. It's got that vintage feel yet still can be worn in a modern time like today.

I keep smelling the scent as I type...I definitely don't have anything like this in my small collection as I only just started collecting. I am glad I stick to the OG edition that's all I want to say.

reanimatedwest

If Godzilla drank a bottle of L’heure Bleue, Insolence is what you’d smell on his flaming breath as he scorched you.

bronni666

on me, this is very strong iris and violet scent smells like it was based on oils. syrupy, resinous. almost sickly. thank god i didnt buy the edp. i think its more a winter scent so its going away for 6 months. its summer in australia.

EmmaBelle

I'm getting a strong dry violet and iris scent, which is impressive from an EDT. Underneath the floral lies a smokey resin base, softened by the musk. There's a slight powder which gives it a hint of vintage but not overly so. As soon as I think I smell sweetness in this, the resin takes over.

Thank you to Hayley_6 for the decant. I really wanted to love this, so I'm glad I tested before I bought a bottle. It's too smokey and dry for me and made my head a little achy.

dnque

Bubble gum. I don't like it.

ras.kel.5

A nice option for the warmer months for those who love the EDP version. It's not as sweet or powdery as the EDP, it's fresh and cool thanks to the presence of musk in the base. Feminine and more playful than the EDP, can be worn by those who feel the EDP is too mature and serious.

scentitar

Heady, Rich Fruity, slightly powdery and quite lovely

I wasn't expecting the clean patchouli-like smell in the base, but loved it. I usually don't like vanilla fragrances either, but this one has a nice blend. Sexy and a little deep, yet playful.

As a man this is one of my favorite daily wear perfumes that a women can wear , along with mugler angel muse.

5 to 7 hours longevity and fair projection, but good sillage.

I recommend a sniff !

louiee

Really adore the cadid violets in this one. Smells feminine, clean and flowery. One of my all time favorites on the bathroom shelf. Powdery and fluffy as a cloud. LOVE <3 I Will never ever get tired of that scent. Silage and longevity way above average. Worth every penny!

PinkRainbow

A fruit-filled dream of a scent with an undertone of sweet musk. This scent has a longevity and silage to be reckoned with! Amazing staying power with a totally addictive scent. A true classic that works in any season.

Sabretoothkitten

Just got this today in a swap, I've always wanted to try it. It's just liked i imagined, sweet candied violets, powdery, a bit more modern feeling than most Geurlains. Love ! And the bottle is super cute.

Christopher Cupcakes

One of my favorites from Guerlain. Its sweet, bright berries. The dry down becomes softer and more floral. I love the beautiful and unique design of the bottle as well.

silent_hill_dylan

There is not much I can say about this perfume that hasn't already been said, so I instead leave you with this -
Layer this with Angel Eau Sucree by Mugler.

You're welcome.

Catty

I´m a Insolence Fan! I wear edp in autumn/winter and as I couldn´t stay without it for my summer, it just arrived the edt.

The same elegance from the edp is in the edt thanks to the classic "Guerlain" powdery notes and also to some "guerlinade" accord notes, which are here present (as almost in all Guerlain scents) with the rose, tonka bean, resins, Iris.

The contemporary side in this scent comes from the citrus notes that cuts subtly this powdery sweetness together with the musk at the end.

That´s why edt is more fresh and delicate than the edp and also more wearable during day time in spring/summer. But the "Guerlain" DNA: their unmistakable powdery class and the proper elegance of Insolence identity, given by this modern and young violet are present in both versions.

For me the most amazing and modern violet scent creation (edt and edp) after the 70´s and 80´s with all the guerlainish class, elegance and top "savoir faire".

cedar_lea

I stumbled across this bottle and bought it blind and I am so glad I did. I knew I'd wanted a good violet in my life and this is a great candied violet that goes incredibly well with the raspberry. Absolutely wonderful!

I must admit that I am typically scared of iris. It often goes very wrong on my skin. I can tell there is an iris note here, but it is a cosmetic powder scent that stays in the background and doesn't try to take over. Well done!

Le parfum c'est chic

When Insolence was lunch I was really eager to smell it because I adore violet. Sadly, it was not a love at first sniff. The Guerlain I love and wear where the Chypre ones like Mitsouko, Vol de nuit and Parure. Insolence was a bit too sweet and loud for my taste back then. Recently I explored the gourmand territory and was really surprise to like some sweet stuff. So now I can deal with the sweet side of Insolence. It's not my favorite Guerlain but when I saw a bottle at $15, I jump on it. The original bottle design by the great artist Serge Mansau is like a little sculpture. Sadly, Guerlain use the abeille/bee bottle for Insolence now.As a design lover and fan of Serge Mansau, my ''vintage'' Insolence bottle is priceless.

socorrosouza

The tricks the nose plays: all I get from this is heavy tuberose (which I detest) and there is not even tuberose in this. Headache inducing (because of the stroong tuberose smell) but super long lasting and with heavy sillage for 3/4 hours. Even the dupe had the same heavy tuberose smell. And I love violet...

reenpea

Mmmm I love this! At first spray I get violets and fluffy pink bubblegum that then turns into a beautiful soft musk and honey...with soapy incense. It’s SUUUUPER strong, one spray on my wrist and the whole room is full of Insolence- my baby now smells of it too! I think he smells delicious :)

tinabelcher

This was the fragrance that made me accept the fact that Guerlain fragrances & I do not get along. Bought a bottle because it was on sale & because of the good reviews I read. Instant headache, & I'm not fragrance sensitive at all. Probably the biggest blind buy mistake of my life

denizandbeyond_4

Feminine, powdery, flirty violet scent!
There is a very distinct smell. I really loved it very much!
Meteorites series also smell Incolence. It lasts for hours on skin, and days on clothes.
Bottle= 7.5 /10
scent=7.5 /10
Longevity= 8/10

fluffydeathkitty

For the record, I tried the EDT in the frosted glass bottle, not the one pictured. It was love at first sniff. This is the most heavenly powdery violet-rose I have ever encountered, but not the innocent baby-like type. The resins and citrus give it a subtle but noticeable femininity. One spray lasted a good 6 hours with moderate sillage. This is definitely the winner of My Next Perfume award. :)

PricklyAndHot

If edp is more floral (violet) and noble, this edt is sweet and very raspberry. Maybe Hanae Mori lovers will like it, but this edt is more powdery.

It's yummy. Generally, I like it. If I didn't have Hanae Mori, I would buy it maybe. I usually don't like raspberry in fragrances, but this one is well done.

dinka.begić

juicy fresh powdery violet heaven!! i'm in love! now that i've got it i'm officially ready for spring!

zoe858

I just got this perfume and I brought it on a blind buy (well after reading the reviews on here). I must say I absolutely love it....So glad I took a chance. It's strong so you only need a little bit...I have no idea how to describe it other than its a complex, ultra feminine, warrior chic type of scent. It's for the woman who knows what she wants and gets it.

Frangipanilove

To me this scent is a current day version of the classic L'Heure Bleue, which incidentally was one of my very first perfumes. I always found it slightly irritating especially after a while, the scent was too much, but kept getting complimented on it - its one of these strange like it but don't like it scents. Its quite heavy and definitely noticeable, I tend to veer towards much lighter and brighter, but still complex frangrances these days. So - there is something in this that I really like AND something that also irritates me :)

Contessa01

I love this, and the fact that where I live not many people wear it. It tends to be overlooked so it’s nice smelling original in a pleasant yet sexy (in my opinion) fragrance. I feel like it’s really unique with how the violets and berries blend without being relegating to ‘laundry powder’. I think that a close comparison I could make would be Dior Pure Poison which I tired of after forcing myself to wear it being one of my few high end perfumes at the time. Don’t get me wrong, pure poison is worthy of the love it gets for being unashamedly itself in all its glory. But while I didn’t mind it I would be told I smelled of washing powder constantly. Then I discovered Insolence and fell head over heels. I have another flanker on the way too. But it is worth noting that the edt is very different from the edp. I definitely prefer the edt as rare as that is. It’s softer but still has staying power. This is an absolutely brilliant fragrance and one of my secret weapons so to speak! I’m still deciding on if to get my insolence.

Chic-girl

I like very much how this smells from the beginning, but the tonka beans start to come through and gives it gourmand vanilla kind tone which I don't like.
I think withouth that tonka base note I would really love this.
Maybe there is some other fresher Insolence to me, like Insolence Blooming or Insolence Eau Glacee, but hard to tell, I Would love to get some samples to buy.

Having been an avid palma violet sweet eater as a child - walking home from school buying 10 packets at 5 p each and excitedly smelling and rubbing on my skin for that palma violet note / i have now found my little nostalgic guilty pleasure . I do find this a very niche perfume .. nobody i knew back then liked the taste or smell of palma violets .. and to this day i do not think they are that popular .
I believe this perfume has many many elements , but this is what sticks out to me:
First spray -is a strong powdery fruity zesty bouquet , i must admit it can be a little chaotic at first - kind of like a mad friday dash
But give it time - iris and rose come through - with a touch of tonka bean
Then my all time fave sweety palma violet with a hint of rasberry and orange appear ..
dry down is just pure sweet palma violets.. subtle iris and Sweet raisins ..such powdery sweet. Bliss .
10/10

Staying power is immense ! All day and then some . Sillage amazing 10/10

rihabi

It's too strong for me and the violet-iris mixture is overwhelming. It's alright in 30 minutes, but it's too specific and sharp at first and maybe i'll pass.

Ohhellozippy

I prefer the Eau glacée by a mile and a half. This is too powdery for moi.
I don't mind it at all, it'a actually a very beautiful feminine violet/iris and berry scent. It just doesn't work on me.
Would recommend to try before buying

Midnight Lady

Violet hugging raspberry and creating sweet (for me too much), soft and cozy powdery scent. It's not something I would wear, but I can see why some people like it.

To me it smells like a cotton candy or expensive powder, make up.

To me 6/10.

Lucille29

I had a tiny bottle of this a few years back (one 5ml in a multi-pack by Guerlain). I loved it and remember loving it and so decided to by a bottle with some Christmas money, I was craving a powdery purple flower scent.

I am glad I did. Its stunning, sweet, powdery, clean and warm.

I got this in the beautiful vintage bee bottle - I adore it. Smells just as nice as it looks.

Longevity is good on me - sprayed it last night when I went out with friends and smelt it on my wrist this morning upon waking.

It will be a repurchase for me when I run out, I hope the new Bee Bottles are here to stay. Very chic!

LuluSaintly

A ton of sugary violet and rose. Very good projection. Dries down to a generic berry sweetness on me. Reminds me of YSL Parisienne.

malindajoquinn

What a beauty! It opens as a dry, cold powder - I typically struggle with those type of scents, because they're usually paired with licorice. Thank god Insolence has licorice nowhere in sight. This could easily be a younger, more modern version of L'Heure Bleue thanks to that little hint of sweet berry which adds some sparkle to this violet and iris powder bomb.
After a few hours this scent really blooms into it's peak sweetness when the scent transforms from a dusting of scented face powder to a creamy high-end tube of lipstick.
Anyone who adores powdery makeup/lipstick scents will want this in their collection. It's truly an elegant experience.

perfumeglam87

This fragrance is so beautiful. It's everything a perfume should be and smell like. Classy. Not a teeny bop syrup perfume at all ladies. This is for mature females young and older. I have the edt but it's so strong and long lasting. It's powdery like your makeup, then sweet violet blended with the raspberry. I also smell the rose so heavy I am in love! Classy, Elegant,Smart,Sophisticated ladies this is your fragrance! Xo

ANNAFRYS

with all my love for Guerlain.. this one.. is really bad.

dessyslava-

I have had this one when I was in high school and I really enjoyed wearing it - a bottle lasted a whole year, I still keep it and smell it from time to time. It's so feminine and inviting, but at the same time far from typical or boring. Maybe someday I will purchase it again. Definitely a fragrance that makes me smile, very suitable for spring, could be worn with casual or more official clothes, more or less makeup and for almost any occasion I could think of. Unique but versatile, I love it. Sillage and longevity are great. :)

dipisor

I feel such a beautiful candied raspberry here, along with the powdery violet. Very unique, like all the Insolence line. Kind of an addicted scent. This one screams for hugs. It's different from the EDP and deffinitely worth having both.

Nikol2

Insolence for me is like find a soulmate among perfumes. I feel guerlain gave me second skin, it's really incredible how this suits my body chemistry. Love it!

Minnie02

So I finally found a store that had a tester of Insolence EDT and it's a love! I was convinced I wouldn't like it and was ready to dismiss it, but my oh my, this is lovely!

To me, this smells like sweet berry candy with a touch of powder. The powder does let go after a bit, leaving you with just the candy, sweet and tart. It reminds me a bit of those Smarties (Rockets for Canadians) or SweetTarts candies without actually smelling childish/juvenile.

This is definitely going on my want list!

cocolover56

I'm sorry, but I despise this. The EDT is a girl's scent, like a cheap deodorant. Definitely not something I'd like to be caught wearing at even my worst of moments. Do yourself a favour and go for the EDP

Smells_Good

A full sized bottle has been on my want list from the moment I first tried it. However my recent experience hasn't been very good after becoming very nauseated from the very strong powder smell. It felt very suffocating with the over abundance of vanilla, powder and everything sweet. I couldn't wait to wash it off but could still smell it on me after doing so. Safe to say that it does have amazing staying power as it lingered for days in my clothes and bedding. Maybe I oversprayed but that was with a spray on each wrist.

Awater01

I just sprayed from the original bottle of this I got shortly after it was released in 2006, and it's still a complete beast of a perfume. One tiny spray is enough to create a nuclear fallout of violets and red berries. Though I am enamoured by this scent, it's strength is still too much for me. I gave my bottle to my mother many years ago, who loves it and doesn't have the sensitivity problem I do. Sometimes perfumes you appreciate, are just not comfortable to wear. But at least I can sneak a spray to reminisce whenever I'm home. Every now and then the masochist in me craves some death by violets.

AnitaHendricks

This fabulous perfume reminds me of bubblegum. It's a classy, elegant piece of bubblegum. I think this is the effect of the raspberry, tonka and resin notes. The violet is also sweet. This note reminds me of violet candies. I can picture a woman in a pink buisiness suit when I smell this scent. She wears the Guerlain elegance in a serious way but she's also a lot of fun! I Love this combination. The citrus notes are fresh and subtile in the opening. They go very well with the fresh, feminine florals. The sandalwood and musk become more noticable at the end of the day. I love it!

Gui1976

I had bought Love, Chloe for the second time (as I was craving for something elegant and powdery). I had worn it around 2 years ago and I was missing that soapy-powderyness!
I didn't open the box when I returned home from Sephora (luckily!).
The very next day I heard a dear friend of mine praising Insolence and I thought "let's try it" (I don't know how I hadn't until then).
When I did... OmG! I just loved it.
It's powdery, given the iris role in this composition and it just is a happy scent. Strong and soft simultaneously, very feminine and happy. But definitely Not in a girly way...
I love Love, Chloe, but I think it has a nostalgic side to it that in this moment in my life I don't need. I need something that instantly makes me feel happy.
I exchanged Love, Chloe for Insolence EDT. And I do not regret it. (Still love LC, though)

Saeka

Shocking news!!

Guerlain SA told me yesterday that INSOLENCE and IDYLLE bottle would be changed to Bee Bottles. Better get the original beautiful bottles ASAP!!

atractenberg

The bottle is beautiful and it smells musky.

VanilllaPrincess

I don't see this as a seductive or naughty fragrance. I wore this on my wedding day. It feels very 'royal' to me but a young royal - like a Kate Middleton royal haha. I now wear it only occasionally.

geanina_gandac

As the title underlines this is a naughty perfume for naughty girls. It opens with a fruity cocktail with a bitter note. It is a juicy sparkling opening. After a while, a powdery violet appears and dominates the heart of the perfume. The tonka from the base gives a sweet touch to this graceful violet.
Although it is a floral fruity it has something classic and warm. The fruitiness is fun, light and nasty. It suits the playful, challenging women. It is a perfume full of challenges and not simple at all, as one might think. It has its own trace, a powdery one, soaked in violet. Violet is such a pretty and lovely flower and this perfume highlights it in its own way. Nice bottle, nice liquid.
If you want to try a different floral fruity, with a wonderful creamy violet, with a naughty touch, made by two of the best perfumers, than this is the one. One of the prettiest violet fragrance.

JamesAQ4

starts off floral, a little fruity, really nice. smells wonderful on my wife. definitely a women only fragrance, not something any man could pull off.

StarMagix

I just got an EDP version of this fragrance! I have always had the EDT and never knew an EDP was available until recently. Guess I am far behind the times! The EDP version is not as sharp to my nose as the EDT and I do love it even more so. The notes are very much the same only even more elegant and it last forever on my skin and clothes! Such a wonderful classic scent from Guerlain. I hope they never change the formula, nor discontinue this beautiful scent.

applestrudle

Beautiful! Starts with a pretty, powdery sweet violet, then turns juicy. Absolutely great!

katja blue

Elegant fruity floral.long lasting and complex.I detect mostly violet, raspberry, iris and cranberry. It's slightly powdery and barely sweet. Not exactly my cup of tea but definitely impressive and worth trying.

ellebunny

I love this perfume SO much that I do own both the EDP and EDT, and I definitely have my feet planted firmly in the Team EDP boat. I'd say that if you have one, you don't really need the other, but if you love this fragrance or are crazy about violets just as much as I do, go ahead and knock yourself out. :)

The first thing you'll notice is that the EDT right off the bat has a lot of 'pinkness' to it; you can sense right away that it is a more youthful version, and the fluffier, girly frou-frou version of the two. In the EDT, you're hit with the candied hairspray note right away along with raspberry; it's not in the official note description but when compared with the EDP, the EDT has an unmistakable cotton candy (ethyl maltol) note. The EDP is more linear in its development, but is a lot richer and dense throughout its evolution; you get the powder and candied Parma violets right away, but it's also a lot woodier, darker, spicier, and deeper in every way you can think of. Both have an anisic powder quality to it, although it's more intensive in the EDP. The best part of both of these are the drydowns, as this really beautiful vanilla tonka bean note appears. The EDT has a more sugary renditiion of it, whilst the EDP has some more sandalwood to balance it. There is definitely an undeniable 'gothic' quality to the EDP that can also be sensed in Lolita Lempicka EDP. The EDP is more mysterious, yet campy and kitschy in her sexuality like Elivra, whilst the EDT is bubbly, ditzy, but still very composed, like Carrie Bradshaw out for a night on the town. The EDT in its drydown is more bubblegum-like and has less violet and more vegetal iris in its drydown, whilst the EDP is full-blown 'violets on crack', as ouch110 puts it. The EDP is more of a giant violet soliflore with every other note only acting as an accent to it, coloured a deep radioactive purple, while the EDT is the girliest of pinks, being the ultimate fruity floral.

On initial spray, the EDT and EDP seem to be of equal sillage and strength but in the end, the EDP is definitely better in both regards. Still, the EDT is very impressive for being an EDT.

emi_artist

very similar to the now defunct Tuca Tuca by Lush, but with (only slightly) more subtlety, in keeping with Guerlain's love of good blending and a spot of Guerlinade in the base. But I suspect Tuca Tuca's ingredients may be more natural and less chemical than Insolence's EDT.

A cloying violet perfume which goes very well with a Goth look, but it is unfortunately also quite headache-inducing as it's relentless in its sillage and strength, almost in pursuit of shock tactics.

Justly called Insolence as it's too posh to call it Vulgarity.

kitpup9

I just received this today and decided to try it after I showered. It's been about 5 hours and is still going strong. My husband noticed it immediately as something "new" and gave it thumbs up. I think "sassy!" would be a good description for this fragrance.

xJessax

I got this as a Valentine's Day gift from my sweetheart. <3 I have coveted this perfume for ages now, as a huge fan of violets, I knew I had to try it! The scent itself is challenging for me to put into words. In the opening it's bright and radiant, the raspberry and citrus explode from the first spray. While, I'm not a huge fan of citrus fragrances this one really surprised me! My favorite part about this fragrance is the heart. I can clearly detect the violets, orange blossom, pulverized fruit, and a slight powdery note. Insolence to me is chic, bold, and completely carefree. I love this perfume dearly, not only for the sentimental value it holds in my heart, but also because it makes me feel empowered and confident, while still being very girly and fun. I would love to try the EDP version, and I get the feeling I will love it unconditionally. Though, I'm not sure I will ever be fully able to express it. Insolence is the scent of my blooming romance, I will cherish it forever.

Longevity: 5-6 hours on my skin before fading into a subtle whisper of powdery violets and tonka bean.
Sillage: Moderate to heavy - go easy on the trigger!
Overall rating: 9/10 - It's not a creamy, smooth fragrance at all. This is when i'm in the mood to be daring. <3

joliecat

Guerlain Insolence is really not powdery. It only has a slight "feeling" of powder, chic powdery, not real powder. If you love powder, mix this with Ulrich Varens Ciel to get a real powder base. This mixture calms the sharpness of the tart fruit and smooths out Insolence beautifully, making it smell richer and expensive, rather than like a common tart fruity concoction. This combination also smooths out the Guerlain base, gently sweetening the bitterness of the musk, adding a seductive feminine charm. Ciel also helps this Insolence last longer with better projection.

jumblecupcake

I do not think it is powdery at all. All I get is juicy fruit punch.

Sniezel

I used to love it but then I accidentally stumbled upon Insolence in the purple bottle. Try that one instead of this one, it's the same scent but sillage and longevity are WAY up compared to this variant.

Moon Lion

I'm going to quote other reviewers here because they've done such a bang-up job of descriptions.

"Insolence is not a simple perfume to describe... very modern Guerlain scent...but yet I'm not sure if it matches my chemistry...it is a sophisticated adult twist on a young floral scent...the word insolence is defined as bold disrespect and impudence...I find nothing of that definition matching with the feeling or theme of this perfume or bottle...the perfume is cutesy, youthful, playful, and adorable...unlike so many others on the market for the past 15 years or so: unsubtle gourmand scents dominated by excessive artificial fruit and vanilla-- Insolence manages to combine them in a balanced, even sophisticated, way with florals...the scent is gentle and delicate, while at the same time there is clearly art involved in the creation of this youthful fragrance...it's sugared violets, violet syrup, plum wine, then a swirl of creamy...the most beautiful powdery violets and velvety rose, delicious fruits and even a bit of citrus. Lovely, powdery soft but strong, sweet, rich and elegant, romantic perfume..."

I detect none of the base notes at all ...NONE. It's Guerlain! But not for my chemistry, or tastes.

I have a dabber bottle up of the EDT available. PM me.

Madrona

Guerlainade + bubblegum is indeed getting close to what's going on in this one. Still, this one is sharper and more floral than I remember My Insolence being, so I guess that one leans more to the latter, this one to the former.

I don't see what's so insolent about this one scent-wise, it's a kind of pinkish purplish (I guess that makes the color violet) soupy simmery concoction of berry juice, violet and iris with a touch of musky rose and generic base notes. I guess the insolence comes from the sillage, because HOLY SHIT THAT IS RADIATING *A LOT* FROM MY ARM. Go lightly with this one or be insolent and don't. Though in that case I would feel sorry for any asthmatics or migraine sufferers around you.

judyk

Guerlainade + bubblegum.

Once it dries down it gets a little more interesting. I can pick out the violet, raspberry and musk as distinct notes, plus something vaguely woody that might be the sandalwood. But by this point the perfume is so faint I have to press my nose to my wrist to smell anything at all.

No.

minusvminus

GUERLAIN WHY DID YOU DO ME DIRTY LIKE THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Okay so it smells like Mistolin Baby. That's a cleaning product in case you were wondering. Yeah I'm BEYOND upset. PERFECT sillage and AMAZING longevity-Smells like Mistolin, I cannot overlook that. Anyone wanna trade for a basically unused 1 oz bottle? Hit me up.

blake.lee

I own and love Insolence EDP and My Insolence. I assumed Insolence EDT would be a safe blind but for me. I was wrong. I don't like this one. I love the EDP because it's so in your face unapologetic violet explosion, so overbearing "I'm Violet! Love me or hate me, you can never say I'm not being myself!" And I love My Insolence because she's such a girl! She loves everything pink and fluffy. She's into sweets and kittens. Soft, innocent but a little cheeky. Insolence EDT on the other hand is mediocre. She makes no real statement. Smells like hairspray in the beginning and then has none of the power of the EDP or girlish fruity charm of My Insolence. A subtle violet with a hint of berry. I suppose it's not bad, only boring powdery scent. Maybe I would have liked it if I tried it first, but I didn't and I don't.

njn

I'm a fruity floral lover and have been a bit hesitant when it comes to Guerlain perfumes as I associate them being challenging. Well, no longer. I miss the good old quality perfumes that were easily found back in the days, and that is what appealed to me in Guerlain. First I fell in love with La Petite Robe Noir EdP. Soon after I researched more and found Insolence to be a good candidate. No where to be found in stores, so a blind buy for a reasonable price. I'm so happy! It has that old school charm I have been missing, lovely and feminin soft warm cloud surrounds me.

noirmoi

Insolence is divine and delicious. The most beautiful powdery violets! And velvety rose, and gorgeous resins, delicious fruits and even a bit of citrus. Lovely, powdery soft but strong, sweet, rich and elegant, romantic perfume. Fantastic. Gorgeous!

VioletNoir

Dont get me wrong i do think this smells good but its not really my type...too powdery and too much floral. I would be happy to swap this with someone who may want it. I have a full bottle PM interested

feelyah

The amazing fragrance of guerlain powder turned into essence. Elegant, sophisticated and feminine. Not for all

LenaT

This perfume is divine. Yes, the violets are dominant. Yet it dries down sweet. I am in love with this perfume.

tinpanalley

this reminds me of Gloria Vanderbilt. Same strong, heavy, vintage fragrance. A twin.

LLB_addict

I must say that this is the ONLY fragrance that I own and LOVE equally EVERY flanker! I put this on around 2pm today and have been running errands, hauling things, working by butt off and sweating! It is now 7pm and this is STILL going super strong. I can even smell its sillage to my nose after my body core temperature has cooled down completely. Absolutely amazing juice.......take your pick as to which you might like to experience first. You HAVE to LOVE violets though lol

dyaver

I definitely smell anise in the opening, I'm surprised it's not listed in the notes. Sweet berries are undoubtedly there. Insolence reminds me of YSL Paris, probably due to the combination of violet, rose and iris. It's a heavy, powdery and sweet floral scent. Unfortunately too nauseating for me.

kitsunemagic

Wish I got the later versions if this since I know Guerlain is now reformulating and watering their perfumes down, I got the 2016 formulation, oh well... anyway

I gotta say this scent is Nice, and it does smell very much like the EDP only this is more friendly for the day time and for those who aren't big on how heavy the EDP is.
When I smell Insolence I smell syrupy berries, roses, powder and lipstick. Insolence edt is the Much lighter and brighter Gothic Lolita compared to its heavier and darker EDP counterpart

pfelis

A strong luxurious baby powder, makeup, violet candies, Paris, elegance, love... This perfume reminds me of these things. Oh and cats! Yeah cats, they are lovely, soft, fuzzy, fluffy, sweet yet independent, sharp and fierce. I think it represents a woman who is both sweet and girly yet charismatic and strong. I love it!

Code1ne

Mr. Bubble, violet candies, raspberry shower gel, faint Revlon lipstick and a whimsical-yet-refined fresh/powdery sillage. That's what Insolence is to me.

You know how gourmands tend to be evocative of childhood? So is this. It's actually almost a gourmand itself, but a fresh gourmand. It is sweet though, and almost edible, but more in the sense of having the aroma of certain candies rather than straight-up smelling like them. I first fell in love with Insolence when I smelled it on a magazine strip as a kid. That right there is nostalgic, since I hardly ever read magazines anymore. I tried it again in my teens but didn't love it, it somehow smelled different, and so I ignored it for a few more years. Now I'm in my 20s and decided to revisit it. I don't know what happened, but somehow it's just as I remembered it from my childhood! Perhaps it was reformulated and my decant was from an older bottle or perhaps it's due to my skin chemistry changing, but whatever-I'll take it! It makes me feel 11 again without smelling like I'm 11 because it's still got that elegant, powdery guerlinade. It's anything but insolent, but I adore it!

on the noze

LOOK AT THIS! With over 2400 votes! And so many reviews!
This info is for the EdP Insolence.
Only thing I can add to these reviews is that I have a test strip with one spray on it from 5 DAYS AGO and it is still going strong. I'm surprised it only scores a 3.40 out of 5.

Yet another beautiful Guerlain.

Oh and of course it is full bottle worthy even without that gorgeous bottle and even more so with it! I'm there for a 50ml asap.
May I also add it is good value for your money with really reasonable price tag and in 30, 50 and 100ml sizes.

Have you ever said the word "nice" and it comes out as a two syllable word? The voice drops in pitch mid-word and you get "ni-ice". That's how I feel about Insolence. Meaning that it's not a love. Probably not a helpful description, I know.

I don't find it overwhelming as some others do. I'm into iris as a note at the moment and I enjoy this aspect of Insolence, perhaps moreso than the violet. I didn't grow up with violet candies, but all the references to these make me wish that I had!

However, out of all this I've found a winning layering solution! I layer Insolence with Paul Smith Rose and I'm extremely happy! The result is somewhere in the region of Paris, which I resist buying because it is a co-worker's signature ;) The sillage and longevity is excellent!

All in all, this blind buy turned out for the best!

marwa.qoura

My friend wears this and it seems she is the only one in this world who can pull it nicely ...I love powdery accords and I adore violets , but this particular scent is the monster of violets very strong and offensive in a way , It doesn't sneak into your senses and self as violets should do , it shocks them !
Can't like it ...

kinetisphere

I have seen and read mixed reviews on this scent.

To me i get a pretty, powdery floral that last for hours.

She starts off with a berry infused iris dominant blast of sexiness. As a heterosexual man. I would love this on my wife or GF. Theres something elegant and very pleasing to my nose. Personally i love this one. As for the name. I think it should have a different name. The lady who wears this doesnt depict an insolent person.

Maybe i just don't get the name.

Regardless, this is a beautiful perfume that can be worn year round dressed up or causal.

Longevity and sillage is outstanding in this fragrance.

You could easily get a days worth of performance out of this bad girl.

This and parfum initial are my 2 favorite ladies perfumes from the house of guerlain. Followed by shalimar.

Thank you for reading.
i hope i could have been some kinda help for someone whom has questions about this fantastic fragrance!

Kind regards. Lj

hzsvitamin

Sexy, sexy, sexy. And sexy. Also very sexy. Yum.

gtabasso

I disagree that this is a young woman's scent. I am 47 and hate fruit scents. I got it for a deal on ebay blind buy and thought I would loathe it. I also thought it would be a light summer scent. Not true. This goes on the typical Guerlain Koolaid. Yes, it has fruit but is balanced by the violet and iris and the powdery spices. This isn't heavy on the vanilla as I expected. It is powerful and strong. I like it. Not love, but like.

celebrity89

My 90 year old neighbor spilled a bottle of perfume that I assumed was Red Door. It turned out to be a mini Insolence, and my buzz has been harshed. This has left a bad association in my mind. It smells so old fashioned to me now. So sad.

ScarlettX

It’s bitter and doesn’t seem very pleasant to me. I can sense very bitter violet and if I think about it long enough, some raspberry as well. But this is not a good composition. Far from that. Too much for me.

polly golightly

PinkRainbow

Tangy fruity scent with an unusual twist that I can't quite identify... but I like it. Light, but with excellent projection and longevity.

SueLidstone

Wow, I can't believe the good reviews on this. To me this is one of the worst perfumes I've ever smelled. I couldn't even sell it or give it away, it was given to me by my Sister, who also got it as a gift. It is so strong and offensively overpowering, very heavy powder on my skin. Like I dumped half a bottle of baby powder over my head. Also, I get a licorice scent and also a screeching violet. Old rancid flowers, licorice, and heavy powder. No thanks.

tessa2809

Powdery raspberry goodness! The artificial violet reminds me of Paco Rabanne's Ultraviolet. Yet, the artificial undertone does not bother me, instead it seems very fitting: this perfume is bold, brash and fun. I mostly wear this when I have important stuff to do. It makes me feel assertive and powerful and not to be messed with. Great sillage and longevity as well.

Edit: I'm currently at work and just caught a beautiful whiff of sandalwood incense. 'Wow', I thought, 'who is that'? Then I realised: it was me. Insolence never ceases to amaze!

Gigi The Fashionista

Insolence is far from insolent. I wish it had been insolent and vulgar, dirty, skanky, animalic. But this is a delicate, soft sweet berry scent. It's supposed to have some of the Guerlain touches in Meteorites and Apres L'Ondee but I feel that it's a completely different animal. This is a really nice, girly but yet sophisticated, feminine, sweet but not cloying. It opens sweetly with red berries and raspberry. It smells like a raspberry ice cream. Then the scent turns only the slightest bit flowery and powdery-flowery with rose, iris and violet. These 3 flowers each turn to powder. This perfume is one of those 1950's boudoir scents I've known before. Once the fruits, powder and flowers begin to dry down it's a lovely but light sandalwood and vanilla. The vanilla comes in the form of Tonka. A lovely perfume that smells really good. It's for a newcomer to the Guerlain fragrances, one who is not yet ready to take on the more mature masterpieces like Shalimar or L'Heure Bleu. This is a sweet and pretty perfume. The bottle is great. However it can smell pretty linear and a tad on the dull side so this is something you wear when you just want to smell pretty and don't want to make a big statement. I would recommend Meteorites. Checking to see if it's been discontinued, I still have 2 Meteorites in my collection). Meteorities is also pretty feminine and lovely without being too strong and yet more full bodied than this one. The bottle is nice to look at in your vanity or dresser table. Not a bad scent just nothing to go nuts about.
