Amarige by Givenchy is a Floral fragrance for women. Amarige was launched in 1991. The nose behind this fragrance is Dominique Ropion. Top notes are Orange Blossom, Peach, Plum, Neroli, Brazilian Rosewood, Violet and Mandarin Orange; middle notes are Tuberose, Mimosa, Gardenia, Ylang-Ylang, Jasmine, Black locust, Carnation, Red Berries, Black Currant, Rose, Cassia and Orchid; base notes are Sandalwood, Woody Notes, Amber, Vanilla, Musk, Tonka Bean and Cedar.

The name of the perfume 'Amarige' is an anagram of the French word 'Mariage.' That is why this fragrance is as intensive as a strong feeling, merry, juicy and unforgettable as a moment of happy mariage. It is so opulent and floral that it seems like its composition includes all the beautiful flowers that exist in the world.

The Amarige woman is graceful, playful and charming, a real French woman in love. She radiates joy and gives a happy smile. The top notes are composed of fresh fruit: peach, plum, orange, mandarin, with the sweetness of rose wood and neroli. The floral bouquet, very intense and luscious, is created of mimosa, neroli, tuberose, gardenia and acacia with a gourmand hint of black currant. The warm woody base is composed of musk, sandalwood, vanilla, amber, Tonka bean and cedar.
The perfume was created by Dominique Ropion in 1991.

a gorgeous white floral scent with the perfect amount of sweetness and freshness. it's elegant and timeless, and i think any age category would appreciate this. i think i have an older bottle (pre-owned) because it's long lasting with a strong sillage. i randomly layered it with J'adore Parfum d'eau by Dior today and i highly recommend this combo, although Amarige is wayyy stronger.

Goofy79

A perfume I used to love and admire with a passion, so precious to me that I would only use for special occasions. Has literally turned into weak watered down s*it. It sucks in both longevity and sillage.
Over and done with Amerige Givenchy for good 👎

A reminiscence of the past.
For people grown up in the 90s, this will definitely feel like a nostalgic smell. Very familiar, very popular, unforgettable.
Newer generations will not understand nor try to understand it, as it does not have the synthetic smell of sweetness.
It opens with a bouquet of flowers (not a cheap one) and then settles smothly.
Tuberose goes among all flowers, but very gently and not harsh.
The smell is not old, but vintage and vintage in the good way. If you skip the 5-10 minutes opening then it turns into a really nice blend.
It is a nostalgia in a bottle and definitely considering buying it for my wife.

After sampling it in-store right after a cold, I made a mistake ordering it because my nose was not working well. The honeyed floral lotion-y smell took hold of me. It turns out it gives a nasty headache. Tried twice. And today just thought to experiment again with a single spray on my stomach under my t-shirt and opening the windows in a last-ditch attempt to wear it. Not sure that is going to work because there is still some chemical that affects me and not sure it's worth overriding that sign from nature.

😍 The sillage this gives off smells like it's from a completely different planet.

Great huge tuberose opening, but transforms into a floral dove soap in 2 minutes

Sharp white and yellow florals. It has the bitterness of a vintage fragrance.

Amarige is old school perfumery. French, classic, chic, big, bold bouquet of flowers and basket of fruits, three types of woods, tonka beans, vanilla and amber. It’s really a lot of notes and accords mixed in but Dominic Ropion never fails to create magic!

As probably everyone knows by now, Amarige is at first and foremost a strong blend of tuberose and mimosa. Two of my most favourite flowers. There’s supporting floral notes consisting of gardenia, jasmine, ylang ylang, orange blossoms, rose, neroli, carnation, black locust, violet and orchid! This composition makes Amarige the scent with the biggest variety of flowers ever created! Possibly, it’s not a checked fact…

There’s a bunch of fruits mixed at all levels. We have mandarin orange, plums, peach, blackcurrant, red berries and a cassis leaves note. At the base level we have a classic mix of vanilla, tonka beans, amber, musk, cedar, sandalwood and Brazilian rosewood!

It’s a lot of various notes thrown in but it’s working well. Somehow all those flowers and all those fruits are softened up by a creamy vanilla and the trio of woods!

Like many other scents of the 90’s, Amarige is undeniably unique. Complex. Strong. Elegant. Seductive. Loud. But very recognisable as far as scent goes. This, Champs Elysees, Samsara, Tresor, Angel, Chanel No5, Poeme, are perfumes that made history!

Keep in mind that Amarige is not your typical spring-summer scent. Better said, it will work during spring and fall. This is a beast of white flowers and yellow flowers combined with tons of sweet fruits. This is not a warm, hot and humid day type of scent. It will choke you out.

As expected with older releases, can be found these days during sales for the same price like a Billie Eilish scent. So, so affordable for what it is and how it performs! But this is not for the 20 something years old people, it’s a fully grown up scent. I would say thirty and above..

It’s absolutely delightful!!

i had read about amarige and also smelled a bit in an empty mini bottle and was hooked. i knew i had to get some and found a small vintage bottle recently. it opens with a lot of tuberose, mimosa and gardenia. i also sense peach, ylang ylang, sandalwood, amber and vanilla. a peachy/ambery yellow/white floral. i have tried a lot of similar scents from the time period that this was released and i really like them, but this has immediately become one of my favorites. it is stunningly beautiful and intoxicating. the type of perfume that makes my eyes roll back in my head when i take a big whiff. <3 words can't really do this one justice for me-it just brings up a lot of imagery and feelings which is what the best perfume tends to do.

saramariah

My aunt used to wear this at every special occation and i remember not knowing it was her, just smelling this beautiful scent at family gatherings and getting this festive feeling. It smelled grown up, feminine and comforting.
I would love to own a bottle and revisit this scent🥰

Aeternitas

For one, I love Amarige in its own right.
But Amarige is also sentimental for me because it was my late grandmother's choice for special occasions. She was a modest and humble woman, a teacher and charity worker, and the epitome of a dutiful family woman. What could be more suitable for her than a sweet and realistic bouquet of radiant florals?
I will always keep a bottle in my grandma's honor.

Aside from the memories, I just plain love it... perfect for spring and summer. It's quite literally like walking in a garden where all the flowers are at their peak. The fruits and base notes are there to add some support and warmth for this floral orchestra. On my skin it has a honey undertone to it, and I am not picking up "powdery" at all. If anything, more like a very high quality soap - but not powder.

It's so realistic that I find it hard to believe people call this "old lady". I get that it's an early 90's creation, and yeah, older people have worn it, but... it just smells like flowers! Classic and still very wearable, imo.

Australienne

This is a happy sunny fragrance. It reminds me Lust for Sun by Juliette Has a Gun, just more prominent.

anaesthesiaangel

classy, but smells like an old lady’s handbag to me, or something my Grandma would wear for a special occasion

yara.xo

vintage and elegant, smells of a ylang incense i have. really enjoy this.

MichelleSouza

I have smelled the bottle at a friend's house and remember it being sweet, now when I bought a new bottle recently I got a strong green tuberose, will try to layer it with a sweet perfume to soften it. Love the longevity and how opulent it is, so for me it's a great layering floral perfume. I love florals so when I feel that a perfume needs stronger performance or an added floral note, will certainly use this one.

neşeyusubova

This perfume is very different vintage and modern. Yes, it smells of dusty powder at first opening. But as time passes, the smell of yellow and white flowers spreads around. I love white flowers. The Longevity and sillage are great. God, I somehow fall in love with perfumes designed by the expert perfumer Ropion.

Happiness_in_a_Bottle

Very feminine. You can feel that it was created by the hand of a master. This does not feel to me like a dated perfume, from the beginning of the 90's. I can't distinguish the white florals. I rather smell the yellow ones. t is warm, elegant and long lasting. Took a shower and I still could smell it. This a perfect example of a timeless perfume.

Cogniaux

Big and in your face white floral. Literally my bread and butter. I love this so much. High quality and has maximum projection and lasting power. If only all perfumes could be this powerful!

Miloshy

If you like lancome poeme, you will love this too. It's less heavy than Poeme, but same type of fragrance.

Diamandis

Beautiful Jasmine Sambac.

This is a really beautiful scent. Initially, I was nervous because I was picking up baby powder/dirty diaper??? Idk very strange but that was only for a few seconds and then I started to pick up on the floral and woody scents. Personally, this perfume feels like something I would wear in the spring and summer months. I picked up on the florals most strongly and typically I think of florals in warmer seasons. No matter when you wear it, it has fabulous longevity and sillage and for the price, this is a really great buy. I definitely want to buy a bottle for when it gets warmer.

wondervalley666

Blind bought this, figuring it would be an awful reformulation that’s unwearable or very much not my style at all… but holy crap, this is gorgeous! I love white flowers. I love carnal flower. But I never was too into other Ropion frags I tried. This is beautiful. It still smells high quality and expertly blended. A big beautiful bouquet of flowers. I honestly don’t think it smells old. My mother never wore perfume, i have no memories of old ladies wearing this. I know I’ve smelled it before but never associated it with any age or type of woman.

It’s going right in my “classy” white flower collection. I do wish the cap were a bit better, mine doesn’t seem to stay on very tight and is a bit awkward.

A must for tuberose lovers! I sprayed it along side a few other tuberose frags I was sampling, and didn’t label them. It took me a good minute of my brain searching through my realistic white floral lily/tuberose centered collection to figure out which one this was. It’s unique enough to own it even if you have some of the more popular others. The florals in this aren’t drowned out by the million other notes, nor do they turn the florals into a completely different scent. Some of my fav white floral / tuberose scents currently are White Peacock Lily by DS & Durga, Lys 41, Flora Carnivora by Henry Rose, Patio Botanicae, Gucci Bloom Profumo do Fiori, and Carnal Flower. This isn’t quite like any of those, there’s a strong yellow flower vibe to Amarige, but it dries down to a very classic gorgeous tuberose. I feel like it’s a cousin to scents in those families.

I do remember smelling this a few times this in the past. I kind of remember it being a bit stronger, sharper, and louder back in the day. I don’t find the current formulation to be sharp at all, it’s quite smooth, and even when I spray heavily it never gets suffocating or fills the room. It seems the current reformulation has had the sharp edges smoothed out and projects about as loud and long as the other white florals I mentioned. I do need to spray a bit heavier and reapply once or twice in colder weather when I’m wearing heavy clothing, but once I get a scent bubble going, it lasts longer. On paper and some clothing, this will last for days. I could smell the test strip just waking by it the next day. I don’t believe the newest formulations are so strong though that two sprays will project across the house for 24 hrs, unless maybe you’re very sensitive to white floral scents.

UnearthlyApothecary

I adore this perfume and the vintages are still fairly cheap at a time when online resellers have lost their minds and are charging exorbitant amounts for these bottles they picked up at yard sales for a few bucks. Guerlain Champs Elysees and Lancome Poeme are through the roof. That’s ok because my favorite big beautiful everything but the kitchen sink 90s yellow floral is Amarige. I can’t imagine anyone not falling in love after one whiff. I get primarily Ylang and mimosa with underlying bubble gum tuberose, some fruit and the absolute best musk I have ever smelled. It’s the sexiest musk I’ve smelled in a perfume and I would do anything to have a little bottle of it. That’s actually what makes Amarige stand out among the other big yellow floral bouquets. That delicious musk. Amarige will fill a room and last for days. It’s fantastic stuff and they just don’t make them like this anymore.

I love all perfumes by Givenchy. They are a master house at creating rich, evocative blends. I love wearing this scent in the winter, with it's plummy fruitiness. Def. an original, one of a kind perfume. I used to wear a lot of Ysatis, but have switched to Amirage because it's fruitiness is very uplifting to me during the long winter months. It is one of the only perfumes that I can smell when I wake up in the morning from the two sprays I apply before bedtime. It blends well with my body chemistry and always amazes with the notes it plays to my nose when I move around with it on. It is always showing me a different side of itself that way. Love this one and I think I have an old formulation as I got it at value village and those donations they get of slightly used perfumes always come from someone who bought the original formulation.

Sunshine in a bottle. :) 🌞🌻🌼🍀
This perfume reminds me the most of Poeme by Lancome.
It's a little bit soapy, little bit powdery, little bit sweet. Mostly I get the "yellow flowers" such as mimosa, one of my favorites in perfumes, ylang-ylang and tuberose that's just absolutely delicious there. :)
The scent is slightly green and fresh. I get something like peach and violet, too.
Very nice longevity and sillage for EdT.
Im wearing this today as to celebrate the winter sunshine that finally came after long days spent in greyness, dark afternoons and snow. This is going to really shine through in spring&summer. :)

BambiOsho

I haven't tried this in a while, but on a quest to replace my beloved (discontinued) Poeme, I revisited it.

I don't know if my nose has changed, or my body chemistry, or it's been reformulated, but it's not the powder show I remember from years ago.

I put it on about two hours ago and got the plummy jam and jasmine, but now I'm getting a beautifully mysterious symphony of dark berries and flowers that's starting to reveal a dignified sandalwood. The drydown has a bit of the Poeme olfactory twilighty woodsy hug I used to love.

I love that this seems to oscillate between spicy and flowery. I'm not getting the "old lady" vibe some people are complaining about but I'm just not ageist - I like what I like, unabashedly.

It's really beautiful! It's cool here now in the PNW, I'm not sure how it'll do in hot weather, but it's definitely something I'm going to be wearing a lot for the next few months.

FlowerSeeker

Jammy fruit, honey, and a bouquet of the sweetest juicy flowers from the garden. I imagine a combination of vintage Beautiful, Lauren, and Giorgio perfumes would smell like this. Parts of it sit delectably on my skin. Other parts come off as bitter or savory. The longer it sits, the more I like it.

chimidoro

I'll never get over this one. All the love in the world for this.

Tonight I have found myself making comparisons with POISON (and even TENDRE POISON).

Just magical.
Really.
We have previous. We were once known well to one another.

I have found that when I looked too far into it, scrutinized, pondered over the composition / notes a touch too much, it seemed to lose some of its magic.
But again I return with my once youthful mind,
blinded by love.
Love is blind.

Auditor

I know it's very well liked, so my opinion is uncommon, but Givenchy Amarige. I had seem such wonderful reviews about it time and time again, and went to test some at my local House of Fraser's out of curiosity.

It was the worst thing that had ever been on my skin. I got no flowers. No sweetness. But horripilatingly pungent, pure urine. It smelled like I had walked into a public toilet that hadn't been cleaned in years. One sniff caused a lump to rise in my throat, and my stomach to turn, I almost gagged. Both on the paper, and on my skin. It was simply repulsive! I had never rushed so quickly to scrub something off, and even afterwards, I REEKED.

I had bought a 2ml sample of Susan from Al Rehab before testing Amarige, as it is supposed to be a dupe, and the exact same thing occurred. It was less offensive than the real thing, but there was still a strong smell of excretion. My aunt wrinkled her nose at it as well.

I'm sorry to those who enjoy Amarige, but for me, it was nothing short of grim. It was pants. It really was.

evavidal62

Amarige is a beautiful fruity floral scent. Don't let the affordable price fool you. This does not smell cheap and how could it be when it's GIVENCHY! This is fruity summery scent opening up with a juicy peach. It's syrupy with maybe a touch of apricot and a little citrus. The fruitiness is not like the fruit notes in today's perfumes. This is definitely a strong 90's fruity floral. It just means it's even more delicious. Apply lightly because this stuff packs a big punch. The sweet fruit then leads to the florals. To my nose this is mostly ylang ylang and mimosa. This is a bright 'gold-yellow' and white floral. The jasmine tuberose gardenia trio is there but not coming through as a big white floral. The one white flower note that stands out is the buttery creamy tuberose. The carnation is also there. Sweet florals and somehow oily or sticky in a good way. The smell gets straight to your head. Sweet and feminine very beautiful. You have to be into florals to get this fragrance. The dry down is part musk and mostly sandalwood. It's a warm smoky dry down. The perfume lasts all day long. The sillage is fantastic. Everyone can smell it on you and I get no complaints. To me this perfume is happy, romantic, luxurious.

Deliza1997

It’s a very old school scent and young people may find it very unwearable but It's a piece of time capsule for me. It smell nice, dated but nice. I still have my mom's old bottle, still some juice is left at the bottom. Whenever I sniff the bottle it brings me back to my childhood.

Mona708

I was fortunate to be able to try out both a newer and an older, possibly vintage, formulation of this fragrance. The newer one puts me in mind of a brighter, less sticky version of 273 Rodeo Drive minus the graham cracker-esque dry down. The older one has this wonderful slightly sweet resinous accord that I also noticed in Rumeur and Amarige d’Amour. Both versions are fairly strong and could very easily become cloying in warmer weather or if oversprayed. If I had to choose a favorite between the two, the older one would win, although I love the newer one too.

bonniexoxo

A complex but clean, beautiful scent. It's a classic dated one, very nostalgic as it's my mothers signature. It's super versatile as it can be worn formally and informally for almost any season. The bottle is very nice and the scent is refreshing.

MadameMerola

This is a perfume that makes me feel youthful and bright when I put it on. I love everything about it - the classy bottle, the uplifting and attractive scent that hits you immediately, even the colour of the perfume matched perfectly with how it makes me feel.

It is an extremely well blended perfume that smells great from top notes to base notes. I picked up on the mimosa notes immediately now that I am getting more familiar with how it shows up in perfumes. I don’t think the sillage is big with the newer formulation but I am certain if I use more than 5 sprays, it would be bigger.

If you love pretty florals mixed with fruits, this is a very safe choice to blind buy. I will definitely buy it again. I can wear it on its own and also blended with another fragrance to make it even more delightful. It’s a love for me and it performs well in the heat of Nigeria 🇳🇬.

Chevelle Loves Scents

I love this fragrance. It reminds me of Avon's pink version Skin So Soft lotion. This fragrance is a soft floral fragrance. This may be my new bedtime fragrance.

Perfect10Tara

Beautiful! Stunning! Huge! Glorious! I wore and wore and wore and wore this for years. Absolutely fell in love with Amarige and it was my signature fragrance for a long period of time. It's big, it's bright, it's rich and floral, but somehow mature flowers, with every note on show. Just stunning with a sharp freshness that cuts through it all. The balance is perfect, not cloying at all despite its power. Sheer heaven. My boss at the time said she knew when I was in early because she'd get a whiff of my beautiful perfume when she arrived. I picked up a bottle a few years ago and enjoyed it all over again. One of my colleagues (who I always thought was about my age!) said it reminded her of her mother, who loved it. I definitely think this is a classic. I'm so glad I had a love affair with this beautiful scent.

francesco_grieco

Amarige by Givenchy is a graceful and stylish fragrance that, to me, echoes the intricate beauty of French wall moldings. It's as if a delicate white-on-white composition of floral garlands and fruits has been expertly crafted into an olfactory delight. In this fragrance, the harmonious interplay of flowers, fruits, woods, and vanilla carries a distinct signature, maintaining an airy quality without becoming overly gourmand.

Michylaka

Holy beautiful! I cannot believe I never took the plunge and skin tested this lovely lady. It is hard to pinpoint all her notes. I definitely detect the heavy Tuberrose. Then there is that lively Mimosa. The Gardenia is there too with a delightful creaminess. Then there is a woody vibe on the drydown I believe to be the Ylang-ylang and Sandalwood. I also get hints of Rosewood. I believe this to be the most beautiful mixed floral I have ever worn. Gabrielle Essence seems to attempt to replicate this. But....Nada. I spritzed her on at the department store and was sold. I felt luxurious and womanly for hours. I went to online consignment and picked up a vintage. The sillage and longevity are astounding in this vintage I bought. Moreso than the modern formulation I first tested. Regardless of the formulation this lovely is perfectly balanced and perfectly stunning. If you are looking for a nineties style floral that will knock you (and everyone around you) out of your socks, this would be it. Try it!

HoneysuckleKiss

Amarige is so happy and bright smelling and is like a golden white and yellow floral syrup of goodness to my nose! It's almost as if butterflies and flowers are about to burst out of the bottle when you take off the cap and spray it. Oh so very flirty and very girly in the best possible way :)

It is mainly about the tuberose, the fruit notes, the mimosa, the gardenia and the ylang ylang in this to me, over a bed of creamy sandalwood and rosewood. I get the fruit and berries too. Amarige was the perfume that got me into white florals and tuberose when I first got it as a teenager back in 1997 when I first bought it with my own money. Nothing is as nostalgic smelling as this perfume to me and it makes me think of my high school in Lincoln where most of the female teachers and students would where it... oh the 1990s!

You only need one spray on each pulse point and this beauty just lasts and lasts like a beast, as many of our perfumes did back in the 1990s. Such amazing sillage too. You need confidence to wear this, since it will announce your arrival as soon as you enter the room!

5 stars from me :)

nisarsarah9

This is such a warm, floral scent. Best to wear it in winter and spring season. It lasts an eternity and is a creamy beautiful blend. Absolutely love this one!

Forda

This is a very rich fruity-floral cloud. When you walk in it, it seems that you are sowing nanoparticles of plant juices everywhere, they swirl and run ahead of you, and everyone around breathes only sprayed fresh, sour, sweet, tart, astringent, transparent juices. This is how lovers feel the world, and these spirits help create an atmosphere of love and mutual understanding in any stone bag.

Stephanie C.U

The white floral and powdery accords are a bit too overwhelming. It’s the kind of perfume that evokes memories you don’t even remember having. It really does takes me back to how an older person’s vanity table smelt when I was younger.

The dry down smells quite like Tony Montana powder which I find off-putting

It has a good sillage and a few spritz would go a long way. I’m generally not the biggest fan of florals so I won’t be repurchasing. I think it takes a certain kind of maturity to pull off this fragrance

cinaeco

My holy grail if-I-could-only-have-1-smell-for-the-rest-of-my-life perfume!

selinacat

I've been exploring this for a while, falling in love deeper and deeper. If you love cherry, you should pay attention to red berries. The red berries in the middle are glorious! It's gentle, sweet fruity floral but not beastly. This is pre-gourmand Ropion assumptions need not apply. This...is...UNIQUE. it's not niche-esk, & has the approachability you'd expect but it's so complex & original if she was at a party the Byredos & 4160 Tuesdays would want her to sit with them. In my vintage journey, this and Poeme have been truly delightful finds.

galacticcrone

This is my mother's signature scent at the one I compare most perfumes to whenever I try them on. It smells like my mom, very middle of the road scent-- not re-inventing the wheel or anything. It's strong as HECK though, sillage is potent and lasts a long time. When my mom sprays this to put it on, it coats everything. I do like it though, nice scent on the nose.

fragrancetravel

This is my moms signature scent and it evokes so many memories of her emerging from the bathroom drowned in its aroma. She would use the gift set of the same scent she got every Christmas from my dad - shower gel, then lotion, and then the perfume. It smelled so feminine and sophisticated on her, an established career woman type of smell. When I would try it on, and even when I try it on now, it smells horrid. Too heady, too strong, too floral. However, when she wore it I remember it having a powdery warmth. I have a bottle that I smell on occasion for nostalgic reasons.

joikgirl

Givenchy is really becoming my favourite fragrance house. I was testing out different Givenchy perfumes when I saw this and you know, this has a real vintage look to it. I have never been more surprised before. White floral heaven, my favourite, with a sweet undertone. It not some girly fragrance, but more mature and elegant but still suitable for even younger females. Definitely getting this one.

herculano

Glad to see Amarige getting the love it truly deserves.

I wanted to let people know that the bottle is meant to evoke a different era, that of the 30’s and 40s.

Even the font used (on the original bottle from the 90s, which is just slightly different from the new bottle in the above picture) is old fashioned and meant to evoke a more romantic and iconic time.

This came out when old style jazz was making a huge comeback. Jazz tunes of old were being used in the soundtracks of many movies in that time. My father was a jazz musician and he was having a true revival in the 90s, playing all over the SF Bay Area, at venues such as Yoshis.

We were all romanticizing the past … particularly the 30s, 40s, and 60s, in those times.

I’ve always loved the bottle design, personally.

WhiteFlowerPrincess

This is a perfume that I have come back to again and again and I had to acclimatize my nose to it again, but Amarige is really quite lovely and ultra feminine. So iconic and unmistakable, too. I have always loved it since my mom used to wear this back in the mid to late 1990's, along with Organza. I remember even stealing both perfumes from her from time to time to wear as a little girl! Such memories 🥰

Amarige makes me super happy when I smell it and it makes me think of both sunshine and the spring. It must be the ylang ylang and mimosa giving it that yellow floral burst of happiness! This perfume is equally white floral too and I can smell the bright orange blossom, creamy gardenia, sexy tuberose, indolic jasmine and very luscious and sweet black locust. For me, the black locust and the tuberose are really the stars here.

The Brazilian Rosewood and the peach, plum, berries and violet are also prominent in this fragrance but never make the white and yellow florals take a back seat. It's very juicy, lush and sweet from the fruit and the rosewood gives it some character. The violet and the musk in this gives it that old world powderiness that is very nostalgic and pleasant smelling.

I can smell the soft sandalwood in the background too but this isn't an overly woody perfume. It kind of smells like Amarige could be a white flower tree like a black locust tree that's heavy in beautiful white black locust flowers that are heavy in pollen and the bees are pollinating it and making honey from it. The tree is ripe as are the flowers and fruit nearby it. A beautiful young woman in a long diaphanous white wedding gown and cathedral length veil marries a handsome man under the tree. She throws her big white bouquet at the end of the wedding towards the women at the reception and jumps onto a horse with her husband, the horse galloping off into the sunset with the newlyweds riding it. Amarige is very bridal smelling, as its anagram of the French word "mariage" meaning "marriage" would have one believe.

I got 10 hours of wear of this perfume on me and it had a sillage of 6 feet. Everyone that has passed by me have said that I smell incredible while wearing this and they always ask me what I'm wearing. A nurse at a hospital even thanked me when I sprayed it on!

I love the bottle for this perfume too and I think it is just as beautiful as the liquid inside. I love the bright golden color of the perfume, the beautiful curves of the bottle and the lovely see-through white glass cap that looks like a ruffle of white chiffon or some other similar material.

Luca Turin was for sure wrong when he said that this perfume was bad and shouldn't be worn near anyone. Nothing could be further from the truth!

Amarige for sure is a juicy, syrupy and honeyed white and yellow flower concotion for the eternal goddess in all of us. White and yellow floral lovers, this is for you!

TheFl0rist

Sandalwood overload. Turned sour on my skin!

I'm a tuberose lover. But this one didn't suit me!

Ropion wins my heart yet again. While his stuff is very "trendy", this is why he is my favourite nose. I love hyacinth. However, all the scents with it as a note have never captured what that scent is to me. Blue Hyacinth from North America has always smelled totally unique and sweet. It is a burst of fresh bright juicy floral to tell the bees, "come and get it now cause it ain't gonna be here long".

I have a lot of the classic hyacinth scents, they all pull very powdery. Must be more how traditional perfumery uses it, vs. My personal take. But this, smells like MY hyacinth! I have a 1991 mini, I want to try the current formula, if you like sweet hyacinth, YOU MUST GET THIS.

Lotte_Liese

I will confess, the opening was disappointing and I almost gave up on it, but upon development, I understood why this fragrance has a following.
I will share the notes I can pick up: brazilian rosewood (I'm acquainted with this because of an Elizabeth Arden fragrance I'll insert when I remember it), mimosa (so lovely and darling), ylang ylang + sandalwood (the combined effect is very powdery), unmistakable spicy carnation and orange blossoms.
So elegant, so lovely, so opulent.

Mdk

I'm surprised that this perfume has received so many mixed reviews.
I got a vintage miniature and am totally in love!
Sweet and happy white flower syrup. Just smelling it makes me feel happy. A very beautiful, large bouquet of tuberose.
But perhaps if I had gotten a full bottle of this, my impression might have been different.
I have a miniature one, so like a classic parfum, I only apply a tiny amount that touches my finger from the top of the bottle.
Even though it's an eau de toilette, a small amount is enough to smell, so if it was a full bottle spray bottle, the scent would probably be too loud.
If you find the Amarige to be too loud, I would suggest transferring it to a flacon type bottle or to a smaller spray volume atomizer.

perfumelovere

This one holds a special place in my heart since my Mom wore it when I was growing up. She was good about only spraying a couple squirts so she didn't overpower a room. While I am immediately put off by most tuberose perfumes, this one like others of its era were nuanced and complex with many notes which gave it more depth than like MJ turberose scents of today.

jswenson

I really do not understand why this gets so much hate. I own a bottle from 1991, the year it was released. The only note that I can pick out is tuberose. This is a very sweet, warm and playful tuberose bomb. It doesn't take itself to seriously, and that's what I love about it. It carelessly flutters around the room, filling everybodys senses with its flowery sweet aroma. This perfume works for every season spring, summer, and fall. I wore this perfume on my first ever date, because I think it smells enticing.

j.andresminor

My mother has it but from a gift from the 90s, she cant stand it, doesnt like it at all, for me it smell like floral bananas, the problem of the original version might be it has a suffocating smell, my mother loves red door, tresor, la vie est belle, escada, olympea some of yellow floral classic scents and some honey-ish and most of old elegant ladies (which i find them mostly cloying also) but Amarige is a hate for Her, many ingredients sometimes doesnt work particulary here, for Her, but everyone has noses for similar tapes of scents and there will be one that doesnt fit on your collection, anyway it is a complex particular iconic fragrance

Mellyhelly

I love, love, love Amarige!
This was my signature when I was in my early 20s. Grandma? No. My grandmother was clean and smelled good, but she didn't smell like Amarige.
I'm sure I wrote before about my love Amarige.
There was a magic between us. I wore it day and night and I got a lot of compliments. Even if I didn't, it would make no difference. I also grabbed a couple of critics, but I probably went with heavy hand that day.
Worn in small amounts, just two sprays, it made wonders on me.
Of course, it's a very complex fragrance and so full of nuances, it's warm and fresh, deep and luminous.
On me gardenia and gentle true sandalwood popped out.
I think it really bloomed on my young skin in springtime.
Powerhouse perfumes are recommended for wearing in cold weather, but many floral powerhouses give their best in spring with lukewarm climate.
After a few years I stopped wearing it. I think that the magic broke up. I blamed my own curiosity and fickleness, but now... many years later I think that reformulations broke it.
Amarige has gone through many reformulations. The first biggest one I believe killed the sandalwood.
What Amarige can you have without that luscious sandalwood?
It was Floral-Woody and it became Floral-Musky. Not the same anymore, but still good. The box went from full border in colours to half vertical border in colours.
I still kept Amarige in my collection. Other formulations gradually killed it. It became more and more musty and still beautiful!
The last reformulation is due to the removal of Lylial. The box is now red with only a thin gold border.
For some time I've seen both boxes in shops.
I tried the new version and I almost didn't recognize my Amarige. It's not bad but much simpler, more blended, more modern and at the same time more flat, but it's a nice perfume, just not magic.
Amarige was a powerhouse and very daring. It smelled like the sun in your face and it was a masterpiece.
When you touch a masterpiece you broke a hardly found perfect balance. The formula leaks on different points.
It's not like working on a drugstore bathgel.
Now when I read what I suspect Gen-X reviews and some YT "influencer" just out of kindergarten talking about grandma's poo, it makes me a bit sad. For them. For sure they are not smelling the first original Amarige.
Many reviews stemmed out of these videos. It seems like let's attack something.
How do I attack a perfume in these sad '20s? It's OLD. Old as an insult.
Ok, keep your expensive gummy glycemic tuberose if your mom is rich or stick to those sickening wannabe-L'Interdit-but-I-can't if you don't find yourself in silks.
BTW poo/toilet is the indolic side of white flowers. When well done, is pure bliss and you won't even smell the toilet.

Amouage? Grandma's garbage bin? Sure, if your grandma is Eva Herzigova in satin (in the daytime), has never baked a cake in her life (no vanilla gourmand for this bitch), and gifts you a solo trip to Paris for Christmas. She might wear sunglasses indoors sometimes, but she's got a wink and a smile reserved for you and she's going to be having fun until the day she dies. Long live grandma.

Just wanted to share that I completely lucked out when I bought a large vintage of Amarige on eBay.

Sometimes, you find a great seller who is selling a total treasure for a fantastic price.

I didn’t expect the bottle I ordered to be so impeccably preserved.

It’s the first formulation, and it’s been kept in its box for nearly the entire 30 years!

What was amazing was smelling it next to my other vintage (which I did NOT keep in a box).

My other vintage is a much deeper, even..syrupy…deep golden yellow, obviously concentrated from slow evaporation over decades. It’s also MUCH stronger (like, a pure parfum) than the one I received in its box, also due to evaporation/concentration, and I didn’t even realize until I smelled the “new” bottle that my old vintage, though still gorgeous, has a distinctly stale aged smell to it.

The new vintage is also beautiful but so much fresher, and less syrupy.

I actually like the aged slightly “stale” juice just as much as I like the better preserved juice. But I was running low, which is why I searched for another vintage.

Just something to think about…

To those who hate this, you won’t understand the magic unless to spray this on yourself lightly, on skin, and then let it dry down. NEVER put your nose straight into your wrist (or skin where you sprayed). At least not for the 30 minutes.

You don’t need to! It envelopes around you, within a few minutes you’ll smell it in the air… around you. That’s exactly what it was made to do. That’s REAL silage.

Perfumes like this smell drop dead GORGEOUS in the air. But you’ll completely miss out on the beauty of you stuff it right up your nose. Of course! It will be far too harsh, smelling it that way.

These perfumes were made for the SILAGE. They were made to leave a trail.
They were made to project. Unlike perfumes today.

Todays perfumes don’t project or last. You blow through a bottle very quickly just to catch faint whiffs for maybe an hour!

But older perfumes like Amarige weren’t meant to be skin scents that only you can smell.

This means they will come off as impossibly harsh if you put your face into them.

After a couple hours, you can then enjoy smelling it directly on your skin, up close. But it takes time.

I am a chronic over sprayer, but this one should NEVER be over-sprayed. It can be offensive, for sure. It’s the absolute wrong way to wear this perfume.

You could seriously get through the day with one or two big sprays, walkthrough, and you will smell beautiful for 10 hours. At least with the vintage formulation.

If you don’t yet understand the beauty of Amarige, and you WANT to, try it the way I described.

Believe me, you will get compliments on this one if you don’t overdo it. Every time I wear this I get compliments. I actually do three sprays but I don’t leave the house for over an hour afterward.

It’s a fresh, creamy, deep, sexy, totally feminine, and happy perfume. Slightly tropical, as well.

I usually have a hard time with carnation but I’ve recently come to love carnation in this one, AND in Bob Mackie. Carnation done right is gorgeous!

bleuetfane

Unless you’re an Eastern European grandma with a bleach and heat damage updo, Nina Foch in An American In Paris, or over the age of 50, I can’t imagine you’d be able to pull this scent off. Overbearing, ever-present and impossible to get rid of. Old fashioned in a way a full wall unit furniture is. Unless you want to smell like you’re a time traveler from beyond the Iron Curtain, I’d advise to stay clear. Some things are better left in the past.

dadparty69

oh god.... I tried this scent today and on the tester paper it was absolutely lovely, a gorgeous full bodied floral, sweet and strong. when applied to my skin it turned COMPLETELY different. VERY animalic, lost all floral or sweet notes and was quickly replaced with a very pungent almost dirty scent. I wasn't wearing any other perfumes for it to mix with, I guess this frag just does not sit right on my skin 🤢

lavender0

This will always be my absolute favourite scent. It’s beautiful and probably the reason I’m drawn to white florals. It’s very happy and festive, while also elegant. It’s on the cheaper side of perfumes, being an EDT, but to me it smells truly luxurious and it’s my go-to scent to commemorate important events.
I believe it’s more of a spring scent and very feminine, and while the notes pyramid can seem discouraging, I feel it’s really well blended and quite airy from the neroli and ylang-ylang, which bring some freshness to it.

Atomikbomb_

My mom owns this, but never wears it, so I've had 0 experience with it until today. As I've read about this over the years I've always expected some sort of glaringly, obviously outdated bouquet of "grandma" flowers.

The first thing I noticed was the peach accord, which is not jammy at all, nor artificially fruity as peach can run in modern fragrances. It's natural and fresh, and I think that alongside whatever other fruit molecules with the "plum" sweeten the experience and make this more than just a flower party.

Well, it's certainly floral, but it isn't hard to take whatsoever. I'm actually consistently surprised by the things people complain about, and I actually think that this is elegant, tasteful and lovely!

As I said, it's floral, but it's balanced. I definitely smell more tuberose than anything (tuberose is so distinct though), bit I also get lots of jasmine (smells like real jasmine absolute), but this is so varied it's almost hard to understand it in one wearing. It's a malange of stuff, but manages not to smell nearly as busy or aggressive as I anticipated.
I will say, it's a warm floral and smells sunny, which probably is mimosa with ylang ylang in all honesty, but I can't pick them out well individually. It's very yellow in tone...when you close your eyes and inhale it smells ✨️yellow✨️.

The sandalwood is actually noticeable in this, and there's something about the quality of the tone of it that sings really well alongside the warmth of the florals. This might not be best worn in summer, but it smells *like* late afternoons in summer.

Enrium

Amarige is a notoriously intense floriental, defined by its bold tuberose note. It is fruity, syrupy and tropical - Givenchy's answer to Poison or Poême. It is not as good as the former, but is much better than Lancôme's dismal offering. I don't typically enjoy this kitchen-sink-y 1980s-style perfume, but Amarige isn't the worst. I have a vintage miniature from the 1990s, and a little goes a long way.

Amarige is tuberose-dominant from initial spray, slightly green initially and complemented by sweet, fruity notes. Peach is most evident, appearing alongside jammy plum. There is a strong, sweet orange blossom note here too, tropical and syrupy, paving the way to the huge floral heart. The peach-orange accord, alongside the tuberose, defines this scent.

Other sweet florals emerge, notably powdery mimosa and creamy, tropical ylang ylang. Clean, powdery jasmine rounds it out. I get soft clove-like spice thanks to the carnation note, and a hint of tart blackcurrant. The florals become increasingly powdery, a nice progression from the syrupy opening.

A sweet amber-vanilla accord dominates the drydown, complemented by soft woody notes and a generous helping of tonka bean. It remains bold and sweet, with peachy tuberose lingering until final fade. It fades to a sweetly musky skin scent eventually. Sillage is enormous and longevity is long-lasting. Best applied (sparingly!) during autumn/winter.

An extroverted time capsule, Amarige is boldly feminine, sweet and intense yet competently composed. Not my thing, but not bad. 3/5.

Thaolee

i have obsession for this scent since I was teenager, always remember how it made me feel so graceful and happy.
The creamy Ylang Ylang and the peach really outstanding make the scent so bright and shine. Perfect scent for the bride in her wedding.

An Sanan

Im_only_lurking

Made an account just to comment on this masterpiece. I'll try to keep it short, because I could babble about this for hours.

Screechy? Sure, if you overspray, as two sprays are more than enough. Outdated? No, but definitely a classic.

This is creamy florals dipped in honey, followed by the smoothest woods. To me this is sweet at first, but not cloying like a sugary gourmand. Soon it mellows out and oh my gosh does this change by the hour, it is mind blowing! Longevity and silage are so great, that I'm so disappointed at other perfumes in this price range, I never end up buying them because in this economy?! Puh-lease...

Mind you I'm not a trained nose, so I'll try to convey the emotions this brings. This is pure love, happiness and joy. This is a warm, welcoming, confident lady, at peace with herself, unafraid to showcase her soft yet powerful femininity.

ErinKenney

The perfect floral.

My cat just knocked over and spilled a pure parfum of this while I slept.
I then proceeded to DREAM ABOUT IT.

Once awake, I picked some of the spillage up on my wrists, so as not to let it ALL go to waste.
Looks like that's what I'm wearing today.
🙄🫣😩

Mmm buttery tuberose, creamy gardenia and dry cedar. 👌💕
What I really love about the extrait is that I don't smell the violet.
For me the violet always overpowered everything in the vintage EDT.

That bloody cat... 🫠🤣
Trying to laugh, feel like crying.

My beloved Amariiiiige! ✨😭✨

So many people have so much to say about this perfume; which should be a marker of something special! It’s a mildly controversial scent to whip out, some people think it’s a brave notion to make this your signature scent. I would much rather wear this than say, flowerbomb.

I like many others, have a really strong nostalgic connection to this scent. I’m in my mid twenties but have always had a really strong connection to the 90s and am the youngest of 7 kids, some now turning 40. My mother is turning 60 this year and is all I think about with this perfume. She was not heavy handed with her applications and always (always!) had florals stocked up. Her favorite right now is a pure jasmine scent she found in Hawaii which says a lot about her. She once got a sample of Amarige and it smelled fabulous on her. My mom and I share identical pheromones, scarily enough I smell her through everything I dirty. Is it weird to say that your shit smells the same as your mothers?

Anyways, her sweat and mine smell the same, so her logic was that it would also smell good on me if it smelled good on her. She let me wear it around 11 years old and I would then sneak spritzes while she wasn’t looking.

I had a rough patch during my teens around 13-14, I was sneaking out in the night chasing men older than me and getting suspending for drinking in math class…. Not a pleasant time for me or her. The catalyst for intervention was a night I got arrested, caught out late while she was out on a date, hanging out in Hollywood at Swingers Diner with a guy twice my age. Wearing this perfume of course, after I managed to steal another spritz, some red wine and a few Marlboro reds from her purse before I left our apartment…

I remember the Christmas after a long hard year of transitioning to high school, I was actually going to school, doing homework and not sneaking out. She gave me choices and support when I needed it, was by my side through psychosis and self harm. She had asked me the fall beforehand if I wanted anything for Christmas, one big gift is what she can afford. Under $100 would be ideal as she saved up but we were scraping by as always. She was in between jobs and miserable herself, dating was a nightmare as a beautiful single woman in her late 40s and she had kids who were mentally unwell to worry about.

I woke up and unwrapped Amarige as my one Christmas gift I had hoped for, and was happier than I had been for a while. This perfume has intense emotions for me, sadness, romance, nostalgia, love, hope. It mainly reminds me of my mother despite her never wearing it much. I went through the entire bottle by the end of high school and it taught me that beauty and love is ultimately for yourself to enjoy.

I would wear this morning noon and night, to bed and on special occasions. I was never ashamed of wearing a dated perfume, as the appeal to it was it’s mature, dated feel for me. I wore pantyhose every day and kitten heels, brick orange lipstick and pin curled my hair every night, I wanted to smell like an old Hollywood movie star!

In the end, I’m glad she encouraged me to indulge in my feminine side, to feel beautiful and confident when I needed it most. People underestimate the power a mother has on a daughter to overcome major obstacles with their self image, as though those issues can sometimes stem from the mother.

Despite all this, I hope when you finally wear this scent it can inspire some mystery, tragedy or sexuality for you too.

Amarige is a vintage vibe fragrance that I wouldn't mind wearing. Vintage in a good way, not outdated. I'm certain that I've smelt Amarige along with Kenzo Jungle L'Elephant on someone's mother during my childhood in the 90s so it brings comfort and happy memories.

I didn't see this perfume in our stores before so when I noticed it I've immediately grabbed it and tried since it was an EDT. I thought, if I didn't like it it will disappear soon. Well, I was wrong...

Projection, sillage and longevity are very strong considering that Amarige is EDT which was a surprise. I believe it can be worn throughout all seasons but I'd be careful during summer heat.

This is a complex fragrance with white flowers that bring elegance. Gardenia leaves that clean vibe and the mixture of fruits, vanilla and tonka give sweetness. None of these notes are dominant or overpowering. Not even jasmine that often becomes the most noticeable note on my skin.

I'm considering buying this perfume as I'm 30 years old even though this scent turns me into a child.

justjenny123

my mother has worn Amariage since its release in 91 and I've used it on a few occasions as a result. It's a very floral, gardenia-forward scent that -- perhaps because I always smelled it on my mom-- feels mature to me. A professional, not overwhelming, but very distinct scent. Warm and springy without feeling inappropriate in colder months. It lasts a considerable time for an EDT. It's not too sweet, though a little muskier than I prefer.

I always feel comforted when I smell it-- like my mom has just come home from a long shift. It's not a perfume I'd choose myself (it feels a little bit older than something I'd wear as someone in her mid 20s) but it's pleasant and familiar.

roxxyg

I have had a long relationship with Amarige and we even went our separate ways for awhile but it's still one I revisit for special occasions as she's glam and confidently complex. I dislike carnation smells but I do overlook the note in this blend.

imperfect-angel

I never understand animalic notes until I try Amarige.
It’s an animalic jasmine bomb! It has similar vibe to Alien which also created by Dominique Ropion.

Mayescent1

I wanted to like this fragrance as I smelled it on someone years ago and it was amazing on her, but I just can’t pull it off as to me it has a prominent gardenia note, and I just can’t do gardenia unless it blends in a way that my nose can’t really detect.

Frangipanilove

In theory, I should love this. I remember smelling this when it was first issued in the early 90s and passed. I love mimosa, however, and generally prefer complex, living scents so I decided now, 30 yrs on, to give it another go now that I am looking back to the era of more complex perfumery. Well, I still don’t like it. Some kind of clash with my body chemistry brings out a heavily emphasised chamomile slightly pee like facet which I really do not enjoy. I am also not fond of dry, woody bases so its a double pass. I’d like to smell this on someone whose body chemistry it agrees with to get a better idea on what its meant to be like on the right person. As for mimosa, I will be looking elsewhere.

Glynis49

I grew up in sunny South Africa and first smelt this in my local pharmacy just after I got married in 1990. There was something so sweet and addictive in the scent that I kept coming back to sample it over and over. Eventually I splashed out and purchased a bottle. I didn’t wear it for awhile because other perfume “fashions” overtook this beauty and the era. Today I found my vintage bottle from ‘91 and fell in love all over again. I think the mimosa brings back sweet memories of South Africa especially when I visit home and smell the fragrances I grew up with. Sweetness forever in my soul.

90's vibe, but not dated. Different from all the same sweet stuff of today. Love it 💜💜

Special occasion only! This smells so luxurious it requires a good opportunity to wear it.
I can imagine vintage beauty wearing creamy white fur coat and golden jewellry. It is winter and she applies this perfume right before going to a glamourous ball.
This fragrance is rich and creamy, the jasmine stands out which makes it super feminine.
Long time ago there was this Avon's Skin So Soft line and I've had the body balm that smelled very much alike. I enjoyed a lot the feeling of a luxurious lady:)
Now I always keep a little sample of Amarige in my drawer. Sometimes i like to spray it on my body and put a sweater on - feeling festive and fabulous all the way! Even without the special occasion:)

Aroma girl

I found out to my surprise that 5th Avenue by Elizabeth Arden has the same dry down as this fragrance. I have them.
I am talking about the OG
I am loving this for a cheapie. I am going to get back up tomorrow 😄💕💕💕💕

hazi

smells like grass / greenery but not that simple a perfume with sweetness in it smells clean floral and sophisticated

Beautiful_Scent

I remember this like it was yesterdsy. I was in a shop called Ma Damme in Bucharest. It was the mid 90s. Was looking at clothes and then I saw this perfume bottle with a gold juice on a shelf. I didn't have money to buy anything. Was a young student window shopping. But I sprayed this perfume on the back of my hand. I remember it was very cold, must have been winter. The perfume hit me straight away and it was love at first sniff. Put my gloves on and went home. The perfume was on my glove for over a week. I had to buy this and I did. I can still recognise this perfume whenever I smell it. It just brings back memories of a time when I was young and life was good and less stressful.

Mysticmiah1970

What can I say about amarige that hasn’t been said already. To me she’s a classic, beautiful, classy, romantic white floral that has captured my heart since it’s release in 1991 when I was 21 years old.The notes sounds really complex but are a lot more simpler due to how well blended it is but then Dominique Ropion is a master perfumer.I smell peach and orange blossom in the opening with tuberose jasmine gardenia and a light spice which could be the carnation I smell other florals but these stand out to my nose,I then get vanilla sandalwood and amber with some woodiness. This to me is a happy fragrance that is so smooth and creamy with a beautiful mix of florals. She’s timeless classy you do need to like florals to appreciate her though. This perfume has and always will have a special place in my heart and in my collection an understated masterpiece

CelinaPerfuma

I adore this perfume, but I never (since the first time) spray it directly on my skin. This is one I pump into the air and twirl naked through the scented cloud. Applied too liberally it is a rabid beast racing across the room to stick it's fingers up the nose of anyone who has dared to enter, like a vengeful nurse having a bad day and conducting thousands of Covid tests. Worn in moderation, it's like walking past a beautiful garden on a warm spring day.

Bright, slightly green, slighty soapy and a feel-good scent - this is something I will be wearing a lot more during the warmer months! This has an almost dryer-sheet quality about it in the beginning, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing! There is also a slight animalic tinge at first, but it does dissipate during the dry down. I’ve seen some people compare it to hairspray and I can see that as well. Once you get past the opening though it does settle into a smoother floral scent. Longevity is great for an EDT! Beats out a lot of modern EDP’s I’ve owned.

I imagine a beautiful woman with a sunny and carefree disposition wearing this as she strolls casually through town while sporting a flowy summer dress and large floppy sun hat, skin warmed gently by the sun’s rays while enjoying the moment and all that the world has to offer her. Really fantastic!

katieyaryes

The opening of it is very beautiful but the dry down turns into a kind of dirty generic jasmine, tuberose, and gardenia smell. Also very vintage smelling, which can be off putting for some. It's still nice, fresh cut flowers type of vibe. I would keep it if gifted but I'm not running to the store to buy it.

Writing another review for the fun of it!

For me, Amarige beats Coco hands down.
Bcoz Coco is a little tricky for me. I love it's opera quality but I cannot wear it on skin, only on clothes. Otherwise, the strong civet note will come out.

But Amarige, c'est parfait! I need to buy a backup bottle...

One of the first perfumes I owned during my college days. This beauty wowed me at first sniff. It smelled so elegant and classy, from what I remember. Looking here at the notes there's a lot of them, especially the white florals such as tuberose and jasmine. And seeing that Dominique Ropion is the nose behind this gem, it's no wonder Amarige has a gorgeous, rich scent.
I'm searching for a bottle now, since I miss this scent so much and want to revisit it.
I also recall that one should avoid overspraying, as it will lose its magic. Two short sprays is enough.
And it's a mature scent, definitely not for little girls who may not appreciate it.

TheNyx2003

I wanted to at least like this fragrence , but sadly it's not my cup of tea , i can't consider really good but there is note that smells sour / sharp on my skin and as a 19 y/o girl i don't see it proper for myself , don't get me wrong i don't hate it but don't like it eaither
But my mom really love it cause it's floral ( jasmine ) and the sillage is eternal and it's very very very long lasting

mika71

Gorgeous. To me it's not as complex as all the notes would suggest. A straightforward white floral. Very strong the first 15 min then it settles into a smooth, creamy jasmine and gardenia scent that lasts forever. Not overly indolic. Classic, beautiful, and very wearable if not oversprayed.

Laurus

I used to own a bottle of this and I go rid of it. I recently asked a sample of it just to remember it. I love the opening of it. However soon it turns quite soapy and sharp and it is just bit too much for me and this sharpness reminds me of 90s era perfumes like Tresor and Poeme. It is not bad but it is not somethng I could imagine using a whole bottle of so Im happy with the sample but it really is enough.

Ok...I fell quickly for this one!. A u-tuber raved about it..she got all mushy about it....I had to see what this perfume was all about. So tonight I went to a store to try it. As I struggled to recall and pronounce the name of the perfume that I wanted to try , the young sales clerk instantly knew what I was talking about and led me over to it . She said this is my mom's signature scent. She sprayed it on a card for me ...
I smelled it and was intrigued. Then it hit me and I was like oh my goodness! " could you please spray some on my wrist? ". She obliged willingly. She said no one wears this perfume anymore but it's so beautiful. She said if you wear this perfume you'll be the only woman in the city wearing it. As I was leaving to do some other shopping out of the corner of my eye I saw her grab a second scent strip and spray it. I thought to myself she's remembering her mom. I just thought that was so sweet. As I drove home ( an hour's drive) I sniffed my wrist a lot. As I continued to drive I began to understand the mystique of this perfume. Now I'm going to have to buy it . I need this perfume in my collection it is absolutely gorgeous! It is so feminine and there is something about it that just draws me in. I can't explain it. This is not my type of perfume at all I am more into either the freshies or the gourmands... I'm not sure what it is about this perfume that gets my heart but something is there. I think it's the florals at first ; but I also think it's the spiciness that I notice . It is a really beautiful fragrance.I'm going to purchase it . If you test it don't just spray it on paper...spray it on your wrist! Walk around the store for a while ....drive home... think about it. I'm serious. This is amazing it's just so womanly and beautiful and I never say stuff like that. I'm so glad I stepped out of my box and tried something different.

JennyNoBull

From the note breakdown I ought to like this. But I don’t. My best friend wore this in high school and on her it was nice, but I didn’t think it smelled great. It definitely wasn’t for me, but that’s ok… you don’t want your bestie stealing your signature scent! The entirety of this fragrance is screetchy and a smack in the face. I also dislike the use of ylang ylang here. It feels like an afternoon in the hot sun when all I want is a hat and some shade. For those who love it… all the power to you!

miewtje

I bought this today at the airport. It was right there. I had time to spare. I have this huge book at home containing the history of perfume. There is a chapter written about this fragrance so i went ahead and bought it just because i felt like i had to being a perfume junky. The book told me to!

It is wonderful. I sprayed this very sparingly. I am wearing this underneath my shirt instead of on my chest area where I'd normally spray. It reminds me slightly of roberto cavalli but less synthetic. It doesn't smell like it but there's a similar creamyness the floral notes produce. I feel like this is what cher would smell like. People keep saying its very 80s/90s/beastmode. It is loud i mean don't get me wrong. But it's not loulou by cacharel. THAT is 80's to my nose. This is bold and beautiful. But when you're not a fan of loulou you don't have to fear this aswell. :) just use sparingly and you'll be fine.
Enjoy the creamy, sunny halo!

emilymonroe1

It is lush and filled with warmth and brightness in modest doses. Despite how lavish it is, I find the methods of application to be extremely extravagant. It blooms meticulously throughout the day or night with its outstanding longevity, projection and silage. If you want to smell like a sweet floral honey pot, wear Amarige. The world's largest flowery fragrance is this one. It is enormous. It's excessive. It never ends. It's stunning! Sometimes all you need is a massive flower. It is Amarige.

meliecat

It's a wonderful, potent white-yellow flower combo, tuberose-gardenia-mimosa with some ylang and peach, but on my skin plum shows up too. There's a lovely green drydown which is probably the neroli, it gives the fragrance a fresh vibe too. It lasts forever on me, and always reminds me of spring and summer.. It's such a classic fragrance, to me it's timeless, ageless, classy - perfect for any social gathering, or everyday for work even if you want to feel presentable. Every flower-fan should have at least a small bottle!

Janamh

It has always bothered me that 80's & 90's fragrances get a thumbs down simply because they are from that era. What people forget is that some of the most famous fragrance houses started then and have sustained famously for decades!
Amarige is one of those amazing floral concoctions that literally blows me away. If you are like me, you like to wear "beast modes"...as so many of today's juices don't last but 20 minutes on the skin.
This is beautiful...both in sillage and projection. It opens with strong gardenia, orange blossom, and carnation and settles into the loveliest of musk, sandlewood, cedar (not masculine), and vanilla. It is not linear but the florals do stay ever present - they just become warm and sunny.
Unforgettable and timeless.

Eveningrose

It is definitely white floral galore ! It does have that 90s vibe. It’s definitely more of mature scent but I don’t mind it at all . The lasting power is good and I do really enjoy the bottle as well . I will keep it in my collection!

dismalharmony

I am devastated that I don’t love this. I really want to. In theory, this is an absolutely stunning fragrance — lush jasmine, tuberose, gardenia, some faint woods. For the first couple of minutes on my skin, I am taken aback by its beauty. Beyond this point, however, I become increasingly more uncomfortable as it floods my nostrils and hits the back of the throat. By the end of the hour, I am racing to the sink to scrub it away. It’s not that I don’t enjoy a good strong fragrance — I spend hours happily engulfed in heavy fogs of my favorite sillage monsters, so strong and thick I can almost taste them. There is just some screeching high-pitched thing in Amarige that assaults my olfactory system and sickens me on a visceral level. I can’t even chalk it up to user error because I did not douse myself in the stuff, not even close. All of this stems from a drop to each wrist out of a sample vial. This is REALLY good news if you like this fragrance — you are truly getting more bang, nay, more atomic bomb blast for your buck. In my case, however, I don’t think there is a quantity of this fragrance small enough that I might properly enjoy it. I am heartbroken. If not for this fatal flaw, Amarige would most certainly be entering my regular rotation. Alas, there is only so much nasal torture I can take before I write a fragrance off as a total loss. I’m sorry Amarige. It’s not you, it’s me. Let’s stay friends… or maybe not.

takema

Amarige and fragrances like it are just not for me. Most of the big, bold fragrances from the eighties and nineties (mostly the florals) always put me off. I was a child and teenager in these years and I think many women wore these fragrances quite liberally. So liberally that they were overwhelming and unpleasant. There are of course some exceptions, but the heavy florals tend to be the ones that really turn me of. Amarige is mostly a tuberose fragrance. In the opening I smell a slightly spicy tuberose sweentend be syrupy fruits. As it dries the fruits fade and it's mostly a floral fragrance with the tuberose drowning out most of the other florals other than the carnation, which I think is contributing to that hint of spice. The very deep drydown I find quite enjoyable, but it takes 2-3 hours to get there. At this stage the tuberose is much more balanced with the warm and comforting base notes. The vanilla, woods, tonka and amber seem to take the edge off of the florals.

I find this fragrance pretty dated, it smells like the eighties and nineties. Because it smells so like the time it came from I also see it as mature. As a woman in her 40's I still feel too young to wear this fragrance. I always imagine the people still wearing it, are the same people who wore it when it was released. When I was young my mom tended to wear the spicy amber and vanilla fragrances, so if your mom was into the big florals you may have very different feelings than I do about this fragrance. When trying fragrances from that era, I enjoy the ambers and vanillas and generally crinkle my nose at the florals. Whether my mother's fragrance choice influenced me, or she just happened to wear what I like, I will never know.

This is a strong fragrance with a pretty powerful projection, even with a light application. The last time I tried it I wore one spray on the back of my neck and one to each elbow crease so the fragrance was never too close to my nose and I still found it was too much for me. It easily lasts 10-12 hours on skin and has a room filling projection for the first couple hours and is still projecting beyond arms length for much of the wear. I could even smell it very lightly on my skin after showering.

I'm not really a fan of the bottle design. I feel like it would have looked dated even in 1991. The quality is fine though. Heavy glass, good atomiser with an ugy, cheap cap...typical Givechy. What is with so many of their fragrances having bad caps?? At least this one fits comfortably.

AMGMoonHalo

I was seeking a decant for Ysatis when I also obtained one for Hot Couture, Organza, and Amarige. Ysatis was okay at first sniff. But, Amarige was an instant love. I have reminiscing fragrances in my collection, but this is a beautifully feminine fragrance. I could see it used in a fall wedding, cool nights at the opera or galas. Even a pretty date night scent.

Petrab83

I've had a love affair with this scent since I first smelt it 21 years ago. The Scent is beautiful and bold and stays eternal. It announces your presence and its one of my all time favorites 😍. Definitely recommend to those who love florals that are unapologetic and stand out. I would rate for any weather but that's just me.

cats_eye

This is a classic that hasn't been ruined with reformulations. It still smells good. It's a woody, ambery floral with fruity notes intertwined and an overall soapy feel. Later on there's a nice sandalwood and musk drydown with the slightest hint of sweetness.

Perfumerzlove

Scent of days past. My mom’s signature scent, & she passed it on to me. Need to get another bottle soon!

rashedabdalla

Why O why? i luv Amarige, BUT, yep, some times there is a but! cant wear it! way too strong for me. it gives me headaxge and nausia! ps: I even have e mailed Givenchy tocome up with a lighter version, but to no avail! Amarige, I love you, but I can't have you, love!

ShowMustGoOn

Sweet tuberose/jasmine explosion! And I am not even a crazy floral fan. I like a lot of citrusy or masculine leaning scents. This is all feminine!

Go easy with the spray. I have EDT and it’s so strong. One spray lasts 24 hrs. Crazy! I stayed away from it for so long bc of mixed reviews, etc. but I just bought it at CVS with discount. If you like tuberose and jasmine then it’s for you. For the more modern version - Gucci Bloom is great too. Similar vibe with notes but not as potent and doesn’t have that 80s-90s vibe. I own both. Both are worth every penny.

This is sushine, bliss, comfort, peace of mind and luxury and everything golden in a bottle. I habe been searching for this scent for three long years. My mom was given a dupe of it back in the 90s. I would spray it on myself when going to school and yould keep sniffing at my scarf during the day - mind you, I was in 3rd or 4th grade. Now I realise that I must have been a fraghead already as a young girl.
Anyway, I was trying to find this sunny, round, invaluable scent of my childhood days. I sniffed myself countless times through the parfumery departments, blindbought myself a cuppoard full of potential candites only to put them aside. But then one day it happend - this bottle sat there waiting for me to be discovered. And once I sprayed this, peolpe, it was all there - EURIKA!! Nothing compares to this juwel - its just perfection. So smooth, bright, sweet and super elegant and feminine. Every time I smell this it brings me so much joy and happiness and peace…
Thank you for another master piece monsieur Ropion.
This man actually made all of my favourite fragrances. The one true master of parfumery in my view.

Lola7

I think this is a potential signature scent as there is nothing else like it and it's instantly recognisable - I also find it very modern (really, it's v un-gramdma like!). Great value for money too and it really lasts.
I remember this perfume when it was released in 1991 and my mother wore it. It will forever remind me the Cote d'Azur; sunshine, stunning scenery, chic bars and restaurants to be seen in. It's very elegant and grown-up. This is 24k gold - no pretend vermeil plating here.
Beautiful confident scent that although opulent, floral and juicy, dries down on me leaving a very subtle warm, creamy almost almondy coconut hint.
I think this is such a clever, genius scent - happy and outspoken, sexy, warm, bright and fun.

Eva Wu

I kind of love this fragrance? I also can't stand it? I hate to love it? I love to hate it?

It's a huge tuberose, loud as hell, unsubtle, over the top and synthetic, which generally makes life difficult for anyone standing in a closed room with it.

These are all good things in my book. There's something about it that feels almost masculine, with this intense dissonant creamy green thing in the background.

My qualm with it is that it really does give the impression of a perfumer throwing everything at the wall to make a cheap fragrance feel luxurious, and ends up with this deodorant-medley backdrop that, while unmistakable and distinctive, I just can't get on board with.

With all that being said, Amarige was a huge hit, has stood the test of time, and is a testament to the talent of Dominique Ropion, probably one of the best noses in the biz.

Alexscollection

I love this, but not for me. It isn't something I've gotten for myself either, so there's zero disappointment in this review. My grandma has always worn this, but this is not to be mistaken with the classic "grandma smell" either. It's mature, definitely, but suits my grandma because she's always just been so cool.
But to me, it's very reminiscent of her old house she lived in with her powder room/dressing room next to the bathroom. As soon as I smell it I think about her lit up mirror with those round bulbs and the smell of her makeup in her drawers.
It's one of those perfumes that does an especially good job at transporting you to a memory.
It's very sophisticated and not at all overbearing. It's mature, lingering, but soft.

xpetra82

90's nostalgic in the best way possible...
there were so many dupes on this one those days that its like i had it ...but i didnt! It just arrived and the moment i sprayed it( nice sprayer by the way) i transported in my teens....
So soft and elegant! i am glad i have it on my collection!

brandi.head

This is one of the most powerful and strong fragrances I have ever sampled. It immediately smacks you in the face. Everything, all at once, very heavy. And you better hope you like it because it lasts forever, and you cannot wash it off! Unfortunately, I do not like it.

I get an overbearing yellow floral chord that drowns out the white floral. I don't care for yellow floral, so maybe I am picking that up more than the white. I see that others find this to be a predominantly white floral, but I don't get the white floral very much at all. Maybe some indolic jasmine, but I'll cover that later.

I get the fruit as well, but I can't detect specific fruit notes. It is not a fresh sugary sweet fruit. It is overripe and boozy sweet. I can appreciate overripe fruit in some fragrances, but it is too much here. The effect is a pile of fruit fallen from the tree and left to ferment and rot in the heat.

There is an overwhelmingly sweet presentation of amber and vanilla. I do enjoy some amber fragrances, but only as a background or complimentary accord. The combination with the sweetness of the yellow floral and overripe fruit makes the amber nauseating.

There is some element of musk or skank from indolic jasmine. This may be the only aspect of the fragrance that I enjoy. I wish it were more dominant. I can barely detect it.

There are so many other notes, but I can't pick them out of the noisy background. I do not detect any citrus, cedar, rose.

I simultaneously feel it is well balanced AND completely disjointed. It is confusing. The dominating notes are very well balanced, but the background is very noisy. There is too much going on in the background that it doesn't round out the heaviness.

It is too heavy, cloying, and just not for me. Although I don't like this fragrance, I wore it as a signature in the 90s. There are some unpleasant olfactory memories associated with this. I revisited it this week and gave it another chance to see if I changed my mind. I didn't like it in the 90s, and I definitely hate it now. After giving it another chance, I can say with all honesty that I hate this fragrance and it makes me sick.

I understand the reasons that it appeals to people, so to be fair, I rated as a dislike rather than hate.

nmassie

Words cannot describe how much I love this scent. It's perfect—it lasts, it is sweet, fresh, warm, floral, mature without being out-dated. It is like mouthfull of honey, but somehow juicy and feels like it quenches my thirst when I breathe it in. You can't go wrong with this one—it is my favorite for this reason. I will buy this forever.

Alive

This was my mom’s signature fragrance from the 90s to the mid 2000s. And to this day I consider it the best womens perfume of all time. 10/10

cherrycoke593

i really like it, it reminds me of my childhood. smells like my mom.

Quasar

Mr Ropion is one of the most admired perfumers….his creations are always tailored and finished. Beautiful and executed to perfection.

AMARIGE is exquisite and sophisticated.

Perfectly balanced as nothing stands out and all feels like one.

VIBRITING
WHITE FLOWERS (tuberose, jasmine…)
PLUMS, VIOLET AND APRICOTS and all that small intrigue NUANCES floating in the air

But there is this SOPHITICATED execution reassuring you that you smell good.

Can’t stand if someone says old or dated old-fshioned etc…..is pasta dated is Monalisa dated is the New York or London dated is Warhol dated …are the flowers dated? … . Can you buy CLASS or you just have it ……u can’t really put your finger on it.

Most of Mr Ropion’s creations have good STYLE and are SOPHISTICATED

…if it’s not your style and if you do not like it it’s another story….. but it’s still sophisticated fragrance we need to learn to distinguish those two.

I just purchased a large bottle of Amarige today, because lately I've been craving a creamy tuberose scent with a vintage vibe. This is so cozy and uplifting! What comes to my mind - a retro bubble gum, white wedding bouquet, juicy peach, sandalwood and ylang ylang. P.s. Dominique Ropion knows his craft.
Edit: 100% Zen mode, my anti-anxiety "medicine". It gives me hope and strength. I feel at peace when I wear it. The best creamy tuberose!

Charlotte_Grace_29

It took me a long while to give this fragrance a try. To me, it always seemed like a "mom" fragrance, although the incredibly 90's box design with the tie-dye lettering on a red background was always appealing to me. I think it must have been the name; "marriage" wasn't really anything that interested me, much less in a fragrance.

Fast forward to last year, and a vintage tester bottle of this beauty came into my possession. I didn't think much of it, but the initial blast of riotous yellow florals was enticing. I am not sure why this is categorized as a white floral, since to me the ylang ylang and mimosa really evoke more of a sunny, cheerful yellow floral feeling. This scent is an absolute BEAST. I am aware that I have an older bottle (the front and back have frosted glass), and there are some who say that tester bottles tend to be a little more concentrated, so please take my comments on performance with a grain of salt.

For an EDT this thing is a force of nature! I love the cheerful, happy, riotous bouquet of orange blossom, peach, plum, rose, neroli, ylang ylang, and mimosa. To me, the mimosa is what stands out the most as a top note. The fruit notes of berry and cassis are luckily understated here, since I find cassis in particular to be overpowering. The base of musk, amber, and sandalwood give a slightly exotic, resinous accord on the base, although I could do with a little more cedar to give the scent a bit more depth. Like many 80's fashions, this scent is loud, florid, and a little top-heavy. It isn't a particularly voluptuous or bottom-heavy scent. I love it for what it is, and the fragrance lasts and lasts.

Overall I think that this scent perfectly encapsulates a bridal bouquet in a warmer climate, worn by someone with a foot-high perm and trailing a seven-foot veil behind her.

Samantha Zin

First time I wore this fragrance I had just turned 18 and stole a couple spritz from my moms bottle. Well boy oh boy. I went out and returned home, took a shower so I can wash off the scent but everytime my skin dries the scent returned. So much for mom not knowing I stole some of her perfume. Non the less I bought my own bottle at 20 yrs and I'm now in my late 30's and I still own this fragrance. It's one of the few fragrance that I keep repurchading. I can't pinpoint any particular notes in this one cause there's plenty but I can't say for sure it smells fantastic, sofisticated, expensive and its a definite head turner.

Kuty22

My mom's favorite.
She would be 55 this year..
I will buy this fragance because it instantly reminds me of her. She always smelled great!
This, Organza, Haut Couture, and Trésor are the main ones I remember. I'd get a headache, when I sneaked in her room to sniff them, due to their intensity
Never thought Amarige was an EDT, it was so strong
❤️❤️

Elsee

This is a walk-thru fragrance for sure.

I still have a vintage bottle and use it sparingly. I ordered "Susan" by Al-rehab back in the spring, and it's amazing!! If you can't find a vintage Amarige, try this. It is 99% close to the original. I sprayed the newest version of Amarige and it's the same but much weaker. Still good though.

Enjoy and Merry Christmas!

Luna333

I was expecting sharp bombastic white florals, but its not that..floral yes, but its kind of soft and smooth, tender and romantic . it feels like spring to me. I sense a greenness and a really beautiful sweet undercurrent..very unique!

Perfumedsecrets

I have a vintage bottle and just bought a new one. The vintage has a heavy feeling like most do, but I enjoy the fresh bottle. The white florals feel brighter and more transparent. It still smells amazing, but it is different than it was.

Phemonoe

Edit: I'm obsessed with the positive review of this fragrance by another user here: a perfect orthographic representation of this fragrance. Every Word Capitalized!! Every Sentence With Two Exclamation Points After!! That Is What Its Like To Smell This!!

Wow, yikes. I tried this because I found that I liked Angel which is very polarizing, so I thought, lets try another polarizing one. This is very sweet, very loud, very synthetic, and in my opinion unbalanced and not well-blended. Migraine trigger for sure. It's like a Michaels employee with anosmia tried to make a plastic bouquet "more real" by spraying it with every essential oil from the soap-making aisle. In the dry-down it kind of smells like a sweet corn tamale, less offensive but still yikes.

No hate on those who love it, unless you're standing right next to me. I'm glad we all enjoy different things!

HibiscusLola

LOVE this, wow. I don’t know why I waited so much for getting my bottle.
(Little story time)
I tested it in sephora a long time ago, I remember smelling a lot of new fragrance releases, when I saw this beautiful bottle which gave me a vintage vibe. My first impression was a big floral fragrance, maybe too strong for my age, but beautiful.
.. I kept thinking about it for a few years. I forgot about the smell, but I had a few dreams of me purchasing Amarige and wearing it.
I am not used to dream about perfumes, that’s why I started considering to buy it.
I just want to say, the more I wear it, the more I love it.
Amarige is a perfume you wear for yourself, not to please others - I honestly think you should do that with every fragrance.
(For the scent)
This is the perfect tuberose. A fresh cut, delicious, creamy, buttery, dense one.
This is a smell of a welcoming house, clean and warmed by sunlight. There is a butter smell in the kitchen and a big flowerpot in the living room. There is a lovely garden and children playing with cats outside.
The mother is inside, reading a book and drinking tea, preparing a good snack for the children and the pets.
This is not a perfume, it’s a feeling of joy and beautiful semplicity.
A little side note: everyone says this is a bomb, but I had a different experience. The staying power is good, but the projection is not. I don’t mind to overspray, anyways.
Edit:
Ok, it’s a bomb, you’re right.
I experienced this with other fragrances, at first it seems weak, when you first open it. It ages with time and becomes more intense.
A favorite for sure. 🩷

gin42

Tested it earlier today. Smells like an exquisite white floral. I took a shower and can still smell it quite heavily! Now that’s some serious staying power!! Givenchy for the win😄

GladToBeUnhappy4

When I decided I wanted a perfume for Christmas last year, not knowing names or recognizing scents from those I’m around, I knew I wanted Amarige. My momma wore this in the 90’s and from what I remember, it was like the fragrance was made just for her. Even at a young age, probably not yet reaching double digits, I would sneak a spritz or 3, however, there’s no sneaking this beauty. When I finally had my own bottle, it smelled just as I remember, despite any reformulations I’m not aware of. Like others have said, it’s a sweet bouquet of flowers, with nuances of peach and plum. However, despite all of the notes that make this gorgeous nectar, it’s hard to isolate any of them due to the seamless blending. Today’s fragrances seem to focus on picking out certain notes and there are some (notes) I want to be able to detect such as leather, rum, coffee, or suede if they’re listed in a fragrance I want to try. However, there is a reason why Amarige is still beloved 30 years later and why it’s a timeless classic. It just smells yummy, feminine, beautiful, confident. It’s the perfect finishing piece for a special night out or to impress in a polished business encounter. It is one of the few fragrances I own that I use a light hand with, because the silage, projection, and longevity is enormous and everlasting with 2-4 sprays at most. Less is more with Amarige making it a steal with it’s already low pricing. I’ll always have a bottle of this on hand. Even though this is definitely a formal scent, I also wear it a home in lounge clothes on the days I’m missing my momma something fierce, who is several states away.

LSAUG

This is a very big perfume. You must go easy w/ this one to enjoy it but if applied minimally it is just lovely. Big gorgeous tuberose in all her glory, sweetened by fruits and ylang, ylang. The drydown is a soft feminine musk w/ the big florals and fruits still making their show all the way to the end. There is a tropical and sultry nature to this fragrance so it doesn't say "Bride" to me but more tropical island vacation. So to me it smells like the honeymoon instead, And the price you can have this for now, what a steal! A bottle would last you forever. This is a beautifully done feminine white floral.

Laila C

Just sprayed this again and oh boy: trio down memory lane!! I remember taking a trip to a department store with my ex, on a swelteringly hot day mid summer. I was wearing my favourite floral dress and little cowboy boots. We went into a perfume shop where this was on display and I casually spritzed it. Straight away it was love and I knew I couldn’t walk out of there without buying it and then drowning myself in it immediately. The ex was confused and said it smelt a ‘bit old lady but you do you babe’ but I couldn’t stop sniffing myself and I kept getting cooling wafts of it all day in the heat, well into that evening.
THIS is how to do tuberose. It’s sweet and fresh and real, not like synthetic florals but as if I’ve just stuck my head into some real life Tuberose flowers… and then the peach! It’s like a peach ice tea on a hot day. It’s literally my idea of a heavenly summer scent. I’m taken back to that place… which is why it can’t ever be my signature scent again. I will always enjoy smelling little wafts of it on other people and I will cherish the memories I have wearing this but that’s where they must remain. Memories of a beautiful summer, in a day long since past with my ex. Thankyou Amarige. You are truly special ❤️

Amarige seems to be the one I expected : it tells me the story of a woman : the first note is like youth and springtime, the middle note is made with marvellous opened flowers for a happyness life , and after drying, the notes are a soft memory of the first notes with an add of a light ghost of powder...like these days just before automn, giving harmony feelings .A chic Scent.... life is as short as this scent : need it again, need it more.

Slickchick81

The opening is everything, clean fruity and floral, so complex, stunning. The dry down is just as interesting, with so many notes but never busy always pretty. This perfume has wonderful projection and sillage, I have only had compliments and women swearing to purchase a bottle when I tell them what it is. This is my signature scent, since the 90s, I was 14 and my Mother bought a bottle and when I sprayed it I was hooked and stole her bottle. Buying it ever since. This is the perfume I wear during my working week so I go through a few bottles a year. I do have other perfumes but this is my main scent.

Perfumedsecrets

@smellsgoodtome9. Yes, Narcisse came out the next year in 1992. While their notes are different, they’re made in the same way. Big and intoxicating!

Bopha85

Holy Moly! Big 90's vibe, extremely sexy in a modern way in my opinion. Timeless.

annxyz

This one gets many compliments and lasts all day. It smells expensive, rich, and like nothing else . There are very few perfumes today that compare with quality . This perfume is a bargain for the longevity and quality . I never tire of it .

((( Listen ))) - When I tell you, I am absolutely in LOVE with Amarige by Givenchy. Hands down, Amarige has been in my top 3 fragrances for the last two decades and it's still one of my best contenders. For me, AMARIGE is INTOXICATING... When I smell the bottle it makes me weak - Good lord I just want to lick it (giggles)!! ❤

When it comes to fragrances, I have no room for subtlety. Amarige is feminine, bold, confident, sweet, floral, powdery, musky, and LOUD AF (😁) LOL... The white and yellow florals are playing a very strong game of tug-of-war and I am cheering for both teams. Amarige gets me alot of compliments. It has great projection and will last ALL DAY on SKIN & Clothes!

Quick Update: Pulled this beauty out and wore it today. Yes Dolls, October 2021. Sprayed this perfume 9 hours ago, and it is still going VERY STRONG!! Some of these new fragrances smell nice, but they evaporate off my skin; but not Amarige. It's a miracle for a fragrance to sit on my skin the way this fragrance does.

I wish perfume companies would go back to formulating fragrances the way they did with Amarige and other frags in the 90's & early 2000's. 😭 But until then, Happy Perfuming Dolls...

*B* 😘❤❤

I love this perfume with a passion ❤🖤 and I will NEVER stop using it. Amerige is a very big love for me ❤❤.

This is an absolutely beautiful, addictive, smooth honeyed white floral that is also a yellow floral. I disagree that it's a big 80s powerhouse like Giorgio Beverly Hills, which despite its other merits, is an aggressive tuberose bomb. Amarige is not that. She's no pushover, but she's sweetly persistent--maybe more like Lancome Poem's less chaotic sister. There's not a rough edge, not a sharp note, nothing to displease anyone here. It had next to no sillage or longevity on my skin, but I'm starting to think I just have the kind of skin that eats perfume.

I put this on my collar, however, and it radiated all day long.

This would be a signature for me but it belongs to my mom and the association is proving too strong to make it my own.

NDStars

First blast of orange blossom, cloying heavy syrupy. After a minute, a whole hodgepodge of floral notes step forward. The only ones I can discern are gardenia and jasmine, all very sweet, almost suffocating. This is very much an aggressive powersuit mid-90's white floral. Yet it's not headache-inducing, it's not unpleasant, it's just a powerhouse scent. After a little while, a waft of red fruits fight their way through the florals, keeping everything on that syrupy sweet powdery tone. And hey... there's the ylang ylang. Overall a classic, if dated, scent with beast mode projection. Feminine and best for cold weather.

6+ hours later: Surprisingly, the staying power of this one did not match the projection. I catch only the faintest whiff of this on my skin.

Cloud Awhirl

Love at first sniff. Beautiful elegant flowers. Great projection, depth, longevity & refined, sophisticated. *sighs of delight* as I imagine myself lying in a field of fresh flowers in the spring. One of my top 5 favorites for springtime. Wedding day scentworthy.

Coco_fab

Amarige is literally the definition of a bouquet of flowers. When I think of Amarige , I imagine a luscious bouquet of flowers standing on a classy vanity table. The smell from the bouquet on the table mixes with the powdery make up compacts that are all over the table. Also Amarige reminds me of morning dew, a field full with flowers blooming in the early morning hours, with raindrops from the day or night before on their petals.

Amarige is a really classy , sophisticated fragrance and is one of Miss Diana Ross signature scents ! To be honest that’s the reason I bought it ! :) thank god I instantly liked it.

This diva is my spring time scent during the day.

I was raised in an ice rink in the nineties. My glamorous, dynastyesque coaches showed up in floor length furs (eww, I know, but it was an eighties hold over) layered in rhinestones and the real McCoy, even on their skates, at 5 o’clock in the am. Usually their makeup was on point, unless they had a particularly late night of hitting the sherry. I still remember their perfectly over-lined plum lips and giant helmeted coiffures, held in place by ozone depleting gallons of hairspray - probably Paul Mitchell. When they hugged me after my lessons, usually to give me some encouragement after I’d thrown myself relentlessly against the ice for hours on end, day after day, I remember getting a huge whiff of Amarige. Memories. It makes me feel like Joan Collins in a red sequined gown. Still my favorite.

D&gredcap

This screams out loud 90s !!!! The first notes are overwhelming and it can be too strong for lots but when it dries down the magic happens

Zethre

I have a small vintage bottle of this, sillage is huge, lasting powder is all day.
To me it smells like white flowers and soap. Really, really expensive soap, the sort that's pure white and French milled.
It's one of those good quality perfumes that changes with time, heat, humidity etc. Today I oversprayed, and suddenly I get strong honeyed tones of mimosa and amber as it dried down.
I've now tried both vintage and New. The vintage has slightly more soapy aldehydes, the new has a brief sharp sweet top note that I find odd, but fades quickly.
Definitely one that grows on you!

VioletOrchid

This juice is more fitting to be inside the V&R flowerbomb bottle than the original flowerbomb. It’s beautifully floral with excellent longevity and projection. A literal flowerbomb.

echurch1979

I set out to review substantially, every perfume I have, and come to test. It was a lofty goal to catalogue and categorize this sea of scent, but now, well over 130 have been filed and formatted. Down to the last twenty, I realize that what I'm left with are some of my favorites. That struck me as odd. These are the best of the best, why am I so reluctant to share the passion I have for them? I think there is always a small fear that I wouldn't do these magnificent creations justice. That my poor choice of words, would somehow tarnish their shine. Amarige is certainly on the list, and has maintained its position in my heart for thirty years. As I write these words, a gentle crisp breeze is coming through my window, brushing across my chest, and lifting this scent. A reminder that she is still relevant today, with all her radiant beauty and assertive presence. Often, misunderstood, Amarige is liberally applied, much to the discomfort of all that come in contact with saturated percussive florals and booming woods. As an over sprayer myself, I know the pitfalls of impulsivity to apply. Isn't more better? Won't more last longer? This becomes incendiary if donned without restraint. Three sprays, no more. That is all you will need to wear, and you will still detect its presence in the morning. As I peer at the list of ingredients, I am almost shocked to see what all has come together to smell so luscious. Peach, plum, orange and black currant add a spicy sweetness. Mimosa, neroli, tuberose and gardenia create a rounded floral. Vanilla, tonka, and ylang ylang's fruity facets add a touch of gourmand. But really, the stars of the show, the impact players, are a gorgeous use of sandalwood and cedar. Blended exquisitely with musk and amber, to create an exotically spicy concoction. It is warm, enchanting and beguiling - like it was conceived in the back of a gypsy's wagon transversing the southwestern mountains of America.

Phemia

Amarige suffers from being a pretty one-dimensional floral bomb. The immediate notes I pick up in its opening are gardenia, orange, rose, and mimosa. The rest of the florals just blend into a giant, generic floral note. I can pick up on a vanilla note sitting at the bottom and the peach comes out more as it dries. I smell the cedar more than the other wood notes but it's relatively subtle. The berries add a fruity sweetness but it's not overly sweet in my opinion.

Sillage, longevity, strength are all A++ here, perhaps to the detriment of my poor, sensitive nose and that's coming from someone who does often like florals, especially white floral fragrances. Keep this away from warmer weather where it will definitely be too stifling. Amarige is soft, powdery, and feminine although a bit too dated to me. I think there are better and more complex white floral-centric fragrances than Amarige, Versace Crystal Noir being one of them.

carlahoffman

The first spray to test the bottle to make sure it worked for I order this from Macy's online was oh no not another Oscar de la Renta, but within 5 minutes it started to soften down in it's floral notes. This definitely reminds me of the 80 & 90's perfumes that would appeal to a mature woman.

It is a huge floral bouquet in which I notice the Orange Blossom, Gardenia, Rose and the orange fruit the most. This is a strong perfume with a huge, loud projection, that wouldn't work for wearing in small groups. I would advise to spray once or twice before adding anymore

It is a great value for 2 sprays will last well into the next day with its woody dry down. Honestly not sure it's for me, its so strong and I'm not into vintage mature scent's. It will make a statement if your looking for that. Going to see if it might grow on me before I return it but have my doubts.

sidewalks

One of my favourite perfumes to play with as a kid. I picked up a 1997 partial bottle and wow, this is so JUICY. Mouthwatering, buttery golden tuberose mimosa is the only way I can describe it. I love that it has that distinct early 90's vibe. It is sooo well blended.

I've since got a second bottle. The second bottle still has the vintage lettering "de Givenchy Paris" but this one is less buttery and juicy, and more sharp. Sorry, I can't make out the code etched on the bottom of the bottle to know what year! Neither bottles are long lasting, and I find it has average sillage.

HJKImagery

Why does this perfume get trashed so much? I just turned 30 and I actually really love it! After smelling a sample I brought a 30ml bottle off eBay for £10! it's legit and i'm pleased.

Is it the same sweet cupcake perfumes that are popular right now .. no but that doesn't mean this isn't beautiful.
I personally really love my white florals and I want my perfume to be noticed.

You do only need a few sprays though so try not to go OTT on the sprayer. I like to do 3 sprays 1 on my wrists 1 on my chest 1 on my neck this is enough to be noticed and create a trail when it dies down, Any more then 3 and I think it could possibly be overkill. Depends on your body chemistry I guess.

I wear this when I'm feeling expensive if that makes sense?

Henglertdavis

Dancing around, laughing...friends everywhere. Bam! One of my lovely sisters swoops past me and...I couldn’t believe how absolutely gorgeous the fragrance trail was that she left. I stopped immediately. I ran over to her with baited breath and asked what she was wearing. She didn’t want to tell me. It was HER special fragrance. I begged. She sweetly gave in and told me Amarige. It was 1995...many moons ago but, dear Mr. Ropion, I shall never forget that first whiff of that gorgeous masterpiece. Tuberose heaven.

Sunkissed

This is one of my mom's favourites, it is a beautiful floral that lasts a long time on her. I would never wear it, I feel like Amarige belongs to her. I love it.

Elsee

I remember buying this back in the 90's and my boyfriend was not a fan. :( Sadly. Then we went to Disneyworld and somebody was wearing this. Just beautiful!!! I decided right then and there that I needed to wear this once again. Didn't happen....at least right away.

So....fast forward 25 years and now I'm wearing it! ;)
Yes, the 90's boyfriend is gone and hubby of today seems to like it. Thank goodness!!!!
I'm on the hunt for another vintage bottle as I only have half a bottle of my vintage left. By the way, my vintage is still amazing!! I did just order Susan from Al-Rehab as many say this is a dupe. If not, I'm headed to Ebay for a vintage bottle of my glorious Amarige.

How does the Amarige of today smell? Same? Reformulated? Would love to hear some thoughts.

Happy spring everyone!!

SimplyShandi

Beautiful, powdery floral scent. Lasts a long time, too

Amandini

I bought my first bottle on a plane in the early 90s when I used to fly a lot . My career days. I had a big bottle and a handbag gift size. In those days I couldn't identify the ingredients and flowers in it. I just wore it and it had big staying power. The other day I was going through my perfume bottles that I keep from years gone by, and I had a whiff of it again it was instantly familiar I used to smell like that. I don't wear it anymore but I'm now familiar with this golden thread running through all the perfumes I've liked as tuberrose. I also love gardenia. Although both of these are very heady perfumes and need to be toned down with something green. I have loved chypre all my life.. Don't like sweet perfumes. But I do love Rose, tuberose and gardenia mixed up with herbaceous. So Amarige imeadiately took me back to the 90s. Lovely how a perfume can do that to you.

perfumesniffer

Dominique Ropion makes sexy magic.

Amarige is a bold, spicy, fruity, honeyed tuberose with a green edge. I love that I don’t personally detect patchouli or woods at all. Amarige is all about a swirling chaos of sweeeeeet waaaaaaarm florals. Heady voluptuous Gardenia, Tuberose, Jasmine, Mimosa, Ylang, Orange Blossom are all at the party. Hugely, hugely synthetic but gorgeous nonetheless. The far dry down base is an ambery yellow floral. Kind of makes me weak in the knees with its sex appeal.

Beast mode sillage and longevity. Enveloping, intoxicating, absolutely suffocating if you apply more than 2 sprays. I used to spray in the air and walk through which was plenty.

Doesn’t seem dated to me but reminds me of the late 90’s - early 00’s. Similar themed bold florientals in my own collection that are more popular today would be Alien, Scandal and Classique.

Amarige smolders. She is The One and Only. I think I read it was discontinued; which a crying shame. Doesn’t make me think of marriage (considering it’s namesake), but it might make a man think you’re marriage material once he smells you. My ex-husband adored it. Made his eyes roll back.

If Amarige were released today by Tom Ford or Ariana Grande (or Ex Nihilo or MFK or whomever the affluent youth fancy) it would be hugely popular among the under 30 crowd (not that it actually isn’t still popular in general because I think it’s a top seller online).

PS: I don’t know what the reformulation/current smells like. I’ve had all the Harvest Editions (mimosa & ylang) and the pure parfum and those are all to die for.
PPS: Because it’s so synthetic and huge, Amarige is not one to smell close up on your wrists for the first time. It’s better to experience it from a distance, as others would, to familiarize yourself with it. Spray it on a sweater or scarf and leave the room. Smell it as you re-enter the space and get close to the sprayed item.
PPPS: I never smelled this on many back when it was my signature. I used to work in a high rise in the city and another woman from a different law firm wore this and her scent trail after departing the elevator was intoxicating. It was like she and I had a little secret. We always smiled at each other.

Guerlinade

Pfff. This is so '90s I wanna run and hide.
Squeaky clean white flowers, soapy with the merest hint of urine, just YAWN.
Some teacher of mine used to wear this now that I think of it.
Reminds me of Arpege by Lanvin, but Arpege is better if I ever want to smell like expensive soap.

hkremer

I wore this in the 80's and it was too intense for me. Even after Poison, Obsession and all the other spicy-sweet beasts the decade offered up and that I lived for, Amarige, Organza and Haute Couture were too much on the nose. Organza with its nutmeg, Amarige with the rosewood and cedar, and Haute Couture with everything, I had to run away lol. After buying lots with minis of all of these fragrances, I decided to attempt to layer them with other juices to tone down their spiciness. Voila! Today I paired Vera Bradley's Vanilla and Sea Salt to add some sweet to the spice and earthy brine (sea salt) to the wood. It works!

Anamandy

I found a 1oz. bottle of the new version in the bargain bin at a local discount store for $7. The box was banged up and was mixed in with a lot of cheap drugstore fragrances and body mists. I asked the cashier if the price was correct and she pointed to the pink sticker on the side of the box and said, “Yep, that's the price.” So I bought it. I have a 1/2oz of the parfum in this weird bottle that's shaped like a small round dagger which I have to keep in a drawer to stop it from rolling around. I also have Amarige Mimosa de Grasse Millesime. Both versions are beautiful, but I find them a little too dramatic and big for day wear, at least for me. I was happy to find this bottle to see if the reformulated version would work any better in the day.

Right off the bat, this is a little rougher around the edges than the original version. While staying true to the original scent, there is an underlying sharpness on opening that is missing in both versions I have. My hope that this would be more restrained were dashed as this is just as loud as the original formula, though the silage decibels and sharpness do calm down after about an hour or so of wear. Then it becomes almost the same sumptuous honey floral as the original. Longevity is impressive. It lasts just as long. I'm still not sure if I would be comfortable wearing this scent to work as it just seems too opulent for that. I do love the scent though, and love to wear it at home or while on an evening out.

Overall, I would say this is a good replacement for the original formula as the difference between this and the vintage are not very apparent after dry down. Givenchy did an excellent job keeping this as true to the original formula as they could. That's quite a feat considering all the restrictions placed on the perfume industry today. While I prefer the original version, just by how smooth it is from beginning to end, this is a great alternative that I am happy to have.

ephemeref

This is my first encounter with tuberose and well I am in love. Creamy, classy, feminine scent that I rock even though I am 23 :). Getting myself a bigger bottle very soon. Givenchy, please keep this

ambydawn

I haven't tried this perfume since the late 90s and I am blown away by how much I still love this scent! This became popular around when I was in middle school, and I can distinctly remember spraying it on myself anytime I went to the mall. I loved it so much, but that was a time when I was wearing drug store scents and body sprays and then I fell into the whole freshie/aquatic phase and forgot about my love for this jewel. There are other sweet white/yellow florals that I also love, but nothing compares to Amarige's sillage and longevity. It is truly a bomb! I sprayed three times at 6am (forearms, hair, and neck/shirt) and can still smell it wafting around me at 6pm! Even my beloved Alien can't compare with that. It is now the coldest, driest time of year where I live and I suspect you could be smothered nearly to death trying to wear this in the summer, though I think it could be done if applied with care. Plus this can be had very inexpensively at discounters. I must have a bottle now!

CompassionLoveWisdom

Well, on me this is mostly berries on the bed of white and yellow flowers. Overall it is ok scent, not a grandma scent but it is definitely for older, professional and conservative woman over 40 who has her boundaries and is not willing to step out of her comfort zone. I won't be reaching much for this one, because if I want me some white flower perfume I will reach for my Pure Poison by Dior, because that is how I imagine white flower scent. Sometimes this one gives off a smell of urine in a bathroom with some fruity air freshener, I know, it's weird, especially if smelled directly from the atomizer. I am glad I have it as a famous perfume from the 90s and because of my respect for the house of Givenchy and I hope I will use it in the future especially as I am nearing 40s.

Sunkissed

One of my mom's signature scents. What a beautiful floral! But I cannot imagine myself ever wearing Amarige. It is hers. :-)
Update: I just noticed I posted the exactly same review today lol. I totally forgot I had posted this one and I basically said the same again. You can tell I really love this fragrance and how it makes me think of my mom.

Magifera

Remember how Coco Chanel wanted for No.5 to smell "like a woman"? This is it. Givenchy Amarige smells like a WOMAN. A staple of the 90's feminine classics that somehow does not smell outdated. Sensual, warm, sparkling, bright, honeyed tuberose. Sunny, crisp day in October. Only Laura Biagiotti's 'Venezia' evokes the same nostalgia in me. What a beauty.

Fonna2

Just ran out, and made a purchase.
I can't go through the winter without this little gem. As one of our perfumistas said on his video, you spray it, and it's just "there", and what a "there" it is.
Juicy, heady, and just gorgeous.

Jabouba

One of the best perfumes, I always keep buying it over and over.
The projection is excellent and great quality.

Flameinga

Smells just like grandma's bathroom, where she kept all of her perfumes and makeup...its so good I wanna cry. Not even sure I am mature enough to wear this one yet.

HerNameisVeronica

This had been an early favorite, second only Ysatis as my first 'real' scent as a young adult woman. I still enjoy the scent, and better appreciate it -- even it no longer sporting shoulder-pads and big hair. It is for intimate or dress occasions now, no longer welcome in the streets or office. Ah well, I'll enjoy it as I can while I can and where I choose, the benefits of maturity. Didn't realize until I picked up a bottle how much I'd missed this scent in the years it was relegated to the back as styles changed. The quality of this scent doesn't change with time, nor does my ability to welcome all the wonderful exuberant fruits, floral, and wood scents blended with a master's hand. Just occasionally I may wear it intentionally to go shopping...and leave a scent trail a mile wide for others to enjoy, wrinkle their noses, or fake sneeze. Bah!

dcdunnington

This was the first perfume that became a signature scent for me. I purchased a bottle of this the first year it came out. It was love at first sniff. I always have a bottle, and always will. It is just the most beautiful, sweet, floral, feminine scent. Although my perfume journey has definitely expanded over the years into a much more refined experience, the nostalgia and just pure love of this scent never fails to get me! My husband loves this on me and I get a lot of compliments. I don't know that I'd consider this a blind buy. I admit that it is probably a very nostalgiac 90's powerbomb of a fragrance. However, it is definitely worth your consideration.

ayken

this grabbed my attention in seconds, the bottle, the name and then its lovely scent finally. really i don't know why but something in this perfume just knocked me down in a good way, it's light yet sweet but honey sweet type scent.... it's smooth it could linger on your skin and anyone passing you would want to just get closer because the scent is just that strong in the most desirable almost mysterious type of way.
anyway, i cannot give a full review yet but i am going to go back to it again and see what i didn't notice at first that it didn't make me fall in love with it.
--
back again but now i tried on my skin. and i fell in love....
right now it has dried down to a simple floral type of scent yet on my skin the projection was so weak, at first sprary, it was super strong however not polarizing as some might say.
this is a dated scent that has a lovely freshness to it and i compared it to poeme by lancome as i am on the hunt for a "dated" fragrance that isn't too disgusting to my nose
however this is a defnite winner and the smell is just simply sublime. in love but i wish it had a better projection, at least on my skin. i guess spraying it twice would help as i actually sprayed it only once because some said it has a strong long lasting power hence once would be enough.

I feel naked in this one...enough said! The associations with the wedding elude me somehow...

Amarige is one of my all time favorites, and I do not care what LT said. I think he also said Champs Elysees was one of Guerlain's worst scents, and I love Champs Elysees. Yes, scent is a deeply personal experience. Just finished a small bottle of Amarige that I received a few Christmases ago from my daughter. I will buy a big one to replace it. I had it when it first came out as well, and it seems that it has been reformulated, but it does not impact the bouquet in my opinion, but rather the longevity. But, since it was a beast in the 90's, it is still pretty strong today. I get tuberose, mimosa and gardenia in a big way, not so many of the top notes, though. Also, in the last year I have probably bought around 30 bottles of perfume, as we have been stuck at home so much. I wore all of them to the store, restaurants and visits to family and got complimented on only 2 (my skin eats perfume with gusto, so no surprise there). They were Mon Guerlain and Amarige - both top favorites of mine. And I agree with other reviewers on the "old lady" aspect. This is total nonsense, and rude as well.

Siv7Stars

Why is the video attached to this page for Ysatis, not Amarige?

lady_ireth264

Suffice to say that if I ever found someone I wanna marry, I will wear this as my wedding day perfume. The name is so apt.
But of course I'm wearing it any day that I want now too.

It's classy, elegant, effortless, timeless, beautiful, and mesmerising.
I got many compliments too. It's not that long lasting on me. I'd say moderate but I don't mind spraying again during lunch break.

It's superbly blended I cannot distinguish many notes just mimosa and tuberose and all good stuff blended.

Goofy79

This is perfection in a bottle 👌👌. Amerige is a high quality perfume and I love it ♥️♥️.

Staying power is great. Nothing has changed since it came out in the 90s I haven't noticed any reformulation at all even if it's been reformulated.

Super quality, thanks Givenchy.

Amarige is a torrid affair. It drips honey from it's fleshy blooms. In small doses it is luscious and brimming with sunshine and warmth. One spray too many and this one is a dagger to the stomach. As opulent as it is, the means of applying it are quite extravagant for me. I spray one full spray into the air and then fan it onto me with a little Chinese silk fan. Naked of course. It unfolds throughout the day (or night) like a meticulous flower. Wear Amarige if you want to smell like a delicious floral honey pot. Bzzz bzzz babe. 🐝

Once I couldn't stand it; now it's one of my favorites. Weird how perception and preference change, right? This one is dense, heavy (heavy on the plum, mostly), elegant, floral, recognizable. I would say it's an acquired taste. In 2 words: French class.
I don't appreciate all that "wear it if you're over 40" crap. It's just a smell, people! And if I like it, I'll wear anything I damn please, anytime, at any age, at a party or at the fish market, day or night. Enjoy it, life is short!

The first time I sprayed this, I was shocked, put off, because it smelled to me like a women’s public restroom (not sure why). “Old fashioned smell”, as they say. I put it away and was wondering how I could use up the decant.

Many months later out of curiosity, a little dab on the skin and okay, this is kind of different and interesting and I am smelling something familiar and creamy, is this(peach?); but still, that restroom vibe. This is a strange morphing creature…Back in the drawer for a year.

After reading some reviews on this scent recently, talking about this being its best in cooler weather, I waited when cool weather and fog came back to us again and decided to go with a heavy hand to see what came of it. Well, this is such an interesting creature…

I tried to disassociate the scent from the bathroom vibe and when I focused on the individual notes I began to recognize and on our list here, it began to be a new experience. I am getting it, I thought, all I had to do is give it time and experience to my nose, of something so complex it’s startling at first and second try. It is a challenging scent for sure and not for the perfume novice. It is mature...

Use it with a light hand in the right conditions, and it radiates uniqueness. It reminds me a little of an older Lou Lou, the big sister or young aunty of younger Lou Lou.

This is a scent that can grow on you once you understand the sum of its parts (like a piece of classical music or puzzle).

Also wanted to point out that there are many modern scents out there that will challenge you in the same way, but these scents are the real stinkers, duds, unlike this complex creature. Many modern perfumers try so hard to make the next weirdest scent, which usually turns out to be disgusting, unusable, a disaster.

This is a chameleon and is still growing on me. We'll see. 8/10

My mum just gave me the vintage bottle of amarige because she knows my love for perfumes. I already wore Alien by Mugler but when she gave me the bottle I was so excited that I sprayed it on my skin. I realised that they are a perfect layer match.
2 powerful florals one sweeter than the other but together they are BOMB. ATTENTION: THIS COMBINATION IS NOT FOR THE LIGHT HEARTED
Tip: Do not overspray

Peeka

Remembered this from my childhood (mum used to have a miniature of this & I loved it) so I purchased a vintage mini version of my own.

Very, very floral but beautiful nonetheless. I can smell nothing else though unfortunately. No fruits, musk, leather or vanilla.

Really overpowering to my nose. Use very sparingly, spray in open air & walk through, definitely not one you spray in a room & especially not one you spray directly onto yourself unless you like to clear a room before you’ve even entered. Probably sits a little strangely on younger people.

Far prefer organza - still floral (jasmine features prominently -less so than Mugler’s Alien) but is far more nuanced than Amarige.

Amarige is better for cold weather days or breezy summer evenings. Wearing it when the weather is warm would just intensify this even more & might make those with a more delicate constitution a little nauseous.

This is a very pretty floral scent I prefer it in warm weather as it gives it a bright ethereal aspect that I love. I never considered it for colder weather but reading the reviews it seems most people prefer this in the winter. I can't pick out what flowers I can smell but this is very well blended and such a classy fragrance. One of my favourites

Turin’s review marred this beauty along with Spellbound. But it is always to be thought that restraint is key.

Turin discussed that chypres were successful since they go hand in hand with gastronomy. But I beg to differ, chypres were successful because of their splendid use of oakmoss. I digress but it feels like orientals are dismissed outright without the merit they deserve.

Amarige is a sumptuous bouquet of mimosa and tuberose with flecks of green. It’s sweet but not cacophonous, instead its melange of accords give off a luxurious feel. In the realm of Poison and cohorts, the addition of spice above fruit and wood gives off a magical feel, quite dreamy. And this one certainly feels like a daydream. Mnsr. Ropion really knows his yellow florals well: Ysatis & Une Fleur de Cassie.

Note: The bottle cap is reminiscent of Hubert’s famous ruffled Bettina Blouse.

I always spray a little of this, when visiting my mom, she has a lot of powerhouse perfumes, and it's so much fun for me trying them on, experiencing, what works, and what doesn't. I get a lot of compliments, when wearing this, so actually thinking about buying it.

This was the first grown up perfume that I bought when I was 17 almost 18 back in 1994. I got it in the duty free in Majorca on my first holiday abroad and absolutely loved it. I wore it loads throughout my A-levels, going out to pubs and nightclubs and parties, falling in love and generally having a fabulous time. I couldn't pick out any specific notes, but I loved the strong, bright floral scent. Then one day it gave me a headache, which happened again and again and I have never been able to wear it since. I tried it again recently and it just turned my stomach and hurt my nose. It's funny how our tastes change over the years. For me this is a perfume that lives best in the past, in my memories of a brilliant time in my life.

A smell of my beautiful childhood memories aside of my mother. She was young and powerful, like Amarige was in the 90's. She has broken all the rules and all the barriers through the life, as Amarige has broken the rules in the parfume world. And so many good reviews has been written before me, all of them are welcome. Amarige denotes a particular quality in art of smell, bouquet architecture and design. Amarige was a reference and a standard in my parfume enhancement. My last thing is that Amarige was a model of inspiration in parfume world, as my mom was a example for me in my life.

Death Star floral ★★★★☆

I had a coworker who carried around her a cloud of perfume so nuclear people would sometimes specifically make ways to avoid her. Gladly I didn’t have to work around her much but when I did my tolerance for headache was truly put to a test. Her perfume was utterly loathsome in every aspect: louder than gunfire, unappetizing and completely indigestible, more intrusive than the Roman empire but worst of all pitched higher than a dog whistle. Simply put, it was inescapable torture. Years later I decided to revisit some classics and to my surprise realized that Amarige had totally escaped my radar until today and eureka.. the cloud of torment she dragged around was Amarige after all. In a technical sense this is a masterpiece. The central accord is instantly recognizable, unforgettable and absolutely without equal even today. The radiance and longevity are amongst the best in the entire history of perfume and amazingly Amarige retains a certain bright dewy freshness even to the last hours of the drydown. The soapy-green tuberose, however, is a ghastly mutant and entirely unwearable in any situation imaginable. You can’t wear this to work, lunch, opera, dinner, club or gym without drastically reducing someone’s quality of life. Amarige is great in small quantities and I do absolutely love it on paper, but the trick is to expose yourself to it for a couple of hours max and once a month. Past the second hour it becomes extremely tiresome and hard to swallow. Please, if you wear this make sure to never overspray or even better: spray on your fingers and dab it gently. Luckily for us who prefer less horsepower, Givenchy released (probably as an apology) the brilliant green-floral Insensé and the maximally comforting Organza just a couple of years after Amarige. I would never ever in a billion years wear this myself, but I hate to admit that the quality and originality in Amarige is unmissable and therefore deserving of high marks.

Opening is beautiful , It smells of quality and assurance.
The flower blast that hits you isn't a bad thing at all!

I was after a perfume with presence and was recommended this one so I ordered a sample, however I still feel a bit insecure in myself to rock this yet (hanging onto the las year of my 20's) so maybe in my 40's?
I went for Chloe Narcisse in the end for my powerhouse fragrance

When I say in my 40's .I'm not saying that to be disrespectful in any way . I say that as a compliment to the beautiful self assured ladies who know what they want, know who they are and they're fabulous so get out their way!

I imagine a confident woman with a romantic side who would wear this.
I think it's a beautiful perfume, I'm not ready for it just yet.
It deserves more recognition

Amarige reminds me of Frederic Malle's Carnal Flower, both were created by same nose Dominique Ropion. Amarige is more cheerful, sunny, complex and woodier, but creamy enough to compair with Carnal Flower. If you find a vintage bottle of Pure Parfum, grab it! It smells stunning. I love the bottle too. The stopper looks like misterious white flame. Magnifique!

Oh my goodness, this is a POWERHOUSE! This is one of the most fleshy, raw, and animalic florals ever. It's sweet, woody, powdery, and intoxicatingly beautiful. You will be noticed when wearing this, so apply with a light hand. I think winter is the only season really appropriate for a fragrance this intense. Amazing!

mariceltroitino

This is a beautiful fragrance-- one that I don't wear despite owning it, though. It is very strong and 90s; vintagey and too mature for me. Still a classic, long-lasting and statement-making, as well as elegant. I smell the tuberose very much, and it is quite powdery yet warm; a beautiful yet powerful flower bomb creation.

HollywoodNovaBaby

This is gorgeous. I smell tuberose and fruity notes. I feel like it’s in the same vein as Madonna Truth or Dare and Kim K original. To my nose it’s more floral than fruity. I love strong and this is strong! It’s beautiful

Annettesoami

My mother purchased a bottle as a gift for me on her last visit to France and IT was very strong for my sinus, overwhelmed my senses. I felt nauseated and ended up with a headache. I was trying to check which ingredient could of been the culprit, but all the ingredients are good for me;so I guess I just can not tolerate them all together.

SweetestMe

This perfume is choking torture. Mix of harsh, impossible to ignore- ina a bad way, florals mixed together to knock you dead.
I am sorfy if someone has a sentiment over it.

Never, ever use it for office, or even worse in the duty-free zone prior to boarding.
