Smells like bitter aftershave to me. Not cute at all. Probably wouldn't enjoy it much on a man either.

r0sebud

the infamous blair waldorf of gossip girl confirms she uses this exact scent sometimes.

“Nate winced. “It’s a little strong.”

“Really? What about this, then?” Blair grabbed his left hand and sprayed it with Hermès Eau D’Orange Verte. It was a clean, classic scent that she loved so much, she wore it sometimes herself, even though it was for men.

Nate sniffed his hand and was instantly overcome with nostalgia, thinking back to the days when he would lie on Blair’s bed, kissing her bare stomach and making her laugh.

“Nice,” he said, taking another whiff.
Jenny’s nose was running. She wiped it on her glove.”

Orange peel in a bottle. Beautiful.

This should've been an air freshener. There's no shame in making air fresheners, Hermes! Smells like car deodorant. Too much iso-e or whatever aromatics, not enough fresh, zesty orange...considering the name! Bunk! This entire line has awkward openings that turn into semi-good to worse scents with moderate to worse performance.

I love this so much. I wish I caught the mint note, but I'm happy with the herbal-orange. It doesn't last long or project much, but Ellena's updated version leaves a lovely sweet musk on the skin (you really have to bury your nose...but it's there for a few hours).

A great office scent, and unlike the original, which was very much suited to a middle-aged man in a navy blazer, the current offering is less cliché (coming from a middle-aged man).

Mr.Plague

One of if not the best natural orange scent. Extremely refreshing for summery days. Although, have to agree it doesn’t lasts which might be a problem for some.

Very Refreshing Scent

This is exactly what I wanted L’eau Lutens to be - fresh, clean, minty orange, high end laundry detergent, it smells the way a white crisp shirt feels.
Longevity is a bid disappointing, but somewhat of a blessing as well, since in the long run it would probably become a bit too aggressive to smell throughout the day.

i could never wear orange, nor have i ever wanted to, except for this. simple and beautiful. i first received it as a tester in a bnb in bruges. i have a years old body gel that i sometimes work into my hair right before i leave the shower, i almost prefer this form of wear than buying the fragrance itself. but someday i will, once i earn the money. eventually.

Maoe2212

I do not recommend this perfume, its very much like 4711 edc, but way way more expensive.

arthurbaron

Very fresh, citrusy, vegetal and humid like some elevated wet lightly rubbed lemongrass. A generous giant zest. Gentle and sharp at the same time, very positive. Present but only for a short while, not overwhelming or cloying in any way.

My grandfather used to spray himself a couple of times every morning after shaving. He was a discrete, elegant man who stayed loyal to this ritual as far as I remember him. The expression “faire sa toilette” makes perfect sense here. I have one small bottle that I wear occasionally with quiet excitement.

I feel like this is something to wear for emphasising your own mood and enthusiasm rather than to impress anyone since it doesn’t stay long on the skin and has a moderate projection. It’s just a beautiful, really well executed scent and will seduce all those who love citrus.

The first version of Eau d'Orange Verte dates from 1979 and was created by Françoise Caron.
Jean-Claude Ellena revisits this water, adding nuances, for a more in-depth 2009 edition that offers more outfits.
When the warm seasons come, it’s one of those fresh classics I love to wear.
A water that offers an instant "pschit" of freshness.
The notes of green citrus are well worked and accentuated by the blackcurrant bud.
The notes are both green, zesty and almost powdery. Here, the addition of oak moss is subtle and remains pleasant to my nose.
The hold is not long.
Renew a "pschit" of freshness is necessary throughout the day.
A renewal mechanism that does not tire me!
Unisex water.
For children of age, it is even very nice to have the first water...

1. Purely alive and unlikely to be like any other citrus, as it has a touch of milky peel being torn apart in the hand. It is possible to smell even the skin here, which manipulates citrus fruits, since it is necessary to stop well and capture it in the background.

2. I like the tonic sensation that Cassis leaves give to the fragrances they compose! I believe they have the power to bring this sense of perfume alive through their evolution. There are other leaves here that refer to the color of the bottle, immediately generating freshness even in the mind.

3. Not that it's absolutely true, but at least for me, most green fragrances tend to be tiring, boring at certain times, but here with Eau d'Orange Verte this feeling passes unscathed, and that's good!

4. The Vetiver here is dry, almost an incense already finishing and its Patchouli is earthy and slightly humid, maybe this patchouli fades if the temperature is not medium to high, and reminds me of the odor of feline urine, very noticeable in some perfumes niche or even Mugler brands, which we don't need to mention here!

#219 in my "Tour de Fragrance"

Got this as a sampIe. I was surprised by how much I like the opening of this fragrance and how realistic the scent of orange peel is here. Not sure that's a particularly attractive thing to smell like, or something I want to smell like, but the fragrance is certainly a blast of refreshment. The orange note disappears relatively fast though. In fact, in just minutes. The green left behind is kind of up my alley but doesn't make it to lunch on my skin, and that's a non-negotiable to me. Though I like this opening considerably more than I do the Terre everyone seems so impressed by, which I reacted to with a "meh", this is not a bottle buy for me, but Hermes gets an "A" for effort in coming up with a fruit note that is authentic in a market where most "fruit" notes smell like KoolAid powder.

EssentialMust

Eau d Orange Verte. I've been wanting to comment on this for some time now, after I tried the whole line of EDC, the concentrated one, the shower gel, the body lotion and the deodorant, either on their own or combined. I have read the complaints about the lack of longevity and sillage of this fragrance. Well, it is supposed to be a light, citrus fragrance and as such it contains minimal synthetics or chemical compounds (something that makes the shower gel very aggreable to dry skins) which in other fragrances give longevity and sillage. Personally, I can smell this fragrance until the next day. Lightly, I must admit, but it stays on my skin and on my clothes and people who come close enough to me can smell it. So, to sum things up: either product, from the whole line, on its own is not enough to make you smell for a long time. But the combination of shower gel, non-scented body lotion or cream and the concentrated EdOV, sprayed on strategical spots on you body can give longevity that lasts many hours (and, thus, avoid spending too much money on this beautiful but expensive fragrance). If you are into heavy, complicated, fragrances, forget this one, because your nose will forget it fast.

Forgive me if I said too much on this fragrance but I love it.

washudtoj

Photorealistic and beautiful. Hermès does orange citrus like no other!

Not as brilliant as Terre, but still extremely lovely. There's a lighter green version which I like better, however.

Taurien

Here we have the classic Hermés orange, green and astringent, naked and with no other decorations than a bit of moss and a background of wood. I also feel a certain vintage aspect.

It is a clean, pleasant and unisex fragrance to wear when you get out of the shower.

It has a soft sillage and lasts on my skin for about 3-4 hours.

The truth is that the scent has a nice quality but, for what it offers in terms of performance, I would not pay its price. There are other waters from this line that I like better.

This scent caught my attention when I was watching Sex and the City - Carrie Bradshaw sprayed it before going out on a date with Big and he complimented her fragrance. I RAN to the stores to test it. To my surprise, It's not the typical girly-pink-floral cologne I thought Carrie would wear. It's a scent few women would appreciate on themselves, but I honestly did. I love all things citrus and aromatic, and this one is pure class. It's that not-so-obvious fresh scent that suits anyone and instantly makes you feel cooler and a good taste person, in both women and men, but on women honestly, sometimes it lacks the warmth feminine fragrances usually have... for that reason, it's not my signature. Smells mostly oranges and moss and the orange here has that vitamin C capsules feeling. If you usually gravitate towards bergamot dominant fragrances you'll probably like this one.

flem

First whiff is bitter. Like a powdery orange zest. Comes across as a little dated. I would have guessed there was something floral in here. Reminds me of a cleaning product. Possibly a concentrate used to dilute and then clean floors with. That sounds worse than it is, since the overall scent is fine. Kind of refreshing, but maybe not in a way that some may want to smell like. It being a VERY light scent helps though. This won’t offend anyone, if they can even smell it at all.

bha70s

The good news is this doesn't appear to have been reformulated like so many other frags we love. The bad news is the performance is still so bad it's almost comical. Unfortunately for me this might be my absolute favorite fragrance so I still bought another bottle (6.7 oz. for just under $100). It still seems like burning money but it's just so darn delicious...

Steve907

In my opinion you have two choices with this fragrance. You can spray once or twice and enjoy a light, refreshing orange citrus for less than an hour, or you can spray the crap out of it and enjoy a nice, but heavy orange masculine scent for hours. It'd be nice if the light citrus could last for hours, but it just doesn't. Still it's good for hot weather when you may not feel like wearing something dense. Or perhapd you're going on a nature hike and you'd like to smell nice on the drive out, but then you'd prefer the smell of nature itself after you get there. It's not a bad scent and you can get performance out of it. And there are not a lot of orange citrus unisex fragrances out there that men can wear. Still the price tag...if you really like this, it'd be worth it, but for most people I don't think the juice is worth the squeeze.

mkcmn

longevity 30 minutes.. first sprey fresh citrus...

AMMILLER

I love this! It's a very green citrus. Think the orange tree with oranges on it, late spring, bitter unripe orange, glossy dark green leaves with drying spring dew twinkling in the sun.

I can really smell the oakmoss and hints of mint. A patchouli base with orange that peeks through throughout.

High end soap, unisex leaning masculine, addictive quality are some of my thoughts.

bloodorangesoda

As a fan of the sort of clean, hotel toiletry scents, something about this drew me in. It's a neat, well rounded scent, consisting of a zesty burst of fresh orange, over a backdrop of spicy, robust green notes. Its longevity is very poor (~2 hours) but it makes a great pick-me-up for early summer mornings.

Iriomote

Delicious, fresh, juicy orange…and then it’s gone.

Smooth, rich, and very natural smelling, this one brings to mind fresh-squeezed orange juice with green orange leaves, a dash of crisp mint, and touch of oakmoss and patchouli. It’s a great, simple, very clean fragrance, sort of a lighter, less serious counterpart to Terre d’Hermes. The problem? It’s gone in an instant. Especially in hot weather, where it really shines, it evaporates almost entirely in a hour. At that stage, you aren’t sure if you can still smell it a bit or if it’s just the power of suggestion. Two hours later, it’s nothing but a pleasant memory.

It’s not an especially complex scent, but I don’t think that’s what Hermes is going for. It’s more of an old-fashioned, pre-1960s style of fresh, citrusy, shaving soap/aftershave splash smell that is really timeless. Since it’s basically a natural botanical profile, it’s suitably unisex in the sense that “clean citrus soap” doesn’t really have a strong association with male or female use, though the oakmoss does give it a little bit of earthiness that might lean slightly more masculine if anything. Excellent quality and very natural, but it’s badly hampered by poor longevity.

Yu_L

Smells great but dissipates within 30 minutes on my skin. I’m getting a lot of orange, patchouli, and some oak moss. It’s a shame because I do enjoy this citrus fruitchouli scent profile and find it very chic and airy. Perhaps I’ll try the Concentre version.

Let_it_be

Orange Verte is in the same category as Dior's Eau Sauvage and Aqua di Parma Colonia. It's an old school smell that probably won't appeal to younger crowds. These are classic barbershop scents that are wholesome and comforting. I called them retro sophistication, they have more meat than most scents today that smells pretty but has no character.

nterix

This became an instant favourite of mine that will always have a place in my wardrobe. The lemony-orange make a big and bright opening that smoothly transitions to a green, herbaceous, earthy body. This fragrance leans mint, oakmoss, and patchouli-heavy on my skin. A fragrance that works all-year round but is undeniably perfect for the warmer weather. I have enjoyed wearing this in the fall thanks to the big, earthy dose of patchouli, and the orange notes make it approachable even in the winter in my opinion. A true love of mine.

Smelly_ponzu

It’s not orange-y, it’s lemon-y. If we want to talk about orange, one should try FM’s bigarade concentrée. Really want to like it but on my skin, it turns into a really wet/ moldy dish cloth scent. Sad.

dabeyondobsessedemperor

One of my first fragrances. I will admit that I was inclined to buy Eau d'Orange Verte after having stayed at numerous Sofitel hotels where the toiletries were perfumed by this Hermes scent, and enjoying them so much.

The cologne version smells essentially the same as the toiletries: lightly fragrant, slightly zesty, citrusy and almost like spring. It's pleasing, entirely non-offensive, and gives you that nice fresh-out-the-shower scent. The problem? I've taken showers that lasted longer than this cologne does. I mean, seriously, it even dissipates from the skin after about an hour and a half. I mean, it is an Eau de Cologne, so this might just be expected, but it's almost not worth it to pay over $100 for a scent that ceases to exist thirty minutes into the first spray. If you want this exact scent, either pay for the toiletries (they cost WAY less and actually last longer funnily enough), or find an excuse to stay at a hotel that carries Hermes toiletries (any Sofitel, the Burj al-Arab) and nab the shampoos from the shower (yeah I realize that'll set you back about a dozen times more money than you were gonna spend, but hey, you get the hotel experience, and also I'm just being sarcastic).

To be clear, the actual scent profile itself is fantastic. The performance (or lack thereof) just makes it overpriced in my opinion.

I first tried this because of the Gossip Girl novels. Weird, right? The character Blair Waldorf is described as having this as her signature scent. It is very unisex and refreshing. I got a bottle for my ex boyfriend (obviously, I was still with him at the time... I am not in the habit of buying gifts for exes!) I would wear it when I stayed at his house. My favorite was wearing it layered with a coconut lotion. The green orange made a fantastic combination with the coconut!

Eau d'Orange Verte is zingy and zesty, gives a "freshly showered" impression. This is a very clean scent, not too soapy or watered down. It is the perfect smell for a broiling and muggy summer day. Perfectly named, I feel as though I am standing in a Floridian grove of orange trees, the fruit just beginning to ripen in the sun. The neroli and jasmine heighten the effect of the oranges to make it a bit headier, and the bit of mint keeps everything outdoorsy feeling. On me the drydown is a strong patchouli/oakmoss combination.

I can see keeping a big bottle of Eau d'Orange Verte in the fridge every summer. I could splash it on after a long bike ride or day at the lake. Wearing this is possibly more refreshing than a Tanqueray.

Flicker

it smells just okay, it's a good citrus scent. But again like the rest of the people, the longevity is a joke and sillage is okay at best.

Lemon zest and mint .

derby2169

I am very surprised by how different this is to Concentre d'Orange Verte. I don't know where the myth propagated that they are the same scent at different concentrations, it's completely untrue.
Concentre is a much more tenacious tart petitgrain scent. Although unlisted as notes, Concentre evidently contains a limey top note more so than a pure orange, no sweetness or warmth aside from a gentle soapy undertone like a high end french soap block and the ever so slight reminder of an orange zest somewhere in the heart.
The EdC is it's own creation, to the point where I didn't recognize it when the lady at the Hermes stand handed me the paper strip. Surely there is a touch of green petitgrain in the top, but immediately I noticed that it felt more expansive and radiant with a characteristic radiant woody core that makes it leap of the skin much more intensely than the Concentre. Instead of the hyper-tart limey top note in Concentre, there is a warmer lemony top note, a touch of oakmoss in the base with a floral touch in the background.
Unfortunately it disappears very quickly, evaporating from the skin in a matter of minutes (30min to 1hr), almost as if it intentionally contains very little musks and fixatives to keep it from sticking to the skin and allowing it to radiate in the air.

My conclusion is that you simply need to own both versions. i love the unrelenting tart greenness of the Concentre, but I also acknowledge that the EdC is the rounder, more gentlemanly, more tempered expression of a similar concept that is perfect for keeping in your bag or car for a midday reapplication.

Enrium

Eau d'Orange Verte is a pleasant citrus cologne. It is very simple and far from groundbreaking, but follows the expected brief quite well. However, the performance is lacking, especially given the price point.

EOV opens with a delicious, zesty, photorealistic orange note - uplifting and vibrant. I am a sucker for orange-forward colognes, and the opening here is top-notch. It is joined by green, herbal notes, grassy and dewy. Mint adds more freshness, while the restrained patchouli adds a little earthiness. Not unlike Ô de Lancôme, it has a nice, mossy chypre base.

Unisex and ideal for hot weather, this is really nice, even if it follows a path well trodden. Which would be forgivable if it wasn't for its performance. With fairly intimate sillage (after the initial burst of citrus) and weak longevity, it is limited even for a cologne. Pity. 2.5/5.

i like it, but when a female coworker asks "don't you smell moth balls in here somewhere?", i have my doubts.

It smells very nice: a tart, fresh, lively, playful, invigorating citrus - but it doesn’t last half an hour. Relying only on this fragrance to perfume yourself, you could finish a bottle in a week, quite literally.

Would you buy a car that you could only drive to the bus stop because the battery died/the tank emptied after a mile or so, and then after a few dozen of these trips it didn’t move at all anymore?

I don’t see the point of this as a product, other than a cynical cash-grab.

kingderella

Lovely citrus. *Very* disappointing longevity.

Fresh perfume. I can smell orange and oak moss. Versatile, perfect for summer. The problem is the sillage and longevity.

I write my reviews for my own future reference.

Ok, who doesn't like orange, right? This opens with a nice fresh orange scent swirling in a classic aromatic body. As it dries down it warms up, leaving an orange, fuzzy, and slightly spicy and masculine warmth. It still smells fresh after it's initial dry down, and that's about it. Within an hour or two later I get really no scent off my skin, and it's not mixing well with my skin anyways, coming off more soapy. I put some on fabric and it's still slightly there, echoing it's initial brightness, but just a bit. It isn't trying to be overtly clever, but I don't find it as nicely layered as I would think. But the sillage and longevity are really the issue.

Edit: still like the initial opening, but remarks when it dries down still the same. After the bright orange opening calms, the more green body has an all too familiar patchouli barber bent to it? IDK, still after an hour or two it loses it sparkle! I prefer L'orange Amber, or some others in the series so far. But most of them I feel do suffer from a longevity issue.

yousif_dia

Another masterpiece from Jean claude elena, so special citrusy perfume for peronal enjoyment but for me its not for everyday use and still didnt find the right occasion for it.

thekidlaroi69

My favorite scent of all time. Green cool oranges. Wish it lasted longer though...

Subhuman

Yes, Eau d'Orange Verte is (arguably) overpriced and lasts about as long as it'll take you to read this paragraph, but I'm never without a bottle. It's a burst of summer holiday chic on a dreary winter morning, a practical refresher on a muggy midday, a one-size-fits-all bit of luxury aromatherapy, and a perfectly modern freshie with a bowler cap tipped to the past. Crisp orange with a verdant halo, covered by the merest dusting of patchouli and moss. Classy and elegant in that indefinable Hermès way, EdOV is the good kind of retro, so colorful and fresh that it handily avoids feeling dated. I'm curious about the Concentrée version, though I've heard from more than one source that the scent itself isn't as good as the original despite better lasting power. Whatever. I'll keep spraying this stuff all over my body and clothes like a madman, accept what I cannot change, and thank heaven for discounters.

Beautiful citrus that literally lasts 15 minutes

This is fantastic citrusy/woody scent — immediately felt in love with it after visiting Hôtel R de Paris. Since then it got embedded into my head as THE parisian scent. That's why I had to buy it in form of a fragnance

But this year I got much more into perfume and realized that this scent doesn't last AT ALL. No exaggerations: it really only lasts 15-30 minutes on both skin and clothes. After that there are 30-60 minutes of ultra faint trail of orange if you pretty much stick your clothes into your nose.

So now that I want people around me to actually smell my fragrance this is a terrible fragrance for me. Only buy just to sniff it yourself if you for some reason love this exact scent, and won't go for something like D&G Light Blue Forever.

Rod Bond007

I purchased a 15ml travel sized version of this and thankfully I did.

The opening is a very powerful citrus blast of orange and lemon. I don't detect any signs of mint or oakmoss until the dry down. After about 30 minutes the fragrance dissipates and you're left with a faint smell of orange. I would definitely recommend the Concentrete simply because this one is almost a one shot experience.

I got my tiny bottle of eau d'orange verte....and as everyone says, the scent vanishes almost within minutes....but these are a fun filled few minutes. The opening hit is an intense citrus that reminds me of the mandarin orange peels that I dried myself for cooking...and I understand why some folks identify a moment of animal odor...then wheeee..... nice fresh mint.

I bought this because I am bored silly staying home in the pandemic and in California's tragic smoke, running my air purifier and wearing an N95 mask to go shopping early in the morning. I just wanted some fun. For this purpose, this scent fills the bill. I could easily wear it to the grocery store, confident that I won't overwhelm the poor checker. I also have a feeling I might be able to concoct a version of my own. I have mandarin peels and mint.....I think I will experiment.

The next day: I splashed on a little bit more....more generously after washing my hair.....it is lasting longer when not competing with other scents and in larger quantity. It is very pleasant.

ObsessedJoydjay

I've always associated these Hermes tall green bottles with travel/hotel toiletries (lotion, shower gel). I still have a small plastic bottles lotion that I like smothering over my shoulders and spray fragrances over it, e.g. Faconnable 1994 for today, Burberry Men 1995.
Planning to try that with Monsieur Balmain next..

JessVanEgg

This is a fresh, green, citrusy and mossy fragrance. The orange note is sweet yet bitter, and there are notes of lemon and moss that are strongly present. There are also hints of mint and citrus leaves. It is fresh and clean, making it so enjoyable to wear during the summer.

The performance is not good tho. There is mo projection at all, it is super intimate. The longevity sucks, lasting less than 2 hours. And that performance makes it way overpriced imo.

6/10. Smells fantastic, performs horribly.

KempMcArthur

A beautiful green citrus, but with a certain deepness to it that hearkens back to something older and nostalgic. A refined scent that is energetic but also dignified. It doesn't last terribly long, but really the smell is so wonderful that I can easily overlook the lasting power.

monkey500

On my skin, Hermes Eau d’ Orange Verte opens up… uh… very green: mostly cassis leaf & mint with lots of pleasant oak moss. Inside 30 minutes the cassis & mint fade to leave mostly oakmoss with a faint hint of juicy orange.

Oakmoss lightly projects at arms length for the next hour or so… and within 3 hours it’s gone.

An interesting olfactory experience but not worth a bottle.

chrisk252

Fresh, juicy, sweet natural orange with a comfy amber dry down. Wasn't sure how much I'd like it, but after testing, I really really like it. Scent: 8.5 / 10

APJ

Let’s start by stating the obvious: it’s an eau de cologne; therefore, you shouldn’t expect great longevity, but boy, does it smell good!
Zingy, refreshing and bitter with something old school about it: it might be the patchouli/moss combo in the background.
One of my favourite eaux for the summer months.
Is it worth the retail price tag? That’s subjective, but happy I’ve managed to snatch a couple of bottles off eBay at a great price.

This should be on a list of, one of the most underrated fragrances of all time. This stuff...actually any fragrance from this damn company is just pure magic xD Imagine a smooth greenery smell, with a slight hint of sweet orange. It's just gorgeous. If it wasn't for Terre D'hermes, this would be my signature scent and honestly I wouldn't mind one day making it my go to fragrance.

Senteurnouveau

My favorite fragrance, one of the best scent i ever smelled but it's a shame that it last only 2-4hours ..
I hope one day Hermès will release an Eau de Parfum of this one, the Concentré is good but it lack something in the scent so I stayed with the EDC,

katariina9

I used to have a pile of Hermes Eau d'Orange Vert mini bath products that I always added my travel bags for about a year or so, so this scent throws me back to many happy and dynamic trips, especially to Italy. And somehow it works really well in shower gels and lotions- the longevity of the scent is great on the skin.

As EdC, the scent is more multifaceted of course, and more rewarding. I get a bitter orange rind with mint at first and soon after fragrant blackcurrant leaves that are used in pickling cucumbers in my national cusine. Fresh blackcurrant leaves are some of the most under the radar gems, really gorgeous and imo make this scent to what it is - a unique supremely refreshing herbal aromatic with a touch of bitter orange. Mossy and earthy base supports the longevity... and weirdly it all really works be it summer or winter. I really need to stock up on both the EdC and showergels/lotions again.

tessture

I wanted to love this, regardless of it's brief life span, but it doesn't work for me. On me, it's bitter to an unpleasant degree. I get bitter, stinging, unripe orange for five minutes, then nothing at all. This was a waste of time for me. So sad.

Glyph

This opens so beautifully with a big blast of photorealistic orange that then quickly becomes more complex with green mint, and then dries down to a quiet oakmossy finish. But then it's all over before you know it. It's a chypre that acts like a cologne, and it would be worth it if it were cheaper; but to get much out of this, you'd have to buy a big bottle and keep replenishing yourself with it all day, so it's more expensive than it seems.

I am curious to try the Concentre version which lasts longer--if it has the same notes it would be lovely to have, because this is so refreshing (although alas the Concentre version does not seem to have any oakmoss).

I first got a whiff of this when I was staying in a hotel in Paris in 2013. The bathroom toiletries were all Hermes d'Orange Verte. I used the shampoo and conditioner before going shopping. Every time the wind blew through my hair, everyone behind me complimented me on my "perfume". The next day I used the body wash and lotion. I was hooked!!!! I stocked up on the ones from the hotels during our travels and used them "sparingly" because I didn't want to run out too soon. Fast forward 8 years. I found the the Concentre and Toilette at a reasonable price and purchased both of them. The Concentre is closer to the fragrance I remembered, but the Toilette is just lighter. I am a woman and I don't feel the scent is masculine on me, just fresh and joyful.

confluent qualia

Opens with a twiggy, green orange blast (as per the name). Very fresh and high-quality. As it fades, there is a scent in it that is highly nostalgic that I couldn't quite place. I kept imagining the inside of a brand-new leather purse, or perhaps the scent of a young rich woman. Then it hit me: neroli.

I don't think I'd personally wear this. It's not terrible, but it doesn't last very long as others have mentioned and fades to a skin scent almost immediately. I imagine this should only be worn on summer days. I am glad I bought a 1ml decant. Pleasant, but not something I'd invest in.

Forever Neil

This is a pleasant orange aftershave with a hint of lemon. You can usually find the 1 ounce pour type of bottles on ebay for 15 dollars as a splash.

lindenberg

Dumbfounded by all the reviews mentioning summer - if this is not a winter's fragrance, I don't know what is. The mint in it just does not allow it to be anything but winter in my mind.

This is exactly what I want to smell (and smell like) sipping tea after an afternoon on the slopes, watching snow fall, or reading a book in a cabin, by the fireplace. This fragrance is cozy, green, and vintage/old-fashioned in a good way.

viewdemonde

Heavenly, full-throated, round shouldered, knockout citrus/green. Lasts and lasts.

Callista25

Very light orange cologne. Nice but faint.

NDStars

First blast of sweet bright orange and... I get bergamot on my skin. Clean, fresh, simple, unoriginal, the definition of a dumb reach if you just want to wear something before heading out the door. After a minute, the scent deepens into oakmoss. Fades pretty fast but I guess it's meant to since it's an EDC. Minimal projection.... this costs HOW much?? Unisex and best for super hot weather days.

6+ hours later: It was all gone 4 hours ago.

so darn beautiful and as everyone wrote, the opening doesnt last long.the salty orange, leafy green opening doesnt last long.it is an awesome opening but the dry down is what ts all about for me anyway.sandalwood?doesnt anybody smell sandalwood?if not then i am mistaken but i do smell wood of some sort and a wonderful wood in fact.this is my first hermes and am tickled pink.sprayed on last night before bed and still smell it in the morning so a decent skin scent.the skin scent starts at about an hour after spraying for me and that is a killer for most.would i recommend buying?you wont be mad but you will be wondering why hermes made an awesome perfume so weak.yeah i can still smell it on me so i wont complain about this 7 yr.old beauty.BTW i could feel my lips numbing a bit just like when i peel and orange with teeth when i smelled it close.made me chuckle.

whoaboy

The scent itself is fantastic: fresh with just enough undertone to keep it interesting. On me, I get the patchouli supporting the citrus top notes but only very lightly. It's a fantastic, old-school choice for the summer. A caveat: if you put it on after you shower, it'll be completely gone by the time you tie your shoelaces. I paid full price for it last week at Hermes and have used almost a quarter of the bottle. I recommend looking for it discounted on eBay or somewhere else.

SimonTreefield

I utterly adore this, I truly love it, and it makes me so, so sad!

From the opening spray this is photorealistically natural, like peeling an orange whilst walking through a citrus grove that has fresh mint plants growing around the base of the trees. Beautiful, delicate, utterly gorgeous!

The sad part? By the time I get to the front door, most of the aura of the scent has disappeared, and almost by the time I get to the end of the street it has become a skin scent. Of course, by the time I'm half way through my walk, I am only able to smell it if I breathe gently on the skin to warm the few remaining latent molecules and then bury my nose against it.

The obvious and only solution is to buy a 200ml bottle and carry it with me, topping up with at least eight more sprays at regular five minute intervals to keep getting my fix, but this too is a source of great sadness, as my bank balance will not withstand this sort of onslaught for very long, and thus far the winning euromillions ticket continues to elude me.

If anyone knows of a layering scent that would latch this to my skin for any serious length of time without destroying the beauty of the scent, or knows the whereabouts to the winning euromillions ticket and is feeling decidedly unselfish and generous, please do get in touch and you shall make me a very happy man indeed!

mikecch

This scent has one of the nicest citrus openings I've encountered.
A mossy, bitter zest with some coolness after minutes.
Settles into a breezy orange.
A fantastic study into citrus.

A summer tryst - the citrus seduces and then disappears - requires a top up every hour or so.

A fantastic up-market EdC for a person who doesn't need to consider the cost of their scents.

miles178

uuuuh, i love it - instantly after 1st second!
realistic orange with Hermes classiness and uniqueness!
don´t care about longevity or projection ... havin´unique cologne is something worthy to me!

Sauvarghhh

Try to love this for what it is. It is a mood booster, an instant refresher, a classy citrus kick to pick you out of bed on a lazy Sunday morning. It dies off quickly, acting as a bridge to whatever you’ll wear for the rest of the day.

The citruses and peels feel authentic and bitter and that separates this from the competition.

Try the Concentré if you wish to wear this for the day.

dman213

Tried this out after a stay at a hotel in Luxembourg that had shampoo and body wash under the same label. Those products had a distinct bitter orange peel top with some indistinguishable mix of green and woody mid and bottom that to me smelled like an old fashioned and a springtime forest had a baby. Very masculine and I really liked it.

This is different but I liked it too. The orange note is fresh and sweeter but fleeting and the mid and bottom are much fainter and less woody. I think this is because of the low concentration of fragrance in an EDC but it doesn’t seem like they make a stronger version of this.

I tried the Concentre EDT as well but the orange smelled more like an orange tic tac. The mid and bottom were a bit richer and actually had some staying power though. Hermès should try to make an EDT out of the Eau.

mimozata

Fresh citrus q similar to Montale Soleil de Capri=

oTis102p

A scent that exudes quality and is dominated by natural smelling orange rind and orange pulp during its opening. Unfortunately, the length of its opening is very nearly the length of its life, and that is not long at all. Also, it has no discernible projection or sillage. If you intend to wear this in public be sure to take an atomizer with you and be prepared to apply it frequently "on site." It will never last long enough for a journey of any duration after being applied at home. Perhaps it would best be treated as a splash cologne but IMO it is not worth the cost for that usage.

watchaka

This reminds me of that bottle of my rainbow colored Flinstones children's vitamins I hid under the table and finished in one afternoon. I got in trouble that day, but my friend was also under the table with me, so I only ate half the vitamins. Kudos to the flashback childhood memory, but thumbs down for not wanting to re-spray this to experience the scent all over again.

Jaegar

I found a few bottles of this online from a hotel toiletries set. Plastic bottled splash with no atomiser. I then got hold of a glass refill bottle from another online auction site (empty) and have decanted the contents into the original glass bottle. Batch code from the bottle checks out ok and smells fine. Anyone know if the formulations used for the hotel toiletries are a remarkedly lower concentration? I've tested it against a true sample of the retail fragrance and can't notice any particular difference in opening notes or performance. I'll make an edit once the drydown occurs but as others I'm not expecting this to last more than a couple of hours anyway - so have I just managed to get a significant saving on this? All in my costs are less than 12GBP for 60ml and an original 50ml refill bottle?

SocialAssassin

Cologne version of Orange Verte Concentree. Unfortunately, they both suffer with performance issues, but they just smell so damn good. Ridiculously redundant owning both, so stick to whichever you can get cheaper. Grab an atomizer while you're at it - you'll need it.

diego.lesgart

Great springtime and summer cologne! Seductive and atractive... Summer night party with palm trees, torches and beach breeze ... In the same vein of Eau Dynamisante by Clarins.

TDE

It appears I need to rephrase the previous question. I am wondering whether what I bought back in 1984 was the original Hermès eau de cologne - Which also came in a green bottle and was predominantly citrus with musk undertones. So my question now is: do they still make that original eau de cologne?

TDE

I Purchased a bottle of this eau de cologne back in 1984. I absolutely loved it. I bought another bottle about five years ago, and it just wasn’t the same. I do recall others noting that the formula has been changed. Can anyone comment on this?

marcel2782

Sweet tangerine pulp, with a bitter note of sliced peel, both in front of an old soap from Grandpa's bathroom in the background. Very authentic and very good aroma! If potency was decent, it would be a excellent frag. But it is laughable: you can take a bath of perfume and it won't exhale but remain very close to the skin. It can be used as aftershave lotion for those who have money to tear and do not mind paying perfume price for it. As a perfume, it is an offense to any consumer who values his own money.

rmt_fragrantica

I tried a sample in store, the SA discouraged me saying it smells like cat spray. It does, if you have that perspective. This is for warm/hot weather only. Try breathing warm air on your skin where you applied the scent. It's like a kaleidoscope of colours growing from a beige and grey background. The orange and green are intense and refreshing and I believe those reviewers who live in a sweltering climate and write their glowing recommendations. It is hard to justify the cost when I can buy 4711 by the tanker load, but perhaps if I look after my budget, and the summer gets too hot, I'll consider it.

Beyonder

Eau d’Orange Verte by Hermès. A tonic and sparkling cologne in the image of a basket of citrus fruits in which we find orange in all its forms (leaves, fruits, flowers), the stimulating freshness of lemon, the cheerfulness of tangerine. A minty and a fruity accord accentuates the acidulous side of the fragrance. In the background, patchouli and oak moss support these light notes and enhance the character of the fragrance. Designed for all ages and all genres, Eau d'Orange Verte refreshes, provides wellbeing and joy of living. ☀️🍊😊Longevity and projection are not the greatest but this is a summer refreshing out of the shower scent and an unavoidable classic of modern perfumery since 1979. 😊👃🏽❤️🍊🍊🍊🌼🌝

ntsekov

Liked it at a time and considered this to be sort of summer cologne. Tried recently, it's just an explosion of some citruses and then moldy projection that I can't stand on other people.

georgi.nedelchev

I love the way it projects freshness in such a natural way. Citrus, mint and some herb bitter notes at the end. Also a feeling of grass. Classy scent for sure - not syntetic at all.
Longevity is poor, but if you buy it at good price and apply frequently, you will be very happy and fresh, and everybody around you will appreciiate the way you smell.

cbeau

The citrus is very realistic, the green notes shine through nicely, and the mint provides a cool freshness that seems natural and airy rather than sharp and metallic. This fragrance conjures images of walking through orange groves with a cool breeze at one's back. It's a great composition marred by woeful performance in both sillage and longevity.

AnitaHendricks

Fresh, herbal citrus! This perfume is wonderful during a warm day. It's classy and subtile with a sharp edge. Sadly, it won't last long on my skin. The smell is very natural and not synthetic at all. You can tell this is a high quality piece!

Veldaga

I have a beautiful experience with this one, I took this one as my signature fragrance for some time.
The scent is high-class, refreshing on the citrus, orange scent. I feel like I'm wearing a peel of fresh orange on my neck.
It is very versatile, easily worn in any occasion.

The downside is the longevity. Usually it only lasts about in 1-2 hour, so respraying is a must if you have a long day.

EauDeBaldy

I'm wearing this for the next month ( July ) as a first timer.

For the past 2 days so far, what I can say, in a nutshell of what this is like is:

Picture an After Shave, like Aqua Velva Ice Blue but, an orange version, and this is exactly what it smells like to me.

It definitely fits the name for sure.
I don't see this as a compliment getter per say because, it's just a fresh smelling orange smell. It's nothing, to me, that is so unique to catch someones attention.

I've seen some say that this doesn't last long, which is a disappointment to them, but, It has lasted long on my skin. It's not as strong as the first 30 min or so, but I definitely smelled it many hours later ( very very lightly )

In conclusion, if you love oranges and want to smell like an orange that was just peeled ( but stronger lol ) then go for this one.

For me personally, I will wear this throughout just because it is pleasant and nice, but I wouldn't run out to by this. I was given this as a gift.

Kuldeep S

What a natural smell. it smells like green lemon hanging on shrubs. I was very happy when I first sniffed it but after few minutes I get to know that it doesn't stay not even on clothes. So much disappointed. What is the benefit of only few minutes pleasure.
I will appreciate if someone tell me the name of similar fragrance with good longevity and appropriate price.

Eau de Me

All I get from this fragrance is a very nice light bitter lemony citrus, but extremely weak.
I also recognize that the fragrance has top quality ingredients, but half an hour after apply, the scent has totally disappear.
I even couldn't smell it on me.
That's why I found a new use of this weak and quality fragrance, as an underarm odor.
Believe me, does perfect the job as an underarm odor. At least it is better than the underarm roll-on with aluminum.

BillieNG

After the initial blast of photorealistic ripe citruses - fresh and warm at the same time, which is frankly quite lasting, it settles to a charming, soft feeling of fustian. Something everyone is probably familiar with since childhood. Friendly, soothing, welcoming. An excellent cologne. Highly recommend. 5 out of 5.

clintjr82

If you want the best of the best citrus scents, Look no further d orange verte is it and also citron noir. Super fresh and natural. Smells so good and gets compliments all the time

damienthoresson

Yes, this is definitely a good one. Though, as addressed below, the longevity is mediocre and it does smell of Vitamin C tablets. For what it costs, one could get something else.

Lasts around 3 hours, strong amounts of freshness that could also be coming from an earthy moss. Not bad as a waking up scent, not bad as a hot day fragrance.

Crowning Ellena as a genius based on this is frankly unfair on him, as he has much better fragrances even when he isn't my favourite perfumer.

brianfamous88

I have a bottle from 1999 1.6oz half full . batch XI1k

Leftofscenter

Came back to this one after many years when I found a bottle at the back of my cupboard when sorting / tidying up. As soon as I saw it, I experienced the sense of doubt and uncertainty with nervous trepidation..
As I've gotten older my tastes have changed and some things I used to love in the past, I dislike now and vice versa on occasion.
Recently I've been reliving my scent past as I've come across certain fragrances I forgot ever existed, not least that I'd once owned them (M7, Dune, Givenchy Very Irresistable etc.) so I've been having a bit of fun and smelling my way down memory lane.
With that in mind, I decided to give this another try and see if I liked it more than my gut was telling me I used to. The answer is still yes AND no. I so much want to enjoy this but it's just so weird that I can't. The orange power in this cannot be ignored but it's not a sweet orange, it's more spicy and earthy, like if you poured a litre of orange juice over yourself and rolled around in a paddock for 10 minutes. That may sound harsh to lovers of this fragrance and I don't mean to be derisory of it, it's just not for me, despite the fact I can kind of appreciate where and what it's trying to be.
I now realise why I'd forgotten this one and pushed it to the back (literally and metaphorically) of my fragrance world.
Performance wise it's good, quite loud projection and sillage and decent longevity but not much changes throughout.
As a final and perhaps to some, humorous note, I ventured to the local shop soon after freshening up with this and no doubt stank the place out.
On my hot footed journey home, I passed two kids walking a dog, which promptly barked savagely at me and actually BIT me! (seriously, true story)
If there was ever a critique of a fragrance then there you have it.

zhiang0113

A beautiful, refreshing blend of bitter orange and oakmoss, with hints of mint occasionally peeking out from behind the curtain. This is simply a classic; the only drawback is its longevity, much like the others in the series.

CRBass5

Just got my sample last night and I've sprayed it on twice and within the hour there's no trace of it. A serious question would be what the utility of a fragrance that dries down to where you must sniff the skin to smell it is for? It smells like greens and especially oranges and it is good in it's way, but briefly pungent in another that I don't find agreeable. This would make a decent alternative to that cheap citrus spray for the car or bathroom. Not a good fragrance to wear though.

Smell - 3/5
Performance 1/5

Buy again? No way. If this were 20 bucks it wouldn't really be worth having.

mark03

Currently I'm using narcisse bleu which I adore and the longevity is better than orange verte. The short longevity of orange verte stopped me to buy it again, but I have such a nostalgia for it. The first time I bought orange verte was the same day I bought the memoire Out of Africa from Karen Blixen. It became my favourite book, which permitted me to travel with my imagination in sad days.

lister

Longevity is 10-15 min.I have a vintage version as well.It stays close to the skin 5 min after application. But I still love it.It reminds me my childhood. Scent fades as soon as alcohol evaporates.Oakmoss remains, but barely detectable.

smellavision

A delicious summer scent with a terrible longevity.

Opening with bitter citrus and mint and followed by a slightly fruitier theme - mango maybe? - and a woody drydown with hints of patchouli and oakmoss. Slightly bitter and leaning masculine IMO. A lovely and very natural cologne that on my skin lasts about half an hour before turning into a skin scent and disappearing completely after about an hour.

Treat it like a cologne, bring an atomizer and reapply several times daily on scorching summer days and you'll be good to go.

Uriya

Beautiful, traditional Eau de Cologne that suites modern times. Eau d'Orange Verte is an updated take for the brand's own interpretation for Eau de Cologne from the 70's, and my my what lovely results. If one considers the abundant selection of traditional Eau de Colognes currently available on the market, Eau d'Orange Verte is a wonderful option. It balances good quality, well built formula with comforting, clean, mossy dry-down at a relatively (for Hermes) affordable price tag. If you're not up for dropping 200-400 euros on the uber-exquisite takes from Chanel (Exclusiif line Eau de Cologne), Dior (Cologne Royale), Tom Ford (Neroli Portofino) and on the other hand don't feel like splashing on the 'cheapies' and more 'harsh' smelling alternatives - Eau d'Orange Verte is the thing for you. I got by mail my second 400ml(!) bottle two days ago, and this is rejoice. Do yourselves favour and check out the ancillary products of this cologne. The shower gel smells oh-so-fresh.

We got freebies of this from a hotel in Paris. The bitter orange reminds me of Vitamin C capsules, and the green notes are strong. So to me this smells like a lawnmower ran over a bottle of Vitamin C.

bha70s

Yummy scent, Polo Red-like longevity. If you want to give your money away for nothing send it to me...

rjf

Bitter, musty orange, fades to a very light pleasant patchouli.

Unmodernize

Quite honestly, a joke.

People bash frags that last 4-5 hours for bad longevity. And here, one of the most expensive designer houses and they put out this.

It smells of medioker citrus for 10 min the it’s gone. Dies completely after 1-2 hours. The lousiest performance I’ve encountered this year.

I tested this series and I never got the hype. Jardin sur le nil is good but weak too.

justfloral

Phase 1. a pastel, "naive", girlish lemon (citral, same as in May chang essential oil), it reminds me of tiny powdery lemon candies, childhood.
Phase 2. lemon + oak moss + patchouli, like fresh forest air, it's getting more masculine, cologne-y.
But it's still gorgeous.

jovejove

There’s going to be a new Hermès fragrance being launched out of the cologne series that’s more masculine representing the Persian Black Lemon; silicilian lemon, black Ceylon tea and guaiac wood. Smells AMAZING and I have it on. This post is for those people that say, “how can you vote when it’s not out yet”.

Lishypants

Unfortunatley just becomes Hermes Terre light in the 15 minute tram ride home. Just get Terre and layer with any citris to get the same effect but that last 5 x longer.

Now morphing into a damp earth smell - I like this, but not exacly something I would pay cash money for. And were the f is this mint note? My chemisty seems to burn of any hint of citrus quick fast so this is now just oak moss, damp leaves and patchouli :(

Violet_Rose

After slinging the Charlie Red I tried this morning to furniture and bed freshener corner, I turned to a little bottle of this offering by Hermes I've used before. It has a lovely fresh orange tree fragrance; slightly zingy in a green way and woody. I love it to feel fresh when I am unwell. Longevity isn't great but it is an eau de cologne. Good for a freshen up any time of year, in any climate. I can see it would be lovely in a hot, humid climate; one which I'm most acquainted.

a7_mad1991

Skin scent, not intended to make a show, very intimate, clean and stays close to the skin. Great if you have a significant other and you're in a touchy/kissy mood
Perfect for spraying on your body after a cold shower on a hot day

CONFUSION (See quotation E.L.O.)

This space, this profile, is referred to the 2009 version of this classic Hermes.

This is an interpretation by Ellena of the eau de cologne Hermes (1979), now called the eau d'orange verte.
Here on Fragrantica you can find a profile fot Eau de Cologne Hermes 1979 and another profile for the Eau d'Orange Verte 1979, but I don't think Hermes has lauched a parrallele edc with this name in that year of the 70s, so I don't know why this double profile. The Maison have change the name and have relaunched this eau de cologne I think in 1999 for the anniversary of this creation. Same formula.... of course with just minimal changes.
To create more panic Hermes has made also Concentre d`Orange Verte, Eau d'Orange Douce, and Aroma d`Orange Verte. But those are another story even if similar to the big mother.

So this 2009 Eau D'Orange Verte (bottle in the picture above with "cologne Hermes" logo on the chest) is an officially no flowers version of the first cologne. More fresh, fizzy, more minty, more cat urinal, less genteleness. Delusion. I bought this version by mistake, I prefer the original romantic formula.

Actually I have no idea if this one is the current version for all. I think so. To persist in confusion you can find on ebay and around many differet logos and names. Good luck.

Nopat

Eau D’Orange Verte starts with nice bright lemon on neroli like backdrop. The bright beginning goes away really fast and the scent settles to greenish citrus scent that is on the dryer/dustier side. What I’m trying to say is, it doesn’t have much sweetness and I get dry feeling because of it. As time goes along and the fragrance fades I’m left with pleasant light, green scent with some citrus poking around. Over all in my mind Eau D’Orange verte is green from oak moss throughout with few whiffs of cassis in the mid. Citrus is from beginning to the end, starting with this nice bright and tart lemon then getting to more generic citrus on mid and in the dry down there is barely some left to compliment the greenness.

Eau D’Orange Verte is really pleasant fragrance, though in my personal preference I’d like bit of sweetness in there to make it more “juicy” for me. It is summer scent, light and not that long lasting, spring might work on a warm day but generally I would stick with summer days. Biggest thing that holds back this fragrance is its longevity, top notes are seen really briefly. Middle has bit more to it, but still it’s short and then dry down starts to end two to three hours after applying and my skin usually holds fragrances really well. Sillage is small but I don’t really hold it against summer scents that much.
Even if this was dirt cheap to get, which it is not I don’t think I would pick this up. The scent is nice but I can get same sort of summer fragrances that has better smell, longevity, sillage and price point so why would I get this one?

truffles

I wasn't sure about this on first sniff but it quickly (the whole progression of this scent is very rapid) turns into something very ..... ROUND .. yes, it's definitely a smell version of a sphere (I think this might be synethesia!).
Very much like a Eau Savage/Eau Dynimassante combo, and a vintage powdery smell.
And then as a lot of others have said, quickly fades to almost nothingness. I suspect this could still be smelled by others, though, at this stage, if not by oneself, and in a very subtle and pleasing way.
Altogether VERY pleasant though, I'm pleased with this blind buy, this is not 'just' citrus, it smells classy and I would wear it any time, any occasion, any season.

no-fi

This is great stuff. Eau d'Orange Verte opens with a beautifully realistic orange note that is noticeably greener and less sweet than other orange-heavy fragrances I've tried, such as Hermes' own Terre d'Hermes and Atelier's Orange Sanguine. There's a neroli-like aspect here, perhaps accentuated by the oakmoss base.

After about half an hour, the orange has all but faded away, leading to a pleasant soapy-green citrus scent with prominent lemon, basil and oakmoss facets. In this stage, it is reminiscent of that great citrus scent, Dior's Eau Sauvage. I wouldn't buy a bottle, given I already have Eau Sauvage, but I will thoroughly enjoy wearing the rest of my sample.

EternalReturn

When I tried this from a tester at one of the many Hermes boutiques on Orchard Road in Singapore, it was really lovely, with a lush orange opening and a relaxed oakmoss drydown. And it lasted several hours. (Original review below.) Back in the U.S., I purchased a full bottle in a boxed kit with shampoo and lotion, from a major discount website. Sadly, it is quite different from what I tried in Singapore.

First, the opening is still a very natural-smelling orange, but it is much sharper and more acrid, as if the orange were indeed green and unripe. I like this opening, too -- it is bracing and uplifting -- but it is different.

Second, there is almost no detectable oakmoss in this bottle. The fragrance just fades away rapidly. It is a skin scent within 45 minutes and pretty much gone after 90 minutes or so.

I am quite confident that this is not a fake. My theory is that the tester on Orchard Road had been sitting out for a long time, losing its most volatile top notes. What was left was rounder, less acrid, with the oakmoss more prominent in the drydown.

I have another fragrance, a completely bespoke perfume that I just lucked into owning, which is a total oakmoss BOMB on my skin, and I like to layer it with Eau d' Orange Verte. It takes about 10 sprays of the Hermes to balance out one spray of the oakmoss-heavy fragrance, but it works.

mademoiselle-c

Divine. Fresh, citrusy, with a hint of bitter green that I love. Unfortunately, as many others have pointed out, it is fleeting. As is the case with most green fragrances (save No. 19, for example), it is here and gone in an instant. However, it is undeniably beautiful and well crafted.

LOUSY !...Nice smell but gone in a nano second!
Only good for an after shave, if that?
Don't waste your money!

duckduck1995

This scent opens up with a bright and sharp citrus note composed of mainly a bitter orange and sour lemon, thus gives it an authentic citrus opening rather than a synthetic sweet citrus accord. The bitterness is further enhanced by the dry oakmoss note, which gives it a woody background. It actually reminds me of biting into a lemon. When it dries down, although the scent softens up, the bitterness from the citrus/oakmoss combo never really dies down.

Although I prefer citrus fragrances that are sweeter, EdOV is a well composed, balanced spring-summer fragrance. Its achilles heel is performance. On my skin, I'd be lucky if it lasts 2 hours and projection is pretty weak, it becomes a skin scent after half an hour.

Overall a good fragrance but not really my style. Furthermore, I don't think it's worth Hermes retail pricing considering for what you get.

Mercuria

This is an excellent summer perfume, cool and full of citrus notes, avoids being over-sweet, and is long-lasting. It won't be to everybody's taste as it's probably a bit strong, but if you like the sharper orange/lemon/verbena type of scents this is one to try.

EternalReturn

A charmingly simple and relaxing fragrance. On my skin this opens with a juicy and natural-smelling orange -- much juicier and more natural than that in Terre d'Hermes. It dries down to a nice, crisp oakmoss note. On me, the orange lasted for maybe two hours and the oakmoss stuck around for probably four more hours. That's with just one spray on each arm. This would work for casual or formal occasions, especially in warmer months. I tend to associate oakmoss with more traditional and formal scents, but here the simple presentation makes it feel less staid, more relaxed.

This is one of my favorite scents, and I wear it often on warm days. I work in an office and in a restaurant, and I appreciate the low sillage. It smells clean and crisp, which I appreciate in very hot weather.

ScarlettX

This must be for men only! Such a masculine scent and not my favorite for that unfortunately. It was much better at first, cirtusy and natural. Now, it's entirely oakmoss. Not even good smelling.
Okay, maybe for men it's kind of ok.

chyprespace

For people who love colognes and oakmoss like me, this is heaven. One of the most discreet, clean and satisfying citrus scents ever. I love putting it on top of one of my favorite all-time perfumes, Chanel 19 Eau de Toilette. It will not hold its own against that powerhouse, but for a few minutes it will lend a citric quality to No 19 green clarity that is just the best of both worlds.

matthewapotter

One of my favorite after shower bedtime scents..Orange Verte opens with a dry bitter orange followed up by a nice herbaceous green middle - in the same ballpark as Eau Sauvage but much more refined and natural smelling. The dry down is a fleeting but very nice patchouli. It's true that this one doesn't last but it is a glorious and refreshing scent while it's there. If I'm wearing this as my day scent, carrying a decant is a must.

keatm49

8/10 on smell but the scent is gone in 1 hour only if it could last longer

I_Like_Sand

I absolutely love this. The mint and oakmoss really compliment the orange notes in such a soft and warm way. It's rather linear but I wouldn't want it any other way! It does last quite a while on me it just sits very close to the skin. When it seems to have dissappeared, all it takes is a bit of heat to where it was applied and it will blossom right up again.
This is cologne perfection!

Kalitera

Very realistic zesty orange!

Elegant and noble cologne... I can only describe as sophisticated a man who smells like that!
Love wearing it myself, and it would have been a perfection... if only this beauty didn't disappear completely in 30 minutes.

Einarr

Why would you take an adorable fragrance (the formulation from 1979) and add oak moss to it? WhileEau D'orange verte stays loyal to its roots for the first twenty minutes, once it dries down everything that is left is the oak moss combined with fade hints of patchouli and orange. Even though the dry down is reminiscent to the Cerruti's 1881 it lacks its urinal properties, therefore if you dislike oak moss as much as I do bear in mind that Hermes did their best to get the best out of it, making it very tolerable indeed.
However, the scent would be suitable for an older gentlemen that dislike cloying or heavy scents but would still want to wear something fresh and sophisticated without it being one of the annoying mainstream offerings for men as of late.

tinyhedgehog

Pure, fresh, clean and chic. No surprises there, what you see is pretty much what you get - a burst of citrus that dries down to a lovely woody scent, subtly lifted by the mint and by something else that I can best compare to the smell of underripe mango. Another reviewer said this smelled expensive, and I agree: it smells put-together, professional, and elegant. You can't go wrong wearing this.

Note: I'm a woman and this was my signature daytime perfume for two years. In my opinion it's perfectly unisex.

gerdbad

This is the only men's cologne that I can wear (and think I can pull off). I am a real fan of Hermes perfume house and I love UJSLN and Eau des Merveilles. If you are in to fragrances without sweet notes and if you like green-refreshing colognes this is one of the best. Great in very hot weather.
A wonderful old school, high-quality cologne. There is only one fault; it is quite faint, dissapears quickly.

lotus and jasmine

EdOV opens with a beautifully juicy orange note, which quickly slides into the heart, where nicely balanced orange oil (slightly bitter peel scent) meets lemon, mint, and bitter green cassia leaf.

Lovely, fresh, clean, energizing, but also elegant in its simplicity. I notice that other reviewers comment that they think this fits more on the male end of the spectrum, but I respectfully disagree :) I consider this fully unisex, and just as appropriate for a woman.

In the dry down, I do get a base of soapy white musk, although it's not listed. This is not as heavy as in most citrus scents, and doesn't overwhelm. Oak moss is subtle, as is mint, in this phase. The orange is gone, on my skin, but the lemon remains fresh and clear, light, and cheerful.

A very nice daytime scent. I actually get pretty good longevity, about 5 hours, but only minor sillage. Perfect for work wear, but being a citrus scent will probably require reapplication to make it through the day. I notice that the ads on this page imply a price tag of over $100- it is perhaps worth noting that I purchased this on the bay, and found 1 oz for under $15, shipping included.

For the price I paid, I consider this extremely good value, and one of the few unisex scents that I truly feel comfortable wearing.

RayF

This is my go-to-gym scent for almost two months now. Never fail to freshen and energize my athletic nerves:) Very true citrus, young, happy, simple but also chic. However the longevity is terrible because after my rountine 45-min workout, the scent disappers completely, like seriously completely.

Rabid Yeti

This is amazing stuff. So much that it left an impression on me when I was a kid and could care less about fragrances. I first smelled it on my uncle and wondered what it was that made him smell so damn good. I never had that imprint with other fragrances that I had around me. Such as colognes that my dad was wearing at the time. It's unique, clean and masculine. It will always be a classic in my eyes.

Shaheen

Hermes Eau d'Orange Verte opens with an extremely natural smelling orange note that smells like both the actual fruit and the peel as well. This is my favorite orange-based fragrance. The base is green and mossy. Perfect for summer weather.

LadyPilot

Beautiful and citrussy - the perfect cologne scent. If anyone misses the scent of Fa Citron Vert deo sticks from deep eighties, they should try this one - only it's waaaaay better, richer and more sophisticated - worth its price. I want it for the next summer!

Really nice stuff, the beginning is super citrusy, alot of orange there but the drydown is really really nice.It turns alot more green but still lingers on witht those citrusy notes which in the cologne are very well done. Its alot more manly and probably suit a man alot more than a women. Really good stuff. 7/10

ThEnAuGhTyPrOf.

The DNA is unmistakable....... Like that undeniable finger print... This has Jean Claude Ellena stamped all over it: I get an orange cocktail or sorts: bitter, sweet, Florida old South, a slight tangy lemon and a bit of patchouli & Vetiver to give it that depth........ Bravo yet again!

Arlene-Beatrix

Very fresh, wonderfully blended, not too sour, not too green, all in all - perfect balance! Great cologne for summer.

Update: It can be worn by both genders, but I think that it is quite masculine. If I wore it, I would probably feel like wearing my boyfriend's T-shirt.
So here you are my short request:
Men, please wear it to make the world smell more beautiful!

tkomaigo77

If you live in a country as hot and humid as Japan between July and September then you will find a place in your heart for Eau de Colognes like this one. I don't get why people b*tch about the longevity. IT'S AN EAU DE COLOGNE. Yes it's expensive it's HERMES. Would you buy a tank top at Dolce and Gabanna and then complain that it wasn't worth the price because the sleeves were too short?
Having said that,
This cologne does exactly what it's supposed to do. It's especially refreshing in the heat and humidity and suitable for daytime and office use. I find the balance of fresh orange and bitter woody/mossy notes slightly more compelling than lemony grapefruity Eau de Colognes but equally well behaved. I loved the comparison to a good scruff beard, Siete Cueros. This would definitely be the one gentleman in a line of gentlemen in tuxedos who wasn't clean shaven but looked strikingly sexy and elegant nonetheless.
Good for grown ups in hot climates who ride trains full of sweaty people but can't overpower clients with longevity and sillage!

Blutengel

Expecting low longevity due to the cologne fact and reactions here, I was very surprised to got whiffs of this wonderful smell throughout the day. It's not very present, it's just there, more aura like. Apparently the sillage is pretty good. I sprayed 3 on my neck, 2 on my shirt and 1 on the hair. Did the trick very well. Once again proved my likings for Hermes.

scentsuelle

This is quite masculine on me but it's fresh and assertive - I like to wear it to work on hot summer days. Sadly it does not last very long, more of a linger on clothes or in hair, if at all. However, I always feel it is a little unprofessional to let all your co-workers share in you scent experience, that is not such a bad thing.

Redbeard

This review has been a long time coming. I originally bought and gave up on the Concentree because it was too flowery and weak. I later bought a mini shower gel, bubble bath, shampoo, and conditioner of EdOV, and enjoy the scent (except the shower gel which seems to have gone rancid!) but the products don't even work well. So now, back to the original cologne. As is so often the case with citrus, the true accomplishment is in the initial blast that greets you. Here, the citrus is bitter, sharp and green, like the moist grassiness of Eau de Campagne or Eau de Gentiane Blanche. Plus a very natural smelling lime. And I say it that way because sometimes I think the citrus is secretly just secondary to the wet grass. After as little as a minute, it's already shifting toward "Stuffy English Barber's West Indian Limes", still not sweet at all, with a reedy, bambooey aspect that makes me think of the newest version of Eau Sauvage. The wet grass is gone, leaving only a slight tinge. The refreshing citrus is gone. So what I'm left with in my assessment is an EdC that features a layer of Campagne or Gentiane on top of an Old Gentleman's Lime (not that I dislike those) but stuck with an OGL's terrible sub-EdC-range longevity. I can only give it a thumbs down because not only is there nothing left to smell after 5 minutes, but I've suffered a long and arduous ordeal trying to find a version of the scent, or its bath products, that really last and/or work, and none of it has really panned out. I'm sorry that my anger has led me to do this, but hell hath no fury like a consumer scorned.

Ellena's recreation of this scent (my 2014 bottle says "Concentre d'orange verte" on it) has a bitter-tart citrus peel top note that smells like a blend of orange and lime to me. The first bitter blast fades very quickly to reveal a pronounced green basil note. It doesn't last very long, but that is the nature of these volatile notes. Spraying on your clothes helps a bit because they are cooler and the oils evaporate slower.

I am not usually a big citrus fan, but this one is special. There is an elegance and balance to the blend of notes that turns my head. Based on this perfume, the Hermes Jardin series, and Bulgari The Vert, I declare that Jean-Claude Ellena is to fresh notes as Chistopher Sheldrake is to spicy oriental notes.

I wonder if technology can't come up with a time release method for top notes. Something like a nanobead that is loaded with perfume oil and starts to slowly release it when the ethanol evaporates. Or a chemical caging method in which a non-volatile moiety is covalently linked to the odorant and the linkage becomes unstable when exposed to air or water.

mluckyg

Bitter lime citrus freshness, green oakmoss and woody drydown. This is more of men cologne than for women. Ingredients smell natural.
Sillage is zero and longevity is minimal. You have to spray every hour.

GodlyGil

This is a beautiful creation, with bright citrus notes and bitter base notes. Smells vaguely like a Lush store.

I first encountered Orange Verte in Paris around 2004 and it remains absolutely one of my favorites! Orange Verte achieves what others cannot: there is the perfect balance of citrus and greenness, a touch of sweetness and spice. It's also completely universal and would work equally well for men and women. Although it does dissipate rather quickly, I spritz my clothes because it clings to fabric more readily than to skin. It is the perfect scent to leave an impression on whomever comes *just* close enough. This bottle immediately transports me to the 12e, smoking naughtily, killing time before heading to Sunset that evening...

Juste parfaite!

GoodVibrations

News flash: The 2009 interpretation of Eau d'Orange Verte Eau de Cologne lasts. It calms considerably after 30 minutes or so, as does Bel Ami. It evolves. This is what quality fragrance is supposed to do! The instantly identifiable top notes of Eau d'Orange Verte settle like a falling leaf into a gentle green retro-chypre, as though it were a subtle en français rendition of Lauder for Men. The drydown is quiet, shhhh. But Jean-Claude Ellena's compositions last. For a sensual variation, layer this over Voyage d'Hermès Parfum.

ravjan

The scent is gorgeous! Orangy, dry, zingy, green... unfortunately its longevity equals ZERO! It's gone in seconds. The only way to enjoy it is to carry a bottle and spritz yourself regularly during the day, which can be fun too. Still, if I had paid the regular store price I'd be pretty pissed now. Wonder if the 1979 original cologne lasted longer.

juan carlos.henriquez

noirdrakkar

Wear this if you want to smell like an orange. Pass otherwise.

tweedlibrarian

Ah, I used to wear this back in the early 90s, and bought a bottle a year or so ago and didn't like the way it smelled on me. I thought my body chemistry had changed but it makes sense that it was reformulated. I felt so sophisticated wearing it but now it reminds me of an old man's cologne.

jonuiuc

My new signature fragrance. Very versatile, light and devoid of offensive/cloying sweetness, I find I can wear this to work (some people at my job, are VERY scent sensitive) and almost anywear at any time. I don't get the "POW" of citrus that many people describe (even in the name), but this comes across altogether more green and grassy initially, and then mellows to a nice clean, but interesting scent. It is not as soap-y as my previous signature, Thierry Mugler Cologne (which is great, but I find more appropiate for days and informal/sports wear). Very distict but inoffensive, although projection and longevity are on the short side. This one is more for me anyway.

Lost Argonaut

The biggest dissapointment from the Hermes House.. An exemplary fresh scent that doesn't stay more than 30 mins on skin. It's like falling for a girl that you know will leave you the next day. I bought it for ridiculously fancy price and returned it right away. I better stick to my Terre d'Hermes.

alexandra.07

I love this perfume for its pure and fresh scent.
In my opinion,it's the best fragrance in summer.
However, it stays on my skin for only more than one hour. It's a quite pity.

Singabera

That's very natural citrus smell, I really feel freshness, but not the common or simple one. Essential for hot summer days))))

DC-8

Very amazing and refreshing citrus scent. It smells like lime. Really energetic and lovely. I just smelled the tester, didn't try on my skin, so have no idea about the sillage and longevity.

fragaga

This is high-class, old-school, european-chic freshness.
It's all about citrus and wood.
All kinds of oranges are mixed here in all forms, the fruits and the leaves. Together with some cheeky lemon and slightly sharp mango and the beautiful and sophisticated notes of patchouli and oakmoss in the background.
This is a fresh, refreshing and vital, yet incredibly sophisticated perfume.
So different from the releases today so you might first have to get used to it, but then you'll love it! :-)

edit: I am talking about the original version from 1979.
