Aqua Sextius by Jul et Mad Paris is a Woody Aquatic fragrance for women and men. Aqua Sextius was launched in 2014. The nose behind this fragrance is Cécile Zarokian. Top notes are Grapefruit, Bergamot, Tea, Mandarin Orange, Orange and Mimosa; middle notes are Sea Notes, Fig, Pine Tree Needles and White Flowers; base notes are Musk, Oakmoss, Cedar, Amber, Labdanum and Guaiac Wood.

Jul et Mad introduce their new fragrance named Aqua Sextius, which will premiere at the perfume expo Esxence in Milan, taking place at La Triennale de Milano from March 20 to 23, 2014. This edition is characteristic for its luminous compsoition, whose light green liquid reflects a breath of spring. The name Aqua Sextius originates from Latin name Aix-en-Provence, where owners of the house, Julien and Madalina, got married, have their home and enjoy love.

The composition starts with sparkling and luminous citrus zests of bergamot, mandarin, orange and grapefruit, which are cooled down additionally with tea notes and powdery mimosa blossom. The heart highlights sea notes mixed with scents of white flowers, fig and pine tree resin. The base is woody and resin-like, composed of labdanum, amber, cedar, guaiac wood, oak moss and musk. The blend evokes fresh forest notes and the fragrant earth of Provence. The fragrance is signed by perfumer Cecile Zarokian.

Jul et Mad Aqua Sextius arrives in the characteristic bottle form and is available as 50 extrait de parfum. The owners also introduced special travel packaging as 20 ml named Le Compagnon, which is also ideal for those who want to test the fragrance before purchasing a large bottle. Le Compagnon bottle will be available starting with the month of May 2014.

It is important to mention that all Jul et Mad packaging has been changed. The perfumes are now available in boxes made of grey leather, and besides the perfume bottle, each box also contains a 7ml travel bottle full of fragrance which can be refilled. For miniature lovers there is also a LOVE DOSE 5ml bottle available with all four perfumes.

As much as a scent with strong notes of amber or oud is meant to be worn in cold weather or it will feel too out of place or annoying, this fragrance is meant to be worn only in the heat of the sun. I tried this on skin in the store and while I did appreciate it, I wasn’t blown away by it. That changed when I went outside in the blazing heat. Then it made complete sense.

Bu kadar fresh ve kalıcı bir parfüm olamaz, yaz parfümlerinin nirvanası, ötesi yok.

I so much wanted to describe Aqua Sextius for a long time, but I didn't have the starting point. I'd rather paraphrase and confirm Luca Turin's words from the 2018 edition of "Perfumes: The Guide".
Indeed, Aqua Sextius bends the law of physics in a way rarely experienced: that top notes, subconsciously expected to quickly fade away, turn out to actually be a persistent heart accord lasting for eternity. Magic! It is something you surely wished to happen in many compositions where the glamorous explosion of the opening lasted 10 minutes and was then reverted into a bland, predictable, darker and softer heart.
No heart and no base here. It's just the opening getting more vivid, minty, piney, abstract close-up of water freshness and the idea of abundant vegetation in the background, oscillating between greens and fruits from the trees. Truly amazing, unbelievably persistent.

Sure when u find her , u sure will get masterpiece 👌

This may be the only fresh fragrance i can wear. For some weird reason I can't stand fresh citrus fragrances. Summer I go only with Megamare and ADS. Think base notes is making this fragrance wearable to me. Longevity and projection above average. I could smell it 6-8h+

A WORK OF ART! A MASTERPIECE OF A FRAGRANCE ❤️❤️❤️❤️

jasonx

This one smells very similar to Womanity and also slightly remind me of Curacao Bay & Squid in the opening.
Drydown smells like salt water on skin.

Catmo

It’s definitely aquatic and I get some fig. It has that aquatic sweetness that Womanity and Zoologist Squid have. Toned down slightly though. It’s pretty unisex, opens more masculine with the citrus notes but then that fades and it’s unisex. I think this would be a nice summer scent if you like aquatic fragrances with some sweetness and aren’t made nauseas by it like some.

mejevika

A weird mix of aquatic and sweet that just doesn't work

RisingChaos

Fresh marine aquatic with a melange of fizzy citruses (slight grapefruit lean), green eucalyptus and mint offer an uplifting radiance, plus a touch of fruity fig. Somewhere between "mint chewing gum" and "chlorinated swimming pool" in a sort of cleaned-up, idealized fantasy way. Woods and oakmoss hold down the base. Moderately soft projection for 2-3hr, longevity 6-8hr.

Lfc18921

Nice, if somewhat forgettable scent.

spumyland

From this I initially take marine notes, cucumber, peppery guajac, musk, fanta ambergris, fresh citrus with a vague Aque di Gio vibes.
Greener, floral and light, sometimes bittersweet of labdanum and cedar remains bright and luminous with a strong resemblance to Dune by Dior and very close to Jacques Fath's whom I appreciate less.
In a smoother version for swimming pools with chlorine, fresh, daytime, and alas ... boring.

ameda

I quite like Aqua Sextius, but I don't know what one would do with this perfume. It opens with strong sharp citrus, somewhat reminiscent of Bvlgari Tygar, but then veers toward a tropical seaside effect, finishing with a showing of salty figs, black tea, and honeyed amber. All of these aspects are pleasant, well rendered, and enjoyable, but is it too heavy for warm weather or too light for cool weather? I can perhaps envision wearing this fragrance on a very upscale cruise or at a holiday resort night-time event. Those types of venues are not on my calendar for the foreseeable future, so this will remain an at home sniffer for now.

Ksj_

This is rather pleasant and I thoroughly enjoy the experience of wearing it. The citrus at the top is beautiful, and the transition to a subtle musky dry down is even better.

With that being said, I think it may be bottle worthy, and it is definitely worth sampling.

Nicely done.

This does have a lot of similarity to Curacao Bay by Jacques Fath just done much better. If you like that style of fragrance, sparkling citrus, hints of sea salt, slightly floral you will absolutely love this. Perfect for a summers day.

Musings of a Fraghead

Salty sea breeze, fresh orange, sparkling grapefruit, bergamot, a pinch of pine, fig fruit, and clean musk.

Freshly washed skin with the breeze blowing some salt on it. A vibrant blue sky is getting ready to set. The warm rays of the orange-hued sun. The last light of the day illuminates her smile.

This fragrance makes me think of happy days on the beach that turns into night. It's joyous and sparkling with a slightly sexy edge to it. It makes me think of those days you never want to end on the beach with someone you love.

justcallmed

Pure love...

salty, fresh, aquatic goodness here that mixes citrus, salt water, woody notes and somehow does it in a new way. Aquatic fragrances can be overplayed and a little redundant; you either get an Aqua Di Gio copy, a Cool Water copy, or something on that spectrum. This however is composed more of a salty, citrus and light fruity family. I loved it after wearing it for a few times and now that my sample vial is all gone I need to bite the bullet and get a bottle for myself.

Wow! There is so much going on here -- Linear segment that opens with a Bang and stays til the end, is the "Boozy Orange Cake" effect that I love in Arancia Di Sicilia Perris Monte Carlo. I get this due to "exactly the right sweetness level" (masterfully blended), combined with the labdanum. On my skin, this almost edible (but not outright gourmy) Jeux de Peau-esque 'toasted baked good' is swoon-worthy. The opening & mid boast a powerful marine & pine note in conjunction with the Boozy Orange Cake.

Marine & Pine notes recede, and soapiness flickers in and out on the dry down. One thing's for sure-- gorgeous beastly performance & projection. One spray does the trick.

Another reviewer posted towards the bottom of this thread, and I'd like to present a contrasting opinion. While s/he mentions Calone; *I* am NOT sensing ANY Calone in this composition. I've been blessed with an allergy/ intolerance to Calone, which results in an immediate and severe reaction. I am NOT getting any of that, here.

When you throw all colors of the rainbow at a canvas, there's a risk of creating a real mess. Despite all the unexpected notes in this blend, plus the kitchen sink, I must say.. it's a groundbreaking success!

cillian1988

breezy mentholated ad slightly fruity... long-lasting but I do;t know if it is worth the price given all the other alternatives on the market

Yes it's not unique, yes it's soothing. Yes it's well blended. But, it isn't worth the price.

I bought this on a dream visit to Mazzolari in Milan which has every perfume
In the world. I said to the guy “I have 300 perfumes but I want the best fresh/aquatic that I don’t have, that’s an EDP or better, what would you suggest”. He cringed but luckily it only took 4 suggestions before we found one I didn’t have/had, being this. The guy was amazing, if you haven’t been there and love perfumes it worth visiting Milan just for this - you seriously could spend a few days there...

Amazing Aquatic!

This is what Givenchy Insense Ultramarine would be if it was done properly, not synthetic and all grown up!

A bit of a contradiction. Moderate yellow florals (white in reality with help from lemon) on a bed of not too salty sea water and a breeze over the top. A contradiction because I often can feel a strong syrupy floral that sometimes makes me think that that’s all I’m wearing and then it flits suddenly and I get the green oceanic airy aquatic vibe and then they merge giving you this uplifting summery vibe like your in a field of flowers on a windy sea cliff.

Absolute powerhouse in performance from an Extrait no less and would easily be the penultimate aquatic For me edging out Aqua Di Gio Profumo and Jacques Fath green Water. Exceptionally unique in build quality putting it in a class of its own.

I bought Aqua Sextius last year when I was looking for a "colder" frag. I've tested many but this one finally won me over. It's extait de parfum so I'm hoping it will last on me without the need to reapply. I'm wearing it today for the first time, it over 30 degrees here and I'm getting cool whiffs of the frag around. Projection is good, longevity even better. I've applied in the morning and it's almost 17:00 and it's still performing. And it was not that expensive as others mentioned. It does remind me of Womanity, I own both and cannot be happier :-)

Beautiful aquatic! Good unisex! (I hope not to dwell on the question of gender;) I am a Woman and I was more than comfortable in it !;) I don’t really like aquatic fragrances, this one was accidentally given in a soooo, I liked it, I didn’t have a place on the skin) and the color of the perfume is one-on-one with the color of my eyes :) (in reality, the perfume is closer to the turquoise hue than to what is in the picture here.). Summer is a chic unisex scent!

Heifrank

Really love this stuff. Fresh scent with depth. Warm and cold, fresh and deep at the same time. Its almost like being on beach a sunny day, putting on a high end sunscreen with fig and coconut. The salty smell from the ocean and a hint of drift wood thrown up on the beach by the powerful waves. This frag really takes me there, into that scenario. Sexy stuff!

A fresh scent that turns male'ish on my skin. Very nice on a man, I think. A bit skinclose - I have a splash-sample - maybe a bit "louder" when you spray on skin.

VexedRomance

Was lucky enough to visit a local perfumery near my house and sample this in the wake of all the hype last year. I purchased a sample to give it a full wearing, despite being wearied by the drydown it presented on card. As expected, it turned out to be just as disappointing in the full wearing I gave it.

Aqua Sextius does open up with a very bright, juicy sweet citrus accord. It's very appealing actually. But the fragrance quickly dries down (like literally in 60 seconds) to a stale aquatic, faceted with various tinges that are hard to distinguish as anything more than musky. All the positive qualities become this singular mélange of sour aromatics that's very off-putting.

It gives me the impression of a high-class escort reference of some kind. Everything seems all too perfectly at first...but it's over all too quick...and then you get robbed. It just isn't worth it in the least. Strongly recommended to sample before buying, as this could be an experience that you're sure to regret otherwise.

Nooshin (Atghia)

During that time I wear it, there is a light & calm aquatic vibe. This one is not synthetic against a lot of aquatic fragrance. Aqua Sextius open with very sharp citrusy notes specially bergamot & lemon. You can imagine a sparking citrusy juice for 10 min. Main accord appear as fig woody sense in the middle that reminds me of womanity by thierry mugler but here is more light & balance. Finally in the base a pleasure mix of lovely notes such as amber & musk complete this woody-aquatic fragrance. Strong longevity & good silage about some hours.

Jul Et Mad Aqua Sextius !!!

I love this scent even though its not a projection monster. Very calming to let me crash to bed with ease and have a sound sleep.
One of the freshie scent which has lately helped me getting a sound sleep

Good, fresh, aromatic but very expensive for summer...something similar, high quality, but no so expensive, for me it's "L'eau des Eperides" di Dyptique or the wanderful "eaux di Francis Kurkdjian.

Summer essential! Very nice fragrance

MarioDelBarrio

I love this scent, I'll be honest.

Nowadays, I am approaching the "bottom line", that is to say, I am about to see the emptiness in my flask.

I've only been intending writing a review on this masterpiece. This fragrance is so complex and multi-faceted. It sometimes happens that I can smell a few single notes: the pine tree needles, the musk, the cedar and the tea. Notwithstanding my inept investigations, each and every day, when I wear the scent, I am in the "kingdom not of this world". Aix-en-Provence? Alas, I have never been to The City of 100 Fountains. I wish I had been there. If Aqua Sextius truly renders "le entourage" of the resort, it have to be one of the most beautiful and most wonderful places on Earth.

I believe that Julien and Madalina did bear witness to the truth. BTW, they are very amiable, super kind, cheerful and down-to-earth persons. Their main virtue is that they are discovering the beauty of the world - in the form of marvellous odours - and they do enjoy sharing the findings with us, perfume enthusiasts.

The juice is very concentrated. I use it sparingly and hence reach the longevity that exceeds 12 hours "in neutral". Taking into account its "sillage", it is neither a monster nor a skin scent. Well, lest there should be any misunderstanding, Aqua Sextius projects subtly but it does draw the attention of people in a wearer's immediate vicinity.

Both thumbs up!

djuzz.becuzz

I really like Aqua Sextius,... a lot! If it would not be for the hefty price tag I would definitely buy a bottle at some point. To me it smells really good and complex enough. It really takes me through the 3 different stages it's build on.
First there's this wonderful fresh citrus opening with a distinct tea note and a touch of mimosa, sweet and delicate.
Then in the mid phase I can clearly detect sea notes, fig and a hint of pine.
In the dry down it gets slightly balmy with labdanum and amber.
The hefty price tag is explainable due to the fact it's an extrait de parfum.
I find it has good longevity!
I would love to have it, but... not for that price I guess :(

Arabian Knight

This smells really like "Womanity" by Thierry Mugler.

I would rate it slightly higher since it doesn't have the peculiar 'Asian food market' muskiness of Womanity, but there's no denying the similarity.

Quite frankly, it smells rather synthetic and most of the notes listed aren't really detectable apart from musk and a cloud of sharp, salty calone and citrus.

€240 for this is a giant waste of your money if you ask me. Stick with Womanity, or one of its variants, and you will have the same aquatic effect for so much less.

Explorador

Disappointing. Too similar to Dyptique's Oyedo, and with a chemical current (hydroxicitronellal?). Jul etMad have beautiful perfumes such as Amour de Palazzo or Terrasseen Saint Germain, but this one...not really worth the hefty price tag.
